In short

The episode is a sports-and-talk segment focused on NFL and NBA headlines, plus some games and wordplay. Topic 1: Travis Hunter’s baptism before a game. The hosts discuss Hunter’s quote that he planned to be baptized for a while, wanted to “change my life forward” and “leave that old flesh,” and that “God always come first.” They argue the baptism timing (Sunday morning) isn’t the reason for any game outcome and that people should not assume he was “unfocused.” Notable example: a comparison to a colleague who got baptized Sunday morning because he was mentally checked out. Topic 2: Kyrie Irving as LeBron’s most compatible teammate.

Guest backgrounds

none; this is commentary by the hosts and references to NBA figures. Key claim: Kyrie’s ball-handling, off-ball ability, and scoring fit LeBron best (contrasted with Wade and AD). Topic 3: Alvin Kamara threatening retirement if traded. Key claim: Kamara is too competitive to leave a worse situation; plus contract/dead-cap details make retirement unlikely. Notable example: “pina colada” trade-rumor talk.

2:40Shannon Sharpe:Ocho, there's been a lot made about Travis Hunter getting baptized before the game on Sunday. Travis was asked why he decided. Here was his response. Let's take a listen to his response. Did he get baptized this morning? Yes. Why did you do that? It's a crazy question. Why did I get baptized? Sunday. It's God's day. I've been planning to get baptized for a minute. I want to change my life forward and become a better man. What does it mean to you? It means a lot. Becoming a better man, leaving my old flesh, and just becoming a new Travis. I like that. I like that. And I saw one of your old colleagues saying that he got baptized on a Sunday before a game.

3:25Shannon Sharpe:Because he was mentally checked out and he opted to get baptized the morning of the game. He wasn't focused. I mean, what are we talking about? Listen, you're able to play this game. You understand? God always come first. Not football. God always come first. Understanding why you even had the privilege to make it this far in life. Getting baptized before a game ain't a bad thing. Like Travis said, he did it on a Sunday. And what is Sunday reserved for? My grandma told me Sunday is always the Lord's Day. It's a day of rest. I'm getting ready to go out here and go to war. I'm a changed man. I want to leave that old flesh alone, and I'm going to get baptized.

4:08Now, the fact that Travis got baptized, hell, I need to go get baptized again, too, because the last one wearing off.

4:13Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Yeah, I think that here's the thing. I don't think she meant the like, why did you do it? Because we understand why people go through baptism. I think she wanted to say, why did you pick today to get baptized? The day of the game. You know what I'm saying, Ocho? I think that's what she wanted to say, but it didn't come out quite the way she wanted it to. Because we know why people get baptized. Because you go down, the old person, you come up a new person. Yes. Yes. All the all the things that that did in the past that he's like, I want to be a better. I want to be a better man. I want to be a better father.

4:48Shannon Sharpe:I want to be a better son. All that. All the things that that I was done. That old flesh. I come up as a new person. Yes, sir. So I and I'm like, I don't think she meant it. Like, why did you do it? Because I think people understand the reason why a person gets baptized. I think she's looking at like on Sunday, you know, you couldn't get baptized on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday. You pick the day of the game. And I think that's what that's what she really wanted to say. But it's kind of hard because when you start tinkering with people's religion, ask them why they do this or why they prayed or why they did that.

5:25Shannon Sharpe:Right. People are going to kind of kind of look at you, kind of look at those funnies. Yeah, I don't I don't see anything wrong with it. obviously doing it in the morning, you know, and going into a game fresh, new, after getting baptized, ain't nothing wrong with that. Ain't nothing wrong with that at all. I commend Brother Hunter, newly married, and I think it's a great thing. It's a great thing. Now, what I will say is I wish they had used him a little bit more. Right. I just want to throw that out there. I think they did a little bit more. I mean, he did it. That's what, you know, he chose to get baptized on a Sunday.

6:00Shannon Sharpe:Would I have done it? No. but there are a lot of things that I've done in the past other people wouldn't have done. There are a lot of things that people done in the past that I wouldn't have done. So to each his own I don't think that's the reason they won or lose a game they didn't lose because Travis Hunter got baptized that's not the reason why they lost the game. People are like well he ain't focused I mean. Man come on there. Hey speaking of baptism you know I could go? You in Miami Yeah, yeah, yeah, but I need I need you there. I need the whole team. I need I need everybody there when I get baptized Man in the chat we that might be something we need to live stream Man look here that water might start boiling.

6:43Shannon Sharpe:I get up in that water I'm just saying over so you don't want me there just yet. Oh, let me let me get the 26 You know and I'll go get baptized with you and we might have to go We might have to go to the promised land or something right to go, you know, to Jerusalem. Yeah. Hey matter of fact Hey, let's do that we can take a little trip just a little trip all the way to Jerusalem and get baptized wherever wherever Jesus wherever where Jesus was at whatever that in Jerusalem yeah he was born in Jerusalem and how far is that flight just a minute all right well wait listen listen we come back we come back so it's in Israel right so yeah well we need to go over there and get baptized I think we better hold off on going to Israel right now let's just hold off okay you know they got some things going on over there okay okay so we we gonna wait a little while i'm gonna get i'm gonna get baptized here man i'm gonna get baptized here and uh the chat i'm gonna i'm gonna need y 'all y 'all to come on with me yeah uh they say uh the jordan river jordan okay yeah hey yeah we got we get baptized joy that's over there by the red sea ain't it i don't know i think we better we go you know what i'm saying don't you know we're gonna keep it private because you know we don't want people protesting our baptism.

8:03Shannon Sharpe:People play too much, JoJo. They don't want us to, you know what I'm saying? They don't want us to. Right, but I think it's a good thing because if Travis doing, he want to be a new man and leave that old flesh, I think we can leave that old flesh behind too and become better men. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, listen, I'm going to try not to backslide, but... That's what I'm saying. yeah i'm willing to do it yeah because you got you got to leave it over there because you know if you don't if you don't leave that old flesh down you're gonna pick it up when you step out so i'm trying to leave it over there ocho so yeah that's tough i told you two years don't you i'm gonna get married i'm getting married in two years now wait you we we okay well we will get married in two years yeah yeah wait hey two is too long now two is too long because this what you need to understand okay what you do now what you wait i'm gonna get i'm gonna get married on my birth i would get married on my birthday oh okay okay let me make sure i'm free let me make sure i'm there with my beautiful beautiful bride look into the eyes wait hold on hold on hold on hold on hold on hold on now when you say you get married in two years that means you have to already have someone in place or in play for that said marriage

9:25Oh, okay. You ready? You ready? You ready? You ready? Well, shoot. I'm getting married too then. Fuck that. Yeah. Yeah. We're going to be married. Yeah. Long as I had that white horse, that white horse. Hey, I'm Hoda Kotb, host of the podcast Joy 101 with Hoda Kotb. Okay. If you know me, you know this. 10:06I've gone through

10:07Shannon Sharpe:breast cancer and then helped my mother through breast cancer, and that was more difficult. There's a lot of people who understand postpartum depression. I was not prepared for postpartum anxiety. Olympic champ Shawn Johnson revealed why she had no choice but to be a gymnast. There was something about gymnastics that was intoxicating to me. 10:40American soccer has exploded. The knockout rounds are here. The U.S. won their group and now every match is win or go home. Score!

10:51Shannon Sharpe:USA! I'm Tad Ramos. And I'm Tom Bogert. On our podcast, Inside American Soccer, we'll talk about the real storylines. I'm not worried about Pulisic. I'm not worried about Balogun. I'm not worried about McKinney. My only concern is what happens in the back. And give you the truth about the U.S. national team from inside the program. It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals or potentially a great run into the semifinals. Whether you're a lifelong fan or this is your first World Cup. We've got you covered. Listen to Inside American Soccer with Tom Bogart and Tabramos on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

11:35I'm Jake Brennan, and on the Disgraceland podcast, I explore the wild lives of rock stars and unbelievable true crime stories from music history. These are the stories you haven't heard, the kind you'll end up telling someone else. Like the time Paul McCartney spent in one of the world's most notorious prisons. Imagine that. You're Paul McCartney. It's 1980. You're an ex-Beatle, And you're doing time in one of Japan's worst prisons right there alongside Yakuza gangsters and for a ridiculous charge. Or the bizarre crime Lady Gaga is accused of. Who is the artist Lady Gaga is being accused of doing the unthinkable to after allegedly stealing her music and style to become famous?

12:24And what about that time Blondie's Debbie Harry escaped a serial killer? The man who had given her that ride she barely escaped from was Ted Bundy. Listen to Disgraceland on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

12:59now. This kid Jafar Jackson is as good as Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury and it's as good as Timothy Chamillai as Bob Dylan and I say that with love and respect for both of those actors and I don't know how many Oscar nominations they give out I don't know if it's five six for best actor 150 percent this kid Jafar Jackson should absolutely positively get nominated for his portrayal as Michael Jackson. Listen to I Am Rappaport on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

13:35Shannon Sharpe:I Am Rappaport Podcast. You said to me, yo, you know, keep at it because you let me rap for you. It was magical for all of us. We made it. We made it. I'm like, we, you know, I'm like, I know these guys, but who are you? I'm MC Jin and this is Laugh But Not Lease. I'll be chatting with guests from all walks of life about the power of humor when it comes to facing difficult times. Like the co-founder of Rough Riders, Darren D. Dean. Talking about as a kid. Do you remember that we met even way before that? Let me think. Did you walk up to the gate? That was me, D. That was you? That was me. The day we found out that you and the whole crew was at Hit Factory, the mission was to get me to go to the gate, start freestyling, and see if I could get in the studio.

14:21I'm rapping my name. And then suddenly I hear a voice. Hey, open the gate. Let him in. The gate slowly went. Come, come, come, come, come, come. They all they watching this and they watch me walk into there. And that is a moment that I will remember for the rest of my life. Listen to Laugh But Not Least with MC Jen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

14:40Shannon Sharpe:Liam Cohen said that they're making it a priority to design and call more plays in which Travis is the number one option to take advantage of his speed and athleticism. Skimming him open is a part of it. Number one, our job as an offensive staff is to make sure we're putting him in the progression and putting him in position to be the number one option a little bit more often in some ways. Trevor Lawrence echoed that sentiment, saying he's able to do a lot for us. And obviously, there's a lot on his plate as far as what we can do for our team. He's a great corner. He's a great receiver. But I think trying to find the right way to use him is something that we're always looking to do every week.

15:21Yeah, I just said it. You pick him with the number two pick, huh? Yes. You pick him with the number two pick. So his usage should reflect that said pick. And they don't use him enough. Now, obviously, you want to bring him along a little slow and add more to his plate as you go. But it's not nowhere near where it should be going into week six and week seven. He's too talented on both sides of the ball. Well, you can't find ways. You don't have to scheme Travis Hunter open. you don't have to I mean you can at times but his athletic ability offensively he can do damage he can you can put him in the right position to do what you want

16:01Shannon Sharpe:when they say scheme him open up to I say put him in the scheme where he's the first option normally Brian Thomas Jr. is the first option so now we're going to you know A B Thomas is still our guy but sometimes we're going to flip it because you know sometimes okay you know Chase is the number one option but sometimes That's Higgins. That touchdown pass that he hit Higgins with, that was Higgins with the number one option, with the first option. So sometimes, you know, instead of always having him two or three, put him one. Say, Trev, that's your first option. And see where we go. You know, hey, stack him.

16:38Shannon Sharpe:Look, he's not polished yet as far as route running. So, hey, stack him. But his athleticism will allow him to make plays that a lot of other receivers that are a lot more polished won't be able to make. But give him an opportunity. Put him in a situation where he can succeed. Because he hits. And that way you'll keep him engaged. You'll keep him engaged because he's like, man, all I'm doing is getting cardio out here today. You can't throw a guy, a guy that's used to having the ball in his hands like he was at college. Also, you can't give him two, three targets a game and say that's good. No, it's not.

17:17Not when he can make the plays that he makes. Exactly. Yeah. Matter of fact, Trav, come on down here with your boy in Miami. You're not too far. You're right there in Jacksonville. All season. Come on down here, man. Holla at your boy. We're going to work on the routes. I'm going to have you out there looking like me. I'm telling you. Man.

17:40Shannon Sharpe:Alvin Kamara suggested today that he would consider retirement if the Saints trade him up ahead of the season deadline. Mickey Loomis and I talked about the trade rumors and we were looking at each other like little Spider-Man memes. Like, did you say something? Did I say something? I don't know where that came from, but I don't want to go anywhere. I've said it countless times. You know that. I think everybody knows that. The fan base knows that. So if Mickey comes down here and says that I'm going to go drink a pina colada somewhere else, Kamara's under contract through the 2026 season and is set to have an$11 million base,$11.5 million base salary next season.

18:15Shannon Sharpe:Three of that is fully guaranteed, and he has an$18.6 million cap hit. Anytime anything like that comes out, it always comes from upstairs. It always comes from in-house. I don't see him retiring when you can contribute somewhere else. Yes. I would want to go somewhere. He's been there his whole career. He's good in the community and they love Alvin down there. but don't you want to don't you want a chance to win yeah I mean for me I don't know I guess I mean it is first of all it's already tough it's a tough game to play yeah it gets even tougher when you're losing I don't care what the scenery is I don't care if you're in Miami I don't care if you were in LA when you're losing the weather can't be great enough right now i know they practice on a dome i get all that ocho and i understand new orleans and and the food and and he's built up a relationship in the community yeah but at the end of the day i'm too i'm too me i'm just too competitive yeah most definitely i ain't hey man i ain't doing all that damn practice and all that meeting the way i train you see i mean he posts videos of how he's training yeah and to lose and you mean to tell me you're gonna send me someplace that they're winning because i know you're not gonna send me to something obviously it's going to be somebody that feels they can use Alvin Kamara.

19:44Shannon Sharpe:So you're not going to send him to a situation that's worse than the situation that he's in. And nobody's in a worse situation than you going to trade for him. Right.

19:55Shannon Sharpe:That's I think the thing is he's like oh he tried to put that oh I'll retire. You ain't going to leave that money on the table. Absolutely not. Absolutely not. And they're going to send you to a situation that is favorable for you where you can continue to showcase your talents on a team that is winning. Yeah. Releasing him before 2026 season will still incur an$18.2 million dead cap hit. The Pina Colada statement is like he's trying to spook him away, man, we can't trade for him. He's going to retire. He ain't retiring. No. Absolutely not. Now, you made that Derek Carr money. You done made$225, $250 quarter bill.

20:39Shannon Sharpe:Then it's okay. I'll have a show. Hey, I'm Hoda Kotb, host of the podcast Joy 101 with Hoda Kotb. Okay, if you know me, you know this. The day we found out that you and the whole crew was at Hit Factory, the mission was to get me to go to the gate, start freestyling, and see if I could get in the studio.

25:26I'm rapping, and then suddenly I hear a voice. Hey, open the gate. Let him in. The gate slowly went. Come, come, come, come, come, come. They all, they're watching this, and they watch me walk into there, and that is a moment that I will remember for the rest of my life. Listen, and last but not least, with MC Jen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'll holla at you on the back end.

25:51Shannon Sharpe:Brian Windhorst says Kyrie was LeBron's best and most compatible teammate ever. In my opinion, the best, most compatible teammate LeBron has ever had is Kyrie. There were moments where he and Wade were transcendent, and there were moments where he and AD were impossible to deal with. But the guy he played with, the best fit, his skill set, was Kyrie because you need a guy who can handle the ball, and that's also awesome off the ball. He's right. Yeah. In Cleveland, boy, they were nice. They were real nice. Very nice. They played very well off each other too. Kyrie was just starting to figure it out.

26:37Yeah, you explained to me as well as they played, you explained to me that Kyrie need to go somewhere else where it could be his team. Yeah.

26:50I don't know. I don't know why.

26:51Shannon Sharpe:I don't know why you would leave a great situation like that. Because everybody wants to prove they're the guy. Why Kobe wanted to be by himself? To prove that he was the guy. And who was Kyrie's mentor?

27:07Shannon Sharpe:I don't, man. I mean, sometimes, Ocho, you just have to. James Harden needed his own team. I mean, to be a sixth man in OKC with Russ and KD, you saw what James Harden became when he got his own team? Nasty. Yes. Yes.

27:32Shannon Sharpe:D-Wade figured out a way to play. With LeBron? Yeah. With LeBron off the ball because D-Wade had the ball, and he figured it out. AD was easy to play with because it's natural. You got a big and you got a little. I mean, even though LeBron's not small. Right. But Kyrie could, hey, do you. I could give Kyrie the ball. Kyrie bring the ball up. Kyrie could dance. Kyrie could shoot the three. Kyrie had a mid-range. Kyrie could get all the way to the rim. The thing was D-Wade needs to start to give out. Now, if he played with D-Wade from the jump, it might have been a different story. He and AD was great because AD's a big.

28:10Shannon Sharpe:LeBron can get in the ball, AD do what he does. But Kyrie, his ability to handle the ball, his ability to finish at the rim with either hand, he could shoot the three, he could mid-range. He had offensively, Kyrie has no weakness. But he just felt that, you know, I've done all I can do in Cleveland, and I need my own team. What do you think would have happened if they stayed together? They'd have won more titles. Would it be the same as if Shaq and Kobe stayed together? I think Shaq would have needed to drop a few pounds. Shaq had started to let his weight get a little bit away from him. I mean, I think Shaq said in 2002 he had got up to over 400 pounds, even though his weight was listed at 325.

28:55Shannon Sharpe:Shaq would have really needed to rededicate himself. But, yeah, had he redone that, yeah, they could have won more. Yeah, Shaq was still dominant. Yeah. Shaq was still dominant. but at that weight playing every other night up and down you see the toll it started taking on his ankles I don't know if you've ever seen Shaq in person Shaq is a John Normans man because a lot of times you see players and they're thin Shaq is a big big big ass heavy bone man so it's easy for him to for his weight to get out of control but if he rededicated himself he said you know what I'm going to give myself the next three years I'm going to be in the best shape of my life at worst case they win two titles I'm not saying they don't I'm saying that worst case they win two they probably go to three with the department you know San Antonio was always going to give them a problem because Tim Duncan and that sister but I do believe with Kobe being what Kobe was and what he had become and Shaq still being as dominant as he was even at his size so I take 50 pounds off Shaq ain't nobody dealing with Shaq ain't nobody dealing with Shaq no hell no but like I said you know you won't the same thing Brady and Belichick I need to see who gets the credit Ocho I need to see I need to see if I'm without you and you without me Shaq Colby I need to see that it should have been a situation Shaq, Kobe should have been like Kareem and Magic

30:41Shannon Sharpe:but that's not Kobe's personality Kobe's personality is not Magic's personality, Magic was perfectly content get on down to Cap, I got you you know Magic tells a story that in what 87 when Pat Riley told him he needed him to score more he said, you run that by Cap which means have you talked to Kareem about wanting me to score more which means I'm going to shoot more which means that's going to take more shot opportunities away from him he's like yeah he's like okay Magic won the MVP

31:17Shannon Sharpe:that's not how Kobe was wired Kobe was wired he saw Mike Kobe trained himself he walked like Mike he everything you see that that that the calf he had the knee sleeve rolled out of his calf He had the wristband around his elbow. Everything except the number. And he didn't go ball. He cut it late like, nah. And he had his – that was it. So he had Mike's mentality. Mike was an assassin. Mike was a scorer.

31:50Shannon Sharpe:Everybody ain't wired to be, okay, I'm cool with it. As long as we win it, I'm cool. Everybody can't handle that, don't you? They can't. Man. Bleacher Report released their top 100 players in the NBA. And here's a countdown. Ooh, top 15. Jalen Williams, J-Dub, is number 15. Mobley from the Cavaliers is 14. Cade Cunningham is 13. AD, Anthony Davis, is 12. KD is 11. Jalen Brunson is 10. Spider Mitchell is 9 LeBron James is 8 Ant is 7 Wemby is 6 Steph is 5 Luka is 4 Giannis is 3 Shea is 2 Jokic is 1 Well they got that right They got that right Is there anything based on the list that you just That you just read you would change?

33:05Shannon Sharpe:man it's hard for me to put wimby that high after one year i know i know he's seven five and he's a freak ocho but he's played one year but well he got hurt last year he like i said he played okay he played one of the he played one year in 20 games so hold on hold on you take you take wimby out then who you put there

33:35you see how you thinking that's exactly why they got wimby in that spot no

33:42Shannon Sharpe:i think i brought i bump everybody down one day

33:49Shannon Sharpe:because if you if you look at the ocho everybody else obviously obviously look When you look at the top three, what are we talking about? We're talking about Jokic, three MVPs, two seconds, a finals MVP, average of triple, double. So what are we talking about? We saw Shea, 31, six and five. I know Shea averaged 32 points, 33 points. He's averaged like 30 points the last three years, finals MVP, regular season MVP. Giannis, a two-time MVP, a finals MVP, still playing the top of his game. Luka, we Luka. Steph The question is Did they leave Tatum off because Tatum's injured? Well then You can't say they left Tatum off because Tatum's injured Because Wimby was injured too No but I'm saying but he's playing this year He's playing to start the season There's no guarantee now You hear reports that Jason Tatum is Pitching the Celtics that he wants to play this year Nobody has really played So soon after the McKeeleys tear We'll see if that if that works out.

34:52Shannon Sharpe:But that's my only thing. Had Wimby played a couple years, there's no denying. I mean, he can get you rebounds. He can block shots. He's the most feared defender probably since Hakeem Olajuwon at the big. Because you see guys getting on the fast break and he's back. They're like, nah, let's reset that thing.

35:20so hey hold on the season starts next week don't it

35:24Shannon Sharpe:yes I think the 21st I think the 21st yeah we going to sit course out of the liquor game yeah if you give me my 5900 so I can get a ticket nah Miss Buster give it to me we good people ticked off that KD being 11 but people also think Wimby's too high. They think they ranked him on what could be, not what is currently.

35:56Shannon Sharpe:I think I would make the question, because people, and I think I saw something today where people was like, do away with the whole list because they got Brunson in front of KD.

36:09Shannon Sharpe:Brunson been balling, man. Hey, acting a fool. He been balling. I mean, think about it. You ain't even got Joel Embiid on the list. No Kawhi. No James Harden.

36:24Damn.

36:30Shannon Sharpe:No Jason Tatum. No Jalen Brown. No Devin Booker. No Book.

36:43Shannon Sharpe:I think what's amazing in year 23, Bron is in the top 10. Yeah, absolutely. I don't think we'll ever see that again.

36:56I mean, you got some good players that didn't make the list.

37:02Shannon Sharpe:Shingun. Obviously, Dane's not going to play this year. Where would Dane be? I don't think Dane would be in the top 15. Also, you have to understand, this list, this is the elite of the elite. oh yeah yeah yeah he's elite of the league now some of the some of the names oh paulo banquero but is he a monster he's a monster but is he in the conversation with those that you just named yeah yeah yeah yeah especially especially kade mobley jaylen williams yeah man banquero man that big body dude he nice whoo wee that's a whole bunch of tier 1 players you just called him that's how it was supposed to be it's supposed to be tough if you could just arbitrarily throw out a name what are we doing here you're supposed to be when you're trying to pick between the best of the best it's supposed to be splitting hairs because if it's not what are the comparison what are we doing right it needs to be difficult man I don't know man dude did go to four made five all NBA teams yeah but dude he made like all defensive right what about Zion you consider Zion no Zion I can't put no trust in him hopefully he's lost some weight and so hopefully he can keep it going he can keep his weight down He came back small, man.

38:36Shannon Sharpe:He's small. Ocho, you know the easiest thing to do is to lose weight in the offseason. What happens when you're traveling and you're tired and you get in at 1 o 'clock, 2 o 'clock in the morning? Are you still going to make those healthy choices, same healthy choices? Right.

38:53Shannon Sharpe:Are you going to get your cardio in? Are you going to hit the weight like you was in the offseason? It's easy. It's easy in the offseason, Ocho. but as for a basketball player when you getting in 2, 3 o 'clock in the morning hey man let me get that, hey can I get those wings let me get that burger fries are you going to order the chicken breast are you going to order the fish are you going to get water that's that's the difference NBA

39:28Shannon Sharpe:NBA most valuable franchises valuations was released today. The Warriors are at the top$11.33 billion. The Lakers are number two at$10 billion. The Knicks$9.8 billion. The Clippers$6.72 billion. The Celtics$6.35 billion. The Nets, 6.22. The Bulls, 6.12. The Heat, 6.03. Sixers, 5.61. Rockets, 5.53. And the Mavericks at 5.24. That tells me everything. Hey, Steph Curry should play. If Steph Curry want to play 30 years, they should say, go ahead, Steph. Yeah, go ahead and do it. That's because of Steph Curry. them being valued as much as they are yeah hell yeah

40:25Shannon Sharpe:that's why Steph is going to be able to play as long as he wants to play you think he'll stay in Golden State the whole time all the time yep yep he's a guy like a Magic Johnson like a Larry Bird that should be one franchise guys I mean me I would love to see Tom but it's Tom stay with one franchise and I love Peyton I would love to see Peyton but you know you see Tom go somewhere else you see Brady go somewhere else you see Emmitt Smith go somewhere else you see Jerry go somewhere else you see a lot of the greats so why do you think Joe Montana why do you think Steph wouldn't go anywhere else even Michael Jordan plays somewhere else

41:16Shannon Sharpe:because they broke the team up. Steph don't strike me as a guy that's bullheaded like Mike. Mike wanted to keep this thing together. Their job is Gruber and what's the other guy's name? I forget his name. And they do a great job with Steph of trying to always make sure they got the – Joe Lacombe, Joe Lacombe and Peter Gruber. So they do a great job of trying to always put Steph in a position to win. Jordan didn't feel like Jerry Krause did that. And people get mad at Jerry Krause, but he broke it up. No, Jerry Reinsdorf broke it up. Jerry Reinsdorf is the owner. He could have said, no, I'm keeping this team together.

42:06Shannon Sharpe:And he said, no, we're going to break it up. he said he said jerry kraus said at the beginning of the year phil jackson could go 82 and 0 and we're gonna have a new coach but who gave him the authority who gave him the ability to do that the owner general managers don't do anything the owners don't allow them to do right they get paid what they get paid it's just like commissioner goodale y 'all they oh commission no no no no the 32 owners. Commissioner is the mouthpiece. He take all those blows so Jerry Jones and Mr. Kraft and all those other owners go unscathed. So he gets all that. That's why every time he goes, what do they do, Ocho?

42:48Shannon Sharpe:A boo? Every draft. I mean, can you name the draft that he's come out there and they didn't boo him? I can't in the last 15 years, Ocho. I can't. I really can't. You're right. And so, I don't see stuff going anywhere else. I really don't. I don't.

43:10Shannon Sharpe:All right, Ocho. It's time for Rough Draft and Honor of October. Oh, I was going to...

43:24Shannon Sharpe:I don't hear no sound.

Christine. Nah. Yeah. that uh that that possessed car no i didn't see that one damn it damn i know i'm i miss i miss some but off the top of my head there's a bunch of them yeah a lot of them you know that you know the shining with jack is johnny you know what else i wanted to go with remember the first blairwoods project yeah the first one um i know what you did last summer yeah it is uh what about the first paranormal activity.

Nah, man. Damn. Ocho, this describes close proximity. Someone is in the vicinity. Oh, vicinity, V-I-C-I-N-I-T-Y. That is correct. Surrounding area or district. Yes, yes. This one is like you have a mucus buildup in this, you know, it's called phlim. phlegm oh that's a good one on that's a good one now i really want to go f-l-e-m but for some reason understanding the english language i guarantee you it's not spelled like that how's the spell man i don't know probably it probably started with a goddamn p i mean listen i don't know phlegm so i'm gonna just go with how it sounds f-l-e-m p-h-l-e-g-m I knew it I knew it I knew it was one of them tricky ass goddamn words I knew it how about this one Ocho it's a fictitious name so sometimes when you check into the hotel you check in on an alias or a pseudonym a pseudonym a what?

What's the first what's the first letter you said? P. You see what you see? Why? Why? 53:169. Wrong. The answer is 10. You was close.

53:28You was close. You ready?

53:30Shannon Sharpe:Yes. Question number 2. Ocho, you know that guy. He was pretty good. Ocho is all-time Bengals leading receiver. How many yards does he have?

53:58Shannon Sharpe:11 ,000.

54:10Shannon Sharpe:11 ,060. Wrong. Ocho has 10 ,783 yards as the all-time Bengals leading yards receiver. Damn. Number three, which player, you should remember this, which player has a single-game rushing record for the Bengals? How many yards and against which opponent? Yeah, this is easy. Well, he did it against the Broncos. I know he did that. but I wasn't there at the time I was in Baltimore so let's go ahead and start with that okay okay and

54:53Shannon Sharpe:276 no it was Corey Dillon we all know 275 no it was against your Broncos we know that it was 278 yards 278

I don't do that Yeah, I got last one right here What is your all-time record versus my beloved Bengals? Oh

57:10Shannon Sharpe:We beat them in 91. We beat them in 97, 98.

57:45Six to one Nope, nine and one is the answer you were looking for Nine and one Nine and one is the answer you were looking for

57:52Shannon Sharpe:Damn, we played him that many times? We played him in 91 Yeah, I thought you was logged on Yeah, that old ass dial-up ain't working I played him I played him four times In Baltimore We beat them three and one. Maybe just the last time we played in 0-2. No, excuse me, 0-1.

58:16Shannon Sharpe:So that's three and one.

58:30Shannon Sharpe:Did we play them? We played Pittsburgh. Are you sure?

58:39Damn. Yeah. I didn't know we played that many times. Yeah. Yeah, you went one and four, too. You went one and four, just like me. Just like me.

58:50Shannon Sharpe:All right, we're going to get you out of here on this one. The last one is Q and A.

59:01Uh-huh. Let's go bangos.

59:06Shannon Sharpe:Damn. Do any graphics work tonight? Aaron Orr said, they better move Rams to the free safety. He barbecue chicken at the corner. Who they? Yeah, he struggled tonight. Catcher Freeman said, Kevin Stefanski, an imposter, not an NFL level head coach. The man's two times coach of the year. Yeah. Juiceman93 said, get them Flacco jerseys prepped and ready. Jason Zeldorf, hell has frozen over. Ocho paid the refs.

59:45Shannon Sharpe:James Coleman said, who knew the geriatric battle would go so hard? Great game. James, you're absolutely right. This was a great game. If you loved offense. Yeah. Seth said, never seen Ramsey be this abused. one of those nights happened to the best of them. Yeah.

1:00:06Shannon Sharpe:He struggled in the Super Bowl, too, against this very team. Oh, yeah. JT 5-113. And if you go back, had Aaron Donald not got in there clean? Yeah. Chase had him beat for a 12. He was up. Yeah, he was open. Flacco showed out tonight, Unc. He absolutely did. But you know Flacco can have these games like this. He can light you up. You don't pressure him. Red Hood say, we back, Unc. Ravens winning the division. Again, block up. We own the Bengals, Ocho.

1:00:37Shannon Sharpe:Stacks 448 said, Ramsey getting cooked like Chef Gordon tonight. It was a rough one for him. It happens. Cornelius Knight said, brought my first bottle of Laporte today. It was fire. Cornelius, I appreciate that. Send me an IG story. Let me see what you working with. Michael Arias said, Ocho, just pulled your signed mini helmet over and ultimate autographs. Hmm. When you sign that. Catcher Freeman said Kevin Stefanski ruined Deshaun Wasson officially. He's also over, never held a position coach job longer than a year. We now see why he's horrible. The man was a two-time coach of the year. What do you mean?

1:01:30Shannon Sharpe:Fins, New Jersey, walk a flock of flame. He got a whole lot of yardage. Jamar Chase catching for him. Black be tossing. Jamar T be balling. It's a party. It's a party. It's a party. Samuel Grant said, hey, Ocho, Ocho, I just want to know how crazy y 'all would have went if you had a game with 23 targets. Oh, I'm getting 200. Hell, I had 14 targets and got 212. 23 targets? Oh, I'm going to get close to it. See, I think my most was 11 catches for 260. So you figure you had at least 14, 15 targets. Yep. So that's enough. We're going to tag on another 8, 9. So what would that be? What, three-something?

1:02:17Shannon Sharpe:Probably. I know I'm going for it. Hey, I'm going to put that record out of there. Way, way, way, way, way, way out. Ketra Freeman said Tomlin super lame for the mess he pulled on Andrew Barry too he browsed Jim our season's over we don't owe Pittsburgh no loyalty you're absolutely right you got a draft pick and look you want to see what you got with Gabriel and maybe hey he falters you see what you got with your door you knew after this year Joe Flacco wasn't going to be there so let me get a draft pick for him Marquez Duffy said Browns would rather see Cincy win the division than the Steelers.

1:02:56Shannon Sharpe:That's why Flacco's there. True.

1:03:01Shannon Sharpe:But it don't matter. We're not winning, so I don't really care who's winning. I got a draft pick out of the deal. Dr. Frank L. Bellamy said, hey fam, take your pick. Fourth quarter comeback or a blowout win. Love y 'all. I'd rather get blown out. Man, hey, somebody nipping you the last 10, 15 seconds on your man that thing hurt that hurt boy that hurt

1:03:29Shannon Sharpe:somebody kick a walkout field goal Tim's bid said uncle no cho I guess we know why coach Tomlin was mad about that trade with Flacco he should be mad about that defense absolutely should and he's a defensive guy fans New Jersey if Rogers get injured do the Steelers trade for Flacco and not trading him. Nah, they got Mason Rudolph and Mike T said they believe in Rudolph, so no. Seb said Ramsey should apologize publicly. Man, the man had a bad night. He had a bad night. It happens. 1:15:39Shannon Sharpe:The World Cup is underway, and it's been incredible. On our podcast, The Away End, with Daniel Alarcon and John Green, we're talking about the games that have delighted us, the teams that have inspired us, what we're loving, and what surprised us, all through the lens of being massive fans of the world's most beautiful game. Daniel, this tournament has been magical so far. There's so much to love, and I can hardly believe the drama that the group stage brought us. And now it's time for us to talk about the teams that are left as the field is whittled down to one World Cup champion on July 19th.

Here's something that should not be as complicated as it is, getting a racist statue removed. And here's something that should be a whole lot easier than it is, getting a new one put up in its place. I'm Akilah Hughes, and Rebel Spirit Season 2 is about both of those things. As I was watching these statues come down, I was thinking about what it meant that I grew up in a majority Black city, in which there were more homages to enslavers than there were to enslaved people.
