In short
Offseason training crossover (Miles Garrett doing rugby tackling drills), debate on NFL team windows and maximizing championship opportunities (focused on Ravens/Bengals and Derek Henry’s Super Bowl motivation), and a chaotic 2026 Nightcap NFL fantasy football snake draft with matchups set for the season.
Guests
No formal guest list is provided in the transcript. The episode features recurring hosts/participants: Ocho (Uncle Ocho), Joe, Mike, Chad, ISO, Ash, Keyshawn/Keytron, Christian, Javion, Stevie, and others who speak during the draft and Q&A.
Guest backgrounds (as stated/indicated)
Miles Garrett is an NFL defensive star; the rugby coach is referenced as training him. Derek Henry is discussed as the former Titans/now Ravens running back. Other sports backgrounds are mentioned generally (soccer/boxing/track for footwork and endurance), but no specific identities are given for the hosts.
Key claims
Rugby hip-leverage tackling can improve football technique and sack production; soccer footwork is foundational for route running; Ravens/Bengals have short “2–3 year” title windows and must avoid turnovers; there’s no guarantee of returning to the Super Bowl even after success (examples: Dan Marino, Cowboys, Chiefs/Patriots/Brady era).
Notable examples
Ravens playoff loss vs Bills (27-25, 2024) and missed postseason (2025); Ravens 2019 AFC title loss to Chiefs (35-24); Derek Henry’s move to Ravens; Mount Fiji rescue anecdote; multiple Super Bowl/AFCCG run examples. Fantasy picks include Jamar Chase, Christian McCaffrey, Devon Achane, Puka Nacua, Joe Burrow, Derek Henry, Josh Allen, Travis Kelsey, and Mike Evans (among others).

2:44Shannon Sharpe:Athletes are always looking at other sports to sharpen the main one. Check out Miles Garrett training with a rugby coach this offseason. Take a look at this, guys.
2:55If I want to stop stepping the fence, the moment I start my front foot forward, I don't get to have my foot go first. You'll notice you're searching for ground as if a sprinter was searching for ground like that. We don't want to do that. We want to push. Good shot.
3:08Shannon Sharpe:Because the moment I go to shift in, if I go foot first, you can feel the power disappear. If I go hip first, you're like, oh, push in the back. Before the hip, shift. Shot. There's wind in me. You just shift the hip without searching for ground. It's really, really hard to pattern that. See? That was really easy. Yeah, but you've got a bit of snap in that. The knee will still come. Can we make it more about the hip before we get the knee?
3:39Shannon Sharpe:You blame Shea for this? I'm talking to Shea.
3:46Shannon Sharpe:Miles Garrett must be going to like his money. Man, you tackle somebody like that, man? Can you imagine him being the quarterback like that, Ocho?
3:55Joe Johnson:No, because he wouldn't be able to play. He'd get fined. He'd get fined and he'd get suspended. I like what he's coaching, though. I like what he's teaching about your foot placement. and... Leading with your hips and not your leg?
4:07Shannon Sharpe:Yeah.
4:09Joe Johnson:Exactly. But also, you can't play right now anyway. You can't drive yourself through the quarterback. You know? So what he's teaching, he can't even do. And I don't think Myles Garrett really needs or has an issue with understanding how to tackle the quarterback when that's one of the things that he does well.
4:25Shannon Sharpe:But most of the guys, they're taught to lead. But like you said, you can't launch. You can't launch anymore. Yeah. You can't explode through a runner anymore. Yeah. No. Because then you end up landing on top of him, and then they go like, well, you can't, other players, you can't do the quarterback like that. Quarterback like that. That's the only player that Miles is going to be able to hit like that is the quarterback. Hey, but the rugby thing, it teaches you more so what, of how to, what, tackle, use leverage. You know what I mean? Yes. So, I mean, for me, bro, I can appreciate a guy like Miles Gary who has every physical tool you can possibly have from a football player and still trying to find different ways to add to his game, to be even better.
5:12Shannon Sharpe:You know what I mean? I think that's what the great ones do, Arkan Ocho. You know, they try to find different ways to stay on top, stay ahead of the game, you know, to enhance whatever it is they already have. They're trying to find ways to enhance it even more. You know what I mean? So, look, think about it. Those little basic moves Buddy was showing them from rugby, man, that could probably help Miles Gary get an extra sack or two throughout the season. You know what I mean? It's just a little small, minute things, bro, because the men are already locked in. You know what I mean? Techniques.
5:42Shannon Sharpe:Oh, yeah. What other sports do you use, Ocho, to get ready for football?
5:49Joe Johnson:For me, it's soccer. Soccer is always my number one, Joe. I think for any sport in general, that's why I tell a lot of parents, you know, to put your kids in multiple sports when they're young, especially soccer. you got to include soccer because the most important foundation to play any sport is your footwork. Uncle Joe, when your footwork is on point, the rest of the body just follows. You watch Kyrie Irving, you watch some of these players, your Stephon Marbury's, your Derek Rose's, or people that are really good with the ball in their hands and creating separation and being able to take people one-on-one, just encourage the basic foundation to what makes them good and not the fact that they can shoot.
6:26Joe Johnson:It's the fact that they can create separation with their footwork. everything starts from the waist down your lower activity so soccer was my base which is which is why my route running and ability to run full speed and be able to stop on a dime and and and get back get back to top speed in one or two steps and i just i you know oh that that soccer just it did
6:45Shannon Sharpe:i agree with ocho that soccer is great because first off footwork especially if you're a basketball player soccer if you start off i'm talking about as a kid four or five years old i'm gonna help you with your footwork throughout the game. That's what Nash started with. That's what Nash started with in Canada. But for me, Uncle Ocho, I used to do a little boxing training. You know what I mean? Not just the mitts, but the running of the stairs, the jump roping, the push-ups, you know, all different variations because, you know, in basketball, bro, everything is about endurance. You know what I'm saying?
7:21Shannon Sharpe:You want to be able to sustain top-level, you know, your top-level gameplay all the way through the fourth quarter. You know what I'm saying? Because that's why you see guys in the first quarter or the first half, they play great, but in the second half, they die down, maybe because they're just not in the type of shape to be able to continue and sustain that level of play throughout a full game. So I'll try to do anything I could, bro, to have not only longevity, but just to be, you know, in tip-top shape during the season? I was on the track trying to get faster. Yeah. Accelerate, yep, trying to accelerate, short area quickness.
8:00Shannon Sharpe:That first step is very important. Yep. Not to bring that foot up too high, to keep that foot close to the ground so you can strike it. Yeah. You see what he was doing, how he's striking that foot through the ground. That was my thing. As I got older, I just wanted to try to get faster. and had some of my biggest, you know, had I known, wish I had known about it earlier. Yeah. That's what I wish I had known about earlier. That was one of the things that I really appreciated as I got older because what it allowed me to do was to still train with high intensity but just not be – because I was just killing myself, man.
8:42Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Just keep trying to run those same – I was still trying to run the same time in the same distance as I was getting older. And my hamstrings just couldn't take it. And I was too dumb to know, bro, you got to change smarter. Don't train harder. Yeah. You're training hard enough. Be smarter about it. Save your body. But you don't know what you don't know. Yeah. But it definitely helped me. And if I had an opportunity to do it over again, that was one of the things I would have added that my first couple of years and obviously diet was very important for me because once I that took my game to a whole new level once I discovered my diet in 93
9:28Shannon Sharpe:that's the biggest difference nutrition is important up there big dog big dog up there she told me she gonna make me some some oxtail, some collard greens.
9:47Shannon Sharpe:Nutrition is important, Joe. Whatever. Derek Henry says he's tired of watching the Super Bowl on TV. After parting ways with the Titans, Henry signed with the Ravens because he believed he could win a title with Lamar Jackson at quarterback. In two seasons in Baltimore, though the Ravens have one playoff berth and one playoff win, he still believes. It would be crazy for me to say I played with Lamar Jackson and we didn't win no championship. I cannot have that. I do not want that to be a thing. We've got to do this. The Ravens lost to the Bills 27-25 in the division around the playoffs in 2024 and failed to make the postseason in 2025.
10:24Shannon Sharpe:He has played in one AFC championship game, a loss, 35-24 to the Chiefs in 2019. That's when they got up to that great start. Remember, Ocho, they got up to it. They were leading. Yeah. Really good start. because that was back-to-back weeks. Remember, the Houston Texans got off to a 24-0, and they just walked them down, ended up beating them like 49-24 or something like 50-31 or something like that. But, yeah, I agree with you. I agree with you. With the talent that you and him possess, y 'all have Zay Flowers.
10:59Joe Johnson:It'd be tough. Brother Bates, hey, hold on. They got some good pieces, obviously. I think they do have the best safety in the NFL. You got Kyle Lambert. You got brother, you got Marlon Humphrey. Who you got in the middle? Rokon. Rokon Smith. I can't remember, it's hard for me to pronounce the D-Lat, the D-N's name. Yeah, Maddie B-Quick, yeah, yeah, yeah. They got a good squad. I mean, their window is right now, amongst other teams. The Bengals window is right now. Now both of them can come out the AFC North. Somebody, somebody, somebody got it. What happened, Ocho? They window. their window of opportunity both teams where they have all this talent on both sides of the ball they can't pay everybody no you're right about that so I'm just saying it's a few teams where you got maybe a two three year window where you got to get it done now because some of these pieces are going to be gone
11:55Shannon Sharpe:I'm with you but I thought I heard you say something about the Bengals like they got it right now I thought I heard you say something like that
12:03Joe Johnson:I did, Joe. I say the Bengals have a small window of opportunity just like the Ravens. They have a two, maybe a three-year window. And that three might be a little stretch because everybody's going to have to go. The money is just they're going to have to go. Everybody can't be there.
12:19Shannon Sharpe:The Ravens got a chance. High-power offense, nice defense. They got an opportunity. They just got to take care of the ball. Period point blank. In the postseason, yes. In the regular season, hell, they got to get themselves a good seed, Ocho, so they can get to the postseason.
12:36Joe Johnson:We stay here. You? Oh, yeah. Well, they missed last year. They missed last year because, obviously, there was a big lull in the middle of the season with Lamar Hurt. But I'm just saying, each time they've been to the postseason, they've lost in the postseason because of the turnovers. Well, that's Unc's squad.
12:56Shannon Sharpe:Unc, what do you think? What's it?
12:59Joe Johnson:Hey, that's not Unc Squad is the Broncos joke. Huh? Hey, all Unc was in Baltimore. That wasn't nothing but a honeymoon. That was a honeymoon. That's all.
13:08Shannon Sharpe:The Bravens. The Bravens.
13:12Joe Johnson:Oh, you put the B in front of it? Okay.
13:16Shannon Sharpe:I like that. No, yeah, look. I think the thing is, like, when you get in situations, you got to maximize that. They had an opportunity. They fought back against Buffalo. in that playoff game in a two-point conversion. The guy, Mark Andrews, dropped it. Who knows what would have happened if they could have gotten that game to overtime, but we don't know. Their best chance that I thought they had, Ocho, they were the number one seed, had an outstanding defense. Mike McDonald did an unbelievable job, and they had three turnovers, and they killed them. It doomed them. Yeah. They ended up losing 14-10.
13:49Shannon Sharpe:Think about it. Fumble going into the end zone, threw a pick in the end zone, was driving and having a fumble. you've got to maximize those opportunities because like you guys said, those opportunities, people just think, oh, oh, they'll be back next year. Oh, they'll get this next year. You start all back over. You don't start from where you left off. If you get knocked off the mountain, you don't get to get to go back. You got to walk back up. I don't know if it was true. I was reading a story that a guy had to get rescued twice off of Mount Fiji. They rescued him, and then he realized, Ocho, that he had left his phone.
14:24Shannon Sharpe:He went back up there and they got him again. He went back up? Damn them phone. What? He said, hey, he must have some very important information on that phone to go back up that mountain to get it. Because they ain't worth it. Hell no. I ain't going back. Hey, hey, what's the scope? Who, that Florida State? 1710, I think. OK. SMU. OK, OK. Yeah, 17-10 SMU. But you know, look here, a lot of times you don't get those opportunities, man. Look at Dan. Dan Marino went to the Super Bowl his second year. He was the league MVP, and he never, ever made it back. One of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play.
15:16Shannon Sharpe:There ain't no guarantee, even if you get close, even if you get to a championship game, it ain't no guarantee. that you're going to get back. That's why I tell guys to maximize the opportunities when they present themselves. Oh, we'll be back. No, sir. Ocho, if you'd have told the Cowboys after they won their third championship in four years and you got a young, a 28-year-old Mike and you got a 26-year-old Emmitt Smith and you got a 29-year-old Troy Aikman, if somebody would have told you that, told him, bro, not only will y 'all not go to another Super Bowl, y 'all won't get to another championship game.
15:52Shannon Sharpe:The team, as y 'all see it, y 'all won't win another playoff game. They'd have laughed you out of the building.
15:58Joe Johnson:They would have. Damn. They would have. They wouldn't have laughed if they understood that Jerry was going to be the one to get in the way of that.

16:05Shannon Sharpe:I'm trying to see why Hunk brought that up. Oh, my bad, Joe. My bad. My bad. I'm saying there's so many examples you could have made, and you brought that up. But that was the perfect one, though. Because I know, and I think the thing is, there have been a lot of great players that play together and they ain't getting no Super Bowl. You're facts. There have been a lot of great players that play together in a lot of sports that ain't win no championship in that particular sport. So there is no guarantee.
16:39Shannon Sharpe:I mean, it's like, bro, that's what I tell you. That's what I tell them. Tell young guys, guys, you gotta seize that moment. It ain't no guarantee, man. I know y 'all think it is. We'll get next year, man. Especially when you're a young cat and you come into a great situation, a winning organization already, a winning team, and you make it to the Super Bowl your first, second year and you think that's the norm? Shh. Think about the Chiefs, Ocho. Their first three years, they go to Super Bowl. Yeah.
17:15Joe Johnson:The funny thing about it is I like what I like what Georgia said. Actually, it is a norm for about three or four or five teams organizations. Every year, every year they got a chance. Every year, no matter what, if you're part of that fan base, you know what? We're going to the Super Bowl and we have a good chance. For one, the organization, the way it's structured from top to bottom, it's just a winning organization. The Rams, San Francisco, Philly, Chad help me out help me out what you mean the Chiefs are just seeing that they're always going to have a chance every year regardless of who they have coming in veterans rookies you know it doesn't matter every single season they're going to have a chance for one they got a quarterback too
18:04Shannon Sharpe:I mean you're thinking about if you're a Chief you got drafted in 2019 your first year you go to the Super Bowl then you go back you lose and then you go four more times. That's crazy. I mean, three more times. And you win two of them and you lose two of them. So in a six-year span, six, seven-year span, you go to five Super Bowls. Man, you think playoff? Ain't nobody talking about the playoffs. We're talking about Super Bowls.
18:38Joe Johnson:Yeah, and some people think that's normal. They do. I don't think people understand how difficult that is. Then you look at, you go back. Let's go back a few years ago. The Patriots, Kraft, Bill Belichick, Tom Brady. They think that them going on those Super Bowl runs, they think that's normal. That ain't normal. It's not normal. It's so difficult to get there. That's crazy.
19:04Shannon Sharpe:Oh, six Super Bowls. Six. You won six. You went to nine.
19:12Joe Johnson:That's crazy. We talk about real life too. We ain't talking about no video game. Hell, it's hard to win six of them on a video game. I'm like, yo, real life.
19:23Shannon Sharpe:And you go to 12 AFC Championship games. Oui. Dominant.
19:30Joe Johnson:They dominate the AFC East every single year. Now the Bills didn't take, well, not really. But the Bills didn't take over, huh? The AFC East? Yeah. No, not because now New England is competing. So it's between them and you two.
19:45Shannon Sharpe:All right, guys, this is the moment you've all been waiting for. It's time for the 2026 Nightcap NFL Fantasy. It's the difference between trying to talk to your friends over the music at a bar and having dinner where you can actually hear each other. It can also use approved apps, connected tools, files, and browser contexts to help move the work forward. And you stay in control. You give direction, review drafts, approve actions, redirect the work, and choose the final output. So you spend less time sorting through busy work and more time making progress on the work that matters.

1:04:55Shannon Sharpe:All that money FSU spent on their stadium, yet forgot to pay the electricity bill. Man. That was embarrassing. Nightcap told ISO Ola to Area 29 was an arcade. When she see this, he ain't gonna be able to go nowhere no more. It don't make him no bad brother though.
1:05:17Shannon Sharpe:She actually inquired about one. She was like, oh, one, she was real cute. I was like, oh, okay, yeah. Yeah, okay. Big three, I asked this question when y 'all was at Area 29, but there was no Q &A that night. Do a ballet by the way they loved it. ISO, did you know Lorenzen White, and how did you – Lorenzen Wright, and how did his passing impact the NBA? Man, I knew Lorenzen Wright. Obviously, he's from Memphis. I'm from Little Rock. It's like an hour and 45-minute drive. But, you know, when we used to – when I used to go home to Arkansas, like he will come with me ride with me you know what i mean and then he'll keep going on to so he was a dude who i hung out with man super super cool dude i'm talking about life for the party uncle ocho we had a ball man super good super good dude bro to for him to have such a tragic death like that bro like you know that that that would not hurt me man but he was he was a good dude good dude friday night lights is back in effect oh ocho what's your best game in high school on the gridiron and iso what's your best game in high school hooping my best game in high school what's your best game mocho hey honestly i might even sit here and play around i ain't
1:06:30Joe Johnson:gonna hold you i can't remember i i i need to go down to my school at miami b senior high i'm not sure if they have footage from that long ago you know 96 and 95 when i did play but on all this time joe i've never seen any of my footage in high school i can't even remember i did in high school So I would have to go to the school and see if they have any of that stuff in the archive, which I highly doubt after all this time.
1:06:54Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, I mean.
1:07:01Shannon Sharpe:We played McIntosh, and I scored both touchdowns. Played Reesville, I scored both touchdowns, one offense, one defense. That's it. I mean, I didn't really have no big, big, you know, no 200-yard games, anything like that. Just basically maybe like 100 yards and scored a touchdown and they scored a defensive touchdown. So, something like that. Yeah. For me, it was probably high school. We played against Little Rock Parkview. They like our rivals, Uncle Ocho. They were ranked number one my first year in high school. And they came into our building, bro. We stomped a mud hole in them boys. You hear me?
1:07:40Shannon Sharpe:The number one ranked team, bro. And everybody know from around the way, all the top guys, especially if you can hoop, you went to Parkview, bro. but you know some of us chose to go to Central and when we met with them dudes it was like they were ranked number one we were ranked like number four or something at the time and we ended up beating I'm talking about standing room only this thing here was to the max that's where that thing get hyped everything
1:08:08Shannon Sharpe:every play every play
1:08:13Shannon Sharpe:Big Three just want to show y 'all some love appreciate the stories The game lasts, and no matter what obstacles have come y 'all way, y 'all overcame it. God bless and keep it up. Appreciate that, GOAT 2022. In my opinion, Kyler and Tua are both competition with each other. They're similar in situations right now, fighting for the next jersey, assuming the Vicles don't sign him again. Yeah. Got a point.
1:08:38Shannon Sharpe:That clip, Steelers 44, Bengals 33, with Ocho crying as a classic. Y 'all lost 44-33, Ocho? and I don't remember that.
1:08:53Shannon Sharpe:Our 22-year-old son ended up in ER the other day. Too many energy drinks. Filed a cardiology appointment for his former gymnast, a college senior, worked part-time. Ideas other than water and green tea. No more energy drinks. Yeah, not too many of them. You know what it is? He can't have any more of them. Oh, he can't have no more. Yeah, because he said he had too many of them. When you have too many of them, it's time to just let that thing go. Let it go cold turkey, Joe. You can't run the risk of it. They got to drink. You know, these young boys, man, these young kids, they don't like drinking water, Uncle Ocho.
1:09:31Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. You're right about that. Yeah. But I'm glad he's doing better.
1:09:36Joe Johnson:Yeah, most definitely.
1:09:38Shannon Sharpe:Absolutely. You heard what that lady said? With Jeremiah Smith being from Miami, can y 'all imagine him and Tony being on the hurricane? Also, why can't the Hurricanes keep top South Florida talent in Miami?
1:09:51Joe Johnson:Because it's money. It's money going around other places. That's why. Everybody would be in-house if the money was here. I mean, you can't get them all, you know. Miami got two of the best in high school right now coming there next year. They're going to be all right for the fourth year of the future.
1:10:09Shannon Sharpe:Tony wanted to go. I mean, not Tony. Jeremiah Smith wanted to go to Ohio State. He wanted to keep that tradition going. of top wide receivers going to the Ohio State. It's kind of like basketball players. A lot of the top basketball players want to go to Duke. Yep. They just do. Yeah, there's Kansas. There's North Carolina. There's a lot of other places. But a lot of the top basketball players, they want to go to Duke. Now they want to go to Arkansas. Now they want to go to Arkansas. Yeah. A lot of top of the wide receivers, Ocho, they're going to go to Ohio State. For a while, it was like Alabama.
1:10:42Shannon Sharpe:Alabama and Ohio State was battling it out. Now seemingly Alabama, Ohio State has the upper hand. Shea, what it told ISO, he was going to give him that Louis Vuitton basketball at college. Respectfully, Mr. Sharp. Nah, he ain't going to – I'm going to keep that. I'm going to keep the basketball and the shoes. You're going to get nothing and like it. Chad, I already know what's going on. They trying to spare you. No, don't spare me. What up, Big Three? Glad y 'all doing Fantasy League this season. What's the prize for first place and punishment for last place? Uh oh. Man, we ain't even thought that far in advance.
1:11:19Joe Johnson:Yeah, we gotta think about that.
1:11:24Shannon Sharpe:How many of it is it? I think 10. 10 of us. Hey, the loser got a tattoo nightcap on it. Everybody put up at least two grand. We're gonna get 20 grand. Ooh, boy. That sound like a plan. What?
1:11:43Joe Johnson:That's a good one. I ain't never heard the chat, Biso.
1:11:48Shannon Sharpe:I ain't never heard. In my ear, everybody talking about Abso.
1:11:54Joe Johnson:That's a good one. I like that. I'm going to donate my 20 grand to the chat.
1:12:02Shannon Sharpe:Taking a QB early is a rookie move, but CJ is a very first one is insane. I agree. But hey. I don't know took him. Javion got a bunch of calls. Got Josh Allen. I just knew I was going to be able to get Josh Allen.
1:12:24Shannon Sharpe:Keytron is a real person. Picking CJ Stroud in the second round in a 10-man league. He's a criminal.
1:12:36Shannon Sharpe:Hey, that's who I got week one, right, Keytron? Yeah. Yeah.
1:12:45Shannon Sharpe:Hey, what's Keytron smoking on? I need whatever he's smoking.
1:12:53Shannon Sharpe:If All-NBA was positionist back then, is it like it is now? ISO would definitely have moved one selection. Top three shooting guard in the 2000s. It's tough. Appreciate that, bro.
1:13:11Shannon Sharpe:Hey, Tug of Luck 14, say, start bitch cut, worst fantasy football blunders. Worst one is your starter. Ash drafted Kenneth Walker in the first. Keytron drafted.
1:13:25Shannon Sharpe:after drafting a key trial, drafted a Stroud in the second, ignoring Lamar Jackson for Stafford. I thought somebody had already took Lamar. That's why I didn't take him. I just knew somebody had already taken him because I wanted Josh Allen. So I was like, man, somebody already took Josh Allen. I knew Lamar was going to be second off the board. Then I looked up there, there's Lamar still hanging there. I was like, God dang it. But I think Ash, I think Keytron drafted CJ Stroud in the second round. Oh, Ash taking Kidders murder in the first.
1:14:06Shannon Sharpe:We have a flat tire in Atlanta and season haven't started. Tua.
1:14:15Shannon Sharpe:My guy, who am I putting my money on, Ryan or Ben? Who you got on, Joe? that's going to be.
1:14:21Joe Johnson:Hey, if you was a gambling man, I would probably, to me, no disrespect to Ryan, I'd go with a more disciplined fighter, and that's Ben. Ryan make far too many mistakes. It's hard for the naked eye to see unless you know what you're watching. You know, he's going to try to, if he's, he's, he's, he's got one punch. He's got one punch, and if Conor Ben can stop that one punch it's gonna be a long night boy hey they say key trying to cj stride related that's why he took
