In short

This Episode (Nightcap Hour 2) is a sports talk segment mixing NFL Ravens coaching/conditioning complaints with NBA free-agent signings and fit analysis, plus some player anecdotes about training-camp routines and “rookie dinner” rituals.

Guests/backgrounds

The episode features former Ravens players and hosts (including “Ocho” and “Joe”) plus references to Ravens players Ronnie Staley, Rashad Bateman, Deshaun Elliott, and Patrick Queen. It also discusses NBA moves involving Klay Thompson and DeMar DeRozan.

Key claims

  • Ravens former players criticize John Harbaugh-era conditioning/conditioning tests (heavy lifting and extreme shuttle/“condition test” numbers) and say the culture was close-knit despite it.
  • They caution against “taking shots” at a new coach (Jesse Minner) and undermining pressure.
  • Klay Thompson’s shooting will translate to Miami’s spacing needs, despite questions about defense.
  • DeMar DeRozan to Denver is framed as a late-game scoring/ISO complement to Jokic, with a concern about three-point floor spacing.

Notable examples

  • Conditioning test described as 10x150-yard shuttles and 10-40-yard dash style pacing with limited rest; hamstring pulls and lactic acid buildup.
  • Practice anecdotes: long streaks where “the ball didn’t touch the ground,” plus Super Bowl-week flawless periods.
  • Klay: fans comparing him to Ray Allen; Klay’s social-media rebuttal about being a second-leading scorer on two title teams without KD.
  • DeRozan: fit concerns about needing more three-point shooting; suggested lineup logic (Cam Johnson starting, LeBron off bench).

3:08Shannon Sharpe:Quite a few Ravens and former Ravens have taken veiled shots at John Harbaugh in recent days. Offensive lineman Ronnie Staley took shots at Harbaugh while praising new coach Jesse Minner style said Minner just valued the finer details. Rashad Bateman too saying from head coach to OC to receiver coaches, everybody really harms on details and the small things. That's just not what we're in our past. than today, Deshaun Elliott, Patrick Queen, criticized Ravens' conditioning program. Let's take a listen to what some of these guys had to say. Something at the Baltimore Ravens that a lot of people don't know about.

3:44Shannon Sharpe:Training was hard. We did lift a lot of weights in the season. Training was hard. It was hard. You lift, like, heavy. Heavy. Every day. I always heard that, too. Like, y 'all would squat every day. Dead clean. I mean, power clean. Power clean. Squats, like, squatting. Like I was still those running backs were getting hurt that one year to my I took my pec out there one year because of that shit. Yeah, it was I think the worst thing was the condition to test by far conditions as 150 our shuttles. Yeah, so it's like not a little it's a It was 10 10 150s. No, that's what y 'all oh We had 25 yards back 25 yards back 25 yards back and you gotta make that a certain amount of time and you want to get half that rest so it was a lot of hamstrings got pulled a lot of hamstrings got pulled but training was crazy but culture wise I think that locker room was close that I was a part of it was every single guy on the team connected with each other like Lamar would be hanging out with the D-line and you got Roquan going to hang out with freaking O-line and Mark Andrews over there talking to us and you got kickers and everything just like everybody was close so um the culture was cool um it was a good place it was a good place

5:08what'd you think ojo i mean it sounds like the same especially when they come to that condition the test yeah that's the same thing we had to do when i was playing so i i see i see that had that hadn't changed much obviously that's why you want to come into shape you don't go to camp trying to get yourself in the shape you know you got to not come in tip top but at least halfway so you can able to get through things like that and you already know they're coming anyway as far as the players taking shots at the coaches uh you don't want to undermine them you don't want to undermine him yeah harbaugh has had success you know for a reason when he was in baltimore he had success now most of the time that success didn't end in the championship or lifting that lombardi trophy but he did have success and the way he did things is one of the reasons why you were always in contention year in and year out obviously having the player and the quarterback who did in lamar jackson And it helps that cause as well.

5:57But I don't like the taking the shots when someone new comes in and now you have unwanted and unnecessary pressure based on the words that came out of your mouth about your former coach. So now people are expecting, based on what you're saying, expecting you guys to reach the promise right now. You know, I'm not saying you're making it worse on yourself, but you're making it worse on everyone else, including your head coach, based on what you said about your former head coach.

6:22Shannon Sharpe:Hey, that's why you want to come into camp in decent shape, bro. He talking about pulling them hamstrings, Uncle Ocho. They're for guys who come into camp trying to get in shape, using camp to get in shape. That's what you have. You have all them soft tissue injuries, especially them hamstrings. They're going to be the first to go. Yeah, that's all we doing is running. Yep. Yeah. We had that test. We had that 10-40, Ocho. Remember that 40-yard dash test? You got 10 40-yard dashes, and you got to make them a certain amount of time. A certain amount of time, and you only can rest for a certain amount of time.

6:55Shannon Sharpe:So, whatever you say, you run a 4-3, your slowest 40 can't be over 4-6. And basically, you get like 30 seconds rest. Yeah. I know, boy. Man, we used to have to run 15 150s. The 200, we had to do a 200-yard shuttle. which is down and back, and you got 28 seconds to make it. Mm-hmm. You got like 12, 14 of those. I've been running the track, so I'm cool. One thing I could do, because I had a track background, was run. I know how to pace it. I'm not finna go out there and, oh, keep up. Mm-mm. No. 28 seconds? 28 seconds it is. Now, I'm gonna kick out the last one. I'll make it at about 26, but I'm not finna burn out.

7:49Shannon Sharpe:and go anaerobic because once that bear jump on you, ooh, it's a wrap. Hey, that bear ain't no joke, boy. Hey, it depends on who you are. It's either the bear or the monkey. If he get on you, that's your ass, Mr. Postman. That's it. Hey, in basketball, I think it's like two minutes they put on the clock, and you got to get like 21 touches. You know what I'm saying? Like down and back. You got to do that. You got to go out and fall into the court 21 times, and you got to make it like under two minutes. You got to have a nice pace, boy. I'm talking about you ain't got to be all out, but you can't take off too damn much, boy.

8:33Shannon Sharpe:Hey, Ruff, I seen you boys hit the flow. You hear me? I just ain't got it, Coach. I ain't got no more. I can't go. I can't go. That's the worst feeling to have. It is, bro. Because your mind said you can go. Bro, my body say you ain't moving. You ain't moving. And that's the funny thing about it too, is Joe and once that lactic acid builds up, once it builds up, there's no way to get rid of it. Oh yeah. At least not right there at that moment while you're moving. Bro. And you just, you won't puke. Man, if you hadn't been doing something similar to that on your own, you not gonna make it bro. You ain't gonna make three of them.

9:18Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, you ain't gonna make it. You got to be running them sprints on your damn own, but I'm telling you, but ain't no joke. Training camp, that test we used to have, that conditioning test coming back. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Man, you had B-A. That lactic acid buildup, you make you think you got a BBL. Yeah. Hey. I don't know what they feel like, don't you, but I can just imagine. Man, your butt feels... Hey, yep. Hey. Hey. I remember them days. See, the thing is, we run with the group, like the tight ends and linebackers, tight ends and linebackers, we ran together. So, you know the thing is, if I'm out there, everybody, because if I'm way out there in front of everybody else, they're gonna be like, y 'all need to pick it up.

10:06Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. I'm gonna stay right there in the pack. Yeah, yeah. Right there in the pack, Joe, I got me a nice little, got me a nice little get up. Yeah, yeah. Sharp, you're not even tired. Am I supposed to be? That's what I use the offseason for to make sure I don't get tired if we have to do this. Right. Yeah. Man, I agree with you guys. The last thing that I wanted to do, because for me, the way I looked at it, I'm responsible for the guy getting fired. Yeah, yeah. That's on me. Had I did my job a little better, he'd still be here. No matter what I thought of my coaches, and I pretty much got along with all my coaches.

10:45Shannon Sharpe:Some I like more than others, obviously. Some bosses you like more than others. But for the most part, I got along. They kind of left me alone because they know I was going to do what I was supposed to do. But the details, things, I can see that because I played for a coach that was very detail-oriented, and he ain't leaving no stone unturned. You mess up if you want to and tell me, no, hell no, you're going to run that play again. you're going to run it again absolutely so that's what I'm used to I'm not used to making a whole bunch of mistakes you're not going to make a whole bunch of mistakes in a period and finish that period you're going to start that period all back over again first Mike going to blow it bring it up

11:36what's going on guys get your head out of your ass

11:40Shannon Sharpe:dropping passes wrong assignment missed blocks who do you think we're going to beat like this

11:49Shannon Sharpe:started from the top

11:56that's how I go to I didn't understand why coaches were so so bent on having consecutive plays in a row go the right way you know in certain periods whether it's 11 or 11 whether 707 whether even whether it's skelly if you've just there's nobody there and just you and just doing it no air because they want to do the best they can and replicating five six seven eight ten sometimes even 11 play drives they want to get you accustomed to being perfect every time you step out there as much as possible as much as possible the better you can go through practice and not making mistakes, the better your chances of going into a game, regardless of what they do defensively, and having that same repetitive nature when you're in game mode.

12:46Shannon Sharpe:Oh yeah, we had to string it together. I mean, we go practice, we go periods, the ball didn't touch the ground. Yeah. And then, you know, and then, Cooper's like, alright, I'll buy you, everybody get boots. But, he buys like cowboy boots. so we didn't have no drops. But, so we got nine, we got nine completions in a row. You couldn't throw a check down. The ball had to go at least 20 yards down the field. John going for the gusto. 40 yards, 42 and four.

13:25Shannon Sharpe:All the time Mike did get mad when somebody laid out for a catch. Dude laid out, brought it in. We get old. Ocho, we played the Super Bowl. The first Super Bowl that we played, two of them, we played Denver. We played the Packers. We had a day that Thursday practice.

13:50Wednesday practice, Thursday practice.

13:52Shannon Sharpe:It was flawless. Thursday practice. I dropped the first ball. The ball never touched the ground again. Friday practice, the ball didn't touch the ground. Thursday practice in Miami, we played the Falcons. Ball never touched the ground. We would go entire practices and the ball wouldn't touch the ground.

14:17Shannon Sharpe:And boy, you messing up that street. You be the one to mess up a street that we done caught like 15, 20 balls in a row and you drop it. Oh man, God!

14:34Shannon Sharpe:Man, you know me. Oh man, damn! Man, my sister could have called. Hey, let me run in there and call my grandma to come catch this pass with this boy. Damn! Those jokes are gonna fly. For sure. Hey, what's your favorite candy bar? Let me guess, Butterfingers. Damn it!

17:58Shannon Sharpe:Clay Thompson is indeed headed to South Beach. He plans to sign a two-year, nearly$13 million deal with the Heat after clearing waivers. Thompson and the Mavericks navigated a buyout from his$17.5 million expiring salary after he made it clear at Dallas that he wanted to play for a contender. Ocho, you finally got one right. I mean, listen, I told you, I told you, listen, I've been 99 % right when it comes to where these NBA players are going. Now, the one with LeBron, now listen, I sat on that. I sat on that, and I really felt like what happened. And Ja Morin. No, I was just thinking about Ja.

18:34Ja, Ja, Ja, Ja, no, no, no, Joe, for real, you know Ja can't come to Miami.

18:38Shannon Sharpe:All right, all right, all right. Come on now, be speedy. If you couldn't function over there in Memphis, ain't no way in here you come to Miami I'm just being honest I was just being hopeful but the Giannis thing I had the pairing of Giannis and John coming here I knew John wasn't coming I'm just on a realistic standpoint but honestly I thought LeBron was coming I'm gonna be honest about that I thought LeBron was gonna come with Giannis and I think that admin leaking that whatever it was I think made him hit him U-turn I still think it made him hit him U-turn I think that was done on purpose I think it was done on purpose and obviously I like it.

19:11I like LeBron in Philly, but I also would have liked them here in Miami because I knew Klay was coming. I knew Klay was coming. I said that two months ago. I knew. And listen, I like it. We have shooters now. We got Tim Hardaway Jr. We got Klay. And a lot of people say, oh, he's not the same Klay he was back then. Well, hell, who is the same? Over time, you get a little older, but I know one thing he can do. He can still shoot. You don't lose that. You can still shoot. he yeah what we're we talking about so i mean i think we we're gonna be good we're gonna be good we got some nice pieces is it enough to come out come out the east hey hey that's that that's to

19:51Shannon Sharpe:be seen i i like clay going to miami okay ocho obviously not only can he shoot but he'll hear winner now him going to dallas it was unforeseen he didn't think kyrie was gonna get hurt here And he didn't think – you know what I mean? Like he thought he was going to go there and get to play with some – Well, he didn't think Luke was going to get traded. Yeah, he didn't think Luke was going to get traded. So he thought he was going to play with some bona fide guys. Obviously, it didn't work out. For sure. If you Miami, you got to have floor spacers. You got a guy, Giannis and Bam, who going to eat up a lot of space.

20:23Shannon Sharpe:And they going to cause – they going to have a lot of tension on them. So to have guys like Tim Hardaway, Clay Thompson, guys who can really space the floor and make shots, and that's what they're known for, And I don't necessarily think Klay is the defender he once was, but I don't necessarily think he's no guy you're just going to seek out and just go at every trip down the court. And he plays the right way. Obviously, the championship pedigree is going to help with Miami and what they're trying to do. Another guy who will probably come into the season this year, trying to show and prove that he still can play at a high level, he still can help a team make a deep playoff run.

21:04Shannon Sharpe:So I'm excited for Clay, bro. I hope he really, really get an opportunity to really play some more championship caliber basketball. Well, I think the thing he's finding out, there's a lot different player than anywhere else other than playing in Golden State because you got the other guy. Hello. You got the other guy that's running around out there. Hello. Letting it have him apply. Hello. It's a whole different ball game. And as great as Klay was, they putting that undivided attention on Steph. Yeah. And he's a tremendous catch and shoot. Because he don't need a whole lot of space now. But once he gets hot.

21:43Shannon Sharpe:And when you look at Giannis, Uncle Ocho, he like firing that ball over to that corner. He may not be looking. So he uses those guys around him well. And Klay going to fit right in, bro. It's probably going to be the best, probably best opportunity as far as winning and having fun for Klay since he was in Golden State. I'm excited for him. You got a guy, yeah. Giannis liked to skip. He liked to hit that skip pass all the way across, and Klay liked to go to them corners. That corner, that's his shot. Them short porches. That's when Giannis at his best, when he's surrounded by guys who can really shoot the basketball because he puts so much pressure on the rim here.

22:26Shannon Sharpe:You got to collapse. Something got to be open. Collapse. Yeah. Yeah. And you got another – you got – he and Bam can – those guys can defend. Davion Mitchell, they got solid defenders. Andrew Wiggins not a – he's not an elite defender, but he ain't terrible. And he ain't no knockdown shooter, but he can make a shot. You know, he can get out and strangle a few in a row. I think they got a pretty good squad, bro. Yeah. They got a nice little squad. Look, and spoken flat out coach. So they're not going to be an easy out now. Because even when they had less, they weren't an easy out. Yeah, they never are.

23:07Shannon Sharpe:The problem is that they end up getting to the end of our bench. What did you go say, Ocho? What about our bench, huh? Look, I don't know who you got on your bench other than Hardaway Jr. We got Bobby. You got Bobby. You know what? Damn, I forgot to tell you, Ocho, Joe. I saw BP out here in Vegas during Summer League, and he told me to tell you guys what's up. He said he want to come back home. I said, boy, you scared the hell out of me.

23:38Shannon Sharpe:But no, he told me to tell you guys what's up. I forgot to tell y 'all that during Summer League. But no, yeah, I forgot about BP can stretch. He can put his back to the basket. You know, like I said, that the Heat is not going to be an easy out. So if you think you're going to get an easy win, you not. Think about it. Hell, they compete when they don't have a whole lot of talent. Thank you. That's just who they are. Yeah, and now that they do got some talent, led by Giannis and Bam, them two hard-working jokers, man, please. Boy, hey, it's going to be hard to go to South Beach and get a win now.

24:10Shannon Sharpe:It's going to be hard to go down and get a win. For sure. Yep. Well, you got them in the East. I think they should be a top four team. They should be a top four team, yeah. Joe, I put it up before you said it. Yeah, they should be top four. Just being honest. You look at the Knicks, Philly, Boston. Yeah, I can see the heat. Heat, yeah. So what about Detroit? Well, you see the controversy they got going over there with big fella, is he coming back? They gonna bring him back? Well, you can sign a word. Jalen Duren. I'm not giving you a supermax contract. Well, I'm gone. I'm gone then. I'm gonna pack my bag.

25:02Shannon Sharpe:I'm gone. Okay, well, bye. I'm gone. Close the door behind you. Okay, say less. I'm gone. I'm gone. I'm gone. I just need somebody. As a matter of fact, I ain't gonna let you talk me to them. You know what? If they got a bank, they got a bank They got a bank in Milwaukee someday. I don't care where they got a bank at. I'm going to play. We'll go here. Yeah. You're Detroit. Okay, y 'all don't want to pay me Detroit. Man, get your lips off my ears, man. Yeah, I'm going to Charlotte. Charlotte, what y 'all got going on? Charlotte, what y 'all got going on, daddy? Y 'all need one? What's up? Hey, Joe, what you say, Joe?

25:37Shannon Sharpe:They got a bank somewhere else? They got a bank everywhere. I don't care where you at. Yeah. They got a bank. Hey, you get paid. I get paid on first and 15. just like y 'all do, huh? Guess what? You can't, guess what? You can't go nowhere. You gonna take this money, you gonna take this what I'm gonna pay you. What did y 'all be gonna tell Blue? I got a contract between me and you to say you do what I tell you to do. So don't say nothing, don't get small, Blue. He said, don't say nothing to me. Hey, that's where they at, bro. They at a standoff in Detroit, man. Yo, hey, that man want his money.

26:11Shannon Sharpe:I'm gonna give you some money. I'm not giving you a Supermax. Yeah, we in September, man, what we waiting on. That was in July. We pro-Bendly got this on out the way, so me and Kade can get together and keep our chemistry going. You and Kade can still get together, but it's gonna be for less than what you thought.

26:32Shannon Sharpe:That Christmas that you thought you was gonna have? Hey, listen. You know, hey, like if Opie back grab me, he said, boy, you know, baby, you know, I know I promised it, but it didn't come through, it didn't happen like it's supposed to.

26:48Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, they gotta figure that out though, Uncle Ocho. He messed his money, Joe, Ocho, he messed his money up in the playoffs. They wouldn't, Ocho, Joe, you know this. If that man had played half like he was in the regular season, they'd have gave him the money, no damn problem. Absolutely, but guess what, Uncle? Hell, timing is everything. I can't help we in the timing, it's my country. I still want my money, man. Listen, unfortunately. Huh? We'll give it to you. We're just not getting no. You're not getting 290. That's all I'm saying. Okay, cool. I ain't got to get 290. But I want 200. Yeah, I want 200.

27:25Shannon Sharpe:I want 200. I want 200. I got, you know what? Since it's you, I got 200 too. Five years, 200. You damn sure ain't getting no five years, 290. Okay, cool. I'll take 215. 215, we out the door. You know what? Stay on the stair home.

27:49Shannon Sharpe:Hey, listen. I'm cool with not getting the 290. I'm going to take the 215. I need that extra 15. Give me that extra 15, and we good. We going to get it rolling. I get my house. I want to get down there in Bloomfield somewhere. Yeah, come on. Look here. I don't know. If you can't live out 200, you can't live out 215. Yeah, I can live off of it, but you know, we in Detroit, man. That's what I'm saying. Our third team All-NBA, what is you talking about? What we arguing? And you look like a bench player come play in the postseason. We want to talk about that? Hey. It looks like they done made it abundantly clear, Joe.

28:32Shannon Sharpe:They not giving him that contract that he seeking. He still fighting, though, Uncle Ocho Hill. I ain't mad at him. I ain't mad at him.

28:44Shannon Sharpe:Klay was also active on social media while responding to fans who's comparing his career to Ray Allen's. You do realize I was the second leading scorer on two championship teams without KD. You want me to go to a bad team and put up empty stats? That's easy, buddy. Exactly. No team is making the playoffs with Klay as the first option at any point in his career. Damn. Holy ish, I led the 2016 playoffs in points scored, you casuals. talk your talk your trash boy hey yeah that's it we want y 'all to keep on keep on tweeting clay and pissing him off we need that so we have a chip on the shoulder so we come out here down here the casella center with something to prove huh yes i think i think the the golden state trading him it's i don't want to say tainted because obviously he a first ballot hall of famer There's no question about that.

29:41Shannon Sharpe:But how people perceive Clay Thompson, bro, because of these, what, this year? What was it? He only been in Dallas a year, right? Two years. And how people have perceived him, bro, come on, man. Come on, man. That man, first ballot Hall of Famer, was a hell of a player in his prime, bro. Joe, you know when you play with other great players, unless you're historically great, you don't get it. I mean, think about it. People don't want to give Kobe the credit because he played alongside Shaq. Yeah. So what you think, Clay? What you think? And Shaq is closer to Kobe than Clay is the staff? Yeah. Yeah.

30:16Shannon Sharpe:That's just the way it goes. I didn't set the rules, but you know this. When you play with another historically great player, unless you're historically great in yourself, look at McHale and Parrish. They don't get no love like Larry Bird. They were first battle Hall of Famers too. They was on those championship teams right along with him. Yeah. It's just the way it is. And he should look, awful without explanation. I don't care what y 'all say. Man, you wasn't this gear, you was blah, blah. Whatever you said I was, all I know is I got three rings and I got a gold jacket. Hello. So whoever got more rings and got a purple jacket or a red one, I don't care.

31:02Shannon Sharpe:As long as you got the most out of your career, out of your God-given ability, that's all you can do. I can't measure my career against somebody else's. I didn't play in that system. I didn't play with their quarterback. They didn't play with mine. I didn't have their head coach. They didn't have mine. All I know is what I did. My 12 years in Denver, my two years in Baltimore, I ain't trading it for nobody's career. And I think Gronk and Kelsey, they are the two best tight ends in the tight end, and I feel very comfortable saying that. I give the nod to Kelsey because of his postseason, but Gronk don't got to take a backseat to nobody.

31:43Shannon Sharpe:But I still wouldn't trade my career for theirs. That's just me. That's just me. But, Clay, man, you make yourself sick, Dred, trying to explain yourself to people that, look, they might know the game, but the intricacies of what it takes. Yeah, maybe he could have averaged more points, but at what expense? To mess up the offense just to show that he could – yeah. You can do it? Yeah. The very first thing, the very first conversation that I had with Mike Shanahan, he's called me in his office. He said – he called me 84. He's like, 84, I can throw you 100 balls, but I don't think we can win like that.

32:26Shannon Sharpe:He said somewhere between 60 and 80 balls is what we can get you and be successful. Well, I wanna win, I wanna go to a championship. Yeah. Hall of Fame wasn't even on my mind. I wouldn't even, I mean, seven round draft pick, they ain't got no damn business thinking about no damn Hall of Fame. Yeah. You better, hey, you just hope you got a job the next day. Bang. Man, please. I used to go to people, boy, you ain't catching but one pass in the Super Bowl. I don't care if I ain't catching no passes. Hello. My ring got the same amount of diamonds as Ray Lewis has got. his might got MVP on the side but that's okay mine got the Bronco logo the Raven logo at the top I'm cool hell of a feat DeMar DeRozan is signing a one year deal with the Denver Nuggets Chicago Saturday August 22nd join tag team legends the Hardys as they bring the Hardy party to the Barn Hockey Bar get to know Matt and Jeff Hardy with a special Q &A and be a part of a once-in-a-lifetime meet-and-greet opportunity with the GOATS of tag team wrestling.

36:18Shannon Sharpe:$9 million. The move comes a day after the Nuggets completed a multi-team trade that sent restricted free agent Peyton Watson to the Cavaliers. Joe, do you like this move? I love not only the shooter, Ocho, but I love DeMar going to Denver, Uncle Ocho, another guy, veteran guy, who's a proven score. You know, you lose Peyton Watson because you played Bron. So to bring him in on a discount, another guy who probably he can win your playoff series bro you know when you when Jokic is drawing all his attention you got another guy who you can go to down the stretch who's just as potent down the stretch and making plays and making game winning shots a guy who can always get to his spot obviously great in ISO situations I think he's going to be a pretty good fit the only thing I worry about with DeMar is about his floor spacing and him shooting that three ball I know he ain't no three He ain't no three-shooter, Uncle Ocho, but you're going to have to work on it because playing with Yoke, he's a pass first.

37:23Shannon Sharpe:Even though he put up guided numbers offensively, but he's a pass first big, and he needs the floor space, and he going to find you. You just got to be ready to shoot that thing. But I think the thing is, off the double team, he's another guy that can go get his own shot. Yep. And see, that's what hurt them is that once Murray – And Murray kind of wore down against – they did an unbelievable job. McDaniel did. He wore his – he wore him down. Yeah. Ain't no way around it. He wore him down. Yep, yep, yep. Now you got another guy that we can pass the ball to that can go in the middie. DeMar DeRozan is still deadly in the middie now.

38:02Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Yeah. He's probably one of the only – he's probably one of the only few guys in the NBA that's a perimeter guy who posts up. You know, he can post up. He can get a bucket. He can draw a foul. He can playmate. He can do a little bit of everything, Argan Ocho. I think it's going to be a hell of a fit. The only thing, like I said, I worry about is him consistently making that three ball. I mean, nowadays, bro, to be effective in the league, you got to be able to shoot that three. Got to be able to shoot it. So what do you do? Now you bring Cam Johnson off the bench? Because basically you got Jokic, you got Murray, you got DeMar, you got Gordon.

38:38Shannon Sharpe:Are you starting Cam Johnson? Or you got Christian Brown? Somebody got to go to the bench, Joe. I think you start Cam, you bring Bron off the bench. Okay. Yeah, you bring him off the bench. Because I think he's best coming off the bench, Uncle Ocho playing against that second unit, meaning Bron to where he can come in and really flourish and get his stuff off. I think he's best in that role. Yeah, he ended up – he got his money. he played well in that when they played the Heat. Yeah, the year they won it. Yeah. And he ain't been that since.

39:21Shannon Sharpe:They've been trying to move him. Everybody's like, nah, we're not finna take that bad contract. We're not finna reward y 'all for giving that bull job contract. He stuck like... Because he hit the scene unexpectedly. Nobody expected that. Now when you put them expectations on him, you gave him that big contract, and you You put them expectations on them, okay, Ocho? Damn, what are them 17, 18 points that now that you were giving us? You were the fourth option, you know what I mean? Yeah, but now people know what I can do, so now they guard me differently. Facts. Kyle Pitts handed Falcons rookie Zachariah Branch several dental checks, totally more than 30 ,000 after the offense went out to eat.

40:06Shannon Sharpe:check this out guys

40:36Shannon Sharpe:Oh my god. I'm gonna help you. I'm gonna help you.

40:43Shannon Sharpe:Oh! Oh shit. Yo ass dead. Oh my god. They got three books out of them. 14. My nigga. My nigga. Yo, hey. Hey, yo. Hey. Hey, I remember those days. Hold on, Ocho, he ain't got to the season yet. Y 'all don't let him get to the season? And you know, you gotta get that rookie dinner out the way. Hey. And that, you get that rookie dinner out the way. Hey, and he can play. Nah, nah, he can go. He transferred, he transferred from USC with the Georgia. He got some will. Went to Georgia. He got some will. Boy, he can go. He can go. He can go. He nice. I remember them days. I tell y 'all what, at that time, my little credit card I had, that little$5 ,000 limit, hell, we for max that thing out.

41:40Shannon Sharpe:You weren't even gonna go through. It was gonna decline. Hell, it was. Listen, man, how y 'all do them folks like that, man? I ain't even have no credit card, Joe. All I had, I had to go by the bank, got some money, and they stood me up. I had the memo and everything. hey i remember my rookie dinner my rookie dinner uh it was it was ron dugan's peter warwick uh danny farmer was there at the time um uh darnay scott remember darnay scott yeah yeah yeah darn from san nago state right yeah yeah darnay yeah yeah he went to san nago state and yeah they they didn't do me there they didn't do me wrong well i did them wrong had dental.

42:24Shannon Sharpe:Did you really? Oh, I hit Clint Portis and Leslie for$22 ,000. Damn! What? Yeah, I didn't do that. Matter of fact, after my rookie dinner, my next year, matter of fact, my whole career, I never did it to any of the other players. I'm trying to think. Do we have I don't even know who we had my last year in Denver, but Portnale was my first year back in Denver. Rod Smith and Rod was undrafted free agent. Carswell was a seventh round draft pick. So we ain't do them too bad. I was like, you know what? I'm going to let y 'all off the hook, but I got to get these stakes for my dog. Oh, man. You said you ain't doing that bad, and you cost them$2 ,000.

43:09No, I did portals.

43:10Shannon Sharpe:I did portals and them dirty. Yes, absolutely. Absolutely. The 1 ,000%. Yeah, me. I get the most expensive. The most expensive. Everybody. we get the most expensive yeah so the lobster you gotta get at least a full pile of lobster hey hey hey so what y 'all do to the guys who just like man damn that I ain't paying for that that's not an option that don't happen Joe because you know coming in it's a ritual it's an unspoken rule unwritten rule because next year somebody's going to be a rookie and you can return the favor it used to be really bad Joe guys would see and this is why I had to like assert myself be the adult in the room I'm not going to let you take no man my wife family coming to town no you're not you're not taking them anything you better stop your ass by McDonald's or Burger King but they ain't getting nothing from here and you not finna take no 25 no five no five thousand dollar bottle of wine home man come on now are you if you all i said i said guys if you get it you gotta eat it that's it that was the only rule that we had if you get it you gotta eat it i'm not gonna let you i'm not gonna let you hit these guys up for no five thousand dollar bottle of wine so you can have it sitting on your sitting on your thing but there's some places that do that sometimes you just gotta you know You got to be the dog in the room sometimes, Joe.

44:45Shannon Sharpe:You know, Joe? It's like, nah, we're not finna do that. Other than that. Right. And Lalee was a first-round pick. Portis was a second-round pick. Portis having an outstanding season. Yeah, man,$22 ,000, that ain't nothing. Damn. They said$22 ,000. Ain't nothing. That ain't nothing. Ain't nothing. I mean, it's probably like$18 ,000. By the time you leave with like a$4 ,000 tip. Man, them people been working on us hand and foot, bringing us hot dinner rolls, bringing us all the tea and soda and stuff that we want. They kept the food hot and fresh. That's the least we could do. Nah, nah, nah. Nah, they ain't here.

45:28Shannon Sharpe:They ain't here. Woo! Boy, sweating bullets calling their financial advisors and all that, man. Yeah. Yeah. What? You know, Rod and them, they came up a little short. I was like, you know what, man? I'm gonna help y 'all out. Cause you know me, I need a limo by myself. I need to navigate a limo. Navigate a limo to hold one person. Damn. Ocho, cause when I'm ready to go, I'm ready to go. Oh, you trying to get out of there. You ain't waiting on everybody else. I'm not finna drive and drop him off, then drop him off, then drop him off, then drop him off, and I'm the last one stuck in the limo. I'm the last one getting home.

46:10Shannon Sharpe:Nah. Hey, look, I'm with Uncle on that. I hate rounding people up. Man, when it's time to go, I like to hit the door. Pew, pew, pew, I'm in my car gone. I don't want to have to tell 10 people, hey, look, we about to get ready to go. Now the whole spot, no, we about to go. Hell no, I like to be, I'm in now like a robbery. Because guess what happens? When you ride with somebody, man, I just got on old girl, man. Give me 10 minutes. Give me 10 minutes. I'll be ready to go. Don't worry about it.

46:43Shannon Sharpe:Hey, Joe, hey, man, man, dang, sharp, man. And then I might be hollering at something and I'm not ready to go. You ready to go. So I tell you what, don't worry about it. Drop your own ish. Drop your own ish, and then we ain't got to worry about it. Facts, that's how I am, bro. Damn, that.

47:06Shannon Sharpe:But look, the only person, the only person that I would go out with and he could drive or I would drive was Burns because I know when he's ready, I'm going to be ready. Because I'm not going without him. He's not going without me. So we could rock like that. Yeah. Right. But other than that, I'm not riding with none of you guys. Absolutely not. And I'm not getting a limo with you guys. I'm not doing nothing. I got my own limo. But that was fun. That was, but see that's all a part of it. That's team bonding, that's team building. Yeah. I mean we stealing guys' trucks and driving them way out there and parking them in the field and leaving them running.

47:52Shannon Sharpe:Damn! Oh yeah, we had to get them, Joe. We had to get them. And y 'all are extreme with it. That's just a little too much. That's too much. Yeah. But see the thing is Joe, what you mean too much Joe? If somebody were to steal your truck, you were in there practicing, you wouldn't know until you guys, just imagine you practicing and you see your truck two miles away and the lights are on the doors open come on man hey hey joe hey coming out the parking lot coming out the parking lot in the player in the player's parking lot and your car sitting on bricks oh man come on man and oh that's that's the d lineman playing like that that's the d line we should nail we should uh uh because you know guys always we wanna be late.

48:34Shannon Sharpe:We'll nail the locker shut. They can't get their cleats. And we done hit all the hammers. Man, ain't nobody near this for Sharp. Man, Sharp, you play, bro, why Sharp always gotta be behind it? My locker working just fine. This man say, they nail your locker shut. Yeah. Guy rushing in there trying to help get his stuff on for practice.

49:08that's cold-blooded there boy hey hey hey because it ain't nothing like seeing a cat

49:13Shannon Sharpe:running there boy he know he about to be late for practice i'm talking about he he he five balling through that thing you hear me what i i i like i like the one of my favorite moments man is seeing a rookie defense uh rookie defensive tackle you know we all walk out we all get out of music at at the same time. And ain't nobody hanging around after we've been there all day. Walk out in that parking lot, we all going home and just to see that car sitting on the seat and the bricks. Man, I be sick. Boy, you talk about laughter. I go back in there, Ocho, go to the bathroom. You know what, somebody been acting up.

49:51Shannon Sharpe:He been acting up. Put them pants in the whirlpool and put them in the refrigerator. Oh. Until they freeze? Frozen solid. Will you see him walking out there with Bronco gear?

50:12Shannon Sharpe:Oh, we going to get you. Oh, we going to get you. Damn. Oh, yeah. Oh, man. That's what you missed. That's what I missed. Yeah. I honestly, yeah, the money is nice. Don't get me wrong. I don't miss playing in front of that. And, hey, we do good. We do good now. I miss the camaraderie. That's what I miss. I miss the bus rides. I miss the locker rooms. That's what I miss. We never going to get that again. You see how we are when we get together? Just imagine. You got 30 people like that. Yeah. Man.

51:01Shannon Sharpe:So somebody, hold on. Oh, they got, oh, Dez. I think Jerry ended up having to pay Dez, Bill. Yeah. Yeah, Dez didn't pay it. Jerry ended up paying it. Damn. That's what I'm talking about. Jerry, come back. Yeah. Boy, that was a, boy. We had a time, though. We had a time, boy. So, hey, if y 'all saw what we had, I can't tell y 'all what all was going on in the steakhouse, but we had a ball. Yeah. We had a ball. What?

51:40Shannon Sharpe:Steakhouse jam-packed with people. So we had to pay extra to keep, you know, keep, hey, y 'all the only ones working in here. Y 'all folks just don't get out.

52:07Shannon Sharpe:but we had it going on
