A midweek round of fixtures began on Tuesday with three matches all live on Sky Sports. Bournemouth played Everton, it was Fulham against Manchester City and Newcastle took on Spurs. Here is how the evening unfolded.
0:33and after all the talk of disunity a point to bolster Tottenham spirits and it's Thomas Frank's captain who has earned it for them a double for Christian Romero after Spurs had twice fallen behind the second goal a spectacular overhead kick even though it came off his shin and joe linton is letting his anger and frustration show and romero has to be taken away to enjoy the pleasure of his two goals his first double for tottenham and to revel in the fact that they've all the talk of discord in the last few days by getting a big point which means that they and Newcastle still cannot be separated Bruno Gimreis the Newcastle captain came on to score and put them ahead in the second half after Romero had headed in Spurs first Newcastle went ahead again with a controversial penalty awarded against Rodrigo Bentonker in tussling Danburn to the ground.
1:39Anthony Gordon scored it, but that was not to be the final act because Bruno Gimmarais, to his disappointment, saw the skipper on the opposite side have the final save with that overhead kick. And it finishes Newcastle 2, Tottenham 2. All square then at the final whistle. It was a team with a very good home record against a team who've had a very good away record so far this season, and they could not be separated at St James's Park. You might think a four-goal thriller was the highlight of the evening, but it was 4-5 at Craven Cottage. Manchester City were 5-1 up in that game. Fulham almost did it.
2:20They had chances right at the end to level or perhaps even go one better. Everton got a 1-0 win at Bournemouth. Really good way for them to bounce back to a bad defeat with the weekend. Jack Grealish got the goal for them. Six games to come on Wednesday night. Unlikely it's going to be as many goals, but we've got our fingers crossed for it. And there's so many of those games that we've had to go on to some of the other channels as well. So cricket, F1, they're all in there. And then on Thursday, it's Manchester United against West Ham.
2:50Let's see what all of that has done to the table then. Starting at the very top, when Manchester City's win, a narrow one in the end, means that they've closed the gap on Arsenal to just two points at the moment. Everton move up into ninth place, then are level on points with Liverpool.
3:10And then Tottenham stay inside the bottom half of the table. They move up to 19 points as to Newcastle after picking up that one point. Defeat for Bournemouth means that they are in 14th place. They're also on 19.
3:27It's go time.
3:35Yeah, baby! Yeah! Ow!
3:45Count me in. Believe in the magic of movies. Merry Christmas. Sky, believe in better. Go on then, Grinch. What would you go for? I'd go with a Grinch. I don't really like Christmas curls. You know what? You need to watch more Christmas movies then. that's the way to do it. I'm the happiest person every day apart from Christmas. Right. Everyone comes around the house going in my fridge eating my food. So it's not Christmas you don't like it's people. Correct. So in other words you are the Grinch. I am the Grinch. You are the Grinch. So while Micah's sitting at home wishing nobody else was there and watching the Grinch what would you be going for?
4:23I'm on the Elfkel. Yes. Will Ferrell will love it I do make it Christmas. I could start with It's a Wonderful Life work my way through all the way to like Tinseltown, but I like all... Which I've not seen yet this year. I won't watch a Christmas film until the 1st of December. I've got a rule. I'll let you know how organised fun is the best kind of fun of that later on. Wait a minute, you're too active Christmas. Listen, we have got so many goals to get through this evening. It finished all square at St James' Park at 0-0. We weren't sure if we were going to see goals, but at the end it was two apiece.
4:59Spurs with a late equalizer, Christian Romero with both of their goals. We'll take a look back at it and hear from both managers next.

5:42Welcome back to the Sky Sports Premier League podcast. Let's get back to the studio for more reaction to today's game. It's Volta Marder. Oh, it's brilliant from Bruno Givarais. It is with the ball in Romero! Well what was he still doing up there? Gordon.
6:08Emphatic!
6:13Oh right the way through! It's spectacular and it's the captain again!
6:212-0 was the final score at St James' Park between Newcastle and Tottenham. Meanwhile, at Craven Cottage, Erling Haaland became the fastest player to 100 Premier League goals. He did it in 111 matches. That was nowhere near the full story from there. It finished 5-4, City were 5-1 up in that game. And we will bring you all the goals from that a little bit later on. Everton with a 1-0 win at Bournemouth. Jack Grealish with the goal in that game. So we'll see all of it in full before we leave you tonight. But we need to start with this game at St James' Park, where Newcastle, you could say, probably edged it over the 90 minutes.
7:01And they led twice in the game, but twice were pegged back. Yeah, I thought Spurs showed a tremendous character, really, because it hasn't been going their way. They weren't perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but they had a captain and a leader that grabbed that game by the scruff of their neck tonight. Two great goals. Certainly the first one was a world-class diving header. The second one is a bit of a Shinaldo. But, you know, you don't care, you'll take them. and it's exactly what they needed. It was contentious, the second half. Halftime, we're begging for viewers. By the end of it, people are tuning in and everything's happening and it got exciting.
7:32There was contentious decisions. There was excitement. Newcastle gave it all, but Spurs, in fairness, got back into the game and they showed real character. And somebody said at halftime, if anybody was watching our coverage instead of watching the Fulham City game, they will have noticed that you said, Spurs are not going to be happy to see Guimarães come on. No, I mean, yeah, it's not the biggest statement in the world, but he is just a fantastic... Well, you've got to say it. But he's a great player, Kelly. You know, there's difference makers in football, and he's certainly one of them. One of the things I will say with Tottenham in terms of their set-up, I'm just going to highlight him here.
8:05You can see Guimara's now. Everyone is too far. You've got to see Benson Kerr's got with Joe Linton. Saar, I think, should engage a little bit more. Brendan Johnson's probably thinking about Miley. But you can't give a player this much space because it has an effect on it. Anthony Gordon, another sub. Once he gets that ball, he's got one thought on his mind. I'm just going to run you, Porro. And he does that. And then the ball, they do really well. Voltemada's involved as well. But look at this freedom that he's got here. Voltemada. I'm not sure if it's Danso. Voltemada gets that touch. But that finish is exquisite.
8:35It's such a difficult one because he's coming in at a really difficult angle that he wants the ball here. He doesn't get it. And then all of a sudden, I'm after the next one. Now, nobody's picking him up. And once that ball falls to him, he just opens up his body really well, squares up that side foot that he's got and just guides it into the corner with pure venom. This is a really good angle. Look at how he comes onto the ball here. As it comes in, it gets reversed to him. And look at the angle he has to sort of open his body up and then smashes that into the corner. It gives Vicario no chance whatsoever.
9:05That's a technique there, isn't it, Jamie? Normally you think he'd go in instep and bend it one way, but he's sort of gone across the ball to get the bend. And he gets power behind it as well, which is so difficult to do, Mike. A really good goal. No, it was outstanding. The equaliser, in fact, both goals from Romero were very good goals as well. This one, a little bit more of a classic. It's the first time he's scored a couple of goals in a game for Newcastle as well. I'm going to just highlight it here for you, Michael, because there was obviously, they've had a corner Tottenham and the captain said, I'm staying up for this, doesn't he?
9:34I think it's just his movement here, where the ball comes, he doesn't want to engage and go on the ball and do a set. He wants to draw Dan Byrne one way so he can go at the near post. you see strikers doing this week in week out but for defender to be doing this it's absolutely looking position in there i mean if we could just take that back a little bit there jamie if you just look at romero's position there yep there he is yeah this is incredible play because what he's trying to do now he sees the numbers when you're a defender basically that's the last thing that you want and they're thinking it's a defender from we've got no problems here and as we move it on ever so slightly, he gets into a position now where he gets the space.
10:23Kudus, the ball has to be perfect, but he just now is in a position where he's got all this space and he's going to get the first connection. It's about who wants it more and tonight he certainly did. Really good performance from him. That is bravery at its best. Look at him here. Dan Burns throwing his left foot at it. He's throwing his head at it. We've seen some great diving heads in the Premier League. Robin Van Persie springs to mind. some really brave, great headers. And that is up there with the best of them. He gets across him. He's aggressive. Like you said, he gets into Dan Burns' blind spot and then he just nips in front of him and it is a brilliant header.
10:56And that's the sort of player he is. You see him at the end, he's firing him and Gimarese are having a row. And he's really, I wasn't always his biggest fan, but I must admit he has certainly grown on me. You said earlier the penalty decision was contentious. Before we look at it, just to put everybody in the right frame of mind, This is what the referee and what the officials are going to be looking at. They want to know if they're sustained or impactful holding. They want to know clear impact on the opponent's opportunity to play or challenge. Clear extreme non-footballing action with impact on the opponent's movement.
11:28Not looking at the ball, and this is something that they're particularly focusing on this season, only focusing on the opponent and not challenging for the ball, or holding an opponent with both arms. So they're looking for any combination of these criteria. Let's take a look at it and see if we think that they were met in terms of this challenge on Dan Byrne. Well, in terms of not looking at the ball, that fits the criteria. When we had the discussions with the Premier League, that's something that they were going to take into consideration. But there's not enough holding there. Dan Byrne is just too strong for him.
12:02Benton Kerr, it holds him for a little while, make sure he can't get the run on him. And then now, Byrne's all over Benton Kerr. So I don't understand. The referee made a really good decision in not giving it. It goes to the AR, it's put doubt in his mind, and then he's going to have to give it. But look at Dan Byrne, he's not even complaining. He gets up now, he just makes his hands up as if to say, it's a gesture, referee, come on, what's going on here? He's not once got up with any kind of aggression to say to the referee, what are you doing? Now, is he holding him? Is he impeding him? Yes, possibly.
12:33But we see this week in, week out. The referee then gets involved. This is just before the corner's taken, said, look, guys, I don't want to see any holding. but he never once got involved after that and then the VAR does decide to step in. But where is the consistency? We see this game in, game out every single week in the Premier League and they don't get given. Now, if that's going to be the threshold and penalties are going to be given for that, OK, no problem. But we want consistency, Kelly, and that isn't consistency there. Do you not think there is an argument to say that there is sustained holding, if not particularly forceful holding, but sustained holding and that it does impact Dan Byrne's ability to play or impact the ball.
13:14He's not watching the ball. They are having a definite wrestle, but it's both of them, Micah. And then Dan's sort of leaning forward, trying to make it as elaborate as he possibly can. I don't see that as a penalty because I see a lot, lot worse week in, week out that aren't given. So if we're going to have this, then the VAR and the referees have to give us this consistency. I don't like the way Benson Kerr has defended that situation, if I'm totally honest. I think that once you're not looking at the ball, It makes it difficult. I always like to see defenders at least do both. But he takes that approach.
13:44But that's how Spurs defended those corners. And Dan Burnham is an absolute handful. But I think you're right, Michael. I just don't see that as a penalty. Holding, Kels, but not sustained holding. I mean, it's not enough. It shouldn't be. Nevertheless, it was given. And the penalty was scored by Anthony Gordon. Always confident it was going in? No. No, but he's a very good player, Anthony. It was just, there was a little, I was just more interested to see, because when a player comes on a sub, will he take it? He scored two out of his last three. That's his first Premier League goal since January, though.
14:15Yeah, he took it really well. And I like to see that kind of confidence. You know, he is a confident boy, Anthony. But I wondered if, you know, Guimarez would have taken it or Volta Marder. But no, they went with him and, you know, he took it with a plum. Yeah, took it well. And they were 2-1 up. And then you think Newcastle probably edged the game. That would be a fair result. But Spurs and Cristian Romero had something to say about it. Wow. What a finish this is. He sort of shins it, but it's how high he gets. And then there's confusion in the box. You see this in this angle here. I mean, there's pulling going on there.
14:48Ramsdale punches it, and then it just goes to the side of Chiao. And then... Well, it goes through Chiao's legs, I think, Micah. Or just to the side of him, does it look? Just to the side of him. And then Ramsdale can't react in time. Soft goal to concede. but it's a great moment for Romero. We talked about Spurs beforehand. Just do the job. I mean, we didn't expect him to do this job. It's not the cleanest situation. Do you think Thomas Franks cares one bit whatsoever?
15:21I mean, they were possibly, given what had happened with the other penalty, by the way, looking at an incident in this before the ball goes in the net, which kind of takes the decision away from the refereeing team. Then they'd have been looking at this. Well, I mean, if you look at there, Romero bringing Chou down. It's similar. But look how quickly he gets up and then does this. Incredible improvisation. Yeah, there is a little bit of luck. He gets his shin. But Spurs have deserved a little bit of luck. They have. At times. You know, it was going to be a difficult game today. We said beforehand, and it was about character.
15:56It was about spirit. Because there was wobbling in that first half. In the second half, they got the two goals and fair play. Let's hear what Cristian Romero made of both his goals. Cristian, talk us through the goal. The first goal was a really important one and then of course you got that second one right at the end as well. But the first goal, talk us through that. No, it's very important. In the last maybe three or four games, the team is not good enough but I love today the mentality. play like this all together and go again. It's a difficult time, but especially in this game, I love the mentality.
16:34The second goal that went in to make it 2-2, what were your feelings when that goal went into the back of the net? I train every day with Leo Messi, the national team, watch him. It was a beautiful goal.
16:54Yeah, I mean, if you train with Leo Messi, you're probably going to be all right. Aren't you? You pick up a few tips from him. I train with Salah. You changed the body, didn't you? That was great. You mentioned about the result showing Spurs grit and determination. And because, I mean, I think probably you could park the PSG game because they were so good. And Spurs did put in a decent performance for a long part of that game, particularly coming off the back of the North London derby. It was Spurs fans wanted to see a response. Do you think they got it in this game? Well, they got it in terms of the result, for sure.
17:28And it was a tough, it's always difficult to go there. You know, after Newcastle had such a good result the weekend, it was going to be difficult. You had to manage the crowd. You had to stay in the game. And they had to fight. They're having a fight with themselves at the moment, Newcastle, at Tottenham Hotspur, because of pressure and everything that's going with it. So they needed to show some character. They needed to show a bit of desire. And that's sometimes when a leader comes to the front. And it's your captain. because the goalkeeper, we thought both did really well today. Because he's had a really rotten weekend.
17:54He had to hang in there. So I think they did well and it's something now to build on. But there's no point producing a performance where you get a good point like that and then against Brentford not showing again. You've got to now go on the front foot a little bit. If Thomas Frank wants to start to get a bond with the Tottenham fans, they need to see a bit more attack in football. You know, Romero showed the way there. In terms of that finish and the way his movement is, I mean, Thomas Frank's probably thinking about playing him up front, because that's what they need a bit more of. But it's a good result for them today, and that will certainly just dampen that noise that was surrounding Tottenham and the manager, but they've got to make sure they capitalise it at the weekend.
18:31So if it's dampening down the noise around Tottenham, let's hear what it's done for Newcastle. Eddie, how is with Pien? Eddie, it's a point apiece. How do we reflect on that performance tonight? I don't think it was us at our best today. But we battled into a position that we wanted obviously with a few minutes left and we just couldn't defend that corner at the end. It had a disappointing feeling having worked so hard. It took a while for the goals to come but it felt like Newcastle had quite a lot of the control. There were a lot of chances as well. Did you feel like you had that the whole game?
19:06Pretty much, yeah. I thought we were in the ascendancy. I think we had, as you say, some good chances in the game. It felt like the goal was slow in coming for us. We battled in the first half to try and break the deadlock. They keep making a couple of really good saves. I don't think it was us at our very best, especially in the attacking half. But as I say, we did enough, we got ourselves in the winning position and we just needed to defend the corner better. The changes that you made, of course, Bruno Gimaraes coming on at half-time clearly made a difference because his goal was brilliant. Just a word on his performance tonight.
19:38Yeah, he did very well. I mean, his goal was an outstanding finish. I'd like to see it again because obviously I'm at the wrong angle for it, but it's flown into the corner. I thought he made a difference. His energy, his enthusiasm and his passion has always stand out for us. And yeah, I think he made a big difference. There was obviously a big call in the game as well with the penalty. Did you expect it to be overturned and called as a penalty? Difficult because I hadn't seen it. I'm just actually seeing it on the screen there as we're talking. And I think the big thing is the defender doesn't look at the ball at all.

20:05He's just looking at Dan and I think it's probably the right call. Anthony Gordon with the penalty as well. Really confident as well when he took it and it was a really good strike. Yeah, I was really pleased with his impact. I think he definitely changed the dynamic, energy, pace, directness. He's put a lovely couple of crosses in for us and took his penalty really well. So a good little cameo for Ant. Ultimately, though, you go away with a point. The goals that went against you, two goals by Christian Romero, what did you make of the first equaliser and then, of course, right at the end to have that win taken away from you?
20:38Yeah, we're disappointed with the first one. It looks just quite a standard cross and we haven't defended it well enough. The second one, at that stage of the game, they're piling men in the box. I thought that we did well enough with the first contact and then we didn't stop the overhead kick and I haven't seen it again, but somehow it's gone in and it's a painful one for us to reflect on and take. Eddie, thank you very much for your time. A measured response there from Eddie Howe and he felt that certainly in the attacking field they weren't at their very best, Newcastle. What do you make of that result from their perspective?
21:09I think he'd be really disappointed, obviously, because you're leading twice in a game. I'm a big fan of Eddie Howes, but he made a substitution when he brings on Sha for Miley. And I know people say, well, you're trying to hang on to the game. It's another defender, another big body in there. But I feel sometimes what that does is it almost gets players in each other's way. And you can see that that felt like a consequence. You've defended corners all game. Now, Lewis Miley is a big guy. He can handle these situations. Everyone knows their jobs. Now, all of a sudden, someone else comes into it.
21:41And his first thought in his mind, I think, Fabian Shah, is I'm just going to win this. And then collisions can happen. And I felt that's what a consequence of that goal. So sometimes bringing on a substitute just to hang on to the game doesn't always work. Sometimes it can have a negative effect because you're going OK. You're hanging on to the game. But the flip side is they can see the corner and you can say, why didn't I make that change? But I don't always like substitutions like that. And he'll be disappointed, but there are a lot of positive signs. You know, I look at Newcastle and until they get Vista back and they can get that bit of pace, you know, in that wide area, there's no doubt he's going to be an excellent signing for them.
22:17That's how we're really going to start to judge them, I think, Micah. Yeah, agreed. But I've got to go to a break, so do you want to take us? You're all right, thanks. Sorry, I thought it was too long there. I was going to let you talk, don't worry about it. There's plenty of time. What do you think? Do you know what Micah's trying to rush to? I want to get to City! Micah's trying to rush to City. We'll get to the bottom of this eventually because it was an incredible game at Craven Cottage. We'll bring you that. We'll also bring you the best of the Everton game as well where Jack Grealish got the goal.
22:46But yeah, best of tonight's action coming up next.

23:31Christian Romero scored two goals including that equaliser for Tottenham to earn them a point at St James' Park it finished 2-2 and you think if you've got four goals in a game you've had a pretty good return Fulham got four at Craven Cottage didn't even win it they were up against Manchester City who started so well yeah they were brilliant Ireland gets his 100th goal. Great moment for him. Really good play by Doku. You see his father in the crowd there. It's a really good finish. I mean, he's just stood still. But it's a movement that he needs to do a little bit more sometimes. He always goes to that back post.
24:08But it's a really good finish. But he's not only doing goals now, Kels. He's got an assist now as well. People said he couldn't play. Look at that from Reinders. Great run, lovely little through ball. At this point, City are cruising. And they were cruising even more when Phil Foden scored. Well, I mean, in this space there, Kels, I really think he's one of the best in world football. Just getting the ball really quick in that space, taking the shot, absolutely brilliant. So then Emile Smith-Rowe, just before half-time. Diving headers. Diving headers, the night of diving headers. That's a good one as well.
24:47And it's 3-1. Still, though, you're thinking City are pretty comfortable, if not even more comfortable. Even more comfortable. I mean, Haaland gets a bit lucky there with that touch, I think, there. But Foden, again, making runs into the box, finishing it. City looked like there was, again, cruising. Are you having this as a Sander Burgum goal, Micah? Well, I mean, it must not be going on target. It was going wide there, you see. And that's 5-1. It looked like it could have been six, seven or eight. At that point, you're calling it, aren't you? You've called the patient at that stage. If you look at all the goals, Man City are basically conceding.
25:27It's all at the edge of the box. You're all going together back and no one's worrying about that space. Again, here, just at the edge of the box. Chuck Quasey. Five-three. Now I was starting to sweat. And on 72 minutes. Well, you was definitely starting to sweat at this point. And he made good substitutions. Josh King was coming on and made a massive impact, making things happen. just on side as we can see here. And now the panic starts to set in. And I've been in this position as a player. It's horrible. You can see everyone is trying to block things. They get that little bit of luck. The crowd are up.
25:59Everything is starting to happen really quickly. And Fulham and the manager in the ascendancy. So then we're thinking they can't. They can't get back in it. And they had that chance. Oh, my God. Quarriol off the line. I mean, really good play. King. King there. You just think he's going to get a draw out of it. But luckily Guardiola's there to save it off the line. Guardiola's there. Guardiola. I said Guardiola. You didn't. You said Guardiola. Guardiola was there. Guardiola would have been in his mind. We've all made mistakes today. I'm nervous. Listen, to calm your nerves, Manchester City are two points behind Arsenal, who, of course, are going to be in action tomorrow evening.
26:42but they're just starting to ramp up the pressure at this stage of the season before we start to head into the real drama of Christmas. But it was a hugely significant game for Erling Haaland as well because that goal that we saw him score was his 100th in the Premier League. He's the fastest player in Premier League history to get to 100 goals. He's done it in 111 games. He is well clear of second place Alan Shearer who took 124 games to get there and he spoke to Harriet Pryor about it after the match. Well, Erling, that was an incredibly mad game of football. First of all, just let's get your reaction to that one.
27:18Yeah, I think if you're sitting home now, you enjoy that game. It was a chaos game and nine goals in the game is a lot. So in the end, we win and we're happy. But it's not the best game, no. Well, nine goals in that game, but you got the first one. and that does mean that you are now the fastest player ever to 100 Premier League goals. How does that feel? Yeah, it's huge, and I'm really proud. Yeah, of course, it's a massive thing, and 100 club is a nice thing to be in, and I'm happy. You've got your dad watching on as well. I know you say you don't think too much about records, but was that one you were very keen to break?
27:59Yeah, I knew about this, and yeah, that's what I try to do. I tried to help the team with scoring goals and yeah that's my job. A couple of games without a goal, how keen were you to get that 100 tonight? Every game is a different game and you can't think of the games that's been. You need to focus ahead and the reality is we lost against Newcastle and Leverkusen and now we won two in a row so we need to keep going. It's a tough schedule, it's many games now in the next month. So game by game and recover as best as possible. Tell me about the expectations you put on yourself. Do you expect yourself to score in every single game?
28:46I mean, I don't want to say the words, but when you're striker for Man City, you should be delivering great numbers and that's my job. People should criticise me if I don't. That's normally what people do. So in the end, as I said, I should deliver. Only 25 years old. How much more have you got to give? Have you got your sights set on that other Alan Shearer record one day? I know about it, but I don't think too much about it. And finally, just in the wider picture, the grand scheme of things, only two points off of Arsenal at the top of that table. Now, how significant could this game be when it comes to that title race?
29:28Of course, it's important. Arsenal came here and they won as well. So we know how difficult it is to come here and Fulham is a great team. But again, we shouldn't think too much about Arsenal. We should focus on ourselves, try to improve and avoid things like this happen today because it's not good enough. And we all know this and we need to improve as a team. That's what our focus should be. Well, congratulations. It is a record-breaking night and you also take away the player of the match trophy and celebrate. A pleasure to get it from you. Thank you, guys. And having joined the 100 Club, you can watch Erling Haaland Premier League 100 Club 6 o 'clock tomorrow.
30:09She's got a quick edit. You can watch that Christmas Day. Yeah, instead of the Grinch. You can watch Erling Haaland. Rinders would be more pertinent for Christmas Day. Sky Sports Premier League, before we get all our coverage underway ahead of the six games that you can see on Sky Sports tomorrow. Erling Haaland's friend, Jack Grealish, was on the score sheet for Everton. Really important result for them. They went to Bournemouth, who are having a bit of a wobble, and they got the victory. It took a bit of a deflection as well, this one, Micah. Yeah, but it was a big performance from them. David Moyes said in an interview last week that he wants more goals from Jack, and to get the goal and three points, it's massive for Everton.
30:48I mean, Barry's been struggling up front. You know, he asked us before the game where the goals are going to come from. And Di, Grealish, even Jewsby Hall's been chipping in as well. But it's a big moment for him. You know what's great to see with Jack? Just to see him smiling and looking like he's enjoying his football again. Because at Manchester City, it felt like a difficult time for him. It felt like a bit of a chore. You know, he was having to come on, play a bit of a bit part. He's too good for that. And the Evertonians would love him. You know, he's a big moments player and he's got his confidence back.
31:17And we all love Jack Grealish playing well. He's such an exciting English talent. And it's three points that take Everton into the top half of the table. Here's what Jack Grealish made of it. He's with Emma Saunders. A bit of luck, I suppose, ultimately with a finish, but they said in commentary, you don't score is what they said ultimately, so you'd concur. No, I think, you know, I've scored two goals now here this season. One was like a tackle and then one was a deflection, but, you know, I got hammered for years for not scoring, so I'm taking both of the goals. And, yeah, it's good, you know, just to be contributing It's a brilliant team.
31:53I love the manager to peace. I've only known him a few months and I can't speak highly enough of him as a person. How he makes me feel and how he makes me want to go there and play for him. Credit to him. We're doing well. I think the last game was... We've had a few games like that at home where we've conceded quite early and then we've just flopped a little bit for the rest of the game. Tottenham, Newcastle. But I feel like we started well in the top half of the league now. So, yeah. Yeah, neither of his goals this season, as he said, have been polished finishes. But look, he's clearly loving life at Everton.
32:29He's kissing the badge. He's in front of the Everton fans. They love him. Micah, you speak to him. How much is he enjoying life there? I think all fans adore him. Man City fans love him too. But he got, I wouldn't say stale, but you know when you're in one week and then you're out the next, it's hard to get that little bit of consistency. Let's not forget he's a treble winner at Man City and he was brilliant in that season. But I think in terms of himself, he's playing with a little bit more freedom, a little bit more confidence. He knows he's the main man in this side, along with Njai. At Man City, he was just one of many good players or top players in that side.
33:06But you can see within his performance that he's not always coming back and passing back. He's actually trying to take people on. But the thing is, though, you need to add a little bit more goals. You know, for all his good play, that's what he's judged on now. Stats, goals and assists. So I'm delighted for him and he's a happy man. And he got the goal this evening. They've got Everton all three points to take them into the top half of the table. A couple of big goals for Tottenham from Christian Romero, celebrated by Thomas Frank on the touchline as they came from behind twice to draw 2-1 against Newcastle.
33:37He's been talking to Pien Merlinstein. Thomas, 2-2 in the end, a point to take. What did that performance from your side show you tonight? I think it showed fantastic mentality and character. Every team needs that. It's been a tough week, I think that's fair to say. We played the fourth game in 10 days, third away game. We're going away to Newcastle St James Park, which is always a difficult place to come. and the courage and mentality the players showed throughout the game was great. I think the first 25 minutes we suffered, but you need to suffer up here at times. After that, I think, grew into the game.
34:22I think last 60, I'm very happy with that performance overall. And the bounce-back mentality both overall but also in the game, the ability to react to setback was great. first 1-0 down and then 2-1 down where I think it's absolutely a big mistake from the VAR. I think Thomas the Ref did very well to do the ref call and they encouraged the refereeing call on the pitch. So for me that's never a penalty. So that late to still come back just shows a lot. So I'm very happy with that. I think our fans were excellent, 3 ,000 fans traveling up here. It's a Tuesday night. It's everything we could hear throughout the game.
35:04also the way they they supported Vic throughout the game I liked that a lot when you look at the two goals from Christian Romero of course they were important goals because each time it was an equalizer but just how important of a player is he and what will that do for his confidence as well yeah I know coach he is a he's a top top player we all know that and I think the I think all his performance today was was very good I think he was who's very strong defensively won a lot of duels with and with Voldemort and but also adding two goals I think the first header is is excellent striker goal I haven't seen many strikers score like that two shots on target two goals as well which of course were two very important goals to get you that point and you mentioned that the determination is this what you were looking for this kind of reaction that you wanted to see after recent performances yeah but I think you know recent performance I think there's one thing I think I did The PSG performance was very, very good in many ways.
36:02I think there were some very good bits in the Fulham performance as well. Today we had 60 minutes, very good, so it still needs to be 90. But I think the overall extra determination is what we need when you have a tough spell. Thank you very much for your time. Thank you. See you soon. Bye. Well, determination was needed after a tough spell, and that's what they got in this game. That kind of resilience, that ability to come back, especially from what he thought was an incorrect penalty decision. and we had your views on that a little bit earlier on. It does settle, perhaps, the Tottenham fans for the time being.
36:34It does quieten down the noise around Thomas Frank's future for a little while. But in order to build on that, he's got Brentford next, his old side. At home. At home, where it's been difficult for them. What has to happen next, Jamie? Exactly what you said. Start playing well at home. You know, the Spurs fans pay an enormous amount of money to go and watch that team week in, week out, and they're not seeing good enough football right now. The quality isn't there. the goals, the excitement. They've got the best stadia, but the team is playing as poorly as anybody in terms of their home form. That has to change and it's got to shift quickly.
37:07And it has to start with Brentford, which won't be easy for a manager playing against his old side. Don't get in your own way. You've got a Tottenham side. Don't think too much about what Brentford are going to do. You're the team with, I would say, better players than Brentford, so can you capitalise it? Go on the front foot. You're not at a club like where you're at Brentford where you're trying to maybe stop other sides. Now it's up to you to go and make sure that you provoke the situation and you become the leader in this one. So I think he needs to really start winning big home games. Then things can change.
37:37You know, it's take the pressure off him. There's a lot of Prague as well in the Champions League at home. Yeah, so they've got games that they can win, Micah, but they've got to make the home form or the stadium a fortress. You know, by getting players like Kulichewski back, and Madison's obviously going to be out for a long while. They need a bit more creativity. Obviously, Kudus was that spark today, but I want to see more from Brennan Johnson. I want to see more from Richarlison. I need Solanke back. So there are some positive signs to come, but they've got to make sure they start on Saturday.
38:01They can't afford to have that setback the weekend. And Bergwahl, how do you think he performed today? You mentioned him before the game in terms of his energy to the side. Yeah, I thought he started OK. He looks a little bit nervous to start. Then he got into it. He had a really good flick, had showed real pace and energy in terms of the game. I think there's more to come from him. But, you know, he's been at the team, Mikey. You know when you're a player that hasn't had that confidence on the manager's backing, you need to earn that again. And it needs to get that confidence back. but I do really like him and I think he gave the midfield something today.
38:29Yeah, and in terms of Kudus, just very quickly, he made the substitution, took Kudus off. Yeah. That was risky because that hadn't worked out for Tottenham. I couldn't believe it, Kelly, if I'm honest. But, you know, not that it really had an impact on the game, but Kudus is the one player that you'd expect to score. And I'm sure, like, a lot of Spurs say, why are you taking him off? But it didn't matter. They got the goal and that was the all-important one. You know, it gives them a really good point. They've been looking forward to this. He said 3 ,000 Spurs fans went up there. They supported the team.
38:54They got behind Vicario. He had a really good game today as well. So there was a lot of positives. It was a really important point, but they've got to make sure to get three points on Saturday. Let's take a look at what else is coming up for you on Sky Sports. There is a host of action. Arsenal against Brentford, 7.30 kickoff in that game. Also for Brighton Villa, Burnley Crystal Palace, Wolves Nottingham Forest. So you can watch that on Multiview as well on Sky Sports Plus because the other games are across a whole host of different sporting channels.
