1:44Terms and more at AppleCard.com. Hey, Chicago. Class it up with Crocs. You know back to school is coming in fast. so why wait to find your new fave footwear step into a local croc store and step into your new look try it style it make it yours because the right pair doesn't just show up it shows off first day fits handled walk out ready for whatever's next visit your nearest croc store today all right ben so the q a first and foremost billy t says which player smells the best matisse tell and paps are both magnificently smelling men magnificently scented individuals good musk um we sort of are we sort of spoke about this at the top in the last one but ricky um of lads and on and the fighting cock fame says being truthful how much do you know about transfers he's like sure ben we need you uh you know in media for a day because x player has just signed but i assume that there's a media distribution list at the work and i'm talking about like you may be eavesdropping at water coolers getting little breadcrumbs of who the type of player is that we're looking at mate i get so little i'm not a um yeah i'm not an itk at all but one thing that i will say is that the itk stuff that you because i don't i don't know anything the itk stuff that you see coming out you just at times you're kind of like you have absolutely no idea whether it is on the money or not and i don't know who any of the i don't really know who any of the people are so i'm kind of like like i said before i'm following along the same way that everyone else is um but i don't yeah that's really boring answer i know sorry that's a bit sad because i'd love to tell you that i know all the stuff but i don't know anything uh well he did also say there's a second part to this question um if you wore a pair of he says if you wore a pair of pants backwards at what time of day do you think you'd realize your mistake um gym i think in the morning do you not think like you know when you're in the gym and you kind of like if you're maybe doing some sort of like leg exercise or something you would know pretty swift if you got up actually i go for a walk in the morning as well you're a walker aren't you i am i'm glad you said change one of those equally applicable uh to be fair but uh yeah No, I know what you mean.

4:31But I mean, I guess it all depends what type of pants you wear as well. What do you wear? Well, I like to wear, I think they're, what do you call them? Jersey briefs? Wear they're sort of like shorts. I think that's what you call them. Jersey briefs? Is that what they are? I don't want to. It's not those like Y front pants, is it? Hang on. I thought you might have been a pant man. No, I'm not. No, I don't. No, I don't. God, no, I don't wear those type of briefs that I just said. jersey boxers there you go that's what i wear briefs are like the briefs are like the pant they're like the male version of a bra right yeah those sort of brief pants yeah i i i had you down as like a i think they're called tanga briefs have you seen that men's tanga briefs i think that's kind of your vibe absolutely which is like the um it's kind of like the the pouch set up yeah wow that's uh that's quite something that i probably should eradicate from my uh delete cookies yeah yeah yeah um charlie man just says uh was ben the one that planted the goona cup on thomas frank at bournemouth hat tip if so but seriously i just want to say how impressed i was at his professionalism during the halftime chat on Saturday when the sprinklers suddenly came on and Chrissy Hewton started smirking at Hainsey as the water got closer and closer.

5:59The man was unflappable in the face of the impending drenching. They don't teach that sort of thing at journalism school. I never know what to do with the sprinklers. Like, should you just let it, if it's coming, do you just take the hit? Do you know what I mean? Is there like a code of conduct there? Do you just take the battering from the sprinkler and just firm it? you know i mean with chris hewton there i mean chris hewton is immaculately turned out i'd feel like a real ass getting him soaked yeah i guess there's also the consideration which is slightly um hello of like the equipment the equipment getting wet you know it's like probably quite think of the mechanisms exactly but that would be on the that would be on my mind um i don't know i mean the way you could look at it it depends if it's it could be your sort of extras you're having a laugh moment where you might be the guy that got drenched by a sprinkler and you go viral you know that um i think there's a lot of that going on at the moment in sports media well actually maybe just tv full stop i think like a lot of people are on the hunt for that moment aren't they they're on the hunt for that thing that they had no part of whatsoever and then it kind of happens to them and just sort of projects them into some sort of weird stratosphere of oh there goes that guy that was xyz you know um maybe i just need it yeah maybe i should just get absolutely hosed down alongside chris hewton and hope that that maybe is my big break if it was if the veracity of the sprinkler was such that it could actually like hose your trousers off and reveal that you were wearing your pants back front as well then you know 5 30 kickoff and i haven't noticed yeah dangerous danger zone danger zone um what else do we have so here's here's a serious one solemn faces um tom foyne says do you feel that the players ever treat your work as an obligation or do you think they genuinely see it as a part of the club a part of their duty um no i i'm we're quite lucky we're quite lucky in terms of like the players being good with us like they're they're they're really good guys and i mean i'm lucky i'm lucky in the sense that we've gone and done some shoots abroad as well which i think is you get a bit of an extended period so for example with tony kinski like we were with him all day and then you end up creating a bit of a connection that goes beyond it goes beyond just asking questions i mean there's of course with absolutely everything there are people that are always professional but maybe they're they're kind of like they'll do their media and then they'll shoot home and then be other people that you have a bit of a chat with but we're quite lucky with the group that we have in terms of them being good guys as well like the one that I'd give the example of I love Kevin Danso.

8:58Kevin Danso is just such a good guy you know he's a really really good bloke and we've got a few players like that but if you look at the sort of stuff that he does away from football like just as a as a good human for charity he is absolutely top but he's a good example of someone that you you'd like you know if like you think oh who'd be good to go for a beer with like who would you enjoy having a chat and I think all Spurs fans would love to sit with Kevin Dancer. He's a really lovely man. Yeah, he'd be my number one, definitely, like in that sort of ballpark. William G, I mean, we have sort of spoken about this, but it's a more direct question, I guess.

9:40William G says, Kinski has done incredibly well since the Madrid game. How do you think he recovered so well from such a difficult situation? He does seem like a lovely chap. Yeah, if I can do a bit of a plug, actually, for some like a video that worked on. We did like a documentary with the goalkeeping coaches and they showed the methodology that they went through with Tony after the Madrid game and how they recovered, how he recovered from it. But basically they did like a full analysis after the game and went through absolutely everything that had gone on that night. And that is not just the game.

10:19They watched the full hour before kickoff as well. So they went through every single step of his preparation. And like I kind of said to you on the other pod, Tony's meticulous. He's so prepared and he's always so sharp with his training and the way that he goes about things. So when they were then going through the analysis of what went wrong on the night, they were able just to pinpoint the fact that he slipped. There was an error there because he slipped and the kind of same for the second goal. but then when they asked him would you change anything in terms of your preparation or did you do everything that you would normally do his answer was no I did absolutely everything right and then Fabian and Dean the goalkeeping coaches were able to say well because you've gone through the process that you always go through and we know that your kicking is world-class you're an outstanding distributor of the ball we don't actually have a problem here that is not actually an issue to solve you know like even and even though the world was kind of i remember so vividly on the night the the kind of everyone was desperate to have an opinion on it and stuff in actual fact i think for tony and just from the documentary that we put out you can kind of see like from his point of view he settled that evening quite quickly that he he got past it quite quickly because they were able to be just really, really calm and rational about what had gone on.

11:50So, like I said before, I think this season people are going to see with Tony, they're going to see a guy that is so ready to be the number one. I think if you're playing FPL this year and you haven't got a goalkeeper yet at four and a half million, he is an unbelievable steal. Get him in your team. Before the season even kicks off, soccer fans are already making predictions. Who wins the league? Who qualifies for Europe? And who's lifting the trophy at season's end? On Calci, America's number one prediction market platform, you're trading against peers in a live market, meaning there's no house.

Hey Chicago, class it up with Crocs. You know back to school is coming in fast. So why wait to find your new fave footwear? Step into a local croc store and step into your new look. Try it. Style it. Make it yours. Because the right pair doesn't just show up.

13:41It shows off. First day fits, handled. Walk out ready for whatever's next. Visit your nearest croc store today. Do you think, I guess just you're, you know, I'm not asking for any like ITK on this or anything, mate. Just your sort of read on the situation. do you feel that yeah because I think a lot of people will say it's a big deal right for Kinski despite ending the season really well it's a real big deal for him to be entrusted to be Tottenham's number one now to be our sort of our main guy but do you think it's entirely that comeback that resilience that he showed after the Atletico Madrid game that has probably given Roberto that reason to say I can trust this guy with this I think um his ball playing when you watch him up close his ball playing is is so elite it's remarkable yeah it's really like it's off both feet the way that he sort of i don't know if you saw the pre-season game against chelsea there was a pass that he hit over the top of cole palmer that was very similar to the one that he hit on his debut against liverpool just over salah's head and it's almost like skimmed his hair like he's he's so technically good that i actually don't think there's too much I mean, he is a brilliant character.

14:58And Roberto said at the back end of last season, he thought about making him captain just to show how impressive his, his character was like just kind of almost as a, as a marker of what he, what he'd done. But I think, I just think it is less the character thing and more that he's actually just a really, really, really strong goalkeeper. I actually think that you saw the save he makes against Leeds where he flicks it onto the bar. And then he did the same thing against Chelsea in pre-season as well. The save he makes against Everton at the end of the season. I had a really great conversation with him, actually.

15:39I'm sure you won't mind me saying this. I had a really great conversation with him about the goal against Chelsea at the back end of the season where Enzo Fernandes scored scored for maybe 25 yards. And I think Carragher might have said on the TV, he might have been like, oh, I think he could have saved that. I was just amazed at how this was over the summer, Tony and I were talking about. I was just amazed at how kind of clear he is in terms of the way that he analyzes the goals back. He was like, no, I watched it back. I actually think on that occasion, just a really good strike. And he's not being defensive.

16:19he's just like no no just practically that one was one i couldn't do anything about in the circumstances on to the next you know which i think is like that stands him in such good stead to to be the number one yeah i mean that's probably the part i missed out isn't it he is good not just like a mentality thing yeah but don't you are you finding at the moment in terms of the saves he's making you're just like oh he's just done that again it's just yeah unbelievable I don't want to heap too much pressure on the young lad, but I'm going to do it anyway. The recess at times, genuinely, the way he moves, the sort of reflexes he has are just astonishing.

17:01I want to say he made a really good save against Hoffenheim, didn't he, as well? As well as in one of the behind-closed-doors ones he played in as well. Yeah, he did make a good save against Hoffenheim, and then he obviously had the really good save. He had the three saves against Chelsea. Chelsea, I think I'm just thinking about Chelsea, yeah. Where we'd gone down to 10 and then he makes the save. I mean, the save where he kind of reacts, Robertson sort of went to play a back pass but got it slightly wrong and then he reacts and makes himself big. I thought that was awesome. I guess just to reiterate this point, mate, that we've spoken about it a fair bit, but still.

17:41Viva Cois says, I'm curious what the general mood is like heading into the season and what feels different about this year. And also, who's impressed you most recently with their behind-the-scenes attitude, players or staff? Oh, good question. I'm a big fan of Fabian Ott. If you don't know much about him as a goalkeeping coach, I'd have a look. He's a really incredible academic as well as a footballer. He has a really, as well as a coach. He has an amazing backstory. He kind of walked away from football and then got back into it because he just missed it so much. but he regularly will write papers on how, like one of the ones that he wrote was how crowd noise can affect decision making, which I just find so fascinating.

18:40And I think we're onto an absolute, we're onto a brilliant one there. And then the other one is Andres Georgeson, the set piece coach. He's a really big believer in sort of like team cultures as well. I think he's absolutely incredible. We did an interview with him last year, which is worth watching. Hopefully we'll get to do something with him again this year. But he was just at the end of last season. If you consider the, I think this, that is correct. I think we were second for goals scored from set pieces and first for goals prevented from set pieces, which if you think about the season we had, like ultimately probably made the difference, right?

19:17Because we, even down to the last game, like Jaupelinha's goal, it comes from, I believe I'm right in saying it came from a set play. so massively him and and it like main thing is just energy the energy at the moment is cool like it's really sort of it's upbeat it's positive and like i i'm i'm in that place where i cannot wait to watch spurs like i i can't wait to get started this weekend i want to soak up every last sort of drop of it i'll be watching every preview sort of listening to every podcast and when I'm like that I know we're in a good spot you know when you like just want all of the content all the time like you're in a good place so I think that's the main thing Ben mate a bit of news has dropped since we've been recording this so you know I hope that in the coming week I'm going to see your face again speaking with some of these players that David Ornstein has double dropped on us this evening but I haven't been on across anything.

20:21What have I missed? Like, oh, Jesus, have I just missed? Have I left my phone inside? They might be calling you. Yeah, they might be calling you saying, get your ass to Hotspur Way. Well, yeah, Savino, Mamouche, things are apparently progressing there. So hopefully I'll see you chatting to the pair of them. You're going to have to do an emergency pod. You have to kick me off so that you can do an emergency pod. Yeah, if and when. But, you know, aside for that, is there anything coming up ahead of the season that we can check out that you're working on? Do you know what? What I would love, if I can flip this on you, I would just say, please, please, please, if there are things that your listeners would like, shout.

21:11I'm always keen to try and see. this year what I would love to do more of is helping get things that fans would like to see made I think there's a big like I said at the beginning there's a big push at the moment we really want to kind of like make sure that we're properly building that bond and making that bond really strong again with our fans which I think at the moment is amazing I do think there is a really really nice feeling at the moment I don't know whether you'd agree but I think there's a we're in a really good space at the moment between all of us fans and kind of the players and the way that things are moving.

21:46So if there are any things that people would like to see us do or interviews that people would like to see us get away or people that are the club that people like to see us speak to, then shout and equally, yeah, come and do match day pre-match with Rob Daly and Clive Allen and I. It's so much fun. and given everything that we said on the other pod about how pundits at times can be a little bit subjective with their opinions, it is the most kind of like subjective Spurs lensed possible match preview you can get. So come and join us on Match Days. Ben, mate, it's been an absolute pleasure. Thanks for giving us your time and much love.

Welcome back to a special bonus episode of Rule the Roost! Following our main chat with Spurs presenter and broadcaster Ben Haines, we open up the mailbag to put your questions directly to the man himself.

Ben tackles a brilliant mix of the serious, the insightful, and the completely absurd from our listeners and patrons. We dive straight into the media's anti-Spurs bias, discussing how the club internally views narratives like last year's nonsense that Tottenham getting relegated would be good for the Premier League.

On the footballing side, we look at Antonin Kinsky's incredible mental recovery since his early exit in Madrid, and explore the general mood heading into the new season, including who has shown the most behind-the-scenes resilience. We also probe whether the players treat media duties as an obligation or if they view Ben as a genuine part of the club fabric.

Then, things get a little lighter. We try to extract exactly how much water cooler transfer gossip Ben actually overhears at Hotspur Way, ask the hard-hitting question of which player smells the best, and praise his unflappable professionalism during a near-drenching from the sprinklers alongside a smirking Chris Hughton. Oh, and we also need to know how long it would take him to realise he put his pants on backwards.
