0:06You're listening to the Sky Sports Premier League podcast. Welcome along. Saturday night football came from North London where Tottenham took on their London rivals Chelsea. And here is how things finished.

0:25Chelsea's hold over Tottenham Hotspur in this London derby continues. Their fifth victory in a row in this fixture. Enzo Morescu's side putting in a discipline display after so many questions have been asked on late about their discipline. Chau Pedro came up with a winning goal in the first half. He might have had more, but for Guglielmo Vicario. The performance of Moises Caicedo outstanding. It was his pressure that led to the cross for the goal for Pedro to convert. But Spurs' poor home run goes on. They still haven't won a Premier League match here since the opening day of the season. And Chelsea are now level on points with Tottenham in the Premier League table.

1:14Spurs nil, Chelsea one. And Daniel Sturridge, it is five on the bounce for Chelsea against Spurs. That feels like a big one, doesn't it? It sure does. And you know what? As a former player from Chelsea, I know how difficult it is to play against Spurs away. They've put in an absolutely brilliant performance today, right from the beginning, pressing from the front, causing big problems. They had control in midfield. There were some big performances. This man here, absolutely brilliant today. You see the big smile on his face. And yeah, credit to Marescu for his tactics going into this match. He got it right tonight.

1:52And one goal was enough. Daniel says Jamie that it's difficult playing against Spurs. It was as easy as it gets. That was a boxing match that had stopped it. Tottenham were so poor, I actually thought they'd have a real go tonight, but that was one of the worst performances I've seen from Tottenham. They've won three home games in the last year and I would probably put that as number one. Because in some of those other games, if we flip it to last season where they lost 4-3, they had a right go, they got after them, could have gone either way, it was exciting, really good game of football that today they never laid a glove on this Chelsea side they had no idea how to play out they had no understanding they were missing challenges you've got your two set the backs for the first goal with um you know van de ven and danso missing tackles they made it so easy and moises kaisado was just out of this world map me for he had the freedom in the park if you didn't know these scenes tell you this is a big result for chelsea tonight does this The result, the way they controlled the game, Daniel, make you think this could be a really exciting year for Chelsea?

2:55They've got exciting players. It's about it all coming together. Tonight was a night where it shows you the level they can get to. It could have been three or four tonight if the chances were going to be Vicario saves had made. So we're talking about a team here who are building on the blocks that the manager has given them. They've got momentum now. Of course, last week's performance wasn't where they would have needed it to be against Sunderland. and that loss was devastating. But tonight, we're looking at a team now building in that confidence. The football they played today will make them feel good.

3:27And that's the problem. Not just Chelsea, Spurs as well. Consistency for all these teams right now. But at least when I look at Chelsea tonight, there's a bit of excitement, a bit of flair. They're bringing on players with excitement in Esteval that can do something. Tottenham just looked paceless today. They didn't really have an idea how to get out, how to get up the pitch. And it was just too easy for them. And this year, if you actually analyse the Premier League, there's one outstanding side in Arsenal. They are head and shoulders above everyone else. The rest are all really struggling. No one's really finding that consistency.

3:54And that's why it's up for grabs for Chelsea this season. They've got that confidence. Of course, what happened in the Club World Cup has affected them because of the games and they're having to manage what they do with Poro, with Gio Pedro and obviously Caicedo's minutes. And once they get Cole Palmer back as well, imagine how much better they're going to be. There was an excitement about watching Chelsea play. But I've got to be honest, any team would have gone to Tottenham tonight and thought, what a chance we've got. Because it was just too easy for him. Yeah, you had Pedro. Excellent, wasn't he?

4:26And just been looking for that little shot of confidence, it felt like, at the top of the pitch. Did he get that tonight, Dan? Tonight doesn't give him confidence. I don't know what will. The amount of opportunities he had today to score, as well as his movements off the ball, for his positioning all over the pitch, was very good. And by the way, didn't Robert Sanchez do well with what he had to do in terms of coming and catching the ball? Yes, I mean, talk about Tottenham's set pieces before the game and that was one of the main ways they would score goals this season. I think it's eight that they've scored from set pieces, maybe five, but it's between the crosses that it was put under tonight.

5:05You're thinking, okay, we're trying to aim for the back post, we're trying to aim for the near post. He imposed himself, he used his size, used his strength, wasn't getting bullied into certain areas that he didn't want to being. I thought it was exemplary on the crosses today, came for everything and set Chelsea off on counterattacks. I thought they were very intelligent the way they set up as well Chelsea from set pieces where they put three men forward and what that did because a lot of the time when throw-ins are coming to the box if you put too many people it makes it impossible for the goalkeeper to come and sort of boss their area but they didn't.

5:33They made it slightly easier by taking players out the equation then Tottenham had to take three players back and you left it open because one thing about him he's an incredible athlete he can come and get things he's so so big and vast he's got long arms and he's got that real presence in there when he does that so excellent performance because people have doubted him and he showed today that there is certainly a good goalkeeper in there just makes it even worse for those spurs fans who are still there seeing those scenes of celebration from chelsea on their turf yet again great result for brighton earlier beating leeds 3-0 danny welbeck with his sick to the season.

6:06What a great season he is having. Arsenal power on. Only way to describe it really. Another clean sheet for them. Their first goal was a set piece. Victor Jokeres got on the end of it. Declan Rice scored their second. Mateta once again on the score sheet for Palace as they beat Brentford 2-0. Fulham needed this one today. 3-0 victory over Wolves who had Agbedou sent off in that game. Lovely finish from Harry Wilson which you can see by scanning that QR code it'll take straight to the highlights on the Sky Sports app. We see all of the weekend's goals including the four at the City Ground in an entertaining game which saw Sean Dyche get his first point as the Forest boss.

6:43They had to fight from a goal down 2-1 up with two goals early in the second half. Manchester United replied late on through Ahmad and that one goal for João Pedro. Enough for victory in this derby in North London tonight. Liverpool Villa in action later this evening and And our live games across this weekend continue with West Ham, Newcastle, City, Bournemouth and Sunderland Everton on Monday night.

7:10So it leaves us looking like this with most teams now having played 10, which is normally a time that, well, we're told we can start paying particular attention to the Premier League table. It doesn't look pretty for Wolves, does it? Just like last season, still without a win, 10 played. West Ham in action tomorrow. Forest still in the bottom three, then the two promoted sides Burnley and Leeds just outside it. Fulham climbing today, they needed that. Now a five-point gap for them and into the top half. What this does show you with Spurs being booed off by their fans, they are still in third place and Chelsea have climbed up to fourth but it's really so tight isn't it in the top half of the table.

7:56In fact, only three points from Bournemouth in second and Liverpool in tenth right now. But Arsenal, as Jamie said, is an outstanding team so far in the Premier League season. Seven points clear at the top.

8:48Welcome back to the Sky Sports Premier League podcast. Let's get back to the studio for more reaction to today's game.

8:59One back down by Moises Caicedo and João Pedro Xurli. Chelsea put their stamp of superiority on this fixture again. It's one of those goals that is not really about the goalscorer. This is all about Caicedo. It was awesome tonight. Moises Caicedo covered pretty much every blade of grass in a significant victory for Chelsea. The scoreline doesn't really tell the story of their dominance in this fixture. Spurs created next to nothing. Chelsea might have won it by many more. João Pedro himself might have had a hat-trick in the first half. This was a really good night for the Blues, winning for the third successive time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

9:45But Moises Caicedo, the player of the match, any dispute? Absolutely not. World-class. I'd go as far as to say right now the best of his type in world football. Just absolutely phenomenal. The way that he covers ground, his desire, his quality on the ball, putting out fires for his team, chasing lost causes, strength on the ball, always making the right pass. I just thought he was magnificent today. And he's a dream. When you're playing as a defender and you've got someone like that just hoovering up in front of you and him adding quality like that, it's just a dream. An absolute dream. He took a little while to settle, but now I'm thinking he is one of the best.

10:24They've had Kante, McAlealy, some of the best defensive midfield players at that club over the last few years. Daniel, would you say, is it 22, 23? 23 years ago, he's now. 23. Absolutely magnificent in every department. Now, that's what you need. If you're going to go anywhere, you're going to win competitions. You need these types of players, Daniel. Yes, it's his birthday tomorrow, so it's a good celebration for him tonight. I think he's going to be tired. Oh, yeah. You know, when you look at him and you see the talent this player has, the level he's reaching is where the money they paid for him.

10:55It matches up now. At the start, I think the first season we were probably looking at him and thinking, OK, what's he going to be? Is he going to fulfil his potential? I think at this point in time, the realization is he's close to the maximum level he could be. And he's only 20. He's going to be 24 tomorrow. So we're looking at a player who can still improve. He's been absolutely top floor. What is the talent that you talk about? Because obviously he can run. He can run all day and he can run at high intensity as well. So what has he added to that? I think it's the confidence level. I think when you pay that kind of money for a player, the expectation is he's going to come in and hit the ground running.

11:28We've seen with him, we've seen with the likes of Virts at Liverpool. Now the expectation is you come in with that kind of money, you've got to hit the ground running. I think it's taken him a bit of time to find his feet at Chelsea, understanding new teammates around, the expectations of the football club. And I think this season we're seeing a man who's stepping onto the pitch, knowing what's expected of him, knowing he's capable. He's got the technical attributes that you need from a player. He can score a goal if he needs to score a goal. He breaks up the play. He's got absolutely everything.

11:57There's nothing I can point to to go, you know what? You don't have that. And I think right now, every question that you can have towards him as a player and as a leader on the pitch, he's got the answer for. And he's got that gift as well, Daniel. He goes and chases the ball. Most players now, they want to play when they've got it. When they haven't and when Chelsea at times, if somebody gives it away, he's the first one to make that initial contact, to get after it. And it becomes a bit contagious then. And for the first goal, what he does is absolutely phenomenal because he wins three really important challenges.

12:28It's just a world-class piece of play, and it just shows, it probably tells you everything about him. I've not met him, I don't know him, but he just seems like such a selfless character. And I'm going to just show you one, Neil, because his role in it is absolutely phenomenal. I'll just highlight him here. Got himself in a really good position. He knows that if that ball gets transferred, there's Koudis there, and he can make sure he's in a nice position. Anyone tries to slide that ball in, perfect. Then once, obviously, Spurs get caught with it, He goes and engages on Jed Spence. He wins that first challenge.

12:58But this is what I love the most now. Pedro Neto is about to play a ball into here. And you can see Jal Pedro doesn't anticipate it. But look at the reaction or the difference between what Jal Pedro does and Pedro Neto does compared to Caicedo. The first thing he does is this. He's like, OK, I'm going to go and chase the ball. And I'm going to be an absolute dog. I'm going to go and win it back for my team. I might get a little bit of luck. And I'm going to show tremendous desire. and I'll slide that ball in. And that is absolutely world-class. I'll tell you one thing as well. As the attacker in that moment who's been Joao Pedro and not done the run, the players you want to play with are guys like Casado who are going to do the dirty work, quote-unquote.

13:39Joao Pedro will get all the plaudits for this goal and people will say, oh yeah, he's got another seven weeks, eight weeks down the line. There's no stat for what Casado's done there. Maybe he's going to say he's got... He gets the assist, but it's more than just the assist. It's saying that the position he'd begun in, what Jamie has just shown us, to where he ended up and what he ended up doing, you even have to have the technical ability to be able to play the pass, to break it up, to have that tenacity. That's not an attribute that I'd say probably 90 % of players in the Premier League don't have.

14:16To be able to do what he's done from where he was, to press, to win it back. Okay, cool, my mate's done it. Some guys will retreat. He's gone, no, I'm going again. I'm going again. I'm going again, I'm going again. It just doesn't run out of energy. And I absolutely love that about him. It's fantastic. And Kante was the same. They had that gift. And obviously, he's not the biggest guy in the world, but he's got those long legs and he's got this vital attribute that you can't teach, you can't buy desire. Can we see it, though, from a perspective? I want to see Gerard Pedro first as well. I want to talk about the finish.

14:45Yeah, let's show that one again, because the second angle is a bit more Spurs-related. But let's, Daniel, from Gerard Pedro's point of view. I love the way, Daniel, that he feels like he's got time in that situation when other people might really sort of lash out at that chance when it came. Well, yes, we've talked about him not having many shots before the game and potentially being low on confidence. But this is a man who's composed, who's full of confidence, it seems. In those moments, some players would snatch it. You know, it looks a very, very simple finish, which is what he's made it look and what it was for him.

15:15But for not every player in these moments, some guys, they go, I'm going to go first time. And he just missed one before. Exactly. And And that's it. You erase what happened before. You go, OK, that's happened. Whatever. I'm going again. And I think here, so sure of himself. Didn't rush it at all. He had all the time in the world and it was a great finish. But defensively from Spurs? Honestly, it's as bad as it gets in every capacity. Jed Spence does himself no favours here. Once he gets the ball, he gets really lucky there. But then he thinks, you know what, I'm going to have a trick in my own half.

15:47Loses it again. Obviously then Kaiseido does it. This is a poor piece of play. It's not a great ball by Van der Ven. Jabby Simmons leaves a really bad one back for him there. I just want to take that back, right? So you've got your two centre-backs. Kevin Danso's over here somewhere, and there's Mickey Van Der Ven. You have to win this challenge. If you lose this challenge, you're going to cost your team. He's not strong enough. He's not aggressive enough. Really poor play by Mickey. You can see there, one player wants it more. Now, I'm going to highlight this guy. There, what is... Whoa, that's a great stop there.

16:16What kind of a challenge or tackle is that when you're trying to stop a goal for your team? I'll just take it back a little bit because it'll probably help us there. He has to come across. Of course he's got a problem because Jael Pedro's behind him. But you've got to come full force. You've got to take him out and make sure you get the ball. The flip side of that, and of course he's reckless, but could you imagine Romero in this situation? He's coming across with everything that he's got and he's going to throw himself into it and he'll win that challenge. But Kevin Dancer, I want to slow it down because it's that bad.

16:43Because he comes across and it's such a half-hearted challenge. Look, what is that? And then obviously a good piece of play, But there's your two, three out your back four, all making really poor mistakes. And I don't really like Jared Spence's reaction either. He walks back as well. Really poor from the back three. I think the Mickey one is probably the worst of the three, to be honest, because he's almost tried to chop the attacker on the edge of the box. And it's like you trust yourself as, you know, defenders these days. A lot of them are very technical on the ball. And he is a very, very good player, but chose the wrong moment against the wrong player to try a trick.

17:21And Kosedo's tenacity was too much for them. And Spurs needed the first goal today, make no mistake. You could sense the crowd were edgy. Obviously, they had to make the substitution early in the game. And it backfired for him because Javi Simmonds looks a little bit lost, especially when he goes out to that left wing. It feels like he needs to play maybe centrally. They had no pace going forward. So that didn't really work. And they lost their rhythm, everything you probably worked on for the last couple of days. But it's been a really bad, really bad four days for them. Obviously losing at Newcastle in the Cup, you want to win another Cup.

17:51I think it's really important for Thomas Frank. And then this awful home record, three wins in the last year, is obviously carrying on now. And it doesn't look like getting any better. Very disappointing night for Spurs. Punished by that Moises Caicedo rampage and that quality finish from João Pedro. And that was all it took for Chelsea tonight. More reaction to come. We'll speak to Enzo Moreska and from the goalscorer as well.

18:43And in another first, Sky Sports can now offer multiple live matches at 2pm on many Sundays through the season. To become a Sky Sports customer, head to sky.com. For now, though, let's get back to the Sky Sports Premier League podcast.

19:03Big moment, that, for Enzo Mareska. I thought he was going to say big moment there in terms of kicking a bottle, mate. I mean, yeah, he was absolutely buzzing. And I think relieved too at the end of the game. You saw how happy he was with him and Rhys James having a chat and talking about the performance. I think days like today are always going to make you feel good as a manager when, you know, you suffer defeat, you've got your back against the wall and there's question marks around everything. And yeah, he'll feel really good going home tonight. Which is why you saw those celebrations that you did at the end and João Pedro, the goal scorer, was right in the middle of them.

19:35And I'm delighted to say he's ready to talk to us live now from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Congratulations, João, on the victory and on the goal as well. Judging by the celebrations, that one meant a lot to you and your teammates tonight. Thank you. I think I need it on this goal because a long time I don't score and I think the team expected that from me. And I think today I could score and I'm very happy. Were you starting to get a little bit worried, João, that the goals weren't coming too regularly for you? No, I think I always want to help the team. Of course, with goals or assists, but first I need to play well, because I think if I play well, the goals are going to come.

20:26The important thing is always to Chelsea win games, and I'm very chill about the goals. Joao, Mano, it's Daniel Sturridge here, my man. I would like to ask you, you talked about, you know, in the first question, your goal. And you said you were very happy you needed that goal. Over the last few games, you know, you've not had many shots even. How does it feel when you're on the pitch and you're going through that type of moment in comparison to tonight where you had many shots? I think in my position, if you don't shoot, if you don't shoot, you get frustrated. But I think you need to not look just for yourself.

21:07I think you need to see if the others get a chance. And I'm kind of a player, if I don't shoot, I'm going to create the space for the others. But like I said, if Chelsea win, I will be happy. But of course, I always want to score, but sometimes it's not going to happen. Like I said, the last games I didn't shoot, but also I had problems. I think everyone knows that. My answer, the mister said, I stay out from the national team, but I'm getting better. I try to improve and today I was happy to score. And like you said, today I had a lot of opportunities, but I missed. But if you see the other time I had the chance to shoot, I passed to Jamie.

21:51So I played for the team and today I won, I scored and I'm happy, always. Giao, congratulations. Hopefully you've got a screen in front of you there. I just want to show you your goal. Did you give Moises Caicedo a big cuddle for what he did for you here today? No, I said to him, I invite him to a dinner. He can choose the restaurant. Talk us through your finish though. He obviously does so well, but then your finish is really calm. Yeah, for the first, I had a chance before and I finished in the near post. In the second time I had the chance to score, I just tried to put over him because I saw him in the first action, he dropped.

22:35So I said the next time I'm going to shoot on above of him and I was happy to score. And Joao, for you now, moving forward with the team, in those attacking moments, it's up to you and the attacking players to create goals. What do you think it's going to take for you guys to consistently create and score goals? I think if you see the team, everyone has participated in the goals in the Premier League, in the Champions League as well. I think Enzo had two goals, Moises had two goals. I think we in front, we are very strong, but I think we're going to improve a lot until the end of the season. I think we need to keep like this, but we have to be more consistent to win games every week.

23:25And in the end, we can fight for something. And do you prefer, Joao, to play as the number nine like you did tonight or sometimes play a little bit further back as the ten? I just want to play. I want to be on the pitch always. But, yeah, I think it depends on the game. Sometimes I can play like a 10, sometimes I can play like a 9, like today. I think I run a lot behind. I make it difficult for the defenders. But when I play, I prefer to play like a 9. If you have a connection, you're going to find me. Well, then we'll see more goals and we'll see more of that celebration as well, João. We like that celebration.

24:09My friend, I need to know why you do this celebration. Because I did it in the studio. I did this in the studio. Now I need to see why you do this. Now, one day, in the time I was in Brighton, my friend, he texted me and he said, hey, you need to celebrate like this. So from that, I started celebrating like this. And now I'm going to keep celebrating like this here in Brazil. Yeah, very good. Daniel enjoyed that. And just one more question. Did Moises say yes to dinner? And where are you going to take him? Yeah, he said yes. I think we go to Novkov. Oh, very good. Desil, my friend! Desil, you need this!

24:49They gave you a shout-out, Desil. Much love and respect, brother. So, yeah, I'm going to wait him to say which day he want to go. And then you go. Yeah, well, maybe not tonight, because everyone will be waiting there for you now. So, Joanne, congratulations and thank you so much for talking to us. Thank you. Thank you so much, guys. Well done. Good luck. I thought you turned into a dull boy there at one point. I had to tell him because, you know, sometimes the language, I had to see what time, I had to test the temperature to see what type of time he was on. He's got lovely energy about it as well, hasn't he?

25:20What I really loved about that was he took it away from himself and he talked about the team. You know, players like him are special football players in that they understand their capabilities, but they also will say, I want my team to be better. I want to improve my teammates. And you can see the mentality of him like, hey, I can score goals, but I played to Jamie Kittens at the end, you know. Sometimes there's been a criticism of him of doing that a little bit too much in recent games, I think. Because I think sometimes when you're used to being that type of guy, who's a team guy, you make the right play.

25:51It's almost like in NBA, people can say, oh, LeBron James isn't a goal getter all the time, but he makes the right play. That's what he chooses to do. And I think with him in these moments, it's saying I can be selfish or I can be selfless. And I think in his style of play, when Cole plays, I play forward. He can't wait to have a comeback. When Cole plays, I'll play up front and I'll do that. But I have to be the guy who's going to create and help the team be better in the attack. And that's what I really love about him. He's got so much capabilities as a player. His technique is so good. And I really, really love his style.

26:22Six big chances Chelsea had tonight. So we said before that, you know, 1-0 didn't really tell the full story. And we can show you some of those moments. They might have had many moments. Yeah, this obviously was the one he was alluding to here. This is a good chance for him. He just tried to do the keeper with the eyes. Vicario, in fairness to him, if he'd not played, this would have been 4-5-0. He was that good today. You know, and he kept his team in the game. And they were hoping for that one moment. That's a really good piece of forward play there, just getting across Kevin Danso. This is another one.

26:54this is a great opportunity for them. I think this is the one when he slides him in, isn't it? I can't quite remember. Yeah, I think this is a Jamie Gittins chance, this one. And that's what he's talking about, not being selfish, helping other players. He could have hit that with his left foot, he doesn't. Jamie Gittins obviously just leans back a little bit. But lots of good moments, especially for him. And I feel the fact that they got a red card, didn't they, to Liam DeLapp this week. I bet the manager, because he's been playing with an injury. He's been hardly trained. He's been on limited minutes because of the injuries he's had.

27:24And he just shows you, you need him, Daniel. That was a big chance for him. If I'm him, I'm going home thinking I should have had a hatty tonight, of course. Some of those chances, you're like, man, if I could have had that one back. But it shows you he's in the right position. But we see as well how quickly he's become so important for Chelsea. And yes, because Liam De Lape picked up an injury because they let Nicklaus Jackson leave. But he's the guy. He's the man. And he's going to have to step up and give the team what they need, which is goals, creativity. which he's doing, but this is the first week today we've seen that he's had a lot of shots in one match.

28:00He struggled to even have shots or, you know, be in moments to be able to do that. And I think as an attacker, it's important for your team to give you opportunities to be able to help the team win games. And right now, he's the bonafide main man. There's not any pressure on him. Of course, Liam's out. So when Liam gets back, it will be intriguing to see whether the manager will go with both of them, whether he will drop Gerard Pedro back, because as he said, he's flexible and he can go in any position. And they create a lot of chances, don't they? You know, if you look at Enzo Fernandes, the opportunities that he gets into, the good spaces that he gets into.

28:31And then you add into the mix, obviously, Cole Palmer. You can see the smile on his face when he's thinking, when he comes back, because he sees the game differently. Everything slows down when he has the ball. He plays the right pass at the right weight. So they've got a lot of qualities. Esteval as well is going to be a sensational player. So if you look at the chances, Garnaccio was a bit critical in the Florida game. He did some nice bits today as well. So I think from their perspective, They'll be delighted. There's a big three points for them today and they're right in the mix. I think lastly as well, clean sheet.

28:58You know, defensively, last week there was question marks. There was question marks in the Sunderland game. Like, you know, you conceded that goal late on. Today they were professional. The experience, you know, they were communicating with each other. They were ensuring that they go home. Because Spurs had moments towards the end. It looked like, oh, the tide's changing a little bit here. I didn't see that, you know. Well, you know, a little bit. Come on, we're not going to make out like they were just out there running around. I think that, for me, Chelsea's defence, they'll leave now thinking, OK, we've got to build on this now, clean sheet.

29:29Let's hear from the Chelsea manager at this point, because this was quite a significant victory for him as well. Enzo Mareska now with Patrick Davison. Enzo, resilient, tough, organised. Was that a Chelsea performance that had almost everything? Yeah, it was a good performance for sure. to come in this stadium against this team in this moment where they look very, very good. You need this kind of performance to get the three points. How key was your out-of-possession work? How brave did you have to be with your press to give them the problems that you did? I think you have to be brave on the ball and off the ball.

30:09For sure, off the ball we were very, very good, but also on the ball we created many chances. and I think half the ball, even two games ago against Liverpool, I think the team was top of the ball. So just we won, we are very happy for us, for the fans that it's a big derby and we move on. So how did you get the consistency now? You mentioned that Liverpool game, brilliant. You have the lower couple of weeks later of Sunderland, then the high of this day. Is that just a young team? Is that just the Premier League? How do you explain that? I can't explain because I don't have the solution. When I don't know things, I prefer to say I don't know.

30:50I don't know if it's one thing or the other thing. For sure, in the moment that we are able to become consistent, I think we can be more close to the top. You played with a lot of top midfielders, you coached Man City. Moises Caicedo, key to the goal, key to the win today. How good is he? He's top. In this moment, I think him with Rodri, they are the two best defensive midfielder probably in the world. I talked about the out-possession work. You mentioned how good were you on the ball as well today. Was it just the fact that you were only 1-0 up that frustrated you slightly and worried you slightly?

31:37Yeah, because especially in England, everywhere, 1-0, it's no finish. Anything can happen always. I think today we could have scored probably one or two more, and the game with 2-0, 3-0, probably it's much more relaxed for us. But again, we are very happy. It's 1-0 away against Tottenham, clean sheet, so we are happy. Does the clean sheet really please you? You spoke before the game about maybe searching for a partnership in the centre of that defence. Maybe you stumbled on something today with Fofana coming back in. Absolutely, yes. We said many times that West is top defenders for us. I don't know now, but before the game, we were the team in the Premier League with more goals.

32:21The problem is the goal we conceded, that there are too many, and we need to be defensively solid if we want to be there. Fourth now, Enzo. Everything's right with the world again after last week's crisis. It's funny how it goes. But how do you stay, I don't know, like level and calm when it fluctuates like that? I mean, certainly from our side, I guess. To be honest, it's the first thing I said to the players after the game. I said we went from 11 to 4 after the game. It's a matter of maintaining, you know, balance. In the last six games, seven games, we won six and we lost one just against Sunderland.

33:00And everyone, you know, was saying that something was wrong. For sure, for sure, there are things that we have to do better. I think we are in the right path. Six wins from seven, maybe consistency is not a problem. Maybe. Thank you. Thank you. Well done. Cheers. Thank you. Well done. Yeah, I think this season, probably more than most, we have to resist snap judgments. This is probably a bit rich coming from me, but there we go. All of us, we'll do it. This is Chelsea so far this season then. And those 10 results, five wins on the board, some difficult fixtures along the way, lots of London derbies already as well.

33:42Is on the right path enough right now? Yeah, he is. Like I said before, he's building the blocks and trying to find the rhythm. You know, the question that you got asked then about even just the defensive partnership is like when you're dealing with injuries within a squad, which all teams have to do, you're not able to get that rhythm and that consistency. So I think for him now, like he's talked about, he's got so many top young players, players that are maturing as the seasons and the games go by. And I think, you know, this is one performance that they can look at and be very, very proud of because it was very professional, showed experience, showed a lot of composure.

34:24They were tenacious all over the pitch. And it could have been an easy one where the game starts and Tottenham's fans and the occasion and everything, you know, sort of makes them get a little bit, you know, antsy, a little bit like, oh, I'm not too sure. But they were so sure of themselves today. They performed amazing and I'm looking at them. They can leave here thinking, you know what, boys, we just got to keep, we got to keep doing this every week. I suppose, you know, in terms of the snap judgments, all we can really say is, are they better or worse than last season? We're 10 games in, but they're without Levi Colwell and they've had a large jump without Cole Palmer as well.

34:56Imagine the start of the season, you're preparing, you've just won the Club World Cup, you're starting to think, OK, what's my best 11? And then your best central defender picks up a really horrendous, cruciate ligament injury. They've never once complained, they've actually never heard him mention it. Then obviously Cole Palmer's picked up an injury and then the laps had an injury. So then you're having to manage minutes. You've got Caicedo that's having to play for injury a little bit as well, and Jao Pedro, got to keep changing the two centre-backs. And I mentioned Fafana before the game, I thought he might be a bit of a weak link.

35:24He wasn't tonight. I thought he did exceptionally well alongside Chalabar. And when you think how things can change, Chalabar's a great example for anyone to just go, you know what, sometimes the grass isn't always greener. And he went to Palace, thought he might have to leave these surplus requirements. Right now, he's probably there, arguably their number one centre-back. And it's whoever plays alongside him. And it just shows you he's got the right mentality. He's done a good job. He's been at the club since he was sort of six, seven years of age. And you need those sort of types of players.

35:49So I still think they're a little bit away off from contending to win the Premier League. but I certainly think they're going in the right direction.

36:23So if you're a fan of an EFL club or if you just want to keep up to date with what's going on in the Football League, search for Essential EFL and give us a follow.

36:37This is the Sky Sports Premier League podcast. Let's get more analysis of the game and return to the studio.

36:51Well, not the sound you'd normally expect to hear with the team in third place in the Premier League table, but that is explained a little bit by Tottenham's poor start of the season in front of their own fans. Let's see what Thomas Frank made of this defeat by Chelsea with Patrick Davies. Well Thomas it felt like this had the chance to be a big night for Tottenham but as we heard from the reaction of the supporters at the end this ended up being a really frustrating one How did you see it? What did you make of it? Yeah which is a fair point I understand that I think the fans started very well I think they really I actually think they did everything they could to back the team throughout the game in a game where we didn't perform well we met a Chelsea team that was better than us on the day that's it and we need to work hard to keep getting better I would say clearly we couldn't match their energy and intensity I think that was part of it today unfortunately now we should get around it, get things right and be ready for Tuesday If you asked most people to talk about the qualities of a Thomas Frank team they would probably say energy and intensity.

38:06So does it really hurt you to not see that? There's a lot of things that hurt me today. I think we create very, very little. I think I've never been mentioning a team that's created that little. So that's part of many, many things. And sometimes you can overanalyze too much. I think definitely we lacked the freshness today, unfortunately. Was this home performance like other home performances we've seen, do you think? Or did you see this as a separate thing, maybe? I think we knew, of course, when we don't win home, this will be the narrative. I think, for example, the Villa game was a completely different game.

38:47I think we put a very competitive performance in. I don't think we did that today. Losing Lukas Bergwahl almost immediately, how much did that affect the game plan? Of course, it's never perfect, but it's part of it and we need to be able to manage it. Javi Simmonds came on and then came off again a little later. Is he, maybe like some others in the league who've come from Germany, struggling with the pace of it? Is he struggling for confidence? Why is he finding it so difficult? No, I think there's a couple of things. There's a reason why we started him on the bench. Of course, he just played two games for short turnaround, 90 minutes Wednesday night.

39:27for him it's not of course not that he can't play but that extra freshness energy touches decision-making when it goes quick is part of also be physically mentally fresh so I don't think there's too much into that I think that that's just the way it is the crazy thing is you're actually third in the Premier League you've taken the team that were 17th last season into third and yet to be in the stadium today with the atmosphere it didn't feel like that so How do you knit this together Thomas? How do you get the home form in line with what you're doing away from home? Yeah, I think we just need to keep working very, very hard on it.

40:04No doubt about that. I think it's clearly we are building something that needs to add a lot of things, but there's something that's very good today. Unfortunately, it was not good. And we are very, very, how can you say, irritated and frustrated about that, but we just need to get head down and work and continue working. In time, are you really confident that you can build a team that not just wins, but that this team, this group of supporters really enjoy watching? Yeah, I'm not in doubt. Thank you. Welcome. Not in doubt that is going to happen, but it might take some time judging by what we've seen from Spurs tonight.

40:43And this continues their miserable form at home over the last 12 months in which West Ham are the only side of those Premier League teams who've picked up fewer points at home, not including, of course, the three newly promoted sides. These are the ever-presents. Three wins in the last 12 months. Manchester United, Southampton, and this season the only one is Burnley. Is this got to be the biggest priority for Thomas Frank as he tries to win the affection of Spurs fans at the start of his reign. Yeah, and that's why I felt this was the one. It's actually a good one where they maybe fall in love with him because it hasn't been an easy marriage so far.

41:26They've struggled, certainly at home, and that's what you need to get the manager and the fans together to embrace what you're trying to achieve. Away from home, the away fans probably love him. They think he's amazing. Look at the football we're playing. We're scoring, beating Everton 3-0. At home, it's been a different story. I will say I think people say he's a pragmatic manager I think that's lazy to call him that and I think if you've watched his Brentford side over the last few years certainly when they were in the championship they played exciting football I remember when they were front three they had Umbermo Benrahma Watkins and I used to think what a good side they are to play he came to the Premier League realised he had to adjust under Brentford and make sure they stay in the Premier League that was what he does he sort of adjusts to what he's got at his disposal right now Tottenham last year couldn't win a home game they were so wide open it was exciting at times, but it was also chaotic.

42:11So he's thinking, how can I get the best out of this side? He's playing, and a lot of fans probably don't like it. They're going with Paulina and Benton Kerr as a defensive shield in front of that back four to protect them, to make sure they're not too wide open. The problem is then going forward, what have you got? You've got no Solanke, your best centre forward. You need him fit as quickly as possible. You've also got, you haven't got Kulicheski who is, for me, their most attacking threat, the best player, the someone that can do something. And you also then, you haven't got James Madison. Apart from that, you look at the other players that he's got at his disposal have not been good enough.

42:42You know, like I look at Brennan Johnson, have they done enough to go, yeah, I should be in that team? Today, I think the substitution didn't work when he bought on Javi Simmonds. He's finding it hard to adjust. But Tottenham right now are in a bit of a rut where they're trying to be difficult to beat at home, but they've got to find a way of being a bit more expansive. But he's probably thinking, if I open this team up and maybe take out one of those defensive midfield players and be more open, we could get chinned even more. That's the dilemma he's got. but Kouders is the only one that I'm thinking right now that would you be a bit nervous playing against?

43:12Apart from that, they haven't got anyone else, Daniel. Do you think style matters? Because, as we said, they're third right now. I mean, we've had this conversation with Tottenham around Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho, Nuno, came and went pretty quickly. It's what you want, you know. Tonight, we can say, cool, it didn't work, but they're third in the Premier League. So, do you want results or do you want to look good on the pitch? Do you want to lose 4-3 like Posse Coglu did? Or do you want to lose 1-0 without laying a glove on Chelsea? And that's it. I think they've brought a manager in who's been brilliant in the Premier League.

43:44He's come into a club where, you know, last season they weren't great at all. And he's managed to get results with them so far. It's not as if there's been a load of additions that you could say, OK, you know. So he's done a great job so far. It's just about sorting out the attacking side of things. I think those two in midfield, if that's what you're going to go with, the players in front have to be free and be able to create things. You know, the likes of Umbermo and Wissa at Brentford, those were guys who you wouldn't have anticipated two guys close to 20 goals, 20 plus goals in one season.

44:19So Tottenham are looking for their two goal getters in that attacking three slash four. If you have a number 10, who's our creative source and who is the guy we can rely on for goals? And right now they don't have that. He had a better front three at Brentford last year. You know, if you go with Shardovisa and Nberma, it was a better front three than what Tottenham could assemble right now. You know, by far. And he's thinking to himself, I need a bit more quality. You know, and Solanke's not on the pitch, as I say. So they're finding it really difficult. They've got to get that balance right. I'll be...

44:46It personally doesn't bother me with the two defensive midfield players. I think Benton Kerr is so underrated. I think he's top quality. But I think he'll have to. Probably because a little bit of the noise that's surrounding those two players, he'll probably change it. Perhaps Sarr came into the game today or into the pitch and played. Did he do enough to really warrant a claim and be as disappointed as what he was last week when he hasn't played? No, he didn't do anything in the game. So Javi Simmons might need a little spell out of the team. Bergvau's desperate for a go, isn't he? When he comes back from his concussion, he was devastated.

45:15In fairness to the manager, you set up your team and you think, well, we've got a good plan. Bergvau was never going to be an out-and-out left winger. He might have come into those little number 10 areas and given you something different. So that throws your plan off straight away. but he's got to do better at home because the Spurs fans deserve it. They pay big money, they get behind their team and they want to see a bit more exciting football than what they're getting right now. Yeah.
