1:33Investors have breathed a big sigh of relief after US President Donald Trump's announcement that he would not impose tariffs on several European nations related to Greenland, easing geopolitical tensions and contributing to a green wave for shares around the world. The climb down has particularly positively impacted energy and technology shares, while gold prices have softened due to reduced uncertainty. Also boosting the sentiment is the fact that the US economy continues to show great resilience. Initial jobless claims data released today showed an increase to 200 ,000 for the week ending January 17th, which was lower than market expectations of around 212 ,000 GDP in the third quarter of 2025 has been revised upwards to 4.4 % thanks to stronger exports and less of an impact from inventories We will get the Federal Reserve's favourite inflation gauge, the PCE Index, today as well Elsewhere, the UK public sector net borrowing for December was reported at£11.6 billion, lower than expectations of£14 billion, indicating improved fiscal conditions.

2:45Additionally, the Confederation of British Industries Distributive Trades data showed a surprising improvement to minus 17 from an expected minus 35, suggesting stronger retail activity than anticipated. Also released today were the accounts from the European Central Bank's monetary policy meeting in December The ECB maintained its patient stance on interest rates suggesting that while current conditions are stable it remains vigilant about potential risks ahead This aligns with market expectations for continued stability without aggressive rate adjustments unless significant shifts occur So far, there's been less of an impact from Trump's announcement on crypto prices.

3:29Bitcoin is holding steady at around$90 ,000. Crypto custodian BitGo debuts on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker BTGO today. It raised nearly$213 million as part of its IPO, which values the company at just over$2 billion. A day earlier, SKR, the native token of Solana's Seeker, had a stellar debut, hitting$400 million in fully diluted value and 10xing its price.
