0:39Josh Widdicombe:Rightly so. And do you know why I can say that, Rob? Why? And you know this, I've test-driven one.

0:44Tom Davis:Oh yeah, and I've been test-passenger.

0:45Josh Widdicombe:I got to drive the Frontera. Thoughts? A, the tech was so good, right, that it was just simple. I felt like it was my car the moment we were moving. Yeah? We had loads of boot room, you saw that. Oh, I had a little peek in the back. I was thinking this is perfect for a family. It was spacious.

1:04Tom Davis:It was easy to use. And do you know what as well? No offence. I wasn't too near you.

1:08Josh Widdicombe:No. No, exactly.

1:09Tom Davis:There's so much space in the front. I didn't feel like I was touching you. I couldn't smell you.

1:37Tom Davis:Hello, you're listening to Parents in Hell with... Rob Beckett. Rob Beckett. And can you say Josh Whittacombe? Josh Whittacombe. Very good. Can you say Rob Beckett? Josh Whittacombe. And Josh Whittacombe. Josh Whittacombe.

1:58Josh Widdicombe:Sounds like one of the Muppets. This is my son Jude, four and a half, and daughter Kit, almost two, having a go at saying your names. I think they've perfectly highlighted the difference between a first and second born. OG listener, whose kids are similar ages to yours. Yep, it took me three years to send this in. Wow. Three years? So always helpful to hear similar parenting struggles and have a chuckle on the commute. Keep up the good work, Laura, Jude, and Kit. If Rob is guessing the accent, I'm originally from...

2:24Tom Davis:Oh, I couldn't hear. Leicester. unless there's a tough accent to get anyway

2:29Josh Widdicombe:now living in south east london south east london

2:34Tom Davis:we've got tom davis on the show big booking big tom i don't know if i mention on here the funniest thing i've ever seen on the internet is tom davis when he's trying to play golf with jimmy bullard and tubes and he has a breakdown and meltdown and just goes off on one and it is one of the funniest rants i've ever seen on the internet wow have you not seen it

2:54Josh Widdicombe:no i i the moment i saw the words jimmy bullard I probably wouldn't have clicked on it. No, but he doesn't really talk in it. Oh, OK, yeah. So it does sound funny.

3:07Josh Widdicombe:How are you, Josh? I'm very good, thanks. Yeah, you look full of beans. I am, actually. I'm really looking forward to Tom Davis. I think he is... You know, it's... I don't want to... It's one way you think I could probably just sit back and enjoy it.

3:21Tom Davis:You're implying that you're tired and you just want Tom to talk and you can just nod. No, I'm not implying that. Do you need me to take a little bit of the weight on the shoulder and let you... Do you want me to marshal the midfield and you just play a free role?

3:33Josh Widdicombe:What are we going to ask him about? Don't think about that.

3:35Tom Davis:No, do you not? No. Sometimes I do. Have a conversation, man. Do you not do that when you approach every conversation? Not at all. Sometimes I don't even know what I'm going to ask someone during their answer. Yeah. Sometimes I don't even listen. And I think I might just do something funny now because I don't know what he's saying. And then he'll think, why did he do a joke then? Because I was in the middle of quite an important thing.

3:54Josh Widdicombe:let's choose something you can just bring up out of nowhere at a really an opportune point and see if he

4:01Tom Davis:well last time we spoke about his surrogacy journey which is this one I think needs to be a bit more loose and a bit more

4:06Josh Widdicombe:why don't you at some point just do a really a piece of stand up at us like just a joke joke that is totally unrelated just barge in with it and see how

4:19Tom Davis:it goes so just a real like set up punchline down the line even on stage would feel like oh he's doing a traditional joke yeah there's a joke there's a good joke right I've got one I can do should I tease you but I don't know if it'll have the same impact if you do it later on thanks for doing this Tom obviously we loved doing this podcast but it's a bit depressing when no one comes reminds me of my marriage I'm joking I do loads so talk us about surrogacy yeah cool cool let's see how we I think I'm not going to because he'll be confused it'll take a lot of explaining do you know what I'm going to do?

5:00Tom Davis:Do you want to hear a good joke?

5:02Josh Widdicombe:So a guy goes into a cafe So you're going to do one now? Yeah Go on So imagine Tom sitting there and he goes and I suppose that's when we imagined that we'll go through surrogacy and I'm going to say that reminds me actually a guy walks into a cafe right and there's a sign that says cheese rolls one pound ham sandwiches two pounds wanks five pounds and he says you're the woman that does the wanks and she says yeah and he says wash your hands I'll have a ham sandwich

5:38Josh Widdicombe:bit of fun isn't it

5:39Tom Davis:it's a good joke I think it would be really unfair just to do that at him do you know what I mean he's come on and then out of nowhere I just do a weird joke about my marriage and then you're doing like the ham wanking one it's a great joke but I don't know I don't think it's going to be fair on him no it wouldn't be I'm here to converse I'm here to have a conversation

6:02Josh Widdicombe:okay if sandwiches come up I'm doing it

6:09Tom Davis:if anyone mentions sandwiches you can do that yeah okay and that goes for every episode okay next time someone mentions a sandwich the next time anyone mentions a sandwich you do that joke out of them. Okay. Including Tom and if Tom doesn't it rolls over. Yeah. You can't mention it or you can't steer the conversation. No, I promise I won't steer it. I wouldn't have spent all over but if next time a guest mentions sandwiches or cafes I think it needs to be cafes, doesn't it? It can be sandwiches. Because if you go I was in a cafe and then you go I was in a cafe it needs to be cafe. Yeah, okay, cafes.

6:42Tom Davis:Sandwiches or cafes what do you want? It's your joke. Cafes, let's do cafes. Cafes, next time a sandwich is a cafe and I'm not going to steer it.

6:47Josh Widdicombe:If Tom comes in, if we have a really important guest and it's like, so it's like, you know, Jermaine Greer sits down and he goes, where do you have your lunch, Jermaine? Well, yeah, she walks in with a coffee. Where'd you get that?

7:01Josh Widdicombe:Michelle Obama sat there.

7:05Josh Widdicombe:So with your security, what kind of places can and can't you go, Michelle? If you just want a quick hot drink.

7:15Tom Davis:what if one of your security guards wants to get wanked off and have a cheese roll okay so next time a guest mentions now what is if it happened today it would be quite fun because it's Tom but another guest it could get spicy depending on who it is exactly and the other exciting thing

7:30Josh Widdicombe:about it is these don't go out in order so you might have already listened to an episode and gone that is wild what he said to Camilla the Queen Camilla

7:44Tom Davis:you speak to someone who's gone for a terrible divorce and I just remember like he told me that he cheated on me with my best friend and we were sat in this cafe and go on Josh right let's get Tom on and hopefully he's been to a cafe yeah

8:04Rob Beckett:Tom Davis welcome he's laughing away you're sober I'm sober I'm just laughing apart from the three Guinness yeah apart from the yeah a couple of Guinnesses in Ireland

8:12Tom Davis:So you didn't drink for four years? Yeah. Did Oasis Soap with Josh? Yeah. Then you went to Ireland.

8:17Josh Widdicombe:We weren't together. We were the adjacent rows. We've got some lovely pictures.

8:22Rob Beckett:Yeah. Hopefully he was in front of him. I was trying to do the banter with Josh, because Josh, by the way, knew every word. But I wanted to do a thing where I was just telling people, like, look at Josh. He only knows the big songs. He knew him. But one of my favourite things, but I've known him for so many years, but he was so buzzed up when I saw him. He comes walking through the bit that we're in. And he's walking towards me with this massive smile, like a Cheshire cat, towards me. And he's like, Tom, and all that. And I'm like, hey, Josh, we're chatting. And then I look around, and I thought he was on his own at Oasis.

8:53Rob Beckett:And I went, are you on your own? And he went, of course I'm fucking not. And your mates were just christened people on the table. But for a little while, I just thought.

9:01Tom Davis:He is a little buzz ball of energy when he's excited by something.

9:04Rob Beckett:It's very up and down in my life. You fizz with energy. You're fizzing beautifully. But I just thought, imagine coming here on your jacks and just being so fucking eager. If I'd been on my own, I wouldn't have come over. I'd have gone, oh, fuck, please, God. I had two people with me watching on Aces who just seemed, it was like, they'd come just because they didn't know, they knew like literally four songs. How do you only know four songs? I'm not ice. I was like taking people out. I was looking around. For not singing? I was literally spent more time watching other people sing and go like, shame on you.

9:38Rob Beckett:A real fan could have been here. it was just yeah

9:41Tom Davis:my brothers were so pissed the mates were so pissed that Tom Cruise was the one we were at and he was at the bar with Goldie and they came up and went oh she met Goldie at the bar and I went didn't see Tom Cruise no I went Goldie went what what and he went yeah he's over there with that old woman but that's Tom Cruise

9:58Josh Widdicombe:that is incredible because she had that

10:00Tom Davis:little hat on and he went what and he ran back he ran back did he have an Alice's hat on no but he had like a hat he was hot but he looked like he looked like a little old lady

10:09Josh Widdicombe:Did your brother get a selfie with Tom Cruise?

10:12Tom Davis:Mate, he couldn't even get his fucking phone out. We were drinking, we met at midday and drunk. You had a very different experience. Yeah, I was at a wedding. We had about eight pints of Guinness and got in the stadium. We were so pissed. We were trying to find the entrance to the seats we were in and we did two laps of Wembley before we realised we'd gone round it twice. But we couldn't find it so we gave up and sat at a bar, had some drinks and then we finally got in and then we were drinking rosé but getting carafts of it.

10:38Rob Beckett:That's what an old gal I could want. I was, yeah, I was very much, no booze, but I've got to say I just got so carried away with it. It's just weird to talk, you know, I talked to Rom about this, but he did no interest in I. No, he's not hip-hop, isn't he? Yeah, yeah.

10:53Tom Davis:It's a life-affirming moment.

10:54Rob Beckett:Yeah, I weirdly was like turning to people for about a week or two after going, isn't it amazing because they were the first people who really sort of talked about emotion. Yeah. It's just when you start listening to their songs, I cried twice during that did you? yeah I cried when I turned my back on you straight into tears I turned back I've got a great video of you so you got someone to do a picture of us and this lady's trying to take a picture and she's so drunk and she's trying and she went at some point she goes oh sorry it's a video and you just hear your voice go oh morning glory like oh

11:32Tom Davis:fuck off no videos during the show no no this was I was like, no, no, I went Roy Keane during the show. Did you? Yeah, no, I went, Tom, Goldie, go back to your seats. Yeah, yeah, it's beautiful. I'm trying to watch. No photos of me, please. Sit down, Cruz. Go for a fucking run if you're bored.

11:48Rob Beckett:I really want to get a picture of that right there.

11:51Tom Davis:Tom, welcome back to the podcast. Thank you for having me. We've had you on before, but it was on Zoom, and it was a little bit more of a heavier one. We spoke a lot about your surrogacy journey. Yeah, well, let's see how heavy it gets. We don't have to go heavy again. We may go heavy again.

12:01Rob Beckett:Do you want to apologise to Romesh publicly? Yeah, I did feel bad, because I sort of announced the surrogacy story here. Yeah. And to be fair, that's how I chose to announce it to the world. Obviously, at the time I was on a tour as well, I needed to sell some tickets. But you're back on tour. Yeah, and I'm back here again. But, you know, it was a heavy one. It was actually an incredible thing, I've got to say, doing this. And the amount of people still now who reach out about that journey, which is kind of, I guess, why you do these and you talk about it. And I've got to give you both your flowers.

12:33Rob Beckett:because you're so beautiful. And the tour.

12:35Josh Widdicombe:The tour's the other reason you do it, isn't it?

12:37Tom Davis:Yeah, I mean, yeah, the tour is. Your new tour, Spudgun, which is the reason you're here. Yeah, yeah. Especially you love us and, you know, beautiful. And my daughter.

12:43Josh Widdicombe:Do you know what, Tom? We'll give you the options. You can discuss the importance of surrogacy or your tour today. It's up to you. No, I'm going to definitely talk about the tour. I'll chat about the surrogacy.

12:54Rob Beckett:Or just your daughter in general. Yes. Or the tour. Weirdly, my daughter now basically is the tour. How old is she? Four. Why is it called Spudgun? That was a nickname given to me on Building Insights. Oh, yeah, you were called After Bottom? I think it was, yeah, After Bottom. Because there was that character in Spudgun. Yeah, who was a bit of a, you know, I suppose he was the idiot of the group in a sense, right? Spudgun from... Big sort of lumbering loser, yeah.

13:18Tom Davis:Oh, yeah. Well, he goes, one potato or two. Remember that? No.

13:24Rob Beckett:I love how you said it in such a sort of big lumbering loser. Yeah, yeah. And I know you wrong. You're joining the bar. I know you well enough, Rob, to know that you've described me that way at some point. Well, no, never. You're not. You're a very funny man, good friend, good guy. No, but I thought it was that. And then someone told me it was actually because they thought it's what you called a younger man who didn't feel like he had, like, he wouldn't shoot sperm. He'd shoot, like, watery. Oh, right. Yeah. And they were right. Yeah.

13:58Rob Beckett:I'll take that. I'll take that. I have literally I talk so much about this very subject in the new tour thank you for the segway in

14:05Tom Davis:so is that what the tour's about then that link between that no no it's more

14:09Rob Beckett:about it's about the tour's about perception link between that I'm just trying to get it back on track yeah but it's about the tour's about perception but a lot of the tour you know you've both got kids I think it's almost you can't help but a lot of the material linking back to having children they just they're all every day there's something that you get with them that becomes your material and they do funnier stuff than, and she's a, I mean, How old is she now? Four. Four. So is she the year before school? Yeah, she's just, yeah, yeah, yeah,

14:38Josh Widdicombe:she's in a little nursery. How are you feeling about school?

14:41Rob Beckett:Uh, I mean, she's, she's very much like I was in a lot of ways, and we've, yeah. Seven foot? Yeah, she's, no, she's six foot three at the moment. But, you know,

14:50Tom Davis:when you get to 18, we'll see.

14:52Rob Beckett:She's, um, no, she, she, she's, she's, her attention's, but I mean, she's four but there's an element of like yeah she's a little comedian she's very funny she takes a piss and she does a joke she's just learned the word fanny uh american or british i mean she watches a lot of kardashians we've got all right okay i'm like you know football dads i'm looking at the kardashians like sort of project kim project kim and get her right that's the future right she's got a phone now the thing is everyone's an influencer now so

15:22Tom Davis:Who are we influencing each, the other influencers?

15:24Rob Beckett:Yeah, but the thing is we all influence each other in such small ways. Are we stoned?

15:28Tom Davis:Oh, God, that was really fucking deep.

15:31Rob Beckett:You influenced me someday. I get influenced. I watch your golf. You're now in the golf.

15:35Tom Davis:Oh, I'm a golf influencer now. I've done two videos.

15:39Rob Beckett:That's the thing I find about being a dad now. It's the very idea of going out for four hours.

15:44Tom Davis:Yeah, but I wanted to do it when my kids were your age. But now they're eight and ten and the tour's calming down. I've got time because they're both in school

15:53Josh Widdicombe:so you're going to do it weekdays when your kids are at school

15:55Tom Davis:my plan is to be able to go like drop the kids at school on a Monday and then go to the golf course straight after the school drop and then pick them up and that'll be my day off you're basically a retired footballer now yeah that's been when do you want to be when you're older I'm not even a footballer a retired footballer yeah yeah that's the best job yeah yeah that is the best so that's what I'm trying to do

16:12Josh Widdicombe:how many days a week are you going to do because you know Jamie Redden that well

16:14Rob Beckett:he does loads to say yeah I don't think as much since he's done his knees but what I love about you as well because you could be like a retired footballer but it's not like like Stuart Ripley like he won the Premier League but people were sort of like do you know what I mean you're not

16:25Tom Davis:yeah yeah I wouldn't be going down as a sort of Wayne Rooney type but he looks like retirement's hit him hard yeah I've got time now they're both in school but when yours goes to school full time you'll have so much time back so you'll be pulling up at the school golf bag in the back

16:40Josh Widdicombe:of your car

16:41Tom Davis:yeah chuck them out straight to the calls high five a few of the guys yeah probably receive some quite questionable political and racial views. Try and block that out and just... Pretend still be friends with them.

16:54Josh Widdicombe:No, no, honestly, I'm not filming for Sky. I won't be bringing him down, so you're saying... Yeah, it's OK, it's just me.

17:01Tom Davis:It is bizarre when you go into those places. Yeah, there is an old time, a weird world of golf.

17:07Josh Widdicombe:Do you go to the 19th and have a beer at the 19th?

17:12Tom Davis:Do they call that the clubhouse? I'm struggling with the golf banter. yeah

17:17Rob Beckett:it's the banter on paper

17:20Josh Widdicombe:I'd say if you asked me to describe the people that would most annoy you it would be rich men on a golf course yeah

17:28Rob Beckett:yeah yeah I found that

17:30Tom Davis:which you know I am now do you know the world do you know so let's not let's be honest about this yeah yeah I fall in that category

17:38Rob Beckett:do you know what's bizarre that is when they start having banter about like because we all have this thing where the the very nature of what we do for a living yeah People jump through the process of what they think they know you. So if you met just any other guy down there, you slowly get to know him. You slowly get to have banter. What I notice with playing golf is that people have banter straight away. So as soon as you hit the ball badly, there's no like, you know, oh yeah, I'll wait for him to... They're literally far into you. Straight in.

18:05Tom Davis:And they walk up and watch your putt. Yeah. Can I tell you about the two interactions I had, right? So it's guys on another hold. Okay. so Tom what's it like being a dad

18:20what I love is

18:21Rob Beckett:I listen to this podcast and it's so thinly veiled it's like Nezula you can see through I listen to it as a place to get advice and I've actually text both of you I think I've certainly text Beckett for advice as being a father but when I listen to you've listened to me and never thought normally they ask me about holidays I've been holidays I was passing you about holidays, yeah. But now it was like, it was very like, oh, these two are in, I think, a cinema situation that I'm in now. So I probably should go back and listen to it. But I listened to the more regular ones and I'm like, okay, this is the bit I'm looking forward to.

18:58Rob Beckett:I could skip through the first two Lord of the Ring movies and just get to the end where they all sail away on the boat. Well, tell us your two golfing.

19:05Tom Davis:Well, one, I was putting and a guy literally walked away from his hole to come to my hole to watch me putt. And is that,

19:11Josh Widdicombe:without sounding like a wanker, because you're Rob Beckham.

19:13Tom Davis:Yeah, that's not golfing. That's because he's recognising. It's actually really frowned upon. Yeah. Golf to do that. You should just let people get on with it.

19:20Josh Widdicombe:It's like standing in someone's view when they're potting in snooker. Yeah, it's exactly that.

19:26Tom Davis:So anyway, he's quite a nice guy. He came up to me and he was like, how are you getting on? I went three under. I was on hole two. And he was like, oh, you're doing well in winter. I was like, no, I'm joking. And I went, not doing well in winter. I was like, five, seven, six, nine, ten. He was like, oh, sounds like a phone number. And I went, well, he doesn't exist

19:42Rob Beckett:Yeah, yeah.

19:43Tom Davis:Also, you wouldn't say 10. You wouldn't say 10. You'd say 1-0. And then this is quite, I've never had this before, this guy come up to me, I'd hit a ball so off the hole, like onto the other hole, and so I'm having to go onto their fairway, and I'm like, oh, sorry, and he's like, no worries. He comes over to me and says hello. He's a nice guy. I was like, oh, hello, Rob. I'm introducing him. You should just let someone have their shot and be quiet. Because I always say, I've got people behind me, so I don't want to hold them up.

20:09Rob Beckett:Are you on your own? Yeah. By the way, I will say, playing golf on your own is delicious. It's the saddest thing I've also been filmed

20:16Tom Davis:by a 27 year old woman. What? Sorry? My videographer.

20:20Josh Widdicombe:You take a videographer onto course? Yeah, onto course, yeah.

20:24Tom Davis:And does she have to follow you around the whole way? Yeah, she follows me around the whole way.

20:33Tom Davis:This band comes up to me. I've already got a man behind me waiting to tee off. I'm with someone and I've hit it about three times shitly off the tee. So it's gone right over there I'm trying to do it quickly he's like oh hello nice to meet you I'm so and so and I was like alright he went I'm fascinated by my work I do I went oh alright good for you he's fascinated by his work by his work not mine his work I went okay that's the weirdest thing anyone's ever said then he goes I specialize in high performance in sport and life oh fuck off and it's very hard to say you don't need that when you're already on someone else's hull yeah yeah I'm looking for

21:05Rob Beckett:mid-level performance actually also he's not hoovering up shit golf he's got to be looking yeah top top people he's not going well I don't know

21:13Tom Davis:but like anyway so he was like I specialise in helping people achieve high performance in this and all that and then he said would you be interested in that and by this point it's raining I'm stressed

21:22Rob Beckett:and I went no it is I've couldn't tell you now there's a lot of that and I would say that people the thing about it is

21:29Josh Widdicombe:but it's good that you're getting to relax in your working day Rob with a videographer stood next to you

21:33Tom Davis:the business man in showbiz is fucking turning on me because he's tired I think there's a sort of

21:37Josh Widdicombe:can I tell Tom about you last week I would say you're going to love this. Go on. I saw Romesh on Saturday. When you were doing Radio 2? When we were both working, yeah. Yeah. And we were like, the subject of you came up. Yeah. And we were like, bloody hell, he's doing a golf thing. What are they talking about? Then he's strictly housed.

21:54Tom Davis:Are you? It's me and Josh. Don't tell anyone. I'd start watching that.

22:00Josh Widdicombe:Keep dancing. Can you imagine? Keep dancing. Can you imagine Rob going, and you've really trained really hard this week, as if he gave a shit.

22:09Rob Beckett:I think the trouble is Rob would throw energy in. I've got a gig in Southend in a minute. Podcasts have been a good thing for you. Yeah. I used to love watching you. I was proud when I watched you on entertainment things, but I could always see the glimmer in your eye that you couldn't actually give a fuck about the thing. Like a snake horseman who doesn't really care about what he's peddling. Podcasts come in and you're like, oh, I could do this actually.

22:34Tom Davis:The blessing and curse of my face is you know exactly what I think.

22:37Rob Beckett:The thought of you. I can genuinely watch your face just thinking, I wonder if Frank Bruno would meet Mike Tyson in a fight now.

22:45Tom Davis:Yeah, you did dance well.

22:46Josh Widdicombe:Which of the two roles, if we were the hosts of Strictly, which of the two roles do you think you'd find least unbearable?

22:54Tom Davis:I'll do banter on the shelf. Yeah, you have to do that. I'd struggle with Tessie's job.

22:59Rob Beckett:I'd love to see you, Josh, in a little tuxedo just down the bottom.

23:03Josh Widdicombe:And Craig, what did you make of that? Oh, he'd be tapped out. Oh, stop the booing. He's got to give his views. And you two have worked so hard this week, haven't you? You did it, didn't you? I did the Christmas one. You've got to do Christmas, Tom. It's fucking brilliant. No, no, no. Your daughter. There'll be four years time. Your daughter will be going, Daddy, why don't you love me? Why wouldn't you do the Christmas one?

23:26Rob Beckett:I've got to do you love me. That's why I'm not doing it, because it'll be the end.

23:29Tom Davis:You don't have to team him up with Diamond from Gladiators.

23:35Josh Widdicombe:we're doing the coupling we're going to need a bigger boat I just worry Johannes you'd be good with Johannes what was you and Robert you're talking me off about anyway oh no we were like oh god he's doing a golf thing now

23:46Tom Davis:he just keeps going doesn't he he does so much these two said at Radio 2 sucking from the corporate teeth I'm a little influencer a little creator out there fucking earning his shift taking a videographer onto a golf course anyway

23:58Rob Beckett:so you're parenting yeah I am I'm actually parenting now. Since I last came on here, yeah.

24:06Tom Davis:Because I was a little baby, wasn't I?

24:08Rob Beckett:Really young. Yeah. Yeah, really young. And I remember at the end of it sort of saying, I'll never be in a situation where I sort of look at her and sort of push laughs or sort of curse her not sleeping. And yeah, that lasted all of about six months.

24:22Tom Davis:Yeah.

24:23Rob Beckett:Because it's crazy. We've had in and out of bed. We've been in our bed.

24:27Tom Davis:Me and Josh both have slight sleeping issues with the kids at points. It's hard. Are you all in the same bed at the moment then? No, no, no. She's back in her room now.

24:35Rob Beckett:All night? Yeah, well, yeah. We had a thing where I was filming at the end of last year. I'm still nicking a bit of work where I can. Yeah. I'm not in your league now, boys. No. Did you bring your own videographer?

24:48Tom Davis:So what's she in her own room? She's in her own room.

24:50Rob Beckett:So she's in her own room. But yeah, at the end of last year, I was away working and she sort of crept back in. Yeah. I think that's the problem for comedians

24:59Tom Davis:is if there's a gap in the bed how can you say no to your kid that comes in at night and then all of a sudden you're back off tour

25:05Rob Beckett:and there's three of you in there so then she spent quite a lot of time and then over Christmas she was on a mattress on the floor because you're big as well so what size bed have you got?

25:15Tom Davis:you can't say it like that he's called Big Tom well yeah true you don't know it yourself because you're big because you're like what's going on there He's like, bleh. And you need a special bed.

25:28Rob Beckett:Oh, man, I went for a medical recently, and the guy analysed me like I was a freak. It was so awful. He was literally going, and you haven't had any problems with your heart? And I went, no, I've really. And he went, okay. And then he gets out the dick to phone to leave sort of right. Gets out the dick to phone. Yeah, he went, well, this is, gets out the dick and goes, this isn't in keeping with the rest of your stature. That's odd, isn't it?

25:53Tom Davis:That's odd.

25:54Rob Beckett:this is a penis of a five for two man so it's like Josh Whittakin's penis he was in last week hello little fella what a nice surprise but he starts doing a thing where he goes worth having some heart checks due to the fact he has abnormal hands abnormal his head maybe is slight on abnormalities with his forehead and he starts and you know you're looking and I'm thinking if I had small hands I'd look fucking ridiculous yeah but I didn't say you're out of proportion no the way he made me feel in this situation you've got quite a narrow

26:32Tom Davis:little waist little sexy little samba waist yeah yeah yeah it was got narrower

26:35Rob Beckett:and it was how much have you lost so going into COVID I was about I think about 146 148 kilograms and I'm down about 122 now wow

26:47Tom Davis:so you've lost 26 kilos 26 kilos

26:50Rob Beckett:yeah

26:51Tom Davis:What's that in stone?

26:52Rob Beckett:Four or five stone? Yeah, about four or five stone. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

26:55Tom Davis:So how have you managed to do that with a baby, having a baby?

27:00Rob Beckett:I stopped drinking was a big thing. Eating well. And also, there's a big part of me which was having a little baby. So I was 42. And I wanted to be around as I was. So you were 42 when she was born? Yeah. But I also wanted to be able to do runabout. and I was in a position where I just thought I'm not able to do that and so I prioritised just even now sort of like getting as many steps as you can I know that you have a bugbear you're getting over the steps thing do I know I thought you did

27:36Tom Davis:it's made up though here he goes don't get on his eye all about steps if he's not fucking badgered my ears about steps I'm actually in favour of steps

27:45Josh Widdicombe:I think it's a good thing yeah I love that cover of Tragedy

27:50Tom Davis:you didn't believe that did you your heart went in there you tried to wiggle your glasses do you know what it was

27:57Rob Beckett:everyone's an audition for Strictly with this guy

28:02Tom Davis:anyway

28:05Josh Widdicombe:it's movie's week so let's get on with it Tom

28:08Tom Davis:and here he is as Frankenstein again

28:14Rob Beckett:you can't do this it's the only outfit we've got for him sparkly jacket that's what I was saying fuck me off by the way what Jacob Elordi who Jacob Elordi playing Frankenstein who's Jacob Elordi who's Jacob Elordi yeah he's just played he's the most handsome guy he's just in Wuthering Heights with Margot Robbie oh yeah oh I forget you're a thespian but he's fucking you're almost with Tim and P.

28:35Tom Davis:Shamala Shamala did you discuss parallel with him

28:38Rob Beckett:what's his name Tim what did you discuss with Tim uh a championship manager really really uh we watched boxing together in his trailer did you Are you quite pally still? Have you got his number? Yeah, I've texted him with all his success. Oh. Yeah, he's quite on, hasn't he? No, but you met him in one moment, right? So he was already up there. I would say this, that I have a very Beckett attitude to texting people. You're probably a little bit keener than you should be. Yeah, I think it's fair to say that, yeah, I'm investing a lot more.

29:11Josh Widdicombe:How many texts are coming from you compared to... Can we see your messages with Timothy?

29:15Rob Beckett:I think we're in a position where...

29:18Tom Davis:Let's not think. Let's whip the phone out and find out.

29:21Rob Beckett:Just the colour. I'll just show you. I'm going to hold it up so you can see. What's he saved us? TC. TC.

29:31Tom Davis:Oh, my God. I'd say it's a five to one ratio.

29:35Rob Beckett:Why are some of them green? Because, yeah, I think it's when he's on the road.

29:41Tom Davis:I'd say, do you know what? I respect that tenacity. Yeah. You treat text messages like David Batty at the World Cup. You are chasing them down, not leaving them alone.

29:51Rob Beckett:I could give him advice now when he was a kid, though, Tim, when he does go down that route.

29:55Josh Widdicombe:When he has kids. So if he announced today that he was expecting, would you text him?

30:01Tom Davis:Oh, he'd be rat-of-a-drain-pipe on the text.

30:04Rob Beckett:ATC, big time, man. Well done, mate, congrats. Congrats on your news. Triple congrats. Good luck at the Oscars. But if you need any advice, I sort of found myself, in a weird way I don't know I didn't find I think I was going because my daughter was born when I was filming Wonka so I was so sleep deprived I sort of didn't have the I was just very much I didn't really I didn't also by the way I didn't at that point think he was as big a star as he probably was and I was very I think I'm not

30:34Tom Davis:He wasn't really at that point he's really blown up

30:35Rob Beckett:in the last few years and also I wasn't like and I think you two have known me I'm very much what I am of anyone I don't Yeah you're the same I'm not someone genuinely speaking I just found each other laugh so do you think other people were a bit more on extra whereas I just and also like I say I was so fucking tired you know what it's like I was exhausted you just didn't care you just being open and I would just quite a lot of the time just sit on the side of the soundstage playing championship manager and he would come over and go what are you doing does he like football loves it he was really good he sort of used to play at quite a decent level and I was like I've taken Palmer and it's his

31:11Tom Davis:football manager the new one not an old version no no football manager

31:15Rob Beckett:so I'd taken Palmer I mean this is great for any mum listening because I'm sure I'd be fascinated yeah I would definitely say that championship manager

31:22Tom Davis:football manager is more of a dad demographic

31:23Rob Beckett:yeah yeah but Serie B and I'd taken it and me and Timothy was genuinely quite interested and then he was like what do you do do you play the games I was like no you just sort of do much of the clerical stuff yeah select the team so I've got a fitness coach who looks like he might go to Man United I found him a bit like just very normal and actually Olivia during that time was like Olivia Coleman it was incredible did you know her already? no I've never met but I was going just through the early stage of parenting and some of the advice and some of the things that she gives to me we had a few struggles at the time and she was actually one of the first people who was sort of really was chatting to me quite openly and like I should probably think about this or get on top of that thing and yeah she was really like

32:12Tom Davis:what kind of stuff was she helping with?

32:15Rob Beckett:just I think like where my mental space was actually I think because I was really yeah we talk about working hard and I was struggling like where I was like not sleeping enough and I was coming in and they offered a hotel for me and my family but I was like you know quite conscious my wife I wanted to do it you know so I was at the time I was living up in Stanford yeah so it was sort of two and a half hours every day there two and a half hours to film in and then you know you you get there and you'd just be kind of um absolutely sort of wiped out and then so the whole thing was a blur really but she she was very and there's a few things where she she'd just pick up on just where my mental space was actually and i i think going through that and you know it's getting more heavy i wasn't anticipating to talk about it but but you know just where i was and and it's a very strange thing to go through because i think i was when i said about it on here before so you you end up you know your your mind isn't it's i think when someone's pregnant in your house it's always there and you you know it's there whereas it's sort of something that you know is going to happen yeah but when it kind of does you're sort of like oh shit all of a sudden you go from like you know you've got a baby in the house yeah and i sort of at that time i think there was a part of me that was probably sort of struggling to sort of comprehend that and i probably should have taken a bit more time i literally i think she was born on like it's difficult isn't it because it's wonka yeah yeah yeah like that's a huge but it's a journey you've been on as well it wasn't a traditional i will say though they was like they were incredible like yeah i've never worked on anything without the compassion and the stuff that they yeah what about this i mean i did half an hour on this you had about 20 minutes paternity leave before i was

33:52Tom Davis:trying to monetize your content well michael was didn't you have a videographer at the birth i just use the mirror system on my phone

34:04Rob Beckett:cheaper but it's yeah it's a weird thing and now you're through it and it's a very like

34:09Tom Davis:do you find yourself now that you went through that and there was someone that was older like older than you and like had experienced it herself like do you feel yourself a bit more protective when you see younger people on sets or at work when they're having kids and do you feel like you're that person now that looks out for it because you obviously was in a really like difficult state yeah I think so I think you

34:27Rob Beckett:I've got a friend at the moment who's going for it and you're you're kind of Yeah, and actually stuff that his missus has been through. So you kind of, there's triggers and warning signs. I think as well you're like, I think the thing that I was always most conscious of is the people who, because it's such a fucking mad thing, IVF. It's such, I think, there's an idea that people are going to do that and it's going to work. And actually we were blessed and we were very lucky that happened the first time. But I think with the surrogacy, we'd sort of been through a journey up until then. but I think and since doing this podcast the first time a number of people reached out and there are people that I messaged back and tried to give them advice and you try but also it's very hard because some of those people it didn't work out for and you feel like a fucking a bit like you feel quite low about that and you feel like I suppose an air of guilt in a sense because you know but then you know and I think you now it's a very it's a very strange thing because now you know she's four and you're kind of trying to leave that side of things that now it's just a family yeah she's just there what's the situation with have you told her that that not a four we will do how does that work it's like advice and stuff yeah yeah there's advice and there's places to go and there's you know um books you can read and also the the person that that person's in our life very much still it's a very like active part of our life and that was one of the things that you know you want to really make sure you you give that you know that person changed our life I talked about this before on here like we wouldn't have been in that position and we wouldn't have I can sit here and be very you know for a number of reasons my life has been blessed and I've done incredible things but there's not a day that goes by that I don't look at my daughter and think this is the gift that I never thought I'd have and you know no matter of hard work or anything could have given me that, but actually meeting someone who had enough decency about them and enough goodwill.

36:28Rob Beckett:And that's Timothee Chalamet. Yeah, he was a surrogate. Yeah, we used his semen. So yeah, he spunked in her.

36:39Josh Widdicombe:Just while I'm playing championship manager, you can wake into this. He spunked in his shower.

36:45Rob Beckett:The head and shoulders bottle.

36:48Tom Davis:When you say that, because when the baby had arrived, So actually like the sort of the, and you was doing one cut, what was it that you was finding so difficult then? Was it leaving them at home? Yeah,

36:57Rob Beckett:I think it was the leaving them at home. I think like, uh, I think the lack of sheer lack of sleep. Um, but also just coming to turn, like just having in your head that, oh, okay, this is real now. And I think it was like literally when she'd been born, it was like two days later. It was like, I was out of work and you're like, um, you had that as well on taskmaster, didn't you? Yeah.

37:18Tom Davis:I was six, six days. Yeah.

37:19Rob Beckett:Six days.

37:20Tom Davis:but then do you think it was more it was more difficult with it being the surrogacy where you say or was it just in general

37:25Rob Beckett:I think that in general I think it's a really weird thing because like you say it's Wonka right it's a big film you can't say no to that I could have said no

37:34Tom Davis:to rolling in goof shit on Taskmaster but at the time I could have gone Alex Zorn give me a fucking day will you now I'd go reschedule this you dirty and now you've got the power to do that yeah

37:45Josh Widdicombe:then it was like oh please can I do your tasks Alex please

37:50Tom Davis:now leave it out mate I'm not fucking right get your own soup out the fucking microwave

38:00Tom Davis:but wonky you can't say that at all

38:01Rob Beckett:but also yeah but what you do realise is if you open up and say to someone that I'm dis and they were incredible with that stuff oh brilliant but it's yeah it's a weird thing of like but like I say now it's like it's yeah it's the best thing in the world

38:16Tom Davis:oh it's amazing so what's What do you do with your daughter? You've got clubs, you take us a thing. Yeah, she's got a little drama club,

38:25Rob Beckett:which I've not been... My wife takes her because we took her to another thing and I sort of took her along because I'm quite keen to sort of be around. You can say that, Matt. I know you're from Croydon.

38:38Tom Davis:You're keen to be in your daughter's life. That's fine. Just say it loud, mate. You don't have to be cool to us.

38:42Rob Beckett:I'm a bit modern like this,

38:44Tom Davis:but I'm keen to be around. I want to show you fucking both. I'm keen to put a shift in.

38:47Rob Beckett:No, but I went along and then they were doing a little performance about three weeks later. And she should have been about three and a half. And sort of the guy went, oh, I've given Grace the opening to the play. I was like, what? She's three and a half, mate. You know what I mean? And it was like a proper chunk of dialogue I'd struggle with. And I think it was just a bit. And I was like, oh, no, this is. He's gone a bit. Yeah. He's met me. And he's now it's sort of. I'm like, I don't know if you've had this. Timmy, you're not going to believe this, mate. you won't believe

39:17Josh Widdicombe:you're in the same game you'll know what happens

39:20Rob Beckett:they're like what are you doing alright but you I don't know then there's this weird thing where you're like oh actually maybe and which is that's I find hard because watching her you know when she was doing ballet or whatever and oh god I just cry all the time when they do stuff do you know the thing that we're just fucking we went she's obsessed with horses like obsessed with and my dad loves horse races yeah she's had a little yeah but not what your horse is he's betting on them yeah we wanted to be a jockey yeah she's reading she's reading the racing post did I talk about his last time my dad still talks about the most heartbreaking thing in his life is the day he found out he couldn't be a jockey and he's like 6 foot 4 and this bloke had got him like he was cleaning out the horses and mucking out and then Tronday went when do you think I'll get a chance to write one of these and he went John I don't think it's going to happen big fella

40:10Josh Widdicombe:oh no

40:11Rob Beckett:he went John they but no so I wanted to take we were like we're gonna go to Vienna and we're gonna go and watch I don't if you ever seen the Spanish riding school so it's like dressage it's like oh yeah we go to we go to fly out and we literally get to the gate and someone okay so the flight's been cancelled and I'm not what and they're like the flight's been cancelled to fear and I'd taken a long weekend off of filming I was like for fuck's that and she she's struggling with her V's and F's at the moment she looked at me really like tears in my eyes. She went, Daddy, we're not going to Vienna.

40:45Rob Beckett:And I was like, oh no, we're going there. We're going. So we end up flying to Brussels. Timmy, get the jet.

40:53Rob Beckett:Who the fuck is this that keeps calling? Tom Davish, mate. Bleacher. Come on. Your co-manager at Parma.

41:05Tom Davis:The big guy? The big bloke who stood next to Olivier Coleman. You remember?

41:10Rob Beckett:The big guy at your lunch. so we flew to Brussels and then so it was like what should have been like an hour and a half flight took six and a half hours and like when you're flying with a fucking four year old and then they lost my case but all I could think of is like you know I'd been away a bit so like this is a very special time for us so I was washing my pants in the sink for two and a half days and there's no shops opening in Vienna

41:35Josh Widdicombe:quite tough skid marks to get rid of two and a half days good fun

41:43Tom Davis:so why is there no shops open in Vienna

41:45Rob Beckett:it's like a I don't know some religious thing like literally she can't and also by the way at six foot seven it's very hard to to always get clobber oh you must be able to get pants yeah what pants what pants do you wear I like a lululemon a lululemon my guy okay I like your lululemon vibe and then we took her to so we get to this this horse thing I'm you know kicking up a bit thank god for the horses and so I sit down we sit in the front and there's this fucking three Americans behind us I have a thing I went to watch Romesh's play the other week and as soon as I sit in the theatre or that kind of I just hear someone groan behind me so I turn around and go look sorry I'll make myself as small as I can so I end up sitting like that and the woman's like I still can't see I was like you fucking can't get a cushion there you run anyway because you're not quite good with Americans

42:34Josh Widdicombe:famously you've got

42:35Rob Beckett:a very close American friend and and I'm sitting there and everything's been quite stressful up to this moment. And it's on her actual birthday. And the horse has come out, and she just got the little look of excitement. And when you talk about crying, I remember just sobbing. Just because I was like, wow, this is everything I wanted. I looked at my wife, and we were both just sitting there, and I was just proper streaming. Just her little excited face, and how much that meant to her. You know when you just start, oh, this is fine. If I've got to wear these pants for another month, if I'm going to be alright because it's amazing memory yeah and I think that's the thing of like you know because I think you know she's at an age now where she's testing I don't know like she plays me and my wife off the games yeah that gets worse like I say she's learnt the word fanny and what's amazing is what kind of context would she use it in oh I'll tell you Josh we was at we was at the other day shopping we were in a shopping centre she wanted to go in one of those stupid little cars you know little things that just rock to back and forth how they still a fucking thing

43:40Josh Widdicombe:because kids can't resist them.

43:42Rob Beckett:Yeah, yeah, yeah.

43:43Josh Widdicombe:They're like, they are a goldmine. Yeah,

43:46Rob Beckett:but they're just shit. I'm like, this is, yeah, it's going nowhere.

43:49Tom Davis:And also, normally, you don't have any change. You have to go to a shop to get them changed. No, no,

43:53Rob Beckett:now you can tap them on your fucking phone. Not as far as my kids know. She's a different, she's wise to this. All right. She knows. Yeah. So, she went, I said, no, we're going to whiz down. We've got some shopping to do. We're going to get a bit of lunch. On the way back, if you're a good girl, You can go on these. And she went, I want to go on it now. I said, you know, it's not happening. We've got a day planned. We're going to go down. We're going to do some shopping, get some food. If you're a good girl, you can get on that. And she goes, no, and stamps her feet. I said, hey, you're actually in sport.

44:23Rob Beckett:And she went, you're a big fanny. Oh, wow. And I was like, wow. I wanted to laugh because the way she threw it was so, yeah. She's using it like a football hooligan. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You big fanny. I mean, she's been brought up in a very football. Every song. Look at that. Every song I sing for bedtime sounds like a hooligan chant. Twinkle, twinkle, little star.

44:46Tom Davis:It's insane. What do you sing to her at bedtime? I sing Moon River. Can you give us, if I shut my eyes, I'm your daughter trying to go to sleep. My voice is a little croaky

44:56Rob Beckett:because I'm on the back of Ireland.

44:57Tom Davis:Okay, night, night. Daddy, love you. It's because you're so...

45:01Rob Beckett:Moon River, wider than a mile. That's nice. I'm crossing you in style someday. Oh, dream maker, you heartbreaker. Wherever you're going, I'm going that way. Oh, that's lovely. Are you gone by that point? No, no, I sing it twice. She's going to walk down the aisle to that Tom.

45:27Tom Davis:Tom, picture this, right? She's 25. She's found the love of her life. They're getting married. Can you walk me down the aisle, Daddy, to Moon River? Oh, God, sing it. Oh, my God. No, not you singing. I was going to say, me singing. No!

45:40Rob Beckett:People in the church going, can't even let her have today. Josh dancing behind me.

45:47Josh Widdicombe:The thought of you leading her down the aisle singing.

45:50Tom Davis:Me and my golf gear tapping me off. Come on. Got a text to scramble in a minute. Come on.

46:04Tom Davis:oh that's lovely those are the things

46:06Rob Beckett:they're the things though aren't they they're the beautiful things

46:09Tom Davis:go to sleep my baby close your pretty eyes it's time for all the boys and girls to go to sleep oh wow I sing it a bit better than that I just rushed it through yeah I could say by the way

46:20Rob Beckett:it's the only time I've ever seen you nervous no because I was opening up something

46:24Tom Davis:that's quite important yeah yeah Yeah, yeah, yeah.

46:27Rob Beckett:That's why I want to play golf with you. Yeah. Can I say, by the way, you're like, and I talk about it, and I talk about it. The reason you want to play golf with him is because you don't have to bring your own videographer. Job done. No, but what I love about him, right, is he, and I've asked Rob for quite a bit of advice over the years, but I literally, I said, oh, we should do a game of golf, and he went, nah, let me get good first. Yeah. I was like, oh, really? Yeah.

46:47Tom Davis:I need to get a bit better. No, only because what happens in golf, it's the same with skiing. I know you're going skiing. People go, you'll be all right, come with us, and all that happens is they're really good and you're just shit and no offence I saw you on Golf Life and your head went and it was the funniest thing I've ever said I told Josh about it it's the funniest run

47:03Rob Beckett:so on holiday this year me and my wife we all go away and you're like alright okay let's try and do it so we'll have a little time ourselves where we can just the two of us when she's in kids club but let's also do it so we can go out and separately do so and you can go to the you know you go and have a little spa after and go shop with her mate I'll play golf with the boys so I put so much pressure on this thing where I was going out with a couple of mates that we were going away with. And I was like, I'll go five hours ago to this really luxurious golf course. It'll be lovely. And I'll go along and it'll just be...

47:34Rob Beckett:And honestly, after about three holes, I thought, what am I doing? I could have done anything else. This is torture. This is just... I'd actually so much rather...

47:43Tom Davis:Are they much better than you then?

47:45Rob Beckett:Yeah, yeah. But I'd much rather be in the pool with my daughter. Yeah. Just actually doing something I think I'm pretty good at being a dad. I'm literally... I'm doing something. I'm awful at. Yeah. And you know the worst bit, and exactly what you're saying, Rob, I'm walking around, I could see slowly these people I'm with, you know, like, at first I was really involved in the conversation. Then it was a little less, but I had a sort of 12th hole. I was just, I was sort of like a lingering fart amongst the group.

48:11Tom Davis:It's like, was he still here?

48:13Rob Beckett:Yeah.

48:13Tom Davis:It's like being in a band and you can't keep time. Yeah, yeah.

48:18Rob Beckett:And then I'll go back and my wife is like, oh, do you want to, you know, maybe go and play another day. I was like, no, no, I'm all right.

48:24Tom Davis:When we were on holiday, the Maldives, right, there was a group of, there was like two couples of kids, and the dads went scuba diving every morning for 18 days. That is mad. Every morning. And then I was like, do you do scuba diving every morning? Yeah, well, you just lay around the pool every morning. I thought, oh, okay, we're going defensive, aren't we? I went, no, I was just saying, and then they were saying, for the girls to laugh because they're from up north, and I was going, we're here, go scuba diving, get back from scuba diving. and it's just it's quite a hard to say that Scuba Darwin Scuba Darwin go to Scuba Darwin and come back putting beers and having beers on the way back and all that and they'll get back to the pool and I was like it's dangerous

49:02Rob Beckett:having beers after Scuba Darwin I know

49:05Tom Davis:he's like yeah

49:05Rob Beckett:well they didn't mind

49:06Tom Davis:and they was like Scuba Darwin come back have a couple of beers sit around pool do kid stuff go out for dinner I was like do kid stuff that implies it's like a half an hour slot to like be in the pool near the kids I love it when you see a dad

49:18Rob Beckett:watching a fucking kid in a pool and his heart's not in it it's just literally like his wife will go I'm just going to go to the toilet it's half a fuck and then he goes when you're back when you're back I love it though

49:30Tom Davis:I think it's my favourite film sometimes as well like if I'm not seeing Lou it's great if me and Lou have spent a lot of time together I quite like if she goes I'm going out for the day and then I can choose what we do for the whole itinerary of the day I love being at Scuba Darwin wake up Scuba Darwin

49:45Rob Beckett:we're Scuba Darwin so we're doing that for a couple of beers I have to live life on the edge I love it I love that little side of it I love, because as well, it's that thing when you're grafting, that two weeks is so special, to get that timing. Do you know what I mean? And just, yeah, I sort of was gutted when she wanted to go to kids club. Yeah. And I was just like, we're kind of older girls. Everyone's a best friend at the moment as well. Well,

50:10Tom Davis:it's one holiday as well though, because obviously she's got one, like with ours, they've got a mate to play with, it's that thing of trying to find a friend around the pool, and when they do find one, I don't find one. So it's like, if you're like, I see parents like, well, if I had an only child, I'd just be in the pool with them, be in their mate. Or some are like, I see parents go, go over there and ask. Go at the mic. No, fuck up. Just play with them. But then sometimes they need a little bit of encouragement to go and talk to other kids as well. Grace is pretty full on actually.

50:36Rob Beckett:She'll go over to people and just have a chin wag. She'll walk up to someone and just, yeah, it's just a bit worrying itself. Well, she's seen with her dad that he comes on too strong in friendships.

50:47Josh Widdicombe:So fucking first thing. Perseverance in friendships. Keep texting him, Grace. Left on unread.

50:55Rob Beckett:He's changed his name. That's a worry. He does change his name. He will change it. After the Oscars, he'll change it. Do you think? Yeah. He's probably changed it already. When was the last time he replied? Golden Globes.

51:08Tom Davis:Did it feel like a template?

51:10Rob Beckett:No.

51:10Tom Davis:Thanks, mate. You know what? Exclamation mark. Thanks, mate, kiss. Thumbs up. How are Palmer getting on?

51:19Josh Widdicombe:How am I to text him now and say, I'm having a nightmare with this Palmer saved game.

51:26Rob Beckett:Miss you. I sort of find myself texting him with stuff where, when I watch Marty Supreme, just sort of giving him, like, mate, well done. That's a great bit of film.

51:36Josh Widdicombe:Oh, no. You said?

51:37Rob Beckett:Yeah, I really enjoyed it. I thought it was great. How many people do you think are doing that to him? It must be. I don't know. I'll be honest.

51:44Tom Davis:How many people? He doesn't have to give his phone number. Who asked for the phone number?

51:48Rob Beckett:Huh? Huh? No, genuinely. no I could never have done that we hung out quite a bit when he was over that's the thing I think he's actually

51:56Tom Davis:your mate we're giving you banter I think he's actually your mate

51:58Rob Beckett:he was like and I think also it's quite fun having a big English mate big Tom I think me and you are similar I don't I sort of had a bit of banter I'd take the mic out of the show so where would you go with him we'd go out for dinners in London when we were staying there when we were doing a press tour we hung out quite a lot I think as well I'm a bit You're a great guy. But I'm not like an actor's actor. I'm not... Yeah, yeah.

52:24Tom Davis:And you're not that competitive, needy career guy. I'll take your career and his career.

52:30Rob Beckett:There's no point when you're going head to head. But one thing I can do is I can rock up and have a bit of banter and take a piss out of.

52:36Tom Davis:Yeah, and I think those big megastars don't have that much. So if there's somebody who's comfortable to do that.

52:40Rob Beckett:So I'd be taking a... Very much in the sort of... Like how us three would be. I'd be taking a mic out of... I'd throw co-stars under the bus.

52:51Rob Beckett:what's he doing

52:52Tom Davis:yeah but if you're trying to be friends with Timmy Vashanko yeah of course that'll fucking launch you under the bus got to be hierarchy there do you know what I mean get up kick in the back of his shoe Timmy Vashanko's coming in

53:03Rob Beckett:the final question yeah what's the tour called Spud Gun Spud Gun when's it on till oh yeah Spud Gun tour I mean I was saying to you both before if I can milk it for 18 months it'd be great so we don't need to get our tickets now no get your tickets now we need to sell some

53:17Tom Davis:you've got Isle of Man coming up

53:19Rob Beckett:Yeah, that's really sold badly. That's the day after my wife's birthday is that I'm going away the day after her birthday. But not even for much. And you're going to Isle of Man the next day.

53:31Tom Davis:I'll just cancel it.

53:33Josh Widdicombe:I can't do that. So go to the Isle of Man one to make it worth it.

53:36Tom Davis:Right, so we've got Isle of Man, Paul, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Coventry, Northampton, Dawkins, Oxford. You're going back to the Isle of Man again. I'm not sure that was Isle of Wight. So Isle of Wight soon.

53:45Rob Beckett:That's sold out. Cambridge, Lincoln, Peetanbrook. And Glasgow, please show me some love. You know what? You two are quite cool when you do it. I'm so fucking thirsty. Well, I'm not across the sails. Tell me the ones you want us to push. Oh, my God. I've got no idea. You're across the sails. No, no. I'm not across my sails. I can tell you. Yeah, I'm going to make a prick out of myself. I'm so pathetic. I sort of... You get them sent you or are you doing the seat maps? I do the seat map quite regularly.

54:12Tom Davis:So you go onto the website of the theatre

54:14Rob Beckett:and try to potentially buy tickets to see where there's gaps? No, I just see, I look at it and just get so disheartened. So I could be having an amazing day with my wife and daughter, and then I'll go, I wonder how the sales are going on the day. I'll put up a video.

54:27Tom Davis:You sold 70 ,000 tickets last time. It's in the press release. I know, yeah. It's in the press release.

54:32Rob Beckett:Yeah, this one, this one, like, Scotland really needs to, yeah.

54:36Tom Davis:Okay, let's go with Eddie, but you need help with that. Yeah, yeah. Anything else?

54:39Josh Widdicombe:The seat maps, Tom, that's good. Yeah, but Rob Jim says a go at me about this. Do you ever do the seat maps of other comedians you don't like? No, no, no, no. No, neither do I, no. I don't know why I've suggested that. You down in Exeter? I love Exeter.

54:51Tom Davis:Ipswich, Nottingham. Yeah. Loads. Aylesbury, Southend, Norwich. You'll be all right in Southend. Southend's already sold out. Porgsworth's sold out. Yeah, yeah. Woken's had out. Yeah. Truro?

55:00Rob Beckett:Truro's sold well. Truro's one of my favourite gigs. Truro's a great one. Oh, my God. What a room. It's a great room. What a great gig. I got so excited, I ripped my top off at the last one. That was my last gig.

55:08Josh Widdicombe:Was that pre or post-Covid? That was the start of Covid. That was what started it. Was that 148 kg?

55:14Tom Davis:Postal number zero. I was about, yeah, I was carrying a bit of a derby at the time. Right, so final question. What's the one thing you love about Timothee Chalamet and what's the one thing he does that will wind you up on set? Well, the thing that winds you up is he doesn't reply.

55:26Rob Beckett:I think... And the thing you love is he's famous. So it gives you a reflected glory. I think is, I think, you know, the thing I love for his value. He's going to do it. Of course I will. I think, do you know what? I'm going to be quite, I'll be quite earnest. because I well when you're that close to someone yeah yeah

55:44Tom Davis:just be careful you're not more earnest about Timothee Chalamet than you were about your wife last time just as a friend

55:52Rob Beckett:I would say do you know what I really I don't know about you both but I very like imposter syndrome and I very much question the fact that I've been very fortunate to go and act in things and I never ever think of myself as being an actor and we were filming a scene and as we walked back he went hey you know something I went you're actually a pretty good actor and I was like I'll tell you that that's probably but he gave me quite a lot of he gave me quite a few compliments and it was one of the first times where someone like that yeah but you are an amazing actor

56:26Tom Davis:you put yourself down you're speaking that into existence you are a brilliant actor but because of your background and where you're from you can't feel that because it's like you're being too you have to believe that because you are you're amazing if you wouldn't be in that position otherwise

56:40Rob Beckett:he's one of the reasons I'm in a lot of therapy chaps what don't you like about Timothy Chalamet do you know one thing to ground my gear he had like a personal chef and we were having quite ropey breakfast and he'd come in nothing worse than a star that brings our own staff but then I sort of it was the only time where we sort of I sort of said to him one day I'd gone in and gone you know these eggs are really cold and then he had like he was like and he had a smoothie and I got to know his personal chef quite a bit but they never offered it out and I said what are you cooking this morning he said I do like three different things for Tim three and he'll have one thing and then Tim went and Timothy went hey man why don't you go and have the other two things and that became our deal so actually again it's a nice thing but yeah it's very hard to think I found it I genuinely try in life to always try and find the positives and you know I could talk to you about people I don't know there's none and you've got to be an absolute fucking bellend for me to not because I think you're a good guy that sees the best in people Tom I try to Robbie you've seen the best in Timothee Chalamet that's how who's made me the best person in the world yeah I thought you were just leaving that

57:54Tom Davis:maybe the best person in the world I should say I should say

57:58Rob Beckett:I feel like I've sat through this whole thing with kidney stones oh yeah you're okay

58:02Tom Davis:you're not well what's up

58:03Rob Beckett:I'm a hypochondriac you think you've got kidney stones I think I've got yeah I genuinely think I've got something's going on. This could be the last podcast I've done that. And it's better to know

58:12Tom Davis:what's been a great one. Yeah. I mean, no one to play at your funeral. Moon River.

58:19Rob Beckett:What a little girl singing it.

58:21Josh Widdicombe:Why am I laughing? Timothy. Timothy's in. Paul Bearing. Timothy's in. Oh my God. Timothy, Matt Lucas, rubbish.

58:31Rob Beckett:Josh gets a place by the fact he's the only person who's the same height as Timothy. well I actually knew Tom better who'd come down like that Rob Escher was about to do a speech but he had something else he was doing the weakest link

58:46Tom Davis:he turned out to be Tom's kidney right Tom thank you very much good luck to Tom Spudgun buy tickets thank you

59:04Josh Widdicombe:hello parenting hell listeners recognize that voice yes it's josh whitticombe here

59:12Josh Widdicombe:i have got a new podcast josh whitticombe's museum of pop culture and i'm gonna say it i'm about 85 sure you're gonna love it here are the reasons why number one i'm confident if you're listening now you don't hate me and possibly think I'm funny. Number two, I'm confident if you're listening now you like podcasts. Number three, I'm confident if you're listening to me and Rob, you prefer pop culture to people talking about things, let's be honest, boring things like history, economics or politics. I know I do and that is why I made this podcast. I wanted a show that tells the stories I love from popular culture in the way other podcasts do for drier topics.

59:49Josh Widdicombe:see above. Basically, I wanted a podcast that realised Milli Vanilli were more interesting than Elizabeth I. Join me as I give the definitive, or at least the funniest, takes on Mr Blobby, when Ghostwatch convinced BBC viewers ghosts were real, when a band burned a million pounds for a laugh, The Spice Girls, a truly catastrophic Spider-Man musical with music from U2, and David Hasselhoff, Baywatch, and his part in The Fall of the Berlin Wall. All of them are real, by the way. Either you know what these things are and you're about to learn far more about them than you ever realised you wanted to, or you don't, and you're about to be introduced to some of the maddest things in modern or ancient history.

1:00:27Josh Widdicombe:Stiffnecks will learn, loose necks will laugh. New episodes available every Wednesday and Saturday, perfect to fill those gaps between your weekly doses of parenting hell.
