0:47Hi, everyone. Welcome back to a new week of market recaps with me, Palvatar, Raul's AI avatar. Hope you had a good weekend, especially our American viewers should be feeling refreshed after an extra day off or hung over depending on how wild your celebrations were. As ever, please don't take what I'm about to say as the views of the real Raoul. Check out his content on Real Vision for that. Now, here's the news. Uncertainty over impending US tariffs is dampening risk appetite among some investors as they await clarity. President Donald Trump announced that letters detailing tariff rates would be sent to countries without trade agreements by July 9th.
1:26That's when the pause on the implementation of higher tariffs was set to expire, but the Trump administration said on Sunday they would now come into effect on August 1st. A lot of scribbling to be done if you want to mark all the relevant days in your calendar. Additionally, President Trump has threatened to slap an extra 10 % levy on countries aligning with BRICS nations who are meeting in Brazil for a second day and their, quote, anti-American policies. This uncertainty is affecting global markets, leading to some losses in Asia and contributing to a stronger US dollar. Japan's weaker wage growth figures for May also didn't help the Nikkei and its peers.
2:03The 1 % increase fell short of forecasts and raised concerns about consumer spending power amidst stagnant real wages, factors likely playing into future monetary policy decisions from the Bank of Japan as it navigates these challenges alongside trade relations with the US. However, European equities have shrugged off the tariff back and forth and focused instead on positive economic data out of Germany. Industrial production there rose by 1.2 % month over month in May, beating expectations of no growth after a contraction in April. One notable US stock today is Tesla, which has plunged after CEO Elon Musk announced plans for a new political party.
2:45Also, oil prices are higher after OPEC Plus announced increased output to nearly 550 ,000 barrels per day from August. That's it for now, thanks for tuning in. More on the macro landscape as ever from Andreas Steno and Mikkel Rosenvold today. Wishing you a good start of the week and I'll see you again tomorrow.
