0:25The spoils were shared for these two sides who were hoping for so much more tonight but Tierno Barry his scoring run continues and his goal earning Everton a point to cancel out the opener from James Justin in the first half his first Premier League goal for Leeds United So not much movement for either of these sides ultimately. And Leeds United will take the point in the end on the roads. The final score from Hill Dickinson is Everton 1, Leeds United 1. Great game, great entertainment on a Monday night. Jimmy Floyd, did you enjoy that? Yeah, I did. A game of two halves. First half, Leeds were absolutely magnificent.
1:09And second half, Everton came back. And rightly, they scored. They were a better team in the second half. Lots of entertainment. It was a good battle. Interesting. Not much there between David Moyes and Dominic Calderlewin. A little handshake and that was it. As good as Leeds were in the first half, it seemed that Everton matched them in the second, Jamie. Well, they had to improve. They were so poor in the first half. But credit to the manager. He actually changed the system. He matched up with Leeds. That three at the back and Leeds' wing back were causing huge problems in that first half. and they got themselves back into the game and then he switched it again.
1:46You know, took one of the, I think it was Patterson off, put O 'Brien back to right back, put the extra attacker on as well and it almost won. But it was a brilliant game. You felt the noise, didn't you, of the Everton fans in that second half, willing their team on. The goal came, but they just couldn't find that winner. And David Moyes and Daniel Farker have to settle for a point each. They're winning four now, despite the return of Ilman and Jai in Addressa Gay to the Everton team tonight. And Leeds now just one defeat in 10 matches and another point closer to their aim, which is another season of Premier League football.
2:29So they're up to 26. Six-point cushion on West Ham United. And one ahead of Nottingham Forest. and for a while there they were on the same points tally it looked like on Esquistal Palace ahead of them who've taken just two points from the last 24 and Spurs have been in on such a tricky run of form as well it feels like all those teams are right in the mix along with the Hammers right now and that point was enough to see Everton into the top half just and it's so tight there They're actually, what, only four points from fifth place in what might be Champions League football next season. Five points off the top four.
3:14If they get that home form going, you just never know.
3:24More live football for you on Wednesday. And it comes from the FIFA Women's Champions Cup. Corinthians take on Gotham FC. That's 12.15 Sky Sports Football. And it's taking place at Brentford's GTech Community Stadium. As is the second semi-final, when Arsenal get involved taking on on the Moroccan side, AS Far. 5.30 that one, Sky Sports Football. And as a once-in-a-generation storm hits, former detective-turned-teacher Jackie Ellis investigates a shocking crime in her small town, starring Kelly Riley and Rafe Spall under Saltmarsh starts Friday on Sky Atlantic. Really entertaining stuff from Hill Dickinson tonight.
4:08Leeds really good in the first half and a great fight back from second, as is reflected in these first half, second half stats. You can see that Leeds, with 10 shots in the first half, were right on top, but Everson came back into it with six shots in the second half. And all three of their efforts on target came in that second half, in which they were really on top. found the equalising goal but couldn't quite push for the winner. So they have to settle for a point apiece. Let's get some reaction, first of all, from the Everton dressing room. We can hear from James Garner and the goalscorner, Tino Barry, with Pien Mullensy.
4:46Well, it was an important point at the end. How do you reflect on that performance today? Yeah, I think in the first half, we were sloppy. We wasn't quite at the races, so we had to change something in the second half and the manager did, brought on two subs. And I think you see it in the second half, we were a much better team and probably should have won it. What was the message from the manager at half-time? What did he want to see change? Just a little bit more tempo. We were losing a lot of second balls in midfield, so he changed the formation a little bit. And yeah, he just wanted an overall better performance going into second half.
5:21And after those changes, it meant there were a lot more chances for Everton, one of them falling for you. Talk us through the moment that you saw that opening for the goal. I just see Ghana in the good position for cross and I be attentive and I finish the goal. Talk us through the celebrations as well because there were a couple in there. Before the game I watched TikTok and I see the dance and I say today I need to do this so I'm happy to score again. A fifth Premier League goal for you now as well. Your fourth goal in your last five Premier League games as well. What do you think has unlocked this form for you recently?
6:01You know, I played in Spain last season, so it's not the same competition. I need just to work every day to be ready for the week to score. And yeah, I worked all the day, so I'm happy. It's a point, but how important was that reaction, as you mentioned, in that second half to be able to get something from this game? Well, yeah, you know, we were going into the game hoping to get the three. But, you know, I think, like I've already said, the first half wasn't good enough in the first half. And we needed to react. And that is what we did. So, you know, we'll have to take the point and we'll have to move on.
6:43It's obviously a strong away form at the moment. But how important is it as well to replicate that here on home soil? Yeah, no, we need to start putting in the performances at home as well now. like you've just touched on them we're very good away so we need to bring that form home and start picking up points here Well I spoke to you both last week and I remember you said that you were hoping you were going to get the Player of the Match award the next time that you two were together that's exactly what's happened so if you wouldn't mind doing the honours Congrats with that First one Well done, thank you very much
7:19Proud young man, Player of the Match and the vital goal for Everton. And didn't he take it well, Jimmy? He took it very well. His movement was very good. Came in front of the centre half and he got a really good connection. David Moyes, a little pre-assist. He speeds the playoff, doesn't he, Jimmy, to start with? Yeah, well done to him. Just kept the tempo going. They kept on passing the ball really well. There was a sense in the game that it was coming as well, wasn't there? Yeah, they were having control for a while. And it was good to see that they kept their patience and kept the ball. You see this straight back here, though, Jimmy?
8:01They get into the win, Mac, yeah. Guiyu goes into the space and what he does really well, he doesn't take a touch, he crosses straight away. And then Barry comes across his centre-half and takes the ball really, really well. If you look now, he comes in front of his centre-half. centre-half lets him and he doesn't miss the opportunity What about the finish Jimmy? Is that just about getting your foot or do you think he actually lifts it deliberately almost gets underneath the ball to lift it over the goalkeeper? Well actually he does he does do that I don't know if he really wanted to do that but it's a brilliant finish because the goalkeeper can't do anything about it Let's have another look at it Jamie it's worth seeing I think the quality of the finish I mean this is a guy that's obviously feeling more confident He's finding his way in England, of course, not just in terms of the Premier League, but the country as well.
8:52You heard that from his interview. But with every game, it feels like he's growing confidence. He feels like he can try things like this now as well. What do you think from this angle, Jimmy? You know, you're talking about the finish. You know that so well. Do you think it's... What he does really well is coming across. He changed the pace. If you stop here, now he... Exactly, he goes underneath the ball and it goes over the goalkeepers. Yeah, that's brilliant. that's good striker play you know what I'm going to give not so much the benefit of the doubt but to me it looks like it's not just a toe poke he's actually thinking I need to lift this and maybe not necessarily over the goalkeeper but maybe make sure I actually take the defenders take the block out the way and goes high from that close if it goes high the goalkeeper has no chance we have to give him the benefit of the doubt it was a wonderful goal and it was very well received by the Everton fans as was the celebration or celebrations we should say because there were multiple from this young man.
9:50With every goal, there's another little twist. Needs to go on strictly. There you go. Oh, well, wait. I love that one. Yes, you. And then this. Cool head, lads. And then there's the team move. Hat-trick of celebration. So, come on, Jimmy. You're the dancing specialist here. We need you to judge the actual dance move in the middle of that. I give him a nine. I give him a 10 for the goal I give him a 9 for the dance but look, come on you score, you have to celebrate you have to take these moments enjoy these moments and that's what he's doing well done. I give him a 7 give him a 7 not like Craig you know the brilliant thing about that is when we watched him the first half of the season you almost fell from it he almost looked shy you saw that in the interview as well But what I'm saying is, that's confidence.
10:49The celebration is confidence because he scored four in five games. At the start of the season, you're looking like a boy who'd come from Villarreal, didn't feel like he fitted in really. You almost felt sorry for him, you know, watching him play. But do you think that type of celebration, that only comes with sort of a confidence and an arrogance? Personality is coming out. What is good about him, he worked his socks off. He works really hard. Now, does everything come off? No, but he can get better at the simple things, you know, the combination work, the holding of the ball, when to go into the space and when not.
11:25But the good thing that he has, he's got a nose for the goal. You know, he's got four and five. This goal he took really, really well. He's going to score more goals. He needs to work on the other things of the game. Brilliant finish and earned his side a point tonight after James Justin had given Leeds United the lead in the first half. And we can hear from him now with P. Mullinstein. It's a point, but it's an important point in the Premier League. What's your assessment of that performance today? I feel like we started the first half pretty well, although in the first 10 seconds they got a corner.
12:01But overall in the first half we played quite well and went a goal up and had a few chances to make it more, but didn't take them. And then obviously they're a decent side and established Premier League side. So, you know, coming away to a place like this, they're going to have their spells. And most of the second half we were defending and in the end, we'll take a point. Let's talk about that first half because it felt like Leeds were really in control. What do you think worked particularly well in that opening 45? I just feel like we had trust in the way we were playing and we had a bit of confidence coming into the game.
12:35it also helps having longer to prepare for the game which we had but it's just one of those things there's ebbs and flows in football and you just have to ride the wave when you can You did get a goal in that first half just talk us through it when you saw the opportunity for you Yeah well I got a bit of stick from one of the coaching staff because he says I arrive in the box too quick so I thought I'd wait a little bit longer this time and luckily it came off so I've got him to thank for that but yes I'm glad to get on the score sheet but glad we didn't win. First Premier League goal I think for you for Leeds as well how important is that for you personally too?
13:12Yeah I mean it's a big step in the right direction for me I've been playing recently, feeling good, body's feeling good and I'm happy overall. In terms of the difference then in the second half where did you feel the biggest difference was compared to that first half performance? they brought on my mate Keenan he was very good and he was finding spaces in their pockets and I thought they were occupying obviously the 10 spots really well and he made a big difference when he came on and obviously the centre half as well they made a big difference and that's the quality they have and that's why they're an established Premier League side It is just still the one defeat in your last 10 Premier League games since the start of December how important is that though especially with the aspirations that Leeds have this season?
14:00Yeah I mean we're not afraid to talk about our goal and that goal is to stay in the Premier League no matter what and to keep ticking points on the board and keep putting up ones or threes, it doesn't matter to us as long as we're moving in the right direction towards the end of the season. Well done today thank you very much for your time. Six points clear of the bottom three thanks to his goal in a really good first half performance, he played well all night Jamie You'd be interested to hear him talk about the fact that he had to delay his run into the box. The coaching staff said he was getting there too early.
14:30Yeah, it's interesting, isn't it? You know, as I said, there's so many sort of intricacies and details around every position, defending and attack. And we just highlight where he is initially now. As I said, the ball's on the opposite side. It's in the middle and it's going to come to this side. But that's his position there. And also, he's with Dwight McNeil there as well. And when he's talking about sort of getting in there too early, Dwight McNeil actually comes off the pitch because he doesn't match this run listen Everton probably wanted a foul there but I don't think it quite was but we just see right now that has already changed from what I'd highlighted sort of four or five seconds ago so there is the big problem wing backs on both sides caused Everton huge problems right throughout the game not throughout the game certainly in that first half but he times that to perfection and that is probably one of the biggest reasons why Dwight McNeil never came out for the second half Jimmy you talk about timing a run into the box it's definitely not my speciality yeah it's it's very well done from him you talk about McNeil yes he didn't match the run but he's positive Justin and he arrives there and if you don't arrive you don't get these opportunities and he takes it really well Jimmy can I ask you something to finish here because it's interesting he's got a defender convergent and a goalkeeper coming at him almost not to try to almost tackle him but he passes it normally you see players actually just blast that because they see players coming towards him he just passes it if you blast it the goalkeeper has got more chance to save it if you pass it it's harder for the goalkeeper especially that close his fifth Premier League goal his first for Leeds United we were talking about him off there Jimmy and you were saying he was a player that you really admired in that Leicester team yeah when he was coming up when Leicester bought him from Luton you thought this boy is going to be an England superstar and unfortunately he got two really bad injuries but I'm really happy for him to see him back playing regularly and doing well as well because he's a very good player.
16:34Yeah, looks really astute signing doesn't it for Leeds United and he's growing into it very much the more game time that he gets. We will hear from the managers when we return here. David Moyes, I think we could probably assume was not happy at half-time and what a response he got from his team and it was the reverse for Daniel Farker.

19:16Welcome back to the Sky Sports Premier League podcast. Let's get back to the studio for more reaction to today's game. A point for Leeds United on the road tonight. That's nine away games without a victory now. But the unbeaten run continues. Here's Daniel Farker with Pien Mullenstein. Daniel, the point each what's your assessment of that? Yes, overall it's a good result it's a promoted side to come away from Everton it's a tough place especially once they're on it like in the second half it's definitely a good result yes, a bit disappointed because we're also not far away to win it I think in the first half excellent performance very dominant didn't allow chances for them should have scored the second goal also like to perhaps already bury the game than the first half It was always clear, Everton, with the quality that they have on the bench and were able to bring in, they would show up at some point also in this game.
20:13And I think they had more possession in the second half, but the gut feeling was that we still controlled also the game against the ball. We didn't allow much. Karl Dahl over there was one good save before the goal. They had, I think, one header against the crossbar after the goal. But apart from this, it was just a goal. I haven't double-checked it, but the feeling is we still had more expected goals, more shots, more big chances. and we're not far away from winning this game. But in this one situation, we could have invested a bit more in order to avoid the cross-in. And then, of course, Barry was in one step quicker than my centre-back and was avoidable.
20:47But overall, good performance from my lads and a good point also for us. Let's talk about that first-half performance because it seemed like you really were able to manage Everton at that point. What did you think that Leeds did really well at that stage? Yes, we need to control the offensive game. They attack a lot over the left side. They attack a lot over the channels. We were well prepared and didn't allow any chances in this first half. On the other hand, it was important to be brave with the ball, to create situations. The good feeling was we should have scored with the final pass. We would have had even more big chances, but especially Dominic, then with the chance, was pretty close to score the second goal.
21:26Also, Ilya Gruev. Overall, an excellent away performance on Premier League level. and it was important in order to win here at least one point. Well, James Justin got the goal in the first half. How important for you as well to see him getting on the score sheet? Yes, he embodies everything what Leeds United is all about. So top character, diligent, smart player, gives everything, all the things about the team, unselfish, wherever I need him, right back, centre back, left back, right wing back, left wing back. I can always count him in on him. He delivers, it's great to have him. and with his quality he can also score here and there goals sometimes although he's perhaps not made just for goalscoring but it's great to have him in the squad There were of course changes made by Everton at the start of the second half a change in formation as well, how do you feel that your team had managed that?
22:17I think against the ball was not the problem because we allowed them a bit more possession but the feeling was, especially in our half we defended everything really well, we lost a little bit our process in possession would have preferred of course a bit more possession and to create a bit more out of the situation. We had the ball. We still look dangerous out of the counter-attack, a bit better in our possession. To calm the game here a bit more down would have been beneficial. But overall, I also have to say, we are a newly promoted side. It's also normal that Everton, once they are in a losing position against us, they would show up and have also sometimes dominant spells in possession.
22:54So, can't complain too much about it. So, in terms of the actual scoreline then, so you take a point but it is a really important point in terms of the aims that Leeds are looking to achieve this season. Just in terms of your opinion, how important is it? Yes, 26 points. We etched one point closer. It's also good for the confidence to stay another game unbeaten and to show another competitive away performance there. We need a few more wins, a few more draws because we want to stay in this league. This is a major goal. We're on a good pass but nothing is achieved yet. We have to keep going. We have to stay humble, have to work hard and then we have a chance.
23:27Daniel, thank you very much for your time. Interesting thoughts from Daniel Farker. Maybe suggesting, Jimmy, that the problem was not so much the second half and the way that Everton came back into the game, but that Leeds, when they were on the top in the first half and had 10 shots, only had one goal to show for it. Yeah, but you know that in the Premier League there is so much quality. When you're on top and you don't score the second goal, you know that the other team is going to get a spell in the game. Whatever happens, it's going to get in the spell and you have to defend properly. They did it majority of the game, defending properly.
24:02There was one moment that they didn't and they got punished. But I would have liked to see them having the ball a little bit more in the second half and be a little bit more calmer with the ball and calm the game down. They went too quick, too soon for the counter-attack instead of having five passes together and then go forward. But nevertheless, a point away at Everton. I think before the game, Leeds would take that. How do you think they will fare against Arsenal? Do you think they will cause Arsenal problems when we consider, Jamie, from the top of my head, they've played Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool and not lost any of those fixtures, beat Chelsea?
24:48I'd probably look at it another way, on the fact of what we've spoken about with Arsenal. How many problems will Arsenal cause them? I think the nature of the way Arsenal play you know they went to Everton let's say a similar sort of level team if you like they won their 1-0 Arsenal I think if Arsenal are going to go to Leeds and win the game it might be by the odd goal as I said they don't score an abundance of goals they rely on set pieces so I think just through that fact means that Leeds should be able to stay in the game as long as they can even if they are 1-0 down and you know the atmosphere the crowd there what they've done as I said they've done some big scalps there this season so I think it'll be a really tough game for Arsenal I'd expect Arsenal to win, but I could see it by the odd goal.
25:27Would you be confident at this stage saying that they will stay up? Yeah, I think so. It's six points. I think, yeah, there's still 15 matches to go. That's a lot to catch up for West Ham. Six points? Yeah, six points. Two games? Yes, two games. I have to stay confident. I think how they are playing, the energy that they're showing, the togetherness that they're showing. I think if they keep on going like that, they will pick up points. They just have to look after themselves, don't they? I think they've been brilliant. I do. You think of that first game at home, two-way to Everton, the atmosphere, you know, Ellen Road, and some of the football league played their first half.
26:11It's fantastic. So far, so good. They're on course for 40 points, and that should well be enough. Let's hear from David Moyes now with Pien Mullenstein. David, what are the emotions after taking a point today? Mixed, obviously. Really disappointed with how we played in the first half and generally how we set up didn't really work as well as we'd have liked. Second half, much better. Please kept at it, stuck at it. Didn't look as if there was a goal coming, but we got one in the end and maybe a bit unfortunate not to get a second one. You made changes at the start of that second half. What was the message to your players at half-time?
26:50Well, I hoped that they couldn't have played any worse than we had in the first half. Leeds, I thought, were first to more balls than we were. Picked up first balls, second balls. I didn't think we competed well, and it's not like us. And just all round, we just lacked a little bit of something which would make a difference. Obviously, you know, we've got a lot of players on the way back. None of them were fit to start tonight. And I probably went a bit early, actually, on Jared and Kiernan, if I'm being honest. but we need to try to do something and make a difference and I thought the second half of those players came on and did make a difference.

27:23They certainly did make a difference because you've got the all-important equaliser, Tieno Barry now getting his fifth goal of the season. I think that's four in his last five Premier League games as well. Just a word on his form and how that's sort of been unlocked recently. Well, look, if you're a centre-forward, you need to score goals and he hadn't at the start. His play's got better. He's getting a little bit more settled with us. His training's better. and in some ways it isn't always the answer but I think when you're training well and you're getting used to things then you've got a better chance of scoring more goals and he started to look as if he can do that but obviously we need to create more chances we're still trying to get all attacking players back and everybody fit and ready to go again Does it say a lot about your team though?
28:09Of course you mentioned at the start the first half uncharacteristic the way that you played in the first half but to be able to react the way that you did in the second half. Did that please you? Yeah, I'm really pleased, but it's what I expect. Inside the dressing room here, we've got a really strong group who demand off each other. We've got lots of leaders who do my job for me, make it quite easy for me. But obviously the big thing was for us to find a way of controlling Leeds United more than I thought we did in the second half. Really good away form. How important is it to reflect that now on home soil as well?
28:44Yeah, well, look, we've moved to a new stadium. I think I've said a couple of times, sometimes it's never easy when you move. I think there's quite a bit of history of teams moving to new stadiums. It takes a little bit of time. We started here really well. We started the early games really well. We hope we can get back to that form between now and the end of the season. We'll need to keep our good away form up. Just saw as well, when the goal went in from Tiena Barry, was there a little bit of an assist from you? The goal went out, you wanted to get on with things quite quickly. 30 seconds later, the goal goes in.
29:13I didn't even remember it was my assist who put it on, but obviously we were pushing in. We warranted something where the amount of pressure we had in the second half was building up to a goal and we got one in the end. David, thank you very much for your time. Thank you. Good to see you. He stands there right on the touchline for much of the game as we can see when watching this camera 50. Look at him move. Yeah, but that's what Everett needed in the second half. More intensity. They got that from the manager, I think, at half-time. Going from James Garner's interview, but he gets the ball in quick and as I said, 30 seconds later, Tino Barry's got the ball in the back of the net and he's doing his dance.
29:48Might they have won the game, Everton, because in that period after they scored, it felt like the stadium was up, it was rocking and the team had really come to life. Well, they have had moments like that in the new stadium. You think of the Crystal Palace game, they were 1-0 down, come back 2-1, scored late on and I thought this was going to be the same. As I said, having that spell just after they've got the goal, the crowd's up, there's energy in there and there's that intensity that it lacked at a certain stage. and that was the big one, wasn't it? Really, the chance that just hits the crossbar.
30:17But I think a draw was a fair result. Leeds were fantastic first half and Everton were really good second half as well. So, as I said, it was probably a fair result. You can imagine the conversation that would have been going on in the dressing room at half-time with the sports scientists saying, no, they're not ready, David, Brathwaite and Dewsbury Hall. Forget the red zone. They're coming on. I would have loved to be a fly on the wall there. he got them on they made a difference didn't they and we had a really good second half good game what a piece it finished
