In short

The hosts (Kate and Jacqueline) riff on identity/wordplay (Kate+Jacqueline “cackling girls,” “Jackie” vs “Jacqueline”), then pivot through pop-culture and everyday life: dinosaurs as consumer imagery, fast-food nostalgia (McDonald’s/Subway), food textures and brands (Quince clothing; Faye yogurt; matcha; soy milk; vegan delivery), reading/napping rituals, luck-as-a-skill, stress relief supplements, and finally Instant Pot cooking and a viral casserole recipe.

Guests

No guests appear; it’s just the two hosts.

Key claims

“Luck is learnable” and “lucky people are decisive” (from a Substack list). Dinosaurs are “loved” as images/absence rather than the real thing. Soy milk is protein-rich and worth defending. Instant Pot recipes can be improvised by pressure-cooking rice/veg together.

Notable examples

dinosaur napkins at a wedding; Subway bread likened to “shoe leather”; a “no oats” notes packet fiasco; a thin-book 20-minute nap; a viral casserole with rice, butter beans, olives, tomatoes, spinach, artichokes, lemon, coconut milk, and water.

0:02Kate Berlant:Two best friends, both alike in dignity, nurturing phantoms and courting the muse. The hag divines when something must die. Yes, that was Poogh. But this is huge. The ego loves to seek, but never to find. It was Berlant and Novak the whole time. We've talked about Cacklin, right? I've brought this up. Maybe you're never as impressed as I think you should be that our names together, Kate, Jacqueline, if they were doing that thing, would be Cacklin. Wait, wait. As in like cackling all night? Laughing?

0:34Jacqueline Novak:Cackling. Cackling.

0:35Kate Berlant:Cackling.

0:36Jacqueline Novak:Oh, Kate plus Jacqueline?

0:37Kate Berlant:Yeah, like if they were doing like Bennifer with us. Right, right, right.

0:40Jacqueline Novak:Cackling. Hey, that works. Hey, there's something there. There's something there. A couple of cackling girls. Someone called you Jackie to me the other day, and I was like, when people call you Jackie, I'm like... They're afraid. Guys, just say Jacqueline. Don't worry about the cue. Well, it's funny when they say it to me. They're saying it to me to be like, I know her. like she's your friend and i'm like and it's like you're actually revealing yourself to be a wild

1:03Kate Berlant:outsider an outsider yeah exactly i'm dying to know who it was i'm dying by the way the amount of times people like go like how about or like what about or like so do you like to be called jacklyn or jackie it's like hmm perhaps it's the thing i introduced myself as that i like to be called yeah you're the one introducing another sound into the mix and you can't tell me who it But you could text it to me and then we could talk around it for fun. It was a very, it was like someone who you had met at my house in a party situation.

1:35Jacqueline Novak:And it was just like, oh, like Jackie or something. And I was like, it's so funny.

1:38Kate Berlant:There is occasionally, my cousins will call me that. And that sometimes gets into the discourse of friends of friends. But a lot of people just, they're uncomfortable with the question of whether the Q is pronounced Jacqueline, Jacqueline.

1:52Jacqueline Novak:My mom sometimes calls you Jacqueline because she has a really close friend named Jacqueline.

1:57Kate Berlant:Oh, yeah.

1:57Jacqueline Novak:Someone asked me today if it's Jacqueline. And then it's so – I actually feel – it's like I've traumatized her. It's actually really devastating. Like I've so many times corrected her. Jacqueline. Right. Like a bitch. So now she – it's really sad now actually I've traumatized her because she called Jacqueline. Oh, I mean Jacqueline. Right. Like it's so sad. I'm like, it's okay. It's like, God, I'm a kind. I know. Like Jesus.

2:17Kate Berlant:The cruelty to our mothers. Why? It's unbelievable. No, I'm like nonstop abuse. Meanwhile, I think we have a great relationship. Mother, are you listening? Of course. By the way, hysterical. She responds in like one word. She's kind of like me, cryptic texting. She'll respond in like one word to something on the episode. Oh, really? And I'm like, I don't remember what she's talking. You know what I mean? She's just like, you know, I'm like, Mother, we recorded that seven days ago.

2:44Jacqueline Novak:Yeah, yeah. But my mom got blessed. She does this thing, which is very sweet. She'll watch like a rerun of Jimmy Kimmel. and someone's on it. And she's like, well, you know who was on Jimmy Kimmel last night? I have to be like, that was an old appearance. That was syndication. She was not on Jimmy Kimmel last night. Yeah. Yeah. Or like an SNL. Like, God bless my mom. She really likes to stay on top of the culture. She'll send me, hey, look at this new bar that just opened in your neighborhood. She's like, subscribe. She's like, got it. By the way,

3:12Kate Berlant:my mother has watched Chris Rock's, you know, the live special. Oh, uh-huh. Many times. Amazing. Like, I came home and she's like, this part. And I was quite pleased with that. You know, she'll repeat bits. It's a good time. So sweet. I was proud of her.

3:27Jacqueline Novak:You know something that's too bad that's been kind of tragically ruined? Dinosaurs. Yeah, let's talk about them. Inherently interesting, fascinating part of history and kind of an unbelievable.

3:38Kate Berlant:I'm loving this, where this is going, because it's already stimulating ideas for me. Go, go, go.

3:42Jacqueline Novak:Well, because they've been destroyed. Let me guess, by children? By the ironic consumption of them. cartoon illustrations of dinosaurs i'm obsessed with reading um you stop there vogue weddings yeah i'm obsessed with reading um reading no like vogue weddings article stuff no here i am going like this is to what the person finds out and then it's like i'm being a cunt well but basically some somebody was talking about a husband who loved dinosaurs this was a 40 year old man and it's like he loves dinosaurs I was like well no he doesn't

4:18Kate Berlant:right he loves the image of a like he loves a two dimensional cartoon of a dinosaur sorry no I would argue he loves nothing right you love dinosaurs

4:27Jacqueline Novak:meaning the absence of

4:30Kate Berlant:dinosaurs not my husband like loves dinosaurs

4:34Jacqueline Novak:so we're gonna have dinosaurs on the napkins at the thing you suck that guy's dick like Like, God damn, it's hard out here for the girls sometimes. Because next thing you know. Next thing you know what? Next thing you know, you're having to look into the eyes. I mean, what is that? Oh, sure. I just wondered what the, you know.

4:56Kate Berlant:No, I'm not articulating it. But I'm curious. Now I want to know. What if he is a paleontologist? Could it be? Well, of course, it was not that. And by the way, a paleontologist would never demand a dinosaur on his napkin.

5:08Jacqueline Novak:No, no, no. This was not that. This was not that. Trust me.

5:11Kate Berlant:It is interesting the way that dinosaurs seem to captivate children. It's cool.

5:18Jacqueline Novak:Like, that's interesting, right? No, that's almost like a memory. It's almost like they're so recently, they're of the earth in this way where they're still connected. They're still open enough.

5:27Kate Berlant:Yeah. Unstuck in time. Enough to remember. And then, you know, and then no one gives a shit. I mean, discovery of those bones. Let's just take a second with that. Do we know? When did it happen? Don't know. Right?

5:41Jacqueline Novak:But listen to this. Hey, Siri. Who discovered the first dinosaur bone? Sorry, something's gone wrong. Please try again. You fucking useless bitch. You take everything except, and when I need you, you provide nothing. I was imagining the race, the paleontology race of, because probably people were discovering them around the same time, right? It's like drilling drills. And then the war of like, I was first. No, I was first. Yeah. Interesting.

6:12Kate Berlant:Human drama. Trying to get your name on a dinosaur.

6:21Kate Berlant:With summer in full swing, I feel that familiar urge to refresh my closet. But I'm trying not to waste money on pieces I'll only wear once or for just one season. That's where Quince comes in. Their clothes are timeless, feel luxurious, look elevated, and the quality is way beyond what you'd expect for the price. It's the kind of wardrobe upgrade that just clicks. Think 100 % European linen tops, starting at$30. Washable silk dresses and skirts, and soft cotton sweaters. Versatile, warm-weather pieces you'll reach for again and again. The best part? Everything with Quince is half the cost of similar brands.

7:04Kate Berlant:By working directly with top artisans and cutting out the middleman, Quince gives you luxury without the markup. And Quince only works with factories that use safe, ethical, and responsible manufacturing practices and premium fabrics and finishes. I've been ordering from Quince for a long time. And yeah, I think you should too.

7:23Jacqueline Novak:We were very excited when Quince became a sponsor. Jacqueline's been using quince for a long time, and she got me into it. The washable silk skirt I was wearing all over Europe this summer, and I just bought a light, gauzy throw for those non-so-chilly nights.

7:41Kate Berlant:For me, the washable silk is really where it's at, because if I can't wash it, it's going to get worn once, and that's it. Everything goes in the washer. That's all I'm saying. Finally, I can look like a freaking woman when I go out to dinner. The summer dream. There you are. The silks.

7:58Jacqueline Novak:You, Kate? I really enjoy the throw I got. It's like a parachute, which is much more expensive, gauzy, linen throw for my bed in a beautiful terracotta color.

8:10Kate Berlant:Maybe it's finally time for me to introduce some linen. Linen in the wardrobe. I'll be heading over to quince.com specifically to look at that. But for me, yeah, it's really been about the washable silks.

8:21Jacqueline Novak:Give your summer closet an upgrade with quince. Go to quince.com slash hags for free shipping on your order and 365 day returns. That's q-u-i-n-c-e dot com slash hags to get free shipping and 365 day returns. Quince.com slash hags.

8:44Jacqueline Novak:I'm wearing workout clothes. Let's see.

8:47Kate Berlant:I am too. How curious.

8:49Jacqueline Novak:They smell of like radioactive downy. Oh. Like horrific. Yeah, I don't use –

8:54Kate Berlant:Like cancer injection. Softener?

Read the full transcript

8:57Jacqueline Novak:Yeah.

8:57Kate Berlant:Yeah, sweetie. You're going to want to get off that. You know why?

9:00Jacqueline Novak:Well, it's like an old tub.

9:02Kate Berlant:I wrote copy on this once. This is why I know.

9:04Jacqueline Novak:I mean, hold on.

9:05Kate Berlant:No, but – Because it's pure poison?

9:07Jacqueline Novak:Remember when Pooh got a cease and desist? Never forget. From what? McDonald's? We got two cease and desists from McDonald's. It was unbelievable. I kind of want to find the email. Yeah. Because I referenced a video – And by the way, here they come. I referenced an email. People are still eating it. Relax.

9:22Kate Berlant:Yeah, and everyone's fine. Yeah. Most people are, you know, I would probably eat it. Well, it's hard to say. I have changed, but I would eat it.

9:33Jacqueline Novak:McDonald's never was there. I did Taco Bell. I did Jack in the Box. I'm not kidding. I don't think I've ever had a McDonald's burger.

9:39Kate Berlant:I think it's like Los Angeles kind of doesn't get into you people in the same way. I just think, you know, I think your upbringing, there's still kind of an East Coast road trip McDonald's thing that, you know, holds. But I was in my early 20s being like, fuck it, I'm going to McDonald's. There were some great times going and being like, what would I get? I mean, what would I get there that was the fucking best? McChicken. Unreal. I was never that into the Big Mac. I preferred the Whopper at Burger King. I'm grilled. Big Essence.

10:14Jacqueline Novak:Yeah. Wow. I've never had that, I don't think.

10:18Kate Berlant:you're like I can't engage for that like I'm just joking okay but like um um um no right I've ever my my friend I've probably told this on Poog but like my friend being like like similarly I mean she was raised in New York but like like yeah of course like I've never eaten that or something right and like her father was like her father was like oh yeah like a a Mac Biggie or something like

10:40Jacqueline Novak:he didn't even know the word Big Mac yeah yeah yeah yeah that being said I think I've referenced My dad, like all through my childhood and young adulthood, and I guess adulthood, had Subway like three times a week.

10:53Kate Berlant:Oh, yeah. We've talked about it. Well, my dad had it every day for like several years because he works from home and then he would want to like get out of the office. So off he'd go to Subway. And then, like, it was very special. And I still just think, yeah, I mean, and I've had a lot of Subway in my life. And guess what?

11:14Jacqueline Novak:It's delicious. this. Me too, sweetheart. When they came out with it, the Subway bread is -

11:20Kate Berlant:It's fresh baked every day in the store. It can't be a shoe. It can't be.

11:27Jacqueline Novak:It's like part shoe. They're like, but Stuart Weissman's shoe. It's like, same thing in Subway bread is what is in a shoe.

11:36Kate Berlant:That would be a good way to come back to it. They're like, the same leather Gucci uses.

11:40Jacqueline Novak:Yeah, exactly.

11:41Kate Berlant:That would be hysterical.

11:42Jacqueline Novak:Yeah, exactly. Italian leather. I still believe.

11:45Kate Berlant:I bet the bread's solid. I bet the bread's – I mean, if anything's questionable.

11:49Jacqueline Novak:Italian leather.

11:50Kate Berlant:You know, but like getting the works. I get the works. I mean, oh, God, I could go for it all right now.

11:58Jacqueline Novak:Oh, yeah. Do you remember my legal battle? Remember my back and forth with notes?

12:03Kate Berlant:Oh, yes. Yes, and they never came and then they came.

12:06Jacqueline Novak:N-apostrophe-O-A-T-S, the no oats, notes packets that I bought on a whim. Instagram, and then months passed, they never came. Then they came. And I've had a couple, but my partner was dying for breakfast yesterday. I was like, what the fuck is this? And I was like, oh, notes. I don't know. And then they made the notes. They were miserable. They were like, it's a thing when you're hungry, but you just make something because you're like, well, I have to eat. But then there's no joy. and they and it was kind of like a chocolate soup like it was very very runny what is it chia let me guess chia oat free oats it's like a seed it's like a hemp seed hemp a lot of hemp i have a i've

12:51Kate Berlant:talked about on the pod before about greek yogurt and oh my addiction to the texture and flavor of

12:56Jacqueline Novak:fahe oh right but it's not organic and i'm like i need to do the research to go because a lot of in my opinion, a lot of organic grass-fed, fancy yogurt is fucking disgusting to me. It tastes like I'm on all fours with an udder in my mouth, lapping it up. It's just something about it. And I know it's the higher quality. And so the Faye, so I need to look into it, go, I need third-party testing. It's not like I eat it every single day. And the texture, why is it so good? Is it because - I have to look into it.

13:29Kate Berlant:I mean, Because I don't know that I've had.

13:30Jacqueline Novak:Is that why? Right? Because it's bad? I don't know. It's certainly straying, right? Certainly. It's thick. I like it's thick. You put it in the bowl, you could turn the bowl upside down and it's still there.

13:40Kate Berlant:I know how thick it is. I used to eat like the full size like thing of it. Like just like, oh God. And then like those little ones that had the little cherry half, like you flip that over. That's a treat. That is tasty.

13:54Jacqueline Novak:That's high school. A little honey, a little honey pocket. I have to get serious about my at-home matcha situation because I'm getting so addicted to the kettle matcha. Right. Was that$12 a day? No, the cheapest one is$6. Maybe they have like$6.75,$7.75,$8.75 for the highest grade matcha.

14:15Kate Berlant:And then with 20 % tip.

14:16Jacqueline Novak:And I have had matcha at home.

14:19Kate Berlant:Yeah.

14:20Jacqueline Novak:Oh, yeah. $15. Yeah. But I'm having a love affair with soy milk in my coffee. Soy milk is good for you. And listen, unsweetened soy milk, we're talking about nine grams of protein in a cup.

14:34Kate Berlant:I mean, I like to just say these things boldly. You know, we're not doctors. We're not experts. In fact, we're barely alkaline. Okay. However.

14:41Jacqueline Novak:Non-GMO.

14:42Kate Berlant:However. Yeah. Yeah, like, you know, like the dairy industry, like they came for soy. And it's like actually. No, the war against soy. The war against soy. Everything everyone thinks it does. It's exhausting. I love it. out there.

14:57Jacqueline Novak:I love, well, I eat a lot. We eat a lot of tofu in our house. We eat a lot of tofu.

15:02Kate Berlant:Oh, I had some, some kind of, you know, textured chicken weirdness that came in a Dow palette vegan delivery the other night. Talk about moaning. It was, it was unreal. I mean, when the vegan stuff is good, you just want to get on your knees and scream I mean it's just like you can't even believe it you're like so everything in this bag is for me you're like everything's good to go and when they don't overly rely on cashew god damn it was like I got a macro bowl I was like I'm in Brooklyn Suen does not deliver here okay I'd pay through the nose for a Suen delivery

15:46Jacqueline Novak:so I can't believe I can't believe there's only one Suen location. And where is Suen West Coast? I guess I just got to make Suen at home.

15:56Kate Berlant:Well, yeah. But you don't get the feeling of the 70s anywhere but there. It's so specific.

16:03Jacqueline Novak:I know.

16:04Kate Berlant:The azuki bean. But this Dow Palate place had a macro plate. I ordered that. I saw carrot ginger. I mean, they're doing Suen. I mean, maybe not. And then they had all sorts of other things. They had a vegetable curry. I mean, the rice was as purple as you can dream, purples and browns, forbidden, et cetera. Wow. God, ordering that, watching some TV.

16:32Jacqueline Novak:Unbelievable. I had a transformative experience yesterday on the couch where, imagine this, late afternoon, summer, beautiful day in Los Angeles. I go, what if you read? Imagine that. What if you go on the couch right now and read? I read a thin book. This is the glory of a thin book. I read the book cover to cover. It was 50 pages. I read Simple Passion, the French Annie, whatever. Read it, put it on my chest, fell asleep with the bird song, actual bird song, and summer breeze through the window. Completely asleep for -

17:11Kate Berlant:The nap that comes from reading.

17:13Jacqueline Novak:20 minutes. I know now because of my aura ring. Oh, I'm so proud of you. By the way, it gets better. All right. I woke up, euphoria, looking around. This is my life. My phone in the other room. I'm free. I take out my journal. Journaled for not long, about four pages in there, five pages in there.

17:34Kate Berlant:That's not nothing.

17:35Jacqueline Novak:I remember writing the sentence, is this the best day of my life? Because of the fact that I read and fell asleep. Like taking the nap, I just couldn't believe it.

17:44Kate Berlant:I've been staying in a lot of other people's homes, Airbnbs, whatever. And so I've got this very specific pleasure of letting the books appear in your life where you pluck something off the shelf. You know what I mean?

17:54Jacqueline Novak:You go, what's that? Yeah, yeah.

17:56Kate Berlant:You didn't purchase it. You didn't choose it. It's there in the home. You're pulling from a library. It's a great feeling. It's a very different feeling. It's like just – I don't know. And then like I'm sort of into leaving the book. I mean, obviously, I don't take it from the home, but if it's someone I know, I'm not like, can I borrow this? I'm not sure if this is true. Maybe I'm just thinking of the limitation of the Airbnb where you can't take it. But there's something about knowing that you have to leave the book there. It's almost like, well, shall I return here one day?

18:29Jacqueline Novak:Yeah, yeah.

18:30Kate Berlant:I'll continue. A book attached to a home. Beautiful. Interesting.

18:35Jacqueline Novak:There's still a book that I loaned to someone. This is by almost, I want to say, 15 years ago. A friend can't borrow it. And I literally said no because it's kind of a special book, hardcover, kind of rare art book. I go, she makes us stink. Oh, come on. Never saw it again.

18:51Kate Berlant:Did you ever think to ask for it back? I'm not saying that with sarcasm.

18:55Jacqueline Novak:15. I think I brought. Oh, God. That's a really good question. I'm not sure. I'm like, what am I going to do? Ask now?

19:00Kate Berlant:Sure.

19:01Jacqueline Novak:Cancel dinner. I think it's funny. You know what I mean? The last time I was going to see her at dinner. I'm going out of time now. I can't get dinner. And then I text, hey, I'm back in town. Can I get that book from 15 years ago? Yes. Why not? Yeah, you're right.

19:11Kate Berlant:Are you afraid you're going to be roped into a dinner? You're going to be roped into plans or a conversation? No. In fact, I actually would like to see her. Because I have an idea. What? Self-addressed envelope sent to her home. Okay. That's funny. She gets that in the mail. Little card. Insert book here. Prepaid envelope. That's what I'm looking for. Now I know what you're thinking. I don't want to pay. But it's a way. It's hostile for you to pay. and that's what you're looking to do. You're looking for hostility.

19:38Jacqueline Novak:Right, right, right.

19:38Kate Berlant:That's good, right? But it's also convenience. You know, it's a cruelty. Somehow I've ended up with my entire collection of makeup brushes in my bag and no makeup. I've been carrying them around.

19:48Jacqueline Novak:Wow.

19:49Kate Berlant:The full eye.

19:50Jacqueline Novak:Ilya, that's the Ilya 3-in-1. Brush.

19:52Kate Berlant:Yeah, dreamer.

19:53Jacqueline Novak:My mom the other day texted me. My mom, it's really sweet. Every now and then will text me, thank you for Ilya. That's cool. Because she loves the Ilya skin serum, which was my go-to every day.

20:01Kate Berlant:Of course. For years. The one that you thought had a traditional cosmetic smell and me and your friend thought, smelled like something horse related.

20:09Jacqueline Novak:Yeah. Some people, I guess, think that there's a smell. I do not. I feel like I have a lot to say, but there's something,

20:16Kate Berlant:this location right now sitting in this room is like, my brain's not active. Let me just poke around because where does my brain actually live? It lives on my computer. Let's see what I got. Because when I'm alone with my computer, my brain is flying. Do you understand? It's a whole life. I told you I got a new browser. No, what does that mean? You heard me. What you got? You know, like Chrome, Safari, et cetera.

20:40Jacqueline Novak:Is it like no tracking or whatever? It's a security thing? I think it was a hag.

20:44Kate Berlant:Or maybe it was a sub-sex subscriber. Oops. They are. They take security very seriously.

20:50Jacqueline Novak:Doesn't sound good enough.

20:51Kate Berlant:I know. But I mean, it might be their whole thing. It just wasn't what I was there for. But someone recommended it. and the new lease on life i feel having just a slightly different visual setup is wild yeah when those little things change the neuroplasticity goes through the roof arc browser i'm pretty pretty pumped about that let's see what else i got going so this 30 day miracle thing is happening right now with um mature it's like a ritual program you can it's like intention thought etc. I was going to give a list of 13 laws of good luck and provide one of them.

21:31Jacqueline Novak:Okay, great. So like, for example, in this article called the 13 laws of good luck, people should read

21:38Kate Berlant:it. Matorowitz's sub stack, whatever. He goes into it deeply. But here's the list. I'm going to give you one, see if it does anything for you. All right, you ready? Luck is learnable.

21:47Jacqueline Novak:Okay.

21:48Kate Berlant:13 laws?

21:49Jacqueline Novak:Who's asking?

21:50Kate Berlant:Yeah. No, I thought you were going to say because like, it's an unlucky number or something. Luck is learnable. Give me more of them.

21:57Jacqueline Novak:Give me more of the rules.

21:58Kate Berlant:Lucky people are decisive.

22:00Jacqueline Novak:Mm-hmm.

22:01Kate Berlant:Do you think so? Totally. It's interesting. I mean, I panicked when I saw that.

22:07Jacqueline Novak:Yeah, I think definitely.

22:09Kate Berlant:Because fear is indecision?

22:11Jacqueline Novak:Mm-hmm. Give me more. Give me more.

22:13Kate Berlant:Give me them all. Luck is learnable. Good chemistry is lucky. To be lucky, you must be noticed. Prepared minds win. Sobriety is lucky. persistence beats odds. This does not apply to gambling. Failure can be lucky. No is not always final. Enthusiasm and pessimism form a fortuitous combination. That's interesting. Humiliating people brings bad luck. Recognizing others improves luck. You must help, quote, fate find you. lucky people are decisive. So he goes into depth on these. I like those. There was one that I was like, oh no. I don't think it was lucky people are decisive. I was like, yeah. Do you consider yourself lucky?

23:05Kate Berlant:Absolutely. I don't mean like blessed. Scary to say. Do you think you're like, I don't know, walking around going, oh yeah. Because don't people, isn't that one of those things like Oh, no, it's not. It's I never win anything. That's what people like to say. You know what I'm talking about? I never win anything. Oh, yeah. They win the teddy bear, the thing. Raffle. They win a raffle. This never happens. And it's like that's because 99 out of 100 people don't win the raffle. Right. It's like.

23:33Jacqueline Novak:It's built that way. Huh.

25:25Jacqueline Novak:You finally got an Instant Pot. You haven't cooked in it yet, right? Well, I'm thinking about cooking in it right now, and I actually was thinking, I got the Instant Pot. You're trying to tell me you throw rice in there that's not cooked, right? It's like the most basic level Instant Pot shit. Okay. so if I have I have I got thinking about you I got frozen butternut squash frozen broccoli yes so you're saying that I have to like figure this out but you're saying I can just throw it in are you using broth yeah or bouillon paste water and water oh yeah I've got the vegan bouillon

25:54Kate Berlant:yep and then I you know depending on what you're going for I mean you can throw canned tomatoes in there potatoes i mean you know the easiest way is to just go wild play play if you have an

26:10Jacqueline Novak:expectation but but but jacqueline where do i go i just google like i don't even know where to start

26:15Kate Berlant:i don't even know how to start well i will tell you most non-issue of all time yeah just google it chris likes to separately actually make the rice okay see this is the kind of stuff that i need to know but i don't have that in me i i like to just go for it i'm looking i don't have that in me tonight throw it in there so i just throw it in i throw whatever in there if it says that cooking on high pressure natural release you know that's like the standard is for six minutes or something we'll we'll cook your rice then i say throw everything else in there you know do it for six minutes the rice will get cooked and so will everything else like if the worry is the rice will fall apart or something and then i say if there's extra liquid then it's a soup with rice in it i mean i might be which i love i might be a lunatic but actually there's some there's some stew waiting for me right now i'm looking it was quietly put in really see i love stew i love a summer stew by the way i had some textured soy protein the her day.

27:18It was unbelievable.

27:20Kate Berlant:Okay. It was so good. I'm going, are you selling it at the supermarkets? It was from a vegan delivery.

27:29Jacqueline Novak:Oh, you know what's quickly, has this ever happened to you? Oh, see, it just happened. I found it. I was walking. My friend that I'm walking with stopped. This couple comes by. Hi. Oh my God. How are you? I'm looking at someone going, how do I know her? God, she's familiar. How do I know her? She came to me in a deep Instagram by the way I've been very off Instagram the last few weeks and it's changed my life etc yeah barely fucking been on there days without but I went on for a little plunge and I Instagram showed me her and I went deep I'm deep in her wedding photos I'm going to her husband I'm looking at him I'm going deep you mean that's why you knew her yeah but you don't know her kind of because I had devoured no I don't know her at all I had devoured every fucking inch of her wedding.

28:11Jacqueline Novak:And had you devoured it not knowing who this person was? From a place of cruelty. Not cruelty, but yes. No, I didn't know her. How do I know you? You're that stranger. You're that random

28:26Jacqueline Novak:person that I have completely I know everything about your wedding. I can see your chuppah in my head. I'm like, oh yeah, the modern chuppah. Like I saw your father give you away at the altar. Truly someone you'd have no

28:39Kate Berlant:connection to i literally i saw her father give away the altar like you don't know a friend you don't have even a shared friend well i guess this one you discovered but you didn't know we have

28:48Jacqueline Novak:this mutual friend and i go oh they went to college together fascinating but they're not like currently close it was just like hi good to see oh my god it was unbelievable okay i am trying to find a rice a certain recipe to do oh here it is oh my god it happened i think i could do this in the instapot i'm gonna tell you really quickly because this person is doing this in a casserole pan right like you're seeing that right that looks like instapot culture listen to this one cup rice one cup butter beans some garlic olives tomatoes spinach artichoke hearts lemon coconut milk water yes so couldn't i just throw that in the instapot yes and oh my god jacqueline

29:32Kate Berlant:are you serious if you want to be a little fancy and you probably do it right now but you could Turn on the Instant Pot first to saute mode. Okay, cap off. I mean, lid off. You throw the garlic in there. You let it saute a little bit. No. Okay? Like, however you want. And then, you know, if you're looking to release, you know, in the aromatics and the whatever, and then throw the stuff in, close it up, and pressure cook. That's just sort of a little extra in the water and everything.

30:01Jacqueline Novak:Then throw the veggies and the rice in. This is unbelievable. because here I am going, oh, should I just do a casserole in the oven? Just mirror her exactly. No, I have the Instant Pot.

30:10Kate Berlant:You could also, I mean, you know, there's nothing but recipes specifically for the Instant Pot. So you could write, I mean, write what you dream of plus the word Instant Pot recipe and it will come up. And don't be afraid to throw something in there at the end like a potato or a squash resting on top.

30:28Jacqueline Novak:Yeah, yeah, totally, totally. Wow. I'll just say this quickly. I, uh... What is it? Yeah, here it is. Okay, interesting. Wow, okay. What'd you put in, though? Well, just what you said. Easily prepared rice, da-da-da. Oh. Hang on. I said, Instapot recipe rice veggies. So broad. Saute the onion, garlic, carrot, add the rice and broth. Pressure cook for three minutes and then stir in the peas and corn.

30:53Kate Berlant:Oh, right. Some people stir in... Well, it depends. I mean, you can't go wrong. But I'm saying, like, Kate, put in something you don't even think you could make in the Instant Pot. or put in like, you know, you know, like rice and veggies is like almost so broad that I feel like can Google even help you? I mean, I know it can, but like be like, you know, can't think of a single thing. Well, I told you about that, like that, like shepherd's pie. It's kind of like, like instant pot based with you layer the potatoes on the bottom and then it's like getting so hungry because it's ready and it's downstairs.

31:29Jacqueline Novak:I think I got to go. I got to eat mine by the way i'm looking at her comments because i feel like someone in here is gonna have an instapot version don't you think so in the comments of this woman's casserole oh i mean i

31:41Kate Berlant:would like what i would do what what was most appealing to you about her recipe like just list some of those ingredients like with google and instapot like artichoke yeah well because i because i'm going okay i hear you i hear you yeah artichoke butter beans like but if you prepare it for health okay if you prepare it like greens in there I mean you just can't fucking go wrong in there that's all it is okay well I love ya bye
