In short

Seth Rollins joins Unc & Ocho to discuss WrestlePalooza, his career path, live mic work/storytelling, the toll of wrestling, and his interests outside the ring; the hosts also briefly pivot into sports talk (NFL/WNBA) during the episode.

Guests (main)

Seth Rollins, WWE performer and executive; described as a six-time WWE champion and two-time WWE Universal Champion, plus a two-time heavyweight champion. Background: started wrestling in his backyard around age 14, trained in Orlando, signed with WWE in 2000, worked up through NXT, debuted in WWE in 2012. He’s been wrestling ~22 years and has competed in 2,000+ matches.

Key claims

  • Pro wrestling is “storytelling at its core,” with bullet points/major plots but live audience reactions changing delivery.
  • Mic work is the hardest skill; only a small percentage of wrestlers can captivate crowds solo with a microphone.
  • Wrestling takes a physical toll over time, but modern prehab/rehab helps longevity.
  • WrestlePalooza is WWE’s first premium live event with ESPN (Sept. 20, Indianapolis).

Notable examples

  • Live crowd chants “constipated” during a Netflix match segment, forcing real-time adaptation.
  • WrestlePalooza card mentions Rollins and his wife vs CM Punk and AJ Lee; Brock Lesnar vs John Cena; Cody Rhodes vs Drew McIntyre.

3:02Shannon Sharpe:Hey! We got a very, very special guest joining us. Six times WWE champ. A two-time WWE universal champ. Two-time WWE champ. Two-time heavyweight champ. Here he is, ladies and gentlemen, the revolutionary. The architect, Seth Rollins. How are you? What's going on, man? Bro, I'm doing good. How are you doing? That's what's good. I got the gold on my shoulder, man. I'm feeling great. How are you guys doing? Man, we're doing amazing. Thanks for joining us. Hey, thank you boys for having me, man. Good to see you again, Ocho Senko. Yes, sir. I love you, baby. Listen, before we start, before we get serious, before we talk about Rathlin, I have one question.

3:50Sir. What are the chances you and I, we do a match? Because I've been a wrestling fan since I was a little kid, and I just would love to share the ring with you. And just whatever happens, happens. Oh, hey, man. You put your mind to it. You get down. You get training. You get going. I'm always available, my friend. We are working 52 weeks a year. We are on 24-7. Anytime you need a title shot, you let the people at WWE know. I got you back, man. Let's do it. I'd love to do the thing. We don't have to do it in front of the world. We don't have to do it in front of the world. Oh, that's the fun. That's the fun, man.

4:26Come on, don't be shy now. Let me put on 20 more pounds first. Let me put on 20 more pounds. Deal, deal.

4:35Shannon Sharpe:Seth, I mean, obviously, Universal, you guys, I've talked to a lot of wrestlers, and they say the travel and all the things that you guys go through. When did you know? Like, you know what? I really got the hang of this thing. i'm gonna do this oh man well i mean it was my dream since i was a little kid so really yeah yeah i i loved professional wrestling i fell in love with it at a super young age about 14 or so my friends and i started doing it in our backyard right and and and to me that was when i got the knack for performing that's when i we would invite our friends from school they'd come watch us on the trampolines the whole nine and i got the knack for performing there i really got like an itch for it and i thought well you know what why not why not give it a shot you know what i mean why not let it go right so you had you went through the train facility down in orlando so i trained i've been wrestling for a long time before i started training uh in orlando i signed with wwe in uh 2000 and gosh what would have been would have been 2011 10 2010 2009 maybe 2010 I believe I signed with WWE and um from there I went down to her uh actually was in Tampa at the time it was uh in a little warehouse it wasn't this beautiful training facility that we have down in Orlando now um but yeah man I suffered in a warehouse in Tampa for a couple of years sweated out uh grinded my way up the ranks in NXT and and made my debut in WWE in 2012 and the rest is history.

6:17That's dope. Hey Seth how long did it take you to get comfortable in front of the fans you know being able to engage obviously wrestling being able to perform but also have that have that savviness to make sure the fans are always engaged. I mean it's such a work in progress man you know I said I got the knack for it when I was really young and then you just you learn and you get a little bit better each time you go out there you know and then everything starts to slow down you know you know how it is when you're playing football right the more reps you get and the more time you get against these defenses everything just slows down you're it feels like you're moving at warp speed and they're moving in slow motion you know and that's sort of what it felt like for me um gosh i i suppose i really hit like a flow state probably like a decade in maybe i would say like 10 years into doing doing this thing and then uh and and every year since then it's just kind of gotten better and better and better

7:14Shannon Sharpe:yeah yeah we had your boss on triple h and he was telling us that yeah wrestling is one aspect of it but you got to be really good with this thing in your hand because you got to get the fact you got you got you got you got to win the fans over you got it you got to make the fans have a vested that's interesting you good bad you could be the heel it doesn't matter but the fans need to know myself is our guy yeah yeah I mean look it's it's it's storytelling at its core that's what we do you know it's storytelling it's it's heroes and villains and uh and it's a lot of fun and honestly that microphone you got in front of you man that that was the hardest part for me that was the part that it took yeah it took me the longest time to figure out how to feel comfortable holding the microphone standing out there.

7:57I mean, it, it is not an easy thing to stand in front of 10, 15, 20 ,000 people live in front of millions on television by yourself with a microphone and keep people captivated and interested. That is a hard task. And I would say there are less than 20 guys in our industry that can do that. Well, you know, right now, right now, you know, all time, That number expands a little bit, but it is a small percentage. And in my opinion, it is what separates the good ones from the great ones. And speaking of being in front of 15 ,000, 20 ,000, having the mic, when it comes to whatever you're going to say, has there ever been a time where you had to just go from the top of the head because you forgot exactly what your lines might have been at that time?

8:45So the thing about pro wrestling is that it's not fully scripted. it's it's it's this amazing interplay that you get with a live audience and so and so there is a there are bullet points and there's ideas and there are major plots that you want to kind of weave through your your story but you don't know what the live crowd is going to give you a prime example of that this past monday on netflix i'm in the ring it's my wife and myself we're setting up for this big match at wrestlepalooza coming up this saturday in indy which i'm sure we'll get to talk about but i'm in the ring cm punk his wife aj lee on the other side of the ring but the crowd in springfield massachusetts was going nuts they were they were chanting all sorts of wacky anything you could think of they were chanting constipated at one point constipated and then that's a real thing and you have to react to stuff like that in real time so you've got to be able to flow you know you can't just stick to what you've got if it's not working or if they want to take you in a different direction that's that's the magic of it man that's the fun of it and so you

9:48Shannon Sharpe:just go along really you're right because he's full of you know what if you think he's gonna be he is absolutely constipated see you get it you get it you understand you got it man you got a knack for it absolutely so let me uh what so what what exactly is Wrestlepalooza so Wrestlepalooza is going to be our first essentially pay-per-view or what we call premium live events in our partnership with ESPN. Okay.

10:21Okay.

10:27We're launching one right now, September 20th, Saturday, this coming Saturday from Indianapolis, Indiana, and it's going to be our first major live event, premium live event on the ESPN app. And so we're pretty stoked on it. it's going to be huge we got you know i mentioned the tag team match myself and my wife against cm punk and his wife you got brock lesnar versus john cena you got cody rhodes versus drew mcintyre um you've got a hell of a card going into this first one so it's going to be a banger man

10:57Shannon Sharpe:i like it i like so summer slam wrestlepalooza are the only thing the difference between wrestlepalooza is that this is a pay-per-view other than that summer slam uh wrestlemania all those are really the same thing but Wrestlepalooza this is the first uh pay-per-view thing that's going to be on your new partner with ESPN exactly it's just like Wrestlemania it's just like SummerSlam we just did Clash in Paris not long ago it's just like that we've been partners with Peacock for the past five years they've been incredible partners in our pay-per-view uh streaming service but we're moving to ESPN and this is the inaugural pay-per-view premium live event for WWE crossover with ESPN.

11:38Shannon Sharpe:How much longer, Seth? How much longer do you want to do this? You're going to go until – because, you know, look, there ain't no – there's no old-timers league in wrestling. Once it's done, it's done, and then you go out with the wife, and I don't know if you have kids, and then you do what you do. So how much longer? Because even though, look, we know it's entertainment, it's scripted, you still take those falls. You still fall a story. You still get flipped out of the ring and land on pavement. You landed on chairs. So that's a toll on your body. We had Shawn Michaels. We had Shawn Michaels on it.

12:13Shannon Sharpe:We had The Undertaker on. And I've done Ric Flair, and I've talked to John Cena. And it is a toll on your body. Those flips after 10, 15, 20 years, they start to accumulate, Seth. Yeah, man. I've been at it for 22 years now. I started in 2003. three. And so I've been at it for 22 years. I've wrestled over 2000 matches and you're right. It takes its toll. Fortunately, I think our generation, uh, you know, we have a lot more information, uh, available to us as far as prehab and rehab and recovery and what it takes to keep ourselves in shape, uh, athletically. Uh, and so we have an advantage in that regard, I think a little bit.

12:51So, you know, I'm almost 40 years old right now. Like I said, I've been doing it for 22 two years. I don't know, man. You know, I think the nice thing about our industry is it's, it's an entertainment, right? So you can do this for a little bit longer than your body might allow you to, you know, you, you, there are ways around, um, and the older you get, the smarter you get and the more equity you have with our audience. And so, uh, you get a little, you get a little extra time, I think. So who knows, you know, I don't know if I want to do it into my 50s. I got a couple years left on my contract with WWE.

13:28But yeah, my daughter is four and a half. She's almost five. And you know, I wouldn't I wouldn't mind spending some extra time with her in a few years. So we'll see what happens. But I don't know, man, I love this business. I've given my entire life to it. It's given me a great life. I met my wife through this business. I have my daughter because I met my wife through this business. You know, I'm able to provide at my wrestling school down in Iowa jobs for other people. I built a little mini empire out of this industry so i imagine in some capacity i will stay involved one way or another for as long

13:59Shannon Sharpe:as i can as um you mentioned you guys know more and it seems like every generation no matter what particular sport guys get to have a little bit more knowledge they're able to play a little bit longer the nutrition uh the training the things of that nature the physio to put the body back together um talking to rick rick said there's sometimes he would be wrestling three four matches in a day. And, you know, he was on the road 300, 310 days a year. And, you know, that's over. And it wasn't like it is now. So he came up in the old era. And so, like you said, you know more now. You're smarter about it.

14:37Shannon Sharpe:You built up a little bit more equity. You're universally known where it was regional back then. You had Georgia Championship Wrestling, the Mid-Atlantic. You had the Southwest. You had the, you know, the Midwest. You had the NWA. the awa you know the awa you had all these it was so regional it was hard to branch out but now what uh your former boss uh vince mcmahon was able to do he was able to put everything up under one umbrella and make it universal and so now you guys are you guys are rock stars you like you said in paris you can go anywhere you go anywhere in the country and they know who self-reporting is yeah man wwe is a global brand brand you hit the nail on the head we just announced um not not even a week ago we're doing wrestlemania yeah yeah exactly we're going to riad in 2027 so that'll be our first uh yeah it's an it's amazing we've had a partnership with the athletic commission there in saudi for the last six years and this is a continuation of that but we've been holding these pay-per-views and premium live events internationally now uh really heavy for the last few years and it's really incredible to see the response like i said we were just in paris We've done Scotland and England.

15:48I think we're going back to Italy next year to do a premium live event. We're heading down to Perth, Australia to do another big event here in October. I mean, WWE is absolutely a global brand. Anywhere we go on the planet, we are some of the most recognizable athletes because we're on TV as well with this, you know, right here. We ain't got the helmet, you know what I mean? Yeah, exactly. No face masks. It's right here all the time, you know. This is where you make your money. So, yeah, we are a special breed, man. And we do it, like I said, 365 year round. Rick ain't lying. When he says you're on the road 300 days a year, you are traveling, man.

16:26My sky miles are through the roof, you know?

16:28Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, yeah, hey, hey. When you and the missus go on vacation, hey, you're like, hey, everything's paid for. The hotel is taken care of. The flight is taken care of. We got enough points. We can go eat anywhere we want to, baby. So, hey, let your hair down. You know it. You know it. so so seth let me ask you this when it comes time and uh the script is written and uh that thing that's across your shoulders is gonna have to change hands how difficult is it for you to like can i keep it another week can i keep it another month you know uh i love being a champ right that's that's the that's the goal of the business it's one of those things where you know it's not like a super bowl trophy where you know it's a competitive athletic output that gets you to that point.

17:13It's one of those things where when, but when you have this, you are the top guy, you are, you are given the ball. This is your chance to run. It is your industry. And so when you have that title, you take pride in it. And when you get into the business, this is what you want. This is what you work for. This is what you put in the long hours for the late night workouts, the long drives, all the injuries, everything. This is what you work for. So it's a little bittersweet because on the opposite end of that, there's no better feeling than giving your dance partner an incredible moment. So as many world championships as I've been on this end of, I've given five of them away, right?

17:54This is my sixth one. So I've given five of them away. And every single time it's been an incredible experience for me to give somebody else who's also put in that work, that moment to see how they can carry the ball. So it's in some ways, it's the ultimate team sports.

18:10Shannon Sharpe:Is there a certain number of years that you have to wrestle before you get an opportunity to fight for that? No, man, not at all. It's, it's one of those things where, you know, if you, if you're getting over, as they say in our business, if the people love you, if you're entertaining and the company feels like you can carry the flag, they'll give it to you, you know, they'll give you the ball. And there's a lot, a lot that goes into making that decision. But at the end, at the end of the day, man, it's, it's, you know, longevity and tenure and reliability is part of it. But hey, if you're hot and you're on fire and it feels like you can make a lot of money, it's a business.

18:43You're going to get that ball. You better run with it. Hey, you know what I'm thinking about? As busy as your guys' schedule is, as much as you guys are on the road, obviously having a wife and kid, how do you find time to do other things that you might be passionate about outside of wrestling? Or do you even have time to do that? What are some of the things that you enjoy outside of wrestling with the limited time that you do have to enjoy those things well boys a couple of things that i love one of them is football i love football it's my second passion man so this is a great segue for mojo senko right there for me to tell you that you know i've joined uh the team at the nfl network good morning football for the season and uh it's something that i've just always wanted to do to sit down and talk about football right and so i i am i've been just i feel i feel like i'm one of the people that if you want to make time for something in life you will make time for it you know and i'm not like a sleep when you're dead dude but like you know what i mean like it's one of those things if you want to do something you will make time for you'll figure out how to make it work so i got passions in football so i'm excited to join that that squad uh with kyle brant and those guys for the season talk about how awful my bears are all year long.

20:00And then on the other side of that, I really love coffee. So I've invested a lot of my time and money in a couple coffee shops that I have in Iowa. We've recently, my wife and I have invested in a coffee shop in Los Angeles called Dayglo. They got a few locations, Chicago, L.A., New York. And so coffee, football, wrestling, that's kind of my jam, man.

20:21Shannon Sharpe:I like it. Well, that's enough to keep you busy. because you're on the road 200 plus days a year. Now you got the morning show on NFL Network. That's, you know, until the football season. I'm assuming you're going to be on there until football season's over. Yes, sir. Yeah, I'm there through the Super Bowl. And you got your businesses outside and you got almost a five-year-old. So you got a lot on your plate, Seth. Yeah, we're doing it, man. But, hey, it's cliche, but you only live once, man. You know, get out there and make the best of it. So I feel like I'm a fortunate man to be able to get the opportunity to do all these things, to be a dad, to be a husband, to have a loving family and to be able to pursue all these adventures and just, you know, see, see where the chips fall.

21:03You know, I'm very lucky to be able to do that.

21:06Shannon Sharpe:Well, you know, Seth, they say you only live once. And if you do it right, that's plenty. Yes, sir. That's true. Ain't that the truth? Thanks for coming on with us. Congratulations on all your success. Stay healthy. hey and uh come back and join us sometime dude i'd love to thank you boys for having me on it's always great chatting with you i appreciate it wrestlepalooza this saturday get after it on espn yes sir thank you appreciate it thank you self enjoy see you boys man that was dope man yeah man we didn't have somebody uh so i'm trying to think who we haven't hat on yet. I mean, I guess we got to get Roman Reigns.

21:45Shannon Sharpe:We got to get Cody Rose. Hey, what you think about me and Seth wrestling? You don't know nothing about wrestling. Who don't? You. As athletic as I am, I think that would be awesome. You think so, huh? Yeah. Pick him up, power driving. Quiet confidence. It's not what you see. It's what you feel. a suit tailored just for you a perfectly timed guy's trip choosing on plus nicotine pouches over rough corners and edges because some things may look better but the other things simply feel better on plus nicotine pouches with nikko silk mesh the softest pouch on the planet not all varieties available in all geographies warning this product contains nicotine nicotine is an addictive chemical.

The declaration, which is full of these beautifully rendered, you know, sentences and paragraphs about enlightenment ideals, does also have this darker history to it. The Eagles got away with a false start in the tush push Sunday against the Chiefs, and the league office is trying to make sure that doesn't happen again. The league training video for officials, which also got shared with coaches and general managers, included video showing the Eagles false starting and the instruction that the officials ensure the offense isn't getting away with penalties on the tush push.

Read the full transcript

25:45Shannon Sharpe:The training video made clear that the Eagles' push push should have never been blown dead before the snap, should have been blown dead before the snap, and the Eagles should have been backed up five yards. You can see the right guard moves early. You've got a defender that's trying to punch the ball out, but more so, we have a false start coming from the right guard. We want to make sure we officiate these tight and make sure that every aspect of the offensive team is legal in any movement. and that's that's not correct we want to shut it down as a false start false start would be proper call here yeah the funny thing about it is not only does the right guard do it the left guard does it too the timing of when they do it i'm not sure if anybody hits uh jaylen must say something and when he says it they just take off before the ball is snapped yeah left guard the right guard do it every single time and the ref misses it so now that it's been causing their attention now they They have to pause a second, wait for the snap, and then go.

26:48Shannon Sharpe:Well, because it's the same thing when those guards, those tackles was leaving the count, was jumping the count on offense. The NFL sent the training tape and said, no, this is a false start. They're jumping the count. Can I tell you something? Yeah, go ahead. Even with the referees paying attention to this, and the two guards, the left and the right guard, and having to wait a millisecond until the ball is snapped, they still ain't going to stop the tush push. I'm just being honest. They still ain't going to stop it. You know, even with the complaining and sending video and having GMs and referees look at it, they still not going to stop it.

27:28You know, you can't unless you have a defensive line that is equivalent to that of the Eagles. Yeah.

27:39Shannon Sharpe:Ocho, the Eagles are 2-0, but their offense has been less than impressive. They ranked 29th in total offense, 31st in passing, and Jalen Hurts' 5.62 yards per attempt is 24th. Hurts said, I take a lot of accountability for a lot of it and just how we go out there because that's my job. My job is to go out there and be the general, orchestrate everything and ultimately make plays. Hurts called expectations for defending the Super Bowl championship fair. The Eagles have only two pass plays of more than 15 yards. Johan Dawson caught a 51-yard pass in week one against Dallas. Devontae Smith, a 28-yard against the Chiefs week two.

28:17Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, it's expectations. I mean, and the thing is, Jalen's going to continue to play like this unless you can force him to throw the football and keep them out of second and short, third and short, or fourth and short. Because right now they're still playing on their terms. Go ahead. And we talked about that earlier. We talked about it earlier, too. in order for them to have to not play on their terms, they have to be behind. They got to be behind. We're going to run the ball first, and whatever we do defensively, we're going to take what you give us. We're not forcing no throws because we don't have to.

28:52Correct. That's not what they asked Jalen Hurst to do.

28:56Shannon Sharpe:They're not. He's not dropping back throwing the ball 50 times, 40 times a game. That's not what they do. And that formula works for them. That's why they got to ring in the goddamn trophy. So if you look at the stats statistically, would you say they rank 29th? They rank 29th in total offense, and they rank 31st in passing. It's only 31. It's only 32 teams in the NFL. Okay, there you go. There it is. Hey, but guess what? They 2-0. 2-0. They're doing this working until they come across somebody that forces them to do what the Kansas City Chiefs forced them to do in the Super Bowl. 26 is not beating us that's what Spagnoli said 26 is not beating us we put 9 in the box we're going to see a Jalen Hurst can throw and what did Jalen Hurst do?

29:47Shannon Sharpe:threw when he had he made plays got outside made plays with his legs and he made plays for the ball down the field so that lets you know he can do both when necessary not because we want to see it not because the media or the analysts or the people that are saying, oh, Jalen Hurst is not top five, he's winning football games. That's what we play. We play to win the game, like Herm Edwards says. You're absolutely right, Ocho. You're absolutely right. And like you said, right now, but I think they realize – because, see, the biggest mistake that you can make is to think you can win this year just how you won last year.

30:29Shannon Sharpe:Everybody's evolved. Everybody looks at you and they break you down, and when you win the championship, Ocho, everybody really breaks you down. And so you have to evolve. You have to get better. And there are certain little spine areas that you can improve in. And I'm not saying that you have to get, you know, all of a sudden, whatever we ranked last year, you got to be the number five passing team. No, that's not what they got to be. No, absolutely not. But they know being 29th in offense and 31st in passing, they're going to get it done. I got one for you. What you got for me? I could tell you some teams that the Eagles are going to play where you're going to have to put that ball in the air.

31:08Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. When you play the Packers, you're going to have to put that ball in the air. Well, you might want to run it on the Packers, but you don't want to subject yourself to that rush because they're coming. Hold on. When you play the Lions, that didn't put up 52, you're going to have to put that ball in the air. Yeah. Like there's some teams that can score in high volume. You're going to have to match them. You're going to have to match them. You're going to have no choice. Yeah. but it ain't too big it's not Ocho and you can't expect because even when we had the 2000 Ravens you know there was a game that we got into a shootout with the Jags there was a game late in the season that we end up having to score 30 plus points against the Jets and for the most part we could be pedestrian we could average 20 points 17 points and win a game but there was a couple of games that we needed to score 39 that we needed to score in you know mid 30s and so that's what's going to happen But yeah, your defense is really good.

32:00Shannon Sharpe:Now, you know, Carter needs to get in some shape because he's out of shape because, boy, he was huffing and puffing the other day. So he's going to have to get better condition. But there are going to be some times, Ocho, you're going to have to put up 30. That's just the way the league is. Yeah, most definitely. Most definitely. And sometimes it comes from an opponent. Sometimes it's an opponent that you least expect. You're absolutely right. Yep. It always happens like that. It does. It does. You end up getting to like, oh, and it's a team that you're like, man, we got these boys. And next thing you know, they done jumped out on your 14-0 or 14-3.

32:37Shannon Sharpe:And then now you catch up, but they done got into a rhythm and you're going back and forth. And you probably need to make a play late in the ballgame to win. But yeah, I just think the thing is the Eagles understand. They know you're not going to win. Nobody wins the Super Bowl the same way they won it the previous year. That's why it's so hard to repeat. That's why. Because, you know, a lot of times, you know, man, when we have success doing this, it's kind of like, you know, investing, Ocho. Well, you buy the same stock, but you got to diversify your portfolio. And in order for the Eagles to get back to where they want to be, which is top of the mountain, they're going to have to diversify.

33:14Shannon Sharpe:They're going to have to get better at throwing the football. It just feels what it is. 31st, they're going to get it done. 31st is not going to get it done. And the 31st and pass. I'm trying to think who the hell who the hell worse than that Carolina I hope it's not the Panthers not the way I've been talking about them before the season started but you've been talking about the Bears too and all both of them pond water

33:43Shannon Sharpe:all both of them they got to do better than this but I think you know I think Coach Sirianni is sitting there telling them and the OC is like look our time is going to come. Let's just make sure we protect the football. We don't put the ball in harm's way. Long, we don't put the ball in harm's way. That's the problem. They're doing a great job of protecting the ball and they take it away. Now, you have this type of 29th offense and 31st and pass, and you turn it over, you can get your eyes beat out. Oh, yeah, absolutely. Because you're going to put your defense on a short field or you're going to have them out there and you're going to wear them down.

34:18Shannon Sharpe:So right now, they can possess the ball, Ocho. They're going to pick up two or three first downs, Saquon, going to have a pop one for 10-12. They'll get the tush-push for another one. They'll hit A.J. or Devontae. And so they'll possess the ball. But when you turn it over and you put up these kind of numbers, that's the quickest way to get your beat. So I'm sure that this is something that, look, they know. And A.J. Brown said, yeah, I sure hope we get the thing fixed sooner rather than later. Y 'all got me out there just getting cardio in. Hey, I know how you feel. I know how you feel. He got that C on his chest.

34:53He really can't say what he want to say. Yeah, I agree. I know how you feel, boy. Hold tight. Like I told Tyreek, hold tight. It's going to get better.

35:04Shannon Sharpe:AJ, you said, hold on to God's unchanging hand.

35:10Shannon Sharpe:It's tough. It is. It really is. Because you're out there working your tail off. And, oh, yeah, we're going to get it to you this week. And, you know, they tell you all the stuff that you want to hear. Like, yeah. Hey, Ocho, you look at that game play. like, okay, I like this. And then you get that first 15. And first 15, I'm like, well, let's see. One, two, three. For sure. Two of the possible. I'm looking like I got a spade hand. I got three of the possible. And the first 15, I got three of the possible.

35:38Shannon Sharpe:Man, I should have known. I shouldn't have got my damn hopes up. There's some booze. Damn. Excuse me. Yeah, for sure. Absolutely. I think all of us remember those days. If you play receivers, if you've been the number one guy, yeah, there have been some days that you're like, man, this is some bull jive out here today. Well, we go into games. We'll be playing the Steelers. And they put that goddamn Ike Taylor there. They'll put Ike Taylor in press. And they shade Ryan Clark all the way over on the hash. then Troy Polamalu Troy Polamalu crazy ass be playing around in the A gap bouncing from the A to the B and then at the snap of the ball here shoot oh man I tell you to be frustrated and Dick LeBeau was running all type of exotic stuff I'm like man what the hell is y 'all doing man Ocho they be out there talking about hey 84 what it look like look like I ain't caught no damn pass yet that's what it look like to me I don't know what it look like to you

36:46Shannon Sharpe:I don't know. From where I'm standing, I mean, hey. Hey. What it look like. Y 'all know what it look like. Y 'all see. Boy, there was some days, boy. I used to have to hold it together, boy. Oh, yeah, for sure. For sure. I used to end up seething, though. Tony, me wrong. Tony, me wrong. Goddamn one thing. Ocho man I was a great because I do it all that all day long hey boy listen it's one thing I hate it's one thing I hate is to put in all that work during the week they done sold me a dream got me all gassed up Ocho I'm like yeah yeah I said yeah I got these boys this week Ocho yeah I put that work in this week man please man don't do that don't you man they caught a genie thing

37:47Shannon Sharpe:hey that was hey you know hey that's on us we gotta get you to rock hey boy it ain't gonna be too many more times it's gonna be on you though oh man I remember them days quiet confidence it's not what you see it's what you feel a suit tailored just for you a perfectly timed guys trip choosing On Plus nicotine pouches over rough corners and edges because some things may look better but the other things simply feel better On Plus nicotine pouches with Nico Silk Mesh the softest pouch on the planet not all varieties available in all geographies warning this product contains nicotine nicotine is an addictive chemical there's nothing like the American Express Platinum Card find out your welcome offer after you apply, which could be as high as 175 ,000 points.

41:18Shannon Sharpe:Ocho, Patrick Mahomes spoke about being winless two weeks into the season. Obviously being on two, there's no more urgency than even last week. and I feel like we were very urgent last week. Definitely new territory as far as being on too, but knowing that we got guys for it, we have the mindset of going out there and getting and being even better. In my eyes, it looks like an opportunity. What's an opportunity to prove who we are? The Kansas City Chiefs coming back from O2 and trying to build up on a big football game on Sunday Night Football and try to get our season going in the right direction from there.

41:51Shannon Sharpe:Ocho, they're on the road Sunday Night Football playing the New York Football Giants. are they going to be 0-3 or will they be 1-2 I don't know because the Giants look good they look good Cowboys last week they look very good obviously not winning after going into overtime because of some unfortunate circumstances before the game ended yeah you got to deal with Abdul Carter you got to deal with Kayvon Thibodeau you got to deal with that monster in the middle Big Lawrence I don't know The receiver's going to have to show up. The running game is going to have to take some of the pressure off of Patrick Mahomes so he doesn't have to play Superman.

42:33You mean the walking game? Pacheco, you got to get going. Kareem Hunt, you got to get going. So Patrick Mahomes doesn't press. When he presses, he's making mistakes. There's no reason Patrick Mahomes, yes, he's a dual threat, but he shouldn't be leading the team in yards. That's a rushing yard. That shouldn't be happening. the receivers the supporting cast y 'all got to step up y 'all got to step up Travis Kelsey Hall of Famer Juju come on man now the time next man up all that Rasheed Rice in here we don't matter next man up Hollywood come on boy you from the career baby you know what to do your name Hollywood for a reason every time you step on the field boy it's supposed to be a show

43:27Shannon Sharpe:oh I thought they took down I forgot that was the LAX sign they took down they left the Hollywood sign up oh yeah Hollywood I know you're gonna see this boy it's gonna be a show every time you step on that grass boy you got to represent that name get a show you gotta put something on tape man because you signed the one you did bro this ain't about Kansas City this about somebody else looks at man We got to have him. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's what it's about, Ocho. Every week is your resume, huh? Yes, yes. Are you filling out your application every week? Yep, update it. Got to update that resume.

44:04Yeah.

44:05Shannon Sharpe:Ocho, Clayton Kershaw announced today his legendary career is coming to a close. He's retiring after the season with his final regular season start coming Friday, coming on Friday against the San Francisco Giants. he's had quite a career and will assuredly be at the first ballot hall of famer he won an mvp three side young he's 11 time all-star a gold glove two world series title and he won the triple crown had most wins in the season most strikeouts in the season and the best era in the national league clayton kershaw is calling it a career and what a career it's been hey he's nice he's nice i like kershaw you know I think he went to the same school as Matthew Stafford They went to high school together For real?

44:52Yeah Listen, Clayton Kershaw is one of the best pitchers of all time I was in the bullpen with him one time Helping him with his form Helping him with his technique Obviously his best pitch is the curveball I taught him My curveball is It's just my pinky And my thumb Just my pinky and my thumb He didn't really like that because his hands were a little bigger than mine but he has the best curveball in the game. They call it Uncle Charlie. I don't know if you knew that. Did you know that? Mm-hmm. Okay. Yeah. Hey, unbelievable. That ball be here, boom, by the time it gets to the plate. Mm-hmm. Yeah.

45:29So, you know, me and Kershaw. 12 to 6. 12 to 6, huh? Huh? 12 to 6, huh? Yeah. Hey, he can go from 12 to 6 to 12 to 4 or 12 to 7. He can make it go wherever he want to. He got another pitch called the UFO.

45:44Shannon Sharpe:Mm-hmm. Yeah, it go like this. That what he do? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Kershaw nice now. That's my dog. Yeah. Me and Kershaw go way back, bud. Okay. Clayton Kershaw is calling it a career. And what a career it's been. The Fever win their very first playoff series in 10 years to reach the WNBA semis. Aaliyah Boston made a go-ahead layup with 7.4 seconds. Lexi Hall stole the ensuing inbound pass. And the Indiana Fever beat the number three seed Atlanta Dream 87-85. Tonight to advance to the WNBA semifinals. Despite missing Kaitlyn Clark, Indiana closed on a 7-0 run to win a playoff series for the first time since 2015.

46:29Shannon Sharpe:The six-seeded Fever will play on Sunday against the number two seed Las Vegas Aces. Asia Wilson, co-defensive player of the year, won her third defensive player of the year. and it's going to be her, Nafisha Collier, Fee, who we had on the show, is going to be MVP. And if Asia wins, she'll be a four-time league MVP. Now, I think there have been a couple of three-time, Cheryl Swoops is a three-time MVP. Lauren Jackson, the Australian, is a three-time MVP. I think Lisa Leslie, I think. But Asia, she has a chance to be the greatest woman's player ever. When it's all said and done, I think she's only 29 years of age.

47:15Shannon Sharpe:She has four MVPs. She has three defensive players of the year. She's been a WNBA, all-NBA selection. I mean, a finals MVP. Sky's living. She ain't going nowhere. No. She led the league in scoring again. She's second in rebounding. She's first in block shots. She's top five. I think she's top five in steals. She's the best player. Hands down, she's the best player. Now, I'm not saying she might have not had the best seat. Well, I mean, you base it on what she did last year. She compelled. I mean, she averaged 26 points a game. But she's the best player. She's the best player in the WNBA. There's nothing.

47:54Shannon Sharpe:There's nothing she can't do. Can't do. She can score. She can rebound. She can defend. Offensive rebound. Defensive rebound. Block shots. Steal the ball. She is amazing. She's the best player, and she should win MVP number four. I think in the fourth quarter, I saw she had like 27 points. I don't know what she ended up with. But you know what? Damn, I can't watch. I'm going to be on the road. I might catch a game. I might catch a game. I might catch a game. Hey, you boy. You boy might be outside again. Hold on. I asked you to go outside. You told me nobody. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Whoa. How about? Whoa.

48:34hey i asked you to go fishing i asked you to go see rat pack i asked you to go see the frank sinatra show but you told me no about everything but you're gonna go to a game i want to see asia

48:46Shannon Sharpe:i want to see chelsea gray do with that thing jackie young all right get get two tickets then i'm coming to you know what i'll show them they just told them say they have one they have number single who uh the uh the uh the aces okay don't worry about it i'm gonna go to ticket master wherever you sit and i'm gonna get my ticket next to you

49:14i sure hope they play if they play sunday day hold on what is is it two out of three is it two out of three or is it

49:23Shannon Sharpe:three out of five Ash because

49:31Shannon Sharpe:because I know the first round was two out of three and it goes home away home so we got to see how this thing how this thing plays out we got something for them but congratulations to the fever

49:51Shannon Sharpe:okay wow

49:56Shannon Sharpe:five seven is that best that best of seven is something new they just added that didn't they for this year because i figured last year was three out of it was it was uh three out of five well three out of five yeah yeah because the liberty because if i'm not mistaken the liberty beat the Lynx, but that was a foul. They shouldn't have called that foul. That was some bull jive. That was a bull jive. Last year, Minnesota, the Lynx, they should have won. Which game are you going to? Man, I'm not going to be... Oh, so much. Well, whatever game... The first two games will be at home for the Aces, so they'll probably play...

50:38Shannon Sharpe:Hopefully, they play Sunday, Tuesday. Okay, so you want to go Sunday, you want to go Tuesday? I can fly back. I can't go Sunday. I can't go Sunday. Okay, Tuesday. Ocho we got to see when the games are man You just said Sunday and Tuesday I said I said I think it I don't know I know the game is Sunday the very first game is Sunday I don't know what the second game is Okay well let me know let me know Ain't nothing but a little hop and a skip Spirit go straight there 4 out of 30 minute flight $100 Yeah I thought so Here it is Ocho Now it's time for our final segment of the evening It's time for Q Hold on, I got to do 50 push-ups.

51:19I cursed.

51:27Shannon Sharpe:Patrick Rendon. People didn't like how strict Flores was as a coach, and people don't like how loose Mike McDaniel is as a coach. I'm convinced the Dolphins organization will be dysfunctional for a long time. Well, that's normally what happens. When people think you go too far to the right, they normally go too far to the left, and now they're going to probably try to find somebody that's smack dab in the middle.

51:51Shannon Sharpe:I just think that showing up late to practice and all that stuff, you got to nip that stuff in the bud. You got to dip it in the bud, Ocho. Yeah, you do. Mike McDaniel didn't, and it became a problem. It's kind of like anything, Ocho. You try to get it under control before it becomes a problem. You get a cold, you try to get on top of it before it becomes a fluke. Right.

52:25Shannon Sharpe:And it got out of control and he couldn't control it. And once they tune you out, that's why I was surprised that he was, you know, considering how, you know, because they started out fairly good and then they just dropped off a cliff. Remember the previous year, Ocho, they went to the playoffs. They lost all those games and ended up losing home field, and they ended up having to go on the road to Kansas City the first game. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Hey, Brian Flores, he didn't want to, huh? No, he wanted Justin Herbert. Shit.

53:04Shannon Sharpe:He wanted Justin Herbert. Seems like the right call, too. Can you imagine Herbert with Waddle and Tuiq? Tyreek? Oh, my.

53:18Shannon Sharpe:With Reek and, excuse me, Waddle? Yeah. No, he didn't. He wanted, but, you know, with ownership.

53:29Shannon Sharpe:Because you know you got a good quarterback. You're tied to him, and you can have a job for a long time. Andy Reid, he's going to have a job as long as he wants to stay in Kansas City. Coach Belichick has a 20-plus year career in New England. Tony Dungy walked away, gave Jim Caldwell an opportunity. Jim Caldwell would have been there for a long time had Peyton not got hurt. Peyton, Sean Peyton, and Drew, Drew Brees. Coach Cower had a Big Ben turned him over to Mike Tomlin Mike Tomlin you get one of those guys you get tied to him for a long time it's McDaniel he's too soft on the players don't respect him they need a coach that can motivate them to play hard they need you Ocho hell no

54:28oh they they they do see you know what the player they'll respect me though they're gonna respect you oh they're gonna respect me even though i'm i'm easy to get along with i mean but when it's when it's time to play ball oh well y 'all ain't finna embarrass me you ain't finna play up with my name absolutely not you know i'm fun making jokes he he ha ha oh no but when that whistle blows?

54:53Shannon Sharpe:It's time to go. Oh, it's time to go. Artificial Hips, LLC. Imagine Trick Daddy as Dolphins head coach. Gotta have a play called Thug Holiday. Something like a Hail Mary. Hey, Trick would be cussing everybody's ass out, man. I can see, I can imagine Trick Daddy in the presser. That wouldn't work. That would be funny as hell. Quentin May says, As soon as I turned in, I see Ocho. Tyler Hamilton said, Ocho, your nephew played with my cousin at Marshall. At Marshall, Marshall, Marshall.

55:37Shannon Sharpe:The underscore daddy is underscore. Dad said, if the ball is caught behind the line, can they still call the nudge of a player downfield? I think you talked about the offensive lineman for the Dolphins. That was 20 yards down the field. You can't be that far down. Left guard, man. He tripping, man. Everybody got to call with him. Damn. And then the play was going the opposite way. Yeah. Blaine Jaspari, Herbert, MVP season. He looked good. But that guy that's up there in Buffalo ain't playing too bad either. James Johnson said, Unc, if you played at Georgia Bulldogs and Ocho played at the U, whose team would win?

56:19Shannon Sharpe:Depending on which win. Y 'all know Ocho and I didn't overlap. You know, what you mean? We played at the same time. It don't matter. If I went to the U, we would have won. Hell, my Oregon State team would have beat your team. First of all, Ocho, you was in elementary school. Who? When I was in college. God damn, aren't you old? Shit. I am.

56:51Shannon Sharpe:I'm GLM for real. I guess that means I'm, I don't know what that means. Hey, Uncle Ocho, love y 'all. Love you. Thanks for watching. Thanks for supporting. Timothy Daniels says, Chad, that's a good mentality to have. You may know, but beat me. However, if I know what you're going to do, I'm going to make it harder for you to beat me. No, you're not. No, you're not. The game of football is a team game. 11 players with individual jobs at each position. All you have to do is win your individual job. Speaking, talking, hey, this is what they're going to do. It doesn't matter once you're on the field.

57:34But y 'all, I wish y 'all true. Maybe it's my mentality. I don't know maybe I'm tripping I don't get it all that micromanaging who's in the booth who's saying this he knows this they know the play I don't give a you know what man you finna get this work what period

57:57Shannon Sharpe:Wolf hat facts Ojo can I hire you as a style coach oh yeah I do I do be flat now that's one thing about it you know I'm an H &M target Zara type dude every so often I cut a rug a little bit but if you can get fly for the low it's not about what you buy it's how you put it together I don't know I sure wish I could put $5 ,900 together and go get me something I told you I told you you can get your money all you gotta do is go see the Rat Pack show at Tuscany. How you put stipulations on how I get my money back? Because I want you to have a good time. I want you to do this stuff. You're not living, huh?

58:44Shannon Sharpe:You're alive, but you're not living. Chad, y 'all heard this man. This man said, I'll pay you the money I owe you if... Listen. Listen. I want you to have a good time. I want you to live life. You're not living life Let me get my 50-900 and I can live again. You're going to live as soon as you go to that show. As soon as you come on Nightcap and be like, Ocho, I went and seen the show and then showed me evidence that you went. Ocho, I went on the show. Good show, Ocho. Fly me to the moon. What was the lead singer name? Frank Sinatra.

59:30Shannon Sharpe:Hey, Rodney Dinkins said, oh, can you send my birthday to send a birthday shout out to my mom and my sister. Their birthdays are this weekend. Absolutely. Dink, happy birthday. Andrea and your mom. Happy birthday. Glennville. We in the house. Appreciate that, Dink. Appreciate the support. Every time I'm up in Atlanta, you come through. Support me with Shade by LaPortier. Always hopping on in the chat. I appreciate that, homeboy. The iPhone 17 come out tomorrow. You going to get one? Nah, hell nah. Okay. Hell, I just paid off the 16. You hear? No, you was on the payment plan? I sure was. I ain't got bread like that.

1:00:14Shannon Sharpe:Ask y 'all if Ocho wrestles Seth Rollins. Seth's going to put a cartoon-sized bump on your head. Hey, I can wrestle, man. Don't do that. Don't do that. You know, I was a state champ in 68. Don't play at me like that. JJ said, oh, if Ocho ain't paid your money yet, I'll go jump on it for you. I ain't got nothing but an all-away for you. When you think about coming to jump on me, just know these things right here gonna be around your neck, boy. You hear me? What is a game over here, man? I just want my money, Ochoa, that's all. Huh? You want some of this? Do you want some of this? No, I want 5900.

1:00:55I'm talking about whoever that is.

1:00:57Shannon Sharpe:Oh, okay, I just want 5900, Chad. That's all I want. I got you. I'm telling you, boy. As long as I owe you, boy, you ain't never going broke. Boy, you hear me? My Ocho gonna pay me my money, y 'all. I got you, y 'all. Hey, you my ace, boom, cool. I sure can use that little piece of money. Yeah, I got you. I got you. I appreciate it. I appreciate it. 1:02:09Shannon Sharpe:That link is also pinned in the chat. The Buffalo Bills run their record to 3-0 thanks to a 31-21 victory over the division rival, Miami Dolphins, who fall to 0-3. Two big mistakes late in the ballgame, gave up a touchdown and to a throw a costly interception, and the Buffalo Bills were able to run out the clock. They're 3-0 with 10 days off before their next game. Miami Dolphins are 0-3. Just soak. And that report became... You gotta believe. You gotta believe. I believe y 'all not gonna be good this year. That's what I believe. That's what I believe. Thank you guys for joining us. I'm Heath Ocho.

1:02:55Shannon Sharpe:We will see you on Saturday. Thanks for joining us, guys. Peace.
