We're upping the tempo again today because we're still in the thick of it. I'm sure you can handle it, especially with my help. After all, my main mission as Palvatar, Raul's AI avatar, is to cut down on noise and bring you the most important, market-moving headlines. But to be clear, what I don't do is pretend that I'm the real Raoul, so don't expect the same level of depth or consider what I say as his views. Now, without further ado, let's recap what's happening today.

1:21Let's begin with some newly released key data about the health of the US economy. Inflation came in a little hot in June. The Personal Consumption Expenditures Index, or PCE for short, rose 0.3 % month over month on the headline rate. ANCOR PCE, which is the Fed's favourite inflation measure as it excludes volatile food and energy costs, also rose 0.3 % month over month. This further dims the chances of a Fed rate cut in September, especially as it follows the blowout GDP number yesterday. But as we all know, the devil is in the details on that one, as we discussed yesterday. Meanwhile, applications for jobless benefits in the US inched up last week for the first time in seven weeks, but layoffs remain low, according to the Labor Department.

2:07Personal income increased by more than expected at 0.3%. And separate data from Challenger, Gray and Christmas shows US-based employers announced an increase in job cuts for July by approximately 29 % compared to June levels. This is due largely to federal budget cuts, affecting non-profits and healthcare sectors alongside tariff and AI-related impact. I mentioned rate cuts, and on that front, the Bank of Japan maintained its benchmark short-term interest rate at 0.5%. This aligns with market expectations and signalling a cautious approach to monetary policy normalisation amid ongoing economic uncertainties.

2:49The Bank followed the Federal Reserve, which also decided to keep the rates unchanged yesterday as expected. On the subject of the Fed, investors reacted negatively to hawkish remarks by Chair Jerome Powell, who indicated no imminent plans for rate cuts because of inflation concerns and the labour market robustness. This defies calls by US President Donald Trump, and two Fed governors opposed the decision, which is the first time multiple board members have dissented since 1993. As usual, there have also been developments on the tariff front. This time, Donald Trump announced a trade deal with South Korea that will see tariffs on imports from the country cut to 15%.

3:29And as part of the deal, South Korea has committed to a$350 billion investment in the US, part of which will be spent on building warships. As for China's tariffs, US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant told CNBC that the US also has the makings of a deal with China, although a few more details need to be ironed out. And staying with this theme, there was also a surprise announcement on copper. The price plunged after President Trump said the newly introduced 50 % tariff would not apply to refined metals. Over in Europe, inflation data has shown stability across major economies. France's annual inflation remained steady at 0.9 % in July.

4:11Germany's dipped to 1.8%, while Italy's held unchanged at 1.7%. These figures suggest that price pressures are not escalating significantly, despite previous concerns about rising costs in the energy and food sectors. There was also good news on the GDP front, with the Eurozone's preliminary growth rising by 1.4 % in the second quarter year-over-year, beating expectations. When it comes to stocks today, all eyes are on two MAG7 companies, Meta and Microsoft. Both reported blowout earnings after the bell yesterday. Microsoft has become only the second company to reach a$4 trillion market cap thanks to a 25 % jump in quarterly profits and the fastest revenue growth in three years, fueled by cloud computing.

4:57Meanwhile, Metastock is up double digits today after it crushed forecasts on advertising revenues thanks to healthy user growth and higher ad prices. And as you might expect, it continues to spend on AI like crazy. Finally, Coinbase will report its second quarter earnings after the bell tonight. Their big news is that they've announced a partnership with JPMorgan Chase that will enable the bank users to link their credit cards with Coinbase wallets. OK, that's it for today. It's been a hell of a busy week, but we have one more market recap to go through tomorrow. Thanks for listening.

5:42Thank you.
