In short

Sports-heavy “Grit Week” episode covering Kentucky Derby betting, NBA playoffs (Sixers–Celtics Game 7; Knicks–Hawks blowout; Pistons–Magic; Cavs–Raptors; Rockets–Lakers), NHL playoffs (overtime hockey mention), plus a “Fyre Fest” segment. The hosts also debate coaching/offense patterns (Celtics three-point reliance), injuries, and playoff momentum.

Guests (and backgrounds)

  • Randy Moss: 10-time Kentucky Derby picks contributor; former NFL wide receiver (widely known, referenced as “our good friend”).
  • Conor Daly: IndyCar racer; discusses driving/racing.

Key claims / storylines

  • Sixers–Celtics: Sixers are playing their best basketball (Joel Embiid “controlled” style; Paul George not Tobias Harris). Celtics are portrayed as one-dimensional—“spam threes” with no backup plan when shots don’t fall. Jason Tatum’s calf injury is discussed; expectation is he plays.
  • Knicks–Hawks: Knicks “whomped” Atlanta, winning by 51; road team scoring 100 before home team hits 50 is cited as a rare playoff stat. Knicks starters were pulled in the third; bench also scored.
  • Celtics future: Confidence depends on hitting ~35%+ from three; otherwise they “live by the three, die by the three.”
  • Rockets–Lakers: Concern about toxicity if Lakers blow a 3-0 lead; Kevin Durant ruled out for Game 6 (mentioned early).

Notable examples

Embiid style change; Celtics wide-open threes missing; Knicks first-quarter 40–15 and 61-point third-quarter lead; Deuce McBride plus-minus record context; Dennis Schröder “revenge game” vs Hawks; Harden minutes concern; NHL overtime cruelty (Penguins vs Flyers mentioned).

0:00PFT Commenter:Hey, Pardon My Take listeners, you can find every episode on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Prime members can listen ad-free on Amazon Music. Okay guys, it's Grit Week. This is the part of the football calendar where nobody's watching but everything gets built. Early mornings, pads back on, conditioning, film, reps, spring training in football is all about putting in the work when nobody's cheering yet. And honestly, that's the same mindset behind the Chevy Silverado. This is a truck that is the definition of grit. Long days, dirty work, and showing up day after day no matter the conditions. Strong, dependable, and built for the grind.

0:41PFT Commenter:Because grit isn't about being flashy. It's about being ready when it's time to go. Check out the current offers and build your Silverado at Chevy.com. That's Silverado, all grit, no quit. And you can build your Silverado at Chevy.com today. I'm so sorry. Stop. I'm so sorry. Stop. Stop. Shut up. Shut up. Stop. We got to save for the show. Jesus Christ. Okay, here we go. On today's part of my take presented by DraftKings, we've got a twofer for the people we have randy moss our good friend 10 years in a row kentucky derby picks with randy moss uh also bonus zach thought we were interviewing the other randy moss so we have some questions for the other randy moss through our randy moss we also have indycar racer connor daly in studio awesome dude awl really cool guy uh talks about race car driving We've got a game seven.

1:50PFT Commenter:We're going to talk some NBA playoffs. We're going to talk some NHL playoffs. We've got a game seven, and then we'll finish up with some Fyre Fest, and it's all brought to you by our friends at Chevy. Our AWLs know that Chevy Silverado is the official truck. Pardon my take. That's because Silverado is a truck with grit that shows up every time. Built to haul tow and take a beating, but smart where it counts with modern tech that makes life easier. Big screens, available camera views that help with towing and parking in a cabin that feels right. Whether you're road tripping, heading to practice, or loading up for the weekend, during the season, it's the MVP of the tailgate.

2:23PFT Commenter:After the season, it turns into your training camp truck, hauling gear, tackling home projects, and doing the work that never stops. Because the grind doesn't take breaks, neither does Silverado. Check out the current offers and build your Silverado at Chevy.com. Okay, let's go.

3:04PFT Commenter:Welcome to Part of My Take presented by DraftKings. The crown is yours. Today is Friday, May 1st. And boys, God is an AWL because we have a game seven on Saturday, Sixers versus Celtics in Vegas. We will be for Max Delente's bachelor party. We will be partying all weekend and it will be Max, his two brothers, Jerry O 'Connell versus Henry Lockwood and the Don in a game seven. I cannot wait I cannot wait

3:46Big Cat:I'm so excited about this I was about to open up the show by saying congrats Max and we'll get to congrats Max but really congrats us and congrats everyone who listens because you're the real winners out there I'm so pumped up to see what Hank is going to be like for this show I'm so pumped up to get Max who is like fully believing in his team again And I'm just excited. I'm really, really pumped for this weekend. And I'm going to be a watcher. I'm going to be an AWL just like everybody else today. I want to hear Hank and Max. I want to hear what you guys have to say. Congratulations, Max. Game seven.

4:22Big Cat:The Sixers did it.

4:24PFT Commenter:And before we get to Max and Hank, I just want to say, because a lot of AWLs, they're very invested in this, obviously. We will have clips of it. We're not going to live stream because we're going to be partying all day. But we will have clips throughout the whole thing. Max, before you joined, Hank tried to say, I thought we weren't doing clips all weekend. He tried to get us on a technicality. No, that's just your words. That's what you said over and over. I didn't realize that you guys were going to be on the precipice of blowing a 3-1 lead. I thought the series was over. Maybe I wouldn't have come to.

4:59I was sold to the bachelor party with no social media.

5:04PFT Commenter:Okay, so this is the route you're going to take. I didn't know which route you were going to take. you said the series was over Hank I'm pretty sure I'm the one that said if God's an AWL the series will go 7 and I said after they lost I'm pretty sure I did and then after they lost on whatever it was Tuesday I was like this game is going 7 it's happening

5:28PFT Commenter:Max congratulations why don't you guys just talk it out it was a good game for the Philadelphia 76ers I don't know what else to say If you talk in the mic, it's echoey.

5:41It was a good game. I'm really happy that that's the hill you're going to die on. Okay, it was a good game for the Philadelphia 76ers. He's picking everything, Max. He's going to pick everything except the game. Yeah, no, it's – I mean, this is just classic Hank playbook. He starts to lose. He gets pouty-pouty. He starts firing at everybody else except for himself and his own team. It's fine. It's fine. I get it. It's a good series. The Sixers are playing the best basketball I think I've ever seen them play right now. Joel Embiid is playing a different style of basketball than he's played in this series.

6:14He's playing controlled. Paul George is not Tobias Harris, and that is very evident. The Sixers are playing really good basketball right now. The Celtics have way more depth. It's a long series. The guys are playing a lot of minutes. We're going to go down to game seven. If the Celtics get hot from three, which they probably will due to the law of averages, They're probably going to win the basketball game, but the Sixers are playing the best basketball I think I've ever seen them play right now.

6:41Big Cat:Tell me more about the law of averages. I mean, the Celtics can't hit anything right now, and they're one of the most efficient offenses in the NBA. So you have to think that at some point it's going to turn back around.

6:57PFT Commenter:Max, are you nervous at all that Jason Tatum might not play in game seven because of his calf injury? He's going to play. Okay. okay i don't think i'm nervous about that i mean i don't know i think coming back off an injury it's like that might be one of those telltale signs of like do not play yeah i think that's

7:14Big Cat:it's definitely a possibility yeah yeah i think it's a big possibility yeah he looked he looked like he was worried about game seven when he checked himself out what was he calling it the kinetic chain of muscles but jalen brown also didn't play missoula no yeah missoula they they He called it with 10 minutes to go. The stay ready boys were ready. They looked like they were going to make a run there for a second. They showed heart. They were fighting, at least. Because the starters were not fighting.

7:50PFT Commenter:I don't like how we literally before. This is why we always have to wait to record. You guys were doing the cry face to each other two seconds ago. Now you're agreeing on shit? well i was just telling max like maybe if you do a podcast like you should have a microphone that works and then he started bitching at me that was off the record then you guys look safe for the show we haven't had a zoom show in months and my and i just plugged in my microphone for the first time in a while and it wasn't working i was trying to get it to work i'm sorry that it wasn't working don't say sorry to me say sorry to all the fans okay hey fans it is i am so so deeply sorry that you're not listening to me in front of my$50 microphone right here.

8:34I'm – Hank, everything I say is just like – He's doing a lot of faces. Like you're such – like every time you lose, you're such a little pouty bitch every single time. I'm just saying you can get a nice microphone. You are. You can have a nice microphone. Zach, like – Look at Zach. I'm sorry that it's not working. I'm sorry. We've never had any tech issues in our lives. Not when I was running back. Oh, yeah. We want to go down that road? Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, you want to go? Get out of here. How about the lenses for Chris Berman? Do you want to talk about how you use your cell phone to record that?

9:19Yeah, that was a bad delegation by me, but I had my camera ready. Never had any problems when I was producing. Never had any problems when I was producing. I would at least bring microphones. I would make sure for a podcast, step one microphone. Hey, Boomer, what do you think about – what was your favorite call of your life, huh? He sounded good. Great producing. He sounded great, actually.

9:44PFT Commenter:That was good. What about – you never – I'm trying to just – Dick interview? I'm just trying to talk. We had microphones. They didn't have batteries. No, they had batteries. No, we used the camera microphone. Yeah, that was a recorder issue, but the microphones were there. The microphones were working great. All right, so, Max, because your microphone sucks and people have to deal with this, would you be so gracious to say that you're fine with having clips of Game 7 go out for the Sixers Celtics? I mean, I don't know why you're most likely you're minus three, 10 to win this game. I don't know why you are scared of clips.

10:30If anything, I should be the one that's scared of clips.

10:33PFT Commenter:True. Yeah. Yeah. Why are you scared of clips, Hank? I'm not scared of clips at all. I'm ready for war. Like I know. I don't think we were doing clips. I know. I just like, we've talked about this bachelor party for months and it's always been like, no social media, no social media. Again, we didn't know there was going to be game seven, dude. I know. I'm just, I'm, but like, that's, I'm, I'm ready for clips. I'm ready for war. I'm ready to go. It's me versus the world, and that's fine. But you're not because you said there's no social media. I'm just repeating what you said over and over and over again.

11:00PFT Commenter:Obviously, the situation has changed, Hank, with Game 7 on the horizon. Yeah, that's fair. Hank, listen. This is Game 7, Sixers versus Celtics. You win this game every single time. The way you're reacting is honestly shocking. It is shocking that you're not just going to get into this. I agree. Because the way this is shaping up right now is it. It's Sixers-Celtics. Yeah. The way he's shipping up right now is absolutely perfect for Hank

11:24Big Cat:the way that it's gone in years past, where finally your hopes are up. Finally, you're believing. You're feeling good. Every time in the past Hank has won this game, it's a little bit concerning to me that Hank is not confident at all going into this game. I didn't say I wasn't confident. You're not acting confident. I never said that either. I just don't want 15-second clips of me going out on the Internet. I never said that. I never said I didn't want clips. I just was like, I didn't know we were doing that. Yes, you did. I want clips. We talked about it. I want clips. I want clips. Yes, you did.

11:56We should live stream. Let's live stream.

11:58PFT Commenter:I would like to, but I understand that there's other things at play. Like, you know, we'll probably be in a place with loud music and shit like that. Probably not the smartest thing to put that out on YouTube. But clips we can do. Agreed. You did it right before we started. I did not. I'm ready. I'm ready for war. I'm excited for this game. I I'm just sad that like this celebration of max is going to have to go like this again. Like it's, it's, I love my boy and I wanted to just be good vibes all weekend. And I'm just now going to have to, again, the fact that there's going to be three of them and Jerry, it's like, it is what it is.

12:37It is what it is. We're here. God's an AWL and we're going to war. That's that's, it's that simple. I like the game time. I need to know what time this game is going to happen.

12:48PFT Commenter:Yeah. I saw you. Why are you so obsessed with the game time? It's just – it's a big variable. What would be your preferred game time? I hope it's early. Early. You want early? Yeah. What happens if it runs into Kygo? That would suck. That's – yeah. We have to cancel Kygo. Yeah, I know. I already pre-canceled. Oh, okay. All right. So this game – I mean, playoff P is – I tweeted it, but like playoff P, but for real this time. He's been awesome in this series. You see, his defense has been awesome. Like, the Sixers, Embiid has been awesome. It feels like the Sixers have, you know, outside of, you know, I don't know what you would draft him.

13:28PFT Commenter:I mean, Jason Tatum being kind of injured. The Sixers just have better players right now. Is that fair to say? I mean, the way the Maxie's playing, yes. Right. I think it is. Right.

13:41Big Cat:So, yeah, I mean, it's just. And also, yeah, you can say that, but also, like, the Celtics, they're not hitting in any threes, and they don't seem to have a backup plan for when the threes don't fall. That's the issue. It's like plenty of teams go cold from three, but they usually have something else that they can try to pivot to. You know what? I'm going to do our friend Joe Mazzullo a favor. Hank, I'm going to do you a favor. I'm going to put Joe Mazzullo on a hot seat. He probably wants to be on the hot seat.

14:10PFT Commenter:He wants to be on the hot seat.

14:12Big Cat:But like in the games that the Celtics have lost in these playoffs, it's been like spamming threes. Threes don't fall. No backup plan. Just continue to shoot. And at some point you have to do something a little bit different. And he hasn't done it. So Missoula, hot seat. You're welcome.

14:31PFT Commenter:I don't think they have anything different. I think they're just going to spam threes again. Their offense does look stagnant. But they can't keep missing at this clip. They can't keep missing at this clip. Yeah, and being home helps. The third quarter, they had a million wide-open threes, and they just couldn't hit any. The Sixers were begging for them to get back in the game, and the Celtics just couldn't hit a shot. I am fully aware that that isn't going to happen three games in a row. Yeah. Hank, is there anything else about this game? You're mad at us right now. I get it. I hate it when you guys put words in my mouth.

15:11PFT Commenter:you're not mad you're happy with us i'm excited for this weekend okay okay i am too this is going to be great the delante brothers are going to be great jerry o 'connell don't think he understands what color the sixers wear i called him and i was like i need a statement on who you're going to be rooting for he's like i was convinced it was going to be nick celtic so i bought a blue suit and i was like well that still works for the for the sixers and he's like yeah but they've been wearing a lot of black this series i was like but they their colors are still blue so jerry o 'connell will be rooting for for max and the delante brothers i believe okay interesting yeah yeah it feels like that's going to be it so it's going to be a four on two have you talked to the don at all hank yeah and is he locked in oh yeah he's ready to go i don't i don't know that yes no

16:03Big Cat:he's too concerned with these scientists dying

16:07PFT Commenter:that's important stuff it is important stuff some things are bigger than sports BFT it's going to be great and guess what Sunday's podcast is going to be great too because we're going to get a hungover loser out of this no matter what and that person is going to be in hell absolute hell on Sunday night wouldn't you agree Max is playing with house money fact that's a fact like i don't think if they lose he's going to be all that upset well i mean you you'll probably he'll i mean the celtics were minus 900 to win this series damn correct i know that's what so like if i if the celtics lose then yeah yeah yeah and you're

16:51Big Cat:going to be but in the history of the show if you identify one guy as being like the hungover loser guy historically we got one of those yeah because if the Sixers get embarrassed Max will just go

17:04PFT Commenter:even harder on Saturday night right exactly he's gonna drink his way out of it oh man I'm excited are any last words on the game on the series I have one I have one thing to say yeah please I have one question to ask yes the way I've been watching this series

17:26the Sixers are playing very good basketball right now. I do think the Celtics probably will move on from this series. What is your look at in the future of the Celtics? Because this team is not as good as I thought they were.

17:40Big Cat:Good question. Regardless of how Game 7 goes, what's the state of the Celtics right now? Our star player tore his Achilles less than a year ago. So, you know, he only played 20 games. It was still like. But I don't think he's the biggest problem right now. He's playing like pretty well. Jalen Brown, I don't know if he's pissed off the refs. He's had nine offensive fouls this series. It's like insane that he just keeps doing it. He's playing a lot of iso ball. The Celtics are like this, though, and they've been like this since 2022, 2023. When they lose, it's disgusting and they lose in horrific fashion.

Read the full transcript

18:20but they can flip the switch and turn it around that quickly. Like the, the, the people, the Boston people that I follow that are all like, you know, calling from Missoula trade Jalen Brown, like that is overdramatic. And that actually makes me feel better that this is when the Celtics do thrive. They come together. They win by 40. They use that momentum and they keep going. So that, that's what I think is going to happen.

18:44PFT Commenter:They're going to win by 40. Yes. But even if they win by 40, you would come out of this series and be like, I'm still confident in this team going forward? That's a good question. If we can shoot by 35 % or better, then yeah. We live by the three. We die by the three. The games we lost, we miss every single three. We've shot under 30 % in all the games we've lost. That's just the team game plan. That's the strategy that Missoula and Brad Stevens have when they built this team. It was to make threes. So it's like, yeah, it is frustrating to watch when they don't make threes. but that is how this team is built.

19:20So you live by the three, you die by the three. If we can just hit 35%, we're going to win, and we're going to win a lot of games. That's how the team's built. I trust Brad Stevens. I trust Missoula. So, yeah, I'm still confident, but the Sixers are good. I mean, the Sixers, they got good players.

19:42PFT Commenter:Who's your third best player, Hank? I mean I think that's the biggest that's what Max is really asking and that's what the real problem is is that in the past Derek White has been very good Chris Stops has been there but it feels like there's not a third guy that is like we can rely on him to a point where you need that when you're going into a playoff unfortunately he has the yips he was missing like bunny floater layups Derek White's been bad Vucevic has been bad. Pritchard has, like, he needs to not be the primary option. So I don't even know. Third best player on this team right now is, it's Derek White, but he's been so, so bad, and that's why we've been so, so bad.

20:30Big Cat:Kata. All right, what was your question, PFT? I want to get memes involved real quick because memes, as a fan of the team that's already advanced to the next round, congratulations, by the way. Whomping. Which team would you rather play? Well, we'll probably talk about this in the next thing. I don't give a fuck. Knicks are the best right now. Knicks are just humming.

20:52PFT Commenter:So before we talk about that game memes, what did you do right after this game?

21:00Big Cat:After this game?

21:01PFT Commenter:Yeah.

21:03Big Cat:What did I do?

21:04PFT Commenter:What did you do online right after this game ended?

21:08Big Cat:Oh, we put that graphic together.

21:09PFT Commenter:No, no, no, but what did you do? What were you retweeting?

21:13Big Cat:Oh, Hank's tweets from the next Hawks game, game one. Okay. Or game two.

21:18PFT Commenter:Game two. Yeah, he went back and he retweeted every single one of Hank's tweets from game two. Did you notice that, Hank? I did not. Oh, okay. Do you have any questions for Hank memes?

21:31Big Cat:No, it's just tough to see him down right here. Yeah. He said the series was over after game one. Yeah, he did. He did. Was that when he tweeted more than he did for the entire Super Bowl? Which wasn't true. Yeah. He did tweet one more time in the Super Bowl. So, yeah. It wasn't true. I apologize for that. That was just a lie. Okay. I think you'd rather play against the Sixers. That's what I think means. I don't know.

22:02PFT Commenter:I don't know. Listen, that was, I mean, an insane game. That was a comical game that the Knicks put on the Hawks tonight. They won by 51. Also, I didn't even tweet negatively about the Knicks. That's what I don't even understand. Yeah, but you were rubbing it in. You knew it. How? Because the entire time we're in the office, you just kept saying, what if the Knicks lose round one? What if the Knicks lose round one? And now you're in this situation. I tweeted, what a fourth quarter from the Hawks, because it was. That's not like a slanderous tweet. No, you know what you're doing. No, you know what you're doing.

22:37I'm watching a game. You hate the Knicks. I said, what a fourth quarter from the Hawks. There is zero Knicks slander in that. Zero. What about the Jalen Brunson one? It's Dante screaming. Yeah, he was bad in that fourth quarter. You do memes, right? That's how the game works. Touche.

22:59PFT Commenter:Don't give up, memes. Don't let him bully you. He was slandering. But by saying, what a fourth quarter from the Hawks. You know what that means. He knows. That's got a lot behind it. A lot behind it.

23:13Big Cat:There are so many crazy stats that came out of this game tonight. Yeah. So many crazy ones. So it was the first game in the playoffs where the road team has scored 100 points before the home team has 50 points. Actually, I'm going to take that back. Since the 1996-1997 season, that's the first game in the playoffs or the regular season where the road team has 100 before the home team has 50. The Knicks had a 61-point lead in the third, which was the biggest lead by any team in a playoff game in the play-by-play era. So that means since 1998. It was an ass-kicking from the start. The first quarter was 40-15.

23:54Big Cat:Yeah. It was never in doubt. I don't know what Quinn Snyder had in mind when they came out tonight. I don't know what the Knicks ate for the pregame meal, where they slept last night. I said that maybe this was – it feels like it is the curse of the Hawks canceling Magic City night. Yep. And they get embarrassed on their home court. But from the opening tip, memes, this was just the perfect game. Does it concern you at all that maybe the Knicks have already played their best game? No, because they did it three games in a row.

24:26PFT Commenter:Yeah, the only two games they lost in this series, they lost by one point. And the rest of the games, they killed them. They were the better team. The only reason it looked like, hey, oh, no, the Knicks might be in trouble is they lost game two and three by one point each. But this game, did you see Jonathan Kamingo was a minus 40 plus minus in the first half alone? That's insane. He was, every time I looked up, I was like, how is this score real? It was just an absolute ass kicking. Zach, you had to enjoy the hell out of that game. Oh, Big Cat, it was just a great watch all the way around. We may have unlocked Prime OG.

25:05Like, the entire NBA needs to be worried about that. Yes. I just, I don't know if we're going to play the Sixers or the Celtics next, but whichever team it is, like, best of luck, gentlemen, because the Knicks are absolutely firing. Who do you want, Zach?

25:19Big Cat:initially I did want the Sixers just because when the Threes are falling for the Celtics that can get really overwhelming but with it being so one dimensional and the Threes not falling I'm down for either one

25:32PFT Commenter:great answer political answer OG was awesome Carl Anthony Towns has been awesome that whole series he had another triple double he realized he was the biggest guy and just could do whatever he wanted the Knicks were phenomenal That was memes is smiling ear to ear. It's a rare meme smile that I walked into tonight. Yeah, I was doing the Ric Flair dance around the office. I love it.

25:57Big Cat:I love it. I think everybody on the Knicks scored tonight. Yeah. Yeah. No, every single player. Tyler Colick had six. That's crazy. Every player on the Knicks scored their entire bench. Everybody got in. Everybody scored. Some other crazy stats. You mentioned Cat obviously had 12, 11, 10 triple double. But a crazy stat from Skylar Darrell, going into this game tonight, Deuce McBride had the previous Knicks record for the highest plus minus in a playoff game. It was plus 37. And at the end of the night, he's the fourth highest because there's three other guys that jumped in front of him. OG, Bronson, and Bridges all had 40 plus.

26:39PFT Commenter:Absolutely insane. Yeah, the Hawks had a couple. If you get a foul, does it keep the trillion alive for Tony Snell's trillion? I don't think it's a true trillion. Okay. Yeah, because Asa Newell and Gabe Vincent both played seven minutes and 13 minutes, and the only stats they had was one foul and one steal. So, I mean, the Hawks were just so bad. This is also a good sign, reminder to everyone, When your ownership group cheaps out on the t-shirts and does the rally towels, this is what happens. You get absolutely whomped. That's what the Hawks did. They gave them towels. You got to do the t-shirts, playoff time, start acting like it.

27:23Big Cat:It's whomping. And what we're seeing too, and I love it. I'm pumped because I like seeing Zach with his confidence. I like seeing memes with his confidence. This is the perfect game for the Knicks to get super cocky going into the second round. Yeah. New York fans, they're fully bought in. They fully believe. Whichever team they end up playing, it's going to be incredible. I am so excited for the second round, but I'm more excited for the Game 7. I'm going to be sad to see that series end, but I do know that at the end of the day, at least we got the Knicks and super cocky New York fans waiting in the wings for them.

28:00PFT Commenter:Yeah. Yeah. Max and Hank, are you nervous about the Knicks at all? i'm worried about game seven yeah all right good answer game at a time good answer what are you gonna say memes sorry just wrapping up the next hawk series this series was just like the perfect encapsulation of the next season like game two and three like they they played horrible that's what they looked like in in march going into the playoffs you thought they were going to turn it on and they finally did in game four through six yeah so that's the that's the team that I thought was going to show up in the playoffs,

28:35Big Cat:and they finally did. And I just don't see any team in the East stopping them.

28:41PFT Commenter:I like that. If they play like this every single time,

28:45Big Cat:like Max was saying that was the best Sixers game, they scored 109. The starters got pulled in the third quarter for the Knicks, and they scored 140. That's how good they could play. I did not say that was the best Sixers game.

28:55PFT Commenter:He said it was the best Sixers game. You did. I did not say that. I said this is the best Sixers team that we've seen. I didn't say that was their best possible game. I also said that they were trying to let the Celtics back in the game the entire time. I retracted. I retracted.

29:13Big Cat:I retracted.

29:14PFT Commenter:Memes is so happy. This is what we have with Memes. When he gets happy when his teams win, he doesn't fight. Like, he just retracted twice in the last five minutes. I've never seen that out of him. All my teams suck. Except the Knicks. I love James.

29:30Big Cat:I'm a little concerned like what would happen if the if the Knicks won the NBA championship the Jets won the Super Bowl like memes would probably get really shitty at his job yeah because he'd be

29:40PFT Commenter:so happy yeah he wouldn't have that hate we'd have to put him on a pip all right so wait we don't know Max you just sent in the group text if the Timberwolves win Sixers Celtics will air on NBC after the Kentucky Derby at 7 p.m. so before p.m. if they lose if they're of the Nuggets win it It might be a 4.30 p.m. Saturday game, which would be 1.30. That would be perfect. Yeah. 1.30 would be perfect. Although I kind of want it to be a little later to just watch the chaos, to watch the hype just grow and grow and grow.

30:15Big Cat:I need everybody at least a.12 for that game. We're just – everyone's just trying to be friends. I'll be waking up with a.12. What did you say? I said I'll be waking up with a.12.

30:25PFT Commenter:There you go. Oh, hell yeah, dude. That's my boy. That's my boy. In other news, the Minnesota Wilds have won a series. Congrats to them. Hard-fought series. Win it in six.

30:35Big Cat:First time in 11 years. Yeah.

30:37PFT Commenter:By the way, we're going to talk about the Flyers and some more hockey in a minute when everyone's back in studio. For the ongoing stupid war that is NHL playoffs versus NBA playoffs, the NHL playoffs first round did not deliver in terms of like, you know, I guess we still have hope that maybe the Sabres Bruins goes seven, Lightning Canadians goes seven. But we've got four out of the eight teams have already advanced, and we're kind of on the ropes in terms of getting some game sevens. We need them. Yeah, what are we looking at right now in the Oilers-Ducks game? They're up three. The Oilers are up 3-1 as we're taping this.

31:18PFT Commenter:Also, the Timberwolves, do you want to make a prediction right now? The Oilers are down 3-1. Oh, the Oilers are down 3-1. Shit, I read that wrong. All right.

31:25Big Cat:That might be it for the Oilers.

31:29PFT Commenter:Do you want to make a prediction for this Timberwolves-Nuggets game? No Io. Everyone's injured for the Timberwolves, and they're up eight right now going into the fourth quarter. I think they might win this game. I think the Nuggets are going to come back. Okay. I think they will. It would be pretty shocking if the Nuggets can't beat this iteration of the Timberwolves with three. obviously Io, Terrence Shannon putting in 18 points, playing well. But with Ant, DiVincenzo, and now Io all down, it's like the Timberwolves are just running out of guys.

32:03Big Cat:Absolutely running out of guys. I'm predicting a big fourth quarter. Who's going to win it? I think we're going to see Jokic fill it up, and then I think that Jamal Murray is finally going to get some jump shots to fall okay okay nugget win by six okay do we have anything else i'm just so

32:27PFT Commenter:excited can't wait to get on this flight boys get the whole get the party started okay uh let's kick it back to ourselves let's talk some more playoffs then we have randy moss kentucky derby connor daly fire fest god is an awl cannot wait cannot wait for saturday and then the podcast on sunday so Let's kick it to ourselves. 34:15PFT Commenter:We have Randy Moss coming up with some picks for the Derby. Before we do that, let's talk about Wednesday night's games. Let's start with, you know what? Let's give a little shout out because we've dogged this series, but the Pistons magic game with Cade and Paolo both going off for 40 plus was pretty awesome and the Pistons have I'll say this they've at least they've at least staved off being a total utter embarrassment if they lose this series they didn't lose it in five the one game if you're the one seed and you lose in five at home that would have been a total embarrassment they're going back to Orlando for game six and Cade and Paolo were both 45 points each it was it was a fun watch so that that that is different than some of the other games that we've had in this series where it was not a fun watch.

35:08PFT Commenter:So shout out those two guys. Right. In terms of being a mid-off,

35:10Big Cat:this one caught a lot of people sleeping. Yeah. This is actually the most exciting version of the mid-off of the NBA playoffs so far. I mean, I'm not going to count the Pistons out. I double guaranteed game two. They're not out of it. I mean, Cade was just explosive last night. And obviously the Magic have some injury issues that they have to deal with. Franz. Franz. I don't know. Is Franzia going to be back? Franz, the problem. Slap the bag. I don't know if he's going to be back or not. If he is, it's a different team. But if he's out, I see no reason why the Pistons can't continue to win.

35:46PFT Commenter:Yeah. It was cool to watch both those guys go off. And I think it was – I saw the stat. It was just the second time in NBA history that two number one overall picks each had 40-plus games against each other in the same game. Does anyone know the other one? Max, personal for you. Personal for you, Max. I think I might know one of them. James Harden, Jason Tatum? No. Ben Simmons. Jason Tatum was not the number one overall pick either. Ben Simmons. Mark Hill Fultz. First Kyrie Irving. Wasn't it? What? Oh, I didn't hear you say that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. First overall pick. Two first overall picks going head-to-head in a playoff game, both scoring 40-plus.

36:29PFT Commenter:And they both exploded. Both exploded all over each other.

36:31Big Cat:I'm actually going to say probably Markel Fultz versus Ben Simmons. No. No?

36:37PFT Commenter:It was Allen Iverson and Shaquille O 'Neal. Oh, that makes sense. In the 2001 NBA Finals. That makes sense. It's a great game. Yeah, great game. Sixers won that game. Hell yeah. Ty Lue stepped over. Yep, that was the only game they won. They got smoked the rest of the games, but they won that game. Did you see there was – I don't know why someone was looking for it. I actually would like to catch up with this kid. They showed a picture of maybe an eight-year-old white kid who had the full fake tattoo sleeves and AI from 25 years ago being like, wonder where this kid ended up. I'd like to talk to that kid.

37:10I used to wear AI finger bands when I played elementary school basketball.

37:16PFT Commenter:I'd love to see. Oh, my God. Did you have the spin move then? I had nothing. I was like six. But I did have the finger bands.

37:24Big Cat:Did you do the quarter length sleeve cutoffs? I don't know. I just remember the finger sweatbands, which looking back on it was the most insane thing of all time. Please tell me that you had the do-rag too. I did not have the do-rag.

37:37PFT Commenter:Do-rag Max. People don't talk enough about Max's spin move. He's got a six spin move. It doesn't really know where it's going, but eventually it will stop. One way. One way. Also, Kate Cunningham scored most playoff points in Detroit Pistons history, which is significant. They played a lot of playoff games.

37:59Big Cat:A lot of important games. And for as good as Paolo played, he was also the reason that they lost. Yeah. He was the reason that they were competitive. Obviously, like, what, 45 points, he said? Mm-hmm. Awesome game. He missed a shitload of free throws. Yes, he did. He was bad. You've got to make your free throws, guys.

38:13PFT Commenter:I personally would have made more free throws than him. Six for 11 from the free throw line. Yeah, but it was a game where the first half, or at least the first quarter, you're like, okay, this is the Pistons. They're going to kill them. Yeah, there's a kid. I want to know where that kid is now. I would like to talk to that kid. That kid's in Congress. You thought the Pistons were just going to kill them, and then the Magic, they didn't give up, and it was a tight game late. And yeah, now we have a game six, which I'm excited to watch. A lot of besides the what? Besides the Thunder and the Spurs, we have with the rest of this series or game six is at least, which is pretty cool.

38:49PFT Commenter:Yeah, it's good for the NBA. Bad stat. No NBA champion has gone to six games in the last like 20 years in the first round. Oh, okay. Is that true? Yikes. That's not good. No. So that means that the Thunder or the Spurs are going to win it all. Correct?

39:10Big Cat:Yeah. Yeah, which is kind of what I've been saying.

39:13PFT Commenter:I'm just trying to think. That actually backs up what we're all seeing with our eyes.

39:18Big Cat:Yeah. 12 years.

39:19PFT Commenter:12 years. Oh, that's not a lot. Wait, wasn't there one team that maybe did? Okay, 12 years. That's not a lot of games. I mean, that's not a lot of years. That's noise. Longer than this podcast. That's good. That's true. That's true. Zach was 15 years old when that last happened. And who was it? I don't know, Hank. Do you know? 12 years ago. 12 years would have been the Spurs. Yeah. Spurs probably. Or the Heat. Or the Heat. Yeah, Spurs or the Heat. It was a good stat, Hank. Way to go. Stat department, Hank. Okay, the Cavs-Raptors game. The Dennis Schroeder revenge game. That's what I'm calling it.

40:03PFT Commenter:Okay, I love it. Even though he's played for 1 ,000 teams. Yeah. He did play the longest amount of his time with the Hawks to start his career. Is every game...

40:11Big Cat:I don't think that it's possible for Schroeder to have a revenge game because he's just got to be like... Every game has to just be thankful for being in the NBA game.

40:19PFT Commenter:Yeah, but he... Listen, if there were to be a team that he could get revenge against, it would be the Hawks. And he was phenomenal in the fourth quarter. He scored 11 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter. Played the whole entire fourth quarter. The Raptors just ran out of gas. They have injuries. Brandon Ingram went out. Scottie Barnes, future face of this league, who's been phenomenal this series, banged his knee in the second quarter, and it looked like you could feel it, like a team that was running out of gas. They scored, I think, five points in the first six minutes of the fourth quarter, and that was that.

40:53PFT Commenter:I don't know what's going on with Donovan Mitchell, though, because he seems, he was part of our parlay. He was not. Yeah, he flatlined. He was not very good.

41:00Big Cat:He flatlined. He needed Dennis Schroeder to pick him up. He had 19 points. It felt like the entire fourth quarter left. Yeah. And then just nothing happened after that.

41:09PFT Commenter:Yeah. And James Harden played well. I'm a little worried that James Harden had to play 40 minutes, and now he's got to play again two days later.

41:16Big Cat:Yeah. It feels like a concern. It's a valid concern. I would be even more concerned about what happened in game seven. Yeah. With James Harden. Which would be another two-day break. What if he's just been waiting? What if he's just been waiting this whole time for the series that actually means something to him? Yeah. And it's this one. He's adopted the city of Cleveland as his own. This is where he wants to actually focus on basketball. He's committed to it. What if he just comes out game seven and he scores 45 points? Could happen. What if he single-handedly carries the Cavaliers to an Eastern Conference championship?

41:46PFT Commenter:Could happen. I have a question for you, PFT. Yes. We talked a lot about unwritten rules the other day. A lot. A lot. Would you, as a man, as a man, and anyone else can reply to this too, as men, we're all men. We're all men on this podcast. I'm a man. As men, would you ever go pick up a basketball in front of the other team's bench? Yeah, as a son of dominance.

42:10Big Cat:All right, well, that would be disrespectful. Yeah. No, I agree. Extremely disrespectful. It would be intentionally disrespectful.

42:17PFT Commenter:Which I would do because I'm different. RJ Barrett. So James Harden went and picked up the basketball in front of the Raptors bench. And RJ Barrett said afterwards, he got in his face. He said, I take everything as disrespect. But then he went on to say, James Harden is someone I have tremendous respect for.

42:36Big Cat:Which is why it hurts so hard that he did that. It's like finding out that Santa Claus isn't real. You get mad at your parents for a second. He respected James Harden so much that when he did such a disrespectful thing, like going over to the bench and picking a basketball off the ground, that shattered his illusion of respect that he had.

42:53PFT Commenter:I just love this mini, it's not a controversy, but just being like, don't ever walk to our bench and grab the ball. He knew what he was doing when he walked over. One of the most disrespectful things you can do is walk to another man's bench and pick up the basketball. You have your own basketballs. Way to set the tone, RJ. Team issued. Way to set the fucking tone. Hank, would you do that? Yeah. Oh, I wouldn't. Not me. I would never walk to another man's bench and pick up their basketball. Absolutely not. I grew up properly. I was taught that at a very young age. You misspoke there. You said their basketball.

43:28That was just the basketball.

43:29PFT Commenter:It was the basketball.

43:30Big Cat:Yeah, no, it was the basketball. Max, you're sounding disrespectful. I'm just saying. No, because that ball, when it's at their bench, that's their ball. Yeah, it's their ball. You ever lose a ball into your neighbor's backyard? That's their ball. They get to keep it now. Go knock on the front door and ask. Don't hop the fence. I'm going to let my dog bite you.

43:49PFT Commenter:You are confused right now, and I get it, because you seem like a disrespectful type of guy. Scumbag. Who would go and grab their basketball off their bench. You keep saying there. It was the basketball. No, no, no. The minute it crosses the line to their bench, it's theirs. You don't fucking touch another man's basketball.

44:12Big Cat:Yeah, very disrespectful. Goddamn.

44:15PFT Commenter:I like to fight back. Good job, RJ. Yeah. And then the last game, the Rockets-Lakers. Yeah. We're on the borderline of getting real toxic. I'm not ready for it. I think the Lakers are still going to win this series, but oh boy, if they don't, shit's going to get toxic.

44:37Big Cat:This would be not only historical, just by way of the number. It literally has never happened to the NBA. LeBron is a student of the game. You know that a small part of him would love to be a part of history. Yeah, it would be another record for LeBron. Yeah, another record. So you have to put that. That would probably be the last bullet point on his plaque when he celebrates his career when it's all said and done. I think that they're going to pull it off too. I think the Lakers will be fine. It would be very funny if they became the first team to do it. And also against such an uninspiring team.

45:11Big Cat:Oh, the Rockets don't even want to be playing. How is this even possible that they're on the brink of – I'm not going to say they pressed the panic button, but LeBron – I think LeBron told Bronny, like, go get my panic button. Yeah. So, Bronny's like on the way back with the button in his hand. They're not pressing it yet. They're not thinking about it. Once they, I'd say halftime, if they're down at halftime of game six, then they press the panic button.

45:36PFT Commenter:Yeah, because, I mean, well, Kevin Durant's already been ruled out for game six. That was a very early rule. It was like literally the first thing I saw when I woke up this morning. Oh, you might have missed. Game five happened on Wednesday night, but Kevin Durant's already out for game six. Luka, I don't know. We were promised maybe game six or seven. Austin Reeves was bad. It turns out that when the Lakers don't have Rui, Austin Reeves, and Luke Kennard all hitting shots, they don't look as good as maybe they did the first three games. And it's going to get toxic. I would still bet that the Lakers do it.

46:15PFT Commenter:But it would get very toxic, Hank. You agree. I would love it. It would get extremely, extremely toxic.

46:23Big Cat:We should give him a trophy if the Lakers become the first team to blow a 3-0 lead.

46:28PFT Commenter:A banner. Yeah, they should hang a banner. You can raise a banner.

46:30Big Cat:First team in NBA history, congrats, you did it. I don't think they're going to do it. I don't think so either. I don't think it's going to happen.

46:36PFT Commenter:Do you know this was the first loss for LeBron in a closeout game at home in 18 years? It's pretty crazy. That is insane. Yeah. For them to win the series. Yeah. I kind of like after last Friday when he had the oop to Brawny and he had that crazy comeback. It was. I had a thought where I was like, this is kind of a cool story. It is. It's fun. If the Lakers make a run, it will be cool. Now I want them to just blow this league so bad. There's nothing I want more. You're toxic. You're toxic. Yeah. Oh, yeah.

47:09Big Cat:That's actually the greatest trick that LeBron has ever pulled. Because I think you're right, Hank. I think with everything going into this playoff, he did not have his best team around him, and somehow they're winning. And people were like, this is cool. Even most LeBron haters were forced to lay down their sword and say, yes, okay, that's cool that he created a player out of his testicles and sperm. And then he's got that player in the NBA, and now he's throwing alley-oops to that person. Everybody had to be like, okay, LeBron, awesome job. But then right after that happened, everything collapsing.

47:42Big Cat:I feel like it's almost giving those, the day one haters of LeBron that were forced to like back off a little bit. It's almost giving them a second wind to like get even worse with what they thought about LeBron. Yeah. Because they also secretly hate themselves for getting soft on him in the past week. I'm just, oh man. It's just a lot.

48:05PFT Commenter:Don't do it. Don't do it, LeBron. If we could give you any piece of advice, LeBron, don't lose this series. Not because of us. but because of the bad people out there. Actually, because of you. It's for you. Yeah, yeah, right.

48:18Big Cat:We're trying to save you. We won't address it, probably, if the Lakers blew a 3-0. Well, we'll have to talk about it a little bit. Wins game seven? Can I do it on Sunday? It'll be Sunday. Do we tape a show on Sunday night? We do. So we'd probably, probably at the end of the show, we'd mention it just for, you know, like we did the, what do we miss at the end of every show? We'd probably bring it up then.

48:38PFT Commenter:Yeah, like what do we miss? Braylon Mullen's shot. Right. Yeah, that kind of stuff. A touch on it. Can I do a Lakers spin zone? Yeah, please. What if they're losing on purpose? For more time for Luka to come back? Correct. I don't know if that actually works, because wouldn't they be playing the Oklahoma City Thunder and wouldn't... Thunder, yes. The Thunder. Right. Already finished. Right, right. So if the Lakers had won on Wednesday night, wouldn't they have started the series on Sunday? Yeah.

49:08Big Cat:No, so what Max is saying, because I was thinking about this too, I just didn't know the dates. They are trying to extend this series because they know they're going to beat the Rockets anyways. And then trying to get Luka for the entire series of Oklahoma City. All right.

49:20PFT Commenter:Well, I would just go counterpoint. I'm just saying that's a quick counterpoint. That's your spin zone. I feel like if you have a 41-year-old star, you want to play the minimum amount of basketball on his legs. But he's not the most important guy. Yeah, but Luka. Luka. Right. Luka. I get it. I get it. But what if Luka doesn't come back? What if he's fat? And now you have LeBron playing a lot of minutes. This has been what? I'm just playing devil's advocate. You're rooting for the Lakers. You already said you wanted them in the finals.

49:51Big Cat:Yeah, Max, counter-counterpoint. This has been, what, a week and a half for Luka that he's been out? How long has Luka been out? Way longer than that. When was the last time he actually played or practiced?

50:06A few months.

50:12Big Cat:april 2nd april 2nd okay that's a long time with no cardio from luca donchich a man who has struggled in the past a man who got down to a very skinny healthy weight over the course of the nba season because he's getting exercise almost on a nightly basis that's a lot of calories that luca has not been burning for the last month when he does come do you want to really give him even more time to not exercise

50:42Big Cat:yes it's luca it's luca okay are you saying are you saying would you rather have luca playing or not playing if i'm a lakers fan i would rather have luca playing that's what i'm saying you you

50:53PFT Commenter:you want no no no no no if i'm a if i'm a real lakers fan i want lebron to do it on his own no that's there's that's lebron fans yeah like white boy rick is saying like he just wants lebron Yeah, yeah.

51:05Big Cat:Lakers fans have just become LeBron fans.

51:08PFT Commenter:But they're still just Kobe fans over that. Like, they don't respect LeBron in that way. But they've let LeBron take over their entire team. I understand, but begrudgingly, it's still a Kobe town. Yeah, I would agree with that. Yeah, 100%. Just don't lose this game. And then don't lose Sunday. Oh, my God. I just... Content gods, please. Sunday's episode could be all time with some of the things that can transpire between now and then. Okay, we could have

51:42Big Cat:LeBron blowing a 3-0 lead. We could have the 76ers potentially having just beaten the Celtics. Us on a bachelor party. That series could be over by the time.

51:56PFT Commenter:Yeah, you're right. As we're talking about this right now, it could be over.

51:59Big Cat:Correct. We could have memes. Maybe Memes Blue That series also could be over by the time we talk about this We're talking about right now Sabres Bruins

52:10PFT Commenter:You know how much Hank's locked in He's Bruined up Bruined the fuck up Speaking of which, Max Flyered up Flyered up, that game was Crazy That overtime The Penguins just dominated it And that's just the cruelty of Stanley Cup playoff overtime hockey where you can dominate and just one thing happens. You're like, oh, now we're going home. You had a goalie on his head. And I think we all agreed that the press off is officially done. Yeah. Yeah. I see vert. I see vert. I see vert. I see vert. He did win the press. And I think we all know it by Pickensburg tweeting like lost, lost the series, but won the press off.

52:52PFT Commenter:Like, okay, dude. Yeah. So no, you didn't.

52:54Big Cat:So yesterday I did get a message from from Pickensburg at about 720. 20, he was requesting to do a live Icy Lib versus Pickensburg segment. I would love that. Where we get them together on a Zoom call and just we kind of run the press back and see who wins. But now that the series is over, that would be the saddest press of all time, like post series.

53:15PFT Commenter:I will say, though, that maybe not, you know, we got some stuff coming up, but maybe in a couple of weeks, I would host a press off on our YouTube. In a couple of weeks. In a couple of weeks. We will not care about this at all. That's the whole point, though. you give them a little crumb and like, yeah, maybe we'll do it. And then when, like, I know exactly what's going to happen. Three weeks from now, after grit week, we're doing grit week early this year for Memorial Day, right before Memorial Day, which is actually how grit week started. Yeah. The first two grit weeks were that week. OTAs. After grit week, Dom is going to come up to me and be like, hey, Pickensburg won't stop hitting me up.

53:53PFT Commenter:Do you want to get that on the books when you're going to do the press off? and i'm gonna say nah dude well so that sounds exactly right so the beauty of this press-off

54:03Big Cat:is that pickensburg actually he he wanted to do uh a remote zoom call live press-off on part of my take if the series didn't go to seven games like so in the event that the series is over he does want to extend the storyline past the end of the series yeah so uh well that's because he lost yeah he lost the press oh no not not according to him not yet because if we what if we had the live press off but he could have gone to philly for the press off he could still come back or did you lose if you just never admit defeat that's a good point absolutely not right he just never called it in right that's a good point that's a good point all right so to be continued probably

54:44PFT Commenter:not though someone remind us in like three months no we're funny this is my solemn promise is um

54:50Big Cat:We're going to think about it. We're going to think hard. Not too hard. Really long. Not too hard. We're going to think really hard about it because I feel like Pickensburg is right. This would be just an amazing segment for everybody.

55:04PFT Commenter:Not too hard. My solemn promise is I'm not going to think too hard about it. We also had an incredible Golden Knights, incredible double overtime winner against the Mammoth, and the Canadiens Lightning Series has been awesome. Awesome hockey. So how pumped are you, Max? You flired up into the second round. When's game one? Hurricanes? Hurricanes. Hurricanes are really good. Fuck them. They boring hockey, but when that's what means. That's according to my hockey guy memes.

55:35Big Cat:I think Lubbin said the boring part. I like I said the boring part. I've also said the boring. I said the boring. And to be fair, when I say the boring part, it's it's because of sour grapes, because I've lost them in the playoffs many times. So it's like, yeah, well, we might not be as good, but at least you guys are way more fun yeah yeah we're fun which is really i think they're more fun than years past though

55:56PFT Commenter:oh okay okay that's good not as boring not as boring they're no longer doing missionary no sometimes they're mixing it up yeah the hurricanes are like i'll get on top but we'll most likely lose in eastern conference finals they're doing the uh what was it goldman sax woman who was jp morgan jp morgan memes just applied for a job what uh yeah memes that that story you'd love that story yeah it's a dream the racism part no so much be like hey fat boy

56:25Big Cat:you ready for your bj yeah hey fat boy i'm gonna suck you off i think memes would be okay with having like anti-indian racism directed towards him yeah for a blowjob for both i think that's a fair deal for memes he'll listen to whatever slur you want to drop on him the woman just oh my fish head asian wife yeah sure yeah call her whatever you want she doesn't exist oh memes you don't tastes like curry yeah no duh yeah listen say what you want about that lady that's how business

56:49PFT Commenter:gets done these by the way were what pft and i both said were exact quotes yes exactly just want to let everyone know if you haven't seen the story there was a uh what jp morgan you said jp morgan jp morgan executive who is basically using one of her her underlings as a sex slave and allegedly allegedly and and mixing in a lot of racism allegedly yeah to the point that holy

57:13Big Cat:shit what a story and this is all super allegedly a super because there's a report in the daily mail which has has been wrong a lot about a lot of stuff but the lawsuit's real okay quick update

57:24PFT Commenter:the lawsuit was dropped and it looks like everything was fake so yeah what a wild story but the lawsuit was dropped and the woman is uh vindicated and probably wrongfully accused for a lot of bad stuff so lawsuit dropped we move on um hank before we get to our interviews we have Randy Moss, Kentucky Derby, and Connor Daly, would you like to say anything?

57:49It was a great run.

57:52PFT Commenter:What are you talking about? I think for Liv, they made an official statement that the PIF, they're pulling out of funding for Liv after this year.

58:02Big Cat:I'm sure they'll have other investors. Oh, so we're going to finish this year? Finishing this year. They have funding through 2026. Okay, that's great. And then there's a big question mark if they can get more funding, if sponsors are going to step up. I've been lobbying behind the scenes for part of my cheesesteak to get in on the bidding. I think it would be good for the brand, good for the show. Hank tried to make a real meeting yesterday.

58:24PFT Commenter:He's like, hey, we got to. He said to Dom, he's like, hey, can you get a meeting on the books with Fitzsimmons and Liv? I was like, what? He's like, part of my cheesesteak. We could save this.

58:35Big Cat:So my understanding is that each Liv golf tournament costs about$30 million in terms of cash, the purse. Yeah, I think they've spent like two bills. So we could pay for what? Like one hole? We get one hole. I don't think we get a hole. I think maybe just a hand. They've spent like$2 billion so far. Now they're just kind of giving up. Well, I wouldn't say giving up. They're not giving up. Hey, so let me explain. So did you read the statement they put out? I did. Okay, so they're doing a strategic evolution. Oh. They're bringing two new board appointments, and the league is focusing on securing long-term financial partners.

59:10Big Cat:So these two new board appointments that they made, their goal is going to be in the best interest of live and they're going to try to get as much money. So from a business standpoint, I'm excited to see what the new two people on the board of directors, like what their what their past has been, what they specialize in, how they're going to generate funding for the tournament for the live. I think it could be interesting. Yeah. Yeah. I would be shocked if it exists next year, which is just sad. It's sad for the people, sad for all the fans. Are you the saddest boy in America? The four ace faithful.

59:45PFT Commenter:Yeah. OKC, that team existed for like four days. They're going to go on such a good run. They're going to go on an epic run. When was the Oklahoma Stallions created? Last week.

59:59Big Cat:What about cliques? How are the cliques going to handle this? I don't think the cliques have gotten word yet. Yeah, Anthony Kim, he tweeted last night, like, what's going on? He just found out. So they've got all these teams, and as part of the initial live arrangement, the players were given equity in the teams that they made. So what happens to that? Like, what happens to the brand equity that's been built up over the course of the last two years? It depends. I don't know. Maybe they – I don't know. I'm not a business guy. I don't know what's going to happen. I can do an analogy if you like.

1:00:32Big Cat:Sure. Okay. So they hired two new consultants to the board, right? So as an analogy, let's pretend that the Live Golf League is a person. Okay. And this person is going about their day and they go into a building. And then all of a sudden, they start not feeling well for some reason in that building. Maybe having trouble breathing, whatever the case may be. And then now all of a sudden, they have some sort of medical situation. And the people that own the building want to get this person out. but they don't want people to see this person leaving their building because they're going to be like, why is this person getting sick inside your building?

1:01:07Big Cat:So then they hire a couple guys to come in and strip things down and disassemble that person and then put them in bags and then secretly remove that person from the building. So they might be secretly stripping down Liv Gaul. Are you following? Selling it for parts. That was illegal, whatever PFT is describing. You would think so, but if they don't get caught, and if you've got powerful friends, maybe they won't get in trouble for it. Sounds like we have an opportunity

1:01:33PFT Commenter:to maybe buy a lot of memorabilia. Yeah. That would be nice. Do they have troughs? Listen, Nebraska trough. I want a trough museum. Oklahoma, come on. No, no, no. Nebraska Cornhuskers are making renovations on their stadium, and they're selling some of their troughs, and I will be buying. I will be there no matter what. So there's going to be a trough museum. Yes, I said my goal is to have this. Double-decker troughs? I would like this office to be more trough than office, if that makes sense. Women's room trough? Yeah, no. Women's could pop a squat. It's a hole in the ground.

1:02:08Big Cat:For sure. I'm excited to see it. Can we make a bed out of a trough? I'm excited to see the next phase of live golf. Because I think it's going to be even louder.

1:02:16PFT Commenter:It definitely. And the shorts might even be shorter. Yeah. Genius. Brooks is the big winner. Yep. Got his payday. Out. He's back before anyone else. I said it to Hank. I was talking to him earlier, but I think the perfect post-mortem of Liv was tweeted by a guy named Mike Bivoua. He said, look, was Liv Gull successful? No. Did it bolster the reputations of everybody involved? Also no. But was it fun? Once again, no.

1:02:47Big Cat:Perfect. Was it easy to find on TV to watch? No. No. Did it have a single moment that anyone has ever remembered in the entire history of the league?

1:03:01PFT Commenter:Anthony Kim? Did the players, were the players on live able to compete at the same level in the major tournaments? No. That would also be a no. Yes. At the same level? They won two majors. Who, John Rahm and Brooks? Brooks and Bryson. Brooks and Bryson, that's right. Did Jon Rahm, one of the most fun golfers to watch and an up-and-coming star, possibly ruin his career?

1:03:27Big Cat:Yes. Did the one-time figurehead of Liv and one-time respected professional golfer Greg Norman ruin his good name? Yes.

1:03:37PFT Commenter:Yes. Did the one time very well respected human being that everyone loved and never had anything bad to say about him, Phil Mickelson, ruin his reputation?

1:03:50Big Cat:Yes. Okay. And how about - Well, actually, no. No. No, because it was already bad. Yeah, but with Phil - Was he able to probably pay off a lot of his debts? Yes. But did it also inspire him to probably create a ton of new debts? Also, yes. Also, yes.

1:04:04PFT Commenter:did live make the pga tour better no yes yes yes yes the prize pool the prize money like if you're like for the players the the money went way up because of live do they have a structure in place

1:04:20Big Cat:yes uh to put live and pga together they have for quite some time yes for the last uh year and a half two years that's the real shame is like i was i was pumped to see what the merger was going to look like because they had elements of their framework that were ready to go and be announced and i'm sure it would have been a win-win for everyone and now it's it's sad as hank said it's sad did they make the golf louder yes way louder it could have been louder it could have been louder but it was pretty damn loud and i also think that this is like i don't know it's probably a good lesson that if you try to start a brand new league out of nowhere it's it's going to have a hard time even if you try to get like the biggest names and pay them the most money there's something to be said about a league for whatever flaws it might have had the pga has existed for such a long time and we're just all familiar with it it's become like part of any sports fan's life it's going to take more than like three years and i don't know three billion dollars to just like completely unseated yeah so we just got to keep going we got to keep going that is the lesson here keep going with live do you think that anybody what max i can't wait for this league to be over so we can stop talking about Liv every episode.

1:05:29We've had some great moments. We've talked more. I think we talked. It's disgusting. Let's get back to Pickensburg and fucking Eisenberg. We talked more about Liv than the NHL playoffs in this.

1:05:39PFT Commenter:No, we've had Whitney on. We've had... I'm saying this episode. Oh, this episode. All right. Congrats, Max. You're fired up. You're fired up. Max is a big hockey guy, Max. Yeah, he's fucking trolled Max. Please like my sport, Max. Oh, man. Also. Oh, guys.

1:05:52Big Cat:You guys are talking about hockey. You don't talk to me. How about we talk some fucking puck on the number one sportsbook?

1:05:57PFT Commenter:Hey, how about the fact that our fucking best friend just lost the thing that he loves more than anything in the world? Hank doesn't even care about Liv. He pretends to care about Liv. That's not true. That's not true. That is true. He doesn't even pretend to care about him. And also, Pickensburg, Ice and Vert, that's funny. Yeah. And also, that counts as hockey talk. Yeah, sure.

1:06:19Big Cat:Hank, what was your favorite moment from Liv? Ah, see, we were at... I think we just asked this question. No, but he kind of gave a hand wave answer that didn't count. I want to know. Man, there's so many to pick from. See, I don't think you can name actually one moment that meant something to you. I liked it when they played the tournaments in Hong Kong and Australia, and they were on at night. That was fun. I like watching golf at night. Okay. So just night golf. Night golf. But it was during the day. I liked when those giant birds like swarmed Bryson and then he got really it looked like he was getting dive bombed by pterodactyls.

1:07:01Big Cat:That was fun.

1:07:04PFT Commenter:Yeah, that was cool. I like it when that guy hit that hole in one and no one cheered. That was really good. That was really cool. I like when I got chase Koepka hitting a hole in one in Australia. It's the greatest hole in one ever booth. Let's hear yours.

1:07:19Big Cat:This moment because it's over. I will find a way. I also like to chase Kepka home. Thank you. It was like the waste management. But louder. Adjacent, but louder. Yeah.

1:07:31PFT Commenter:Zach? Oh, I like when they just started trashing the grass in Mexico. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Good call. Who could forget? All right. Let's get to our interviews. We got Randy Moss talking Kentucky Derby. And then Connor Daly talking Indy 500. Before we do that, Twisted Tea. We love Twisted Tea. 1:11:03PFT Commenter:Yeah so so if we're gonna talk about the Oaks first uh do you agree with Dave's horse lovely gray being in there I'm excited for Dave it's an unbelievable moment for him this is why he starts owning horses. Do you think his horse has any chance? Any horse in any big race pretty much has a chance. I mean, look at Rich. I'm not putting lovely Gray in the category of Rich Strike. She's better than that. But look at Rich Strike and look at mine, that bird. And she has run some really solid races at Turfoy Park on synthetic. If she can make the transition to dirt, she's in with a shot. and I'm happy for Dave.

1:11:44He had to be on pins and needles, wait on a couple of scratches, and he got in. Good for him. It's really cool.

1:11:50PFT Commenter:Yeah, and I mean, there were some people who were like, oh, you can't run this horse because she's never been on dirt. Like, if you get the opportunity to be in the Oaks, you have to be in the Oaks. And the whole synthetic to dirt thing is not really, you know, as big of a deal as some people make it out to be. And the plan right now, tell Dave, he may already know, but NBC wants to interview him in the walkover from the paddock to the track so we'll see he does know we just need to be John Fanta we need it to be Fanta because Fanta is the best I think I heard reports that Fanta is going to be the infield I know this is more of a Preakness thing but I wouldn't mind seeing Fanta on top of some porta potties getting beers chucked at his head that would be maybe the greatest video of all time This will be Fanta's Kentucky Derby debut, and we're all really looking forward to it.

1:12:47But it can't be at the Preakness, guys, because there's not going to be an infield at the Preakness this year. Yes, that's right.

1:12:53PFT Commenter:We still got just a million things. The Belmont is still at Saratoga. They got to get this all figured out. This is the weirdest triple crown in history.

1:13:02Big Cat:Maybe we can get Fanta in a big hat. That would be cool, too.

1:13:07PFT Commenter:All right. All right, so who do you have in the Oaks? All right, I really like a horse that, and an Xacta, a horse that's a 10 to 1 right now in the program line. I don't think you'll get 10 to 1. 6 to 1 probably is more realistic. And her name is always a runner. She's trained by Chad Brown. She won a race in New York in her last start. Looked really good visually. She's only had two races in her life, kind of like emerging market who Chad's running in the Kentucky Derby. And I think always a runner has a great chance to win. And the other part of the exact would be a filly named Prom Queen, who is trained by Brad Cox.

1:13:51And she also comes off a win in Florida and looked pretty good. So they're not the favorites. One of them's eight to one, Prom Queen right now in the program. One of them's 10 to one, always a runner. but I really like that exact and always runner in particular I think she's going to run a big race

1:14:08PFT Commenter:okay great so and now for the derby this is I'm very excited for this derby it's tell me if I'm wrong but it feels very wide open we have four horses that are you know between four and six to one right now it feels like one of those derbies that we can maybe get a long shot what is the vibe going into this Kentucky Derby Saturday, and do you agree that it is extremely wide open in terms of the field? Oh, you're all over it. The vibe is exactly as you described it, from the handicappers, even the owners and the trainers and the jockeys feel the same way. It's almost a cliche, and some people think it's a cop-out when I say, almost on an annual basis, the Derby's wide open because it typically is wide open.

1:14:56This is even more wide open than the Derby usually is because there are so many different horses that just figure right there together, just a hair's breadth apart in the analytics, and it's going to be an interesting race.

1:15:12Big Cat:Yeah, so we do see a lot of grouping. We were talking about one on Monday's show, Further Ado, because there's an NFL tie-in with that. I guess one of the horse's owners went to the hospital after laughing so hard at a young way to kick that he had a seizure, goes to the hospital, gets a brain scan. They find a benign tumor, have that removed. And now he's healthy and he's good to go. It's an interesting story. That's one of the horses we were talking about. What would you say about him? Oh, I think he's got a hell of a shot to win. You know, he had the most impressive of the Triple Crown of the Kentucky Derby prep races when he won the Bluegrass Stakes by 11 lengths.

1:15:58But just to show you how evenly matched this is, I mean, I read Ortiz, the jockey, was on him in the Bluegrass. And when you win the Bluegrass Stakes by 11 lengths and you run the top speed figure of any horse in the race, I mean, most jockeys would be like just so excited. They'd be on cloud nine. And I read it's never won the Kentucky Derby amazingly. So what does he do? He takes off a further ado, chooses not to ride him. And he's riding Renegade, the Arkansas Derby winner instead. It's just a perfect example of how wide open this race is.

1:16:30PFT Commenter:All right. So let's talk about Renegade because Renegade has, it's our good friend, Micropoli's horse. Renegade also has a cracked hoof. How painful, how big of a deal is this? Is this like the turf toe? Do we actually have to be worried about it? what actually happens with a cracked hoof for a horse that is one of the favorites to win the Kentucky Derby? Usually, you don't really have to be worried about it at all. It's not an uncommon thing with racehorses. And so what happens with Renegade, what happened to him just the last couple of days? There is a guy who's like the guru of situations like this, a farrier, a horseshoe guy.

1:17:11His name is Ian McKinley. And so they fly in Ian McKinley. And what they do is they take sort of like piano wire. Okay. And they run it through the crack and they pull the crack together and tighten it to where there's no crack anymore. It's just a little hairline. And then they put an acrylic patch over it to completely protect it. And the horse is fine. The horse doesn't feel it. The horse doesn't experience any discomfort or anything like that. and then horses running in situations like that all the time. Remember Big Brown? Yeah. He won the Kentucky Derby with it. This is like the Alabama ankle surgery.

1:17:53Yeah, it's very, very commonplace in thoroughbred racing. You can go to a paddock in big races and look at their hooves and you see patches regularly. It's not that big of a deal.

1:18:04PFT Commenter:All right, so not a big deal with the cracked hoof. That's good to know. What about the one position, the post position? Like that's renegade, what has it been, 40 years? Since a horse has won the Kentucky Derby from that position on the rail? So are we making, is that noise or is that, hey, that's a real thing? It's mostly noise. So here's the deal, okay? If you break for the number one post position, there is a higher percentage chance that you can encounter traffic and that will affect your horse negatively okay and that's what people focus on they see horses that break from the number one post that occasionally you know get wiped out when all the horses on the outside drop over on top of them and they think oh my god this is terrible the one horse the one hole is horrible but there's also the fact that there's geometry involved and you're closer to the rail you're running a shorter distance than the other horses and if you think that doesn't matter just look at calvin burrell's three kentucky derby wins when he never got he when he was on top of the rail so close that his his black boot had white paint on it from scraping up against the rail it's very important to save ground in the Kentucky Derby.

1:19:26So it's a wash, right? He just got to avoid the wipeout part of it. And the reason why no horses won from the one hole since 1986, the average odds of the horses breaking from the number one post position average is 31 to one. None of them were expected to win. So it's not really – it's sort of a statistical anomaly. Yep. And if you really like Renegade, then I wouldn't let that bother you a whole lot.

1:19:58PFT Commenter:Yeah, because – so I love that you said that. It is the noise. Because I think I saw – hasn't the fifth position won like three times in the last, I don't know, 15 years or something like that where it's like that doesn't also – that really doesn't make – the fifth position isn't somehow better than everyone else is. Oh, and the 17 Hall has never won the Kentucky Derby, which is bizarre, but it's just a statistical anomaly. You know, the thing about post positions is that, you know, like Bob Baffert, back when you could pick the post positions, there were a few years there where the trainers could pick their own posts, right?

1:20:33There was a draw, random draw, and they got to choose their post. And statistically, there was a particular post that Bob Baffert really wanted for his horse, one of the favorites, and he took that post position. He was all happy about it. So what happens? The horses leave the starting gate, and the horses on either side of Baffert's converge on top of him and sandwich him. And the horse goes out the back end, and what looked like the best post position ends up being the worst post position. So you don't really know. It's kind of a crapshoot.

1:21:03Big Cat:Yeah. There's one horse in the race that's interesting, to say the least. So happy. So happy. A lot of interesting storylines behind that one. But what I'm looking at is the age of the jockey, Mike Smith. he's 60 right he's a 60 year old man that is going to be a jockey in the Kentucky Derby um is he I guess my main question is does he still have it at 60 and then the second would be like what what skills start why don't we see this more often what skills deteriorate that make a make jockeying a younger man's game okay if if Mike listens to this the first thing he's going to want me to say is that he's 59 and not 60 and here's here's here's why you think he's 60 because the bio information says that he's 60 but in order to ride when he was a kid you have to be 16 to ride he lied about his age oh so now it's getting him on the other end yeah yeah yeah yeah so the official date right is it says 60 but he's actually 59 and he'll turn 60 later this year and obviously the difference between 59 and 60 is not much he's still an old guy he'll be the oldest guy ever to ride in the kentucky derby at age 59 he would definitely be the oldest guy to win it uh bill shoemaker won it from the number one post 40 years ago there we go when he was 54 years old mike smith is a freaking medical marvel um he works out harder than probably anybody you know he is a workout warrior and he's in better shape at age 59 than 90 percent of the kids he's riding against that might be you know 30 28 32 so don't let the age for mike smith bother you at all but it is a fantastic storyline involved with the horse definitely uh 59 that is important distinction they're they're doing them dirty on that one

1:23:01PFT Commenter:Big time Randy I want you to explain I watch horse racing I bet on horse racing throughout the year so it's a two part question one can you explain to people the Kentucky Derby process of getting horses in and two my real question is similar to when we're watching football it used to be the SEC now it's the Big Ten where it's like hey Big Ten league plays better than the SEC that's they're going to reign supreme when we get to the postseason. Would it be fair to say the Florida Derby this year was that much better than everyone else and those three horses, which I watched that race and it was incredible.

1:23:39PFT Commenter:Those three horses, you should look at and be like, hey, this is the cream of the crop. This is the Big Ten winning three national championships in a row. That's where the winner's going to come from, not, you know, California or Arkansas or Kentucky. I think that's totally fair. Completely fair. But there's a subtle difference in college football, let's go football, not college basketball. It's typically going to be either the Big Ten or the SEC. You might get the ACC that might sneak in there if Clemson can be rehabilitated or something like that, right? But normally it's those two big conferences.

1:24:17In horse racing, it can be the Florida Derby one year. It can be the Arkansas Derby the next year. It can be the Santa Anita Derby. It can be the Bluegrass Stakes, maybe this year with further ado, the wood memorial is no good anymore but it can kind of it'd be cyclical right this year yes the florida derby looks like uh sort of the cream of the crop in my opinion normally if you see three horses hit the wire together okay what's the odds that all three horses are going to be really good compared to all three horses being just kind of mediocre and none of them are good enough to run away from the field.

1:24:58That's typically what you get when you see what they call a blanket finish with horses all to the wire together. Florida Derby, though, is different. This year, I think the numbers show that all three of those horses are really solid.

1:25:09PFT Commenter:Yeah, and so the three horses are the Puma, Chief, Wallaby, and Commandment. Can you rank them and maybe break those three down? Because all three of those are very much in play to win the Derby. And all three of them could very easily win the Derby, and I can give you my opinion and I'm not extremely confident about it, but the horse that I picked to win the Kentucky Derby's Chief Wallaby. Oh, he can't win the big one though, Randy. Every time. Who was third? He was third in the Florida Derby and he was beaten by commandment on the wire in the fountain of youth. So you're right. He has not yet won the big one.

1:25:47But here's the thing about Chief Wallaby, right? First of all, he's got Bill Mott in his corner, the trainer, who's three quarters horse. He won the Kentucky Derby last year. He won the Kentucky Derby last year with sovereignty. If he's not the best trainer in America, he's on a very, very, very short list. But it's horse more than trainer. It always is. This horse was a million dollar horse. Wowed everybody with workouts before the horse ever ran a race, okay? And when Mott watched the Florida Derby and the horse was right in between, fighting down the stretch and then kind of, you know, backed out just a little bit at the finish and winds up finishing a close third.

1:26:31First thing Mott said as they crossed the wire to himself, I'm putting blinkers on this horse the next time he runs, the hood that restricts their vision. He saw that he thought the horse was unfocused and was looking at the horses on either side of him more than he was paying attention to what he was doing. And it was a sign of inexperience. So he said, if I can get into Kentucky Derby, which he did, obviously, I'm going to run him in blinkers, which is uncommon for Mott in a big race to make a change like that. Since the horses had the blinkers on at Churchill Downs, he has looked like an improved horse.

1:27:10He's training even better than he trained before, which is marginal because he trained great to begin with. but he's really, really looking like he's, uh, he's, he's sitting on a big, big race. Other trainers have said the same thing, the competition, you know, man, Chief Wallaby really, really looks good. So all he's got to do is improve a little bit. It's not like he has to make this big transformation right now in the early wagering. He's 13 to one. Yeah. So to me, I thought that was a pretty good risk to take.

1:27:41PFT Commenter:I, I, I want like, like I said, everyone should go watch the Florida Derby because it was an incredible race. He didn't have I didn't like what I saw out of it, but maybe the blinkers changed it. I get it. No, I get it. If it weren't for the blinkers, I wouldn't be picking it. Because the moment was there and he just kind of didn't, you know, the Puma and Commandment were unbelievable and he just was like, nah, I'm not going to try to win this.

1:28:04Big Cat:You're right. Is there such a thing as a sports psychologist for a horse? Like, do any trainers work with him on the mental game? Yeah, the sports psychologist is named Bill Mott. Yeah, yeah. Bob Baffert. I mean, you gotta be half horse psychologist to be a horse trainer. That's part of the game. Because making horses happy equals, if they have talent, equals making horses successful. An unhappy horse just won't put out. So they're constantly trying to figure out what does this horse want? Why is this horse acting weird? Why does he look unhappy? What can I do to make him happy other than feed him more, which doesn't work?

1:28:50So, yeah, that's part of the game.

1:28:52Big Cat:Happy horse, happy life. Yeah. So, Randy, it's been a while since we've done a question like this, but we have a new addition to part of my take, and he's in the booth over here. His name is Zach. He's our first-round pick. He's a superstar. But with a rookie guy like that, sometimes you make some rookie mistakes, and that's okay. We roll with him. Zach saw that we had you on the show this morning, and so he prepared some questions. But I'm hearing that he might not have prepared questions for the correct Randy Moss. That's happened before. Okay. Go ahead, Zach. Hey, Randy, how are you doing today, my man?

1:29:25Good. How are you doing? I only play when I want to play, by the way. I was curious. Is horse jockeying, is that like a family lineage sport? No, no, no.

1:29:34Big Cat:That's some real questions, Zach. That's some real questions.

1:29:37PFT Commenter:Are you prepared? Hey, Randy, what's going on? I was curious if there was ever a catch in your career that maybe that you came down with and you were just like, I had no business catching this ball. And you got to the ground and it was just in your hands. No, no. There was a tackle in my career when I was in the sixth grade and a guy was running back a kick for a touchdown in the championship game. And I made the tackle and saved the game. And that's the only football highlight of my life. Well done, Randy. Still talking about it. Yeah, yeah. All right. Next question, Zach. Randy, another question for you.

1:30:09A lot of guys on the field just couldn't compete with your speed. Having that kind of speed, did that transcend the football field? Where else did you find yourself using that speed IRL? There's not many guys that can run a 5.8-40, but that can keep up with my 5.8. But, yeah, that's been a hallmark of my career here at NBC is using that 5.8 speed to escape the irate bettors that bet some of my picks that didn't pan out so well. Yes. Good question. Yes.

1:30:44PFT Commenter:And Zach, any last question? I'd love that for you, Randy. Thank you for your time. Yeah, go ahead. Now you can ask a horse racing question. I was curious, though. Do we see a lot of lineage in the horse jockeying? Like our sons jockeying when their fathers did? Is it like a pass-down thing because they fit that small build archetype? Or is that not the case? No, you do get that periodically. There are some guys like Tyler Gapleone is a top jockey in America right now, and his father is a jockey. But that's a really good point. I mean, you don't find many people anymore in America that are 5 '1", 105 pounds, and you can be bred to be a jockey.

1:31:26Although, you know what typically happens, though? And it just happens in all sports. the sons tend to be bigger than the fathers yeah so now we're seeing a lot of the jockeys that's why a lot of the jockeys in america are coming from latin american countries uh because that doesn't seem to be the case as much in uh in latin american countries as it is in the united states but yeah there are there are lineage uh traits among jockeys as well all right so speaking

1:31:55PFT Commenter:of that uh it's good segue because i this is another cool storyline that will i'm sure be discussed on the NBC broadcast. Everyone tune in to see Randy on Saturday and on Friday as well. Bill Mott, who you mentioned, Chief Wallaby, who's your pick. His son has two horses in the race as a trainer. Riley Mott. I don't think I don't remember this happening because usually a father and son duo would work together and have horses together but they have competing horses in the Kentucky Derby. Yep, they do. Riley has got a horse named Incredibolt and another horse named Albus. They're both going to be long shots.

1:32:38But, you know, he's just now getting his career started. He's only been on his own for a few years, and he worked with his dad for quite a while. So there's not a better guy to learn from. And it's really uncommon to see a guy, you know, that young in his training career to get one horse in the Kentucky Derby, much less two. But just like jockeys, right? Even more so, really, the jockeys, because there's not a size issue there. When kids are raised around their fathers, and even when daughters are raised around their fathers, it's really, really common for them to decide to go into the horse racing business themselves as trainers.

1:33:20Mark Cassie, who had a horse in the Kentucky Derby until he got scratched, silent tactic. His son, Norm, worked for him for a long time. and is now a trainer on his own. It was a famous combination way back in the day. Ben Jones, who right now is tied with Bob Baffert for the most Kentucky Derby wins, six. I mean, we're talking about Calumet Farm back in the 40s and 50s and 60s. His son, Jimmy Jones, was a top, top class trainer as well. Brad Cox, a trainer right now. He's got a couple of sons in the business that are going to wind up being trainers on their own. Todd Fletcher has a son that really, really wants to be a trainer when he grows up.

1:34:00He's growing up, but when he gets older. So, yeah, it happens a lot, and you're going to see a lot more of it. Wayne Lucas had a son that was involved in horse racing. Jeff Lucas said he would have been a great trainer or not for an injury. So it happens a lot in horse racing.

1:34:16Big Cat:Randy, it looks beautiful there in Louisville. What is the perfect horse racing weather? Perfect for horses. Horses like cool weather more than they like hot weather. They are not hot weather animals. So the perfect thing for a racehorse would probably be, I'd say, upper 40s, lower 50s. Okay. If you get in the summer and you're at a racetrack and it's hot and the horse is just like, ah, you know, they don't like it. And then all of a sudden, the fall turns, and you get this one morning, this first morning, when it's like, you know, 46 degrees outside. The horses go freaking berserk. They're like orangutans all over the place.

1:35:03They are so happy that they're getting this cool weather, and that's really the kind of weather they like.

1:35:09Big Cat:Yeah, us too. It's like football weather.

1:35:11PFT Commenter:It's going to be the kind of... Yeah, yeah. I saw it's going to be the coolest Kentucky Derby in like 30 years or something. It's going to be like 60 degrees. Yeah, upper 50, 60 degrees.

1:35:21Big Cat:The horses will absolutely love it. Okay, so that's good, fast weather. And you gave us your pick for the Derby. Is there a long shot that you think might be worth sprinkling some money on? There was a long shot that I liked. It just got scratched this morning, a horse named Full Effort. If you want a horse to put in the bottom part of your superfectus and trifectus, Golden Tempo, a horse that finished second. in the Louisiana Derby is probably going to be 30 to 1, 25, 30 to 1. He's a stretch runner. He may be last going down the backstretch, but we expect a pretty fast early pace. And that's, those are the long shots that really work well in the super and in the try are the horses that come along at the end and pick up the pieces and they're not fast enough to win, but they're fast enough at a Big price, you know, to key a pretty nice payoff.

1:36:17Yeah.

1:36:18PFT Commenter:Okay, Randy, a couple last questions. The first, we have to ask this every single year. Is this the year that Japan wins a derby? The answer is no, but we have to ask it. It's like when we joke about a wildcat formation in football. It's like, oh, will this maybe be a run or a pass? Oh, it's a run again, always. So Japan's not going to win, but the Japanese horse, Does he have any chance to maybe finish, you know, in the top three? And you can make a case that either one of the two Japanese horses, you know, would have a chance to hit the board. That's Wonder Dean and Danon Bourbon. Danon Bourbon probably might be a little bit better than Wonder Dean, but it's hard to say.

1:37:02But look, people who know the Japanese horses very well, better than I do, that have seen them over there, have told me that neither one of these horses are forever young. It was the Japanese horse that almost won a couple of years ago. So I don't like either one of them, honestly.

1:37:21PFT Commenter:Okay. So not this year. We check that box. Yeah. Maybe next year. Yeah, maybe next year. Maybe next year we'll get it. It'll happen. It'll happen within the next decade. Absolutely. Oh, wow. Making a – I like that proclamation.

1:37:36Big Cat:Yeah. How can you say within the next decade, just because we're due, just because the horses that have been in the past, they should have won? Yeah. Forever Young should have won. Yeah. Forever Young was the best horse when he finished third beating two noses by Mystic Dan and Sierra Leone. Mystic Dan got through on the rail and got an incredibly fortunate trip. It's the only reason he won. Sierra Leone was bearing in on Forever Young the entire length of the stretch. And if it weren't for the ineptitude of the Churchill Downs stewards, then the horse would have been, Sierra Leone would have been disqualified and Forever Young would have been put up to second.

1:38:14But he was the best horse that year. And he came back and won the Breeders' Cup Classic last year, shipping over from Japan.

1:38:21Big Cat:Randy, are you a Kentucky Colonel? I am not a Kentucky Colonel. Oh, wow. So we should probably end this interview right now. Yeah, I don't know if we can talk to a supporter for this long. Yeah, it's tough. You didn't salute when you came on to the program. That's a hole in my game. That's a hole in my resume. I'm not a Kentucky Colonel. This is my 46th Kentucky Derby. Right. But that puts me nowhere close to Colonel status, I'm afraid. I don't know. I'm thinking about nominating you, Randy. We are Colonels, Big Cat and I. Yeah, we're Colonels. We're Kentucky Colonels. And I think who else have we nominated in work?

1:38:54Big Cat:Like Papa John, maybe? Rick Pitino. Rick Pitino. We'd like to nominate you, Randy. I'd like to nominate you to be a Kentucky Colonel. Well, I appreciate that. As long as it means I don't have to drink a mint julep because I can't stand those things. I'll take a margarita any day. You got it. You got it. Absolutely.

1:39:09PFT Commenter:Perfect. All right, Randy, this has been awesome. We love having you on. I got one last question for you. Roback question. R-H-O-B-A-C-K dot com. Promo code TAKE. 20 % off your first purchase. Q-Zips, polos, hoodies, joggers, shorts. Roback.com. Love Roback. Love Roback. There we go. Roback.com, promo code take. Is there any other race that we can look for that you like a horse in? I'll give you a long shot in another race on Saturday. There's a race called the Churchill Distaff Turf Mile. One mile for fillies and mares on the grass. And it's a pretty wide open race. It's not as strong this year as it usually is.

1:39:44And, again, Bill Mott, not that I'm always focused on Bill Mott horses, but he has a horse in there called Temptable. Number four, Temptable. T-E-M-P-T-A-B-L-E that's going to be about 8-1 maybe 10-1 and I think she's got a really good chance to run well

1:40:01Big Cat:so we got Temptible we got Golden Tempo as a wild card for an exactor Superfecta, Chief Wallaby to win the Derby and always a runner always a runner you got it

1:40:17PFT Commenter:alright well Randy you're the best thank you as always we'll see you before the preakness and uh have a great kentucky derby saturday and a great oaks great oaks under the lights yes i should have mentioned that yes it's the oaks have changed to 8 30 eastern that's that's it that's it yeah what's the word on

1:40:38Big Cat:the street about that i think it's going to be a more entertaining spectacle are people excited about it churchill downs under the lights looks fantastic i mean they do it all the time in the summer for big race days and all that and they run at night and it's good it's going to be visually it's going to be pretty cool with a hundred thousand people here under the lights yeah you know what that that might be another dumb question that i have like are certain horses more of like you know early horses and some are night owls like they they've got more energy later on in the day it goes i i don't think that's the case but there are you know trainers like to give their horses some experience under lights if they've never run under lights before.

1:41:19Whether that's training in the early, early morning, when it's dark and the lights are on like they are at Churchill Downs. But, you know, horses, in some cases, if they've never seen it before, it can throw them off a little bit. So they like to kind of give them a preview.

1:41:33PFT Commenter:Makes sense. Alright, thank you Randy. You're the best.

1:41:39Big Cat:Randy Moss is brought to you by Reese's. Some fans believe in teams a destiny, but I believe everything happens for a Reese's. Just think about it. What's the one thing every team or athlete wants? A championship. Why is that? Because half of them are called cups. Stanley, World, Ryder, just like Reese's. 1:42:58PFT Commenter:Okay, we now welcome on a very, very, very, very special guest. he is an indy car racer also awl and hung out with pft randomly uh during the combine in indy it's connor daly connor thank you for joining us we appreciate it uh what's up man it's good to have you here i appreciate it fellas uh big fan before we even get started what you guys have done i think for me enjoying sports is profound like i i i was i was always a sports guy i tried to play every sport growing up ended up in one that i actually was decent at but like max homa is now my favorite golfer because he's on the show and like what like going to see all of your twitter accounts after each of your teams either wins or loses is a fast it's just made sports better for me so i i appreciate that and and i just i love being here so it's awesome i'm gonna give you a compliment back more people should start interviews by sucking our dick like that was genius had to

1:43:58Big Cat:start out good yeah it was also like i i can read between the lines a little bit and you it was nice of you to throw in the like after your team wins in there but in reality it's like yeah no you like to fuck you like to see how how miserable we are when no you're a sick i want to see how many times the bears could be back like i i do love those tweets and and max getting angry is one of my favorite things i think ever maybe some success too pft obviously you know jayden daniels excited for his future thank you i appreciate that yeah but no uh the story was that i was at the combine big cat gave me his dinner reservations for the last night and i was like cool i'm gonna go to uh to prime the steakhouse i go into the restaurant and i go to the uh to the hostess stand i was like yeah a reservation for cats and she looks at the list and she's like i don't i don't see anything for cats uh there's some bar seats that might be available so then i'm like okay i'll just go check out the bar so i start wandering aimlessly to the bar and then connor calls me over he's like hey man how's it going my name's connor i'm an awl it's like nice to meet you he's like yeah i'm an indy car driver too and so we start to talk and he's like you want to just like have dinner with us absolutely let's do it and he's he's the coolest guy ever uh at some point during thank you during the dinner uh uh daniel ricardo uh facetimed you or called you up your guy and he was like oh uh tell uh tell big cat and glasses mcgee i say what's up uh he did yeah so so he's a good friend of yours huh yeah no he is we we i was actually oddly enough just out last week at his house interviewing him for my podcast oddly enough so i'm excited to have kind of some conversations with him and we're we're doing like a merch line together for the month of may for the indy 500 so he's got a clothing company now and we decided like all right he's going to come to the indy 500 for the first time ever with his dad which is which is really cool for him and his family and yeah he's just a good dude and he obviously had great things i mean anyone who I've talked to about being on the show has only said good things so again not too much yeah take

1:45:50PFT Commenter:it all later yeah deeper yeah yeah can I ask a question off of that what I'm dumb that's okay explain to me the difference between IndyCar and F1 because they look the same for sure no it's honestly the most common question Formula One is kind of what a lot of us tried to do and you always go for it when you're when you're young and like I always say you've got the NFL the MLB the NBA, they're all played with balls. They're just done a little bit differently. It's kind of the same in racing. Like Formula One is a world championship. You're racing all over the world, but there's only 22 jobs. And in IndyCar, there's 33 at the Indy 500.

1:46:25In NASCAR, you've got 38, 40. And so there's really not a ton of jobs when it comes to professional motorsport. And Formula One, they're spending$250 million a year, whereas our budget's like$10 million per car. So we have a little bit more of a diverse schedule. We've got super speedways like the Indianapolis 500, which we're doing 245 miles an hour. And then we've got street courses and short ovals. And F1 doesn't really have that. They're just on road courses and street courses. And we've got the Indy 500, which is obviously our Super Bowl. And it happens early on in the season. Oddly enough, it's like race seven.

1:46:59But it's the only form of motorsport where you get guys from F1 and from NASCAR who actually want to do that, too, because it is the crown jewel.

1:47:09PFT Commenter:Right. So that's kind of, it's a unique part about our sport. And you've done F1, you've worked with F1 in terms of testing their cars for them? Yeah, so I was a test driver back when I moved to Europe when I was 18. I graduated high school, moved to Europe by myself. That's pretty cool. It was tough. I didn't get to do all the fun stuff and do all the college things, but I had a goal in mind. And yeah, I did some F1 test driving for the Force India team, which is now Aston Martin, and learned a lot over there, got to race over there, and yeah, ended up back in IndyCar, which is again i'm an indiana guy so maybe it was just always meant to be yeah how uh how realistic are the simulators you know what they've gotten pretty good like they are the ones that you can't buy that the manufacturers are using and like the f1 teams are using they're pretty incredible and and you're like fully strapped in it's moving it's you know your head i've had my head connected to a neck g simulator so like you've got this giant arm attached to your helmet that like simulates g-load for your for your head which is kind of wild you hope it doesn't rip it off but it's it's impressive what they can do to help because again it's it's free to run a day on the simulator whereas like it could cost probably hundreds of thousands of dollars to run the car on the track yeah i mean we had a simulator we had a couple simulators here that seemed like they were pretty expensive like state-of-the-art simulators not what you guys are using but i would say they're very realistic because i would maybe get one lap before i crashed every single time It's not as easy as it looks.

1:48:35PFT Commenter:No, it's not. It absolutely is not.

1:48:38Big Cat:Are there some guys who are just really good at the simulator and then you get them on the track and they just can't handle it? So there are actually. Like workout warriors? Yeah, exactly. Similar. But there are a lot of people who are very good, and sometimes it does translate. I remember the Gran Turismo movie. There was a guy that started playing Gran Turismo and ended up racing real cars. That has happened, but I'll never forget one day. like this is way 10 2010 probably or a long time ago that it was very early on in the simulator with stuff and they tried to take like the best simulator racer and uh and they put him in a race car a race car that i had just driven honestly not that long ago and like one lap in he like vomited everywhere and it's like it was just because the motion and all of a sudden it just it was just a different feeling yeah it's so hard to tell people what that feeling is because it's it's very unique and i can go outside right now and shoot a three-pointer and know that i'm not

1:49:29PFT Commenter:that for sure yeah well i got a ton of dumb questions so apologies but do you ever get bored while you're driving so that's a lot of miles i know it is and yeah 500 miles like six pit stops but the the crazy part about the indy 500 specifically is you are on the limit of control almost all the time and you're always doing something because at that speed yeah it's if it looks like you're out of control you're crashing and you're probably in a lot of pain so there's no moments where like you know when when when you drive on the highway and you like drive from point a to point b and then you get there and you're like oh i actually don't remember like driving really like i was kind of in the zone you know just just going i can almost tell you what happens on every lap okay all right there is that's probably for the better yeah yeah it's it's even though it might not look like we're doing a ton you're always thinking about something you're always we have adjustments in the car where we can tune the handling of the car we can adjust the fuel map you know we can we can tune almost a lot of different things and you've got to make fuel mileage sometimes too so now you're trying to adjust every lap on where you lift is it going to put you under pressure from behind there's all kinds of things that are happening that you just can't really see unless you're in there right are you are you addicted to uh to speed honestly i i've i've never done recreational drugs but racing is my drug for sure like that adrenaline feeling that when you get above 225 miles an hour there's something about that that like makes you i think it's like the fear of death adrenaline like you know how people if they're all about to die they can be superheroes and like climb mountains or something like that i feel like that that is what i think we feel because on the edge of control and knowing how because i've hit a wall and and there are those who have hit walls and there are those who will right it's just part of the game but that feeling is unbelievable and and it is addicting for sure yeah so it puts your

1:51:25Big Cat:body in the zone of like you might die at any second yeah naturally you feel that and then it releases whatever i imagine that whatever you feel might be addictive it might it might be one of those things where it's like there's there's nothing that you can do besides going over 225 miles an hour that will replicate this feeling that you have in your brain is that that what's the fastest you've ever been 243.7 miles an hour technically i have a record at the speedway for trap speed into turn three so it's it was very fast i'm far too fast i did lift right after that like whoa i came in the pits it was scary yeah so like big cat was talking about when you're when we're driving on the highway it's like the laziest thing you can do you can spend all day behind the wheel of a car then you step out and you feel just like a real piece of shit like you didn't do it your body didn't accomplish anything that day but when you're driving it's a workout right oh yeah like how how many calories do you burn as you're as you're in a single race honestly it's a lot so our cars don't have power steering right and there's no you know air conditioning no seat warmers no no anything like that so we're you know we're under a lot of heat stress if it's warm out for the most part um you're you can lose up to like 10 pounds in the race like i've definitely lost that before depending on on the temperature outside and you know it could be a 5 000 calorie day like i got we wear these whoop wristbands obviously and those are it's amazing what technology has done to actually track that stuff now yeah like my dad used to race in formula one back in the day and i remember he said he had a doctor that tried to attach a heart rate monitor but it was like all these crazy things back in the day you couldn't really track it unless it was you know kind of crazy and and now we have all this information it's cool to be able to share with people yeah what's what's your heart rate over the course of a race oh i mean it's an average of like 165 like like you're for three hours you're you're at maximum like if you have no yellow flag like no crashes or anything you're fully pushing the whole time which is it's not it's hard and that's and that's why we train like i always i always tell people you kind of train like triathletes that fight because you have to have like a high intensity heart rate the whole time but also be will it like be able to deliver power yeah are there any drivers that after they retire they just get fat because they're not they're not doing these like huge workouts every day with their heart rate at 165 beats per minute i don't think so because we kind of have to be psychos about it so you've it's in your mind all the time that like you have to be doing something i feel like if i'm not working out or if i'm not getting my heart rate up doing something i almost feel like i'm not doing something right you know what i mean right right all right so you you started when when were you first when did you first start racing so i started when i was 10

1:53:59PFT Commenter:years old i'm 34 now i started when i was 10 all right so when you're 10 how quickly is it because that is like everyone's dream when you're 10 years old like you know i remember being 10 years old and getting to driving a golf cart being like this is the coolest thing ever right and then like you know on vacation passing you know the the different like car you know like oh we could just do this go-karts and my parents were like no we're not doing that we're not stopping for you to go go karting but i was like i just want to go kart was it like that when you were 10 or was it quickly like oh no this is actually gonna be my future so i have to start taking it seriously you know that's a great question because i i didn't i i didn't know what was possible i i looked at i grew up in indianapolis right so the indy 500 my mom worked at the racetrack my dad my dad retired before i was born um but he was doing television locally for for the track and stuff like that so i was always at the track but i thought these guys were just like superheroes they were they they were my superheroes.

1:54:55I was like, they were put on this earth. They didn't get born. They just appeared and they were superheroes. And as I watched, and then I got into go-karts and I was like, well, I like football. Like I wanted to play football so bad too. I, I was short. I looked like an Oompa Loompa and like kind of chubby. And so I was like, oh, I got to play wide receiver. They put me at nose guard. And I was like, I don't think I'm going to, I don't think that's my, I don't think this is for me. You know what I mean? And, and I tried to play basketball. I loved it but there was i didn't want to practice those things and when i got into a go-kart i wanted to do that like all the time right and it only got serious though when i started to turn like 14 15 and then you're you win some things and it seemed to be going the right way and then my dad handed me a mechanical engineering book he's like read this and i was like i'm doing like algebra like i don't know what i don't know what i'm supposed to do with this but that was the path like he knew what it took to make it in this sport and like any other sport you're probably playing in middle school you're probably playing high school you're probably going to play in college and it's similar in racing it's a similar path and amount of years before you actually can get to a pro level and like make it a job right what's what's the worst crash you've been in oh man i thankfully i've never been like severely injured i think but there have been some hits there's one one crash in texas with my friend joseph newgarden uh he's a 500 champion twice but But I spun into him and I broke his collarbone in his hand.

1:56:21Not me, but the wall did. It was very painful. That was a tough one. I probably hit like at 80 Gs. 85 Gs I think is the heaviest impact that I've had. Yeah. That seems like a lot of Gs. You feel it. Well, the space shuttle launching is like eight or something like that or seven or eight, I think. So it's very painful. Yeah. But it's impressive how safe these cars are these days. You can smack walls. I think cars can explode and catch on fire and you can just jump out. Like it's impressive where we've, where we've come, I guess. Yeah.

1:56:51Big Cat:So you were saying that you had to, you had to learn mechanical engineering. Is every race race car driver, they have like a physics and engineering background? Sort of. Cause you, you, you want to get the best out of your car, right? So if you talk to your engineer, every driver's got an engineer and you're going to work with that guy to make the car better every session. And so when you talk to him, you kind of have to be able to describe, Hey, the car is not turning how I want it to turn. Give me some options. Let's talk about what we can do. And you're going to adjust the springs. You're going to adjust the toes, cambers, whatever, whatever it is, right heights, uh, geometry.

1:57:22There's a whole list of mile long. We're not just getting in and driving and hopefully me driving better. It's like, well, we're going to work together as a team. It's a very much a team sport to kind of give me the best package on race day to show up and, and, and win. And it's not always the right one, but you want to try to use all your practice days to make sure that you understand how to get the best out of it how many practice days you guys get so for the 500 we actually get more than than any other like we have uh april 28 29 we we run two days uh at the speedway to like get everything going get the rust off get things a little bit loose and then race like race practice week uh we have four days in a row practice so tuesday to friday friday is fast friday uh before qualifying weekend we have two days of qualifying another day of practice and then another day of practice on carb day yeah

1:58:10PFT Commenter:which by the way that was bullshit we went to carb day and it wasn't just everyone eating carbs it wasn't no man i like we we showed up like carb day is gonna rock it does and they're like carburetor dude and we're like fuck that makes sense there wasn't a pizza festival sadly i know no we literally it was first grit week we showed up like dude carb day this is gonna be so much fun yeah it's carburetor you fucking morons we checked out the snake pit the snake pit also rocks you go to the snake pit right that's my one race day tradition so i i and and people question it but i but the 500 has gone well for me the last few years so i'm gonna keep doing it but i i love that music i love ed i love the talent that gets to come for the snake pit and it's the craziest day ever 8 a.m.

1:58:55you got 40 ,000 people just absolutely drunk very early. And for me, it's like a 9.45 to 10.15 window where I've got a little bit of a downtime in my schedule. And I'm going to go to the stage and I'm going to get up there. And I have every DJ that plays a snake pit on the back of my helmet for every race. And I try to get them all to sign it before the race. I've never got all the DJs to sign it because they're either not there. But it's kind of a cool little piece of history that at the end of my career, I can be like, yeah, I've got all these random artists have signed my... And they probably have no idea who I am at some point.

1:59:30But then we've become friends. And my favorite part is to ask, what did you actually think of it? And we've never seen anything like this before. People are hammered at 845 and just living their lives. It's been incredible. Yeah.

1:59:44Big Cat:So we went and I remember it was like double deception because like Big Cat said, Carb Day did not involve pasta. And then they're like, we'll see you in the Coke lot. Oh, yeah. And then that was Coca-Cola. Yeah. But we also. Yeah, but you can respectfully bring. I'm not going to get into this because I don't want anybody to get into it.

2:00:03PFT Commenter:Actually, by the book, I actually wrote about that chapter. Feidelberg was on the RV with us.

2:00:07Big Cat:Yeah. Can't wait for the book.

2:00:08PFT Commenter:It was a good time.

2:00:10Big Cat:So, yeah, it sounds like it's an awesome tradition, especially for somebody that is from Indy. and then recently you've had a lot of good luck in the Indy 500 right or I guess you've had good results with top fives yeah no we've had the last four years in a row we've been in the top 10 we've led every race and like we've definitely had two very very good chances at winning and just there are small things you have to have the perfect day to win that race and a lot of people say like the track chooses who wins there's kind of like an aura about the speedway that you have to be really lucky or just have the perfect day.

2:00:48And we've been very close, which has been awesome. I mean, the only reason I still show up is because I believe I can win that race. And I think we've got a great team to do it. And yeah, you never know what can happen, though. Like, I drop kicked a tire one year into the grandstands that just fell out of the sky. And that ruined my day. Like, we led the most laps. Car crashed. Tire flies off. Hits the front of my car. I'm like, that's never happened before. But those things, that's part of racing. Yeah.

2:01:12Big Cat:When you get into first place in the Indy 500, is there a party that's like, oh, shit, oh, shit, oh, shit, I'm in first place. Holy fuck. You know what's funny about it is there's so much air movement at 230. The air is, you're like in a hurricane at that speed, right? So when you get to the, I'll never forget, when I got to the lead for the very first time, it was quiet. I was like, man, this is, and I could see everything so much clearer. It's like so much nicer. But there was a piece about it that was like, all right, this is exactly what you want to do. this is exactly where we want to be uh and and staying there is obviously the hardest part but it was a really cool feeling to kind of experience the first time that level of everything is chaos everything is chaos and then you get to lead and you're like all right this is what we need to be

2:01:55PFT Commenter:doing yeah yeah that's cool zach do you have some questions zach zach do you play video games with race cars video games or race cars yeah uh not like a forza but i do play some games where i'm racing oh nice do you think you could do it an actual race car yeah oh not a chance i got the body for it i think it is like a severe workout we can put you in the indycar two-seater though i honestly like we can fit you in there we did like a taxi are you saying ride like shotgun yeah right behind oh that'd be fun yeah we can put zach in there you can get in there i'm about to go shotgun i won't backseat drive either promise no you'll just be shouting okay yeah i got you you're in i we got you i can i can check mirrors yeah yeah so i can be shout out yeah yeah you're good over here we'll open over here we'll open some comms Are you any questions for Connor?

2:02:40I was curious. Growing up, did the Fast and Furious pay any impact on you wanting to be a race car driver? Great question. Great question. My favorite movies of all time are the Fast and the Furious 1 through 10. It is absolutely my absolute favorite movie series. I was such a fan of like Too Fast, Too Furious that that's still my favorite car. The Skyline, obviously, that's the best. and I won an Instagram fan competition when I was like 18 to interview the cast. Or not interview. I got to ask one question on a Google meet before we had Zoom and stuff like that. Probably one of the coolest days of my life.

2:03:17I got to ask a question to Vin Diesel. And Paul Walker was still there. RIP Paul Walker. But that was an amazing experience. So yes, full influence. That's awesome. I'd love to hear that.

2:03:28PFT Commenter:What about Cars the movie? Is that real? Do they talk? The cars? No. Okay. But I often talk to my car. I definitely do. They might be talking back. You can't understand them. Do you name your cars? You know, I don't. I don't. But a lot of people do. And they sometimes put actual stickers of the name. And I think my teammate, actually, Jack Harvey, I did look in his car last week. And there was a female's name. So I'm not sure what that might be in there. I have to ask about it.

2:03:57Big Cat:I feel like cars are women, right? Yes. You're like, come on, girl. Come on. Yeah, for sure. For some reason, we just like to speak to them in a nice, endearing way. Yeah. Zach, you got anything else? I was curious about the truck series. Yes. Are those trucks legitimately that low or is it kind of like an optical illusion? No, they are. So I've done some NASCAR truck races and it's a different art form, but they are very low. And if they're too low, it's actually very bad. You can start hitting the front of the thing off the ground and it makes it handle very bad. Also, I have crashed really badly in a truck too.

2:04:30That also hurts. So don't crash a truck. I burned my foot in a truck because there was such a big fire in the front of it. So, yeah, trucks are wild, man. It's a different art form, but it's a lot of fun.

2:04:41PFT Commenter:Yeah. You mentioned teammates there. That part always confused me about racing because you're trying to win. Is it tough to be like, hey, I have my teammate here. I'm trying to help him. And how does that work, like the pass off? Even you see it with F1 where one guy is clearly better and the other guy just has to help him the whole time. That would kind of suck. Yeah, it's an interesting part about racing. I think what is most helpful is having a good teammate because we get a lot of data that comes off the car, right? So you can see everything that you're doing, but also your teammate, your throttle traces, brake traces, steering.

2:05:16And so if you have a good teammate, it's actually quite helpful because if you're both quick, then you can see what each other is doing and maybe even be better overall. But I think what helps is the communication side. So obviously your teams, my team and my teammates team are communicating on like strategies like, hey, if we're going to pit, maybe we don't pit on the same lap so we don't, you know, cross swords on the exit. I mean, like we don't want to you know, we want to make sure that both of us are kind of on the same page. And and it's really just like that. If you have a teammate and let's say your teammates struggling and he's having a tough day and you might be lapping a teammate or something like that, he's going to help you out.

2:05:53And he's probably maybe going to not help out the other guys, which is, you know, that's that's strategy. Like, yeah, I've had moments before where I caught my teammate and I'm like, hey, look, guys, we're faster right now. And, you know, he might give you a chance to go by, which is which is, again, could help us both out later in the race, depending on where you're at. But teammates are usually usually helpful.

2:06:14PFT Commenter:Yeah. But you do want to beat them. They're the first guy you want to beat. Right. And is it can you tell right away, like when you get in a car and you just like, no, hey, this car is not perfect today and it's going to be a struggle the entire day because that's got to be a kind of shitty feeling yeah absolutely i i've never i've never really got to drive for like the the top top like highest level teams um so i've kind of always been through you know working working at it and and really getting the best out of out of what we had and and you can definitely tell and and the best part is actually interviewing some of the guys you know like alex polo who won the 500 last year he is with the best team right now and and they just want to race over the weekend not because he was the fastest car but because that team had a pit stop that was one second faster when they needed it right and so those guys like everyone works together and and and sometimes your best day might be fifth but if you're competing for a championship you got to finish fifth that day and and it's just that's what's hard about every weekend in racing is that it is different every track is different every track requires a different setup every track even every 10 degrees you might have to change the setup because the weather affects the tires, the weather affects the way the car handles, and the wind can change the way the car handles.

2:07:26So all those things go into what we have to do to be successful. And it's hard. At the end of the day, only one person's happy. One winner.

2:07:34Big Cat:You know, after a football game, if they interview the quarterback, he can't say anything bad about his offensive line. Yeah. As a driver, is it against the etiquette to say anything bad about the car? Oh, probably, yeah. It depends on who you are. If you're super successful all the time, you can probably get away with a bit more. If you haven't been as successful yet, you probably can't get away with that as much. But the crew that do put in all the work, it's so hard to talk bad about any of those guys and girls. I mean, they're busting their butts like all day long, early mornings. At the 500, you show up at like 5 in the morning.

2:08:09You're there all day. You've been there all month. So it's hard to say anything bad about the crews because they do work so hard.

2:08:16Big Cat:Yeah, yeah. Yeah, the crew's – that's one of the most amazing parts of motorsports is when they jump over the ledge and then like two seconds later, four new tires, everything's screwed in, and then the car peels out. It's like, how does that happen? How do you even get good enough at changing a tire to be a professional like that? What's the career path like for those guys? You know, I think it's different for everyone. I feel like we actually, oddly enough, had an offensive lineman for the Packers a couple years ago. He ended up as my fueler because he loved motorsport, and massive dude and carrying the fuel rig requires a massive person yeah and so the team owner at the time just was like hey do you want to like come in and try out to be on the crew and now he's on he's on the meyer shank racing team he's a really good i mean he's still in racing he's he does a great job massive dude um and so it just depends i think a lot of people are very good mechanics and that's what they went to school for that's what they do and there are people who just love cars too and they want to put in a lot of work and so there's a lot of and a lot of women in our sport too that are that are that are actually slinging wrenches and slinging wheel guns that's a great idea though like anybody that doesn't get drafted and they don't get invited to or after the last round of cuts in the nfl just hit up all the offensive linemen defensive linemen be like hey you want to carry a fuel rig yeah you're fast dude i think it's gonna happen more than you do you think like we need those guys and and it's it's a kind of a cool gig yeah yeah um we talked a little bit about how uh you had you're now managing type one diabetes like when did you discover that you were a diabetic so i was 14 uh when i got diagnosed type one is the one that wasn't your fault yes yeah yes yeah i always forget which no unlucky duckling yeah it's all good no family history anything um started losing a ton of weight was just drinking waters like i was siphoning water into my body however i could um and my family didn't really know what it was like but I I guess I'm I'm lucky that I have kind of this mental attitude where I was like all right well I guess I have to do this now when can we race again and so I was in a race car like a week later but it's just been something that I've I've been dealing with and and it's it's never stopped me from doing anything um you know monitor it all the time uh pretty aggressively and uh it's it's really cool to be able to inspire some kids too a lot of families come up to me now now that they know the story because a long time I didn't talk about it when i like when i signed that formula one contract to be a development driver they're like yeah don't say anything about this because no one was really in our sport yet with it and so we didn't really know how to handle it uh but now it's it's you know now it's actually there's a there's a ton of athletes you know mark andrews with the with the ravens like i got to meet mark i was like dude this is awesome that like you're out here doing this as well like there's there's other color yeah exactly there's other great athletes with type 1 diabetes and you know If we can inspire families or kids to push for their dreams still, why not?

2:11:07That's awesome. There are so many kids that struggle with it, and I hate that for them, but I'm like, I'm fighting those battles too every day. But if you can get control of it and you can do it, there's still so many opportunities out there to live and do what you want to do.

2:11:21PFT Commenter:Do you ever have to eat an emergency candy bar? No. In the car, I've got a drink to basically full of Gatorade or any sugary beverage. yeah you're like a hummingbird what about it like just what about in like regular life do you have to oh yeah yeah there's a there's airheads in my car like there's that's all kinds of stuff i don't want type 1 diabetes but that part always like was appealing to me where it's like i medically have to eat this candy yeah i need an ice cream thing i need the cream team to help out if i'm low on

2:11:47Big Cat:blood sugar yeah you know what if you if you win the indy 500 i'm gonna say it free ice cream for life oh man yeah hang the banner for that yeah absolutely ice cream for life that sounds amazing

2:11:58PFT Commenter:This has been awesome. I got one last question for you, Connor. It's the Roback question, R-H-O-B-A-C-K.com, promo code TAKE. 20 % off your first purchase, Q-Zips, polos, hoodies, joggers, shorts, Roback.com, promo code TAKE. I should mention, too, everyone listen to Connor's podcast, Speed Street Podcast with Dale and Eric Jr. It's awesome. I've seen a bunch of clips online. You guys do a really good job. I mean, you're great on the mic. Can I ask, so if you win the Indy 500, one thing I've always been like, dude, why doesn't anyone do this? Just chug the whole milk. oh man the whole thing like if everyone would i throw up though yeah but if like if you just start drinking it and then you kind of give everyone like a one second real quick and you just keep drinking it it would be it would live forever i have dreamed about that moment many times um wasn't there a guy who didn't drink the milk yeah he yeah bad vibes yeah he went orange juice or he was like sponsored by like orange juice folks or something like that yeah bad vibes on that um i'll think about that okay the one thing though about the milk i feel like i gotta share with the crew like everyone's got to get a taste you know i mean that is some good milk

2:13:05Big Cat:that's yeah that's probably the best milk that anyone can have right best milk potentially ever so i i think yeah i think i gotta share it with people and and like i'm this is super random as well but i'm gonna save some for jerry o 'connell jerry o 'connell needs some he's my favorite sports personality yeah i want to save some for jerry o 'connell funniest person i've ever heard of my of all time, and I'm saving some for him.

2:13:27PFT Commenter:Do you realize that you're going to have, after the show posts, whenever we post it, you're going to have his number within 20 minutes because he's going to DM you. I have never laughed so hard in my life. And Max's Bachelor party, is he going on matches? Oh, yeah. Is that happening? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Sure is. What about the outfits for him on that? That could be. Who knows? He might just come naked. Oh, man. I wouldn't put it past him to be like, are we not doing nudes today? He's the funniest dude I think of all time. He really is. Oh, my gosh. He really is. That's a good one. We need Nick Celtics.

2:13:59PFT Commenter:That would be incredible. It would be amazing.

2:14:01Big Cat:I think we could still get 76ers Celtics. I do have a ticket on the Sixers. There you go. You don't actually believe that. Come on, look at your face. You can't even say that with a straight face. Strolling. Come on, man. We're on the – actually, well, Nick's got –

2:14:15PFT Commenter:We don't know when we're going to air this. This all could look bad. Yeah, yeah. That's fine. All right. Well, Connor, thanks so much, man. Appreciate it so much. And best of luck. We'll be rooting for you in the Indy 500. Appreciate it, guys. Thank you.

2:14:27Big Cat:Thank you. Connor Daly was brought to you by Jose Cuervo. Jose Cuervo knows that every moment just gets better when Cuervo enters. You find yourself in the center of the dance floor. You can't help but stand up and high-five those around you at the game, and the room reacts like it just got the same text at the same time. You stop checking the time, and suddenly small talk escalates to laughing so hard you can barely catch your breath. That's the Cuervo effect, the signal everybody understands a moment that anyone can join and a good time that just grows. All you have to do is keep it Cuervo. Connor Daly is also brought to you by our great friends at Mountain Dew.

2:15:03Big Cat:Summer is coming. I can't wait to get out to some more daytime baseball games. I can't wait for Camp Barstool this summer. Nothing goes better with sports outdoors and hanging with your friends than the refreshing citrus kick of Mountain Dew. Mountain Dew was proudly born in the foothills of Tennessee and you can enjoy the refreshing citrus kick of Mountain Dew, an American original. I'm going to go camping this summer. I've decided I'm going to hit the great outdoors, going to go camping, going to bring some dew with me. Nothing's better than hitting the great outdoors, hitting the hills, hitting the streams, going to the lake, bring a dew with you.

2:15:37Big Cat:Grab a dew, tasting great since 48. Mountain Dew.

2:15:41PFT Commenter:Okay, let's wrap up. Fire Fest of the week. Hank. Yeah. Is it Liv?

2:15:46Big Cat:No. Oh.

2:15:47PFT Commenter:Well, yeah. I just wanted to see Max shake his head. Shake your fucking head, Max. It's worse. I mean, this is procrastination central. Not really. I thought I was on top of it. I thought I was in a good spot. I have a wedding, not this weekend, the weekend after. Yeah. Black tie.

2:16:07Big Cat:Yeah. Tux. Last year for the Beck Gala, I got fitted for a tux. I didn't end up wearing it, but it was at this office. Wasn't sure if it was here. Saturday I went to go get another one just in case. Went to two different places. One place didn't have my size in the top one place didn't have my size in the pants and I was like alright I'm pretty sure the tux is at the office so I'll just find that and grab that I've searched far and wide for this tuxedo. Cannot find it so I'm going to need to figure out getting a tuxedo in LA or San Diego next week before the wedding. What about Oh, you're doing purchases on the road?

2:16:47Big Cat:What about in Vegas? I feel like Vegas, there's soup places everywhere. True. I could do Vegas. But yeah, I'm basically like I'm...

2:16:53PFT Commenter:Because you're going LA. By the way, still some tickets available. LA, May 5th, live show. Going to be awesome. Awesome. Rebecca Romijn. Ever heard of her? Supermodel? So you're going LA, San Diego, wedding. Yep. You're fucked. No. We'll figure it out. Wait, so we're going to be... we're just going to be doing max's bachelor party doing all this stuff and you're just like fuck i still got to go get a tux i that probably won't set until like monday but yeah okay monday the scaries will be real we'll figure it out yeah or i'm gonna keep looking in this office but yeah i it's like one of those things where you know when you have something you see it all the time yeah when you don't need it you don't think about it and then you need it and you can't find it

2:17:38Big Cat:If you go up big, though, if you make a lot of money at the tables, go get a nice suit. Treat yourself. I need a tux. Yeah, tux is a type of suit. Yeah. Yeah. That's an option. There's options. I just got to figure it out, and I will. Where do you think that it went at this office? I don't know. I think someone took it, maybe. I wore it for the takeies last year. What I did with it after is a mystery. Someone find it for us. You put it online. Someone bought that. But yeah, it is a bit of an anxiety fire fest. Yeah. Yeah. Sorry, Hank. We'll figure it out. We'll be good. Sorry, Hank. Maybe.

2:18:15PFT Commenter:Sorry, Hank. Sorry about Liv, too. Yeah. It's just a bad one. No, you're screwed. No. Yeah. No. All right. So let's just play it out. Friday, Saturday, Sunday, bachelor party. Yeah. Drunk, hungover, golfing, doing the show. Monday we're driving from Vegas to LA Monday afternoon maybe also tired also hungover Tuesday we gotta do our show we gotta do we're doing an interview then our live show where are you getting the talks Wednesday Wednesday aren't you going to San Diego Wednesday I'll be in San Diego I am driving after the show on Tuesday night and then Wednesday I'm just hanging out with my brother and family so I think I'll have time.

2:19:06PFT Commenter:So you have a limited time to hang out with your brother and you're going to be like, hey, sorry, I got to go get a tux? That's fucked up, dude. I think Monday is going to be your best bet. No, no, no.

2:19:19Big Cat:I've got probably the most reasonable idea of how you can get a tux.

2:19:23PFT Commenter:By the way, I'm officially on rooting for Hank to not get this tux. Come on.

2:19:26Big Cat:And what's the worst? You show up, you wear a suit, and you're the one guy at the wedding that wears a suit and everyone's upset at you? You can't be that guy. Is it black tie optional? No.

2:19:34PFT Commenter:Black tie, black tie.

2:19:35Big Cat:I might be optional. Then you're fine. Just wear a suit. You wear a suit. But Hank, I think I know what the most realistic option might be for you. Who in this office is approximately your size? You just got to borrow a tux. You and I. I think that, I think, I don't know, Connor?

2:19:52PFT Commenter:I got a tux for you. I have a tux for you. You want my tux? I'll give you my tux. You could just go. I don't. Yeah. 2000s NBA draft. Yeah, I got a tux for you, Hank. I got a tux, Hank. There you go. Actually, I think my tux might fit Hank. My tux will fit Hank. Not well, but it will fit him.

2:20:10Big Cat:Hank and I pretty much can get into it. The exact same size. Belts can help everything. Yeah, dude. PFT is a better option. Yeah, Hank and I are the same size.

2:20:20PFT Commenter:We wear the same clothes. No, in terms of actual being comfortable. I'll figure it out. I'll be good.

2:20:24Big Cat:Hank, you know what? I'll bring my tux on the trip. And you can try it on.

2:20:27PFT Commenter:If you're listening to this and you own a tuck store anywhere in L.A. or San Diego, do not help Hank. Do not. No free help. I'll take a tuck, though. I'm going to bring my tucks for Hank. We should get a tucks and just burn it in front of him.

2:20:45Big Cat:It's going to fit. In his size. No, I really just want Hank to put on my tucks and have it fit and then him be upset that my tucks fits him. Yeah. That would be my dream. Okay, PFT. My fire fist is that I did something. I can't say what we did. I can't say when it's going to come out but I've officially retired from running for the rest of my life I'd like to make that announcement as I said I went for a nice little three mile jog the other week everything was feeling good and then I tried to turn on the afterburners and something bad happened fortunately it's on camera you will see it at some point this is the aftermath I took that picture last night yeah no I'm in the same boat as you

2:21:26PFT Commenter:because we filmed some stuff that is going to come out in a little bit physical fitness physical running just don't have it just my body's in shambles

2:21:39Big Cat:mine is more of a structural issue where every time I try to do something something else breaks it so I'm moving forward I'm retiring from running not going to run anymore I think I'm more of a swimming guy is internet invitational in jeopardy I might be a yoga guy. No, because my strategy is I'm just pretending that it doesn't hurt. Oh, that's good. We're going to see what happens. That's a really good strategy. My strategy is that if it doesn't get worse, then it can only get better. So if it gets worse, then I might. We'll see. We'll find out on Saturday. No, on Sunday, right? We'll play some golf on Sunday.

2:22:13Big Cat:I think I'll be okay. But, yeah, my FireFest, I can't talk about what my FireFest is. But, hey, watch this space.

2:22:22PFT Commenter:My Firefest, Max We gotta have a talk, me and you This This weather right now Is a problem for us There's no It is This is a you thing Okay, but it's you too You just don't realize it You just love to be like Oh, I have something fat that I'm gonna say Let me just get Max in Alright, fine, you don't like it? You don't like when the weather switches from cold to hot in like two days? It is what it is I need a buffer it's cold I know and then it's going to be hot out of nowhere and I needed like a 60 degree 70 degree like 2 week stretch where I could be like okay dude it's time you're going to have to wear a t-shirt this summer that's something you're going to have to do but instead my body's going to be shocked I went t-shirt the other day and it was just everywhere do they have bras for men I should start wearing a bra Spanx we both have them Yeah, that's true.

2:23:19PFT Commenter:But like actual bra. I don't care about my tummy. But the Spanx does everything. Yeah, true. All right, maybe I'm back on Spanx. You're right. Maybe Spanx in Vegas. That would get hot.

2:23:30Big Cat:But it's not even going to be. It's been like that in between. Oh, you do? Already packed. Yes. Like the last three days.

2:23:36PFT Commenter:Yeah, but it's been sweatshirt. There's been no. It was like 60. Right. That's still sweatshirt, buddy.

2:23:44Big Cat:60 is good. Yeah. No, but I'm saying when it's 80.

2:23:47PFT Commenter:and then I'm like, oh, fuck, I'm a fat fuck and I feel like I'm melting. Zach, you're the one I can talk to. You agree with this.

2:23:53Big Cat:Yeah, it's not a good look. And also those two weeks of where it gets kind of warm is like maybe you start eating a little bit better. Like you get to jumpstart that t-shirt body and we don't have that now. And that's not good.

2:24:02PFT Commenter:Exactly. They're just throwing us into... It's going to be in a pool on Saturday. Yeah, I don't care about that. That's just a girl's trip with you guys. Everything's safe on the girl's trip. We're going on a girl's trip. We don't talk about each other's physiques. We're definitely not taking pictures. We also are going to say a true sign of a girls trip is you guys will see me at the pool. You'll be like, oh, you look good. That's cute. You look hot. That's a cute hat. Yeah. We should get fun hats. Yeah, sure. Yeah, he won't. Fun hats. Zach, your Firefest. Finish us off.

2:24:33Big Cat:My Firefest this week is going to just be that I was kind of thrusted into Stolen Valor via AI. Lasted like 48 hours. There's a gentleman I think maybe had good intentions, but it's just led to me having to explain to multiple people,

2:24:47PFT Commenter:honestly, in real life, that I'll never be a 40-point guy on the basketball court. And to everyone asking me if that is me, confirm not me. So this is George Jenkins, starting point guard. Zachary Crunley scored 42 points in yesterday's 92-91 overtime loss. That's AI? Yeah, there's way too many people asking me if this is me. I got some tape out there on the basketball court. It's not 40-point tape.

2:25:09Big Cat:I mean, well, I believed it because it's 42 points in overtime. So there was more time in the game for you to score. It's also the same account that posted my baseball stat, so it makes me feel better that that wasn't true.

2:25:20PFT Commenter:So all the waters are muddied.

2:25:22Big Cat:So yours might have been AI. Definitely.

2:25:25PFT Commenter:Okay. Zach, you look hot. Yeah, I've also never been in that shape in my entire life. I could die for a decade. We won't be there. But thank you for saying that, Big Cat. Yeah, no, your eyes are stunning. I'll take AI hot. Yeah. Max and memes, you got anything? Just pump for the bachelor party. Sunday's episode is going to be fun. How many voices will be gone? I got a bad voice. I promise mine will be intact.

2:25:53Big Cat:I cannot promise mine. Absolutely not promise. I got a bad throat, but my thesis is that Phish will not be a screaming concert. No. No.

2:26:03PFT Commenter:But somey. I don't know.

2:26:06Big Cat:I might I'm 41 years old I don't know that I need to be Going to John's summit Well I think we're gonna go

2:26:11PFT Commenter:To 20 minutes to summit I think What I don't even know If I wanna say this What I think future fire fest Is that we've talked Way too much about This bachelor party And now everyone Just knows where we're gonna be At every point this weekend I guess Well I've had like three people Come up to me being like Oh I'm doing my bachelor party In Vegas this weekend too And it's like Alright cool Well we're doing a girls trip It's not a bachelor party So actually don't even talk to us because we're going to be on a girls trip.

2:26:37Big Cat:It's completely different from a bachelor party. We're going to be wearing matching swimsuits. We're going to be hanging out the entire time celebrating Max. Not the same thing as bachelor party. Girls trip. Girls trip. We have our itinerary. Yeah. We got our itinerary ready to go. Yeah, we have everything. We have our matching outfits. By day. Yeah, day by day. What we're wearing for the flight out there, the flight back. It's all set up. It's not. It's girls trip.

2:26:57PFT Commenter:Yeah. If you see us on a girls trip, don't be upset if we look really way too focused and aren't super like, hey, good to see you.

2:27:05Big Cat:Right.

2:27:05PFT Commenter:It's a girl's strip. We might be talking business.

2:27:08Big Cat:Yeah. Yeah. If you see me clenching my jaw real tight, it's girl's strip. If I get hypnotized inside the sphere. We're done with this. It's a girl's strip.

2:27:19PFT Commenter:You forgot Tommy Smokes' birthday. I don't know if you care.

2:27:22Big Cat:Did I not say Tommy Smokes? Did you say Tommy Smokes? Maybe you did. I thought I did say Tommy Smokes. Okay, you did say Tommy Smokes. Probably not. Shut the fuck up, man.

2:27:30PFT Commenter:All right. Numbers. 56 77
