In short
The hosts react to NFL/NBA headlines and debate team stability, player conduct, contracts, injuries, and fan behavior. They discuss: Cowboys and Bengals labeled “most unstable” franchises by surveyed agents; Stephon Diggs apologizing to Boston media after refusing to speak; Steelers DT Cam Heyward seeking to rework his deal; Devontae Adams offering Malachi Corley money for jersey No. 17; Christian McCaffrey’s calf/availability; Angel Reese suspended for criticizing teammates; and allegations involving Clippers owner Steve Ballmer and Kawhi Leonard’s “no-show” marketing deal.
Guests
None. The episode is hosted by “Unc” and “Ocho” (no guest names appear; Ghostface was planned but didn’t appear due to internet issues).
Key claims
Agents’ “instability” rankings are questioned given Bengals’ recent success and family ownership; Diggs’ apology is praised and media-silence is criticized; Cam Hayward likely won’t get another raise so soon after a recent extension; Reese’s comments were inappropriate and should have stayed internal; Ballmer’s situation “doesn’t look good” but likely won’t cost Kawhi.
Notable examples
Bengals/Cowboys survey; Diggs’ Boston media incident; Cam Heyward’s 2-year $29M extension; Reese’s eighth technical foul and first-half suspension vs. Las Vegas Aces (Sept. 7); Corley jersey negotiation (Adams reportedly offered $17,000); McCaffrey calf issue; undercover law enforcement at Seahawks games; Clippers/Kawhi alleged $28M no-show deal.

2:36Shannon Sharpe:Ocho, Stephon Diggs' decision not to speak to the Boston media rubbed local reporters the wrong way. with comments he was being in pain in the posterior New England. Diggs apologized for coming off rudely. Obviously, I don't want to come across as that, and I'm going to say this. I want to be very clear. I'm an adult. I'll apologize. I'm not up here on an ego trip. I'm not up here to rub anybody the wrong way or say anything for clickbait. If I rub anyone wrong, I really want to apologize. I like it. I do too. Hey, listen. New place, new atmosphere, new beginnings. Let's start it off on the right foot.
3:16Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. All you got to do now is go out there with your plate. The rest will take care of itself. Yep. The rest will take care of itself. Well, just do what you're supposed to. Just be who Stephon Diggs is. Make plays on the field. All that other stuff, I don't care. I don't care about it. I don't care about it, man. He was in the fashion. All he cared about is fashion. He didn't care. I don't care about none of that. Right. All I care, how many catches, how many yards, how many touchdowns, and how many games you will help us win. That's what I care about. All that other stuff, that ain't got nothing to do with me.
3:49Yeah.
3:50Shannon Sharpe:Congratulations, hey.
3:54Shannon Sharpe:Hey, bring her to the game. Maybe they'll put the camera on her. Yeah. I don't know. I don't care. But all I care about is winning. Can Stephon Diggs help me win? That's all I care about. all that other stuff i don't care nothing about that he can't he can't that's all i care about then okay oh yeah that's all i care about then well so uh um look you know he made a mistake they i i think the thing is what you're like i want to get off on a good foot anytime i go somewhere i mean look i i was always everybody that you know if you wanted something you wanted to talk I was going to talk yeah hell I'm gonna talk good bad or indifferent that's the thing and that it doesn't matter who the player is now when you when you play good you hit three home runs or you you score 50 points or you have a triple double or you have three sacks or you have this many everybody want to talk you give up you have a blunder or you don't play well now all of a sudden you want to leave the locker room without speaking to the media nah don't do that that's coward that's coward we don't do that you gotta you gotta speak to you gotta speak to him you got you got to have the corners to speak to him when you win and the corner is to speak to him when you lose be as gracious in victory as you are in defeat defeat yeah i'm a firm believer i'm a because i got a lot to say when we win well i'm hey as much as it's going to be hurting me inside i'm gonna stand and and take every question i'm not gonna be man you watch the game you saw what happened what you think happened you think you could did no no no no no no no no no no i i ain't asking when when we win the game and i go off i ain't asking did he watch the game i ain't say well could you have done what i did i don't ask none of them questions i'm not gonna ask it i'm not i'm not gonna ask when we lose we gotta play better team didn't play well it starts with me i i'm one of the leaders on the team i didn't do a good enough job of getting open i didn't give john a good enough target.
5:59Shannon Sharpe:We've got to block better. We've got to catch better. We've got to defend better. We've got to do a lot of things better as a team. But as one of the team leaders, I'll take it on me. That's what you're supposed to do. You want the credit. I mean, when they pat you on the back, they don't mention all them other guys in the paper when we win. They got Terrell Davis. They got John Elwood. They got Shannon Sharp. They got Rod Smith. They got Ed McCaffrey. They got Steve Atwater. Okay, those are the guys that they want to talk to when you don't play well. And GD, go up to the podium and stand up there with your chest out and speak.
6:38Shannon Sharpe:I've always been like that, don't you? In college, it didn't matter. Hey, you think I wanted to play bad? You think anybody wants to play bad? Of course not. But it's a part of it. You're not going to play good every game. I don't care. The greatest player, Tom Brady, as great as he was. Jerry Rice, as great as he was. Because LT, as great as they were, they didn't play great every game. And when you don't play, stand up there as if you got three sacks, if you threw for 400, as if you caught 450 in three touchdowns. That's just the way I approach it. But I am glad Stephon Diggs stepped to the mic and said, hey, guys, that's not my intent.
7:14Shannon Sharpe:I didn't come here to try to rub anybody the wrong way. And for my behavior, I want to apologize. Despite signing a two-year$29 million extension with the Steelers last year, Cam Hayward wants to rework his deal. Here's his explanation. You know how I work. You know how I play. That's all that matters. I have to make a decision for my family. This is a business. I cannot play this game forever. Just like I'm maximized on the field, I want to be maximized outside of it. I don't want to be taken care of that way. It's not being greedy. It's just the way this game is. It's not for long. NFL. So I would tell every guy, maximize your opportunities.
8:00Shannon Sharpe:Ocho, they just reworked this deal last year. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know if I can honestly say, Ocho, I don't know if I've ever seen a team rework a deal and then rework it the next year. I can honestly say in my 14 years and my years of being around it. Right. it's unfortunate I love Cam Hayward I love what he's done for the Steelers throughout his tenure being there but they're not working your deal over again a year later it's not happening it's just not happening as great as he is especially what he's done last year he's worthy of having another raise the following year after they just gave you a raise it's not it's not gonna work and and one thing you won't do and we've already seen it you're not gonna bully management you're not gonna bully owners into paying you and you're not and obviously this would if owners start they're not gonna set a precedent either they're not where we're gonna have players all they have to do is come out and complain about not being paid and all of a sudden they do they just gonna start paying players because they say they're not happy with their deal.
9:16That's not happening. The owners are not going to set a precedent. And I know damn well the Roonies ain't going to be the one to set it.
9:23Shannon Sharpe:No. And that's the problem that he's up against. What has happened, Ocho, is that he's seen these defensive linemen's salaries explode. Yeah. 47 million, 41 million, 40 million, 35, 35, 34, 30, 28. You're like, man, I'm making a piece of a little 14 mil. Yeah, you know who can. And Chad, look, I'm not saying that$14 million is a lot of money. But I'm looking at it through his lens. In his lens, he's looking at like$14 million is not a lot of money when I probably did. Where is he ranked? He's like what? He's the 23rd highest paid defensive lineman? 23rd. Where would you put him? Where would you put him when it comes to D tackles?
10:13where would you put him is he is he in the chris jones jeffrey simmons type
10:19Shannon Sharpe:he's more of a run stuffer now he can get you sacks right um um i think he's probably that tier like i would say cj and simmons carter tier two yeah okay Okay. But here's the thing, Ocho. If you like, you know what? I'm going to go out here and I'm going to play this. Don't rework my deal. Don't worry about it. I'm going to bet on me. I'm going to go out here and ball out. You don't get to take. He's trying to take the money, the assurances that he had on the front end when they reworked the deal, says, well, I'll perform this deal and now let's come back to the table. Like I said, they could now.
11:07Shannon Sharpe:Like I said, I know the Roonies. You know, you grow up, Steve was my favorite team. I knew the dad.
11:16Shannon Sharpe:Dan, who used to be the ambassador to Ireland, if I'm not mistaken, when I went into the hall, sent me a handwritten note. Really appreciate it. So the Rooney family, thank you very much for that.
11:28Shannon Sharpe:And here's the thing, Ocho. He signed an extension, and he played 11 games the previous year. So he signed the extension after he was injured. Yeah They gave me some grace understanding. So so in other words, oh, it's like He hedged it So I what I would do I'm gonna protect my downside So I'm gonna protect you know, if y 'all want to release me, I'm gonna get this money now Well, I outperform so let's do it over. Yeah, I don't believe I don't believe chatting to y 'all I could be wrong No, it's not happening. Oh, can I ask you a question? How old is Cam Hayward? Cam came out in the 2011 draft, so he's got to be at least 35.
12:12Shannon Sharpe:He might be 36. Huh. Them folks ain't playing that, man. You know what? He's got to be 36, 35, 36. You know, there are certain players that have that kind of pull, and there's one player on the Steelers' defense that can say, you know what? I played well last year. I would like a raise this year as well. There's one player that can do that. He did it. He got it, TJ. There's one player that can do that. So in other words, he looked at Ocho, he's like, man, look, I bounced back. I was an all pro. I had like seven, eight sacks. I batted a couple of passes, tackled for losses. Bro, but they're like, we gave you a raise after you had a down year.
12:58Shannon Sharpe:Now you want us to come back and give you another raise after having a good year? I think, you know what? what they might do is they might take some money on the back end and go ahead and push it on up front. I don't know if he got, does he have any more on the back end? Because if I get signed a two-year extension, does he have any?
13:22Shannon Sharpe:Does he have any more protection?
13:29Shannon Sharpe:I mean, what was last year? Last year was...
13:42Shannon Sharpe:my thing is bro why you sign a two-year extension for 29 million anyway that's only 14 and a half the numbers were already way up that put you way behind to begin with yeah so i can see if you said let's just say for the sake of argument ocho he signed a two-year deal and he got$42 million. He got$45 million. Now I'm like, okay, but you signed a two-year deal. You basically took$14 million. They were obliged to give it to you. They would happen like, oh, okay. We'll keep him happy. I don't know. I mean, I think Cam is a really good player, but I just don't see a scenario where they gave him an extension last year and turn around and give him another extension this year.
14:27Shannon Sharpe:I just don't see it on show. It could happen. I hope it does. I hope it does. But I'm just being real. I'm trying to be realistic to our viewing and listening audience. I just don't see it happening. Yeah.
14:40Shannon Sharpe:No. Because I do think he's a phenomenal player. He's a leader of that team. He's a captain of the defense. I think even still at his age, he's still a phenomenal player at 36 years of age. All those wars. Because you know when you play, they play a 3-4 defense. You know he's in a lot of battles. There's a lot of banging. Pause. Truly. There's a lot of pushing and pulling, like you like to say, pushing, pulling, tugging. Helmets colliding. It's rough in there. Yeah. It's rough in there. But I just – I wonder who his agent is because his agent worked that two for 28. Nah, we'll do two for 50. Do two for 50, Ocho.
15:31Shannon Sharpe:Now we good. Yeah. Damn. Does he have another year on this contract after this year, Ash? Yeah, he can. Wow. So how much is next year's salary?
15:48Oh, yeah.
15:50Shannon Sharpe:He's sick. He throwing up. It's bad? No, I'm just saying don't show you look at everybody else. I mean he's 14 5 Hey Michael Parson just got 47 million That's three times what he made Three and a half. Yeah That's crazy Yeah Look at TJ the guy he played right next to 41. Oh, yes two and a half
16:24Shannon Sharpe:no damn near three times who my math teacher
16:31Shannon Sharpe:so he's looking at like hold on bro i'm putting in work now i i wish him i i i wish him the best but i just don't i just don't see that scenario i really don't yeah i don't want to steal up that contract after just giving him one appeasing him last year after the season in which he was down. That's where if you felt you was like that, just go ahead and ride it out. Yeah, especially also not saying not the ultimatum. I'm not playing. Plus you're 36, bro. Yeah, but, you know, some people will say, well, he's not your average 36-year-old.
17:12Shannon Sharpe:Steelers ain't the average team. They don't just have money like that. the Steelers are one of these old school they're mom and pops this is what the Steelers do it's been in their family basically since 1933 with the exception of a year this is what they got they don't have all this other ventures venture capitalists and stuff like that that's not what they have I mean you saw the other day that the Giants sold a 10 % stake into the Giants to the Koch family the Koch Koch it's pronounced Koch but it's spelled K-O-C-H okay okay okay
18:07Shannon Sharpe:but I wish him the best I think he's a phenomenal player but I just don't see a scenario where he's going to get the kind of money especially Ocho 36 years of age after just reworking the deal last year. I just don't see it. Ocho, when Devontae was dealt to the Jets last year, he asked then-rookie receiver Malachi Corley for the number 17 jersey. When you're moving like I do, trips don't always come together weeks in advance. Sometimes production shoots, interviews, or something I've got to travel for on a short notice. 21:18Don't miss Guns N' Roses. To honor our country on its 250th birthday, this can of Copenhagen goes out to those defending the free American soil that our tobacco has taken root in for over two centuries and counting. Here's to the calloused hands of freedom. Copenhagen, saluting American grit, proven since 1822. Warning, this product is not a safe alternative to cigarettes.
21:52Shannon Sharpe:He offered the rookie$17 ,000 in exchange for the number 17, according to Devontae. According to Devontae, so he responds, he said, hey man it's good to you have happy you're on the squad but i need a million i'll be you what a million american dollars just for for a number
22:17he he was serious or he was trolling he was serious man man you know you almost made me curse. My bad. I'm sorry. But listen, if I was him, being that I had the number 17, and I don't have a, I'm not a household name, but someone like Devontae Adams come to my team where 17 resonates with that individual, knowing that he's worn it, one of the better players in the NFL and has been for a very long time, I'm selling that jersey. Maybe not for 17. and you throw me 50 or 100 ,000, I'm going to give it to you. Right.
22:56Shannon Sharpe:50 or 100 ,000, that's feasible. Right. Devontae should have went 50 to 100. You're right. 17 ,000. Come on, Devontae. Come on, man. I... Hey, you got to start low. You got to negotiate. You got to negotiate. 17, let's Devontae start 17. If I'm... What's his name? I said other dude's name? Malachi Corley. Malachi Corley. I mean, listen, man, you know, 17 that's really disrespectful you really disrespecting me you know i'm not a bump i'm not a bum i make money too make it worth my while give me a price that's worth my while and 17 000 ain't it i would have said here 50 if he said no to 50 okay but let's talk let's 75 now i can get 100 000 that's it i'm not going no higher than that
23:4350 i took 50 yeah yeah i mean yeah come on man we talked this devonce adams one of the greatest receivers of all time
23:52Shannon Sharpe:so what number did Devontae wear last year? did they take the number from him?
24:02Shannon Sharpe:he's at the Browns now right? right yeah I know Devontae is in the Rams
24:37Shannon Sharpe:So in other words, he went to the Jets and the Jets took the number from him. So he probably ended up getting nothing. Probably. Bro, if you're not on the active roster, you're in no position to bargain. Listen, if anything, if you're going to bargain, that's probably why he said a million. Because he's not making enough. If anything,$50 ,000,$75 ,000,$100 ,000. Ocho. It's good money. That's good money. Money. But the fact you're not, you're a practice squad. That's Devontae. They traded to get him. he automatically comes in and he trumps you so you got nothing yeah yeah 17 would have been more than look here man hey give me 50 and we hey we good i i really wanted 100 but i know you you've worn 17 since you've been in the league give me 50.
25:3217 resonates with that player there's certain players that come from other teams the number resonates with them and it just carries is over like a numerical number.
25:41Shannon Sharpe:So in other words, he goes to the Jets and he says, look, I want number 17. Yeah. Bro, you on the practice squad. And unless somebody's at practice, they don't even know you were 17. Yeah. Because you ain't see your ass in the game. And now look at you. You ain't got no money from Javante and you had to get a 17 up. Mm-hmm.
26:09Shannon Sharpe:Damn.
26:13Shannon Sharpe:Bro, I signed as a free agent with Baltimore. And I was with the, Jermaine Lewis offered him a Rolex for him and his wife. He said no. Okay, cool. I'm like, man, I want an even number, though. I ain't want no. I go to Freaky Frank Rainwhite, rest his soul. Frank passed on. I said, Freaky Frank, hey, man, I need 82. He's like, Sharpie, take it. Yeah. I said, nah, nah, Freaky, I can't do that. We called him Freaky Fras, I said, come on, Freaky, I can't do that. Right. He said, nah, Sharpey, he said, nah, nah, you know, hey, because, you know, he was in Denver who tried to make the team, and Denver didn't make it.
26:54Shannon Sharpe:He said, Sharpey, when I was in Denver, man, you treated me great, you helped me out a lot, I really, really appreciate that, Sharpey. Just take it. I said, nah, Freaky. Tell me what you do. I said, what's your hobby? He said, Sharpey, I like to fish. Fish. I said, what if I got you a boat? say shopper you don't have to do that i cut him a chance to go get your basketball bro how much a bad boat cost i think i wrote him a check for like 20 grand 25 000 well you got it what no i mean look i didn't come in there i'm not trying to big time nobody right i was the biggest free agent that they brought in nah no no that man had that number before she hadn't brought his ass there.
27:38Shannon Sharpe:Don't try. I ain't trying to take advantage of nobody. I want the number. I want 82. Ozzy wore 82 when he was in Cleveland. I said, you know what? I want that number. Well, matter of fact, since you cutting checks, I saw a little escalator I like too. A little escalator IQ.
27:58Shannon Sharpe:You owe me$5 ,900. Huh? you owe me $5 ,900 I got you but you cut freaky check that was also in 2000 oh so inflation so she would throw me$50 ,000 there money jumped funny in 25 hold on hold on I'm just saying jump funny
28:26hey everybody listen we gonna get back on track yeah
28:30Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, yeah. But that's just me, Ocho. Everybody don't look at it like that. That's just me. How I looked at it, I'm like, okay, the man had the man. That's his number. He's had it. Boom. Right. So, hey, I'm Corley. But I can see, Ocho, I can see if that number has some sense. It'll be interesting to see what number was he when in college. What number was he in high school? If he had that number, Ocho, you know what I'm saying? But even still, even if you had it, come on now. We talk about a legendary, iconic player. We talk about the Bonsky Adams, the best route runner in the NFL. Yes. For those of you in the NFL.
29:10Shannon Sharpe:I hear private Ocho.
29:13Shannon Sharpe:He was living at Western Kentucky. Ocho. When Jerry went to Seattle, he personally called Steve Largent. Steve Largent number is retired. Steve Largent was the first ballot Hall of Famer. Yeah. if Steve Larger can unretire number 80 bro you could
29:40man man
29:48Shannon Sharpe:I don't know maybe he has his reasons I mean Devontae said I offered him $17 ,000 I ain't gonna lie Devontae I wouldn't let it go for that either It's going to cost you$50 Hey, can you hear me? Yeah Hold on They're saying I need a connected internet
30:09Shannon Sharpe:Did you say you're going to send me my money? Because I didn't hear that No, I just In the hotel, I mean The screen to connect it Just popped up out the blue Okay, I guess I don't know why I did that Oh, Joe. What's that? NFL agents have spoken. Okay. The Cincinnati Bengals and the Dallas Cowboys were voted as the league's most unstable franchises in a recent survey. Whoa, whoa. NFL writer Ben Standig surveyed agents to find out which team they consider the league's most unstable franchise. The Bengals topped the list, followed by the Cowboys, which means they're worse than the Panthers and the Browns.
30:52Wait, hold on, hold on. I don't understand. When we talk about unstable franchises, I'm trying to understand what are the agents basing that off of? Because the Bengals have been stable for a very long time.
31:03Shannon Sharpe:One agent referred to the Bengals as a mom and pop ownership. The Bengals are owned by Mike Brown and he has several family members working at the team's front office. Similar to Dallas. Ocho, a lot of people say never mix family with business. So the Cowboys and Bengals were family run. And, you know, Jerry, like, in the docuseries, he called Steven. He called Charlotte. He called Jerry Jr. He said, guys, I'm going to do this, but it's all hands on deck. Right. Steven said, hey, I need you guys to move to Dallas. They all did. Mike Brown came up under his daddy, Paul, who created the Cleveland Browns, owned the Browns.
31:43Shannon Sharpe:Boom. Art Modell got him. He started a new team, Cincinnati Bengals. and there you have it. Yeah, yeah. I don't like that though. I don't like that for the simple fact if you look at the direction and where the Bengals were and how far they've come in trying to build a winning team and how people have the moniker of they are very cheap to where they now have changed that narrative and have paid their players. I just don't understand. Oh, so they played two players. Stop. Well, they've been playing players. And think about it. I'm 57. They came into existence in 1968. So in 57 years, they've really played two players.
32:22Shannon Sharpe:Stop it.
32:25Do I need to break down all the players that they've actually played?
32:29Shannon Sharpe:I know the players that they've let go, that they refuse to pay. But anyway, but look, a lot of teams.
32:40Shannon Sharpe:I think the thing is, Ocho, is that you look at the Colts. the Colts they kind of you know Jim Irsay rest his soul now his daughters are in charge
32:54Shannon Sharpe:Virginia McCaskey rest her soul her dad founded the Chicago Bears George Mr. Hallis he's passed on passed it down to the son Amy Adams Bud Adams daughter she took over I think Amy Adams skunk, I think that's how you say it. But if you go back and look at Mr. Wilson that owned the Buffalo Bills, they sold it. So, you look at the Rams when Georgia Frontier, when she passed, they sold it. Some like, we don't want that headache. You look at the Bowling family, they couldn't come to a consensus on who was going to run it. They ended up selling it to Rob Walton and his family, the Penners. So to each his own.
33:50Yeah, I don't like that. I don't like for the agents to talk about because I'm just thinking of how bad the organization used to be. And I'm picturing where they are now. And they're in a good space. So them being unstable, Mike Brown, Katie, Troy Blackburn, Duke Tobin, Zach Taylor, they have done a phenomenal job in building a winning team. Building a team, for one, getting the quarterback that gives you a chance. So each year, every year we come in, even though we missed the playoff last year, we have a chance. And it's all based on how we start those first three, four weeks. That's what matters most.
34:30We don't have to rely on anybody on the back end of the season, hoping so-and-so win so we can get in. We got to take care of our business, starting this goddamn Sunday down there in Cleveland on that water.
34:44Shannon Sharpe:Let's go Browns. Come again? Let's go Browns. You don't want to bet nothing? I don't. Okay. When you're moving like I do, trips don't always come together weeks in advance. Sometimes production shoots, interviews, or something I've got to travel for on a short notice, like the time when I had the last minute trip to Denver and everything came together fast. Once it was locked in, I had to be ready to go. That's where Amazon Prime can make a difference. When something comes together quickly, you can get what you need like grooming essentials, neck pillows, eye masks, even snacks for the flights.
35:17Shannon Sharpe:So you're ready to show up for it. With same day delivery, all those items show up on time and still make the trip. So you can show up and focus on why you're there and not everything around it. Because at that point, it's not just about getting there. It's about making the most of the opportunity in front of you. That's what I like about Prime. It makes easy to say yes when the moment shows up. Same day delivery. It's on Prime. Available in select areas. Terms apply. 37:45Shannon Sharpe:Warning, this product is not a safe alternative to cigarettes. I don't want to bet against my own money. Christian McCaffrey did not practice today with a calf issue that popped up during yesterday's workout, but he made it clear that he believes he'll be on the field Sunday against the Seahawks. I always plan to play. I feel great where I'm at. Unfortunately, when you have an injury history that I have, sometimes when you don't practice, things get blown out of proportion. But like I said, I feel great. Ocho, should we make something out of this? Yes. Yes, because he's always hurt. I love McCaffrey.
38:21I love the player he is when he's actually on the field playing. But these things continuously always happen to him. Soft tissue injuries. A nick here, a nick there. You say it all the time. If you limp in the season, you will limp out the season. The fact that people are getting hurt and the season hasn't even started, well, it started, but teams haven't even played yet, and some people are already hurt. How are we already hurt? You know what it all comes down to? You don't practice as much. You don't hit as much. But for some reason, everyone continues. You hurt more. You hurt more. You want to know why?
39:00It all comes down to one thing. And again, I say this all the time. This is why they need to listen to me. Ultra versus science. Science is a reason that everyone is getting hurt. All this healthy stuff that they're eating, they're putting in their bodies and they're wondering why their bodies are breaking down. You ain't even done nothing yet.
39:24Likely Baltimore hurt right now. Christian McCaffrey ailing, you know, I mean, like, come on, man. I can see it. The season has started. You didn't play two, three, four, maybe five games. And then something comes up. You ain't, we ain't done nothing yet, man. Come on, man.
39:40Shannon Sharpe:Guys. I know you guys were expecting, uh, we were supposed to have ghost face on, but he's having, um, internet issues. and so instead of just having it go in and out, we said we'll connect with him another time. So we're sorry for any inconvenience. Some of you guys might have popped on, some of them in the chat might have just popped on to see Ghostface. There will be no Ghostface tonight. He's having internet issues with the Wi-Fi and we said, look, just come back at a later time when you get this thing connected so we can have perfect connection. So that's what's going on. Unfortunately, we're not going to be able to get Ghost on tonight, but trust best believe we'll uh we'll he'll be back he'll come on at a later date in time i agree with you ocho look they don't i i just don't understand how guys are hurting more when you hit less i do understand because your body's not callous your body's not used to taking the blows and so then all of a sudden you start taking those blows and your body's not used to it you're not used to falling you're not used to getting banged you're not used to getting bumped into I'm used to talking football terms.
40:44Shannon Sharpe:You're not used to the collision that you have in practice. Sometimes guys get ran into it in practice, Ocho. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And now, I mean, damn, guys, stay hurt. Yeah. I'm telling you what the common denominator is. I'm telling you what the common factor is. But nobody wants to listen to me. Yeah. Yeah, he must have got the same in there provided as Joe got.
41:16Shannon Sharpe:Ocho, Seattle Seahawks will have undercover law enforcement officers wearing opposing team jersey at Lumen and Field this season in an effort to quickly detect and address illegal and unruly fan behavior. I like this. I like it. It's cool. it's cool it's cool but but one of the things one of the enjoyments you have as a fan is to be at a game and be unruly to talk trash to say some things whatever you want to say from the stands as long as it is not um as long as you don't throw objects you should be able to say whatever you want to say now unruly now the fighting okay now that if you want to niche get get a hold on the fight.
42:00But the racial slurs,
42:01Shannon Sharpe:the homophobic slurs, the xenophobic slurs, you know when you combine alcohol and your team is not winning, you know, people all of a sudden, they get out of hand. And you're like, well, hey, we're at a game and emotions are high, logic is low. And then when you get alcohol, because alcohol, all alcohol does is break down inhibitions. Whatever you say, you thought about sober.
42:31Shannon Sharpe:A drunken mouth Is a sober man's thoughts Oh yeah So you only say it don't you only say it What you thought sober People like man He got drunk No he thought about stealing That dump truck while he was sober He thought about stealing this plane While he was sober He just built up the courage to do it While he was drunk yeah I think it's more so to fight now we talk about the unruly fans getting drunk being intoxicated they're fighting against each other you know it's I think that's more so well what you think leads to fight talking trash you start calling people out of their name and you know you start it all of a sudden you start touching you all in people faith man nobody want to smell your drunken breath yeah all right uh you know i i've always just tried to like have my family or you know friend look bro don't don't wear no don't wear no 84 jerseys or no 82 jerseys up there in that stands bro it ain't worth it yeah i wouldn't definitely let nobody go to oakland you asking for it the black hole you asking for huh yeah man please many people crazy over there man them people was crazy at the black hole you tell it they throwing the bus they rocking the bus on the way in nah yeah oh cho angel reese got suspended for the first half of a game saying her teammates suck this guy made a statement saying uh the chicago sky values the safety respect and well-being of every player we are committed to accountability so our players can stay focused on playing basketball.
44:18Shannon Sharpe:Because of the statements detrimental to the team made by Angel Reese during a league-mandated media, she will not play in the first half of the game September 7th against the Las Vegas Aces. This matter has been handled and resolved internally, and we're moving forward as a team. Now, mind you, she's suspended for a game because she picked up her eighth technical foul. So, and I think that's tonight. That was tonight, right? She was suspended tonight, and now she's suspended the first half against the Aces on the 7th of B Monday, correct? Yeah. Sunday. Sunday. My bad, Sunday. Sunday. Sunday. Yeah, look.
44:59Shannon Sharpe:Andrew expressed her dissatisfaction with the state of the franchise is what she said. I'd like to be here for my career, but if things don't pan out, obviously I might have to move in a different direction and do what's best for me. But while I'm here, I'm going to try to stay open-minded about what I have here and maximize that as much as I can. She then called out specific teammates by name and expressing her desire for Mars to coach the team harder. She was quoted multiple times saying, we need great players. She also questioned whether Courtney VanderSloot was capable of returning to form at the age she's at after tearing an ACL seven games into the season.
45:35Shannon Sharpe:We need someone probably a little younger with some experience, somebody who's been playing the game and willing to compete for a championship and has done it before. Damn, Angel. Shit. Hey, most of the time too, Unc, with someone like that, someone as young as Angel who's coming to the game that has great passion, who's good, there are certain things that you can think, but you never say out loud. Correct. Especially when it's talking about your teammates. Correct. You see all the time, teammates that are grinding with you through training camp, teammates that obviously go to war with you on the court, on the hardwood.
46:10And that would be very offensive. of course it would I couldn't really walk in that locker room and look them in their face again nah I would never say nothing like that
46:24Shannon Sharpe:we done been on teams where we had teammates that we thought were buns yeah we wouldn't say that no no no no never hell I mean at some point in time they might have thought I was buns I mean I like to think even you know being a seventh round draft pick and working I thought I was a pretty good player I was a good special teams player even if I wasn't contributing that much on offense but I like to think that once I got my way into the starting lineup consistently in 92 and moving forward I like to think I was a pretty good player and just because I was a pretty good player that didn't mean I needed to take a shot at players that I didn't think were on my level or didn't play.
47:07Shannon Sharpe:Look, yeah, I can be upset, Ocho, when we lost the game. And I know guys that didn't play well. Right. I know. I can look up at the jumbotron and see who gave up that sack. I can look up at the jumbotron and see who missed the block. I can go get the steal shots. We didn't have it like they do now, Ocho. You can see the whole entire play. We just had the steal shots where you had to, damn. Like that. I mean, look. She's an emotional player. and she let her emotions get the best of her. Let's not dig a grave and bury her. She's a young woman. She's not used to losing. She was at LSU. They won the national championship, and they went to the final four.
47:52Shannon Sharpe:They didn't get it done the next year, but she's used to winning. She's not used to losing. And you have to, like I tell people, you handle losing with the same grace and dignity as you handle winning. if you're gracious and winning you got to be gracious in defeat you got to be the same yeah and she let emotions get the best of her but even if your emotions get the best of her you can't take like my teammates we need great players because some of our teammates probably say yeah we sure do we sure do yeah oh man so like i said she she she'll learn she'll learn she'll learn what to say, what not to say.
48:32Shannon Sharpe:She'll learn how to say it. She probably could have said, look, we just got to get better. I've got to get better. We've got to get better as a team. We've got to, you know. And now a lot of the stuff that she said, she probably could have told the coach to, you know, coach, I'd like to have a conversation or I'd like to have a meeting with you. Or she could go upstairs and talk to, you know, personnel department. Everything is not for the paper. Everything is not for television. Everything is not for public consumption. Right. And obviously now when you come out and you say things like that, especially about your teammate, now you put a microscope, which is already on you anyway.
49:07Now you got to put a microscope and pressure on yourself. Because now they're going to nitpick. They're going to nitpick by every little thing. So now you got to go out there and be that shining light, be that shining star consistently for that team that you talked about.
49:21Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. It's like I said, you know, she'll learn. She made a, you know, she let her emotions get the best of her. And she'll move on. And hopefully we don't have a repeat of this. And she'll be better for it. But I tell you what, hey, she's Dennis Rodman on the glass, man. She be balling, man. She be balling. Yeah, man. She be balling. Clippers owner Steve Ballmer are accused of circumventing the NBA salary cap via an alleged$28 million no-show marketing deal between Kawhi Leonard and a third-party company that Barmer had invested in. Barmer claims he had no knowledge of the deal between Kawhi and Aspirations, a now bankrupt digital bank and tree-planting startup whose co-founder pleaded guilty to fraud.
50:10Shannon Sharpe:That journalist, Pablo Torre, reported Wednesday on his podcast, Pablo Torre finds out.
50:24look
50:26Shannon Sharpe:all I know is this there have been instances where they've been under the table handshake deals now Adam Silver is a lot more lenient than David Stern David Stern dropped the hammer on Minnesota and he basically ruined him he basically gave him the death penalty
50:47Shannon Sharpe:first of all he undid the deal that they had with joe smith right and then he took like five first round draft picks he basically it was it was basically the equivalent of what the ncaa did to smu he gave him the death penalty right i don't know what's going to happen i don't know what's true i mean there's a lot of circumstantial evidence and maybe adam silver says circumstantial is not good enough right but the company went bankrupt the creditors now become public
51:23yeah i saw steve bomber came out and he uh he had to sit down i'm not sure who the sit down was with so i think it was remodel sherborne oh yeah i saw him explaining himself about the decision it didn't look good yeah and and him saying well what what kawaii does in his personal time and his personal business whatever company this might be that that that's on him as if as if he's finding a way to uh see himself out he's trying to distance himself from the situation right
51:56Shannon Sharpe:damn so why would that company have a deal with kawai
52:08that's out my pay grade and understanding exactly how and why that went on
52:13Shannon Sharpe:yeah it's not a good look I think the owners really like Steve Ballmer he's easy to like I like his passion I love how he's cheering for his team and he gets so caught up he's a fan I think sometimes he forgets that he's an owner. The fan, yeah. He's the owner, yeah. Absolutely. I mean, he's in it. I love it. Man worth$150 billion. And he got tickets up in the rafters. He's so excited. Yeah. Like you said, Ocho, I read a little bit of it. It's not a good look. I'm sure the NFL, the NBA will do their due diligence and whatever needs to happen. But even if he's found guilty, I don't think they're going to make them trade Kawhi or lose Kawhi.
53:10Shannon Sharpe:I don't think he's going to be a death sentence like what Donald Sterling did to the Minnesota Timberwolves. And he suspended Glenn Taylor for a year, and he suspended Kevin McHale for a year. Oh, yeah, he dropped a hammer. He dropped a hammer on him. He really dropped a hammer on him. I don't know if it's going to be that. It might not be anything. It might just be a fine, but it doesn't look good. But, hey, we'll see what happens. All right, it's time for our final segment of the evening. It's time for Q and A. Yeah. Hey, we got football tomorrow too, right? Yes. Is it a success game? Who playing?
53:57Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, college. Okay. I'm just messing. Yeah, we... Gary Peters said, Ocho looked like the Caliphaz and California Razor. You know, you heard it through the grapevine. Hey, I remember the California Razor, they used to be singing. And they were singing, heard it through the grapevine. Yeah, the Marvin Gaye song. Yes. Yes. They were all dressed up, had little tux on, had little white gloves on and everything. Yeah. Now, Ocho clean tonight. Ocho clean tonight. You can't tell him anything. All the money said Ocho dressed like James Bond body double. Keep up the good commentary, gents. Man. Man.
54:47Shannon Sharpe:I don't hear no water. Hands come back. Look at that. Look, all I see, all I do is see him zip, he zipped up his pants, I ain't see no water, I don't see nobody, no wetness on his hands or nothing Who, me? And he touch his nose Hey, hey, hey, what did that person say I look like what? Uh, California raisin Said he hurt you through the grapevine Well, that must be somebody old even, remember that Yeah, hey, the chat making fun of my, making fun of my tuxedo They say you dress like a James Bond body double. Yeah, that's me. I could be a James Bond. I could be a 007. I could be a 007. I told the chat.
55:29You could be a 5900 too. Let me get that. I got you. I got you. I got you. I got you. I went to the Jeezy concert tonight, Unk, and I was watching the game on my phone at the Jeezy concert. How was it? How was the concert? It was really good. You know, we got the orchestra with him. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. He's in tux or something. It's called. It's black time, so everybody Grown folk, everybody in there look good Real spiffy I enjoyed it, it was right around the corner Here in Cincinnati And that was it Went in and enjoyed it, man
56:01Shannon Sharpe:The 7-7 Unc made Ocho dress up Because he ain't paying him that$5 ,200 $59 now It's a little higher than that Matter of fact, you know what Make it$6 ,000 Just make it an even$61 I got you. I got you. I got you. No problem. Kemper Norwood Jr. said the Broncos will win the AFC West this year. I agree, Kemper. Huh? They win the what? I know who won't win the AFC North. You will. All right. This is a different year. I won't bet nothing. This is a different year. Joe X Black said football is back, baby. What a game by my Chargers. What a game by the Chargers tonight. Like, Unc, your Broncos better watch out.
56:46Shannon Sharpe:God bless y 'all and the nightcap crew. Go Cowboys. Hell no, Joe. Ain't no go no Cowboys. You said all that. You talking about the Chargers, talking about the Broncos, talking about God bless nightcap and the crew, and then you're talking about go Cowboys. You think you slick, Joe. Hell no. Ain't no go no Cowboys. Casey Taylor said, Yo, Unc, what's the story between you and Michael Irvin? Y 'all are super close. Y 'all kept dapping up like cousins haven't seen each other in years. It was awesome to watch. Cool stories. But, man, look, the Mike that you see, that's how he is all the time. All the time, 24-7.
57:23Shannon Sharpe:I met Mike the first time in 91 at the Pro Bowl when I went with my brother. He was cool with me. And ever since then, and every time I would, like, see him at the – he wasn't in the Super Bowl, I wasn't in the Super Bowl. We bumping each other. and it's just like he's the guy that makes you feel like he's been knowing you your whole life and you just pick right up where you left off pick right up where you left off uh he's great and then like uh like go to the hall and i don't get a chance to go back and i probably should go uh more try to get back as much as i possibly can but it's a huge undertaking to get especially when i got so much stuff going on but that's not an excuse so sorry i don't even want to make put that throw that out there.
58:08Shannon Sharpe:But he and I was always like, we'd be at the back of the bus and we'd be talking and be laughing and joking about everything. You need to pull up, I think there was a clip, somebody recorded it, of him and I just joking, going back and forth. But that's the type of relationship that we have. We're kind of a little more like, you know, brothers. But he's a great guy. He's a great guy. Michael, he's one of a kind. He's one of a kind. Sonny Ray said, this the year for Lamar or Josh, if ever? Yeah, look, Lamar said this is the best team that he's been a part of. Lamar hasn't had any excuses. They've been had one of the most loaded teams in the AFC.
58:50Shannon Sharpe:Lamar just needs to... The Lamar that we see in the regular season that we've seen over the last three, four regular seasons, that's the Lamar that needs to show up come playoff time for the entirety of the playoffs. If that were to happen, Ravens going to be the Super Bowl champs I love how you're just skipping over the Bengals but okay I'm going to let you rock out Lamar rolled the Bengals Davin Mitchell said watch every night watch every night live from Scottsdale Davin appreciate that appreciate all you guys that's in the chat tonight all you guys that are watching live listening thank you all the guys that everybody that watches and listens and say hey man y 'all got to watch Unc and Ocho on Nightcap man, they be having me dying laughing.
59:34Shannon Sharpe:We thank you as well because it's because of you that nightcap has been able to become the phenomenon that we've become. Eagle fan, I'm in Philly watching nightcap on the big screen at the bar. Shout out to Uncle Nocho. Eagle fan, thank you. Nate Harper says, hey, Uncle Nocho, what do the Eagles need to do to improve on the defense? I think they need to put Cooper DeJount outside the quarterback and bench Adore Jackson. Well, look, Ocho. Yeah. In football, we call it a fish. A lot of times we say, okay, we find a weak link, and we keep tugging until we find it. We keep turning the door handle until one of them is open.
1:00:12Yeah.
1:00:13Shannon Sharpe:And the door jacks are going to have to get that fixed. Yeah. You're going to have to get it fixed. It's really that simple. It's on film now. For sure. It's on film. And once you put it on film, they're coming at you every game. Yep. Every game, they're coming at you. But you see, they saw last night, they couldn't get pressure. they said you sued their side their size is daria smith today yeah they understood they understood absolutely we got to get a body in here that can put some pressure on the quarterback before so we can't have our back in and get exposed so we can't and see when you lost they lost two starters that could go pin their ears back i think one went to new england and the other i forget what the other one went um but you see they blowing by you're getting everybody tired Now those guys that were their backups, they're the starters.
1:01:01Shannon Sharpe:Now they're finding it's a little harder. Now all of a sudden those guys are tired. Yeah.
1:01:11Shannon Sharpe:It's a difference. They're finding that out. But they're going to have to get pressure. They're going to have to get pressure without sacrificing that secondary. Hey, y 'all talking about Darius Slade. Darius Slade still had some life in those legs. Wasn't nothing wrong with him. That's a business move.
1:01:31Shannon Sharpe:legendary that boy Justin Jefferson a bad man put some respect on that man less F and go okay peacemaker advocate if a player knows he's going to say something in an interview that's going to cost him more than skipping it he might be wise to keep quiet
1:01:57Shannon Sharpe:I just think the thing is, Ocho, you can control it. Yeah. You're frustrated. Everybody gets frustrated. You lose a game that you think you should win or it's a close game and you don't play well. Bro, just go out there and BS your way through it. We just got to be better. We got to be better. That today wasn't good enough. Maybe against another team on another day, that would have been good enough. But it wasn't good enough today. So we go back and look at the tape. We got to be more attentive in meetings. We got to be better in practice. We ask everybody, coaches, players alike, to be better.
1:02:35Shannon Sharpe:In order for us to be the type of team that we know we can become, we have to be better. You don't have to go there and blow everybody up. Nobody going to be up there and say, oh, man, now all of a sudden, We really like this guy because he just blew up all his teammates. No. Doesn't work like that.
1:02:57Yeah.
1:02:59Shannon Sharpe:It is too small. All-Star Cowboy, D.C. for life. What up, Ogunocho? I'm a Cowboys fan, and I can honestly say our run defense look pretty damn good. I got to see a lot more as the season progresses, but overall, more than what most expected. Yeah. I'll give them credit. They played well last night. You let the quarterback get out. But, you know, most teams don't have a quarterback that's as athletic and as mobile as Jalen Hurts. So you should feel so. But you should be concerned. You ain't getting no pressure. Your defense built the pressure.
1:03:39Shannon Sharpe:And I like the Cowboys offense in the first half. I didn't really like anybody's offense in the second half. Only three points were scored, Ocho. Yeah. So, with that being said, the Cowboys had to be pleased with their rush defense. They weren't happy with their pass rush defense.
1:03:57Shannon Sharpe:But, yeah. They'll be okay. But that defense is better. That division is better. Got better, yeah. Top to bottom. Bless it. It was so funny when you and Mike imitated Al Davis. with you and Mike. He never takes Al. Al was a little... It's kind of like, Ochoa, you go somewhere, you take on the habits. I don't know who... I guess the Jets. I mean, who's the Patriots rival? The Jets? Or Buffalo? Or the Dolphins?
1:04:40Shannon Sharpe:Probably the Jets. yeah maybe maybe the Jets and so with that being said like okay look it's always we had what we call Raider week Raiders is our rival we don't like Kansas City either San Diego Seattle all of us used to be in the same division but once Mike came there and he told us that we're going to take it out of ass digger we're going to beat him out of his team owe the man money and tell him about sue me and it's going to cost you more attorney fees than what I owe you. Who says that? Oh, yeah, we got to have you. Yeah. We got to have you. Pay that man the money.
1:05:27Shannon Sharpe:But he was great. The thing is he had been around football so long. He's the first commissioner of the AFL. He knew good players. He'd always walk around. Ochoa, he had that white sweatsuit on. Yeah. White pants, he had a white sweatsuit, he had a white pants. You know, coming from the South, you know, we didn't wear white pants Labor Day. Labor Day, yeah. Al got on white in September, October, November, December, January. Al got on white. And he would always come. And, you know, he's like, you want to be a Raider? No, I kind of like it right here. I'm good, I'm good. The Broncos, Mr. B, treat me quite well.
