In short

Katherine Ryan joins Olivia’s House to discuss her “brutal advice” on Olivia’s love life, her own dating/sex views, the “Alex vs Alix” podcast feud, and her recent facelift and broader plastic-surgery ethics. She also shares personal stories about lockdown, motherhood/work pressure, and losing pets.

Guest backgrounds

Katherine Ryan is a Canadian-born comedian and TV personality. She recently filmed The Price of Perfection (spring release) and has a long-running comedy career. She’s a mother of four and has spoken publicly about plastic surgery and body image.

Key claims

Women are more often labeled “mean/difficult” when they set boundaries, unlike men. Nikki Glaser’s comments on allowing a partner to sleep with others (a cuck/cuckold dynamic) felt “off key” to fans. The Alex Cooper vs Sophia Frankin “daddy issues” controversy reflects power dynamics: women with big media empires get “contained” via “mean girl” narratives. Katherine’s facelift was timed for an easier baby stage and she credits icing for recovery.

Notable examples

Missing jackets allegedly taken by a housekeeper; pets dying peacefully (including a dog in a nebulizer tent). Facelift cost cited as ~$22–23k (press claimed $16k; later consult with Stephen/Chris Jenner-linked surgeon pricing rising). She had a deep-plane facelift and wore a balaclava during recovery.

1:18Olivia Attwood:That's O-L-L-Y dot com. This episode is brought to you by Batiste. If you're a girl's girl like me, then you're not gatekeeping. If I'm onto something good, I'm passing it on. Because if you love it, you share it. And that's what Pass the Batiste is all about. We're the generation that sends the link, shares the lipstick and hands over the hair tie. So why not share the one thing that saves you on busy mornings, post-gym or before last minute plans? Batiste dry shampoo is one of those everyday hair staples that just makes life easier. A few quick sprays and your hair looks fresher, feels better and smells amazing.

1:55Olivia Attwood:And it's not just for greasy roots. Use it after a workout to extend a blow dry, add a bit of texture or volume, or leave your hair smelling great with fragrances for whatever mood you're in. So go on, pass the Batiste. They're all dead, Olivia. No, shut the f*** up, they're not. They all died. No, they didn't. Like in a suicide pact. No, you're lying. No. Well, I think in lockdown, I saw people online making banana bread and I was f***ed at that. And I was like, I'm going to make people. and I got this God complex and I just kept making people like some type of psychosis. Oh, maybe I didn't have the confidence to think I could take a year off.

2:32I didn't know if my audience would still be there if I did a tour. Wasn't there an article about you being mean? They were like, can you please tell us you're next of kin? And I just picked something with the anesthetist. I was like, him. And they were like, your husband? I was like, no, I'm not speaking to him today.

2:47Olivia Attwood:Well, do you want that for me? Do you think I should be on my own a little bit? Your taste is not great. You said some very nice things for me today, and I didn't grow up in that kind of family, so it's highly uncomfortable to me. But I've sat, I've kind of leant through it.

3:07Olivia Attwood:Hi, dolls. Welcome back to Olivia's house. I am joined in my house today by the one and only Catherine Ryan. Hello. Come on. I'm a fan of Olivia's house. I've been dying to come to the house. What's your first impressions? Well, no. I was going to say it's ****. How do you feel about that? That's what I would want it to be. I don't know the rules yet about language. You're another RNA. I love the fridge cigarettes, the DCs. Thank you. Chilling. There's nothing like a cold Diet Coke in a martini glass. Why not? Why not? When I watch clips of Olivia's house, I think it's very moody. I like the lighting.

3:48My mother would be happy with this lighting. She won't go into any fluorescent lighting.

3:54Olivia Attwood:And no, she shouldn't. None of us really should, actually. No, I'm very happy with it. I wanted it to feel like sexy, you know, kind of, well, it's a club. I was worried about you when you first unveiled the new project because I thought it was a club. And I went, oh, God, the service industry, hospitality is so difficult. What's she doing? She's traveling so much. She's presenting everything. Can you imagine me sinking everything I've earned into a bar? and then I drink everything, you know, that we stock and I'm there every night. It would be very Wayne Lineker at Obeach. Yeah. He was now sober, but pre-sober.

4:33Olivia Attwood:That's, I think, the vibes that I would serve in my own club. We are going to do nights. Okay. So they're coming. So if you want to throw it down. A one-off event every once in a while in someone else's money trap. Someone else's bottomless pit. my uncle has a bar and it's turned him into a man who just sits at home looking at the cctv of it all day kind of sounds fun though yeah is it in canada yes like where you're from like across the street from where i grew up everything's across the street small town vibes now say the name of the town you're from sarnia sarnia ontario so we're just saying if we started rolling what what do we talk about i mean there's loads to talk about but me and you spoke a lot you were on my last podcast.

5:20Olivia Attwood:I was on your podcast. We just checked before we started rolling. I'm still one of the youngest biological ages. I'm what's my age again? You can't get younger. Thank you so much. So just goes to show balance. Balance. And we just filmed The Price of Perfection, my TV show, which comes out in spring. That was a good chat. But I kind of want to talk about the face a little bit today also because it'd be insane to have you here not talk about the face but before we get into it we've got a little uh ritual in the house we leave something at the door so i asked my guests to do what would you like to leave at the door today catherine i would like to leave at the door my husband getting rid of all my stuff i just knew you weren't gonna disappoint me yeah please elaborate i should have paused after my husband yeah i i was like bitch you're in the right place like my current husband my real husband.

6:12Yeah.

6:12Olivia Attwood:Oh, did you sign a certificate? Why? Why didn't I think to just skip that bit? He gets rid of everything. He's a very tidy husband and I do appreciate that. That's not bad. Because a lot of them are really messy. Pigs. I've read. But he will just throw things away. So there was the case of the missing jackets, which I think we might have been robbed by a housekeeper in retrospect. Okay. Because she was Eastern European. She was a lovely woman. We only had her for a short time and she had this random son who was like her same age and Jamaican. Yeah. But I'm very progressive person. I'm all about diversity.

6:49I was like, maybe you're a young slag. I was as well. Like, I don't know. Exactly. I could have a Jamaican son my age easily. So she would like take photos of Bobby's clothes. We found her a couple of times taking photos of Bobby's clothes. And, you know, we're very live and let live. So we didn't ask questions. We're And one time she said to him, oh, my son likes this kind of thing. So I was taking a picture for my son. And we were like, oh, yeah. So ask me if he wants it. Yeah. Your adult Jamaican son. And then one time she was like, can my adult Jamaican son stay here? And I was like, no. No.

7:23Anyway, we parted ways. But not before a bunch of stuff went missing. Okay. And I'm not a huge, like, staff person. This is a really relatable chat.

7:32Olivia Attwood:No, I can feel the eye rolls as people drive down there in 25 right now. I trust the laundress, but the chef. No, it didn't work out, but we had these coats that I was putting away seasonally. And I had beautiful coats in there. I had this like Prada puffer jacket. I had an Alexander Wang coat that I had customized with this like insane felt artist rendition of Ramesh, Ranganathan. No stop. Yeah, this woman. This is a real one of one piece. Yeah. You can't recreate this. This woman online used to make like felt representations of different comedians, but with tits, with like tassels on the ends of the nipples.

8:14And I bought the Ramesh one because he hated it so much and I loved it so much. Of course, yeah. And I put it on a jacket. And then that was gone as well. And I was like, Bobby, because he, my husband Bobby, throws everything away. Okay. Everything away. He'll move it into the garage and then you know it's in danger and then it will go.

8:30Olivia Attwood:Is that like it's kind of like it's pre, before it leaves the building, it goes to the garage and then it disappears. And then he takes it to the dump or to his marketplace, which is just the road. And then people get fly to me. Yeah, yeah. And so all these went missing. And he was like, I promise it wasn't me. I'm like, you've thrown away so many of my nice things before. Baby books. I went and spent hundreds of pounds getting books from my childhood for my kids. Yeah. And then he'll just throw them away. He just loves throwing things away. so he likes just like declutter yeah would you are you a bit more hoarder like if he wasn't there would you just keep everything i don't feel that that's the case but no hoarder would identify themselves as being sick you know they're all like i need i need this garbage in case and next thing you know you're up to your knees and cat shit yeah with like a million romish coats on a rack they need to be hoarding therapy they're not well and they won't let go of stuff I might be a bit like that, but not, I would never live in clutter.

9:28I'm tidy as well, so I don't know. He's got to stop.

9:31Olivia Attwood:He's got to stop. He doesn't ask my permission anymore. Because I always feel like from your Insta, the garden is his. You let him go nuts there. Like that's his terrain. He's like a street fox. He could be in and around the perimeter of the house. Just not in the actual. And how many are in the house now? There's four kids. Yeah, four. Four. How many dogs? Oh. How's, no, don't tell me. Okay. okay but do she's not with us anymore they're all dead no shut the fuck up they're not they all died no they didn't like in a suicide pact no you're lying no why am i laughing last time i saw you there was an oxygen tent for the dog no that was a sign that was a that was foreshadowing yeah so we have we have elderly you know yeah one of them was like really like so yeah meg ryan was not doing well.

10:21That was it. And we had her in an oxygen tent because every time she would have an episode, and she's one of these flat-faced dogs and elderly and very small. And so we would take her to the vet and they would put her in a nebulizer tent. So I went, well, why don't I just buy one of those and she can sleep in it every night, be re-oxygenated. She was on Viagra, which is good for circulation. Like if you have any cardiovascular issues, Viagra. If you get caught with Viagra, you can say you just have cardiovascular issues. Your dog is over. But you get rock hard. Yeah, these are my dogs. But she died and that was bad.

10:58Like I came down, I wasn't expecting her to go. And I came down in the morning and she was laying in her nebulizer tent and I just knew. You just knew. Have you lost a pet yet?

11:10Olivia Attwood:Childhood family ones, but not my, like the dogs we grew up with. It's just, it's horrible. But have you seen them? No. So my mum did that. Like I kind of, you know, one that was to be taken and, you know, that decision was made at the vet. And actually, no, my dad, there was a garden centre in Surrey that we can't go into because they used to do like small animal boarding. And I had guinea pigs, Romeo and Harvey were their names. Oh, no. We went away for a family holiday, came by. Dad took me to pick up Romeo and Harvey. one was handed in his little like thing the other one was handed to me in a shoebox Romeo had snuffed it and they handed me when I was about 12 a dead guinea pig in a box so obviously my dad's first question was like what the fuck is wrong with you?

12:02Olivia Attwood:like you don't just hand a child a dead guinea pig and also a call would have been nice or a text so that would I guess be the only thing that I've experienced that's very country very country they're like oh yeah this one snuffed it here you go and a shovel in the other hand And it felt solid, you know, like it wasn't secure in the box and he was rock hard. Oh, no. So it was kind of sliding about. I'd say it was like a size 10 shoebox and Romeo is more like a size 6. Yeah. And he was just rocking around inside. Yeah. We buried him in the garden. But anyway, so you knew. Well, then you know a little bit about, yeah.

12:36Olivia Attwood:And they go hard, like Rick and Mortis. Well, I was there too soon for that. I got it like right away. Okay. I think she, yeah, she would only have been past like minutes. But I believe in a soul now because I've seen like animals without it. And there's something that's different. They're just not there anymore. So it was nice. And then Manny went just like a couple weeks ago kind of the same way. But I saw him in the morning. And he went outside. And he came back inside and he just laid down in his favorite spot and just like died. It was very peaceful. Oh my God, Captain. I'm so sorry. Thanks.

13:06But it was all right.

13:07Olivia Attwood:Do you think he missed her? Yeah, I do. Because they were together. Were you more dogs or no? I think that or cats or any pets I think what's going to happen is when I am not nursing babies I will have this maternal thing kick in where I'll go I need to get a very small dog and then I'll like dress it up and carry it around but I don't have the energy for that right now no can I ask that annoying question that people probably fucking ask all the time more kids? you can ask it it's an annoying question isn't it it doesn't annoy me But like, are you going to have kids? You've just made one. And I'm asking if you're going to make another one.

13:45Olivia Attwood:But I'm just curious. Or do you not know? I think it's fair enough to ask me because I seem to have a hoarding issue with kids. You do like making them. Well, I think in lockdown, what happened is I saw people online making banana bread. And I was shit at that. And I was like, I'm going to make people. And I got this God complex. And I just kept making people like some type of psychosis. And then, I don't know. I think you're probably the same as when you like something, then you just do it to death. You just do it as much as you can. I don't know how to like something in a healthy way. I never have.

14:19Olivia Attwood:Yeah. So maybe it's better I don't start with that. But yeah, I mean, it's the way that you have balanced kids and work the last few, well, your whole life basically is insane to witness. Where's your stance on the have it all? I think if I could do it again, meaning have these kids and work or not work, I have a very tricky balance between traditionalism and being like a progressive feminist is annoyingly, I kind of am an agent of the patriarchy because I believe in being physically close to your new baby all the time. And I believe in breastfeeding if you can. I believe in carrying them in your arms everywhere if you can.

15:04Olivia Attwood:And you coast that. I coast sleep. We still co-sleep. My son is almost five. We co-sleep with everybody. We respond to their needs immediately. No self-sleeping in your house. No. We have spoiled these kids a lot. And I got really fat in all of my pregnancies, but particularly one. And I kept working, and that's all right. I mean, I don't have a problem. I'm a very body-positive person when it comes to other people. Yeah. But I look back on my last two specials, and I'm like, you fat prick. just because I think I curated quite a glamorous thing when I started comedy. And I still remember, you know, those early specials.

15:45And I feel like that's what I look like. And then I see Nikki Glaser, like, presenting the Golden Globes looking amazing. I see you trotting around. I already have me to worry about. Well, you look great. It's not just skinny, though. You know what I mean? There are people who are fuller figured and they look incredible. but like the self-care for me was not there and I was rolling around town with one tit out all the time my pumps are in the dressing room like it just doesn't and I've done okay but it's like oh maybe I didn't have the confidence to think I could take a year off or maybe I didn't have the you know I didn't know if my audience would still be there if I did a tour two years down the line

16:22Olivia Attwood:rather than one year down the line I was going to make a comment so that's a this industry thing but I actually don't think it is because I've had the same my sister works in finance and I've had the same conversation with her. She's like, where I am right now, if I disappear for a year, am I getting back in that spot in that team? Probably not. Do you know what I mean? It's like, it's a very real situation that women have to debate in their mind every day that men never really have to have that conversation with themselves before entering into parenthood. No. Oh my gosh. Nothing changes. And I feel badly because I have made jokes about like the men, how it's different.

16:54Yeah. You know, Ramesh won't come off stage and be handed a screaming infant. Like there are, inequalities. Maybe he will. I would love to witness that though. Yeah, I'll be there with one of mine. There are like screaming inequalities, even though my husband is the best that he could be. He's really hands on with the children, which is another term we only use for men. Catherine's really hands on with her kids. But still, there are biological injustices. Like I was pregnant six times in five years. His body was not. I breastfeed everyone. I have to look after everyone in a way that is helpful, as wonderful as he is.

17:33He can't. And these boys that I'm working with, they can tour, they can do whatever. And they have usually a woman at home who's like handling the shit. And even though Bobby is a stay-at-home parent, I'm still booking the doctor's appointments and doing the family calendar and carrying the mental and emotional load in so many ways. But that's fine. And if I got pregnant again, because we're weird, we don't use protection. We just like... See what happens. Time it. I mean, I'm not, for the first time, not seeing what happens. Oh, so you're doing the tracking. Yes. But you look at the app and...

18:10But we should maybe look at that because if I got pregnant again, I'd be rolling up to the abortion clinic with a triple buggy being like, can I park this outside? Please help me. Yeah, can you imagine? Why is this financially solvent 42-year-old bringing three children under five to her abortion? I think it speaks for itself.

18:31Olivia Attwood:Yeah, you're like, I have no more hands or breasts. Yeah. Please do something. Yeah. You just mentioned Nikki Glaser. I have some thoughts. I love that you've brought that up. I didn't know if anyone else clocked that. It's so niche. Okay, so if you don't know, Nikki Glaser was on Alex Cooper's Call Her Daddy. they had a conversation that's been slightly controversial i don't think she was joking because at first i was like is she trying to be funny she made comments about basically her on-off relationship with her boyfriend of 10 years and she doesn't mind if he sleeps with other people in their relationship because it kind of turns her on she's got a bit of a cuck fetish and she likes the fact that other women find him attractive and i actually think i understand the point she was trying to make I just don't know if it landed the way it she heard it in her brain I mean yeah hot take I watched that and I was like where's her PR on that being like well I just thought it's an interesting conversation after such a mega couple of years it just that is that such a good point like PR wise just it felt and it felt a little bit it's felt off key it felt strange it did feel off key i wonder why that is for us i know maybe because we're tops and she's being a bottom yeah that it's because actually it's like in i guess i'm a bit like you i battle with this side of like i i kind of has this side of me that would like to likes the idea of whatever fucking quote unquote traditional family unit looks like all the rest it but then i also have this i do have this very like matter of fact of understanding that i just when it comes to sex that the way that men and women are and view sex i i do believe that for men sex isn't doesn't have to be emotional but then i just think if you're in a relationship with someone they care about you they actually love you like do you know what i mean it's all those those i understand the point she was trying to make but i also think she's really smart really successful maybe she could have found a better situation than the one she's in for 10 years that sounds a little bit yeah I think I it's I think it was surprising because she doesn't talk about that in her stand-up so she'll talk about celebrities she'll talk about other things she'll talk about sex I think the writing was on the wall the the clues were there with some of the anal stuff but she'll talk about not wanting to have kit you know but this was a sharp left turn for her fans we were like oh and you let him what yeah yeah I think maybe because to us having some traditional values and believing in romance and loyalty and all these things I think maybe it feels like there's an insecurity bubbling under the surface where she allows that pick me you did it felt which I always think she's such a cool girl so I like I was like that's not the vibe I get from you um what what do you think of alex versus alex i like the one that remains on call her daddy cooper yeah and i wasn't listening before the split so the other are you thinking you're so fair franklin yeah okay no the alex that alex has beef with them do you guys understand this you they're all nodding in the studio come on josh i've just called out a massive boss of the podcast um okay so alex cooper is call her daddy host actually so this this beef has like expanded now so this sophia franklin is now releasing a book called daddy issues where she's going to talk about the way that that podcast split and kind of supposedly alex cooper kind of stole the podcast so that was her former co-host yes not this other alex alex earl is very confusing who is basically the mirror image of her they look so similar and they're both called alex she got bought under Alex Cooper's network and had her own podcast called Hot Mess and then she took the podcast and went off separately and now they've been indirectly kind of being spiteful online and then Alex Cooper went online and was like you know say it say it I have nothing to hide yeah and I'm kind of like the blondes are fighting I'm kind of here for it okay so the rhetoric online is that Alex Cooper is a mean girl my thing of this is I just don't think men don't like it, but women don't like when women get too powerful either.

22:54Olivia Attwood:And I just think that she's created something so, this juggernaut, this production company, this podcast and now TV shows. And do you know what? Like it pisses men off, but I think it pisses off other women more. And I think it's a little bit, I think it's a little bit like, no, you've got too big, we're going to contain you now. And we're going to, now we're going to say you're mean. But we'd never, I know it's like the most boring repeating, we'd never say that about a man. Who goes, oh you know he built this but he's really mean they go no he's direct and he gets shit done and he's it just pisses me off can you imagine mean Bill Gates is mean yeah and apparently he's a like Bill Gates apparently genuinely quite an evil person but like no one talks about it could be an alleged pedo which is arguably worse gave his wife antibiotics without her knowledge which is actually illegal I mean obviously at this point I guess.

23:48Olivia Attwood:I don't even know anymore. It's all alleged. You know, he's a very powerful guy. Don't want to get offed in the street. He's a smart man. And there could be people conspiring to bring him down with fake news. He could be a great, great man. But we're still going to get more pissed off online about the fact that this girl might have like, you know, a cold edge to her with her stuff. I can't tell you how many women in this industry I have been told are bitches or mean or the word difficult is one they like to use. And I almost feel like that was a tool to keep me in my place for certain projects.

24:25Because people would say, oh, I've worked with your friend, so-and-so. She's difficult, isn't she? And I go, is she? Yeah, she's really difficult. As in, what are you going to do? Oh, so-and-so that you really admire. They're really difficult. And I don't think that there is a woman whom I admire that hasn't been called difficult. Yeah. Anytime I say, I love her. Difficult. She's crazy or difficult. I'm like, she sounds like someone I want to have a beer with. And wasn't there an article about you being mean recently? Yeah, that was like the head. Eczema is unpredictable, but you can flare less with Epglyss, a once-monthly treatment for moderate to severe eczema.

Read the full transcript

25:04After an initial four-month or longer dosing phase, about four in ten people taking Epglyss achieved itch relief and clear or almost clear skin at 16 weeks. And most of those people maintain skin that's still more clear at one year with monthly dosing. EbGliss, Librikizumab, LBKZ, a 250 mg per 2 ml injection is a prescription medicine used to treat adults and children 12 years of age and older who weigh at least 88 pounds or 40 kg with moderate to severe eczema. Also called atopic dermatitis that is not well controlled with prescription therapies used on the skin or topicals or who cannot use topical therapies.

25:32EbGliss can be used with or without topical corticosteroids. Don't use if you're allergic to EbGliss. Allergic reactions can occur that can be severe. Eye problems can occur. Tell your doctor if you have new or worsening eye problems.

25:42Olivia Attwood:You should not receive a live vaccine when treated with EBCLIS. Before starting EBCLIS, tell your doctor if you have a parasitic infection. Ask your doctor about EBCLIS and visit ebglis.lily.com or call 1-800-LILY-RX or 1-800-545-5979. K-pop Demon Hunters, Saja Boys Breakfast Meal and Huntrix Meal have just dropped at McDonald's. They're calling this a battle for the fans. What do you say to that, Rumi? It's not a battle. So glad the Saja Boys could take breakfast and give our meal the rest of the day. It is an honor to share. No, it's our honor. It is our larger honor. No, really. Stop. You can really feel the respect in this battle.

26:20Pick a meal to pick a side.

26:23Olivia Attwood:A participant in McDonald's while supplies last. The line was, oh God, I'm going to misquote her now. It's like the utter unpleasantness and mean girl something something. But then when you got into the article, there wasn't anything to back up the so-called, you know, meanness. I don't know. Would it help you if I started obliquely slagging you off online? The problem is that they, the press, and I guess some people understand, I will welcome attention, negative or positive. So I, like, that's not really an issue. But, you know, like you say, that mean girl thing, what do you mean by that? And like you say, and also that is something that has, like, plagued me in the years, like the last few years making tv shows and making things like getting filled for you rich and price to perfection and like we're making these shows that are really near the mark and sometimes there'll be a situation where i'm like i don't want to ask that question or i don't want to go down that route because in my gut it doesn't feel aligned to me and then you know there's a bit of pushback on set maybe and there's a conversation and then when i go away and i get my car off i think oh they're gonna think i'm such fucking pain in the ass and then i kind of have to and even if you deliver it in the nicest way, that's the thing I think, oh, what if they go and they go to another production company and they go, well, she needs to be difficult because she didn't do what we told her.

27:41Olivia Attwood:But I don't think men would ever feel that way. And I speak to other men, I speak to my male colleagues, you know, like Pete, I speak to about it. He never feels that way when he says, I don't do that. Like he never questions himself when he says a boundary, whereas I question myself straight away. But also I think that there are certain demands put on you that they wouldn't even put on the man. So you're in a position to say no, that it wouldn't even be brought to his doorstep. Like I did a project with the aforementioned Ramesh Rangnathan, who I love so much. And I just noticed what a pleasant experience it was on set.

28:18We filmed something for Sky called Romantic Getaway and everything was just smooth. Like there weren't a lot of questions if he wanted something done. No one was asking him to, you know what I mean? So it starts at the root, I think. You're having to say no to things and figure out a way to navigate that in the most polite, nice girl way that you can. They wouldn't even ask a male counterpart.

28:43Olivia Attwood:And I also think for a lot of men, no can be a full sentence. Whereas I sometimes, I'm most exhausted sometimes in creative projects by having to explain for the fifth time why I don't want to do something or why I don't like something. Whereas I don't, like you said, I just don't know if there'd be that much pushback necessarily against male talent. They kind of go, okay, fine. Like, you don't want to do it. Yeah. Whereas it's like you get exhausted with the, you know, and then maybe on the fourth time of saying, you maybe become a little bit shorter in tone. They go, what does that mean, girl?

29:12Olivia Attwood:Bitch. I don't even care if people think about it. I really don't think about it at all. But I think it's important for your listeners even to take this message if they're not working in that environment to their intimate relationships. I hear all the time that I must be high maintenance in my marriage. She's probably high maintenance. and I'm not exactly sure what that means and by the way I'm the lowest maintenance but one of my very good friends Chidera Egaru who has a podcast here called The Slumflower Chidera says do you want to be a woman who's low maintenance what does that mean should you not be hard work should access to you not be precious so I think we should normalize women being high maintenance and that can be whatever definition of high maintenance because also low maintenance that you say is that just a woman that you know just puts herself at the bottom of the fucking pile constantly so they associate high maintenance someone that you know wants to care for themselves wants people to respect them have boundaries like you know those things but we we never you never say about a man god what he's fucking high maintenance boyfriend he's that they just go oh no he's he can be like that he's whatever he just loves me he's just angry because he loves me um if you meet your own standards, your standards are never too high.

30:29That's the other thing. I like fancy things. I can afford fancy things. I want someone who works really hard and pours themselves into their family. I work really hard and pour myself. I expect honesty. I deliver honesty. I don't think my standards are high at all. I want you to not throw away my bespoke Ramesh Alexander Wang jacket that I got pieced together off some artist in the internet. With breasts on it. With tits on it. tasseled nipples pointing in all kind of directions like his eyes I loved it

31:00Olivia Attwood:I'll be sad forever that that's gone I just you can't replace it so you know that talking in maintenance should we talk about the face? yeah are you bored of talking about it yet? no so if you were living under a rock and you're not chronicling online Catherine's had a facelift she's very open about it it looks fucking great because I saw you how long did I see you now? that would have been two months out so like you I can see the difference now really yeah look it I mean you looked I think you it's looked like it well when I saw you it settled quickly like you I think your recovery was good wasn't it but you now I think it looks even better yeah well I've also lost weight so I did it in a weird timeline I had my last baby yes in October and I had the facelift that I brought the baby to in December.

31:50Olivia Attwood:Yes. Which was a bit wild. But I just felt like in my experience of having kids, an eight-week-old baby is really easy to look after versus an eight - month-old baby is harder work. So I thought, I'll get it in before Christmas. That way I'm just with the family. And I went out. I just continued to do all the Christmas magic things. Did you have to wear your little headbandage, your compression? Yeah. I wore a balaclava to Jimmy Carr's Christmas party. Yeah. Which made the wealthy people a little uneasy. But I just knew that I wanted to get a facelift because of, well, I've always had an interest in plastic surgery and tweakments and stuff.

32:30And contrary to popular opinion, I've never had any surgery on my face. But in my late 20s, early 30s, I got a little bit lost in the fillers and Botox game. We all did. We did not know at the time that it would migrate.

32:41Olivia Attwood:Do people used to accuse you of having facial surgery because the way your face changed your pregnancy, right? Yes. So people think I've had a nose job because I have a little Dr. Seuss upturned nose. But that's just, I've seen a picture of you when you were Violet and you're like, you know, a child yourself, you have the same nose. But also, I would say, like, I'm so transparent. I don't know why people want to create this narrative that I've lied about something or I'm hiding something. I'm just not the person who would do that. So I think because of getting fat and thin and fat and thin all in my neck for some reason, pregnancy changed my face so much that I just was like, as a treat to myself, not just in a vain way, yes, in a vain way, but also in a spiritual, metaphorical, autonomous way.

33:27I just want to look the way I looked in 2019. I just want to look the way I looked before I continued having all these babies to complete my husband's biological legacy at no peril to him. I just was like, I'm doing it. And then in Hollywood, they've been having young facelifts now. You and I know this. Yeah. And you know what struck me is the best thing you can do after a facelift, and I did bounce back. Like, I was fine. I was fine. I was absolutely one of the quickest recoveries I think anyone has ever had. But I was icing my face a lot. That's really key. and I laughed because that's what someone who may or may not have had a facelift like Lindsay Lohan will be like, oh, I just started icing my face and I was like, yeah, bitch, me too.

34:11Olivia Attwood:Yeah, that will really help post-surgery.

34:18Olivia Attwood:Dolls, you know that I've been working a little bit too hard recently, filming, podcasting shoots, the whole lot. 35:41Olivia Attwood:yeah it's like we met and it's going to come out in spring like I said I'm doing a whole episode on facelifts because I mean got the list that obviously for legal reasons it's all you know speculative Anna Anne Hathaway Lindsay Lohan Emma Stone I mean there's so many because that the way you look and the way they look it's like they you can't do that with filler and botox it's like 10 years it just disappeared and also if you look at some of them like lindsey like emma stone it's the position of here like the eye the lid everything you can't you can't do that with ice and face cream but i also understand i understand why actors don't want to talk about it because in the way that I just was like are you bored of talking about it it's really hard to change the conversation once you've brought something as especially going because it's such a women episode but especially as a woman it's like I you know I've talked a lot about my breast augmentations and I've been on daytime tv to promote something I don't even know what I was promoting the second question was like so you had a breast augmentation 2017 I was like what fuck like you know it's very hard to move the conversation on so if you're an actor and you want to just be known for your craft.

36:52Olivia Attwood:I kind of get it, but I don't like selling things or saying, oh my God, have you, you know, squash her or whatever the fuck they say. Just say nothing. Just shut up. I mean, yeah, Hollywood actresses and musicians are in a really weird spot, aren't they? Just because of how cutthroat it is and how youth is really rewarded and beauty and prioritized so much. And then it's a different conversation once you say, oh, I've done this. They almost put you in a category that is like you've cheated and you're obsessed with what you look like. And women are supposed to achieve all of this, but absolutely effortlessly.

37:27You're meant to just roll out of bed as an ingenue, which is what I have done. But I'm someone who I think has permission to talk about it because I talk so much about everything. Pepsi Prebiotic Cola, an original and cherry vanilla. that Pepsi taste you love with no artificial sweeteners and three grams of prebiotic fiber. Pepsi Prebiotic Cola. Unbelievably Pepsi. I don't expect you to suspend belief and see me in a dramatic period piece as, you know, we have graciously done for Nicole Kidman over and over again. Yes. Yeah, like I just, I think it is dangerous to the audience. They're kind of damned if they do and damned if they don't.

38:09because there'll be people at home going, oh, I want this. And they'll go somewhere that will take advantage of them and say, I'll just put a ton of filler in your jawline. And then you'll look just like Emma Stone. It's like...

38:20Olivia Attwood:Well, yeah, I've seen on Instagram, like, you know, fucking Lindsay Lohan packages on like injectables. Oh, no. No, you can't inject that. But like you say, that is this, you know, like sort of matrix we live in where we, you know, the patriarchy want us to never age. We don't get rewarded for aging. but if there's signs of intervention that's that is you know misogyny hates oh i hate fake women they love that one i hate fake women i hate the look of fake women that is you know ridiculed and you've torn it and also let's say if you admit it then all of a sudden like your beauty is not like you know you don't get well you're not beautiful because you've yeah yeah that has changed so people will comment on videos of me before i have the facelift and they'll say your Facelift looks great.

39:06Facelift looks great. There's no more. Because they think they're making a little dig.

39:08Olivia Attwood:Yeah. There's no more you look great. Yeah. They're like, okay, you look good, but you're not going to get the credit because you've had someone else help you. Which is fine by me. I did this for them. This was an act of service to the people in the front row. I like to look at pretty things. It's like. I'm with you. You're paying for a babysitter and you've parked and you've had dinner and you're coming to my show like, here you go. I'm going to give you the most premium experience that you can have. you um you got a quote from dr is it levine yeah the lindsey lohan supposed oh no the chris jenner chris jenner confirmed stephen levine stephen levine and what were you quoted well when i first had my consult with him he had not yet done chris jenner but i suspected he'd done some of these other yeah hollywood girls so it was 174 000 and i was like but i in a way at least you know you're going to the best yeah um I called up my financial advisor I was like how's the pound doing against the dollar right now do you I was like where how can I is this a tax relief he's no and then uh Kris Jenner I was pregnant yeah just newly pregnant with Holland and then Kris Jenner came out and I rang back his assistant I was like Courtney I think I need to get in yeah and she was like oh wait he uh is 250 now or something and then now it's over 300 and I thought fucking insane my doctor Mr.

40:32Nick Rhodes at the Copper Gate Clinic in York he is amazing and really affordable I think I mean it's still going to be expensive of course but he's so ethical and I just had my follow up my three month chat with him the other day and I said to him you should put your prices up because like I know someone in London who got it done and they've got terrible cellulitis from this guy who's now charging like 110 or 120 cellulitis so it's like an infection in your skin oh god yes

40:59Olivia Attwood:Yes, I know exactly what you mean. Because it's such a vascular area. It can spread really quickly and be really dangerous. Shit, I've heard people having that from lipo. I didn't even know you could get that in your face. You can get it any time, and it may not even be the surgeon's fault. No, it's like, you know, oh, God, that's terrible. But I said to him, people in London are charging like 110 now because the facelift, it's kind of the year of the facelift. Oh, my God, for sure. You know how we had the bum year for a while? Oh, God, and those turned out to be quite bad ideas. I think that there's a strong regret happening.

41:29Olivia Attwood:Yeah. A lot of those BBLs, which is, I think we all could have seen that coming. I want one maybe, but not a huge one. No, you don't. Not a big one. I've seen a skinny BBL. Just a small, yeah, I think we know someone maybe that had one. Yeah. And looks good, I have to say. Looks great. But he won't put his prices up. He's like, oh, it's just not ethical. So what does he charge? Mine was under 25. So the press have said it's 16 ,000, which I was offended by. I think they start at$16 ,000 and then at that clinic depending who but also that would be because he's in York as well yes it's a really bespoke price depending on what you need yeah yeah yeah but mine was like$22 ,000 or$23 ,000 which it's pretty like it's competitive when you compare it to$300 ,000 in America and I just think my facelift is so beautiful it's gorgeous it's achieved exactly what I wanted yeah and and were you deep plane yeah yeah yes because that's a big thing on the deep plane versus SMAS yes but deep plane is the you know the the gold standard right i think everyone's pretty much doing deep plane i don't know why chris jenner had smash i that's that yeah i don't know that i was talking to a surgeon about that and he was like i don't know either because it is for people that don't know it's it depends how many layers base they're pulling back how deep they go and so there's skill level there's risk level all those things get weighed up but especially at her age i have no idea why you wouldn't go into the deep plane maybe because she's already had facelifts scar tissues they couldn't there's all that stuff that is it if you get a facelift you can't you know the more you get it as we have seen in some celebs not ideal and how was bobby about you having the facelift he was an ass he didn't speak to me the night that i left for york oh no so he didn't go with you no it was me loading the car seat and the baby in my back he was pissed he was scared I think yeah scared about you or scared about what you he wouldn't recognize you because that's like I think a lot of men get in their own head they think they know what plastic surgery looks like and actually they have no idea they think it's like Bride of Wendelstein or whatever what's it called Bride of Jocelyn Wildenstein yeah and then they'll list off and go I just like natural girls like like Olivia Atwood I don't think anyone says that but yeah so they do that and then you're like oh honey you have no idea yeah do you think it was that I think that's what my daughter was afraid of she was against it as well Violet is so cool how old is Violet now?

43:5917 in June

44:00Olivia Attwood:she's so fucking cool because she holds herself like well just from what you see on social media I always thought I could know her but I feel like I could kind of do she holds herself older than that I think she does she's really good in the room she's got this calm confidence everybody likes Violet I love Violet she's my favorite hands down thank god But Bobby, I think, is more scared of death. Right. He catastrophizes. He's like, you are risking your life, and you're going to leave me with all these kids. Yeah. So I think he was just scared. But then the next day, I was such a brat. I just didn't text him.

44:34To let him know you're awake. To let him know I was going under, to let him know I was awake, nothing. I was like, access is the most valuable thing that I have, and I will remove access to me. A bit high maintenance, maybe. and then they were like can you please tell us your next of kin and I just picked the anaesthetist I was like him and they were like your husband I was like no I'm not speaking to him today and they were like okay and then the anaesthetist put his mobile number

45:01Olivia Attwood:no that's fucking amazing that's good yeah so he was nervous and then now I guess he probably thinks you look super hot I saw you guys attended the was it the Asian focateur launch oh god you were like I'm like, you're in a whole era right now, girl. Not yet. I have warned my enemies. No, you are. Come on. Like, you are. I will be. You look hot. I need the full year because I'm still breastfeeding. Like, my body holds on to a bit of weight when I'm breastfeeding. And, like, I'm not sleeping. So I've told my enemies. They have one year to assemble their things. Yep. And get the fuck out of the way.

45:36Olivia Attwood:Exactly. I will be the white Maya Gemma. That's what people are saying. I like that. That's a good reference. I should never have said that. Yeah. No, I was invited to this lingerie launch. And I misunderstood the brief, probably through sleeplessness. And it was this girl's launch. Women were going to be there. It was really this empowering collection that Emily A. Tack was fronting. And I wore pants from the collection instead of a dress. When you say pants, you wore lingerie, right? Yeah, but no one else did. Did they not? She kind of did. I thought, no. No. No one else did. And you did like a, what's it, like a nuns and vicars type, like, or hookers and vicars, what they're called.

46:24Olivia Attwood:And everyone else was more in like little dresses. And that's actually iconic. Absolutely that. It was very Bridget Jones. That's very funny. I didn't, I didn't, if it makes you feel better from observing online, I didn't take that way at all. But when you walked in the room, you're like, oh shit, people are not in the underwear. Yes. And everyone was really gracious about it. but and then he's like it's my party but whatever like you just steal the moment yeah well I was just trying to support but sometimes I love too hard because all the imagery yeah she's in this beautiful collection that's what I thought we were wearing yeah and didn't make that same mistake today talk no talking of um lingerie and things like that you've talked in the past about doing things with male gays where are you at with that now I do things for the male gays now yeah the gay the homosexuals is it like do you think about that because I now I'm thinking about it a lot again about if you do things for the male gays well I think I did for all my life oh because and then now I kind of think oh like you know what it is it's like I am a glam girl I like to get dressed up and stuff but now that I'm single, I think, you know, I used to really indulge if like, when I look ugly, I look fucking disgusting.

47:45Olivia Attwood:That's not true. It is. And now I think a little bit like, oh, I'm not, you know, I'm kind of, like, I'm a bit like a pet waiting to be like chosen. So I'm a bit like, I need to present myself a lot. I need to put makeup on and brush my hair a little bit more than I would. Because also any opportunities, like any outing could be like a meet cute. because I mean just in six months catch up with me, but I refuse to download dating apps. I just don't know. Something about it freaks me out. You can't do that. I just don't want to. So I'm going to have to meet the love of my life in the wild. So then I'm like, okay, I have to shower today.

48:19Olivia Attwood:And it's annoying. So I'm interested in a few things here. How you're going to meet someone is hopefully not for a long time because, you know, you've already been. Do you want that for me? Do you think I should be on my own a little bit? I think that heteronormative relationships are largely a scam. And I think that you can be in love with someone and partnered with them. It's really wonderful. And I do have an incredible husband. I love him. Objectively, I think he gets more from the relationship than I do. It's always, I always think, like you said, the man is getting so much more out of it.

48:57Those men, those nice men with the pain in the ass wife, they're not the killers. No. It'll be the one who's like, nicey, nicey, nicey. Then you ascend. You become the breadwinner. You're really beautiful and successful. And they're like, no. You know, that's when it's dangerous. So like, this is why I think you need to definitely stay off the apps. You will not meet someone through the apps. You need to, I think you might not even realize your potential in terms of like your career and what you want to do in your life and the rich experiences that you can have not in a romantic relationship. I think you should probably have three quite casual boyfriends at any given time so that you don't hyper focus onto any one of them and fall in love.

49:40Yeah, because I love the love feeling. I know. I love that dopamine. I know. I love it. But you need to find that elsewhere because there are women who would love to be you, would love to be doing what you're doing. And they're in this like marriage and they're like, oh, I can't or I didn't or I couldn't have, you know what I mean? and you really fucking can. Like, you can do whatever you want and it will only be the anchor of a man that prevents you from doing it and drags you down and distracts you. So, like, please don't be with anyone for a while. But then when you're ready to be with someone, you will have to be an introduction through a friend of a friend.

50:14Or, like, some mogul puts a word in with his publicist that he would like to meet. You know what I mean? So, you're not, we're not going to be on any apps. and if any like bum talks to you in the street you know thank you very much for the photo and you keep moving yeah okay because you we can't risk it we can't risk a dubai tinder swindler

50:40Olivia Attwood:no we don't want that no and i think i could be i could be at risk of that i have to i have to keep the lights on yeah your taste is not great because here's what you're doing if you let these boys around you they think they deserve someone like you and they don't and then when you eventually get bored and leave they're just going to be alone forever wandering the planet because no one else is no one like you is going to talk to them again they don't know they deserve trash and then they're not going to you know what i mean they're just going to be so lonely so you're being mean oh shit so i'm actually setting them up for a disappointment okay yeah because you're the only one that's gonna let them in anyone else like you is hopefully healed and is not going to give them the time of day and they don't deserve you so you just leave them for a while leave them alone as for the male gaze i don't have to worry about that because i'm over 40 so like they're not you know what i mean i i present myself the way i want i want to look hot for like women and for the male gaze that i mentioned i don't even think my husband likes the style of hot that i want to be like celine dion i don't know if he's into her like sort of long floating dressing gowns to dinner with like fur cuffs and he's like god this shit again he doesn't like me speaking french i'll tell you that can you speak french yes i can is that like a canadian thing yeah but he doesn't speak it and we went to the same school so um before we move on to that quickly just in case anyone is under a rock thank Thank you for that pep talk.

52:15Olivia Attwood:That was very inspiring. I mean it. I'm really passionate about it. No, I actually really love you. Thank you. Okay.

52:24Olivia Attwood:This episode is brought to you by Diet Coke. Okay, stop what you're doing. It's time for a Diet Coke break. So my ideal situation would be I'm in the park, I've got the dogs, I've got a cold can of Diet Coke in my handbag, crack it open, sit on a bench, have a little social media scroll, and then I just feel recharged to basically attack the rest of my day. Because it can't all be about the hustle, can it? We all need a break sometimes and that's why Diet Coke is teaming up with The Devil Wears Prada 2, one of the most anticipated movies of the year in cinemas May 1st. They're giving you a chance to win the break everybody wants, a trip to New York.

53:04Olivia Attwood:All you have to do is scan the QR code on your Diet Coke and upload your receipt for a chance to win. Plus, there are hundreds of daily prizes, including cinema tickets and exclusive Diet Coke and the Devil Wears Prada 2 merch up for grabs. So scan the QR code on your Diet Coke for a chance to win the break everybody wants. T's and C's apply. See coke.co.uk.

53:29Olivia Attwood:Talking of school, you went to high school with your husband. If anyone doesn't know this story, then you just obviously don't have the internet. But he dumped you at prom. Sorry to bring it up for the millionth time. Too soon. too soon for the new face what was that experience what was that experience like how would he say by then we'd split up a few times okay so it wasn't like completely out of left field no he'd been weird all week i mean we're talking about children yeah we really are he and his friends had entered the high school before prom i was head of the prom committee i've been decorating for weeks i'd been busy and he sort of was stonewalling me a little bit and on that day he had entered the high school and put whiskey in the ceiling okay in the tile yes of the boys toilets so then they could drink during the prom and he's still like this now like if he's had a drink he's a little bit like arcy and he was dancing with someone else and he was kind of ignoring me all night we'd done the photos and everything together so I just like confronted him in the corridor and I was like what is going on with us and he was like well I don't want to be with you anymore and I was wearing a tiara I feel like that's a really inappropriate time to break up with someone So I responded.

54:41And you know those stories, I don't know if you have any stories like this, where you tell it in 2026, and there's a police investigation because it's absolutely not allowed now. But at the time, it was kind of fine. Like Ruby Rose, her latest accusation against Katy Perry, apparently police are investigating this now. And she's like, I'm in my 40s. When I originally told this story, it was like a drunk funny story. Who knows if it's true or not. but um I said to someone

55:09Olivia Attwood:Gen Z the other day I was talking about that boys in my school they'd do this thing like I'd be writing and then they'd put their nutsack on the table yeah next like do you know what I mean so you'd just be writing and then you'd look and there'd be balls and then the teacher would be like Oscar put your bollocks away like it was that casual do you know what I mean that's how we grew up and this is what Bobby's saying so again if you haven't seen this Ruby Rose who's a model and actress from Australia the allegation is that she was resting on her friend's lap in a club or something. And Katy Perry came over, pulled her underwear to one side and, quote, rubbed her disgusting vagina on my face and then I project I vomited on her.

55:47Jesus Christ. End quote. So that's the allegation, which Katy Perry rigorously denies. She's too busy at Coachella with the ex. My former prednister. What a loser. He looks like Bart Simpson.

55:59Olivia Attwood:Did you see him in the backwards cap? Yes, I saw him in a backwards cap. Like, what a loser. We are living in a simulation. I'm sure this can't all be like natural occurring events. I actually refuse to believe it. I don't believe it either at this point. It's fucking insane. But anyway, yeah. So Bobby broke up with me. Yeah. And then I thought, right, I've had enough of this boy. And I really did love him. And my heart had been broken a few times already. I just went, I need to make sure I don't go back to him. So after the prom at the after party, I got off with one of the security guards. Nice.

56:30Who was 31 years old. Yeah.

56:32Olivia Attwood:And that's kind of, you know, what? Do you know what I call that? I love it. Burning the ships. I burned the ships. Doing something that it's like you know they can't. Even if you know you could go back, you do something to like, it's kind of like a shag their mate kind of. Right. Now it's done. We've burned them. Instead of shagging their mate, I chose an adult man who'd been employed to protect us at our high school prom. So that's the that's the, you know. But you didn't realize how fucked up that was until now. And can I say it was not for me to realize as a young woman how fucked up that was like he was a predator and he was in the wrong even though it was very much my idea he did not resist or say well this is really weird you're a child you know what I mean yeah it makes me so sick now as a mother like like just my daughter that was my daughter's age so how do you navigate having a nearly a 17 year old like and how do you I mean she's got her head screwed on and she's smart but like how do you not do that thing where you I don't know take all the joy and whimsy out of life but also like let her know how scary men are like how the fuck do you even navigate that because I feel like that would be really I'd find that really difficult because I wouldn't I'd just look at everyone like I know how men think about teenage girls but i also wouldn't want to destroy my teenagers joie de vie yeah like they're kind of like yeah they're i think um my material is widely available and she's seen it from birth like she knows my position yeah on men and she thankfully is has a real black cat energy with men i was a golden retriever like very much oh i hope i have a boyfriend like i was quite submissive in all of my relationships I've been in coercive controlling relationships that didn't have a name at the time he was just like an aggressive dick at the time like we didn't have language like that always dated older guys always found myself in these like horrible places I just don't worry about Violet like that she's so cool about men and boys right now she just not she just doesn't have that energy so I have a son and two subsequent daughters if they have a different personality, I might have to think quite carefully because one thing I don't want to do is, I've spoken about before when my friend was murdered by her ex, I came home in floods of tears, like totally shocked.

59:04And my mom's response was very cold. She was, of course, devastated as well. The whole town was. But my mom was like, yeah, sometimes if you leave them, they'll kill you. And I was like, what? Pardon me. And she was like, yeah, it happens all the time, actually. and I was like and that wrote on the canvas of who I was it created this like fear in me and I don't think my mom was in the wrong for giving me like accurate statistics at that time but I wonder sometimes if I would have maybe chosen men who were less dangerous if I didn't grow up with the narrative that all men were dangerous do you know what I mean?

59:41Olivia Attwood:Wait do you feel like you chose dangerous men because you felt they'd protect you? I don't know yeah I I'm not fully like looked back on my life and bobby is not one of those men by the way no my friend was killed after i started dating bobby so that's why i think like he was a good choice yeah lovely nice gentle guy yeah then my mom told me that and i don't know if i just felt like i needed to seek out like very stimulating difficult to predict wild individuals but i spent a few years doing that but i feel like me and you were very similar like growing up because i was the same I'm like, I would be right for the picking for a security guard prom.

1:00:18Olivia Attwood:Because also, I just wanted men and boys to like me. So I kind of, I would always prioritize that over my own boundaries, which I think would surprise people that don't know us. Or they just listen to like, sort of soundbites of stuff that we both say. People would probably think that I was like, at high school, but I wasn't. Like, whatever, if I had the boyfriends I had, whatever they wanted and I was a chameleon I changed I was like Kourtney Kardashian my aesthetic changed on a fucking swivel whoever I dated that's like I yeah I went from emo to like skater girl to you know like sort of plastic chav like whatever I I just blended yeah but I and then I only really kind of found a real true sense of self I'd say like in my early mid-20s I started to and it got better and better and better until now I know who I am I know what I like know what I don't like but it's taken a while I wonder if we do have just because of our generation yeah the girl band generation the time the very interesting moment in feminism when we grew up I wonder if we have internalized misogyny that we undermine ourselves because I think you've always been an overachiever you've always been really brave you've sought out opportunities that maybe other girls your age didn't have the courage to do.

1:01:42I was always an overture. I was doing stuff. I was excelling at things that I tried and taking a lot of risks. So maybe that's why we've chosen these historical relationships where we're really submissive. I think so.

1:01:55Olivia Attwood:And also, you have the Hooters background. You wave to the Hooters. I was a monster girl, like grid girl, boxing rings. Those things are catered to the patriarchy. But I always felt very empowered when I was doing it. But actually, if you take a step back, and I actually, I still stand by my viewpoint on the Monster Girl thing and everything it provided me at that time. And it actually got me away from one really particularly bad relationship. So I actually cherish that time. But I can see, you know, the issue. I mean, we had to, we were all like the same as it would have been Hooters. Like there was one hairstyle, there was one nail color.

1:02:32Olivia Attwood:There was one uniform size, basically. Like, you know, that was it. You fit into it or don't come. Yeah. And I kind of, even though I was always quite gobby, I was happy to fall in line because I wanted to fit into that. But we're not like a Martian. You can't take yourself out of the culture that you grew up in. It very much was the message that you should be, you know, amenable to this archetype if you wanted to be successful. And don't be distracted by Oscar's balls on the table. Doesn't mean you get to stop doing your maths work. Get your bollocks off the table, Oscar. Not again. Can you imagine today?

1:03:10Olivia Attwood:Oh my God, there'd be an investigation. There'd be a safeguarding meeting, yeah. There was that. They used to do the pulling down of people's pants. They used to do it debagging. They'd pull down each other's pants. That was boy on girl crime, boy on boy crime, that one. I saw dicks. I saw vaginas. They used to do that all the time. What else? Can I tell you something that I've never told anyone that I did? When I was in high school, we were the Northern Vikings. and the other team was the St. Christopher's Cyclones. And I cannot believe I did this. I just thought it was funny. I didn't think about hurting anyone or whatever.

1:03:46I was not a sportswoman.

1:03:48Olivia Attwood:Okay. But we went to the girls' basketball game. We don't have netball in Canada. We're allowed to, you know, wear shorts when we play sports. And so they were quite, you know, handsome women on the team, strong and talented. And I made a massive banner with my bitchy little girlfriends. and instead of cyclones it said um diaclones no i forget what it said likest christopher's diaclones i think that's all it said just like oh it said go home diaclones that's what it said and i like unraveled this banner and that was allowed no teacher but i didn't know they were like great pun katherine always what but i didn't we did not have the information no well that's how all get canceled someone from high school like dig out an old like film photograph of me holding this but me and lgbtqai plus ally who wishes no harm to anyone wanting to live their life in their most authentic way holding this go home dyke clones banner i thought it was so clever i was like right get it because some of them are lesbians and it's like yeah but also it's like you just assume because they play basketball they all were but there's probably like two lesbians in the whole team be like you're all dykes because you play basketball it just wasn't like you say it's It's like all the slurs and the insults we used to call each other at school that were so standard.

1:05:05Olivia Attwood:Yeah. But now, like, you know, they're cancelable words. It's just, things have rightly so moved on. But also they've moved on quite quickly, I think, especially for us millennial people. It's kind of like, it's been a little bit whiplash. Okay, before you go, Catherine, I want to play a game with you. Truth or trash? So I'm going to read you some quotes. If you said it, it's truth. If you didn't, it's trash. so we're testing your memory here yeah because as like me you sell all the stuff i'm very sleep deprived for this game yeah okay having a dick would qualify you for disability insurance true you said it correct it was on paloma face podcast i mean i worked at an insurance firm no yeah that i mean it doesn't need much more um explanation than that i don't think no i just think men are a liability to themselves a lot of times and i was uh having a conversation with Paloma about trust and I don't trust them at all I think every man on earth is one stupid mistake away from exploding his whole life every day and I've I've heard that we've had this conversation I've heard that that quote and I know it riles people up yeah and that's just how you feel but no I I despite this is nothing to do I've told you what I agree with that wholeheartedly have always thought that because this is a generalization massively men do often do things that could destroy their entire lives just because all the blood rushes their dick for like 30 seconds yeah and even they're upset when they do it they're like oh what well i mean i had a with a straight male friend you know i was had a really graphic description about like this post not clarity and it sounds actually horrifying when they actually which also this is so misogynistic and I'm not, I have no sympathy for them.

1:06:53Olivia Attwood:But when he described it, he was like, it's like the minute like the semen's left the end of your penis, he's like, it's like shallow hell. You turn around and you're like, he's like literally your whole body, the men in the room are really laughing. He's like, and then he's like, you feel disgusting. You feel like horrible. Like all these things. I was like, God, it sounds fucking awful. Biology really riles people up. I know. In a progressive society. But like we are still animals at the end of the day. And I could see why post-nut clarity makes, you know, evolutionary sense. Please can that be in the description for this episode?

1:07:29For like propagating the species, right? They have to get it in on a very animalistic level. I think, do you know what I mean? Hopefully many men have moved on from this. But yeah, Bobby told me about post-nut clarity as well. It's as you've heard it described. It's been corroborated by a few men.

1:07:43Olivia Attwood:It must be pretty horrendous. being a female comic beauty and mother is the hardest job but someone's got to do it i don't think i said that yeah you didn't it's trash who said it no one it just made up i think beauty and mother is the hardest job that's ai said that being a female comic beauty and mother is the hardest job but someone's got to do it no no okay having a teenage daughter is like giving birth to your high school bully yes truth so on your stand-up wasn't it i really like that in the sense that when you sort of come downstairs in the morning, she just gives you the kind of up and down.

1:08:22Olivia Attwood:Yeah, she's just so intimidating and like cool. And you want her to like you so much. Yeah, but she doesn't. That's not true. You will see women dating younger men, but I promise you that is by accident. Truth. Also doing one of your stand-up tours. I was talking about how like there will be women who date younger men now, but it's not the same predatory intention of like, I want someone young so that I can dominate and control them. It's not that. It's like a shameful thing. My mom is married to a much younger man. How much younger? 18 years. Ooh, I said, but when they first got together, that was like, hmm.

1:09:02When they first got together, I was in high school and he broke up with the most popular girl in my high school for my mom. Although he denies that. He says like, we had broken up and then I met. He sounds like a fucking legend. Yeah. He says we had broken up and then organically I met your mother. But in this girl's mind, this girl's narrative was. Yeah. Yeah. He left her for my mom and then she made my life a living hell. And he is my stepdad now, Abe the babe. And he's 48.

1:09:37Olivia Attwood:That's amazing. Your mom sounds like an icon. on motherhood is just doing stand-up for an audience that heckles you no trash trash true you didn't say that divorce men are excellent because divorce humbles them truth yes and my husband knows he can't do better than me because he already tried and I love that he's divorced that is so maybe i should consider a divorcee yeah although yes it's true it's dicey out there oh well i know because the issue i have is well people can be married without kids and i'm the date the pool's gonna be small i would like not to date someone with kids because if i don't want my own why the fuck do i want yours around well if they're if they're like 20 yeah that would be fine i really like you oh my gosh that is what you need like adult kids and then you can be a glamour like you still get to be a grandmother one day and you have like this busy house but you don't have to any of the um that kind of that real tie to them that emotion or anything real i can be the cool one i think you will have kids though i'm sorry oh shit do you actually because last time i we did a podcast you thought no no i said no oh you said i could feel that that was not maybe the place oh you said to me like don't go home and get pregnant and you were fucking on the money than that one yeah can you imagine the like red tape the admin right now even having like two dogs yeah i don't know how people navigate the kit is fucking it's like yeah hats off to anyone in the in that because it's yeah it's tough um oh my god i've raised a tory oh yeah that was from your netflix show i'd forgotten about that was that about violet she was she came a little period of tourism?

1:11:29Well, yes. A brief period when she was about 10. I think she got some ideas from a family member. And she was like, well, it does make sense. Like if you come into the country and then you take all the jobs, like the job should be for the people who live. And I was like, what? But that was very brief. And she's incredibly left wing now. Is she like woke? Green party. Oh, she's green. All the kids are green. Well, all the kids are green. Yeah. Okay. Once you get to be over 40 with a second property, playfully right wing.

1:12:01Olivia Attwood:I don't want to pay as much taxes. And also, yeah, to be honest, same. I love having you here. It's always a good conversation. It's always a vibe. It's just a testament to your hospitality in your house that I thought we had spoken about everything that could be discussed, but you found some new things. and you know you said some very nice things for me today and I didn't grow up in that kind of family so it's highly uncomfortable to me but I've sat I've kind of lent through it but see now that's a breakthrough it's the German it's the German and it's just the way yeah like I think the way like my you know my sister and we all send each of these memes that we come for each other like you know little finger on the shoulder like it's this yeah it's not touchy but also I I always think as well, I want to kind of push through that because if and when I have my own kids, I don't want it to be like that.

1:12:52Olivia Attwood:Yeah. So I kind of, I need to get over it. So it's good for me to sit through some nice compliments about like that heaving. And I'm not very nice. Nope. Mean girl. Before you leave, who should I have in the house next? Who would you refer for membership? Sky's the limit. You could get some great guests on this show. Number one, Celine Dion. Dolly Parton. Oh my God. Important to have her on. Yeah. Shania Twain is doing some shows soon in the UK. Okay. She might need to promote those. Okay, that's Shania Twain, write her down. Because like I would kick a door off the hinges. I can give you her number.

1:13:31Olivia Attwood:Fuck off. You are on text in terms of Shania. Of course you are, Canadian. Well, I don't think, I think it's an Ed Sheeran situation where like someone brings her a phone or like tells her the highlights. I don't think. She doesn't. She's very unplugged. Oh, is she? Yeah, she goes and writes music in the Bahamas. Her story is wild as well. The best friend and the husband, and then she couldn't sing. She's like, Ariel. Okay, right. So you're having Shania Twain. Yeah, yeah. Okay, that's a good one. And she looks so fucking hot right now. It's insane. And when we worked together, it was pre-Facelift.

1:14:03Olivia Attwood:It was this one of Canada's Got Talent? Yeah. Yeah, and wait, that was before Facelift. Yeah. But she still looks... No, not her, me. Oh, you? I was not yet pregnant with Holland. I hadn't had a Facelift, obviously, but I had it in the pipeline and I sat next to her every day as a judge and I looked at her face she's unbelievable she has I don't think she's had any plastic surgery as a connoisseur of plastic surgery I do not think she has you just think she's just hot yes and like good maintenance good skin care good hair good shit I looked and looked and looked and looked for the scars I saw and I trust your eye there's not many people's eye I trust on that but you know your shirt she'd be like she's like why is this girl like trying to get into my hairline I'm just gonna scooch on back there who should I ban for life Pete Wicks

1:14:51I don't want him in this house past 8pm we leave the podcast there

We’re joined by one of the UK’s sharpest comedians, Katherine Ryan! Known for her brutally honest takes, razor-sharp one-liners and ability to say exactly what everyone else is thinking, Katherine brings her signature wit with a sisterly side to this conversation.

From her rise in comedy to becoming one of the most recognisable voices in British entertainment, Katherine opens up about beauty, ageing and the realities of being a woman in the spotlight, including the SHOCKING price she was quoted for a facelift and why she chose not to tell anyone before going through with it.

We get straight into it: relationships, trust, and why she believes men are always “one mistake away from blowing up their lives.” Katherine also turns her attention to Olivia’s dating life, delivering brutally honest, big-sister advice with so much warmth it catches Olivia off guard. It’s equal parts savage and supportive, and impossible not to love.

They also dive into her take on being high maintenance and why more women should own it, before getting into a hilariously honest discussion about “post nut clarity” and what it really says about modern relationships. Plus we get Katherine’s reactions to celebrity drama including Nikki Glaser on Call Her Daddy, Alex vs Alix, and the chaos of the online world.

Katherine also recounts wild stories from her school years, the things she somehow got away with, and what life looks like now with a teenage daughter and three young children.

Unfiltered and effortlessly funny with a side of tough love, this is Katherine Ryan at her absolute best.
