In short
Topic The episode is mostly a casual conversation between hosts Colin Moriardi and Chris Raygon about everyday life (laundry, home water/electrical issues after heavy rain), movies/music they’ve been watching, and internet/culture topics (Coldplay concert clip, cheating discussion, music plagiarism/lawsuits, and physical media like CDs/vinyl). It also includes a long segment of listener/Patreon shout-outs and community Q&A. The episode title and repeated trailer-style ad copy promote Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars (IMAX, Rated R) and a “Coldplay podcast” bit, but the actual discussion content is the hosts’ banter and listener messages.
Guests (who appears) No formal guests are interviewed. The only “guest-like” content is:
- Listener call-in prank/bit: “Max” (a Patreon participant) calls in to respond to a staged “Bidet’s rule”/Dustin-related prompt.
- Mentioned but not present: Dustin Firman (executive producer, referenced), plus various podcast guests discussed in past/future segments (e.g., Reese Elliot from Alinea Analytics; Jaffe; Hoag), but they do not appear in this transcript.

Key claims
- Water intrusion is portrayed as highly destructive, including water reaching electrical boxes and other areas.
- Music plagiarism disputes are discussed as sometimes legitimate and sometimes “out of control,” with examples where artists were added to credits or sued.
- Physical media is argued to sound better (CD/vinyl texture) and to preserve specific “manual smell” experiences.
- The Coldplay concert clip is framed as a public cheating/embarrassment scenario, with speculation about why someone would react publicly.
Notable examples
- The Dog Stars trailer copy (Ridley Scott; Jacob Elordi, Josh Brolin, Margaret Qualley, Guy Pearce).
- Coldplay concert “couples” video where the man ducks during a blast; discussion of cheating.
- Music lawsuits/examples: Ed Sheeran vs Marvin Gaye; Blurred Lines; Olivia Rodrigo/Paramore-Hayley Williams credit dispute; Vanilla Ice “Ice Ice Baby” comparisons; Rob Thomas/“Lonely No More” plagiarism talk.
- Physical media examples: first CDs/tapes (Dare to Be Stupid; Please Hammer Don’t Hurt ‘Em; Vanilla Ice To the Extreme; Limp Bizkit; Il Nino).

5:44Colin Moriarty:possible i think that we opened up there's a little bit of rust at the bottom it's not the first time that water was coming into the electric box which is concerning so i think if we just get it's sealed up we'll be fine right um water is a fucking destructive element dude and it's like it's created you know it's like insane to me and someone's gonna say it's not an element it's two elements i mean like an element you know like the earthly element uh right like a avatar it's hydrogen and oxygen those are the elements um just save it all right i'm not in the fucking mood for it i'm not in the mood for the chemistry the periodic table not in the mood for it but the water finds its way oh yeah it's incredibly destructive and it freaks me out like i was saying with my when i got water from again from the ac unit i was like oh fuck that's like the last thing you want to see where it doesn't belong and for me it was in it was around the the smoke detector so that was fun it's like i don't think there should be water here um well good luck to you yeah they'll probably raise your premium if you did that or whatever but then you could just probably get new home insurance with some other company yeah i've never had to use it before thankfully yeah me neither thankfully i actually on my this is my fifth year in the house and so i actually got a thing saying like because you haven't used it for five years you now get like x discount all right that's nice yeah now now colin when we join the call you're looking you know and a little bit of frustration with the uh the potential chemists that could be writing in that we don't know if they exist or not are you little they got their fucking burners you know yeah are you a little ep today yeah what's going on yeah i'm sleepy yeah delivering packages oh my god oh i gotta deliver them parcels apostles um gotta deliver those parcels and build those roads and those trains and the monorails the combat's so good we'll get to death stranding too but i actually wasn't up that late last night for me i was i went to bed at like three but yeah i am i am tired i was i the day before i got up at two in the afternoon the day before that i got up at three in the afternoon so yeah i've been staying up really feeling good you know feeling good at night hanging out um but uh yeah i got up in a more normal hour today today is the day we're recording it's micah's birthday that's right and therefore it's also treble's birthday as well treble turns four micah turns 32.
8:18Colin Moriarty:32. I forgot she's a little older than me. What'd you say? She's slightly older than me. Yeah. Yeah, she is. She's got a little bit. Yeah. It's just weird. Like I was 32 and I turned 32 in 2016. So I wrote her a really long letter for her birthday and I was saying like, it'll be fun to see where you end up because I'm in like a totally different place right now than I was when I was 32. So yeah, we're just hanging out and yeah, otherwise just chilling out. We've gotten a lot of rain here as well, like an enormous amount of rain. Plants like it. Everything's green and bursting and looking healthy.
8:55But I'm not really feeling it personally. But the dog days aren't here yet, and it probably won't rain for like a month. So I'm enjoying it while I can. Whilst I can. So tired. Yeah. All right. Is there anything else to say?
9:15Colin Moriarty:I don't know. I don't know if there's anything that's really, I don't know if there's anything that's really happened for me personally. I guess I saw Superman. I saw Superman twice, actually. Oh, twice. With two different people. Yeah. I liked it way more than I thought I would. I hope so if you saw it twice. Yeah. Yeah. And I had some people who were like, I want to see it. And I was like, oh, I'll see it again. And it occurred to me when I was watching it where I was like, wow, I'm 31. And my entire lifetime up until this point, there hasn't been a Superman movie that I was like oh that's fun that's a good that's a good movie right which is crazy to me because that's like the oh that's like the hero you know what i mean like it's crazy to me that 30 years went by without like a halfway decent movie for superman it's kind of wild uh that it took this long because i really couldn't stand like man of steel like i really couldn't stand i don't know i don't even care about superman really but like yeah i couldn't stand man of steel man oh my god so bleak for no reason yeah I saw oh I'm sorry go ahead I saw there you can buy tickets to Christopher Nolan's next movie a year in advance right now yeah a year away I don't know if I want to be alive why would I buy tickets to a movie a year from now it is great like they showed yeah because before Superman they showed a trailer for it I was like oh yeah the Odyssey with you know there's John Bernthal Tom Holland's in it I think a bunch of other people in it But it's like a teaser trailer.
10:45Colin Moriarty:And it's like, oh, yeah, I'm down to see a Christopher Nolan rendition of the Odyssey. That sounds sick. And it's just like August 2026 or something. And I'm like, what are we doing? Like, this is like, that's like video game. Yeah. Pre-ordering. Yeah. It's ridiculous. It's like a teaser trailer. It's like, hey, we're working on this movie. Come apply for a job here at Christopher Nolan Co. You're just like, yeah, that's not really how this works, man. it's insane i still haven't seen what was the last dunkirk was the last one i even saw of his so i'm two i think i'm two behind now yeah i didn't see tenant tenant it sounds really cool i heard it's like really heady and weird and i'd like to see it but i i think all the time i'm like i'll watch this and i'll do this and then i just never i just play video games basically yeah who has time for anything else there's no there's no movies you're not like curious about like naked gun doesn't curious i am curious about making and i would love to see it with my dad especially because that's like that's a movie that he you know that those three films and i know you're a huge fan of those two and airplane and all that kind of you know leslie nielsen's fucking iconic um yeah absolutely iconic like absolutely the funny when he showed up in was it scary movie when he shows up as the president and i was like and but no one knew he was in it and i saw it in a theater and i was like dude it's so and he's like everyone calmed and the aliens are like fucking everything up behind him almost like baghdad bag i think it was actually making fun of Baghdad Bob and the Iraq war because that timing would have been was that awesome he's so funny dude was that the uh nothing to see here uh or was that or am I thinking of a different no that's that's in a naked gun that's still naked gun nothing to see here and everything's exploding behind oh maybe that's the the finger too and what I remember if this game was he's put like aliens like putting the finger in his mouth or whatever or something like yeah yeah and they pee out of their fingers yeah it's i used to love going to the movies and just watching and movies are great it's just i just i just kind of fell out of it but yeah it it seems like it's going to be and i think people have already seen it if i um and yeah we're saying like it's really good like it's very true and what i loved what i loved the response i saw was like it's not really inappropriate either and that's kind of the same thing with um with naked gun like there were some sexual things and whatever like the condom scenes and stuff but like generally speaking it was just silly and that's why i was able to watch it with my dad when i was 10 and right yeah me too and it wasn't like a huge deal or whatever but my dad was a huge fan of those films and he loves um who is that leslie um well who's that uh um oh leah neeson yeah i was gonna say you and mcgregor i always put them together because of fucking obi-wan and quigon um he's a fan like my dad loves film and stuff so he i'm sure he'll be into it but yeah that that does look funny and there are other things i'm sure that i would love oppenheimer i'm sure that i would love tenant i'm sure that i would love all these things i just i don't know i just i feel like i part of me feels like i have brain rot to such a degree that i can't do it anymore but actually like it's anti-brain rot where i'm like really just focused in i'm not trying to like watch tv or watch movies or anything like that anymore it's just not even a part of my life so um yeah whatever did you guys see this thing that's going around recently of the cold play concert oh yeah i just saw that before i woke up and like i was like still like my like my eyes were like still half shut and i was like looking at i was like i don't know what the hell's going on with this i tried to decipher it for a good like minute and i was like i don't know i don't know what i'm seeing basically so good it's at this cold play concert they're like highlighting couples together and it shows this one couple and they freak out and like the guy literally ducks down like there's a fucking blast going off like jumps to the ground yeah and people found out that it's a ceo of a some company and like the human resources head or something like that of the same company naturally they're both married but not to each other here's my question i've never cheated on anyone so i don't understand the mindset of a cheater yeah me neither but if i was going to cheat i don't think i'd be going to big public events but are they getting off on the idea of possibly getting caught of course i think that's that's the only reason you would do it right it's dangerous man like yeah i i don't have it in like i really don't i've also never cheated on someone I've been cheated on by multiple people.
15:17But I wouldn't do that to someone. I don't think I'm built like that. Like even let me, let me like, even if I were so back, like back in the day, like I was like kind of in the late end of a relationship and I was kind of interested in this other person. So I just, I did what normal people did and I broke up with that person and then i started to pursue the other person because you have to have a little respect you know that's like a really devastating thing to do to someone it's fucked up but the whole public thing i like the idea that if they just didn't respond like that no one would have ever thought twice about it i thought that yeah but i understand why you would respond like that it's because you're doing something totally devious and fucked up i don't gotta take it easy
16:07Colin Moriarty:on everything you know imagine losing it all at the cold play concert cold play it's crazy they're about to play the scientist what a wild soundtrack getting your life destroyed oh that's a good that's that's an interesting story it's a let it be instructive to you if you're cheating out there some of someone out there listening to this is cheating on someone yes that must be true no doubt probably a lot of you you need to think twice about doing that to the person really devastating i was never more hurt than when i found those things out yeah even just like just break up with me and then go do it you gotta there's an order of operations first because then you put the other person in danger too it's like STDs and you don't know what you're getting you know disgusting anyway that was a great episode of Sacred Symbols of PlayStation podcast a Coldplay podcast and he was all yellow that's a great song a Coldplay podcast 360 something episodes of a Coldplay podcast I like that song I'm sorry go ahead I think Coldplay has some good songs.
17:27Colin Moriarty:Definitely. I don't think they're great discography overall. No. Some of that stuff sucks. Yeah. Yeah. Yellow. That is a great song. Dagan. Dagan's wife is really into Helene's really into Coldplay and they went and saw them maybe on this tour. I don't know. I like the song clocks a lot. I think that song's sick. Class is a great song. Yeah. Great song. I play it on the drums all the time. It's easy. It's just very big, but it's it's that's a that's probably my favorite song of theirs. the lyrics are awesome and that's on too yeah um but yeah they're a little annoying they were on that they were bordering in my opinion in the cultural zeitgeist of being like a nickelback to a lot of people and they kind of pulled out like they kind of got out of that they got close to the event horizon and they're like and and yeah they got real close because like they were for like a good minute there they were kind of overexposed like i remember clocks was used in a lot of stuff i remember i would hear it in like um i don't know if it was commercials or what but like i remember hearing that song interspersed between television shows that i was watching when i was a kid and being like what the fuck why is this everywhere this this clocks crap i like clocks but like it was yeah it well it's you know what it once you stopped hearing it it reminds me of the song i actually named this one of the titles of sacred elite recently after it the the jesus jones songs right here right now which was like everywhere in the 90s you guys might be too young right here right now you know that song like that song's fucking you don't know that song i know that song i might i don't know oh like well your rendition didn't yeah ring anything in my head yeah well that's that's pretty close i think sure but anyway that song was everywhere and then i i hated it and then now i love it because like you don't hear it anymore And it's like, oh, this is a really great song.
19:14They just overexposed that song. Yeah. Legendary director Ridley Scott returns in IMAX.
19:26Colin Moriarty:It's no surprise how fast civilization can disappear. Out there. Kill or be killed. Jacob Elordi. There are people out there. They need our help. Josh Brolin. Shoot first and inquire afterwards. Margaret Qualley. Okay, tough guy. And Guy Pearce. The Dog Stars, directed by Ridley Scott. Now playing in theaters. Rated R, under 17, not a minute without parent. Late night bites with friends? Already hard to beat. That first too hot bite of fries you couldn't wait for, followed by ice cold Pepsi. Now that hits different. Suddenly, the energy kicks back in. The night goes longer. And the laughs don't stop.
20:06Colin Moriarty:Because Pepsi brings out more flavor, more fun, and more of the moment. Food deserves Pepsi. Grab a Pepsi Zero Sugar today.
20:18Well, that was fun for a Coldplay episode of number 368 of the Coldplay podcast. Yeah. The Scientist of Coldplay podcast.
20:29Colin Moriarty:Those are the only songs I really know. I feel like I only really know like a handful of songs. It's all the early stuff off those two records. Those first two records is all I know as well. Right. Which is true with Viva La Vida. I guess that, yeah, Viva La Vida, the one that like, I think that was the one with all the controversy about being stolen from Joe Satriani or something. Yes. Oh, right. Back in the day, I remember that was a big deal. Oh, there was like a lawsuit over that, wasn't there or something? Yeah. Like the court. Yeah. Yeah. And I remember like kind of, I remember at the time listening to it, I was like, I guess.
21:00Colin Moriarty:But like, I was like, it was so strange because I think like Joe Satriani might have been right, but also like it seemed so trivial. like i don't know i i i don't understand really unless it's really blatant like it's just like one for one rip like like vanilla ice and and uh what is it uh under pressure or whatever oh yeah like no it's not it doesn't go dun dun dun dun and it goes dun dun dun dun dun and it's completely different like unless it's like that was insane by the way i love that i love that clip yeah it's That is the craziest clip I've ever fucking seen for like a person explaining like, oh, that's fine.
21:43Colin Moriarty:But that one, I just kind of was like, I mean, I guess it's there. But is this enough to sue? I mean, I guess I don't know. First, there's only so many notes. Like, I don't. Yeah. Well, no, I mean, there's like the chord progressions or there's like those guys that do that that little thing where they play one song into the next song, into the next song, into the next song. You know what I'm talking about? and it's all the same chords but like they're distinct songs it's there's only so much you can do it's like it's like the color wheel you can't invent new colors anymore there's no new colors it's just we know all the colors what are you gonna do yeah um yeah and i and i appreciate um i appreciate a good sample you know i appreciate i appreciate good dude i found out recently like what is it um it was like a lincoln park thing i can't remember if it was like i can't remember the name of the song oh like i know what you're talking about for faint yeah and like they sampled like this old james bond film like this this one snippet of an old james bond film and then they reversed it right it's just like yo that's pretty cool that's it that's crazy to even register that it's like yo this uh this james bond lick here uh this orchestral lick this will be great in reverse at the beginning of our Linkin Park song and it works, it's like that's crazy that's a level of I can't even understand how someone's that brilliant a lot of the suing over music stuff I feel like has gotten out of control a few years ago there was that court case with Marvin Gaye and Ed Sheeran which I don't like Ed Sheeran at all as far as his music but I respect the hell out of him because he like showed up to the court explained how chord progressions work and was like i didn't steal this song this is just a chord progression and basically was like if i lose this case i'm quitting like i'm just quitting music because you can't make music because you can't own a chord progression and that's why he was in game of thrones and then yeah he was in game of thrones testing the waters that was a i do remember yeah because he brought a guitar and everything right didn't he or right no i might think yeah yeah well marvin gays to stay they sue like everybody they can and they win sometimes they won against uh blurred lines yeah and that was also dubious to me there's only really been a handful there's only been a handful of songs that i've been like gobsmacked by how obvious it was that uh that they just completely plagiarized it and one of them is um do you guys remember rob thomas from uh of course funny yeah he did uh that this song like lonely no more in like 2004 and 2005 it was just very catchy song i actually really like it i haven't heard it in a long time but there was this song called like me and my broken heart by like i think braxton or something and it's just straight up like that is exactly the same like it is really blatant and i think to the point where like i think they added him later as like a writer because it's like you couldn't like rob thomas was like retroactively added to it because it's just like you can't not but it's so blatant it's crazy but that was the only time in my life that i'd ever heard something where i was like that's a straight up ripoff that's what they do now there was that olivia rodrigo song that suddenly hayley from paramore hayley williams is now a co co-writer of oh yeah i'm guessing they got a a letter from a lawyer that was like I think that's the new thing now instead of suing you just kind of like you got to add me as a you got to put me in the credits for this and I guess like a split of yeah you get the money a split of the royalties or something because it's right maybe it like qualifies it's like it borders on I guess cover maybe territory but even that one that Olivia Rodrigo one I remember it like listen I'm a big parent I like Paramore a lot Hayley Williams I think is fucking amazing i don't know if i hear it i don't know if i hear the paramore and in in that song specifically i hear the inspiration kind of but i don't know if i hear like enough right i don't know i don't know about that but god bless since uh vanilla ice came up i should enter into the um into the record although we've probably entered it in it's something in some other way maybe not on the show my the second like album i like record i ever got like myself cassette tape was vanilla ice is to the extreme his first record that was my second my first tape that i ever got the the seminal 1990 mc hammer record please hammer don't hurt him that's that was the first uh record you got yeah that was the first like so i got like i think i was in it was probably first grade my my parents got me like a like a you know a cheat boom box that had a cassette player in it because my brother was really in the music and everyone's in the music and i wanted to be in the music and uh yeah so they got me that and please hammer don't hurt him as my first tape and then my second tape yeah was the first vanilla ice record that's so funny yeah do you remember dustin your first your first like cd or like your first the piece the first piece of music that you owned it's really hard to say because my dad collected cds he had like over a thousand cds and we listened to the same music so i had no need to right buy my own cds for the most part so i can't really think of there was i'm sure a situation where i bought a cd that he didn't want you know like maybe i remember buying the third lincoln park album the one that's not very good minutes to midnight one summer and that's about it yeah so yeah yeah i was kind of okay i was kind of in a similar boat where like my dad owned a lot of cds and he owned a lot of music but i i was like that's his i can't touch them so like i remember very distinctly when i got my first like only cd it was like a gift from like a cousin it was a dare to be stupid oh hell yeah that's a great first cd which is in retrospect a really good first cd to get because it's like it just kind of like throws you into like a bunch of different 80s songs which like i i would either which previously i would have had no reason to even remotely be interested in or check out so just a weird first that's the one with um like a surgeon on it right i think so yeah yeah i don't remember the track list all too well but i remember i remember the vibe of it was like a surgeon it's funny you bring up cds chris i sent a text to colin over this past weekend was that a family reunion so it's actually a really interesting family reunion because it was the it was actual firman reunion and the context for that is my dad's dad so my grandpa died when he was seven so we don't have a lot of strong connection to the firman side so anyway interesting family reunion but my cousin was there and he's 15 16 but i see a a walkman cd player with plot with with earbuds and there's a stack of about four cds on there but i noticed the top cd what was it colin it was limp biscuit was a significant other and then uh which is like they're one of their seven well limp biscuit has like three really seminal records i think three dollar bill is that the one that like got people really into them when you guys were just little um but yeah he had a yeah he had three dollar bill and then he had chocolate starfish which is actually my favorite limp biscuit album which is which is a very unpopular take uh but i was saying the crazier thing was he had revolution revolution from il nino in that stack of cds and I was like, what?
29:39I have no idea who that is. Dude, Il Nino was like a rap metal, like a Latino rap metal new metal band. And they were fucking sick. I loved Il Nino. That's why I said to you, I'm like, dude, the crazier because they do their song What Comes Around is fucking sick by Il Nino. They're awesome. They have like really great percussion, like, you know, drums and then percussion. It's like a Latin kind of feel to their songs. Yeah, they're a new rap band. Yeah. They are. um and um so i was like that's even so i texted you back i'm like the limp stuff's cool but that's even fucking crazier that is revolution revolution by il nino that is like some obscure shit that he's got there yeah um that was so yeah i wonder where he even got that stuff
30:24Colin Moriarty:i and dude the thing is it's like they're not it's not like he's using a cd player because they're like can't afford a like he has a smartphone so the kids you know the gen z are into physical cds again very interesting because it's retro it's retro now it's retro now so it's um it is interesting he he's in a bunch of music my dad took him to took him to see a cannibal corpse about a month ago cool crazy sentence yeah my dad took this to see cannibal i can't imagine ever saying that in my life yeah my dad took someone to see cannibal corpse um yeah that's good stuff so yeah i hope he continues to enjoy i i uh you can get the good thing about buying cds is you can rip like mega high quality flax off of them which is cool oh yeah that's like basically the only reason to have a cd anymore in my opinion and you don't really realize like because i listen to spotify pretty much exclusively the last 15-ish years of my life and I even have the high quality thing that you like it's like bad for your bandwidth or whatever but like still when you really hear like a record especially or something it's like damn dude missing so much texture it's incredible that vinyl with grooves in it that represent minute changes in sound waves and is represented out of a speaker sounds perfect it's really weird like it's mega lo-fi you see sometimes people make their own records have you ever seen that like where they'll take like they'll scream into a thing and like and and carve it in and then put it on like a weird band and yeah it's strange it just works it makes no sense to me it is crazy to me and i understand that this is fundamentally illogical right but the idea of like pressing sound onto a wax disc and then somehow dragging a needle across it to get the sound out feels more like magic than an mp3 does yeah like optical or a digital yeah i agree that someone had to come up with that that's like it's like cool like well it was edison right i mean it was edison the gramophone right yeah which it's just psychotic to me like i'm just like yeah oh man i got an idea i'm gonna i'm gonna press sound under this wax and then it's gonna be preserved for all time it's the same it's the same thing about like how i think about like first person to figure out like i think we can get glue out of this horse if we boil the horse alive like a fucking lobster it's okay you do it head first the boiling horse is a they don't feel any pain that's a metal band boiling horse yeah boiling horse and it's in that like really you know and you see like a metal um like a festival and it's all the same text you can't you have no fucking code it says yeah yeah it's like graffiti kind of almost you're like is that um all right well we really should get into the show i guess at this point we should sacred symbols the playstation podcast welcome episode number 368 you can get us three days early and ad free over on patreon patreon.com slash last day media that's how you support us we could not do without you without you over there we will disappear into the ether or as one of my history professors professor robinson used to say at northeastern like so much smoke up the chimney that's what he used to say he was very old there's no way he's still alive because i feel like he was in his late 80s when i had him he was awesome so i would be awesome if he was alive he'd be like 110 though yeah um very old he had these like spindly fingers and he would always talk like you know and just write he would never almost never write on the board but then he would write like a random date yeah you know very flattering portrayal that you're you're painting this guy yeah yeah fingered old geriatric piece of shit you can't spell no he wasn't a piece of shit he was great he was great professor robinson was great so your support on patreon essential it obviously your support is not only for sacred symbols but for sacred symbols plus the and all the other shows in our network so defining duke is the xbox podcast in our network uh punching up is the nintendo podcast in our network summon sign is the gameplay and game experience podcast in our network and so on and so forth you can also get rss feeds and the ability to connect to patreon so you just get the podcast right into your patron or to your podcast app of choice or Spotify.
35:02You get access to the discord, the ability to submit your inquiries. You'll hear them throughout the show. Just go to the threads and the newsfeed on Patreon and submit there to the various shows. And we go through them, comb through them. But yeah, the early ad free stuff is what's most essential plus sacred symbols. Plus our weekly supplement to the show. We did a few interesting conversations recently, including an entire conversation on 14 potential PlayStation games that might migrate to Xbox. we did a full lengthy nearly three hour review discussion on death stranding director's cut i had reese elliot from alinea analytics on recently to talk about game numbers and data which was really fun i'll be talking with jaffe for this saturday for moriarty cross jaffe just waiting to hear back from him on timing by the way as far as sacred symbols plus is concerned i'd like to have rick hogan in the coming weeks you'll notice conspicuously that the subnautica 2 news that has been going around is not anywhere in our show for people that don't know there's like a huge problem with um what is it unknown worlds is the studio and craft in which is the south koreans publisher that owns them a 250 million dollar uh issue that lawsuits are being filed and all the rest is a very complex and fluid conversation or situation and i'd like to have a conversation with hoag about it when it settles down a little bit more as far as i understand the lawsuit that the craft or the um the unknown worlds founders that were fired from the company have been filed and people are reading it now.
36:25So we'll be able to talk about it in a few weeks. I just feel like covering it now doesn't really make any sense because once all this stuff comes out, then it's going to take fucking forever for it to actually anything to happen. And then so it'll be in stasis and we can analyze it from there. So please be patient for people that don't know, though, you can go look it up. Basically, what happens is the claim is that Unknown Worlds is claiming that Krafton is arbitrarily delaying Subnautica 2 out of this calendar year to avoid paying a$250 million bonus to the studio, which is an enormous amount of money.
36:55Like crazy level. And I believe it, but we'll see. We'll see what happens. So that's why, by the way, it's not in here. So keep an eye out for that in the coming weeks. The Uncharted Wolf wrote in and said, hey, Secret Crew, Colin, I really enjoyed your crossover with the Dukes on debating what PlayStation games could come to Xbox. Any chance we can get something similar with the punching up crew on what PlayStation games could come to Switch 2? I know you said you think everything from the PS4 is feasible, but I'd be interested in knowing what games you think Sony would prioritize coming to switch to.
37:21Thanks for the great content each week. It's a great idea. I've made note. We'll do that in the coming weeks as well. So keep an eye out for that on patreon.com slash last day media merch at last day media dot store t-shirts sweatshirts hats stickers. You can also buy a copy of her proxy on disc if you'd like at H wrote in and said gentlemen I trust this missive finds you well. 38:18Probably. I probably it's probably the reason why I'm so retarded. Actually, I probably lost five to 10 % of my brain cells doing that. Right. But it does smell so good. That is that iconic. You'll never get it again because everyone's so cheap and they won't put instruction manuals anymore.
38:34Colin Moriarty:You can get it again. All you got to do is purchase a copy of her proxy. By her proxy. That's true. Yeah. Touche. You're selling that. Touche. Touche. Does it have that smell? That's what he was saying. in the letter yeah that that it does that does that that's so crazy i uh i guess i didn't really yeah well i think it's just it's i guess it's just not being exposed or something you're opening it for the first time it's expressing that ink i guess i don't really know what that's what that's all about i guess my my feeling was that like i so much has changed that like maybe even just like the the chemical compounds of the ink is like a little bit different and like the the types of paper that we it's kind of like how um the new game informers like uh when i got them felt like they felt different from the old ones like they didn't have the same feeling of going through them because the pages were different and i presume the ink was a little different and so it's interesting to me that like even all these years later even if you're just using just like standard stuff that it would it would retain that really highly specific thing that's nice it's a nice truth it is it's a truism simon wrote in and said hi ss crew you had guys have on multiple occasions talked about watching these predator catcher videos it got me thinking how would you react if one of the people got caught wearing secret symbols or last damn merch i'll unplug my ethernet cord and listen to the wi-fi and sorry i'm dyslexic i could tell um i don't know we'll we'll see yeah who will see is so ominous it's like there was the guy that worked for for playstation at the ps5 or the ps5 or ps4 shirt it was just it was a ps5 shirt i want to say ps5 it's like dude i'm sure sony first of all it's bad enough that one of their guys is on one of these videos he's wearing the ps5 shirt on top of it man oh that's how i discovered these videos that is the seminal moment where i was like because that was going around and people identified who he was and he got fired or whatever and then i was like what wait because i was always a catch the predator fan but i was like wait there are like renegade ops like this right and that's how i fell down the rabbit hole it's all because of that that's literally because of that 100 it's too bad he was probably wealthy but not wealthy enough you know to avoid um being off scot-free as a pedophile yeah i mean he's uh he's pedophiling it up or you know accused i don't know what i actually have no idea what ended up happening to him i don't remember his name or anything about it really he was one of the he was one of the guys that was smart though i always wonder he just shut the door and you never saw it it was like a two second thing these guys go on for hours sometimes i'm like dude what do you do like don't you understand that you can't win everything you're doing is making it worse you're caught dead to rights just recede you know like these guys give so much free content it's crazy it's funny my favorite is that youtuber who's like uh no i'm here to get a cupcake i drove all this way for a cupcake don't worry it's completely completely inconspicuous dude the chris hansen shit that came up recently right on the show is like the chris hansen like the takedown stuff he does on youtube now it's called takedown with chris hansen is so funny like because it's so vulgar it's like it's it's like to catch a predator but what it would have been like if they weren't on nbc where he's like you said you'd lick her pussy you know like that kind of shit like that's literally what what it's like i'm like this is fucking hysterical his delivery his dry affect is perfect he's got a great he's got a great delivery for everything that he says even in those old videos where like he's not really saying anything he's he's saying everything but he's also like obviously making making note of the censors or whatever which is crazy that that would even apply to like such an insane like the idea that you would be watching to catch a predator but you wouldn't understand what it is you were watching like come on yeah yeah it's ridiculous certainly certainly speak speak openly come on these are monsters ding dong wrote in and said hello my favorite sacred crew just wanted to give a big shout out to colin for the awesome three plus hour talk with the xbox two guys no hate no fanboy nonsense just good honest gaming talk also really enjoyed your appearance on the broken silicon podcast with tom i would love to hear you on iron lords again too oh man they hate me i mean the iron lords like me but their audience hates me i appreciate all that you do and colin i can't remember if you ever got the platinum for eternal but i'm going to the for the collectibles now and apparently they spawn more consistently these days i've heard of that that that's happening i will probably get back to Returnal around when Saros comes out.
43:08So that's still on the, that's still on the table. Yeah. So thank you. I did some big guest appearances in the last week. If people want to check those out. I was on Xbox two, which is a big Xbox podcast, three hour conversation, really good. And yeah, I was on broken Silicon for over two hours with Tom. Tom, of course, appeared that's more as law is dead. He appears on our shows from time to time as well. So go check those out. Should I do more guest appearances? I don't know. I don't know. are they good are they bad for me or i think it's probably good to spread the field i think it's generally a good idea i should do some of those like fanboy shows on youtube that'll be fun the last time i did that the last time i did that i ended that dude's career is he does he not make videos anymore i don't think so oh boy that's a bad that was a bad day for saltiest gamer or whatever his name was.
44:02I thought, see, I remember that what I remember, Dustin, you know what I remember about that situation is you texting me during it and saying, I think you said verbatim, I think we're done here. That's exactly what you said. And I was like, yeah, fair enough. All right.
44:19Colin Moriarty:Like, wasn't it one of his main like cards against you as a a time stamp? Like he was saying like, well, you wrote this timestamp here. Oh, that's not like you hate Xbox. You're like, I don't write those. I pay someone to write them. It was like, oh, and he does hate Xbox. Yeah. Something. I can't remember what it was. Yeah, I don't. I kind of shied away from doing more of like conversations and quotes like that, because I, as I've said in the past, I did kind of feel bad about it because that guy was way outmatched. and like dealing with Jez and Rand, like professionals, like Jez and Rand know a lot.
45:01People bust their balls, but they are like deeply knowledgeable Xbox people. And obviously Tom, a prolific, you know, leaker of tech information and like talking with people like that is one thing. They can hold their own. They know what they're doing. But when you're getting into like the the casual part time YouTube space, these guys are vastly outmatched. And I felt bad. Cause I was like, I really embarrassed you. And that was, and I know that's like, say like, it's like a, it's like a quaint pat on the back for myself. I'm like, no, I really did. It's like you were, it was like. Like an expert level person dealing with like a novice.
45:38It would be like, it would be like me playing chess against Gary Kasparov. You know, like, what's the point? And that's why I stopped doing it. I'm like, it's, it's, it's like, you'll stay in your space. I'll stay in my space. But it doesn't stop these guys from talking enormous amounts of shit anyway. Like they know anything.
45:53Colin Moriarty:Yeah. you can find these guys pretty easy if you search your name and then start sort by like last month here's a guy that is making youtube shorts call me already hates xbox drama explode over game sales explode already hates x same guy call him already hates xbox parentheses and doesn't get it here's the thing about here's the thing about you i've gotten things wrong right like no doubt but here's the thing about xbox specifically is that i got xbox in their entire thing for the last seven or eight years but more right than virtually any and any xbox content creator so put that in your fucking pipe put that in your pipe chris what do i do with it what's the pipe smoke it light it up of course
46:45legendary director ridley scott returns in imax
46:51Colin Moriarty:It's no surprise how fast civilization can disappear. Go! Out there. Just kill or be killed. Jacob Elordi. There are people out there. They need our help. Josh Brolin. Shoot first and inquire afterwards. Margaret Qualley. Ow! Okay, tough guy. And Guy Pearce. Arm up! The Dog Stars. Directed by Ridley Scott. Now playing in theaters. Rated R. Under 17. Not a minute without parents. Late night bites with friends? already hard to beat. That first too hot bite of fries you couldn't wait for, followed by ice cold Pepsi. Now that hits different. Suddenly, the energy kicks back in. The night goes longer.
47:30Colin Moriarty:And the laughs don't stop. Because Pepsi brings out more flavor, more fun, and more of the moment. Food deserves Pepsi. Grab a Pepsi Zero Sugar today. Bidet's rule, but I'd rather call and power wash my ass road in. And said, howdy, dildos. Dusty, I heard that cry for help last week. I leave no thirsty man behind. If you are still missing Holly, call me for a meetup and 15 to 20 minutes of vivacious and velvety man on man diddling. Let me be the column to your George Washington. He left a phone number. Do you want me to call it? Yeah. All right. Hold on a second. I mean, you're going to give him your phone number.
48:07Colin Moriarty:I'll start six, seven. Okay.
Read the full transcript
48:13Colin Moriarty:Holy, you know, he didn't say where the meetup could be. I'm thinking Taco Bell parking lot I don't like this No should I not do it No do it do it Star six seven blocks your number right Is that foolproof He's a patron so I don't think He's going to try to fuck with you There are patrons that have my number Is star six seven Still a thing That's what came up
48:46Colin Moriarty:My question would be, my question would be less. Does that still block your number and more? Does like, did that ever really work? It probably doesn't with certain. There's probably ways around it. All right, I'm calling it. You ready? Just make sure you tell him he's on sacred symbols so we don't get any laws against unknowingly recording someone. Is it coming through? Yeah.
49:12Hello? Hello. Is this Mr. Bidet's rule? indeed what's your real name my name is max max this is colin you're on sacred symbols right now oh my god yes that's me what what are you looking for you're looking for a relationship with dustin or well maybe not a relationship but you know i've always thought he was cute and well-spoken
49:41Colin Moriarty:and you know you and Chris always like to tease him so I mean you specifically Chris is basically his bodyguard but no I just wanted to see if he was open to just talking at first and then we can take it physical if he's into it you know okay Dustin he won't be able to hear you so yeah what do I tell him tell him 247am on the dot hold on hold on hold on hold on hold on hold on hold on hold on hold on hold on hold on hold on hold on hold on hold on hold on hold on Let me get Dustin's feedback first, and then I'm going to tell you. I have to go. It's like we're translating. Hold on. Go ahead. Go ahead.
50:15Colin Moriarty:2.47 a.m. Yeah. Taco Bell parking lot. I don't need a relationship. Okay. He says 2. What time? 2.47? 2.47 a.m. 2.47 a.m. Taco Bell parking lot. He doesn't need a relationship. Are you down? That sounds like a good point. I am down. I am down. I just need to have the actual address. All right. We'll reach out to you privately, Max. Yeah. that sounds awesome all right thanks for playing along we appreciate you of course i appreciate you guys all right be well bye
50:49now everyone's gonna leave us their numbers yeah we should do that at some point like i i um the the football podcast heed the call that i love uh they have like a voicemail thing which i think is funny like that's i think it's a good idea yeah yeah maybe we could do something similar to that he i was surprised he picked up i never pick up unknown calls yeah me neither i think
51:10Colin Moriarty:like leaving the voicemail is fun uh but they know going into i like the idea of us calling them um because then it's just the shock of the moment you know yeah he was a good sport that was fun so that was good well he left his number i wonder if he thought there was a possibility you never know you never know what i'm gonna do i'm a wily son of a bitch yeah he's what we call a wild card wildcard bitches uh but in all seriousness holly is back home now boys oh good i no longer thirst uh well she's actually quite sick right now she's been sick ever since she got back she got the covid 20 over in uh cambodia oh my god i can't imagine the level of covid they have in cambodia
52:00oh that's mean i can't say that they're on covid 37 at this point
52:05Colin Moriarty:um did you have a good time though in cambodia yeah she had a great time um got to see angkor watt and some of the other cool stuff she saw some rats that are called hero rats and they sniff out bombs and like landmines the hero rats hero rats did she did she go and hang out with the Khmer Rouge the Khmer Rouge yes she's she's a member now of the Khmer Rouge so but yeah she had a great time she's happy to be back other than she is very sick right now so she's downstairs playing Donkey Kong she totally she was reading marks over there you know she was oh I mean she's ready to join up she just needs the the hookup from Chris from the Communist Party oh my god Chris is a fucking major communist major what do you look at chris is like shocked right now it's like he's watching the space shuttle columbia explode or something what's going on i looked up hero rat and i don't understand like is this a so it comes this is that they call it a hero rat this isn't a real rat right like it is a rat this is a rat that is egregious it is a real rat that they have trained to find landmines from whatever fucking war the genocide whatever they go out and they sniff it and they're not heavy enough to activate the landmine so what they're going in there they're talking about all these hero rats and there's a part where you get to hold one so the guy comes over with a with a rat for holly to hold and he's like oh yeah here you go his name is glenn um it's not like you know squeakers or something like that or a cambodian name no his just name is his glenn that's awesome that's glenn the rat yeah from the the war the genocide or whatever i'm sorry the war you know what i mean there's a bad shake that went down there dude i just like that sentence so what was his name glenn do you mean gren gren oh i don't know if they have a asian accent ridiculous they have a weird language though i've heard like on a video them i don't uh i'm trying to remember what it's even called i don't know it sounds weird so the reason i was like in bewilderment there is because like there's like some screenshots of this thing that looks that look like a normal rat and then there's some other ones that i'm looking at where it looks like a like a marsupial almost it's very weird like it's hunched over in like a very like australian animal way and i'm just like i don't really understand what i'm saying yeah i mean it's big man that's big that's a big ass fucking rat oh yeah they're like frisk sized um it's very cute though um i i looked it up here at cambodia on google images and i there's that one magawa who wears him he died apparently and he where he used to wear a metal like i'm like a like a metal around his yeah neck he's especially cute rats are they get a bad rap because of urban environments right what would they be like without the urban environment.
55:16There are millions of rats, for instance, in New York City. That would, millions of anything would freak me out, frankly. There are millions of bats. There are millions of fucking, I don't know, whatever. Cats. There probably are millions of cats in fucking New York City. Yeah. What were we talking about? That was fun. Bidet's rule, but I'd rather Colin don't power wash my ass good to talk to you on the phone be well it's that jeremy c wrote in and said hello merry gentlemen i want to congratulate you on sacred streaming's big debut and want to know how the streaming may shape the main show other than the occasional shout out and inside joke that may be missed if you haven't caught up with the streams you expect that having a streamer's component will trim down the show especially during weeks when a huge state of play happens just wanting to celebrate the new direction and can't wait to catch you guys on mondays thanks um so yeah we have to fill everyone in on this as well because i like keeping secrets until they're ready to go so beginning this past monday so just three days ago from when we're recording we started streaming and uh we went live noon eastern it was me and dustin uh we were live for five hours um and i played kingdom hearts and we took a bunch of inquiries from the audience and just dicked around and had a good time it was a great time dude that i don't know if you saw Dustin, like that video is doing really well.
56:36Like people are really enjoying this content. First of all, I never expressed this to anyone, but I was like, maybe we'll get like a few hundred concurrence, right? We maxed out at 2100 concurrence and we weren't doing anything like we were doing nothing. Now there's a novelty factor. So, so there's, we have to incorporate that as well. But let me see what the views are on this video now. Because for us, I mean, these are quaint. It's like 33 ,000 views. That's a lot for us. You know, so people are enjoying the content. It'll be something different. First of all, I wrote a huge letter, really long letter, because it required a lot of explanation of why we're doing this and what's going on.
57:19So just to catch everyone up, you can go on Patreon dot com slash last day media. Check that out. You can also check out the streams. The streams we're going to do every Monday will be live around noon. We'll figure out like a time. I think noon's fine. Gets me out of bed. like gets me going and it's funny to say it gets me out of bed to do something in noon and we're it's going to be a bunch of different stuff so we did the Kingdom Hearts stuff because of the bed I lost with Sacred Symbols Plus but it'll be like I'll play a different game we're going to do the Sacred League which is like the Jeopardy game that I want to do we're going to do that on YouTube during the streams and so on and so forth maybe various conversations I want to like go and watch old E3 press conferences and a lot of old like marketing and stuff I think it's just fun that'll be fun Yeah.
58:02Like I, so there's just a million different things to do and different combinations of people when they're available. So Chris will be around when he's available. Dustin, Dustin, I really liked you in the, in the co-pilot chair for this. Thank you. It was, it was, you did a great job. Um, and the reason that it required so much explanation is because a lot has happened behind the scenes that kind of required us to either fold a show and not replace it or fold a show and replace it. So the big news for people that don't know is my brother Dagan, who's my, actually my first collaborator and last and when we started, knockback in early 2018 he has left the company because he got a new job people that follow the content know Dagan's been struggling and animation the animation industry has been struggling basically Dagan has been an animator for 30 years and a lot of that time he spent at he worked on like Nickelodeon and Disney and stuff but like uh Disney Channel stuff I think and then Cartoon Network whatever but then he ended up at Sesame Workshop and he was there for a really long time and he won an Emmy there as we always talk or whatever and then he ended up leaving and kind of bouncing around from project to project and it's just getting worse and worse out there so he finally scored a job at like a fairly renowned marketing firm and it's like a full-time like in-house animation design creative role but Dagan's assignments Dagan has worked remotely long before COVID and this is on this is not uncommon at all in the creative field but it's like here's i'm just using this as an example like here's the episode you're working on of whatever we need everything by sunday at eight however he does it is up to him he can like work really hard get it done in two or three days and then like sit around for four days he can spread it around or whatever that kind of flexibility allowed him to do the shows with us because he works like a real job but he's like i'll just not work when we do knockback i'll i'll take fridays is to do constellation or whatever but that is no longer possible so with him leaving and not really being available anymore i'm like i don't really want to host constellation but i also don't want to and it's not doing great it's like our really like it's the only show we do that is shrinking frankly um so you can go read the letter about it and so on and so forth but i was like ultimately what we're doing is replacing it with this weekly stream sacred streaming we're calling it the streams will be live on our youtube channel around noon eastern um every monday and you can watch live for free if you miss it you have to support us on patreon in order to get the vod um and we're also i i talked a lot more in our video editor yesterday and he's going to do cut downs of these so we'll have those available so people can kind of get a little sample of them and so on and so forth um so yeah that's like what's happening with that i'm really excited about it i thought it was really fun i and a major thing a major component of the letter i wrote too, is that I'm just, I'm kind of bored and complacent.
1:00:49I'm comfortable. It's, I don't like it. Like I need to do something different, something that's unpredictable. And so this is what it is. And I think it's great. So we'll see what happens. But that's the initiative moving forward. And I imagine I'll be even streaming, frankly, more than just Monday, but Monday's the day I'll definitely do it every day. And, and like I said, too, we'll start streaming states of plays and conferences and big events like that as well although I don't know exactly how I want to play it because like wouldn't it be more fun to do like a state of play stream after it already aired and then we can watch it together pause it examine it go into it as opposed to just watching it live and reacting I just hate react content I just feel like it's so lazy it's like it's it's only you're just reacting you know yeah people like dude it's one of those i get it that
1:01:47Colin Moriarty:uh it is it comes off as lazy when you're just reacting putting it on the like throwing it up obviously we would do so much more than that though the way we would do it wouldn't be lazy yeah but i i wonder it's like so i guess we could do both like we could watch it live but then we can go back through it and scrub through it um yeah because that's what i would really want to do that would be more and we used to do things like that at ign rewind theater um that's what i do yeah whenever whenever like there's like an e3 thing or like if i happen to be streaming i haven't streamed like a live conference in a while but like if there is something i usually like will react in good faith on stream or something and then i'll go back and scrub through certain things and i'll talk about it i think there's like a way to do that kind of content that isn't just like you know bottom of the barrel do you do this face Oh.
1:02:36Yeah.
1:02:36Colin Moriarty:What is it? Oh, yeah. Dude, the soy jacks. Like, I love I love that photo. I love that photo because it really is. It's it's probably so those guys probably got those guys are so famous. Like those people, because I think they were outside of like a chicken restaurant. Yeah, it was like a vegan chicken. Yeah, they're just like they probably just saw, hey, let's take this stupid photo. And they probably understood in the moment when they were taking it. It's like, this is a dumb photo. This would be funny. And the internet was like, we're going to crucify you forever now. You're done. You're done, bud.
1:03:16The other one I like, too, that's newer is the bartender handing the note to the patron. Do you know what I'm talking about? That whoa, Jack. It's the guy. It's like the hipster looking bartender with making a weird face. And he wrote a note to a woman. And it's like, that guy next to you is creeping me out. Put your ponytail on your other shoulder. if you want me to kick it out or something like that. And so people have low jacked that. And it's so funny. It's so the low jack thing is just so funny because it's perfect.
1:03:43Colin Moriarty:It's, it's a good idea for a format of just like, like taking an image and then just like distilling it into like a really awkward trace. I like that. I like the thought process of that. And how disrespectful it is. It is disrespectful. I like, I like it. I also feel like some of them overdo it. Like sometimes it's like, ah, there's too much detail. You can tell when some of them aren't done well, like where there's like there's too much detail in this one or there's an art to it i think like a good a good one um i don't know what the fuck we're talking about it's a sacred symbols of playstation podcast you can talk about whatever you'd like yeah um garrick grover garrick groover i'm sorry i wrote in maybe it was grover that would make more sense but maybe it's garrick grover i don't know hello sacred crew this is my first time writing into the show after being an avid listener for many years last stands newest venture sacred streaming has me excited due to the plethora of possibilities it could provide whether it be seeing colin struggle through kingdom hearts or having you guys watch past the three conferences my question is this if either of you guys were caught jerking off on stream like dsp all those years ago and found out your moans of pleasure were being broadcast to thousands of people how would you react would you fess up immediately or deny you were whacking your gack and try to sweep everything under the rug i'll hang up and listen we've brought this up before because this is the only way i really know this person other than the fact that he has megaman 3 backgrounds which i think is super cool um that's like very nerdy and i would identify that in two seconds so i was like okay this guy's like a an nes fan which is neat but i i'm i don't know how you ever come back from it it's what i was saying about jeffrey toobin do you know who that is yeah the cnn guy right yeah right jeffrey toobin is like a legal analyst at cnn and apparently at like he was at the new yorker or some other thing like where he was on like a zoom call and got caught jerking off by like all of the staff or whatever, like in some meeting.
1:05:29Colin Moriarty:Yeah. On a zoom call on a zoom call. And the crazy thing is, is that CNN still has them on the air and it's all I ever think about when I see him like in a, in a segment, I'm like, what do he must have dirt so deep on people that it's like unbelievable because it's like, why, what, what is the value of this person? Just, you got to go. You're the guy who unfortunate mistake. I don't think you meant to do it, but Oh, wasn't, wasn't the implication no wait wait wait wait the implication with the difference between ds because the dsp guy who i don't know what's that mean by the way dsp dark side phil dark side phil is that it's just his name yeah right right okay so that was seemed to innocent enough as i understand and correct me if i'm wrong the implication of the zoom call was that he was jerking off to someone on that call well right here's here's the issue with it right is that it's a live zoom call right so you've you've willingly joined the call right and then you're doing that on top of it so it's not like look it's it's not like oh uh my camera went live i didn't realize you know that that's embarrassing enough that would be wildly embarrassing enough but at least there would be like some level of like oh well i mean like come on you know like have some grace yeah have some decorum yeah have some grace about the fact that's like ah this clearly wasn't this is a private moment we weren't supposed to see that whatever but like this was done intentionally right on a live call right with the assumption that he couldn't see them right i think or that they couldn't see they couldn't see him yeah which to me like changes the entire if it was just like this dude like went live one day jerking off and and they still had him at CNN I'd be like that's awkward but it's not like there's not like a an element of like creepiness or like or like nefariousness to it like that's just like an unfortunate mistake and like what are we just gonna be immature and like pretend like oh I would never but like the fact that he was on a zoom call that's different i think that changes it so the fact that he is still there is kind of mind-blowing i highly highly recommend people go look up the cnn clip of when he comes back and they explain what happened oh it's so embarrassing dude it is one of the most because it's like this captive female anchor like having to awkwardly interact with him about what he it's like dude it is some of the best tv i ever saw in my life you know what it reminded me of you know what it reminded me of colin the um it reminded me of when uh michael richards went on i think david letterman or something or uh or what jerry seinfeld went on david letterman oh and everyone was laughing or whatever the yeah yeah and they just had to like sit there and like awkwardly like that's a really awkward that is a really awkward moment in television yeah it definitely is what chris is referring to is like michael richards who played kramer on seinfeld had his like you know racist thing at the comedy club or whatever the fuck he was the comedy seller whatever it was it's the only thing i think about when i see the laugh factory logo so it's the first thing i think of it's like oh kramer and that was like what was funny about that is i recall i mean it might have been like a digital camera video but it might have been a flip phone video like like that's how old it is because i think i was in college when this happened or like just leaving college so that's how long ago it was but anyway that was like a big deal obviously with michael richards and later on they had like a whole curbier enthusiasm arc about it and stuff like they laughed it off but in the in the immediate aftermath because it was around when b movie was coming out jerry seinfeld was doing the rounds like the media rounds and was trying to rehabilitate michael richards reasonably enough they're like old friends going back pre-seinfeld and uh there's like there what chris is referring to is a letterman appearance you should people should go look it up it's super awkward because they basically phone him in or he might even be videoed in or whatever but people are like in the crowd not really sure what the make of it so like people are laughing and stuff but it's like not supposed to be a joke and like jerry's getting really annoyed about it and it's really good shit yeah i know exactly what you're talking about he's like on a big video stream right and uh he's saying like i just i i blew i i lost my temper and people are laughing because it's funny it is like it's it's like it's objectively funny dude the situation is so insane that he just like he was at the laugh actor he just shouted the edward like 57 times like some absurd amount of times and then he's on stage being like i i just lost my temper and he's got like some kramer manner or some still because it's like kind of him so people are laughing and he's like i remember jerry's like it's not funny i remember the delivery of that very very stop it it's not funny it's like now it is no you're wrong and you know and by the way jerry you know it is you have to cut the shit yeah comedian has to know it yeah you know better than anyone how funny this is um all right helen keller karate explosion wrote in and said hey cdc i would like to issue a correction but not for you it is for my girlfriend chrissy i typically listen to the podcast while driving to and from work each day sometimes she will call asking what i am doing and I will answer listening to my friends.
1:10:49She hates that. She has stated multiple times to me that not only are you all not my friends, but you do not even know I exist. This is plain wrong. Several years ago, I messaged Colin asking if he and Dagan would cover Silent Hill 2 on Knockback. He said no and be well. Surprise, surprise. She is wrong again. Anyway, I'll go ahead and have Dr. Kevorkian unplug me from the Matrix. Not like this, not like this. Dr. Kevorkian reference. Very interesting, very timely. Chris and I are always talking about timely references. yeah nothing timelier than a dr kevorkian reference i still don't even really know what
1:11:22Colin Moriarty:that is like i know the like the general air the gist of the like what it is kind of but even even then i never really looked into it i don't know why he was like old right that was like what like early 90s it was like the early mid 90s yeah he was it was a it wouldn't even be that big of a deal in fact he might even i gotta look this up before i even really say that he might be like some sort of heroic figure today i'm not sure if that's entirely true but Like he was the guy that was like. Like a physician assisted suicide. OK, so, yeah. But I feel like I don't want to go over my ski pump, Kevorkian wiki, but it's like Jack Kevorkian.
1:12:01Yeah, it's like he was arrested and tried for his role in the voluntary euthanasia of a man named Thomas Uke, who had Lou Gehrig's disease. He was convicted of second degree murder and served eight years of a 10 to 25 year prison sentence. He was released on parole on June 1st, 2007, on condition he would not offer advice about, participate in, or be present at the act of any type of euthanasia to any other person, nor that he promote or talk about the procedure of assisted suicide. So I think it is like a little bit of like a – I don't want to compare him to the Unabomber in some way, and I don't want to make it seem like the Unabomber was a good person.
1:12:35But it's similar where people are like, oh, the Unabomber – like when people read his manifesto. The manifesto, yeah. People are like, huh. like there's that and i think yeah i could see that i mean not enough to know i mean i could
1:12:49Colin Moriarty:i could definitely see that with like lou gehrig's disease like that's maybe one thing if it was like the flu or something the flu yeah just get somebody he's just like oh man this this sinus infection is crazy please kill me all right no problem i'm a doctor apparently i'm reading his wikipedia page now apparently like he was kind of like pursuing the shit since the 50s Like it was known about him that like he was he wanted to assist suicide. Yeah. Well, you know, and apparently he got his whole start in advocating for the harvesting of organs from inmates after they're executed. So he is a little bit of a dark person.
1:13:29I have to read more about him. I don't know like if it's a but yeah, for some reason, the Unabomber came into my mind where people like people all these years later. Now people are circulating the Unabomber's manifesto and they're like, oh, he's a. He had some good points. I'm like, that's interesting because when I was a kid, I've never been being afraid of this guy. They think he was crazy.
1:13:49Colin Moriarty:I always love that. Whenever people have to find a psycho to be like, oh, he's got good points. It's like everybody's got good points. Right. I'm sure. Like, I'm sure. I'm sure. Like, I'm sure. I don't know, man. Like, it's the classic example where I'm like, I'm sure. I'm sure Bin Laden loved dogs. You know what I mean? Like, it's. Whoa. hot take yeah osama bin lad right from right from the horse's mouth dogs are cool you don't got to go to him though you don't got to go to people like that for obvious takes well helen keller karate explosion you exist you're real to me yeah it's real to me damn it legendary director whitley scott returns in imax It's no surprise how fast civilization can disappear.
1:14:41Colin Moriarty:Go! Out there. Just kill or be killed. Jacob Elordi. There are people out there. They need our help. Josh Brolin. Shoot first and inquire afterwards. Margaret Qualley. Ow! Okay, tough guy. And Guy Pearce. Arm up! The Dog Stars. Directed by Ridley Scott. Now playing in theaters. Rated R. Under 17. Not a minute without parent. Alright, let's get into the news. Yeah. it's kind of a vague one to talk about this week, but it's probably the most relevant piece of news in our space in the PlayStation space is what is going on at Santa Monica Studio in terms of the game that's being developed there. People have been circulating this idea for years that there's a sci-fi game being developed and that there might even be two games being developed at Santa Monica at the same time.
1:15:31You assume God of War would probably continue. I think it would be foolish not to maybe continue God of War, especially because you can go to a different Pantheon and reinvent it. And it wouldn't maybe not get old if you just did it every five, six, seven years. But there's Cory Barlog's team and what he's working on. And I think that and I think so. This all refers to a Jason Schreier post on Reset Era, which is the hyper liberal, really shitty video game forum. and they're so mean and like they're just I don't know I don't know what's going on on resetter I don't read it it doesn't seem to be very relevant anymore it comes up less and less and of course that was a spinoff of neo gaff which itself went in its own direction and there's a conversation going on around playstation studios and what the different teams are working on.
1:16:25And this is what Jason Schreier had said in the thread. He said, quote, I'll put it this way. It's not a new IP, but it might feel like one. Maybe that's why people are confused. Please don't ask me more questions about this. If I wind up reporting more information at any point in the future, it will be in an article, not on a forum. I can also confirm that, oh, okay, this is about another source in the thread that is talking about it as well. And he says here, and that sci-fi stuff that people apparently believed for years now is nonsense. I had no information that the new game was sci-fi. I think that that was rumors maybe from other people and probably maybe a conflation of the canceled Santa Monica game from the PS3 slash PS4 era that was a sci-fi game being written by, what was that guy's name?
1:17:13Robert? Is it Robert Moore? Roger Moore is the 007 actor, right? So it'd be Robert Moore, I think, who's the Battlestar Galactica guy. So probably people are maybe conflating those rumors and those leaks. But isn't this fascinating? He says, quote, I'll put it this way. It's not a new IP, but it might feel like one. End quote. What could it be if not God of War? And is it different because it's Atreus? And is that what we really want? Or could it be something else? something different and obscure i don't know i wonder what we think about this um
1:17:57Colin Moriarty:dustin talk to me yeah i was trying to think if they were using some old untapped ip in playstation's catalog like what could it be um and i was having a hard time thinking of something that makes sense um i was thinking about like well is it possible that some of these ips that maybe were with different teams are being moved around like could they be working on a siphon filter game since there's been some activity with siphon filter with playstation plus um i don't know seems like grasping at straws really yeah i mean it would be yeah it is yeah Go on. But I'm not sure just because it's one of those things where it's like you said, he says here.
1:18:50Colin Moriarty:It's not a new IP, but it might feel like one. So. I'm trying to think, has Santa Monica really done anything outside of. God of War, their first game, they only did one other game and it's Connecticut, which was their first game. And God of War was built on the Connecticut engine, but that's not going to be Connecticut. I mean, that would be insane. Connecticut is a racing game. um is there lore probably yeah i'm pretty sure maybe i'm pretty sure jaffe worked on connectica um maybe they can make it work who knows because that's that's the whole point is that he says it will feel like a new ip even though it's not maybe jaffe didn't work on connectica maybe he was familiar with it from yeah the angle of uh the angle of it might feel like a new ip because it's been dormant for so long is an interesting kind of angle do we know do we have any idea at this point who's who's working on this uh non-existent uncharted game well there was the idea that there was like a southern california spinoff studio doing it and now i think the idea is that maybe it's actually being done at naughty dog and that's the the other project that's being worked on and that's what um neil is producing because he's he's in a producer role for the first time um but that's just we don't really know for sure i i 100 i mean i just i just believe 100 that that cassie drake uncharted game is real they blatant i'm sorry they blatantly teased it no one has been able to explain why they did that what the fuck was my well i i my assumption would be that they probably thought it would be ready to go or or they would they would at least thought it would be ready to tease by now like proper yeah i would think so too and then things got and then things clearly i mean things clearly at playstation got shuffled around pretty hard um so yeah i don't really know what to make of this though like i like my first thought was like oh maybe they're handling the uncharted maybe it's possible they seem equipped to do it i mean that would be kind of weird and interesting you know it's um it is in their general wheelhouse um but i don't know if it's yeah i don't know that that's the only thing that jumped out to me it's like a possibility because we still don't really have any concrete information about like who's working on that uh like you said we saw it teased many many years ago so it clearly if it doesn't exist anymore it did exist at some point um maybe it was taken off of it maybe it was like a cyber connect type thing where it was being worked on at some at one studio and then it got taken off uh and shuffled to santa monica i i it's all speculative that's the whole that's all this story is really but that's the only thing that jumps out to me is like it's not a new ip but might feel like one from Santa Monica.
1:21:31Colin Moriarty:Or at least that's one that's in the immediate obvious kind of headspace. I also see here on a Push Square report on this Reset Era post that originally Jason had said, quote, why does everybody think Barlog's game is a new IP? End quote. And that is a reasonable answer because I think there's this rumor of the Atreus game. I think that that's the most likely answer to this question is that it's yeah I did I mean think about it you can't fundamentally make a god of war game that's recognizably god of war as a trace there are I don't is it a spoiler to say like you play as a trace I don't know at this point on on a on a hardcore playstation podcast no it's it's very it's very different when you play as him and so if you're going to frame a game around him and he becomes the god of war or whatever it is but he plays as it plays as a third person shooter a first person shooter i mean yeah i mean that's kind of interesting and that's what i think this might be right i mean how does that strike you immortals of avium style magic shooter basically god of war game maybe that's what it is because if you want you can't do the you can't do the third person action melee combat with him it's not how he fights i think yeah but i think i mean the you place him in the game and it's third person and it works fairly okay i hated it personally but uh it works and it clearly i'm the minority on that so i i think they could maybe flesh that out and there's i i don't think there's any reason to necessarily believe that it would be like a first person shooter but or that they would have to go that in that direction but it would definitely feel very different to the type of melee combat that's in god of war and it would feel so different i would argue as to as to kind of get rid of what sets god of war apart from other other first party uh you know playstation ip which is you know the third person over the camera you know melee and some distance obviously thrown in there as well for you know uncharted and the last of us with with weapon and like gun combat but like atreus to me i didn't like atreus because it felt like i was playing just a different playstation game as opposed to playing god of war the game that i kind of signed up for the game that i want i want to go around and like beat people up with my fists and like tear shit apart i don't want to go around and like shoot a bow or like do like a a spindly little attack i mean like i've got spider-man i've got ghost of shishima i've got like i'm like there's so many other playstation games that do this that like to focus an entire game on atreus would be like genuinely i can't think of anything i would want less yeah i don't I don't hate the idea of having a really high caliber not with again not his parts in the game like you're describing but like a third person or even first person shooter style bow game that's really fine that doesn't turn me off it's that I don't really like that character and to me I don't really feel like he's fine but it's like we don't need per Cassie Drake it's like I saw so much more to like out of Cassie Drake in five minutes at the end of Uncharted 4 than I did in all of this shit with God of War over two games.
1:25:13You know, so. I just so I'm much more intrigued by the possibilities there as opposed to like being exposed to Atreus so much that it really still is about Kratos. Like if they're going to continue God of War, which I assume they will, it's like just go to a different Pantheon with Kratos. It's about him. But are they going to do Dustin? Son of War.
1:25:32Colin Moriarty:Boy of War. Boy of War. Boy. boy i would hope if they do have it be atreus that he is much older um so he's not annoying yeah um and maybe they will do that it's it's hard to say hopefully sony santa monica heard my idea for the next god of war on our spoiler cast which they're welcome to use i won't even use is that i don't need a credit what what was your idea my idea i guess this is getting to spoilers for the new god of war so skip ahead if you need to my idea was that now that Kratos is retired and comfortable in whatever the not the Greek but the Norse the Norse pantheon the other pantheons are like oh shit this guy went and fucked up these two pantheons right right right we got to go take this guy out before he gets to us so that's a great idea Kratos is now in a state of defense and a misunderstanding.
1:26:32Colin Moriarty:I guess half a misunderstanding. I love that idea. I forgot about that from the spoiler cast. That's a great idea. Yeah, to like have like the Egyptians or whatever. And the other pantheons would be cool. It would be cool actually if it was one specific pantheon that like it would be like the Egyptian pantheon or whatever that was like threatened by like a preemptive fight. I love that. Right. I love that. That's a great idea. Brilliant. They can use it. They can redo the whole thing. start from scratch, Corey. So yeah, I do wonder, I do wonder if they have two games kind of in concurrent development.
1:27:08What is their head count right now? 250. I don't think so. I mean, maybe if you had, I mean, that's, that's, that's one triple a team in my opinion by Sony standards, but who knows? Um, if it's something that's a Treyas based, I think that'll be fine. I just, I want to see what it is. And I love magic shooters. So the idea that and that's a really, I think, in my opinion, an underserved kind of market in FPS or magic shooters. That's what and part of what I thought made Immortals of Avium so special was how different it felt, like fundamentally different from other games, even though it's a first person shooter at heart.
1:27:48So I don't hate the idea. I just don't really feel like that's the right idea for God of War. And yeah, one last Sony likes trilogies typically and sometimes they'll go a game beyond, sometimes they'll stop after two but trilogies are kind of the sweet spot and maybe they want to wrap it up with something like Duffton was saying and then put God of War on the shelf for a while and you can reinvent it down the line you're going to want to do that but put it away for the time being be very interested to see what they're working with but we do have some letters from the audience here, we might have gone through them
1:28:23let's see oh yeah okay we already kind of went through this so i won't read that jeffrey willingham wrote in jeffrey willingham this is hey cdc i wanted to get your input on something that game journalists do that drives me nuts the general award of gaming jason schreier that's not very nice said cory but i mean is he really that bad like i don't like jason he we have I used to like him, but he's been he's just not been nice to me. And he's been a weirdo to some people. But, you know, just like weirdos are wrong term. He's been not nice to a lot of people, but I don't think he's the genital ward of gaming.
1:29:05Said Corey Barlog is working on an existing IP and it will surprise people. Why do people in games media just leave these little trails of hints and seemingly never just outright say what they know? if you're going to say something doesn't it just make sense to say the totality of what you know it just seems like certain people really get off on being in the know am i being crazy or do you guys also find this annoying thank you and take care dustin what are your thoughts on this yeah
1:29:27Colin Moriarty:i find it a little annoying um because i also find it weird like when people are talking about having a game early um something on my old website years ago we always used to say like when we would review games early. It was like, don't brag about having a game early because everyone finds it annoying. Let your brag or whatever you want to say be the content you make about the game. Be proud of that, not just having access. So putting little crumbs out and stuff is annoying. I totally agree. I'm not privy to very much information ever. Sometimes people tell me small little things, but very, very rarely.
1:30:11Colin Moriarty:I have no interest in leaking anything because I think it... I guess, depending on the situation, maybe. But for the most part, I feel like it's such a career risk to leak something and then either a plan's change or something like that. So I usually just try to take that information to inform my own analysis of different situations. So not that I think nobody should leak because I think there is potentially a lot of benefit that you can get from it, but it's not my thing. And leaving little clues to feel holier than thou, not really that fun either. What do you think, Chris? I think send me everything you got if you're listening to this.
1:30:55Colin Moriarty:If you work it, I'll leak literally anything you want me to do. I wouldn't even take much for it. Honestly, I don't even need anything in return. I just kind of want to do it. Yeah. You don't need any controlling something. we do a little troll we do we do a little we do a little leaking yeah
1:31:17yeah I can see why people would interpret Jason like this he has a kind of swarmy way about him and I get that people interpret it that way again I do think calling him what did he call him I have the genital wart the genital wart of gaming I think that's a little harsh it's a bit harsh it's a little bit harsh. There are way worse people than Jason Schreier in the industry. And I think people are really quite harsh on Jason generally like above and beyond what he quote unquote deserves or like what would be their equivalent response to his crimes, which is just being unpleasant sometimes on social media or dismissive or whatever to people.
1:31:56It's like, it's not that big of a deal. I mean, let's get our shit. There's like people that are really fucking undermining and destroying our space. And those are the genital warts and worse. the STDs, the various STDs of gaming. I don't think Jason's one of those people. Not even close. But yeah, he does seem to have a tendency to do this sort of thing. And then saying like, please don't ask me anymore. If I, it's like, all right, dude, no one was asking you really to begin with. You kind of put yourself in this position of being the person who people come to is knowing these sorts of things.
1:32:33um i'm kind of torn on leaking i leak things so it's not like i'm above it but i try really hard to keep what the things that i do know to myself and not let it even paint what my analysis would otherwise be um because things are i know lots of people that work on these games and work in these studios and i don't ever i never approach anyone and ask them anything never like it does it like when i was a journalist i did but these last 10 years or so i've people come to me and people old friends you know i might try drop a little teaser be like oh i hope uh i'll say things like if someone texts me about something else i'd be like oh i hope you're having a great time making you know i could just kind of put a little seat out there or whatever and see what, you know, and see what kind of response I get or whatever.
1:33:25But I feel like the leaking, and I'm sure this Jason, it's the same thing with him too. I have no doubt. It's like this kind of stuff is contingent on why people are telling me things. The amount of stuff that I could quote unquote leak is pretty enormous actually, historically and contemporary contemporarily. But these things were told to me by people that were just talking to me off the record and trusting me. And so I don't say those kinds of things. And that's the kind of thing where you won't even, you won't even find breadcrumbs of any of that stuff in the things that I say, like, cause I'm not going to tip my hand.
1:34:00It's not my place to do so, but people that I've said it before, you're told things off the record. So that's not to be distributed. You're told by things on the record, which is that you could say it, publish it and put the person's name on it. And then what you are usually told is the third option in the middle, which is on background. And that's saying like, yes, this thing is happening. You can use it to inform other reporting. You can report about it, but it's not an on the record primary sourced thing. And that's where the leaks come from. So there are people that I know that are installed in various places around the industry, not all at game studios.
1:34:41There are like lots of companies that work with game studios. There are lots of companies that work with publishers. There are a lot of people that are privy to this stuff. I think people would be surprised by how many people know plans. You could be at some random company working on a license on something and have full information about something that is years away from being announced. Those people randomly message me things all the time. If I could corroborate, if I'm interested in the information and can corroborate it, then I'll report on it. I've had misses in the past, things that were totally 100 % true.
1:35:11I've said before that Wolverine was one of them. We've talked about in the past, like someone told me about Wolverine like a year or two before it was ever announced. And I'm like, that's fucking nonsense. They're not making a Wolverine game. And they had all this information. I didn't even pursue it. And then there it is. So sometimes my instincts are awful and I don't even follow through on the things that are real. It may end up being right, though. Yeah, I mean, who the fuck knows at this point? I honestly couldn't care less about that game. The only thing I care about is how many resources that Insomniac got sucking up while they could be working on something else.
1:35:44and all this license shit coming from that was a little boring but whatever it sells um so yeah jeffrey thank you for writing in let's go a little easier on jason you know maybe we change people by treating them differently or assuming different things about them doesn't always work but it's not a bad thing to have blow up in your face because you did the right thing in my right so like okay so you so you were wrong and he really is a awful person And it's like, okay, well, at least you gave him the benefit of the doubt. And you can say that and internalize that as part of your equation. All right.
1:36:20So we'll keep an eye on what's going on with the son of war. What if they really named it that?
1:36:27Colin Moriarty:Son of war. It's not awful. I just. Yeah, it is. Yeah. All right. Yeah. Yeah, it is. It's pretty bad. Son of war, dude. Son of war. Atreus of war. baby of baby of combat baby of combat it's ridiculous
1:36:50oh god all right this um so last week there was the i just remembered that that got a war clone
1:36:59Colin Moriarty:on on the xbox store it was like god zeus god of zeus war child or something yeah and it was it was just trying to get all the words in for the search so when someone searched god of war on Xbox. It would come. You can see through that shit a mile away. It's so funny. Awesome. So last week, there was a state of play for Ghost of Yote. Did either of you watch that? No, I skimmed it because I honestly like I don't know. I haven't seen that much of Ghost of Yote and I'm kind of interested in it or I'm kind of like kind of excited about it, but I'm not like i'm not married to the idea of like a media blackout on it so i did watch a little bit of it um there's some interesting stuff in there yeah the state of play has 3.1 million views 172 000 upvotes which is great 12 000 downvotes pretty nice for playstation these days they'll probably take it they'll be like oh thank god they're not upset the uh they don't want to fuck the samurai character what are we gonna do you know she's not fuckable enough it's like oh my god shut the fuck up.
1:38:07Can't take it anymore. But yeah, I'm on media blackout just because I'll play it. And I'm not that excited about it. I think it's going to be great. I wasn't really that into Ghost of Tsushima. I thought it was a great game. It just, I don't know. I'm just not that into it. But I'll play it day one and I'll buy it. And so I don't need to see any more of it. And that'll be more surprising, more fun. But that did happen. And it's there on, it's almost, it's 19 minutes long. It's on PlayStation's YouTube channel. And you can go check that out there if you'd like. So watch that. But as part of that entire thing, they also revealed, and this is more newsworthy for us here on the show, is there'll be a Ghost of Yotei limited edition console launch, as well as controllers and covers for your PlayStations.
1:38:45So the PS5 console, they write Ghost of Yotei Gold limited edition bundle will be available globally and is inspired by the Japanese art form Kintsugi, a traditional process of repair broken ceramics with lacquer and gold. the design captures the essence and aesthetic of kintsugi symbolizing beauty and imperfection and mirroring its atsu's own personal journey of healing and resilience amidst the adversary adversary she'll face along the way it looks really nice actually white with gold accents some gray accents the controller is nice it's a little messy i'm not this is not a controller for me especially because there's another run of controllers i want to talk about after this but the good news is the console itself will be available at direct.playstation.com but obviously if you already own a console they've done the right thing here and made it so that you can buy the plates for either the ps5 slim edition or the ps5 pro so not for the original ps5 model and the controller will also obviously be available separately so you can check those things out.
1:39:46The options are PS5 console, Ghost of Yote Gold limited edition bundle, the PS5 console covers, the PS5 Pro console covers, and the DualSense controller. And then of course, you can also buy the limited edition games as well that have already been announced. Dustin, any interest in this? This is nice. Not for me, but nice. I like it. Yeah. Yeah.
1:40:11Colin Moriarty:I think that for as many ant or not consumer friendly moves playstation has made they have taken some that i think we should applaud them for one of them is this ability to swap out the face plates and offering the special edition consoles as just the face plates that's nice they've done a couple other things like the m.2 slot being able to upgrade with whatever um you know storage you like pretty nice so i appreciate that as far as these controllers i think i like uh i like the gold console the gold controller someone on twitter said it looked like a shit smear on the side and i can't unsee it now yeah i can see that you know it looks like it's got a little shit on it so not as big of a fan of that one the black one's cool too i don't need any more controllers uh And even if I did, I like these.
1:41:08Colin Moriarty:I don't love them, but I think they're a nice option for people. Any interest in these for you, Christopher? Not personally. I mean, I think it's smart to do. Obviously, I just the design doesn't really speak to me. I also am just not in the market for anything that they're selling. Really, like I'm kind of like in Dustin's boat, too, where it's like I have so many PS5 controllers as is already. and if i if i for some reason needed more i would probably go for the 30th anniversary gray one well that's what i wanted to get into brian mcintosh wrote into us and said hello all public service announcement i haven't seen widely reported but on regional playstation x accounts like the playstation uk playstation has announced a limited run of 30th anniversary goods console portal and controllers available for pre-order from july 21st at 10 a.m for PS Plus members only.
1:42:01I will get the controller as I miss it the first time. Have a good day. So this is true over at the PlayStation UK Twitter account. It says, quote, the 30th anniversary PS5 Digital Edition console bundle, 30th anniversary DualSense wireless controller, and 30th anniversary PlayStation Portal will have a limited restock launching on September 29th. Pre-order in the UK exclusively on direct.playstation.com in highly limited quantities while supplies last. PlayStation Plus members get pre-order early access on July 21st at 10 a.m. And that's British Standard Time with pre-orders for all players on July 23rd at 10 a.m.
1:42:32I couldn't find this replicated on the American, you know, the U.S. account. And so I don't, and the language is a little, it's, I don't know exactly what they're saying because it says, quote, pre-order in the UK exclusively on direct.playstation.com. Are they saying that it's only for UK customers or that the UK customers have to exclusively use direct.playstation.com? You know what I mean? It's unclear exactly what they mean. In other words, will this be available in other regions? And my assumption is no, because they probably have such a limited quantity that maybe they're only selling it in one territory and that's why it's not being more widely reported on these other platforms.
1:43:04But I'm wondering what this is all about. I assume that this is probably excess stock that they've had the entire time that maybe they were waiting for returns and you don't want to oversell obviously and then you have to get rid of the rest of the shit because you all wouldn't print this again in a limited way. I don't know why you would do that and undercut the entire purpose of it. It's not the 30th anniversary anymore. Yeah. So the, the, again, that portal is so tempting, but I don't even know if this will be available for me at all. So, cause I don't, we're not in the UK, obviously I, I could use another controller.
1:43:41I have dropped my 30th anniversary controller on the hardwood floor so many times at this point that I think it's started. I think the, like the engines inside, like the, the vibe, the rumble engines are starting to like, they may, they're allowed and they, I'm like, it shouldn't be this like this. something's broken in here. Totally my fault. I mean, I've dropped it. Like, Micah just looks at me now. It's like, it's just dry. Because I have it on my, on the arm of my. The arm of the couch. Yeah. Or the chair. And then I just always just elbow it off. Like, it's like, it's so stupid. So those are available.
1:44:15Seems like maybe only in the UK. Keep an eye out. July 21st. So in the coming days, actually, July 21st will be the day that this goes live for everyone on free feed. So you'll know. So if you're on Patreon, you'll have a little bit of time to adjust. All right, let's talk about The Last of Us because we have to talk about it. The Last of Us Season 2 on HBO, Corey, our friends over at Push Square, gets 16 Emmy Award nominations. It received 24 for the first season, so it is eight fewer, as they note here. However, 16 is still a really incredible number. the last of us season two has been nominated in the following categories best drama series best actor in a drama series best actress in a drama series best guest actor in a drama series best guest actress in a drama series and then outstanding production design casting picture editing contemporary makeup prosthetic makeup music supervision short form non-fiction or reality series sound editing for a comedy or drama sound mixing for a comedy or drama special visual effects in a season or movie.
1:45:20We'll see how many they win. Dustin, does this show that we are a little bit disconnected from the reality of how the show did and was received by a majority of its audience?
1:45:31Colin Moriarty:I know so little about the Emmys and honestly, TV, prestige TV in general. Right now, I know that like Severance and that show, the studio also had a lot of nominations. if I recall correctly they were nominated a lot last time but did not really win any of the big ones right I'll look now best drama or best actor or anything like that I would predict that that will be the same thing especially with them being up against severance but again I'm totally disconnected from TV maybe there's another show like I don't know I'm assuming White Lotus or whatever is nominated for a bunch of stuff but i'm just totally disconnected from that world but yeah here it is prime time creative emmys so yeah one outstanding prosthetic makeup outstanding special visual effects in a season or a movie outstanding main title design outstanding sound editing for a comedy or drama outstanding sound mixing for a comedy or drama oh i guess twice i don't know how that's possible outstanding picture editing for a drama i've never heard of what'd you say there are shows on here that are nominated i've never even heard of them yeah so yeah they didn't win any of the the big ones but being nominated is a pretty big deal so yeah it says here on wikipedia cumulatively between shows i guess that matter that they've won um 86 awards on 237 nominations between all these different shows so pretty good but yeah i do feel what do you think chris do you think that there's a disconnect between the way the show is received more publicly i mean i've said before that the people in my life that don't play games loved it so yeah and it's a small anecdotal sample size but notable it's possible i mean i i don't know to me i look at it as like it's eight fewer emmy nominations right than last time yeah eight fewer well that kind of says something yeah sure you know i think uh i don't think it was a cat i don't think it was a catastrophe like people would suggest necessarily but i also do feel like it's definitely i think the general consensus is that it is a weaker season than the first season and uh that's probably reflected in in some way but it's still it's an hbo show so like even if it even if it is like a weaker kind of hbo show generally speaking hbo is pretty good so i i kind of feel like it's an awkward territory kind of where like i feel like a lot of people a lot of people are not gonna have a problem with it but dude i knew people who were like oh yeah i love the halo tv show and i'm like god bless god bless i wish but uh i mean good for them for the 16 nominations i I don't, I didn't really, I was not interested in season two at all.
1:48:29Colin Moriarty:I don't know. I watched a little bit of it and I was like, I just kind of fell off. I wasn't in the right place for it or something. Yeah, I think it was, so for people that don't know, we covered all seven episodes, Dustin, me and Micah on Sacred Symbols Plus. So there are seven episodes. If you want to have like a companion as you watch it yourself, you can check that out on patreon.com slash last day media. They're there for you. But for me, I think it was largely a miss because I think though well executed in a lot of different ways, I'm just too familiar with the subject matter and am confused.
1:49:05As I said many times, if you're going to have a, if you're going to represent the last of us in television format, then you have to kind of justify why you're not doing it in certain ways. and
1:49:19it bothers me that I don't know it just bothers me that like they didn't justify why the story really you know Neil said on the show that we did the episode that I did with him where he was talking about delivering something for a television audience and the difference between the game and how we have 30 hours with the game and all this kind of and I totally get that it totally makes sense and they have to move quicker and all that and so you have to change pacing and all that but i just would have done things a lot differently and i do think that the casting decisions especially with with ellie just really shown through a lot worse this time around and and it really did come it didn't bother me as much at all really the first season and it bothered me a lot the second season the more it went on where i'm like yeah this was a bad this is probably not a good choice for this character because it doesn't she's not reading properly anymore and her whole personality and persona is different and it's really important to the show to the game like it's important in the narrative like who ellie is and your relation to her is really important to the narrative so um so yeah i don't know it's strange i i don't know what they're gonna do with kind of getting it back on track especially that neil's no longer going to be involved but they'll figure it out and there is a story a related story from variety the publication that covers television and movies in that industry that we cite often when we're talking about these sorts of issues with PlayStation productions.
1:50:43HBO Max boss Casey Bloys on The Penguin Season 2, What's Next for The Last of Us, and If He'd Ride a Plane Piloted by Nathan Fielder is the story over on Variety. And so it's a pretty interesting interview if you want to go check it out. But there is information here about The Last of Us and what their feel is on what they're going to do. So Variety asks, the big news for The Last of Us was Neil Druckmann stepping away. Can you talk a little bit about that from HBO's perspective, what that meant for you and talking to Craig Mason about where things go now in season three? He says, quote, Obviously, it was great to have Neil involved in the beginning.
1:51:16The whole reason that I wanted to do The Last of Us is after Chernobyl, I said to Craig, what do you want to do next? And The Last of Us was what he wanted to do. That's what was most important to me, Craig's creative excitement about the show. It was fantastic to have Neil involved. A lot of people don't realize that Neil has a full-time job creating video games and running Naughty Dog. It's a really why he needs to focus on that, but I believe he's given us a good blueprint with the show. Obviously, Craig is a pro, so I think we'll be in excellent shape. I'm not worried at all. Then Variety asks, can season three make the 2026-2027 TV season?
1:51:46What's the timeline? If it follows the game, will that be the final season? He says, quote, the series is definitely planned for 2027. Craig is still working it out whether it will be two more seasons or one more long season. It hasn't been decided yet, and I'm following Craig's lead on that. what are our thoughts on this Dustin since you watched you'll probably have more insight here than Chris perhaps what do you want to see do you want one longer season or do you want them to kind of split this up and do I guess Abby's perspective and then the kind of Santa Barbara chapter perhaps is the last season I hope it's just one long season
1:52:27Colin Moriarty:because man with tv now there's the time between seasons is so long there's been a lot of discussion about this because the final season of stranger things is was just revealed and it's been like man it's only been it's ridiculous yeah it's nine years or something absurd totally absurd um it should have been done in 2020 or something yeah yeah well and from a personal perspective too i I just watched season three of squid game and they broke that season up. Like it was clearly meant to be like season two and three was meant to be one season, but Netflix being Netflix chopped it in half so they could get two subscription months out of people like me.
1:53:11Colin Moriarty:And it fucking works, unfortunately. But when I started up the third season, I was like, man, I would have just liked to watch this all at once. Uh, there was no reason for them to do this. And now I'm sitting here trying to fucking remember what happened. And so I would like it to be just one season for the last of us. But why would you do that when there's an incentive to make it to, you know, because then you can double the amount of people that sign up just for that two marketing blitzes. so i guess they do run the risk that i guess that if people don't like the third season that you might have diminishing returns with the fourth season but probably not based on how overall people have received season two so it'll probably be two and it'll probably be fucking i don't know 2030 when this is over yeah 20 i mean 2027 is crazy but i get it they probably won't even be written until early next year then you got to get it going obviously post production on a show like this is probably extreme maybe not extreme but heavy extreme would be like a sci-fi show maybe but definitely heavy because i was saying that um when i was talking to sony when i had neil on they were saying that they were they were sending screeners out without special effects in them like done because like they were so close to the line of getting things done and that's uh pretty interesting especially because i don't know i know so little about television production that it's interesting that the same exact shit happens there yeah like early access yeah it is interesting and uh remember we were talking about what was that oh cats when they like had they basically remember the movie cats and they like patch oh yeah they cgi'd they patch the uh the buttholes off the cats i forgot about that that is a classic that was like just at the beginning of the pandemic right like or like something just right around there yeah definitely it was just before it was that christmas there was the christmas before i think and it was like man that was the last big big hurrah for movie theaters before the world shut down yeah it was like that's what that's what shepherded us in to the uh the epidemic couldn't catch a better vibe going into the going into covid than that but um yeah it is interesting man like because i've i've seen over where over where i am it's a very like movie kind of production centric place and so like you'll often get like things in the mail or just like people kind of on the street being like hey pre-screening for this movie that's not going to come out for another like six months or whatever and you'll get to see it they take your phone or whatever uh make you sign like something you're not going to say anything about it and then you'll see like straight up just like unfinished it's weird seeing an unfinished movie in a theater it's a very surreal like very strange experience because she's like oh it kind of feels like you're in the editing room almost it's very bizarre it's cool i like that kind of stuff like exposing people to work and seeing you gotta if you have the means if you're spending a lot of money especially on something it's like you really should spend some of that money on making sure people are gonna like it it's good to like focus test um and i've never i've never been included in any of that stuff before i never really i don't think like my sister ally she she doesn't talk about it she's like very strict about it she's for many years has been in Amazon's preview program where she gets like really early access to like all the Amazon TV shows and movies and stuff.
1:56:41And she gives feedback on it, but she like can't talk about it. And she really doesn't. It's really funny, but she really enjoys that whole process. And I'm like, yeah, that's kind of cool. It's like being a Nielsen family back in the day. I always wanted to be a Nielsen family.
1:56:52Colin Moriarty:It is. It's so crazy that that was like even a thing though. Like what? Like six people decided everything basically. It's like, oh my God. it's so interesting like that's such that's such power back in the day and they every empires rose and fall based on those numbers it's crazy when you think about it because it's crazy that they couldn't figure out who was watching what that's not a problem anymore they really do know who was watching what now but during the cable era it's like you don't know how many people are watching hbo how is that possible like it's isn't it how many people are drawing the signal from you you can't count that number you have to have you have to put like a random sampling of boxes through a third party company into people's houses i'm pretty sure there was a rose an episode of rose where they got a nielsen box i don't think i'm making that up and that was like a whole arc that's that sounds real um yeah it never happened to us though never happened in the moriarty family i always wanted to get that knock on the door it was always jehovah's witnesses i only ever gave feedback on one i saw why him which is like a brian cranston james franco like comedy in like theaters like six months and i gave notes and i remember there's a scene that i hated and it's not in the it's not in the movie oh interesting it's interesting yeah that is interesting that's funny i saw recently that the fantastic four film that is coming out with pedro pascal in it that they cut like an entire villain out of it apparently and i wonder i wonder if that came came through feedback i don't know enough about about but i just saw that on my feed where they're like this character he's like some red character they're like they just cut him out of the film oh cool i'm sure that's that bodes very well yeah fantastic four is kind of cool i guess i'm interested in the 60s vibe that they're that they're putting on the marketing material it's like it looks different enough i might check it out i think it would be really difficult though for me to care yeah i'm just like especially because again i just feel like superman was really good like it was really fun and so like fantastic four is just fantastic four by comparison even i always thought superman was kind of lame but like fantastic four by comparison is like oh my god i can't even tell you i can't even tell you how lame i thought the fantastic four was like the jumpsuits and flame on oh my god i kind of like i like the human torch personally but yeah you gotta it's it's so it's very campy like i think they can do it right i just i just i can't vision it i'll i'll probably check it out i'm in a movie mood lately yeah the it's interesting like i think that who fantastic four was under i think during the marvel stuff it was paramount that got fantastic four right and so they kept making fantastic four movies because they had to do it to keep the license that's why spider-man keeps was it it was one of those coming and i think that that was why the fox yeah yeah it's like and so they just like beat it into the ground because they couldn't they couldn't get like a new one that people cared about off the ground to do sequels so they had to keep it's like shit it's been seven years if we don't exercise the license we lose it we got to just make a fantastic four movie and yeah i'm pretty sure that's why those things happened for so long which is so funny for sure which is so fun but i don't blame them because they got that when marvel was in the shit they got those companies got amazing deals that are like i think perpetual or 99 years or something something crazy like that as long as they keep exercising that's why sony makes spider-man movies and that's it's right x-men movies which i think x-men finally is getting incorporated into the mcu right which is like a huge yeah because fox owned the x-men and fox was bought by disney and so now that now they have they did that whole deadpool and wolverine movie um that kind of set all that stuff up right right it's so funny that they these companies are so stubborn that they didn't realize very early on that they should have all been collaborating with each other that it shouldn't have been something that you like have to extract spider-man appearing in civil war or something it's like what are you doing like this should have been something that happened sony should have been like we should we got to get involved in this now as opposed to as opposed to it's just crazy to me that they like can't figure out we can all make billions of dollars and it's like no i want to know yeah no screw that i want to make a venom trilogy with no spider-man in it right they did that right it's crazy i've not seen a single venom movie like at all like i don't i don't know anything about them but the fact that there's a vet there is a live action Venom trilogy where hundreds of millions of dollars were spent on it.
2:01:23Colin Moriarty:There's a Kraven the Hunter movie. That's right. That's right. It's crazy. Beating it in the ground. Commerce, man. Commerce just fucks everything up. People can't just be rich. They don't know how to just be rich. Just make a little bit of like just make some millions, tens of millions, hundreds of millions of dollars. We were talking about Mike and I were walking the dogs last night and she had brought up that guy that was touring with the Annabelle doll or whatever. is it died do you know i'm talking about the annabelle yeah it's annabelle right the the horror movie the real yeah like the real annabelle doll and he he was like touring with it but like he wasn't supposed to move it and people are saying it was cursed and then he ended up dying on this tour or whatever and anyway it brought up the annabelle movies because i think the guy that that wrote or um directed the annabelle movies wasn't responsible for until dawn and i was telling micah that i was so i was researching and we said it on the shows at the time that i was researching and i'm like dude these movies each made like 300 million dollars and they each cost like 10 do you have any idea how much money these guys just fucking made on this and then so it makes perfect sense why they're willing to be like yeah we'll do a fucking shitty and told on movie who cares like that's the spirit i love you know in other words is like you're so rich who even gives a shit anymore why do you have to be crazy you know yeah and i think our movies are good for that our movies are are the the biggest return on investment i think because you can make them relatively cheaply if you know what you're doing and it's the that one type of movie where like it seems like it draws a lot of people to the theater on like a friday night or whatever just to like who just all it's crazy like the amount of profit and then yeah and then there's these companies that are like no we need to spend 300 million dollars to make 500 million it's like okay it's crazy yeah whatever you say we have to spend 300 million dollars to break even it's like all right awesome good to put you to bought a cd all right next news this is an interesting piece of news this comes from the website we do site every once in a while mpfirst.com i have to i have to remember dustin do you remember there's a connection between mpfirst and the guy that founded second wind right like didn't he found uh mp i have no idea about that yeah all right well i'm sorry no uh i thought your lore would be a little bit deep your industry lore would be a little bit deeper but you're coming unfortunately not in that area yeah coming up empty on this one that's all right i'm sorry i didn't mean to put you on the spot anyway mp first wrote in report concept art emerges for deviation games canceled PS5 shooter.
2:04:14And they basically point to a, um, imager account with 13 images from a concept artist. Um, hold on a second. Oh yeah. Continue without. And it's nothing in game, but it's just an image of, you know, some sci-fi imagery of like a planet and stars and kind of a skyscape. And then this bearded character with like red hair, red kind of well cut beard, some interesting technologies like a glove that looks like it has some sort of weapon on it unclear if it's a gun or some sort of melee thing probably a melee thing of some sort and some pistols and an assault rifle so nothing too crazy but really the only look we've gotten at this deviation game cancelled second party game for people that don't remember Jason Blundell who was long time designer at Treyarch on the Call of Duty games and was specifically one of the guys responsible for the zombies mode that became very popular he left Treyarch early during COVID.
2:05:11And he collaborated with Dave Anthony to found a studio in 2021 called Deviation. And then you'll recall that Deviation at that time announced a second party deal with PlayStation. This was around the time that Haven also came on board and Firewalk, which is the studio doing Concord came on board. So Sony was deploying. And this is where I think that the The money was... The decisions ended up being bad, but it's well spent. Second party partners fueling the developers without owning them, seeing what games in the multiplayer space they get off the ground. The products ended up being Concord, which is obviously already dead.
2:05:52Fair Games is coming soon, and there was this mysterious deviation game that they announced that year as well, but Blundell left the studio in 2022, and then by 2023, as reported first here on sacred symbols the game was canceled and most of the team was laid off and they later shut the studio down completely uh at the end of that year as i recall because they were originally working looking for contract work or maybe for someone to pick up what they were doing why this is relevant is because jason blundell in the interim was then hired back at sony internally and incubated a team which is now a first party team that is unfortunately called dark outlaw games um and i'm not crazy about that name but maybe it'll grow on me I don't know.
2:06:34And they're working on some sort of multiplayer game, but we don't really know. So it could be this. What I've said since the deviation game was canceled is that Sony owned that IP as far as I would understand. I mean, we don't really know what it would have been. They were funding the game. So it's conceivable that they would have not been impressed with the studio, especially when Jason left and they might've been there because Jason was the talent that they wanted. And we're like, we'll just kind of take this and give it to him. and they can kind of continue on this idea and work on it. And you guys are kind of done.
2:07:06You can figure out what you're going to do, but the contract's over. That was always kind of the vibe that I got from it because it would be weird for them to have worked on something. And then it wasn't working out at all. And then they're like, yeah, we want to work with you again. It would be like them rehiring the director of Concord. Like, why would you do that? So obviously they liked what he was doing. He probably had some differences of opinion. I don't really know for sure behind the scenes. there's something to this story. Don't you think Dustin? I mean, there's gotta be something to blundle reemerging at PlayStation studios in a first party capacity, not even a second party capacity.
2:07:42And so this very game that we're seeing here in this art, which people can go check out on MP first.com might be a one in the same. Yeah,
2:07:51Colin Moriarty:certainly possible that they are one in the same. I think your line of thinking is, you know, potentially accurate. I gotta say though, this concept art, um you could tell me this concept art was for con like early concord concept art um it's just kind of generic yeah overall it comes from 2020 by the way so we have to look at it through that lens apparently it's meditated 2020 meditated 2020 okay yeah um but yeah i mean the concept certainly nothing about it is bad but i don't think there's really anything to read into it other than it's definitely sci-fi inspired guns and gear and there's a hipster looking guy you know so it's cool we get to see this um but clearly at this point seeing this art what i gather is that this game didn't have much of an identity uh at this point this is probably still in the trying to figure out yeah they were probably pitching to sony at this point or to others maybe yeah right chris any thoughts here do you want to see more of this uh what what dustin has deemed generic sci-fi shooter work i i agree with them i don't see anything unique here but again this is not unlike what any game looks like when it's in in this level of pitching it's not even pre-production because it's not been probably yeah yeah some of this looks generic i think this the the shot of the guy looks generic and you know the the space clouds like okay sure i've seen that the glove looks kind of interesting but that kind of is bordering on that but like this i have to say there's something about this pistol with like the green almost like 90s like calculator or like catch register screen like on the side of it that looks kind of interesting to me like i don't know what it i think it's like this like weird mash of like retro it reminds me of like if we're sort of like old doom like doom one or something like this weird screen on the side like i'm kind of into that and this this one thing with like the with the rosary beads kind of yeah that was around the gun yeah that's cool i don't know that it it's generic but there is something here i do kind of i dig these like little like um analog tech flourishes but like that's really only with the weapons it seems like and they those seem to be weapon skin so it doesn't even really seem like it's because this pistol is the same exact pistol like there's two versions of the pistol or three i think actually that have kind of like um just different different skins yeah different skins right so yeah i mean i don't know i'm not really that transfixed by it i i i'm not sad that we don't get this but i do like this like i do like the green the green rectangle with like calculator text on it yeah it's cool for the ammo counter i I think that's cool.
2:10:40Colin Moriarty:You know what? It reminds you of system old system shock and stuff like that. Sure. It's cool. Yeah, it might be. It's just an interesting little piece of ephemera just from the concept, the conceptual phase of the game. It might be all we ever see of this particular project. So what would be interesting to say the game is certainly running and they probably had things going with it. I would be really interesting to see what it was because unlike those other two deals with Haven and Concord, we know what they are. We never really even got an announcement like this was definitely the worst one which really says something or something like again it could be that like there was just a it seemed like there was a falling out at the studio and that kind of stuff doesn't work out well for the non creatives and I think that that's what ended up happening not with the people that got laid off but in terms of the leadership Sony obviously went with the designer and brought them in and are spending serious money on them so we will see what happens but go check that out if you want you can look for yourself let's see oh we had a letter there but i didn't read it okay this is interesting this also comes from mp first and uh so shout out to them for having two oh you know what this is you know what i didn't know this i wonder if this is going to be happening more often this is written by that x test ecstasies ecstas e-x-t-a-s-1-s this is a leaker of some repute um so maybe he's working here now or maybe he's always worked there and we just didn't notice but i know that name from because we've definitely cited him before so maybe this is why but he writes on the website quote following the success of dragon quest 3 hd 2d remake square enix looks to re-release another entry in the franchise mp first has learned that square enix is currently developing a remake of dragon quest seven fragments of the forgotten past the beloved 2000 classic originally released for the first playstation this information comes from internal documents we've seen that outline several upcoming projects tied to the publisher's top franchise all scheduled for this fiscal year or early next year the keyword here is remake they write and that's exactly how it's labeled internally this distinction is crucial as square enix has previously referred to other updated dragon quest titles such as dragon quest 3 4 and the upcoming 1 and 2 as hd remakes the explicit use of the term remake strongly suggests a more ambitious reimagining of dragon quest 7 than a simple graphical upgrade while the full scale of the remake remains unknown at this point the fact that the company itself refers to it as a remake and not a remaster speaks volumes square enix typically reserves this terminology for projects involving significant changes whether in visual gameplay or structure rather than one-to-one ports with visual polish.
2:13:11Dustin, what are your thoughts here? Dragon Quest 7 perhaps coming over?
2:13:15Colin Moriarty:Yeah, just go ahead Square Enix and HD 2D remake literally every old game you've ever made. I think that would be great. Legitimately, I think it's an awesome way to modernize these games and bring them for a new audience. I still haven't played Dragon Quest 3 HD 2D remake yet. I'd like to um my only it's not even really a disappointment because i haven't played either one of these games but the dragon quest game that i'm most interested in playing is dragon quest 8 which was for playstation 2 and then re-released on 3ds um and a lot of people have told me how great that one is so i'd like to play that at some point as well but it would make sense that these uh these hd2d remakes i'm not saying they're easy but they're certainly easier for them to do and then they can go and charge full price for them and people like them so why not do more eventually chrono trigger of course is what we need yeah again very curious especially with chrono cross out there and has been out there for a couple years now it's strange that they have not done chrono trigger yet um dragon quest 7 so it's funny it was actually released in the west as dragon warrior 7 because we knew those games still at that time as dragon warrior and they were dragon quest because of ip problems in the united states um they couldn't call it dragon quest here until dragon quest 8 was the first one that was marketed here as a dragon quest a proper dragon quest game and what i remember about dragon warrior 7 which i had were two things first of all it came out my senior year of high school and it was it came out to ps1 long after the ps2 would come out like a year later um but it had come out in japan like a year and a half before that and i'm pretty sure i have to really go and think about this but it might be the last nx game i ever bought like an actual nx labeled release before square nx became one company a few years later so that's kind of interesting little pieces of it it's a very long game at the time that dragon warrior 7 came out and i played it it is probably the longest japanese role-playing game i ever played at that time it's easily a hundred hour game um jesus and uh i have not played they re-released it for 3ds actually years later i think that came out in like 2016, 2015, something like that.
2:15:31And I never replayed it there, so I haven't played it in a long time. But here's the thing about what you said, Dustin, is like the 2D HD remake thing is like, this is a PlayStation game that would actually be going backwards to do like a more clean SNES-esque style, in my opinion. That like works in capturing the essence of a 16-bit game, in my opinion. but I do wonder or 8-bit obviously but I do wonder if the 32-bit a little bit cleaner like Dragon Dragon Warrior 7 or Dragon Quest 7 is not a pretty game by any stretch of the imagination it looks like a Dragon Quest game but that's why I'm interested in this can this idea that it is some sort of remake and again I don't think it's a Final Fantasy 7 remake kind of thing but I don't think they can do that aesthetic with this game per se I think they have to do something different so i'll be very interested to see what does that make sense to you yeah i'm looking at the gameplay
2:16:25Colin Moriarty:now and you're right so like the characters are sprite based but there's 3d models for the environments kind of like suikivan right um i don't know i think you could do it you could i mean you could do it and it i guess that would also term itself a remake because that would really be a fundamentally different game but it would be almost demaking it in other words i wonder if you have to just kind of actually do a prettier 3d game for dragon for dragon quest 7 with obviously 2d fights i'm pretty sure in dragon warrior 7 you still don't see the party um i could be wrong about that when you fight so how they reinterpret it will be interesting but dragon warrior 7 is a is a maybe underrated game because dragon grand when dragon quest 8 came to PS2, that was a level 5 game, obviously, and people really did love that.
2:17:18And then Dragon Quest 9 was a DS game and it was different in a lot of ways. So the series started to really change from there. 7 might be like the last kind of truly traditional Dragon Quest game. And it's also worth noting in the West, we didn't get Dragon Quest 5 or 6 at all at this point. So it went 1, 2, 3, 4, 7. And there was probably, I would say Dragon Warrior 4 probably came out in 93 in the West. Maybe 92. So it would have been almost 10 years between those games. And five and six were obviously super Famicom games. Those later famously came to DS and those are great ports. I have those, all those games.
2:17:57And because they did four, five and six on DS, which were great. So check this out. Will you play when it comes out? Doesn't 100 hours.
2:18:08Colin Moriarty:Probably if I'm being honest, probably not. Dude, I got to play the Lunar. I got to play Dragon Quest 2, 1, 2, and 3, I guess, HD remake. So we'll have to see. Okay. Fair enough. Let's see here. Just wanted to talk about this really quickly. Really nothing to really say about this, but it is relevant. Ubisoft. So we'll remember that Tencent, the Chinese tech conglomerate, had owned a small piece of Ubisoft already and had invested in the publisher, the French publisher. And back in the spring, Ubisoft revealed that Tencent was going to kind of up its stake in a new spinoff entity that would be a sidearm of Ubisoft that would specifically be in control of Assassin's Creed, Rainbow Six, and Far Cry, leaving everything else.
2:19:06So Prince of Persia, Beyond Good and Evil, Anno Just Dance and so on and so forth with and all the other Tom Clancy stuff so the division and everything else with this other earlier Ubisoft entity so they announced via press release that what they will call the continuation of their roadmap in its new subsidiary and they've appointed Christophe Duren and Charlie Gilmott as co-CEO so there'll be two CEOs they write quote with complimentary backgrounds Christophe Duren and Charlie Gilmont bring strong industry expertise, deep knowledge of the Ubisoft ecosystem, and a shared culture of innovation.
2:19:47Christophe has been with Ubisoft for over 35 years. He brings extensive operational and production leadership, having launched and led the Montreal studio, which is, for people that don't know, Ubisoft Montreal is by far their most important studio at this point. He also played a key role in shaping the editorial and production strategy across major titles and most recently served as managing director for North America. Charlie Gilmott has built a hybrid career at the intersection of management and innovation. He brings an entrepreneurial perspective and a sharp understanding of the evolving industry dynamics and players expectations shaped by his experience in game development.
2:20:18With a strong product mindset, deep tech culture, and a passion for games, he represents a new generation of leadership focused on innovation quality and putting players at the center of decision making. Together, they will lead the subsidiary in building evergreen multi-platform game ecosystems and writing the next chapter of Ubisoft's renowned franchises. Created to accelerate the growth of three of Ubisoft's most iconic franchises, Assassin's Creed, Rainbow Six, and Far Cry, the company's new subsidiary will focus on building brand ecosystems capable of becoming evergreen, billion-euro franchises.
2:20:48Backed by growing investments and Tencent's expertise as a core strategic partner, it will give development teams greater autonomy and agility to fully unlock the potential of these iconic games while shaping the next generation of player experiences. is they expect that should this pass all the regulatory burdens that will be required in all these various countries that this deal will close by the end of 2025. And then Insider Gaming and Tom Henderson over there, who has great connections to Ubisoft, published a letter that was circulated by Eves Gilmott. And this went out to people at Ubisoft within the publisher.
2:21:21They say, it says, quote, hello, everyone. I'm writing to you from the Montreal studio to officially announced the creation of the new subsidiary that has been discussed over the past few weeks. It felt important to me to be close to the teams and talents who contributed to the extraordinary rise of the incredible brands Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six, and who are at the heart of this new structure. The subsidiary is part of Ubisoft's broader reorganization, which we will structure into creative houses. It is the first in a new organizational ecosystem. So you can go and read more about what's happening here.
2:21:53I feel like this is fairly interesting news. And Chris, we can go to you first. We haven't heard from you in a while. We said at the time when this all went down in March when they announced that they were going to do this, it's like, what does that mean for all the teams that work on everything that isn't Far Cry, Assassin's Creed, or Rainbow Six? And there are some big franchises that are certainly safe. I brought up Just Dance earlier. Just Dance is a huge success story for them, for instance. I'm sure those guys are totally safe. But how would you feel if you were working within the structure when it's clear that they're going to gut what was there, probably burden it with all their debt and then have this new subsidiary?
2:22:31And their expectations were also out of control, in my opinion. Three billion dollar franchises. So they're already putting that bead word on billion euro franchises. What are your thoughts here?
2:22:41Colin Moriarty:Yeah, I mean, I feel like if I were at that studio, I would be the thing is, it's so it's so transparent right like i don't even think you really need any any type of deep business acumen or uh you know financial uh literacy to kind of like look at this and be like oh well they're clearly there's clearly a half of this equation that's drawn the short straw and uh i i can't even imagine what's going through the people at the other half's minds at this point i think i think far cry i had it oh i just i just had it open was it far cry assassin's creed in rainbow six assassin's creed in rainbow six and the other time clancy stuff being segmented away from rainbow six is interesting that's kind of weird yeah we noted at the time like whether that was gonna happen or not because it seemed like you would just take all of tom clancy but that is a lot of stuff and rainbow six obviously is the the biggest brand within yeah i i honestly don't know what to make of this entire situation i it feels to me like because i know that there's been this rumored i know this is a running gag at this point but i know that there's this running um assumption that splinter cell is happening in some capacity i can't imagine that that's happening anymore i i don't i it's beyond good and evil still cooking like what the hell's going on at that other half that other half seems to be just like it almost feels to me like when uh in like a sci-fi movie when a ship is falling apart and they detach the cabin because it's like oh they are like the aliens in the cabin we got to detach the rest of the ship and it's just the cockpit left that's kind of what this feels like and i really don't know what to make of it i feel like that i feel like the far cry assassin's creed rainbow six half is probably pretty well poised but uh well they're the ones getting all the investment yeah you just assume and so yeah i'm sorry go ahead no i was and i was just gonna say like i just i just don't i don't know if i see a path forward really for this other for this other half of this that doesn't end up in just a complete catastrophe like there's there's not really enough ip there or there's not to say that there's not enough ip there there's not enough ip there with resources i guess and uh enough eyes like prince of persia is not going to compete with far cry like that's not happening dustin what are your thoughts uh clearly ubisoft has been in trouble for a while and we've talked about this weird move uh the only thing is that it feels like some not like money laundering um but definitely feels like it yeah and i don't really understand it's not my will of expertise but um certainly seems weird i know a lot of people are talking to about it's is it is gilmont's son yeah i think or a brother i let me look well because there was there's a lot of try i'll look that up real quick there's a lot of charges of nepotism with this particular choice yeah it's like a guy it's like a dynasty or something it's weird yeah and i saw i saw a hoag tweet basically saying like no he didn't put him in charge of the board did based on his recommendation so it's still nepotism but it's not like he solely crowned him king right you know it's just nepotism with extra steps kind of it's right It sounds like.
2:26:27Yeah, he looks like maybe his brother because he looks kind of old. Maybe not, though. I don't know.
2:26:35Yeah, I don't know. I don't know what to make of this. Yeah. Oh, he's the son of. Yeah, it's the son.
2:26:40Colin Moriarty:Okay. Yeah. Well, I mean, it just it just does seem pretty ominous for the other part of it. Again, there will be things that survive, but I just – The only way they can get 10 cents – I mean, this is pretty obvious to me. I mean, maybe it's wrong, but it's like the only way they can get 10 cents money is to say like – More of it was to say like we will not put good money after bad. You're not – We have to – You want these things and we want your money. And you're happy to invest in those brands. And that's the way we're going to court your money. so the other things can sink or swim based on their own performance but it's gonna i imagine ubisoft is gonna deeply i imagine they're gonna gut that place i mean i i hate to be so blunt because i know people that work there that listen to the show although they probably work on some of these things that are gonna survive but you have to imagine we've said before ubisoft is bloated as fuck ubisoft employs an enormous amount of people i am pretty sure it's like it was almost 20 ,000 at one point, which is crazy.
2:27:41Right. PlayStation itself, PlayStation, the brand, like the whole brand. So like everything, the studios and the corporate part of the company and the hardware and everything is fewer than 10 ,000. You can't, well, what is Ubisoft doing? It's nuts. So I hate to say it. It's like, you got to right size an operation like that. Like they grew too much. It's going to victimize thousands of people, unfortunately, and it's not their fault in particular, but it's just totally unreasonable to assume that Ubisoft can employ this many people and make money. It just doesn't work. Yeah. You don't need all these projects anymore.
2:28:16It doesn't work like that anymore. I'm sorry. I don't know when people are going to kind of catch up with that reality, but there are only certain publishers that are going to be able to thread the needle by like Square Enix with, you know, very Japanese focused, cheap to make games they're comparable to the west you have this old these classic ip like act razor and all these different things you could constantly just turn that shit out for pretty cheap making enough money to keep it going but most companies can invest new money or good money in new products and expect to compete on this market you have to really be selective more selective than ever in what you're putting out into the wild and really understand if there's a market for it i was reading an interesting story on might have been on games industry up is or something about expedition 33 and why there's like a theory that that that game did so well in part not because it's so good which it is but because it it found a market it's like they were saying older gamers turn-based japanese role-playing gamers lapsed role-playing gamers all these different people that would be eager to buy something like yours and if you release a game like expedition 33 again it would have maybe the sequel would do better but most games that would be like it would have diminishing returns because that market has been at least partially satiated now.
2:29:25You have to find angles in. If you don't, why even bother? I was saying this on Xbox 2 when I was on the podcast with those guys where I was like, if you're going to extract, if you're going to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on a game to make$100 million in profit, ultimately, you really are better off just buying a CD for five years, which would make you almost a hundred million dollars at five percent with the same amount it's like that's the whole point is that you don't make the so they'll figure it out but it's gonna be bad i
2:30:00Colin Moriarty:think for the rest of the company yeah for most of it for most of it it should be worth it should be noted that like not only were they a bloated company but like it their projects seem to be cursed or something they seem to be there's so many beleaguered projects at that studio over the years you know obviously we mentioned beyond good and evil we met splinter cell um and there was like a handful of others that were just like i i feel like wasn't there what was the big one it wasn't beyond good and evil but it was damn oh my god what the hell was it i'm not remembering there was a prince of persia remake that they finished and never released like you said beyond good and evil has been in development forever oh uh wild was that oh no that was not right was that that was PlayStation though that was that was Michelle Ansel but that was PlayStation but that never came out either.
2:30:47Colin Moriarty:But that's what I'm thinking of Michelle Ansel. Yeah. So like I don't know. I feel like Ubisoft has been in the dirt for a long time quite frankly and we'll see. We'll see what happens. But like you said like I just can't imagine that it isn't obvious to the people like I know it's hard to hear these kinds of things or it's like oh they're probably going to gut it if you work in a studio but like I feel like if you just see this news publicly like you kind of get it. you don't see like Far Cry, you know, these big tentpole releases kind of like segmenting away from your half of the company. And, and you're just like, you don't, there's no way you don't see that as ominous.
2:31:27Yeah. It's, I preemptively feel bad, but bad decision making too, too many heads, too many games, too few risks as well. I feel like if you want to spend money and make a new triple a game, like when's the last time they really made like a watchdogs or like put some new iron in the fire like if you want to go crazy with it get crazy with it but don't but long don't chase a third watchdogs game or something if it's not working after the second game you just you're making bad decision to go back and make a different game try something new you can only get another assassin's Creed by making an Assassin's Creed one.
2:32:08And yeah, this is also, this is what I think Sony does fairly well. And again, why I think it would be somewhat disappointing if, if, if they just, if Santa Monica, as we said earlier, kept to work, keeps working on God of war, even though that would be very lucrative. And the outcome would certainly be interesting. It's knowing when to move on and start something new, like, like Naughty Dog is with intergalactic, I think is wise.
2:32:30I don't know that it seems like they're putting all their eggs into these baskets. That's what's so interesting about this is the investment is all in things that exist. Far Cry is huge. I always say people vastly underestimate how big Far Cry is. Far Cry sells 20 million units easy. It's crazy. But what I hear about Far Cry, especially from Insider Gaming and their reporting at Ubisoft, is like they're definitely fucking with it. And I'm like, you better be careful with what you're doing with Far Cry. Like there's a formula there. We like it. We like it exactly the way it is. Just do Far Cry.
2:33:04Far Cry 6, dude, is so... I'll just say it again. Far Cry 6 is sick. That game fucking rules. I love that game. It's so fun. It's so zany and crazy, like what you can do in it. And it's just so exciting to play and it's such a joy to play. Just the entire idea that you can literally just quick travel anywhere on the map and then launch yourself from a plane over the map is so fucking cool. so you just are diving in and and then remember the rumors were that they were doing a thing where you had like 30 hours to play it like to beat the game and stuff like that and i'm like that's like a majora's mask style thing and i'm like that's cool i don't know that's what we're really looking for that would be a cool mode yeah like like it's like death loop kind of or something where it's like you have a certain amount of time you have to do things that was the whole idea is like you have to go i think it was about like this dude's family is kidnapped on this island and they're all spread around and you have to kind of like go rescue everyone.
2:34:02And you could do it like in any order and like get who you can get and shit like that. And I'm like, that's cool, but that's not Far Cry. That's something else. And maybe you should be bold enough to say like, that's something else. That's a great idea. It's something else. Make that. Right. And leave the Cuba-like Far Cry missions and the MAGA Montanans and all that. Leave that to the other Far Cry guys that know what the people want.
2:34:27Colin Moriarty:well i don't know i think uh i think fucking with the formula is pretty good so i mean look at this look at what i'm about to send you i mean why uh why not um why not fuck with the formula by putting um the most cursed shit you've ever seen jesus christ what are they doing what are they doing for for context i just sent i just said colin and dustin uh this twitter i guess it's like a trailer for the new i guess i guess they're bringing stan smith and roger the alien from american dead into call of duty and it looks uh it's scary i don't know it's horrifying i don't know enough about call of duty mike is a big fan um so i should maybe ask her but it's like this doesn't seem to fit and i'm not saying it because it's like i don't know like it's supposed to be a gritty military shooter i know that they've had like incorporated weird shit weird people actors and stuff but i'm like you're getting kind of it's getting it's getting obvious what you're doing which you know like like you're it's it's pretty bleak if this is what you feel like you have to do for the it's pretty bleak for the brand if for like it's prospects in this very competitive environment if you feel like you have to turn your game into fortnight which is basically what you're doing um yeah they just had beavis and butthead like i think like a couple weeks ago it seems also i find that so strange like it seems like a totally different call of duty yeah i i'm not that invested in call of duty really at all but i uh i thoroughly i thoroughly hate this i saw i saw this pop up on my screen i i felt like a little bit nauseous when i saw it because i was just like oh my god it looks so out of place yeah that's what i'm saying i mean it's cool like you want to make money but you're ruining your game that's the thing too that's the thing too about it is that like fortnight for as insane as it is i swear to god their models look better than this i swear to god like they do it better they like they seamlessly integrate the characters but even if they're just you could put like tom holland like the actor next like in that game and i'm pretty sure you can just play as tom holland straight up i wouldn't be surprised and you could put him next to like i don't know finn from adventure time and they for some reason work this it looks like botched i don't know it looks like they look like people in like mascot costumes almost am i am i off base on just feeling like this is getting weird no no i i know some of the audience definitely not our audience but i mean the call of duty audience does feel this way where it's like what are we doing and this has been going on for years but it's getting i think more extreme and it's a reeks of desperation to me i think younger people or younger yeah I think kids and younger players in general who are maybe like accustomed to Fortnite just kind of assume this is what multiplayer gaming is and so maybe they're not as off put by it but I certainly I mean I did not appreciate Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2 as much as I should have clearly because this is not this is not this is not good oh my god I hope Battlefield's good yeah like so they might have this might these kinds of things make me feel like that there's an opportunity for them yeah but what do i know i mean call of duty is obviously huge i mean it's a fucking huge game when i say it reeks of desperation what i mean is like yeah like the attention economy microtransactions seeing where the money's being made seeing how much more money people are making how they're doing it crossover licensing all these things but that this all waters down your brand it's weird it's it's what i've said over and over again for years about fortnight it's like what i don't play fortnight i don't give a fuck about fortnight but it is brilliant that it came up with the idea of the metaverse of metaverses where everything makes sense in the world not everyone can do that when you when you start copying that idea and be like yeah we'll license anything too it's like but it's something that we already have of george right yeah it's it's there's no point it's not servicing anything unique it's right it's like spongebob and oscar schindler coming to fucking call of duty next season it's like okay Oscar Schindler would be awesome.
2:38:43He's all in black and white. Yeah. Why not? Yeah, I mean, it's fine. It's fine with me. It doesn't offend me at all. All right. Where were we here? Oh, just a couple of quick things. Did you see this thing? I circulated. This is a Reddit post of the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater subreddit. Dustin, we're going to talk to you briefly coming up because I know you're playing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 and 4 remake there was this there's this thing going around about a trash can and um in tony hawks pro skater that has a guitar hero box in it like an asset and it was posted on this reddit and iron galaxy is the team kind of behind the external team behind this this remake and they're removing in and there's like this all fake kind of sorrow about this like why would anyone be upset about this dustin did you see this have you found it in the game i haven't found it in the game but i
2:39:38Colin Moriarty:I did see this. What's weird about this post. It says copy of parentheses, legally distinct guitar hero in the trash on water park goes to show iron galaxies respect for never soft. I don't understand what people are reading in. This message is supposed to be. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know. But iron galaxy being like, Oh, we're going to remove this. Thank you. We, we have the respect for everybody. It's like, I, I don't know. It just seems like a fun, funny little reference to me. Who cares? Who gives a shit? It's just so weird, especially because it's not even like it's another company's thing.
2:40:22It's like it's Activision. I understand Neversoft is gone and all this. It's like, come on, man. And then the other thing I wanted to bring up, this isn't in the notes, but this happened and I pulled it up is because there's a lot of coverage of Ghost of Yote going around right now and over on GameInformer.com, which has returned as reported by Push Square, they spoke to creative director Nate Fox. Nate Fox, of course, was the longtime director of Infamous as well over at Sucker Punch. And he was asked about Infamous and he said, quote, I would love to work on more Infamous. I would love to see a trilogy re-release, but Sucker Punch is a one game at a time shop and right now we are very focused on finishing Ghost of Yote.
2:40:59End quote. Chris, what are your thoughts on this? Yeah.
2:41:03Colin Moriarty:Yeah, so would we. That would be very nice. hmm i uh i don't know man i feel so weird about sony just uh i granted i i know it's i know it's just this guy and um he's not making any promises or whatever but like i'm still i still feel like this tinge of anger about like all these like these these posts about like here's a chimera yeah there's nothing you know just doing it over and over again it's crazy it rubbed so it rubs me the wrong way but i'm it's nice to hear like confirmation it's like yeah i mean that that even people there understand it's like yeah these should be playable you know in some in some form and and that it could live again infamous i i never got super super into infamous but i always appreciated it there was something about um i liked the style of game that it was trying to be and i i played actually i think i beat infamous second son for the first time i think sometime recently like in the last uh year um and i enjoyed it i had a really good time with it it was like a really fun well-paced game and i i really enjoyed my time with it and so it would be nice to see infamous live again i i just don't know if that's i don't know i don't like getting my hopes up for those things yeah i understand i'm uh interested in this happening i i i'm reading the quote again i would love to work on more infamous is an interesting quote in and of itself but then yeah i would love to see a trilogy re-release but sucker punches it's like someone else could do it dude i i know they they did release i don't know if you guys remember when there was rumors about infamous and sly cooper sly of course being their first franchise with sony they were they basically released a statement saying like we those sony in so many words though sony owns these ips like these are our games and like no one else is working on them but us so if there is no sly cooper infamous being worked on anywhere it's it's not happening here.
2:42:55And I think this is especially notable because as people know in PlayStation lore, Sly Cooper 4 developed at Sanzaru was done in secret for a while without permission to see if they can get, and that's where the Sly Trilogy collection came from on PS3 and all of the rest. So at that time that that was all happening, Sucker Punch was just purchased by Sony around the time of Infamous 2's launch, and obviously their power within the family has grown since then. And so now they have that kind of power to I guess hold people off, but it just seems like a waste of time for them to make old infamous stuff it would be cool for them to maybe make a new infamous
2:43:27Colin Moriarty:game but dustin what are your thoughts here yeah i agree with you that when it comes to a re-release remastering whatever definitely they can let someone else do it um and i think that you know they can have their checks and and make sure that it's up to what they would want it to be or whatever but um it's never going to happen if uh they're the only team that can do it you know, because they're going to be working on, you know, they're finishing up Ghost of Yote. But is their next focus going to be remastering three infamous games? Seems like a waste of their time. Yeah, total waste of time.
2:44:09Colin Moriarty:So it's never going to happen. I mean, a portion of their team could do it, but he's saying we're one game at a time. So, yeah, like you're saying, if that's true, then it speaks in one direction. Could it would you want to see a fourth infamous game? Maybe go maybe go back to the whole. yeah i've only played the ps4 infamous second son second son and i thought it was fun i liked it yeah i think that's the worst of the three personally but i i do i do like it as well i mean what was cool about second son in my opinion was were the weird powers because you always have like water and electricity and ice and stuff but this was like concrete neon yeah concrete neon um it's cool oh my god what the hell yeah it was a cool it was unique in the in the way that they um smoke and video video yeah yeah that's cool like that's cool like that that is a dope that's dope because you know obviously coal was electricity but there was something really fucking good about the first two infamous games where it's like these games are dope these these are really really especially the second one really really fun yeah man it would be so cool to play them yeah i know i know i know this is i'm not i'm not turning on a ps3 to play those games man i'm just not no no nor should you nor should you and uh i mean just have nixus do it or blue point yeah exactly it's it is crazy to me you watch at some point like that's how they'll get you on board with the ps6 or something because they've waited so long in this generation that They'll have like, I don't know, they'll get some Peter Molyneux fuck ass to come up on them.
2:45:53Colin Moriarty:Until the PS6, we didn't have the power to run PS3, but now we do. And you'll see like Cole up there. You see every goddamn pore on his face. I don't know. I just want these old games to be playable. like i i don't think it's too much to ask especially because they do have dedicated port studios and they purchased a dedicated remake studio and then they put them on a fucking live service got to work in so i i just think if you allocate your resources correctly you can have all of the big things from your previous um um i was gonna say administration your previous uh generations like playable on your modern hardware and in kind of like no time because it's really just i mean i guess it's it's infamous it's um resistance and then i guess what like little big planet and like kills up kill zone little big planet yeah and that's it yeah i was saying that i was saying that recently where there might be like 10 to 15 games at this point that really need to come over and that's it yeah and like we've noted recently metal gear solid four is going to come in that konami collection that that already that already takes care of one of them it would be like infamous one and two kill zone two three i would say kill zone one which was ported to ps3 but really it would be easier for them to re-release kill zone two as a ps2 game which it was as a ps2 classic which i'm surprised they haven't done yet because they even released kill zone liberation which was like what um yeah so which is cool i mean that's awesome that they did that but i'm just saying so yeah it would be like infamous one infamous two kill zone two kill zone three little bit planet little bit planet two the resistances resistance one two and three so that's nine and that's it really like there are some the next ones would be like maybe like heavenly sword could be a tenth yeah and then you're getting into like love i'm sorry you're you're getting into like more obscure like tokyo jungle puppeteer yeah fat princess that princess like yeah things like that it would be uh motor storm i would love i would love to see motor storm but that's never gonna happen um but yeah i don't know like it just seems like it's such a manageable list i'm not saying that they all need to come out in like a year or even like three yeah sorry just start trickling them out it would be nice right it would be like one every one like collection every two years i'm totally fine with it i mean even with the dearth of of first and second party releases where they're saying they're really only aiming at at least for one tentpole a year now which is so dire for the first party it's like you really could get one of these going a year and almost counted as a tentpole because it would be a huge deal if you had a resistance trilogy it would be a huge deal if you had a kill zone trilogy or a infamous trilogy or anything you You would really just need the infamous duopoly, I guess, or duology, I should say.
2:48:56So it's like. Use that to your advantage. That it's not great, but it helps you defray a lot of the criticism and allows you to also answer one of the major kind of problems people have, which is like Xbox talks so intimately with 360 and the PS4 and PS5 just don't interact with the PS3 and it sucks. We need to do something about it. Like we need to do something about it 10 years ago. Right. Nonetheless now. And I know, and this is what I keep saying is I know it must be a deeply complicated problem. But as I've also said over and over again, I refuse to believe that you can't fix it. I refuse to believe even on a game, but I know for a fact on a game by game basis, it can and is done.
2:49:37So just do it. You're wasting so much time looking for technological, you know, solutions. It's like you really could have just ported these 20 games have been done with it, you know, and then ask people like, what the fuck do you want from us binary domain or something like leave us alone we gave you infamous you know we gave you kill zone leave us alone but instead there's just all of this fodder and the ps1 and ps2 games are they're they're it's awesome they're releasing the new twist or twist of metal three and four this month and everything it's like cool but there is that generation that's really important to people it's the smallest of those three generations no doubt but come on man i and i would love a there's a new generation of people that are ready to play infamous that have never played resistance that never owned a ps3 and they would have no access to these games and they don't want to play their fucking games on playstation now so god jesus and it gives them an opportunity with games like heavenly sword and the first resistance i mean this is just for me and but a lot of others too is like those games never had trophies there's like a bunch of different things that you could do to like oh yeah get this going did metal gear solid 4 have trophies uh it got patched and remember it got patched like as i recall dustin you remember this it got patched like five years later or something like that like it was like this thing that just happened later and everyone's like whoa metal gear solid 4 has fucking trophies did you have to go in and get them again yeah you had to go yeah you had to do them and they're hard i mean metal gear games are typically have hard trophies which is what's so interesting about death stranding where they're not hard they're just time consuming but though but the game like i remember metal gear solid 2 which wouldn't have really had anything like that was Konami and blue point back in the day but like you had to get all the dog tags and it's like really comp I mean that's complex that means you have to hold up every fucking soldier in the game everyone that is actually insane and I tried so I started to try to do it on the Vita version and I'm like I cannot play this game on the Vita it just it's too bad that's so that's so funny I love the Vita version of
2:51:36Colin Moriarty:Metal Gear Solid 2. I ended up borrowing, I think I ended up borrowing your copy Dustin for PS3 right? Or something. No, you still have my copy of Metal Gear Solid 4. Oh, 4, yeah, for PS, well you can get it whenever you want. I'm not gonna, well I I mail you things every once in a while. I'll just drive seven hours to come pick it up. Well, I was gonna say I mail you things once in a while, I don't know why I've never just mailed it back to you. That's okay. I'm not, I mean, no need for Metal Gear Solid 4. Yeah, no one is.
2:52:04I'm actually really excited for the collection to come out because i i four is the one i never really spent very much time with because i didn't like it but there but my my first instinct is not always right on on these games and you know now it'll be running really well and yeah but i i heard there's like cut scenes that are like two hours long and stuff which is like hysterical to me it's i don't understand metal gear fans that think it's the best one yeah it seems pretty clear to me even from my vague
2:52:34Colin Moriarty:memories of it that it's like there's no way that I'm going to like it more than but like I definitely hated it way too much I think I like Metal Gear a lot more now than I did when I played Metal Gear Solid 4 so like I think I'll get a lot more out of it this time but it being the best feels insane yeah I think it's got to go to 2 for me 3 I've come to respect a lot more I'm really excited for the for Delta me too i'm really looking forward to it when they did the little vignette of all the boss fights which i saw like the ball the different bosses in the but in the new world i was like oh my god this looks so fucking good i would i would die to see fat man treated with such respect with such reverence with his little wine glass yeah i think on on on twitter recently where people were like some dude was like i can't believe people glaze kojima and there's this guy named fat yeah yeah we were talking about that yeah and it's like it's ridiculous it's ridiculous he's like that's like a the epitome of what he's capable of him and what's that uh yoji shinkawa or whatever the artist incredible yeah what are you crazy you don't get it if you don't get fat man you don't get it at all that's cool like you don't get it but you don't get it well he did that like did you did you see this happen on on online where like this it was just some guy who like was basically like shitting all over it just like i don't know why people yeah no i did and then people were retweeting it i saw i did see that yeah well people uncover that he had like a he wrote a story he had his own like book and it was about like it starts with like orc city was under attack so okay so there were all these orc city memes oh my god that's awesome no one is orc city yeah it was amazing i gotta search for that it was good stuff it's like there's they're great like you're laughing orc city has fallen and you're laughing a lot of good stuff in that in that there was like a good flash in the pan like two straight days of just people clowning on this guy for like making fun of kojima meanwhile he's like writing about orc city yeah it says prologue the orc city smoldered burned down in the wake of battle the ground soaked in a knuckles depth of blood and ash the savage cries of its defenders now silent and still as its ruin was overseen by the architect of its very destruction the orc wars were finally over there is nothing more reviled than then there's a quote there is nothing more reviled than the orc said the elvish king um yeah it's not bad it's just a little oh it's fine it's just funny it's it's you can't come after kojima and write like well you can't say anything you can't say anything on the internet and not have people dissect your entire life so you have to know that when you live by the sword you die by very much die by the sword yeah they really got it yeah i mean they nailed them they really they really looked deep because you get stuff that's great i mean that is grade a hater shit when someone when someone goes and finds your ebook
2:55:32i thought it was it was funnier because i thought it was literally called like a proper now an orc city and i'm like that's fucking crazy but he does say the orc city that's true yeah he does but i am i do see the art he shared and it's like dude this this art of fat man is so good there's nothing wrong with it there's nothing wrong with it at all not not a single thing beautiful man beautiful freshest baby boy all right my boys which which i don't know what the fuck i'm saying it's time to talk about the games we're playing we're all playing death stranding 2 let's see here i guess what we'll do chris is we'll begin with you and then dustin will go to you and then i'll i'll end it all off yeah what are your thoughts here does uh curse on death stranding 2 as we're another week deeper into it yeah so um you know i it death stranding 2 is great i really like it i think the i think the story is really
2:56:32Colin Moriarty:interesting i i think like i think it's a step up in in in many many ways but for whatever reason in the last like two days i've been playing it and it's kind of i feel like it's kind of losing me and i don't know why i think it's because i think honestly it's because i have so many roads set up and so many like i i'm mainly driving the truck around right and this is something that i barely did in the first Death Stranding. I barely had a truck. I had like the tricycle thing, primarily if I was driving anything. And even that, I left myself up to like, I'm going to hike. I'm going to authentically walk around.
2:57:15Colin Moriarty:And now that I'm kind of driving the truck around on my roads, I don't know. It just kind of feels like like. And the interesting gameplay loop of, you know, balancing and lugging cargo and like placing a ladder and placing a climbing anchor. I feel like I'm not really doing any of that. I feel like I'm taking my truck as far as I can go. And then I find some mountain or some like obstacle and I just try to finagle my truck around it and I eventually do get it. but as a result i feel like oh man this ladder stuff and and the um i don't know i feel like i have to actively choose now to kind of engage with systems whereas i think in the first death stranding i feel like you kind of just had to engage with more things at least as far as like individual at least as far as like the walking simulator aspect goes i'm still liking the combat a great deal i did the story is endlessly intriguing to me i think it's a still a beautiful stunning game and i think the pacing of it's really really great i think um getting access to new stuff is always satisfying because it is always very consequential and i'm into it i just kind of like over the last like two days i felt less into it like significantly than i was in the beginning and i don't think that's necessarily even the game's fault i think i i just kind of like i think i overloaded really early on like building these things to make things easier for me which is fun in and of itself but then like when you get to the point where things are easier for you it kind of makes the game less fun so i feel like i'm gonna try and like actively set out and instead of using the truck i think i'm gonna try and like you know what i'm gonna when i unless i absolutely have to and there's like an insane like order where there's like 15 items and it's like well i can't carry all this shit i'm gonna try and like go on foot for a lot of these because i feel like i'm missing out on the the kind of like treacherous terrain and like the the perilous kind of like oh my god i almost fell down this mountain and lost everything and i'm also not really building a lot of these like crazy things like i'm building zip lines and building roads but i just unlocked this like cargo cannon thing and i'm like i'm like oh i i don't even think i because i think i saw clips of this in the first game at least in the director's cut yeah yeah i had never even seen that so i was like oh interesting new thing um but i think i have to i think i'm at a point now where it's like i have to actively choose which systems i engage with where i feel like it was a little bit more natural earlier on and i think in the first game i think a little bit too but overall still fantastic um i'm really really like like the story in particular i'm i'm really like what the hell is going on and not in like a this is badly written way it's just like like a genuinely intriguing way there's so many little vignettes with the characters that you get um that are that feel kind of inconsequential like it's just like a little character interaction like when you're going in and off the ship but uh it really does a lot to like add i've gotten that like i read all the books that uh what is it um i didn't even realize that they were there for the longest time oh tarman leaves you books tarman leaves you a bunch of books and you get to like uh you get to read all of them although it's it's less reading and more like picking up a book and and the puppet spoiling it for you right right right it's kind of hilarious in the context of the universe where he's like oh you're reading that book oh he dies at the end it's like thank you yeah thanks so much i appreciate that i guess Thanks a lot.
3:01:06We're reading that.
3:01:07Colin Moriarty:Thanks a lot, but I love it still. And, but, but it's really all I've really had time to play. I've been working on some other stuff, but yeah, still, still hammering away at it. Really, really like it. Derek Beak wrote into us on Patreon and said, I'll be the first to admit that I'm a tier one Kojima glazer and have loved just about everything he's put out over the last 20 years. But I feel like something is missing with death stranding too. And it doesn't really seem to get talked about much. The move from mostly walking, at least in the beginning of the game to entirely driving in the second feels like such a downgrade.
3:01:36At no point in my 40-hour run of the sequel did I ever feel challenged by the environment. I feel like I'm just driving in mostly straight lines the entire time, and while the first game wasn't brutally hard, there was a small puzzle with every delivery, and here that seems totally missing. Everyone's talking about how much better the pacing is because they give you so much equipment right away, but I feel like so much of Death Stranding 2 is on autopilot and has taken away from the stuff I loved from the first game. Am I crazy here, or did I entirely miss something about the way delivery is handled in this sequel?
3:02:02It's been a rather disappointing few weeks playing this game as I was already let down by the gameplay and the narrative sort of felt like Kojima's version of the Star Wars prequels with confusing plot lines and unearned reveals. So there's some agreement with you here from this particular person, Chris, from Derek B.
3:02:15Colin Moriarty:Yeah, some. Being let down by the gameplay of this game versus the first one, I think it's kind of crazy. I feel like the gameplay is way better. Like across the board. Combat in particular. But yeah, I don't know. There's there is something to this. Where like I just felt a lot more engaged by the environment in the first game, I think. Whereas now I'm more engaged in like building a highway system, which is arguably, you know, which is arguably something that I should have been more invested in the in the first game. And I just wasn't. So maybe you could look at it from like a couple different ways where it's like maybe the second game is better at getting you on board with with that system that they really wanted to push.
3:03:01Colin Moriarty:or it's it's worse at getting you on board with the you know the the walking sim element which i i really loved the walking sim element i just feel like i'm doing less less and less of that but especially with the fast travel with the dhv magellan like that kind of nullifies some of it although like i'm glad to have it i i definitely i was one of the people like i remember like in our spoiler discussion for the first one where we were talking about just like brother like the fact that I have to cross this continent from coast to coast as many times as I do in a row is ridiculous. So it's nice to have like some kind of levity there.
3:03:38Colin Moriarty:But I wouldn't say it's like a major complaint. I think it's just I have to like approach it differently. When you when you I don't fast travel much in the game because I I'm just trying to I try to set things up if I have to go a long distance be like well I can do this while I'm there and then I can drop off these supplies and i can do this so i just i'm always driving everywhere with the with the magellan are you able to take your cargo with you uh um sometimes i because i think you have a private locker i think it's like certain things are restricted like they'll have like story reasons for why like oh this is contaminated with tar we can't or there will be some they will usually tell you ahead of time like oh you can't use the magellan yeah i feel like i've traveled i've I feel like I've traveled with cargo in the Magellan before.
3:04:27Well, cause it wouldn't make any sense that you couldn't. That's what I was thinking is like, why would I understand in the game, in the first game, you fragile travel or whatever. And so it's like this like thing where you have to go to the beach and then reappear in another place. And so you can't bring anything with you, but like, it's literally the ship and everything in it going to another location. So I would assume that would make sense that cause there is two different ways to quick travel in this game. There was only one way to quick travel in the first game. And the one way to quick travel in this game, that's like the fragile jump or whatever, I would assume you can take the cargo with you.
3:04:56Dustin, do you know the answer?
3:04:58Colin Moriarty:I believe that if you have cargo, it will be marked as Magellan cargo. And so then you will receive a much lower score. Oh, interesting. Interesting. Oh, okay. So that makes sense. Because that would break the game wide open, I think. Right. And I think that Chris is right. In the story context, it will not let you carry story-based deliveries in the Magellan, but non-story ones you can, but it might not be worth doing at all. I might not be 100 % right about that, but I know there is something about, I'll get a warning that's like, Magellan currently has cargo. And if you fast travel, it's going to be marked as Magellan, blah, blah, blah.
3:05:36Colin Moriarty:So there is something there, but the exact details, I'm not sure. Yeah, I was just curious about that because I really haven't been quick traveling very much. And in the first Death Stranding, like Director's Cut, when I Platinum did, I didn't quick travel very much at all either, just because again, you couldn't bring anything with you, like even your weapons and shit. So you'd have to, it was actually just way more inconvenient to often to quick travel and then like reestablish yourself, like make a bunch of new shit and all that, as opposed to just driving there with all your stuff. So I was like, here's my pro tip with the Magellan that I'm sure the audience, a lot of them already know about.
3:06:13Colin Moriarty:once you're done with mexico colonize it by stealing all of their materials and take your truck take all their materials put it in the magellan and then take all of their materials to build roads in australia that's exactly what i've been doing yeah the road building is fun i i will let's let's go to you now actually dustin so we've heard from chris yeah we'll go to you about what you're playing so you're playing death training too as well as astro bot and tony hawk so go ahead and talk about astro and tony hawk first and then get into this training and then i'll i'll go from there so astro bot they put out those new challenge levels for some reason i didn't remember that they were i just knew there was new content so i booted up and i was like oh it's challenge levels dude some of these are fucking hard uh not maybe it's because i have you know i'm it's disjointed it's not like i just played the whole game so now coming back and playing these challenge levels i'm like holy shit some of these are real hard so i think i've completed maybe half of them uh just because they take a lot out of me to to finish them so those have been fun in the new bots pretty cool i've been enjoying seeing those unspoiled because i i muted the term astrobot on twitter he wrote wrote to me and apologized oh dude do you feel how do you do you accept it yeah i accepted him i don't feel like i was telling him i'm like i'm busting balls dude i i did say to him though i'm like i don't understand this like chase to spoil things for people like just generally on social media bothers me right but i know that that's where like people get their their views and i guess there's money to be made and stuff so i'm i just think people need to be more careful that's so funny though because like i i totally get what you're saying but also like knowing what the astrobot is in the level is what determines whether or not i'm excited to go to go play i'm like sure sure sure yeah so i think people just have a different relationship because i'm more interested in getting them in my what what do you even call it like the home base where everybody's like running around like that's what i want i want to see them and and to see like what their animations are and like you know what uh how they interact with the other people on like the island with the giant ps5 like that's the one that's i want to see for myself i think i wouldn't have minded i but i think i wouldn't have minded the spoilers so much these spoilers but they're significant because of what was not able to happen originally with the game right now so like these are i think particularly i wouldn't care usually either yeah and as i've said like there are probably i don't want to say five i don't know a handful of bots in the game where i'm like i'm not even sure who the fuck this is so it's entirely possible you can hit me with one of those and it wouldn't even be a spoiler because i'm like i don't know who that is yeah exactly because there's no muse as i was saying when the game came out i was kind of critical of it i was like just critical of this aspect of it i was like why not have a museum aspect and really explore who these characters are like you really have to know um which is cool i think that's fun but when you're when i'm when i'm stumped by a few of them i would imagine a lot of people are stumped by a lot of them so anyway um so yeah all right so astro difficult difficult weren't they releasing those once a week for a while and then they released all of them at the same time or is that am i making that up they had like an episodic rollout i think yeah but these all came out at the same time right yeah they're going the netflix route with these yeah which is interesting probably want to just be done justin are these time trials yeah these well they're like really hard levels and then you can do them as time trials okay but they're not like primary like because i know because i know some of the recent dlc has been like focused on time trials yeah i i know what you're me i know what you mean i think i think they do have time trial functionality but i think they're just trying to see if you can even survive these particularly difficult difficult at the same time they are a little lopsided two of them i beat in the first try uh and i was like oh Well, that's refreshing because the other two or three I did was a struggle big time.
3:10:19Colin Moriarty:So that's interesting. I wonder how hard it's going to be for me. Because I'm pretty good at Astro. I never refined any of my times. I got times that I thought were respectable and then I moved on. So if I beat a stage and I'm like, I could clean that up by five seconds, I would just do it again. But if I was just like, I got to the end and I'm like, I don't know if I can really clean that up without really getting into the weeds. Right. I just move on with my life. at that point yeah uh the other thing that i've been playing is tony hawk three and four remake and it's great it's awesome it is nothing revolutionary from tony hawk one and two remake it's just that again but with tony hawk three and four which is great for me because Tony Hawk three was the main Tony Hawk game that I played when I was a kid.
3:11:11Colin Moriarty:So I feel like I'm getting the experience that a lot of people had with the last remake in seeing a lot of these levels again, remembering some of the weird shit in them. But yeah, they did iron galaxy did a really great job with this. So I have been slowly going through Tony Hawk three, just kind of you can really beat this game in a night like get unlock all the levels and stuff if you wanted so i've just been kind of slowly going through it i did realize though that the traditional like two minutes beat as many goals as you want i like that but i started playing with that and i was like man i'm just kind of getting annoyed by the timer like i can beat all this with a timer but i kind of like being able to enjoy and look around the levels so i bump that timer up to 60 minutes and i've been having way more fun that way because i can kind of like go and do each one and not feel like i'm in this huge rush to try to complete the level so i don't know if there's any effect on trophies or i'm sure i think there is challenges that it effects but just a little suggestion is that maybe try the 60 minute timer and then you can kind of really dive into each level and and learn it and and search for things in a way that before where it's like okay this two minute run i'm going to do just the skate letters and this one other thing is all i'm gonna have time for whereas if you do the 60 minutes you can kind of explore around a little bit sure then death training two i posted about a week ago that i was starting my journey of five starring everything i don't think i'm gonna do it i think i'm burnt out and i don't like some of these facilities is a fucking grind where i have four out of five stars and i'll do like an order and some lost cargo and it goes up like just a tiny you know a tiny foreskin amount of star and i'm like i don't know uh like are you doing legend of legends runs a few of them yeah like some of them i don't understand it seems like that last star at certain facilities just takes longer than the other stars i don't know how it works i'm sorry to interrupt but like the way i interpreted it even in the first game and i could be wrong on this is like first star is whatever it is and then the second star is twice as many of the as the first star and then the third star is twice as much as the second star and so on and so forth so that by the time you get to the fifth store it's twice as much as the fourth star which is twice as much as the third star and so i that's the way i read it not unlike an experience table in a role-playing game right so but i yeah i was wondering because i i do basically i'm doing every set like every quest legend of legends um and i've already organically just gotten a couple of to five stars in the in the in the uh course of the game so i feel like that's a vital part of it and also the the the truck device that grabs packages i just can i I just hold them forever until I find myself at that place.
3:14:23And then I give them to them. And that's like extra points too, which I think you might've recommended to me actually.
3:14:27Colin Moriarty:Oh yeah. Yeah. The grabber is sick. I have gone and gotten every optional facility as well. So I did that. And I don't, sometimes the last, in the past week I've sat down, I'm like, I really feel like death strand, the playing death stranding right now over anything else. And then there was one or two nights where I was like, this grind is kind of getting to me so i don't know we'll see what happens and what my future with death stranding is i have been having a lot of fun unlocking new items that do fun and interesting things that change up the gameplay so that's been cool um so yeah death stranding starting to cool off and now of course today i got donkey kong bonanza to play as well so yeah That'll be my new main game for the next week or two.
3:15:17Colin Moriarty:I know Mike is really looking forward to that too. Yeah. I saw IGN give it a 10. Doubt. Gene Park gave it a perfect score. Doubt. Yeah, he said... I've heard a lot of chatter that it's like, oh, it's better than Odyssey, which to me is fine because I thought Odyssey was kind of... Odyssey was really good, but it's fine. Odyssey is the last Nintendo game I earnestly played. Like I really played. Oh, really? That's the last one. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I like it a lot. Like that's definitely like a it's a high point for sure. But like, I just think like of the 3D Mario games, it's probably the one that I feel the least about.
3:16:04Colin Moriarty:Like I'm kind of indifferent about it. So to hear that it's better than that doesn't really strike me. But like to hear that it's like one of the best things that they've done in a long time is like kind of. Okay. you caught my attention i am uh i played a tiny bit this morning which is why i really i'll wait till next week to talk about it but seemed cool the destruction is really neat um like you can you can like dig full tunnels and completely terraform levels if you want it's yeah a red faction gorilla called uh they want their uh destruction digging physics back yeah I do like that aspect of it though dude like it looks cool yeah shout out to red faction yeah Micah ordered it and then I think they gave like send her an email said oh it won't come today or whatever I'm like oh of course doesn't she go out of the house daily she just left yeah she goes to leaves all the time she just went out today I don't know I don't know what her deal is maybe she did what she was out maybe she picked it up I don't know we'll find out yeah I heard her come home I heard the garage door open so she's a she's here she's wandering around um all right so i played death training 2 as well and then kingdom hearts and we'll talk about that um in a second but death training 2 um i love it i think it's awesome and i think it really shines by having played a hundred hours of director's cut leading right into it because immediately once you can adjust to some of the different button differences like i was making fun of it they just remap all the buttons for no seeming reason at all like it is a thing i don't understand why they did it every every button's different it's like now this button you press to load cargo now you press this button to jump now you press this button to duck now you press this button to pulse now it's like all right guys i don't know why you did it this way but once you get a wrap your mind around that and relearn the controls and stop annoying yourself with that shit.
3:18:02You realize that I believe that in almost every way the original Death Stranding is inferior to this game. I will say that it does seem quite easy. I don't know if that's because I played Death Stranding Director's Cut on hard and I'm playing this on normal. Maybe that has something to do with it. I just think the game is a little bit more straightforward. There doesn't seem to be as much danger. But I also feel like there was a lot of frustration with the way the first game dealt with BTs and BT encounters, the boss fights, the stiff combat. A lot of the difficulty I felt like was arbitrary, actually, and wasn't really that hard.
3:18:46It was more that the game was cumbersome. Even vehicular control was so slick in the first game and is so sticky in this game. It's totally different. It's radically different the way that the vehicles feel. They're the same vehicles, but they totally control differently. And I just, again, I think the combat, the stealth mechanics, it's so deeply Metal Gear that it's strange how they've incorporated this other game within this game. Should you want to really experience it like that? And I'm quite impressed with it. It's beautiful. It's dynamic. there's so much weather and effects and natural beauty the day night cycle the characters the zany level of character development just to continue to introduce characters rainy and tomorrow and all these it's like Jesus Christ there's like a million characters in this game I really really like it I'm really I think it's pretty easily my game of the year so far maybe it falls apart I'm 30 hours in PSN tells me I'm 58 % I want to say through the game um i'm on chapter seven so there are 16 chapters i think and i was looking at the percentages and you can see that again there's like a cascade of trophies you earn it's like 20.2 20.1 19.9 so you can like see that people just earn them back to back to back um so things move a little quicker i was gonna see where everyone was to maybe record the spoiler cast this coming week um and get that out for next week so maybe we'll do that we'll see where everyone is i'll go on discord and find out who wants to participate maybe we'll do two of them again i don't know if that's necessary i don't know who's interested in sounding off on it but um i'm trying to think like the the one thing i will say that is worse about this game is i think that this game in a lot of ways has a snappier interface which i appreciate but the maps are still really crowded and busy and there is a weird hiccup like loading time thing going on oh yeah yeah which i haven't in i earnestly have not encountered a problem like this in a triple a game since borderlands 3 i want to say i was i was about to say and it's i'm playing on pro i assume you are too yeah and i'm a little confused by why it's having such a hard time like sometimes it'll take like several seconds where it seems like the game froze yeah and what i mean is like you'll go into the menu and collect or go to orders and then it'll just freeze and then like three seconds later it'll load and i'm like what's going on here and i think you need to tone down all the effects and like all this crazy shit that's going on here it's not it doesn't need to look like this it's more important that it runs better so i find that a little frustrating um but it's whatever i mean that can be fixed and it's it's a small quibble it's and it's not as bad as borderlands 3 either i would say um oh yeah it's not consistent it doesn't seem to happen i don't know if there's like a something going on where like it gets worse as the longer you play if there's like what would you call it like a memory leak or something i don't know if like something like that is happening i doubt that that would be like that that significant of a problem but it's noticeable and uh so i would want to throw that out there but i think the the pacing seems pretty good the road building's fun my world is so deeply populated with shit that i don't need to build anything else and i do agree that that does seem to be like something's missing however i i have been playing it completely so i've been doing all the aid requests as they pop up there's like scores of them and those have you do a lot of like building like put a ladder here or put like a climbing anchor here or build this time fall shelter or whatever which i think is kind of cool so it forces you to do everything and you get experience points or what likes for doing it and sometimes if you have to go collect things for people in those did you guys do the aid requests at all yeah yeah i've done some it's a good way to earn more like specifically if sometimes it's just you just get thumbs up and it's not really worth it like but you i do it just for the completion sake but sometimes they'll dispatch you to go get something for them and it's almost like a side quest and you go back and you get more thumbs up star rankings or whatever uh towards your star rankings at the different facilities which is cool um so yeah i'm i'm really into it I really, really love it.
3:23:06And this idea, I get it. I mean, it's natural to think that like, wow, you're really going to be tired of this shit by the time you're done. And maybe I will be by the time I'm done, but I'm not tired of it right now. This is 130 consecutive hours of this kind of game I've been playing. Yeah, you're built different or something. Oh, I'm built different already. Yeah, I will say that. No doubt about it.
3:23:25Colin Moriarty:Because I'm definitely feeling kind of burned out after like 40 something hours. I'm like, all right, I like this. I like this, but But I think I'm at a point now where I just like I really just I really just want to know what happens. You know, like I'm at that point where I was just like, I got to know what's the story beat now. Like, like, let's get this rolling. That's kind of where I'm at with it. Sam, it's tall, man. That's my impression. It's Tom, man. It's time. Every time he's like, just so you know, it's tar, man. Yeah, like, I know. I know you're fucking tar, man. I know. I get it. it's like when my dad calls and says that it's him and I'm like but I know because I'm looking and I can see that it's you
3:24:12you know I'd be like hey dad or I'd be like hello and he'd be like hey Colin it's dad like yeah I know that's so funny I know okay oh alright so then Kingdom Hearts I streamed on YouTube and you can check that out on patreon.com slash last day media I'll be streaming every Monday as I said earlier you can catch them live for free or catch them in VOD on patreon.com slash last day media so Dustin and I streamed for five hours and in that time we did a lot of different things but we played Kingdom Hearts for a little over two hours I think and um Eric wrote in said hey sacred man what do you think of the theory that Pluto is Goofy's mentally disabled son that he keeps as a pet I'll sit and keep the car running in the closed garage for some sleep and listen Dustin
3:25:00Colin Moriarty:i i like the theory it's certainly fun but the thing is goofy is more shaped like a like a man like a dog man right he's half man half dog right he's a mog well yeah sure um i'm not i'm not buying this one yeah there is something we were talking about this on the stream that there is something about goofy is a sentient and he can talk right um he understands the way the world he's had sex before you know yeah it's dark when you think about it pluto pluto is not given the gift of intelligence and gift of gab yeah why what's the difference here they're both dogs i kind of look at it like uh i just kind of look at it as like a like a like a man and a monkey kind of situation it's like yeah they're close but like i mean come on right he a social security number right right well sam brown gets deeper into the heart of it he says colin how does it feel knowing that you struggled on a boss fight for children while playing kingdom hearts in all seriousness sacred streaming is a great addition to the main store mainstay show and we're looking forward to future streams i'll eat a papu fruit papow fruit how do you say papu papu fruit with chris tying my destiny to him forever and listen i understand that a little more now.
3:26:21I did play Kingdom Hearts. I did struggle with the boss fight a couple hours in, which is probably not even a couple hours in if you play it properly. But I got to say I didn't mind it. It wasn't that bad. I don't really understand what's going on with the story. I don't really care. I don't find the characters very endearing. There's something very of that generation that's very nostalgic for me to see. I remember games looking like this I was saying to Dustin that I wish I can kind of just play the original on PS2 because I want to really know what it looked like because it didn't look like this and it would be interesting to know what it was really looking like at that time not in widescreen and up res and running at a great frame rate and all the rest but I it's funny to see like some of the crossovers between Final Fantasy games even sound effects that I was pointing out where I'm like and obviously the direct references to Final Fantasy games specifically so far in the game 8 and 10 um I don't mind it.
3:27:20I mean, it's fine. I don't really quite understand the lore. And I'm not that into Disney, although I don't find this that offensive because as I was noting on the stream, this is more my era of Disney, like kind of the end of it.
3:27:34Colin Moriarty:Yeah. But when I think about the run of movies that like I cared about, probably starting, well, that were out when I was a kid. So like Little Mermaid into whatever it was, like Beauty and the Beast, into The Lion King, into like Pocahontas. Mulan, Hercules. Like that was like my shit. I liked those movies. And that seems to be because of when it was made and crafted. That's kind of like its direct influence along with things that are older that I love too. You know, I loved Fox and the Hound and Bambi and Robin Hood's my favorite, you know, Peter Pan. Yeah. So I'm sure they get to all of those.
3:28:07So it's not even that I don't understand the references. I'm sure they get much deeper and much more going to be much more lost on me in later movies as they get more and incorporate more and more or later games as they incorporate more and more of the movies and TV shows and just the IP. but um yeah it's not as offensive as i thought it was going to be but it it is what it is i have no real excitement to go back to it but it was not nearly as bad as i had assumed it was going to be i will admit i will admit so um matthew bunton wrote in on this note said colin i come to you today not with malice but with hope hope that one day you'll find it in your heart pun fully intended to beat and platinum all three mainline kingdom hearts games what would it take to make that happen a sacred last stand ritual a patreon tear so high it legally counts as a bribe a formal letter of apology from titsuya nomora signed in keyblade blood seriously name your price that people deserve to know a hundred thousand dollars a hundred thousand dollars at once or in super chats um if we if we could somehow know that i would make a hundred thousand dollars having done all that i would do it yeah but it could also be a lump sum and then i'll do it matthew needs to set
3:29:15Colin Moriarty:his sights much lower. You know, platinum-ing all three mainline. I don't even want to do that, and I'm a big Kingdom Hearts fan. So, maybe just completing the three mainline? What's the price for that? $25 ,000. $25 ,000. $25 ,000. Yeah, because platinum-ing, because we were saying, the platinum on the PS3 port of Kingdom Hearts 1 is really difficult because the trophies don't stack so you do have to beat it a bunch of times and I was telling Dustin that people have figured out kind of on the PS4 port like clever ways now that the trophies stack to get through so like you have to beat it in under 15 hours and beat it on the hardest difficulty and do all these things and like you can kind of tie them together but I'm clearly not capable of even beating the first boss in the game without dying five times so um I wouldn't set my expectations too high on that's the first who's the first boss in in Kingdom Hearts 1 uh it's this random heartless dude that you have to kill us you have to he is like his limbs detached like rayman oh that's right there were a few things i realized though one was i didn't really i was getting out you know and not to make excuses because i was i kept saying i'm like this is a game for children like let's just talk about how this is a game for children and i'm dying but i think i had like an item that i didn't equip that would have given me better stats and so on and so forth and i was just I'm much more of a brute force player of action games where it's like and obviously there's more sophisticated ways to play those games if you want to get an s rank and devil may cry or something you got to play things a little more carefully but wasn't really able to play like this got to be a little bit more careful but I had my party members goofy in Donald with me Donald was or was a goofy that was healing me one of them was healing me which I appreciated casting healing magics arcane healing magics on me i don't know i don't know i just don't understand what's like that's the thing about the game is it's so unsettling because what are we doing what is happening here it's maybe maybe if you paid attention you kept saying how you weren't paying attention yeah i couldn't i didn't know how yeah i mean it's a skill issue calling yeah it is i just didn't know i didn't know how i think it's one of those things where it's like there's a lot of things there's a lot of great mood like there are a lot of great stories that just kind of throw you into the thick of it without really explain like back to the future is a great one where i'm just where you're just kind of like yeah he's friends with us disgraced scientists and there's terrorists and plutonium whatever and you didn't really question it it just kind of starts off that way and you're just meant to just buy it but i think the uncanniness of seeing Final Fantasy characters next to Disney characters is what fucks with me.
3:32:08Colin Moriarty:Like it's the uncanniness in addition to feeling like you've just been thrown in the middle of like season six of a show you haven't you you've never seen before. That mix of disorientation is crazy. Yeah. Yeah. Well I'm a man of my word so we have to get back to it at some point. But I've at least whittled some of the hours down. Have you gotten to your punishment dustin not yet no i i was focused on getting our stream ready for monday so probably in the next week or so uh i'll stream that on my my twitch channel so i look forward to that really i people were uh talking about like oh well dustin's punishment isn't a real punishment but you can actually tell how seriously you can actually tell how serious of a punishment it is but based on how how much he's pushing it into the future yeah i really yeah you got to put your shoulder into it that's what i was doing with kingdom hearts my god just put my shoulder into it it's like jumping into the pool you know you just got right right you got to do it yep yep that's exactly right all right let's get with six questions comments concerns thoughts and ideas from the audience to end this episode of sacred symbols of playstation podcast as we always do remember you can submit your inquiries on patreon.com slash last day media in the weekly threads in the newsfeed.
3:33:27I pick through those. You've already heard a bunch of them throughout the show. Here's six more. Cameron Keough wrote in, or Ko? I don't know. Said, hello, Sacred Hots. On the back of the legendary new Magic the Gathering and Final Fantasy collaboration, I write to you to ask a simple question show I'm sorry, a simple question show and tell segment. What is your single favorite piece of video game merch or memorabilia and how did you come by it? Dustin, do you have an answer for this? i do i forgot the show and tell part because it's downstairs so i can't i mean i could go get it why don't you go get it chris you can go get it chris do you have anything you'd like to answer
3:34:02Colin Moriarty:with yeah well i mean i know there's one that got away from me which was i really wanted there was like a a replica of a lancer from gears of war the chainsaw rifle the famous famous icon and it was like three hundred dollars or something it was like a real replica with like lights and shit and I was like oh man I want that but like$300 is crazy by the way I could have afforded it no problem at this point like it was just like I was just for some reason like is it smart to do this and I thought nah I'll get it when it's cheaper and now it's like$1 ,000 so I gotta fuck myself on that but the one that I think of which is I still think it's the coolest gift that I've ever gotten but it's this this arbiter statue oh yeah that's cool that i just fucking adore i think i got this at like a software etc or like like all right a gift from a friend who bought it at software etc but i think it's sick i think it looks great i feel like they don't make i mean they do but it's like it's more special edition stuff like this was just off the shelf you know what i mean like you just get shit that that was high quality like that and now i feel like it's more like a special edition kind of like you know collector's bundle like you're not finding that at target anymore but unfortunately that's that's the one that's at least in uh in spitting distance the obviously the chief helmet iconic that's probably that probably is my real answer but that's the that statue is right next to me so i could show you did you get did you get your item dustin i did so i think i've mentioned this on a show before but i haven't shown it um i cannot disclose who gave this to me there are many people at sony that listen to the show and sometimes speak to us this is a employee only dual sense controller that was given out for holiday 2022 and these are so rare that they only they only a few of them have popped on ebay so cool that's one of the coolest things in my collection some other one thing i thought of because this is cool but uh there's also like you know it's cool because it's rare and it's interesting that it's hard to get or whatever um i have some other weird things that one of my uh friends that lives in japan gave me a wii u game that i can't even remember what it's so like no one cares about it, some obscure game.
3:36:39Colin Moriarty:And he told me, he's like, what's special about this Wii U game is that when Iwata passed away, they were handing out the games from his office to different employees at Nintendo. And this is one of the games from Iwata's office. Yeah, that's awesome. So there's literally no way I could prove that it is one of Iwata's games, but that's okay. I don't need to just because I know that the guy that gave it to me wouldn't lie right and it's not that this guy works for nintendo but he knows people that works for nintendo and that's how he got it um so that's one of my favorite things that i have as well that shout out that kind of sounds like it kind of sounds like you got some of his loot i mean i think they were just like what are we going to do with all this stuff in his office that his family i don't know if his family didn't want it or they looted immediately yeah that's crazy so i want to give a shout out this isn't i mean it's kind of merchandise when i was a kid i used to get the sonic the hedgehog ice cream that had the gumball eyes oh yeah and they always they were never right like these never looked anything like the package there's something about the sonic ice cream that's iconic to this day yeah for me i was looking behind me just to make sure i didn't forget because i have like all sorts of things i love like i have a lot of cool plush you can't really see them in the shop but let me see will they come through yeah it's like down here i have like a monokuma plush i really like cactar um slime those are all from japan which is cool but um and i have a bunch of things like unopened things that I like but I think I pulled this off my shelf is and this has come up in the past is that I have a copy of resistance three signed by the whole team that worked on it but like inside the disc and stuff too and it says if you look close resistance three loves Colin and this was of course incredibly inappropriate probably to get at the time that I was a journalist but I was actually so close to Insomniac at this time that I was not allowed to review resistance because they were afraid people wouldn't believe it because i was always down there reporting on stuff um so they gave me this which i thought was really cool um so yeah that still sits on my shelf that's cool as well yeah um but yeah i have a lot of i sold a lot of or then sell but as i said before i had a bunch of really rare stuff that i traded for gi joe so i had um i had you know what do i have it still up here yeah actually there's one other thing he's off searching look at him over there gallivanting this is a Mega Man 9 this is really rare and expensive when it ever pops up but this is Mega Man 9 press kit and inside is a cartridge like an NES cartridge and they even have like the price tag on it and stuff and it's wrapped in plastic and like an NES style box and inside is like the press kit with all the information or whatever but this is worth an enormous amount of money and i love i love this this is a cool this popped up at some point years ago for many hundreds of dollars i assume it's worth more than that now unopened let's see the last one sold for three hundred dollars yeah it's kind of cool so not bad no not bad at all not bad at all and by the way this is this artwork is awful by design for people that don't know the first megaman game had like awful artwork in the west and so this is supposed to be kind of like a play on that yeah okay i feel like there's more examples that i'm just forgetting yeah but same oh well joey rawlings joey rawlins wrote in and said hi guys as i'm listening to the latest episode of sacred symbols after eating an edible and playing power wash simulator a thought appeared between a different space and time is there any reason that power wash simulator 2 wouldn't benefit from a little big planet like mode where players can make custom levels for people to complete complete it sounds like something that is brilliant but that's the that the t is but that's the thc really hitting hard right now thanks for reading my comment i'll alt plus f4 myself and listen please don't do that um it's a great idea actually yeah i wonder exactly i'm sorry a map maker yeah it's yeah it would be awesome i don't i'm trying to think about how it would work i guess like you would have to have an a source of assets so it would probably be everything in the game in other words i don't know how you couldn't have like a dreams like setup of doing like whatever you wanted but clever people would certainly be able to create recreate things or just create their own whatever i love that idea dude that's a great idea and i wonder if they're thinking of doing something like that like a ugc style we were talking about infamous 2 before it's another game with a lot of ugc in it that would be an interesting component of um yeah i love that idea for power wash simulator too i would do that i would play that they do such a good job of supporting it they're always updating it with free stuff i don't play the free maps because there's no trophies involved in them so i feel like it's a waste of my time but the dlc that i the dlc i get uh i i um those all have trophies and i do buy i still have to buy the wallace and gromit dlc that's the last expansion that they'll probably do for the original so i'll get to that later in the summer probably everything's filthy grommie it's crazy the it is crazy to me that it's like oh hey free content of no cost to me i'm gonna completely ignore it because there's no trophies you're literally like leaving money on the table yeah i there one of them is a final fantasy map actually i think final fantasy 7 specifically because square enix square enix is the public was the publisher of a power watch simulator oh cool was it like a midgar kind of i would imagine yeah i think he said exactly what it was and i think like i think there might have been like a big buster sword in the middle of it and stuff um that's hilarious so i think they embed these in there they might be they might be download packs but i'm actually pretty sure they patch the games with these things and then the the actual physical downloads are the um the codes like the keys to get access to the actual content that's already on your system which is always a good way to do it yeah so i love that idea power wash simulator 2 little big planet like power wash simulator 2 mode i think that would be really cool i wonder if they'll do something like that i wonder if that's what other people would want either i think that would keep the game alive potentially forever yeah yeah i mean i don't my assumption is that UGC has kind of like gone the way of the dinosaur because people making their own content makes it so they're less likely to buy content sold to them like if if you could just build your own map why would you build it why would you buy a map pack you know what I mean yeah that's true which is unfortunate but I still think there's ways to get around it I think I think there's a way that you could make power wash simulator like that I just wonder how many people are playing power simulator that are even into that level of gaminess or into that level of like custom creation because i feel like the ugc sphere in general is kind of small like the amount of people who spent time i know a lot of people in like the old halo games who would play on forge maps but like i knew like i don't think i knew anybody who made their own like seriously except for me because i'm a nerd huge nerd nerd alert nerd alert joseph jury wrote in and said with microsoft gutting about 50 of the staff at turn 10 according to reports i actually think it's substantially higher than that do you think playstation will make a move to fill the sim racing void left by forza motorsport by porting gran turismo to xbox the hardcore racing sim genre on console seems like a small but devoted market share that sony can now dominate by striking while the iron is hot but i could just as easily see sony forcing these racing sim junkies to abandon their pricey wheels and other accoutrements and join the playstation ecosystem to get their virtual racing fix what say you dustin turn 10 is is microsoft's 20 year old racing studio that they founded in the xbox original xbox era and the first forza came out in 2005 on the original xbox as people might recall it's a pretty central ip that was actually sandwiched in between halo and gears it's older than gears by a year which is interesting as well but it's always that trilogy of ip that's really relevant when i was on xbox 2 i was expressing to the guys there that i was they asked me like what were the biggest surprises out of the layoffs and like the guttings of the microsoft studios and the recent round of layoffs and i had said i was surprised by turn 10 and they had told me they're like that wasn't surprising us at all like forza motorsport is is decreasing in relevance majorly and forza horizon is what everyone cares about now, which is obviously playground games and not turn 10.
3:45:29I wonder if you feel like there's an opening here. As I understand, turn 10 has been gutted to the point where they just have people supporting the Forza Motorsport release from 2023, and that will basically be sunset at some point and that they're not making another Forza game, mainline Forza game. Is there an opportunity for Sony to publish their major racing series here, their best-selling game? Best-selling series, I should say.
3:45:56Colin Moriarty:yeah and i think that it's not impossible because i think that sony does view gt7 as a live service game in a lot of ways um i think that we would if this was going to happen we would want we would see it on pc first which still has not happened um so that indicates to me that sony does feel some kind of like like they want to protect it to some degree maybe in their estimations through data and whatnot that they feel like gt7 is a true system seller for hardcore racing fans that this is a game that they really don't want to spread the field with so i think it's weird i think it could make sense but i think just the the signs we've seen on how sony's treated so far it doesn't feel likely.
3:46:52Colin Moriarty:Once it's on PC, I think the likelihood shoots up, but the fact that it still hasn't crossed over tells me they're holding on. Yeah. The rumor about the PC port was that it was canceled. I don't know if that's true or not. Like you said, they might've gotten cold feet on that entire idea because it's such an important entry point for hardware buyers, Gran Turismo. It's just such a well-respected franchise. Chris, would you be interested in seeing Gran Turismo migrate to Xbox now that turn 10 has kind of been all but dissolved and forza motorsport is going to be i guess lingering for a few years and then probably put out the pasture yeah i mean i think it would be cool uh i'm i'm always in support of this kind of thing like just like get get everything as ubiquitously playable as possible but i don't think it's particularly likely i think um even with hell divers i just kind of feel like there's that makes more sense to me um And I just kind of feel like although they do view it as a live service, the lack of the lack of a PC version of it, the fact that it is so peripheral driven to like there's so many.
3:47:55Colin Moriarty:I don't know. I do feel like maybe they benefit more from it, just like being a particularly bespoke. A particularly bespoke game and a bespoke series. And I wonder also how many people are on Xbox for Forza or just how many people who are on Xbox happen to play it. Like, because I know Forza Horizon is the big thing, which is not surprising to me because even I like Forza Horizon. Like Forza Horizon 5, I thought was genuinely very good. And I don't care about those games really at all. So those games have a unique appeal that that hardcore sim racers don't have. and although Forza has always been like the main competitor the fact that the fact that they're not or that it seems like it's not happening anymore and it seems like it's very likely that that's the case um I would almost argue well why should we give why should we we should make them just come here you know if we're not going to put it on pc then we should just make them come here like I don't see why we would not do that well I agree that the game would have to go to PC first.
3:49:03I mean, it wouldn't even make any sense. Otherwise, they would never put it on Xbox before putting it on PC. I mean, so yeah, that is the first, Dustin's right in that that is the first thing to watch. Kyle Principato wrote in and said, I was curious if you had all seen that there was yet more calls from many on Twitter asking for a Spider-Man 2018 port to Xbox. Not quite sure what sparked this renewed interest from Xbox fans, but perhaps it was related to the Helldivers 2 announcement. Is there a world in which Sony sees any value in this? From my vantage point, I don't think this makes much business sense as there is little to be gained from an Xbox release of the game.
3:49:33Thoughts? Thanks. I'll hang up and I should probably give my mother a call. You definitely should keep in touch with your mom.
3:49:42Okay, so this is obviously a conversation that's happening and will continue to happen. I mean, Helldivers 2 is going to open this floodgate. And that's why I did the conversation with the Dukes about what Xbox games would migrate over potentially, or I'm sorry, what PlayStation games might migrate over to PlayStation. Let me start again. What PlayStation games might migrate over to Xbox now that the Helldivers 2 scenario has been unfolded because I think that that does mean something um but it's like what does it mean you see a lot of really reductive reasoning about this that I think is stupid and if your answer is to like well if someone asks you like why would PlayStation release Spider-Man on Xbox and your answer is because they want to make money then it's like a retarded answer because then it's like well why wouldn't you release everything anywhere everywhere then you want to make money why isn't donkey kong coming the fucking playstation they want to make money i mean it's there's an opportunity cost like you it's not that simple there's so much more to think about than that um so yeah it's interesting to um to consider this idea that they would bring more games over to xbox i think there's something to talk about with that, but I don't understand where you get from Helldivers to Spider-Man.
3:51:03I do think Spider-Man is like the most logical of the core PlayStation IP or PlayStation related IP because it is a licensed game and they probably do want to extract more money out of it and they're not making as much money on it as they would if the game was selling as well as it was, but it was a PlayStation IP and so there's something to that, but I just don't think there's... I don't think we're there yet. And I don't know that it would make much business sense. And what I really think that what I think Sony would be wise to do, especially now knowing what Xbox is going to do, most likely with Steam and integration, is to just wait.
3:51:39Like you just wait, you don't ever have to do it. You don't ever have to publish these games on Xbox. They'll be available on PC through Xbox, and you'll be able to win without giving any money to your direct competitor as they're kind of spiraling out. I think Helldivers is an interesting example of a game where they're trying to spread the field with games as a service. And that's why I think that obviously we already know that Marathon is coming. And that's cool. And I was saying earlier that I think fair games is probably the most logical game to bring day and date to all the platforms if you're trying to spread the field.
3:52:09But the single player stuff, I think that comes at a pretty substantial cost. And yeah, they would make money, but at what cost? Like, what does that mean? Yeah, you would sell a lot of units of God of War. you would sell a lot of units of uncharted if it's only about making money in the short term then put them all on xbox but if it's about strategy around your platform then i just think i think you have to think about it more deeply than that um and so for my vantage point it makes no sense but maybe well the thing you have to admit about hell divers is that it obviously opens up a whole new world of possible realities that were not really conceivable before although the more I think about it, the more like Death Stranding really opened that up because that was a PlayStation IP at the time, just like Helldivers, both made by second parties.
3:52:56Colin Moriarty:Yeah. It's not really quite unrelated. So that might be the line that they're going. I just still think that it makes more sense for them to interact with Switch and Nintendo than it does for Xbox simply because I think that Xbox is kind of winding down and I don't know why you'd want to give them any more oxygen. If you want to extract more money out and see what happens with Helldivers, I think that's great idea and see what happens and maybe that will encourage them to do more of that but i think the more you bring the single player like closely held stuff over the more it's going to affect um the more if it's going to affect the core product do you guys have any thoughts you want to add share yeah i think that people looking at hell divers coming to xbox as equivalent to phil spencer in that awkward podcast business meeting thing saying oh it's just four games you know and how that snowballed i don't i don't think it's the same type of moment for playstation as it was for xbox at the time um and i think you're right that it is important to remember about hell divers being not only live service but also second party and what maybe arrowhead what either what part of their agreement was or what they pushed for um and just that specific game i think what it'll we'll be able to read more about what is going to happen on if there's a second game in the next year or so um because it might just be hell divers and then that's kind of it until there's another really successful live service game from sony anthony what a chris only that i don't think it's i i think the people reading into hell divers coming or i think it's it's a little bit too uh it's a little too optimistic i think i think marathon will come obviously uh yeah exactly but uh i mean well when i say i think marathon will come i mean i think marathon might at one point exist potentially yeah i don't know what the fuck's going on with that i think they just uh i think i saw something about them doing closed play tests this month new play test so hopefully it'll be interesting to get a code i wonder how much art is missing but i don't know i i think um i think hell divers makes sense in a lot of ways um not not just because of the you know whatever the agreement might be or just because it's a live service initiative but because like straight up if you look at hell divers like that's a hell divers 2 is an xbox ass game like it's like there's something that's it's very like like 360 coded in a lot of ways um and so it kind of does make sense to like why not try and in some sense i think they look at xbox as at least as a hardware manufacturer and as as a direct competitor i think they look at them as like well they're kind of they're dying clearly um let's try and run some experiments while we can't because like why not like it's kind of like it's like testing drugs on somebody on like an animal that's going to die in like a day he's like we might as well like see what this does it's kind of how it strikes me so i think hell divers is one of those um i wouldn't expect more stonehorn wrote in to colin i keep seeing you mentioned marble tocon should have just been a have should have been a fighting game i think you mean playstation fighting it i can usually find the logic in your opinions even where I disagree, but this time I just don't see it.
3:56:26What part of a PlayStation fighter do you think would be more exciting than Marvel characters? Except for the few who are massive PlayStation fanboys, I don't think a PlayStation fighter would have anywhere near the popularity and legs that Marvel does. I can't find anything interesting about creaky-kneed Joel fighting Astro Bot or Jyn fighting Ratchet. Is the old-ass lady from Returnal going to fight Kratos? None of that sounds enticing to me, but on the other hand, Marvel has a long, storied history in fighting games that gamers have cherished for decades. I understand that licensing Marvel is expensive, but I can't see a PlayStation fighter being anything but a failure or Sony doesn't need.
3:56:52Also, how do Chris and Dustin feel about this? I'll leave now and hang out with my chocolate lab who comes running every time he hears the podcast or any other sign of any human he might get petted by. Thank you, Stonehorn, for writing in. I just radically disagree with this. You have Arc System Works, access to arguably the greatest fighting studio in the world and certainly one of the top three and most prolific, I mean, unquestionably. So you ask, like, how do you deploy those resources and what do you do with them? I'm not saying that this game is going to be big or not. I have no fucking idea.
3:57:24I will remind you that there are many Marvel fighting games that were not big. So the idea that there are, I played many of them when I was younger. So the idea that a Marvel IP, especially in this era, is a guaranteed success, I think is kind of silly. I think it's going to depend highly on the game, which I think is going to be great. And hopefully people are attracted to it. The platforms it will be available on and where that people, you know, this might be a game to put on Xbox. For all I know, I have no idea, you know, if you want to really spread the field. But I find it hard to believe that if you didn't execute, imagine the game you just saw in Marvel Tokam, but it was PlayStation characters.
3:57:59You don't think that people would be attracted to that? I just don't agree. I think that it's exactly the shot in the arm that the brand needs. And I'm not saying it would be just that or it is that, but I think it could be that something new and different, something that they tried to kind of broach with PlayStation All-Stars, but they didn't do well. And so do I think it would be like the biggest thing of all time? No, I try to remind people all the time. Like Street Fighter six is that 3 million copies sold. Not a very big game. Claire obscure sold more copies than Street Fighter six did in a month.
3:58:38And that's like amongst the king of the fighting games right now. So this is not a huge market. It's not, you have obviously moral combat. You have the arc system stuff and a few other odds and ends. so i don't know that marvel token has more than a few million potential customers to begin with and i think that's something like smash brothers which is tens of millions has more ubiquitous has a more ubiquitous and it has for a long time since the n64 era has a more ubiquitous footprint because it grabs from many different fan bases and makes something really successful by making them all cogent put together.
3:59:18I don't understand what is so weird for people to get about this. Like, do I think it would be a guaranteed hit? No. Do I think it has the potential to be way bigger than another Marvel fighting game? Yes, I do. I do believe that. I really do. Arc System is the perfect studio to do something like this. It's not happening, so it's obviously an alternate universe kind of idea, but I don't think it's that off base. I really don't. To me, I just don't see. I think people are under this impression that like Marvel versus Capcom was like the biggest thing in the world that sold 50 million units or something.
3:59:52And I'm like, no, I didn't. I loved it. I was playing it on Dreamcast and in the arcades and all that kind of stuff. And I played Street Fighter or X-Men versus Street Fighter. And I played all these. I mean, I was there. I know I was there, especially with my brother being who he is and playing all these fucking games all the time. But I think it would be much more novel to do something with your own brand. so yeah i stand by that completely i don't think it's that out of line do you guys have anything
4:00:14Colin Moriarty:you want to add i i kind of see both sides but i think i lean a little more towards stonehorn that i think the marvel is a much safer bet and one that will have much higher payoff as cool as a playstation fighter would be to people like us um and how cool it could be for the brand at large like that Marvel versus Capcom fighting collection wasn't it just in like the top 10 sellers of the year for PlayStation 4 or something yeah for the month I don't know if it's for the year and I think that that fan base the FGC community loves Marvel versus Capcom and they feel burned by the most recent one and they fucking love Arc System Works so this is like a dream come true project for that entire community so to me that's like the most if if i'm in charge and i have two two possible ways and the success is going to reflect on me i'm signing the marvel game like every day uh just because it's like it it feels like a guaranteed hit for that community with those elements combined yeah i just don't know how people can look at the fighting game scene and think that anything is guaranteed to be a hit and that you wouldn't want to shake things up more um and not license i don't know i see what you're saying i obviously i'm in the minority on this i mean chris do you have any uh anything you'd like to add yeah i mean i i think um i just think as a brand marvel is more more pliable i think you can do more it's more flexible i should say which is to say that like marvel token is like this japanese kind of anime infused take on all these characters which in and of itself is kind of new and interesting and novel and different from what we've seen in marvel fighting games typically so there's already a fresh angle there it is the best fighting studio uh in arc system works working on this thing and it is something that harkens back to something that is um revered quite heavily in a in a community that while not huge in numbers in comparison to the overall casual space or even even some elements of the hardcore space um more of them would probably be willing to bet stake their bet on this than i don't you know joel miller versus cole mcgrath i think which is inherently a little bit more like i i wonder how how flexible you can even be with playstation characters in a way that doesn't take away from the fact that in the same way that smash brothers is like an authentic representation of pretty much everybody in that roster like i i wonder i wonder if playstation is just kind of like You can't really like how do you stylize the the PlayStation characters in a way that like appeals to a modern like I guess you can maybe like celciate it like anime looking Drake.
4:03:19Colin Moriarty:I don't know. I just feel like it's too restrictive in like how you how you can represent those characters. I think it can't be done. I think like Arc System Works would definitely be able to crack that code. but I think they have more runway with Marvel and I think they have more probably have more creative freedom they probably have more characters to pull from the PlayStation roster is at the very least the modern PlayStation owned roster if you go associated I would love that I would love to see Crash Bandicoot and Jack and Drake but as far as the IP that they own yeah I don't know it seems like a tougher challenge and Marvel's probably a safe bet even as tired as we are of Marvel stuff and you know I'm tired of you know I haven't cared about Marvel in a while but it is still highly relevant there are people making careers that are just like covering just Marvel movie news and it's just like that's crazy to me that there's even that much of a hunger but yeah I don't know i think tokan looks sick also by the way that kind of helps i think it looks great i'm just just spitballing about yeah other possibilities and ideas spencer smith has the final inquiry says hello my fellow split fiction clit frictioners what the fuck does that mean jesus you know like i can't remember what show i was on that my friend brandon once and so he was like oh you're playing clit friction like oh no the audience really like that the other morning in early a.m i accidentally deleted my expedition 33 save file i was about 12 hours into the story i have a newborn and usually can fit in about 30 minutes to an hour of play before work i woke up about 5 a.m put on a pot of coffee and in my delirium somehow deleted my save file instead of selecting play i sat there in disbelief for a time it was certainly my fault as i then looked at what i had i had to do to delete the save file press triangle not cross then hold cross after being prompted that this was an irreversible action i'll never understand how I manage this.
4:05:24I've since returned to where I was with the game on easy and while skipping all cutscenes, it only took about two hours. My question is, have you done anything similar? Lost a save file accidentally or otherwise with a large amount of progress? Did you recover from it or not? I'll sit back and slitter my clitter. Have a lovely week, gentlemen. It's horrifying.
4:05:40Colin Moriarty:That is amazing. That's the best one yet. Slitter my clitter. Dustin, have you lost a save before that has stuck with you? yeah uh in first grade one of my pokemon saves got corrupt had to restart and i definitely cried oh i would cry this situation yeah i would cry big time now spencer assuming he's playing on playstation and you have playstation plus you could have if you delete the in-game save and then you realized you could have loaded your cloud save back up you would have been fine yep it sounds like you've got the system sorted out but you have if there's a good chance you had a backup of that save if you acted quickly so it's unfortunate but uh thankfully i don't think i've lost any progress in any game in a very very long time um mainly those cartridge games dude you look at them wrong breathe on them wrong yeah the battery the battery's dying it's over and i'm and as i've noted many times you nes the nes would just delete your saves if you didn't hold the reset button in when you shut off some of those games which is why i don't there were games like I think Castlevania 2 had a battery and on the Famicom, but in the West, it had a password system.
4:06:53And I'm like, I'd prefer the password system actually for these more rudimentary games because at least you can't lose your progress. I've, I've lost a lot of saves over time. I've told the story before my dad dated this woman, Joanne in like the mid nineties. And she had two kids. One of them was my age. Her name was Kim and we got along fine or whatever, but she had a little brother named Brandon. He was a little piece of shit. and uh i uh had an snes with a bunch of different games and i had like a complete save file of zelda link to the past and i returned i think i was playing it and like deep into it and like kind of looking around and i came back and he had like deleted it uh because he was like playing the game and i like fucking lost it i just lost my mind um so that's like a that's a a memory for me for sure and uh more recently during the ps3 era my my ps3 broke and i had to send it in and i was in the middle of rainbow moon which was a side quest developed east asia soft published role-playing game on p that was actually a ps3 exclusive for a while and so i lost a bunch of progress in that too that was probably the last time it happened to me because after that it was all about cloud saving and i am crazy about cloud saving like i every time i shut a game off i just I manually upload the save to the cloud.
4:08:13It's like, there's no way I'm losing these saves. Like I can't, the games are too deep today. And like, there's too much time spent in them. If I, if I was raw dogging and playing death stranding director's cut for 70, 80, 90 hours, and just hoping my console didn't die, I wouldn't even be able to do it. It would be like too much for me. I like this has to exist somewhere else. It's too risky to have the safe sitting here. Chris, do you have any that come to mind for you?
4:08:37Colin Moriarty:Honestly, I don't, I'm sure this has happened to me. I'm sure I've lost, an important save file i'm sure i've like spent hours and hours trying to do something only to lose progress but i really don't i can't remember anything like this really happening to me in in the context that it sticks in so much as that it still sticks with me today or that i vividly remember it i remember losing like you know maybe like an hour or two or you know having like a memory card crap out i mean like ah all my progress for like several different games but i i i the issue is like back in those days i replayed the same games over and over and over and over and over again and so for me losing a save just didn't really matter because i was just gonna get to where i was anyway like saves don't really have a lot of value to me unless unless we're talking about something like uh death stranding or like modern games they matter to be more but i've also as time has gone on as we've entered and and gone through this modern era i just find that saves are safer like i feel like i don't lose as many saves as i used to there's cloud saving obviously um there's account saving too on steam and cross cross cross progression for a lot of things so i don't know like the closest thing that i can imagine that is like maybe somewhat adjacent to this is that i remember going on this achievement hunt uh back in the 360 days and me and my friends all gathered to get this uh really really difficult achievement and we were making really really good progress and then we got to like damn near the end i think it was like maybe we had two more checkpoints to go and then i got red ringed that sucks that was that was the only experience that's even remotely analogous to this but that's not really a save issue that's more of like you know fucking complete hardware failure and then like i could still jump back and do it but i had to wait like three weeks because you had to set you had to wait for them to send you the coffin you had to put the 360 in the coffin you had to ship it out you had to wait like god knows how long and then you had to wait for the fedex guy to come and then you had to hope that the fedex guy cared enough to actually like because i swear to god this happened to me a couple times back then where i would i would i waited for my 360 and then i would just i've been home all day and then i'm like looking where the fuck is it and then i go to the front and there's a sticker on the door it's like oh sorry yeah bullshit here we weren't here so we took it to some fucking random undisclosed location and fucking we hope you get it it's like cool thanks amazing but uh that's the only experience that i had that was even like that and i guess like in a similar vein although we're getting further away from the main topic Like platinuming or going through the process of trying to platinum Allen way to only to have that one trophy glitch on me.
4:11:28Colin Moriarty:I was like, okay. Like, I don't, I'm still kind of working my way back up to like going back and finishing it off. Cause I'm just like, man, I really do love that game and I do want to play it again, but that really bothered me. Cause I would have had it by now. Yeah, that sucks. Yeah, that sucks. Well, everyone salute to everyone. That's a loss to save rough. rough to lose a save salute you alright that's all we have for this episode of sacred symbols of the playstation podcast it was a good one let's go around the horn and say goodbye to everyone be on our merry way Chris goodbye to you be well any plans for the rest of your day not really I just gotta pay some bills although maybe I'll just send them to Pan Bondi's desk so they can just fucking vanish into the ether I don't know outside of that I think I'm probably gonna try I'm going to try and dedicate some time to the stranding today.
4:12:23Colin Moriarty:I think also after this, I'm probably going to go get a haircut. My hair is getting. It's getting annoying. It's getting too long, too frustrating to deal with. So I think I'm just going to go do that probably immediately after this. Well, Godspeed to you, my friend. Be well. Dustin, goodbye to you. Be well. Any plans for you for the rest of the day? Plans for me? I am. As soon as we are done recording, I'm going out the door, getting wings with the boys. so excited about that and then when I get back I'll do some work for the show get it ready for tomorrow and then it's Donkey Kong time so that's about it I'm going to a retro game show this weekend in Cleveland unfortunately but it's a good show because it's not just video game sellers like it's like people that have collections that they're selling off so you can get some good deals cool so looking forward to that godspeed good luck anything you're keeping an eye out for specifically um megaman 64 complete in box oh cool to complete my megaman legends collection nice nice well godspeed to you my friend um for me i don't know what i'm gonna do maybe i have to work out probably it's hot i'm gonna go outside but it's just too hot it's just too fucking hot out muggy gross and then uh i don't know play more death row who am i kidding i want to play more at the training too after that as one does but i appreciate all of you guys out there for your love kindness and support thank you for being here with us um you can get us three days early and ad free over on patreon.com slash last day media could not do without you and your support over there so we appreciate your kindness love and support last day media dot store for merch i think that's pretty much it we'll see you next time for more until then goodbye see ya take care guys sacred symbols a playstation podcast is a product and trademark of last Stand Media and Colin's Last Stand LLC and is proudly recorded in the USA.

4:20:22dot com for all the great deals happening now. Save big money at Menards. Are you a lifelong learner with a never-ending hunger for trivia? Well, you might like our podcast, The Quizard's Pit. Hi, I'm Shane Madej. And I'm Matt Riau. Oh, and we love learning. And we love cracking wise and having a laugh. But what we have to tell you is very serious. Every single week we get sucked into a dungeon by an evil space wizard named the Quizard. And we can't leave until we each give three of the most interesting and obscure facts we can find on whatever topic he asks. Sure, we get abducted against our will, ripped away from our families and lives as we know them, but we have a good time.
4:20:57And we get to learn. And we get to teach. And once we give the quizard enough facts, he sends us home. Big whoop. If that sounds fun to you, and why wouldn't it? Then why not get sucked up with us into the quizard's pit every single Monday? That's quizard's pit. Q-U-I-Z-A-R-D-S-P-I-T. You're going to like the way you learn. I guarantee it. Matt, that's really good. Anyway, the Quizzards pit wherever you get your podcasts.

Sony-owned Santa Monica Studio is one of PlayStation's first party powerhouses. Responsible for the God of War franchise -- and, other than Kinetica early in the PS2 era, only the God of War franchise -- there was some excitement building about what was next. But what if it's just more God of War... at least kinda? New rumors indicate that Santa Monica is working on something more familiar than we might have hoped, and from our perspective, that can only mean one thing. We discuss. Plus: Sucker Punch expresses interest in returning to Infamous, Ghost of Yotei gets special edition PS5 hardware and a DualSense, HBO's second season of The Last of Us earns a ton of Emmy nominations, concept art for Deviation's cancelled PlayStation exclusive emerges, Dragon Quest VII is apparently being remade at Square Enix, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! With the demise of Xbox's Turn 10 Studio, is it time for PlayStation to port Gran Turismo to its rival's machine? Is Colin totally off-base with his desire for Arc System Works to create a PlayStation fighter instead of a Marvel one? What's the worst example in our personal gaming lives of losing a save file?
