In short
Rule the Roost Q&A with Billie T on Spurs’ current identity crisis—“Spurs’ identity vs patience”—after poor performances, especially the loss to Nottingham Forest, plus Christmas dinner sides and carol chat.
Guest backgrounds
Billie T is a Tottenham fan who works in a primary school and regularly discusses Spurs form, tactics, and fan culture. The episode is framed as a Q&A with another host (Rule the Roost).
Key claims
- Spurs look “harrowing” week to week despite being mid-table on paper; they struggle to create attacking patterns and shots on target.
- Thomas Frank is blamed for uninspiring football and perceived lack of fan connection; away-fan booing is treated as a warning sign.
- The bigger structural issue is Spurs’ lack of consistent club culture/philosophy from the top, with managers changing styles (Conte, Ange, Frank, etc.).
- Giving a manager time is right, but only if the right person is chosen; the hosts see “no green shoots.”
- Forest’s improvement under Sean Dyche is presented as especially worrying.
Notable examples
- Brentford and Slavia Prague games are re-evaluated as possibly inflated by weak opposition.
- Forest game is cited as the regression point; Dyche’s defensive-line aggression is highlighted.
- Player discussion includes Archie Gray, Xavi Simons, Javi Simons, Kudus, Palhinha, and the need for more attacking “duels” style—contrasted with Spurs fans’ preference for flair.
- Christmas: pigs in blankets are the must-have side; debate on how many could be eaten.

1:50Jack:hello everybody welcome back to rule the roost podcast billy are you like are you this time of year do you get excited about christmas Are you one of those that the bigger boys will tell to grow up? Mate, I get very excited about Christmas. I obviously work in a primary school, so constantly battling it from about the middle of November onwards and then get straight into it. Yeah, proper. The only problem is this year there's a Grinch that's stealing my Christmas by the name of Thomas Frank. So I'm trying to focus on Christmas rather than the chaos at our football club. frank rampus there you go man frank um what's your favorite what's your favorite carol you got if you're in a school it's all the christmas carols isn't it or is it like a secular school i guess nowadays maybe yeah i like do you know what i like um a couple of years ago we did um i had to sort of helm a a christmas candlelight concert thing and we did a like an acapella version of mary's boy child which is an absolute banger so I like to do the classic yeah Boney M that's my favourite I like to move away from the traditional carols and then go for like a classic yeah a bit of Boney M for sure what about you what's your fave that's a big question mate that's a big question I posed it to you didn't I it's easy it's easy asking other people
3:16Jack:I do like Boney M to be fair it is a banger what you've got to come is which I'm experiencing currently is, you know, my daughter's just been in a nativity. So I had my first experience of being like... That's quite nice. I imagine that's very sweet. She bottled it, right? She got the big one. She got the job of Mary. And they said to her, you have to do like a surprise face. She said, no, I'm not doing that. So she bottled it. So it went to a trailer. Just, you know, didn't like the director's vision. I was going to say, I was going to ask if you were one of those pushy dads that would be kicking off, being like, why isn't she Mary?
3:53Jack:What's going on? Yeah, she completely bottled it, mate. That's Tottenham, mate. Tottenham DNA. Tottenham DNA, yeah. Favourite, I do like Boney M. I like a bit of Shaking Stevens, mate. I do like a bit of Shaking Stevens. I like the one of McCartney as well. Do you know, I'll tell you a rogue one, Spaceman Came Travelling. I like that one as well. That is an absolute banger. Considered somewhat sacrilegious by some. so you know don't want to offend anybody at this time of year well you can't say Christmas these days can you no you can't festive holiday season that's it the holiday season god I've got to start the pod all over again haven't I everyone will be offended can you tell them we don't really want to talk about a Christmas special that's it can you tell them we don't really want to talk about Spurs Bill ah yes just just yeah it's just difficult to see the upside at the moment isn't it yeah I did a um so I did a pre I got asked to come on a Liverpool pod and do a preview of that called Harry and uh I sort of afterwards after I finished recording I realized that I'd just actually been like seeking some form of therapy from somebody outside the Spurs bubble for a while he uh yeah I probably I probably won't be sharing that one because it was quite negative for me I do appreciate but he didn't the funny thing is he didn't quite realize yeah his sort of take on it all was uh so you know you're in a sort of fairly bad patch of form right now and uh I was trying to make the point to him no have you seen actually how bad we are and he he didn't number one he didn't realize like really where we were in the table he just sort of assumed Spurs were yeah having a bit of a rough start to the season and also he didn't realize all the context that you know we basically don't have shots on target anymore um and he found it quite staggering i think it's going under the radar a little bit isn't it because we're like on paper to the outside view like we don't look that horrendously bad like we're 11th or whatever a few points off top four but if you actually watch it week in week out it is harrowing and then i can i kind of get this impression that people watch us when their team plays us and think oh my god they are absolutely horrific and i think like you feel that um usually that kind of sentiment is maintained for like just arsenal and chelsea games or we were rubbish and then arsenal fans are like jesus i didn't realize they were that bad but now like fulham and forest fans are thinking as well i was like god you know were you were you were you pretty shocked by the sort of the downturn again against forest because it felt like you went into that forest game with a starting 11 that we'd all really been sort of asking for for quite a while um it looked progressive it looked like we were gonna take the game to forest and i do truly feel like spurs did try to for 10 minutes or so at the start of the game and then we just reverted to type where it felt like we couldn't we just couldn't get anything going we couldn't muster any sense of you know a move going forward any sort of attacking pattern um and it just didn't feel like there was an awful lot of spirit there from the team i was actually really i was really quite annoyed by the the by the players themselves um against forest but i appreciate that a lot of that also probably comes from thomas frank himself um i guess yeah back to my original question but were you were you surprised by by how that had gone after you know a positive couple of weeks at least yeah because I've you know I hate being negative I hate it and I was really trying to cling on to those positives of Thomas Frank that we saw in that week but now I look back it's probably like um like an Empress new closing is it where I was looking way too hard for things that probably weren't actually there like I thought you know the Brentford and the Slavia Prague game were fine.
7:45They were slightly enjoyable, good performances. Looking back now, I probably have to question the quality of the opposition. That Slavia Prague game, I was there for that. Slavia Prague had quite a few chances in that game. Luckily, it was absolutely terrible. I was going into that game thinking, right, at least we're attacking now. At least we're making chances. and then at least he settled on the team because one of my biggest problems has been you know I think he's over rotated at times because no one's been able to bring a relationship together but then he's kind of he stuck with the same team for Brentford which is I think one of the first times he's done that this season um two Premier League games back to back with the same team you know Xavi is playing which I want Archie Gray is playing which I want I think he's you know been really good obviously until the Forest game where the incident happened and then yeah it was just back to square one I feel like we've gone and regressed even further now because if he settled on a team and they're still putting in this kind of performance then that's worrying because at least before we had the excuse of well he doesn't quite know his team yet who knows what's going on but now he does know his team and we're still getting this and um yeah it was just harrowing and I I think it's a really interesting question because you know does the blame square um solely on Thomas Frank and of course it doesn't like There's so much mess to untangle at our club still.
9:09You know, I still imagine that we've got years of shadow of Daniel Levy and the sort of mishaps of our club over the last 10, 15 years that will always shadow our club for the foreseeable future. And part of that is just the player recruitment has not been good enough. And you can see now we've got such an unbalanced squad still and we're only slowly addressing it. And it will take a few windows to get out of the end of it. But I don't know. I just thought that was so unbelievably uninspiring. and the big thing for me that's coming out of it is that, you know, Sean Dyche took over that Forest team, like, in a much smaller timeframe than Thomas Frank has had.
9:43And he managed to get a performance out of that Forest team, who I think man for man, they've got some good players and don't forget their midfield is definitely better than ours. But, you know, he's managing to get more of a tune out of a Forest squad, which is worrying for me than Thomas Frank has managed to get out of us in six months.
9:58Jack:Do you think it is worth factoring in? Because I've sort of been blinging on about this after the game. Do you think it is a worthwhile consideration that Forrest do have a kind of weird agenda against us? Do you know what I mean? I sort of likened it to the face on the dartboard after Morgan Gibbs-White, and I think they've always been a bit weird about us anyway, haven't they? Definitely, and I was listening to you say that, and I think it's definitely true, especially obviously after the summer. I think the only problem with that is we're at the stage now where almost every team that we play is the same.
10:29I know, right? I don't know what it is, but everyone is... Liverpool will probably be the same at the weekend just because, you know... It's just what they do, isn't it? Yeah, Liverpool hate us. Water is wet, Liverpool beat Tottenham. Yeah, there's a drama. And then after that, we've got Brentford with the Thomas Frank drama. Everyone that we ever play is going to have something against us. We seem to be that team for a lot of teams now.
10:53Jack:Fernando Miguel Carvalho commented on the last pod, the noise around Thomas Frank is pathetic, to be honest. The guys lost seven games in 25 this season whilst having over 70 goal contributions out injured. What are we doing? I mean, I do think it is a worthwhile consideration again. Yep, that Slanky, Madison, Kulisewski are out. Sonner's left. We have added Randall Kolomwani and Javi Simons to this side and Mohamed Kudus. So that should be more goal contributions to be fair, Fernando. So, yeah, I know they'll take a bit of time to settle and everything. But still, you know, I guess to his wider point, you know, it's early days in Thomas Frank's tenure.
11:39Do you think – I've done it, mate.
11:42Jack:I've done it. Look, you know, I've chatted to you about it. I've chatted to Phil, plenty of other people who I talked to about Spurs on the reg who we all kind of have that sort of knowing look to each other as in like, it's not really working, is it? But is that really the basis by which to sort of bin off a manager and pretty much a whole coaching team that we've just signed in the summer for 25, 30 million pounds? Or do you think we really do have to just ride this out? Even though we can sort of say anecdotally, I don't see any green shoots from this. There's nothing good coming from this.
12:18Jack:That maybe there actually is and we just have to try and get on board with it. because this is one of the things that was sort of posed to me by Harry, who I spoke to for his Liverpool pod. Yesterday, he was sort of saying, do you not think maybe you do just need to take a bit of a step back and appreciate that it might just take a bit of time to overturn perhaps the negative spiral that the team got in? I'm not saying this is a thing about Andrew and I'm just talking about whatever happened. the negative spiral that the team got into last season, that it will take some time to reverse that a bit, that we are just relying a bit too much on gut feelings and, you know, whatever it is, to just say that this simply isn't working.
13:06I think the problem is that Thomas Frank is facing this. He doesn't really seem to have maintained any kind of connection with the fans whatsoever, the fan base. And I think that's born out of, firstly, that ridiculous period that we had a few weeks ago where every single question seems to be about the fans booing and all that nonsense that the players are doing, the stupid thing where they walk off together at the same time. The booing situation, I think, became such a big deal and perpetuated by the players and managers constantly talking about it as well. I think they spoke about it way too much, that he's kind of lost any kind of momentum in terms of connectivity with the fans.
13:42That's coupled now by obviously being booed off by the away fans at the weekend, which I think is a real sign that once the away fans sort of turn on you, I think you're in trouble. And I think in the context of Tottenham at the moment, where Man City, Dortmund at home, two massive games, are both on general sale. The Champions League game, with Reimund Son returning, had 47 ,000 people turning up to it. I think we're at a point at the moment where fans just are not turning up to games. I think that once that starts happening, it's a real worry for the Tottenham board I think so I think he'd be owed he'd probably have a lot more time on it and you know in real terms if there was a bit of connection with the fans there or there was a little bit more you know in real terms it's the first time in my lifetime that I certainly since moving into the stadium my Tottenham fans are just not turning up to games at the moment it's that bad and I don't blame Thomas Frank Solu for that I think you know the much much more important point there is that tickets are too expensive um they're massively overpriced season tickets, you know, the context of the country at the moment and the economic context of the country are much more important reasons.
14:48But at the same time, if the football is boring like it is at the moment and we're being slated as fans, fans are just rightly failing at the moment, I'm not even going to bother. So that's a bit of a worry. And then I think, I do think the idea of giving a manager time is definitely the right thing to do and we should be doing it. but at the same time if that time is given to the wrong man, clearly the wrong man then it's just a waste of like double the amount of time, do you know what I mean? Now if we do get a next hire we're wasting time already if Thomas Frank is the wrong guy and at the moment as you mentioned about the green shoots I don't see anything at the moment that's making me think right this is the guy to give this extra money to, this is the guy to give this extra time to if the Lewis family have these ambitions where they talk about and that they're happy to rattle off to Athletic that they're going to be ambitious in the January window.
15:39This is the first time, potentially ever, that a manager is going to get proper backing at Tottenham. And is Thomas Frank really deserving of that? At the moment, I haven't seen anything to suggest that he is. But I do admire the idea of giving a manager time. I'm just really... It's a real nagging feeling that we're just giving it to the completely wrong guy here.
15:59Jack:If we do get rid of him, I do really want to see Spurs stay away from I want to see him stay away from Glasner, I think he's off to Manchester United anyway, it seems to be the world's worst kept secret That would be the same problems right I think what I've learnt from this this period it's a lesson that we've learnt before is that Tottenham, base level Tottenham have to be playing attacking football right it just doesn't work for our fan base if they don't you can't get away with it unfortunately and I thought about why that is and I think some fans are just conditioned differently. Tottenham, we are conditioned to watch attacking football.
16:35We've had it all of our, at the best periods of all of our lives anyway. There's always been a Giannolo or a Bale that we've been brought up with or a Swan and Kane. We need attacking football. We're brought up on it and if we don't get it, then there's no patience in the family. We saw it with Nuno before. We saw it with Mourinho. And I know that, technically speaking, these owners didn't hire Frank as more of a Levy thing but I just kind of feel like a pragmatic manager like Frank and Glasner is pretty much the same as that just doesn't work with our fan base right no and you
17:08Jack:know I don't mind that like I think it's one of those things that will be used as a stick to beat Spurs fans with either from the outside or perhaps sometimes internally but I think it's good that you know in in this day and age if you like where it is harder and harder to forge a kind of cohesive social identity if you like um that is perhaps in a more old-fashioned way should we say i don't mind that spurs fans have something to cling on to because it's the sort of stuff that you know liverpool fans get lauded for um people say oh you can't do this type of stuff in liverpool you know they won't take that on the cop type thing do you know i mean i don't mind the fact that people will say you know we we had a go at antonio conte even you know one of the you know let's be honest, one of the greatest managers in football right now operating.
18:00Jack:And we still didn't take to him for the same sort of reason. So I don't mind us having standards. I don't mind us having a clear sense of the identity of the club and what it is that we want to see from them. And it does, you know, I think that is, that's ultimately the thing with Frank right now, isn't it? Because I think everyone can sort of take a step back and say, look rationally if we at least felt that something was going to happen we might be able to get on board with this and that's kind of that's you know I do think that's why Postacoglu got the amount of room that he did because people could see at least the intent was there when it clicks kind of became the meme didn't it you know when it when it clicks will will be good if we get back to what it was like on those first 10 games and we we I think we did give him a pass to some pretty poor performances at times right because because the majority of us wanted to believe in it and you know i i did for a long time it took me quite a long time before i hit that point where i was like you know i sort of want to see him go it's harder to do that with frank isn't it when the when the form doesn't look particularly great um because the the the problem with it is right is if we are going to sort of sacrifice attacking ideals attacking principles on the basis that well we're going to be more solid and then when we're not more solid it's it's it it it's tough isn't it you know that that forest game right after say newcastle a couple of good results you know following the newcastle game as well that forest game should have been at least at least a draw you know we should be we should be going there seeing off a pretty hostile environment sticking one up Maranakis and just saying look 1-1 we'll leave with that we'll leave with a point handy all our problems this year they're what they're 16th 17th you know they're we just got battered again they look like they look like a Champions League side against us that's what we made them look like you know I think the real worry is when you listen to obviously I mean I don't mean to discredit you but I feel like we're the same in this way I certainly am anyway but when I watch football I don't notice like the tactical things I have to watch someone else cleverer afterwards to explain them to me yeah I just kind of see them as like two teams I don't really see but when I saw John McKenzie saying that essentially Sean Dyche pushed his defensive line up because he knew that we'd be so deep I think like when Sean Dyche is like planning to attack more than you like that's when you're in a real worry I didn't obviously didn't notice that myself but like he moved his whole team on the height of the line of his whole defensive line up against us to be like more aggressive and front foot.
20:46It's like when Sean Dunst is being more front foot than you, like that is a real worry, right?
20:53Jack:Mate, I mean, just, you know. And I think our bigger problem, right, is this, like going back to like bigger picture stuff, is that we've kind of chosen Thomas Frank to reset the culture, which they keep talking about in The Athletic at the moment about it. And, you know, they want to give someone time to reset the culture. I think our problem is our culture is coming from the managers that we hire and or the sort of thing where we because we don't have any sort of clear leadership and direction as a football club. I think what you know in an ideal world in a much better world the sort of the culture and the philosophy of the club would come from the top and you'd have like I use Brighton as an example because it doesn't really matter who the Brighton manager is right.
21:35They always seem to hire someone who plays the same kind of football, the same kind of philosophy. They develop young players, they sell them for loads of money, and then they lose a manager because he probably goes on to better things because he's done a good job. And then they get another manager who, generally speaking, no one's ever heard of, but he seems to do exactly the same job. And they're really, really good at that. Tottenham, our culture seems to be dictated by whoever our manager is. We get Conte and we go to wingbacks. We get Anjan. We go to inverted fullbacks. We get Thomas Frankian.
22:02We go to this kind of pragmatism. and like there's nothing coming from the top at all. It should be, I think it should be like, you know, having a really strong director of football and really strong football culture, it doesn't really matter who the manager is. The manager comes in to sort of, you buy the players for the team, not for the manager. And we seem to be the other way around. Like we're sort of buying, and what happens with us is we have a manager for two years maximum. We buy them a load of players. The next manager comes in, doesn't want half of them, doesn't use half of them. And we're seeing that kind of situation now with Thomas Frank.
22:33and I think it's because there's no sort of strong leadership culture at the top of our football club it kind of just we kind of flap around from thing to thing shiny thing to shiny thing where it should be sort of dictated from the top right and I really hope the Lewis family of this you know these infinite guys that they keep hiring from Man City and this this and this if they're going to do anything they need to sort of address that and culture should be coming from the very top of our football club rather than just sort of going from manager to manager sort of I mean if you look at the sort of history of the last five years going from Mourinho to Conte to Nuno to Ange to Frank.
23:08There's no consistency in style there whatsoever. It's just random selection of managers. And I think that's a much bigger problem than we have at the moment than just saying, well, we should give Thomas Frank time and get the next game. We need some serious questions at the top, right?
23:22Jack:You don't wash your jersey during a win streak. You don't switch seats when your team's up big. And you definitely don't shave during the playoffs. When things are working, you don't change them. That's why when you drink Jägermeister, you drink it ice cold. Anything else? Well, that'd just be bad luck. Drink it cold or don't drink it at all. Jägermeister. Damn, that's cold. Drink responsibly. Jägermeister liqueur, 35 % alcohol by volume. Imported by Masked Jägermeister, U.S. White Plains, New York.

The Lewis Family Toenic. to Lewis family, but it is still Enoch. Yeah, exactly. I think they definitely decided not to use the word Enoch, right? 100%. It's very, very deliberate. It's definitely very deliberate. We've obviously just brought in another suit from the City group and look, maybe he'll do a good job, but I don't know.
25:17Jack:I just, it's this type of thing. It's this type of approach from Spurs right now, isn't it? Where it just seems to be, let's just keep hiring this line of people to be more accountable than I am for my job and hope that we can turn this around. But the thing is, I'm trying not to be too cynical about it. This is it. Like you say, I want to be positive about Spurs. I want to look at this as a new opportunity for Spurs to start to turn things around, for Spurs to operate differently in the transfer window. Signing someone like Xavi Simmonds is promising. It's a start, right? I'm sure he is on a massive salary.
25:54Jack:probably on a salary that Daniel Levy would not have paid for when he was in charge of the football club. So I would imagine there's things like that. There's definitely a change. There's already talk that we're in for Semenyo and whether or not, you know, we feel that we should be, his Arsenal affiliation and all this type of stuff. Precisely. We're being aggressive. The right noises are coming out. And, you know, if they follow up on that, you know, that's the important part. um but i just can't shake the idea that you know this is to the group of people that have been daniel levy's boss for two decades um and it's very easy now to be like well we're not we're not like him we're not like the old guy it's the you know it's the it's the hot dog suit isn't it we're looking for the people responsible for this um it's it i don't know i want to i want to be positive about it i i don't want to spend and i get it i don't want people to tune into this podcast and every single week until Thomas Frank gets sacked or doesn't I'm debating his future but it is it's obviously a talking point right now we obviously have to discuss the fact that Spurs are not very good at all not very good and our baseline is is really quite bad um because we've been clinging on to the fact that our away form is quite good and if that forest game is is anything to go by, then maybe the wheels are coming off of that as well.
27:18But I just think like with the... Well, firstly, when you're in a negative mindset, every game looks difficult, doesn't it? But with Liverpool at home and Palace away the next two, it could get real messy. Like there's obviously, you never know. We could be speaking in two weeks' time after two wins and everything's incredible again. But, you know, you'd have to say at the current form, it's unlikely. And then I'm starting to even look at that Brentford game and the Sunderland at home game and think, And, oh, my God, anything could happen in that. Now, Brentford are terrible at the moment, but at home against Thomas Frank in a night game, they're going to be well up for it.
27:53So, yeah, I think there's a lot coming over the hill, isn't there? You really need to get a result in the next three, four Premier League games, otherwise I think we might be in big trouble.
28:04Jack:Like I said, there's only Liverpool next, mate. So, you know, no need to worry. Don't worry, they're out of their crisis now. They've sold for that. yeah um d boshoff um said wtf even is a frank player what does it look like and i guess that is that is an interesting question to a degree um what would you say well what would you say from that well he um he in almost every interview that he does he talks about jewels doesn't he loves that He loves that word, the word duels and... On grass. On grass. On grass and competing and stuff. So I think he just likes massive, massive... I think Frank is very, very similar to Arteta.
28:50I think they have very, very, very similar principles in that they're all about winning duels and making yourself competitive across the pitch and set pieces and trying to gain any kind of advantage that you can over the opposition by stealing a few yards from a throw-in or something like that. I think that's how he views football. Obviously, it's not how I like to watch football, but at the same time, at the moment, it's probably the best team in the country are doing it. So you can't say that it's an unsuccessful way to play if you can get it right, because Arsenal are doing it every week and they are currently the best team in the league.
29:28Hopefully, that won't last very long. Currently, they are. But I just think he likes massively physical players that win duels and stuff. We know that two of the signings that he made, definitely his number one choices are Kudus and Palinha. And they're both really, really good at keeping on the ball and winning duels as well. So I think a Thomas Frank player is just like a massive, massive strong guy who just loves winning duels. But going back to what I said earlier, if you ask a Tottenham fan to describe their kind of player they like, I don't think you'd have many that would suggest that. Tottenham like flair players, don't we, generally speaking?
30:08Jack:Yeah. It's the Madison thing, isn't it? As he was saying on Monday Night Football the other day, he'd always just sort of seen himself even as a Tottenham player, despite not being a Spurs fan. And I did feel that from him. I don't think he's just playing lip service there. Yeah, me too. I got what he meant. And I think lots of us had always said that, hadn't we, before he did sign for Spurs where it looked like it was even a possibility, even when most of us hated him as well and thought he was an Arsenal fan. I mean, I've said it all the time, but I do feel for Thomas Frank in that way because if Maddison was playing, I think we miss him so much.

30:42I really, really do. I think if he was, if he had a fit James Maddison and I do understand that argument that if he had a fit Kulicevski, a fit Maddison, maybe to a lesser extent a fit Solanke, I'm not 100 % convinced on at the moment just because, you know, Mawani is, I think, I rate Mawani. But if we had the other two, I think, wow, it would be, it definitely would be a different team. But as you say, I think if we're talking about Frank players,
31:07Jack:I think Frank would love, I think most managers love Kulisevsky to be fair, but I think he'd love Kulisevsky. Like Kulisevsky in those games where he can just drag us over the line, you know, he's kind of got that. When I was watching that Forest game and we've seen it, you know, Fulham, Bournemouth, loads of times this season, particularly Arsenal-Chelsea, there's just no one taking the reins really, were there at all? And Kuliseski did that so much last season. Even when we were really bad on the range, Kuliseski would sometimes drag us out of the game just by literally single-handedly. Really, I've missed that.
31:41But at the same time, I don't know. There's absolutely nothing on his return at all, is there?
31:50Jack:You see Jamal Musiala's already back in training. He dislocated an ankle and broke a leg at the same time, and he's back in training before just a knock. Kulisevsky. I've got a bit of Lapland ITK for you here. One of my best friends met Kulisevsky in Lapland. I got a picture of his kid. Literally last week, Kulisevsky took a picture of his kids, and he asked Kulisevsky when he'd be back, and Kulisevsky said, I had no idea. Oh, man. And there's all those like... Straight from the horse's mouth in Lapland. Straight from the reindeer's mouth. So was it Lapland where he was? Because Tom Foynes was saying, you know, it's great seeing a player like Kulisevsky who's been out for however long, like diving into snow, jumping off of a balcony or something.
32:34Jack:I don't know. He's like, please stop Instagramming pictures of you walking down a glass frozen stairway. Oh, mate. Yeah, it must have been probably the same place, I'm guessing. Shafi Ali says, I think the Brendan Rodgers obsession was mostly a Levy thing. So I doubt we will be looking at him. He's also just gotten a new job. He's gotten a job for Al-Kazia. I did see that. I thought, thank God, man. Thank God. Yeah, I know. Because I think we all know. Look, I don't particularly like Brendan Rodgers. I don't like him as a bloke. I think we know we probably would. We probably would, through gritted teeth, have a period where we would say, it's actually quite fun.
33:18Jack:the football he's playing is quite good. I was going to say, as much as I just said that, I think if he came in right now, we'd probably massively upturn him from him, which is worrying, isn't it? But the thing that always used to happen with Brayden Rogers is it would just drastically fall off a cliff, wouldn't it? Like, he would have a season and a bit of it looking really good. Look at that Leicester side, you know? Yeah. And now look at where they are. Kind of double-dick. He's an interesting case, like, you know, you know you kind of talk about connectivity to managers like on the on the pitch is brilliant like um plays really good football attacking football seems to do well wherever he goes but just a bit of an arsehole isn't he like you can't really get behind him that much he's just such a an arse really remember when obviously he had that really good Liverpool side and they nearly did it they nearly got it over line Gerrard slipped and everything um and they I think it was BT Sports at the time who did a documentary they went into his house and he had a painting of himself in his living room didn't he above his fireplace yeah he did that thing with the envelope the brent thing with the envelopes in the like unbelievable for anyone who wasn't aware he basically to motivate all of his team he said that he's got uh he's got some names in a in a brown paper envelope that are going to be sold he's going to get rid of these players if they don't buck their ideas up he's not going to reveal them but all will become clear in time and then and then the grand reveal was him saying there were no names in the envelope um which yeah oh dear my favorite thing looking back at that as a period as well heady days wasn't it mate those are the days my favorite thing looking back on that as a period was that we must have been it must have been why we were terrible because i remember literally a reporter said to him and obviously it became quite a famous quote and that reporter said to him um you know everyone thinks that you're going to do a Spurs.
35:11He's like, no, we're not going to do a Spurs. And then he ended up doing a Spurs. I don't even, I can't remember the exact context of what a Spurs was back then, but I think it was just like buying a load of players and bottling the league.
35:21Jack:But he was like... That was it, that was it, yeah. I remember him specifically saying, we're not going to do a Spurs. It's like, how are we such a thing back then that we were like a question, like we were used as like the barometer of messing up. Mate, we ate good though then. After they messed up, do you know what I mean? He said he wasn't going to do a Spurs and then did a Spurs. I think your tweet at the time was Brendan Rodgers saying he's not going to do a Spurs then doing a Spurs is more Spurs than anything Spurs have ever done which was like yeah I can't remember exactly what being a Spurs was it just like buying the bail money?
35:53That was it
35:54Jack:it was a magnificent seven who ended up being alright to be fair Andy Caron and stuff like that that was just horrific wasn't it it's really interesting listen to or read how to win the Premier League Ian Graham it's by Flav always goes on about it that's where I was listening to he was our stats nerd and then went on to become Liverpool's stats nerd and it was very interesting hearing a lot about the internal wrangles between him and Brendan Rodgers in particular who thought stats stuff was all woke nonsense I remember being on holiday and I watched the game before that they beat Chelsea. Did this not slip now?
36:38And I thought, oh my God, they're actually going to do it. To be fair to Brendan Rodgers, that side was unbelievable. It was amazing. Sterling and Sturridge.
36:48Jack:Suarez. Suarez. They were absolutely unreal, to be fair. And they obviously had one of the most historic bottlings of all. But wow, that was... I remember watching that game thinking, fuck, they've done it. They've actually won the bloody league. And obviously the Chelsea game happened. And I hated them so much at that time as well. It was all those, yeah, I just, I could, I couldn't stand them. But now, you know, not bothered. We're too far away from them to really care that much about. Backus, here we go. Backus says, too much glazing of grey among podcasters. Don't see what I'm constantly told about him, to be honest.
37:27Jack:You all wanted grey as a six and there, you've had it. um i don't get i just i think i've always sort of maintained that he's not doing anything spectacular right now but he's 19 years old or 18 no 19 isn't he now um 19 years old and he just seems like he's got a really high technical flaw and i quite like him he's going to make mistakes but i don't i don't think it needs to be is aren't you quite a culture war is it is that are we on this territory now i don't get it yeah i don't think i don't think it's quite on that far i hope it doesn't stretch into that realm but um it's just like the classic thing isn't it of like um i mean you know i've been i've been desperate for any positivity this this season because it's been so abject and um so depressing and um gray coming into the side playing well for a couple of games i was like right that's something to cling on to at least as you know and i tweeted straight before the game um you know really good to see chavvy playing fantastic to see gray play and that's you know at the moment that's kind of all i'm looking for on the team those two players and i think it's just good to be able to help me hang your hat on like a young player isn't it spurs what we one of the things that we like doing and um obviously then he goes and has that incident which i know that you know people on twitter have been debating whose fault is it entirely is it entirely gray's fault i'm not going to go into that because pretty much everything about it has been said but um at the same time like it's going to happen with a young player right and it's just because like this is he's had one one incident of sort of like blame and now now suddenly oh i told you guys he wasn't he was rubbish like i've seen people look like comparing him to skip and winks and stuff it's like he's one of the most highly regarded youngsters in the world that's actually true it's a death knell comparison to skip or winks i was quite like i was quite like skip as well to be fair but you know it's still funny carol winks and skip that's it isn't it once you get those comparisons it's over but um you know he's where does mason where does mason figure in all that yeah i guess he was he's a bit more combative wasn't he but it's just i it was funny when our academy was literally just churning out the exact same material for like years but i don't think i don't think archie gray is similar to those players at all i think he's got a bit more about him and obviously he can he's really good because he can he's really versatile as well and yeah I just I just kind of think like I don't think anyone's glazing him they're just sort of you know excited by a young player and that's all right I think can I just in my my sort of I'm assuming that Bacchus because he's saying glazing I'm assuming he's of a certain age he's probably in his 20s right and I I do think my my one old man shouts at cloud thing right that I would say to as a generalization to a lot of younger people is it's all right to like stuff not everything has to be cringe not everything is like glazing it's just right it's just an appreciation of something all right that's it that's what that's my one you know i'm a man of a certain age now which is mad it's mad how quickly it catches up on you but still it does you're allowed to like things people are allowed to sort of say they like something all right it's fine it's okay and i have kind of lost faith in the thomas frank project but i'm desperate for things to cling on to because i hate being like overly negative all the time and what i'm trying to cling on to at the moment is chubby and archie gray and like yeah not a lot there's not a lot to cling on to guys so just allow us a couple of things to have at least please you know if that sort of relentlessly backing a young player who was really really highly regarded in a cross football ball then if that's glazing then so be it matt martin um has said i do think this team will look better with solanke up front we'll hold and use the ball better it bounces back too quickly um i'd also give tell a go on the left and mawani a go as the striker richardison is a huge problem if he isn't scoring offers very little else bad touch intelligence and never wins duels um you You tweeted something the other day saying about Thomas Frank's misuse of Matthew's tail.
41:37Jack:It is quite a weird one, isn't it? Because he looks positive every time he comes onto the pitch for my money. Yeah, that's the problem for me. There's no sort of meaningful meritocracy about it all. So he came on against... Did he start against Man United? He came on against Man United, didn't he? He came on against Man United, scored a really, really good goal. and then gets sort of forgotten about for a string of games. Then I think the next game he gets no minutes at all. And then I think there's a couple of games and then the Newcastle game, he comes on as a sub again. And he has a hand in both goals against Newcastle coming in from the left.
42:18Next game against Brentford, gets at zero minutes. Then gets called up into the Champions League squad. Comes on against Savio Prague, does all right again, does pretty well. and then gets dropped for the next game. It's just, I don't know. He doesn't seem to be getting a fair crack of a whip, and that's fine. You know, it's okay to say that he's maybe not our best option, but I think he deserves a start on the left anyway, because every time he comes on as a sub on the left, I think we improve from what I've seen. So I definitely think he deserves a shot there. It's kind of also just a thing like the way that, you know, we bought him after, you know, he was sort of second string and buy-in, and he came to Tottenham to get more minutes, and then we bought him and then kind of abandoned him straight away.
42:59And we obviously immediately took him out of the Champions League squad, which must have been really difficult to take. But I think his mentality is really, really strong. And he never sort of, he's never, you know, a lot of our talk at the moment of Mung Tottenham is body language and mentality. I think Tal is a prime example of how to do it right. He's always positive. He's always like really trying to make things happen on the pitch. Mentality-wise, we saw him last season a lot, sort of bridging gaps with the fans when the fans were arguing. he's not afraid to do some really big things like go over to the away end and apologise and things like that so I really really like him and I think he is making things happen on the pitch as well I would like to see him because I think one thing that we haven't properly one thing Thomas Brink hasn't properly sorted yet is the left hand side again Odebay you could probably make the same case for he seems to be come on against Man United turns the game on his head then gets dropped the next game sometimes we in the beginning of the season I used to see Xavi up there.
43:55Thank God that experiment seems to have ended. And now he's got to play Mawani there, which I think Mawani is our best striker. I know Richarlison is scoring goals, but against Forrest as a prime example, is if he's not scoring them, he just offers absolutely nothing whatsoever. So I would like to see Tell on the left and Mawani on the right at some point. Maybe against Liverpool, maybe I don't find a leaf. You probably want someone like Richarlison there just because Richarlison has that mentality where he can make things happen against Liverpool. But I would like to see Tell on the left at some point.
44:24and to the Solanke bit I'm just a bit worried about Solanke I kind of I'm kind of thinking that when he comes back he might just be an absolute shout out of him for myself just because it's been such a massive injury like it's been almost what eight months now without him or something like that it's just I'm I'm really worried that we're not going to see the same Dominic Solanke again
44:43Jack:It's hard to see a world where he ever plays football again isn't it? Right now it is It's how it feels Yeah because frankly he seems to get pissed off every time someone asks about it at the press conference but there's no kind of it's the spikiest you see him isn't it did you see him in the last one he said i'm getting bored of talking about this like i'll just talk about him when you know i've got an actual update to give you which yeah yeah it's really strange injury like i think i i know that there's lots of there's lots of stuff online about which i don't want to give any credit to but um i now just i i now have the belief that i think it's just a really really long-term injury and it's just like apparently there's something that they've discovered in his ankle that was like they thought that they'd fixed it but they hadn't and then it managed to get worse and it's just like apparently even now he's like two, three months away so it's just a horrifically long-term injury and I'm worried that we won't see the same Dominic Slanky when he comes back I'm not sure that player that we saw last season would be great if we had him but I don't know if he might it might be like a significant impact on his football inability maybe What if you could have the most reliable Wi-Fi at the same price for five years?

47:00Jack:Terms apply. Learn more at go.amex.com. Well, let's lift the gloom on that one a bit. Herbie King, 74 on Instagram says, what are Billy's absolute no compromise must have Christmas dinner accoutrement?
47:17I'm just, I'm a simple guy when it comes to Christmas dinner. I just like the, I think my ultimate answer to that is obviously pigs in blankets. They're just unbelievable, aren't they? Like have to be number one. I went to Brown's and Rice Up yesterday and just got a plate of pigs in blankets on the side. You just cannot beat it, can you? and I've always wondered I've always wondered this question which I'll throw to your listeners as well while they're listening to this is how many in one sitting how many pigs in blankets do you reckon you could eat back to back I reckon I reckon I could I reckon I could get near the triple figures if I was only eating those I reckon I could take on 100 what about you
48:00Jack:oh mate yeah so we're talking about the mini I'm not talking about like the woke new ones where they're like quite big and like you know well this is it this is what this is what charlotte's got in for christmas these like big long ones i'm like what's going on woke woke pigs in blankets do you know i mean no no it's the tiny miniature sausages covered in bacon that's what the dinky the dinky weenies um i don't know is you i mean we you genuinely are talking tens aren't you like yeah no lies talking 30 40 before it's quite a lot of salt do you know i mean i think that's the thing it would it would get on top of you if i sat there what have you are you allowed are you allowed I'm not very good at I just ketchup or gravy you don't have ketchup of a roast dinner though do you Bill no no no it's not there on the dinner table right because you know I'm not I'm not taking that type of thing yeah no pigs and blankets is a good one do you have turkey on the day oh yeah you do in the middle classic turkey all the usual Christmas I was going to say because my my family's you know quite boring but you obviously have um a background of a couple of different countries you and charlotte do you have any like interesting like like um additions to the christmas dinner because my one of my my best mate has um his family thing is that they have cold baked beans of theirs blimey do you have any because you guys are a bit more cultured do you have any uh do you have any international additions to it actually no not really to be honest with you no it's quite interesting you do but no it's just it's just fairly standard on christmas day i mean this is this is a this is a cause for debate in our in our family um i mean my my family in particular actually they they just do chicken they don't do turkey you know that yeah none of them like it they all say it's too dry so they're just like let's just have a chicken instead it's uh you know it's it's a cause for a bit of consternation um charlotte's lot of very much turkey and she she finds it a bit weird when she comes to us you know you know they always say that like being in a long-term relationship is about dealing with how weird your your in-laws Christmases are I think I think she gets the she gets the worst end of the wedge on that one because she comes they're having a chicken what are they doing what's going on um but yeah no no no nothing in particular that's that I'm just trying to think now Yorkshire puddings no I don't I don't think we do i think my sister's always i already see that as more of like a roast sunday roasting yeah i don't think my mum really agrees with it so we tend not to but still i see that as more of like a where do you stand on uh like you know cauliflower cheese those sort of americanisms that are creeping in yeah you are that are you happy with that or you're not having it christmas um yeah i'm just traditional turkey potatoes brussels i don't eat brussels sprouts but my family will definitely do them.
50:59But carrots, that kind of thing, pretty boring. Traditional fare, really.
51:04Jack:I do like Brussels sprouts anyway, but I like those as well. People start doing them now. They all start fancying themselves as chefs. And instead of boiling up a load of soggy Brussels sprouts, it's doing them in a pan with chestnuts, a bit of pancetta. Lovely. Wallop. Can we just talk about this all day? I know. Talking about Clingon's positive, this is positive. my absolute favourite though probably in the wider context of football you can say that it's been ruined this year but I'm a massive Boxing Day fan that's my absolute favourite day of the year just having, I love the cold Christmas food the next day Tony Sopranoing it yeah exactly, I prefer that to the actual Christmas dinner having a cold turkey sandwich with a bit of a cheese board and then a full fixture of football but they've taken it away from us this year haven't they, one game on Boxing Day which is a disgrace well see this is what i was going to say though i don't know if the if the cheese board is an accoutrement but that that is that's genuinely my favorite part of christmas same without a doubt massive cheese board yeah like like gout inducing levels of cheese do you know just give me the lot stinking ones standard ones soft ones all of it i love it all no no problem saying i prefer that to a christmas dinner and that's yeah yeah yeah i'm with you on that mate i'm with you on that Ali Jamieson says if you could choose one fixture per year both home and away legs for no VAR what game would it be?
52:35Jack:What would work for and against us? I don't really know I don't really know what to say to that to be honest I guess my immediate thought is probably the North London Derby just because it would add a bit of drama to it and I don't know if there's any fixtures where we routinely get messed over by VAR I think Man City seems to be one which favours us of VAR, right? Just because we had that Champions League thing. I think there's maybe an Iheanacho goal, which got ruled out from offside. VAR as well. I think they made a couple down the year. And a Sterling one. Lucas Moura scored a header from a corner.
53:10I think they had a win and ruled out that day with VAR as well. So that one, I think we're generally favoured to. Obviously, the interesting one would be Liverpool because that VAR is probably the worst in Premier League history. That one in our favour as well. I don't know if there's any that we routinely have a disservice from in VAR. Maybe Newcastle, actually, I would immediately say, just because VAR seems to mess us up against Newcastle. We had the horrific one in the penalty this season, and that one where someone headed it onto Eric Dyer's hand, and he got a penalty as well. So maybe I'd say get rid of it for Newcastle and just try and beat them man for man.
53:49Jack:We've got – this is a good one. Fred on Twitter says, would you rather play Richarlison up front every game for a year or play Vicario in goal every game for a year? Good question. Well, I have to contextualise this to say my girlfriend is an absolutely gigantic Richarlison fan, so I can only answer with Vicario. I mean, I can only answer with Richarlison in the positive way. So I would go, I'd have to say, otherwise I would be killed over Christmas and say Richarlison up front. But have you, on a serious level, have you seen this thing where Paul O 'Keefe said that we are looking for goalkeepers?
54:26We've started looking for goalkeepers. What do you think about that?
54:29Jack:I mean, I think it's necessary, isn't it? It doesn't necessarily mean that Vicario is out the door straight away, but it does suggest that Kinski isn't particularly happy. Frank is as good as said that as well, hasn't he? Yeah, my friend Steve, And we talk about the negative of being Tottenham. I'm kind of over the Forest game. I kind of tend to get over these defeats really quickly now just because we're so used to it over the last few years. He sent me this video yesterday of the Callum Hudson-Odoi goal from a fan angle, from a fan that's sitting just in front of Callum Hudson-Odoi. And it's really, really damning.
55:11I'll send it to you after this. But you have to see this video of this. It just makes Vicario look so bad. The angle of the goal and where his starting point is and where the ball ends up going in, it just looks horrific, absolutely horrific from Vicario. It's just mental that it's managed to lob him from essentially... He's basically on the line himself at the start. So it just looks really, really bad. And it's just sick of it being a talking point now, really, isn't it? It's just sort of every game where you're kind of discussing the upsides of Vicario versus chucking a few in or whatever. and then if he's not doing that then he's shouting at the fans or he's very emotional and I think you know he does have some excellent qualities but I just think a real a real club of aspirations to sort of be at the very top level probably just goes right let's let's bend this off and try something new and I think Vicario probably wants that himself at the moment as well and if he can get a move to Inter you know fair play that's probably the
56:06Jack:best for everyone isn't it um there's a there's a good question here from Josh Pardy that says top five films of the year oh that is a really good question i did see i was um i was having a little look at the question yesterday i saw someone ask about the decades as well so i was i was thinking about that one i i do um i have i have started because obviously it's you know recording on december the 18th well i do always try and do a top ten so have you got your top five yet i was thinking about this i was thinking i've i i didn't actually see this question but i've written down i've started to make my top 10 i've got i've got four names on it at the moment i mean i'm definitely checking my my cinema watching has not been that good this year if i'm honest with you just you know mine hasn't been as good as it normally is but i'm trying to catch up now yeah i mean sinners is up there for me was brilliant um i always forget the name of it the paul thomas anderson film one battle after another is it my top five as well was probably up there um i'm trying to think about what else i've seen i really really enjoyed my current top four are one battle after a number number one sinners number two i found it really hard to put sinners number two just because i i absolutely adored it but one battle after another i think is one of the films that will probably be like one of those films that people will be talking about for a very long time so i begrudgingly put it at number one it was incredible according to imdb companion number one and two if i could i thought they're both absolutely incredible to be fair according to imdb companion was 2025 that i i have and i enjoyed that i quite like that film that was really good jack quaid um and then i've got sorry baby you've seen sorry do you see sorry baby no what's that that's really good it's about a um it's about um i forget the name of the of the the actor that's in it but it's it's just like one of those sort of american um humanistic dramas is about sort of a college student that gets kind of abused by a professor.
58:08Like really, really high level of drama, but really, really good. And I've also got my other top to make the top five. Have you seen The Battle of Wallace Island?
58:17Jack:No. That's absolutely incredible. You would absolutely love it as well. It's Tim Key. I'm sick.
58:26What's the name of the guy?
58:27Jack:I'm hearing good things about Train Dreams on Netflix. I've not seen that yet, but I've heard that's really, really good. no that's really good yeah the ballad of wallace island is uh tim key and i forget the name of the other guy i've seen the poster for this yeah it's like a really it's just like really good english film um that that's in there and then my number five is uh weapons which i absolutely loved as well oh yeah weapons weapons was decent the the thing about weapons for me is that i was instantly sort of not checked checked out it's the wrong word but like it lost all of the tension for me when it sort of did the reveal halfway through.
59:03Jack:And I won't spoil it for anybody, but it's one of those films. The mystery element was definitely the best part of it, wasn't it? Yeah, you get like two, so it's not a spoiler, but for anyone that's listening that hasn't seen it, you get two thirds of the way through the film and the final third of the film is basically showing you the other side of the story. So it's sort of explaining what the threat is and what's going on. And like you say, I just, I quite like the mystery of it. because at times there was some, you know, when she's asleep in the car is genuinely terrifying. It's one of the most horrific things I've actually ever seen on film from a tension perspective.
59:42Jack:It was brilliant. It was really, really well done. Oscar Perkins, isn't it? It's Weapons? What's his name? It's the guy that did... Oscar Perkins is in Weapons, isn't he? But it's not his film. He did The Monkey, I think, and another film that's just come out. he did Zach something his name is Zach Greger I think The Monkey was quite disappointing I thought I was actually quite looking forward to it it started off quite well and then it just got really stupid and he did oh what's that film Barbarian last year which is another brilliant film horrible and his next film he's doing Resident Evil which should be really good I like 28 Years Later I love that I'm just looking through my letterbox now that was up there for me yeah it was more like 28 days later versus 28 weeks later which was which was good i'm looking forward to the bone temple coming out the end of that film was like one of the most generally surprising things i've ever seen in cinema yeah yeah um now then now then is what i'll say to that one um yeah go on do as you because daniel j perma also said favorite film of every decade going back as far as you can be bothered i have to be honest i haven't done the work on this one mate so i'll let you take this one away i've just done um i've just done my lifetime basically so i've done 90s 2000s 2010s 2020 one thing i noticed about it is that all my answers are just like classic and then there's no like um i don't know if you ever see those lists where it's like the top 10 films of 2025 and it's like five films that no one's ever seen before and it's like come on my answers are very much film bro answers that everyone will probably say so then and there's no surprises here it's like but i do kind of think oh if you're talking about film of the decade they have to be like these big names so um and right so go into the 90s mate see if you have to choose one of these three because i can't pick between them i'll do that for all the decades i'll let you choose out of three because i've got three for each 90s silence the lambs jurassic park or the matrix oh mate um that those are my top three uh as i guess as a as a film i would have to say science of the lambs overall yeah yeah that was my that was why i put number one but i'm i'm on a personal level the matrix was a massive personal favorite of mine i absolutely drastic park for me in terms of like memories and all that type of thing yeah and 2000s you got top three of there will be blood no country for old men or spirited away again um i know people find it a bit hacked to say there will be blood now i know that's sort of the narrative is turned oh god these are just but i do i do think it's brilliant i do think it's brilliant i i get it i get it why do we always have to tell stories about powerful men and all that type of thing but it's good i i don't you know daniel day lewis people say he overacts i think it's really good i really like it i like I like him as Daniel Plainview.
1:02:38Jack:I've abandoned my child. I've abandoned my boy. I love it. Have you seen this, slight tangent, have you seen this Paul Dano thing that's got to happen at the moment? It's so, mate, there's something. Daniel Day-Lewis has gone to Instagram. It really warmed my heart. There is something that's happened at a party somewhere, isn't there? There must be. There must be. What's all the foot stuff as well? I see this. somebody saying, you know, Paul Dano refused a foot massage from Quentin Tarantino or something. Oh yeah, he's definitely a foot, isn't he, Quentin Tarantino apparently. I know he did it in Pulp Fiction, I know there was that whole bit, but I didn't realise this was a recurring thing with him.
1:03:17Yeah, he does a big thing, like he puts feet in like shots and stuff like that, he's a massive foot.
1:03:20Jack:True, I was thinking about that actually in Death Proof, in Death Proof, she's always got her feet up on the... And I think it's in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood as well, when they put feet on the dashboard of the car, I thought he's a massive foot weirdo. I mean, it does, it doesn't come as a massive surprise a lot of this conversation i am seeing is people being like god quentin tarantino so weird isn't he it's like haven't we always known that you know i don't think it's a big surprise is it no i just love the way that everyone just came up relentless support of paul dana um including i just wasn't buying that like i i like tarantino as a filmmaker but come on man paul dana is brilliant he is brilliant he's so good it's so good i love paul daniel and then for daniel day lewis to say on instagram that's when you know this you know you're wrong um so then 2010s we've got on um again none of these are surprising but i'm one of them we saw together so this you know what my pick would be but um parasite social network and arrival yeah i do know which one you would say um i think it's i think it's again as a film i think it's parasite i do think so um i would say my personal favorite is obviously arrival but Arrival is brilliant.
1:04:30That is my all-time favourite film.
1:04:32Jack:Villeneuve's on a just generational run at the moment, isn't he? You know, Denis. And then currently, obviously, we're halfway through the decade, but the two I've got so far, again, no surprises for me, is June 2 and Another Round, which are my two favourites so far of the 2020s. I love Another Round. I thought it was brilliant. Such a brilliant film. So, so good. One Battle After Another will be up there by the time. the problem with another round though is it really makes you want to get pissed like when you're seeing you're seeing all the drinks that they're having especially when they're making these like supposed to be like a thing about how alcohol ruins your life but i was like actually that sounds like a good idea it's those it's those cocktails he makes with the big round ice cubes do you know what i mean when it's just you've seen them doing a fucking american version of it that's so annoying i know i know it's you know i've got a lot of american listeners so i'm going a bottle having an opinion on that.
1:05:24Jack:No, not really. Just, you know, watch films and subtitles. It's fine. Yeah, it's fine. It's all right. This is quite an interesting one. Let's just do this one quickly. Frisinho on Blue Sky says, Dembele as a winger was decent but lacked end product. Reminds me of Kudus. Poch then turned Dembele into one of the best central midfielders in Europe. Win the ball, keep it, Give it Eriksen or Dele. Would Kudus benefit from similar treatment? What do you make of that, Bill? Yeah, I have seen, apparently for Ajax, he used to play more centrally. He used to play number 10. Like, I definitely see it because he's really good at keeping hold of the ball, a bit like Dembele used to be.
1:06:10But I find him, I think he's really good on the wing. I think when you, just because he's so good at beating a man 1v1, you don't tend to get that as much in midfield because he's normally surrounded by two or three, four players. And we've seen lately, he's such a threat on the wing that teams tend to double or even triple up on him at the moment, which I think is really annoying for him because he struggles, but then effectively should be loads of space on the left-hand side. But as soon as we get a quality left winger in, I think that's going to be really good. But I can definitely see it. I can see the vision for sure.
1:06:42I thought he was talking about Usman Dembele at the beginning there, who's now turned into being one of the best strikers in the world. but yeah I don't remember Moussa Dembele playing on the wing that much well this is it
1:06:53Jack:yeah I asked I asked Nathan for his take on this as well and he said Dembele never played on the wing he played more as like a number 10 he was a striker wasn't he as well yeah like Kudus did because he also mentioned that he does Ajax and his take on it I can see the comparison between Dembele and Kudus because they do they both have this thing where they just can't lose the ball he just his sort of opinion was that it felt that the sort of things that frustrate people about Kiddos right now so his decision making at times isn't going to disappear with him drifting into the middle in midfield it's even more important to get decisions right exactly so um yeah like you say anyway my sort of take on it is I like Kiddos out on the wing I think he's really decent and he did the funny thing is like the Nottingham Forest game it was one of those it was one of those quite affirming moments where like I felt I felt that he was starting to annoy me a bit and I was like you're probably just annoyed about the game but I did see quite a few other people saying that his performance against Forrest was particularly quite baffling but he's been one of the I think they were literally triple marking him though and he's been one of the few shining lights of the season I'm not going to pile on him he's clearly good about Tottenham this season is I think opposition probably know that if you sort of triple mark could us we're doomed there's not really much to be offered AllKillerNoFiller says what Christmas present as a child and or grown up caused absolute limbs he said getting a ps2 was mine i've got i know straight with the second he said this i know what it is i know mine's a playstation one um i remember clear as day like just getting a playstation one and just being like this the best thing that's ever happened to me um yeah i just remember getting i think i had fifa i think it might have been fifa 98 or something like that and just yeah i i've always been a playstation over xbox person and i remember looking back like just crash bandicoot spyro that kind of stuff unbelievable and then when i got slightly older christmas present i would have been like i was massively into metal gear solid which is my all-time favorite game but yeah definitely a playstation what about you what was that noise um that was my all-time um it's brilliant um mine was i don't know how old i was about probably six five or six or so but it was when like transformers figures transformers toys were huge and my parents got me like scorponoc which was like this this gigantic kind of scorpion thing that turned into a robot and into a base but i still just thinking around it now i just still feel that same like the goosebumps like from opening that and how excited i was like one of my most treasured treasure i think i've still got it so i think might be my parents loft or something like that somewhere um yeah absolute scenes you know when you someone says something and it like triggers a memory in you i remember i remember going to toys russ and toys russ just unreal when you're a kid i was like go but it's a magical place it was um i remember trying to get an optimus prime but i couldn't find one anywhere i remember being impossible impossible optimus prime i remember that i never had an optimus prime never or a Megatron.
1:10:11Yeah.
1:10:12Jack:Impossible. It was the Turbo Man, wasn't it, really, getting an Optimus Prime? Yeah. And it is a kind of shame like now. I mean, they do still exist because I do take my daughter there, like the Smiths or whatever they're called. But it's a shame that that experience has been like Amazon-ified, hasn't it? Like everything's just like, have a look what you want on Amazon rather than going like when you were a kid going to Toys R Us. That was just like the best day of your life ever. Like the stuff that was on a massive shelf that was like you had to get and allowed us to get up to. I feel like it's starting to creep back though.
1:10:43Jack:I feel like we sort of had that period, didn't we, when Amazon and everything first came to the forefront and everyone was like, right, we're all going to do all our shopping online. Yeah. High Street's going to die. So now people are like, yeah. Yeah. Catalogue. Oh, mate. Heady days. But now I think people are suddenly like, actually it is quite nice going and looking at stuff. Yeah. As you say, the whole experience of it. I mean, I still, I still lament Blockbuster Video, just not being a thing anymore. It was one of my favourite things to do. I could just walk around Blockbuster Video and look at video cases, do you know what I mean, and not even hire anything.
1:11:20Jack:Loved it. Absolutely loved everything about it. That is, yeah, Blockbuster, that was just unbelievable. I really do miss that. And it's kind of obviously a really hot topic at the moment with the kind of future of the film industry up in the air. But, yeah, that was awesome. We've seen Nolan has said he's not going to do Netflix films. Oh, really? He said he won't work with them. The last bastion. The Avengers of Nolan, Scorsese, James Cameron, and Paul Thomas Anderson would come out together against all this not-network film. I think he said something to the effect of what he doesn't like about it is that they've almost got like an ideological vendetta against putting films in the cinema, which is - You see his Ted Taron cinema, his name is, said, my son watched Lawrence of Arabia on his phone it was just as good yeah I mean immediately well in saying that because I've seen a lot of people have pulled out a clip from a Nolan interview where he was asked about his films being shot on IMAX and all this type of stuff and I think they sort of said to him doesn't that sort of mean that you're limiting your audience so people can't appreciate them on phones and he's like no no it's fine you can watch a movie on the phone that's not what the art form's about so he's sort of you know he's kind of uh he's dug himself a bit of a bit of a hole there but um back to all killer no fillers question a couple of honorable shout outs as well was the jurassic park t-rex which was a good one to get yeah and then and then an n64 with goldeneye yeah was uh yeah mate i loved an n64 i was thinking about the um you know when you used to not work you just have to blow on the on the things yeah yeah i always loved smash cartridges absolute favorite game of all time ocarina of time golden knight all oh mate amazing um were you a final fantasy man i was a final fantasy 7 i think is probably one of the greatest things ever written for a while to get into it and then i got i think i got final fantasy 10 but i had to have it with like the you remember you have to buy like a book of how to yeah guidebook i couldn't do it without the guidebook but then once i got it with the guidebook i was like oh this is actually as good as everyone says it is jingle schmelz um at lots sometimes on blue sky also says number one the alley pally wasp and number two why should the alley pally wasp relocate to the spurs dressing room i mean what what is it where is it from what's going on is it one wasp or is it a colony of wasps what is it it's either the first or second i think it was the first i'm pretty sure it's the first night of the uh the dance world championship this year there's a wasp on stage and it i think it got into two players at the same different matches on the shoulder and stuff so yeah so that's pretty um extreme darts situation right it's probably about as extreme as it ever gets you know and football obviously have to brave like snow conditions on darts i can imagine that's probably about as bad as it ever gets isn't it like a wasp being in the vicinity of your eyeline or whatever you uh you were there the other night weren't you when Menzis punched the table?
1:14:29I was, yeah. My first time going, mate. I'm surprised at how much better it was than even in my expectations. It would be like, it's just such an amazing experience, isn't it? I know you've been before, but... I've not been to Ali Pali.
1:14:41Jack:I went to the O2 for the Premier League. I imagine they're pretty much mostly, I imagine they're all sort of organised in the same fashion and same atmosphere. Because you saw the final, didn't you? Premier League final. Yeah, yeah. It was unbelievable. It was really... And I won on the day as well, which was, I thought, got a day session it's going to be a bit dead but no it was absolutely buzzing it was really amazing I would imagine it's probably more fun if anything because I reckon during the evening one people have drunk too much and they're a bit knackered you know yeah I mean I was I was literally in bed asleep by 8 o 'clock p.m.
1:15:14Jack:did you dress up or anything? we only got the tickets like the day before like on the thing so we were on a whim but we were sat by several I was had this conversation on the way down it's like if you if you could go what would you you know what would you do and I my initial response was a football paedophiles the full kit you know like a guilty six sex offender there's plenty to choose from let's be honest
1:15:46Jack:did you get the I had the Tottenham get bad everywhere they go because Menzies is playing and thankfully Scotland get battered every time. Was it? Okay. None of the – What do you think of Tottenham gets sung at the dance, doesn't it? Yeah. It's just like – Win free. Some of the stuff that we have to go through as Spurs fans, isn't it? Why are we the – It's like the, you know, are you going to do a Spurs that we were talking about earlier? Why are we the – We're always the butt of everything, of that ilk. Yeah, other than that part, the thing I do actually like about the dance is I can just – I don't really care about the outcome at all.
1:16:22Jack:I don't, I don't have, yeah, it was quite good seeing Luke Littler rise and seeing him win stuff. Now, if he doesn't win, I wouldn't be bothered. You know, I think it actually, if anything, I think it'd be quite good for the sport. If you like, if he, you know, doesn't win everything all the time. But yeah, I don't, I don't, I'm not really invested in the, in the outcome of it. So I can just sort of enjoy the thrills and spills of, of the matches. And it's, it's quite good. It's quite refreshing. Versus, you know, Spurs games where everything is so fraught, isn't it, all the time. And I think, you know, we've spoken so much before for the last years that we've known each other.
1:16:59I think everyone's the same. There's so much emotional attachment to Tottenham, though. It's like the experience of watching it is so emotionally draining at all times. And it's so like, when it's bad at the moment, it ruins your whole outlook on life with darts. It's just like, I'm invested because I like watching it, but it's nowhere near the same. You don't have that emotional baggage that comes with it. I just really enjoy watching it.
1:17:22Jack:Just fun, isn't it? I'm really looking forward to tomorrow, mate, because Bo Graves, who I think is absolutely unbelievable. Yeah, she's class. I've really invested in her winning. I really want her to win. But she's got a really tough game. I think it's Dobie or something like that. She's got a really tough draw. It's not Dobie, but she does have a tough one, though. Someone deases that. I can't remember who it is. I'm just looking it up now. um Fallon Sherricks on tonight isn't she yeah
1:17:53Jack:so yeah that'll be good um yeah looking forward to it Bill it's uh it's been a pleasure mate as always um do you care to leave anybody with him you know doing um Daryl Gurney sorry that's who it is I've enjoyed talking about films more than talking about Tottenham but that's how we always go on this podcast do you have a any festive words to leave to people listening well speaking of you know festive cinema are you uh are you avataring this week i i would like to i probably won't get around to it if i'm honest yeah i guess that's what you know once you um once fatherhood comes along you can't the cinema trips are less frequent right yeah especially for like three and a half hours or whatever it is that uh the avatar is going to be but i like the avatar series it's fun my advice would be as a first time Christmas father is it really does not matter what you get them for the first couple of Christmases because I remember Alessia, my daughter, we used to get her all these kind of things and she'd prefer the wrapping paper.
1:18:57That would be her favourite thing that we got. The first couple of ones, it doesn't really matter what you get them. She would find this tiny little part of a toy that she'd be obsessed with. We spend all the time worrying about what to get for Christmas for the first few years and really, she just likes like a tiny little piece of wood that she carries around with her or something like that
1:19:18Jack:get some uh monogrammed monogrammed stuff with my own uh yeah my own initials on right bill enjoy um let's hope anthony joshua versus jake paul is a great boxing fight as well weekend of sport we've got in store for us what a weekend of sport indeed tottenham liverpool Joshua Paul as well which one do you think is a bigger mismatch there exactly I was trying to think of a decent link there but you've done it yeah there's going to be somebody's going to be getting slapped about aren't they alright Bill much love thank you mate

Jack is joined by Billie T to dive back into the shocking performance against Nottingham Forest, lamenting the wheels coming off the previous (minor) upturn in form.
We ask if Spurs fans are being too hasty and emotional in calling for Thomas Frank’s head now? Should we stick with him and ride this out, or is it only right that we hold dear to our identity as an attacking side and refuse to compromise?
We try to find some positivity amidst the mire of the season, touching on the growing partnership between Xavi Simons and Archie Gray, and why the increased inclusion of the latter shouldn't become a culture war.
Billie then answers your questions, discussing the idea of Mohammed Kudus playing a central midfield role to emulate Mousa Dembélé, and which fixture we would choose to play without VAR.
Things then get a bit festive as we find out Billie’s all-time favourite Christmas present and his definitive Christmas dinner side.
