Key claims and notable examples
- Wedding server dress-code conflict (AITA, Sept 2022): Bride repeatedly targets a 19-year-old catering server for “too flashy” makeup/jewelry and tight uniform, threatens cops, and gets her sent home. Verdict: bride is the asshole. Update (coworker): uniforms vary by weather; staff was short; server wasn’t fired (left early, still paid); jewelry/makeup rules allow simple items; server was 18; other wedding chaos included flirting father, intoxicated guests trying to steal, and groom/groomsmen leaving blunts.
- “Hear-me-out cake” workplace sexual harassment (Relationship Advice, July 2025): 22-year-old diner waitress’s face is put on a cake by 18-year-old coworker for Instagram; she reports it. Update (20 days later): manager screens video, reworks schedule, and she confronts him; he apologizes but blames being drunk; video deleted; he completes sexual harassment training; coworkers side-eye her.
- Bali destination wedding no-show (AITA): Friend Gemma and husband skip wedding while using paid trip; OP invoices and sues. Update: OP discovers Gemma cheating via photos; judge awards OP full amount back; Gemma then posts abusive stories; OP posts proof photo and taunts them, leading to her frantic backlash.
- Disney vs Hawaii travel dispute (AITA): Husband tries to avoid Disney; wife books Aulani; car accident/whiplash used to postpone Hawaii; ends back at Disney. Update (later): husband suspects exaggeration, wife tries to move to Orlando; husband refuses; she’s caught manipulating.

Transcript
Automatic transcript. May contain errors.0:00Hello and welcome to Smosh Reads Reddit Stories. I'm Shane, and today is the episode so many of you have been asking for for so long. It is the update episode that focuses on stories we have read on the show before that have since been updated. So we're going to be revisiting stories with all these updates, either updates we missed the first time or have come out since the episode aired. And I am joined by two people who love a good update, Tommy and Courtney. Yeah! Okay. Yes. Yes. Update. Hello. Ever heard of a shape like this? Whoa. Whoa. I think this is my favorite shirt I've ever seen you wear.
0:40Hey, thank you. You know what reminds me of the mask when he does the loom-jiggy-boom-boom-jiggy? Yes. Yes. So this is how this episode is going to work. I'm going to read the summary of the story from the episode that it's from. And if you want to go back and listen to it, we're going to link all of the stories below. from all their episodes. We'll discuss the original story a bit. And then I'll read the update that we didn't cover on that show and any relevant comments. Okay. Update City. Now, so many stories have been updated since we've read them on this show. So we haven't covered all of them in this episode, but don't worry, we'll probably do that down the line.
1:24Before we move into this, do you guys have any favorite updates or any update stories that we've read on the show that you just think about all the time. Hmm. Man. I mean, this was from, I believe, our Boston live show. Our Boston live show, there was the update to the hummus story. Yes. And that update was so funny. I love that hummus story update. Very good. I hate to say it because obviously I hate this in real life and I hate it for people when it happens. But whenever there is an update where it turns out someone's cheating, it always kind of blows your mind. Especially when like you don't suspect it in the first story.
2:08For sure. We had one a few months ago where it was like a wife was like, yeah, my husband, I think he's going and eating hot dogs every day. I think he's going down to 7-Eleven and eating a hot dog. Hot dogs, hummus, what is with you people? It's kind of like, wait, what? Okay, like talk to him. And then the update is like, oh, he's having a full-on affair. Okay. All right. My favorite is when there's an update and it's like, it's an affair and the update is the woman getting away. Do you know what I mean? There was one getting out where it's like this woman, I can't remember the exact original story.
2:45It was like she was pregnant with their next child, sees on his phone that he was fully having an affair with her best friend. She got all her ducks in a row, lawyer situation. She was able to get out. She had already had a place that she could live, like her dad's home or something. And potentially a new special friend at the end. It was very, very, I was like, yes, she wins. We love to hear it. There's many different kinds of updates because the really positive ones are also so nice. when people surprise you with being so kind and understanding. Wait, you know what story? I don't know if it has an update, and I hope to God that this does.
3:25The koala piss chlamydia one. Whoa, yes! Do you remember that story? Yes! Yes, that was a confusing one. She was like, I guess it could have been the koala, and it just kind of ends going... Someone who, this is someone's first episode of this show that they're listening to. They're like, what is this show? What kind of shit are you guys reading? If someone's choosing the update episode for their first one, okay, you're brave. Hey, brave. All right, let's hop into our first story. Yeah. Sorry to do that again, I coughed over you. Let's hop into our first story. Yes.
4:02Yeah. Yeah. Yes. All right. So this first story comes from Am I the Asshole, posted in September of 2022. The original story was, am I the asshole for kicking a server out of my wedding? This came from a Walk on the Wild Side episode from earlier this year with Amanda and Olivia. The summary of it is, the OP, the bride, planned her dream wedding down to her dream catering company. The wedding guests were told to wear dark colors and minimal makeup so that OP and her husband stood out. OP gets mad that one of the servers is wearing too much eyeliner and also had diamond studs in her ears, a flashy ring, and one of those ugly nose studs.
4:46OP then complains that the server's staff uniform was too low cut and her pants were too tight, claiming the server was super distracting. OP finds the server's boss and asks that the server be dealt with because she was super distracting. The boss apologized and called the server back into the kitchen. During dinner, OP catches the server back out serving food. OP calls the boss over again and asks if that server can either work in the back or go home. The boss said they were short-staffed and would see what could be done. A couple hours go by and everything seems fine until OP spots the server now behind the bar.
5:24OP called the boss out one more time and said if the server didn't leave, she would be calling the cops. The boss relents and tells the girl to go home. OP's husband and mother-in-law said she was acting crazy and got a college kid fired over nothing, but OP's mother and maid of honor backed her up saying it's her wedding so she can do as she pleases. To quote OP, it's my wedding and I don't want someone overshining me and the server should know she's at work and not dress up so much. I do feel kind of bad because she was pretty young. I believe she was 19 if I recall. I remember this story very well.
5:56And the OP, the bride is definitely in her mid-20s at least. Yeah, and it seemed very clear from the story that the boss was just kind of like, all right, just kind of go to the back for a little bit. that like, you know, just let her do her thing, you know. Yeah, pretty embarrassing. I just remember like having so many feelings about that one because it's like, oh, Pete, like you are the bride. You, if you're worrying about this person and fixating and worrying about them, you're worrying about the wrong things at your wedding. Like you already won. You're having your day. It's your day. And the fact that you're like her uniform, it's not like she chose to wear whatever and chose, like, this was her uniform that she has no control over.
6:38And saying, like, it's so, it is so problematic of, like, dress codes and all those things, too. Deal with her. Deal with her. Put her away! Yeah. Yeah, it's just kind of like, I don't know, it's like, what do you think people are thinking right now? Like, you think everyone's like, wow, that's one girl. They should get there. That hot 19-year-old sure is hot. No. Yeah. And this is like one of so many types of stories we read where a bride is like obsessed with one person at the wedding. And there are many stories too that we read where someone wears an extravagant dress and wears white to the wedding.
7:18And that's a different story. But in this case, it's like, dude, this 19-year-old's just trying to get by, just trying to do their job. Just trying to serve. Probably exhausted. Also, 19-year-old working behind the bar? Hmm.
7:33And you know it's probably happened more than once when the boss is like, all right, just like we'll do our routine where we'll pretend like I'm sending you back and then you keep working, whatever. The verdict was asshole for the OP. Yeah. Obviously. Yeah. Yeah, I think that tracks. I mean, it's like you just said, it's always like it's one or the other. Either someone's focusing too much on this person that doesn't need to happen or that person is like, I'm going to be married today, not you. It's like, okay, you need to not be here. I don't know. I guess you could have been like, can you take off the nose ring?
8:11But what if it's healing? But also like a nose... Who cares? I'm not going to a wedding and going, wow, that person's wearing a nose ring. They're completely outshining the bride. Exactly. OP also asked everyone to wear dark colors and minimal makeup. Oh, oh. Can everyone wear a potato sack and fuck their hair up? Yeah. I need everyone to wear muumus. Yes. Every person wears muumus. I got slippers out the door. Yeah, and that's the vibe, and then I'll be dressed gorgeously. No, it just reads as, sadly, just a very insecure human. Now, what do we think this update is going to be? Okay, here's the chaotic theory I have.
8:53What if OP doubled down and is like, no, look, here's a picture of this person in the background. Look, see? And like maybe blurs their face or something. Yeah, that could be. That's the chaotic one. Because they did get an asshole verdict and that's got to hurt. So they're going to defend themselves maybe. That is very possible. I want an update from the 19-year-old. Yeah. And she's like, I got let go from this job and it upended my life. But now I'm an animator for Walt Disney. and he's back. And he's back, and I make a billion dollars. I think it's one or the other. I think it's either it's OP doubling down, and it gets worse and worse.
9:35Maybe it could even be like to divorce levels, where OP can't let this shit go, and it snowballs into other shit. I could see that being a possibility. I could see the 19-year-old being like, hey, I found this post. This was from two or three years ago. I'm like, graduated college now, and blah, blah, blah. here's more to the story that people didn't know. I hope not. And it's like just really revealing how stupid the day was. I think it's one of those two. It has to be. I will be surprised if it's something else. If maybe it's like the husband updated it or like, or OP is like, you know what?
10:12I have learned from my ways. And now I'm - I'm only ugly now. Now I only ugly. Now I got a nose stud and I love it. And I respect everyone who has nose studs. 11:30Back to the show. Our update. Our update came in the comments of this story from a co-worker of the server. Okay. Wow. Close to another. Post to work. Probably even more valid because now this is someone who's like, I know this coworker, so I saw this all happen, but I am an outside perspective. All right. Not gonna lie, this sounds like a story my coworker told me. After sending the post to my work group chat, I confirmed this is in fact the same wedding. And I have screenshots of the texts I got during the wedding. Oh, this is good. I got juices. Juicy. We have receipts from the story. Juicy.
12:14Just to clarify some things I saw in the comment, though. One, our uniforms change depending on the weather. This was a daytime wedding in 90-degree heat, so lightweight, long-sleeved tops. Two, the wedding was a three-and-a-half-hour drive for most of us, so our usual team of 15 people was cut to nine. I wasn't there because the drive was too long, and I'm not comfortable driving that far late at night. Three, she wasn't fired, but she did have to leave early. but that's not a bad thing because that means she didn't have to clean up after the wedding and still got paid. Okay. Four, jewelry is allowed at our job.
12:50It just has to be simple, which is what she had on simple jewelry and her engagement ring. Flashy rings. Oh my goodness. That's the issue. She had an engagement ring. She had an engagement ring, which is adjacent to getting married. Yeah. Nobody at this wedding was allowed to be engaged. No. Or married. Not to break it off. And you have to swear to never get married in your life. Because that would be outshining her in the long run. Exactly. Five, she was actually 18 and in high school. She can bartend supervised since she's 18. Okay. I don't know those laws. Okay. Six, makeup is allowed. It just can't be crazy makeup.
13:32So eyeliner, specifically winged eyeliner, which is what she had on, is in fact allowed. Seven, we buy our own uniforms and are reimbursed for the cost. She accidentally shrunk her pants and hadn't gotten the chance to get new ones. My coworkers and I are all laughing at this. OP seemingly left out the fact that one of the fathers kept flirting with the staff. Some of the guests got shit-faced and tried to steal from the bar. OP's wedding planner walked into the kitchen at one point and almost broke down crying. And the groom and groomsmen got way too high and left half-smoked blunts all over the place.
14:07Whoa. So wouldn't you know, they were all assholes. How about that? And how about that? And so how about that? Wouldn't you know? You gotta save your joints. What are you doing? Yeah. It must have been real high. Yeah. It must have been so high. So high. Man, wedding catering must be just a journey every day. Luke does that sometimes. Really? Every once in a while, he'll do a little freelance moment. And every time he comes home, he's like, it was crazy. out there. It's always like a little war story. And I sit down and I'm like, tell me about it. Oh my God. It's wacky. I don't know what happens to people at weddings.
14:48People put the most stakes on a simple day. Like it's a big day. Sure. Yeah. It's, I think it's like, if you planned for two months to just come to work one day, like let's take it from wedding to just another day, but you plan that long for one day and something doesn't go right, you're going to be like, I'm planning! This Wednesday was supposed to be the best! Yeah. So it's like, I get it, but it's also like... It's kind of like the purge for assholes. Yes! Yeah, it's like on this day, we get to do everything we want. Yeah. And nobody gets to tell us anything else. Exactly. Some comments here.
15:29Someone said, the internet is vast and yet small at the same time. Tell your coworker We all say OP is the asshole. And someone said, wow, so the perfect wedding was not so perfect, and OP needed to deflect. Ooh. There we go. Also, like, this wedding, this catering employee was a kid. 18 years old. Yeah, that's a child. That's a child. That's a child. It's a child. Yeah. Do you know that clip? You guys know that clip? You guys know that clip? That's a child. And that's an ugly, pimply bitch. Do we know that clip? Do we know that? Do we know that clip? And that was OP. Um, well, embarrassing. Wow.
16:07Frankly. Also, was it the dad flirting? With the staff, yeah. Lock him up. Lock him up. Lock him up. Man, to make a wedding planner cry, because they've seen it all too. Yeah. So to be the worst wedding. They're supposed to be the most unbroken. Truly. Oof. Wild. The strongest of the most. I don't think I could handle any job around a wedding. No. I don't think I'm built for that at all. I would crumble. Oh, like just alone having to deal with intoxicated people and in places where like weddings, everyone's like, it's the place where you can like meet people sometimes. Or maybe that's not. No, I think people think that.
16:51People think that. Is it true? No. Debatable. It depends on the wedding probably. Yeah. But. Oh. Yeah. Jeez. Jeez. Well, that's our first story. Time for our second one. Okay, that was a fun little dip the piggies in the water. That's a nice update that just gives us clarity. It's nice when you get the full perspective on a thing. It is so funny that the bride made this one employee, this one person at the catering company, seem like the whole problem, the one problem, when it's like, honey, you had bigger storms coming. Yeah. You guys seen that clip? You know that clip? Yeah, that clip. And you know that clip?
17:28You see that clip? All right. Our next story was posted on Relationship Advice. We read this back in 2025. My coworker, an 18-year-old boy, put me, 22-year-old woman, on a hear-me-out cake and posted it online. Do I take action in some way? I was there, man. Take action. Do I take action? I was there, man. Do I kill him? This was such a diabolical story. Okay, do the thing. Do the summary. Sorry. So this came from the episode Three Hot Takes from July of 2025. It was you, Courtney, and our good friend Morgan Absher. Hell yeah. The summary of it goes, OP, a 22-year-old woman, works at a diner as a waitress alongside John, an 18-year-old boy.
18:13OP says they are friendly, but not friends. John invites OP to a group chat with other coworkers on Instagram, and OP says yes, the group chat is normal standard coworker stuff. OP then sees that John posted a reel of him and his friends taking part in a hear-me-out cake. The entire cake is centered around fictional and animated characters until towards the end when OP's face is put on the cake. OP is the only real person on the cake, and John remarks about how attractive OP is and that he wished that he could hit that, but doubts he has a chance. OP feels super grossed out and violated. OP's sister says to take it like a compliment since someone thinks she's pretty.
18:56OP then asks Reddit if this issue should be escalated to higher-ups at the diner. Should she just ask him to take the video down? Okay. Damn. I forget what we talked about on this one. I mean, it's gross. It's awful. I remember a lot of discussion about workplace versus non-workplace sexual harassment. and like if there's an HR for this diner, which, you know, doesn't sound like they would have the most prime of the prime HR situation. That was an interesting one because it's like, we kind of were suspicious of like, why would you invite her to a group chat and not expect her to see that video?
19:38And we were kind of sus on like, did he do this on purpose? Like, was he trying to get her attention? It seems like he wants to. Yeah. I could see, this is like a very like dumb young person thing to do where it's like, I'm going to post this and maybe they'll see it and think I'm hot. I don't look, I'm not like, I don't know workplace like legality of stuff. I think she should address it. Like if she feels deeply uncomfortable and like have someone else at least, if there's not an HR situation to at least like confront him and be like, hey dude, stop. That's fucking weird. There's nothing, nothing's going to happen.
20:15Yeah. Just so you know. Also life lesson, now that you've done this, I certainly will not let you hit that. Yeah. Life lesson, don't do this again. Don't do this again. This is not how to do it. All right, what do we think the update is?
20:32Okay, my gut reaction again. I want, I seem to always want the update from the other person. I want to hear, I want the update from this little gremlin boy who made this nasty little cake. And I want to hear how bad things are going for him. Yeah. Yeah. I'm not animating for Walt Disney. Yeah. He's dead. He died. Did you know? Hey, guys, I'm dead now. I think, I don't know if I'm delusional or dreamed about updates of her DMing him being like, hey, this is weird. Or talking to the manager. Maybe it was people saying, hey, you should go talk to the manager or something. But I'm hoping a third party got involved.
21:13That's what I want the update to be. That she doesn't have to deal with this herself. You know? Very brave. if she did, but. You hope she has support. I fear knowing the world today that he, it's not gonna stop there. That he'll be like, no, like, in order to impress a girl, I need to do more. I need to do all. Like, if he's already bold enough to do that. True. Like, is he gonna say something to her face? Or do something at the workplace? Which, maybe then, it'll be easier for her to go to HR, but you hope it doesn't happen. Yeah. I mean, it is so bizarre to be watching a Hear Me Out cake. It's like cartoon characters.
21:51It's like Thomas the Tank Engine. And then you see your face enter the cake. Huh? I guess like the question, like I would want to ask him, and it's like for so many moves that dudes do nowadays, just like just ask the simple question of like, hey, do you think this is respectful? Right. Like, do you think this is respectful? Just screen that first before you do stuff. And then, you know, he would just be like, fax machine noise. Yeah. But yeah. All right. It does make me think about when the Hear Me Out cake thing was happening, the one that was funny, and I don't know if it was a sketch or not, and it was a bunch of girls putting stuff on a Hear Me Out cake, and one of the girls puts one of the other girls' dad.
22:28Yeah, yeah. She's like, that's my dad! And I'm like, that's funny. That's funny. That's funny. She doesn't work with the dad. It's all, yeah. Now you're a coworker. Right, right. But, okay. Also, nobody did Hear Me Out cakes correctly. Nobody did. Let's move on from that. Nobody did it correctly. They were putting hot people on there. Also, what is that trend? What are we doing? I don't know what that was. That was some weird, like, we were just coming out of our homes. And we're just trying. We were stuck in our homes for a year. We're coming out and we're like, hear me out, cakes. Put cartoons, so we want to bang on a cake.
23:04Sure, it's going to be good, Trent. The only one I saw that I was like, okay, you understood, is someone put the number eight. And I was like, that's it. You get it. You get what this is. Curving. You have to follow them down the road. The waist and the eight. It's like. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. Here is our update, and it was posted 20 days later. Okay. So, hi, I don't know if this is how you do an update, but this is how I am doing it. So, I screen recorded the video and sent it to my manager. We are on good terms, and I was hoping that she would understand and we could rework the schedule so that I don't have him bussing my tables and we won't have to interact.
23:42She said this is very odd and may be a violation of conduct. She told me not to stress about the details and that she would take care of it. I am very grateful with how seriously she took it. She had moved me around so that I will not have to see him as much, and I only have a handful of time since then. He has avoided eye contact with me entirely. Once my manager was aware of the video, I DMed John on Insta saying, the video you made in which you put my face in a hear-me-out cake for social media is gross and unprofessional. We are coworkers. I did not green light being posted online and sexualized like that.
24:17I have talked with the manager about the situation and my discomfort and would like you to take the video down. You used my image without my consent. Ooh. Let's go, mommy. Get it girl. That is an element I didn't think about. Like, I think in our industry and stuff, I don't think about like how invasive that is. Yeah. As a private individual, it's like, I'm not putting my face online. Right. You're doing it. Right. They continue. He responded and apologized, saying that he and his friends were drunk and that he made that video on a whim. He told me he thought I was cool and wouldn't have a problem with it.
24:53I thought you were cool. Saying you're drunk isn't an excuse when you then are sober after. And you uploaded it. And are looking at the video and you can delete it then. He said he would take it down, but never once actually said sorry, just gave those excuses. It was deleted. He has been having to take an online course about sexual harassment and workplace misconduct or something like that. Whoa! Something probably meaningless, but at least it is slightly a pain in the ass. The only thing now is that he has busboy buddies that side-eye and kind of glower at me because of the action I took. On the bright side, they probably won't fuck with me like that.

25:31Anyway, thanks to anyone reading. I am not sure if anyone will see this, but the comments on the last post were mostly helpful, and I am grateful for the perspective that you guys provided. So thanks. Wow. Yay. She handled that really well. Yeah, and really grateful that the manager took it seriously. Yeah. And it kind of went above and beyond. I've read a lot about sexual harassment cases and how it's not fair for the victim to have to be relocated to a different branch or having to take less hours. So I hope that all of that happened in her favor and it sucks that the other guys are making it kind of hostile for her.
26:02But I feel like the fact that she felt brave enough to message him after talking to the manager Like, I think she felt like she was in a safe space and, like, empowered to do that herself. 100%. Like, good for her. And I love that. I love that for her. Yeah, it's rare to read a story where a manager is, like, doing their job. Like, is managing, right? Yeah. I feel like everyone I know and every story I read about working at a restaurant or anything is just like, oh, and our fucking manager, like, doesn't give a fuck. Doesn't, isn't on my side when a problem is actually happening. So it's nice when a manager is, like, doing the thing.
26:37And maybe this diner is like a chain, so they have a little bit more of an established HR system. Maybe. I don't know. That'd be great. That'd be great. That'd be great. But the manager is to immediately believe her and immediately handle it. I was not expecting the sexual harassment course. That's cool. That's cool. I want to believe. No, I mean, it's like I agree with her of like it's at least a pain in his ass. The fact that the other busboys are like side-eyeing and stuff means most likely they're off talking shit. Of course. Only furthering their, like, their world and their view of things.
27:11But I'm happy for her. She handled it as best as she could. Yes, she did. And I know the sexual harassment training is the same thing as, like, when you speed, like, in your car. And they're like, you need to go to school instead of get a ticket. To traffic school, yeah. And it's like, the website comes up and it's like, should you speed? And it's like, yes or no. And you're like, no.
27:36So I know it's like, should I put my co-worker's lady face on this sex cake? No. So I know it's not changing anything for him. Like, I know it is. Damn. Do you know how many sexual harassment tapes or courses that they have to take into account like new weird ways to harass people? I know. Like, Volume 3, The Hear Me Out Cake. Like, imagine having to like, do you think, like, that's crazy. And then there's the actors that get to be in the weird little video clips where it's like, hey, Sandra, you look great today. Want to look at the cake? You're on it. You're on it. Okay, comments. The whole it was some stupid drunk thing is such BS.
28:21He had to take so many steps to get your pick ready for that. You did the right thing, and thankfully it's not like this is your forever job. Here's hoping he won't be such a jackass next time he's got a crush on someone. Someone replied saying, yep, that's a lot of planning. Screenshotting her Insta, downloading the image, ordering the cake, picking up the cake, videoing with the cake. Yeah, it's a lot. It's a lot of cake. It's a lot of cake dealing with. It's a lot of steps. It's good.
28:49Someone said, I'm glad your manager took you seriously and I'm glad you stood up to him. No shocker, he's making excuses instead of apologizing. He's young though, so hopefully he'll learn not to sexually harass any woman, let alone a coworker. Also, your sister is a pick-me-asshole. Oh. Oh, that's right. The sister said she should feel complimented. Yeah, which... Yeah, that's stupid. No, that is... That's really dumb. That doesn't change the reality of what happened. That's actually really dumb. Anyways. I wish I was on a cake. I wish I was on a hear-me-out cake. Being on a hear-me-out cake is also...
29:23It's kind of an insult. Because it's an insult, too. Someone who objectively was maybe designed... Because they're characters, usually, cartoons or things. they were designed to not necessarily be hot. Right. But it's like, but wait, but maybe they are. Or like something like the number eight that's not at all inherently sexualized. Like, wait, I've never thought about this. Yeah, it's a sexualizing cake, for sure. It can only be interpreted badly in like kind of every way. Yeah. Yeah. Anyways. Anyways. This episode of Reddit Stories is sponsored by Shopify. You know what I love? A tool. This was posted on Am I the Asshole? We read this earlier this year in 2026. Would I be the asshole for suing my friend when she didn't come to my wedding? Is this the one where they go on vacation and she doesn't go to the wedding? Or it's like a destiny wedding? Destination. Destiny. All weddings are destiny weddings. Destiny wedding. I love this one because it's like, what are you talking about? Oh, yeah. She's like, what do you mean?
31:25You flew me to Bali and I'm gonna go have fun. Yeah. When someone so delusional writes out their story on Reddit, you have to be a little grateful for it. 100%. So this story was on the episode Getting Messy with Mac Does It, familiar this year with you and Mac. The summary of the story goes, OP, a 25-year-old woman, recently had a destination wedding in Bali, Indonesia. OP and her husband paid for their friends' plane tickets and hotel stays for the wedding. Each plane ticket was about$2 ,000, and the hotel was around$150 to$300 for the week per person. OP's friend of 10 years, Gemma, brought along her newlywed husband, John, to the wedding in Bali.
32:10OP paid for Gemma's plane ticket while John paid for his own. The problem, Gemma and John didn't show up to the wedding. They take the free plane ticket and hotel room in Bali and do their own thing. Well, it's their honeymoon, guys. Guys, it's their honeymoon. OP asks why they didn't show up, and Gemma states that since they couldn't afford their own honeymoon, that this was the perfect opportunity. And also that John didn't feel like going to the wedding. Oh, well, then it's fine. Oh! Well, then it's fine. I'm remembering fully now. Like, this story is coming back to me. Oh, my God. OP asked if she would be the asshole for taking Gemma to small claims court for the money spent on the plane ticket and hotel.
32:56Then there was an update. OP messages Gemma and invoices her for the cost of the plane and hotel. I forgot about this. Yes. I forgot about this. She invoices her for$2 ,387. Now, she did that, I believe, thinking, oh, she's not going to pay me that money, but I'm invoicing her. Right. To just set this all in stone, get it all in writing. She gives Gemma 30 days to pay, and after that, OP said she would pursue legal action. OP doesn't hear from Gemma until Gemma sends back a three-page audit of financial and emotional contributions from 2015 to present. She monetized her, or like, you know, like her friendship.
33:35Yeah. So she's like, so I gave you consulting hours when you were sad about like an ex 10 years ago, and that cost me about like$3 ,000. So by the way, I was never your friend. I've been a professional this entire time. Oh my God. No, it's levels of delusion that you kind of have to respect. This is why we watch reality TV. I mean, yes, this is someone that you hope stays in your TV. Yeah, you never want to know this person. Is they the ring out of the TV? Like I'm not doing that. Stay in the TV. The amount of people we are entertained by on reality TV that if you ran into in person, they were like, do you want to hang out?
34:10You'd be like, oh God, no. Oh, please never. Oh, Jesus. No. Some of the audits include every itemized dinner or lunch they had ever eaten together as friends, gas money for driving to and from hangouts, time spent emotionally supporting OP after her dad passed, emotional distress caused by OP threatening litigation, and more. I'm sorry, you really stressed me out by saying you're going to sue me. You owe me$2 ,000. The grand total of the audit comes out to$2 ,412, which means OP would owe Gemma around 25 bucks. That's so funny. She's like, buy me a big Caesar salad. And we'll be fine. And we'll call it even.
34:59Hey, you owe me$2 ,000 for the plane tickets I bought you. That's really funny because you owe me like five Snickers bars. Right, right. That's crazy. All right, what possibly could this update be? Well, I hope they went to small claims court. Oh. Which people— Judge Judy, you know, has eaten this shit up. Oh, yeah. Yeah, I mean, because the substantial, like, reason why OP sued this friend is, like, they invited this person and paid for this with the understanding that they would attend and be there. So it's like, that was a lot of money that could have gone to someone else who would be there.
35:36Yeah, exactly. Like, that is lost funds on attendance. Absolutely, yes. And the food for the wedding that was for her to eat, her husband to eat, like, that's, it's not cheap stuff. No. And yeah, I mean, to go, well, our friendship is one big wedding, really. To assume that their friendship and all these average things are quantified to the same is crazy. Oh, ooh. I, like, I wonder how much OP saw this coming. like to have a friend like that friend not friend to like for them to throw all of this at her I wonder if she was like I knew Gemma was like I don't know why I kept Gemma around all these years it's like Gemma's good to have a cocktail with and that's it yeah I'm like I wonder if like hear me out what if the update is like Lisa Vanderpump went
36:29she's like you'd be perfect what's her accent what's her accent Isn't she British? Yeah. Right. You'd be perfect. You'd be perfect for my restaurant. No, it's like, oh, Gemma's the next bachelorette. Like, literally. Truly. Gemma's on Love Island. I am hearing that it gets crazy. Okay. All right. I think Gemma, I think they're going to go to small claims court. For sure. And I think Gemma is going to be... A monster. Oh, it's going to... Yeah. So this update came after we read the story. So in the recent months. Sorry that I haven't updated in a while. I've been trying to get my ducks in a row before I proceed with everything.
37:07While doing that, I was going through photos from Bali and ended up on the Instagram page of a local photographer who took pictures of me and my husband during a sailing excursion we went on. I was scrolling through their page and looking at random groups when I saw a very familiar face. It was Gemma and a man, and it wasn't John.
37:32You're telling me Gemma would stoop so low as to cheat? Gemma, our hero? Gemma, our beloved protagonist, did not bring John?
37:48That was good. It was a man I had never seen before. There were multiple photos. one where they were just sitting down with drinks, one with Gemma and the guy wrapping his arm around her, and one of them kissing. That's when everything clicked. My wedding was the day after everyone landed, which is why I never saw her at all, not at the hotel, not around town, nothing. I just assumed that she was trying to lie low around town to avoid a confrontation with me. She didn't skip my wedding because John didn't feel like going or that my wedding ruined the illusion of the trip being their honeymoon.
38:24She skipped it because she wasn't there with John, but with another man. Oh! I can't help it. I'm starting to read this like Maury. You really are. And I'm like, I can't help it. Another man. Whenever it gets so juicy, I'm like... And she was cheating on her. Bring her out. After seeing this photo of her and her affair partner, I decided to do my own detective work. I went to her Instagram page and tried to see if I could find the guy's Instagram page in her following list or follower list. Nada. I tried to see if any guy that remotely looked like him was in her comments or likes. Nope. I felt defeated until I remembered about Gemma's small pottery Instagram account and boom, I found him.
39:09Let's say his name is Ryan. Ryan had several photos that were taken in Bali on his page. He even had a photo of himself in the hotel room that I paid for. Ooh. I was beyond pissed and just wanted to get my money back and just be done with Gemma altogether. On the day of our court date, I told my side, showed the judge the text messages, and explained that I paid for her trip so she could attend my wedding and she didn't show up. Gemma claimed that the trip was a gift for her new marriage and not contingent on attending. I didn't even have to bring up the fact that she didn't bring John because the judge didn't buy Gemma's story.
39:49I was awarded the full amount back. Nice. Gemma walked out of the courtroom without even looking at me. I know she was pissed. And as expected, she went straight to Instagram and this time she didn't hold back at all. This is very bold of Gemma because she was actively cheating on her husband, like having a full affair in another country with this guy. And her excuse is that she was there with John. So she's full, is it torched earth? Is that the phrase? where it's just like, where it's just like, scorched earth. Scorched earth. Torched earth. Torched. Because it's just like, oh, everything's wrong, so I'm just going to go crazy.
40:28Yeah. It's Dululu salad. Dululu salad. Unless her and John are broken up by this point. And then she can, whatever. And she can fuck up. Then she, yeah. She started posting about me on her story, calling me a bitch, saying that's why I can't have kids, posting photos of me calling me fat, saying that she'll go spit on the grave of my dead grandmother. Oh my God. Things that will get people to side with you. Right. Right. Like, you know. Just diabolical mean girl stuff. The last time she brought our drama to social media, I ignored it. But not this time. I know what I did next was stooping to her level, but I didn't care.
41:07I fucking murdered her. Shut up. Shut up. One of these days we're going to read a story and that's going to happen. I'm writing this from jail. And I'm in jail now. I posted the photo of her kissing Ryan on my story and tagged her and John in it. Yes, babe. That's right, babe. Gossip girl. God. More, more, more. Every time someone does that shit, it's Antonio Banderas. Yep. Yep. I captioned it. Sorry we missed you in Bali. Hope you had fun. Within minutes, she began spamming my phone She was calling, texting, leaving voicemails, screaming at me And before I blocked her on everything, I messaged her one last time I said, you should have just come to the wedding
42:02Her phone explodes
42:11That's awesome Dude, that's good. You only dream of a moment where you can do something like that. Wow. It's like you already won the case. She's being bananas. It's a warranted thing. That was a fun side quest. Awesome. Yeah, because she could have easily been like, wow, her saying these horrible things on her story, clearly she's in the wrong. I don't need to worry about that. But she went, no, no thank you. actually, I'm gonna ruin your fucking life. TNT. Uh-huh. Yeah. Yeah, she wildly coyote'd her. Yeah. Someone said, final update is wild, not the asshole. Glad you got justice. She was playing with matches and got surprised when her world burned.
42:57Someone said, who else is here from Smosh looking for the newest update? It did not disappoint. Oh, my. Whoa. Oh, my. Whoa. And that's you. Self-reference. That's you guys. Holy shit. Oh, my God. Man, I say this all the time, but I'm always blown away by the boldness of so many people who cheat. I'm like, man, if you're going to be evil, you got to be smart at least. But to be evil and stupid, I'm like, that's just insulting. Yeah. Come on. You're going to small claims court over the trip that you had an affair on him with. Yeah. Like, you know this is going to snowball at you. Yeah. It's like, you know, aliens, aliens guy, but with affairs.
43:39anywhere. Oh, absolute bananas. That's awesome. God. Powerful. Delicious. I feel like I just ate a second breakfast. Oof. Yes. A pinkie. That had to be very satisfying to just post that, get all this like stuff, be like. Yep. When you're like, it's done. Get an affair. Yeah. Should have gone to the wedding. Should have. That was so crazy. Should have gone to the wedding and then like, like undo your seatbelt and jump from the car. Oh God. All right. Our next story was posted on Am I the Asshole back in December of 2024. Am I the Asshole for just deciding not to travel because my wife made reservations for Disney again?
44:29I remember this one. This was on putting relationships to the test. We read this back in February of 2025 with Ian and Amanda. Opie, who's 39, and his wife Jess, who's 39, have been married for the past 13 years. Opie and Jess have the means to be able to travel once or twice a year. The problem, Jess wants only to go to Disney World. They have been to Disney nine times now, including during their honeymoon. Opie is fully sick of Disney. While planning their trip for April, Opie proposes to try somewhere new like Hawaii. Jess gets confused and walks away. Days later, Jess tells OP that she's made hotel reservations for Hawaii.
45:13At first, OP is excited until he realizes she made reservations for Aulani, the Disney resort in Hawaii. OP tells Jess he's tired of Disney and wanted a different experience for this trip. Jess tells OP that she was compromising with OP and that he should appreciate the time she spent. OP then says, if it's Disney again, I'm not going to go. Jess cancels the reservations and starts to find a friend to go to Disney World with in place of OP. She said, you're done. You're done. You're done. No, she said, well, you're done. Don't worry. Of course, no Disney. OP asks Reddit if he was the asshole. We then get an update from OP, where he starts by acknowledging that he screwed up.
46:04To OP, Jess showed a great deal of openness to his idea by booking the hotel. OP also notes how Aulani barely looks like a Disney resort at all. OP apologizes and asks Jess if she still wants to go to Aulani. Jess and OP replan their vacation, and all seems well. We then get another update three weeks later. Turns out OP and Jess won't be going to Aulani because Jess got into a minor car accident by backing into the garage door. Jess is taken to the hospital and seems fine, but the doctor says based on her symptoms, she could have whiplash. Two weeks later, Jess is still citing back pain. She approaches OP and says that she wasn't confident she could go to Hawaii in a few months.
46:50I remember this. She asks to postpone the trip and OP agrees. After that, she said she felt bad about not being able to go to Hawaii, but she might be able to make it to Disney World. Oh, my God. OP doesn't understand at first, but then Jess says there's a lot of accessibility, and she could take it easy there. OP agrees, putting Jess's health first. So this one ends fully in that place of, all right, somehow we've worked our way back around to Disney World. Which, Disney World is one of the most, like, I love Disney World. It's intense. It is agonizing. It's agonizing. My back hurts at the end of, like, Disney World.
47:33It's a city. It's fully a city. She's in the driveway. She's like... She did it on purpose. I know. Now you're... It's hard not to, like, think that it's like, okay, did you plan all of this? I'm going to Disney World no matter what. All right. It's, dude, like, yeah, like I said, there's some vacation spots that I love, but like, you gotta, like, Compromise is also saying like, okay, we get to do, what are your dream spots? What are my dream spots? We'll do both. But Disney nine times in a row. Yeah. When your partner's not jazzed about that. If your partner's not jazzed about it, it's not, you shouldn't.
48:13Because there's also nothing wrong. I know a lot of people who like, they go to the same spots all the time and that's what they love. And that's fine because they both like that. I think it. But OP, all he asked for was, can we just do something different? Literally anything else. Also, to say I compromised by booking these Hawaii tickets, it's like, no, compromising is, you've got to have the conversation and find an agreement together, not just changing your decision. And it sounds like the compromise is, we're going to go to Hawaii this time. Right. Like the compromise is, we will return to Disney World at some point because I love it, but you love this, and so I'm going to compromise with you.
48:47Yeah, yeah. Yeah. It's a situation, and it's sad when people are in relationships like this, where he has to fit into her life. Yes. Like, this is her life, and he is in it, but they're not, as a couple, sharing their lives. Yeah, he's her hidden Mickey. Oh. Whoa. Damn, that was good. All right. You ever think of that? You ever think of that? You ever think of that? You ever think of that? Unfortunately, with this update, I think the only possibility that I'm seeing, because she seems so determined to stay in her ways, that I think it's probably going to result in him leaving. I mean, he's 13 years together.
49:27That's so tough. I don't know. I think the update's just going to be like, hour two in the Space Mountain line. Yeah. She's happy. Yeah. I'm afraid, and I think I felt this when the story was first read, was that whether or not she drove into the garage purposefully or like it was all fake and there was no doctor's appointment in the whiplash and her being like, yeah, I'm afraid that in a few months I won't be able to go to Hawaii is kind of crazy. I mean, I understand being like worried, but saying months from now to claim that and to postpone the trip, it just feels a little harsh. It's also, maybe I can't do Hawaii, but to be like, but I can do Disney World.
50:09Which is? To not say, let's find another place that isn't Disney World, but isn't Hawaii. Like, I don't know where they live, but there are vacation spots kind of everywhere. Everywhere. And you can find, it's like, if I were him and like, well, I wouldn't do this because I'm not in this type of situation. But like, if he wanted to manipulate her back and be like, well, no, you're not good for Disney World. So we should find something easy that's local. Like that's, but she's going to be like, no, no, no. Disney World's actually like perfect for me. No, it's not. Like, she wants to put money in freaking Walt Disney's pocket so bad.
50:44Yeah. Like, just try anything else. Which will result in paying that girl who's an animator for him. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That 19-year-old animator. That 19-year-old animator. All right. Let's get into this update. Did I say rice? I think I just said rice. Hey, dude. That's rice. Dude. It's so rice. Sorry. All right. This update came after we read the story. So long story short, last week Jess overplayed her hand. Even before that, I found her recounting of the car accident and the extent of her injuries suspicious. When she doesn't know I'm watching, she moves normally, will pick things up off the floor, and generally seem perfectly healthy.
51:24When she sees me nearby, she exaggerates every movement, holds her lower back, and limps. So, it wasn't even that she actually drove into the car. She just fully, oh man, that's, well, on Saturday, Jess approached me saying that she wanted to move. This made no sense. We had so little money throughout our 20s and early 30s, and now we're financially well off solely because I finally have an amazing job in our area. Jess said she understood this, but she argued that she wanted to live closer to her parents. She asked me to move to Orlando with her. No. No! You're getting locked up in the tower!
52:11Oh, no! So first off, her parents do not live in Orlando. That's awesome. They live in Atlanta, which is smack dab right in between where we currently live and Orlando. Atlanta is at least seven hours away from Orlando. At least. Florida's this long. Yeah. Orlando's down here. Jess cited there being more flight options, and then she tacked on that she may have a job opportunity in Orlando. By the way, Atlanta has the biggest airport in the United States. So that's a lie. Right. The most flight options are in Atlanta. Yeah. So got her. Yeah. My dad was a pilot. I know that fact. Okay. It's like the only thing I know.
52:59He would start talking about flying. I'd be like, I'm sorry, Dad. I'm bored. Sorry. No, I'm just kidding. He's kidding, he's kidding. Jess cited there being more flight options, and then she tacked on that she may have a job opportunity in Orlando. When I asked her to show me the job, she showed me a$16 an hour sales associate position for a sector where she has absolutely zero knowledge and experience. I'm not proud of this, but I snapped. I told her she just wanted to move closer to Disney World, that she was tearing our lives up so she could go take pictures with Disney princesses, and that she was a horrible wife.
53:33Oh! Oh! Gorge! Gorge!
53:44Gorge! Long live the king! You're a terrible wife. Jess denied this, naturally, and she told me that she's moving to Orlando with or without me because her parents need her. After this... What? What? What? Curly, you're living in your own fantasy. You don't need to go to Disney. Oh, no. Jesus Christ. After this, Jess went to her room and started listening to Disney music with the volume at max singing along. This can't be real. I listened to her rendition of Let It Go more times than I can count. Maybe it refers to me here. Damn. That rocks. That was pretty good. Maybe I'm it. The next morning, she told me that she was moving to Orlando with or without me and said that if I want to be a piece of shit husband, I can just stay where I am.
54:38I'm going to just be a piece of shit husband. I've tried to deny the obvious because it would make Jess happy, but I can't anymore. I just want to be alone. I wasn't responding to your comments, but they've helped me more than you can know. Thank you to everyone who posted. Oh. I have a feeling this is probably, this is one of those stories I think it's so much worse than what we're getting. Like we're getting the Disney story. The fact that in the first, I remember thinking this, in that first story, when you're reading it and you're just going, she's ridiculous. Like, what is this? But he, after all the comments go, no, dude, we're all on your side.
55:10This is ridiculous. He goes, actually, no, we've talked it out and we figured out a compromise and it's all good. I'm like, oh man, like you've lost reality. I think she's going to be shocked when he doesn't go with her. 100%. I think she's gotten her way for so long. I have a feeling, honestly, after two Disney trips, he was already ready to go somewhere else. And he went nine times because he was like, well, it makes her happy. Yeah, that's. It's brutal to be in that place, but I'm. And it's never too late to get out of something like that. Comments. Jess has truly reached the ultimate level of Disney obsession.
55:48Moving just to be closer to Disney World, we stan a committed fan. OP says, yes, I'm a fucking idiot for going along with it this long. I just wanted her to be happy. Someone said, let her go, let her go. With like a long go. Like they were writing out the song. Go. I'll get copyright struck if I sing it. Oh, sing it. I'm so good. Yeah, you're so good. People basically say I'm the Idina Menzel of Adele Dazeem. Yeah, yeah, yeah. There you go. I remember the name. Yeah, yeah, yeah. OP responded saying, dude, please. And she kept delivering that the cold never bothered me anyway line in such a catty way.
56:25Like, bro, you're moving to Florida. it's the end of January and it's 71 fucking degrees there. I mean that's a good reason to move to Florida. I mean it's possible she was just playing the music to piss him off. Oh for sure. You know like singing it just to piss him off not because she was like actually in her feelings like it could go either way. Yeah. She needs therapy so bad. Yeah. But he's doing all he can. Like she was never going to listen to him at all. No. It's sad when you hear someone talk about a relationship or you read a story like this and it's like, oh, reason is not going to work here.
57:03No, she faked an injury. Yeah. She pretended to be hurt for months. Yeah. That's crazy behavior. And I mean, good for him that he's got a good job and if they end up breaking up and really separating, he's going to be okay. Oh, he'll be. He's going to be okay. He'll be fine, 100%. And she'll be comforted by Cinderella and who. And she like, no, she doesn't have to go to Hawaii. She's got Japan and America. And Paris. And Paris and Mexico. All right. Time for our next story. Wow. I forgot about that one. That was crazy. That is delusion on a level that is. Delulu salad. That's Delulu salad. Our next story comes from wedding shaming.
57:49A lot of weddings. This was posted in June of 2025, and it reads, wedding date changed last minute to a weekday in another state. Oh, my God, this one. Oh, my God. Wait, is this Nightmare Woman, the email thread? Hey, thanks, her? Yeah. No way. Wait, the one we did on Smosh Pit Theater? Yes. This is the, hey, by the way, the wedding planner has been exiled to a different state. We have hunted her for game. You will be taking a plant back home. Yes. So make sure that you, yep. Oh my God. Okay. This came from the episode 2025's Worst Person, posted in December 2025 with Amanda and Angela. So Tommy, you're obviously familiar with this because you performed a truncated version of this in Smosh Pit Theater.
58:39Dramatic readings of Reddit stories. So fun. So if you are not familiar with this story, you have multiple episodes of stuff to watch to catch up on it. Here's the summary. This was a series of emails from a bride to her bridal party. It starts off by stating that the wedding ceremony will be on Friday in Oregon, and the reception would be the next day in Washington. The bride asks the bridesmaids to buy a new yellow dress for the ceremony and to keep the gray dress they already purchased for the reception. A bridesmaid, who is also a relative of the groom, responds to the bride's email, expressing her surprise and disappointment at the last-minute changes and how between the extra hotel stay needed and day off of work, she and her husband can't afford the extra day.
59:25Bride responds with, let's be respectful and take this offline, please, and leaves a passive-aggressive reminder for everyone else to contact the wedding planner with any concerns so as not to spam everyone's inbox. K-thanks. K-thanks. It's for passive-aggressive. Oh. Yeah. It's awful. It's so bad. Next email, wedding planner is gone, which is a good omen. OP and her husband are too quirky to fit into a box. There are not enough chairs, so guests are encouraged to come early. The wedding is also now child-free, and guests are asked to plan accordingly. Goodie bags will feature a plant, so if you're traveling internationally, please plan accordingly.
1:00:05Bridesmaids over 5 '5 have to wear flats instead of heels. Makeup is$300, and if you're a bridesmaid who wants to be in photos, you have to get it done. For reception day, everyone will start getting ready at 6.45 a.m. at the Airbnb. And groomsmen won't have anywhere to get ready, but since they basically just need ties, this is no biggie. Hey, boys. Hey, boys. You guys are sloppy anyways. Who cares? Bride follows up with, if you are not there on the 28th by 7 a.m., you will not be let in. To ensure things run on a timely schedule. Nobody wants a repeat of the batch. Right. I remember us being like, what happened?
1:00:43Yeah, dear God. Could only have been a nightmare. Bride sends another email stating that there will be no more speeches. Additionally, only Catholic bridesmaids and groomsmen are permitted to stand with people during the ceremony. The bride also asks every member of the wedding party to chip in$650 for expenses and then states, If you don't drink, we gently suggest you seriously consider whether or not you really want to come to the reception. It only takes one wet blanket to snuff out everyone's fire. God damn. Hey man, break your sobriety. For my wedding? Ruin your life. Another email comes in.
1:01:19Hey ladies and himbos.
1:01:25Hey ladies and himbos. Asking for help getting a wedding cake. And finally the thread concludes with a statement from the bride addressing the individuals no longer participating. Saying that they, Opie and her husband, will remember who stood with them and who didn't. So she gives them all these reasons why it's like, hey, don't come if this is this. And then if they heed that, she goes, well, you've betrayed me. All right. What do we think the update is? Oh, God. Yeah, because we were like, what is that wedding going to be? It can only be bad. I mean, it already just sounds awful. I really just want to hear about how the wedding went because it sounds like a nightmare.
1:02:04Yeah, did anybody go? I need to know about the wedding, but bonus if we hear about the batch. Oh, hopefully we hear about the batch. I'm assuming four people went to the wedding. Yeah. Because like any other sane person would go, so I'm spending$4 ,000 for your wedding? You're right. What are you talking, Bea? Yeah. What are you talking about? We're having fun here. Let's see what this update is. Oh my God. I just want information. Update in the comments. We found out what happened at the batch. Yay! Yeah! Yay! Yum, yum, yum! Ground control going like, yeah! From OP who posted the photos. So the bachelorette party, as I understand, I wasn't copied on most of those communications, came about because the bridesmaids assumed they wouldn't be expected to throw a party considering the wedding itself was such a personal expense to them.
1:03:01Fair. Smart. They were wrong and the bride completely lost it when she realized no one had planned anything. At the bride's insistence, the bridal party through a destination bachelorette party with barely a week's notice. Oh my God. Also kid-free and requiring$500 per person to participate, not including food. They also organized a counterpart for the groomsmen, but no one was willing to travel or pay, so no one came. Two bridesmaids came. One had no choice but to bring her young kids because she's a single mom and had no notice. The bride bitched her out for it, even though she made the trip to try and support the bride.
1:03:45The kicker is, initially, all the bridesmaids assumed the party was going to be near the wedding locale. So the hotel and activities were booked under the pretense that everyone was coming. When details became clear, most said they couldn't make it, so the two bridesmaids and the bride were stuck with the bill. The two bridesmaids couldn't have covered the other's shares if they'd wanted to. It was also supposed to be some kind of BYOB slash potluck situation, so they ran out of food and drinks almost immediately. So the bridal party was basically a big, expensive waste of time for the bride, and she's still heated over it.
1:04:25Oh my God. Holy crap. Your life is really what you make it sometimes. It really is. Like, obviously, we are born into situations, but it's like, oh, it's just goddamn. Like, she, oh, I can't even put into words. Like, do you know what I mean? When a person, she made this so hard for herself and for everyone else and then blamed everyone else. I wonder if, yeah. Yeah. I wonder if similar to, like, people who end up in, like, bad relationships. Like, you know how, like, for some people getting cheated on is, like, oh, it, like, awakened me to, like, what relationship I deserve. Right. I wonder how many people end up at weddings like this with like the shittiest bride or groom.
1:05:07And they go, I really need to start evaluating my friendships and who I'm friends with before you reach the wedding. Yeah. Because if you reach a wedding and you're a bridesmaid for someone who's this awful, and like you pay the price for like supporting this person. Yeah. You're just like, damn, what am I doing? Because it's not like, oh, she was actually the sweetest person of all time until the wedding. It's like, no, I doubt that. Yeah. I'm like this. You know, she's awful to baristas and waiters like you just. Yeah, that's what it feels like. Yeah, I feel like the what I the what I had said doesn't make sense.
1:05:43The the the your life is what you make it. So, no, I think you said it better. No, I also agree with what you're saying that weddings are supposed to be like it's supposed to be the most like weddings are for many people. They think it's supposed to be one of the most special days of their lives, but it's special because of the people that you're there with. not because of the event itself, but for people like her, for absolute assholes, I do think it becomes like the absolute burning bridge day where like there is probably before the wedding and after the wedding where it's like, oh, and now I have far less relationships in my life.
1:06:16It's like, you don't want your most special day to be a nightmare for everyone else. Like that sucks. Like you want it to be special for kind of everyone. Yeah. At the end of the day, you're throwing a party. That's all it is. To celebrate yourself, but it's still a party. so you still want everyone to be happy. Also, the groom. Nothing to say? Gone. Big guy goes, yeah, she's crazy. This is someone... Yeah, truly, that's what it's giving. When the bride writes, hey, girls and himbos. Ladies and himbos? Ladies and himbos. I feel like we already know who that guy is. That guy's over there just like, for sure.
1:06:55Yeah, for sure. For sure, drool. Just like, yeah. He's got a football at all times. Of course. Comments, the fact that she still has bridesmaids is absolutely insane to me. Someone responded, honestly, I'd stick it out at this point if I could just to see the rest of the shit show firsthand. Yeah. I would, but you're going to be paying so much money. Yeah, it's not a free ticket to a fun show. I'll do it for free. No. I'll do it for free, but not for money. Someone said, how do people like this have friends and I, who would be ashamed and horrified to make even one of these requests of others, struggle as an adult to make friends?
1:07:33I don't think, the bride does not have friends. She has people who are terrified of her. Yes. Who like, they're not, they don't actually, like, this is not a healthy friendship. Right? Like, if you're, I understand a lot of people feel that they have a hard time making friends, but that's because you're a respectful person. and you're trying to find actual deep, meaningful friendships, and that's not always easy. Oh, yeah. I feel like a friend friend would be like, hey, babe, so this isn't okay anymore. So first thing, we're going to get rid of the plant. That's easy. We're going to start easy with the plant.
1:08:09We don't need the pothos. Okay, thanks. Okay, thanks. Okay, thanks. Okay, thanks. Thanks, bimbos and himbos. Lastly, someone said, I wonder who the two bridesmaids are. I feel so sorry for them. Yeah. Yeah, they really stuck it out. They really, like, and when, like, that, I'm, like, at a loss of words with this one because I think because I've been to a few weddings now as an adult and have been a bridesmaid a couple times now. You really are showing up for a person. And it is, like, a, it is a very special day for the bride. But it's also, like, they said that they invited all these people and just assumed that all of them could attend and were banking on them being part of the budget of the wedding.
1:08:54And then when they realized that wasn't the case, they had to make all these changes and made it everyone else's fault. Yeah. Like even in the wording and just her language, it's like, if this is how she talks to people every day, it's like how you said, she's mean to service workers. She makes everything. That's my assumption. I mean, that's the tone that it's giving. Yeah. I have a hard time believing like, oh, you're only being awful in regards to your wedding. It's like, no, this is how you operate. I do not believe weddings are an excuse to get rid of your humility. No. Like, at all. This is the type of person that her flight gets canceled and other people are pulling out their phones to see how she's reacting.
1:09:28You know what I mean? Oh, yeah. Yeah, she's causing a scene. She's causing a scene. That's a good one. All right. It is time now for our final story. Okay. Our final update. This story was posted on Am I the Asshole back in August of 2024, and it reads, Would I be the asshole for telling my son to wear not his favorite jacket anymore because it looks gay. This story took care. The amount of react pictures I see of me right there going... Yeah. Overlaid with me from Smosh Pit going... It's like... The amount of... I'll be scrolling through like TikTok or Instagram or something and I'll pull up a video of this and someone's then overlaid like sweet music onto it.
1:10:17Oh, God. And I'm like, I'm immediately like, get out of here. If you are listening or watching this and you've not heard this story, it is from the Remember Sticks and Stones episode from March 2025 with Tommy and Damien. And this story, spoiler alert, made me cry like no other story on this show. Yeah, I cried also. We all cried, I believe. I had to just power through it. Sob city. Yeah. Here's a summary. OP is a single dad to his son, Oliver, who's 10. Oliver is an awesome, creative kid, full of energy and has his own sense of style. He loves bright colors, nail polish, and clothes that some people might think are more girly.
1:10:59Because of how he dresses and acts, OP notes how Oliver has had a tough time with other kids. Oliver was bullied so bad, OP pulled him out of school and homeschooled him for a bit. At a recent birthday party, Oliver wore a bright pink sparkly jacket he loves. Some other kids started to pick on him, saying he looked gay. OP gets the kids to apologize, but it ruined the day for Oliver. On top of that, Oliver is returning to public school in September. And while Oliver is excited, OP is worried he'll be bullied more. OP states his frustration. He doesn't know if he should ask Oliver to tone it down or not.
1:11:33He doesn't want Oliver to change who he is. He just hates seeing Oliver get hurt. After many supportive comments, OP posts an update. Over the summer, he and Oliver had an important heart-to-heart. OP tells Oliver how proud he is for the person he's becoming and that there's nothing Oliver could do that would make OP love him any less. OP tells Oliver that while he'll always be there for him, he may not always be around to protect him and that Oliver may have to stand up for himself if kids make fun of him. They spend the summer working on comebacks and making sure Oliver feels confident for school.
1:12:04At school, Oliver makes a new friend named Sam and things seem to be going well. Oliver and Sam set a play date, but when he's picking out his clothes, Oliver gets nervous about how his new friend will react to full Oliver. Opie tells Oliver to wear whatever he wants, and if this friend is worth being friends with, then they will accept Oliver for exactly how he is. The playdate goes great, and Opie tells Oliver how proud he is of him and how proud he is that Oliver is so brave to be himself. Opie then writes a very heartfelt message to Oliver, stating that if he sees this post to know that his dad is so proud of him, how he's so lucky to be his father, and that he loves him.
1:12:41Yeah, that part, we started it and I was like, oh. It's because it's written as like, talking about my son, my son, and then all of a sudden it just shifts to, and Oliver, if you read it. And it's like, oh. I remember when he's like, he's like, Oliver. And I was like, I gotta stop for a second. I gotta focus. I have like water in my eyes and it's like, that was just the summary. Yeah, no, I'm now thinking about it. God. Oof. All right. There's something about like a proud dad. Yes. Because I remember, do you remember we were at a meet and greet a couple years ago and a dad came up to us and was like, oh, like, thank you guys so much.
1:13:21Like, I love watching Smosh with my daughter. I'm talking about it right now and I'm like, yeah. I remember he was talking and I turned to Spencer and I go, I was like, this guy's got to shut up, dude. I can't. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I can't fucking deal with this. It's like, you guys have really brought my family together. Now I have so much of a way to bond with my daughter. It's like, shut up, shut up. You got to stop, man. You got to stop, dude. I walk up, put my hand on his chest. You got to fucking stop, dude. All right. And now let's see what happens when I read this update. An affair. Yeah.
1:13:52So actually, Oliver doesn't exist. I'm cheating on my wife. I'm like, all right. All right. So this update was posted in March of 2025. Oh. A while ago. Okay. And it was posted on the Smosh subreddit. Whoa. What? and OP writes Smosh read out my story this week thank you to everyone who has been sending positive vibes me and Oliver's way wow I listen to the Smosh Reddit videos every week while driving but I never expected my post to be on there I watched halfway through the episode when it first came out like literally within 10 minutes of it being posted but didn't get to my story and only just finished the episode I'm amazed by the response from all those at Smosh Shane, Tommy and Damien and thank you for reading my post.
1:14:40It was so... Let's take a breather. Let's talk about that for a second. Thank you for reading my post. It was so touching when you started to tear up. It made me cry all over again. I really, really appreciate it. Thank you for all of those on this subreddit sending positive vibes all of his way. He's doing great, by the way. Great, and it doesn't end there because OP also left a comment that is even longer than that. Oh, you're fucked. Oh, Jesus. All right. Here we go. Get ready. Yeah, I can handle this. OP writes, I've touched on this a bit before, but I have had to learn so much since I've had Ollie.
1:15:21No one ever gives you an instruction manual on how to properly raise a kid, you know? Growing up, I was popular, sporty, and conformed to gender norms. When Ollie was born, I don't know, I just expected him to be the same. It doesn't matter to me, and I would always support him no matter what he does or who he loves. Having to go through him being bullied, being depressed and actually telling me he wishes he wasn't alive at eight to nine years old was the hardest thing I have ever gone through. Despite all that, Ollie never stops being himself, and I'm so glad Reddit talked me out of telling him to tone himself down.
1:15:52Ollie is now doing great, he's popular, hasn't experienced any bullying, and most importantly to me, he's happy, and he hasn't had to change himself at all to get this. People are saying Ollie is lucky to have me as his dad are wrong, but I am so lucky to have him as my son. Someone's so self-confident. He's my, just like, come on. Dude, stop, stop it. He's listening. Stop. He's listening to this video. I know, but he's got to stop. He's my amazing little man, and I can't wait to see the person he grows up to be. Whatever it is, I just know he is going to change the world. Oh. Oh, my God. OP, I know if you're listening and you're watching this, I love you, but you gotta stop.
1:16:41You gotta stop. It's too sweet and tender, delicious, lovely. You're too sweet. You're too kind. Oh, man. God damn. That's wonderful to hear that. He's in a great spot and, you know, he's thriving. I'm really glad to hear that because, like, he is so, the dad is so great. Ollie sounds so great, but school sucks and kids suck. It just sucks. So I'm so glad it's like, wow, everything's going really well. They deserve that. He has no idea his impact, this dad. Oh, my God. To be able to say those things to him, even just the littlest thing of like, hey, this friend, they're worth being friends if they are cool with you.
1:17:21If they aren't cool with you, then they're not worth being your friend. That is a building block for a kid. Totally. And he's now got this confidence that is probably infectious to other people in school. And that is a positive light that is spreading. Absolutely. Parents in general don't realize their impact sometimes. Totally. One way or the other. And that kid is lucky to have him. And sometimes to other parents too. It's like there might be a more kind of, you know, blocked up kind of dad who's hearing this dad be like, I expected my son to be, you know, a football jock star. And when he wasn't that, I embraced him because he's my son and I love him and he's happy and that's all that matters.
1:18:07It's like, you know, some guy just might need to hear that and go, why am I being so weird about my gay kid? Right, and just going to Reddit is one thing, but just being open in general. That's what this dad did, was open to the idea of what should I do. Yeah. And luckily, the choice he made was the best one. Absolutely, and I certainly believe that if this is how he's writing on Reddit, I also can only assume this is how he's talking to his friends and how he messages this all the time, and that's how he's talking to Ollie and stuff. And it's important the fact that he put this on Reddit. I'm sure his original post affected other people immensely too.
1:18:46And I hope by us reading the story, it reached even more people. That's so important. And we've read a lot of comments and stories from people who share wisdom like that. And it's so important. Because I wish this guy was more the norm, but he's not. And so I think it is important for him to say this stuff. because, yeah, hopefully other dads hear this, other moms and other parents, and take it to heart. And other closeted kids. Yeah, absolutely. I can be like, oh, this is an option. I know we're in, since I came out of this closet, it's a different world now in ways. It's also a worse world in other ways.
1:19:30But, yeah, I remember being scared to come out because I'm like, oh, my parents are going to launch me into space. They're going to kick me out of the home. And so I was so scared. And then when I came out, they were like, okay, why are you freaking out? Why are you being so crazy? More stories like this would, you know, help me feel easier to do that. Totally. Yeah. Totally. Man. Wow. What a gorgeous, beautiful little... Beautiful, gorgeous dad. Yeah. And beautiful, gorgeous family. Thanks. Thanks for that update. Thank you for the update. Will not be launched into space. Thank you. call off the launch.
1:20:11Why were we going to launch him in the first place? I don't know. Because he's making me cry. Put the gorsh girl back in. Gorsh girl and bride. Yes. Gemma, gorsh girl, bride. Three. I do want Disney girl and Gemma to hang out. Yes. Oh my God, yes. Why not? They drink around the world in Epcot, they're going to have a blast. Woo! Yeah. Oh, man. Well, thank you both for being on this journey with me today. This was awesome. Walking down memory lane and then moving forward from memory lane. Yeah. Feels like I watched a bunch of sequel movies today. Yeah. It was really cool. Man. Well. Well. That's it.
1:20:53And thank you all for watching and listening to all of our episodes, but this one also. And we'll see you next Saturday. Goodbye. Love you. Goodbye, love you. Thank you for the update. Thank you for update!
