In short
The episode covers four sports topics: (1) whether the Arizona Cardinals should trade rookie star WR Marvin Harrison Jr. after a slow start (1 catch in two games). Guests debate coach Mike LaFleur’s comments about Harrison not being the focal point, arguing a fourth overall pick should be a primary target and that Harrison’s body language/confidence look off. They suggest a “change of scenery” and note Trey McBride’s all-pro production and Michael Wilson/Kendrick Bourne’s roles as reasons Harrison is being sidelined. (2) Joe Burrow’s love of hostile road crowds, including the satisfaction of silencing opposing fans. (3) Seattle Seahawks “Spygate”-style controversy: Mike McDonald says Sean Payton threatened public accusations after Seahawks used publicly available training-camp tape; McDonald later regretted including the exchange. (4) Kevin Durant pushing back on Rockets minute limits; also discussion of Travis Hunter’s increased offensive packages.

2:01Shannon Sharpe:Execs around the league are wondering whether the Arizona Cardinals could explore trading Marvin Harrison Jr. ahead of the NFL trade deadline. Harrison, the number four pick in the 2024 draft, but only has one catch thus far this season. Here's Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur with some interesting comments on getting Marvin more involved in the passing game. Great question. Because I know that's, it's like, well, just get some easy completions to get going. And it's, that's fine. You also have Trey McBride, who's one of the best underneath guys in the world. And there's only about 60 to 65 plays a game.
2:39And you got to run the ball. And you got to, you know, and you got Kendrick who works underneath pretty well, too. So everyone's kind of got their role right there. Doesn't mean that we won't this week if we think that's what's best in terms of, you know, working them underneath. but that's not what we thought it was best through the first two weeks.
2:59Joe Johnson:I don't like that. I don't like that at all. Especially from a player, Uncle Joe, that went high as Marvin Harrison did. But basically what you're telling me is he's not a value. He's not an asset. There are other players right now, being that Marvin Harrison Jr. isn't playing with much confidence, he's mentioned other players that can do the same thing that Marvin Harrison should be in position to do. being the number four pick. He should be the one, the focal point of those passes, of those plays, especially being in his, what, third year, right? This is the third year. Yeah, this is your make it or break it year.
3:34Joe Johnson:At this point, you should be the focal point of the offense. Matter of fact, as the fourth pick in the draft, you should be better than Trey McBride, even as good as Trey McBride is, based on you going that high. I just, I don't like the way Coach answers that, not like at all, and right now, based on what I've seen from Marvin Harrison Jr. His body language is not there. One catch in two games? Man. That makes absolutely no sense, but I kind of get it. Why it is the way it is? He just hasn't looked like himself since in the league. Yeah. He hasn't looked like himself at all, Joe. I don't know what's going on.
4:13I don't like how Coach, how LaFleur said that,
4:17Chad Johnson:you know, he put it on McBride. like bro it's how many positions he said like 60 70 you mean to him you mean to tell me four five targets can't go to heck man come on man come on man like i i i don't know i'll go with y 'all i don't know how they're getting more involved uh you know i don't know if it's the weight gain of marvin harrison but i thought he was a hell of a talent coming out of ohio state you want to see him at this stage at this point in his career two games in he ain't got but one catch come on bro
4:48Joe Johnson:that's crazy and they say oh that's what if you want to get a play of the ball joe they can scheme you open they can create plays for you just to get you touches i agree every team can do that
5:01Shannon Sharpe:they just don't want to look i i why wouldn't they want to i think the thing is guys is that he went there and trey mcbride caught fire all pro season he's the best tight end of football So, but damn, and then he's like, okay, yeah, okay, I'll be number two. Boom, Michael Wilson catch five. Now guess what, Ocho, you third. So you the fourth pick of the draft, you go from going to be, think you gonna be number one, not only you're not number one, you're not number two. And then this man mentioned, I think Kendrick, he said Bourne, Kendrick Bourne? He like, Junior probably said, hold on now, come on now.
5:44Shannon Sharpe:Come on now.
5:48Joe Johnson:That's tough.
5:49Shannon Sharpe:It is. It is. You know, and Senior was critical of the offense. Like, bro, you know, he doesn't want to say too much because he is Marvin Harrison Senior. And then everything, he'll say, well, and remember, remember when a family member or a loved one speaks publicly, they automatically assume it came from the player. It came from the little one. Yeah. Yeah. It can, bro, I can't speak for myself. Yeah, you can, but you speaking for him. He done told you something. She done told you something. That's why, you know, you have to be mindful what you say publicly because everybody's going to deduce.
6:30Shannon Sharpe:If I'd have said something publicly, Oh, Sterling told him that. If he said something publicly, Shannon told him that. So I just, I, he's in a very, very, very tough situation because like you said, Ocho, he was viewed as a can't-miss prospect. He's the fourth pick in the draft. That guy, by the way, he was supposed to be chased. He was supposed to be doing with Jetta. He's supposed to be doing with those guys. Now, if Jetta went later in the teens, Chase was, I think, the fifth pick in the draft. I think he's fifth. Yes. That's the type of projection that people had for Marvin Harrison Jr. A JSN.
7:20Shannon Sharpe:He's supposed to be like that. Yeah. Especially this year, because remember, JSN took off his third year. Well, he had 100 catches, I think his second year. He went haywire the third year. Chase started from day one. Jenna started from day one. But as a fourth overall pick, Ocho, you're supposed to be that boy dog now. Hey, that boy. And it doesn't help you a junior. And everybody know what your dad did.
7:55Joe Johnson:Yeah, and those expectations and having to fill those shoes, those are big shoes to fill, Joe. He's in the Hall of Fame.
8:03Shannon Sharpe:He's one of the top 100 players in the history of the game. Yes. and to make matters worse maybe if your name was David Harrison ain't nobody know but you Marvin Harrison Jr people remember Marvin Harrison senior mm-hmm hey it ain't too late for him to you know to get on the right track you got to get the ball though first Joe hey yeah and if they not throwing
8:27Joe Johnson:in the ball if they not scheming you open to get you the ball if you're struggling to be able to get open on your own you know when they want you to and when they do throw you the ball if you're dropping it. Yeah, you know the ball stop coming. Yes. It's
8:38Shannon Sharpe:just like a running back. Oh, Joe, if a running back form of all what they do, they snatch it. That your ass up out of there. Yeah, you remember a even day hearing they start giving it up off for a while didn't they Ocho, bro, you put the ball on the ground too much, but you're hurting.
8:54Joe Johnson:And he took them sleeves right off. I told you. Oh, yeah, everything next day. He had his sleeves on. You can't feel it all. I think maybe maybe for marvelous that marvelous and harrison jr i mean chat you can let me know what you think on the joe i think it's time for maybe a change of scenery really if this is hey listen that your year three is you're making a breaking year yeah he's supposed to be like unc said he's supposed to be the jamar chase or the jettas he's supposed to be coming to a enormous deal at the end of this season and he i mean i i don't know man it's i think a change of scenery is needed his body language doesn't look good he's a quiet quiet kid he doesn't he doesn't he doesn't show he doesn't show emotions or anything like that so it's hard to tell what he's feeling you know or how he feels but his play yeah isn't what it should be i agree ocho i'm saying you got a destination in mind
9:48Chad Johnson:ocho oh you got a couple couple teams just a change of scenery in general yeah that's the only thing i can think of where i have no idea i don't know he a hell of a talent though I know the numbers don't really show, you know, especially this year since he's been in the league. But you could be right, Ocho. A change of scenery could put a little spark on him.
10:09Shannon Sharpe:But if you ain't going to throw in the ball, what the hell you got him for? You named all these other guys. So you contend with Trey McBride and Michael Wilson? Okay, fine. And, hey, Michael Wilson, Ocho, we talked about this last year. He balled out his damn mind. We know what Trey McBride did. So if you're not going to throw him – look, the fourth pick in the draft can't be the third option that's all i'm saying i don't i don't know i don't know where you can go with joe we can have that discussion at a later date in time joe i just know the fourth pick in the draft can't be your third option and the way it sounded like he was the first option because he mentioned kendrick born said he could do some of the same things that marvin harrison you can do
10:50Joe Johnson:why would you even say that thank you very much i would even mention that when the question is about
10:54Chad Johnson:man don't get me started yeah get you started who the hell got this ac on man that's all i'm saying
11:01Shannon Sharpe:joe i mean you you you tell me you want me to do this well i can only do that if you give me the rocker put me in position to get plays yeah i know he's struggling he's lost so many of his confidence because he dropped a few passes some passes that's difficult catches that you expect him being who he is where he was drafted to make those plays and he hadn't make those plays yet and I agree with Ocho hey move him let him go somewhere else to get a fresh start maybe the stench in there is suffocating and he just need to go somewhere else get him a fresh start where you smell nothing with some pie and light salt hey I don't know what y 'all used to clean I have a pie and salt you know what I said I like that old pie and salt
11:51Joe Johnson:I remember them days
11:52Chad Johnson:Yeah, but I'm with y 'all. Maybe they should trade him, change his scenery. Because LaFleur didn't act like he was willing to try to get him going. He didn't say, yeah. We're going to make sure we get him involved. We're going to make sure we... I'm like, damn. He mentioned what everybody else could do.
12:12Shannon Sharpe:He mentioned nothing. So what is he good at? A lot of times, the coach's job, his number one job is to lie to you. is to make you think you can do something that you can't.
12:25Joe Johnson:That's a good one.
12:27Shannon Sharpe:That's the whole objective of the coach. A coach got to be able to get something out of you that you don't think you got in you. And he can extract it. Sometimes it takes him lying. Boy, Ocho, I know you're going to like this dude. Man, that dude's going to tell Ocho ass. Boy, I know Ocho. Ocho, you got him on this one now, right? Ocho started like, oh, no. Oh, Ocho, we giving you the rock. Hey, we believe. Then Ocho's like, you believe? Oh, yeah, I got him, Coach. I got him. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Coach. That's the one. That's it right now. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Hey, man. Hey, Coach said he come to me on Sunday.
13:04Shannon Sharpe:Coach told me to be ready. So, now I got Ocho believing in Ocho. Sometimes you have to convince them. Because it's easy to lose confidence. Everybody want to tell you the story. Yeah, there have been some self-doubt in certain areas. Some areas you're strong. I never doubted. Let me tell you what I didn't doubt. My ability, things that I could control. Now, when it came to talking women, I was like, I couldn't control whether she liked me or not. So it made me apprehensive about, because I didn't want to hear rejection. I didn't want to say, no, you can't have my number. No, I don't want to go out.
13:39Shannon Sharpe:No, I don't want to see you. I couldn't control that. But on the football field, you got, you lying to me.
13:49Joe Johnson:tell you hey i i had an answer for both of those i had an answer for that on the field and i had an answer for for dealing with rejection uncle joe yes sir damn never been rejected boy i'm 100 for 100.
14:02Shannon Sharpe:yeah yeah and i think the thing is that you know you could feel a certain way and i was telling somebody today i i was always i think maybe because the way i was brought up and i didn't really have a whole lot is that you know my grandmother my my grandparents they're raised that boy you're not better than anybody but this is what I always tell people I don't think I'm better than anybody because of who I am and what I've done what I what I got I think I can do what I do better than anybody else can do what they do best whatever you think you can do I can do what I do better than what you can do that's how I think that's how I've always thought no I'm not better than you because I'm Shannon Sharp but because I'm I'm pro bowl and rings and hall of fame and we got top podcast no that doesn't make me better than you I just think that I can do what I do better than what you can do hello that's it so when it came to something that I could control which was how hard I play how hard I focus how disciplined I was I never doubted that for a second people like man you ain't know I mean you would it's a banner state what they got to do with anything I don't know if y 'all notice they got planes that leave from Savannah that'll take you anywhere in the damn world.
15:20Shannon Sharpe:So just because I wasn't in Atlanta or went to a big school, guess what? Them scouts, they put a lot of miles on rental cars, Ocho, going to all different types of places, don't they?
15:33Chad Johnson:Hey, hey, hey, you can be over there playing under that damn bridge over there. They gonna come find you. If you good. They gonna come find you. They gonna find you. They gonna find you. I don't care what you at.
15:43Shannon Sharpe:So I just think the thing is maybe you're right. Maybe you're right. Maybe it's just time for him to get a fresh start somewhere else.
15:54Shannon Sharpe:Because I needed a coach to say, you know what? We need to do a better job of getting in the ball. I know he's working his tail off. I know he wants to help. I know he wants to contribute to help this team win. And this is why we selected with the fourth overall pick. But you're telling us what everybody else can do. Ain't nobody ask you about Trey McBride. We know what Trey McBride is. He's the best tight end in football. He was an all-pro. Had 120-something catches. The most catches by a tight end in NFL history. We didn't ask you about him. Ain't nobody ask you about Mike Wilson. Ain't nobody ask you about Kendrick Bourne.

16:30Shannon Sharpe:I think it's Kendrick Bourne that he referenced. I could be wrong. So, Chad, if I'm wrong, I apologize. Okay. We ask you about Marvin Harrison Jr. And you gave us a whole different – it's like somebody ask you about your lady and you talk about boy Halle Berry got some pretty skin, don't you? B, ain't nobody ask you about Halle Berry. They ask you about your old lady. And you tell us about what you like about somebody else. Right. Got a trick for you. Yeah. Hey, listen.
16:59Chad Johnson:I bet you some teams who definitely want to use them, though. Yeah. Who could use them. There's some teams who could definitely use them, OK, Ocho.

20:11Shannon Sharpe:Joe Burrow said he loves playing on the road almost as much as he loved playing at home. Let's take a listen to what Joe B had to say. The older, wild, hostile environment. I've always loved playing on the road.
20:24Joe Johnson:I've always enjoyed that almost more than playing at home. Just like you can feed off of your home crowd's energy, you can feed off of an away crowd's energy too, positively and negatively. There's no better feeling than scoring a big touchdown on the road and getting really quiet, but you can still hear a couple of the Bengals fans in the stands. So hopefully we have a couple of those. Yeah, I like that. It don't matter. We'll be playing that. Huh? Home all way. And the funny thing about it is I kind of dig what Joe was saying, but it's crazy to hear that from a quarterback, especially with all the noise that goes on in away games in hostile environments.
21:06Joe Johnson:As a receiver, I enjoy the hostile environment, Joe, simply because I feed off that energy, and I like doing the trash talking not only to the players, but to the fans as well when I'm on the bench.
21:16Chad Johnson:Yeah.
21:17Joe Johnson:I enjoy that. I enjoy turning around, you know, going back and forth. And don't let me be playing well. Oh, man, listen here, man. Hey, I'll score Joe, and I'll keep the ball, and I'll hand it to one of their fans. You know, I signed it in the hand of, man, Joe, I used to be having a good time out there, boy.
21:35Chad Johnson:Yeah, yeah. Ain't nothing like shutting up the opposing fans in their own house. I'm talking about the whole stadium rocking. I'm talking about they over 20, 25, 30 ,000. I'm talking about they going crazy. When you shut them up, when they can't say nothing,
21:53Shannon Sharpe:there's no better feeling. You have a good game. I ain't got to have no good game. My team just need to win. Yeah. Damn a good game. I ain't got to do nothing. But don't let me, I'm really go, oh, I told people all this. If you couldn't know. What? I'm a sore loser, but I'm a worse winner. You don't want me to win. I'm the last mofo you want to win. Right. Look at some of the sound, but I was telling them, if you leave now, you'll get a head start on traffic. This went over. I don't want anybody to get caught in a traffic jam. I don't know what you waiting here for. Y 'all want to see us celebrate?
22:32Shannon Sharpe:Oh, man, please. Ain't nothing like that, boy. Y 'all already know one of the most viral clips. I called a president. That was in New England. Yeah. Yeah, I called a president. Hey, we need the National Guard. We killing these folks. We need as many, many as you can spare. I promise you. Oh, man, don't let, like I said, I'm a very, very sore loser. I'm an absolute worst winner.
23:00Chad Johnson:Hey, hey, hey, and it's really bad when the fans are really heckling you. Yeah. And I'm talking about you mess around and go off. Yeah.
23:09Joe Johnson:Hey, Joe, you ever had an opportunity to play in front of Spike Lee? Spike used to ever talk trash to you?
23:16Chad Johnson:He may have said something, but it wasn't necessarily trash. You know, when you play in the garden, Ocho, hell, he going to be at every game. You know what I mean? It's going to be star-studded in that. That's probably one of my favorite places to play, honestly. Just from the ambiance, the atmosphere, the fanatics of fans, you know, when they show up, it don't matter. Knicks ain't even got to be good, Ocho. Or they going to be in there regardless. Man, what are you talking about? Them folks showing up, boy.
23:42Joe Johnson:Yeah, I'm thinking about Spike, the way Spike be going at it, the way he went at it with Reggie Miller.
23:46Chad Johnson:Oh, yeah.
23:47Joe Johnson:I would love that.
23:49Chad Johnson:Iconic moment. Went at it with Kobe, too?
23:51Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Kobe told him, say, you caused this. When Kobe put up, I feel like, you called him. You just got to shut up.
23:59Chad Johnson:Yeah. But y 'all know when them boys go play in Madison Square Garden, I'm talking about the Colbys, the Jordans, the LeBrons. They trying to put on the show. I don't care how you cut or slice. I'm talking about every time they go in there, they trying to put on the show. So for the fact that the Sixers and the Knicks play game one, man, I'm going to be trying to make a statement.
24:20Shannon Sharpe:Because it's an iconic building.
24:22Chad Johnson:Yes, sir.
24:23Shannon Sharpe:Even though you know you talk about the garden that's a different garden that ain't the same as Boston Madison Square Garden is the same Madison Square Garden that they played in the 1970s the 1980s You see they don't play at the farm anymore. They're in Staples and that's called a crib So a lot of these buildings, you know, Chicago, they got a new state. They got a new they got a new arena The garden is the garden. That's what makes Lambeau feel. That's what makes soldier feel that's what makes them so special those are the same places they've been playing in for damn near 100 years oh everybody else got new stadiums Ocho so look we were talking about the Raiders Oakland yeah it's the Raiders Las Vegas Raiders ain't nothing like the Coliseum man please nothing like that nothing nothing nothing them fans are really crazy I mean Joe those fans are lunatic yeah
25:25Joe Johnson:that black hole something wrong with them folk boy
25:30Shannon Sharpe:old town let me tell you about my city old town they go crazy man they go crazy in there but I'm with Joe there's nothing like shutting up the opposing crowd there's no better feeling and I've been You know, go to the Super Bowl, Ocho. We beat Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh. We beat Oakland in Oakland. Man, and to have it wasn't nobody in there, but Bronco fans. Wasn't no one there but Ravens fans. The all the silver black gone. No, come back. Hey, hey, where y 'all going? Y 'all supposed to watch us celebrate. Oh, you thought y 'all were gonna celebrate? Come on back here and see. Hey. Oh, man. I'm going crazy.
26:19Shannon Sharpe:I'm going crazy. Because now, all that talking. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Hey, Big Mouth. You. No, no, no, no. Shut up.
26:29Chad Johnson:Yeah.
26:29Shannon Sharpe:You.
26:30Chad Johnson:Yeah. I thought.
26:34Shannon Sharpe:You thought y 'all was. How that sound? How that look? Yeah. Man. The Steely was so hurt. Because, Ocho, I don't know if you really played. Did you play in the All Three Rivers? No, you play the highest feel, huh? The old three rivers, Ocho. The stadium, the seats did this. They bounced. Damn. Yes. For real? Oh, Ocho. And all the, you see that. So just imagine the terrible towel originated in three rivers. I think the guy was my man. They'd be waving them towers, that stadium bouncing. I said, oh, we got ourselves into now. And now, we done got the lead, we bilking the clock, everybody threw them terrible towels on the ground.
27:24Shannon Sharpe:Pick them terrible towels up, wipe your nose, and get your ass up out of here. That ain't no better feeling, Joey B. You right about that one. It ain't. It's just something about shutting opposing crowd up. Ain't nothing like it.
27:37Chad Johnson:It is, it feels so good too. Especially when you get a dub, you get a dub in there.
27:43Shannon Sharpe:I'm sorry guys. I mean, I'm sorry about, uh, oh, it's not Heinz Field anymore. It's Accenture. I'm sorry. I, I, it was Heinz Field when I was, when I played the Steelers there. Uh, like I was just making reference to the old, uh, what is it now? Accenture. I think they said Accenture. Accenture. Okay. Accenture. Okay. That's different. Yeah. Barry. In a video that's... 31:11Shannon Sharpe:You seem to be off the record with Graham Bessinger. Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike McDonald said Broncos head coach Sean Payton threatened to accuse Seattle of Spygate-style cheating. Listen to this, guys. casual so funny story about uh sean payton and me is my first year i like sean a lot he uh i'm not his biggest he's oh he's not my biggest fan all right uh so our first year and so we play them the our first game uh-huh and so like you know i'm like well you know whatever it's a fans watch they you know fans will like tape or like post plays from training camp on twitter uh-huh and so it's like public right now so we took like a hundred plays from their training camp we're like scouting them you know and like anyways so he got wind of it and he like lost him it's like middle of the season and like and we're and we won the game so like and we're and we were in the fight like our first year we were trying to a lot going on and so he called johnny He basically threatened to come out publicly and do a whole Patriot, like, Spygate type of thing.
32:23Yeah. And I'm sitting there like, oh, my God. I'm like, we didn't cheat. We thought it was a Michigan thing where we had a plant and the whole thing. And we're like, so we had to counter with him to say, hey, look, if you come out of this, we're going to sue you because it's not true. Right. And did you ever talk to him? So he backed down, but he was killing John, our GM. and uh john was telling me like dude did you i'm like dude no like what are you crazy like i'm not we're not that's not how we do business you know in the statement mcdonald said it's something
32:56Shannon Sharpe:that was not intended for public use i reached out to sean it's a lesson learned i have a better uh i have to be better in that moment i'm responsible for what i say i fell short in that moment it stings me it's something i'm going to learn graham messenger you see he released the
33:12Joe Johnson:statement we got the statement there as someone that I'm confused I'm what do you mean it's not for public consumption that you're on it you're on it you're on a show with Graham messenger and
33:24Shannon Sharpe:that's the whole point but I think the thing before they actually started taping oh so Graham he released it anyway yes and as somebody that's in this space Ojo anything that we say before we go we go live is off the record you got to say off the record you got to say anything that you say you say you know what can you do me a favor you know I said xyz can you take we take it out
33:53we don't try to put anybody in a bad light people say what they said I'm like oh you okay you okay
34:01Shannon Sharpe:because what we do most of the time on Joe we'll re-release it in its entirety that's why I'll the club Shay Shay their hour to 30 to 53 hours because we're releasing this it's his entirety because if we don't want anybody to say what they edited this out or they had no no no no no no that's what you said so you have to be careful like I don't know why he would put that in there because I clearly but that's why you got to be careful if you do this long enough Joe when you're on television ESPN and undisputed hey you want to say something I'm covering my mic and I'm talking because I don't know what it might not be go out over the airway but it might be used at a later date and time so you cook you a you cover that mic or you cut your mic off yeah lesson learned but I don't know I don't know why they would release this when clearly he the way I'm looking at it I don't think because he says look I want to tell you a funny story you see I almost whispered it oh Joey Joe clearly you know that's not for public consumption go ahead guys you know they want they want to clickbait bro i don't understand why they
35:12Chad Johnson:were posting i don't understand either because you know the type of pictures is going to paint and how it's going to make him look you know what i mean so to post that you like man i don't give a damn for real that's what it seemed like to me i'll get no joke because he gonna have to take the backlash from this bro yeah yeah i mean it it'll probably blow over but the fact that it's
35:35Joe Johnson:out uh obviously it's added fuel to the fire now it's gonna it's gonna it's gonna get uh legs of its own you know now that this is out so he's gonna have to deal with he's gonna have to deal with the with the storm for a little bit maybe maybe two three four days and then listen they'll
35:50Chad Johnson:be on to the next topic hold on because that that's cheating that man said they took some of
35:55Shannon Sharpe:they plays he said like he said they took some of they plays and studied them uh a grand messenger released a statement as you can see put the statement back up as you would y 'all could y 'all can you put the statement back up he really you know tried to clarify clarification
36:14Joe Johnson:that's long
36:18I can't
36:19Joe Johnson:even see that
36:27Shannon Sharpe:coach McDonald reached out to me directly yesterday morning expressing concern I immediately told him we would remove the portion, and we did. Unfortunately, it had already been clipped. And from our interview by online outlets and circulated elsewhere, I told Coach that in hindsight, I regretted allowing the exchange to be included and that it was my error in judgment. I have tremendous respect for Coach, and we spent significant time together in Seattle, and I came away impressed not only by what he has accomplished in such a short period of time, but by the person he is. the last thing I wanted was one exchange to overshadow the story.
37:02Shannon Sharpe:I have a great respect for Sean Payton, who had an opportunity profile as well. Bro. The whole interview might not be, look, y 'all know, I did I think the cat interview was what, 248 Jordan? Two hours and 48 minutes. I guarantee y 'all can tell me, y 'all can't tell me all 248, but I know y 'all can tell me certain clips which overshadowed the the pod catcher. Hello. Same thing with Monique. Monique was 255. Y 'all can't tell me everything Monique said, but y 'all know the important snippets. You know what this was going to be. To accuse someone of a Spygates type. Yeah.
37:48Joe Johnson:Honestly, stuff like that, especially someone like that, like Graham, who's been doing this for a very long time, you know what should go out and what shouldn't. For sure. you agree and you green light everything that's supposed to go out. So you understood the ramifications if it did get out what it would cause especially wouldn't be in a coach implying that another coach cheated. No, it was going to have sure.
38:12Shannon Sharpe:I always ask before I sit down. Oh, Joe, you've been on the pod. I said, is there anything you don't want to discuss? Because I feel anybody sit down with me. Oh, Joe and Joe. Yeah, you can tell your story because I feel for the fact that you're sitting across from me. I think you have an interesting story. I believe you can tell your story without revealing your most elatious detail. Your most embarrassing moment. You want to cut it out? If you want to talk about it, you can talk about it. If not, boom. Some people say, well, I don't want to talk about this. Boom. Some people say, bro, I'm an open book.
38:48Shannon Sharpe:Ask me to wait. Sometimes we already done two and a half hours. That's it. They want to keep on talking.
38:57Joe Johnson:Yeah, we waiting on you, Joe.
39:00Chad Johnson:Man, why you, come on, man, chill, bro.
39:03Joe Johnson:Yo, we waiting on your club, Jay Shea, man. Hey, and you gotta be an open book, like I was. Hey, everything in green light. What would y 'all wanna talk about? From kindergarten.
39:12Chad Johnson:How you gonna tell me how I need to move, though? That's what I'm saying. How you gonna tell me how I need to move?
39:17Joe Johnson:Because the people need to know your story, Joe. Huh? From A to Z, Joe. We don't know, skip no letter.
39:25Chad Johnson:All right. All right. They're here one day, Ocho. Okay. Okay. Well, don't wait too long now.
39:31Shannon Sharpe:All right. All right. Yeah, but I don't know. Like I said, I think Graham's been doing this a long time. He knows. Yes. Look, I haven't been doing it as long as he has. But I know basically within – after I'm done with the interview, I already know what clip we're going to lead out with. Hello. Right. And I haven't been doing it nearly as long as him. If I want to get somebody to listen to the entire interview, what am I going to do? I'm going to lead out my best clip. If I want to catch a big fish, I got to use my best bait, Ocho. Yeah.
40:13Joe Johnson:Come on now. Come on now.
40:15Shannon Sharpe:Sometimes to catch a tiger, you got to use your best goat. My best goat in this clip was what? Sean Payton accused me of.
40:26Joe Johnson:He knew that. He knew. How do I pull him in? How do I get everybody's attention? Not only for this interview, but for others I've done in the past. Now, all eyes on me.
40:40Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Travis Hunter could be seeing more playing time at the wide receiver position following the Jags' week two loss to the Broncos. Jags coach Liam And Coen said, anytime you struggle offensively, specifically, you look at the totality of it all. Travis is a big part of that. We're looking at finding different ways to get him involved. You're also looking at the other side of the ball. I thought he did a nice job throughout the course of the week, and we're going to look at giving him some more this week. It's a balancing act. Tough, right? No, excuse me. It's a balancing act, though, right?
41:15Shannon Sharpe:You're trying to get him into the flow, whether it's offense or defense. but we have concerns because we have a lot of confidence in him. Giving him more opportunities, Ocho, is it worth taking rips away from Parker Washington, Brian Thomas Jr., or Jacoby Myers?
41:32Joe Johnson:No, I don't think it's worth it. You have another playmaker. You have another dynamic player that can be an impact for you offensively. Those other players are very good in their own right in what they can do, but Travis Hunter is a special player, so he should be used in special ways. He can have packages where he can make a difference offensively. He's explosive. He can hit his head off the goalpost from anywhere on the field. It's just about putting him in position to be able to make those plays, being that he's a special player who's playing both ways. So I'm glad they're going to use him in that way.
42:06Joe Johnson:He almost had an interception, I think, last week, huh? Yeah, he was close. Yeah, it went right through his hands. But outside of that, I like it. I like the idea of them giving him more opportunities to play.
42:18Chad Johnson:Yeah, I agree. I want to see him out there more offensively, Ankin Ocho, especially from the wide receiver side, because I think he's so dynamic, not just defensively. I think offensively as well. Now, I understand that the two-way position in the NFL is a lot different. You know what I mean? But I think that young man is capable. Obviously, he's coming off an injury. So you want him to get back confident in that league and getting back out there playing and having fun and running around being rambunctious. And that's what he looked like last week. But I'm glad they expanded his role, Arcan Ocho, because I do.
42:53Chad Johnson:I think he's very electric, and I love seeing, you know, when they create these little opportunities for him and they put that package in for him to where he can catch passes and kind of get up and get up out of there.
43:02Shannon Sharpe:That's what Ocho and I said all the time. I said create packages. But if you think this man in an NFL game that you got the best of the best is going to play every snap on offense and every snap on defense. Y 'all have your damn mind. Bro, he's not doing it. Because I was in the league when two of the best has ever played. Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders. And Bo just played offense. Bo would leave straight from the baseball field and come play football. And you wouldn't even know the man ain't had no football training or nothing. And time was the same way. Time was playing baseball and football. Yeah.
43:44Shannon Sharpe:And time could have been a Hall of Famer at the wide receiver position. That's how talented he was. We know what he was at corner. Yeah. But if he was just like focused and said, you know what, all I want to do is I want to play wide receiver, he'd have been a Hall of Famer there too. Absolutely. And he didn't play every snap. He had a package. That's all we said. Bro, y 'all, I don't think, Ochoa, I don't think people really understand the difference between college and pro.
44:17Joe Johnson:No, no, probably not. I think some probably do. Some probably understand it. You know how rigorous it is, you know, at the highest level. But I don't know.
44:32Shannon Sharpe:What do you think, Joe? Do people understand the difference between college football, I mean college basketball and pro basketball, college football, and college, uh, pro basketball, football, excuse me.
44:42Chad Johnson:It's, it's, it's such a huge difference, difference, Uncle Ocho, because in college, yeah, you might have a guy or two on the team who may have a child, right? Right. But in the pros, man, this is these dudes' livelihood. You know what I mean? They, I'm talking about guys who've been in the league seven, eight, nine, ten years. Man, you think, man, they ain't finna let these little dudes come in here and think they finna be running. None these dudes do this for a living, bro. Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah, I think it's a huge difference. See, in college, when you come out of high school, you can go dominate college right away.
45:14Chad Johnson:Man, when you come to the pros, bro, it take a minute, man. Especially in football, it take a minute before you really get going.
45:21Shannon Sharpe:Think about it. You're trying to dominate. See, the thing is, what they gave up for Mocho is not good enough for him to play both sides. They're going to look at you at what you did in college and expect you to do what you did in college to do that in the NFL. And I told you, bro, that is not happening. So y 'all think that man's going to go out there and be an all-pro wide receiver and be an all-pro DB? Because think about it. He won – what did he win? He won the – well, he was in the running for the – I think the Blitnikoff Award, and he ended up winning the Thorpe Award. He won – which one did he win?
45:54Shannon Sharpe:I know we know he won the Heisman, but I think he might have won the Blitnikoff. but I mean but I was like guys do y 'all understand what these y 'all think these guys just gonna let oh man that's Travis I can't get open oh that's Travis I can't d him up do y 'all understand how much pride these guys have big time hey hey but that boy Trav done put on some weight now he
46:20Chad Johnson:He did. He did. He looked good. He looked good out there.
46:25Joe Johnson:Yeah. That's right, trying to prevent injury.
46:28Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, yeah. And that's a lot. I mean, people don't realize 65 NFL plays is a big difference than 65 college plays. Because you're going to run 70, 80 plays in college like nothing. Yeah. Boy, you start getting the A. You have three or four games with 80 plays in the NFL game and see what you be feeling it. Man. I don't know about you, but I played, we played Cincinnati one year. We had 93 snaps. 93.
47:02Chad Johnson:Damn.
47:03Shannon Sharpe:Back then. Through regulation? Through regulation, yes. Yep. That's a lot of snaps. Hell yeah. Man, I was hurting. I'm like, damn. sure don't want to go back to college now where they might have 100 snaps in a game. Man. About that. Kevin Durant says he doesn't agree with the Rockets trying to limit his minutes this season. Joe Ocho, take a listen. Played the second most minutes out of any players in the regular season last season. Obviously, the playoffs, you had a couple unfortunate injuries. Rafael and Emei have talked about wanting to get your minutes down at points this season. Why? Why do they want to get your minutes down?
47:47Shannon Sharpe:I guess that's more of a question. Are you okay with playing a little less minutes this season?
47:51Chad Johnson:I mean, it's been the same message for me for a long time, man. I'm better on the court. The team is better when I'm on the court. Now, if we handle our business the first three quarters, or earlier in the game, then maybe. But just for the sake of getting my minutes just because, oh, he's older or he's played a lot of minutes, it's like that's what I'm supposed to be training for is to play the long haul, Play 48 minutes a night. But I get the concern, but, you know, if the game needs me to be out there, I want to be out there. Joe?
48:29Joe Johnson:Hey, the funny thing about it, too. Hey, Uncle Joe, Joe, before you go, I'm thinking about Kevin Durant, and they're trying to, you know, watch his minutes and allow him to play in a way where he's most efficient. And if sitting out a little bit more, it make you a little bit more efficient as you get older. I think maybe it is a good thing, but knowing Kevin Durant, being that he's always played as long as he could and took rest when rest was necessary, and players actually being able to control the narrative and when they want to play and when they don't, I don't see him doing it. I don't see him doing it.
49:05It's a great idea, but I think it comes down to whether he wants to or not, and I don't see him doing it.
49:11Chad Johnson:Yeah, nah. KD, he loves the game, Uncle Ocho. He loves playing the game. he plays the right way and it's gonna be hard to sit a guy like that down bro it's gonna be hard to sit him down and take less minutes because of his passion for the game he wants to win you know what i mean he like he said we're better when i'm on the floor you know what i mean he ain't really gonna he's not gonna succumb to that plus he's missed a lot of time throughout his career as well you know what i mean so although he leaves yeah yeah yeah so although he's although he's been in the league for a long time and he's up the charts, bro, he got a lot left.
49:51Chad Johnson:He got a lot left. He got that small, thin frame. I think he'll still be able to hold up. He knows how to take care of himself throughout the season now. Hey, man, it's going to be hard to keep that man off the floor, bro.
50:02Shannon Sharpe:My only concern is what good is playing all these minutes if you come playoff times you can't play? What have you accomplished, Joe? Yeah. Not a whole lot.
50:12Joe Johnson:Hold on. What do you mean? Come playoff time. Did you not see him? He missed games in the postseason. He missed games against the Lakers. He played one game. Oh, that's right. That's right. That's right. That's right. That's right.
50:23Shannon Sharpe:He played the second most minutes of anybody. He was a year 19. Yeah. Yeah.
50:31Chad Johnson:But to kill apart Uncle Ocho, he ain't got to go out there and play a whole lot of damn minutes, man. They got a young team that can win games without him. You just ain't going to be able to win no damn playoff series without him. But you can win games throughout the regular season without KD.
50:50Shannon Sharpe:You just need him in that postseason. But that's the thing, though. At what expense? I might have to shorten you on the front end in order to extend you on the back end. He wants to be extended on the front end, and in possibility it might shorten him on the back end, Joe.
51:07Joe Johnson:How do you get him to understand that? You can't. How do you get him to understand what you just said? Now, I don't know what his injury history is outside of his Achilles, but outside of last year, has he been hurt going into the playoffs? I think it was his knee last year.
51:20Chad Johnson:Yeah, I think it was his knee.
51:22Joe Johnson:So, outside of that, has he been hurt any other time?
51:25Shannon Sharpe:No, he dealt with some calf injuries. He had a couple of injuries when he was at Golden State early. I don't really know the extent of his injury history at OKC because it's been so long that he's been away from OKC.
51:42Shannon Sharpe:I think he got Nick when he first got to Phoenix Can we pull Joe Ash I think he got Nick to Phoenix
51:52Chad Johnson:I think he tweaked his anchor one time He tweaked his anchor on just like some fluky stuff Just warming up by himself
52:01Joe Johnson:I remember that he twisted a little bit
52:02Chad Johnson:He missed a few games behind that But KD is a hooper bro He's a hooper. He wants to be out there. He wants to be out there competing. And, Unc, I understand what you're saying. Maybe you lighten the load up early, but it's hard to lighten the load early when I ain't hurting early and I'm feeling good. You know what I mean? It's when you get in them dog days after All-Star break, about March and April, it get tough. But that's when you want to be clicking at the right time, bro. That's the time you want to be trying to gain momentum going into the postseason. And I'm sure, you know, the Houston Rockets franchise has, you know, big plans for their team to be, you know, competitive in the Western Conference.
52:45Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, I agree. I agree. But it's hard, Joe, Ocho, you know, as a player, we want to play. We wait our whole life to get on this stage. And now we're on this stage, and now you try to short me. Because KD also understands he's closer to the end than the beginning. and he knows there's no senior league. It's not like golf. Golf you can play on the PGA Tour. Guess what? I turn 50, I can go get on the senior circuit. Ain't no senior circuit in football. Ain't no senior circuit in basketball. When you hang it up, that's it.
53:22Chad Johnson:It's over with.
53:25Shannon Sharpe:I mean, do I see KD potentially like when he hanging up, probably still going to lifetime or going to try to get some runs in? Yeah.
53:32Chad Johnson:Oh, yeah. Yeah, I do. Oh, yeah. I do. You can't help it. If injuries don't rob you from playing Uncle Ocho, when you done, bro, it's hard to just put something down when you've been doing it over 20-some odd years and just be like, oh, I'm done. This is the 20th season. Yeah. After you've been doing something for so long, bro, it's hard for you to just put it down and be like, oh, I ain't going to do that. Working out becomes a part of who you are.
53:59Shannon Sharpe:Right. Yeah. I think now, I think you're going to see. I mean, think about it. I think we're going to see – you're going to see more guys play until their 20th season. Because look at LeBron's in 24. KD's in 20. I think Steph is in 18 or 19. You saw Russ play, what, 17, 18. You see guys play – Chris Paul, the guy from Toronto. What's his name? Kyle Lowry. I think he played 19, 20. I think now with the advent of medicine and technology and the money that's involved, Joe, I think you're going to see guys playing longer, much longer.
54:34Chad Johnson:I don't know. I don't know. The guys who you just named, they really enjoy the game. And, you know, they enjoy the prep that comes with playing the game. A lot of these young dudes ain't trying to do all their hard-ass work. They ain't trying to do that. Excuse me. They just want to roll the ball out, show up. I'm just keeping it real. Hey, them dudes, they ain't trying to do all that extra stuff. And I think as you age, because y 'all know this, y 'all both play. But as you age, bro, it gets harder. It does. You know what I mean? It don't get easy. Hell, you got to work a lot harder. You got to eat a lot better.
55:09Chad Johnson:Like, I'm talking about to be playing up in 18, 19, 20-something years. It takes a lot, bro. It takes a life adjustment. To stay motivated. And a lot of these young cats who ain't never really been through nothing, they ain't willing to make those sacrifices, bro. There's some mean sacrifices you got to make.
55:27Shannon Sharpe:I think with Joe and Ocho guys looking out there now, $400 million,$500 million,$600 million in the next 10 years. In the next 10 years, Ocho, Joe, somebody going to be making$100 million a year.
55:41Chad Johnson:Yeah, think about this. And they getting them early, Ocho. They going to high school. They starting to get these kids in high school now. So imagine this.
