In short
The episode is a World Cup review and debate show hosted by Pitchside, featuring a first-time guest Luca (Italian, supports a country not in the tournament). They argue the tournament could be the best ever because the matches have been high-scoring and full of comebacks, but they warn the final will shape how people judge it. Luca also gives a detailed critique of Italian football: Italy’s “worst era,” poor youth-to-first-team transition (a “glass ceiling”), recycling managers, and tactical reliance on a five-at-the-back. He blames financial damage after Calciopoli and says Serie A can’t compete financially with England.
Key match claims
Argentina’s comeback vs Egypt showed “plot armour” around Messi, but other players stepped up (Romero, Lautaro, Enzo header). Messi’s penalty misses are criticized. Morocco are praised defensively; they’re used as a reason to root for them over France.
Guests
Luca (Italian fan/World Cup attendee). Other named hosts/regulars are referenced (e.g., Lewis, Theo, Will, Reeve), but only Luca is clearly introduced as a guest.
Notable examples
England vs Mexico (Pickford praised), Belgium’s thrashing of the USA, Spain’s lack of a natural striker, and Portugal’s Ronaldo discussion. The episode ends with a “top 3 players in every position” ranking segment.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to Pitchside! Woo! officially a special guest and first time appearance on the channel let's be having you yes he's italian and he says italian words with the correct pronunciation oh just his name is luca i will say that as a as a man that supports a country that's not currently in the world cup you should be the most unbiased here officially i guess i could be Yeah, I mean, depressing times watching the World Cup without Italy for the third time in a row.
1:30That's crazy. You've been following a lot of the games. Have you enjoyed the trip so far? Yeah, 100%. It's been a great trip. Some of the games I've been to have been excellent as well. And overall, I actually think, I think when all is said and done, we can make this sort of assumption. But I think this could be the best World Cup ever. I would actually agree with you on that one. Yeah, well, even the Argentina game just there, like all the games are mental, aren't they? It is tough to know because we've actually been within the eye of the storm. But when you look back in years to come, as Luca said, it might just be, when we watch all these games I don't even think it's looking back in years to come bro every game is just a mental comeback we're kind of so close to the epicentre that for us it's already the best World Cup because we're here but a bit of sort of remove yourself from the equation in like 10, 15, 20 years time you look back and you think bloody hell some of the storylines have happened as someone who supports Ignatius and who's not here why do you think it could potentially be the best World Cup ever because we're not here so I can't be upset if Italy get booted out in the group.
2:27No, but I just think the games itself have been so entertaining. It's been really high scoring. I think some of the storylines as well have been excellent. Look at the golden boot race. This is probably the closest golden boot race we've ever seen. All the big players are performing as well. Yeah, I think that's another key factor too, right? Yeah, a lot of them aren't. That's what makes it entertaining. But I do think, though, we need a good final. If the final is disappointing, we're going to look back more negatively on this World Cup. Like the 2022 World Cup I think was really good. I think the final is what made it complete if that makes sense.
2:56Yeah, absolutely. And just a little bit on Italy, so you push it in more. Obviously, three World Cups not made. Since the World Cup that you won, you've done nothing. What is the reaction? They won the Euros. Yeah, I know, but World Cup-wise. What is the reaction like back home? Obviously, it's a disaster. Do you think there is a future? Or do you think it's still the worst era of Italian football? I could talk about this for hours, but Italy has just ran so poorly from top to bottom. It's the worst era of Italian football for sure. um there's not much optimism to be honest even like the next coach who's in line to be his contest it's like we're going back to the well he was our coach in euros 2016 um it's just recycling the same managers the the youth system isn't brilliant there's no stars getting promoted no but there's no stars but we also don't allow the young players to become stars because we don't trust them it's like a negative cycle that we can't escape because they keep going with the veterans who aren't good enough to play with poor coaching backward mentality we still play the five at the back, which for me doesn't work at the highest level.
3:54And it's just depressing, honestly. There's kids that I've never seen in Italy at a World Cup. Like, that was year five the last time we played in a World Cup. That's crazy. It was mental. What is the reason that there is no... We'll move on the actual World Cup, but it's just quite intriguing. What is the reason that you think there is no big players coming through? What is... Is there anybody in particular that you think there's a chance? Because I could always remember big players coming through the system. Well, an Italian just got sold for£100 million. I know, like, you can see all this and that, but look at some with the quality of teams here, like to not qualify, it is absolutely like ludicrous.
4:24It's like, if you were to put a bet on that, like with the bookies before, like for the next three World Cups, Italy aren't even qualified, you'd make a fucking fortune. Yeah, of course. I mean, like to not be here is embarrassing. We lost to Bosnia, with all due respect to them, but we threw the game when Bastogne got sent off. I think 11 against 11, we wouldn't have lost that. But it's just a deeper route than just the players. But when we talk about the talents coming through, we're still competing. If you look at like under 21s, under 19, under 17 euros and World Cups we're going far in it so it's like the young players aren't bad it's just the transition into first team football which they're not getting because it's almost like a glass ceiling in Italy which is the biggest issue in my opinion and still win the Euros before us which is class yeah I mean that team there it was more embarrassing that we didn't qualify for World Cup 2022 with that team because that team was more than capable of doing well I suppose it doesn't help that the domestic league isn't necessarily competing alongside the other big leagues in Europe right yeah also that well Inter Milan have gone far they got to the Champions League final only a couple of years ago as well I remember.
5:20But not on a consistent basis though is it? Do you see a comeback for Serie A? Like a comeback as in what? Become the best league in the world? Because you're thinking the mid-2000s like you had like the best teams in the world. 90s as well. Yeah but I always see like Calciopoli killed Italian football. Like you remember Berlusconi who was like the Prime Minister but also the owner of AC Milan. He said that after it happened Italian football will never recover because it financially crippled the country. A lot of top players left. It was like not very attractive to come to Italy anymore. We never recovered and then the Premier League just took over from there.
5:51I don't think we'll ever be the best league in the world for a long time at least, but football works in cycles so you never know. There's not much but it's just smooth steps. It's like Tonali's been begging to go back to Italy. He hasn't, he hadn't even signed his Tottenham contract and he was saying how he wants to go back to AC Milan. He used to piss me off. He used to do it every week. He was like, I want to go back. But like, they can't afford him though. It's like, you're actually too good to go back to where you want to go to. Yeah, The teams that get relegated in the Premier League generate three times the amount of Serie A winner, which is mental.
6:19That's ridiculous. We just can't compete financially. But there's good players in the league. It's just they go abroad. You can't really blame them. Moving on to the World Cup then. We have just... I'd rather move on. We've just finished watching Argentina's comeback against Egypt. We were so close to having the perfect route to the final. Honestly, if you're in Egypt, you fucking bottle jobs I said it they were tuning up for 10 minutes to go nah mate come on man Messi's just got the most insane plot armour possible bro but do Argentina just have that luck though yeah but the heritage they're like Real Madrid in the Champions League that's exactly a great comparison exactly so the fact it happens consistently is not it's got to just be it's just a thing isn't it even the way the disallowed goal happened as well that only happens to them though by the way I understand it's a foul right on Martinez but they said in the attacking phase it was the byline of the opposition goal.
7:13It was a foul. It was a foul. The run to even get that in the other half. It deserves the goal. But how many seconds does it need to be before they disallow a goal? Does that make sense? If the guy hadn't ran so fast, if there was another pass played earlier, it would have been a different phase. He was too good, which allowed it to be the same phase. So he fouled him and then carried on running. That's why it's the same phase. Exactly that, pretty much. I mean, if it happened to England, we're screaming a foul. It's actually a well-worked goal as well. Yeah, it was really good, man. It was a phenomenal goal.
7:41I do just think, like it's we all know about Argentina always fine in a way but like I feel like that's just the effect when you have Messi in your team like not every single player there believes that they can do something and the fact that they've got the backup of having come back so many times like they know they can do it at this point but do you not think that this was actually if you look at the goals they scored there to come back obviously Messi missed another penalty we'll get onto that he's fucking shitter pens he's fucking it is ridiculous how he added another sentence another word onto that sentence there that's quite what?
8:07don't worry I was saying normally we've looked at Argentina he said Messi was fucking shit at pens at pens I thought he was going to stop the sentence early oh no Messi's probably the best player of the tournament he did a Messi stop to him Ronaldo watching that match is in tears we've sort of seen I think in this game speed put him off in this game in this game the goals they scored yeah Messi scored the equaliser which was important but the goals actually were scored the winner to make it 1-0 other players actually stepped up which I haven't seen so far yeah he assisted Romero the winning goal the winning goal the winning goal no it's true Lautaro Martinez it's the first time I've seen him like he actually turned up in the flesh and performed and then the header from Enzo was just phenomenal yeah even before when Messi scored it was like 2-1 and like it's mental health he did a run down the right and like chopped through like three players and managed to lift it and pull it back it should have been a goal there really it's just so mental how like obviously he can't do it as frequently in games now but like the fact that he still has that in the locker just to take on four players at once and find the ball it's just crazy but when he's on he's still the best in the world still untouchable what we're thinking about the race of the golden boot then I still think Mbappe I still think Mbappe I think Mbappe as well but Morocco don't let a lot of goals pass them so I mean even if he gets one could it be Haaland no because they're 7-4 and we're going to knock him out so unless Haaland loses in a 4-3 with three goals scored for him we all got to channel our inner Thogdens and root for Morocco don't we really today I feel Moroccan yeah we all got to go what did he say we have to wear our red and green shirt with pride and the blood is red and green yeah I bleed red and green because honestly like they're I can't be arsed to play France like Morocco need to do everyone a favour well I mean it might be Spain even so Spain is shit yeah but they could still beat France they haven't shipped a goal yet I doubt they would I want to say no they're so negative I can't see them doing it but that is Spain though isn't it they are just so methodical in everything they do but I think France just break them down they have too much quality you know you've called out Egypt for bottling it.
10:10Are you not kind of glad that Argentina have progressed? No. On the off chance that we can watch Messi live? Yeah, we get... Okay, that's a very selfish point of view. Like, personally, yeah, I would love to see Messi in the flesh in the semi-final, right? In a World Cup. In a World Cup. Yeah, phenomenal. We could watch his final ever game in a World Cup. No, no, no. Come on now. That's a very selfish thing. That's a very selfish thing. That's a small silver lining. But for the greater good of our country, I'd much rather play Egypt or Colombia or Switzerland. Well, Colombia might still beat Argentina.
10:37Yeah, that's very true. I'd much rather play an Egypt, Colombia or Switzerland than an Argentina. You have to think. Absolutely, but we're going to the game. No, stop thinking for yourself. Stop thinking for the country. That could be Messi's last ever. We could win the World Cup. We would have had one of the easiest rooms. We could watch England win the World Cup. Yeah. And we could do that whilst beating Messi. Sounds like you'd rather watch Messi play than England win the World Cup. No, I'd love to watch both. He's Scotland, that's why. I'd love to watch him. He's Norwegian. England would beat Argentina.
11:04England to beat Argentina. Yeah, I think it's alright. England would beat Argentina. Why do you seem so confident? When England beat Argentina? I think Colombia, if they go through against Switzerland, would knock these like. I think Argentina are not. I don't think Argentina are all that. Argentina are Messi. No, they're not. But they're obviously, they're number one in the world. There's obviously a reason they're here. If England face Argentina, I will put money on that. Rice and Anderson will lock up Messi. By the way, we're going Argentina around all that. We realise they won the last World Cup.
11:30You can't run. They won the last World Cup. We realise they're the champions. The thing is with Messi though, when he gets the ball at his feet, he just turns it on. that squad is also four years older yeah but Messi the main part of it is Messi getting four years older but he hasn't missed a step he's got better he's the only anomaly the rest of the squad is also four years older don't get me wrong I think Norway is a harder game than Argentina genuinely but like I would still choose to play a fucking Colombia over Messi yeah I agree with that but I just think go into the game it's a silver lining I get to see it for the first time thinking that way I want to win the World Cup.
12:07Columbia would be easier. It happened in 2018. I'd love to beat him again, me, after that last game. You know what I mean? Tug him off. They pissed me off that last time. Yeah, I want to beat him again. Would you rather, though, knock out Messi or Colombia? I'd rather knock out Messi, but I feel less likely to do that. I feel like I want to make Messi cry. Mate, how defensively weak we've been at times in this tournament having Messi dribbling for our team I'll be like that's another end-to-end game again though isn't it? Yeah that's going to be a lot of times I just don't know if a heart can take it after the Mexico game man A heart can take it Yeah but in the stadium when you're drunk it's a little different But also I think Mexico might have been England's hardest test on the run to be honest Like go in there with everyone against you Winning that I think is huge for England I think England go to the final Yeah the momentum now is definitely Well I think Norway is a ridiculously hard game if I'm honest yes very tough Argentina obviously came back against Egypt USA got absolutely dunked on by Belgium oh what can I just say even when they had Balogun mate why didn't they sub on LeBron James Fanny's getting replayed because they lost it's not fair it's not fair the goals they conceded I'm surprised you didn't do an eye for one joke by the way by the way shocking Belgium completely shocking like they knew they had their weakness down to a team me and Wilson we were watching all it is run to the byline and hit it low across the face and the Americans were absolutely fucking clueless.
13:34They gave them all the goals. By the way, can I just say quickly, not to be one of those who, like I told you so, but I did say at the very start, as soon as they play a team that's better than them, they'll get found out. They lost to Turkey who aren't even better than them, by the way. They rotated heavily for that. Yeah, that's fair enough. Here, Belgium aren't even like, they're good. But they gave them the goal. They literally gave them the goal. They gave them the goal. No, but for your spot on, every single goal was a bad individual. Do you know what I think about that? You know the third goal when the keeper came out and like fucked it Tim Ream could easily yeah why do you not try to block that why wouldn't he just go control he needs to hang up his boots yeah honestly what's he doing that's such a that's such a lack of effort and then the fourth goal Lukaku's goal right yeah that is one of some of the most embarrassing defending I have it's like he gave up he couldn't be arsed he literally couldn't be arsed good finish it's almost like the shit mate like the hype no I'm sorry the hype around America was do my fucking head in yeah sorry about that yeah especially Theo's going up to American fans when Tom was like I think you could go all the way Go all the way You'd be Australian Go all the way That's pretty drunk For me it's just a humbling I will say though I will say though Great battle man I don't want to touch you Mexico versus USA The battle ended At the exact same round Yeah Neither went further But did you see the first goal as well Theo?
14:50I missed the first goal Mate Did you guys see it? Des just let it bounce Three times in the box They had like four players all around it. I don't know how he had that much space to run in. He just let it bounce. All of them were terrified. It was insane. He was the superior player cam on YouTube as well. The superior player. They changed. On TikTok it was Balogun. Yeah, you could watch 90 minutes. Well, 45 actually. Do you think what happened around Balogun's red card just actually didn't help? Not at all. It riled up Belgium to try and smash the hell out of them. I don't know if it actually affected the players, but distraction is never a good thing.
15:22No, Belgium would have wanted to beat them more. I was just more disappointed in like Des has been one of their best players all time I think he's been absolutely brilliant Freeman, Robinson, all these players defensively, I think they've been good Is there not a case what Lewis said though? I'm sorry I'm not even trying to tick them but there's such a big quality gap and the Americans, this is a humbling that you massively deserve because you clearly don't understand the sport enough to realise you are shit I've seen Pulisic is getting a lot of stick isn't he? he played bad yeah he played really really bad he's meant to be obviously star boy right in a game like that you want him to grab the game by the scruffle and that Reiner as well is just Reiner did he start that guy he came off the bench he's not been a star tournament though for you Reiner's not playing these are meant to be there like yeah that was a good goal but that was fucking weeks ago mate oh no it's a joke oh right but their star players just aren't star players they're better ones well they're out now so it's pretty bad is it their star players are star players for them Yeah.
16:23Like, again, not to deny, but okay, the best player is Pusic. Like, realistically, like, where we rate him in terms of like... Well, he's the best player in the world according to in America. I mean, honestly, like, Balogun is... Balogun's decent. He's decent. Balogun would be like the fifth choice English striker. They'd Congo have a better striker than Balogun. Do you think this is better than Balogun? Yes. Well, because he plays from Newcastle. Nah, honestly, most of it comes from my anger on the red card. Should we dress from one potential goat to another potential goat? depending on how people view it.
16:54It's Ronaldo, isn't it? He's a god. I will say that is the most underwhelming slash worst game I've seen of the tournament. That was bad. Because the expectations I had for it was so high and nothing actually happened. That was a terrible game of football. It was gone off the worst. I'm amazed but like when you watch England for example we have so many players occupying the defensive line and there's a lot of men there. Watch Spain genuinely there's like a couple players there and I'm like how do you ever expect to score the amount of times Jamal was chopping it into like the six yard box and there's just fuck all that but they don't have a natural number nine they've got a Yathabal who's basically a winger no one's even gambling to get in that space like Jamal chopped it back like three or four times they brought on a natural striker mate yeah Marino we've said this at what point do we need to start calling Marino he's a striker yeah he's a natural striker his story arc is still I wouldn't start him over Yazabal though he's good off the bench he's got four goals this tournament he's doing alright Yazabal has a great record for Spain not even just his tournament in general A lot of people were giving him a chance for Gordon Boot weren't they and they just obviously haven't Gordon Ball Gordon Boot as well Really?
17:56Yeah because obviously that group wasn't the hardest but they've not really kicked on like we thought we would Still haven't conceded a goal though Defensively they're so good but offensively both teams were dreadful but you know Spain I think the biggest difference is they don't have Nico Williams he's injured because in Euros 2024 you could he was so good they got Baena there Gavi played there on the first game but in Euros 2024 they could equally attack on the left or the right. Now they're going so much through Lamin. Lamin's not been playing well. Physically, he's not his best. On the left, the best defensive player has been Kukurela for them.
18:28He's been given the overlap every time. I think Pedri's been a bit quiet. I think Rodri's actually had a really good tournament as well. Yeah, Rodri's been excellent. But Pedri doesn't look like he's on it either. Physically, he doesn't look... He's probably cooked. There's a lot of players like that this tournament. We talk about Pedri and Vitina and Juárez and all of them, all three of them, and we talk about how they're the best, they're better than Rice and all this and that, but this World Cup, they just... I thought Pedri's been... I thought Pedri's been decent. He just has limited options.
18:54Like, what's he supposed to do? Like, there's no one ahead of him. So it's like... Well, going on to Portugal, did you see Chárezma's words to Ruben Díaz? Well, I was speaking in Portuguese, so I don't know. You don't understand that. You're not speaking in Portuguese. Well, luckily, he was basically... Please translate. He was basically saying, stop fucking passing it sideways and actually trying to attack for once. Is that what he said? Yep. Rodri and Bernardo Silva as well. Ruben Díaz.
19:17He said up front basically like you lot are just like garbage like why aren't you? Why is he telling Diaz? Yeah that's the last person to be telling. They did an interview with each other. It was after the game. It was after the game yeah. What did you make of Ronaldo's comments after what? Before we turn his comments what do you think his tournament? I mean it's uh I... Do you think he's getting what I expected? It's better than you expected. You didn't think he'd score a goal. It's not better than what I expected. What did you expect though? It's not better. I expected exactly what we got from him.
19:43He'd like... A couple of goals done a lot. Yeah, but like, no, but like, his impact is so limited. Like, I was saying this game, he should have subbed him off for Ramos. Last game they did that, Ramos came on, brought a bit of energy and he scored. And this isn't even me hating Ronaldo. Obviously, he's had an unbelievable career. But you have to understand, he is literally a hindrance to that team at that point when they need a bit of energy. They need a bit of energy. Is he a hindrance when the majority of the Portuguese players underperform? I don't think that's necessarily fair because you've got Vitinha Jean-Eves and Bruno Fernandes who didn't register a single assist in the entire tournament.
20:14The best midfield You've got a stationary old man up front who shouldn't be starting anymore. He was dropping deep like Harry Kane. He wasn't stationary. I don't think he was awful. No, me neither. I don't think he should be starting. I don't think this... Look, bring on Ronaldo when there's 20 minutes left. The defence is tied out and you need a goal in a big moment. I don't think the stick is fair to give it specifically just to Ronaldo when you have a lot of players who are supposedly the best in their position in that team. The reason I'm talking about Ronaldo is because you've just asked about Ronaldo.
20:44Let me ask you this though, Lewis. But relative to the rest of the players in the team, surely Ronaldo's had a better tournament than the others that you experienced. But what did you expect from him though, Lewis? Pretty much back off what we got. Like a couple of goals and didn't really impact too much. He can't be awful then if he got what you expected. I didn't say it was awful. I said, this is what I expected. Because like Reeves said, I think he's spot on. The other players need to be feeding him. Ronaldo, we don't expect him to be able to be like he was 10, 15 years ago. He can't sprint take on players.
21:10He's not going to be taking on players. He's a box threat now. So if they're not providing him, what really can he do? my only thing is it's not even about Ronaldo it's like from the manager point of view I'm like you should bring on Ramos on that when you're chasing a goal there like bring on some energy and legs like bring on Ramos because when you did the game before he came on and scored I don't disagree with that I think Ramos should have come on it's not even it's literally it's not even a Ronaldo thing it's just that they're too scared to take him off well a lot of people before the tournament said Portugal had the best midfield yeah we did everyone said that yeah we did play for play they did they're completely underperformed as a team completely underperformed I'm really surprised that midfield isn't it's a hard draw but they should have been on the other side they should have totally underperforming as a team they should have been where Colombia is they're under four massively I'm surprised that midfield didn't gel as well it's really bizarre it's pretty balanced a six and eight I'm thinking I should probably check this before I see it but fuck it I don't think Messi and Ronaldo have ever played each other in a World Cup game is that right?
22:08yeah that would have been cool that's why people were hoping it would be the final that would have been the greatest football match ever. Or it would have been the quarters if they went on Colombia's side. If they'd have gone over. What do you think about his quarter then after the game? Well, let's just see what it is so people know. Yeah, so Ronaldo's come out and... Go ahead, Will. Oh. Okay, go ahead. Theo. Oh my God. That's so awkward. Ronaldo's come out and said, before Cristiano, did he say himself? Yes. Yeah. Yeah, right there. Of course he did. Of course he did. Of course he's a third passion.
22:42Of course he fucking did. As he should, by the way. Remember when he said, I'm back? Yeah, fucking two right, he's back. Then he's not. He's back home. Before Cristiano, Portugal hadn't won anything. The biggest title I won the national team with the Euro 2016. For me, it has the same dimension as the World Cup. Yeah, he's in denial, bro. He's leaving the game. I think the standard of football in the Euros is just as high, if not higher, than the World Cup. Yeah, I do agree with that. I don't think he's necessarily wrong with the playoffs. He could have come out and said, look, this is obviously the end of an era.
23:13there's a lot of great players in the Portuguese team a lot of youth coming through blah blah blah but also like he's fucking Cristiano Ronaldo he's not going to say that shit this guy is like one of the greatest of all time he's got a massive ego and he's in denial that he's going to retire and he's over I know he's coming back at 45 you think he's coming back for the next World Cup next Euros he plays for short on the point it's a Portugal World Cup you think the World Cup yeah man what do you think would happen if a new manager came in and just said I'm not picking Ronaldo he could be player manager I genuinely think he'll probably run as president and sack the manager.
23:46That'll jump. He's going to retire for international football. He will retire for international football. His mum said. Player manager. He said himself he's retired. But he said World Cup. He hasn't said he's retired. I reckon he plays the next Euros. I'm not joking. Yeah, 100%. Look, he's not wrong with that quote, by the way. But the bit that irritates me as always is that he's making it about... Like, you could say... I've been part of the bit in one of the most successful parts rather than saying before Cristiano. But can I say to all this guy here, I'm like, fuck off. He has got a point. What I'll say is, when you are so good, you don't need to tell people.
24:18We know it's all, it is you, mate. Also, Lewis, can I ask you a question? It's a disservice to your teammates. He does get berated every day. Is he wrong? He brings it on himself a bit, though. I agree with that. He brings it on himself by saying stuff like that. It's the personality trait where people want to call him out. He'd say stuff like that, yeah. We had this discussion on the pod, didn't we? Like, Portugal actually, a very small nation who don't really compete on international levels, Yeah, but they have so many superstars through the years, which is such a weird thing about the country.
24:46In the 2000s, they were really good. In the 2000s, Lewis Figo and all that, but then since Eusebio, there was 30, 40 years of nothing. Yeah. So like, the fact that they've won an international trophy is... They've had an amazing spree, but like, it just irritates me when he says that because you didn't actually play in the Eurofighter. It came off injured. So like, you're playing down other people's contributions a bit by saying, before me, you won nothing. Can I just ask this? You do realise he has probably inspired a whole generation of Portuguese footballers to be better. And footballers around the world.
25:15No, no, but I mean, like in terms of like kids growing up in Portugal now want to play for the national team. He will not get the credit or the love until he retires. Yeah, of course. Let me just ask you. He'd pick more credit and love, though. If he was a bit, if he frees that nicer, he would have a more nice reception. He knows he's the villain, absolutely. From one villain to another, he knows he's the villain. Absolutely. And also, he's also fucking just gone out of the World Cup, mate. He's pissed. He's fucking livid. It's just an emotional You even saw it After the game Sorry Will After the game Like Spain have just won This huge game right It's not that bad is it It's fallen asleep He's had enough of Ronaldo Spain have just won This huge game right And all the cameras Are just on Ronaldo Forget the entire Portugal team On the pitch Yeah You should be like Just fuck off No but like It is about Ronaldo though Isn't it It's his last World Cup It's huge It's a huge story I do think they asked they must have asked him a question around that answer though he's playing another what what you've obviously answered this Theo one by one is the Euros as big as the World Cup Reeve it's not as big no what he's seen it is it's not as prestigious but the quality of football is just as good no it's not as big as the Euros but like for us to say that he's lying if in his heart the Euros is the same we can't tell him he's lying it's his opinion but I disagree I don't think he believes that though because it's not true the last champion didn't come from Europe so therefore like it's not the same but he might value it the same in his heart he might actually do it he will it's a huge accomplishment for Portugal to have done that and that final was crazy but like he knows it like he knows it and everyone knows it like the World Cup's like the main one it's the best sporting event in the world yeah they're still pretty good but like he still won the Euros with Portugal it's a huge achievement yeah of course are the same sort of regards.
27:09Is it as big as the Copa America? Yeah, no, Euros is better. 100%. Yeah, it's a big... More impressive between the Euros or Copa America. Yeah, Euros is huge, but it's not as big as the World Cup, is it? No, absolutely not. There's no way. But it's still a massive, massive achievement. And because the thing with international football when you're comparing it, you could argue that Messi's had a better team throughout his international journey than Ronaldo with Portugal. Haaland's with Norway, so he might never get the accolades that Messi has. you know what I mean so it's always a bit like a bit of luck I do get the sentiment though that in order for him to feel like he completed some form of international career you only need one of them yeah there's been a lot of great plays you've not won the World Cup hasn't there he doesn't need the World Cup he's also got the most appearances ever for an international side and the most goals I like to think I just mental yeah but I mean having an international trophy would be a World Cup or Euros for a footballer it's huge yeah it's huge his resume's brilliant when he won the Euros would have been the best day of his life.
28:08So it's like, he'll be all right. He's got a billion quid. He's got like some nice tighty-whities that he sells on to people. And he's got one of Euros, so he'll be fine. He's also got a private jet. Yeah. I reckon he's got more than one. He's got a lot of good stuff. Got a big guy there. We are recording this before Switzerland and Colombia. So let's predict it quickly so people can look back and laugh at your predictions. I think it's a Colombia or Argentina quarterfinal. I think Colombia will go through tonight. That'll be class as well. Yeah, I think Colombia will win as well. That'll be a feisty game.

28:35That'll be so fucking good. I think it'll be close though. Switzerland are really good. They are. They've been really good. And obviously they have the best player in the world. Manzambi, yeah. And they've got a Switzerland win. Because he's kind of linked with your... I'm pre-ed that man. Switzerland leaves so we can try to sign Manzambi. Would this be the first time Switzerland get to a quarterfinal if they win? Wait, our quarterfinal of World Cup? Yeah. The host didn't get like the semis won yet or something. Wait, they got... I don't know if they got... Was it quarterfinal? It was quarterfinal against us in the Euros, wasn't it?
29:00Because we took them to the Pens. Yeah, yeah. No, no, no. I'm saying... I think they've been to a World Cup quarterfinal before. Actually, I'm going to go with Switzerland here, lads. It's not much. Switzerland would be great. Quarterfinals three times. The whole thing in 54, yeah. And then what about later on? Yeah, quarterfinals. They joined furthest since 1954. Pretty cool, man. They're a solid team. I still think Colombia goes through. It's not all the question. It'll be a really good game, this. James Rodriguez is starting again. Man, when it comes to the World Cup, he's heritage. Speaking of James Rodriguez though guys we are going to be ranking our top three players in every position from this World Cup Interesting Why did you link comments to that?
29:45That's a really weird segue Is he going to be in there? That's the question How does this how does what we're doing differ to top three best players in the world? Because it's in my opinion is best performing Well that's what I'm wanting I'm wanting you to best performers By the way can I say this is so hard David Ryder hasn't played a single second. Exactly. It's so hard because it's so much football. I can't remember what I've seen. Well, a lot of the time you've been drunk for it too. That is also... But you can go back and look at games on the internet. You've got three players for each position, right?
30:16Yes. Okay. I will say I was really... You can stand out players. I will say I was really... There's a player in one of my selections that played for 20 minutes. I'm looking forward to this. What? Permission to go first. You'll find out. Go on, Lewis. I will say I was... Are we on position by position each other? Let's go round goalkeepers. Goalkeepers first, please, Lewis. I will say before we get into this, boys, I was really ill this morning. Still am a bit ill now, so I was partially delirious. He's ill because he finally stopped drinking. That's right. I'm on withdrawals. Maybe he needs to have a drink.
30:46Actually, I'm on withdrawals. Okay, so goalkeeper, I went third, Pickford, just off that last performance alone. Thank you very much. He was a fucking unit. Bias, yes. Second, you nice, Simon. You nine. Unai Simon Unai Simon He pronounced both names wrong Unai Simon How do you pronounce the village manager's name? Unai Unai Emery Unai Emery To be fair you pronounced it the same I thought you were going to switch off Unai Simon brother So Unai Simon And then I've got I can't remember his name But number one The kit bird You can't remember his name No, no, no. We have to have serious words, bro.
31:31You are a host of the biggest football show in the UK. Lewis, he's got 27.7 million followers now. I'm sick of people telling me about how many followers this guy has. Have you not remembered his name? Mate, I was like this in bed like a fucking turtle today. I couldn't even fucking breathe. Cape Verde Keeper is number one for you. Cape Verde Keeper. I know it begins with a V. I couldn't... Vecinia. There you go, Vecinia. Vecinia. Vecinia. Full self. Go on, your goalkeeper. Okay, right. In three, I've got Unai Simon. Nice. Unai Simon in three. I've got Pickford in two because of what he did against Mexico.
32:10Yeah. I fucking love that man so much. And then first, I've got Vizinha. Okay, a verdict keeper. Same play as Diffinona. Yeah, because I love Jordan Pickford. Fudd Mpasi from DR Congo. Yeah, nice. The one that nearly kept us out of the... He was insane against him. That's right, yeah. He's really good. His good stage as well. The performances were so good. goalkeeper called Lionel Mpasi. Yeah. He was the best Lionel on that day in the World Cup. He was class. He's best that you can go. Lionel Mpasi. That's a really good shot, actually. I forgot about him. Yeah. Second, I'm going to go Vazinho.
32:43And first, Unai Simon. Boo. I'm sorry. Look, I love the story of Vazinho. I don't have Pickford. I don't have Pickford. I love the story of Vazinho. I think he had a great performance against Spain in the opener. The one against Argentina, he was good, but he was still shaky. It was slightly overrated. He did, but the performance overall was slightly overrated. Do you not think that the reason Unai Simon's not higher for me is he's got five clean sheets. I know he's got five clean sheets but is that down to him or is that down to the defence? He made two saves in the Portugal. That's why he's in my top three.
33:12You know if this is proven right why he's number one and Raya isn't. No, it's not. I think he could put anyone in goal for that. They still would have the clean sheets as Raya was in goal. They have the best three keepers available by a mile but for me, Unai Simon, he's massively important in those five clean sheets. Bless you. Bless you, mate. He's got 100 % save record as well. He saved every shot he's faced on target. He just has been overall the best. It makes sense that you both wouldn't have Pickford as, you know, your Italian. Scottish and the Italian. No, no, no. No, do you not as Lewis?
33:40Pickford. Against Mexico was incredible. Yeah, for one game, but like across the, he's not been amazing for all of it. Against Congo, on the goal we considered You called him out. You literally called him out on the pod after we got back. Yeah, no, but Mexico. He should be doing better. But Mexico, Lord, he deserves it, man. No, but based on one performance, fair enough. But I'm going over the course of the whole World Cup. Pickford didn't get 30 million followers from one game, did he? I hate this follower chat now. Third, I've got U2's finest, Bono. Yeah, that's a good shout-out. Second, I've got Vazinha.
34:11And then first, Unai Simon. Bono's a really good shout-out. Morocco have been brilliant defensively. And against Holland in the penalty shootout, he was so, so good. Right back, Hakimi. Wait, why are you going first again? We're not switching up the order. you can go first we laugh at him no but when then we can move no no but we can move round one ok I'll go first at right back in three I've got Pedro Porro yes he's been brilliant it pains me to say that but he has been brilliant in two I've got Hakimi ooh yeah I also also quite what I like about Hakimi right is he's just like he's basically a striker half the time and captain mate yeah and captain and right back I've got Munoz right back I've got right number one At number one, I got Daniel Munoz.
34:53I've got Freeman, third. Second, Munoz, first, Hakimi. Interesting. Very similarly towards the end. I've got Pedro Pora, third. Munoz, second. And just because Hakimi's played an extra game and obviously in that performance, he was pretty good, Hakimi first. I know I had Freeman in my team in the tournament after the group stage as well. Can I change your mind? I can change my mind. Exactly that. But you had him at centre-back. So that would be contradicting. Well, he is at centre-right-back and he's free-back. He played centre-back once.
35:23it wouldn't be team in the tournament for a centre back would it I had to fit him in bro you didn't have he deserved it I got Hakimi third Munoz and then Pedro Porra Hakimi third you think Hakimi's been the worst out of the three that we've mentioned you're so shit at this why was that shit look you can pick any I actually think you can put any three of those in any order well I mean you kind of have to decipher who's first, second, third but are you picking Porra on the basis of clean sheets alone as opposed to actual impact in the game I mean like look ultimately they haven't even fucking conceded so how can I not he has been good they haven't conceded a goal you know what I mean he looks weird in a Spanish kick wait but who did you have as the first keeper Vazinha Cape Verde keeper but the logic for the yeah but the expectation I think it's crazier his performance for Cape Verde compared to Spain the ultra defensive team not conceding I think we can all agree there's one that was a bit more mental.
36:20This keeper out of nowhere. Who has an eye condition actually I've heard today. He's got glass eye. Glass eye bro. He's thrown a fun fact. Yeah. And then just being like a fucking god. He's saving every shot There's not actually a glass eye by the way it's a bionic eye that spots the ball from my heart. I killed him. Slows down the ball in real time. Luke here you're up. So going left back? Who's in left back? Center back. Oh I've gone center backs. Yeah center backs are annoying though because I've got three. Yeah I've got three but I want to do No three. You want to do Do centre-backs first or left-backs?
36:49Yeah, go centre-backs. Third, Mbokazi from South Africa. Second, this is tough because top two, I think, is so interchangeable. I'm going to go Upamakano, Kabasi first. Oh, interesting. Did you go the exact same? I didn't go the exact same because third, I've got Big Dan Byrne. Yes! For his 20 minutes ultra mammoth performance. And I wanted to put him in there. I like that a lot. Second, I got a Pippa Makano and then first, I got Kibar. Do you see that stat about Dan Burns' clearances, by the way? 20 minutes of game time, eight defensive contributions. Do you know what? Six clearances as well, which is the most ever since records began, which was 1966.
37:31The stars were aligned. Anders Lewis said, the furthest headed clearance ever in a football match. Have you seen the... Four million miles. Have you seen the video where it's... Have you seen the video they got where it's basically like you see it from his point of view and all the crosses coming in. So like you can see... Yeah, so you can see what it looked like for him on all of them. Just like batting away. You just started to come around. Do you understand what it's like to have a Dan Byrne team? He's third in my list. Yeah, I know. But like, Dan Byrne used to be laughed at. And he was laughed at when he was picked.
37:58Do you know what I read as well? Do you know what I read as well? Before we get into the... Like, we don't want to talk too much about Norway-England preview. But Haaland's never scored a goal against him when he's played at centre-back. Yeah, Dan Byrne fucking pockets that guy. He might have to start. Yeah, literally. Have you heard that? They've had some good battles together, though. Go on, Gulu. your centre-back glue alright I've got Kibasi third yeah third yeah because I've got two other names ahead of him oh yeah second for Argentina Martinez I think he's had a very good tournament Sandra Martinez he scored a great goal I was talking about it and first I called him in the team with a week early in the tournament and he's went on to prove me right even against England as well it's Chance Ellen Bamba what a player for Congo I think he's been the best centre-back of the entire tournament to expectations Yes.
38:45Surely Twanzaby was better than him. He's fucking shitting. Hasn't Twanzaby had a better tournament than him? Tansel and Bemba locked down the goals, Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Kane. You think Ronaldo's the go? He didn't lock Harry Kane down, did he? He is for my argument now, yeah. Lewis, he didn't lock Harry Kane down because he's got twice. No, because he scored twice and dunked on him. Locked him down for a bit, though. He should have been booked, by the way, when he fucking ushered a yellow card. Joke's the sight, and Bemba's had a fucking phenomenal tournament. A lot of Congo players are, but he's a standout in their defence.
39:12He's part of the reason that they even made it through to knockouts. Fanzabi was better than him though. All tournaments. Definitely not. Definitely not. Fair enough. Frozen has not been watching football. Definitely not. I understand that Upa Makano and Kabasi, you know I'm Kabasi's biggest fan, but I've not put him in my top three because I expected him to be this guy. What neither of them? What? I got Upa Makano in four. That doesn't make any sense. You can't do that, mate. I understand that. Wait, you just put Hakimi first or right back when he's the best right back in the world. I didn't put Hakimi first.
39:37No, but who's your, okay. So who's in your right backs though? He's in the top three He's in the top three And he's also the top three Best rival I've been more impressed with Alright wait hold on More impressed with Lucas Lucas finally realised What we have to do I'm just trying to listen To the logic behind this Because he said he expects He expects Kovacian Up at Marcano To be top three Which they are But he's not had them I told these a lot about Kovacian two years ago Before he even played football Yeah but at what point It's not really relevant He's my mate He's friend of the show He's not getting Top three You've stabbed him in the back In three I've got Borges Yeah He's phenomenal In two I've got Lissandra Martinez I think he's been fantastic He has had a good tournament And I think the best centre back Why are you laughing?
40:12He's not even in the tournament anymore But that's fine Lysadre at two And then Van Hecker at one Van Hecker at one He's been fantastic He was fantastic Surely Surely Surely give some plaudits To the Spanish centre backs Come on You can't put him one I've got Poirot in my top three And I might have another Spanish player In there as well The centre backs have been great though I think Van Hecker's been I know they're out now But he was fantastic Now they've been out a little while now. Yeah, I know. How many goals did they concede? I don't know, but he's brilliant. Van Dijk was good as well. I know he was good.
40:43Arguably better. I think Van Hecht's been better. I think you've got to have Kovacian. I understand the Kovacian shot. Netherlands got knocked out a week ago. I know, Will. When did DR Congo get knocked out, mate? Yeah, but relative expectations. We didn't expect it, mate. You said he wanted to bring up DR Congo, mate. When he was fucking hungover. Do you see what I mean? You got it fucking out for me, mate. I also did. You've been, I expect better from you. You've been watching the games. He fucking rolled out of bed and put this together. That's not true. I was ill. I wanted to shout out some different players.
41:11I know how good Khabarci is. It's boring. Everyone's going to pick Khabarci. That's not why he did. Yeah, for a reason. So you're saying he is actually top three. Spanish centre-backs have been great. Just admit, he is actually top three. Borges deserves to be in there. Yeah, that's a great shout. LeSarder Martinet is fantastic. My third shout is Dan Byrne. Van Hek is... Did you watch Holland, mate? He was their best player. No, he wasn't. He's also... He wasn't. Gagpo was. How much has he gone before? 80 million? 70 million? So is that not a player that you expect to perform well? And he's underperformed because he got knocked out in the last...
41:42He just got 50 million for Spurs. Now. He's in the Premier League as well. He was still a highly rated defender. He's fucking just been signed for a billion pounds.
41:54I just wanted to shout out someone else, bro. That is crazy, man. I've been on fucking Khabar's train for two years. Yeah, but you've just sacked him off when it matters. He goes, Andy in the back. He goes, top people's head plays in every position. And, oh, fuck my boy, man. Get him out of here. He gets hate all year round playing the high line. One time when people are realising, actually, this guy's a great centre-back. He's like, no, I'm not having him. Mate, they've not considered a goal. I'm so fed up with you lot jumping on my Kabasi train. I need to get off the train. Or should I have picked Laporte instead?
42:23They've both been equally pretty good. Yeah, Laporte's been good as well. I just wanted to put Dan Burnham. I think putting two of the Spain centre-backs would have been a bit overkill. I think Upa Makano. Upa Makano would be fantastic. Upa Makano and Kovacic definitely top. Which is quite interesting because I feel like every time we talk about Upa Makano, every time we watch him for club football, we just think, oh wow, is this guy even good? He had a really good year for Bayern. But then now finally we see him on the international stage and we're like, yeah, he's fucking fast. You didn't put him in.
42:46He's in fourth. You're not allowed to do that. You can't do that. There's no four. Luka's got four. There's no four. Luka's got four. Yeah, he's picking three. You know that. I picked three. And I picked three. Yes. And omitted the guy that you've just picked up. No, it's Kavazis down in fifth. Right. Last he said, Uwe Bacardo. Oh, fuck it. Kavazis will be number one. Left backs, I've got O 'Reilly in third, Robinson in second, and Kukurela in first. Okay. I went Nico, and then I went Nuno Mendes and Kukurela. Numej? Yeah, he's just so, he had a lovely strength. Why Numej? What's he called? He hit the crossbar.
43:20Huh? Yeah, the crossbar in a bit, though. You put him in because he hit the crossbar. I struggle with it. He's just their best player though, isn't he really, in my opinion? Yeah, I think he's phenomenal. Him and Diogo Costa were their best players. Yeah, Diogo Costa had a great tournament. I did make this ahead of, I actually made my list before the Belgium game. Good time. And I didn't want to change it. Would you? Theo? O 'Reilly, Robinson, Cucurella. What the fuck? I've gone Nuno Mendes, Mizraoui, second, and Cucurella. Yeah, nice. I think Mizraoui's been excellent. He's alright, but he's been playing at left.
43:54He's been so solid. You'd be impressed by Robinson. I think he's been good, but I don't think he's really been top three, to be honest. And O 'Reilly missed the game, which I think he should have. A lot of these players have all missed the game. I think O 'Reilly's been class as well. I'm not going to say he should be fourth. I'm not doing a few. Yeah, yeah. That's my three. You know what we didn't touch on in the England review? What did you think about his elbow? Yeah, he got away with it, by the way. I didn't even realise. I didn't see it. By the way, I was getting pinched. Still elbowing him.
44:20Let's not draw any attention to it in case Trump gets involved. He doesn't go like that Guys There's a difference To doing that We're not going to talk about that No no no But I mean In terms of what the football law is Even if He obviously wasn't looking At the face of whoever was on him He was shrugging them off Yeah but if you do that to someone And accidentally catch them He wasn't like that though He was like that Yeah but if you No he didn't do that Guys stop doing this You keep doing that action But he didn't do that He went like that I've seen the clip He didn't do that He went like that Doing that It doesn't matter It's not that's shrugging someone off That's shrugging someone off That's attacking.
44:53Bro, I'm right here. Yeah, but if you catch someone with the end of your elbow... By the way, the fucking dickhead deserved it. I wish he fucking battered him as well anyways. What was the context, though? Was it like a corner? I haven't seen it. I don't know. They were all going up, nipping him. There was a break in play. And then, well, I think the Mexican players... It's hydration break, wasn't it? Yeah, yeah. Instead of going to get water, right, he just went like that. He's like in his ear and like picking him. Pulling out his shirt. Yeah, and then you kind of shrugs him off. He didn't do that.
45:19No, but he catches him with his elbow. I'm not saying he's fucking... I'm not saying he's people's elbowed him. I'm just saying he's caught him in the... It's on grabs, you're like that. Get off. You've seen Red's been given for that in football contests before. I haven't. I hate my sixes because I can think of anyone and the technically aren't even sixes. I will say that in the six, there's been... I've got three good sixes. No, I've got good sixes. I feel like the better players in the midfield have been the eights and the tens. Not many nations have played with sixes. No, I struggle a little bit.
45:50I struggle massively. Tens are unanimous. Tens are unanimous. All I'm going to say, guys, is... All I'm going to say is Laomi. Laomi G. All right. Yeah, I mean... It's in you. Oh, my God. You're not watching any of the football matches then, are you, mate? He's been chucking. We've just done a whole piece of how... Portugal have been absolutely shit, lad. You just put him in because he's a big name. Yeah, honestly, I'm not going to lie. I was looking at six. I only had my number one in there. You can't justify... I was like, who the fuck? I was like, I don't think... Well, they all fit into my eights and tens.
46:21The names are what? You should pick the sixes that have been the best in the tournament then. Yeah, I think that's three. It would have been better had you picked like an eight and just put him in the game. I look forward to you guys educating me. Jesus Christ, Lou. I actually disagree with you saying this person's been bad. I think Pedri's actually been pretty decent. I'll put Pedri's second. He's an eight. He's in the eight. He's a fucking eight. He's not even playing in the base. My eights were taken off. You should have put the other one. The other one's been a brilliant six for the tournament.
46:45My eights were taken off. My eights were taken off. My eights were taken off. Wait, who do you think? My first, I got Elliot Anderson. Roger, what? How have you not picked Roger but put Pedri in the six? You're not missing another name. Yeah, there's two other names in my opinion. I don't think Elliot Anderson has been the best six in the tournament. You've put Spain's number eight ahead of Spain's number six. By the way, by the way, been one of their best players in the tournament. He's been their best alongside. Like, come on, Lewis. I just said, allow me, man. No, you're welcome to the show, man.
47:18Right Theo You'll go You got Pedri in there Theo? No Don't even have him I don't even have him In my eight In three In three I think He's done a He's done a lot of the dirty work He's done a lot of the running I've got Anderson in three Okay yeah In two I've got Rodri Yeah And in one I've got too many Yeah I like that He's not played all the games But when he has He's been absolutely brilliant I have a different He's been world class Yeah but he's only played Two out of the I think he's played three games Has he played three out of the five? He's played He played night against Sweden, night against Norway, night against Senegal.
47:50And then Kono played the other two. I think Truman has been great as well, honestly. Absolutely. That's tough to... Yeah. When he's played, he's been great. I'll give you that. A lot of players have missed a game. Yeah. Yeah, I've gone with Anderson, Boadi and Rodri. Yeah, Boadi's been unbelievable. Nice. Those are my top three. I've gone... You agree with Anderson? Where's he going, Boadi, this summer? Great take, you can see. Except he doesn't, because he put him at three and you put him at one. Great take, you can see. I put him third. Great take. Where do you think Boadi's going to end up going?
48:15That's so interesting. If I were him, I wouldn't actually go to the Prem if I were him. Or to Italy. I just think he should grow more in Europe and then make that move if needs to be. He's very Spain-coded, isn't he? I think he's destined for Barca. City were linked to him, but they just signed Elliot Anderson. So if I'm him, I'm thinking I wouldn't go there. How much did he go for? Over 100 million. I think they won like 80 at least. 100 million. He's like 18, is he not? Yeah, about 100. You did the whole Kibarsi thing. I called Bawadi out last year to see how good he was. I said he should have gone to You were in deep there as well When did I ask?
48:54I saw his eyes change He's a phenomenal talent I saw his eyes change from happiness to killer mode He's a phenomenal talent My three sixes are Sanderberg, Xhaka and Rodri That's a good shout Not to be confused with the other Berg No, not Patrick Berg or whatever his name is Berg without an E Bald Berg So who do you have first? Rodri first, Xhaka second in San Diego third. Oh, Xhaka. I've never seen that one. Xhaka's been brilliant. Yeah, I think they're all fair shouts as well, to be honest. Are you a great steal? And he's actually a six. I can't believe he's put Spain's eight. To be fair, Pedri was a shout.
49:27You know Rodri plays in the six. Yeah. He's genuinely been to Spain's first. Also, that's glossed over Vitinha. Yeah. Yeah, that one's not a good reflection. Hang on, do you genuinely think Eli Anderson's been the best six in this entire tournament? No. No. All right. after everyone put in different names do you know what the thing is I was genuinely looking my brain was just farting this morning I was so ill like honestly I was looking for ages I'm like who the fuck is it I did it before the games yesterday yeah I did it yesterday yeah but you have to react to the football so yeah so when we so we watched Portugal get absolutely schooled by Spain in the midfield and you thought fuck it I'll put Petrinha in there I watched the Belgium game also sorry is it Jaunevis the 6th Guys, we live-streamed that game, and he still looked up and thought, Pedri's playing in the six.
50:15Was he watching the game? No, I said beforehand, I squeezed some eights into the sixes. Pedri can play a six. But he's not playing. He's not playing. He wears number eight for Spain if it makes it easy for you. For Barca, he can play a six. Easy. He doesn't even play as a six for Barca. Yeah, he can't. He plays a six against us. One game, maybe. That's because the young was injured. That is great. Eights, then? Okay. Eights, I've got... allow Emerson I've got Tillman in the 8 and then I've got Tielemans in the 8 and then I've got Bruno G and I know Brazil are out but I've been so impressed by Bruno G this one yeah I've got similar names you go Lucas I was undecided on my third honestly it was between Oulay from Cote d 'Ivoire and Rabiot from France but I think I'm gonna go Oulay Patrick Berg and Bruno G Patrick Berg they got Patrick Berg we love Patrick Berg now by the way brilliant player He's also terrifying.
51:11In what sense? Just he looks terrifying. He just looks. I've got to give him credit because he's been shot to pieces every game but still puts his effort in. Third, I've got Declan Rice, second Bruner G, and first, Uri Tielemans. I'd love to say Rice, but he's not been at his top levels to be top three. He looks tired, but he's still putting a shift in. He's putting a shift in, but he's been on effort alone on that last game, to be fair. Yeah, the first goal was all him against Mexico. He needs Oledar for this World Cup. Yeah, he was. So he's not getting one. He's played like 60-something games.
51:41I reckon the Arsenal players will get two weeks off. Someone said this on Twitter the other day, and I thought, actually, it's quite... I don't know whether or not it's true, but there's a correlation between it. Kane and Jude have both played way less minutes this season than every other player on the pitch because they're not from the Premier League. Probably. And they look just... There's probably a correlation between that. If we're not sitting on the pod, though, I'm sure he's used to saying, like, Rice not at his best. Yeah, still can be top three. I'd love to put Rice in but personally I think you'll see a lot he's been working hard but like he hasn't been the top three best eights a lot of the England Premier League boys will probably come back two weeks into the season I reckon yeah they look shot also it's just mental isn't it like they're going to finish the World Cup say we get to the final and win it they have two weeks until the season starts it's mental but Rice has played like 60 something games he's been overworked 100 % I could have put him to be fair I'll keep him right you might have to clear there anyways for us I've got Telemans Mazambi and Bruno G.
52:40Man Zambi in the eight. He's a 10. Yeah, but my 10s are two, though. It's like, he can play like, look, we always have these arguments. This is not what we're doing, though. We always have these arguments. He can play in the eight easy. Yeah, but that's not how, that's not how his dictate. You can't just say, we've done this all the time. Yes, we have. Yeah, because that's on a more general basis of who you think are the best in the world. You've just put Declan Rice in, mate. Yeah, because he's an eight. Yeah, but he's not top three best. So Man Zambi is still a very good shot. In my opinion, I think he's in for a fair shot of being in the top three eights.
53:10You were saying the other day on the pod how he's not at his best. You were saying yourself on the pod how he wasn't at his best. But right is an eight though, Lewis. That's what he's saying. You've contradicted yourself in the space of four days. You put another ten in. It's like putting Messi in the eight. Manzami can play there. Look, it's such an apodantic argument. It's fine. Messi can probably play in the eight. He is the youngest player to reach five goals or assists in World Cup history. But Lewis, I think we all have him. But the tens have taken up so much that I put him in the eight because he deserves the shout.
53:33Well, it has in my list. You're going to have to fucking accept the ownage. All right, look at your tens. I've gone with Manzambi. Three goals, two assists. What player? I think he's been the best young player in the tournament. Second, honestly, the top two. Oh, by the way, you've got a player missing here then. I don't think I do. No, he doesn't. You just changed the top two order though. Yeah, I got Alise second, Bellingham first. Oh, you put Alise? No, Messi? No, Messi I'm putting on the right. Oh, okay. Well, we agree to disagree. Wait, wait, wait. Is this not the same as what you just shouted at me for?
54:05No, because Messi played on the right. He's been a bit more central than that. But so is Elisse. Elisse, when you watch France, Elisse occupies centrally. Dembele always plays. They alternate a lot, but Elisse primarily occupies centrally. It kind of feels like I got one shot at one thing, and then you're getting away with it very quickly. For me, when I'm watching France, Elisse is in the ten. Dembele is on the right. That's what I'm saying. I'm absolutely fine with Messi. But Messi is being more central. I'm absolutely fine with your knowledge. I've got Messi in a 10. So you want me to use Messi as a 10?
54:34Well, that's where he's been playing. No, but Messi just moves around. I agree with you. Messi's just what he's shouted at me about. So I'm pointing out the... Yeah, no, no, no. I respect that. But for me, when watching Argentina, apart from today, Messi primarily occupies the rights though. I think you can put them right. You agree, Will? Yeah. You fucking arse lick, man. Well, I've got Messi in the middle. I said that. It's just Twix or Twoon, isn't it? Wait, so you've got both in a 10? I've got Messi in a 10, yeah. I've got Messi in a 10. he's almost he's almost like a false nine sometimes you have him in the turn but I'm absolutely fine with you having him in the right I'm keeping him on the right you've got eight plays up you're next I've got third I've got Unai from Morocco second I've got Bellingham first I've got Messi no Elise I've got him on the right I said this this second ago I hate this game I've got Odegaard Bellingham Messi yeah Odegaard's been brilliant Odegaard's been class like I don't know where the fuck's this been for Arsenal.
55:31He's supposed to be going off to Fenerbahce now. No, that was a false rumour, bro. Yeah, Lodegaard's been class. Our captain's not leaving us, don't worry. I've got Bellingham Elise Messi. Nice. Okay. Bellingham could be first, you know. Yeah, it was an interesting debate, but I mean, Messi's probably player of the tournament, so you can't, if he's going to, whichever category or position you put him in, he should have Before the tournament, Luca, what was your stance on Jude Bellingham and Rodgers' debate? I said before the tournament he's England's most important player. Oh, so you have ball knowledge.
55:59Thank you. For me, did you agree? I did. I wholeheartedly agree. By the way, I wholeheartedly agreed that Jude should be one of the first names on our team sheet. Period. The amount of hate I got before the tournament was ridiculous. You see Jude, yeah. For me, people that don't rate him, they don't understand much. They don't understand football, do they? They don't. Because despite the fact that Bellingham didn't have his best season, A, he was injured. And when he played, he was still good. But for me, the difference between a good player and the top level players, like Bellingham is, is turning up on the main stage.
56:28Yeah, the clutch moments. Bellingham is a player that wants the ball at his feet because it doesn't weigh. He knows, he knows I'm good at football. Yeah. I'm going to win the game for my team. And anyone even questioning that before the tournament, you could say like, they just don't know anything really about football. How many England players as well? I would say it's a big gripe on English football that we haven't delivered. We've delivered a lot of great players, but people who don't deliver in the big moments internationally and somebody's doing it now. England have always had great players who don't deliver internationally and he does it.
56:57I think it's 70 % of his goals have come in a major tournament for England. No surprise. But even for Real Madrid, you see when they won the Champions League, he was turning up in big, big games. Because for him, for Bellingham, the pressure doesn't weigh. But that's what top-level players do. They thrive on it, yeah. Yeah, absolutely. So he was probably loving it hearing all the English people and the media say, ah, he shouldn't start. He was like, yeah, look, watch me now. And I think he's been one of the best players in the tournament. I agree. What's next? Right wing, is it you now, Reeve?
57:23You're starting. Yeah, it's gone round. I've got third Brahim Diaz second Dembele and then first Elyse I have the exact same as Reef I've got the yeah I've got the two on the right because they drift and they change so you didn't have Messi you have Elyse I have Elyse right Messi in the ten but you could Dembele's also been out on the right yeah I've got the same three they start with Elyse in the middle Dembele on the right yeah I know I mean if you look on a live score line up they will be there but I mean like the whole front four just interchanges it's hard to say and I wanted to get them both in it's just fluid formation in three I've got I know it's similar to sort of France they switch rings Doku and Trossard but I've got Trossard been very impressed by him this tournament I know he's been on the left and on the right but they do they do change over mid game as well I've got Brim Diers at two and I've got Dembele at one did you have Elisa at all he's got him in the ten he's in my tens for me the third place was tough it was between Brahim Diaz and Ismail Assar I think Assar's been good I think Assar for Senegal was so good four goals one assist they bottled it against Belgium but he was incredible I'll probably go Brahim though that was a great game by the way yeah incredible game I've gone Brahim third then Dembele second and I put Messi first yeah but yeah if we had to remove arguments for argument's sake yeah if we had to remove Messi on the right then I'd put him in the ten do you think he's been more of you know we're talking about this 10 right wing do you think he's more of being almost like a second striker he is when you look at the lineups he's actually a second striker but he just occupies that space and then drifts in doesn't he he just goes he goes wherever he wants yeah he can't you just let him do what he wants he just walks he doesn't really spread there's actually not a free roam role on the list no but he would be at the top of that one as well him and Aliso would probably claim that 100 % left wingers yeah I've got Trussard on the left he was really good yesterday yeah Trussard is a good shot really good yesterday Vinny Jr.
59:21and then Quinonez very similar I've got Quinonez Barcola and then Vinny J I think Barcola's a good shot as well I've gone with Gakpo in the last Quinonez second and Vinny first nice very similar to you Lou Trossard third Quinonez second Vinny Jr. first yeah I think Quinonez and Vinny are pretty locked in and the third one is like there's a few options there Gakpo and Trossard have been excellent but I think Vinny this year I don't know what you guys think but going into the tournament for me he was one of the players with the biggest pressure he did he had a lot of stick this season yeah well but also because when it comes to the national team Vinny's rarely turned up like in the last few years he's underperformed massively at Copa America he's supposed to be the superstar exactly he's supposed to take over the mantle from Neymar who's not been at the races but him and Ancelotti are just you know those players that just work so well under manager yeah Vinny and Ancelotti is a different player different crazies he carried them through that and I was so surprised he didn't take the penalty honestly against instead of Bruno I said this I said this I can't believe Bruno G's been given that that's what you said based off stats and who was on the pitch that Vinny Jr.
1:00:29wasn't even in the top five takeers Bruno G's next don't get me wrong let me just say it let me just say it Bruno G's not good at pens I would never put him on that like but also do you not want your best player taking the penalty when pressure matters even Cougar would have been ahead of Bruno G yeah I think so as well I was surprised with that I thought maybe Vinny didn't want it but then Ancelotti after said oh it was a decision that would criticize he's messing up being the best penalty taker, but he'll take them. Yeah, he's got the ball to take it. I respect that. I feel like he demands that though.
1:00:57If he misses, surely your best player, Neymar stepped up and did it. Do you know what I mean? Surely you expected Vinny. Vinny should have just taken the ball off him and said, no, I'm taking it. Because I feel like in the moment, yes, the coach can say one thing, but on the pitch, if Vinny's the, he's not like the captain, but he's led them to that point. He should have just taken the ball and said, no, I'm taking it. And Kuno won it, right? There's almost an indication that if you won it, But then there's that whole thing of who's the club penalty taker. Why should someone come in and take ahead of them?
1:01:26Kuni's been the penalty taker. Bruno G is the Brazil penalty taker. But he's not. Neymar is designated. But Neymar's not. I know, but Vinny, for me, Vinny's not brilliant at pens, but he scored one in the semi-final against Bayern. They should have played Igor Thiago, mate. He would have scored. Strikers. Yeah, pretty easy. What order, though? Yeah, the order thing is. He's kicking off. It's me? Yeah, go on. I've gone at Kane, Mbappe, Haaland Yeah, I actually agree with that order Really? Yeah Not Mbappe first In this World Cup I would have gone in But after that game against Brazil That second goal from Haaland The way he just like nonchalance To generate that level of power I think look You could put Mbappe or Haaland one or two Yeah There's no I agree Do whatever you want I think it's Kane in three And then it's Mbappe, Haaland I don't have that order I've got Haaland, Kane, Mbappe You've got Haaland third Yeah, you agree.
1:02:20I had to squeal with all these I'm putting Mbappe third boys, Kane second and Harlan first because I'm a fucking England fan That was my logic ahead of England fan you put him first So where's Kane? I'm an England fan so I'm putting Harlan above Kane Because really I couldn't put Kane first because Harlan single-handedly gonna drag Norway Like they could easily drag him to the final like the absolute fucking Hey, that's a disrespect on the rest of the Norway Yeah, they've played well I know, but the two goals that he got me He's not dragging them Lewis is right Is Mbappe dragging France? Leading them, I mean Are we not watching like potentially the best ever World Cup footballer in history right now?
1:03:02Yeah, but Reeve, it's based on performances It's performances You don't think Mbappe's been equal or better? They're all interchangeable I think it's Harland Mbappe in the K3 I think it's so close but I'll tell you where I'm at with it, right? Harland, this is his first ever World Cup He's playing for Norway with all due respect they're not a nation like France with the abundance of talent and the amount of plays feeding him as well if Mbappe is not firing which he always is and credit to him there's Alise there's Dembele there's Dwey there's Barclay there's so many players providing him as well Haaland he's got good players behind him but a lot of these chances are from his movement and his intuition and he is dragging them he's got the same amount of goals as Mbappe he's just beaten Brazil pretty much single-handedly I agree with Lewis he's been the main man in it and this was his first ever World Cup Mbappe's been in two and we knew Mbappe who was going to carry it on.
1:03:46So for me, I don't think it's outrageous to say Mbappe's number one, but based on the performances, bro, I think it's always overlooked. Like the fact that, like the fact alone that he has the same goals in a worse team should then signify that he's having a better tournament. Best games as well. Yeah, yeah. He missed the game against France. Yeah. I mean, like he's been an absolute animal. Honestly, you could do them any three orders. Yeah, he is, but he's a total person preference. Has Haaland scored a pen? Not a pen still. No, he hasn't scored a pen. I think Mbappe scored one or two. Yeah, it was a pen against Paraguay was there not to take anything away it's still a goal of course I'll take some away I don't like I've seen the Bruno G it's not quite it's not quite cool though like you know how before the time every time we do this like the top three strikers are Kane and Mbappe Haaland yeah of course they are and it's them three all the time but they've monopolised that position totally the fact that they're turning up on the big show again it's exciting to watch it's a showdown isn't it it's like a full on do you want a cool stat about Trossard by the way yeah sure most chances created this World Cup by Trossard really he's been really good Do you know who's number two?
1:04:46Messi? Salah. Oh, wow. Is it? Do you know who's number three? You're going to do the full list, aren't you? Messi. Okay. Four, Hakimi. Okay. I'll stop there. That's close. Declan Rice in six. Thanks for joining us, Luca. Before you go, who is winning the World Cup? France, unfortunately. I think France, yeah. Beating who in the final? I think England will go to the final. That's actually what you called before the tournament started. Is that what you predicted? That's what I predicted as well. Yeah. No, you said England win it. All right, even France would be England in the phone because I'm an England fan This is why I'm so desperate from Morocco to do it for us because I just can't see us ever be in France Because we can so good Even in a water I'd have all like any other fun but like our weaknesses defensively and they're so fucking brutally Stacked on that side of the image.
1:05:35It's actually not even there first ever foreign managers when they woke up Gay, he and Conce, no way. Head says France, horse is England. There you go. It's going to be England. On that note, guys, make sure you like and subscribe. Check out Luca, link in the description. Yeah, we've got a tenable, which I'm not looking forward to doing. No, I should be great at that sort of stuff. We've got a fucking genius amongst the... I'm always out in the first round. Thanks for that. I don't have to sit here. Yeah, yeah. Two geniuses. We'll see you next time. Bye-bye. Genie I.
