In short

Snarkbait hosts Christy and Sophie recap pop-culture news, focusing on Coachella discourse (especially Justin Bieber’s “sit and harmonize” set), influencer/price-gouging backlash, and reality-TV reunions: Laguna Beach and Vanderpump/Westmandoval (Amanda & West).

Guests

No podcast guests appear in the transcript; only the hosts (Christy, Sophie) and people they mention (e.g., Olivia at Coachella, creator Tyler Wells, and cast members from Laguna Beach/Bravo).

Key claims

  • Justin Bieber’s pared-back, YouTube-video-based set was intentional and “healing,” despite crowd complaints about shortened songs.
  • Bieber negotiated a $10M Goldenvoice contract without an agent (unprecedented for Coachella headliners).
  • Coachella has become more marketing/brand-activation than music; influencers and brand events drive higher costs.
  • Tyler Wells’ Coachella food-poisoning saga (IV, $390) is a rare “real” perspective amid repetitive influencer content.
  • Laguna Beach reunion revealed little new; Kristen Cavallari’s interview style felt under-questioning.
  • Westmandoval: Amanda’s apology statement coincided with West being seen bar-hopping/making out, fueling “Bravo audience” outrage.

Notable examples

  • Coachella sightings: Timothée Chalamet, Kylie Jenner, Jacob Elordi, Kendall Jenner, Kim Kardashian (with Lewis Hamilton).
  • Influencer controversy: Remy Bader-related TikTok mocking an overweight man; deleted after backlash.
  • Price gouging: Airbnb cancellations and $500 rideshare/private-driver claims; wristbands resold for $10,000.
  • Tyler Wells: sick in campgrounds after “spicy pizza,” medical tent/IV, viral follower spike.

Welcome back to another episode of Snarkbait. I'm Christy. I'm Sophie. How are you doing on this bright and early Monday morning? We are in a post-Coachella world now. And all I've been doing the past 12 hours is watching TikToks so we can properly talk about it. But before we dive into all that, Sophie, what did you do this weekend?

1:28Literally nothing. I was feeling very under the weather this weekend. So I took it easy. I was doing a couch cella, as the kids say. So, yeah, I was watching everyone else have fun. And yeah, that's about it. How was your weekend? Didn't you have a, you had a friend visiting? Yes, I had a friend in town. Okay, so first of all, we went golfing for the first time. We went to this resort in Newport called Pelican Hill. Beautiful resort. It's like overlooks the ocean. Great. Beautiful, beautiful hotel. Beautiful hotel. But when I tell you, it's so hard to golf. We took a lesson too. So we didn't just like go out on the range and start like hitting balls.

2:11We did like a clinic and the teacher was super helpful. She helped us with like our grip, the stance, the posture. There was too many things to think about all at once. Like my brain can't process that. It was so hard. Have you ever golfed? When I was like little, not in a really, really, really long time, but my grandpa and just my family used to love to golf. So I would go when I was younger and it is really hard and it's also boring. Yes. It's so boring. It was fun for like the first 30 minutes. And then me and one of my girlfriends were like, okay, we're ready to eat now. Like, let's just go back down to the grill.

2:50Like, we don't want to do this anymore. You also were texting us. You're like, what does a girl wear to go golfing? And I was like, I don't fucking know. But you ended up looking cute. I saw the picture you posted. Oh, thanks. I already had like a little tennis skirt and I just got some golf shirt top online from Amazon for like 12 bucks. And I was like, this will do. This will do. I think I loved the part. You know who loves to golf? Henry. Husband of the pod. Yeah, it's such a male finance thing because that's how all the dudes in finance like schmooze with clients or like the private equity firms or the investors.

3:26And like bachelor parties. Oh, yeah. That's what you want to do on your bachelor party. Yeah, we have a Topgolf simulation in our office and every week all like the boys go down there to do it and they invite me and I'm like... The boys? Yeah, the boys. And I'm like, no, because I don't want to make a fool out of myself in front of you guys. You don't want to be one of the boys? I'm just not one of those girls. I'm just like a girly girl. You know, like I'm like more for the girls. You're a girl's girl. No, Henry will go on like he goes on work trips all the time to like meet with clients or whatever.

3:58And he always has to schlep his golf clubs. It doesn't bother him, though. I'm like, I can't think of anything worse than schlepping this massive. It's like a huge fucking it's the size of him, basically. Yeah. And it's so heavy. It's so heavy. He has to schlep it. He's like, yeah, because we're going golfing. And I'm like, no. Yeah. It's such a boy thing to do. So I don't, my mom was like, let's do it again. I was like, I don't really want to. Like you can. Then me and Angie can be downstairs at the grill, but like you can do that. We can just be in, you know, at Pelton Hill. I would like go on the golf cart and just like get drunk or whatever.

4:38Because I know some people, like that's part of the fun also is just like getting drunk. Yeah. So yeah, maybe maybe one day maybe next time but maybe next time i genuinely just don't like i don't like it um what else did we do oh we saw a comedy show we saw brian callen and i don't know if you've ever heard of him but he's i haven't heard of him either but he was so funny like was laughing so hard and my friend i i said before last week she's going through a breakup so she was like dude the comedy show was such a good call like we're kind of like a little bit hung over on saturday and it was just what we needed to kind of bring ourselves back up yeah i love a good cop i just looked him up he looks so familiar yeah he's been on like joe rogan a million times but he's not like super like i know people have conceptions about joe rogan he's not what you think joe rogan is like the entire set was about how women are like the most powerful preachers and guys just like show up and make a fucking mess but um he was really good so if he's touring in your city uh C-A-L-L-E-N, Brian Kellen.

5:43I highly recommend it. But shall we just dive in? Oh, he was on Sex and the City. Was he really? He played one of the love interests. That's definitely what I know him from. Oh, how funny. Yeah. Oh, my God. Yeah, Howie Halbert. He played one of the... Which one? Do you remember? Oh, my God. He was the one that fucked Carrie like a jackhammer at the wedding. Oh, how funny. Oh, my God. That's so funny. I was like, he looks so familiar. That's why. That's hilarious. So funny. He was doing this bit about how his Sicilian mother, and I feel like you can relate to this, like a Jewish mother too. Or just like my two girlfriends were dying because they're like such like an immigrant mother thing.

6:24Where she was like, every time you step outside, she'll find out a way to like anything you do, she'll find out a way to make it about like you dying. Like, do not wear that scarf. It'll hang and then it'll like decapitate you. Like, I don't know. Like, she was doing all these bits and I was just like crying laughing. Oh, my God. I love that. So definitely recommend. Uh, okay. Should we talk about Coachella? Yeah, let's get into it. There is quite a lot to discuss, I feel like. I think we should start with Justin. Justin's set. I feel like everyone is talking about it. Everyone is watching it, including both of us.

7:00He is one of one, as Christy would say. Obviously, you guys know we just did a deep dive on him. He is one of one. Christy is a true believer. Um, I personally loved it. From what I saw, I watched most of it. I think, actually, I think I watched all of it. And I thought he did amazing. He's getting some backlash. Not backlash, but like people are like, oh my God, he just fucking sat there playing YouTube videos. It was so lazy. It was so, you know, so half-ass. And I completely disagree. I think that this is, it was kind of making a statement for so long Justin was trotted out in the costumes with the dance moves with the backup dancers this was him reflecting on his career I feel like like I don't know if that's a stretch he was discovered on YouTube so much of this was about YouTube obviously he was sitting there pulling up YouTube videos it was just him and a microphone for the most part harmonizing with the tune.

8:03It was completely paired back. Yeah, harmonizing with his younger self. I thought it was like beautiful and I thought it was making a statement in its own way. But what did you think, Christy? Yeah, I want to double click on what you just said about people saying it was mid, but it was more of like him taking ownership back of his music and what he went through as a kid. Some people and some creators, which I kind of agree with, were saying people say Justin deserves the right to be mid, but it doesn't mean you have to half-ass your show. Now, what I will say about the show is that I think he created a very different experience for those on the ground versus those of us in the bed, like watching from home.

8:39I think that his show was for people watching remotely than it was for people in the crowds. Because we talked with Olivia, who is at Coachella right now, and she said people were leaving during the set. It was far less like hyped and amped up as it appeared on your phone. And I completely can understand why that would be. because when she would play Baby, for instance, the crowd went absolutely berserk. Like, I've never heard screams like that, like, from a phone, ever. But he played, like, a short snippet of it, and then I would end. And then he'd move on to the next. And I think as people on the ground, you want to hear the entirety of the song, you want to dance to it, you want to jump around.

9:14But it just felt like, right, when you were having a good time, boom, it would stop abruptly. What was really, really incredible about Justin back in the day was that not only did he have a great voice, but he was actually a great performer in that. he danced and he actually is an incredible dancer as well so i remember thinking like when i was watching it this weekend i was like okay i kind of wish she could incorporate like the dancing but now that i'm thinking about it i'm like the last time i saw justin bieber dance was like 15 years ago like i have this image in my head of who he was early on in his career probably 2012 and who he is now i genuinely couldn't actually even ideate on justin bieber today dancing like that on stage.

9:52Could you? Honestly, no. It's kind of a weird image, right? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, there's a lot of discourse around the fact that, you know, would a woman be able to get away with that kind of performance? And I would argue that I don't even think Justin's getting away with it. I think a lot of people are saying that was so fucking lazy. And I also think that Justin can do whatever the fuck he wants at this point in his career. As you guys know, and as we talked about last week. He has been exploited since his childhood by his parents, by the industry. And let him do what he wants at this point.

10:31But I completely agree that we need to normalize singing entire songs and not just 30-second clips. I can imagine myself if I were there, I would be so annoyed if I was just like, just the beats about to hit on baby. And then it's like, all right, all right, all right, let's move on to the next one. He goes over to his little computer. I'd be like, no, we'll finish the song. Yeah. It's like, are we an item? And then it's like a Deez Nuts video. Yeah. No, exactly. Exactly. I just felt frustration on behalf of those there. But from my couch, from the bed, it's very enjoyable to watch because you have to understand as well, the production value that he put into those of us listening at home was really high.

11:12Like he had the fishbowl kind of camera on his laptop. It was very close up to his face. You could kind of see the joy that justin was getting from performing from home but when you're in a crowd with like i would imagine it's like hundreds of thousands of people at coachella i don't mind to speak uh coachella attendance i feel like it is hundreds of thousands i don't know is that like crazy to say uh let's see coachella attendance yeah 125k yeah per day so when you're in a crowd of 125 000 people and they're all watching justin bieber you can't see the facial reactions and how much joy he is getting and how like it seems very pleasurable for him to be on stage rocking out and kind of doing his thing in his hoodie and his sweatshirt and his laptop but from the crowd you're like i just want to hear a whole set and i also saw a creator saying you know this would have been fine if justin had done this type of set if he had done his own world tour but for coachella you got to break it out like you really had to bring out all the stops and in my opinion i'm like i would think actually the opposite when you're on like a world tour like the eras tour or frankly any tour, the production value is far higher than it would be at Coachella because Coachella, you just don't have the same, I don't know, you're not doing it so many times where you can finesse it.

12:20It's like one single performance and it's outdoors. And I don't know. I just, I don't, not that outdoor performances can't be good, but you know what I mean? I feel like at Coachella, I don't expect the same production value as I would at a concert of his. Yeah. I mean, I don't know. I feel like I've never been to Coachella, but I think that, you know, if you look at Sabrina Carpenter, like that was a whole production, obviously. So I think it just depends on the artist. I think for Justin, it worked for him. There was something that was so healing, I feel like, for both him and us to watch him harmonize and watch his younger self.

12:54It was like, and I have categorized myself as not a believer, but I think maybe, like we talked about this, I grew up with him as much as any other millennial girl did. And I think maybe I felt like I was too cool to be like, I'm a believer. But I got emotional watching it and I'm sure you did I know you did actually yeah I completely had the same reaction Sophie and I would actually liken it to when I saw Hilary Duff back a couple months ago yeah so to hear her play the songs that I remember from my childhood it was like it's not even about the artist or the song it's like taking it your brain actually takes you back to whatever memories that you place and categorize when that song released and how happy you were, how it just brings back nostalgia.

13:39Yeah. And I feel like millennials right now, we crave nostalgia because of everything that's happening in the world. And it feels like every time we open our phones, it's so frustrating to read things. And I feel like that's why they come to podcasts like ours to just kind of escape. But it's almost as if when we're sharing these celebrities that were such a big part of our childhood, it brings you back to those places. Like it brings you back to your childhood, one. And I think, too, like you said, Justin Bieber has gone through so much, so much that one person should endure in their entire lifetime, let alone in front of the entire world between the ages of like 12 to 20.

14:13So I feel like, to your point, we watched him peel on stage and taking back that power of like, OK, as a little kid, I couldn't protect and shield myself. And now I'm up on the stage. I'm headlining Coachella in front of 125 ,000 people. The power is now back in my hands. Yeah. And he negotiated. He said this last week. he negotiated this contract with Golden Voice for$10 million and he used no agent. That's like unprecedented in Coachella history. When you're headlining a show like this, you always have an agent negotiating a contract on your behalf. But I think he knew the power that he had as Justin Niebuhr.

14:45So he was like, I don't need to have anyone on my team negotiate this for me. Like, I know my worth and it's$10 million and like pay me that and I'll pay a set for an hour. Yeah, exactly. Like doing things on his terms, basically. Which, how could we hate on it, honestly. And I, again, like I understand the argument where it's like a woman would never be able to get away with it. I don't think that he is getting away with it. Absolutely not. 100 % no. Everyone is crapping on the performance on TikTok, those who were there. Exactly. Exactly. I also think that, again, he has been through so much.

15:19And also, I feel like there are some, you know, woman artists that could get, I think Billie Eilish could have done a set like that. A hundred percent agree. But in any case, I gave it two thumbs up. Again, I was not there physically, but from my couch. And also I want to talk about, first of all, we saw Timmy and Kylie in the crowd. Yes, with his pink, pink bandana. His pink bandana. As if we can't recognize those eyes and that gorgeous hair from a mile away. Yeah. And also Jacob Elordi. And we saw Haley, Kylie, Kendall, Fi, their friend Fi, Timmy, Jacob Elordi leaving Justin's set together. I was actually there too.

16:04I was like walking right behind them. No, but everyone is saying, well, everyone to moi is saying that Jacob Elordi and Kendall Jenner are an item. Don't quit playing. so they apparently were spotted making out at justin bieber's like after party and i am firmly in the delusional i won't believe it until i see it camp like i was with timmy and kylie at first okay can i say something so controversial yeah okay so two years ago there was i think it was two years ago there was footage i think of kendall jacob and a bunch of people in paris i think it was Paris Fashion Week and it was someone's birthday.

16:47They were sparklers and they were seated. Like they've been friends for a long time. This hasn't come out of nowhere in terms of just them being in the same groups. Yeah, yeah. Bopping around. They had a photo together at the freaking Oscar after party, vanity fair party. They did. I remember that year, two years ago, thinking I would love it if they dated. Like that to me, I stand. Like I love it. Really? Yeah, I don't know. I think that Kendall, I like that she kind of does her own thing. And I like that she's never kind of tied down by any man, unlike her sisters who kind of always get in like relationships.

17:21Kendall's a player. She's going from Bad Bunny to Devin Booker to now Jacob Lordy. Who knows who else? But I do feel like these two are so attractive on a standalone basis that together they are unstoppable. And I just love it. Oh, I don't. Sue me. Because I don't like Kendall. No, I don't like her either. Kendall's middle finger. It's everywhere, Sophie. Three words. Kendall's middle finger. That's the dark energy object of the decade. Yeah. But sure. I mean, they're obviously both attractive. I think that she is definitely his type. Like if you look at his track record, Kaya Gerber. Yeah, she's so Kaya Gerber.

17:59Olivia Jade, Zendaya. Joey King, randomly. Oh, I know. Remember that? The Kissing Booth era? Of course. So random. That was before he became Jacob Elordi, I think. Yeah, that's where he became the Jacob Elordi. So like, it probably is true. I'm just in denial once again, because I'm like, no, that's that's my man. But how first of all, Kim and Lewis Hamilton were under the radar at Coachella. She was like hiding her entire face. Did you not see this? No, I didn't realize that Kim was there. She was hiding her entire face. But obviously, you could tell her her body. Speaking of one of one, that body is unmistakable.

18:40So she was there with Lewis Hamilton. And the fact that like she was like hiding her face and it was very like not trying to make a big deal. And of course it's going to be a big deal no matter what she does. But I don't know. I was like, okay, maybe they are really an item. How many times can I say an item on this episode? Yeah, because they've been spotted on very private dalliances. Certainly not as big of a sage as Coachella. It felt like a PR thing to me at first. And now I'm like, no, you know what? Like, maybe it is for real. But how annoyed do you think Kim is secretly that both of her little sisters are dating the two hottest young movie stars in the world right now?

19:26And that, I feel like, is the only thing Kim ever wanted was to date a movie star. Post-Kanye divorce. Right. Kim's entire trajectory is to ensure that she is rubbing elbows with the highest people in every industry. That's why she's been begging. That's why she holds on to Balenciaga so tightly, which is what Sophie and I covered on Patreon last week. Sophie took us through the fashion house scandals and the racism with Dolce & Gabbana, Balenciaga, and the CSAM that they were pushing with their ads. What else? What are the other ones? Christian Dior. John Galliano, Dolce & Gabbana. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

20:03Not Christian Dior. John Galliano. Well, it was John Galliano while he was working for Dior. Yeah. Gotcha. And Kim Kardashian is a fan of all of these brands still, post-controversies. Yeah. And I had no idea about any of them except Valenciaga because I felt like that hit the mainstream airways a couple years back. But Sophie did a really good job of taking us through it. But Kim, well, it doesn't matter like anyone's morals. as long as she's with the billionaires or with people that have status in any industry, she'll be right by their side. And I think that you're totally right. You're on to something.

20:36I didn't even think of it. Jacob and Timothy are the name on everyone's lips. And they are taken very seriously. I do feel like Jacob Lorty is taken more seriously because he hasn't put himself next to really anyone lowbrow. And I don't like saying that because it insinuates that, like, it's very misogynistic when people talk about the Kardashian curse. Yeah. But I do think Timothy's coolness has gone down. This is objectively true, I think. This isn't our opinion. I agree. And I say this as like a huge Timothy stand. A hundred percent. And I'm saying that they are the hottest actors in Hollywood, but Timothy has got him bad PR for who he's with.

21:12And I feel like Jacob has skirted against that because he hasn't been with Kendall, but this could potentially bring his likability meter down. Yeah. And not to say that also like Lewis Hamilton, I don't watch like F1 and all that, but Lewis Hamilton is one of the biggest race car drivers. Is that what they? Yeah. Race car drivers. Yeah. Oh, my God. Dumb and dumber. Everyone's gonna be like, yeah, he's a race car driver, you idiot. No, that's the first time I heard of this. a more official term for like an F1 driver. But he is one of the, yeah, race car driver. He's one of the biggest race car drivers in the world.

21:49He obviously is a serious athlete, a serious person, serious celebrity in his own right. But I feel like Jacob Elordi and Timothy Chalamet are on another level, obviously. They are both Oscar-nominated actors. So I don't know. I can only imagine that Kim is feeling a twinge of jealousy, if I had to guess. Undoubtedly. I completely agree. I mean, I didn't even know she was there. She really is trying to keep a low profile, it seems, with Lewis Hamilton. Because I have yet to see any content with her. I just had to Google it. And then you're right. She had like a scarf around her entire head. All you can see are her eyes.

22:23She was hiding her head, but like her body. You're like, yeah, that's Kim Kardashian. You're right. The booty is like... That was like when she wore that Balenciaga. Remember at the Met Gala, it was like a black, like head-to-toe black covering. We were like, yeah, but that's Kim Kardashian because look at the ass. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, and she's so petite. Yeah, it's like one of one. Right, right. Her body is certainly one of one. You've seen Lola Blankets on Instagram and TikTok. You've heard us rave about them. 27:27One thing I want to also quickly shout out is this creator named Tyler Wells. I don't know if you remember this from last year's Coachella selfie, but he was in the campgrounds, like car camping. And he was like, hey, everybody, like, come see my campgrounds. I remember us talking about this last year. Yeah, in Patient Zero. And everyone was like, bro's sitting next to Patient Zero. Like, why does he keep coughing? And it was like this whole bit. And I've been following Tyler Wells forever since that, like for a year now, I guess. And he does really great content on true crime. He goes to like various areas within LA and he'll film like a full five minute series on like why this place is important.

28:02Here is the place where this person was murdered. Like, I don't know. He does good true crime content. So he's back at Coachella with Brands this year. And I'm so proud of him because last year he went on his own dime. Poor thing. He has been super sick the entire festival. And apparently he ate the Coachella spicy pizza. He didn't call out the actual vendor name, but it's gotten a lot of people really sick. And he's been boots on the ground talking about his experience with like the medical tent, his sickness. Oh, my God. I was wondering. OK, so I did not see this, but I was wondering because I saw several, you know, influencers and Coachella attendees eating pizza.

28:39And all the comments were like, did you get sick? And I was like, what? Yes. So he has kind of gone viral. He attracted 30 ,000 new followers from this Coachella health scare alone. But I genuinely felt so badly for him. And he kept saying, listen, you guys, I know how first book problem that seems like I can't go to my brand event. Boo hoo. But he's like, this is work. Like I have signed contracts to go to these things. I get paid for these things. I now can't show up for my work. And Coachella is something that he has loved for like decades. He's from LA. He's like, I've been going since I was a kid.

29:08This is like my Super Bowl. And the fact that I can't go to anything makes me so depressed. But it was so sad because fortunately he's in the safari ground. So he has a tent. It's air conditioned to get private bathrooms, private showers, all those things. But he was saying, do you know how miserable it is to have food like a stomach virus or food poisoning and for it to go out both ends? and you're not at home. Do you know how - Oh my God, not being at home? I can't even imagine. Horrible. She had to go back and forth to the medical tent. She was live, like vlogging on TikTok, his entire experience.

29:37And then a lot of people were saying like, listen, when you look at Coachella content, you kind of see the same copy and paste from every influencer. You go to a brand event, you look at all the tchotchkes, you look at all the active brand activations. It kind of becomes the same thing over and over. But I actually really appreciated his point of view of like, okay, I had to go to the medical tent again. They got a golf cart for me. I went back to the medical tent, got an IV. 390 bucks later. This is so expensive to be sick here. And everyone was like, you're so thirsty. You're just trying to get more followers.

30:02He's like, I can't leave because I came with a friend. I can't leave my friend. And everyone's like, your friend is a bad friend for not being by your side when you're sick. He's like, why would I ever expect my friend to not enjoy the festival that like they pay for? Thousands of dollars for. Yes. I'm sure. But I don't know. I really appreciated his point of view and I was really rooting for him. The third day he was kind of able to rally a bit. He wasn't drinking or anything, but he was eating exclusively bland foods. But it was nice to see him appreciate at least day three. But I felt so badly for him because he was listening to Justin Bieber in his tent.

30:32He started to cry. He's like, I've been looking forward to this all year, but now I'm sick. Oh, God. That's really sad. Yeah, but I'm glad that he got a lot more followers from this. And he just shared a different perspective from the festival, which I appreciated. And it was so funny because I was spending the night at Girlfriend's house of mine all weekend because we had friends in town. and I was looking at all of his TikToks. She's like, God, he's saying the same thing. Like, why do you keep watching? And I'm like, my show is on. Like, this is very, he's saying the exact same thing, but I'm like, no, I love him.

31:00I love that he keeps it realistic. He's like, it's not as glamorous as it looks. Yeah. Speaking of which, what do you make of like the discourse around influencers like ruining Coachella? I am like the biggest critic of influencers, as you guys know. I also have never been to Coachella. So I don't understand what exactly they're ruining. As someone that has actually been to Coachella, what do you make of that discourse? I'm genuinely asking. I see people talking about them ruining this music festival, but how? Yeah, that's a good question because when I went, I went in 2014. This was well before influencing became a thing.

31:37Instagram was just coming up. I've said this before. I grew up in California. I had friends that attended Coachella Music Festival when we were in high school. And I remember it just being such a low-key thing. We have digital cameras, no social media. But I think now Coachella is, I would say it's 30 % in music festival and 70 % in marketing. It's for brand activations. And I think corporations are going to corporate and they need to have an opportunity to set up their brand activations to bring brand awareness. And I think at the end of the day, influencers are going to meet that agenda for these brands.

32:13So I don't necessarily hate it. Like, I feel like you have to know that with an event such as this in Southern California, it becomes more about marketing than it becomes about the music. And if you're there for the music, you know, you can still get that. But it is going to be more infiltrated with influencers. And I can see how that can be frustrating for a person who is there exclusively for just like the vibes and the music who doesn't care about social. And it makes everything more expensive. Of course. For everyone. It's so funny. Like, all of these influencers, they're like, I'm going to Coachella with Kleenex.

32:43Yeah. I'm going to Coachella with Crest toothpaste, like the most random fucking brands. Yeah. Like, what is going on? I also want to quickly call out Remy Bader. Did you see this? No. I forgot who she was there with. Maybe like Guess. Okay. But she was with Hallie Batchelder. Hallie Batchelder posted a TikTok of Remy, like, fake grinding on an overweight person in the crowd. Like clearly making fun of this man for being larger, which is so ironic. If you listen to our Remy Bader episode, she got weight loss surgery, admitted it a year later, and, you know, talked about how hard her life was as someone living in a larger body.

33:26And for her to turn around now that she's smaller and make fun of someone who is overweight at Coachella, I think that Hallie Batchelder ended up deleting that TikTok. I tried to go look at it again. I think she deleted it because they were getting backlash. So just wanted to shout that out in terms of stupid influencers at Coachella. I saw a screenshot of that. Now that you're saying this, I did see something like this. She has so much self-hatred. I'm sorry. Self-hatred, exactly. That is just so deeply insidious and dark-sided to me. And I don't mean that ironically or sarcastically. It's not funny.

33:58You yourself understands what it's like to live in a big body. You were just tacky and gross. And nor did this man get consent to be, I'm sure, because if it was a stranger and she was just grinding on him for likes that's so exploitative and disgusting like yeah oh my god i like actually have like my heart just sank about that i don't like that at all um really quickly what you just said about influencers making coachella more expensive another thing that i have to call out is that coachella has never seen so much attendance in years coachella has had a bit of a flop era because justin bieber was headlining a lot more people have attended and apparently we talked about this i think last week where influencers or just normal people rented Airbnbs six months ahead of time.

34:37The Airbnb owner's host canceled last minute and then quadruple, if not 5x the price. Yes. Oh, my God. I saw Lex and Eco post about this. Yes. It's complete price gouging. I don't know what the rules are for Airbnb, whether or not these Airbnb attendees are owed money for a lawsuit. But I can completely understand how frustrating that must be for everything to now be more expensive. In fact, people were saying that at the Uber and Lyft lines, you know, you have like a rideshare app where people can wait for their driver. Apparently, there were private drivers grabbing people who were desperate for a ride home, asking for$500 from the festival back to their rental home.

35:18Oh, my God. Like, that is so horrible. Also, Tana Mojo posted about people reselling their wristbands for like$10 ,000. Yes. And she was like laughing about it. And everyone was like, this is fucking ridiculous. Again, okay, now it all makes sense. This is how influencers are ruining Coachella. A hundred percent. Because imagine just being a person who's like, I'm a huge fan of the Strokes and the XX. Like, I like real music. And I just want to, like, go for the music. And, like, this is what you have to fucking deal with. Okay, let's talk about the Laguna Beach reunion. Speaking of healing our inner children.

35:52Yes, please. Literally nothing juicy was revealed. First of all, Roku. Interesting experience. I was like, how the fuck do I watch this? If you have a smart TV, you can just download the Roku app. Yeah. Kind of. And it's free. It's like supported by ads. Right. But that was interesting. Our favorite streaming network. Our favorite. I actually was just watching Tubi this week and I was watching Scary Movie, which is such a classic. Such a fucking classic. But yeah, nothing juicy was revealed whatsoever on the Laguna Beach reunion. It was nostalgic and like nice to see them all reunited. but like there was nothing revealed whatsoever.

36:31I will say that Kristen Cavallari, me and Mark. Me and Mark Estes. So she, I feel like is the only one that has not moved on with her life. Do you agree? A hundred percent. Her whole thing, her whole thing is to date younger dudes and harken back to when Lo was offered a Birkenback to talk about her cocaine addiction. She talks about the same stories every day on her podcast for clickbait and then being a Laguna Beach advocate myself, like I know all the stories by now. I could say it in the back of my, like the back of my, I know it like the back of my hand. What I will say is the Back to the Beach podcast that she hosted with Stephen Coletti on Dear Media a couple of years back, everything was revealed on that podcast.

37:10So we learned absolutely nothing new. It was so underwhelming. Actually, what I wanted to learn more about was the cast members that we never hear from. Again, Lauren Conrad, but I think that Lauren Conrad was so, what's the word? She's so guarded and understandably so. Yes, she's very buttoned up. And you feel like you don't really like actually know her. She is unknowable. She is the Mary Kay and Ashley of reality TV. Every glimpse and picture that you get of her, it's always shocking because she lives such a private life, which we completely understand and support. But she said on Kristen's Honestly Cavallari podcast that Kristen had her on, I listened to the entire thing.

37:49I appreciated Kristen's desire to get stuff out of Lauren. She was like, so you and Lo had a falling out. Tell me more about that. If you're Laguna Beach knower and lover, you know that there was a falling out between Lauren Conrad and Lo Bosworth. One of them unfollowed one another. They weren't liking each other's things for years. I think Lo recently re-followed Lauren. But we all know something happened. And Lauren was just chalking it up to, well, we just moved to different coasts and we've always been okay. But that's a lie. Lauren Conrad also— Yeah, because they literally unfollowed each other.

38:21They acted like they just grew apart. It's like, no, you don't unfollow someone that you grew apart from. Right. And it was very clear to me that Lauren wanted to make sure she was protected so much so that she requested executive production rights. Both her, Kristen, and Steven all got executive producer titles. So they could—it's like what the Kardashians do. You edit it in such a way that presents you in a light that only you want the audience to see. So it was very clear to me that Lauren was—she was Lauren-ing. She didn't give us anything, which was disappointing because I think that unlike Kristen, who doesn't— shot her trap like all she does is talk which all she does is fucking yeah like we've heard all the more of the story and the fuck that you used to do cocaine recreationally but there is certainly not a problem um i would have loved to hear more from lauren and how she was able to like i would love for the host to double click on what was the final straw that made you leave reality tv and then never come back not only never come back from reality tv but also never do any public events or anything.

39:23Also, I would have loved to hear more about Christina's mental health struggles. They asked her one question about it. It seemed that she dealt with really severe mental illness. She responded and then nothing was double clicked on after that. That actually pissed me off. Yeah, she said that she literally had a mental break and was seeing things. Yes. And Casey Wilson, the host, and I was talking about this with Ryan Bailey also because he didn't watch it, so I was recapping it. And I was like, I don't think she was a bad host. I feel like she was like kind of just there. Like I would have now that you mentioned it, like double clicking into more of these questions.

39:59Also, Trey, did Trey say one sentence? They didn't ask him anything. And he was like he was the guy that was really artsy, putting on fashion shows. And I know that they asked like, oh, you worked in the fashion industry, you worked for Vera Wing. OK, anyway, back to Talon. Back to Kristen. Yeah. It felt like a lot of things were cut and they were showing us things that they thought we wanted to hear. But it's like, wait, I want to hear more about that. Ask another question. Oh, on to the next. It felt very frustrating. I would have loved for Casey Wilson to have asked Christina, maybe she did and it didn't get shown.

40:33Okay, you were really positioned as this good choir church girl. Your father was a reverend. We watched like you and Morgan talk about both of you being virgins during high school. You had this persona. And then we hear that you're abusing drugs and alcohol your senior year of college. Do you think that maybe played a part, your role on Laguna Beach and being the good girl shaped you kind of rebelling your senior year of college? Because like I've spoken about this before, but every, a lot of girls that I knew that grew up in like the daughter of a pastor, daughter of a reverend, it was very traumatic because your lights are always on you and you feel like you need to be perfect.

41:06And then at one point you rebelled. Was that something that she experienced as well? And then being spotlight, not only just as a pastor's daughter, but on TV, Like, I'm sure that probably shaped the way that she moved in college. But again, none of that was brought to light and that really disappointed me. Yeah. You know what I'm just thinking of? We've talked about, like, Mormonism in Orange County. Is it safe to say that Morgan grew up Mormon? Because she gets rejected from BYU. Yes. Yes, 100%. She was Mormon. Like, just from BYU. You're not applying to BYU. Actually, I'm going to see. What percentage of BYU students is non-Moron?

41:41I'd be very curious about that. One to five percent of students at BYU are not members of the church. And that was her dream school that she got rejected from. It wasn't like that was just like a backup. Right. That was the only place that she wanted to go. So that's actually very interesting. I feel like there's underratedly a quite substantial Mormon population in Orange County. I know we talked about the Pop Apologist girls grew up Mormon in Orange County. Yeah, I know. We talked about this because it seems like the Secret Lives girls, at least Jen Affleck, is moving to Orange County to do a spinoff of the Mormon Wives.

42:13and I was telling Sophie, like, growing up here, I knew two Mormon people. I don't know any Mormon people today, but I'm sure they all just kind of hang out in their own communities because, like, that's not something I ever saw really growing up, other than, again, two people. Yeah, but they exist out there. Yeah. I don't know. Maybe you need to, like, expand your social circle. At this, at my big age? No. No. Can we please talk about the West Mandaciding this weekend and also the fact that Wes was seen leaving her apartment on Saturday morning as well. Yes. Okay. So on Friday, whatever fucking day that was on Friday, the 10th, Amanda posted a statement, her first statement since the original statement with Wes.

42:57And it was a picture of her dog. I think this one's Reese sleeping. And she goes, hi, guys, I'll keep this short and sweet. I've obviously been MIA, but I wanted to come back on and say that I'm truly sorry to everyone. I've disappointed and hurt, especially those I know personally who I've reached out to individually. For the sake of my mental health, I'm going to try to start living life with some sense of normalcy. If you see me out or posting online, please know that this still weighs very heavily on me. I'm not ignoring what's happened or what's unfolded. I'll be at the reunion and we'll be addressing any and all questions honestly and directly there.

43:28I thought this was such a like weird statement to make, but at the same time, I was like, okay, sure. Like maybe she has brand partnerships to post. Like, Instagram is her job. Like, I, you know, if she has to go back to work, sure. Or like, maybe she is contractually obligated to go to Coachella with a brand. Like, I thought she was going to go to Coachella or something. No, she just wanted to go to the Blind Tiger in the West Village, one of the busiest, youngest bars in Lower Manhattan with West. Yeah. And apparently the Blind Tiger is like a very young 27 year old bar. Yeah. And everyone was like, it's very young.

44:07It's very busy. Like, did you want to be seen? Yes. But then she was wearing a scarf and wrapping it around her head like Kim Kardashian at Coachella. Yeah. What are you doing? What are you doing? Literally. And then they were apparently at Emmett's Emmett's on Grove, also in the West Village. They were spotted at like a few different places in the West Village. They were like bar hopping, restaurant hopping. They were on a double date apparently at emmerton grove and we're spotted making out and then there was like a close up photo of west leaving her apartment on saturday morning and it's like did they call the paparazzi on themselves like why is this photo so close and so clear and why did they if they wanted to spend time together why are they going to these busy ass west village bars on a beautiful friday where everyone is going to spot them.

44:56They are definitely sticking it to the Bravo audience and saying, we're hearing what you're saying. I know you're saying that Wes is fucking around on me. He's out having dalliances with many a girl in every part of the country. I think that she wants to show and he wants to show everyone that their connection is real and that to really fuck the haters. Like, we're here and we're here to stay. We feel very strongly about one another and say what you want, but this is like a real relationship for the both of us. I think that's what they were trying to prove. and I just think right now I mean I guess one point is like what are they supposed to do just hide be in hiding forever which of course like that's not realistic but I think it's the fact that they decided to be seen like you said at a West Village yeah it's just so brazen it's very brazen and I think that now's not the time Amanda like it's too sensitive right now the Bravo audience is psychotic including you and I it's too soon for us to see you being so carefree around him and I understand like we're only seeing a small glimpse you're probably going through it behind the scenes But like, we don't really want to see this right now.

45:54Well, I completely agree. It's like, we don't need them banished, you know, to the forest. Like, just because they, you know, did what they did, which is really bad. They're not gonna, you know, they don't deserve to die. Like, I understand that they are going to live their lives and go about their business. But something about this, it was the statement in tandem with the appearance. If she just like went out, was seen out, it would be like, okay, whatever. But the statement was so bizarre. And then she's hiding her face. Wes is like throwing up peace signs. He also, the complex posted that he's going to be hosting a new series.

46:33I know. So Amanda is still kind of in hiding. Wes is hosting a new series. He's throwing up peace signs. There are also, did you see that there is potentially a Summer House spinoff called Summer House Ozarks? Yes. And Wes is going to be the bridge. right apparently um which who asked for that it's like he he keeps i mean we'll see if that actually ends up happening i would guess that that probably is in jeopardy at this point because the bravo audience is still very angry at both of them i think for me right now i am like extremely disgusted by west i think that the mass completely fell on him and i think that he's we've talked at this.

47:15Like, I think he's scary. I think he's a scary guy. And the mask has fallen. I don't think that he is going to get back in the good graces of the Bravo audience anytime soon. So I would be very surprised if they kept giving him opportunities. Yeah, I agree. And I think that at this point, we're a little bit fatigued by it. And I think for them to both think it's appropriate to show up like this now pre-reunion, I think they're just wanting to let everyone know pre-reunion, we're here to say. And Wes is discussing, I completely agree. When it comes to this Ozark spinoff that he's going to be spearheading or being the bridge to.

47:48Maybe it's his friends from home. Who knows? I don't care. And I don't want to watch it. And Martha's Vineyard didn't really do well. It's like, we don't want to see the Ozark. But I heard it was really good, by the way. It was. And so that's what's also disappointing is that Summer House Martha's Vineyard was a black cast that got canceled after two seasons. The Ozarks, from what I know about it, I've never been. But Olivia is from the St. Louis area also. Very familiar with the Ozarks. It's apparently predominantly white. So it's like you canceled the one Summer House spinoff to usher in this probably predominantly white spinoff that is spearheaded by one of the most problematic men on Bravo right now.

48:30100%. If this is true, like, I don't know if this is actually true. Demois posted it. And then there also was a clip of West interviewing Jon Hamm. And he was like, so what would you think if we hypothetically did Summer House Ozarks? What if that was in the works? And he's trying to do like, wait, did you not see the video that I posted on Stark Bates Instagram story? No, I didn't see it. Oh my God, gross. You didn't see this video? No, I know. His face. Go watch it right now. He's like making sexy faces. that he thinks are sexy. Like he's trying so hard. He's so gross. I hate him. I'm sorry, I'm getting so passionate.

Can we just really fast do dark energy objects and light energy objects? Of course. Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, 100%. Okay, so Euphoria. We did a live chat on Patreon last night about the Euphoria premiere. While watching the Euphoria premiere, it was so much worse than I thought it would be. No, that's also my dark energy object. It was honestly worse. We knew it was going to be bad. It was worse than I could have ever imagined.

52:11It was so bad. It was so disgusting. The scenes with the drug balls that Rue and Chloe Cherry, Faye or whatever, had to swallow and then shit out. It was so disturbing. Sam Levinson deserves to be in prison. And you could also tell that Jacob Lordy was, like, phoning it in. Like, what was that accent? What was that acting? This is an Oscar-nominated actor. No, I know. I was like, this can't be the same guy that did Frankenstein. He was so phoning it in. It was crazy. So I will continue to watch the season because I'm a masochist, I guess. And I've already committed how many years to the show. So I guess I'm I'm I'm going to keep watching it, but I'm not going to enjoy it.

52:57I'll tell you that much. Yeah, that shit is dark and weird. And Sam Levinson is a fucking freak. My light energy object is the show The Other Two, which so many people told me for so long to watch. And I finally, I just like needed a good comedy this weekend when I wasn't feeling well. So I started it this weekend. It's so freaking funny. It reminds me so much of Broad City. They also, there's a scene that I sent you in season two where they referenced Noah Centineo's squirt video. So you gonna show me how you squirt or what? Yeah, I'm hurt. That was so funny. This is made for me. I know you never watch Broad City either, but it has that same like absurdist comedy.

53:36It's so fucking funny. And it's basically about two. I'm just explaining this to Christy because I feel like so many of you hopefully watch the show. I know I'm years late to it, but it's about the two older siblings of like a tween boy that becomes a superstar overnight because of his hit single. I want to marry you at recess. And he's supposed to his name is Chase Dreams. He's clearly supposed to be based on Justin Bieber. And his manager's name is Streeter. It's so funny. That's so on the nose. I know. And it's so funny because we just did the Justin Bieber episode. It was Bieber-chella. This is a Justin Bieber hype episode.

54:16Yeah. He's having quite a moment on snark bait. So that is my light energy object. Highly recommend. It's on HBO Max if you need a new comedy series. And if you haven't watched it before, I am so obsessed with it. I can't stop watching. So, and there also need to dig into this when I have a chance. It got canceled after three seasons because of behind the scenes on set drama with the showrunners. So that's another thing that I want to dig into now that I'm like watching the show. But yeah, I think that's about it. If we need to hop off because of your contractors. Yeah, I heard my garage door open.

54:52I was like, is someone here? Is someone here to take me? Yeah. and I looked at my ring I'm like oh my god they're here they're like setting up so yeah I gotta go guys but thank you so much for listening live shows sub stack our instagrams we're coming to LA in like a month New York and Chicago in June so we're excited to see you guys there and um yeah everything all of the links are in our show notes per usual thank you guys for being here have an amazing week love ya bye
