0:06Welcome to the Sky Sport Premier League podcast. Game week two of the new season started at Selhurst Park where Crystal Palace took on Manchester City. Here's how the game finished.

0:25so a classy start in attack under Enzo Maresca and this new Manchester City no problem scoring goals tonight and another fine display from Ryan Cherky two assists last time out two goals tonight for the young Frenchman but also two goals for Erling Haaland who continues his fantastic form on this ground after failing to find the nets last time out Donnarumma an own goal so he still awaits his first clinch in the campaign as Crystal Palace well beaten tonight by Manchester City laying down their early marker but for Crystal Palace plenty of worries really under their new manager already lacking players the squad not fully fit and well beaten this evening by Manchester City who are trying to get there start of the season on a roll and it's a pretty good sign so far now Sel has parked tonight Manchester City showing their qualities with a final score of Crystal Palace 1 Manchester City 4 thank you Seb thank you Alan well I think he said Jamie there pretty good signs probably go maybe even a little bit more than that they they look like they had a real control city in that second half didn't they they did certainly after you know Rayan Cherky painted a masterpiece an incredible goal and then they started to play got real a hold on it they brought on substitutions and uh but Cherky was it felt like the difference because those two goals come at such an important time and he just had an amazing effect on the game and it was absolutely wonderful to see him we mentioned before the game about he is a genius the things he can do with a football are just absolutely incredible and obviously harlan getting a couple of goals as well but it felt like they had more control today than they did against bournemouth and that was a really good performance the young players coming on the first chance for the man city fans to see bull adi and i'm sure they really liked him as well.

2:35I mean, you can hear the City fans just a few moments ago, Chances, City are back. City are back. It's not a night where you judge Crystal Palace, really, is it? No, you can't judge Palace on this. They're miles ahead of Palace at the moment. Where Palace want to be, it's difficult to get to that Man City level. City want to be challenged at the other end, and Palace, you know, they're going to be fighting this season. But I thought they were quality City, Man City. And Jamie alluded to it at the start. that's why I would pay money to come in and watch Turkey, I want to be entertained his goals were fantastic, sheer class I thought the second half he ran the show really positive performance from Man City this evening it was a phenomenal goal wasn't it, the dribble I mean we will watch it and we're going to hear from him shortly and then for the next half hour, 45 minutes we'll just watch it over and over and over again only some players can do things like that as he's moving the ball, he's got it on his left foot, then he's got his right foot, and once he gets into the box, you're so scared to touch him, he's going to give away a penalty.

3:40It was absolute genius. We mentioned it before the game, and that's what he brings, and when you think about the current climate with how much players are costing, at 34, 35 million pounds, whatever he was, it's an absolute bargain, you know, and he gives you such a different dimension when you play because he gives you that X factor, doesn't he? You know, he does things differently. Yeah, it'll be, if people are going for over 100 million he's definitely worth that now with the ability that he's got he wins you games Chappers single-handedly wins you games I thought in the second half he took the game by the scruff of the net Adam Morton applauding the Crystal Palace fans as he goes off but both of Manchester City's goalscorers are with Johnny Phillips Erling, you started and finished the night with your goals was that a step up in performance from last week?

4:26Yeah, I think in the start of the season and barely pre-season of anyone. Ryan was for five weeks ago. He was playing in the World Cup. So, yeah, step up, I think, game by game. And we'll be back. You just need a few games, you know. It seems as if the players were really enjoying it tonight. What did you like about that performance? I think we played well. And, yeah, I mean, it's a new manager and all of that. But we've been playing together, most of us, of course, a few new players and that. but we know what to do and we have to trust the system and trust Enzo what he wants us to do. Yeah, Ryan, if Enzo wants you to do that, then you've certainly delivered.

5:07Tell me what was good about your performance today. My performance is so-so because in Frosthalp,

5:18we didn't find the space and I play s***. When I see Enzo won't change me, I don't like that. And I need to show them I won't play, I won't score, I won't give assist for Erling. Because today I didn't give a lot of ball for him. And the next time I want to give him a lot of ball. Well, apologies if anyone was offended by a word or two there. But Ryan, can you just tell me about the goal you scored? The first goal you scored, really quick feet in a closed space. Was that one of your best? I don't know. So when Erling don't give the ball, I give and after it's my instinct, you know. And I'm very happy for the win today.

6:00See you the next week. Just say what you actually mean. You scored two top goals. No, no, no, no. That is nothing. I won't give the ball for him. You can interview him. You can interview him, Erling. Maybe you get better answers. Tell us about Phil Foden today, Erling. He started two games in a row now in the league and he set you up brilliantly for your last goal. Yeah, I think, as I said, we have to keep on playing together and we have to find out where we are best and how to play. We have so many good players, so we have to fit everyone in. Phil has to work harder than everyone else. We have to keep going because we know how good Phil is.

6:39It's about showing it week in, week out. This is the right step in the right direction for everyone. I think Elliot as well was incredible. And yeah, we have to build on this. Ryan, does it feel like a new beginning as well? I know it's obvious to say that in some respects because Pep has left and it's the end of the era. But does it feel like there are players already here stepping up and with different roles? Yeah, of course, with Pep we have a big, big story. Now we start another story and we need to prove all week and we are here for that. Well, they were two great performances. But Ryan, you are the player of the match.

7:16Erling, will you please give it him? It's the first time he gave me assist and the last time. Well deserved. Next time, give me one assist. Well done, lads. They are in very, very good spirits. Although for Ryan Chierke to describe his performance as so... I'm not going to say anything else, Clinton. So-so is all I was going to say. So-so. I think he's being slightly harsh on himself. They're heading to the dressing room. Let's show you what else you've got on this second weekend of the Premier League. Tomorrow, as Saturday Night Football, you've got Spurs against Newcastle. Three games before that.

7:58And then on Sunday, what a Sunday, Chelsea, Brighton, Leeds, Brentford, Sunderland at home to Fulham. Manchester United face another promoted side in Ipswich. and then Monday night football is Aston Villa against Arsenal. So still another six of the weekend games for you to watch here on Sky Sports.

It's time to get more analysis of today's match and head back to the studio. Semenya. Benzied it looking for Haaland.

9:07his first of many i'm sure for this season erling hard and loves scoring at selhurst park foden by shirky oh it's brilliant from jerky again

9:29Cherki in space again given the room talent in his toes do not give Ryan Cherki that sort of space Foden Foden forcing his way through Haaland two goals for Haaland four for City

9:574 for City, they've won here at Selhurst Park by four goals, so I'm delighted to say Elliot Anderson is with us we were saying when we went into the break it felt like you really controlled that it's all very well for us to say that did it feel like when you were in the middle of it you were controlling it? Yeah, I enjoyed it today I think I felt more at home today I've had a few more sessions it's my third game now and I feel like I'm getting better but there's more to come what does it take then for you to sort of feel at home I don't know just touches of the ball I think fitness, getting my relationships with the players knowing them better and I feel like they're starting to build did you have butterflies last week for the first league game yeah of course nervous, I'm always nervous when I go on the pitch but my first outing at the Etihad was pretty special and yeah, two wins from two now so I'm happy and what's been said in the dressing room after that No, just really happy in possession and out of possession.

10:52Everyone gave their all and we were pretty aggressive and the game plan went just as we wanted. All right, can we show you Cherki's goal? Yeah. And you can talk us through it from your point of view as a fellow professional in this city side when you see him do something like this. Yeah, I'm just sat back just watching, trying to get up with play. But no, I see this every day since I've joined. And him, Phil, yeah, they've got such talent and it's no surprise, to be honest. In a minute, at the end of this, we'll show a similar goal that you scored against Arsenal last season for City. So what's interesting from your point of view, having played against him and some of these other City players, when you're now with them day in, day out, do they surprise you?

11:39Are they different to what you played against? Yeah, I think so. So much talent and I've been saying to my family, I'm so happy to be playing with him instead of against him and him dribbling past me like that. But no, yeah, the talent they have is scary. Jamie? You've been everything you've expected since you've come to City. Obviously, you work with a lot of managers. Mareska's come in and what he wants from you every day. You enjoying it? Yeah, I'm loving it. It's a little bit different to what I've been used to. So I'm just trying to grasp those little differences and try and settle in well.

12:10You know what it is, Jay? It's refreshing to see him. You're such a top player. and it's refreshing to say your first game when you came to the A-Yad, you were so nervous. You deserve to be out there. You've been brilliant, mate. Yeah. I think it's usual though, isn't it? Yeah. Joining a new club. Yeah, just going out there and trying to, obviously it's a big price tag, which everyone seems to be going on about, but I'm just trying to play my football and do as best I can. There's a lot of young players coming through now. Obviously, Boadisai, Makedu comes on today, Brownfoy. You've got a lot of good young players and the manager wants to give young players an opportunity and it feels that the nucleus is ready to build for the future.

12:47It said like City are back. Does it feel like this, obviously for you with a new manager as well, there's good times ahead? Yeah, 100%. I think you were saying, obviously, Anir has came to an end at City and a new one's starting and they've all got to start somewhere. I think the last game, it was an average age of 25 or something. So it's a really young squad and yeah, it's really promising. Has your role changed much since when you was playing at Northland Forest and now when you come to Man City, do you feel like it's changed much? Yeah, a little bit. I think I've got to be a little bit more structured.

13:18That's what I'm sort of learning, to stay in my position. And at Forest, I was doing a little bit more. But no, look, yeah, it is what it is, just trying to learn on the job. Elliot, thank you very much for joining us. Congratulations. Thank you. Thank you. Cheers. Let's look at it again, shall we? Because one of the biggest bugbears of football fans is any professional footballer. How can you not play with both feet? That's what we fancy. He can. But this is what we love about it, because there is that balance and poise. And as I'm watching it, the first thing that comes to my mind is there aren't many Premier League players that I've seen that can do this in such close proximity and keep the ball under control and then still have the audacity to somehow right foot, then he shifts it to his left and just get it into the corner.

14:07I think Eden Hazard possibly could have done that. He was that kind of player. You know, look at that impotence, low centre of gravity. It's still the strength to hold off Richards and somehow smuggle that ball away into the corner. Even, you know, King Clancy, to be Man City fans from a previous generation, remember him. He could do that. He could get past people in a telephone box. And this is very similar. And I actually, I think I prefer tonight, but this is just wonderful. Close control, Clinton, isn't it? Yeah, he manipulates the ball ever so well. Look at his fantastic close control. And he always is always in control of the ball trappers and Jamie.

14:42That's the biggest thing. And I think what you alluded to, Jamie, is there's contact from Richard, but he's still got the whereabouts to poke it in. And you know what else I like? The celebration. This is my place. It's my time. It's my football pitch. I'm going to show everyone my opinion. You can't know about it, wouldn't you? Yeah, yeah. There is that idea of being a bit of posturing, isn't there? Yeah, but he is a beautiful player. You know, we both mentioned before that we were talking about him and where he fits in because Mareska likes structure. He likes his players. Listen to Elliot Anderson.

15:08I've got to learn to stay in my position. but with someone like Cherki, you have to accept his freedom and he's a kind of maverick kind of talent. You've got to let him do his thing. You know, and he said in first half, he wasn't very good and he probably felt a little bit of pressure and in second half, he just completely changed the game with that moment of genius. Do you think he's the kind of player then that could make Mareska change part of his philosophy? Because when you talk about Kim Cladsey, it does feel like a different era because structure is such a big thing of modern-day football and modern-day coaching.

15:43Do you think he is – I don't want to go overboard after the second game of the season, but is he the kind of player that could take us back to that age? Yeah, I think so, and that's what we want to see, that kind of talent. If there was one – I wouldn't say it was necessarily criticism in his time at Chelsea. It was getting Cole Palmer on the ball enough. Now, I know there was obviously some injuries, but finding him in the right positions. And with players like Cherokee, you have to give them freedom. You can't say to them, you know, go and stand on the wing and when we get the ball, you can come alive.

16:16And there will be games, but I'm sure, if they do sign Enzo Fernandes, we will see Bouadi, Elliot Anderson and Enzo Fernandes in midfield. And he might go a little bit more belt and braces. But there are times, like tonight, when the game was getting a little bit tight, it goes to 2-1. That's when you need players like him. Someone that's going to just create. and especially if you ask Harland or as a striker he finds you with those passes doesn't he? 100%. There's a saying Chappers let the players play let the runners run. He's a player don't change his game because if you change his game you're not going to get the same player.

16:48He enjoys being one of the star men and making things happen. The way not many can do that you know the way he's moving the ball you've got a lot of Palace players in and around him and it's not the first time he's done that he's done that all of last season towards the back end and he started the season on fire this season he's been outstanding and you can see he believes in himself His interview, as we heard him say, wasn't very good. Yeah, well done. In the nicest possible way. It wasn't very good in the first half. Second half, he turned it on. And he's saying, I'm always looking for my mate, Harlem.

17:14But he's got that ability. He's a fantastic player. And his second and City's third, he took a deflection. But again, it's still, he's getting in those positions. You can see he gets in a nice little bit of space here behind Adam Wharton. And as soon as the ball comes to him, he's so quick to get it on the half turn. So he knows straight away, he knows where the position is. He knows where the pressure is going to come from in behind. He wants the ball to go there because he knows as soon as it comes to him, I'm now free. And you can see he changes his body shape, receives it on the half turn, gets his shot away.

17:43Yeah, it takes a big deflection, I think, off Richards. But, you know what, he's still left foot, right foot. It doesn't matter with this guy. It's so easy for him to do. Yeah, he makes the game look easy. As you say, he knows where he needs to be. He stays, it looks like nine times out of ten, he's just standing still. And maybe he is doing that. but the defenders don't know whether to come in. They don't know if a midfielder should come and drop. And he's always thinking, and you can see him, he's saying to Guardiola, you get the ball and you bounce it straight to me. And in that position, if you see the back of his shirt, you've got a chance.

18:16As soon as he's turned and he's running at you as a defender, it's all over. Somebody said to me when we were talking about Messi during the World Cup, standing still is one of the hardest things to do in football. Stand still and the ball sometimes just comes to you. It's a fact, you know, especially with great players because everyone else is running around, they're chasing it. I've got to be in my position. That's how they see the game. Whereas people like Cherki, and you mentioned Messi, and they have that bit of genius about him. They see the game differently. And I think that he is that type of player.

18:42You know, I think it's a joy to watch him. You know, the way that he moves, the way that he gets into position to receive it on the half turn, always has a picture where the pressure's coming from. Just thought he was wonderful tonight. And we can see that from all of his best bits here as well, and how he dictated play and how he was in the thick of it. He was on a booking as well for quite a lot of this game early on in that first half. But all good stuff. And that was the booking that he got for pulling Wartom back. But everything went through him. Yeah, everything should go through him. And he probably was disappointed not to start last weekend.

19:15So he's saying to the manager, Enzo Mareska, you've got to start me all the time. He just looks like he's one of them that enjoys playing football. And we said it earlier, you pay money to watch these kind of players. And these are the players we want to see doing their stuff in the Premier League. He believes himself. He believes in all the hype in him, and he delivers. And look what he's saying to him. Be careful. I can't afford for you to get a second yellow card. He's like, relax, gaffer. I know what I'm doing. I'll keep matured. I'll do that. I'll do that. My advice, I'm just saying, I personally feel, because he is so good at dribbling in tight areas, he should do it more.

19:53Because as soon as he arrives in the box, defenders are so scared to touch him. He can go off left or right foot. Like some players you know automatically want to go on their right side when you play against them. With him, you'd have no clue how to stop him because when he went past Gabriel, he drops his shoulder, comes inside. There he goes to his right side. It's so easy for him. The ball is almost like on a bit of string with him. And as we look at Erling Haaland's goals and his first goal came from across from Semenya, but you wonder whether you could have a partnership blossoming, couldn't you?

20:23Yeah, you could have a partnership. And you know what? It's a good partnership because you know what? I looked a lot when Semenyo first came in last season. He was very, he went to get his head down, get his shots away. Now he's delivering and he knows what Haaland's movement like. Look at this. It's a little sharp movement. For once then, he loses Richards. You've got no chance of stopping Haaland when a ball's like that. Great delivery from Semenyo. And it's an outstanding header. He's not missing from there. Not Erling Haaland, that's for sure. Beautiful, isn't it? What a header. He was a striker, but the way that he just loops it, he knows exactly what he's doing there, doesn't he?

20:53Yeah, fantastic. I weren't as good as him in the air, Jay, but yeah. I would have took that goal every day of the week. As a striker, you know you do find yourself in that position. Yeah, and the movement that he gets. And this is brilliant from Phil Foden. He's missed a couple of chances, but that's where we want to see Phil Foden. And that's where he wants to be, in that kind of number 10 position. But once he gets into that position, Phil Foden, the movement again from Erling Haaland. It makes me laugh when people say he hasn't had enough touches. He doesn't have to have loads of touches. The two touches he had, the most important, find the back of the net.

21:23Great finish. Everyone thought he'd lost his strength when he cut his hair last week. But City fans will be delighted. It's all right. It wasn't the haircut that made the difference. It took years off him as well. Look how young he looks now. To be fair, he looked young before as well. I mean, he made a little younger with his head like that. A baby-faced assassin. The other thing there, with Foden's assist, Foden will be fired up by what Cherky's doing as well. Absolutely. And that's competition for places. You know, it really was. And I thought today, Brouadio, that was a cameo. And I don't get me wrong, the game was won.

21:52But he's still, you can see the class. He played one through ball that was just side through the defence. So many good qualities in there. And this is what City want. And they're also a young, hungry side. You know, and people have been, at the start of the year, people question, how's the manager going to do? Is he going to last past Christmas? All these kind of crazy theories start coming out. Last week, they weren't great. Don't get me wrong. And they played against the Palace side. And I think it was a good timing to play against them. But still, a lot of the attacking stuff they did today was exceptional.

22:19Good win for Manchester City then. two wins out of two four one win here at Selhurst Park we will hear from both managers Enzo Maresca and Piersage when we come back

24:29Let's get some reaction from Manchester City now. Enzo Mareska is with Johnny Phillips. Enzo, Crystal Palace made it difficult for you in moments but you came through really strongly in the end. What did you like about the performance? Yeah, this is a tough pitch. We knew it before the game. You see the first minutes of the game that we struggled, but then we were in control. I think the intensity, the desire of the team has been very good. We scored four. We could have scored probably some more goals and we didn't consider it. How did you get control of the game? First of all, you need to match the intensity.

25:09you need to match the desire so off the ball I think we were quite good, we struggled probably again the first 10 minutes and then we adjusted a little bit, the pressing was better and on the ball just tried to create you know, just to put the players in position and ready to attack When you got the players into position they seemed to really enjoy being on the ball as well did it feel like there was an air of freedom amongst them? No freedom freedom no because I don't like if they are in place, if they are in position I think it's better for them because they can show themselves how good they are.

25:44But yeah, I think it was a good game for us. Ryan Cherky's first goal in particular, did that sort of sum up his technical ability and what he can offer the team? Yeah, he's helping us. He's going to help us in the future. And we know that he's a quality player. The last game against Bournemouth with the two assists, today with the two goals. But I think Ryan was very, very good off the ball. He was in control of Wharton and he was working very hard. And Phil Foden has started both league games for you as well. What did you think of his performance today? Yeah, Phil is adapting a little bit wide.

26:18We know that he's not a winger, but we are trying to find a solution. I think when the last 10 minutes, 15 minutes, he was inside, you can see that he was enjoying a little bit more. But again, the attitude was very good and this is what we need. Is this a team that you feel can adapt? I mean, we saw last week Marguerite here in midfield. We saw a few adjustments today as well. Are you giving them the power to adapt? No, we prepare. Now we have the entire week, so we can prepare games and we can try to think about different solutions, like Marguerite or like today, different things. The problem is when we start to play every three days that you don't have time to work, to prepare things, and we need to try to be good enough to find solutions.

27:01Does that make this period in particular really, really crucial? Because as you say, it'll start getting very busy very soon. Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. It was important to start in the right way with the new manager. You know, we said many times after many years, a big change. And it's important to start in the right way. And victories give confidence as well, not just to the players, but the supporters as well. Is it really important when a new era begins that you start with these wins? Yeah, absolutely. You can see at the end of the game how happy they were. they were full of our fans so thanks to them to come here tonight, that is always a good thing for the players, for everyone and yeah, happy for them also that we get the three points And what would you like to keep working on going forward when you look at that performance, is there an area that you feel you can make the next step up in the next game?

27:48Yeah, always, always there are things that we can do better I told this after the Community Shield final and I told after Bournemouth and tonight, there is always is the Roam's to improve. Well, well done today. Thank you very much. Good man. Same trip back, yeah. He's had a good night, hasn't he? He has, but I will also say it helps playing players in their right positions. Last week, they got away with one against Bournemouth. Playing Gay in midfield just didn't work for me, but they managed to get two obviously important goals with Ray and Cherky. And then tonight, you know, you can talk tactics all you like, but when Cherky does a bit of skill like that, that makes a massive difference.

28:24You know, he just wins your games, that individual brilliance, and that's what you need sometimes. and he wants structure and he wants Cherokee to obviously do his stuff off the ball. But if he's doing his stuff on the ball, it'll always make up for it. And I think sometimes you've got to take the good with the bad with players like that. But it did, as Jamie said, it did have a better balance to it, didn't it? Look, as Mareska may say, Foden isn't a right winger, but across the team, that looked better balanced. Yeah, it did, because O 'Reilly can play in midfield. We've seen it many times. I like him in midfield.

28:53I also like him at left back. Mark Gay is a better centre-half than he is. as a centre midfielder. And even though last week we thought he might play as a six, he was going into number 10 position. He's a better centre-off. He had a better structure. You have to play Ryan Cherky. I think he did actually know what he was doing in there. See, there you go. I don't think he knew what he was doing. So he was just running here, there and everywhere and he weren't disciplined enough because it's not natural for him where he's a better centre-off. Cherky in that number 10 is fantastic. You have to find a way for Phil Foden to get in that team on the right-hand side.

29:22I know he's not a natural winger, but as me and Jamie were talking about earlier, sometimes you don't have to hug the touchline. And you can come into little pockets in the number 10 and make it difficult for the full-back to mark you. And that's when he freed himself up and he got the goal. He came into pockets, not the goal, I mean the assist to Haaland. And it was a great assist. So they've had a great evening. It's been a good start for him. Six points. Because you can only imagine what it's like. Taking over from Glasner is not going to be easy, but taking over from Pep Guardiola, one of the biggest icons in Premier League history, arguably the best manager ever.

29:54And you then have to fill those shoes. All that pressure that comes with it. But also fill those shoes with quite a lot of churn going on, which is, as we talked about last week before the Bournemouth game, which is a bit unlike City to still be churning now. Normally it's all done and business done and right, we're ready to go. So he's had all of that as well. They are, but I think to a certain extent they're playing into his strengths because I think he likes working with younger players and there's absolutely no doubt City are building for the future. You can see with players like Buadi, you can see with Elliot Anderson as a young player.

30:29They want to make sure that they can still dominate and still be in the mix. The kids they brought on as well? They brought on three. They had three teenagers on the pitch tonight at once. I think they played one teenager all of last season. And he will do that. He will give teenagers opportunities. That wasn't always Pep's strength. He had so many strengths, but he didn't necessarily go with the younger players. And it is easy to bring on some young players when he went in 3-1, 4-1. But still, you have to do it and give them opportunities. opportunities and Buaddy's still only 18 years of age and you can see the authority that he plays him already I think there was a lot there's a lot of positives so far to get six points he will be delighted because sometimes not always about how you play this time of the season it's just about getting the wins from City to Palace and Pierre Sarge is with Johnny Pierre it was a tough score line in the end for your team today where do you feel the game went away from you I think we were able to play 60-65 minutes.

31:24We stay in the game at this moment, but when I made the substitutions, the energy of the teams go down, and I'm a little bit angry with that. When you say you're angry with that, are you angry with yourself or with the team? Both, because we are together, and I will stay with my team in every moment. But, you know, I told the players today we existed in this game. We have a lot of chances. I think the 3-1 was really a bad thing for us because we made a tactical mistake by not closing inside. They played between two players. After that, they have the advantage and they scored. But we have a lot of chances this time too.

32:15and it's difficult to have hope against this kind of team without scoring. If the substitutions were a key moment, can you explain a bit more? Was it difficult for you when you see a team that needs support and needs help against such a strong opponent? Yeah, because when you change players, it's about fatigue, it's about they are tired and you need more energy. And I don't find that. And that's why I told the players, we win minutes today, but we have to win more minutes and play as a squad and not only as a team. Did it feel like a step up in performance from last week, though, even though you had the defeat?

32:54With the defeat, no, but in the play, yes. But at the end, it's not a ranking of style, it's a ranking of efficiency. And that's why we cannot accept this kind of thing. We know we are in process. We know we have to work anymore and to keep our aim in head and every day in training. But we have to not accept this kind of situation because I think in Everton we deserve a better result. Today we can exist more in this game. And that's a true negative situation at the end. Given the players that you have available on the pitch, though, did it feel like you might not have been capable of lasting for a whole match?

33:41No, because we are late in our preparations, in our pre-season, sorry. That's why I think we need in a moment to do substitutions.

33:57But you cannot replace the fatigue with less energy. Daniel Munoz was on the bench today. Does that look like it's a situation where he's going to be off now as well? Before the game I told you if he was with us today, it's because he's here. The same reply after. How difficult a time is this for you? I bet you just want the window to shut now so you know what you're working with. It's always difficult but it's all the same for all the teams and we have to adapt. But we play with the players who are here at the moment. Maybe some of them will leave after a game but it's like this. some of them just live before a game and we have to adapt but it's not a problem we are prepared to manage this kind of thing Thanks for your time Do you have some sympathy for him?

34:51I do but I feel like I've heard it before I heard Oliver Glasner say the same thing last season so obviously he wants more bodies to come through the door and some of the he put on three new signings but he said it kind of weakened the team and there was not enough energy so for me I don't know But it looks like he's saying he needs more help and he wants better quality through the building. I mean, the quote was, I replaced fatigue, but with less energy. I mean, that's quite damning. Yeah, absolutely. And yeah, he knows what it's like to be in that, in and around that inner sanctum of the dressing room and how the players are feeling.

35:27I've been in dressing rooms when players want to leave and it does create a real negativity in the group. You know, P1 starts talking about who's going to be staying, who's going to be going, players not playing because you'd love to have Saar tonight. You'd love to have Mateta in your team. But while this window is the way it is, you haven't got them. And it just makes it so difficult. And he's a new manager that's trying to make a statement, trying to show what he's trying to do, implement a pressing style. And it feels that they're a bit of a way off it. He needs, as I think Johnny said to him there, he needs the window to close.

35:57He needs a couple of players in. And hopefully, I'm not sure it's going to happen, but Saar stays, Mateta stays, Wharton has to stay. And if they do, they'll be okay. Because that's why I asked about the sympathy thing because he's come in, new league new club, second language, all the uncertainty he's trying to implement his style with these players and yet also having to sort of deal with all the smoke and mirrors that appear to be going on at the moment that we are understandably asking him about and he's trying to sort of straight back that because that's what they have to do the things that he's got on his plate at the moment.

36:36Yeah, it's difficult, but Chappers, the same was with Oliver Glasner when he came in. It was exactly the same about Palace's recruitment and he dealt with it. They got players in when the window shut. The chairman brought in players. And for me, he's Palace's most successful manager. They're big shoes when he's coming into the field. So there's more pressure on the new manager now. Do you know why, Clinton? Do you know why? And you may not, right? But you know a lot of people at this club and this is your former club. do you know why it feels like more often than not things are left very late and maybe they will say they're not but the perception is that they leave things quite late do you know why?

37:15I don't know why and I 100 % agree with you, why is it left so late because everyone starts, and then you start panicking at the end, are the targets you're going for you can't get the targets, well you should have more than one target, if you don't get your first target you get your second target, your third target I'll tell you the reason why, and it's a big reason why they've lost one of the best sporting directors in my opinion in Dougie Friedman who unnerved all these gems and brought them in and you have to realise Palace can't compete with the big clubs so when you bring in players like the Eze's, Elyse's, Gahis, the Whartons evidently the big clubs are going to come and you're going to have to sell so it's all about recruiting and what Palace can look at a model is something like what a Brentford and a Bournemouth do because I think they recruit outstanding they're two of the best for me in the Premier League he's disappointed because he wants to be successful and he knows there's going to be pressure on him.

38:02But knowing how I know the chairman, he will bring players in to help him. I will say that, I mean, I get what you're talking about. Absolutely. But we can talk about the model. Maybe it's not right. They shouldn't do it late. They've won three trophies in the last two years. That's incredible. And Brighton's and Brentford's have done, obviously, incredibly well. Bournemouth has. But they have won trophies. So it's hard to sort of knock what they're trying to do. And this manager, like you said, trying to follow Pep Guardiola's stuff, trying to follow Glasner with what he's done with a squad that has no right to be winning cup competitions, but they have.

38:32So to a certain extent, you have to trust them. And in the next two, three days, a lot can still happen for him. And I think it's almost as important who they keep as who they bring in. Because if you lose a couple more players, if Enzo Fernandes goes and then Chelsea make a late bid for Adam Wharton, that would be a desperate situation for them. But they've got to make sure that they keep their best players here as well. Which includes Mateta and Saad, doesn't it? I know we've talked about Munoz and he will be a loss as well. But when you look at goal threats, when you look at what's being created, they need them, don't they?

39:06Saar in particular, he's the X factor. For me, you have to keep him. He was their top goal scorer last season. One thing what defenders don't like do, running towards their own goal, he stretches the pitch. And the combination he used to have with Munoz down that right-hand side, which looked like it's going to go because Munoz looks like it might be off. Hopefully he doesn't and he stays. But Saar is a big loss. What's your feeling? No, my feeling is he could be off because he was on the bench today. No, I'm on about Saar. Oh, Saar. No, I think he'll stay, Jay. I do think he will stay. I know there's obviously been an offer from Liverpool.

39:38And if it gets to a certain level, then probably they'll have to look at it. But it's a great move for Saar to go to a club like Liverpool. It's hard to turn that down. But obviously they're interested in Minter as well. So it's difficult because let me tell you something. If they come knocking on the door for me and I was still playing, I'd be like to the chairman, I want to go to Liverpool. They're one of the best clubs around in the world. So it is difficult, but in my heart's heart, I hope Sar's here. I hope I don't come back and regret that. I don't want you to either. Let's just end with the, I was going to say with the Pinot goal, but it doesn't go down as his goal.

40:12Although if you'd have hit this free kick, you would have wanted to claim it. I'm not sure the foul was a bit soft originally, wasn't it? Yeah, it was a little bit. But the free kick was a thing of beauty. I think, yeah, I totally get, as he hits that, sometimes we've seen those balls, as they hit the post with a spin, it can sometimes still go into the opposite corner. But obviously I understand why it's given as an own goal, but it's just so unfortunate because that ball could hit that post, hit the keeper and still come in. So I personally would like to see him get given that. And when I saw it, because I was thinking what they're going to do, and you saw the big scoreboard behind us, and it had Donnarumma with the goals.

40:55red and gold football next to Donnarumma. I just think, you know, when you've had that, and it was such a, and he has got a lovely strike because I thought Warton was going to maybe take it with his left foot. Pino took it and it'd be gutted, but it was a moment and it got them back into the game and you started to think, okay, something then could happen and that's what the manager talks about, leaving too much space for the third goal because that was the killer goal for them. Yeah, we've seen some good goals tonight here at Sailhurst Park, Manchester City winning by four goals to one. I'll show you what else is coming your way.

41:25across the weekend. Premier League weekend live with Roman and the team from 10 o 'clock tomorrow morning. Sky Sports Premier League and Sky Sports News. Looks like Stuart Broad will be part of that team unless we've accidentally put him on the wrong graphic. Saturday night football tomorrow. Spurs against Newcastle. All the build up from five o 'clock. You're doing that one, aren't you? I'm forward to that one. Yeah, Tenali will get a bit of stick I'm sure tomorrow night like Isak did. It doesn't look like Jimmy Anderson's part of that coverage. So that's OK. It's actually to have a pun there.

41:59It's amazing. And then all of these guests on Super Sunday, Chelsea, Brighton, Leeds, Brentford, Sunderland, Fulham, and then at 4.30 from Old Trafford, Manchester United against Ipswich. And on Monday night, football, Thierry Henry will be alongside Jamie for that. Aston Villa, what a big game that is for them now against the champions. We couldn't see what Thierry Henry, who worked with Ryan Shirky, what he thinks about that goal because he could have scored that type of goal. Yes, exactly. He likes it, Jamie does. I know he does. Jamie, Clinton, thank you very much. Two wins out of two for Enzo Mareska and Manchester City.

42:40They can enjoy their weekend. Bye for now.
