Well for Manchester United perhaps neither one thing nor the other But for Nuno, Espirito, Santo and West Ham That is a handy point on the road A point earned on probably the night of his professional life For Sungutu Magasa Who crashed it in six minutes shy of the 90 After improbably Diogo Dallo had established a lead for Manchester United For Ruben Amorim, Gary and a couple more leaked points and another evening when the top five beckoned but didn't come to pass. Yeah, real frustration. They keep having these opportunities. One point from six against Everton and West Ham at home.
1:12You can see the disappointment on the faces of the Manchester United players. But they haven't played well enough. They've let games drift. They've not got anywhere near enough urgency in the game. And with that in mind, Dallot will be disappointed having not been able to see out a winning goal. but West Ham, they desperately need points. You see some disappointed faces there. Omar Barada, the CEO. Jason Wilcox, the sporting director. They know it's not good enough. So for Amerim and United, to some extent, another evening that has rather got away. West Ham remain in the bottom three, but source of uplift here.
1:51A bubbly old point for Nuno Espirito Santo. At Old Trafford, it finishes Manchester United 1. West Ham won't block. Well, as is often the case, I suppose, when Manchester United drop points at home, they will end up being the storm. But Slava, West Ham's most impressive player on the night, got their equaliser. They were set at the half-time, not because of the goal. I mean, I liked him and Potts. I said it even before the game, they are young, they are not afraid, they are on the front foot, they are aggressive and to be fair, nothing spectacular, but deserved and I'm glad for the young boy that he scored the goal and that goal means a great point for the Hammers.
2:44he sort of symbolises really he's 22 the energy maybe that West Ham had in areas and United just did it no they didn't after getting the goal you're thinking United now go on you're playing against a team in the bottom three you're probably lacking confidence you get a goal in front and United they just take the foot off they're gasped they've made some substitutions there's something going on everyone in Old Trafford now gets a standing ovation it's all a bit silly it was a bit like a joy you're one you lot you wanted up and they're taking on away from West Ham they're stuck in and as we know wanted stay in the fight which they did just about deserved the equaliser but United's now last two home games, one goal you know you're just putting yourself under pressure and every time I watch this United team they just leave you there's that little disappointment they weren't clinical they weren't nasty enough to get the job done and West Ham, huge point for West Ham, huge point for them, big lifts but for United again People will be scratching your heads because in one minute you're giving United credit going Oh, they're making progress if they win they go fifth So now after the game the manager I guarantee is meet it a lot of it will be frustration There'll be a lot of frustration or traffic again tonight when the players had a chance when they got a goal in front Show your quality the passion quality United's last three or four games I think the standard of United's play in the last room.
4:01I think it's been desperate Really really poor and again tonight when they had an opportunity to get the job done almost frightened to get the job and frightened to get the fifth. My goodness, we're talking about fifth here by the way, not talking about top of the league, but yeah, same old problems. Yeah, the fact is, I mean, we are hearing the word that the players are disappointed, you know what I mean? I don't agree with that term, the word is, you know, you are disappointed when you've done everything. You are disappointed when you've done enough. When the opponent's keeper made a few great saves, you hit the post or whatever and that you were a bit unlucky but I didn't see that tonight no and they should be angry because it's a big opportunity wasted and it was simply not good enough not good enough not good enough they didn't create a lot of chances they created one chance in the first half that that triple chance you know but they never looked first of all you can't be comfortable when you are one up.
5:07You have to be two up or three up to like stop to put the gas, to put the foot off the gas and to control the game. One nil, you can't control the game when it's one nil because there's always a chance that you're gonna concede and they concede. There you go. Well these fans look just bored, don't they? Really? Right on cue, thank you for that, yawning at the end and that's because actually probably tonight out of all of these midweek rounds probably had the least amount of entertaining action in it, maybe Bournemouth Everton may have pushed it close but plenty of the other games had so much entertainment, nine goals at Craven Cottage, the four at St James's Park on Tuesday, leaders Arsenal winning again last night Chelsea losing ground with that defeat at Leeds Nottingham Forest pulling clear of the relegation zone with the win at Wolves let's show you the table
6:11as we've been saying Manchester United had the chance to go level on points with Chelsea it would have taken them to fifth they go up to eighth they are level on points with the champions with the better goal difference. A point not enough to lift West Ham out to the bottom three after both Leeds and Nottingham Forest won last night, but they're just a couple of points off Daniel Farker's net.
6:45Well, for Manchester United, perhaps neither one thing nor the other, but for Nuno Espirito Santo and West Ham, That is a handy point on the road. At Old Trafford it finishes Manchester United 1, West Ham 1. A very handy point for West Ham on the road here in Manchester. And in the dressing room afterwards there was plenty of applause from Nuno Espirito Santo and his backroom staff for the players. Let's hear from the West Ham goalscorer and captain, both with Pete. Well, congratulations. I'm sure that was a really hard-fought point. But what was it like to play in today? Yeah, probably how it looked.
7:31We always knew it was going to be a difficult game coming here. They come off the back of a really good result away at Palace. And, you know, we was on the other hand on the end of a really disappointing result. So we wanted to show a reaction. And I think we showed that, obviously, going a goal down, then getting back into the game, then nearly even scoring at the end. So, you know, I was proud of the team tonight, the way they fought, the way they run and got a deserved point, I think. Is that the most pleasing thing? The fact, of course, you went a goal down, but it was the reaction to going the goal down and then getting that all-important equaliser.
7:59Yeah, and that's got to be in the Premier League. You know, you can't be too disheartened when you go 1-0 down. There's still a lot of time to play and we have to believe and we have that belief. And, you know, I think we could see that and, you know, get the goal from a set piece, you know, which are really important for us. Senghi got his first goal, so he deserves it so much. I'm really, really happy for him. I can see there's a smile on your face. You got your first goal for the club, and it was a really important one as well. What were your feelings when you saw that ball going into the back of the net?
8:27Yes, definitely. The feeling is amazing. But we played a good game with the team, all, all, fight for all. And yes, I'm happy to score my first goal in the Premier League. There was a little bit of change as well, because you were taking all of the corners. But for this one, you had the opportunity. It very nearly went in as well. So in terms of that changes as well, what was sort of the thinking behind that? I don't know. And obviously Andy Irvin came on. He's a left footer as well. You know, I'm always on to Robbo to get me in the box to try and score from corners. And, you know, nearly worked an absolute treat.
9:01But, you know, I think for me, not many people really pick me up in the air. You know, I'm five foot nine or something like that. So I'm not the tallest. But, you know, I always fancy myself in the air and made that run, got the flick, thought I scored. I was gutted when it didn't go in, but then to see Songu there and put the ball into the back of the net, so delighted. And just a word on his performance today as well. No, he's been, you know, I'm sure it's been frustrating for him. He wants to play more, but, you know, in training every single day, he comes in with a smile on his face. His English is getting better, as you just heard then.
9:31And he's shown the last two games, you know, his quality. He's still young. He's coming to, you know, a new country, new teammates, new league. So for me, for the team, it's good to support him, put our arm around him, help him when he needs to. And he just shows how confident he is and his quality on the pitch. So really happy for him. And I think this is for him as well. Yeah, final word from you. Just how important was that point for West Ham? Yes, it's a very good point, important point for the team, for the championship. And yeah, we go to fight. I want to play. I want to give my best for the fans, for the club, for the coach, for my teammates.
10:07and I want to continue like that. Well, you are the player of the match, Jared. Please do the honours. Congratulations, brother. Well deserved. And of course, they touched on it in that interview, Roy, in that Bowen had taken every corner from that side until the substitution. So Andy Irving with his first touch with the corner and it worked with Jared Bowen's flick. Yeah, but he mentioned that people probably don't take too much notice and his timing is great. I think Bruno gets drawn to the ball and leaves his space there and just there's some good delivery and again, good timing. good defending getting off the line but he's on the spot you know he kept his composure there one touch finish we've seen people panic and get excited and nice and calmly stuck in the corner and deserved and he played well a great moment for any young kid to score old trafford and he'll remember that as well especially then such an important goal to get a point as well so um a big lift for west ham definitely we we spoke before a game about set plays yeah and we said we mentioned how the most important thing is delivery.
11:05And West Ham had few corners before, four or five, and it was Potts and Bowen, and none of them was good enough. The first one, proper one, was from Irving, who came from the bench, and good delivery, great timing from Bowen, but see, many United players, you are acting like you are 3-0 up. Nobody's on toes. Look, Ahmad. Ahmad is, you know. Look at Bruno. Bruno gets strong. Exactly. Look, Amad. Magasa is in front of you. It's not his job, but you have to recognise the situation. The player is free at that moment. You have to remember, Sal, when you're defending set-pieces, you've got a role in the team.
11:43You've got to multitask. Some players think, this is my job here. You've got to be ready to adapt. And United are just under heels there. But do you agree with Slavin's point there, which is basically... I'm assuming what you're saying, Slavin, without putting words in your mouth, is that if you are 3-0 up, it's like, well, if they get one here, it's fine. We're still 3-1 up with a few minutes. That's what you mean. It's not first half. And it's not first half. It's 10 minutes to go. You have a chance to go fifth after so many disappointments. Years of disappointment. Years of criticism. You know what is happening if they equalise.
12:19They're going to kill you tomorrow in a press. They're going to boo you. So 10 minutes, be like double focus. But we feel like something's going to happen, so I don't understand how the players can't feel it. No matter how... You might be playing a really poor team, but you know, anything can happen. We've just seen there with a set piece. And obviously West Ham stayed in the game and good delivery. But United... Again, you felt like in America, you're not calling a timeout and getting the United players to get up to 70 minutes and go, lads, you know the game's in the balance still. As if they were...
12:48Again, as if they were two or three. When you were both playing in that situation, I know it wouldn't have happened that, But could you sense it coming for the opposite? You're saying you don't know how the players didn't sense it. Well, your experienced players go, what you say, you smell it. You smell it. They're still in the game here. United are making substitutions. And the manager's entitled to do that. But I was looking at players coming off, and everyone, it was like, it was like they'd won the league, and they're all just all chilling out. You go, it's one. They'll get off the pitch and get somebody.
13:17Like, show some intensity to your player when you're defending set pieces, when the subs are going on, and the subs are coming on. It was all a bit like, Hey, this is this is cool. Exactly. You can't be cool when you want it up Get the job done you want it up then sure sure your quality man United More quality players than West Ham they have in general and this is not a good United team But sure that when you get one look where you go You can relax a little bit off because you got that one ill a little bit But no one anything can happen but United were all To relax get the job done exactly another thing that that the debt when we played or managed that it was perfect I consider many as a player, as a manager, a zillion goals like that.
13:59But after that, we were like, I was angry. Because let's say you are 1-0 up, 10 minutes to go. If they score, it's got to be a screamer. It's got to be from 20 yards. It's got to be great header from whoever, blah, blah, blah. But not cheap goals. We got to beat double for 10 minutes to go. But the last three or four games United have played, that sums them up. is just not quite doing enough. It's just a bit... Is that what you're saying? I can't even find a word for it. Like, okay. The new chance will come next week. Where's the frustration with the group of players? We saw it the weekend. I'm looking at the last two or three games.
14:40And I've watched the games closely. The lack of quality and intensity in their play. Yeah, they got two goals against Palace. But Palace defended... The way Palace defended them two goals. Like a pub team, really bad. United kind of got out of jail. But then you give them credit for hanging in there and sticking at it. But then tonight you go, United, a lot of praise before the game. And they get a lot of good PR. They're good at set pieces. They can go fifth. And as if this team's not ready to go fifth. Fifth in the league. They've got Wolves. They've got Wolves next. This is an opportunity. Wolves, I saw Wolves the other night.
15:12Wolves, one of the worst teams I've ever seen in the Premier League. Let's see if United can go do a job with them. And if they do get one in luck, don't sit back and go, we're playing Wolves or like West Ham tonight who are in the bottom three, going, yeah, we got one, don't worry, there's another two or three coming here. We're going to try and flex our muscles. But then he makes his substitutions and the game all became a bit stretched and a bit, which showed West Ham. Because West Ham talked, listen to us. Do you know what? United gave West Ham to it. They gave them hope. But when you're here and you're one of them, you don't even dream you're getting back into this game.
15:39But West Ham, as the game was going on, we're sitting here. Slavs had a pack of biscuits at this stage. You're more sitting there going, what? Pop kettle. No offence, but pop kettle. I had a few. Yeah, you did. I don't get it how the players don't sense it or the manager doesn't sense it going there could be a twist there, there could be a twist when you're 1-0 and the last two home games, you know, you've scored one goal What I didn't like, what I didn't like we were in football for so long that sometimes the teams that are in trouble that are on a bad run then you are winning and then you concede a goal because you are scared You are scared, it's only, oh, let's not concede, let's not concede, but you concede because you're afraid.
16:25It wasn't like this. For me, they conceded because they were too comfortable. They were sloppy. They thought, it's over, we're going to win it anyway. And that happened to them. That's worse. That's worse. That's worse. Because the one when you are afraid, you know, it's human. You're human, you know what I mean? You can't help it. And you can't. This is like, this is like. You can't relax in this game when you're wanting to look. I know I kind of played with an angry head on, but you can't relax. I see people going on and off. It was a substitution to where players were walking off. Every player all trafficked, I don't get to stand an ovation.
17:01I'm going, what are the standards of the club? Where are the standards from? Is it coming from the top, the players, even the fans? The fans are cheering everything these days. Although that, just on the fans' side of things, is just them trying to, isn't it? trying trying what to lift it yeah maybe there's a bit of that good also where's your standards where you with your demands on the club where's your expectation you want it up and it's just a bit you know again I said at a half-time I'll be you're waiting for something to happen get your top players on the ball make it happen get the job done maybe relax a trainer maybe relax a trainer neither then you're going hold on because you're not about setting standards and good habits but you want it up they give a corner where Bruno gets drawn to the ball and it's that bone one of the he said himself.
17:46He's 5 '9", one of the smallest players on the pitch. He's getting ahead of it. We're praising United last week, saying how good they are at set pieces. That works both ways. It's very good attacking. You've got to defend them. You defend them properly. At least you say it was a poor game, but you get three points. It's right, but what Mark said, I mean, you've got a point. It's like from fans' point of view, they're helping them. Like Thomas Frink said the other day, don't boo us during the game. I'm not saying to boo them, but don't be cheering. Every time a player traps to Bordeaux. He's a hero.
18:18Let's have another biscuit. We'll hear now from the United goalscorer. Here's Diogo Dalla. Diogo, it's a point. How do you feel after that performance? Obviously disappointed. I mean, with 1-0 down, with 30 minutes to go, I think we have to control much more of the game, especially at Old Trafford. We cannot get as anxious as we got after the goal. maybe a little bit more sloppy with the ball possession. So obviously disappointed with the draw. We had the game there. Why do you think that is maybe when you did go 1-0 up that you didn't manage to hold on to that? It's like looking for that consistency, I suppose, that people are asking the questions about.
19:07Exactly. It's that solution that we need to find. I mean, it can be various things. I mean, it shouldn't be like this because you're fighting 60 minutes to score a goal and then when it happens, you should keep doing the same things, even more controlling, a bit more longer possession so we can have more dominance, especially on the rest defense. When we lose the ball, we are in good positions to recover it back. And like I said, especially the play that goes to the corner that we conceded, I think that's the type of plays that we need to avoid, especially against teams that are good on the counter.
19:46And we knew today they were going to be looking for counterattacks and set plays. And like I said, unfortunately, we couldn't hold the result. But in the end, I think we have to look to ourselves. I think it's more our fault than credit to West Ham. There was a big positive for you, though. I'm hearing it's your first Premier League goal here at Old Trafford. So what was the feeling when that went in? Because first of all, it was a brilliant touch, but then as well to score it. It's a great feeling. Every time you can have the opportunity to score for a club like this, it's amazing, especially at Stratford.
20:20But in the end, the taste is not the same. I would change that for the three points without thinking. But I'm happy to help the team in any way, even if it's with a goal or whatever. But like I said, this type of results just gives you something to look at. We cannot be winning at home with 30 minutes to go. We're not controlling the game. So what's the overall feeling, I suppose, or the message now for the players? Because you've got a couple of games coming up in December. How important are those games to put you in a really good position come January? I think it's massive. We are in the time of the year where you cannot drop too many points.
21:04Otherwise, the distance to the top will be even higher. and like the season is, it is, I think the distance are short, but this will get to a time where everybody's going to start spreading each other and we want to be there. We want to be in the top four or top five and that's the aim if we have to be there. And today we had a good chance. I think that's why also the disappointment is even bigger. Thank you very much for your time. See you soon. He said anxious there when they were 1-0 up. You talked about them maybe looking too comfortable when they were 1-0 up. Is there a fine line between anxiety and comfortable?
21:44There's a bit of that, but obviously the reason you're playing for Man Utd is that you deal with these situations. You deal with one up against a team in the bottom three. You try and deal better when you're playing every time with 10 men. If you can't deal with that, then how can you expect this team to compete at the top of the table? So it's difficult after matches. Some players make excuses. He didn't, to be fair, did he? No, but he's talking about controlling the game. Yeah, you can control the game and you have to do better at set pieces. And the best way of winning the game when you're one-on-up is, state the obvious, try and get a second and third goal.
22:21Whereas if they were anxious and afraid of getting that second goal, then you worry about them why they're playing for Man United. What are they fearful of? Fearful of West Ham? Why? They weren't anxious. No, no, no, no, no. Because West Ham didn't look like scoring. They didn't look like scoring. If West Ham looked like scoring, then you become a little bit anxious. Oh, they're going to score. Maybe they're going to score. Let's sit deeper and deeper. No, it wasn't like that. This was like a bit too casual. They gave me a bit of encouragement. But again, with the subs coming on and some of the mistakes in the game came a bit stretched and they came a bit open and United lost their shape a little bit, which can happen when you're making the changes.
23:05but again, we have to give West Ham credit. They're stuck in there and they're hung in there. They got justified rewards with a goal and a big point. We talked pre-match about if you're playing three at the back with how far you want one of your centre-halves to go up to attack, the questions over Manchester United's wing-backs. If you're going to give Dallow credit as a wing-back, he was very far forward for the goal and took the goal well. Oh, you did? Yeah, of course. Took the goal well. We've seen that with lots of clubs, no, with full-backs or wing-backs. they are encouraged to get in the box and that's part of their job we talk about the attacking player whatever about their defensive player he's obviously what we see him there he's drifting into the box and what he does do well again poor from West Ham here Fernandes has got to do better for West Ham but he takes a very good first touch the first touch sets everything up again West Ham have got the bodies back but just need to be more committed here on the challenges Juan Pissacchi goes back in too far but once he takes that good first touch he's in total control then almost gives a goalkeeper the eyes then lovely finish It's nice and sharp and obviously he was delayed with it.
24:06This from Fernandes, this is a 50-50 challenge, you know. I'm very disappointed with it. Fernandes improved last 10-15 minutes when he took the ball and when he played good. But this is... I would be disappointed if I was him with my tackle, with the way he tackled here. But then what I don't understand, you score a goal at Old Trafford. why don't you continue like that the goal should lift you he then got substituted which seemed a bit of an odd that's his choice but that should lift you but that is a trait of the manager we've said it before so he's not going to change whether it be the shape the system and he does chop and change players he does it particularly defensive players that we all you play defence we're all kind of scratching our heads why make changes like that at the back when everyone's kind of settled you've got a clean sheet but that's what he does and he's going to continue to do that

25:35Welcome back to the Sky Sports Premier League podcast. Let's get back to the studio for more reaction to today's game. Another frustrating night for Manchester United. They've had old trackers. It finished 1-1 with West Ham. Now just 27 points from 20 home league games under Ruben Amarin. He's with Pete Newman, Steve. Ruben, it's a point, but what did you make of the performance tonight? I think it was not constant. We had good moments and we lost a little bit in the first half and a little bit in the second half after the goal. We lost a little bit the control of the game. We should have closed the game when we scored the first one.
26:22The game was in control. We knew let's defend far from the box. Any set pieces can be a problem with the difference of height in the team. We could do it. We could maintain the ball after the first goal. And again, we lost two points. Where do you think it sort of happened from after Manchester United scored the goal to not hold on to that, to let that other goal go in? It's just losing second balls when they kick the ball, Mateusz running with the ball, they winning the first ball and then Bowen making the runs. You can control that kind of game. We should be better with the ball after the first goal.
27:11We had a big opportunity with Cunha. We were near the box, but then the crosses were not good. The characteristics of the players sometimes inside the box are not enough to score goals from that position. So, that's it. The big positive, though, for Manchester United, Diogo Dalot, getting his goal when he did, to score that opening goal. I can understand that it feels more frustrating at full-time because you come away with a point. But for him to get his first Premier League goal at Old Trafford as well, in the style that he did it, it felt like a striker's finish, really. Yeah, but it's a goal he withdraws.
27:46That doesn't matter. With West Ham's equaliser, it was a change, a substitution change that it made, which meant that Jared Bowen was able to get in and around the area. He obviously got the header, which was rebounded away, and then it resulted into the goal. Did it feel like it sort of took the players off guard a little bit? No, it's not an excuse. The players changed, but we know what to do in every situation. The game is 83 minutes, and we need to close the game and not suffer a goal. when you're looking at the next couple of fixtures as well then how important is it to be in a good position come the new year everything is important every every game is important we need to win the next one thank you very much for your time i know you thought that number of points from the home games was a was a damning stat the other thing over their last five matches they've drawn three of their last five forest spurs and tonight and they've been ahead in each of those games.

28:44He's clearly frustrated the manager there. He's shown it with his answers. He's short and sharp. And, yeah, that'll be a concern for him the last few games and the performances. Again, even the Spurs game wasn't great. So, yeah, he obviously didn't even give Dalloc credit for the goal. A decent first touch, decent finish. So, again, that's the word tonight after the game when you thought you had an opportunity to get the feel-good factor, get some momentum into the season. and we see how tight the table is. A lot of teams inconsistent. United have a chance. A little bit, just to put a little marker down, to say, listen, yeah, we can win these type of games where we're expected to win.
29:19Obviously, all the other games happened the last couple of nights, so spotlight was on United tonight. Get that win, go up to fifth in the league. They couldn't take it. Especially, you know, see the narrative now. You know what I mean now. We are talking, they are talking. Everybody will be talking tomorrow and the after tomorrow or whatever, about not enough points, again, bad run, whatever. So during the game, it's also the reason why they should have been double focus. Everybody, you know what I mean, to stop, to give more. I'm saying again the same point. For me, I didn't see enough of them that they were willing to do everything, to die for three points tonight.
30:06with the greatest respect to West Ham. They deserve it, but they want it. But United didn't do enough after they scored the first goal. Usually, if you think when teams come to United, if you're trying to get a good result, we look at Everton. We focused on the last two couple of home games. I bet Everton and West Ham have gone off the pitch and thought that wasn't too bad. At least put demands on them physically, technically. United didn't. Again, I think United give these teams a lot of hope now. and I think the biggest insult you can have I think as a player particularly for United I still think they're quite easy to play against even the last 10 or 15 minutes where's the aggression where's the fouls even if United think well one's enough slow the game down if you think we don't have that we don't have that belief to go and get the second and third goal again we go back they did a palace find a way to win grind out a result so we're sitting here tonight and if they win 1-0 it was a bad game it was a poor game but they won 1-0 so there's a thumbs up for that but instead the word everyone's going to be using the next few days again the manager used it frustration.
31:04So how much different are these kind of discussions this season to last season for you? How much different are these performances? Was last year just terrible and calamitous, but this is kind of, as we said earlier, just a bit bleh, and they're missing opportunities? Or is it similar to last season? No, I think it is. it couldn't get any worse than last year. I still think United are definitely more of a goal threat. The stats will tell you that. We've not seen it tonight or their last home game, but you still think two at Palace, two at Spurs, two at Forest. You still think there's more goals in the team, and there is.
31:46But there's still that for the attack and threat they have. Again, we've not seen it really tonight. I still think defensively and midfield, I have huge question marks over them. I still would look at them going, I wouldn't trust or believe in this team that they can get results when they need it. Like tonight again, there was this opportunity. Especially when they... United is not Arsenal. They're not Arsenal or they're not all Juventus. They're not Atletico Madrid that are so solid that it's difficult to score. No, no, no. We were talking about... You said the best thing about United nowadays or this season is that you see goals in them.
32:23So United, to win a game, usually needs a couple of goals to score. so you can't rely we score the goal, it's enough West Ham will never score because they are very likely to concede a goal and that's their problem and that's, I don't know why they stopped the only way you can control the game the law and the manager were talking, and that's true about we didn't control the game, the only way you're going to control the game when you are one up is by keeping the ball, having the ball in your position, but on their part of the pitch. Far away from your goal, and then you can stop them from doing something.
33:04But if you let them win in second balls, if you don't have a ball anymore, long enough, and the people are coming, at least they're going to have a corner. Yeah, but you can also control the game without having possession. So if United were strong enough mentally to sit back in and go, West Ham, you need to go. But they're not solid team. They're not that. But if they had that about them going, we don't need to have possession, we can control it. and sit back in and you know what happens then West Ham if you do give it back to us I tell you we're going to get at you we've got to get a pace we've got to get a bit of power but they ended up in no man's land they didn't control the ball the game became stretched and you just again we're watching it and that's why I'm looking at the players you have a feeling you go I think something might happen here I don't know how the players don't feel that they must do and that's where you then you show your quality that's why you're at a club and that's why they're on big wages big transfers because there's an expectation there You have to deal with that.
33:56Yeah, but for that, you need to have that. It's like all the Italian teams. For that, you need Barzali, Bonucci and Chiellini in a box. And you can make as many crosses as you want, but they're going to head it out. And they'll enjoy that. I'm not talking the quality of the players, but show Euro and Mazzaruja not that kind of the players. But if United don't feel tonight they can get the second target, just get everyone back then. Just defend. But then you then okay, but the West Ham didn't score from counter-attack West Ham didn't score like when they were free against two or five against four If you sit back, but you're gonna give them corners You're gonna give them corners and and and But then be up to the other side of that But if you do lose it you go at Adams you kind of beat them in a different way on the counter-attack Yes, all right, but I have less possessions or your quality in that sense Again, when we talk about control again people that means you have to dominate possession.
34:51Don't have to dominate possession We've seen some of the best teams in the world have less possession go Yeah, and the suck teams on so West Ham had to chase the game So you sit in and then you've got really good attacking players go lads you show your quality when we get it But they didn't end up in again no man's land, but then to protect the manager a Little bit to be fair is like we were talking about do they have any options a front and if Cunha Cunha came back from the injury, right? So maybe he couldn't last for more than 70 minutes or 75 or whatever. But apart from Mason Mount, you have a feeling like they have three or four injured players.
35:31But only Seshko is missing. So you know what I mean? What about the squad? And then when the players come off the bench, I hope the players will obviously bring something to the party. I think the players that came on to United, they seem to lose the momentum with the subs. But the other thing on Slaman's point about the sort of lack of attacking options on the bench, but only Seshko is out injured, in a few weeks' time, they'll lose Mboumo, they'll lose Ahmad. I know Masraou's a defender, but really from that right flank tonight, they're off to half-cloth. Yeah, but the manager's obviously aware of that.
36:07That's something they'd have to get prepared for. but when you look at the squad considering the money that's been spent over the last few years you have to do strength and depth particularly from the attacking options again when you're trying to see a game off tonight and even when Mason Monk I look at Monk when he comes on sometimes and I know sometimes players seem to take longer to get up to speed than others he was like I felt he was like a kind of a school boy out there you're looking for players to come on with a bit of presence and go yeah give me the ball I'm a sub I'll give you a brilliant lance 20-25 minutes if anything they brought They brought the levels down at United.
36:40That seemed to be the case tonight Especially when he scored in the last game, you know what I mean? So he should be on it He should be positive and everything here you're on the stage for 20 minutes. We are one up You know, so don't have to do anything spectacular, but keep the ball there, you know Get us some free kicks corners, whatever this this and that Let's get the West Ham side of things. Here's Nuno Espirito Santo again with P You know, it's an important point for your team. How proud are you of the reaction from your players today? I think all the game, all the game, I think we should be proud of the work of the boys.
37:17They worked really hard to contain Man Utd and at the same time we went for the game. The boys worked really hard so we have to be glad. What was your feelings when that equaliser went in? I was happy. I was very, very happy. When you see the ball go inside, very happy because I think we were on top of the game in that moment. We had good momentum in that situation. We saw that you made some changes, some substitutions before you were able to take that corner. It allowed Jared Bowen to be in a space where, of course, he got the header. He thought he'd scored, but, of course, on the rebound, you got that equaliser.
37:55Were you pleased that that was able to be the change and, of course, that resulted in the equaliser? Yes, of course. And I'm very pleased of the work of Gerrard. We are very happy to have him as a captain. He led by example. He did an amazing game today. Aaron Wan-Bissaka as well seemed to make some really good clearances. Just a word on his performance tonight. Good. I think he played good. Our defence was OK. The goal that we can see comes from a rebound. Nothing to do with the organisation. and the covers were there, the hard work was there. I think all the defensive line was very, very, very positive.
38:35What will this point do for West Ham and just how important is this? It's important because it's a tough place to come and we are proud that we achieved something. It could be three. I felt that we had good momentum. Man Utd, of course, also had chances. but it doesn't change anything. We are trying to build with the urgency of the results, looking always for a better performance. But what it makes is that we'll recover faster for Brighton. When we have a good result, a good performance, the legs recover faster. So we expect, again, a tough match on Sunday but with a better recovery. Is that one of the most important things for you as well, that went a goal down but that belief was always there to get something?
39:24Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, I thought that all the game, all the performance, but especially on the second half, the way we recover, the way we play, the way we combine, we create many, many, many problems to Man United. Thank you very much for your time. Good to see you. Thank you. There have been games this season with West Ham that we've seen where probably pre-Nuno actually, where they've crumbled and they haven't had a great deal of fight and they haven't looked like they've had a lot of legs. Yeah. That wasn't the case. This was a difference. You know, this was different. They were solid at the back, especially Van Bissaka.
40:00Made some great tackles, but the whole defence was good, was focused. Apart from the situation when Man United scored, we already analysed the midfield. It was good. And up front, they were with Bowen and with Wilson. You know, he kept a few balls and all that. No, no, but the spirit is important, you know, because this is, I think, I think third or fourth time that they are coming from behind, they were losing against Everton in his first game. 1-1. Then they beat Newcastle. They were losing in the second minute. They conceded a goal. Same against Burnley. Yeah, Burnley. And now. It's fourth time.
40:39You know, it gives you belief that next time, even when you concede, you don't drop, you don't sink. you believe that you can turn it around. So more than a point. They've taken eight points from losing positions, actually, under Nuno. So, I mean, that shows the fact they've had. They've got a difficult run. They've got Brighton at the weekend. They've got Villa to come. They've got City as well. They're going to need that fighting spirit, aren't they? But also, obviously, you do have to focus just on the next game. But it'd be a nicer trip back for London tonight, especially, obviously, the South Forest winning.
41:17They saw Leeds winning, so I thought it was vital they got something out of the game. Just to keep that belief and that spirit. Obviously, huge battles ahead. We've seen, again, the fixtures you just mentioned there. Brighton, you know, brilliant team to watch. But they've got a bit of fighting spirit, a little bit of quality. They'll need players back. They're missing one or two. And if they can get to January, get maybe one or two players in there. But they're in there fighting. He's also been prepared to put some of the younger players in. Now, I realise they're not 16 or 17, but, you know, they're early 20s.
41:47But they've waited for their chances. Exactly, exactly. And they're good players. And I like them from the first time I saw Potts was when he came on against Everton in the second half. And he turned the game around. And so he's brave. Nothing spectacular. But two of them were like, they have legs. They're on the front foot. They're aggressive. They like to travel with the ball. They are playing simple passes, but good passes, you know, quick passes. And they deserve it. French guys score the goal. It does help to have legs, doesn't it? If you want to play football, I mean just legs in general.
42:24Especially against Man Utd midfield that is very... It's top quality with Casemiro and Fernandes. It's top quality, but it's not... Young guys, they have more legs than these two. They've done well tonight. And they've done well. And I'm pleased for them big time. OK, we are done here. This midweek round of fixtures is over. On to the weekend. And there's plenty coming your way in the Premier League. Ellen Road was absolutely rocking last night for the visit of Chelsea. Saturday night, they get the champions going there. Saturday night, football from five o 'clock. Super Sunday, we'll see West Ham again there at Brighton.
43:07and then Fulham against Crystal Palace and Monday Night Football, bottom of the table, Wolves. Welcome Manchester United. 6.30 Monday Night Football gets underway. Looking forward to that one? Yeah, yeah. Should be a cracking game. On that note, thank you to Roy. Thank you to Slammer. We'll see you soon. Bye-bye.
