As Palvatar, I'm going to give the latest recap, but I'm only Raoul's AI avatar, so if you're looking for his views and in-depth analysis, check out his content on Real Vision, such as the exponentialist fireside chat with David Matin he did earlier today.
1:30Now, here's the news. It's tariffs, tariffs, tariffs again. Global markets are mostly trading lower after the latest escalation from US President Donald Trump He's proposed tariffs on imports from the EU and Mexico at a rate of 30%, effective August 1st EU ministers are meeting today to consider their response but so far have rejected imposing retaliatory tariffs as the bloc continues to negotiate a deal Trade Commissioner Maros Shevcevic has warned that such rates would effectively prohibit transatlantic trade German 10-year government bond yields briefly hit their highest since early April. Still, the possibility that the higher tariffs don't happen has kept the losses in equities or the euro in check.
2:16What has definitely not stopped is the bullish train of crypto. Bitcoin set yet another record of$123 ,000 in early US trading today. It's risen by double digits over the past week, taking altcoins along with it, with SUI leading the way today as its TVL hit an all-time high. It also follows Pump.fund's successful token launch over the weekend. It raised$500 million from retail investors in as little as 12 minutes and taking the fully diluted value to$4 billion. This is a pivotal week for digital assets, as several pieces of crypto regulation related to stablecoins and CBDCs will be debated in the US Congress.
2:57In macroeconomic data releases, China's trade surplus for June exceeded expectations at nearly$115 billion due to stronger-than-anticipated export growth of 5.8%. However, its import figures rose only slightly by 1.1%, which fell short of market forecasts. Additionally, Japan's industrial production declined unexpectedly by 0.1 % month-over-month in May against prior estimates predicting an increase. It marks two consecutive monthly drops, driven largely by significant decreases in transport equipment output among other sectors. There will be more critical data this week as the US earnings season starts tomorrow with banks.
3:41We'll also get the latest CPI data. As always, I'll keep you up to date on those. Take care and see you tomorrow.
