In short

Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-2 draw vs Brighton, framed as a “gutting” result despite “positives” in performance; discussion centers on late stoppage-time concession, relegation pressure, midfield balance, and what it means for survival chances.

Guest backgrounds

No named guests appear in the transcript; it’s a reaction/podcast discussion with listener comments.

Key claims

Spurs were competitive and showed fight, including a strong second-half response, but failed to hold the lead and conceded deep into stoppage time. The midfield looked better with senior returns—Bissouma and Bentancur—after being rushed back. Conor Gallagher is defended as adequate in an advanced “number 10” role when supported by experienced players. Graham Bergvall and Gray are praised but criticized for youth/inexperience. Defensive blame is suggested for Spence’s lack of tracking on Brighton’s equalizer; Danso may also face flak. Xavi Simons’ worldie is highlighted as a major positive.

Notable examples

Simmons’ screamer; Matoma’s side-footed volley from an unusual angle; Welbeck chance hitting Van de Ven; Brighton’s equalizer after Spurs’ late momentum.

0:14Well, that's pretty gutting, isn't it?

0:23It's hard to know how to slice this one because

0:30there were a lot of positives from that. I think there's a lot of things we can Reflect on from that game You know I would have At the start of this match I would have Taken a point you know I would have taken a point All day long It's the manner of it isn't it That's the thing Football The ebb and flow of a game It's not completely It doesn't exist in a vacuum It's not devoid of all the context that's built up around the match, right? So the whole kind of, I would have taken that before the game and then to see three points snatched away deep into stoppage time is...

1:22It's tough. Londonista, thank you, says, just got to drop this here now. So much pain, so much hurt. Yeah. And that's, I think that's it. I feel gutted, you know. I kind of thought seeing Simmons' screamer flash in, you know, the sort of the Welbeck opportunity that nine out of 10 times probably just bounces over the line, dribbles over the line when it hits Van de Ven's batty like it did. That's staying out. Simmons just scoring a worldie like that. There's that bit of me that was like, maybe we're in business here. Maybe we're in, maybe wins are back on the menu boys.

2:18But yeah. Oh man. Looking at, do you know what? Looking at that league table when we had those three points for that, for that, you know, That magical 15, 20 minutes when we had three points was quite nice, wasn't it? It was quite nice seeing us out of the relegation zone, putting that pressure on Forest and West Ham to have to perform. And once again, it's like, I don't think that means the pressure's entirely off of them, not by a long stretch, but... but it's not quite the same is it it's not quite the same um had we have won that and we did play well um there are certain things i'll get into the midfields i think that's like one of the big key things here but

3:24it's just gutting man it's gutting it's gutting that we couldn't hold on you know and i think there'll be there'll be all sorts of like grand inquiries and things like that after this amongst fans across all the podcasts is that performance is the manner of that not capitulation at the end but just conceding deep into deep into stoppage time like that is that just what spurs are are we just a team that lacks belief and lacks that bit of quality Spence you know didn't really track back I don't really want to single people out but I think Danso's going to get a fair amount of flack for the goal for the equaliser but Spence was halfway up the pitch not really making a massive effort to get back you know there's things there there's issues it's a good finish it's a good finish from Brighton to level it up obviously Matoma's goal is you know when people are scoring goals like that against you i i honestly i don't i don't think i've ever seen a goal like that i don't think i've seen a side footed volley like that ever from that type of angle and when that sort of thing's happening to you you know you sort of you look at it the other way around you think it's just not it's just not to be is it but then when we we got back into it started fighting again second half yeah end of the first half start of the second half we were not really at it and i thought here we go but then they fought got their way out in front and to just to lose it it's just oh man and it just becomes like it becomes ever more real doesn't it you know i did the uh

5:22I did the um the patreon preview patreon.com slash rtrpod patreon preview last night and uh I feel like it was just like I don't know a bit of a misery marathon and I didn't mean for it to be but I was I was sort of just saying that really in my heart of hearts I can't see us getting out of this I don't see how we get out of this and they have me believing they have me believing just for a bit and yeah I'll say I'm not entirely I'm not entirely disbelieving now but is going to take West Ham or Forest. Slipping up is going to take West Ham or Forest. Making mistakes, having peaked too soon, losing a bit of faith or losing a bit of belief, I don't know.

6:25Getting a couple of injuries, I don't know. But it's going to take, it's got to be that and Spurs have to, obviously, continue to dig deep and show more of what they show today. I mean, the thing is, again, I get it. As I say, football isn't in a vacuum and stuff. I know part of the context behind this as well is Brighton before this. I don't know if they still will be, but Brighton before this were the most informed team in the country. so for a lacking in confidence half fit Tottenham I say half fix I'm talking about Bissouma Bentancur who have been rushed back two very important players today to put up that type of fight to show that type of spirit to show that level of quality at times

7:26isn't something to be ignored however

7:34you know

7:40the sort of the beats the story behind a match might not be binary but ultimately the result is and I just think to to get to this kind of point and to not get the three points I don't know I'm just repeating myself here. I'm repeating myself.

8:04Bissouma and Bentancur. So I said on the pods, I don't know. I said on one of the pods, and I wasn't digging them out. I wasn't having a pop because I think they've both been great. But the fact that Graham Bergvall, Gray especially, who has been particularly good. but Graeme Bergvall are uh they're such a pivotal part of this side it's not really a good thing they're too young they're too inexperienced and they've both been trying you know their hardest and they've both been kind of putting up a a good fight and playing well at times you know and at time other times not but then when you're looking at two players like basuma and bentanker who were both good today spectacular they weren't amazing but they were both good and i think and you know i've i've complained about those two players before in you know in different ways and in at different times but they showed you what it is to have a couple of senior players out there a couple of senior players that are just a bit smarter a bit smarter in the press a bit smarter in reading the game being a bit more canny against opposition players and I think I saw quite a lot of like unfavorable takes on Conor Gallagher today who I think if we're being fair was actually all right I think he actually played okay in that sort of advanced role in that combative sort of number 10 role because he had the backing of like two more senior experienced players who i think i think probably the ceiling of bergval and gray both of them are higher than basuma or bentanker's maybe you know maybe i'm not saying definitely but maybe but right now i think both Bissouma and Bentenker are just better than the two of them and as I say I don't think Bissouma and Bentenker are particularly like outstanding players I think Bissouma I think Bissouma has the capability to be quite outstanding um maybe doesn't show it enough or whatever you know that's one for another day but I think he you know he's yeah he's he's decent xavi seaman's obviously very good uh you know i criticized him quite a lot of late mostly my main sort of thing has been great player but he's got to step up a bit more he stepped up today didn't he so hats off to him official apology xavi well done lads um

11:06incredible goal amazing and you know it's a sort of goal as well that you could just celebrate beat your chest and not have to worry about var or anything like that because it's just a worldie it's a screamer that's curled in and that's just it's just that isn't it it's just it's just losing that momentum and like siemens is siemens is um reaction to their equaliser I think spoke for all of us didn't it I think that was that was telling um I don't know I just don't know I don't like because you know I do know but I don't want to say but that performance today has given me a bit of hope again and obviously that's good it's always good to have hope and I don't want to be resigned to the fact that Spurs are getting relegated or something but it just makes it all a bit more scary it makes it all a bit more I don't know painful if things if things don't work out or i don't know does it push us closer to chelsea being the ones to relegate is all that type of stuff you know there's all those things but look we got a point we got a point against brighton and i think we've just got a we got to take that as a good thing despite the fact that yeah we could have had all three oh man

12:56it's just let's see what other people are saying um benedict fox says i'm sick really respected the team today they didn't deserve that but of course that's what happens yeah

13:1810m scally says much better performance problem is there's just no room for error anymore if there were 10 games left we'd be fine it's done unfortunately i think that that's that's part of the problem isn't it you know saying in terms of like i think that's what i was trying to touch on at the very top when i was saying that there are things to take from that there our positives to take from that but it feels like it feels hard to focus on the positives when every single game is a fight for survival so fantastic there's there's there's positives that if we were like you say for us 10 games to go 20 games to go if we were halfway for a season maybe even if deserve he had come in instead of tudor right and we'd have seen a performance like that into Zerbi's, whatever it is, second game, and we know we've got a bit of time ahead of us, then you'd be like, there's positives there, vamos, let's go, you know?

14:16However,

14:21when we're this close to it, and when it's just, you know, every single point is so precious, to lose those two at the end there. I was so annoyed with Brighton but to be fair I didn't really because I just thought you know why are you playing out your skin why are you playing out your skin deep into stoppage time this is just jumping on the Tottenham thing but then I saw actually they're quite close to getting into Europe so you know the Tottenham main character syndrome can take can take an afternoon off Pirate Dread Roberts says better last week um better this week we are we're getting better um who knows if we have the time left yeah again that's it isn't it time isn't it arius 7000x says gut punch hard to take phil mayo says felt we deserve four points just crushed super coys 1882 says kinski must start the rest of the season it was a decent performance from him again today if if and I can't really bear to look at it too much because it was mostly just head in my hands and stuff could he have could he have done better with the equalizer I'm just asking because I sort of felt like it looked quite close to him it was slammed at quite some pace and everything um but I'm just I'm just saying could he have I don't know please tell me but yeah I I agree though.

15:57He does need to, he needs to play for the, for the rest of the season. Cause he's, he's good. I think, I think he's gotten, I think he's got, I think he's probably got a number of negatives that make me not that enthralled at the idea of him being say like our permanent keeper going forwards next season. Ideally, I would like us to sign a new goalkeeper. However, I think he's got slightly less flaws than Vicario. And I just think his style, being able to play with his feet a bit more, just serves his team so much better. And I think, funnily enough, considering what he went through in that Champions League game, I think he's quite cool under pressure as well.

16:47I think Vicario gets quite rattled any time the ball comes near him. When they start passing the ball back to Vicario, he just seems like he's suddenly starting to lose it a bit and get a bit panicked and everything's a bit rushed. But I think Vicario has, I think Kinski has a bit of a cooler head on him. And maybe that's just being a bit younger. Maybe that's just his personality type. I don't know. But I did think he was good today, to be honest.

17:27um andy perry says this one really hurts just too many poor players

17:37yeah

17:41it's hard to know isn't it anyway because i do think they played i do actually think they played quite well and at times but then I guess it's you know you're going to be judged you're going to be judged on the on the on the result and the manner of it and it's once again isn't it Spurs just kind of I don't know just that lack of concentration or something in that final moments that lack of belief is just is telling isn't it VinFuego says a lot of positives to take out of that will be okay against Wolves hope so I mean we don't I don't think we've beaten Wolves in two or three seasons now bit of a bogey team for us you could say I yeah hope so mate let's hope so callum lane says worried it's all too late even if we try like we did today we just lack that quality i can't shake the doom

18:52peter gordon says unbelievable that that result will do more harm than good um i mean i don't know we don't know that i know what you're saying i get what you're saying like the deflation and everything caused by that happening to us however you know we just got of trust that Deserby can get them to focus on the positives from this point I don't know you know

19:19um

19:25uh IJ Yacoub says um it all had a feeling there at the end that the players and Deserby know it's over do you think i don't know i just think they i just think they're a bit gutted maybe mate i don't know you know who knows i think it's best like and you know i'm definitely not you know i definitely do this as well but i always try and tell myself it's best not to try and like in football or in any walk of life jump into somebody else's mind and sort of predict what it is that they're thinking just you know we don't know what the players are thinking they're just probably gutted that they didn't get the win today um because they fought really hard for it so you know

20:15josh o 'leary says the performance underlines why we needed to make a proper managerial change earlier if we had 10 games left i'd be convinced we'll stay up yeah and I think it also it also underlines to me just how useless Thomas Frank was because we just sort of I mean all right we played we played really well against Manchester City didn't we win 3-0 at the Etihad or something there with him which is mental but you know we just sort of do that don't we but I mean I think it's just I get it I know you want to give a manager a bit of time and stuff but the decision to stick with thomas frank as long as we did when it was very very clear that it wasn't working it was very very clear that he wasn't the guy will be the main thing of this season i think um in terms of like it's well it's decided where we are right now in the table hasn't it and

21:27maybe where we are in this in this division or next you know division next season i don't know br web says um heartbreaking gut-wrenching but the best we've played for a while if we keep building on that we might be okay

21:54Adam McFarlane says that's life it's only a game people yeah but you know I don't really buy that I know what you're saying to a degree but like of course people are bothered about their sports teams right you know the elation that you feel at moments like Ajax and stuff is is really very hard to find elsewhere so these kind of the the the reverse feeling of that that we're all kind of feeling more and more each week you know I don't know I don't think you need to police how people feel about stuff and I don't think you need to try and you know put it into this context as i've said on here a few times now that it doesn't really matter because there's big things going on in the world like there will always be things going on in the world and you know i don't think it means that people aren't conscious of that but the sort of sense that people shouldn't be upset over their football team or whatever i just i don't know i It doesn't fly for me.

23:07Wallach says, it's our best performance in yonks.

23:12Ricochet Pig says, should we just start the Phoenix Club now? Let's see. Let's see what Enoch have up their sleeves. if we do go down and they sort of think we're just going to coast back up and don't properly invest we're going to be in trouble in the championship i don't care what anybody says to me right i don't i'm i don't buy that this team this side walks the championship at all i don't buy that it's going to be fun i don't think we're going to finish on 100 plus points like what Tottenham have you been watching for the last few years like Tottenham like that play against teams like Southampton Stoke West Brom on the regular and don't do very well against them you know we played a we played a lot of the teams probably more than half of the teams Sheffield United more than half of these teams in the in the Premier League in the not so distant past

24:26Leicester City Leicester City who are all but relegated from the championship now you know I don't know I mean we do often we do actually quite often beat Leicester I have to say it always gets it always gets like muddled muddled ironic always gets muddled by the the fact they won the league that year and we came third in a two-horse race and all that. But when you actually look at it, we actually quite often beat Leicester.

25:03But still, we don't feel like it, does it? But yeah, I think if the board have got to be serious, if we go down, they've got to be serious. We've got to get business done quick. if we know Romero, Van Der Ven, whoever want out, sell them and get their replacements in early doors. Make sure we have a team that's settled and ready to start playing in the championship. Cancel the Australia tour, you know? Like, we're going to be out what? We're going to be out in Australia and New Zealand. Was it six days or something before the championship season begins? Stuff like that. They've got to get more serious.

25:52I know I'd like people people think it's people think it's like a ridiculous thing to talk about and they think it's just like oh no no you know don't don't be don't be so silly Spurs or walk the championship the Spurs Spurs aren't even immune from double they're not immune from doing what what's happened to Leicester and this isn't some I told you so but we saw the way our form was going and i said on here from i don't know probably november december time if we don't do something quick if we don't stop something stop this form and stop these type of performances we're gonna get sucked into a relegation battle then i was called silly and overly emotional and all that type of stuff you could see it it's not even like i'm not even sat here saying like oh you know I'm some you know oracle that I saw this it was it was there in black and white you could see the form that we were in you could see the performances we were putting in unlike anything I've seen in my life as a Spurs fan this is this season this has been something different the team doesn't really work you know the team doesn't really work it's been poorly assembled and that doesn't change just because we're in the championship so all these preconceptions that we have that the championship's this and the championship's that we're going to get 100 plus points you know it's not it's not a thing it's not a thing they've got to be serious they've got to be serious i mean this this is coming on from ricochet pigs comment about a phoenix club you know i think if spurs continue to prat about if even if even after this you know they've been relegated this teaches them nothing right then i think people will seriously start to look at things like a phoenix i'll you know ultimately i want enic gone now and i know people will say be careful what you wish for and whatever i want to have a roll of the dice now we've seen the enic story play out and it's only getting worse now it's only getting worse you know all this stuff that people say doesn't matter it does matter you know rubbing it in our faces doing these south by southwest conferences this sort of like self fellatio that they're that all these execs and stuff do on platforms like linkedin i've been so successful touching bases touching bases and circling back on you know aligning verticals all that corporate jargon bollocks you know having to see all that having to see all this back slapping and all that type of stuff in a season where spurs are going down in a season where spurs are getting relegated we're transitioning past football i'm going to give it i'm going to give a big self-congratulatory speech on how this club has managed to transition past football yeah we see it we see it you know we see it you definitely transitioned past football a long time ago that's why we're in this mess i want them gone like i don't think i don't think i don't think anything good happens for this club now and when i say good yeah there might be a freak cup win or something like that because that's just the very nature of football right but in terms of like are we going to build something are we going to build tottenham into a team and a club with firm foundations a club that can challenge at the top of the table consistently and be considered a top team that operates in a proper fashion.

29:52I'm telling you now, that will never happen under Enoch. We've seen it. We've done this one to death now. That will never, ever happen under Enoch. They will continue to milk what they can out of the club with boxing matches, boxing matches, with fights. with non-match day events. And that gives some Spurs fans even a weird sense of satisfaction. You can't really, you can't really go through, look at that, we're going to be the rich, this is what I got on Twitter the other day when I was complaining about going down to the championship. Somebody said, well, we'll be the richest club in the division by miles.

30:41I don't care. like what's that like king of the dung heap do you know i mean like who cares great that's not paying my mortgage do you mean that's not putting petrol in my car why do i care like literally why do i care what i care about is the club doing exciting things like making smart signings building a team that is geared towards success not just doing this opportunistic bollocks that they've done for years sign this player sign that player hope it works out look how it's working out look how that's working out but great kept the wage bill down kept the wage bill down and our non-match day revenue alone will seems to be the richest club in the championship.

31:38Way. You'll never sing that.

31:48In a classroom of sodas, most stay quiet. Then there's Mr. Pibb. Sweet cherry, bold outbursts, the kind of flavor that gets attention. Bold kick of cherry. Hey, yo, Mr. Pibb.

32:07MJBTHFC1991 says absolutely gutted we couldn't get it over the line I think Xavi Siemens must be the most baffling player I can ever remember at Spurs moments of brilliance but also frustrating with his decisions yep

32:22the Lock and Soul Express says feels sick but I have to say the midfield looked much better Madder's back in the squad all hope is not gone yet it's getting there though isn't it mate

Read the full transcript

32:37James says so frustrating obviously but if we play like that for the rest of the season we'll be okay one point gained Coise I hope so mate Wilson T says man I was celebrating when my kids feel like a right for don't I'm just like saying that is quite funny you know it's that moment isn't it it's almost like if you had a video that could be played back to 10 000 people after that uh after that game of your celebrations that when javi seaman's goal went in i was all sat there eight minutes goes up we're all sat there please tottenham please tottenham please just hold on that's what me and charlotte are doing sat on the sofa please just hold on Tottenham please and then they just score and you're just like oh god oh god

33:35in Johnson says uh we can't forget we're in the mix with other bad teams they will this is will in capitals they will drop points it's mentality now yeah and our mentality's awful mate um deuces wide says when i said i wanted to feel something again it definitely wasn't this heartbreaking squigma says two absolute bullets conceded in one of the best performances this year sums up our season we're struggling for any sort of break from the footballing gods yeah

34:14Vinfuego says Rodders and Gallagher played their part today such a shame they haven't got 90 minutes in them yet Oliver Beach says Ricochet Pig um we still don't I've got to say Ricochet there's there's now a lot of people that want to know where that name's come from how it's come about um i've even had text messages from people being like this person is such an elusive character and such a like big part of the rule the roost universe now if you like um i don't know why it tickles people so much um mjb also says i celebrated the shavvy goal wildly but did the players over celebrate with 20 minutes to go it was like a last minute winner but there's a lot of football left to be played i know you mean but i think it was just natural wasn't it i think it's to be such a miserable season for them as well that you know i can't you know i'm not going to um I'm not going to tell them off being happy about an amazing goal flying in, you know.

35:33I don't think we scored many of those goals either, have we? This season. Lord Spurs says, if we've been playing like that since Frank left, we'd be fine. Yep.

35:47Chaitan Lakhani says, put your foot through it, Danso. Put your foot through it, the trauma. Adam C says, how can we keep going back to the well again? So, so gutted. We go again until the very end. Coys. Yeah. Richard James says, better performance, but better performances don't help us. We need wins. Too little, too late. Yeah, maybe. Sam Statham says, Simmons could have easily got two cards for a celebration. daft with um stewart the walking eight ball at well okay yeah walking magic eight ball out well on the whistle may have inadvertently helped spurs um yeah bandana hatches don't know he was he was really after poro scored the opener that chance when he just slipped through and it just hit the post i've got to say as well man that the the rebound falling to kola moani what a useless player he is man like in and amongst all the positivity what a useless bum that player is like i don't want to see him anywhere near the team again he's a lone player just get rid of him man like give tell some minutes or something you know just get color morning away from the team what a bum awful why is that so funny

37:19bum yeah it's quite fun isn't it saying charlotte's called that uh i just like saying bum that's why i'm saying it bum bum body bum um uh darby keogh says the one time we put pressure on the cross and force a shite ball they end up scoring gutted

37:41Sankara Spurs says we beat City 2-0 my mistake Cliff M says it was a good performance today something we haven't seen in ages in the league but because Vinay Langer and the board were months too slow to act we can't even enjoy a good performance

38:03Tariq Alex says

38:08I don't know what that means sorry just got dumped after eight years I don't get it sorry Big Fluffy Cloud says a bit messy at times in defence I'm worried West Ham might pull away and will struggle to keep up

38:33Raven Miyazaki says no it is just a game the fact you get addicted to it doesn't nullify the fact that it's mindless entertainment taken far too seriously by people with no real life purpose i mean i would say raven you are on a saturday night watching a man on youtube talking about football so you know think like my point is don't we all just do stuff that we like i don't know i think no real life purpose i think that's a bit much i've got to say i take umbridge of that and that's a bit much um but yeah we definitely are a bit addicted to it A good friend of mine actually has a good sort of theory on all this sort of thing, but I'll save it for another day.

39:32We'll talk about it at another time.

39:40Richard James says, today feels even worse than Sunderland. So close, just when I was beginning to believe. Josiah Green says, you're down. Okay, maybe. Vin Fuego says watch Blackburn versus City last night Coventry and considering Blackburn are teetering on the brink they were a decent outfit Morishita was a real handful Spurs beware Jonas Milner where is the comfort here where Edward BFLO says we've lost 2-2 Ricochet Pig says that they'll they'll reveal the name when, or the meaning behind said name, when we win a match with an exclamation mark as well for a bit of added, added piquancy, a bit of spicy, you know, still a little, a little touch at the end there.

40:40Super Todd says improvement, but too gradual. I think we've run out of roads.

40:55johnny b says i'm 50 years old i've been shackled to this nonsense since 1981 can they just piss off just for a bit um i mean they might be from the top flight mate you know that's where we find ourselves isn't it um ads dice says can you mention gallagher i joined late but i felt like all our problems have been in midfield um and i feel like that was where we were better today do you like bis gallagher um and benton car yeah i did i did and i said at the top i i feel like gallagher played much better with those two i'm not saying he's perfect i'm not saying it was you know all is forgiven or anything like that and actually it did make a good signing but you know i saw quite a few takes being like we'd be doing so much better today were it not for Gallagher and I I just don't really share that opinion I didn't think he was like abject to date if anything I actually thought he was okay um so you know it's kind of how I feel about it um Villa Stein says does deserve he deserve criticism for um for using three substitute windows on four subs I don't know I'm not you know I'm not sure um

42:19we come in pieces says hey mate enjoyed your pods this week you seemed a bit more positive i think we can take a lot from this match it's forward progress just hope it's not too late i mean that's that's kind of it isn't it mate that's just you know that's where we uh that's where we find ourselves hoping praying with all our might that west ham or forest would just suddenly have a real blip a real blip and we we have to capitalize we have to be there and we have to capitalize on that um but i don't know i don't know that's really gutting and i feel like i'm just going to go around in circles and talk about how gutted I am and how gutting that was so you know what I think I might go and enjoy the rest of my evening now but thank you everybody for tuning in I do appreciate it um please leave ratings reviews all that type of stuff if you're watching on YouTube like subscribe uh you know all that type of thing thank you um everyone we just gotta try and find some hope from somewhere don't we but you know better performance today and you know we've got to just take from that what we can I guess come on you Spurs

Tottenham suffer yet another heartbreak in a season of heartbreaks as Brighton score an equaliser deep into stoppage time to deny them their first league win in 2026.
