1:10greetings and salutations welcome back to sacred symbols a playstation podcast this is episode number 383 my name is colin moriarty i'm joined as always by my son chris raygun chris what is that a starbucks yeah you know i made a little run yeah myself uh what is it a they make this iced hazelnut oat shake and espresso that's kind of good geez louise which is crazy right i'm like what the fuck is all this yeah trial and error though a lot most of the most of the coffees of these places i tend to just not like but eventually i find one and i'm like all right that'll be a that'll be an old reliable you know it's complex like that i'm in i don't really like starbucks it's fine i mean i don't drink coffee really but i'm intimidated by it because it's just it seems like it's a lot like there just is so many a lot it doesn't seem like anyone's ever ordering a coffee i know it's like something else and it's got you know three shots of this and a little squeeze of this or whatever i'm like i don't know man i don't know what everyone's going and then people circulate the videos on youtube and it's like this is how much sugar is in this and then they'll like hold up the cup and it'll be like this much sugar that's okay i'm not judging whatever you want it's your body it's your life yeah um well you look good you look healthy thanks uh getting settled back in yeah yeah i've it's been i've been in i've been back home for a little bit but like i think when i was yeah because last week was so weird because i was in the episode but i wasn't so like i'm trying to yeah because i was flying i think towards the end of that day and then my computer back home was being weird so i was just like all right i guess i guess i will but then the pickup happened then we did that did you have a nice time at home yeah dude oh my god ah new york city's so great i i it's way better there now than it was a couple years ago which is weird um don't know what don't know what's going on over there that's different but there's something it's funny because we were i didn't see it i only saw queens when i was home but i felt the exact opposite in some way where we my guys never really been to new york or whatever we flew to la guardia so we have to fly you know drive through Queens, like in the Flushing and Chinatown and then like get onto the southern, you know, if we're going to Long Island with the southern state and all the rest.
3:23And I'm like, dude, this looks like a fucking hollowed out apocalypse down here. No, where were you? It like going leaving LaGuardia going southwest towards Nassau County. I wish it was just funny because I was like, dude, this place never changes. Like that was the thing I remember as a kid is like some of these places. My dad worked in East New York, which is like a horrible part of Brooklyn. if people aren't familiar with New York it's like the worst part like ungentrifiable a lot of people say and it felt a lot like that like where I used to go in and visit them and I don't know man I was but I didn't go to Manhattan or anything like that or Staten Island or anything so why would I go to Staten Island Dustin Furman nobody goes yeah exactly you go there when you're trying to go to New Jersey right and why would you be going to New Jersey because you're trying to go somewhere else right well it's good to see you my friend dustin firman executive producer good to see you how are you today you're you look like you're broadcasting from the elusive man ship oh dude i've got the halloween i love the halloween lights from uh summon sign i'll have my still have my prop if anyone yeah gets out of line yeah oh yeah so you were leon i was leon that's right and uh dude i was so annoyed it's funny because i edited the episode last year jimmy was leon on last halloween summon sign oh what a fucking bunk move i know dude it was awful just awful awful poor form i'll do better next time fucking a dude uh now it should be a thing though right now brad's got to be leon next year yeah that's like just keep it going you got to keep someone's got to be leon every year someone's got to be leon i like that if brad isn't leon next year i'm firing him good yeah yeah that's the stipulation yeah uh but i'm doing okay my stomach's been a little iffy this morning and i was trying to figure out why i went to sam's club with my dad a week ago he's like oh you got to try this protein pasta oh and it's good and when you have a small amount i think it's no problem but last night holly made some and sometimes you know holly she likes to she'll get things on the plate for me and set like she doesn't always do that but she did last night she'll fix you a plate she'll fix me a big thing micah tells me this is a big thing in the black community oh okay does the woman fix the man in the plate or doesn't yeah doesn't she yeah she fixed me the plate the portion was out of control uh and i ate it all and then this morning i was like maybe the protein pasta was uh biting back a little bit so uh i think by the end of the show though the show as i've said before will rejuvenate uh my my body my soul my mind so oh and the other thing too i was uh seeing some of the comments i'll try not to stare too longingly not into both of your eyes during this show but to the audience watching they they're not used to the the tell the elgato prompter it's um it might be a bit much yeah you're looking too yeah stop looking at me too much sexual tension i'll try to look a little more disinterested at my my notes monitor this way instead of the few times i've done serious stuff like like where you're like on tv or something like that and you have to look into the camera it is a weird right thing you gotta do it you just gotta do it i don't know what that's all about but freaks me out too all right so you uh bit Jimmy Champagne's do people still use the term biting?
6:53Probably not. You copied his costume. You unsettled the audience with your new camera angle. And again, a good elusive man reference, I thought. The color scheme, you know, because he had that star behind him. I don't know what it was. It was like a star system, right? Or like a galaxy. They were like really close to a star and they were like, and I think he was orbiting that close because it like hid his like where he was because it couldn't be seen from telemetry or whatever yeah that's like two was fucking dope great game great character i was trying to remember him on one of the star texts that we recorded i was trying to remember his name i couldn't remember and i thought it was i was like is it the irresistible man it's the eye man it's something i couldn't remember ironically the word elusive eluded me that's the way it goes sometimes you're the irresistible man chris oh this will compliment for you well i'm uh i'm hanging out nothing going on too crazy in my world it was our anniversary mike and my second anniversary a couple days ago we as i've said many times we like to go to the jefferson in richmond the nice hotel there stay overnight go to dinner whatever but because our anniversary was on a tuesday i was like that's kind of lame time to go you know so we are going in a couple weeks on a friday um and doing that so we went to waffle house for dinner oh hell yeah and it was awesome is your waffle house 24 hour yeah i guess they all are they all 24 hour they all are in fact there's a fema you know so fema's like yeah like where if a waffle if waffle house start closing down things are fucked like that's like it's i think called the waffle house index i think that's what it is the waffle house index right right yeah i was thinking just a few days ago there is the only place open 24 hour that you can get food at in baller sheets sheets yeah i've been there in the middle of the night with you yeah you can't even go to as colin likes to call it the diner or eaton park right i used to be the place that you could go anytime right well the reason we killed it you have to understand the reason we call it the diner and i think chris can probably relate to this a little bit better is just because things like that don't exist where i'm from it's all these like individual mom and pop usually owned by greek families i don't know why uh diners that are just like the one-off like Like the diner my family really loves is called the California Diner and it's on Sunrise Highway.
9:17And it's just a random diet. Like, I don't know. I don't know who the fuck these people. And they like know my like you walk in there and they know my dad. It's like really straight. But then like down the street, there's another diner and it's just unaffiliated. So that's why I just call it the diner. Right. I understand what you mean. It's because it's it's not the diner. It's something else. It's like calling Denny's the diner. It's right. Yeah. No, Denny's is Denny's. You know, I hop is I hop. Right. These are chain diners. Right. And they're fine. It's a chain. It's a local chain, though.
9:44This is a Pittsburgh chain. Oh, is it? Okay. Yeah, I like it. I mean, it reminds me a lot of a Denny's or an IHOP, maybe even a little bit of a step up. I used to go to a Denny's around the corner for myself, where I lived in Santa Monica, and then like a year later, they knocked it down to build a high rise apartment building. So that was the last time I went to. I used to go there in the middle of the night because it was a 24 hour thing. and i love just being there in the middle of the night like with all the weirdos and shit denny's is denny's is real good man i we don't have well we have one probably 40 minutes away but i'm not driving 40 minutes to go to denny's no no no no no you can't do that just not just even if you're really craving it you just on principle can't do that no absolutely not no um yeah so oh so yeah so i was like do you want to go out to eat tonight or whatever or do you want to just stay in and we'll you know obviously celebrate when we go to the hotel and she's and And I was kind of flippantly saying, let's go to Waffle House.
10:38And she was like, really? And I was like, yeah. She's like, I've been thinking about Waffle House recently because I brought her a few weeks ago and we well, she technically she she technically brought me, I guess. But I paid. So I was some sort of fusion of who brought who. But we went together and she had never had. I'm a huge I've been. So my family moved to the South like 25 years ago and a lot of my family did. And I was introduced to Waffle House at that time. And I'm like, dude, this place fucking kind of rules. Yeah. like low-key kind of rules you know and so i've always been into it and when i would come to visit there were two places i always wanted to go one i need to go to waffle house i need to do a chick filet chick filet became way less novel over time we got through california now they're everywhere they're even on long island it's like i saw one when i was out there i was like what like this was like unheard of um but waffle house there's no waffle houses north of i think there's one in delaware and then they're all in the south and it's surprisingly affordable too still it's not like a ton of food and it's just very repeatable and it's it's i like i love waffle house dude shout out the waffle house yeah so it's a great so we went there i'm sorry chris no it's a good place i think i had it for the first time when i went when i was doing the fight in oh yeah i think i'm pretty sure yeah i'm pretty sure that's where i had it the first night it was like this is really good i like how small like i don't know there's something like really it felt very new york going into one of those because it's like a very cramped kind of space but there's like they make a lot of use out of it right it's like you could smell you're never far enough away from the food to not smell it it's a really nice kind of ambiance yeah yeah exactly right they're all the same too yeah so it's like yeah it's like that box kind of thing prefabricated right dropped everywhere like so a lot of funny shit happens at waffle house as we can see on the internet but i've never been i mean i've been to waffle house 25 times or something and i've never seen anything interesting so this is this is this is the subway for me i've taken the subway my entire life i've never been on there where anything interesting is happening right right but i see videos of all sorts of crazy shit i saw where's this where's this happening i saw one video chris i don't know what line it was in new york but it was uh they were like having like a thanksgiving style dinner in the like in the car had like a table all the way down and everyone was just sitting around And I'm like, dude, what is going on?
12:54Only in New York, as Kramer would say. I've never seen any of that shit, man. I'm sad that I've never seen it. I feel like I'm always like, the thing that bothers me is that I know that I know I'm getting off the train. And the second I get off the train, somebody is going to go on the train and something like that is going to happen. And I'm just completely missing it just by a hair. I know it's happening. I feel like I'm being Truman showed out of all the interesting things. Right. Right. So it's like a reverse Truman show, I guess. Yeah, everything pauses. Right. Everything pauses around you specifically.
13:28Right. We can't let this person in to the. All right. Well. It's good to see everybody. It's good to be here with everybody. The other thing, dude, by the way, in the. Here in Virginia is like we do off year elections. Our gubernatorial elections are on the it would be on the fives and the ones, I guess, which is weird. A few other states are like that. Excuse me. New Jersey is like that as well. And I can't wait for this fucking thing to be over. You getting a lot of calls, dude. It's like it must be what it's like for Dustin in Pennsylvania during a presidential election. It's probably worse for Dustin, but because like Pennsylvania is so fucking important.
14:11It's a swing. Virginia used to be a swing state and used to be a red state. Now it's kind of like a light blue state, but it has often Republican governors, Republican like a little bit of balance or whatever. So it's somewhat competitive. I think the Democrats going to win. I don't really care one way or the other, to be honest with you. I don't even, you know, don't pay attention to state politics really, even though I probably should. It's much more close to home, but I'm just so tired of, it's like seven placards in the mail every day, 15 text messages, three phone calls, every goddamn commercial during football or a hockey game or whatever.
14:47It's like enough. And it's always about the other. so it'll be like i'm i'm fred smith and i approved this message and then it's like a commercial all about fred smith's opponent and then fred smith's opponent's like i'm fred smith's opponent and i approved this message and it's a commercial all about fred smith i'm like i can't take it anymore who is this who is this fred fellow and then so much about and and there's like a lot of national attention on it too because of the whole i don't know if you guys know who jay jones is have you guys seen anything about about this in virginia no i didn't like he's the he's the attorney general candidate but he a bunch of text messages were released from him where he was like saying how he wants to like kill kill his opponents and like have them hold their children as they're dying in their hands and all this weird shit oh cool and he's never dropped he didn't drop out of the race it's like whatever but it's like there's so much attention on that so like every commercial is about that specific thing like jay jones wants your child to die you know like in that in that voice kind of thing yeah that's awesome so i just i just want it to be over so it's we're recording this on the 30th tomorrow's halloween one two three so i guess it'll be the fourth tuesday i'll be rolling in voting and then hopefully we can be done yeah so so i guess what i'm saying is like we can't really it seems unfair in virginia like we have to deal with the midterm election and the presidential election and then this third election so you get like no respite for any of it i'm over it yeah we have our mayor election in the city of butler oh who did who did ben uh endorse he's like he's like bill clinton he like comes out and endorses a candidate yeah honestly right now the funny thing i feel like we are on the verge of a black mirror thing happening in butler where there's this guy who's getting very famous uh is he's called boofers of butler and a boofer is a local term and i don't know if it originates to some family but it's basically like a butler hick in a way so there's this guy who's boofers of butler who has like thousands of views and he just goes around i think i've talked to chris about this maybe it was on stream um he goes around and he either films like events on his phone or he'll be like there's a car wreck here and he's like talking there's like some 12 year old on a bike and he's talking to him because the kids saw their the wreck or whatever he knows what's going on there was a shooting at this park and so he's talking to whoever um and i'm like this guy's getting so popular and he's getting so many comments so many people watch his videos in our small little micro community town if this guy ran for office he would win like the black well i guess it's not a real person in the black mirror episode right i'm like this is is getting a little weird episode is the one with the cartoon right yeah that is such a great that is such an interesting episode actually like about how a cartoon runs for like for office i don't remember oh no i do remember that it's one of the weaker episodes i think yeah if i recall in my own mental index but it's been years i've seen any of those i remember thinking that the premise was a lot better than the execution right this is a good idea but i don't know if this worked you know so if i ever get in a car wreck i'm horribly maimed we're gonna have a video of it and it's gonna be this guy's like hey boofers a butler here we're down we're down there's a car wreck down on jefferson street you know and it's gonna be me all mangled up yeah it'll be there forever all pretzled up in the time of the ignition yeah the twisted metal engulfing you i can feel secure that if anything bad happens to me that involves a car or some kind of you know i'm mugged boofers the butler is going to be on it yeah you know dude so when i was when i was in uh new york city there was i was in the throes like right in the the middle of that because there's a mayor election yeah oh yeah i think right oh boy a couple days yeah yeah that's another cycle election is the new york mayor yeah dude there's so many dude such an interesting i don't know if you guys have been paying attention at all but there's this guy curtis he's like the republican guy oh yeah curse lee was a legend dude dude he uh hysterical he's like i and i think you should leave tim robinson sketch he is he's like legitimately i was in the back of the cab and they shot me in the ribs five times and that's why i'm you know it's it's it is the he's one of the craziest guys ever i like him a lot i do i've always liked him he's like he's dude the guardian angels yeah you know i really i dig that that they did that like back when new york was like fucking awful in the 70s and 80s like yeah like really bad like the war that's what made the warriors resonate so much was it wasn't that weird you know it wasn't it wasn't fiction it was uh it was like it was a pvp map basically right right that's exactly right at that time rockstar warriors game is supposed to be good i never played it i know yeah i never played it either i don't think i did maybe i did i don't really remember but yeah if anybody wants to go to lab you got to look up uh some curtis leeway interviews curtis leeway clips they're really fucking funny like it's he's such a new york dude it's crazy like oh definitely it's like somebody in like made him in a lab to be like i need a new york guy and it's like hey there he goes he's wearing a red beret the beret yeah the beret is the the best man what it was i think he said did you see that where he's like it andrew cuomo uh what is it slapping fannies and killing and grannies they're just tag team they're just tag teaming that guy it's it's very funny yeah i made a watch that election it's it's funny because it's just like can we just get it over with already like i just feel like it's been inevitable for months and it's like let's go yeah what do we know it's been like the two that it felt like the 2008 like mccain obama election where it's like all right like yeah let's just do this already and we can move on with our lives there's like it's not very interesting we'll see what happens though um yeah i i uh it's funny curtis lee what i think i was introduced to him i could be wrong like in the 90s i feel like he he had an am radio show that my dad listened to and i think that that's how i i mean my dad just made me into a republican when i was a kid i guess uh just by listening to all this fucking am radio but i think he was one of those guys oh yeah i think he was i think he was probably on there for sure and uh you know with like like rush limbaugh and all the and michael savage and all those random dudes so yeah it's like an inevitable sort of outcome it's like let's just go and yeah getting watching i don't almost a scumbag i mean there's a lot of scumbags in politics so it's not necessarily unique to him but there's a lot of balls i don't mike and i were talking about this actually it's like i don't like when someone runs in a primary loses and then stays in the race it's a bitch move like it's a real bitch move that's the whole thing about him with his with the what is it the uh the sexual assault allegations like he just doesn't know when to accept no for an answer yeah yeah did they do an ad campaign with that because that's actually a great i think so i think i think both i think both zoran and curtis lee would said that on stage or something they're both it's really i don't know it's it's kind of quomo's a weird guy like nobody likes him over there like even when i was over there and i was talking to all sorts of different people like there's a cab driver who's like he was voting sliwa and he was like what do you i was i was talking about i was like what do you think about cuomo i was like i hope he died i got a video i got a video of him by the way i i he was getting these robo calls there's like these these robots keep calling me about health care and he he puts it on speaker and he's like hey do you do you want to qualify for medicare advantage or something or like do you qualify you you might qualify for Medicare Advantage.
22:31And it's like, can you give me a woman? Give me a woman. I don't want anything else. I need a woman. And they're like, and it's like a robot voice. So it's like, I see where you're coming from.
22:43Okay. I got a video of it. I might, I'll send it to you guys. That's good shit. It's very funny. Yeah. So let's, let's just get that over with. And just, yeah, this is just silly season right now. You know, like we got to get through it and then we'll be in the Thanksgiving and Christmas and the festive. part of it um yeah man good yeah and actually i'm leaning into it so welcome to sacred symbols i'll get into what i was about to say i'm leaning into it a little bit sacred symbols a playstation podcast we go live each and every week you get it three days early and add free over on patreon patreon.com slash last day media we couldn't do without you you can by doing that over there and supporting us at the five dollar level which is where most people are get early ad free access to all the shows in our network including sacred symbols plus and this is where i was going because I have the next episode of sacred symbols plus is with a Senate candidate from the state of Ohio.
23:31And it's a, it's like a gamer candidate. It's a pretty crowded field. It's like eight people. But he's like a game developer and an academic or whatever. And we had a really great conversation about a nonpartisan conversation because he's actually running as a Democrat, like I said, so someone I don't politically necessarily agree with, but about why politicians don't understand video games. And it's a really, really great chat. So I guess it's a little bit hypocritical for me to say, like, I'm so tired of all this and then be like the next guest on Sacred Symbols Plus is this. But it's but it's a nonpartisan, not political conversation about what's political, but about video games, about like.
24:11So we talk about things. It's like, why don't any politicians understand anything about video games? Why don't they lean into it? Why, when they lean into it, does it come off as inauthentic? Think about like AOC when she was playing like, like I think when they play Madden or something like that and it was like pretty bad. And the Biden Animal Crossing Island. Right, right. Exactly. Is that real? Yeah. Was it was it? It might have been Harris, actually. It might have been Harris. It was it was definitely Harris. It didn't sound like something because there was another one, too. Well, I also did Among Us with a bunch of people.
24:45Oh, Among Us. That's what it was. Among Us. Yeah. And then, yeah, Newsom did. although the connery's pants fortnight fridays things is more of like that's the point is that it's inauthentic and weird so i don't know because he had george santos on also so george yeah he got to see his um long island's own george santos his uh his uh i don't know i that's the strangest name i ever attached that to but it is it is true he just got commuted he's out yeah on the streets he's defrauded disabled veterans and then everybody's congratulating him like oh you got off congratulations okay i think it's because people think he went to prison for lying to get into congress right and so i think that's what people think he's getting commuted for and i don't think anyone really gives a shit about that honestly i mean it's a bad thing but it's like but no it's actually about about that other thing whatever man everything dude he's a fucking weird cat like he's interesting he's embracing the fact that he's just a villain yeah a lot of people are doing that to be fair but yeah yeah yeah whatever um so he's out on them streets i remember last year tim waltz was talking about and this came up on our conversation actually it was like dreamcast and how he played crazy taxi and all that that felt like probably some of the most authentic gamer talk but we get it anyway we get into the conversation i'm like where is where are all the gamers like it's so strange and like when we get the gamer senator or the gamer congressman i feel like we'll really know because they'll know exactly how to do it like exactly how to meme exactly how to use twitch and all that yeah well wasn't there like years and years ago there like a congressman who was who got in trouble because he was spending all of his all of the money that was being raised for him yeah yeah congress he spent like 13 000 of like public money on steam or something duncan d hunter yeah this 2019 congressman duncan d hunter this is from the attorney general's office uh pleads guilty to stealing campaign funds for steam um yeah i'm trying to find yeah i know exactly what you're talking about though yeah yeah it's hysterical so yeah he was well he tried well he was a congressman for a while i guess yeah they were charged with wire fraud falsifying documents campaign finance violations and conspiracy jesus christ sick can anyone i know there's a legal definition of conspiracy but it's always like i'm like conspiracy like i believe i'm always conspiring there's always a conspiracy like what does that mean yeah the word itself is technically kind of i mean probably not definitionally but like colloquially or like the way we understand it it's technically like in a vacuum it's kind of a neutral statement because you could conspire to do positive you can inspire to like throw a birth like a surprise party for something right right that's a conspiracy and then they come and arrest you for it yeah they kill you and they're like this is by the book you've been conspiring you've been conspiring we're gonna conspiracy is a crime that occurs when two or more people agree to commit an illegal act and take an over an act in furtherance of that agreement so sure i guess it's illegal by definition yeah right i obviously i mean it was just it was a stupid joke i guess uh other perks on patreon rss feeds and the ability to connect your spotify to get the podcast early so you don't even have to interact with the app and submit your inquiries and you'll hear them throughout the show.
28:00You can submit them onto the threads on the news feed that we put up each week. The threads on the news feed go live Wednesdays and are deleted Thursdays for this show, but they go live at different times for all the other shows the guys do. Sacred Streaming is continuing on Mondays at 1 p.m. Eastern time on our YouTube channel. We just streamed Symphony of the Night for like four hours the other night or the other day, I should say. That was fun. It was good. It was a little spooky season kind of thing. We did office hours recently where we just talked to the audience, which I love doing that.
28:31That's easy. You guys played Battlefield recently, which was a lot of fun. Lockmore's cut down of that was great. Really, really funny. Dustin played Baby Steps, which was fun. I'm thinking we will lean into Mega Man now for a minute and just play that on Monday. Anyone can join us if they'd like. So is this a marathon where you're doing like I'll probably do what you originally pitched a year. Like this is going to take seven hours. Yeah, I'll probably do like one through six. I think I mean, maybe I'm underestimating it. I would say because I'll probably stop and all that. But you could probably do it in four hours.
29:03You know, something like that. It's the game. I'll plan for seven. Yeah, right. Well, I mean, we'll just we get to stop at any time. I mean, I don't care. But the reason the inspiration behind it is and I talked to Brad already about it. Was Brad and I wanted to a robot masters like tier list with Brad, but he needs to and he's not getting through the game. So it's like, all right, let's just go through these and like at least get half of them done. He's played some of them, but we'll go through them again. So it's kind of like trying to get to that point, because I think that would be a really fun exercise once we get there.
29:32But he needs familiarity with all of them first. Yeah. And to be clear, I'm not being like, oh, seven hours. I just, you know, it's not going to take seven hours. There's no way if it's going to. Well, you never know. I mean, I haven't played in a year. I mean, it's been a long time since I played it. Really. I messed around with Mega Man one recently, but the others I haven't played since I've lived here. I mean, I haven't played. Right. My point is, I don't mind how long it takes. I'll just be prepared For a long sesh A long goon sesh of the Mega Man Yeah
30:04You okay? I just That was a really exasperated sigh That was like That was very serious It just bothers the shit out of me because I appreciate PR people Over time I've communicated with You know scores of them that I don't accept things from them anymore and i like and i mean we haven't accepted things pretty much ever from them but um well at least since the beginning of sacred symbols and uh so slowly you get removed from these lists of you know like just just press releases and shit and i don't get really many of them anymore but this one company has been sending them to me recently and i talked to them recently about how like i don't do this kind of thing you don't like you're wasting your time so you can just remove me from your list it's no disrespect i'm sure you're very nice people i'm just not going to write or cover or do any of this kind of stuff.
30:51I'm not that kind of media person anymore. And we had a conversation about it. And then so they sent me another press release recently and I ignored it. And then they just sent up a follow-up email to me. Just being like, hey, I just wanted to follow up, check it, these things out. Do you want to cover it? I'm happy to answer your questions. It's like, I didn't mean you have a conversation about this already. It just feels like it's so mechanical and annoying. So yeah, that was my exacerbated size. Like now I have to have this conversation with this person again. Yeah. You could just block it.
31:22I mean, they're using a program. They noticed the program noticed you didn't follow up. So they automated a bump when likely. Yeah, that's probably true. But also I just feel like I want to be removed from these systems. And I also just don't want to waste people's time. Like I try to be straightforward with people like I feel bad for PR people a lot because I've worked with a lot of them and it's like their whole job is like to get attention and it's really tough and you like you want to let them know it's like you're kind of barking up the wrong tree. I've always tried to be like that or you're barking up the right tree.
31:56I mean as the as it might be anyway let's see nerf ninja wrote into us on patron said CDC. I recently watched the sacred symbols 300 celebration and near the end Colin touches on something he discussed on the last sacred streaming episode about LSM shows being there for all of us listeners as we go through our lives. He went on to say that doing these things like these live shows are important because it's a reminder that what you all do matters. It makes us more than data like subs, et cetera. So my question for the boys is this. Do you find that the interaction you have with the audience on sacred streaming brings you closer to the audience and how do you enjoy it compared to the long term or the long form format of the shows now that we're 19 episodes in?
32:34Thanks for the donation. Thank you for the donation. That's becoming a new thing, which is fun. Yeah. i'm i'm loving it to be honest and it's funny it's so easy that like the clarion call of like why don't you just do this like kind of sneaks in like you're making a lot of money doing this and it's really easy and there's something about it that rubs me the wrong way because i'm like no oh, I want to try. Like, I still need to, like, put effort in. And but I think that, like, in the future. It's like I could see myself doing it more. I like the live interaction. I like the uncertainty of it. I like that it keeps you off balance.
33:23And because there's nothing scary about doing sacred symbols or nothing. Like, if, for instance, Chris accidentally says the N word, let's just say. Yeah, as happens often. And quote often. Yeah, we can just cut that out. Right. But if he's on sacred streaming, he says the N word. It's out there. Yeah, there's just there's something about I like the chat. I like, you know, I feel bad because I don't feel like I'm particularly very good at streaming. But but I do enjoy the process. And I'm really glad that like we started doing it. I feel bad that I've like kind of co-opted Dustin into it. But that's just the way it goes.
33:56And I feel like it's brought us closer in some way. If I'm honest, I mean, we were always very close or already very close. but yeah but i feel like i know you a little better now like we're we're talking so much more and i like it no all upside to me to be perfect the money is great but as i said it's like i don't i'm not even doing it for that reason you know it's like i'm really not i just i'm bored like please i'm so bored yeah i think uh as i don't know if it brings us or at least me it feels closer to the audience just because I'm so plugged in on comments and on discord I just really like when often during our streams the audience will make me laugh out loud like there are members of our audience that are really funny that it's fun to to bring up their different messages or and you're right the chaos of the moment there's a different energy with streaming and some people even commented that they feel like the energy from streaming is bleeding over into this show as well and it's a positive uh for some or at least from what i've seen people like it so it's definitely uh a different dynamic and it's been very fun if you know sometimes i feel like i'm building the ship as we're sailing uh just because i i mean i have some experience streaming but i'm not like wasn't a professional stream producer before this but we've got we've got the system locked in i think now and it's going quite nicely i've also been too like i'm becoming more familiar now.
35:26I'm trying to watch more streams. I've actually been, I think I might have said this on a show a couple weeks ago. I've been trying to watch a lot of reaction videos, like music reaction, like just to like get the vibe for what people are looking for or like what some of these people do. Because it's like so unnatural. It's not unnatural. It's just like I'm confused by it and I'm starting to understand it a little bit more. It is fun. You know, I think it's low effort and that's what makes me feel bad about it. But I've also realized in watching more streams and trying to just like tune in, not tune in, but just see what people are doing.
35:56Like, what is it? What are you doing right now? It's like, damn, like we're really doing awesome numbers. And it would be foolish, like comparable to people that do this, like even every day. And it would be interesting to spin that off and try to continue to keep that going. But I don't know. I don't know what the future holds for it. But in the meantime, Mondays have been been a lot of fun. And I appreciate you guys supporting us on there. And of course, if you're at the$5 level or higher on Patreon, you get access to the VOD. So you can watch those and then Lockmore cuts them down. and uh he did a great one for the last weeks he got going with some of the ai and all this oh yeah that was insane
36:35it's funny because i can't even begin to understand like i know chat gpt or gemini or something but all these different engines that i guess are making like music and graphics and i'm like i don't even know what what any of this shit is i don't i can't even begin to understand how that happened. Didn't have that got put together, but it was. Now, we got another letter here from the diddler. This seems like it's apropos of nothing, but I think it's important to talk about here. He says, diddle me this. Who is the fastest and most accurate typer at LSM? My money is on Gene or Colin being the most accurate using proper punctuation, no spelling errors, etc.
37:11The fastest is between Brad and Dustin. Well, my diddle alarm went off, so I'll hang up now so I can diddle myself. I have no problem with you being the diddler if you're talking about diddling yourself. that's fine with me yeah right the self diddler right the reason i bring this up is this would be a good stream oh a typing stream yeah like like to go to like one of these websites and just like have a feverish competition to see who could type the fastest now i i gotta say and i'm not i always say i'm an average player of games and in terms of our family of of people and last and i'm probably on the lower end of game skill actually i think i would win both the accuracy and the speed typing i'm an extremely fast typer like that's true like like ridiculously fast so i'm willing to i'm willing to put that typer that io let's see i just searched multi there you can do group play typing competition you gotta do it this is gonna be awesome i i mean I'm not going to be very good.
38:20Yeah, I'm glad this guy thought, you know, that I might be the fastest, but the accuracy is not good under pressure. I know this from playing that typing battle royale game a few weeks ago. So I don't type correctly. I type with only like these three fingers. It's interesting. Yeah, I'm the same. I don't really. I definitely don't type the way that you're supposed to like, you know, the home, whatever like the 10 and 2 kind of equivalent yeah of like oh this is how you're supposed to do it i'm like i don't i don't do that shit yeah you're supposed to you're supposed to keep your hand like your pointer fingers are supposed to be on the f and the j yeah and and then you go and that's where there's a little indentations usually on the keys yeah i didn't i just didn't i don't know it's when i was a kid it was a thing that we we took but i don't know that they really helped me i really just think that i was completely addicted to the computer when i was a kid and i just slowly I even had one of those keyboards for a while that was like separated with the two hands.
39:17Well, you know, oh, weird. And I use that for a while. Yeah, I don't know. Yeah. So I just I'm a I'm a fast, very fast typer. I don't know why. I mean, I don't know. It's like I'm not I haven't been on the computer much more than you guys have been to this. Maybe it's an age thing because maybe they just you guys didn't take typing classes. Typing classes go back before computers, you know. um so i think maybe i got the last vestige of it no well we took typing oh you did oh you did okay it wasn't like a class it wasn't like you know you you went from math to typing like you there would be like a computer oriented class right right right that's what i had to your typing would be a part of it we had mavis beacon and stuff like that and like i learned it i just i just i just remember feeling like i don't know at the time when i was learning that stuff i remember feeling like the computer is so it this and i didn't think these words obviously but like i remember thinking at the time it's like this is like a really paradigm shifting kind of machine and like this kind of feels outside of the realm of like everything that like everything else is so rigid and the computer feels so open and so like you know i can install all sorts of crazy shit on this i'm like i'm not gonna follow the rules of how they're telling me how to interact with this i i was annoyed that there was like there's a right way to type in a wrong way it's I just remember feeling like, fuck you, you can't tell me that.
40:38And so I just learned how to type completely incorrectly. I think probably out of spite in some way, maybe not directly, but I think maybe subconsciously. I mean, I type fine. I can write pretty quickly, but it's definitely not. It looks insane, I bet. Yeah, I actually had a typing like my seventh period was typing class in seventh grade for a semester. And I didn't learn shit. i already had locked in yeah my bad typing form and it's like it's there's no going back so what you don't see much anymore of which i miss the the the creature called the hunt and pecker oh the you don't see that anymore yeah like people that like really and are like or like don't know where things are on the keyboard like you have to be really old to not know where things are on the keyboard like i don't even look at the keyboard when i put my hand on it anymore i just know exactly where my hand is on it i i look sometimes to be honest like i know where all the letters are but like everything else like the because sometimes because i i went between like mac and pc and a lot so sometimes the the extraneous things like function i remember when function like i never noticed function before a certain point i don't even know if that's a new if that was like a new function the function key was added for windows 95 so like there the the windows key was added for windows 95 and i think the function key was added at that point right but like those kinds of things i have to look down still but like i'm i'm only realizing this as i'm typing now but like i i my left hand takes control of like all of like i type with like the weirdest shit oh no what the fuck did i just do hey what the fuck is this oh no i ruined my entire thing there we go your setup yeah no my keyboard is set up really weird but like i type with like my left hand on all of like the major kind of like one side and then my right hand goes like almost up the entire thing it's very weird interesting i don't even think i noticed that until just now we should we should do it and let's do it let's spend a lot of money on this and and we'll get we'll get document cameras for each of our hands you know the cameras that face downward yeah yeah and uh and then we'll and we'll have like Mavis Beacon competitions like every day.
42:54Oh God. That'd be so terrifying. Yeah. Go ahead. I just hate just realizing like I remember when I was like playing video games at a friend's house and they pointed out that I hold the controller weird and I was like don't don't say these things to me. Yeah. Now I'm going to think about it all the time. The claw and all this. What's the. Oh GeoGuessr. Maybe we should do that too at some point. I love GeoGuessr. It's. there's a guy I follow on YouTube. I can't remember his name. Just and he's amazing at it. Like, is it scary? His name like Rainbolt or something? I don't know. He's a British guy.
43:28OK, Trevor Rainbolt is that probably the most famous geo guesser. Oh, yeah, I don't know. I don't know if I know that. He's insane. It's like it's amazing. I think I would. The thing I'm better at is the the whole game of like, guess what year this is with like a picture or whatever. I mean, I'd be pretty good at that. I think I am pretty good at that. I love that. Like examine the picture, what the nature of the coloring or the car in the background is cool. All right. Let's get into topics of discussion and then we can get into the game and to the I was gonna say into the game. I don't know what that means into the show itself.
44:01By the way, merch last I made it out store. All right. Serge wrote in, said, hey, boys, but especially Colin, a moment for our boy Nick Mangold, RIP and peace number 74. Yes. a great jet died last week nick mangled he was the longtime center of the new york jets great player he was 41 years old and he died of a rare kidney disease leaving behind i think three kids and his wife really awful situation and the jets won that day which i thought was actually fitting um and uh yeah really really sad situation i feel awful um he had come out a few weeks before he died and it said like i'm looking for a kidney transplant i've tried to kind of keep this to myself but i'm looking and it's just it was just too late um so yeah rip and piece number 74 like you said i bought a piece of merch uh that will that's like uh it says i think forever a jet with 74 on it um it's coming in the mail and the the proceeds go to some sort of american kidney foundation so go check that out if you want to see but yes sad news thank you for acknowledging Jason Vanover wrote in and said, how do you guys feel about this?
45:09So this is going to go live on Halloween, the show for patrons. So he says, how do you guys feel about the epidemic? That is people giving out non-traditional candy for Halloween, i.e. baked goods, trinkets, etc. This shit is really getting out of hand, and I truly hope the Moriarty, Furman, and Maldonado households subscribe to the big candies, Skittles, Snickers, Reese's. This year, my daughters received in no particular order, an apple wrapped in cellophane, a sticker book, plastic spider rings, pencils, a granola bar, a toothbrush and a bag of pretzels. How can it be? You can't do that. No.
45:46I have no affinity for candy or chocolate. I don't like it. Like I said, Halloween was meaningless to me when I was a kid. Basically, I would just sell or trade my candy. But it just seems like you got to play the game. There's a social stigma. Why don't you care about it? why don't you give a shit about the social stigma? So I think you got to kind of do the right thing. Now, yeah. Baked goods. I've never seen this before, but I believe that it's a thing. I would never accept a baked good from a random person. That's just asking for like a, a spontaneous DMT trip, you know, or something. I mean, obviously that person would get in trouble easily, but it's like, I'm not accepting your fucking cupcake.

46:30Like, oh, I'm not letting my kid eat your whatever. Like that's. And yeah, the little toys and trinkets, it's not ideal, but, you know, a baked good or did you ever get like a little little box of raisins? Yeah. Raisins. Dude, I used to get I remember there was like a couple of people over time when I was a little kid that would give you like a bag of fucking coins or something like a bunch of pennies and like a little Halloween bag. Like, what? That's insane. that is i didn't mind a bag of chips yeah chips i mean like the tiny ones yeah now michael's michael texted me and said chocolate prices are at an all-time high due to a bad harvest so maybe if some people are being priced out of these things and i understand that but i just feel like it's for the kids i am surprised though like when i go to target or something and you see the big bags of candy it's like they're that much money now it's like damn dude everything is so fucking expensive uh so i get it it's pricey out there but find a way in my opinion find a way i appreciate the effort of a baked good but i'm sorry i interrupted surely a baked good is more expensive like then you would there's a middle ground you don't want to be handing out fucking smarties no one wants that but you could get like i don't know he meant uh the jason mentioned skittles i'm those wouldn't be affected by a bad harvest you would imagine some gummy bears nerds clusters that's the candy of the decade if you ask me that's the world's greatest new invention is the gummy cluster or the nerds cluster it is good shit it is just a nerds rope ball but like because that's really what it is it's just like they cut they cut the nerds are open to like really small things but it's yeah man i don't know i generally speaking i feel like can't i've we've been over this on the show before and i've been over this on several episodes of like several different shows at this point but i i expect other houses to do like chocolate and all that shit but like if i'm doing candy it's it's usually like look it's gonna be it's gonna be skittles it's gonna be nerds it's gonna be like airheads like extremes or something but it's going to be it's going to be like that confectionery or like sour stuff or just like something something that isn't a fucking granola bar you know that's crazy okay if i got a granola bar for halloween i would probably i i might just die in that moment it's like it's over this is like an oatmeal packet an oatmeal oatmeal go home and make yourself a hot bowl bowl oatmeal what are those things the the the rice cakes let's see that like the dry oh yeah those are awful a packet of ramen yeah communion wafers like it's just all awesome it's just all sorts of like weird shit i appreciate the weird shit like every now and again but like i've been on runs in my in my life like halloween runs where i'm like it's like i remember specifically that i got three apples in a row on one like one three-door set and i was like this is that's fucking brutal what the that seems like a conspiracy yeah like how the fuck are you all giving out apples how do you have this many apples to give out first of all apples are huge they take up a lot of space in the fucking whatever your bag you're using just weird stuff but i just i don't know i typically just rely on on stuff that i see that i feel like a kid would be excited about and stuff that i would be excited about when i was a kid like sour shit i loved sour candy when i was a kid i still do i just don't eat anymore because it kills me but those trolley worms or whatever those are that's good shit um the occasional throwback like a ring pop would be interesting because I don't know how popular ring pops are now.
50:15But Jolly Ranchers used to be a lot bigger. I feel like I remember Jolly Ranchers being a big thing when I was trick or treating. And now, like, I feel like I haven't even seen those at like gas stations or like 7-Elevens or like Walgreens or like, I feel like I never see them. So I don't know what happened to them, but. Well, I have to be ready to go. I might. Micah picks out the candy. She criticized the candy I picked out one year. I don't remember. I don't know. Micah, what did I pick that you criticized? are you here oh she's not up here yeah it was like so it was just like some bag of miscellaneous you know like when you go into target or walmart or whatever there's like all the different bags and it's like this bag has like these four candies in it and this one has like this right yeah and i guess i just picked a like a subpar one but it seemed normal to me even like trail mix no no i got nothing like that it was like it was just the wrong combination of like she's like there are better combinations of you know brands than this that you could have gotten i'm like i don't know the bowl was milk duds yeah I don't know yeah but yeah so the my Boston's freak out when the door that is knocked or the bell is wrong so we just leave our bowl out and put a sign being like art this like this is not a good scene for our dog so just take your candy and enjoy and have a great night yeah but you got to participate nonetheless yeah it's crazy in my neighborhood so many fucking kids all right let's see where are we jp wrote in and said hey sacred crew chris's powers aren't limited to video game remakes anymore he now wills glass bottles of snapple back into existence simply by going to new york city chris please use your powers for good and bring back the factory jobs to the rust belt please return the ice to the polar caps and for the love of god please return el fudge cookies back to the original recipe for colin i still can't believe they did that to the fudge it's unbelievable yeah is chris a necromancer or does he just use his psychic powers to influence us subconsciously thanks for all you do i'll hang up and listen to a four-part lecture on the antichrist okay that's sacred symbols i guess um congratulations on the return of the gold or the gold the uh the glass bottle of snap yeah man dude it was it was really surreal it was really weird because it was the day apparently the day i got to new york city was the day that it was like the day that it happened and i was sitting in a cab going from jfk to grand central which is very expensive by the way uh forgot how expensive that is but i was sitting in the cab and then my headphones kind of like it was this really serendipitous time where like i usually have my headphones blasting music or whatever because i'm just like i don't know man i just got off of a plane the west coast to east coast ride is very long i don't really want to engage with anybody until i'm home and even when i'm home i usually like crash and then i wake up and then i socialize and do all that stuff but it was a it was a period where like the song ended and it was a trail into another song that was like really quiet and then i heard over the screen in the back of the taxi cab big news for snapple fans and i was like what the fuck is that what could that possibly what could that possibly that is such a weird thing to hear with no context given that's the first time i've ever heard that in my life and then they talked about like oh the glass battle glass battles are coming back but only in new york city i'm like what and it's like for a limited time only like i think until like december or something i was like you've got to be kidding me that is crazy and so naturally i immediately went on a fucking manhunt for these things and i found them event i found them eventually in like bryant because bryant park market so if you're in the city and you're curious on where to get them that's that's where i found them cool but i went in there i looted them i took like i think i took like seven or something and I put them in my bag and I was like this is amazing but what is crazy about it's like look I know I've talked about this for a long time and I know that we all generally agree it's like yeah plastic affects the taste of something like compared to glass like I think everybody knows this intrinsically from like having like Mexican coke in a glass bottle versus like you know coke in a can or like a plastic bottle but I have never the second I like hit the bottom of that that bottle you know I hit it shake it open the thing and took a sip I'm like I don't under fucking stand how something could taste this drastically different from one container to the other it really is bewildering because coke in a glass bottle still tastes like coke ultimately but there's something about that was like a sample goes from like a bottom tier like z tier kind of juice tea thing to like an s tier beverage just from the fucking container that it's in i've never seen or experienced that drastic of a shift just based on the fucking container it's crazy uh and it's still true so i don't know what the fuck they're doing i don't know why this is a limited time thing but i'm gonna go back i'll be i'll be back in new york city you could guarantee that we're gonna clean these fuckers out good shit yeah the glass is missed dustin go ahead it's important to point out with chris's willing ability because a lot of people write in positive about it but chris your your blessing comes with curses yeah you can will anything into existence but two things no splinter cell right and halo halo just in general halo in general anything that i wanted halo's guys like everybody gets everything else but i don't it is a curse it is a bummer like that was that was the biggest bummer point of like not being able to be on the show last week because i know that they had that big uh what is it um there's some splinter cell news about it not what is the director changed or something yeah and i was like oh that's a bummer but uh yeah of course like that doesn't even surprise me that's been a meme back like from the very beginning of the show we're like i remember calling being like surely it's happening right i'm like okay well wait i'll see i'll see i mean but the answer is no it's been seven or eight years just put it away at this point like stop you know i don't need an anime on netflix being like splinter cell and i'm like okay cool great so you care about it you you acknowledge that it's real you just don't want to do anything with it as far as i give a shit about that's cool very neat dumb mystical nonetheless mystical nonetheless finally dan culver writes in says what's up fellas this question is mainly directed to Colin, but I'm curious as to what Chris and Dustin think.
56:34I mean, I don't know what they're going to think very much of this, but we have to clarify something. I've been making my way through the beast that is Last Day Media's backlog, mainly listening to Constellation and Knockback. And one thing that has been bugging me so much that I increased my dollar tier on Patreon just to get the gang's take. So he's writing in here. I like you, Colin Hale from Long Island, specifically the sliver of Ron Conkimo included in the town of Brookhaven, right smack dab in the middle of the LIE and Smithhaven Mall, which is being completely renovated, by the way. My qualm is this.
56:59in nearly every single instance where you mention your upbringing, Colin, you say that you're from Brookhaven. While this is technically true, I've never once in my life said or thought that I was from Brookhaven over Ronkonkoma. And every family member and friend that I've asked on LA agrees with me. Have I had my proverbial magnifying glass zoomed in too much on Ronkonkoma my whole life? Should I be representing Brookhaven more in my travels when people ask me where I'm from on the island? Am I an idiot? Thank you boys for making my daily commute to and from the city on the Long Island Railroad a little more bearable.
57:29holding up my three here inglorious bastards i mean this is not gonna be good for the podcast listeners there are two different brookhavens dan and i'm only kidding you probably just would why would you know this well i feel like maybe you should know this if you're really you know you do live out there but you've just missed this brookhaven is a part of suffolk county it's a like a town shit like a township and there's like 500 000 people living in it but there is also a brookhaven hamlet it's just called brookhaven and that has about 3 000 people in it it's on the water in on the south shore and that's where i'm from so when i'm saying i'm from brookhaven i literally mean the town of brookhaven like my address was brookhaven new york 11719 that was my mailing address so two different things we're talking about here yeah um i understand the confusion because the town of Brookhaven is like the 500 ,000 people like, you know, they do, you know, all the things a local government would do.
58:32But there is the hamlet of Brookhaven. That's what Dagan and I are talking about. And there's only, again, a population of 3 ,000 people there. So just a little bit of a smaller enclave as it were. Yeah, I'm only realizing now that I've never heard. What is it? Ron Conkoma? Yeah, Ron Conkoma. Yeah. I've never heard that pronounced correctly in my life. I only knew one guy who would talk about like a friend. He had it and yeah my friend Ron Concoma yeah that's not it I've never heard of that in my life yeah I mean that makes way more sense I was like Ron Concoma is wild yeah Ron Concoma is a big place on Long Island but everything it's all Indian names you know so it gets a little confusing out there for people so I just wanted to verify that no one in your family knew that
59:25i was just watching glorious bastards the last night so good i love this scene where they're like like i don't remember exactly the context but it's like the one of the nazis they capture like he won't talk to them so they're gonna kill him he's like i'm so glad you said that or whatever or yeah yeah i'm so glad you and then the bear jew comes out yeah the bear jew yeah that was supposed to be adam sandler was it really that's yeah it was supposed to be adam sandler but like I think he was doing funny people at the time, so he couldn't do it. But I was like, that's a shame. That would have been awesome.
59:56Yeah. Adam Sandler, Quentin Tarantino movie would have been sick. Like as the bear Jew. That's awesome. I love that movie. Yeah, that's a great movie. All right. That's what we have for opening our opening statements. Yeah. And the trial that is sacred symbols of PlayStation podcast. Let's get into the news. And I'm very curious, guys, what you think of this first story, because this is very compelling. push square our friends over there sammy barker writes rumor ps portal and he writes it with a u of course because he's british ps portal could be about to get even more compelling he writes quote we know sony's handheld accessory ps portal has proven an enormous success with approximately five percent of the ps5's install base estimated to have purchased the remote play streaming device in the u.s it's awesome by the way isn't it that's such a great now that's surprising one in 20 pretty good yeah well it could be about to get even better assuming screenshots from Reddit are accurate.
1:00:52A couple of pictures doing the rounds show images of the games deliver at all costs and the Outer World 2's store pages, where it says, quote, pre-order to stream and play instantly at release on PS Portal or PS5 only with PS Plus Premium. They write, we haven't been able to replicate the text on the PS Store ourselves, but if it's accurate, it would indicate further improvements to Sony's cloud streaming solution. At the moment, you can stream select games directly to your PS5 with PS Plus Premium, as well as titles from the PS Plus game catalog to your PS Portal. The wording here suggests that Sony is plotting a future update where you'll be able to pre-order and purchase games from the PS Store and stream them directly to your PS Portal without ever needing to turn your PS5 on at all.
1:01:33Obviously, the quality of your streaming experience will vary. We've generally found Sony's solution to be surprisingly competent. I love the portal. I play with it every day. I have not streamed on it like from the cloud. dude this thing is so this the portal is so awesome and still i think totally underrated and it feels like they're they are slowly expanding its capabilities and um have more intent with it i think than meets the eye by spreading the field i mean so dustin let's go to you first are we are they ultimately going to turn the switch on a on the ability to basically stream whatever you want to this thing without um a need for the ps5 at all i would say not necessarily whatever you want because in order to stream the game it needs to be on their proprietary servers but i could see that with select big games um and who knows what the overall expanse of it could be, but it makes a lot of sense that, I mean, having a storefront right on your PlayStation portal.
1:02:47And I mean, at this point, you already don't need technically, you don't need to own a PlayStation five to use a portal. You're not going to get as much out of it. You're not going to get the stream your console to it, but you can, if you have a premium, you can stream as the article mentions that select list of games. but being able to have your individual library and the those streamable games is pretty compelling pretty interesting and um it's the only thing that's annoying to me is just that you need premium to do it it'd be cool if it was if you could do it with i don't know any playstation plus level if you purchase the game.
1:03:33But I understand that they need to, you know, it's not free to run these servers. Right. That's true. I also wonder if it's acting as a sort of governor to stop it being from you, like slowly test it on your most loyal customers. Right. And then maybe drop it. So it's just PlayStation Plus. At some point, like you'll need PS Plus to do this, I assume forever. But because like you said, it's and they don't really want you to play games like this because it's so expensive for them to do it. They want you to buy the game and run your own system, use your own electricity, your own data. They don't want...
1:04:09I think the difference between their approach and Xbox is a much more aggressive approach is that Sony, I think, realizes that this is an accompaniment to something, but not the solution because of how onerous it is on the source. It's crazy. By the way, I read a story last night saying that by 2030, 10 % of the power in the United States will be used by AI. Somewhat unrelated, but nonetheless, I just wanted to throw that out there. Chris. Enjoy your electric bill. Yeah, I know. I know I am. Yeah. Did yours go up? I mean, mine's been going up, but I don't know whether it's AI related or if it's just inflation or both.
1:04:48Do you, are you like, I try to be mindful of how much electricity I use. I used to bust my dad's balls about this when I was a kid. It's one of those things where it's like, damn, I'm, I would leave my light. I'm like, all right, I'm going out to my friends and I'd leave the light on in my room or something. Or I'd leave like my air conditioner on or something. Like my dad would be so fucking mad about it. I'd be like, what is the big deal? Like, relax, man. You know, it's not a big deal. And now like now I'm I'm older and I'm like, yeah, I like go around shutting lights off left and right and be like, why is this on?
1:05:20I try to turn off lights and stuff, but a light being on is like compared. I mean, one of my main expensive electric draws is I have a dehumidifier that runs in my basement 24 seven. Oh, yeah, that's and that made like an immediate noticeable difference on my power bill. And it's like, yeah, it does it. I'm sure turning off lights will help a little bit. But now that we have like super efficient LED lights, it's like, what is it? What is it really? If I leave every light in the house on for a month versus not at all. I mean, I'm sure it would be a little bit, but yeah. So I don't know. It's just annoying.
1:05:55There are data centers around us, but I don't know how much it's affecting our power in Virginia, though. Yeah, it's bad here. It's where it's real bad. They got to the I we talked about this on a recent show is like I know some of these companies, I think Meta was one of them was saying, like, we'll build our own power plants. And I think that that's what's going to be necessary to do this. It's like, but they need to be nuclear, I would assume. And that's yeah, good. I mean, yeah, it's free energy. can we just accept that if we're willing to take that little bit of a risk and it's not that risk anymore it's where everyone's like i've said this recently everyone's like look at what happened with chernobyl and stuff i'm like yeah the soviets couldn't build a power plant isn't that shocking it wasn't even that they couldn't build it they fucked they they fucked up yeah like you know what i mean it's like they they was working quite well until someone fucked up but the thing is it's like i had the the fear around nuclear shit makes me so mad because i feel like people just don't under i feel like people just don't understand we have aircraft carriers that are powered by this shit yeah and submarines and all the rest yeah yeah summary like it's like we why like it oh my god it's gonna set me off on a tangent my my stepdad was a uh an intelligence officer on a nuclear submarine for many years in his younger years and he would say that like they would have to swap sleeping in different parts of the ship to like equitably spread around the fault like the the nuclear energy like the equitable fallout is hysterical like like dudes that were like sleeping near I guess the reactor or like the warheads that they were carrying like you would sleep there for a while and then they would move you to like a different part of the ship or the different part of the submarine and all that that's awesome so I was like yeah that's funny explains a lot uh he's a great guy um so yeah I'm uh I agree the power thing is and I know what you mean about that one thing Dustin that can change the whole because like we don't because we have solar panels we don't I don't pay for power the whole year until I put on the pool the pool pump and then I start paying like a hundred dollars a month that's how much power it's using it goes from like nothing to more and then and then the HVAC unit it's like oh my god dude like it sucks but it should just be these utilities should just be treated as non-for-profit entities that i feel this way about the internet where it's like there are just things that are so important it's like you have to obviously invest money above and beyond the cost of doing business because you need to keep everything up and you need to do research and that's all important but like the idea that like there are investors making money off of this shit is like intolerable to me it's not a fucking tchotchke it's not a tv show or a podcast it's fucking electricity and the fact that we like don't build nuclear power plants all over the country is infuriating to me because it's fucking free like it just works you have to like you have to be able to dispose of it and we just bury it underground i'm sorry that's just the way it's to be like yeah better than all the other shit we're doing so yeah these so yeah here you're right doesn't here in virginia it's like getting crazy and people are getting upset like um because they were going to try to build another one in my area here in chesterfield and everyone's like absolutely not and it's great for the economy but it's just like the the bills are just getting nuts that's bad for the people around that's the thing that bothers me it's like it's it's putting the cost of it on everybody else who didn't consent to it it's just like well what the why why do why do we have to subsidize the power bill for like some random like that's crazy right right they have the money to i don't know no totally and i think water is another thing like they use a lot of water and um oh yeah and that's like another it's like yeah so gotta balance these things out but it's it's all everything's just so fucked up in that regard um i don't know how oh so i i give this is where i got onto it is i think i give sony credit for realizing that i don't i don't know that cloud gaming is really truly the future at least not yet probably get there inevitably but you got to get costs under control first because sony is eating shit probably if you buy outer worlds 2 and then stream it to your portal they i think just want to have that as an opportunity for those that are interested yeah chris you have anything you want to add um i don't know i mean like i i think i think streaming is cool i i mess around with it every now and again but i i almost never stream from the cloud i usually stream like either from my pc to my Steam Deck or for my PlayStation 5 to my Steam Deck.
1:10:28And even that I've done significantly less in recent months compared to like when I first started. I just prefer to run things natively. I'm never going to be somebody who prefers to play this way. And most of the games that I enjoy just don't lend themselves well to this. Like I could see somebody, if you're more of like a turn-based RPG person, like, yeah, there's probably like a, you know, it's probably a completely fine way to play. But everything I play is pretty action-oriented and very timing-oriented. it and it's just like it doesn't really it doesn't strike me as a particularly useful thing but it's cool that it's getting more features and and you know becoming more of a robust piece of kit i was actually a best buy last night and i saw one and i was like oh i want and i was like maybe do i want to do i want to get this thing it was sitting there and i was like not yet maybe at some point but it was alluring i like the way it looks and i don't think i've ever seen it in person And it's like a nice looking piece of piece of kit.
1:11:22Yeah, I mean, I love it. I do think, though, and I want to be very specific for people out there. I think it's got very specific use cases. Like, I truly do not believe that everyone needs one. It's not a traditional handheld. So like the idea that you have to just even as assuming this cloud thing expands, it'll be different. But right now, like you need to need you need to need it as a second screen for the PS5 you're already using. and if you have if you live alone or you aren't contest the tv's not contested in your living room or something like that it's like yeah probably not but i i play it most days i've so i've been playing plants versus zombies i'm on the rooftop levels now so like the i'm at the end of the game and i played the entire thing on portal and it it's awesome the ps5 right behind my monitor here is the one that i use to to connect to the portal because we're always using the ps5 downstairs for other things.
1:12:14So I highly recommend it. And a 5 % install base is pretty good. I imagine that that is part of the encouragement of Sony being like, maybe we do green light this Canis handheld. Maybe there's an appetite for this thing that's not really even a handheld. And it's like kind of a strapped together dual sense Android tablet. I mean, that is what it is. yeah uh it's like an xperia tablet as i understand i think i think even early versions of it read on some wi-fis as an xperia tablet and not a portal so um and they probably fixed that with firmware or whatever but so this is going to be a real bespoke sort of and there's the word bespoke a bespoke sort of uh handheld for the first we thought vita was the end but it's not it's so exciting so exciting you never know dustin you never know what you're gonna get you never know you never know what might happen god bless all right we've been talking a lot about this uh i mean you gotta give him credit this this website mp first we keep citing this this uh website mpfirst.com mp1st.com and it's always this writer that goes by a screen name Efrain or Efrain, E-F-R-A-I-N, or maybe that's a first name or something.
1:13:35I don't know. But they have some interesting information here, including visuals. We're not going to obviously have them in the show, but you can go check them out on their website. Report, they write, first look at canceled God of War multiplayer game unveiled. And it says the screenshots from the project. This is for Bluepoint's canceled project. There's a lot of it here. and I know Jaffe did a video about this. I have to watch it at some point. It'd be very interesting to see what he thinks of this. But it says here, quote, a report at the start of the year mentioned PlayStation was cutting two live service projects from its first party studios.
1:14:13These were an unannounced game from Ben Studio and they showed that the MP1 had information on that a few weeks ago, which is great. And a multiplayer God of War game that was being developed by Bluepoint Games. The cancellation caught many by surprise with details sparse beyond the fact that it was supposed to be a multiplayer game set in the God of War universe. Thankfully, we recently gained access to development screenshots that offer a detailed look at the game's planned setting. The screenshots from the project that were shared with us offer a good glance at an early stage of development, showing some assets and environments that were being worked on for the title.
1:14:41The first noticeable detail that we can get by looking at the gallery is that the game was clearly planned to return to a Greek setting. This is evidenced by the presence of Greek temples, classic artifacts such as pottery and other details we will discuss later. In addition to the temple exteriors, we can see other environments such as caverns and interiors that appear to have been designed to accommodate multiple players, such as an armory stocked with weapons and shields. Another interesting detail for those familiar with the lore is the apparent inclusion of the god Hades, at least in name.
1:15:06We were told that Hades would have been the owner of the armory as well as the yellow sulfur pools visible in the cavern. So if the game was meant to fit into the established canon at all, the involvement of a living Hades suggests a timeline prior to the events of God of War 3. That's if this game was meant to be canon in any way otherwise. It could have been anything goes. kind of thing, not connected to the main God of War continuity, but beyond name. Another interesting thing to note, they write, is the clear Greek-inspired architecture evident in the buildings. But some environments look like they were plucked from God of War 2018 in Ragnarok.
1:15:35These appear to be female statues holding a mask, which reminds us of the statues in the original God of War games, though we aren't sure whether a god is associated with wearing a mask. Then there's what appears to be statues of possibly soldiers holding a shield and spear, something you would associate with the Spartans. But their appearance also comes off as that of the Einharjir, the Norse warriors reside in Valhalla and God of War Ragnarok. You can see several weapons on display that have a hint of green, which reminds us of the weapons, the berserkers and other enemies used in 2018 and Ragnarok.
1:16:03So there's more images and more information here. I love their breakdown of it because I'm not a huge God of War fan. I'm not going to like that Hades is alive means it took place before God. I'm like, I don't know what the fuck. Yeah, I'm not that into God of War. So it's cool to read their little breakdown as opposed to them just kind of putting the screenshots out, which would have just been easy. So I give them credit for that. Give it a little bit of context. Keep people on the page. Chris. Yeah. Images, tantalizing images that clearly show a Greek God of War, although I do wonder if maybe it was going to be both in some weird way, if you know, some sort of weird multiplayer, you know, map kind of thing who knows um what are your thoughts here yeah i mean it's cool to see this much of a canceled game i feel like uh we i mean i could be wrong but i feel like this is a pretty rare thing at least in the playstation space i feel like we don't get this clear of a look like these these are really high quality screenshots you know uh and just like in engine footage you see like gray boxes of like untextured temples and stuff it's really cool you should definitely look at it if you're curious or interested but at the same time as i look at this i don't really get a sense for what they were doing because it really is just environments like i have no we still don't even really know the context of what this multiplayer god of war would have even been like as far as like gameplay like is it was it going to be like ascension or was it going to be you know what i mean like that's that's where most of my curiosity lies i could have probably assumed that there would have been you know greek play spaces or you know norse play spaces and so seeing this is is interesting but it's it's arguably like the least interesting thing about a canceled game in the sense of like i want to see like hud elements or like i want to see like what you know what the design of this thing was supposed to be like is this a was this a battle royale was it like was an extraction game was it a beat-em-up was it a standard like late 360 ps3 era like team deathmatch kind of tacked on type style or like ghost of tsushima legends like you know what i mean like was it co-op multiplayer kind of thing because i could see that being kind of cool like i don't know like that's where my biggest questions are about this thing not so much like oh what maps are we going to play as like oh are we going to be in the greek play space are we going to be in the norse play space it's like that's it's it's cool to see because we get a sense of like okay this is how it might have looked but i still have no idea what this game was supposed to be and that's that's kind of a bummer because i was i was looking at when i saw this article i was like oh shit i wonder what we're going to learn from this and it turns out kind of not that much so i don't know i'm surprised these i don't know where they don't say in the article where they got this from i assume that because it could come from someone's or someone's like unprotected photo bucket or something but it seems like maybe they were provided to them and i they didn't watermark them that could be a move like a legal move you would assume to not get in trouble since this is uh clearly sony doesn't want anyone to see this shit although like you said it doesn't really tell us anything about the game and and it's entirely possible we will never really learn very much about it but um dustin what are your thoughts here on what we see here of this canceled blueprint god of war game does it make you lament that we'll never see it i have to say i think i mean move on you know it's just i'm i don't need this i don't need this this is good i would imagine that we are still going to get some kind of god of war product in the future and this article mentions this and i think we even brought this up on on sacred at one point it was when we were talking about the uh the blue point job listings that they're looking for uh there's for a third person melee action game and of course that could mean a multitude of different things i mean their demon souls remake is a third person melee action game technically but with the upcoming god of war is it still at amazon right the god of war show sony while they haven't always been successful at it always tries to have a product available in, you know, to tie into whatever media product they're doing.
1:20:21They did it with the Uncharted Legacy of Thieves collection. They did it poorly with the Until Dawn remake. They tried to do it with Twisted Metal, but that ended up not happening. So they try to tie these things together. And the article points this out, and I think it's accurate, that I wonder if what, you know, they're able to transition to maybe a more traditional God of War remake with the fact they already have created some of these assets and have been working in this space. That would make the most sense to me is God of War. You have a show, you have all these people that have played the new God of War, but not the old God of War.
1:21:04Kind of just makes sense in so many different ways. It's not necessarily the most exciting thing for me but if if they are trying to keep that synergy up that's what i would expect to see next from bluepoint and the fact that we lost this multiplayer version uh i i don't really care uh i guess i i'd be willing to be convinced of it but to me that's just not what I'm I'm looking for from the God of War God God of War IP at all so I'm more interested if they were to transition to a God of War remake Monday busk wrote in and said hey boys I often think about the what could have been with the canceled the last of us multiplayer and the reasoning that it would be too expensive to maintain yet PlayStation was willing to spend money on Haven Firewalk Deviation Blue Points God of War game in the Ben's unnamed live service game not to mention the resources used to keep bungee functioning surely the cost of all these failed endeavors would have outweighed the maintenance of the last of us online still holding out hope that it could be brought back get consent from that chicken monday bus thank you for writing in we have to let it go that's what i wanted to say here that's why i brought it up well and isn't the fact too that naughty dog wanted to do it themselves right they didn't it's not about the the time the the money required to maintain it it's about naughty dog's time being able to maintain it make no mistake though that was a blunder in a major way and they kind of got away like i don't want to say sony kind of got away with one there where it's like you did what like you you what happened here i don't understand what happened here they just kind of released that statement we were critical of it but people kind of went on and one ear and out the other and before you knew it everyone kind of moved on and i'm like this is a little strange so i think you're right dustin but i also want to say like i i do think that that was like a major example of Sony mismanagement.
1:22:58They really fucked up there. Just not seeing it through and relying on what I would consider entities that would give you poor information at this point, like Bungie. And just, I'd love to really know much more about that and why they decided to eat shit on that game in particular. But I wanted to bring it up because I just feel like we need to let it go. Yeah. Got to let it go. On the same, you know, two sides of the same coin, let's say.
1:23:51All right. I thought this was interesting. Games Radar writes, Sony announces it won't be bidding to buy Warner Brothers because it's focused on growth markets like anime. So as we know, Sony was heavily invested in trying to at one point pursue the purchase of Paramount. Sony is really interested in the acquisition of IP. And I think they see it as the way forward for them. And so when that, that obviously that deal didn't happen, as we know. And so other similar deals have been popping up and people have been wondering, well, is Sony maybe going to be in play for this? And obviously, as we discussed, I think last week on the show, Warner Brothers has made it known that they're kind of ready to be purchased and maybe even cut up and purchased in different pieces.
1:24:38and so based on that i believe that hiroki tatoki was asked by the japanese newspaper nikai if they were going to be interested in bidding on warner brothers and he says quote we have no desire for big mergers and acquisition deals in the u.s film industry right now simply adding together the current movie studios doesn't strike me as leading to a big gain in profitability sony pictures entertainment isn't a big platform company for which scale is everything so it can create its own position even without becoming one of the top players The global market for anime is just dawning right now and will continue to grow by double digits for a while.
1:25:12We are focused on growth markets. It's important to have cooperative relationships that foster original works. That's so interesting because Warner Brothers, as they write here, is responsible for some of the biggest franchises in Hollywood, including the DCU, Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings. And the company owns HBO, CNN, DC Studios, TNT Sports, Cartoon Network and more. So that would certainly give Sony access to a ton of stuff. But I actually think they're kind of right here. I don't feel like Warner Brothers is really. Prime for the picking, it's not as tantalizing as a paramount. I wonder, Chris, where are you on this?
1:25:47Sony saying no to acquiring any of this Warner Brothers. I mean, we've been talking for years now about Warner Brothers getting acquired by someone. So it's getting a little long in the tooth, I think, too. A little bit. Yeah, I just yeah, I think ultimately they're right. I don't think anything that I don't see. i don't even know if there's necessarily a way that i'm going to be able to be good at articulating this but like there's something about warner brothers and sony that doesn't feel like it fits all that well um like i don't get a sense of any real synergy there they're just they don't seem to really have any any business being with each other in the context of an entire acquisition like i just don't i don't see it and again like they seem to they seem to be interested in very very different markets i think uh you know the anime thing is obviously correct like i feel like i've noticed that just even in the last couple years like it is exploding and so that's that makes sense that they would be more focused on that especially with some of the entities that they own and that they've invested in so this is not super surprising it is crazy that i'll say this it's crazy that they've been openly uh you know just waiting to be acquired for as long as i feel like they have been because it feels like it's been a it feels like if there would have been takers by now like there would have been like it's strange yeah it's been years i mean it's been literally years i mean now they're literally as opposed to it being back channeled and reported that they're literally just saying it now like please right put us out of our fucking misery already it does seem like an unwieldy because i look at the group and i'm like yeah having dcu obviously would be huge you know access to the harry potter ip and lord of the rings would be huge but you don't i don't think you want to be bloated with some of this other stuff and so picking and choosing even something like cartoon network would be cool but is there a lot and that would actually maybe even fit cartoon network would be interesting maybe because of like you put in the crunchy roll um or something i don't know oh that would be interesting like that would be like a total reversal because like toonami was like the the anime block on cartoon network and so that now would be like cartoon network is like the it was like it'd be like their equivalent yeah like the western yeah the western block of like uh crunch real that would be interesting um dustin what are your thoughts here on this situation yeah well i i mean specifically on the anime stuff clearly he's right about the the growth aspect of anime not only in the u.s but global like right now that new the new demon slayer movie that came out a few months ago was the uh biggest anime opening of all time like bigger than pokemon movies which is kind of crazy thinking about how crazy everyone was for pokemon in the 90s including myself um totally blew that out of the water and of course that's a crunchy role thing so they were on that and then this past weekend with the chainsaw man movie which was the biggest movie of the weekend beating out that bruce springsteen movie and other stuff by a lot and it's already number 58 on the year's top movies uh but and that's on one weekend alone so clearly he's right about the growth potential in anime and i can see where they're looking at some of the ip for warner brothers and it's like yeah there's there's some big stuff there particularly thinking about harry potter hbo stuff hogwarts legacy but none of that is necessarily guaranteed forever um and i think he they wrote up in this where was i already clicked away from it the uh in the article that you put they mentioned a quote from hiroki tatoki last year that said whether it's for games films or anime we don't have that much ip that we foster we don't have that much ip that we fostered from the beginning we're lacking the early phase of ip and that's an issue for us and this comes back to the what's the with the whatever growth the natural growth organic organic growth uh that sony that you've uh accurately put on them many times is that they i think are more interested in in fostering an entire new vertical particularly with anime yeah i'll be interested to see like sony seems to have an appetite for some level of expansion i would love to know what their their strategy is though and i think that the money they spent on bungie has kind of hobbled them a little bit just because i don't think well i don't think i know that they're not as cash rich as a lot of other companies so they need to be more deliberate and that would obviously be at just a small sliver of what warner would cost but it certainly is gonna not help to not have that money the access to that money anymore um but yeah i think i really have i'm an outsider to the anime world generally speaking but i i've been really fascinated by sony's complete embrace of it and they just see they i think they just see it as a massive growth opportunity and yeah that that chainsaw man movie isn't that a sony movie yeah well i mean it has the crunchy roll branding when you yeah when it starts so yes um so that's interesting they have like one of the biggest films out right now in the in the world of anime and I love I know it's a little bit geeky but it's like it's cool that the Japanese company is leaning into some their own cultural relevance in their own home country as opposed to also trying to spread the field which they are of course but I like that they seem to be married together and I think that that's basically what Chris is saying with Warner where it's like this is a this this brand doesn't really make any sense with you guys I know it's interesting Microsoft was interested I mean we know that from the FTC files that they were very interested in Warner but and you would get Mortal Kombat and a few other things that are important that Mortal Kombat collection comes out today I think yeah I'm like really excited about digital eclipse dude yeah they're awesome Atari I mean you want to talk about acquisitions Atari is the company that's been made quietly making awesome acquisitions between digital eclipse and night dive it's like damn dude what a fucking beast of a a little uh retro house you got going on there now with these guys that can do these amazing collections forever.
1:32:01I mean, there's going to be the beauty of that is like there's going to be just there's probably people falling all over themselves to try to get nightdive to remake their game. Yeah, good problem to have. Okay, the next story. I'm very interested in what you guys think of this because I feel like they really dodged a bullet here. Pardon the pun. The story's been going around over the last week that and as I'll explain, this is this was kind of reported a long time ago, but Konami the creators of the matrix which are like what the wachowskis brothers yeah well well they're just the wachowskis now right because they're trans or they're both trans correct okay um so they were big kojima fans or are big kojima fans which is not a huge surprise and so there's a lot to explain here the website time extension wrote about this and they note that back in december of 1999 next gen magazine which is a magazine i actually got for a while back in the day reported that konami and kojima were in discussions so this was after the release of the original metagraph solid um that they were approached by the wachowskis to make a game for the matrix and the matrix obviously had come out that earlier that year to acclaim um just a little bit earlier that year i think it was the fall of 99 because i think i was in 10th grade because when i saw the matrix in the theater i came home and went and searched and downloaded the the matrix you know screen like the the green text and i had that on my my screen i thought it was so fucking cool um so this was reported back in the day that the wachowskis were interested in contracting with konami and kojima and talking to them about a game and it kind of never went anywhere and as we all know and as time extension points out shiny entertainment ultimately ended up making two matrix games in lieu of that enter the matrix and the path of neo and i was actually my first internship at ign was when enter the matrix came out and i have a really vivid memories of that game for for that reason it that game everyone looks back on it as a terrible game but i only played it when i was a kid so my memory is that game fucking rules and i can never touch it because i'd rather just not know yeah yeah what i remember about it is that it was just way really incomplete like a game that they just kind of pushed out i remember being empty yeah i remember it being i was i was in the same boat as dustin where i like i remember liking it for whatever reason and i kind of liked that it was empty it was like there was like something eerie and like surreal about it but i remember it being very fucking green like i remember that game having like the greenest tint that was like the the was it the piss filter but instead it was like the fucking green filter for the matrix all right so sorry i'm just trying to read here okay so i found where i was supposed to be so time extension the website so the next part of the story all right so we have that established the wachowskis are kojima fans there was discussions like some reporting of that from next gen magazine back in the late 90s after metal gear solid came out that they were interested in a matrix game and then we never heard anything else about it time extension spoke to a guy named christopher bergstresser who was the former vice president of licensing at konami digital entertainment and time extension was talking to him about something totally separate so it had nothing to do like this is a little bit of a clip out from that conversation that i think was more about what they're saying was about something with having to do with sega um but obviously because he was the vp of licensing and matrix was an external property this would have been right at the nexus of what he would have been dealing with at the time.
1:35:42And it says, quote, in the conversation, he, quote, provided an explanation for why these conversations never resulted in an agreement being struck, stating that the Konami higher ups, higher up, Kasumi Katue, had shut down these discussions pretty much as soon as they'd begun, as he wanted Kojima to focus on Metal Gear Solid. And so Bergstresser said to time extension, quote, the Wachowskis were big fans of Kojima. So Kozumi Kotue, Kojima Aki Saito, who is still working with Kojima, they say, and I were at the Konami HQ and we got a call from the Wachowskis who wanted to come in and meet with Kojima.
1:36:15So they did. The two of them came in with their visual effects guy and effectively said to Kojima, we really want you to do a Matrix game. Can you do that? Aki translated this into Japanese for Mr. Kotue and Kotue just looked at them and told them plainly, no, we did still get to enjoy the Matrix Japanese premiere and after party, though. And so that's the second part of the story. The third part of the story is Kojima reading this and responding to it. He says on Twitter, quote, I was surprised to see on social media that the Wachowski sisters, OK, there we go, had offered me a Matrix game project back in 1999.
1:36:54In all these 26 years, no one ever told me such a conversation had taken place. At the time, we were mutual fans and exchanged emails. The Matrix hadn't been released in Japan yet, but I had already seen it in theaters in the US and at a preview screening. When the Wachowskis came to Japan for promotion, I believe I met them three times. In the morning, we had a Famitsu interview in Shinjuku. That time, Jeff Darrow joined us for the talk session. In the afternoon, they were invited to the headquarters of Konami's CS division. Back then, I was vice president of KCE Japan, a wholly owned subsidiary.
1:37:25When I arrived at the headquarters, their meeting with Mr. Katue, the head of the CS division, had just ended. I joined them afterwards, and we chatted for about an hour with an interpreter. Aki wasn't even there. I think John Gaeta, the visual effects supervisor, was also present. That evening, I attended the premiere screening and party where I also met Joel Silver. Even then, there was no mention of an offer. At that time, I was already extremely busy with Metal Gear Solid 2 and probably couldn't have accepted the offer right away. but if someone had told me maybe there could have been a way to make it work and quote very interesting very very interesting i love this kind of shit so by the way the the big thing i pulled out of this is that even in the 90s kojima didn't need a translator to speak in english it's very interesting i i this goes back to what i've been saying is that i think a lot of i know this actually for a fact i don't know i don't know it's all japanese people obviously but many japanese people are embarrassed by their english it's not that they don't speak it or don't or if they're an English speaker, they can't understand or don't speak at that.
1:38:20It's that they they still choose to speak through a translator. And I've said before that when I would interview people like Keiji and Afune, he wouldn't need a translator to understand you. He just wouldn't speak back to you. It's it's very interesting. Like you would speak English to him and then he would talk to his person. In Japanese. So I always found that pretty interesting. Dustin, I got to know what you think here, because I wouldn't want it. Wouldn't have wanted this. this is this is an inflection point that kojima should be very glad uh didn't happen because i think it would have made him a more minor figure potentially than he i mean he was already a huge figure at that time but think about what metal gear solid became and then what death stranding became what he's doing now i think this would have totally or could have thrown that off yeah i i think you're absolutely right about that i'm kind of of two minds though i want both realities to exist where I want Kojima working on his own original IP or at the very least, like in the case of Silent Hills or PT, where he is loosely working within the framework of another IP, but making it his own.
1:39:28And I guess that's the ideal version of thinking about like what a Matrix Kojima game could be, how weird and what he could do in that world. that sounds pretty interesting and pretty cool and i'm sure whatever he would have made would have been awesome but you're absolutely right there would have been consequences to that where maybe he's working on a matrix game and it's really successful uh metal gear solid 3 i mean i'm sure it would have existed at some point but it would have been much later and it maybe would have been a completely different game i guess i don't know it's a butterfly i think maybe maybe a Metal Gear Solid 3 made it a different time would have been an even better game.
1:40:11Maybe it would have been way worse. Maybe it would have been too much time and no one would have cared anymore. But I'm happy with the timeline, at least in terms of Kojima that we have now. What I wonder at some point, this is somewhat unrelated, but when are we going to get the tell all about Konami, the war between Konami and Kojima? Probably not for a while. and I really respect that he's kind of like dude I'm doing my own thing now I don't have time to be dealing with old dramas at least I assume that he's just kind of single-minded focused on moving forward but man I would love to know from him about that experience it's fair to say like I agree that that is that is probably what happened but I think it's fair to say that he could be under a gag based on like they could have paid him out and been like it's time for you to you know like when he wanted out and everything was kind of going down it's like all right like well let's figure out a way for this not to get any messier but i think that's probably not true and i think that that's it's probably just him not wanting to look at what in a fune did to himself by you know unfortunately by getting too into the weeds in a in a different sort of gaming culture in japan that is i don't want to be too reductive but much more honor based and um restrictive maybe you don't want to burn those kinds of bridges but i would i agree with you man it would be awesome to know more and i'm surprised that we just haven't gotten anything but again it's what i've lamented for many years these are probably stories that are told amongst people in the japanese games industry very interesting very similar to the stories that are told amongst the english-speaking games industry that doesn't that don't probably cross over into the japanese language necessarily so that's the biggest disappointment is that there are people getting drunk in Tokyo telling stories and talking about this stuff and we'll never be privy to them Chris would you have wanted a Kojima Matrix game uh sure but not at the expensive Metal Gear Solid 3 I think that's kind of the thing that's um I'm sorry Metal Gear Solid 2 would have been at that time well right but like he was he was already working on that oh so you say I see so bad right right okay I got you sure yeah so I would presume that like if he would have finished Metal Gear Solid 3 would have been pushed or just never happened at all like I think that's kind of the issue is that like that would have been interesting and I actually kind of wish that we got more like I understand that Death Stranding and and Metal Gear to some extent is like science fiction but like for him to be more into like hard sci-fi and like figuring like making a game in that space like I think that would be really cool and so I would be very curious to see that but i i think the cost would be too great because i think metal gear solid five is fantastic i think metal gear solid three is it's really fucking good and really unique and really weird and i haven't i i i still have yet to revise my thoughts on four i haven't played four in fucking forever so but still like i just think that the current timeline that we got with you know metal gear and kojima i think was probably i would imagine probably preferable though I am curious about like what a matrix like I'm so endlessly curious about what a matrix game developed by Kojima would look like and I bet it would be fucking cool I'm um yeah I well he all right so two things I want to say for my own notes here and reading them is like the first thing is I'm glad he didn't make this game I would have never really wanted to see this from him because I just think by the time in my opinion by the time the game had come out Matrix had already really run its course like I don't really know what the revisionism is around the Matrix at this point the Matrix trilogy specifically I know there's a fourth one as well I've never even seen it but the original Matrix is a masterpiece and yeah blew it blew my mind when I saw it I loved I absolutely fucking loved it and it's it's a very memorable movie to see in a theater like I remember seeing in a theater who I saw with and like i said i was in 10th grade i remember um but the second and third movies i found to be so unnecessary and so disappointing even at the time that i was like what do we like you know you're stretching this thing out into this thing that doesn't really need to be you've kind of undercut the sanctity of the original one in some way by overexposing the story and kojima's matrix game would have fallen onto the market in that period of time and it would have kind of been a bummer for him to have been wrapped up in that that era of the matrix he wasn't there at the in other words he wasn't there at the beginning he couldn't have been wouldn't have been and that's when it was really truly special so it would and then yeah like you said it would have it would have been a total butterfly effect where we've got would have gotten probably a totally different run I mean, maybe we still would have gotten ultimately the same games later, but I doubt it.
1:45:11I mean, it's something would have had to have given. And maybe it would have been Zoning the Enders or something. I mean, he was doing other stuff at that time that was not Metal Gear. But it's not a surprise to hear them say, like, we want him to focus on Metal Gear because that was the problem. Every Metal Gear game starting with Metal Gear Solid 2 was supposed to be his last Metal Gear game. And I think they just kept putting him in a corner over and over and over again with the series. Because people think about three, four and five, but there's more than that. There's Peace Walker and all the spinoffs.
1:45:39That he also had to deal with. So did he do Peace Walker or which which or acid is the one he didn't do right or something. There's also Portable Ops. Yeah, he definitely did Peace Walker because he was. Yeah, because they consider that like a mainline Metal Gear game. Yeah, I'm just I couldn't remember like which one was. Yeah, he probably didn't do acid and Portable Ops and all the other stuff that they that they spun off but and he would do weird it's funny to even think about some of the games he produced during this time or helped design it's like the matrix game was pitched or the matrix game could have been a thing so this would have been in the in the late 90s 99 into 2000 but then he would go on to do yeah zone of the enders one and two that game bach tai that we bring up would have been in there like maybe some of those games would have gone away and he could have done it but i think this is kind of a blessing i really do yeah it would have been super interesting but I don't I don't know the matrix is an interesting vignette as it were I don't want to know too much about it and I don't want to be in the more you learn about the world the less mysterious it becomes and it becomes less interesting so some pretty banger music in those last two movies though I will say that yeah I think that's most things by the way I think I think a lot of things undercut themselves by over explaining themselves and having like having an answer it's like midichlorians again you know right right it's like that's why the force works it's like it's it's fine to not know how it works i'll be kind of cool actually i'll never get over the midichlorian thing never in a million years i it's insane i have thoughts but well do we want to get into midichlorians who gives a shit i need someone to explain to me midichlorians aren't the force But are they just a means to measure someone's force power?
1:47:31Because if they are a way to track someone's force ability, then the sanctity of the force remains. And maybe it just wasn't explained very well. Wikipedia says midichlorians were microscopic intelligent life forms that originated from the foundation of life in the center of the galaxy and ultimately resided within the cells of all living organisms. thereby forming a symbiotic relationship with their hosts. The Force spoke through the midichlorians, allowing certain beings to use the Force if they were sensitive enough to its powers. In order to gauge an individual's potential in the Force, blood tests were used to estimate the number of midichlorians within the subject cells known as M-Count.
1:48:09Anakin Skywalker, the chosen one, possessed the highest known count in galactic history, over 20 ,000 midichlorians, surpassing the potential of Grandmaster Yoda and all Jedi. So it's a little bit of both. yeah i just think it's too over i don't even if it's fine i think it's it's just over explaining like i don't we don't need this level of detail i think it undercuts how interesting it could be like the point is like you imagine i think the point is that your imagination is supposed to kind of run with it it's like why is why can he do all this the minichlorians are the the key to all this they're the key to all this the little microscopic little boys and everybody's blood cells are the key to all this they speak through the universe speaks through the little boys in your bloodstream i don't give a fuck i don't know it's so dumb it was so much cooler when it was like a mysterious religious thing in my opinion but right or just like there's no there's no answer like nobody's nobody's figured out no amount of science is able to figure it out yeah that's good yeah i think it's cool and interesting and weird agree now it's like now i just think about them as like oh it's tardigrades you know oh it's the fucking the little microscopic motherfuckers floating on asteroids that look like that look like the caterpillar from bugs life cool lame shout out to wookieepedia by the way yeah awesome name this is it is a great name this is an extensive document that i'm looking at right now about the mid-glorean it's this is quite the document all right next up terrorist jerry wrote into us and said hey cdc did you guys catch the trailer for lulon the cursed sands i haven't gotten around to any of the china hero project games yet but i personally find this one to be the most appealing of the bunch maybe you guys could do a spoiler cast with jaffy when it comes out must be pretty cool for him to see a game take such direct inspiration from his own creation so over on the playstation blog the official messaging arm of sony lulon the cursed sand is a new china hero game and it is coming to playstation 5 comes from a developer called chili room intercapped by the way no space Wang Wenwei is the game's director and he writes, quote, Lulan, the cursed sand is an action RPG set along the ancient Silk Road in the western regions of China.
1:50:21You play as the cursed sand, a skeletal warrior wielding the power of sand and sets out to explore the lost kingdom of Lulan, battle mighty foes and search for his beloved princess. Inspired by the archaeological discovery of the Xiaoyi princess, the story follows the cursed sand, a royal guard resurrected after death as he embarks on a tragic journey to find the lost princess of lulan for the protagonist we drew inspiration from the lulan mummies and the iconic desert sand of the western regions creating a dual form warrior in sand form golden sand wraps around his body a balance fighter who wields the power of sand when he unleashes the sand and forges a massive sand blade he shifts in a bone form a powerful stance built for one versus many combat um there's a trailer you can go check it out it is age gated not a big deal though and yes This does look like a certain something, doesn't it, Dustin?
1:51:12Hmm. Diablo. Yeah. Yeah, I watched the trailer. I think this looks pretty cool. And I did. I love these PlayStation blog posts where they're not afraid to show their their gamer terms. He shifts into bone form. Bone form. I'm more of a bone form man than saying proper noun. Yeah. But yeah, I think this is as far as the China Hero Project. There's been some games that look promising. Some games look not so good. I think this is one of the most promising trailers we've seen out of the project. And even later in the blog post, it says many of us has worked on action titles at studios in the US and Japan, including Santa Monica Studios from Software and Platinum Games.
1:52:01So some pretty nice credentials there from the team. and i uh yeah i'm looking forward to seeing more of it what do you think chris yeah i think it looks cool i'm a sucker for uh skeleton characters i don't know there's something about like i like i like a medieval dad daniel fortesky of course yeah there's something there's something about a skeleton character that's like really cool like he's wearing pants too but he's like got ribs it's weird it's i don't know it's i i it's i find those designs really endearing and it's cool yeah i mean it looks a little bit of god of war there is a there there is honestly a little bit of diablo there but i don't know of the things that i've seen come out of these like hero projects this is the most intriguing to me i'm i'm into the look of it um i like the idea of sand as like a like a like i've always like even as like a kid i always i was really into like the idea of like sandman from like spider-man like this the idea to like wield that shit or like even um was it gara and early naruto versus like i was so fascinated by the idea of like living sand it's fucking cool um so shut up
1:53:10interesting reference there look i'm just like it's the only other sand whoa i'm gonna i'm gonna cut myself off there yeah okay sand person no it looks cool man um i'm into it when's this uh is there a date for this or i don't think there is uh no it's just kind of general yeah i think they just announced it maybe a couple years 16 members yeah 16 person team it'll take some time yeah a year and a half two years probably i highly recommend people go look at this trailer just because it um it is like i first of all the trailer itself has more than 500 000 views which i think is a lot of views for a china hero project game in two days and with 27 000 thumbs up so pretty nice for them on their youtube channel a lot of stuff kind of comes and goes on the playstation youtube channel to be honest they publish a lot of videos there.
1:53:58So that's pretty good. So it's circulating somewhere. It's getting picked up somewhere. And it does look like a zoomed out God of War. Yeah. I mean, that is what it is. It's a zoomed out God of War, for sure. No doubt about it. I'm really looking forward to this. And I agree with you, Dustin. I think China Hero has obviously been hit or miss. We haven't even played a lot of the games. A lot of the games are still not even out. So we're talking about there's got to be. 25 of these things at this point, and most of them are not out yet. But this one does look really, really promising. We thought that about Lost Soul Aside, too.
1:54:33It seems like no one really likes that game, though. I haven't played it, so I don't want to speak too much about it. But that was supposed to be like the big China Hero Project game. So maybe this will be. The actual big China Hero Project game, although Sony seem to believe in Lost Soul Aside. It's not like they just pooped it out. They actually published it. yeah so that's a little weird isn't it but whatever happened to uh what the fuck is that one game that never came out that it's not a china hero game but it's just a or maybe it is a china hero game i don't know though it's that one like downloadable game that was teased for many years and it was at the ps5 reveal event oh is it the one not not the one you played no let's see games at the PS5 reveal event god I love this character design yeah i don't yeah so the games are shown it was at the showcase yeah maybe it wasn't there because little devil inside yes no yes little devil inside that's it that's exactly it all right that game still hasn't come out right yeah i don't think so either it's not out or came out a while ago no one cared um this is the only two options really who was making that was that a new developer yeah neo stream interactive is the studio what is going on with this game yeah i liked the way it looked but yeah 10 minutes 10 months ago i saw i see a reddit post whatever happened to little devil inside this is on the wikipedia page you guys will find this interesting little devil inside was originally conceived by its creative director cody lee and was developed as the first game by souls neostream interactive um so they they launched a kickstarter for it in april 2015 we're promising a release window at that point of fall 2016 backed by 5 000 people they raised$306 ,515 in Australian.
1:56:35In December 2017 the developers released a new trailer for the game and began communicating a planned release date of late 2018 with PC planned as its first release platform. During the... So they... It was at the PlayStation reveal event in June 2020. The CS trade show January 2021 a presentation made by Sony included a footnote that Little Devil Inside was planned for July 2021. and then it was shown again at a state of play with a 2022 release date then there was an instagram post from playstation that showed winter 2022
1:57:14and that was basically in february 2024 the development team published an update post through kickstarter they apologized to the community for being unable to deliver the game according to schedule and the team had been downsized they released a new gameplay trailer and reveal the development had switched to unreal engine 5 so i mean that's
1:57:33so what the fuck you know it's like that game remember that game at the xbox event that the the last night or something like that well i don't know is that tim sore tim sore it right yeah and i think i follow him on twitter i think he still is working yeah he is i think i i um like that's another game that's like where is this thing what's the name of it what was the last night the last night was that what it was yeah I believe oh yeah that's the the yeah the neon kind of side scroller thing yeah it was like 2D HD before 2D HD was a thing right I hear it has a Wikipedia page as well it was first shown in 2014 for Xbox one yeah and then she kind of disappeared this is a bummer this is the this is i was looking really forward to this one yeah it looks cool again it's just like what happened i always love that kind of shit it's like what because it's not about games getting canceled or not working out it's i love games that are announced and are showcased right it's like certainly there was a product here why did you bail out of it like if for instance if you're showing little or the nightmare what was that little what the fuck were we just a little devil inside little devil inside like little nightmare inside it's not right yeah it's like my mom talking um i feel like you must have had some confidence to have it at the playstation 5 reveal weren't there a million games clamoring for that position it's that's the kind of stuff where i'm so interested in that kind of thing it's like damn dude would love to be a fly on the wall in that with those conversations anyway Lulan the cursed sands or cursed sands I don't know why I keep saying cursed fucking retard
1:59:38all right Dustin I was especially curious to see what you thought of this although you actually both of you will have interesting stuff to say about this so Dragon Quest 1 and 2 HD 2D remake is imminent. I think it's out today from when we're recording. And this is the resolution of the Erdrich trilogy. Of course, they released Dragon Quest 3 already last year, HD 2D. We're going to get Dragon Quest 7 later on. So pretty exciting times in the world of Dragon Quest. But people have been talking about this, and I wonder if this would be actionable and if anyone else does this. so they have conditions of use for their games for the images and videos on their website this is at dragonquest.jp but you can read the english version of it it says quote no spoilers please in order not to spoil other players enjoyment you must mark all content that includes details of major plot developments in a clear spoiler warning please refrain from live streaming or posting video or images of gameplay after the second credit sequence in dragon quest 2 until november 29 2025.
2:00:45Do you have you ever heard of something like that, Dustin? So this well, before we get into it any further, we have a letter and I think this will allow us to kind of frame this better. I'm sorry. Yoshua wrote in and said, hey, sacred man, I have a question that I've been meaning to ask for some time, and I'm hoping you can provide some valuable insight. Why is it OK or in this case legal to post entire playthroughs of video games on YouTube? Anybody can just post an entire game that day the day it's released. You can't do this with new movie releases or new TV show episodes. So why are video games the exception?
2:01:14Do you think it boosts or hurts sales? I'm a teacher and my students will often say that they'll just watch a Let's Play instead of buying a$70 game. This happened recently after Ghost of Yote's release. Would love to hear your insights. Thanks. The reality is, is that in this far, I would have to get Hogue on the show to really understand this more, but it's not legal. It's that all of the companies just don't do anything about it. And so Dustin, I frame it through that lens to say like, is this now, are the developers and the publisher is going to start taking more action on post-release footage that would be basically unheard of in the history of games.
2:01:46But that would technically be within the realm of their rights on their own properties. Right. Yeah, it's within their right. But I don't know, it's hard to determine. It probably depends on the game, whether or not it hurts them or helps them. He mentions his students that talk about watching a Let's Play instead of buying a game. in a lot of cases i think the people that watch a let's play of a game never had intention of buying it to begin with so there is that element i have heard of this though there's someone in my family that when i was talking to them about a game they're like oh i haven't played that but i watched a let's play of it i still want to play it i was like oh well it's interesting i would never ever want to experience a game that way but to each of their own i guess there are games in a case where i've watched like scenes from games that were spoilers i never had any intention of playing it so i guess that's part of it what i think is weird about this dragon quest situation is that dragon quest 2 has existed since before i was born night i what 1990 is what uh september 1990 in japan it would be 87 but yeah in the west it would be 90 yeah yeah so protecting the sanctity of the spoilers of the game that originally released in 1990 does not make any sense to me and i get it that there's so many people that have never played a dragon quest game before this is going to be their first experience i think it makes sense that they are trying to do this but it's a little a little too late if you're playing dragon quest for the story you might be a little touched in the head i'm to be honest with you and i say that as a dragon quest fan it's like it's not what yeah what dragon quest is and i think too that i'm not necessarily against this because i i think a lot of us have had the experience where you're playing a game maybe before you bought it you watched a review or maybe you got stuck and then you watched a video and then youtube starts feeding you videos and some moron posts like the ending is crazy with like the most the biggest spoiler you've ever seen in a thumbnail and the thought of cracking down on that is awesome to me because no one should especially on a new game like that the people are very quick to upload videos and it made me think of this is somewhat of an aside but i remember one of the biggest things that hurt the order the order 1886 was right before the game came out someone had a leaked copy upload the entire game and the runtime was what six hours yeah and that was so detrimental to that game that the runtime leaked early which honestly i think was kind of fair that people knew what they were getting into as far as runtime of that game definitely but um but yeah the crackdown on this it seems like it's more japanese companies that do this more than american companies i'm to think what other maybe i'm thinking kingdom hearts 3 where when you got into the end of the game you would get that pop-up that was like this is a blocked scene uh where you can't capture directly on the playstation so they can do that like a hard cutoff for capture on playstation obviously everyone not everyone but many people have elgados or whatever to capture and stuff like that so i i don't know it's just weird to try to block it for this game in particular i don't know if anyone cares that much yeah the the let's play scene is not a familiar scene to me i think about my friend michael malice who's the the famous political commentator who like loves let's plays and like basically absorbs all of his video games or let's plays and often asks for suggestions for let's plays so i'm not saying it's like an invalid thing it's just it's the same reason why I'm comfortable watching red letter media reviews of movies I've never seen because I'm like I'm never gonna see this movie I don't give a shit you know it's like that's kind of how I like I'm like movies are not really important to me uh right so it's really about your own values yeah Chris I'm curious what you as a YouTuber what you think of this I mean it's true that everyone's kind of been getting away with it because no one is chosen to do anything about it yeah I mean I think the backlash I think it just generally looks bad if you're trying to hide your game over here like it looks worse over here and it has more of a it has more of a a lasting impact on the reputation of your game if you're if you're actively like hiding or you know i remember back in the day nintendo would always kind of um i think still to this day in some ways or like i'm not super sure i haven't kept up with like nintendo all that much at all in the last couple years but i remember nintendo being like a prime offender of just like no you can't do that and they would strike a lot of gameplay.
2:06:32They were trying to get partial monetization on videos that had Nintendo gameplay. Right. And you had to be part of their program. Yeah, fuck you. We're just not doing Nintendo anymore. Right. When I recently have done videos on Nintendo, the only thing they struck me for is when on my stream, it was the Mario Galaxy movie trailer. Oh, yeah. And I think it was Universal that was like, no. no no no they've got a lot better movie trailers are notorious for that um but yeah i don't know i i think um yeah it's within their right to do it i think generally people avoid doing it because they know that it'll cause like they know that it'll be just a it's like a rake that you you don't really you don't have to step on like you don't have to step on there you have to be like what's his fucking name in the simpsons uh sideshow bob stepping on all the rakes in a row you could just uh let people see the game i do think i don't know this is ultimately where like i feel like the industry has shifted because i i earnestly feel like back in the day a let's play of something wouldn't have dissuaded you from buying a game but i do feel like that might be more true today with more story focused stuff that lean less into like unique you know per player gameplay experiences and games that have like emergent gameplay, I should say, because there are games that I've watched.
2:08:00Like, I think there are definitely story games that I've watched entirely on YouTube where I'm like, I don't know if I would really get that different of an experience if I played this. You know, like that's how I felt about the order, really. Like when I played the order, I enjoyed it. But I also remember distinctly feeling like I could have probably watched this and got basically the same experience because there's no. It's not really a dynamic game in the way that a lot of other games are or the games that i value are whereas like i feel like in the ps2 you know maybe even early 360 era i feel like there was more to say about the experience of a game being different per person as opposed to you know certain titles and certain studios now where the differences might be a little less like how different is somebody's immortals of avian playthrough going to be from each other like probably a little bit but not not so vast that you would be like it's not like elden ring or something where everybody's playthrough is like mega different and watching a playthrough of it doesn't really ruin anything because you know that you have like a pretty bespoke self-tailored experience kind of waiting for you if you were to choose to go into it so i don't know i'm of two minds about this i i do think generally people only watch games that they don't intend to play but i do feel like a lot of lot of games are designed in such a way that it doesn't call you to play them you know yeah that's fair i don't know that's fair i think it's just about what you're looking for i am surprised i've always been surprised by the latitude that these studios and these publishers have given people to use their games um but i think it's probably been a high tide sort of situation where you're just yeah you're permeating it's going to be bad for some games like you said the order i think yeah totally i remember that it was bad for the order and there are other examples of that but there are so many examples where like just allowing a game to be seen and shown has been huge for it and is the kind of marketing you couldn't pay for and so i think everyone's kind of willing to enter that harsh buzzsaw marketplace where you might get sliced in half or you might make it out and be better off for it and the one thing that i saw in their in their documentation here that i was confused about was yeah it says here quote you may not alter or modify the materials except you may add your own avatars voiceovers text and other generally required and sharing the materials end quote i actually don't think they can really that's like getting more into parody and i'm actually not sure they have so much of a right to tell you that at some point i think the bigger thing is just playing like like when you see the no commentary walkthroughs of games and stuff it's like this is yeah full movie yeah it's like this is interesting i i would there are plenty of playthroughs of my games on there i think that they they're a good thing but there's nothing really to spoil but i guess you no one's like whole it's not like clockwork orange where they're like forcing you to watch the gameplay of like of like something like who you like who you what are you watching if you're interested in dragon quest 2 story and by the way i'm so tempted to just spoil it because it's so it's like whatever man this is drag quest 2 it's like it's not really that big of a spoiler
2:11:12but whatever I kind of have to oh by the way I wrote this in my notes I'm glad I looked down if you're looking for walkthroughs of Dragon Quest 1 and 2 I wrote a couple of them in 10th grade and they're still on GameFAQs so go have it I don't know if they've changed the games material actually I do know that they've changed Dragon Quest 1 specifically was like a 1v1 game where you were one character and you would fight one enemy at a time. Like that's all you would ever draw. And I heard that they made it so that like your one character can draw multiple enemies and stuff. So actually it should probably fundamentally be different, but might be useful to guide you along on your way.
2:11:49Should you be interested?
2:11:52Let's see. Yeah, there's a lot. Do not share materials on the following sites or services. Sites or services intended only for those aged 18 or over. Illegal or immoral sites or services. Sites or services that are religious, political, or related to anti-social activities. so like social media right seems a little broad to me yeah and it's probably they probably aren't going to do anything to anyone anyway but thought it was interesting people were circulating it not much to talk about this week so i thought i'd throw it in there finally finally playstation plus games for the month of november have been revealed these games will be available starting november 4th and they'll be live until december 1st so you can still get last month's games which are Alan Wake to Goat Simulator 3 and Cocoon.
2:12:37You should definitely try to lock those down to your download list since you'll have access to them later if you'd like as long as your PlayStation Plus subscription is active. The games this month are interesting. Stray for PS4 and PS5 is one of those games. I didn't even know they made a PS4 build for Stray. Maybe I didn't know that and I just forgot. I never beat Stray. It's a game I should probably get back to at some point. Did you beat it? Yeah, it's cute. It's a game that's really respectful of your time it's like only like five or six hours or something like that uh and it's the perfect length for like what kind of game it is it's a charming game i would recommend it especially especially for this you know yes this is going to be big for it i assume and hopefully people will enjoy i love the key art here for it it's like the cat with the backpack on it's so cute yeah um ea sports world rally championship 24 for ps5 is available this is of course the Codemasters long running Codemasters racing franchise EA acquired Codemasters for this very franchise so this will be available to you if you're into racing and then totally accurate battle simulator is available for PS4 and PS5 I'm not familiar with this game are you guys familiar with it I like the name a little bit I yeah I remember um I remember seeing gameplay videos of it a long time ago I'm sure it's probably undergone some pretty hefty changes since I first saw it because I think it was in early access when I first saw it and like really really new um but it's it's a charming kind of it's like it's like in as far as i remember it was kind of like pub g like the whole premise was that it was pub g but like it's with really wonky physics where you have to like really kind of it's it's really like goofy looking um but i never got around to playing it although i always wanted to this will be probably a good excuse to jump in all right uh oh dustin anything here for you yeah i was looking i was trying to remember so the team landfall uh they're the ones that made totally accurate battle simulator they also made the game's content warning friend slop awesome friend slop game and peak yeah which was just a huge success recently also really good uh what's the other the the racing game cool but I'm not gonna it might be cool but not for me stray uh was pretty good I liked it I I think other people liked it way more than I did but I mean if you haven't played it yet and you have PlayStation Plus it's definitely a good game to check out and there is a meow button I believe in the game that's perfect very there is perfect yeah all right that's all we have for the news all right my friends let's get into the games we're playing Chris I want to start with you you're playing ghost of yote so am i so we'll talk about that first and then we'll get into everything else through me and dustin then we'll get into the queries later on so what do you think of the game where are you how far are you in talk to me uh well i think so i just i'm just at the point where like i'm i think i'm crescendoing towards the kitsune which is one of the bosses i already took care of like two bosses i was kind of gone for a while so i was kind of get settling back into it and dude it was it's so weird coming back to this game at the point that i was in because i was i was deep enough where the game was kind of treating me like i was consistently playing it and so coming back i was like oh my god i'm getting my ass handed to me i forgot i forgot like which weapons are exactly the right counters for what and i had it like completely down pat when i left but um i think i'm still fairly early just because of just because i've been gone but uh i'm working my way through it slowly i think i'm gonna try and probably mainline it the issue with this game is that like it really does pull me away to do a lot of the side stuff like i i earnestly do want to do them like whenever there's like a new map to buy from the cartographer i always i always want to get it and like place it where it needs to go and uh there's there's there's a lot of there's a lot of really good open world things here that kind of pull your attention away that is is kind of difficult to resist because i feel like generally the stuff that you get from them are worth it also um i'm big into the bounty system i love oh it's so fun it's so fun it is really fun and it uh and thematically it's just really cool i love i always love that i love the concept of bounty hunting in any video game i just think it's fun but uh some of the side stories here are like really dope with some of the some of the people that you you hunt down i agree um but yeah i'm kind of getting back into the swing of things with ghost of yote so i don't have much new to say about it i do i will say um so far the boss encounters and like and like main like the main boss encounters that i've experienced so far uh pretty pretty satisfying you know in in my experience like it feels like it feels like a genuine accomplishment when you when you get through it narratively it's satisfying i'm just into it i like a like i know that there's like this um thing about oh a revenge story is so trite or whatever like it's it's so it's done and predictable and i'm like there's there's an element of that that's true but i i also just like revenge stories i don't know i just like it's like kill bill and you know all these other like i i know what's gonna happen you know i get it but it's still satisfying to get there and so like that's it's nailing the revenge thing for me like i'm into it and it doesn't what i like about it particularly is like in there doesn't seem to be like i don't feel like i'm getting hit with like a like an obvious lesson like i know it's there but like atu just seems really she seems really into it you know so like i'm down i'm down for it the game gets i want you to keep playing and i know you will yeah i will it gets fairly sophisticated i think the story and um i'm actually at the uh are you are you i don't want to interrupt you are you are you no i think i'm yeah i've i like i said i've only been playing a little bit since i've gotten back yeah settling back into things so like you've definitely played more than i have at this point yeah i just want to make sure i'm not cutting you off yeah um i'm 40 something hours in and i'm at the point of no return in the story uh i reached it last night at like 230 and i really appreciate games that do that just so you know where you are i've done pretty much i've done every bounty but one i don't know where the last bounty is so maybe it becomes available after the game's over i assume that's possible i've done everything i could like all the cartographers maps all the upgrades like i've done pretty much everything um i want to do like one more sweep and just see if i'm missing anything before i go in because i like doing as much as I can and then beating the game and then you're kind of done with it as opposed to having it all right now I have 25 hours here where I have to fucking chase after bamboo sword things and do all this kind of like I don't really want to do this um I really like this game I think I really think that this game is a really major step up from Ghost of Tsushima and it's impressive it's it's what happens when you keep the trappings of the original game in place that rock, paper, scissors style game that the game is revolving around with the different weapons and the weaknesses of the different enemies and what weapons they're employing.
2:19:53And so much of it, again, playing the games back to back, you just see it like so many of the animations are the same. So there's like, it's fine. It's totally fine because doing that allows you to use the trappings of what you've already had to make something deeper and better. And I think that Atsu is a much better and more interesting character than Jin. and the story though it is a revenge tale becomes so much crazier like there there are just twists and turns in the story in my opinion where i'm like oh that's pretty fucking cool and there's a there's a few of them there and i don't again fresh off of ghost of tsushima director's cut those things just don't really exist in the original game like jin jin's an interesting character but it's all about honor and then about and i don't want to spoil the game but it's like how he kind of starts doing what the samurai look at as the wrong thing like the idea of the shinobi like the the assassin the idea that like even the mongols the mongol invaders deserve to be fought with honor and and he's like you guys are fucking crazy like why would we ever do that and how it kind of all blows up in his face and um i don't even want to there's like there's a part of the game there's a part of yote of course yote is going to nod in some way to tsushima and when you see how it does it's fucking dope like I was like this is awesome and so yeah so I am I am surprised by how much I like it because I again I've said ad nauseum people know for years like Tsushima is a not a top tier Sony game to me it's not and this comes as a I'm a huge fan of infamous for instance it's not a sucker punch thing it's like it just never it was just i don't know there was something about it that was a little vanilla for me and i feel like they really solved a lot of that with this game it feels so much more brutal and urgent and i love it like i really do i think it's one of the great games of the year um level wiley wrote in and said hey colin just admit it you think ats who's not just not just not ugly but pretty hot same for dustin and chris don't like howards i don't know that she's hot, but like she's definitely cute.
2:22:06And as we were saying on the stream on Monday, Dustin, like you might be gay if you think Atsu is ugly. And there's nothing wrong with that. I'm not saying that there's nothing wrong with it. But like I'm playing the game and I'm into it. I look at her during the cut scenes where I look at her and I'm like
2:22:25you don't like cute Asian girls. Okay. That's unusual. yeah more power to you um but no she's definitely she's definitely in a it's like the people that thought aloy was ugly it's like wow man yeah i remember interesting interesting that you would say that thank you thank you for letting us know i remember what was it the uh because they were demonstrating the lighting or whatever uh and they were like she's got the the the the hair on her face right right my friend's like she's got hair on her face and i'm like oh my god you've never seen a woman yeah it really is like it's funny how self-telling it is you know whenever people say shit like that but whatever you know who i think the cutest character in the game is though is the bow maker oh yeah i haven't interacted with her much or whatever whatever her name is i haven't interacted with her much because i don't i'm not really into the bow stuff in general i like going in with like i i do stealth shit so like i'm sneaking up behind people so i never i haven't really fucked around with the bow too much i've gotten like the upgrades just because i could or whatever because i oh i check a thing off a list but i haven't spent much time with that character it's a uh it's a very satisfying game and i really do recommend it if you like tsushima you're gonna love this game and if you were a little more lukewarm and i i me look where I'm like where I'm like I would have given it in the eights it's by Sony standards it's not a god of war or horizon or an uncharted or a last of us or whatever from but this kind of is yeah yeah and I'm really really digging it and dude I said this I said this on the stream I said this last week absurdly beautiful to the point where I'm like what the fuck man like we're arguing about like can games look any better it's like to what end yeah you know like it's incredible the game it does have those the the trappings that i remember from tsushima though that indicate that it's like a little there's certain i don't want to say corners being cut because that's not necessarily a charitable way to put it like it's it's just it's smart to do things this way but whenever there's a conversation between two characters and the camera is like really far away from them right right you know so like so they don't have to like really go in and like animate really really tight shots between between characters that aren't really that super important to the to the narrative like i noticed those every now and again i'm like it's it's cute it's funny i like being able to see it but i liked i mean i really like tsushima just because it felt at the time it was it was just a new thing for them and so like it just felt a little bit more unique this time it is it goes to yote is better um but it's i i don't know it's not so it's not as better as tsushima was unique to me at the time that i played if that makes sense like it's like it's it's different it's it's it's definitely better and there's parts of it that i like i think i like atsu more than jinn i think i like their stories a little bit similarly i thought the honor stuff was cool i thought like i like jinn's story more than i like jinn and i feel like i like atsu more than i like atsu story if that makes sense but they're they're both like really good games and it's a really solid step up in a lot of different ways and i'm noticing that more as i as i play through it and i get deeper into it it feels a lot more elegant and it's a lot better paced i think also yeah the pacing's cool and i like how there's a little bit of non-linearity but not really and there's a lot of head faking in the story which is cool and it does feel like it moves at a fairly brisk pace there's a lot of as you noted a lot of cool npcs like just the different senseis that you study with and and all the bounties having their own little story.
2:26:15And again, I just like, I love bounty systems, whether it's in a Final Fantasy game or in this game or whatever. I just love the idea. Red Dead, just like going after people and like bounty hunting is so cool. It goes back to Boba Fett and all that. It's like this is, or like old Westerns. People love bounty hunters. It's inherently cool. Yeah. Yeah. Or of course, Dog, the bounty hunter. We all loved him as well. I will say to the point of the presentation, they did make this game for cheap. I mean, if Nate, I don't know why Nate Fox would lie. If he's if what he's saying is true, that they made it for a similar amount of money.
2:26:48This is a sub 100 million dollar game. And. You can kind of see how they might have done that. And I think a major thing is that the game doesn't have enough. And this is where I think that they actually could have spent a little more, if I'm being honest with you, is like more cinematics. There's a lot of this stuff is an engine and like you're saying, a little clumsy. They do have cinematics, obviously, but. Just these things that are that give you a little bit more heft, I think would be cool. But that's a small complaint. It's a game that's fun to fun to play and still incredibly atmospheric.
2:27:20And I just the world seems set up to, as I was saying recently, always to give you a beautiful view. And the lighting's insane. The vistas are insane. The little details, the birds flying around and the wildlife and the chittering of the insects. and it's like damn dude like there's just this is good shit and and i i personally highly recommend the bow i love the bow like you break it out and you use the slow down thing so like guys without helmets on you just pop them like in the beginning of the fight and then you fight just the dude and you kind of thin their numbers very useful but there are a lot of options there's like there are a bunch of things i'm not even using in this game um i don't use the smoke bombs or the explosives i used to i in the in tsushima i would use the kunai a lot but i don't use it at all in this game there's a ton of there's like a there's almost too many options there's like a bunch of radials basically like you hold down r2 you hold down l2 like all these different radials come up and then you select things with the face buttons and the and the d-pad or whatever and maybe a little much but options aren't necessarily bad no yeah i think i personally would have sacrificed some of the extraneous combat options that feel a little bit more secondary in exchange for like maybe better cinematics although like the cinematics aren't again it's it's it's like a yakuza game where like you get some cut scenes where like the voice acting is there and then you have one cutscene where it's where it's a guy going like and then it's like a it's like not exactly like that but it's like you can tell where the prioritized scenes are and when when the ones that are like a little bit less integral are but they still feel i mean it's still a very like elegantly put together game i only notice it because i'm like weirdly clued into that stuff i wouldn't be surprised if most people didn't really clock that kind of thing where dustin where are you on atsu is she attractive i don't think she's ugly but i also am not like oh man she's hot i don't know i i honestly have not really thought about it right that much you're a normal person is what you're saying yeah um but i so i did play a little more ghost of shima last night and i'm getting back into it now i took a little break to play ninja gaiden but i'm i'm coming back i think i'm in the final area of the game but i'm not sure so uh i will have a lot more to say next week on ghost as i play this weekend okay cool and i'm trying to rally the troops for a uh spoiler cast that we would hopefully review or hopefully record next week but we have to just see what everyone's availability is i think i think gene's the only one that's really committed so we'll see yeah maddie i was surprised hasn't played yet but we're in a time of choosing right now oh yeah and so it's a game that just a lot of people aren't going to get to anytime soon this is a problem for i mean silent hill f for instance is a game i have to keep reminding myself like oh yeah that's probably because i was wondering after i'm done with ghosts like what is the next triple a game i'm going to play because there's a bunch of like random smaller things i want to play but it's like oh yeah i gotta play silent hill that's probably got to be next that's me with uh chronos oh yeah dude you're gonna love chronos i'm telling you you're gonna love it i can i can tell i just like it's it's sitting there man yeah it's infuriating a little bit i'm really conscious of my backlog in a way that i haven't been lately you know it's really eating at me all yeah don't let it do that just be yeah if you can all right uh okay so other games we can talk about these quick power rush simulator 2 i've been playing i'm probably eight hours or so in.
2:30:44I really like playing it on the bigger screen and just listening to podcasts, but because I'm playing Ghost again, I haven't gotten to it too much, but I actually played it pretty late last night. I went to bed at like five in the morning because I was playing it. Jesus. Too blurry, too bigfoot wrote in and said, hello, gentlemen, this one is for Colin, but I'd love to hear Chris and Dustin's input. On last week's episode, you said you wanted Power Watch Simulator 2 to add trophies to their free DLC so that you wouldn't feel like you were wasting your time. And if they had put trophies on their free DLC in the first game, you would have played more of it.
2:31:09I have to ask, what level of psychosis is this? In a game you, by your own acknowledgement, loved. You didn't play parts of it because you felt like you were wasting your time because there were no trophies attached. Is it really time wasted if spent doing something enjoyable? If you enjoy it, but won't do it without trophies, do you actually enjoy it or does the enjoyment come from trophy number go up? Would you not play a game you would otherwise enjoy if it didn't have trophies? I personally don't care about trophies in the slightest. So these questions stem from a place of genuine curiosity and bewilderment.
2:31:34Thank you for your time. I'll hang up and listen. I like, I love trophies, but I like tracking the things I do. It's, it's, it is a psychosis. I mean, what level is it? A deep, high level or low level. I don't know what the numbers would be. I would say it's a deep, low level psychosis, right? You know? Yeah, sure, sure. But I totally understand you. I totally hear you. But it bothers me knowing that companies go through this trouble of updating their games for free, which is cool, but they don't realize they can put trophies on free content or they just don't care. And it's like you've done all the work already.
2:32:10Why wouldn't you just execute on this last piece of it? if Lily Mo can put fucking free trophies on their updates, I definitely think they can do the same. So I don't think I'm out of turn for asking for that. And I and by the response to my tweet to them about it a week or two ago, a lot of people agreed 100%. And I bet you those free updates will have DLC or those free deals. Updates will have trophies and maybe you'll have me to thank. And then who will have the last laugh? Thank you for writing in. And finally, I've been playing Plants vs. Zombies Replanted. Quantum Radish wrote in and said, hey, CDC, this one's for Colin.
2:32:46Do you understand the controversy around Plants vs. Zombies Replanted? I've beaten it twice and had no issues. The controversy over the concept art and dynamic music reeks of reused boat animation energy to me. So what if some of the concept art is from other games in the franchise and the dynamic music has been removed from Namely in the DS and mobile ports? Get over it and play the game. It looks smooth and runs great. Here's to hoping they remake PVZ2 without the microtransactions. I hope that as well. So yeah, as I said earlier, I'm on the rooftop missions in the campaign of plants versus zombies, which is the last 20 % of the game.
2:33:18And I have no idea what anyone's talking about. Yeah, that's true. True enough. There was like that. People were even saying the game was running poorly and stuff when it leaked. And I haven't had any problems with the way the games run on. And I played it entirely on Portal via PS5. And I love it, dude. Like plants versus zombies is a 10. And if you now it's plants versus zombies, If you've played it before, it's not different. It's not a new plans versus zombies. It's not a plans versus zombies you've never seen before, but it remains one of the great. Arcade style games, really, and I don't mean action.
2:33:57It's like. There's a it's obviously a tower defense game, but it's special. It's interesting. It's really, really deep. I forgot as I was playing it and you just unlock more and more shit. I'm like, damn, dude, there are so many options to play this game. you can really play it in a million different ways and it's super cool so i highly recommend plants versus zombies replanted quantum radish to your inquiry uh to the point of your inquiry i have no idea what anyone's talking about with the problems with it i haven't looked at any of the extras or perks and there's a bunch of other modes i haven't you know messed too much with either but the core game the core plants versus zombies game is alive and well and plants versus zombies replanted and i do recommend it based on my experience dustin let's go to you it says here you're playing battlefield six red sec and vampire survivors so take it away yeah so i'm i'm playing more than just these two games i'm still playing ninja gaiden and i mentioned playing ghost of yote last night but i don't have anything to say about those but i do have stuff to say about these two games first of all battlefield six red sec so this was a i guess they tried to make it a surprise drop of the battlefield six battle royale mode just earlier this week.
2:35:07But there was rumors floating around and people that basically were like, yeah, this is happening. Be ready for it. And so, yeah, I hopped into this two nights ago with Brandon and Ben and our friend Justin. And it's pretty cool. It's not a revolution in any way. It is a battle royale mode and it is clearly very, it's a lot like war zone in particular, which makes sense that that's probably the closest one. That's going to be like the call of duty battle royale and the battlefield six battle royale, but they did make some interesting tweaks. For example, your squad leader, when you jump, when you jump out of the helicopter in the beginning, your squad leader, it's like you're all tied together.
2:35:55so you can all land in the same spot uh you can choose to like break away which is i guess nice but it behaves really similar to war zone you're going around you're trying to find your loot you can upgrade your weapons but where it gets a little more different or i guess different from war zone is just that the first of all if you die within the first it's probably like 10 or 15 minutes i can't remember exactly if you die you will automatically get redeployed so in war zone you would have a chance to fight for the chance to come back in the gulag where you would 1v1 someone if you won you got to immediately come back in this they give you like a little grace period that if you die you just get to come back now if you're out of that grace period or if you've already died once before a there are these revive stations where and i'm trying to remember how this worked in war zone maybe it's pretty similar but you find the revive station you sit on that point for a minute or something and it lets out like so you're just like letting everyone know in the area that you're sitting there and if you do you're able to successfully bring your teammate back there are a lot of vehicles in it there are tanks that are really fucking annoying if you're not in a tank but we had a fun time with it i'll probably go back more probably even tonight we'll check it out some more but uh it was interesting but i wonder what the legs are going to be on it just because it's not that unique compared to war at least from what i could tell i didn't i haven't i don't have like 10 hours into it yet but it really is going to come down to how you feel about how it plays versus warzone feels like playing battlefield instead of call lot of people but now also i mean tonight not tonight today arc raiders is out so i wonder how much time i'll be playing red sec and i'll be playing arc raiders later tonight the other game that i wanted to mention is vampire survivors which just got uh new first of all updates to its other dlc i think there was an update to the castlevania dlc and some of the other ones but more importantly what i was checking out was the free bellotro update and so this is a new bellotro themed level and there is a you get to play as the the joker himself i'm trying to remember he has a name uh but it's escaping me right now but you get to play as him and there's like a a special new weapon which looks like the points counter on Bellatro and it's like basically like an AOE attack and as you kill enemies with it the score goes up just like in Bellatro and it's really cool and I'll let me tell you guys last night so I played this DLC the day it came out I had a lot of fun with it there's still more stuff I can do I think there's like a banana weapon and stuff like that but uh when i went i had the intention to sit down and play ghost of yote and i sat down and because it was the last thing i played vampire survivors popped up and it was like the green goblin mask staring at me i was like oh you could just you just turn your brain off and not think about anything you could just play vampire survivors more uh but i resisted and decided to play ghost of yote vampire survivor is just the best it's the best in the biz i've played other games that are trying to go for it i've even been playing ball pit which i think ball pit is fantastic and i've played super bonk or whatever the fuck it's called i always forget if it's mega bonk super bonk whatever it's i think it's mega bonk yeah it's mega bonk and mega bonk is great too but going back and just playing vampire survivors again i'm like oh yeah this is it this is the game i i meant to post it on twitter maybe i will later tonight where my character so you have the upgrades that you can do between each match i'm fully kidded like there is no other upgrades for me to do which is honestly made the game trivially easy at this it's made it trivial overall and there was a point when i recorded the screen where it was like you couldn't there's no fucking way you can see anything going on it was just like bullets flying around a million like million well it looks like millions of numbers all over the place i was like man this is i don't even have to do anything i'm just sitting here but i'm just it's still fun i'm just enjoying my the my character that i've created that's just annihilating everything so if you have vampire survivors you can download the free bellatro dlc it's very cool it's very cute and uh there's always a reason to go back there dude there's dlcs that i saw haven't played like there's a there's an among us dlc for vampire survivors and i haven't played the castlevania stuff either so will will the green goblin mask of vampire survivors win out for me to waste all my time when i should be playing other games maybe but time will tell vampire survivors is good i got over it after a while but it is very addictive and yeah there is something very like primitive brain about it like oh numbers and dude explosions i will say colin getting the platinum and vampire survivors made it a much more fulfilling experience like it made me enjoy the game way more going for the platinum not every game there are many games that has done the exact opposite but that game really encouraged me to explore every aspect of it and understand it in a deeper way.
2:41:44Yeah, yeah. I got to get back to it at some point. I dropped it after a few weeks, but I played it pretty extensively. It was like this time last year. I want to say that it came out. All right, very well. That's all we're playing this week. I'm actually on Summon Sign, the next Summon Sign, so I'll be talking more extensively about these three games in that venue. All right, let's get into listener inquiries and wrap this show up because it's almost time to go. We have six questions, comments, concerns, thoughts and ideas from the audience over on patreon patreon.com slash last day media remember part of your party of your set of perks your package of perks over on patreon.com slash last day media is the ability to submit inquiries to the show via the thread in the news feed each week it posts on wednesdays and is deleted on thursdays so you have about a 24 hour period a little less than that's like 21 hours to get your inquiry and you've heard a bunch of them throughout the show already here's six more of them we start with carl of rng who says hello sacred symbols boys this year i've gone back and played a lot of playstation 3 games and have fallen in love with games like the puppeteer and rain my question is with bandai namco republishing importing japan studio projects to other consoles and pc which one will you think get the treat that get that treatment next i don't know that my my opinion on this is i don't know that there's going to be more it doesn't seem like anyone cared about freedom wars which is too bad because that game rules.
2:43:06I bought it, but I must admit I didn't play the new version of it, but I bought it. I wanted to show them some love. And then Patapon kind of came and went. Not a huge surprise there as well. It does seem like everybody's golf has done pretty well. And I am interested in numbers on that. I wonder if we'll ever get any. Maybe in the, I don't want to overstate it, but maybe in the few hundred thousand or something. And that might be a respectable number to keep these things going but it just doesn't seem like there's much resonance with this i don't really know what sony gets out of this other than some marginal licensing money for like freedom wars might have sold in the tens of thousands of copies like it doesn't seem like it hit at all and that's too bad because that's one of the great vita games but um so the next japan studio aligned game that i would love to see out there is like something like tokyo jungle you obviously brought up puppeteer puppeteers to sony should just re-release puppeteer as a 20 you know port or whatever to ps4 or ps5 rain is more in line with what you're talking about but rain is even a smaller game so i don't know that that would really fit in there either although like you're not using those as suggestions you're just saying you're going back and falling in love with those games but i'll always beat the drum for a tokyo jungle um as one of the great japan studio aligned games that came out during that era um dustin do you think that we'll see more of these bandai namco playstation well games it seems like maybe this was a test but maybe they have more maybe they have more going that would be cool yeah well it would be interesting to see them i'm sure i'm like i'm looking through the list of japan studio games and it's like what if they had bandai namco make a a wild arms game would that would that please you yeah but that's more this is the problem with japan studio is that japan studio was like a like an associate like they would associate with a lot of different games but weren't really the teams that made them so like media vision made wild arms and media vision still exists right um and this is the same thing with like like for instance puppeteer is and rain are truly internal games but actually like freedom wars is not really a japan studio game pat upon was made by what that studio pyramid that worked with japan studio um you know hot shots golf is it was was clap hands working with japan studio but really it's about also like what we're exactly talking about i guess right yeah but yeah that would please that lot of me to get more wild arms i'd love that i would i would love for them to start with just porting you know they got one two and three out it's like four and five would let's get those as playstation classics out there too that'd be cool what about i feel like this game is kind of in the vein of pat upon loco roco yeah loco i mean loco roco got a lot of love in astrobot there's a whole world dedicated to it so it was remastered for playstation 4 right the first one but they could i mean they could put that over on switch sure um another one and this is more santa monica aligned but it's the same kind of game is uh sound shapes would be cool yeah i love that game that's a really great game um chris do you have anything you want to say about this do you think that the experiment is over it does seem like these games kind of failed to launch don't know that there's a lot of reason to explore further yeah if if i'm being pragmatic about or like thinking pragmatically i would probably bet on not seeing many more of these uh which is a shame because there's just there is a lot of cool shit there but like i just didn't i don't see the interest next inquiry comes from mercury as their team who says hey cdc thoughts on the recent halo announcement being co-opted for government propaganda in the funniest way stay well and thank you for your attention to this matter did you guys there's a lot of drama around this and i wanted to bring this up for one reason i've always said that these worlds belong together they intersect with each other and um everything's downstream of culture right so like games are a place you want to be i feel like a lot of the melting down is a little hypocritical we've dealt with many years and even decades of the ship being thrown in the other direction and that was totally acceptable wanted needed but when the other political party starts co-opting these things for their own messaging it becomes a problem suddenly and i think that that's an inconsistency that people have to examine and acknowledge in their own world views you know um i think it makes perfect sense to go after these sectors if you're a politician or you're in a political world and it seems like for better or for worse whether you agree with it or not it's like this administration seems to be the one leaning into the meme culture and like the entire thing around that bit more than anyone and it's working i saw that after that they were talking about lord of the rings and doing all sorts of other shit like um which was always a little right-wing coded i guess anyway but like i i guess what i'm saying is and i wonder if you agree with this chris is if it goes one direction it should certainly go in the other direction it's not especially pleasant for people to have you know liberal politicians and liberal video game you know liberal stances being shoved into games and yet i've tolerated we've all tolerated that for years and i've accepted that that's everyone's right to do that it's like it is what it is but it seems a little hypocritical now that it's going in the other direction do you agree uh i guess sure for some people i mean i've always kind of found it cringe regardless like i just it reminds this kind of whole thing reminded me of like pokemon go to the polls you know where it's just like trying really hard like they don't these people don't play hay you know what i mean like they don't play halo they specifically a lot of these people have been on record as saying like like oh what was it that was i think it was was it the uh there was something recently that was like somebody misappropriated or somebody oh god i wish i could remember more specifically like somebody cited halo as a oh people are killing each other in the street because they're playing oh yeah because of halo right right yeah it's like it's like you don't know what this is and like this administration as many administrations before it have like shit all over video games and talked about these links about like violence and all that shit so it's like it's it's just poser energy it reminds me of like hillary clinton being like oh pokemon go to the polls like you don't know what that shit is it was heraldo rivera yeah heraldo and you're just like i don't know it's always come across to me as like lame and just weird it comes across as try hard it comes across as like hello fellow kids uh i'm not really offended by the fact that they use it i think it's like whatever it's just the culture that we're in now it's just like we're just a deeply unserious it's everything's just deeply unserious now that's certainly true so i mean it is what it is like i wasn't like bent out of shape about it's like yeah i mean they can post whatever the fuck they want you know and and the developers can say whatever they want in retaliation to it or in support of it what like who gives a shit uh but i've always just felt like politicians using video games to like push a narrative has always been lame and by the way that's different from like politics being expressed in video games i think there's like a distinct difference there like i think there's a difference between having a game with a right-wing perspective or like a game a video game with like a left-wing perspective versus you know modern political candidates in a contemporary landscape kind of using it to push certain things or like or politicians referencing certain popular material just to seem relevant i think those are distinctly different things um but yeah i mean i don't i don't really care i think it's i think it's funny that it happened i think the funniest thing about it is master chief or what is it uh trump putting himself in like master chief armor yeah despite the fact that he's like he's a draft dodger being the draft dodger being in the master farmer is very funny i think i think that is funny i think that is hysteria like i i want to fight the covenant but my bone spurs are crazy i don't know i've done that six-year-old make him do it i don't know it's i love i loved corta jd vance's cortana i thought was pretty funny in one of the images i saw that they share yeah yeah i don't know i think it's i think it's just a consequence of everything just being the thing that bothers me about it really and this is fundamental of like everything is that like i don't like politicians and comedians intersecting I don't like politicians and meme culture intersecting.
2:51:13I think it just, I don't know. It reminds me of when Obama was on comedians and cars getting coffee. And I remember being like, you're not a comedian. What are you doing here? Like, you're not, this is not for you. Like, this is weird. And like more recently with like a lot of politicians, like being on like right wing podcasts, I'm like, or comedian podcasts. You know, I'm just like, what? I don't know, man. But that's the culture that we're in now. Now, now all the politicians are going to go on these podcasts. So it's just kind of it's the new world that we've set up. But like, I think it's all kind of like, I don't know.
2:51:46I don't like comedians intersecting with politics like this, but it's the new world that we're in. So it is what it is. But I do. I did think that it's something so funny about him in the armor. Dustin, do you have any? How do you feel about this? I mostly completely agree with Chris in that we mentioned the Biden Animal Crossing Island earlier. That's cringe. I think initially, you know, Chris mentions the tweet with Trump in the AI picture of him and the Master Chief Farmer. I think that the idea that GameStop was like, we're declaring the end of the console war with Halo coming to PlayStation.
2:52:27and then them saying like oh look it's another war that trump has uh that ended under his term like whether you agree with it or not it's it's a funny thing for them to comment on it yeah but they couldn't just leave it at that because then there was the was it like homeland security or something that was like fight the flood or something yeah yeah then it's like you ruined it you completely ruined you could have just left it as this funny little like haha the console wars are over but now it's like you're co-opting this into um you know your if you want to call it propaganda or your messaging or whatever and then it gets annoying at that point so yeah it's it's weird and i i my sorted out on um summon sign was for game stop because it was the same type of thing initial tweet very funny but then they just kind of overdid the joke where they were like posting Trump memes and stuff.
2:53:26And I'm like, I just don't know. It seems like a dumb idea for you guys to do that. But clearly GameStop hasn't been in the business of doing things that make sense for a while. Yeah. I also just think that there's a. There has been such a co-opting of culture in one direction for so long that I think it's shocking for people to see any brand think it's safe to interact in the opposite direction that would have really been unthinkable years ago. And it does show us sort of what what might be called a vibe shift in a way, although I think that it goes into what Chris was saying, that things are just becoming less serious.
2:53:59And I think that's kind of good. Like, I, I think the only thing that would make this error worse is if it was serious. I don't know. I don't know. The issue is that things are way more serious than they have been in a long time. But we're we're everybody's taking things less seriously than. Sure. That's kind of the issue is that, like, things are really serious, actually, like right now. But no one cares. or like it like it's wild that like a government entity is like comparing immigrants regardless of their status to like a zombie parrot like that's kind of a crazy that's a wild thing like i because even like right wing because there's uh ex-designers of halo who are like right leaning um who've talked about it where it's like yeah i'm not even like a left-leaning guy but like that's kind of a crazy like the flood is not an allegory for immigration in their space their space zombies they were cool to fight uh so it's yeah i don't know it's it's weird it's like it's a i've never seen something so out of sync with itself as as uh modern political commentary and then modern politics like they both seem deeply out of sync with each other and it seems like we were taking things so seriously when things were not so serious yeah that's kind of what's wild it's like it's 2015 2014 things were so serious but they weren't and now it's like the reverse and it's just like all right well we're never going to sync up i guess it is what it is mercury has 13 thank you for writing in i personally have of the mind that it should go in all directions and i think it's good i think it's healthy i think it should go in no directions i hate all of it sweaty hog wrote in and said good day cdc long time listener first time right in just curious as to why you don't run ads for games my curiosity peaked after listening to the latest secret symbols plus episode where colin mentioned turning down nintendo money i did i'm just not seeing or understanding the issue if it was a sponsored review or something like that i understand the conflict of interest that comes in that comes with it i'm sorry however as far as any random game ad goes what's the issue with you guys taking that money thanks i'll hang out with my i'll hang up with my hog out now make him wink um yeah so that did come up on a secret symbols plus episode recently i was talking to our ad people and they they they nintendo wanted an ad buy that was so substantial that they actually approached me separately and like are you sure um and i was like yeah i don't like we can't dude trust me i it's hard turning down tens of thousands of dollars um but i don't think we need to do it first of all like what's i always say right like what's enough i always say that about like mega corporations like what's enough how much are they going to nickel and dime you you know these cars with subscriptions for heated seats and yeah yeah you know the the hbo max going up in price every two months and it's like what's enough and i think we make enough money that's number one and the second and i don't i think that why take endemic money that's just going to make the show more ad-ridden and stuff like that like yeah i'd make more money sure but i think that that's not a zero-sum game and it's it's Thank you.
2:57:22if I'm taking money from from companies and why wouldn't i why wouldn't you expect me to pull my punches this is what i said about ign for many years and why i think it works in a place like that is that like we really didn't know what was going on with sales like we didn't i'm not lying to you like i didn't know none of us knew it was on the other side of the building we had no communication with those people about business i mean we were friends with friendly with them a lot of them were you know 20 something year old girls and we were all 20 something year old guys we obviously had you know friendships and and people dated and did all that kind of stuff but it wasn't like professionally, it was really on the up and up.
2:57:56And I think in that situation, I'd be perfectly comfortable not knowing. And so like you see when your reviews go up and then it's got an ad on it. You're like, okay, I didn't know that was happening. And there it is. But that's not the way these small companies work. And I don't want anyone to think badly of us because we took a sponsorship from company X and then we happen to like a game from company X anyway. And then people call that in the question. And I did that all for what,$10 ,000 or something like that. And then like this, this is something that we have to deal with. It's like, I don't know, man.
2:58:28I just, to me, I, I think it's an easy now we're lucky we're fan funded. We have at any given time between 12 and 13 ,000 people paying, you know, an average of$5 a month for the content. And that goes back into like, what is enough? And I think that's enough. Now I have no problem taking non endemic ads and we do because i don't think that that causes a conflict of interest but i know i've used this example in the past but i find it weird i find it well not even an example but just a stance of like i find it weird when people say like oh that company took money from this game publisher or whatever and then they trash the game later and like in some way that's even weirder you have like no principles at all you'll just take money for anything you don't even care if the game's good like you took money for a shitty game promoted it and then basically admitted the game was bad like why even put yourself in these positions and tie yourself into a pretzel not worth it so yeah the nintendo thing was tough because it was a lot but um we'll live and i think it's the right choice ultimately to stay away from that sort of thing and i basically cringe when i see like sponsored sponsored sponsored let's play sponsor like and it's like the here's an outer worlds to let's play sponsored by the outer worlds too it's like hmm yeah you wouldn't have played it without that sponsorship and you probably wouldn't publish this video without it it's promotional and you're not going to sit there and shit on it that's not going to happen you're not going to do it yeah there's there's the mind's eye streams where people were like right like that was too much for people like they couldn't even they were too principled for that that was so funny trust me dude i've played a lot of games early for money when i was uh i kind of funny streaming plenty of times and it's kind of icky i think that's just my personal opinion it's not a it's not a projection of value on anyone else so don't take it that way dustin should we be taking the money all the everything they're worth this games industry um no i don't think so we talked about this i don't know what show was on i was saying that i got my first sponsorship offer on my youtube channel was for raid shadow legends and uh i decided to not take it not that i even really thought about it how much was afforded you might say they there was no offer for the amount it was like name your price oh what would you what would you have asked for i honestly i don't know i have no idea my channel is so new that i don't know i have no idea what i'm worth right now so um and i am open to figuring out sponsorship opportunities it's probably going to be something i'm going to be doing in the future but i'm with you that it it's going to depend on different people because like i i know that some of our audience the elephant in the room not the elephant but like maddie does this he'll take sponsorships for a certain or he has in the past i don't know if he has recently and like if he's built that kind of relationship with his audience and they they trust him and they want him to get the bag i think that's awesome and people have mentioned that to me um i was doing a stream the other day and someone's like if you did a raid shadow legends ads we would just be happy for you that you were getting the bag and we would understand i'm like yeah but like do you really think that i would recommend raid shadow legends to you do you think i would do that right right if if you and i were friends uh in real life and i was like man you really got to check out this game uh it's like no and so for me again this is applies to each person differently it's just like i don't really want to operate that way personally um and i think there's different lines too like where now we live in an environment where there's there's so much hostility towards uh people that are in the gaming press or whatever you want to say where some people look at even getting a code is a complex conflict of interest to some degree um and i think that there are different varying degrees like there's been a lot of conversations about what xbox how they fly people out and get them dinner and all this stuff and i don't know i I don't don't even really like that's not unlike a lot of other companies during the heyday.
3:02:47It's not it's unfair to pick on Microsoft for that. Right. Donnie would do the same thing. Trust me. Right. So everyone's going to have their own lines. And I think it's good for sacred that and last stand in general that we don't do it just because you're right. We have we we have the luxury of being funded by the audience. And we're so thankful for that, that that gives us the opportunity that we don't have to sell you on Nintendo or Ark Raiders or whatever, like any of these games that have ads that come through. Now, to be clear, Colin, I think it's important we mention this. If you're listening to the podcast on free feeds, there can be dynamic ads that are inserted that are about video games.
3:03:28But those do not include they're like pre-recorded something else. those don't don't include in a personal endorsement from any of us yeah we really it's just like a radio ad or something yeah we really can't do much about that um yeah that's like basically every podcast episode is looked at as inventory to the and they're trying and they're basically just flooding the zone with the ads like the general network ads and that's just part of the deal of being on the network but we will never uh read those ads and i think the game ads are fairly scarce and we've turned down a few things this year um i turned down arc raiders yeah we would be we would be sponsored by them right now for five figures um for a few episodes you know and so and i was like we just can't do that now i want to be clear before i go to chris because i'm really interested to see what he has to say as he's a youtuber but you know by nature is and this is what i'm glad he brought maddie is like i want to reiterate i'm not placing a value judgment on other people's decisions.
3:04:28And I'm not saying that those people are necessarily doing anything wrong. I actually and I've said, I mean, Maddie and I've had this conversation and I think I think he's kind of getting tired of the grind a little bit, if I'm being honest, and he can kind of speak for himself just about dealing with PR people and just the kind of hoops you have to jump through and like how much they just manipulate and arbitrarily lie. And I mean, Dustin, you saw that. I mean, I don't want to call you can cut this out if you want, but like that didn't that happen? yeah i'll cut this out they explained so just just cut it right back in here never mind uh so to me like i've said it before and i'll reiterate i know it's it's old news but it's like the second i started publishing games and getting those codes in the mail is the second i was like holy shit these people are lying and that pisses me off i'd rather just be ignored then you'd like tell me like oh yeah sorry we're out of codes like no you're not and uh no you're definitely not out of codes um in fact i said that to a pretty prominent pr person when i was talking to them earlier in the year and the person laughed when i said that because they know it's true like where i'm like it's just it's annoying like i know especially if you're like a first party and you could just go get more codes it's like come on man right um come on man so i want to say that i'm it's i'm not casting a value judgment but i i actually to your point Dustin what you said about PR access and stuff I actually do think it's kind of becoming a conflict of interest and for people I think Xbox is the modern example of that with a lot of creators it's they're not again it's not exclusive to them Sony flew me all over the world dude right like it's not like they they put me up in Europe they put me up in Japan they put me up in all over the United States and all these different places they flew me to New York for the PS4 reveal you know like that i'm not above i'm not above saying like that we were in that world of access journalism i mean that's what it is but i would rather eschew the access and just be free of it all and i know that a lot of people don't have that luxury but i also think that people overstate that luxury i think if you're truly good at what you do you don't need in fact i I think releasing things at embargo often floods your flood zones and makes your shit go unnoticed.
3:06:41So I think that a lot of people use that as an excuse. It's like if you really need if you need that access. I'm not so and I don't think Maddie needs it. I've said that to him for years. You know, like for years since he went since he wrote side quests. I would be like, you don't really need to play the game, but he wants to play the game. And I respect that. But for me, because he's so talented, it's like, dude, you're you're a master. You know, you don't need do it at your own pace. But I think some people feel that grind and they want to be timely and all the rest. But I feel more liberated than ever by not being part of that ecosystem because no one, you know, I'm called a shill sometimes by other people.
3:07:19And it's like, well, you have to you have to ask yourself to what end? Like, where do I have a where is there a connection, a tether where I could be a shill and I would get some sort of benefit? And removing myself from that, I think, has been good. Chris, I'm curious to know where you are on this. You obviously have done sponsored stuff many times. Yeah, you do great ads. I actually was the what's your it's like a llama character, right? Or oh, yeah, yeah. The Paul thing. Paul, I did. You did. You did. You did a voice for when I did. I had a YouTube figure. Right, right, right, right. It was the one you did it for.
3:07:57So you do really good ads. I think some people do really, really cool, engaging ads like advertisers much love working with you because you're not just reading. a script that you wrote or something like that. You're doing a little bit of acting and a little bit of this and a little bit of that. So you have a lot of insight into this. Where are you on the taking money and the endemic ads versus the non-endemic ads and all the rest? I don't know, man. I used to be a little bit more strict about this, but I think I've just gotten so jaded with everything where it's like, I don't know, man. If you can get a presidential pardon for defrauding veterans, I'm not going to sweat taking money.
3:08:27You know what I mean? It's kind of over now. I'm just like, whatever. If Mindsign wants to give me 10 grand to play minds i'll whatever that's fine by me now i'm like i don't really care anymore now it's all about because there's no real benefit it feels like it really does kind of feel like culturally now there really is no benefit to being like an honorable person it's kind of it really kind of just hamstrings like honestly like earnestly i'm being so serious like it just feels like what do you gain yeah that's true out of it really and i get it's like a moral thing and like but again like i i just don't view necessarily doing an ad for something that you don't have that deep of a relationship with as like a deep moral impurity and also i come from i don't know i i come i come into youtube from like a different space where like i just kind of wanted to make things i think i've only done one ad for something that i didn't play i think i did a vikings it was like vikings war of clans ad and i remember being like i don't play this in my audience knows i don't play this so like i don't really know what you expect of me and they were like just do kind of whatever you want here's the like the main talking points you don't got it you don't got to go over it but you can make it you can do whatever you want and i remember taking that as kind of a challenge of like oh yeah okay well i look at this as like kind of a production job whereas like i wonder if i could make an entertaining commercial for just for something in general i don't think i did it i think they were happy with it uh a lot of other companies i think every other company i i did use like dollar shave i remember being like a really good partner because they would let me do fucking whatever i remember i asked them like can i use can i use your razors to threaten people like can i use it as like a weapon and like show that it's a good weapon and they were like yeah fucking whatever i'm like all right cool so i appreciate that level um but i i don't really got any issue with with people getting a bag from especially from mega corporations now it's just like get rip them off as far as as far as i'm concerned uh in this era where like adobe has like 200 cancellation fees and like i hate adobe man game pass is 30 a fucking month and like hbo max is like oh we're upping the price again like i just it's really difficult for me to i almost look at it as some kind of moral imperative in some way to be like yeah take money from them you know just take it uh obviously it's case by case um I think certain people do it well.
3:10:54But I earnestly don't think it's like a crazy. I don't think it's like a big moral thing. It's one thing if you're it's one thing if you're like putting an image out of like, oh, yeah, I play, you know, I play Diablo or like I play Vikings, War of Clans and then like doing an ad for it, even though you're lying about it. But I think if people know you and people have built a fandom around you or people build a relationship with a content creator, they kind of know what what a bag ad is and and what an earnest kind of thing is. And I think the funniest thing about a lot of the ads that I would do is like.
3:11:32Most again, everything aside from Vikings, which is a mobile game, everything I earnestly used and earnestly liked, and I would make a point to say that and Vikings, I didn't say. anything and so like it was just kind of clear it's like yeah i mean you you know i don't play fucking mobile games um but i people got to do what they're gonna do you know it's fine again i'm not casting aspersions only talking about me yeah no me neither um and uh god if we did take that money we probably have several more employees um actually we wouldn't need more points. We should have taken it. Yeah. Yeah. You know what?
3:12:09Second thought. I don't want this thing to be any bigger. It's enough already. I mean, enough. Like, please. I just want to rest. Just let me rest. Like, I'm tired. I look all the time. Getting old. Jonathan Turner wrote in, said, hey, boys, last generation, I built a gaming PC, but still grabbed a PS4 for Uncharted 4, The Last of Us Part 2, and really just Sony exclusives in general. Now that nearly all of Sony's first-party games eventually make their way to PC. I felt zero reason to buy a PS5 this generation. GTA isn't enough to move me, and the one studio that would, Naughty Dog, usually releases its big projects towards the end of a console's life anyway.
3:12:46That means Intergalactic will almost certainly have an upgraded version on PS6 if I decide to go that route instead of waiting for the PC release. So my question is, should I just skip the PS5 entirely and wait for the PS6? Or if I'm fine waiting for PC releases for Sony's first-party games, is there really any reason to buy another PlayStation at all? How much do you think players like me factor into Sony's boardroom discussions? I know PS5 sales are great, but I imagine there are plenty of people like me wondering the same thing. Thank you for writing in, Jonathan. If you're a PC gamer, I really have no and you're like happy on PC.
3:13:15I don't know why you'd buy a console. Pretty much everything will is either immediately available or will become available to you. It's very rare for there to be a notable console only game. Like. Even even even console exclusive games come to PC. and so I can't sell you a PlayStation right like you're going to have to kind of figure that out on yourself now do you want to wait you've waited this long I mean and it's especially true if like if GTA is not pulling you GTA will come to PC so if you're willing to wait and it's probably going to murder on PC and if you're willing to wait then just wait I mean there's so many games to play if you want to be part of that zeitgeist or you're the not knowing when it's going to migrate it might be a few years even I doubt it though maybe a year something like that they're probably way i appreciate their discipline in saying like let's make this work on more closed ecosystems first and make sure it's good and then we'll port it but i'm sure that that's an there's an eagerness to get that done because it's just enormous amount of money it's also another boost for them i mean take two is gonna make an enormous amount of money some other quarter um intergalactic will come to pc no doubt and like you said it'll probably get a native ps6 port as well it might even come out so late that it comes out on both consoles at the same time who knows um i hope not i hope that's not the case so my personal opinion chris we'll go to you first is someone like jonathan who plays pc had his ps4 but now realizes that those games aren't really locked to ps4 anymore you can't sell them a playstation i mean you gotta you gotta if money's tight i wouldn't even think about it personally yeah yeah i mean people people look for different things like i like the the comfort and convenience of a console And I also don't like to be I don't like to play games generally at my desk where my PC is.
3:15:06I know some people have living room PC setups. I've tried that before. It just never it was never that elegant. And so like I just kind of gave up on that. But if that kind of thing doesn't matter to you, if you're fine with like, oh, you know, I just got to update my drivers again for the 90th time. and that's not enough to pull you away then like yeah i mean stay on pc pc is a great platform with a lot of uh flexibility like you'll eventually get basically everything um and if there's something you can't wait to play well then that'll that'll be different and that'll maybe be your your call but like colin said like you've you've waited this long i think you're i think you're a you're a PC guy and that's fine yeah are you a fucking nerd and a dork are you a glutton for punishment do you like sitting in your chair shrimping in front of a keyboard yes okay but that's but that's who you are I do shrimp on the couch though sometimes like if it's if if particularly with like if I'm playing any like anything that's remotely pvp or like competitive I'm like you know like the hunch where it's like I'm taking it seriously now dude when I when I'm playing the drums like i become self-aware like and i like click in and i start thinking and i'm like dude my face is an inch and a half away from the snare drum yeah you know you become a fucking apostrophe like holy shit sit up god just sit up even when i go for my long walks i find myself like at the end like just leaning over like a like a fucking old hag oh god dustin where are you on this yeah it sounds like jonathan is already a very patient gamer and he's been fine waiting for these exclusives on pc this entire generation what would make the next generation any different so now i do think it's he says uh how much do you think players like me factor into sony's boardroom discussions i think that i don't i don't know if it's most but i think that a large portion of gamers that are on pc that want playstation those games they're just not going to be patient and they're going to buy a PlayStation and not wait.
3:17:29So Sony can kind of have it both ways. They can have their exclusivity that draws people from other consoles or from PC just to play those games. I'm sure there are lots of them. And if they're not able to to win you over on the console purchase, then they still get your money anyway when the PC version comes. So really, I'm sure they would like to have you on PlayStation and have you get a PlayStation plus subscription and would like to you know have you there but they know that some people they they cannot be moved from pc and so why not meet them where they are even if it is a little bit later they'll still get the money with a 30 rip to steam but still that's that's money nonetheless yeah i think betting against i just i was gonna say i think betting against the patience of gamers is a smart bet yeah you know like like most games sell in the first day or a couple days and that's true for every single thing like so if you have patience you're you're uniquely powerful in the space because like you'll eventually if you don't give a fuck about that kind of thing like you're you're getting away with robbery basically like you get like getting us getting things on a steam sale where it's just like oh this used to be this used to be 80 bucks now it's 10 and you don't care you're in a you're in an upper echelon man oh my god it's true that yeah it's true that gaming is only a finance intensive hobby if yeah if you just haven't zero patience and by the way i don't blame you so i'm not i'm not judging you at all i was saying a few weeks ago like i've never been a price sensitive gamer even when i was totally broke so i mean that goes to show you how like every dollar i made would go to fucking video games like an idiot and beer and weed.
3:19:14So I'm not going to sit here like it wasn't all those things, but eating, I would usually just go to the dining hall and then with Tupperware and take a bunch of food. They loved that. They loved when I did that. Yeah. Dustin, you had brought it up earlier to Jonathan's question, like, is he a factor in boardroom discussions? Yeah. They want to make$49 a game off you, and that's what they're doing when they sell you a$70 game on Steam,$49 in their pocket. They know that they're not going to get you, and in some way we were talking earlier i mean you don't want to over judge this but there is some benefit to not having you on playstation in the sense that well they don't incur the cost of you being there right and streaming a game or looking at 10 trailers and all these little pieces of chip damage that actually run their costs up but that said they would rather you be there than not but there is like some sort of small advantage there where they can take advantage of it and say like okay you're probably kind of out and therefore we're just going to sell you the games there um i have never had as you guys know i've never had a problem with the pc approach for playstation i just i think that people are overestimating the the residents of pc gaming with a lot of console people i think that pc gaming is this mystical unusual thing to a lot of people still including people like me and they don't want to play a PC.
3:20:36So there's always, but so I don't know. I just think people inevitably think like everything's going to go to PC and I'm like, I don't think so. Like what my, my, my, I think everything's going to go to a screen ultimately. Like, I don't, I don't think it's going to go to a PC. No. That said, I think that Sony needs to figure out if they could court more people over and maybe they're happy with just the way things are they're also not making that much money on pc games as we've noted i think last year wasn't it last fiscal year was only three i mean only in quotes 300 million dollars gross on pc game sales that's not that good like the last of us part two made substantially more than that by itself just the game then like all of their pc releases selling that year so it's like so i as i've said many times at this point i think they kind of are having their cake and eating it too and i think they're feeling it and i wonder if they in their different war games if they were like this was going to have a much more debt we thought this was gonna have a much more detrimental effect on our business it actually really isn't because i just think people are where they are where they are and this is something xbox has been saying for a long time speaking of which shepherd commander wrote in said hey cdc with all the chatter lately about xbox being dead in quotes as a console maker and the console war being over, over, over, over, over, over, over, over.
3:21:59I wanted to challenge that narrative a bit. Christopher Dring recently wrote an article called, quote, The Console War Isn't Over, end quote, where he argues that while Xbox may have lost ground as a hardware manufacturer, the real quote unquote platform war is still being waged across services, ecosystems, and where people actually play and pay for games. He points out that Microsoft's strategy, putting Xbox services everywhere, owning seminal brands like Minecraft, Call of Duty, Elder Scrolls, halo warcraft etc and focusing left on less on hardware sales means the battleground is just shifting not disappearing i'm curious what do you guys think about drinks take that the old console war is just being replaced by a much bigger multifaceted platform battle and then xbox is still very much in the fight just on a different front would love to hear your thoughts keep on keeping on dustin let's go to you first what are your thoughts here there's definitely some truth to that absolutely where just look at how much playstation plus has changed and evolved over the years and how important that is to their business and getting people up in the ranks and yeah it points out microsoft with owning the biggest ip with minecraft call of duty stuff like that um but i guess it's different when we think of the console war we're thinking about specifically hardware sales in the platform and so i guess it is true that it's shifting i'm just trying to think like in some ways though it's like if xbox doesn't have the platform the console wars will still exist in that there will be playstation and nintendo and some version of PC that we'll see in the future, whether, of course, Microsoft's next console and Valve decides to step in.
3:23:46So the the wars will continue. But there is some truth that the platform war is growing. I'm well, Chris, let's get you on the on the record here. What do you what do you think about this whole situation about the shifting sands that the console race kind of finds itself on? Is Microsoft actually ahead of the game? i i mean i yes but not in the context of a console like i i ultimately feel like microsoft is in a really good position actually because i think in some ways having having to manufacture hardware look you get the benefit right you you get 100 rip of all your first party games you get you get a a massive uh rip of every third party game sold in your sold on your hardware and sold in your ecosystem that's a massive benefit but also you do have to incur the cost of r &d and of manufacturing of bidding on chipsets and like all the headache that goes into creating hardware and so in some sense as we move into the future where we all know eventually we'll have like like eventually like it's crazy to me that resident evil 4 remake runs on a phone you know at whatever frame rate that it is like 30 or whatever like that's crazy that that's true and so eventually you will have a machine that is small enough that is powerful enough to give you like modern fidelity kind of experiences that fits on like what could be considered today something as small as like a you know a ram stick that fits in a screen somewhere you know so eventually these machines will go away and you know it's in some ways probably a benefit to not have to worry about that kind of thing and only focus on you know making software that will sell that you don't have to incur this crazy cost um and so in some ways they're ahead but i just don't think it's in it's in the in the context of fighting sony because if anything now microsoft is kind of a huge asset to sony because they're the biggest publisher on playstation at this point you know they're making a lot of money they're selling a lot of games like halo is going to sell like crazy on playstation and that benefits both of them but like it doesn't benefit the xbox hardware and so it's weird like i don't i really don't know how i feel about it because like this these rumors about like a new xbox being you know this kind of hybrid pc thing that actually is appealing to me because it's the only thing that you could it's the only way that you could sell somebody like me an xbox which is like if you just sold me a normal xbox where it's just like okay you're gonna get all your first party stuff and third party stuff here but that's it like that's no i'm gonna be on playstation where i know sea of thieves and halo and all these things are going to go and i can play god of war day one and you know gta and all that stuff but if there is this kind of hybrid model where i can get all my storefronts and i have like a living room like like a pc setup for the living room that isn't cumbersome and is convenient as a console is like that's kind of cool but that's going to be mega expensive because they can't rely on those like high rips of of sales that that they know that they're going to get from each sale of a game on on a console that is sold right because you're going to have access to you're going to have people who buy that machine who may never interact with the xbox game ecosystem maybe you know it's possible that you don't but it's also possible that you do so that machine's going to be crazy expensive so i don't know if it's going to be competing in the same way with sony on the same marketplace like it's i can't imagine a new xbox in that capacity where it's where it merges storefronts being less than a thousand dollars like honestly like earnestly at this point like the way everything's going i don't i don't know how you do that i just i just don't see it yeah um maybe it's possible but maybe 900 or something but it's going to be like a uniquely expensive option in comparison to like you know where where consoles are presumably going to go and where even you know switches and you know presumably where the next playstation will be um where they're talking about it being less of a crazy leap and more about like how you're going to interact with it i don't i really don't know i i don't view this as another fight in the in the console wars i think the console wars are pretty much over in the sense of xbox versus playstation but as ecosystems and as platforms yeah they could fight eventually but like right now they're kind of symbiotic at this point at this stage that may change over time and i wonder how playstation is going to react to or if they will even care if xbox makes a machine where steam can be playable on it and they know that there's an xbox out there that can play god of war yeah i don't think they give a shit yeah i just i really don't think i don't know why i don't know why you would um that's why we said that at the time when people are like maybe sony will figure out a way to either remove the games from steam or stop them from working and i'm like why would they do that like why do they give a shit that do you have any idea how much of a win that is your your hardware is playing our games and you get nothing yeah we get we get the money you know it's like it's it's almost absurd it's like what but that's why do you do you agree with me though that like the the cost of that machine will probably be very high because they can't rely on like every sale of yeah software on the on those machines being like going to them they will need to make the profit from somewhere else yeah exactly this is the i mean you're right Chris, because this is the conundrum behind the entire thing.
3:29:04Like there are just certain things that people have to explain for this machine to make real sense as something other than an off ramp for Xbox players to, to salvage their collections, their achievements or whatever, and move it into PC in some way, which I think is, and I said that on Twitter, I was like, this is a great pro consumer move. It's not going to be a big seller by any stretch of the imagination, but it's a good move. Like it's, it's about the friendliest thing you can possibly imagine to do for your audience as opposed to just disappearing, which is the other option. And I'm not saying as an entity, but rather as like a hardware manufacturer.
3:29:34It's like, all right, this is kind of Xbox will exist and the consoles will work for a period of time. But this is kind of frozen now. They're not doing that. And I think that that's good. But I think you're absolutely right that not only is the machine going to be more powerful because it's a PC running Windows, they're not going to make many of them because there's not going to be a demand for many of them. So they're not going to get the economy of scale that a console gets. The machine is going to have to be inherently, like we said, more powerful. And then it's going to have all these shells over it.
3:30:01Well, like the Xbox shell. So it's going to be a pretty beefy thing, I think. And and like you said, if an average person spends five, six, seven hundred dollars lifetime on a console and it's probably higher than that now, you're not going to get that from them. So you have to get it from somewhere else. It actually kind of that's why, you know, it's an off ramp move and why I think it's a pro consumer move, because there's no real commercial reason to do it. Like they're not they're not in the game to sell eight million consoles, which is probably like what this thing will sell. Right. at most in its entire life.
3:30:33If it really is what they're framing it as, this expensive thousand dollar plus PC rig, they're delusional if they think it's going to sell very much. But I think the bigger questions, again, go into the systemic issues around what they're trying to do, because it's not only about Steam and Epic Games Store and all these other things, and it's like what you're saying is like, so it's just unprecedented. I don't know what people don't get about it. Like, here's our console. It's an Xbox console. here's another storefront totally doesn't make any sense at all it doesn't work and people like it's very pro-consumer and i'm like yeah it is but they make nothing on it and then the bigger issue is this and this is the next downstream thing that i think a lot of people don't think about if you're a publisher and you're like okay we're figuring out our skews how we want to divide this up and like divide our resources up the new xbox runs steam why do we need to make an xbox skew and then slowly you realize that this microsoft is like this their own storefront that they'll note that the game the new xbox will have their own storefront it's just not going to force you to buy from it it'll be robbed of games because i think rightly so publishers are going to be like like we literally don't lose anything by not publishing on xbox now because people can just and they're and they're mostly most of them are going to go to steam and buy the game anyway and then you have the problem like i said of buying xbox games on steam it's almost and it's like so you're gonna have a console and then give 30 of the money to another met like another storefront it's fucking for your own products it's a fucking mess it's so it's so crazy to me that people are not like seeing this for what it is it's a mess that's why there has to be a real intention they're not stupid they know that this doesn't make sense i think if you're not to salvage what they can and get those people over to windows yeah and we'll see what happens but i could be wrong you know i i think that's pretty pretty sad i think it's kind of i think it's cool honestly to me it's so it's so weird like it's rare that we get something that strange um happening in this industry like it's it's been pretty predictable for like for many cycles now like you know you kind of get an idea of what nintendo is going to do you kind of get an idea of the oh the playstation and the xbox are going to be kind of the same uh with like minor differences they're gonna have obviously different first party offer this is probably like it's first real moment in time where like these machines are going to do genuinely like completely different things and that's kind of exciting but it is undoubtedly this is going to cost a lot it's going to be again less of an economy of scale kind of machine and it's going to appeal to really like only like really i'm curious as to who this appeals because i'm in that rare market where like Like I have a lot of old 360 games that are backwards compatible that I do want to salvage that are really like, like they're all on my machine.
3:33:22And it's a bummer. Like I probably would have gotten the ROG LIX if it actually played like Xbox games. It's kind of crazy that it doesn't. But that actually would have I wouldn't have minded necessarily. It's a hefty, expensive bit of kid. But being able to play all my entire 360 library like on the go, like that's kind of that's not unappealing. but like I wonder how many people are even there's maybe like maybe like a couple million maybe like three million people like that you know and I'm not saying that for many stats or anything I'm just like guessing yeah sure yeah I there's two things to say in parting on this it's like I'm sick of people saying that like well PlayStation is going to get out of control without competition and all this kind of stuff and I'm like that's such fallacious and weird argument arguing like they have competition it doesn't mean like like microsoft's existence in the space is not like the only form of competition that playstation has ever had they lost like how much does the competition stay around and do the same thing over and over again and get it's shit kicked in it's like it's in other words people act like it's like there's no other competitor nintendo's not a competitor pc is not a competitor and there couldn't be some other dark horse an apple or someone getting involved at some point like it The competition doesn't have to come from one place.
3:34:43And the other thing is that I think it's – I would love to know the actual number of Series S and X units sold because it's got to be fucking bad. Like, I think it's actually worse than anyone thinks. And the reason is because did you see their new financials? They released new numbers or whatever. If you go in from – This is starting in quarter four of 2022, their fiscal quarter 2022, right? This is the percentage of year-over-year revenue up or down on Xbox consoles. over the last 16 or so quarters. You ready? Imagine what this number must be. Negative 11%, up 13%, down 13%, down 30%, down 13%, down 7%, up 3%, down 31%, down 42%, down 29%, down 29 down 6 down 22 down 29 that is fucking staggering understand that that's not say that's not starting from a baseline it's starting from the previous the previous quarters baseline over and over again so you're down 13 then from there you're down another 30 then from there you're down another 13 like and so on and so forth it's not a cumulative thing it's that's that number has to be vanishingly small at this point.
3:35:58Yeah. And so you can't blame them for wanting to change things. But I just think, and it goes back into the original inquiry, it's like the level of marketing that they've put around these decisions is so disingenuous and why they just need new leadership. It's just not working. And it comes off as fake. You didn't buy all of this shit to do this. We were all there. We all know what you said. We all know what the plan was. It failed. Happens, happens in corporate world every day, but usually heads roll, strategies change, marketing changes. You say different things. All of that's true, except for the one big thing, which is the same messengers.
3:36:41And it just, I just can't stand it anymore. Like seeing these people getting interviewed and saying, just speaking out of all sides of their mouths and just all it's like we don't we're not even competing with other video games it's like yeah no shit we see the sales of nintendo and playstation you're not competing with them at all true enough but trying to like and it's true that everything is is a time is that is that picari sweat it is how dare you sir wow that you're that that stopped you that really tracks that was a stun lock yeah because it's like it's just weird to see that you know in the way we get it ordered once a month on Amazon.
3:37:17Nice. Yeah, it was a total stunlock. You're right. I got stunlocked. But I just feel like just own your shit a little bit more. It's sad. And I don't know how you would massage it. I don't know how you would do it, but I know it starts with different people. And I wish them the best. I think you're right, Chris, that this is kind of stumbling into something that's good, but it's not what they wanted. And it's not where the maximal amount of money could have been made so for them that's got to be soul crushing the idea of not of pretending that from their perspective that controlling hardware and the in and out of games for millions and tens of millions and potentially a hundred million more people is not a valuable thing is is what the kids might call cope and oh yeah no 100 it's it's their only option and so it's you know it's them finding the the silver lining of it which is they will be the biggest publisher oh yeah absolutely no doubt and they'll make a fuck ton of money you know but it won't be it won't be like 360 era like you know you're raking it in and that's what's crazy about it man it's like uh it's just so crazy that it's it's it's that different than it used to be i could i wouldn't have even remotely imagined that it would that it would be so different you have to understand like ps3 was like uh at the end of that at the end of that light cycle they they they finally came out on top but that was like even going into the next generation looking forward to the xbox one and playstation they were still like before those reveals like they were still pretty on par with one of the people loved the 360 so much that they didn't care that it that it was like a sickly machine that died constantly like that's crazy like if it was any other machine like it would have probably failed really hard but like people just loved that ecosystem so much.
3:39:07It was that unique and weird and interesting that people were like, yeah, it died. I love it. It's kind of crazy. Yeah, but it is. And now just the sheer. It's so crazy. It's so interesting. But on the other hand, it's like, yeah, I just want to be clear. It's like the corporate world is bloody and brutal and like you're not going to sit here with a straight face and tell me, yeah, our plan was always to sell our games on our primary competitors console and give them 30 % of every game we sell. That was always in the plan. yeah no aren't you stupid what are you fucking crazy we're competing with tiktok it's like come on man yeah come on man come on man finally izzy smalls wrote in and said hey colin wokiardi chris ray gun control and dei dusty now that ghost of yote is out are you ready for the anti-woke mob to target intergalactic next how much do you think sony cares about the alleged boycotts and backlash is there a part of you that wishes the protagonist was a generic nathan drake clone to keep the mouth breathers quiet anyway i love the show and props for emasculating that d bag what are you talking oh thanks what does that mean like what kind of sexual thing is this supposed to mean yeah yeah um oh he's coughing you shouldn't i really you're really fixated on me right now are you con so i like that i love the fact that he he he coughed and muted himself intentionally to not distract from the show.
3:40:29And then I'm just taking a drink. I'm taking a drink. I'm trying to mute. I mean, Colin, I'm sorry. You said earlier we were getting closer. Yeah, we're getting close. I'm starting to notice you like I'm married to you. Wow. OK. All right. I am worried about this. Yeah. And I think it's going to be pretty insufferable. Yeah. Now, whether or not it's going to matter is another thing entirely. Don't believe the hype. like about the last bus part two, for instance, like it did just fine, you know, so I don't know if they're just like leaning. And it was, I think even going to be was worse for that game, arguably, especially with all the leaks and shit like that.
3:41:10And they ended up making hand over fist money on it. And it's a fucking huge seller. I do think it's going to be an insufferable lightning rod of quote unquote anti woke sentiment. I think we all understand the game's probably going to be great. ultimately we need to see what it is and um i might have more information on the game in a few weeks i have to go through some stuff that i've received but um i just feel like yeah yeah this is the obvious next target and do i wish that it was a nathan drake clone like kind of like i wonder if they think that right it's not a matter of what i want i want to see what they want to give me so what i'm most curious about is like what they think like oh should we have just made this like a generic character and i'm like no but why there's a lot of telling on oneself about this game i think about the level of offense over it to what end why the level of what would you call it i was gonna call it like sexual dysfunction but that's not really the right term it's like this idea that everything needs to be fucked like every character every like everything it's like come on man like what are we doing like why what is wrong with everybody it's just i've never in until i became aware that this was an argument people were having in the culture war and like the brain rot stuff i never went through life i got into my 30s let's say until i realized like oh well people really have a problem when the character's not attractive and to me i'm like that's just the character that's the person it's it's just a person it's It's a story about a person or a thing or whatever.
3:42:54And sure, there are fantasies where everyone's handsome and everyone's beautiful. And that's awesome. I love beautiful people. But I don't know. So I'm girding my loins for this one. I think it's going to be bad. But I don't know if it'll matter. And I don't know if do they care? I would imagine they probably do. I assume they're going to have to have a strategy. And by the way, I'll remind everyone they knew before they announced it because they locked the the comments on the naughty dog publisher the video so they knew yeah i hate to say it but their gut instinct about it told them was right uh chris what do you think should they have just made a drake like character to keep this because otherwise there would be nothing controversial about this if not for that character nothing about it would be controversial yeah but that's yeah that's that's in and of itself kind of anti-art though isn't it sure i i just i don't know man i think whatever they want to do is what they should do and that's that's how i've always felt about kind of all of this like i don't really if you want to make do you want to make a story about like i'll criticize it for like the merits of what it is like if it ends up being like bad or if it ends up being fantastic like great or you know bad or whatever it's it that is what it is that's on the merits of its own thing but like i i never liked the idea of uh having to satisfy an audience out of fear of being like bullied out of making a decision like i or even early stuff with um i remember i don't know the games exactly but like i remember there was a trailer for some game where it was like it was like some traditionally like hot character or whatever and then they they it was like a trailer or like screenshots and then later on they covered her up and it was kind of like oh why'd you do like i kind of felt like are you was that like a response to the same kind of like weird vitriol or whatever where it's just like oh she's too sexualized or whatever i think that's lame i think i think the artist should do whatever the artist wants to do and that goes for the reverse like if you want to make a character that's specifically not sexualized and not like meant to be this fucking you know eye candy i think that's totally valid too i really only care if the game is good you know that that really should be anybody's concern um does anyone expect the game not to be good that's the funniest part you're gonna deprive yourself of this game okay i don't know i mean look i'm not i i i haven't played it obviously the trans the uh what do you want to call it the not the transcript what the what the the word is the track record oh crazy uh the track record the transfer the track record of um of donny dog has been pretty solid so far even the stuff that i don't like gel with as much like things like the last of us part two i i acknowledge that that's like a really well put together game and it's it's well done so like i can't imagine intergalactic being less than good you know that's kind of where i'm coming from i don't know that for sure we haven't played it it could be like this you know Things are great until they're not, you know, so like it could it could very well.
3:46:03It could be like a complete failure, but like until we play it, we don't know. So like I just don't get the the obsession over how fuckable a character is or whether or not a character is black or white or a woman or a man or I just I really don't get it. I've never resonated with it. It just doesn't. It doesn't attract me if you want to make a game about a white guy, go do it. People are doing it. you know it's not like there's no shortage of it like i feel like you had immortals of avium and you didn't buy it that was the whitest game that ever existed basically it's a incredibly you know and then you still i don't know man it's just it's very i also can't help but feel and i really earnestly feel this way that like a lot of the stuff that's happening now specifically and but not the stuff that's happening but a lot of the games that are coming out right now that are controversial if they came out in 2005 no one would give a shit i can almost assure you like like uh fucking i remember there were there were people complaining about um in uh warhammer uh what is it space marine 2 the oh they're a female one yeah that they were female uh uh what is it um i don't know what they're called the soldier type characters right so yeah the yeah the space marines there's yeah space female space marines i guess yeah it's say that i forgot but uh what are they called again holy shit i was afraid i was afraid that that would be too generic and i would be like that can't be it but no it is um people were complaining about like oh there's a there's a black space marine there's like a white space marine meanwhile we had years of war in like 2005 no one gave a shit cole was in there no one gave a shit that dominic santiago was hispanic like no one these all of this is so obviously transparently manufactured that i it's impossible for me to take any any look of it seriously and when i do try i just end up in these spaces where like the only conclusion that i can draw from this is either you're a tourist you don't actually pay attention to this space you're not fixated on whether the games are good or not so like why does your opinion matter and then also like what's really motivating this other than and i hate to say this but like i feel like what what is motivating this other than actual like stereotypically like almost parody level sexism and racism yeah i mean i agree i I told at some point it has to be that I don't, I don't throw those words out like lightly.
3:48:25I, I don't, I feel like I've probably said those words maybe in the context of like levying them out, maybe like maybe five times in my entire adult life. But I mean, I just don't know what the, I don't know what other logical conclusion there is. I agree. If I'm calling you racist, you must be racist. Yeah. Right. I'm so bad when he's saying like that, you know, I'm the one calling your raises for Jesus Christ. Yeah. It's like, I can't remember. there was like a i think it was like an snl comedian where it's just like uh they said someone was like you know how bad you have to be at politics for me to notice you know i always i always think about that quote because i'm like yeah man i should i don't care about this shit at all and even i'm like bro i don't want to be seen with with these people so i don't know it is what it is i guess but it's definitely crazy and it's going to be bad with intergalactic undoubtedly it's already predictable you can tell i can already see the thumbnails and the titles and In my mind's eye, I see it.
3:49:21Just got a brace for it, I guess. Dustin? I think... So I have a few thoughts. I think in some ways, Naughty Dog hasn't done themselves any favors in this department. I mostly think of like, you know, Last of Us 2 has a lot of the things that this crowd does not like in it to begin with. and I you know whether you like that or not I found it to be totally fine and realistic within the story it didn't feel like I was being preached at um the last of us tv show I think is really fresh on people's mind that was incredibly cringy with some of this stuff at points most notably the i'm gonna be a dad part you know just like yeah i get it uh i get it with that absolutely but at the same time with this game based on recent events that we don't need to get into and i think i said i mean i said this i think years ago on the show is that while there is the uh the the woke mind virus right uh which i think that is a quote-unquote real thing but it is a thing that people become obsessed with their ideology right yeah absolutely absolutely they they totally are full in it's not only the most important thing to them but it is everything who they are and so that gets called the woke mind virus to people on a certain side and just as much there is an equal anti-woke mind virus that that becomes all-consuming to you the the other side of it and the sad part is izzy smalls brings up now that ghost of yote is out um seeing how people have interpreted this game i think it was you chris that maybe you said in our staff discord like we live in a post-truth reality yeah yeah where it it does not matter what the content of ghost of yote is at all uh people have decided what kind of game ghost of yote is whether they they've played it or not, or even, even if they've sat and watched, maybe if they have played it or watched the whole game on a let's play, like we were talking about earlier, that a decision has been made that this game is branded this way.
3:51:42This, uh, you know, Atsu is a girl boss. They replaced our masculine figure with a female. And, uh, it's bad. It's just bad. You know, it's funny that it's like, it's been dead for 300 years by the time. I know. I know. It's just like, it's so go ahead, Chris. You know, I was going to say, it was really funny about it. It's like, uh, Jin Sakai whines so much more than, well, he definitely does. Or the Nazi does. And I, and I like, you know, I like Jin Sakai, but it's like, it's very funny because it's, I don't know. So yeah, people have, I mean, he's asking like, is this the next target? It's not the next target.
3:52:21It has been the target since that first trailer came out. And to be completely fair, this game could come out and, be quote unquote super woke to a way that we find annoying it's absolutely possible and if that's the it's that's what happens then absolutely we'll call it out as being annoying and preachy if that's the case right but i yeah go ahead chris well i was gonna say the only thing that's even remotely triggered that line for me was uh uh what is it dragon age when when they had the like the the conversation about being non-binary yeah that shit sucks yeah exactly exactly Yeah. And we've talked about this before, but I'm just like, it's not even so much the concept.
3:53:03It's just like you're using words that like this doesn't make sense for for people in this world to speak this way. It doesn't. Because the idea of like a, you know, like a kind of like a nebulous gender, like that's that's ancient stuff. Like that goes back. You can pull from so many interesting phrases and spiritualities and interesting things that like make that case. but instead use the word non-binary which is like so it's so twitter and so modern that it just it completely it just completely rips you out of dragon age or whatever and so like yeah i mean intergalactic could be like written really poorly and like you know who the fuck knows maybe but i it's just so great i feel you know what's sad is that like people are excited to feel that way people are excited to be angry and people are excited they aspire to be cynical and they aspire to be upset by something that they haven't experienced yet and i just i don't i don't understand why do you why i don't want to be upset by anything i want to like most things that i play me too i'm upset enough as it is like with just everything in my life it's like what do i need to like have games upset me too um yeah or entertainment no i i totally agree with you it is crazy i um i don't know man it's it's a frustrating thing like you had brought it up earlier with with just dragon age this is kind of the bummer i have with and i remember saying this about that guy grums for on the show a long time ago it's like the space needs better messengers that are less ideological because to call balls and strikes as it were because there are there is weird shit and it does need to be called out and in the in the let's call the woke quote-unquote woke part of things or whatever like you said with dragon age like that sucked i was making fun of mafia with it's a gay pride flags 20 years before gay pride flags were invented like that kind of shit it's like this is this is so true or the uh the crazy shit in uh um kill the justice league with like it's like what are we doing like this shit sucks it's so ham-fisted and inelegant and And we were even talking about it with Assassin's Creed.
3:55:06And I don't want to project on you guys, but I do think it's weird that there's like a black main character in the Japanese and Assassin's Creed. I do. I also we've talked about in the past. It's like even Neo being about that guy, William Adams. It's like, yeah, it's kind of strange, but at least it was a Japanese studio, you know, like and so they kind of made the decision themselves. But to me, so I guess what I'm saying is like there are racial, gender, sexual elements of games that are like this sucks. Remember that game Dustborn? that quantum yeah it's like that shit sucks you know yeah um and it's boring it's capital w woke you know and so yeah it should be ridiculed for that but let's not get carried away i just think the way that people reacted to to what's that guy in neo the white guy william adams uh the way that we all the way that we all react to that is the way that people should react to a lot of the stuff where it's like oh weird I'll see you next time.
3:55:57you know and that's kind of like i don't know i just i feel like it's so unser serious like i I remember like, what is it? The I remember there was a whole thing about like the Puerto Rican flags and Miles Morales. And I'm like, I mean, come on. But then again, I agree with you there. But then again, Spider-Man, like it's like those are I think the insomniac is a woke studio like you can tell. And it's like that's going to be in their games. But are the games not great? I mean, yeah, I'm a little tired of some of the messaging, but I'm not fucking that aggrieved. It's like, dude, not everything's message remained for you either.
3:56:27And you're allowed to disagree with things, too. So I just wish that people were more selective because I think that there's a lot. And we've talked about it in the past many times on the show, really the racial and gender and all that kind of problems. There's really a lot with the way people talk about each other and treat each other in the industry, hiring practices. It's like these people are just not they're not complex thinkers like they can't get past the facade of all the distraction. And so it is what it is. But yeah, I think Intergalactic is going to be in a little bit of trouble with this.
3:56:53And I'll be very interested. I think we're going to see the game at the VGAs. that's my my uh yeah prediction and i'll be interested to see how they show it and i'm sure they're very gonna be very deliberate about it do you think it's next year do you think uh it's gonna hit it that'll be awesome for his next fall but it seems like they have some things like stacked up already with saros in the spring and then wolverine in the fall i don't know if they yeah in their recent finance in their recent financials they're trying to say they're trying to get like what one to two triple a games out i don't know did i say financials is that what you're laughing yeah i was what is it uh sean connery yeah sure financial
3:57:32all right let's get the hell out of here it's time to go it was a good episode though appreciate it actually i think defining duke would have been longer this this week rare but they got a lot to talk about yeah they sure do they sure do the show's doing great so i'm proud of them um all right let's go around the horn and say goodbye to everyone chris goodbye to you be well have a good rest of your day any plans uh not really i gotta i gotta clean up a little bit you know it's not really dirty but it's like messy yeah messy yeah i i my place is often messy as well and it's like it's better than dirty but yeah it's got to be a little cluttered and yeah it's it's getting annoying so probably gonna just do that more yote i guess tonight nothing crazy cool very good dustin goodbye to you the elusive man gonna smoke chain smoke some cigarettes when we're done oh i wish dude sounds amazing why why do cigarettes have to be bad for us yeah i know why haven't they made the good cigarette the cigarette that's good for you put science on that dude maybe we can make ai make the healthy cigarette that'd be great all the people who got fired all the people who got fired for making vaccines can it can work on making a healthy cigarette.
3:58:42Right, right. The healthy cigarette, yeah. Nothing crazy for me. I need to run out to the store because I got to buy Dragon Quest 1 and 2 for Holly. Okay. So I got to pick that up. Yeah, we were talking about it. Something like the Switch 2 version is a game key card, which is not ideal. But the Switch 1 version, there's no upgrade path to Switch 2. So I don't know. I don't know where I'm going to buy it what I'm going to do, but I'll do that. Probably some Ark Raiders tonight. Check that out. And that's really about it, you know? So just a chill weekend ahead. And I guess it's Halloween, so I don't have any parties or anything.
3:59:26I'm just going to be chilling at home. Yeah, I mean, I haven't been to a Halloween party in years at this point. I'm old, tired, outclassed on these Halloween streets. Yeah, no big plans. Just watch football tonight. hockey's on tonight uh ease into the weekend i have a meeting tomorrow about our next game at lilymo which is exciting um to figure out how we're going to announce it so that'll be interesting and i'll be on summon sign we're recording tomorrow as well um so still a bit a few more things to do before the week's over and then uh yeah just hanging out and i'll be interested to see what you guys think of dragon quest one and two those are old favorites of mine oh yeah holly Holly is now totally Dragon Quest pilled.
4:00:08She played all of 11. She played Builders 2 and she wants more mainline Dragon Quest. Oh, and she played 3. 3 HD. So she wants more. She wants to wrap the story up with 1 and 2. Alright, very well. Nothing else too crazy going on. I'm going to go for a walk after we're done here. It's been rainy for days and now it's finally sunny. Get a little air. Be out there amongst the people. I don't know. It's time to go. I'm so tired. All right. Thank you guys for your time. Good to see you as always. An old piece of games industry lore has recently reemerged, and it has people wondering about a tantalizing what-if. Back in 1999, The Matrix hit theaters, and the co-creators of the film happened to have been huge fans of Hideo Kojima, himself a year removed from the launch of Metal Gear Solid. And, as was reported at the time, there was potential that Konami would allow Kojima to pursue a licensed Matrix game post-MGS. A lot of new information has since emerged about what did and didn't happen here, and it makes for a great conversation starter. So let's lean into it, shall we? Our conclusion: Perhaps Kojima doing MGS2 instead of a Matrix game means he likely dodged a bullet (pardon the pun). Other news this week includes some quiet updates seemingly being made to PlayStation Portal's functionality, leaks from Bluepoint's cancelled God of War game, the most recent China Hero Project title in the form of Loulan: The Cursed Sand, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Following Freedom Wars, Patapon, and Everybody's Golf, what should Sony's and Bandai Namco's next collaborative re-release be?
