In short

Second Thought (Suzy Weiss and Dana Dute) covers weekly pop-culture hot takes: Sydney Sweeney’s Times Square billboard ad for Novig, the 2026 Emmys, AI’s acceleration on math, a TikTok “plane meltdown” about a man refusing to help with overhead luggage, and New York’s $60 Austrian-style luxury bread.

Guests

None. The episode is hosted only by Suzy Weiss and Dana Dute.

Key claims

The Novig ad (Sweeney nude except for sports equipment; tagline “just sports”) is framed as targeted at “incels” and not “female athletes,” while critics on both left and right are mocked. The Emmys are portrayed as dominated by the little-known show “Widow’s Bay,” with Matthew Rhys’s accent criticized as “stolen valor.” OpenAI’s Navier-Stokes breakthrough is treated as hype that may doom mathematicians. The plane incident is argued as a simple chivalry failure, not entitlement. The $60 bread by “Martin Ayer” is treated as absurd but “art,” with mock outrage and tasting reactions.

Get runway ready for The Devil Wears Prada 2 on Disney Plus and Hulu. Rated PG-13. What privileged, elitist, tone-deaf asshole is actually going to spend$60 on a loaf of bread? Let me tell you what elitist asshole would buy that bread. No, you didn't. No, you didn't.

0:44Welcome back to Second Thought, your place for hot takes on popular culture and a healthy dose of unpopular culture. I'm Suzy Weiss, here with the wonderful Dana Dute. Hello. Here to talk about the biggest stories of the week, of course, including Sydney Sweeney and her latest ad campaign. the 2026 Emmys winners, AI Meltdown, New York luxury bread loaves, and much more. Dan, are you ready to get into the stories? Absolutely. Well, Dan, you were shirtless, I believe, on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia this week. I was, yeah. Everyone check it out on FX and Hulu. But shockingly, people are not talking about that topless moment in media.

1:25No, they're not. I was upstaged. You were upstaged, but you were upstaged by the best ever do it. Sydney Sweeney is in hot water yet again, this time over an ad for a sports betting app called Novig. The commercial features Sweeney entirely naked, except for some well-placed sports equipment. And the tagline of Novig is just sports. There's a line in the ad and she's like, no politics, no deaths, like no current events, like just sports, just sports. Like I'm hot is basically the idea. it's on a massive billboard in Times Square I don't know if you saw it outside and it's triggered a massive culture war freak out Dan, did you see the Novig ad?

2:04Many, many times It's awesome You think it's awesome? I mean, yes, I think it's awesome and I know a lot of people are freaking out especially a lot of female athletes are saying this is not what women in sports looks like That's not what this is Right, they're not betting on women's sports No Let's be real Just like a stripper isn't about women's dance. You know what I mean? Like, it would be like if a ballerina from, like, the Royal Ballet in London was, like, furious at Sapphire at Flash Dancers. Like, that's not real dance. Like, yeah, you have different audiences. This ad was for one demo and one demo only.

2:42Dana Dude. Yes. And it worked well. You're just like, let me bet on Novig right now. It is meant for incels who are living in their parents' basement, spending all their DoorDash funds on some sports gambling and giving it to Sydney Sweeney. Here's the thing. In 50 years, we're going to be, did you see Sydney Sweeney? She's naked again with medical equipment. It's like, how many times are we going to do this? We've done it five times. I will buy the Sydney Sweeney pacemaker. Yeah, the Sydney Sweeney pacemaker. Has your heart stopped? There'll be like tube socks full of loose change by then. at that point I mean it's all gravity is undefeated as I like to say but I don't I don't begrudge her from picking advantage of her incredible body as it is said if you got it flaunt it and get some equity as you're doing that and also it's like she's doing like the it's like the highbrow version of OnlyFans in a way you know what I mean like she's really vertically integrated her body in a way to profit off of it in a sexual way, but like in a cheeky sexual way.

3:54Right. I didn't find it like vulgar. I mean, it was definitely risque, but it's interesting that there's kind of been the people on the right, because Cindy Sweeney is coded right, who you might normally say, oh my God, this is so immodest. This is, you know, demonic, even godless, are defending her and saying, you know, she's, you know, a gorgeous blonde woman in line with, you know, Pamela Anderson or Marilyn Monroe. And then the people on the left are like, how dare she? This offends me as a female athlete. When the female athletes, there was like a gymnast who started posting pictures of like, it's blood, sweat and tears.

4:30It's like, oh, it's not about you. Well, also females aren't betting. It's all just teenage boys betting. So like, that's the only people that we're appealing to in this ad. Right, it's like, it's not even like the women can be like, you're not getting our money anymore. It's like, yeah, that was never up for grabs. Yeah, you're not dumb enough to bet on sports. Right, right, exactly. This is for stoopy boobie boys. Yeah. Boys like boobie. Stoopy boobies. Stoopy boobie, they love it. There's even like, I mean, there's like a part in the commercial where she says like sports like 10 times in a row and it just keeps showing different angles.

5:03And she's just like hypnotizing these. I was going to hypnotize. And I'm like, I'm perimenopausal. And these, I mean, if you're a 17 year old. How are you not losing your mind at this? Here's who should be offended. Men. Men should be like, hey, you can't just, oh, where do I put the money? They can't even get that they should be offended. They're like, I like this. I like when she put the football on her boobies. Oh, that's alarming that that works so well for you. And now that you're going to gamble away your child's college fund because, I like it. I really like that. Grow up. Good on you, Sydney.

5:46We are. We're pro-Sydney. We're pro-Sydney Sweeney. I don't know if we're pro-sports gambling. No, it's going to. Now I'm going to turn into like Scott Galloway. It's a generation of men are going to be homeless crackheads because of sports gambling. Yeah, exactly. It's not good. I thought I'd be able to date Sydney Sweeney if I did this. I bet$10 ,000 on a turnover because Sydney Sweeney told me to. Every summer, I rediscover that my body's preferred sleeping temperature is that of an industrial freezer. Anyone else? I was sick of flipping my pillow every five minutes, so I finally switched out my whole sleep situation for Cozy Earth, and I really don't know what I was waiting for.

6:26The rib-knit pajama set is incredible. It's best worn after a full day of sweating in muggy New York City to feel instantly refreshed. There's a lifetime warranty and 30 days of hassle-free returns if something's not right. Head to CozyEarth.com and use my code SUZY, that's S-U-Z-Y, for an exclusive 20 % off. That's code SUZY for an exclusive 20 % off. And if you see a post-purchase survey, mention that you heard about Cozy Earth right here. Here's the thing, Dan. I did not watch The 78th annual Emmy Awards on Monday night because my dear co-host was snubbed for his guest appearance on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

7:13I cannot believe they overlooked your generational performance. Thank you. As a, what was his name? What was the AI? Mitch. Mitch. Yeah. Come on. What is this? Do I have range? I have range. Range. I play someone named Mitch. And you dare to do some nudity. I go shirtless With no equity With zero equity It's always sunny I think I lost a lot of work because of it Did you like do 100 push-ups before? No, you know what was really insulting Is that when I auditioned for this role They didn't ask me to be shirtless And the whole punchline of the thing is My shirt comes off And they thought I was going to have a great body But I have a schlubby body And so then that's how the scene ends And so I was like Oh, that's the joke within the show Yes, and I was like Hey, did you guys just assume I have a shit body?

7:59Yeah, yeah When you gave me the role? They're like going through, they're like, oh yeah, no, this guy, it's going to be majorly disappointing when he takes his shirt off. Well, did you watch the Emmy Awards? I watched, you know, clips of it. I watched what I needed to watch. Matthew Rhys, Kerry Russell's husband, swept. Yes, he did. And actually, I have a bone to pick with him. What is it? Well, here's the thing. We're in this age of everyone needs to play their religion. They need to play your race. If you're on TV or in movies, you can, you know, it's racist. Just if you do, I'm sick and tired of these people not playing their accent.

8:35Oh. When these guys. He's Welsh, I believe. He's Welsh. I thought he was like a Connecticut dude. I know. And then he like goes to accept his award and he's like, oh, brilliant. Thank you so much. I'm like. I know. They're always British. It's American stolen valor. It is American stolen valor, but it's one of those things that you can't care about representation because the best actors are British or from the UK or wherever the hell Matthew Rhys is from. So you just have to accept it. You have to be like, all right, everyone should play themselves except for this thing because we really need them.

9:05They're so good. But it's almost like men in female sports. It's like they're so much naturally better at it that it's almost unfair. We should have a British Emmys. Yes. A British Oscars. There should be a - They're in their own league. There should be a separate award for British guy playing American. I mean, the headline here is that this show called Widow's Bay dominated the night. It took home 14 awards. I'm in the industry and I haven't heard of Widow's Bay. Okay, no one has heard it. I watched it last night. Oh, how was it? So I mean, I really liked it, but I was just sort of like, what is this show?

9:40It's like 10 years ago, this would have been like prestige. Everyone's talking about it. Was Succession the last show everyone watched? I think so. It was like, it was Game of Thrones led to succession. And then now it's like Widow's Peak. Widow's Bay. It's a bad name. I've never heard of it. I don't think, I've never heard people say like, you got to watch this. It's like, it's like winning an Emmy now is like being like, like having a high, like a restaurant with like the highest Yelp score in a town I've never, I'm never going to go to. Right. Exactly. It's like, oh, good for them. Yeah. But then I feel nothing about it.

10:13Is it elitist BS or was it actually like entertaining? It was interesting. Yours is actually kind of cool. It was a homody. Homody. Okay. Ladies and gentlemen, we'd like to take a break now. Because I'm having a stroke. Because there's a stroke. Here's what's up, though. It was a horror comedy. A homody. Also known as a homody. Not that. Or a corer. A corer. A corer. It was a corer show. No, it was a homody. And I think that's like a really interesting mashup. I love those mashups. Because horror and comedy are very similar anyway. So why not just put them in the same thing? What makes them similar?

10:47Because it's sort of like there's like a punchline or a scare. Well, it's like the thing that you think is going to happen doesn't happen. You get a redirect. Oh, yeah. So one of them redirects you to fear and one of them redirects you to laughter. Right. Yeah. But they're both kind of like they're there to surprise and delight. Yes, exactly. It's the shock and awe of it. The Shaw? The Shaw. The Shaw of the homody. It's the Shaw of the homody. I don't like when all of the awards go to one show. Oh, really? Yeah, I like when it's like a mix. Oh. The Pitt also won. Classic. Takes place in Pittsburgh.

11:20That's your people. That is unfortunately my people. Yeah. It's like nurses being like, I'll kill you. I will kill you if you attack me again. Seriously, I'm going to call the police. I'm going to, I'm going to, wait, that's Boston. What's the, but it's probably, you're playing, you're a British actress. Yeah, I'm a British actress playing Boston because I'm confusing it with Pittsburgh because it doesn't actually matter to me. Right. Because the whole thing is shot in Hollywood. Hey, it's the Rust Belt, baby. Is Noah Weil British? Oh, my God. I hope not. What? I can't handle this. I want one of them to be like, he's got an Indian act.

11:52Like, he's Indian, and we just had no idea. Right, right. Jean Smart, thank you very much for the award. Thank you for the Academy. Wow. Yeah, they're always secretly British. They're never secretly Israeli. Right. They're never secretly Australian. Well, except Nicole Kidman. Yeah. She is. Yeah. Good catch. Good catch. Yeah. she's the only one though yeah and she they are really trying to make practical

12:24oh you're you're good you got this yeah you got this actually stick to landing it's actually like it's starting to feel like like volunteer work like for on all of your parts that you're letting me do this this is turning into my own little homody right now This is a hominy. This is a hominy. Practical Magic 2. You know when the words just want to come out all at once? Practical. Yeah, Practical Magic. That's so sad. Practical Magic 2 with Sandra Bullock. I don't even really remember Practical Magic 1. I don't care about that. Okay. What I do care about is, what's her name? Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift.

13:05She gets us the clicks. She was in the Emmys. Taylor Swift, Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift, Taylor Swift, Taylor Swift. Wait, I actually didn't watch this part. She did a thing with Mariska Hargitay. What kind of name is that? Mariska Hargitay? Mariska? Mariska Hargitay. I don't think it's a weird name at all. We love you, Mariska. Nothing about that name is odd. Mariska Hargitay. There were 10 of them in my kindergarten class. She does actually a very funny sketch about is Taylor Swift going to show up to the Emmys or is she going to be at Travis Kelsey's game? Wow. And she did it as a law and order thing.

13:41And then Taylor Swift is in the sketch as her, as not herself, as like another, like, like a detective. Oh, that's really fun. It was pretty, it was pretty awesome. Actually. I liked it a lot. I do like when Taylor Swift is like down to clown a little bit. Yeah. And poke fun at herself. Anything else to say on the Emmys besides your snub and the fact that it doesn't represent any sense of collectivism anymore. There was a, there was a nice tribute to Dolly. Oh, there was a nice tribute. And I'm sure Catherine O 'Hara. Catherine O 'Hara, nice tribute. What's his name? God, it must suck to die the same year as Dolly Parton.

14:17Yeah. Because she really is going to sweep. God, I was, you know what I was saying? If I died today, would I make it to the In Memoriam? No. You don't think so? I don't even think if you died before your It's Always Sunny episode came out this week, they would have acknowledged it. I don't even think that episode would have been like in memory of Mitch. What? Why do you say that? I played Iconic. I played I played Fluffle Phil. I gave so much joy to people. That's true. That's true. Holy shit. You know what episodes of shows are dedicated? The glee that you just took in me not getting acknowledged by my peers.

14:53Those are your peers? Yeah. At the Emmys? Yeah. Oh, my God. I'm sorry. I was thinking about it more like, oh, if I die, do you think the Nobel Committee would put out a statement? It's like, well, no.

15:09holy cow i mean i would not be acknowledged oh my god i don't think i'd be acknowledged by my family this is this is my origin story right here i'm gonna sweep the emmys next year because of this conversation you're gonna become british pen to paper just like write 30 scripts i'll show her i don't know how low is the bar holy fuck not only did you not think i'd make it you didn't think I'd make it to the in memoriam that's like another second grips make it onto the in memoriam like a PA but a big movies the second grip I mean you have to oh my god you have to have been on a crew that really did something there I'm sure you'd be in memoriam on like YouTube okay okay yeah that's better than I wouldn't be in the memoriam for anyone I would I would remember member you.

15:57That's what I'm trying to say. Me. You don't need the Emmys. You have Susie. You have the Susies. The Susies. Okay, let's move on. Okay. AI. What? What?

16:16This has been a big week for artificial intelligence. And I would just like to say at the outset that this has now become over my head. But we'll try here. Okay. Everyone seems to think that AI will soon take over our lives if it has not already. That AGI, artificial general intelligence, when that artificial intelligence is able to sort of self-correct and spin up its own agents without any human intervention, is on the horizon. And pure mathematicians, that group, that sturdy group, might already be doomed. Last week, OpenAI said that it had sicked tens of thousands of agents, 10 ,000 agents, on a math problem that had gone unresolved for 90 years.

16:57It's called the Navier-Stokes problem. And the reward for solving it was a$1 million prize. And OpenAI just kind of came out and said, like, guys, we did it. And now there's all of these math professors sort of staring down the barrel of their own extinction. And there was one Cornell professor who told WIRE that he's really terrified of what AI will do to his field. And he was brought to tears discussing it. Dan, would you think of... Boo-hoo. the math nerds can't out nerd chat gpt yeah it's true get in line with the rest of us like you think you're better than us like it's coming for all of us you don't think it's going to come for two plus two equals four right of course losers of course right but can you imagine like being the best at something and then it's just like nope machine ahead of you i mean the mathematicians are just yeah exactly what you said facing the exact same feeling we've all had our entire lives yeah I also love that like people are using AI for like these really high level things like solving the mysteries of the universe.

17:56Yeah. I feel like I just use it for more and more dumb things every day. Right. Like how dumb can we go? I took pictures of all my clothing and put it into chat. No, you didn't. And I said, can you give me outfits? Are you serious? People are using this to solve these problems. And I'm like. The millennium problems. I'm like, does black t-shirt go with brown pants? Their solution showed that an initially smooth fluid can develop a singularity in finite time in three-dimensional space. I don't understand one word of that. Cool, cool, cool, cool. Does this belt go with these shoes? My Navier Stokes is, does this scarf make me look gay?

18:31Yeah. And the answer is yes. That's my Navier Stokes. And the$1 million answer to the Millennium problem is absolutely it does. Absolutely. The solution showed that an initially smooth fluid can develop a singularity in finite time in three dimensions. I mean, they're just screwing with us at this point. That's just, that's just pretend. What do you mean fluid? We're talking math. Why is there fluid? Why is the word fluid in this? There shouldn't be fluid. That's true. That would gum up all the math. Yeah. There's no water in math. And don't use fluid like a metaphor, you fucking, you're math idiots.

19:03I don't think it's a metaphor. What, it's actual liquid? No, it's saying something is fluid. Like gender fluid, but like math fluid. Like it's fluid. It could be this, it could be that. This is like the Tucker Carlson thing where they're like, why'd they put numbers in the geometry? Like that doesn't seem like real math. And we here at Second Thought are humble enough to know water probably does belong in math, just not math for us. Math for us stopped at like parabolas. Yeah. That's where the buck stopped for old Suze. By the way. I wasn't going to get past that. That's where it should stop for all of us.

19:42What the hell is the point of the Navier-Mungier fucking formula? Navier-Stokes. Who cares? Oh, did you really need to figure out what this number is going to do if you put in all these complications? Become a hedge fund guy. Go make millions of dollars, bro. So I'm fine with all this. Yeah. No problemo, Navier-Stokes. No. The thing, though, is... I'm stoked that for Navier... I'm stoked. Oh, I'm stoked. For Navier... We have to make a t-shirt. I'm stoked for Navier. Navier? I don't know how to pronounce it. Oh, my God. One person in the world will get it. And then they'll see it and just, like, burst into tears.

20:21Because they'll be like, nobody cares about us. Yeah. We're mathematicians of the highest level. Yeah, yeah. That's how the AI frontier labs talk about their own work. They sort of talk about it like the New Manhattan Project. you know, the last invention, the last new technology. And I feel so out of my depth in terms of what is actually happening. I'm conscious of being spun. I'm conscious on one day. It's like, okay, the EAs are bad and confused. And the next it's like, well, do you want these five billionaires to have it? And do you want China to win? Like, I could tell I'm being, there's a PR spin going on.

20:58Honestly, I'm so, I'm hedging at this point. Because if they're right, and the world is about to end, you don't want to die with money in the bank. Right. I ate two cookies at the airport lounge the other day because I was like, well, what if it, you know, what if it happens today? Yeah. And I don't want to like be in the fiery hell of the AI overlord and be like, why didn't I eat the second cookie? I hear you. And it's good to hedge. And unfortunately, you can't bet on this on Novig. Yeah, just sports. Because Novig doesn't do. It's just sports. It's just sports. It's just sports. Just sports.

21:29No war, no AI. And no deaths. But all these AI nerds now are saying that like, we have to like, we have to pump the brakes a little bit. Like we're going a little too hard in the paint. Yeah. I think Elon Musk said it. Dario Amadei. Yeah, the Italian. The Italian guy. Yeah. Luigi Mangione is calling for an immediate pause on further frontier AI development. And I say, no, don't stop. Get it, get it. All the way. All the way. Ruin all the mathematicians' lives. You know why? Because do you think China is going to stop? Is China going to put guardrails? I know. What was their lesson from giving us all COVID?

22:07They really do be spreading these things. They got nothing. There's no consequences. You think they're going to put a stop to their Timu AI that they're building? No. We got to beat them. We got to beat them. But then doesn't it become like a race to the bottom maybe? Just like another arms race? I still want to win it, even if it's an arms race. Yeah, it is going to be an arms race. I would like to get to the bottom first. I want to win it. New Millennium Prize with a million dollar reward. find a scarf that Dan would look masculine in. Yeah, please. I'll upload pictures and you can AI them and give me that straight scarf.

22:40People upload pictures of like rashes and like that I have not, I've not crossed that Rubicon. Oh, really? People do that? Yeah, it's called All of Us. Are you serious? A hundred million percent. It's the best dermatologist ever. What? Yes. I went to the dentist today and they took like a million pictures of my teeth and I was like, you can't post these anywhere, guys. It's like, let's keep these in house. Can I tell you something crazy? What? I'm going to the dentist after this. Stop. Stop it. I swear to God. I have full body chills. I'm spooked. I am spooked. I'm spooked like on Widow's Bay.

23:13I got a perfect bill of health. Really? Yeah. I have to do like one little thing. Oh, okay. Great. Where are you going to your dentist? I'm going to Dr. Orin Ramanan, shouts out, to get trays for whitening. Oh, you're doing advanced dentistry. I'm getting whitening trays. I never know what to say in the dentist. And I always say the wrong thing. What's funny is my dentist, Oren, is a friend of mine. He is a huge germaphobe. And I'm like, you're in the weirdest line of work. Are you serious? Yeah. He's actually a germaphobe. He's a huge germaphobe. Aren't mouths like the most disgusting, horrible place in the world then for him?

23:46Yeah. I don't know what the hell he's doing with his life. Is he always like, oh, we're just going to need to fill this cavity like this, like disgusted? That would be awesome. Yeah. I'm whitening my teeth. I'm blackening my hair. I feel like the older I get, I get that thing about how, you know, it's like when women go on dates, it's like they're already 300 bucks out the door just to get their hair and their Sephora and all this stuff. I'm getting that now. Like I'm understanding what it's like to be a woman. The upkeep. The upkeep. The upkeep. The Botox. The threading. The threading. The hair color.

24:20Now my teeth have to get like. Manicures. And I have to pay for this date. And I have to pay for this date. there should be a thing like after you turn 40 you split the bill you split the bill we're both dealing with the same shit here's the thing i don't think ai is ever going to put us out of a job because they can't be this stupid you can't what's funny is ai can solve nars and norsen but it can't figure out this chemistry the novo nordus how about this can't figure out chemistry this fluid chemistry this is fluid we're flowing i'll give you fluid you fucking math nerd oh my My God. Congratulations to the team at OpenAI and all the mathematicians whose prompts they probably stole from to get to this conclusion.

25:01I would just like to know, and I really have not seen any explanation of whether solving this problem will do anything for us on like a sort of practical level. The funniest part is that there's a million dollar award for winning this. And all these nerdy mathematicians who probably make like$10 ,000 a year, like spent their whole lives getting this and ChatGPT won. open ai is like oh million dollars yeah yeah oh yeah it eats a million dollars for breakfast it took a million dollars to tell you which belt to wear today yeah we will be right back with more stories from unpopular culture every summer i rediscover that my body's preferred sleeping temperature is that of an industrial freezer anyone else i was sick of flipping my pillow every five minutes so i finally switched out my whole sleep situation for cozy earth and i really don't know what i was waiting for the rib knit pajama set is incredible it's best worn after a full day of sweating in muggy New York City to feel instantly refreshed.

27:29Dan, we have yet another meltdown on a plane. So there is a woman from Hawaii who was on a plane, and she walked onto the plane with her carry-on luggage and asked the man behind her to help her hoist the luggage up into the, you know... Overhead compartment. Yeah. Objects made have shifted during flight. And the guy said, no, I'm good. And she was like, you're not going to help me? He's like, no. Whoa. Didn't help her. So she posted a video of herself on TikTok. Not as it was happening. No. Okay. Saying like, this guy wouldn't help me. Like, this is crazy. And the internet went ablaze. And a lot of people were telling her that she's an entitled da-da-da-da-da.

28:09And like, you wanted to be equal, so this is what you get. Oh, come on. And a lot of women are defending her. Like, I come on the side of like, first of all, if you're a guy and a woman is saying, please, can you help me do this? And you say no. But I just find that that's just like an opportunity. That's a layup for being a gentleman. That's just like, oh, this is so easy. This is like reaching a high shelf in the grocery store. Guys don't care about being gentlemen anymore. Also, we're a little bit scared. Like, I'm scared whenever I'm on the subway sitting down and I want to get up so that a woman can sit down.

28:37I'm like, is she going to like pull out a camera and say, look at this guy, this monster? Andrew Tate over here I mean I do think It's hard when you are a Content creator Like this young woman is Because the most socially taboo thing You could possibly do is make a video About something that happened That breaks through Offering someone a seat on the subway Offering to hoist their bag It's so much weirder To then call someone out Or like invite people to have a commentary about something that happened that's the ultimate weird thing and we live in a world where that happens yeah and it should not but also all that doesn't mean that this guy shouldn't have helped her which he obviously should have what's going on these planes last week someone uh he had to get duct taped to his seat like men on planes no people on planes are losing their mind when i put my carry on in the overhead bin i'm always like all right 50 chance chance we all make it out of here without a concussion because i'm like it's so hard i'm like it's like swinging around i'm like i'm gonna do it myself but you're putting yourself at risk i actually hoisted someone's luggage up last week you did not all heroes wear capes but some of them get whitening trays for their teeth yeah i helped this lady yeah i made a meal of it i made a little joke oh yeah if i knew how heavy it was i wouldn't have offered you know i did one of those i feel like you should get 15 delta miles if you help someone put we need to monetize the chivalry i i think we're both social people there's only so many opportunities you get to interact with a real stranger yeah you know what i mean oh oh please do you want to sit oh do the luggage oh were you in line all of those opportunities to like commune with a fellow human being it's like i'm never gonna miss one right you know what i mean yeah did you want this it's like all that stuff i love it We're in the minority, though.

30:32We are. Most people think that we're the lunatics who... Who are talking too much to strangers. You know, it's funny. I've gotten so... From the last time I had a corporate job, I've gotten so, like, just, like, frightened of, like, complimenting a woman. Oh, yeah. And I... Well, you really should keep it above the shoulders with that stuff. I said, wow, what a fun skirt to someone in the free press offices. And I was like, oh, God. Is this my last day work? Take them out back. you said what a fun skirt well i wanted to be like what a nice skirt but then like midway i was like oh god wait that might and so i said fun right what a fun skirt and it's a little like fun yeah that's like being like that shirt is so boxy on you and it's like okay well all right nailed it what a fun skirt okay but i do think like on the spectrum of um doesn't help a woman or acknowledge them at all.

31:30You are far on the other side in that you notice these things and apparently are offering women Ubers to dates. 100%. I would never expect that and I probably wouldn't accept it just because it's like the logistics seem complicated. No, it's very easy. Give me your address. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Right. Right. You just never know where you're going from and sometimes faster to take the train. You know what I've been doing lately? Subway. the woman has her baby in a in a what are those things called stroller dad thank you uh baby pushing mechanism yeah um and i'll offer to help carry it down oh my god yeah that also i've offered and like tumbled and like it's really they're unwieldy and the kid is in it the kid is like flipped over well i'm usually the front guy so the like the you know the little kid is like staring at me as I'm bringing it down.

32:24Yeah, of course. And then I give him a little cheek. A little kiss. A little kiss. And then to the mommy. Okay, we are definitely in the minority. This woman on the Hawaii flight said that this gentleman was not exhibiting aloha culture. Yeah. Which I think we can all agree on. He was not exhibiting very good aloha. Very not aloha. Etiquette. No. That was not very aloha of him. More like anoha.

32:52and it sounds like we are very aloha me and you we're pretty aloha but we're just hams we'll take any opportunity we're just here's the thing we on the outside we're offering to help on the inside it's like acknowledge me give me attention like do you think i'm charming do you think i'm nice charmers charmers gonna charm but it is yeah but we're really we're groveling

33:12dan tell me about this special set of brit there's a bakery called rye in downtown Manhattan that is making a loaf of bread for$60. Cheap. $60 for a loaf of bread. They're saying it's from Austria. It has Austrian pedigree and it's the only Austrian ride that my grandfather used to make. And the sourdough is from Austria. Everything's from Austria. The Austrian baker is called Martin Ayer. Yeah, Martin Ayer. All vowels in the last name. What privileged, elitist, tone-deaf asshole is actually going to spend$60 on a loaf of bread. Let me tell you what elitist asshole would buy that bread. No, you didn't.

33:54No, you didn't. Are you serious? Oh, my God. Ladies and gentlemen. Oh, my God. I got it. I went. Oh, my God. Buy, Martin Orr. First of all. Oh, my God. Buy. Like, it's a painting. Look at the Birkin bag it comes in. Oh, my God. It comes in another bag. Oh my god! Look at that! Okay, ready? We're gonna take it out of the bag. This is a$60. Oh, that's a nice bag. $60 loaf. We should keep that. Do you smell it? Look at this, look at how the - Wait, now it's another bag! Look at how they tie it. Oh my god, it's like a diaper. Oh my, holy shit. Okay, here it is. Holy shitters. Oh my god, it's leaking.

34:47This is, I mean it looks like a big ginger snap. Yeah, it does. Oh my god, it's like a frizzy, oh it's a thousand pounds. You need a crane, how do you, okay. Look what I brought, I brought some butter. Oh my god, Dan. We're gonna try this. Should we just put it on the raw table? $60 bread, yeah,$60 bread. Okay, first of all, it's giving cake. It's very thick. I mean you're supposed to like cut it very gently and whatnot, but let's just get into it. Yeah, let's just get into it. This is actually becoming a food show. Why is there fireworks coming off of this thing? There's no integrity. The bread is not sticking on the bread.

35:26Wait, should we do ASMR? Wait, it's like Michael Jordan doing the thing before a game. It's like, yeah. This is crazy. You can't bring this into your house. Oh my God. This bread has pollen. This is crazy. Okay. Imagine you brought this to dinner. or you're ruining carpets. You're like... 60 bucks! Ready? Ooh. Smells... I like it. I actually think it's fabulous. I think it's very good. I think it's very good. But 60 fucking dollars is crazy. Look how big it is, though. What are you talking about? Damn. 60 bucks? You could be eating this for a week. This could be breakfast, lunch, and dinner. That's 60 bucks.

36:11They did say that it stays good for like a week. Guys, I actually don't think it's crazy. Are you crazy? You're nuts. There's something like spelt-y about it. Do you taste that? Is there like a spelt aspect? This is wild. This is so crazy. Look at the back. Other loaves of bread orbit around it. It looks like a tree. Like the foot of an elephant. You can ask this for your fortune. I mean, I'm sorry. This is a steal for$60. I'm like going to do an ad for these people. You're crazy. You can read your fingerprints. It has like an age. There's a patina to it. What is this on top? The flower, do you think?

36:51I don't know. The flower? This is my grandfather's. Yeah. I smuggled it. It's the soil under my grandfather's nails. That's what we put on all of the loaves. Of all of like the luxury versions of like fancy cupcake, fancy donut. fancy you know popsicle or whatever in in a cocktail don't you want someone to like put their whole back into a fancy loaf of bread it's so elemental i get what you're saying but to me it's like we're lining up for expensive things in new york city right now they're staples like ice cream bread yogurt right right like any other if someone from like 1910 like time travel to now and saw all these people waiting on lunch.

37:39It's a literal bread line. They'd be like, oh my God, the war must still be going on. Right. It's like, no, no, they're paying$60 for that loaf. They take their shit seriously. You know what I mean? Like, you just put the BMW of breads on the table. I'm not going to be like, that seems silly and overpriced. It's like, yeah, no, no, respect. Respect for the game. They are the best bakers in the game. And I love when chefs get really, like, anal retentive about stuff. Yeah, I get it. And man, when they talk about it, like you think that they're talking about like literal mana from heaven right right exactly like the key to this is to let it rest yeah and sing to it like buddy i gave you my 60 bucks i gotta go we gotta get out of here i was getting my egg and cheese this morning at the bodega right and i'm carrying an egg and cheese on this yowzers yeah and i'm carrying the bag and like there's this puerto rican lady behind me and she's like getting her breakfast which is a roll with butter and cream cheese i'm sorry i roll with butter and coffee and you know how you and i like to talk to get chatty yeah and i'm like and i say to her i'm like oh you know i've never gotten just a roll of butter i usually just get an egg and cheese and she's like oh this is my breakfast i like to have the roll with the butter it's a cultural it's a thing i was like wait that bunny was ordering behind you yeah and i was like can i tell you something crazy this is a 60 dollar her loaf of bread and she goes, Issa,$6?

39:02I'm like, no, no, no. $60. She's like, why do you mean$60? Why do you mean$60? I'm like, it was$60. I'm like, and then I realized that she was like, why would you do this? And I was like, no, no, no. It's like someone hurt. Like, you're confused. Who's this man's caretaker? Yeah. Oh, my God, Dan. What an incredible surprise to bring this hunking loaf, this gorgeous hunk. Isn't that awesome? It's a piece of art. It's pretty beautiful. Yeah. I've never seen bread look like this. All right, fine. You know what? I'll pay double. This episode is dedicated to the Austrian breaker, Martin Ower, who had the audacity to believe in himself.

39:38He would make it to the memoriam at the Emmys. Certainly he would. Not the YouTube in memoriam like I'm going to be on. This bread. There's going to be a black and white picture of this bread. $60 rye bread from New York in memoriam at the Emmys. Thank you so much for watching Second Thought.
