In short
The episode of Snarkbait (“Dark Energy Tuesday”) is a pop-culture snark roundup focused on influencer authenticity, reality-TV fame, and legal/ethical controversies. Topics include: Serena Kerrigan’s heavy face-editing/AI-like photos and alleged “disingenuous” confidence branding; Alyssa Flewellen (“Please Don’t Buy That” feud) and her loungewear brand “Silks,” which Mallory claims is illegally marketed as pajamas despite being viscose (flammable) and misleadingly named; and Real Housewives of Orange County’s season storyline alleging Katie Janela is spreading/planting stories via “bloggers/podcasters,” with discussion of the custody-issue controversy and who may have brought it up. Guests/featured people: Serena Kerrigan (influencer); Alyssa Flewellen (TikTok creator/brand owner); Mallory from “Please Don’t Buy That” (fabric/manufacturing reviewer); Katie Janela (RHOC); Matt Rife (comedian); Kenny Rodriguez and Janae (Love Island: Beyond the Villa). Key claims/examples: Kerrigan’s “ChatGPT/FaceApp” look not matching her real appearance; “Silks” pajamas allegedly include a caution label and are reported to the FTC; RHOC cast allegedly used custody rumors (and Heather Dubrow denies digging); Rife buying the Warren occult museum/Annabelle; Kenny allegedly racist and using Janae for clout, with a dinner scene showing “serial killer” eye contact and “space” betrayal.

We are talking about Serena Kerrigan, Alyssa Flewellen, if I'm pronouncing that right, versus Please Don't Buy That, Real Housewives of Orange County, Matt Reif. Ugh. I can't with him. Beyond the villa. I know. I really can't with him.
1:24Like him and something with him and Chase Stokes. I think maybe that's why I dislike him so much because he mirrors Chase Stokes' look. It's the lip filler of it all. Kenny from Beyond the Villa and our dark energy and light energy objects of the week. Let's get into it. Let's do it.
1:53hi christy hey sophie how are you i am good how was your weekend oh my god i just got back this is the first weekend back home in two weeks and it feels honestly so good to be back in my own bed and to go to the bathroom and my own bathroom and to shower and my own shower. And last night I went to this country bar and like bring back more country bars. Like, do you like country music? I forget. Okay. So country music, I used to hate it, but it's kind of grown on me in recent years. I don't know why I like discovered Chris Stapleton, like obviously Casey Musgraves, who doesn't love her. I don't, I don't know.
2:36I feel like I'm, It's growing on me. But what is a country bar? Like a honky tonk? Kind of. So some country bars, people actually like line dance. And when I was in Austin a couple years ago, people are like masters at line dancing. They know all the moves. Everyone in the bar is line dancing. And it's like, it's super cute. This is more of just like at this particular bar I went to last night, it was a live band. And they were playing like Keith Urban. And it was just so much fun. Like I was just dancing by myself just like to Keith Urban and country music just is so it's like uplifting for the soul.
3:13I don't know. Oh my God, that sounds so fun. I do love a honky tonk from the few times I've been in them. Yeah, and there was also a mechanical bull at this bar that I went to. Did you ride it? No, I didn't. I don't know if it would cost more if I would have to like ride it because I was like, I'm not going to pay like$5 to be humiliated. but a lot of people were in line and it seemed like it was a very popular activity for everyone at the bar. But in any case, I went out to a country bar. That was really fun because when I was in Nashville, I went to like a country bar and I was like, I need to, you know, I need to get my fix in because I didn't, I wasn't able to go to too many country bars when I was in Nashville.
3:52But how are you? What's the tea? What's been going on? Not much. I had a really fun weekend because my sister-in-law and brother-in-law visited us for a little kid-free weekend for them. So we just had a time yesterday. We saw Ann Juliet on Broadway, which I cannot remember what the context was when we were talking about Charli D 'Amelio. We recorded a bunch of episodes on Friday. You guys, we just like batched some episodes. So I can't remember what the context was, but I was like, what happened to Charli D 'Amelio? I know she's on Broadway. She's in Ann Juliet and she's not like the lead or anything.
4:27She was kind of just like a background dancer and she was amazing. and the show was amazing. It's basically like Romeo and Juliet rewritten in a way that like Juliet kind of like chooses herself and doesn't die when Romeo dies and it's all modern music. You would actually love it. It's Backstreet Boys, like Britney Spears, Katy Perry songs, just an amazing show. And so yeah, that was fun. Yeah. I love an early 2000s remix kind of thing. Oh, it was like, I just love going to a musical where I know all of the music. Like it makes it so much more enjoyable. It's like when I saw Chicago with Ariana Maddox, I already knew all of the songs in Chicago and it just made it that much more fun.
5:12Also went to, because my sister-in-law was like in the market for a new bag, which she ended up getting. We went to The Row, which I had never been to The Row in New York before because it's so nondescript. We talked about The Row in our Mary-Kate and Ashley episode. So listen to that if you haven't yet. But it was like such an experience. Like it's so nondescript. Even like the bags, like the shopping bags don't even have a logo on them. It's like, oh my God, so quiet luxury. What is the insignia like outside the store? Does it say the rowers? They're not even like - You would never know. You would never, literally never know.
5:45Yeah, so. That's so much of you, Ashley. I know. It's like so just like old money. Who owns a row bag of you baby snarks? And are you pleased with your purchase? Yeah. Yeah, I was eyeing the 90s bag. I'm on a shopping timeout right now. So like, I am not allowed to get it. Just myself. Henry also was like, no, stop, put it down. But let us know, you guys, if you have a row bag, if the 90s bag is worth it. It is just on my list I've been eyeing. Anyway, I guess let's jump into it. Where should we begin, Christy? You choose. so I was perusing NYC Influencer Snark and I came across a picture of Serena Kerrigan that I think she posted on her TikTok I'm not really sure but I have no idea who this woman is she just strikes again with her disingenuousness her ingenuity is that a word she's just not being genuine to her followers between her osumbic usage and telling everyone to love herself to be the queen of confidence she just presents herself like she has the most confidence in the world puts a picture of herself on the internet that quite literally looks like chat gpt wrote it for her and there have been many a times when sophie and i will not sophie because she's like very conscious of the environment but i'll use chat gpt sometimes and there have been times when i'll put sophie and i's photo in chat gpt for it to like spin up a picture of us and the way that it makes us look is like one first of all like very offensive for me at least second of all it just doesn't look like me and this is a clear example of serena kerrigan's chat gpt photo not looking like her This is not her.
7:20She's the final. She's the final boss of face apping. And it's crazy, like the audacity to post like a video of herself where like you can see what she really looks like. And then a photo where it's like just face tuned face app to the gods in a way that like it's not it's literally not recognizable. It's like, who do you think you're fooling? And we talked about this in our Serena Kerrigan episode where like she like will whiten her eye. It's like every inch of her face is touched up. Like I understand. like we talked about taking like a using the blur tool on my forehead of my forehead shiny or like whitening my teeth just a tiny bit but like actually changing your facial structure and making yourself look like you are just an airbrush like you said like chat gbt also wait that's so funny that you I didn't even know that that you've tried to make chat gbt like make a make a an illustration of us and it's a fact they like they give me like a big nose and like puppet strings like a Jewish stereotype.
8:17Yeah, no. When I put it through ChatGPT, I assumed they were going to just use that same image and then just draft like a different background. But they'll literally turn us into different people. Like it's not, it's like a cartoon of us. And I feel like that's what Serena Kerrigan is. And like, I'm looking at this photo right now. And obviously, Sophie will post it on her Instagram grid on the carousel. But she has like really, really like big cheeks, really big lips. Her skin is so airbrushed. It literally looks like it's Pixar. It's very bizarre. And I think that she is just, I feel like all the trends that we are doing are soon going to go out of vogue.
8:50And I feel like we've talked about this on Snarkbait. But you have these certain beauty trends that are in and then they go out of vogue. So for instance, like the BBL trend and then the buckle fat removal at one point was like really in. And I feel like people are more into the bigger cheeks look. Like trends come and go. And I just really hope that whatever Serena Kerrigan is doing to her face, she realizes that soon whatever she's doing will go out of vogue. And then she'll just be. and I don't we don't know exactly what work she's gotten done or if she's gotten work done on her face I would assume so besides like Botox fillers maybe she's just it's just like photoshopping herself like I literally don't know but in any case I feel like it's just like extremely toxic like you are like playing into the toxicity of the internet like knowing that you have young girls following you and you're still making yourself look like this on Instagram is just insane.
9:41Do you remember, this is such a core memory for me because I used to be a huge fan of Pretty Little Liars back when it aired, even though the show was so stupid. They did some publication with that, maybe it was Teen Vogue or something, and all four girls were on the cover and they were incredibly airbrushed as magazines did and still do. And I think it was Ashley Benson and Shay Mitchell that like called out the magazine for making them thinner making their skin more airbrushed and they were like this is literally not us like who is this and I feel like that is not common because everything that we unfortunately whatever we saw on Teen Vogue in the in the target aisle is now on our phones 24-7 which we are now glued to all the time so it's like yeah look at these images of Serena Kerrigan and she does not look like that I saw a couple pictures of people saying Kit Keenan was doing something similar to her face it's like who are you?
10:31Like when people meet you, I would feel like I'm perpetually catfishing people if I look like a different person. It's like the Danielle Bernstein effect where it's like people would meet her in real life and they were like, whoa, like you look completely different than you do on the internet. It's crazy. And again, it's just it's playing into the toxicity of the internet. And I understand to an extent the pressure to conform to just beauty standards. But like at what? There has to be a line. Like there has to be a line where you're like, yeah, but like, this is what I look like. And this is me.
11:05And I have a platform. I have an audience of young women following me. And do I really want to play into the toxicity? I don't know. I'm very sensitive about this subject. And I actually wrote down Serena Kerrigan in my notes for DT for a different reason. And you guys know that she's like my B.E.C. a little bit. B.E.C. means bitch eating crackers where like anything this person does kind of annoys me. But as you guys know, I'm a very hands-on dog mom. She and her boyfriend, Felix, brought their dachshund poncho to the south of France with them, which, okay, but brought their dog to a beach club, brought their dog on a boat, force the dog to like put on a life jacket and swim.
11:52What? And the dog looked miserable. And it really got me thinking. I was like, this person bought this dog as an accessory. And instead of changing around her lifestyle or modifying her lifestyle to now be a dog mom, it's now like, oh, I'm just going to bring Poncho to the South of France with me and bring him to a beach club. A beach club is like extremely overstimulating for a dog. also like the way that she I've never had a dachshund I know that you have to be very careful with their backs they tend to have back issues the way she she holds him I'm like that doesn't look comfortable for him he looked miserable on this boat it's like an accessory for her and then she posted this on Instagram either today or yesterday we're recording on Sunday August 10th she posted a story basically promoting his Instagram because he has his own Instagram account called like Poncho the Diva or something.
12:49She goes, for whatever reason, I never liked vlogging for myself, but now I'm obsessed with vlogging through Poncho's lens. It's been so fun writing these with Felix. Such a great project for us. And his account has been growing like crazy. If you are a brand or another creator that wants to collab, hit us up. It's like you are literally exploiting your dog. Like you bought your dog as an accessory, as something to exploit. And it's like very upsetting to me. And you know what's probably sick? She uses all of her dog's expenses probably as a write-off. Oh, probably. Yeah. That's probably why she did it.
13:22She was like, oh, well, I'll grow my brand and I can also write this off so I can get more money at the end of the year. I'm sure I think about that actually all the time with influencers. They probably write off literally everything. If they post one thing on their Instagram, they're like, okay, right off crazy no yeah no i know i know yeah she just is very disingenuous and again it's i think a lot of people can present themselves on the internet as someone that they're not just to create or uphold this brand or this like image that they have but i think with serenity kerrigan we say time and time again the reason why it is so egregious is because she platforms herself as a person who is authentic to herself and who can be confident without any external factors when she literally does not practice what she preaches.
14:05And it makes me wonder who follows her earnestly. Like, who are her fans? Yeah, let us know, you guys. Genuinely. Like, do any of you guys that are on NYC Influencers, do you look at her and are like, I think she's perfect. I think she's a great influencer. She's very... I think she's aspirational with Fifi. Yeah, that's what I was going to say. Is she aspirational? That was the word I was looking for. Do you think Fifi is aspirational, you guys? Let us know. I want to touch on really fast. Have you heard of this, please don't buy that drama with Alyssa Flellen. I don't know if I'm pronouncing that right.
14:36Flewellen. Oh my God. Okay. Do you know, please don't buy that on TikTok. Doesn't she post dupes? What she does is she basically, she has a background in like retail and design and fashion. And so she will buy influencer brands and review them to her audience. And she's like, oh my God, this is made so cheaply. She reviewed like Daphne. I think she's reviewed the bar. Like some of those like influencer brands. Gotcha. Park. She reviewed Park and said it was horrible quality. And she knows she'll be like this stitching and like this fabric. And like she really understands manufacturing. So I guess there's this influencer.
15:14I have never followed this girl, but she has a ton of TikTok followers. Alyssa Flewellen. She has a bunch of kids who she exploits on the internet, which Mallory of Please Don't Buy That also criticizes heavily as influencers that exploit their children. And this Alyssa girl started a quote unquote loungewear brand called Silks. And she's marketing the loungewear as pajamas, even though it is illegal. And Mallory of Please Don't Buy That has called her out repeatedly. It's kind of like a feud at this point. It's illegal to market these garments as pajamas because they're made from viscose, which is flammable.
15:55It's a polyester viscose blood. It's not silk. You would think based on the name silks that they're made of silk. They're like bonnets and like buttoned down pajamas. And Mallory was like, these are flammable. This is illegal. And viscose cannot even be produced in the U.S. because it's so harmful to factory workers. It literally causes cancer. Like it's known to cause cancer from people who produce it. So you know that it's being produced by exploiting workers overseas. when Mallory of Please Don't Buy That ordered them to test them, it came with a big yellow caution tab to not wear them as pajamas.
16:33They have to have a snug fit because they're flammable. It's literally illegal. And pajamas are very, especially children's pajamas, are very, very, very highly regulated in the U.S. So that's why this is so illegal. And she's even said, like, she's hashtagged bamboo pajamas. Like, use the hashtag bamboo pajamas. And Mallory's like, they're not made from bamboo. Like you are literally misleading your customers. So Mallory, please don't buy that reported silks to the FTC. She's also just been making these videos about it. She's obviously irate. She was like, this is illegal. You are selling flammable pajamas to children.
17:09And Alyssa ended up leaving a snarky comment on Mallory's TikTok and said, I stand by every product I've created. And so do my reviews. Kissy emoji. I'd actually love to send you a PR box so you can judge it in real life, not just on IG, sassy emoji. You should try to start and love letter emoji. You should try to start a business yourself too. Maybe if you had a business. She was literally saying maybe if you had a business you're passionate about would be more, much more productive than spending your time bashing other people's success and hard work heart. Send me your address and I'll get that sent over you.
17:41And then Mallory went off. And yeah, I just think this is like so interesting.
17:54So my toxic trait is that I always let work around the house slide a little bit in the summer. I'm just so busy and so is Henry, but that's why we love TaskRabbit, whether it's for mounting TVs. They do it in under seven minutes, you guys, very often. Building furniture or plunging a clogged toilet. Yes, seriously, true story. And no, I'm not embarrassed. TaskRabbit skilled taskers are always there to help with whatever I need, often available same day. They're always so fast and it's the most easy and convenient way to get stuff done that I simply do not have the bandwidth or skill to do myself.
18:28Because let's be real here, you keep saying you'll hang those frames and fix that doorknob, but you definitely have better things to do. 19:21This is tea. It's like a juicy TikTok feud right now, you guys. Wow. I, okay. Apologies for being on my phone. I'm just trying to figure out who this Alyssa Flewellen girly is, but good on Mallory for just like telling her what it is. Oh my God. And please don't buy that is an amazing follow you guys. I highly recommend following her. She's awesome. And again, just so knowledgeable about fabrics and manufacturing and just reviewing all of these brands so that you don't make the mistake of buying them. Wow. This is, this is juicy, but I'm glad that please don't buy that is calling attention to this because yeah, she shouldn't be marketing it as something that it's literally not.
20:02Yeah. It's like literally against the law. And again, it's like against FTC regulation or whatever. Yeah. And Mallory is like these viscose, like viscose is illegal to produce in the U.S. It's illegal to sell these flammable pajamas to children. Oh, my God, this is so messed up. And the fact that the company is called Silks. And yeah, like implying that their pajamas, even though they're not legally allowed to be. It's just this whole crazy thing. But yeah, thank God for Mallory. Thank God for please don't buy that. So now I know who is now I know who I'm going to or following, it's going to be Mallory, not Alyssa.
20:37This is juicy. And now I'm looking forward to watching Mallory's reviews in the future. Oh yeah. I love her content. You guys highly recommend. What are brands that she has favored? If you can recall, sorry not to put you on the spot. Honestly, honestly, like not many, like a lot of the brands that there have definitely been some. But overall, she because a lot of these influencers are creating fast fashion crap. Right. Right. Yeah. Wow. I I will be going down a bit of a rabbit hole this afternoon. Yeah. She's made. Oh, my God. She's made so many videos on her TikTok right now. She's made so many videos about silks.
21:21It's so funny. Oh, my God. But yeah, highly recommend this rabbit hole, you guys. It's really entertaining. Okay, the next thing I want to talk about, I know you're not watching Real Housewives of Orange County, but basically the entire premise of the last couple of episodes, the season just started about a month ago, is the entire Housewives gang going up against Katie Janela. I think she's the first Asian Housewife on RHOC. I could be wrong, but she seems cool enough. I really liked her in her first season but I think the entire season is centered around Katie Janela allegedly going to they keep using the term bloggers but what they really mean is podcasters and Bravo content creators like Bravo Babe or Bravo Investigator people like us probably that talk about Bravo apparently Katie Janela went to Kiki Monique I think her handle is the talk of shame and she got lunch with Kiki Monique and allegedly told her all these things about the housewives And what the housewives are saying are Katie was using the talk of shame, Kiki Monique's online presence to plant stories about RHOC before the season.
22:33Emily was claiming that Katie was calling these bloggers saying this is what you need to say and this is what you need to put out. And it eventually got back to like Tamara, Emily, Gina. So they, of course, do not trust Katie. And what I have to say about that is last reunion, Heather and I think Emily and Gina brought up the fact that Katie didn't have full custody over her children for a period of time a couple years back. it was very embarrassing for Katie because basically she broke down in tears and was like you don't understand actually what happened and she what she was basically saying without outright saying it was that she was a victim it seems of like potentially domestic violence and she alleges the fact that she was in a shelter and her and her kids like were without a home for a period of time it was very very traumatizing for her to one have to relive and to speak about it on national television when it was not up to her and the reason she even had to bring it up was because Heather Dubrow or someone said, well, why don't you have custody for your kids for a while?
23:30I read this on public record in Georgia that you didn't have custody. What's that about? And I just find it so ironic that the entire reason they're pissed about Katie is because she was trying to spread rumors. It's like you guys brought up the one thing that should never be talked about, which is someone's one custody battle with their minor children. But number two, you have no idea what actually happened. And the fact that Katie was saying it without really saying it, what happened? It's like, how dare you guys? I just find it to be disgusting behavior. It's important. Let me just say, I don't think Katie's a saint.
24:00She's no angel either, sweetheart. I think she definitely is a little shady. And she does lose track of her stories and she does lie. I'm not saying she's perfect. But I think for them to say, and I think, let me back up. The reason why they brought up the custody thing was because last season, it was an entire story that Katie told Katie's daughter when she was babysitting Emily. Simpson's young children told Katie that Emily's kid said Heather Dubrow was mean to Emily. And Emily's like, how dare you bring my children into it? How dare you? I never said that about Heather Dubrow. Why would your daughter lie about it?
24:40And it's like, because they probably did. And Emily, you do talk shit about Heather Dubrow. Like, let's let's be fucking for real. Oh, my God. As an attack, Emily brought up the custody thing. But anyways, the reason I'm bringing this all up right now is because on Watch What Happens Live, Gina told Andy Cohen, she's like, you know, what's interesting about that whole custody thing that we brought up on the reunion was it was not Emily that dug that up about Katie. It was actually Heather Dubrow. Like, dun, dun, dun. Because no one ever wants to go against Dubrow or Tamara. That's just how it works.
25:07And Heather basically took to Instagram stories to dispel this rumor. She's like, that's not true. I don't dig up anything on anyone, nor do I have the time to do so. Me, Emily, and Gina were all passing forward, like, documentation or, like, internet things we were looking at online. but I didn't like go and hire a private investigator to like dig this and dig this about Katie. Whatever it is, it's like you guys were all talking shit about Katie and that should have never been brought up to the reunion. Full stop. I just cannot stand all the housewives on OC except Katie and Jen who are both new housewives.
25:39I just think OC housewives are so threatened by these new housewives and that people enjoy them. And Tamara is so dirty. She fights so dirty. She is so nasty. I am sick of her. Tamara is literally why I stopped watching OC. Yeah. When she came back last season, I was like, you know what? I need to, I can't do Tamara. Like, I literally can't do it. I also think that Gina and Emily, I'm sorry, the fact that they have stuck around for this long is like, what do they have? What blackmail do they have on the OC producers? Yeah. Yeah. I don't get neither. It's crazy because it's really gone downhill, honestly, in the past several years because of Emily and Gina, honestly, in my opinion.
26:24They cheapen the show. I completely agree. Yeah, they cheapen it. They cheapen it. It's like, oh my God, I saw there was like discourse about, I don't watch Real Houses of Miami either, but there was discourse about how one of the housewives on Miami, I think maybe Stephanie bought like an alligator Birkin that was$95 ,000 or something. People were like in this economy. And someone was like, I'm sorry, I cannot cite who tweeted this because I can't remember. I just saw it in passing. Someone was like, watch Gina on Real Housewives of Orange County if you don't want to watch wealthy women. If you don't want like the aspirational, that's why we watch Housewives is because of like wealthy aspirational.

27:02I want to see private jets. Yeah, we want luxury porn. But then they were like, watch Gina if you don't want luxury porn. Okay, you have other options. That's why I've always been confused on one, how they were even hired to begin with. And Emily does have some money, but allegedly it's all from Shane, her husband's parents. Like they come from a lot of money. Wait, remember when it took Shane 27 times to pass the bar? Sorry. I just had to bring that up. I just find their storylines, their home lives to be just, I'm not saying they're bad people. I just think that they're very uninteresting and I don't enjoy watching them on their screens.
27:36And say what you want about Heather Dubrow. She's a fucking nightmare. She's a terror. My turn. If you guys know what I'm talking about with Watch What Crafts. But Heather's aspirational. God damn it. Like she's fun to watch. She is so out of touch with reality. She has so much money, so much fuck you money that it's like entertaining to watch because she's not even a real person. She's like a cartoon. Yeah, that's what I want to see. I want to see Lisa Vanderpump money. I want to see Heather Dubrow money. I don't want to see Gina and her Casita in South Orange County. Like I'm always like, dude, Gina has very normal money.
28:09Like she should not be on this show. So in any case, that's my real Housewives of Orange County rant. and get Emily and Gina and Tamara. I hate her, but she is good drama. She does drive the show, honestly, because she's so messy. I want Vicky back. Do you not? Do you not want Vicky back? I don't know. I love it. I have such a soft spot for Vicky. Really? I love Shannon. I love Shannon. I think Shannon is like my OG. I have a soft spot for Shannon as well. But again, it's like I just, It's not enough for me to come back. I think maybe at some point I will go back and watch last season and catch up on this season.
28:52I just have. I recommend it. I recommend it. I heard last season was really good. Yeah. Christy, what are your thoughts on Matt Reif? I'm just curious because we've never talked about him. Okay. So spoiler alert, we are going to be covering Harry Jowsey in a couple of weeks. And of course, when I was doing research on Harry Jowsey, I got linked to his relationship with Lucy Hale. and obviously I found out that Lucy Hale in my research, she dated Matt Rife. She is so all over the place. Did you know this, Soph? I did not know that. But like Lucy Hale, what are you doing, sister? We need to do a Lucy Hale episode.
29:28She has weird lore. She has very weird lore and very weird energy. Matt Rife, I feel like he was everywhere a year or two ago. Like everyone's like, who's this new pretty boy in comedy? Meanwhile, he has lip fillers. Yeah. Giving Chase Stokes. He went to the Chase Stokes surgeon. But he just has always given me like nefarious vibes. I think he has given everyone nefarious vibes. Yeah. I would agree. Yeah. And all of a sudden it's just like, where's he been? Like he hasn't like been, I think people were just like, no, we don't like him. Like he's not that funny. I guess his crowd work is what made him go viral originally on TikTok.
30:08But he's not like particularly that funny. Oh, he also dated Kate Beckinsale. I was going to mention that. Yeah. Anyway, he was just in the news because he bought the Warren Occult Museum, a.k.a. the home of Annabelle the Haunted Doll. You know what it kind of reminds me of, Sylvie? It reminds me of when Nicolas Cage bought one of the most haunted haunted houses in New Orleans, like one of the most haunted things, I think, in the entire country. it's it's giving like unhinged behavior. Nicolas Cage is such a fuck ass weirdo, but I kind of love him for it. Did you ever watch? Oh, my God. What was the movie that he did?
30:50Oh, my God. What was it called? The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent with Nicolas Cage. That actually turned me into a Nicolas Cage fan. He basically is playing a parody version of himself. And it's so good. It also has Pedro Pascal, who I actually think he does a really good job of this movie. We did a Patreon episode with our hot takes recently. And we were like, what's the deal with like everyone's obsession with Pedro Pascal? Yeah, we had a lot of commentary on that because a lot of baby snark patrons were saying, if you guys watch The Last of Us, you would get the hype. Yeah. And I watched The Last of Us season one.
31:21I just haven't caught up on season two. Yeah. You don't remember? We talked about this, Christy. I didn't realize that you would watch it because I was like, Ben, if you watch it, do you get the hype? I watched. No, I watched season one, though, maybe in season two. I mean, I heard he spoiler alert. I heard he he doesn't survive season two. Sorry, you guys, that's a spoiler. It's like I it got spoiled for me. I haven't even watched it. It was everywhere. But anyway, the interesting thing about Matt Reif buying this now. OK, so he says I've officially purchased Ed and Lorraine Warren's home in a cult museum, including being the legal guardian for at least the next five years of the entire haunted collection, including the Annabelle doll with my good friend Elton Castile.
32:01If you know me, you know, I'm obsessed with the paranormal and all things haunted. It's like us, Christy. Yeah. You also may know that Conjuring films are my favorite scary movies of all time. So I'm incredibly honored to have taken over the most prominent properties in paranormal history. And the Annabelle doll is a raggedy Ann doll that dates back to the 1970s. And it's famous for being possessed by the spirit of a young girl named Annabelle Higgins. It's caused apparently physical harm in supernatural events, which is detailed of the Conjuring horror movies. it's currently locked in a glass case at the occult museum.
32:33But it's interesting because if you heard this in the news on July 13th, the paranormal investigator, Dan Rivera was traveling with the Annabelle doll and died. What? You didn't hear about this? No. Oh my God. I just had chills. Oh yeah. He was traveling with the Annabelle doll. He's a paranormal investigator. Died while traveling with Annabelle. Dude, do we need to do a Patreon episode on Annabelle? Maybe we do. What's the snark on Annabelle?
33:02Jordan goes, no, please. No, like I feel like we do. And then Pennsylvania State Police denied the supernatural playing a role in Rivera's passing. They said his death was natural. Wait, what? I don't know about that. Dude, I believe in that stuff, to be honest. Like I believe in like ghosts and demonic things. Oh my God. I told you guys about how I went to a medium. And so many people were like, oh, she probably looked at your social media. And it's like, if you knew the names that she threw out there, there's no way to know them, even if she stalked my social media. No, totally. I mean, I think there's something to be said about people that can read energies and read beyond just what's sitting in front of us in the natural world.
33:43Oh, my God. That's so scary. I know. I don't like that at all. What's the snark on Anibal, you guys? Coming soon. Yeah. Patreon.com slash SnarkBatePocket. We cover all things every Wednesday. but okay can I talk speaking of truly sinister energy can I just quickly touch on yes Rodriguez from Love Islands Beyond the Villa so as we all know Kenny was caught stepping out on Janae and not only was he caught stepping out on Janae a couple weeks ago at David Dobrik's party but it also we also came to find out that he was being incredibly racist towards Janae and if you're unfamiliar Kenny Rodriguez I think he's Dominican and Janae is a beautiful black woman what we have gathered from the allegations from her best friend that she posted on her Instagram the best friend says that Janay went through his phone and Kenny was saying really explicit things about Janay, such as calling her the N-word, saying that he's not attracted to black women, saying that he hoped that this relationship was going to give him more money, basically using her for clout, knowing that Janay is the star of Love Island.
34:44She's part of the Powerpuff Girls, Leah, Serena, and Janay. And being tied up to the PPG means you will get more brand deals and more money. And Kenny was pissed and caught with his pants down because he said none of this was worth it. So as this is coming out, we're watching Beyond the Villa, which is a spinoff series of Love Island Season 6 cast. Because what's really interesting about Love Island Season 6 is no one was really watching Love Island, at least in the U.S. It was a huge fixation in the U.K., but U.S. was not really a show that many watched. But when Love Island Season 6 cast came on screen, when Ariana Maddox was hosting it, the show experienced a fever dream that, like, no one expected.
35:23This cast came out of the villa and they were the biggest stars literally overnight. And Beyond the Villa is following these people that were living very normal lives. And all of a sudden they're pushed into this influencer career without really even asking. They were just given brand deals. And of course, it's super lucrative. So they took it. And Beyond the Villa is almost like a social experiment. It's a psychological experiment that really kind of shows you what fame, overnight fame will do to a person. And you see all these people from season six that are experiencing various degrees of it.
35:49people that are experiencing like insane mental health, insane anxiety, feeling like they really missed their lives beforehand. Kenny even expressed that he missed his tech sales job before he went on Love Island. He's like, it's weird to live in a life under the spotlight. In any case, I highly recommend it only because it is interesting from a psychological point of view. But the most recent episode was Kenny and Janae going to dinner. Actually, where they went to dinner was the Japanese garden at the Valley and the season finale. They went to that same restaurant. Wait, should we go there when we're in LA?
36:21We should. Yeah, we're going to be, we're, by the time this airs, in two days, all of like this Northgate team is coming to LA and we're doing like this retreat and it's going to be a lot of fun. But Kenny and Janae are sitting at this dinner at this Japanese restaurant and they're talking about how Kenny told Miguel, which is one of the other castmates, how Janae and him wanted space from each other. They both don't live in LA, but they had to be in LA for filming. And they decided to live in the same apartment building, but separate apartments shared by a single wall. And Janae talks about on the show in a couple episodes ago, she said, we were planning on living together.
36:59And then a couple weeks before we were about to sign the lease, he wanted to back out. And he said, I don't want to live with you. And she freaked out. She was like, he doesn't love me. He had cold feet and it made her really unsure about their relationship. But he kind of assured her, no, no, no, just because I I want space. But I guess he told Miguel in a conversation that him and Janae wanted space. And Janae goes, I hope you didn't tell him that it was both of us that wanted space because you know damn well that I wanted to live with you and you refused. When I tell you, look in his eyes, he looked at her.
37:28He hates her. Like, it's scary. And of course, knowing what we know now, it's clear. But I think even if this breakup didn't happen, I think everyone would be urging Janae to run for the hills. It's incredibly sinister the way he looks at her and how much he despises her. And I felt actually uncomfortable. I had to rewind it to make sure that what I was seeing was like, I was like, am I tripping? Or is my like preconceived notion and bias kind of playing in here? No, it was terrifying. And they show this like kind of hot mic moment after they left the restaurant where each of them are talking to their respective producers.
38:00And Janae even says like, he looked at me like he was like a serial killer. It was really scary. My God. I don't know. No, it's just like it's really dark to watch again these people that were pushed into fame so quickly without even really agreeing to it. Because again, Love Island USA, it's not like you're going on like The Bachelor in 2018 when you know you're going to come out super famous. None of them knew that the show was going to take off like it did. So it's not like they were really asking to be influencers. So I think that's a really interesting part of it. But the fact that Kenny is just so clearly using her as a stepping stone for more money and more clout and more fame has a type of sinister energy that I think is just like really dark to see on screen.
38:39Like you hear about it. And I think with influencer culture, which is why we started this show, you have this like idea of, OK, I'm going to become an influencer. I'm going to earn a lot of money for basically being myself and posting and being glamorous. but there's such a dark-sidedness to influencing culture that I don't think is really spotlighted a lot of the time. And I think it's just fascinating to watch it on my screen. Nothing makes you appreciate good bedding more than a hot August night. 41:47Now I'm on to tackling my closet because a huge part of having a calming zen space is letting go of all the stuff I haven't worn in years. That's why I'm so excited this episode is sponsored by Vinted. Vinted is a secondhand marketplace app that makes it so easy to sell the pieces you're no longer wearing so you can make space for stuff that you actually will. As a lifelong renter who's probably going to be renting for the rest of my life at this point, it's hard for me to justify splurging on custom furniture or like chic, expensive vintage home finds when I know this isn't my forever home.
42:57That's what Wayfair is for. Because even though renting makes me less enthusiastic about spending money on furniture and home decor, I still want my apartment to feel chic and elevated, duh. I've turned to Wayfair for home upgrades for over a decade now, long before they were a sponsor. From an armoire in our second bedroom to our randomly extremely chic wicker laundry basket that I'm literally obsessed with, Wayfair makes quality pieces that stand up to real life without breaking the bank. Budget-friendly but chic finds make all the difference in your space, in my opinion, whether you're a renter like me or an actual homeowner, which don't rub it in.
43:32You can even see real customer feedback and photos before you buy, so you can shop with confidence. And with Wayfair Rewards, you can get 5 % back on every purchase, helping you get even more value from your Wayfair purchases and create a home you love without overspending. Every style, every home. Wayfair. Every style, every home. From athletic stuff like a full-court pickup game, swish, to athletic-ish stuff like a half-mile stroll.
44:10Get those steps in. Head to Sierra or Sierra.com for the brands you want at the prices that let you do it all. From athletic to athletic-ish, Sierra's got it. Well, it's like such an adjustment, especially for reality stars, because it happens overnight for them often. Like it literally is an overnight thing. Yes. In a way that it's not for a lot of influencers who are building and working towards. It's over a long period of time. Like it's actually it must just be such a culture shock almost like it's just it happens so fast for them, especially like the explosive success that Love Island USA has had.
44:47over the last two years. Yeah. Yeah. Oh my God. It's crazy. And you know what it reminds me of when you talk about the way that he looks at her and you can see that he hates her. But then you're also like, okay, well, hindsight is 20-20. It reminds me of watching the season after Carl and Lindsay ended their engagement on Summer House. And you can see in Carl's eyes how much he despised her watching that season. Oh my God. That's a good analogy. He resented Lindsay so much. he resented her and I think she was fighting but you're right it felt deeply uncomfortable watching it on our screens knowing how it played out just a couple months later like yeah yeah I don't know it's weird it's I honestly don't wish that kind of microwaved fame to anyone like like you said so many influencers that are popular have been working for years to get the success like we did a Paige Lorenz episode which is why she's just more topical but if you think about her even her career in 2021, it's vastly different than what it is today.
45:46It's because she's been working for years to get to this point. Like people don't experience that microcosm of fame. And even Kayla, one of the breakout stars from Love Island season six, she admitted to her old flame Aaron. She's like, I liked my life before this. Like I'm less happy. I'm getting so many more opportunities, but I'm far less happy with my life than I was before the show started. It's like sad. That actually is really sad. Like you think that it's like really glamorous sometimes, But like, it's actually like some people just want to be normal, you know? Yeah. Because I mean, imagine like being able to go out and like go to Target or like walk your dog.
46:21And then people just like glomming onto you and taking photos of you and only when you take photos of you. Oh my God. Yes. Like I walk my dog and I look like shit. I don't want people talking to me or noticing me, you know? Like I want to be able to just go out and like not be noticed. Like I just can't imagine that. That would really be annoying. Like maybe it would be like cool the first couple of times. And then after that, you're like, oh my God, leave me alone. It gets old really fast. And I think about like Sushi Park, because I saw these pictures of Kylie walking in that strip mall the other day.
46:50And, you know, she always looks to the nines. And in my mind, I'm like, she has to, because it's like when you are out, it's a fashion show. Oh my God. Yes. And I was talking about this. I can't remember who was the patron episode that we did. I can't remember. But I was talking about how like you always have to serve looks if you're an influencer, just in general. all not even because you're going to get recognized but it's like oh my god I have to take pictures so I need to look cute I'm like there's so many times where I'm like I don't feel cute I don't want to take pictures and I don't have to yeah when we were doing our um retreat like itinerary at the very bottom I think it was like Jordan or maybe Rachel they're like oh can you guys like give us some guidance on what to wear and I'm like just serve cunt serve cunt and that isn't uh that that's something I have to give Sophie credit for because she told her brother-in-law when they were in Portugal.
47:36She wanted to serve cunt and he had no idea. Yes. Yes. And then I was actually, you know, what's funny is I was with my other brother-in-law this weekend and we were talking about some influencer, someone, we were just like scrolling on Instagram and we were like, her body is tea. Like me and my, I was like her body is tea. And my other brother-in-law was like, what the fuck does that mean?
47:59Okay. Should we get into dark energy objects and light energy objects? Please. I'll kick us off. I just want to say I'm so happy that so many baby snarks. As of late, the last month, we've been getting a lot of DEO DMs. Like, we haven't even prompted you guys to give it to us. But we've been getting – have you noticed that on Snarkbait Pods DMs? Yes, I love it. I love how it's, like, in so many baby snarks, like, everyday vernacular. Like, they'll just notice something and be like, this is so DE. Yeah. So, a follower named Ratsy – I won't, like, dox her handle because I don't know if she wants to be dox.
48:33But anyway, she goes DEO colon the new IG story. Oh, my God. I hate that font. Do you guys know what we're talking about? It's that fuck ass font that looks like a serial killer. It looks like a serial killer. Speaking of Kenny. It looks like a serial killer is like writing in blood on a mirror. Yeah. Why do they? And now it's like the default. I'm like, stop. Give me poster. Poster. Yeah. Yeah. I don't get it, though. Why do they do that? I hate it. I hate it so much. my DEO. I have two this week. I CVS, CVS locking everything up now. What happened to, I used to love going to CVS. I used to just stop in and be like, this is going to be a quick, quick errand run.
49:18I'm going to pick up my necessities. It now takes me like 30 minutes because everything is locked up. You need to like ring for someone. And it's just so annoying and it's so frustrating. And now it's like, it's, I don't want to go anymore. So now I'm, I guess, getting my basics. I mean, there are always things that I order off Amazon, but now for the things that I would usually just pick up because we have a CVS like next door to our apartment. Yeah. It's too annoying now because everything is locked up. So I'm just going to order everything from Amazon now. Like they were literally losing business.
49:47And I guess the reason that they started locking things up is because of shoplifters, but it's like, just let them shoplift because at this point, like you are losing your, maybe that's why I feel like like so many have closed recently. So many Dwayne reads of clothes. It's like, because you guys keep locking shit up, no one wants to go there anymore. Wait, that's so funny that you're bringing this up because another baby snark DM does this exact same thing. So your, your sentiment is felt. Sophie, I saw this exact thing DM to us. Oh my God. I swear. I came up with this on my own, by the way. I'm not giving you credit.
50:19No, totally. Totally. No. And I wanted to shout her out because I did read that DM, but I, it's like to your point, CVS, the profit that you're like retaining from non-shoplifting, I'm sure is like not greater than the customers you're losing because it's like hella annoying to walk into CVS now. Oh my God. I want to say that CVS as a company is flopping. Honestly. Yeah. They're not technically bankrupt yet, but they've been closing so many stores. So like CVS, listen to our business plan. Yeah. And our business plan is literally just stop locking everything up and deal with the shop. Just let people shoplift if that's what you're so worried about.
51:00Oh my God. Cause we have a business that we're passionate about and you would too, if you knew. If you knew. But you don't. You would know what it's like to run a business. Clearly you don't. They need to hire a Jordan COO of Snark Bay. She could tell them what's. I know. One other DEO. Sorry. Dirty Ubers. Clean it up. I know. I know that that happens. Sometimes you'll have the five star experience in an Uber where they have the water bottles. It's super clean. And then sometimes you're like, what is back here? Like, I shouldn't have to make sure that nothing is sticking to my bum when I leave.
51:37And when I was in Nashville, I don't it's probably because it's a city. And I think just city Ubers are just dirtier because there's more people in and out of the cars. I'm not joking. Like every Uber was filthy. Yeah. And then Shannon told me, she's like, Oh, I always get comfort. Just she's like, it's five bucks extra. And like they're bigger cars and they're typically cleaner. So maybe I need to start doing that. What gets me is the dirty tissues that'll be stuffed in the little, I don't know what it's called, the divot cup holder, like the divot on the doors of Ubers. And I'm like, the dirty tissue.
52:09I know it's disgusting. Cause now I'm like, it's going to get on me. dirty tissue. No, that's how COVID spreads, you know? Oh my God. It's so gross. And I also understand that Uber drivers, a lot of them probably are just going back to back. They don't have time to like clean up every single little thing. But when it's to a point where you're like, oh my God, you haven't cleaned this car in months. Maybe take it off the road. No. Yeah. And I'm not saying like one thing is I'm talking these Ubers were filthy. all over the seats, all over the floors. It's just not pleasant. It's like, okay, well, I just don't like it.
52:47Another dark energy object that I decided I fucking hate is people who post themselves talking while eating a la Bethany Frankel. I hate it so much. And the reason I like don't follow Bethany Frankel closely enough to even let it bother me because she does this so much that I just, I hate it. So I don't watch her content. Maybe it's my misophonia. I just, I hate the sounds of people chewing. I hate it. I think it's disgusting. Erin Leachie from Rony, from the new Rony did this the other day. I actually follow her on Instagram. I like, I can't remember if I did unfollow her or I almost did, but I was like, this deserves an unfollow.
53:27Like it is so fucking disgusting. How long to just wait until you're finished with your meal and then start your video going on a rant about something like just wait until you're done eating. It's disgusting. When I would also hear people put like reviews on podcasts, like stop eating. I'm like, who's eating when they're podcasting? That's so unprofessional. Oh, I, when I started with trigger warning, Ryan Bailey, I actually like would eat sometimes because I didn't know, like I didn't know anything about podcasting. Well, that was like early stages, obviously. That was early stage. I would snack.
53:57I would snack on like a gummy bears or something. I wasn't eating a full meal. I would just sometimes be snacking because I was hungry. And I didn't know that like people would would notice. But people obviously noticed. Yeah. So you know what? I'm guilty of it, too, clearly. But you stop the behavior. You know, it's like, yeah, I just think it's a little bit. No one wants to hear that. Ew. Oh, my God. Stop. Even you just doing that. Oh, my God. It's gross. It's triggering. It's so triggering. Yeah. Chills. Chills down my spine. I apologize for that. Okay. Two LEOs that I want to call out. When I went out, I'm not hungover at all because I drank a full cup of water for every drink I had.
54:35Sometimes two. So just do that if you guys are out drinking. It works. I can attest to that working. It totally does. And then number two, I just had a really busy day today because I was – or yesterday because I was at a baby shower and it was like two hours away and it was just a lot yesterday. But the one thing that really brought my spirits up and like a lot more than I even realized, if you blast 2016 chain smokers like when you're getting ready, there's something about that era. And I know we talk about it a lot on TikTok or you see these like 2016 edits or filters or whatever. But like, I'm telling you something in the era was different.
55:07Like people weren't ordering off of Amazon like every single day. We weren't necessarily on our phones all the time. Like politics were not as crazy. Like it just feels like it was a different time where it was innocence and just love and going out and being like messy, but fun messy. And it got me in the mood to go out because I usually don't like to go out. But it was fun because I blasted roses by Chainsmokers. What was in the air the summer of 2016? I mean, it was like the last hurrah before Trump became president. Yeah. I don't know. There was something like that needs to be studied because everyone looks back at summer 16 like nostalgically.
55:45No one had a bad summer 16. I mean, if you did, let us know. But speaking of nostalgic music, have you seen like everyone right now is shitting on the song Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros? It's the one that's like home is wherever I'm with you. It's one of my favorite songs. Yeah. Okay. It's a great song. It was like earnest. And I'm sorry. Call me a loser millennial. I liked the stomp clap era of music like 2012. Like I liked Ho Hey by the Lumineers. I still like that song. Like I like stomp clap music and they just like, why does Gen Z have to think that everything millennials enjoyed at one point is cringe.
56:28Wait, people, what about that song is cringe? Oh my God. Okay. So there's been this debate on Twitter and like, good for you guys. If you're not on Twitter, like I like still check it. I don't really tweet that much anymore, but I check it a lot. Unfortunately, it's just like a toxic hell site, but there's been a debate about like the worst song of all time. And obviously people have their feelings about what the worst song, like happy by Pharrell. Like there are so many like contenders, but someone brought up the song Home by Edward Sharper, the Magnetic Zeros. And it started this whole discourse where people were like, this song was actually good.
57:00It's earnest. Okay. It's earnest. Not everything has to be ironic now. It's like Gen Z. Everything needs to be like ironic, you know? Wait. Yeah. That song is, it's old school. Is it? When was it written? I feel like, wasn't that like a song in the seventies? I feel like it came out. No. Oh my God. No. It was like 2012. I remember like 2012 was when I discovered it. Okay. 2009. 2012 was when I remember hearing in a coffee shop when I was interning in New York City. And I was like, oh my God, this song is so cool. Home is wherever I'm with you. That one, right? Yeah, I like that song. Yeah, no, it's cute.
57:36I'm sorry. It's a jingle too. Like, I think it always gets people in a good mood. Yeah. And it doesn't, do you know what else? It doesn't feel like corporate happy. Like, because I'm happy. That's like a corporate song. Oh, I hate that song. Or like anything Bruno Mars is kind of like a corporate song. That's not a corporate song. Oh my God. Happy by Pharrell. Speaking of CBS. CVS employees were never the same when Happy by Pharrell came out. The other LEO of the week that I want to discuss is, did you see Miley? She posted like a picture of a wig on Twitter. Did you see this? No, but honestly, I didn't watch Hannah Montana, so it doesn't hit for me.
58:13You didn't? No, no, I didn't. I only, I stopped at Lizzie McGuire. Like that was my. Oh my God. Christy. I know. I know. You like really missed out on an era. My sister was super into it. So I like kind of knew. But no, yeah, I wasn't the Hannah Montana girl. Oh my God. Okay. She tweeted like a picture. She posted a picture somewhere. I'm like, she posted a picture somewhere. Why isn't it not on Twitter? Anyway, she hinted slash teased at the idea of a Hannah Montana tour, which I would love. I can't believe you didn't watch Hannah Montana. No, it's such a blind spot for me. You know what? I also didn't watch it in high school.
58:58You get the best of both worlds. I also didn't watch High School Musical or anything. I actually was not on the High School Musical, like, hype train like everyone else was. Yeah, I think I aged out of that, to be honest. Like, I was just a little bit older. Yeah, I was, like, in middle school. Okay, yes. It says for the 20th anniversary, Miley is like teasing, re-recording. So it might not be a tour, but re-recording Hannah Montana classics and performing them live. Miley's version. At some point. Miley's version. Dude, honestly, if you think about it, it probably makes sense if she's in need for some cash.
59:34She could make a lot of money doing so. Oh my God. So much the nostalgia factor of it all. And like, let's be real here. Miley is so successful, so talented. I don't think she has seen she's a list for sure so successful so talented I don't think she's seen like as much success oh as she could you know something about Miley's career she just never hits she tries so hard and she does like different iterations like every time comes out with an album there's reputation and there's folklore then there's evermore then there's midnights and there's ttp like with Miley she always tries to do something different and iterate her her her image and it never hits for people.
1:00:12Yeah. And I think it is. I think it might be her songs are are kind of fall flat. Not her voice. Her voice is one of the most incredible voices I think of our generation. She has such a unique. It's the songs. I agree. Dark, deep voice. I completely agree. And it's just I don't know. She she's very talented. Oh, and I found the tweet, by the way, Miley Nation tweeted it, not Miley Cyrus. It said Hannah Montana 20th anniversary, 2026 and it's like a mannequin head with the Hannah Montana wig on it oh my god like it got me so excited again I was like maybe like in middle school I was probably too old to be watching Hannah Montana but I loved it it was so good okay anyway I feel like that about wraps up our dark energy Tuesday you guys anything else Christy no you know where to find us at snarkbaitpod on instagram also on tiktok we're not as followed there but we post some unseen clips that aren't on reels um we have patreon episodes every wednesday so head on over there for an episode tomorrow we're going to be talking about influencers in the news so some hot topics and trending topics i'm at christy noel underscore underscore sophie is at soph underscore ross and i think you too jordan our producer rachel our social manager and olivia our researcher.
