- New orders for services declined to 50.3, and export orders fell into contraction.

1:19Anyway, let's see what's happening in the world of finance. In the US, the services sector has virtually stagnated, according to the ISM. Its services PMI unexpectedly dropped to 50.1 in July from 50.8 the month before, barely above the threshold of 50, which means no change. New orders for services declined to 50.3, with export orders once again falling back into contraction. Separately, the US Commerce Department says factory orders fell by 4.8 % in June from the previous month, the steepest decline since the pandemic. Although it was in line with expectations, it underscores the ongoing weakness in manufacturing demand.
2:00A plunge in commercial aircraft orders was the main culprit this time. All of this has of course again heightened speculation about an impending interest rate cut by the Federal Reserve. In Europe, private payroll employment in France stalled with a decline of nearly 4 ,800 jobs during the second quarter, contrasting sharply with prior forecasts that anticipated job gains. Germany's factory orders unexpectedly fell by 1 % month over month in June, against anticipations for growth and fuelling concerns about economic momentum within the Eurozone. Traders await upcoming retail sales figures for further insights.
2:40Unsurprisingly, tariffs remain very much in the news, with fresh threats by US President Donald Trump of new tariffs on semiconductors and pharmaceuticals, which could go as high as 250%. The changes in the trade policies have cut the US trade deficit in June by 16%, thanks to a sharp drop in consumer goods imports. The trade gap with China shrank to its lowest in more than 21 years. The Shanghai Composite Index has hit the highest level in 3.5 years on renewed optimism about Sino-American ties. However, Taiwan's and India's top indices both fell as the threats of higher tariffs linger. Separately, India's central bank held interest rates unchanged as expected.
3:25In the digital asset space, the pro-crypto stance is firming up at the SEC. The regulator's division of corporation finance says it does not consider liquid staking to be against the securities laws. This is when you deposit your crypto tokens for staking with a third-party provider, and in exchange, you receive derivative tokens that prove your ownership of the original funds plus additional rewards. Although the statement is not binding guidance, it means liquid staking providers are less likely to be sued by the SEC. Okay guys, that's it from me. I'll see you again tomorrow.
