Key claims

  • Packers’ roster moves and salary management justify trading Micah Parsons; Micah’s impact is framed as quarterback-hunting pressure.
  • NFL lifting Brady’s media ban won’t create a meaningful “unfair advantage” because tendencies are already on film.
  • Christian McCaffrey’s workload is expected to carry the 49ers if he stays healthy.
  • Cam Ward’s arrival is expected to boost the Titans’ receiving/attack.
  • Justin Fields can become a late-blooming franchise QB if the Jets build the right pieces.

Notable examples

  • Micah retiring his mother Sharice Parsons after the trade; Instagram story quote.
  • Kenny Clark shocked by being traded to Dallas.
  • Taylor Townsend vs. Yelena Ostapenko U.S. Open handshake/net confrontation.
  • “Long Walk” treadmill movie concept; “Mac Tilly” McDonald parking-lot birth story.

You have one of the best players in the league, but with Jordan Love making$55 million a year and Michael Parsons making$47 million a year, how will they build a strong enough roster? They have a strong roster already. They do. Have you seen the Packers offense or y 'all tripping? Have y 'all been paying attention to football? Please remember and understand this is the perfect time where you don't have a high salary at the receiver position.

2:36You don't have any high salaries at the skill position on the other side of the ball either.

2:42Shannon Sharpe:You got rid of Alexander? Yeah, so you're good. So you got – and plus you got two bookends. Remember we had Rashawn Gary. Yeah. So you got him on one side. You got Micah on the other side. So now you got a tandem that can go hunt the quarterback. Jordan Love, all you got to do is get him a lead. That's it. Get him a lead and turn him loose. Yeah. That's the way the Broncos won the Super Bowl. They get a lead and then they unleash DeMarcus Ware and they unleash Von Mill on your ass. Yeah. That's it. Yeah. Yeah, that's what he did. Everybody else flying around. The Green Bay Packers have a very, very, very, very good receiving core.

3:26Very good receiving core. Understand this is a passing league right now. You got some boys over there, and they can go. They can go.

3:34Shannon Sharpe:Listen, for me, I like the Packers doing this because they're going for it right now. I'm not waiting. But if you force me, Ocho, they're not better than the Eagles. No. healthy, healthy Matthew Stafford. They're not better than the Rams. With Puka, with Kyron Williams, with Devontae Adams, Matthew Stafford, and you got burst, and you got that bonded pass rush from the left. They're not for me. I'm just saying to me. You can disagree with it, but I think the Eagles and the Rams are better than the Packers. That is just my opinion. I don't think so. not with the addition of Micah not with the addition of Micah I put the Eagles and the Packers before the Rams no I put I put the Eagles I've got the Eagles one I got the Rams two I'm not so sure I want to see the commanders but I think the commanders is going to be really good I think Vaughn is going to have a resurgence I think Vaughn is going to have a resurgence there

4:44Shannon Sharpe:let's see what Lattimore because Lattimore the last couple of years his play slipped a little a little bit for one he was coming off an injury last year he had to get his feet back wet get back acclimated to getting into a groove of the game so he was always one step behind this year he's coming in a lot healthier so I'm looking forward to him doing great things for them defensively So he should get back to playing the kind of football we know he can play, and we're used to seeing him play. So I think we're going to be all right. In that division, the quarterbacks, Caleb Williams, got to go hunting.

5:22Shannon Sharpe:Jerry Goff, you got to go hunting. Or J.J. McCarthy, you got to go hunting. Now, the thing that I do like, like he does – see, and plus the weather. Micah's going to have to adjust. Micah's not used to playing in cold. It's cold in green, mate. Hey, I told you it's cold. Penn State, man. Penn State. it's cold up there now man by the time it get cold season over you got to realize they're season over in november oh damn and then they going to play in the rose bowl right right right hey green bay you practice outside don't you oh yeah chicago outside don't you oh yeah i like so look and look it it gets it gets cold in dallas and in philly you know washington to i don't know if anybody i don't know if y 'all been to wisconsin yeah i don't know if i don't know if you've ever been to lambeau field i've been there but that ain't a place you want to be in november december or january trust me my brother played there for seven years i played there i visited there i played there man that cold ain't hey man that that that that's that wet heavy cold I'm talking about that got heavy moisture Oh yeah I mean Ocho I'm talking about you know the sun I was so cold there the sun rose with an overcoat on Ocho I'm talking about it cold like that It's the kind of cold that make you think about your occupation Do I really want to do this?

6:47Do I really want to play NFL football? That's how cold it get in Green Bay I love it though I love me some cold boy

6:55Shannon Sharpe:Got my hands right here Anything below 30 degrees, count me in. Count me in. Nah, I want 85 and sunny. Uh-uh. I love that cold, but I don't know what it is about that cold. I don't. I love it. Yeah. Hey, you remember in April? What that weather was like when we was out there in April at the draft? You like, ooh. Oh, yeah. It had a little spike to it. Yeah. That is April. Yeah. I mean, hey, rest of your soul, Prince, when Prince says sometimes it snows in April, I'm like, that's a song or is it real?

7:36Shannon Sharpe:Because Micah announces the number that he's going to wear. He's going to wear the number one. He's the first Packer to wear that number since Curly Lambeau, former head coach. Hey, that's live. Lambeau Field is named after. Right. The Lombardi Trophy is named after Vince Lombardi. Right. I'm surprised. Hold on. Somebody got number 11. He couldn't. Yeah, Reed. Jay Reed. Okay. Jay Reed got 11. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. No, no, no, no, no. Jay Reed, you can't get Curly Lambert, rest his soul. You can't get that number, man. You got to be really, you got to be, no, you got to be Jamar Chase or Justin Jefferson, somebody like that to ask for that number.

8:19Shannon Sharpe:Right. When you're moving like I do, trips don't always come together weeks in advance. Man, sometimes production shoots, interviews, or something I've got to travel for on a short notice. Like the time when I had the last minute trip to Denver and everything came together fast. Once it was locked in, I had to be ready to go. That's where Amazon Prime can make a difference. When something comes together quickly, you can get what you need like grooming essentials, neck pillows, eye masks, even snacks for the flights. So you're ready to show up for it. With same day delivery, all those items show up on time and still make the trip so you can show up and focus on why you're there and not everything around it.

8:56Shannon Sharpe:Because at that point, it's not just about getting there. It's about making the most of the opportunity in front of you. That's what I like about Prime. It makes easy to say yes when the moment shows up. Same day delivery. It's on Prime. Available in select areas. Terms apply. Visit Amazon.com slash Prime to find millions of items delivered fast. 11:19Yeah. I'm just going to keep it.

11:24Shannon Sharpe:Ocho, eight months' time, Dallas' two biggest superstars have been traded. Luka Doncic, Michael Parsons have left the city because the owners don't want to pay. The Luka situation, I mean, you're talking about$350 million, Ocho. That's what you're looking at,$350 million. 350. They're like, 350. I know he's 26, but his off-the-field habits, look, playing like that, he going to give me 30, 10 and 8, I got a little pony keg for him when he come out to practice for him. That's exactly what he going to give you every time. I still don't understand it, but I think still there's some deeper issues to it that we don't know about that haven't come out because that just didn't make any sense to me it just didn't hell the micah one didn't make any sense either but i knew i knew knowing micah i'm even if i didn't know him personally hearing the owner say some of the things that jerry jones said out loud there's no way i'm playing for that again i'm not stepping on the field for you i'm not fighting for you not having the big payday resulted in michael parsons being able to retire his mother, Sharice Parsons, from work.

12:40Shannon Sharpe:He posted a video of him celebrating with her on his Instagram story, writing, that moment when mama never got to go to work again. Watch this, Ocho.

12:58That's dope. That's dope, Monk. That's one of the greatest feelings in the world. One of the greatest feelings in the world. Obviously, my grandmother was a little different once I made it. obviously I didn't get that kind of money once I got drafted. I remember telling grandma, I said, baby, we finally made it. You can move out of Liberty City. You don't have to be here anymore. And my grandma, you know how they are. They set in their ways. They said, boy, I am not going nowhere. You know how long this house has been here? This house was passed down to me from my mama. And from my mom, my mom, mom, I ain't going nowhere.

13:33I appreciate you. I'm glad you made it. I made a lot of sacrifices for you to get to where you are now. I say, I know you did. That's why I want to repay you. Get you a nice place. Get you a nice car. I take some on four wheels. That's what my grandma talked. I take some on four wheels. But Gene, I'm not getting no house. I will be here.

13:53Shannon Sharpe:My grandma ain't never learned how to drive. Ain't want to learn how to drive. She go and get on that passenger seat. Come on. Tell you how to drive. Don't you need to put your blank on? Granny, you ain't never had no driver's license how you know what i'm doing wrong right right how fast you going over there what difference does it make you ain't got no break over there right but uh you're right oh them old people they get hey you know and i told a story like oh joe i would give my grandmother i'll come home give my grandma 2500 she said she was sitting liby up there with 50 let me go pay on that bill pay on the bill granny just pay it off ocho she on hundred dollars she done got a hundred dollars worth of grocery over the course of a couple of couple of weeks or something like that right right she's sitting up there with a little piece of 50.

14:43Shannon Sharpe:here let me put something on it here let me go pay this thing off hey oh man i don't know why old people like that ocho the mere fact that she was still putting stuff on credit credit yeah that's how them old people are wired we got to take we have to have one of my uncles to come take my grandma fishing to put a refrigerator put a washer and dryer leave it don't bother them boys let that's they money live right don't bother them boys with that you got to scoop water out the washer to get it because it won't it won't it won't spin the water won't come out you gotta scoop the water up out of there yeah the refrigerator the refrigerator is 72 degrees they put Ocho she done have my she done have my sister go to the hardware store and buy a cooler so buy go get ice from the convenience store and then put the stuff on the cooler the refrigerator don't work oh man but that's how that's how them old people think Ocho yeah maybe don't bother them boys we okay yeah I would have some good days man that's a great feeling congratulations Micah Sharice enjoy retirement enjoy retirement kick your feet up and guess what son I'm coming to see you every weekend yeah coming to see you every weekend and make sure I have a suite too because I don't want to sit outside in the cold oh yeah but I think the thing is like if he had gotten his money I don't know she might not want to leave he's from Harrisburg so I don't know if she still lives in Harrisburg or she want to move to Dallas and be close but hey whatever you want mama whatever you want I'm going to get you a nice little house that, you know, you don't need nothing, mama, no$3,$4 million.

16:26Shannon Sharpe:I'll get you a nice little crib. Have somebody come in once a week, clean this thing for your mom. Hey, don't you worry about anything. Get you, hey, go set this thing out for your mom. Take a load off your feet. New Cowboys defensive tackle Kenny Clark had no idea he was going to be traded from Green Bay to Dallas as part of the Michael Parsons deal. I was shocked, but once Jerry and all those guys called me, shot it, everybody I just felt wanted. It's a blessing. I'm appreciative of it. No nonsense. You're going to get a dog, somebody that's all about, that's all just all about football. I'm here to ball.

16:58Shannon Sharpe:I'm here to be my, to be my best self. I feel like without my best self, there's nobody messing with me. That's what I bring to the table. I'm here to play my ass off. I like it. I like it. Saying all the right things. Yes. And like you said, he can play. He can play. Oh yeah. Kenny Clark can go now. I just, I mean, the whole comments about, they make me feel wanted. And obviously, if you heard some of the things the guy who owns the team over there said, of course. That ain't what he said about the guy that you got traded to. You didn't make him feel more. Listen, hey, anytime you get something new, you get a new little toy, you know, of course.

17:36You know, you always make it feel like it's something.

17:39Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know the new relationship? You know how that go. You know how that go. Yeah, she bad at you. Yeah, yeah. You know what I'm saying? You can ride your boy. She bad. Ooh. Yeah. What do you think? oh my god yeah i know that's that's how the cowboys look at the kitty clark right now yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah we got we hey nice you got us one but the guy that you shipped out you need to make him feel like the way y 'all make kenny clark the question is if i were to ask michael parson oh last eight months did they make you feel wanted because you could have did you You could have done something after year three.

18:19Shannon Sharpe:You didn't. Now, it was going to be virtually impossible to sign Dak, CD, and when you got Dak and CD, and then guess what? Now I try to get Micah. Well, you get them early. Get them early. Yeah. Because late. And you go, oh, I was going to give him the highest contract. Man, 40 and a half? Highest what? Stop lying. Yeah, I mean, you ain't got no state income tax, but you know what? 47, I'm good. I get Uncle Sam with a little cut. Whatever you got, whatever you need. The NFL is lifting their media ban on Tom Brady, and he will now be allowed to attend production meetings with coaches and teams.

19:08Shannon Sharpe:Unfair advantage for the Raiders, Ochoa, or is it a big deal? It's not a big deal at all. Not a big deal at all, obviously. I mean, there's really nothing Tom is going to do. You know, being in that position to be able to attend those meetings like that, it's no harm, no foul. I mean, no harm, no foul. I like it. I mean, what is Tom going to do in general? What is he going to do? How advantageous for Tom or the Raiders in any way, shape, form, or fashion? It's not. It absolutely is. So what did Coach, what y 'all talk about? When they ask you, when you win those production meetings, what did they ask you?

19:40Shannon Sharpe:Do you think any of the teams that he's going to cover, do you think the Raiders are going to play them? Yeah, probably not. Are those any team that he's going to cover on Sunday, will they play the Raiders? Yeah, they do. Do you think he could pass any information back to the offensive or defensive coaches for the Raiders? I have a question, Don. Is there anything Tom Brady can say that they don't already see on film that's going to help them on Sunday when the whistle blows in between those lines? No. Yeah. Tom Brady here in the coaches says, this is what we like to do in this down and distance.

20:12That doesn't mean you're going to be able to stop it Because even if they do tell Tom Brady that, the tendencies and what they like to do is already on film.

20:20Shannon Sharpe:Let me ask you this. If you didn't gain an unfair advantage, why did they give the defensive captain the radio signal? So why don't anybody signal in play anymore? Nobody gained an advantage by taping the signals. Why did the defensive guy got a helmet? If that was the case, why did they put that thing in the quarterback's helmet? And nobody got to gain an advantage by anything. Yeah. I mean, I'm just telling you, me and my thought process is just because Tom Brady knows what other teams are doing and those teams might play the Raiders, that still doesn't put the Raiders in an advantageous situation just because of what another team has said they'd like to do.

20:59Because whatever they do like to do is already on film. Whatever they tell Tom in those production meetings is already on film.

21:06Shannon Sharpe:So one of the greatest minds to ever play the quarterback position, he can't add nothing. You can't add nothing, though, because the greatest mind that played the position, he doesn't play anymore. He don't need to play. He doesn't play anymore. But he can tell you what you need to do. Well, if that's the case, then everybody would look to – No. Everybody ain't like that. So, in other words, if that's the case, why are you out there helping those receivers? You can't play anymore. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's me. I can show them how to – You want to help everybody with their diet? You want to help – With their workouts?

21:40I got my certificate. as a nutritionist. Oh, you did? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm ready. Yeah, matter of fact, Mike is going to be my third client. Damn, pretty soon. You might not even want to work on nightcap. You're going to have all these clients. I'm going to always be him. I'm going to always be him because all the meal prep stuff I do, I do in the morning and afternoon.

22:05Shannon Sharpe:Okay. Let me ask you a question, Ocho. How would you feel getting interviewed by Tom Brady? so you'll play a company and you know you go into production meeting it's gonna be straight jokes it's gonna be straight jokes the same way i am with you the same man with prime and the same way i am with tom is the same way i am with bill belichick is the same way i am with roger goodell it doesn't matter who's sitting in front of me you still get the same mocho them jokes is gonna fly you might try to be serious i'm gonna find a way to wiggle around the seriousness everything lighthearted. Yeah. Always.

22:44Shannon Sharpe:I mean, it's just like anything. When you went in there and you to see all those guys that you grew up watching and listening to Yes, sir. The great, you know, the John Madden and the Pat Summerall's, you know, the Dick Enberg's and Chris Collinsworth and, you know, you like, man, man, I'm like, you know all those men it's like gee but man that got me we have no guy like tom that's it now we had some quarterbacks and they were in the hall of fame but that's the guy yeah that is the guy uh that'd be really cool christian mccaffrey played only four games last season ocho because of injuries. He had a league leading 339 touches in 2023 and has 1 ,871 touches in his eight seasons.

23:39Shannon Sharpe:That's not a whole lot. That's a little over 220. That's a little over 225, about 240, which ain't a whole lot of touches. But I guess he's on a little smaller side. 205, that's a lot of touches for 205. Kyle Shanahan, the 49ers, aren't worried about any of that. I like to watch out the guy moves and how he's out there. I see Christian looking the same as he's always looked, so I don't really think about his age when it comes to that case. Now, if he started looking different, then I'd probably start questioning some of the things. Then I'd probably be looking at how old he is and look at that 30 thing, but Christian gives us no reason to think that he came in healthy this year, he's had a hell of an offseason, and he's got a hell of a training camp.

24:22Shannon Sharpe:I believe that's going to lead to a hell of a year. Yeah, I like it. I agree. Yeah, I mean, I agree too. as long as he stays healthy. I agree. Normally when he misses a season, Ocho, he comes back and he raises hell. He gives you that work. Christian McCaffrey is extremely, extremely skilled. So his decline will look different than anyone else's decline when they lose a step. But for him, I'm excited. I think as he goes, the rest of that team goes as well because they don't have to me a viable number one option as a receiving threat yes that pressure off of off of purdy so i think the team in itself is going to have to be carried on the shoulders of goddamn c-mac he's gonna have he's gonna have to be that workhorse he's gonna have to be that workload to getting the boys going yeah kyle's gonna have to be on this he's gonna have to be on his a game calling plays because like you said they don't really have which we'll see if what once IU get back how he looks.

25:28Shannon Sharpe:You know, Pierce Hall, we'll see how he does. They signed D-Rob, but I think he's going to be out the first three games. They signed Sky Moore. When you're moving like I do, trips don't always come together weeks in advance. Sometimes production shoots, interviews, or something I've got to travel for on a short notice, like the time when I had the last minute trip to Denver, and everything came together fast. Once it was locked in, I had to be ready to go. That's where Amazon Prime can make a difference. When something comes together quickly, you can get what you need like grooming essentials, neck pillow, eye mask, even snacks for the flights.

26:04Shannon Sharpe:So you're ready to show up for it. With same day delivery, all those items show up on time and still make the trip. So you can show up and focus on why you're there and not everything around it. Because at that point, it's not just about getting there. It's about making the most of the opportunity in front of you. That's what I like about Prime. It makes easy to say yes when the moment shows up. Same day delivery. It's on Prime. Available in select areas. Terms apply. Visit Amazon.com slash Prime to find millions of items delivered fast. Strong hands built America and kept it running for 250 years.

The highlights, the rivalries, the breakout stars, the moments that take over your entire timeline. And the conversations that start during the game and somehow keep going all week. Every week, we're breaking down the biggest stories across women's sports. Naomi Osaka showing out. She beat. Shout out to you, Naomi. You get the palm, Naomi. You get the palm for that. Because we're not just interested in what happened. We're interested in why everyone's talking about it.

28:37Shannon Sharpe:You know, he had an okay rookie season, but hadn't been able to recapture what he did his rookie season at Kansas City. Turned into a pretty good returner. So we're going to see. We're going to see early on, but I think Kyle's going to have to have one of his better seasons calling plays, Ocho. Juwan Jennings. Is Juwan Jennings still there? Yeah, he's there. I don't think he got the contract extension that he was looking for. Yeah. Damn. They got a lot of money tied up. They got a lot of money tied up in Purdy. They got a lot of money tied up in Christian McCaffrey. They got a lot of money tied up in Trent Williams.

29:09They got a lot of money tied up in Fred Warner.

29:13Shannon Sharpe:So the other corner, I forget his name. they got a lot of money tied up so they they got some money tied up oh kittle got money tied up and kittle he's not one uh the highest paid tight end so you can only play so many guys ocho yeah you're right but uh hopefully see mac and stay healthy i want to see him healthy married got a new i think is she had has she she had the baby right his wife she's had the baby christian mccaffrey's wife yeah i think she's had the baby

29:52god damn frog man making all that damn noise man

29:59okay the frog in the house nah they i can hear him outside man that doesn't sound like a god damn opera man yeah they're making uh the arrival of cam ward has created some optimism about the

30:11Shannon Sharpe:future what the future holds for the titans according to calvin ridley i can feel something in me it was like this kid is good and i got to be good i can't fall behind i've got uh i got to be a help i got to be a big help because it's time to dominate yeah i like it i like it listen listen when you when you when a quarterback when you get a quarterback like cam would they coming out and he throwing them dots at you you know when you're running short whether you're running immediate. You're going deep and you're putting them balls in the bucket on you like that. You got a chance to experience that not only through training camp, but hell, goddamn OTAs.

30:48Hold on. I got me one. I ain't had nothing like this outside when I was in Atlanta. With Matt Ryan. With Matt Ryan. But now I got this boy Cam. Man, stop playing, man.

31:00Shannon Sharpe:Man, you remember that last year he was in Atlanta, Ocho? That was going to be that one. Bad. Because that joke will stop on a dime. To be a big receiver and to get in and out of breaks like that? Yeah. Like you said, he'll rite your ass up. Quick and in a hurry. Quick and in a hurry. Yeah. I mean, he complete. Can run the tree. Can high point the ball. Great in and out of breaks. Run after the catch. I love Calvary. You know, Alabama had a run now. Right now, LSU. LSU kind of dominated. LSU and Ohio State dominating the receiver market. Alabama might be third, but there was a time, but they would be real hard.

31:43Shannon Sharpe:But right now, ain't nobody messing with LSU. LSU got it right now. LSU running away with it right now. They got one, two, and then you got probably like eight, nine, whatever you think Brian Thomas Jr. and neighbors are. Yeah, they run away with it right now. Yeah, baby. Maybe when Jeremiah Smith come out, it'll probably bring Ohio State a little closer to competing with LSU. But right now, LSU, hands down, 90%. Because you're getting Chase and Jenna about to go into their primes. Yeah. They're about to go into their primes. They going to dominate for a little while longer. The Jazz GM, Darren Moogie, believes Justin Fields can be the next late-blooming franchise quarterback, much like Baker Mayfield or Sam Darnold.

32:31Shannon Sharpe:I do believe Justin can be one of those guys. I've seen progress during camp and look forward to seeing the progress throughout the season as they all come together. Obviously, it's his third start in three years with three different coordinators and a lot of moving parts, so it does take time. But I like where he's at. I look forward to watching the progress, Ocho, over the course of four years. He's played for three different head coaches and offensive coordinators. I kind of like what he said but obviously the Baker Mayfield situation you understand the type of team he's around for him to be able to to have the resurgence that he's had when he was at Cleveland you know before he was at Cleveland before he was with the Panthers the team around him you know they they have a team around him that he can work with it's the right situation it just makes sense uh for Justin Field he also can be that quarterback as well but you guys have to make sure you continue to put the pieces around him.

33:27He has some right now. Yeah. You know, the breeze halls and the Garrett Wilson's and, and then Lazard and some of, some of the, the, the other people you have, but you have to continue to build around him and play to a strengths. Yep. I agree. That's it. And you can get exactly the situation that you're talking about when you buy into making sure your quarterback has all the tools necessary to succeed.

33:52Shannon Sharpe:You want me to win this war? or just give me the tools. That's all I need. Just give me the tools. If you want me to win, give me the tools. Hey, don't sit down there with a musket. Give me some drones. I need drones. Now, hey, I don't need no cannon. I don't need no cannonball. I need drones. I need stuff with GPS tracking. I need that high-grade U.S. military. Yeah. So I agree with you, Ocho. It's tough. Head coach, different head coach, with different systems year after year after year after year. You just want to get somewhere and feel comfortable. It's kind of like, you know, it's kind of like he'd been living in a hotel.

34:30Shannon Sharpe:You know, bro, I want to get someplace I can call home. Yeah. I just want to hear one. I just want to hear the same voice. Can I hear the same voice for two years in a row? Three years in a row? Can I do that? Same voice. Same system. Man, that would show be nice. I like it. But we'll see what he does. Ocho, tensions were high at the U.S. Open. Taylor Townsend defeated Latvia's Yelena Ostapenko. Townsend defeated the 25th-ranked Ostapenko, 7-5-6-1. After the match, Ostapenko confronted Townsend as they shook hands in the net while exiting the court. Townsend spoke about it, said it's competition.

35:06Shannon Sharpe:People get upset when they lose. Some people say bad things. She told me I have no class, no education. You can see what happens when we get outside the U.S. Ooh. Okay, that was – okay, I like that. I like that. That was – I mean – That's spicy talk. That's spicy talk. Not from what I understand and what I know about the situation. She's already beaten her outside of the U.S., if I'm not mistaken. I did my homework. So based on what she said and her comeback after losing at the U.S. Open, it didn't make any sense because I've already beat you outside the U.S. And you just have to understand on how to lose better.

35:44Gracefully. At sportsmanship and lose gracefully. You know, that's all. That's all. But this is good for the sport. this is good for the sport obviously everything when it comes to tennis is always about sportsmanship and no shaking hands and being nice let's have a little controversy let's have a controversy so those who don't watch the sport well hell taylor townsend got into it with somebody well i want to see what this young lady's all about well if you don't watch the sport you don't know who taylor townsend or your lane is but you're gonna know because it's on the news you're right because they had some type of and it's going to attract viewers to to watch tennis you know obviously you and I, we both watched the game of tennis.

36:20Yeah, yeah, yeah.

36:21Shannon Sharpe:I don't watch it as much as I used to, not if Serena stepped away from the game. Venus has stepped away from the game. I used to watch tennis a lot, lot, lot, lot, lot. But this was way back when they had, you know, when Steffi Graf and Monica Sellis and all those were really, really involved. Yeah. Gabriella Sabatini, you know. And then, you know, Serena came onto the scene Stosier and Clem Clijsters and Martina Hingis, Lindsey Davenport, Capriati. And then she came up with all this thing, talking about, well, what you're supposed to do, if you get one, if the ball hits the net and it bounces over, you're supposed to hold your racket up.

37:06Shannon Sharpe:I'm sorry. I'm sorry. That wasn't supposed to happen. And, you know, normally when you warm it up, you start at the back, you know, the baseline, and then you go to volley. Right. Taylor, I guess you said Taylor started with the volley first. Man, stop it. You found every – that ain't why you lost. Yeah, those must be unwritten rules in the game. They are. Because you see it a lot of times. If somebody hit the net and the ball goes over, you hold your racket up and say, I'm sorry, my bad, my bad. and you know like and you know you warm up from the baseline but then you know you as you you come in and so forth and so on bro okay so that's the right you so that's why you lost because she didn't acknowledge like oh i'm sorry my bad that that was you should have won that point i didn't she didn't do that oh because i i volleyed first instead of you know play i was at the net instead of baseline that's why you lost so that's why you lost no not at all no it wasn't stop that and then gonna talk hold on then you're gonna talk about you have no class no education like i said i don't know if she knows the stereotypes that's around americans so i don't know if there's a whole lot of black latvians so don't start me lying on you i ain't been serious man she should have known you don't know what you don't know right so he probably did i mean but you have to be careful that's why you have to be careful how you talk to people that's not native to your country or you're not in your country right because you don't know oh absolutely that's that's offensive absolutely that there's a racial undertone that she probably didn't even know.

38:42She knows. Well, it's 2025. She knows. Obviously, certain people feel they're superior to those in this case than Ms. Townsend, which is why the words that came out of your mouth is what was said. It's common sense. You know exactly what you're saying. No class, no education. You understand the undertone and what that means. I want to give it a benefit of doubt, Ocho. I want to give it a bit of doubt. Nah, nah, nah. We ain't giving it a bit of doubt. Hell nah, hell nah. We know exactly what we said. We know exactly what we said. Okay. Yeah.

39:16Shannon Sharpe:So you have to be mindful of how you talk to people in their country. I mean, I wouldn't go to, you know, Roland Gero. So I wouldn't go to the Aussie Open and say something, you know, because I don't know what's disrespectful something that we might think is innocent but i do know if i say somebody doesn't have class they don't have any education it don't matter what color you are disrespectful it don't matter what country you in and what language you say that in it's defensive everywhere you go but if you say that to the if in mr pinko's case right she said what she said being her color her complexion her race and she said that to miss townsend and her being her race yeah yeah yeah you got me man i don't but taylor said hey i let my racket do the talking that's it that's it i let my racket you're talking all that other you should have told her i'll see you at the next tournament yeah and you say something like that again this racket gonna be a toothpick because i'm gonna beat to a two-pick side joint.

40:32Shannon Sharpe:Now, let me stop that. It ain't going to be the... Now, hey, Taylor's like, you know what? I got a child. I think she got a child. Didn't she have a child recently? Yeah. So she's like, look, I ain't got time. I'm going to be a positive role model for my child. Right. And me getting into it, she held it very well because she pointed all in the face. Where they do that at? They do that at Lafayette? Yeah. We don't do that. You know how women... Ain't nobody finna let you just put their finger, even if it's competition. Ain't nobody finna just let you, especially tennis. I bet she wouldn't have did that to be old Reen.

41:06Shannon Sharpe:She wouldn't have did that to Reen her. Oh, they ain't play with Reen. Nah. Got a big Reen tell her, hey, don't you talk to me. You already have cost me a point. When the bulljive calls, don't you talk to me. I'm like, get a Reen. Get a Reen her.

41:27Shannon Sharpe:don't talk to me they were they were cheating rena lionsgate is holding a screening of the long walk oh i'm going i'm going uh uh where you have to walk three miles an hour or faster on a treadmill for the entire movie theaters have been retrofitted with treadmills if you stop you'll be escorted out of the theater and can't watch the rest of the film nah hell nah I like that you want to go no hell nah when I go to a movie I want to sit down and walk the name of the movie is called The Long Walk so ain't no movie on the show it's a movie on the screen right yeah the movie on the screen but in order to watch the movie we need you exercising and actually walking walking three miles an hour you walk with me while I sit there and eat my nachos nah you can walk and eat your nachos It's a gradual walk.

42:22Three miles an hour is comfortable. That's a good pace. Three miles an hour is fast. That's a good pace.

42:27Shannon Sharpe:Ocho, three miles an hour for probably like 70 to 90 minutes? Yeah, that's a good pace. Man, please. I ain't trying to walk, man. Man, listen, man. That ain't nothing. Three miles an hour? At least. It said at least. Yeah. No. I think it's interesting. I think it's fun. What about the long sit down? Where that movie at? that and that's that's why that's why we're obese that's me that's what i'm going for i'm going to the movie what's up what's that movie's not jordan ain't something in the movie now that i want to see yes highest the lowest oh yeah that's about to be on what you call them that's about to be streamed oh yeah on the fifth you ain't see it yet this is good man i ain't been to watch no harry potter here who oh you got a harry potter i said no i ain't into that kind of stuff no like there's gotta be something huh you're like harry potter i mean i've seen a couple of them but that ain't that ain't my thing oh no i ain't never seen i was just i was just curious i ain't never seen him either huh oh no superman i don't even know if i've seen one of them since uh crystal reeves

43:42Shannon Sharpe:oh no when the spider-man coming out they needed spider i watched spider-man or the hulk i'm watched by the man ain't marvel they all they got no movies coming out damn what a hero movie the other marvel movies anything with the joker anything with the joker i'm going to the movie theater anything with the joke i'm going to the movie theater after that heat leather after the Heath Ledger performance. Anything? And Joaquin Phoenix? I'm going to the theater. Anything with them two, I'm going. Well, obviously, Heath Ledger passing on. But if Joaquin Phoenix is playing the Joker, I'm there. I don't care.

44:18I like Bane. You're in charge. Yeah, that was dope. That was dope. Hey, who played Bane? What actor is that again? Hardy.

44:31Shannon Sharpe:Tom Hardy. Okay, okay, okay. Okay. A Michigan mother gave birth in a McDonald's parking lot on August 11th. And to honor the Golden Arches entrance to the world, the family now calls her Mac Tilly. When that girl get old, when she get old enough, she changing her name, call me Mac Tilly. No, not really. As a matter of fact, you know, as you get older, and you go get to junior high, get to high school, and she get to college, her name going to be Tilly. You know, they're going to take the mick off. They just called him McTilly. That's not a real name, won't you? Oh, okay, okay, my bad. I like that.

45:06That's a good nickname, McTilly. Huh?

45:09Shannon Sharpe:They changed it to McTilly. Lord, have mercy. See, her name will be Tilly. Do you understand the privilege? Do you understand the privilege it is to be born in a McDonald's parking lot? Do you understand what that means? I prefer the hospital. Not only to eat the food, but to be born in the parking lot, in the vicinity of those fries, of those burgers, of that smell, that aroma. please i kind of i kind of like the uh uh listerine and hospital smells nah nah pine salt on the floor that's the kind of smell i was going for nah but uh but i think oh choby it like in 2020 man you know ain't nobody naming no no merriam's no harriet no mac you know everybody getting these these like these modern names now Right.

46:00Absolutely. Names come with the times. Names come with the times. We need to go back to what people have three, two and three first first first names.

46:10Shannon Sharpe:Oh, yeah. Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary. I mean, like the 50s and 60s, everybody's name was long as hell. but you know the thing if me and my brother don't have nicknames don't have a middle name no no you got a middle name yeah chad javon johnson no me and my brother my mom gave my sister middle name but she didn't give us one oh so yeah i always wanted a middle name you think it's too late for me to get a middle name now ah you go time to the courthouse don't call number 20. What's my middle name going to be? Huh? What's my middle name going to be? Stacks? Nah. They got a stack.

46:56Shannon Sharpe:Steven Jackson stacks. Okay, okay. What's my middle name? What would be a good middle name for me? That's a good question. Hell no.

47:08Shannon Sharpe:No. No. How you going to have Shannon Lamont? Shannon Lamont Sharp? Nah. Guess what? A middle name don't even fit me. When you think about it, I done 57 years and not have a middle name? I ain't got no middle name.

47:33Shannon Sharpe:Oh, well. I guess Ocho, the age-old's question who should pay on a first date has been reignited a 20 year old woman took to reddit to share her dating experience saying we got burgers fries to share i ordered uh to cover the tip i offered to cover the tip since he paid for the meal okay he accepted and everything seemed fine until the next morning this morning i woke up to a venmo request for three dollars and 25 cent with a note half the fries

48:13really hold on so okay i'm confused he just wanted his money back he was trying to split

48:18Shannon Sharpe:everything down the middle then huh yes okay offered to pay he offered to pay for the meal okay she left the tip okay they agreed right then she get a venmo and she got a venmo request the next morning for 325 with a note half the fries man y 'all doing too much yeah y 'all just y 'all just y 'all just want y 'all just want something for us to talk about yeah they they they doing a Come on now. Ain't nobody come on. I can see, Ocho, if it was a$200 meal, and you say, okay, we're going to split it. But for fries, you got to go half on fries, bro. Hey, you need to get out the Dayton market. See, that's why I'm so glad to be out the game, man, so I don't have to play these games.

48:58I don't have to deal with those problems. I don't have to deal with those issues. It's unfortunate. It's unfortunate. Everybody, there's always a discourse on 50-50 and going 80. and say I'm like my goodness like it's ridiculous it's ridiculous it's the dating pool as most people say it has piss in it I don't know why they say that I think they just try to date with unrealistic unrealistic expectations in general and nobody wants to act their ways nobody wants to act their ways let alone date within their bracket they always want the this this

49:35Shannon Sharpe:y 'all just going with the old names man Oh, they still going with the names? Yeah. They talking about Lamont. They talking about Bucky. I see that. I like that Shannon Cleophus. Cleophus. That's that old school.

49:55Roosevelt. I like that. I like that Roosevelt.

50:00Shannon Sharpe:That Roosevelt is perfect. Hell no. According to New York Times bestselling author and CEO, yo, if you give these three kiss of death answers to a question asked by a hiring manager, you're doomed saying, I want to start my own business someday. Saying you value work-life balance. Saying you were let go as part of a company's recent layoffs.

50:25I've never had any of those problems.

50:26Shannon Sharpe:If you're working for someone, you can have work-life balance. You don't have a choice. But if you're doing your own thing, ain't no work-life balance. No. you can't have work-life balance now once you get to jeff bezos level or you get the elon musk level or you get that but ask them did they have work-life balance in the beginning or you get bill gates or steve barm or some of these wealthy guys they might have work-life balance now right and the the objective is is to like do what you do what you have to until you can do what you want to Right. So there will become a time if you if everything works out in your favor, you can get that balance.

51:09Shannon Sharpe:But not in the beginning. If you starting your own thing. Yeah. I mean, because most of the time if you work for somebody else, Ochoa. You know, hey, you get Saturday and Sunday's off. Right. Unless, you know, you work in the sports field. Now, people kill me. They get into the sports field and talk about, man, we got to work holidays. Yeah. Sports events happen on holidays. Right. Right. It happens on weekends. You're going to be away from your family. If I tell a kid, okay, now you, man, I want to do, really? That's what you want to do? You do realize when sporting events take place, right? Yeah.

51:42Shannon Sharpe:You do realize, I say, are you okay being away from your family on Christmas, on Thanksgiving, to cover said events and do things like, are you okay with that? Yeah. Well, you know, I come from a family. I say, okay, well, no, no, you're not, because you tell me where you come from.

51:59Shannon Sharpe:good luck telling your boss you know uh you in the sports business talking about no you know i i can't work holidays yeah yeah okay all right that's that's what i'm saying i'm saying okay let me know how that turns out for you all right ocho time for our final segment of the evening it's time for q and a i'm ready for tomorrow's show that's what i'm ready for i know i'm jumping the gun but texas and Ohio State play tomorrow, but I'm ready. Kimber Norwood Jr. said, Unc, my question is, how many sacks will Micah have when they play Dallas week four? Six. Well, you know they're going to try to save, but he doesn't play the run, so they're going to try to run the ball at him, Ocho, to try to slow him down.

52:44Shannon Sharpe:And the thing is, Micah's going to be hype because he want to prove, say, hey, guess what y 'all? He's going to be on one now. Cowboys, you better be on your best behavior. you better be on your best behavior. It's too late now. It's too late. All that stuff Jerry said to him, all that going to the media, oh, we got better. Man, Michael might have 10 sacks that damn game. I would say 2.5. Aaron Owen said, trading Michael is wild, but if you feel like you have to trade him, you have to get Lucas Van Ness and an extra pick as well. Dallas most definitely lost this trade well there's nobody there's nobody you could trade for that would make the trade equivalent because no one else is giving up a player in their goddamn prime at 26 year old who's one of the top three at their position so they were going to lose this trade no matter what no matter how you get it no matter what you get for it because those first round picks you do have ain't no telling who you're going to get and ain't no telling promising that they're going to turn out to be what you think?

53:53Shannon Sharpe:Right. So we have to see who they draft and what those picks turn into. Now Jerry said, look, we got two first round draft picks. Who'd you say we don't package those and go get somebody else?

54:05Shannon Sharpe:That's what Jerry said. I'm just telling you what Jerry said. That's what he said. Now, if it's a lie, he told it. Lonzi underscore XO. Is it safe to say that Michael Parsons is a phenomenal player, but Aiden Hutchinson still has an edge over him statistically?

54:22Shannon Sharpe:We'll find out. What age would that be? I don't know. Your guy's coming off a serious injury. Now, he got a steel rod in his plate. He says, hey, it's heel. It ain't going no place. He is a phenomenal – he has a motor. Yeah. No denying that. He was on his plate. Hell, he was about to be defensive player of the year before he ended up breaking his leg.

54:46Shannon Sharpe:But Michael has done something that only Reggie White can say. at least 12 and a half sacks the first four years of the NFL. Anytime you're in a category with Reggie, you're pretty good. Doing something right. You're doing pretty good. James Anderson said Parsons and Cooper, double gap blitz coming. They ain't going to have the blitz. They got Rashawn Gary on one side. They got Mike on the other. You got to do nothing. Just sinfo. Hey, that's it. Sinfo. Hey, DTs. just collapse the pocket. Push him to us. OG underscore Thanos was of Ocho. Which trade will have more impact on their teams? Mavis trading away Luka and Dallas?

55:32Shannon Sharpe:Excuse me. Mavis trading away Luka or Dallas trading or the Cowboys trading away Micah?

55:47Look.

55:47Shannon Sharpe:I'm always going to take the guy that got the ball in his hands. So, Luka? That's what I said. Which would impact more, trading a quarterback or trading, you know, a defensive guy? No, quarterback. He got the ball.

56:08Shannon Sharpe:And I think the thing is, I don't believe Micah wanted to be traded. Well, he wanted to be traded once they were going to – must they try to make him play on that fifth year option? yeah michael wanted to be traded luca had no idea i'm talking about zero luca did not want to leave dallas did not that would be the that would be almost the equivalent of them trading uh uh joe burrow out of the blue or trade you know trading somebody like that you know what i'm saying no Right, right. Like, what the hell? You got a guy in his prime and you trading? Mm-hmm. That's crazy. That's crazy. Players like this at this age that are this good, this rarely happens.

56:55Rarely happens, huh?

56:57Shannon Sharpe:Yes. Feds NJ said, Jerry declines Micah. Did not unsurprised. Lakers in five. Undecided said, if somebody said to me, wait until you get outside the U.S. I would have taken that as a threat and then said, let's handle it right here.

57:21Shannon Sharpe:That boy, KS Purr, said, got a middle name for you, Unc, Shannon Bartholomew. Ah, Bartholomew, that's a good one. What did you call him? You used to call me that Autumn, a wardrobe used to call me Bartholomew. And my wife called me pissed at the Colorado game like I did watch the same game she did.

57:43Yeah.

57:45Shannon Sharpe:East Coast Cavs said Prime needs to let offensive coordinator go. In fact, send him to the transfer portal. Yeah, that was – that was – they left a lot to be desired tonight, Ocho, on both sides of the ball. But I was really, really disappointed with the defense, giving up 320 yards, rushing on 47 attempts, three touchdowns. Quarterback put you up by seven late in the ballgame with a 45-yard run. That was not good. Thank you for joining us for another episode of Nightcap. We greatly, greatly appreciate that. Y 'all know me. I'm your favorite Uncle Shannon Sharp.
