3:03Try armoire today. Hey, everybody. Welcome back to another episode of Snark Bait. I'm Christy. I'm Sophie. Hello. How's it going? It is going. It's Thursday, February 9th, early in the morning. Why did I say February 9th? It's early. I cannot believe by the time this airs, you guys were nearing the end of February. And I feel like we just celebrated the new year. And it's making me incredibly nervous. And I don't even know. Do you get this idea? I had this idea pop in my head. And I'm curious if Fabie Snarks also feel this way. I feel like I'm the age of when I was during the pandemic. But I also feel like when I think of the duration of college, four-year universities.
3:43And then I was like, okay, that felt like an eternity. But then I'm like, no, no, no. the March 2020 when everything shut down just happened. I was just living in a little apartment in San Francisco with two roommates and I moved back down to Southern California. Like, what do you mean it's been six years? And then I get weirded out about how time fast is going as you get older. Yeah. Yeah, it does. Because when you're younger, you have such a shorter, what am I trying to say? You have a smaller, yeah, yes, exactly. You've been alive for less years. So one year is one seventh of your life when you're seven years old.
4:18And now it's like one year is like one 50th of our lives at this point. And that's well math. That's well math. That's well me. Yeah. And we were talking about this because Chrissy's birthday is coming up. It's almost Pisces season, which is very exciting. And we were talking about, yeah, we're like, we both still feel the same age we were when the pandemic started. Do you guys feel the same way? Like time just froze. It trips me up. It genuinely trips me up. I get chills thinking about it. And speaking of just nostalgia, when this episode airs, it'll be a week and a half since I went to the Hilary Duff concert.
4:56And if you guys are watching on YouTube, youtube.com slash at snarkbait pod, I am wearing my Hilary Duff merch. And I just have to say, being in a room full of millennial women and the gays is the most healing experience. She opened the concert up with Wake Up and the light shone on her. And it was like the curtain went up and it's like, wake up, wake up. And the entire crowd erupted. And you could feel the vibrations of the entire small venue. And I literally almost started to cry because it just felt like I saw my entire childhood. childhood it was like a a camcorder video from like the 90s where i saw all in like a blink of an eye and i thought life was just so much more simple back then and it makes it very nostalgic like when you go to concerts like that i feel like that's why concerts like there's this vegas one where it's an emo night and they have like thrice and taking back sunday like those bands of like the early 2000s yeah there's just some there's something very healing so i recommend you guys going to any concert of like a nostalgic person that you were a fan of in like your teens early teens.
5:59It's very healing. Yeah, I love the merch. I love it. Looks so comfy. It's like an oversized t-shirt with Hillary's face on it. I want it. Yeah. Do you ever, we've talked about this before, the TikToks that are like your suburban childhood for so many of us that grew up in, you know, suburbia in the 90s and early 2000s. And it has like the creepy like children laughing sound in the background. Yes, of course. And it literally hurts. It's like I am nostalgic for something I can never go back to. We went to bed that night not knowing it would be the last time. Yep. Yeah. Like heavy and like when like the last time I rode my bicycle around my neighborhood.
6:38I started play with rocks because we didn't have devices. Yeah. I played with bugs. Oh my God. You're so brave. Oh, I was like a tomboy. It's really weird now actually looking back on it because I feel like I'm like such a girly girl now, but I was such a tomboy girl. I got my loved bugs and dirt and being outside. My sister actually talked about this in her speech at my wedding and everyone was like, what? Yeah, because you're such a girly girl. You're like, love fashion and like makeup. I loved playing with roly-poly-olies. How come I talk about like, we're living in a simulation or something because how come roly-poly-olies don't, I've never seen one in my adult life.
7:13Like, where are they? Where are they now? No, genuinely. Where are they now? This is a serious question. Actually, when you said that, I just unlocked something. We need like an E! True Hollywood story on roly-poly-olies. Where are they now? Yeah, I need to know. Do you guys see them in your region? Because they're not here. Yeah. I mean, now I just chalked it up to now I live in New York and I don't live in like suburban Ohio. You have an excuse. By the way, have you been watching Love is Blind, Ohio? Love is Blind is crazy. Am I right? Love is Blind is fucking crazy this season. It really is crazy this season.
7:44I have heard it is one of the best seasons we've ever had of the show. I just love this fucking show. It has proven time and time again that Love is not blind. Yeah. I know. And that men are trash, but I just cannot look away. And it's the fact that it's Ohio, my home state. Okay. And it's funny that - No, it's funny because like every other season is like Chicago, Denver, Charlotte. It's like cities. And if this one is just Love is Wide Ohio, I guess they tried to do Columbus and they couldn't find like enough people in just Columbus. So they recruited from the big three, which is Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati.
8:22Gotcha. And it's actually causing a lot of issues because these people are like long distance, you know? They're from polar opposite sides of the state, some of them, so. And I think that's what made the formula of the show so successful was because all these folks lived and resided in the same city. Yeah. And well, I'd imagine too in Ohio, a lot of people are usually already married or I'd imagine you have some divorcees. Because I've heard that it's like people in their 30s, like mid 30s even. Yeah, people get married younger in the Midwest than like the East Coast, for example. There are, there's at least one divorcee on the season, but you should watch it.
8:58Like, come on, what are you doing? I want to go on that show so badly. You should. What are they doing? I wonder when they're doing like a SoCal one. No, they won't. Like they, because they're like, everyone's an influencer. It's too thirsty. Yeah, I had a friend who's a producer on season two and she's like, they would never cast for New York City, for LA. they want more organic like type uh tier b cities and i don't mean that offensively you guys know what i mean like not big cities yeah except chicago they did chicago but that's also midwest yeah i think they would do like miami they did dc yeah but yeah i don't think they would do new york miami la because it's like all hot people it's too thirsty and thirsty people yeah leave it to the bachelor for like those those types of cities yeah well speaking of hot people let's talk about Nina Dobrev.
9:42Yes, let's get into it. I feel like she's been really in the headlines recently. She notably ended her engagement with Sean White at the end of 2025. And I think since then, she's really been on the headlines. Her recent friendship with Kelly Teller and Miles Teller. She was on a yacht in St. Barts with Alex Earl, Glenn Powell, Michelle Randolph. She's kind of just been in the scene and has almost a second comeuppance. And admittedly, I wasn't a Vampire Diaries fan. I was a Degrassi fan and we'll get into all of her IMDB in just a bit, but she was never really on my radar until recently. But I'm curious, what are your thoughts and initial top line like feelings on her?
10:19I really don't have that many thoughts on her. I think that she is so strikingly beautiful. I've always thought that, but I never watched Vampire Diaries or Degrassi. So I'm not super like familiar with her body of work, I guess. But she has been in the headlines, not only because of her breakup with Sean White, but also the, you know, crew that she's been hanging out with. She has been spotted on yachts with, you know, I think the modern day Pussy Posse. That's, if you guys don't know, Patreon.com. Yeah, Patreon. We did a deep dive on the Pussy Posse, but like Glenn Powell and Miles Teller and like that crew.
10:56Chase Crawford, Zac Efron. Yeah, yeah, yeah. She's always on a yacht. And obviously there are yacht girl accusations. I don't know how accurate they are, but they're out there. And I feel like she's just ubiquitous lately without actually being, without actually acting in anything. Yeah. She is, I think, most well known for her yachting rumors in the more blind item-y world. And I think her actual professional career, at least today, has kind of taken like a second, what is the word, second fiddle? I don't know what the term is, but she's most notable, I think, for that. So let's get into it. What is she known for?
11:36She's known for portraying, most notably, Elena Gilbert and Catherine Peters in the CW Supernatural drama series, The Vampire Diaries. Back then, Sophie, we had Twilight, we had Teen Wolf, we had The Vampire Diaries. Were you ever into any of these supernatural-type shows? No, I was never into the vampire craze. The only thing that got me into vampires is Sinners, which came out last year. um no I was never sinners the movie with um Michael B Jordan oh Michael B Jordan yes yes yes and Hailee Seinfeld gotcha um yeah great movie I it's probably gonna win a lot of Oscars this year anyway I yeah I was never into that whole craze where I know that you love Twilight no no I don't I watched Twilight for the first time last year yeah but you loved it I yeah I only got through the first two movies I think it was so bad it was good yeah but I agree I wasn't into this supernatural type of world.
12:29True Blood is another one that really was on everyone's radar in like 2009-ish. True Blood. Did you watch that? No, but like the fact that like a show existed where Alexander Skarsgård is playing a sexy vampire. I forgot he was in it. And he's like so serious. Yeah, maybe I need to. Yeah. So more about Dina Dobrev. She was born January 9th, 1989 in Sofia, Bulgaria, making her 37 years old today. And just a few months before the beginning of the transition from socialism to democracy, like that's when she kind of immigrated from Bulgaria to the United States. And her real name is Nikolina Kaminova Dobreva.
13:07Sounds very like Eastern European. Her father was a computer specialist and her mom was an artist or is an artist. She moved to Toronto at the age of two where she was mostly raised, spent the majority of her childhood there. And she immigrated there with her brother to reunite with her father who moved there to secure work. And I think this is like such a tale of like the American immigrant story. You have a father or a mother that comes to the United States, works and tries to earn enough money to bring their children over. Like it's incredible. And fresh out of the Bulgarian army, her father, Kamen Dobrev, had left one year earlier to secure work and save enough money to bring over her, her brother, her mother.
13:45And in the interim, he was delivering pizzas and he was pumping gas until the funds were sufficient to ultimately bring the rest of his family over. They resided in Scarsborough, Ontario, which was more of a rough area or suburb of Toronto. And the family moved around a lot over the first 10 years. So, you know, she didn't come from the most stable or economically stable family. And I had no idea about this. She looks like she just comes with a silver spoon in her mouth. Yeah. I mean, I was about to say this is the American dream, you know, but they moved to Canada. The Canadian dream. Yeah, you're right.
14:17You're right. You're right. It's the Canadian dream. The Canadian dream. And yeah, I mean, it's this is it literally is. Yeah. And I think that when you look at her, just because she is so stunning and she seems just affluent, just she was born affluent. It just kind of shocked me. I was like, wow, she just comes from really, really humble beginnings. And she really had to work and earn for what she has. So at the age of 10, Nina began competing in gymnastics. And she eventually, you know, she got pretty far in that. but she eventually had to make a tough choice between whether to continue with athletics or acting.
14:49Obviously, she took the latter. And she was taking acting classes in Toronto, and she would take the subway back and forth for auditions each week. And she attended the arts program at Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts in Scarsborough. She speaks a couple of languages, Bulgarian English and a little bit of French.
15:07You guys know I like to have a good time, okay? And Cheers has genuinely changed my relationship with going out. I feel like once you hit your 30s, even if you're just having a completely normal night, like a couple glasses of wine at dinner, a friend's birthday, whatever, the next morning just hits differently. Even if I think I'm doing everything right, baby snarks in their 30s and above, I know you know what I'm talking about. And what I didn't realize until recently is that it's not just dehydration. Alcohol actually affects your brain and your liver, which is why you can feel off even if you drank responsibly and did everything quote unquote right.
15:41This is why I'm so happy I discovered Cheers Restore. They're capsules you take after your last drink or before bed, and the ingredients support both your brain and your liver. I personally keep them on my nightstand, so if I go to dinner, have cocktails with friends, or just have a random Tuesday night glass of wine, I take them and actually feel like myself the next day. And this isn't just some random internet product. Cheers was originally developed by a Princeton student, was featured on Shark Tank, and has sold over 50 million doses, which makes sense because it actually works. Same night out, way better morning with cheaters.

The crossover bra is my personal favorite.
16:49It's so comfortable and it disappears under t-shirts, sweaters, and all my tops. It's wire-free, but still so supportive thanks to its special bonding technology, which is so perfect. It's the softest fabric. I literally forget I'm wearing it. Honey Love lives up to the hype, you guys. I'd heard so much about the brand from so many people, but I didn't truly understand until I tried for myself. And for when I do occasionally leave my house, I love their shapewear. Their superpower thong like sucks me in while still being so comfortable with no panty lines, of course. We also love that Honey Love is an independent female founded brand.

Is there any better feeling in the entire world than getting into a clean bed after an amazing relaxing night shower and turning on old roni?
17:58No. And as I've gotten older, I've realized luxury bedding is something you truly don't appreciate until you sleep in it. But like who has the money to splurge on bedding in this economy? Good news. You don't have to. And that's all thanks to quince. When it comes to quince, you'll notice the difference right away from duvet covers and quilts to sheets and a hundred percent silk pillowcases. Quince bedding is so soft, lightweight, and you can instantly feel how high quality it is. Breathable bamboo, European linen, organic cotton, stripes, florals, limited edition butter yellow. Whatever your preference, Quince has it.
18:33I love our percale gingham duvet cover and how chic and soft it is. I literally feel like I'm crawling into a hotel bed every night, but for a fraction of the cost of other luxury bedding, that's because Quince cuts out the middleman. Don't settle for scratchy and stiff sheets. Right now, get free shipping on your order and 365 day returns when you go to quince.com slash snarkbait. That's a full year to decide if you love them. 19:47so her breakout role was as the character mia jones in degrassi the next generation which ran or her stint was between 2006 and 2009 i was obsessed with degrassi i don't even know at what channel i was streaming it on at a young age but i remember the topics on degrassi felt very heavy it felt like degrassi could walk so euphoria could run it just felt really really heavy for a show and I remember just thinking, I don't know if this show would air in America. It was a Canadian show, but they covered topics between sexual assault, school shootings. We all know that Drake was in the show. So they've, and then Sinead Grimes, who later went on to star in 90210, which was another CW show.
20:26There was a lot of really, really successful actors that had their humble beginnings on Degrassi. Did you, you said you never watched Degrassi? No, I never watched it and I'm like confused why slash how so many Americans were watching this. Like I, it never even like came across my like channel surfing as a child. I don't even know either why I would even watch this, but I remember it being very racy at that time. Yeah, kind of like Skins. Yes, 100%. And I remember watching Skins. Was Skins also a Canadian? Skins was British. Oh, okay. Famously British, Dev Patel, Nicholas Holt. Oh, wow. A lot of big names came from Skins.
21:09I had no idea. And I do feel like American television at this point was not as provocative. Yeah. Not until like Gossip Girl. I think when Gossip Girl aired, it was kind of breaking barriers on, you know, when it comes to television in the US for a youthful audience. Remember the banners on the magazine covers and the billboards, like a parent's worst nightmare. A nasty piece of work. Yeah. That's That's what they used. They used all of the, yeah, it was really smart, actually, in their marketing materials, all of the reviews calling it so disgusting and vulgar. And that's how they promoted the show.
21:49And then obviously, as, you know, middle schoolers or high schoolers or however old we were at the time when Gossip Girl premiered, we were like, yep. We love that show. We want to be blown. Love it. Love it. And I read the books, too. So I was like, oh, fuck yeah. Gossip Girl is, today still stands the test of time. I stand by it. I watch The O.C. And The O.C.'s terrible. It's actually a horrible fucking show. Acting's terrible. like storylines are really out of pocket. No, Gossip Girl holds up. It's really good. So Nina Dobrev after Degrassi, she also starred in a couple of feature films in the mid 2000s that I don't recall at all.
22:20Fugitive Pieces, a movie called Away From Her. But ultimately she left Degrassi in 2009 when she got casted for The Vampire Diary. And interestingly enough, she was sick for her first audition. So she submitted a second tape to make up for how horrible that first audition went. She really fought for that role. And I think that's kind of fate playing, fate and like ambition and hard work really working work hard results will come and that's exactly what nina did so for the vampire diary she would move to atlanta for 10 months each year to shoot 22 episodes a season yeah so when i think about uh cast members moving to a city for production i'm like that must have been so fun you're young you're hot you're around like a lot of young people you're bonding like that's how my study abroad experience was but i also didn't have money.
23:05Like we were broke college kids, but I can imagine like this just sounds so cool. This was pre iPhones and all that. So they got really close. And we later find out, you know, she ended up dating her co star Ian Somerhalder, Somerhal. But the Vampire Diaries aired when the CW was really at its peak. Like we said, Gossip Girl, 90210, the list goes on. And in 2012, she also starred in The Perks of Being a Wallflower. And I love that movie. I don't remember her being in it. It's been a very long time, but I loved Logan Lerman. Oh, yeah. I thought he was so cute. I don't even remember her being in that.
23:41And I feel like I rewatched that recently. I don't either. I think she must have been just like a small supporting role. Yeah. But in 2015, Nina announced that she will be leaving the Vampire Diaries after her role as Elena for six seasons. And she announced this on IG, having around 5 million followers at the time. And she departed in January of 2017. So two years after she departed the series, Nina announced that she would return as her character characters. She actually played several for the series finale. And when she left in 2015, it really wasn't a surprise because she did sign a six year contract and she arrived in 2009.
24:17She left in 2015. And so this was at the end of her tenure, which was expected. Yeah, it wasn't like a shock. Right. It wasn't like Marissa Cooper or when Misha Barton wanted to get out because she wanted to be a big movie star and then nothing ended up happening. Oh, God. Poor Misha Barton. I know. We got to do a Misha Barton episode. Yeah. So she's also started in a couple of romantic comedies like The Dog Days in 2018, then Came You in 2018, Love Heart in 2021 with Jimmy O. Yang. I loved this movie. It's a great Christmas film. Have you seen it? No. Oh, it's cute. It's really – it's like – it's kitschy.

24:49It's fun. It's cute. It's just a feel-good movie. definitely recommend during the holidays. And in July of 2020, it was announced that she was starring and served as an executive producer for a television adaptation of the Women 99 book series, which is actually still in development in 2026. Yeah, that was 2026 years later and nothing has happened. Yeah, I don't, sounds like maybe there was a pause or just a full-on halt. But yeah, that seemed a little bit fishy. Money laundering scheme? Yeah, who knows? I mean, yeah. And in 2025, Nina actually opened up about her fight for equal pay when she was the star on The Vampire Diaries.
25:28So Entertainment Weekly editor Samantha Heifeld wrote a book called I Was Feeling Epic, An Oral History of the Vampire Diaries. And in it, it describes how Nina and all of the other leads were renegotiating their contracts around season three. Candice King, Kat Graham, and Nina Dobrev, she explains, were the lowest paid series regulars in the first two seasons. And Nina goes on to say it was a bit of a tricky situation because my contract only said to play alana but i was playing multiple character characters which doubled my workload and throughout the show nina took on dopling doppelganger versions of alana most famously with the devilish katherine pierce while her male counterparts were just playing one character and allegedly getting paid more oh hate that the studios also allegedly told the writers stop writing for katherine which was her counterpart on the show, because now we have to pay Nina for both roles.
26:18We don't want to. And the showrunner had to beg the network, please let Nina continue to play Catherine and Elena. So in this article, Highfill wrote that Nina Dobrev was ultimately successful in getting more money during her renegotiation at that season three point. But she actually never, ever achieved parody with Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley as series regulars. She ultimately left the show in season six, and the show wanted her back for the final season eight season but she stood her ground fought for equal pay and the network agreed to just pay her one episode at her desired pay so even though she's like if you want me back i can go i can go for the entire season but then pay me fairly and compensate me appropriately and they said we can't do that but we'll give you fair pay for one episode such bullshit and i remember her again i didn't you and i didn't watch the show but i remember her being the face of that show she was the face of the show yes 100 that's some bullshit um i also did just a couple of like quick research on gender pay disparity in Hollywood.
27:13And obviously, I think it's not a surprise in Hollywood or any other, you know, job market. It's there's that gender wage gap. And in 2018, the highest paid actress was Scarlett Johansson, and she made$198.5 million less than the highest paid actor at the time, who was George Clooney. And another has George Clooney even been in recently? And I like George Clooney. But like, what? Like who? I'm sorry. No, I know. It's it It doesn't make sense. It doesn't make sense. And Mark Wahlberg, he starred in a film called All of the Money in the World alongside Michelle Williams. Have you seen it? No, but that was the movie where Kevin Spacey famously had to be edited out for Christopher Plummer, who ended up winning the Oscar for it.
27:55Oh. So this film just has nefarious energy written all over it. Yes, it does. But Mark Wahlberg was paid$5 million for his role. Michelle Williams, however, was only paid$625K. so literally crazy a fifth of what he was making less than a fifth like a one-tenth basically yes you're right yes like that's such fucking bullshit it's bullshit and then rest in peace diane keaton in her 2011 memoir then again she revealed that she didn't get any back-end pay for something's got to give meaning she wasn't paid any percentage for the movie's profits after receiving her initial salary even though she had more screen time than jack nicholson How does that work?
28:34Yeah, it's just a huge problem. It's real. The wage gap is real, not only in Hollywood, but like in the real world. Yes. And I think we, of course, are shocked because these numbers are so ginormous anyways. Yeah. But at the same time, it's like if you are putting in equal effort, your screen time is basically equal. Why would Michelle Williams get paid a fraction of Mark Wahlberg's salary? Crazy. It doesn't make sense. But also Sophie and I next week, we're going to do an episode on things we forgot about in Hollywood, like random stories that were problematic or shocking that people just seem to forget.
29:09And on my list is Mark Wahlberg. Yes. So violent and insidious. So crazy how he has managed to have a career in Hollywood following his very shady. Actually, have you been watching Love Story on FX? I want to watch it so badly. Oh, my God. It's so good so far, you guys. and I was very skeptical. I know this is like a little bit of a segue. I was very skeptical because Ryan, and I was, this is on my list to talk about on Dark Energy Tuesday and we're recording this prior to Dark Energy Tuesday. So I'm sure you will hear me say this again or you already did. Anyway, I was skeptical because it's Ryan Murphy, but apparently he wasn't a writer or director.
29:50He was just a producer for this. And that's why it's really good because Ryan Murphy is not really involved in any way, but it's really good so far. the lead actors I think are great and my like I said like my expectations were pretty low yeah and I'm glad they went back to the drawing board after the paparazzi photos leaked of Sarah Pidgeon's outfits and her hair and it just looked nothing like Carolyn Bessette they went back to the drawing board and she looks amazing she got the hair down the outfits down um it's really good so far but my point is Mark Wahlberg is mentioned because she works for Calvin Klein at the time And remember his big Calvin Klein campaign.
30:28And this is around the time of his 90s scandal. Assault. Multiple scandals, actually. Multiple racist scandals. And it's something that they discuss on the show, which I thought was interesting. Yeah. Marky Mark. People don't talk about it. But it is. It's actually like frightening and scary that this man is still running around Hollywood. would remember what I did I tell you how I saw him in the lobby of my hotel vent or my wedding venue when we were visiting for like a tasting before my wedding he apparently stays there all the time when he's in Charleston because one of his children goes to school in Charleston and they said that he requested like some crazy amount of ice to take an ice bath and also a priest oh the priest yep so anyway that's my Mark Wahlberg little segue imagine being so wealthy I mean he got paid you know five million dollars for his role um all the money in the world but just having a priest on call hey bring the priest to the room yeah sure why not okay so let's get into Nina's relationships some we already know of others that really shocked me so she did have a uh a relationship with Ian Somerhalder from 2010 to 2013 we all know about that he later went on to marry Nikki Reed who also was a vampire but in the Twilight series yep she also dated Derek Hough which is interesting because she was introduced through her BFF, Julianne Hough.
31:47I almost said Julianne Rancic. Julianne Hough. And they've later co-founded a wine brand called Fresh Vine Wine. It was founded in 2019 and it later IPO'd two years later. I've tried it. It's disgusting. And I feel like I'm a pretty good producer of wine. Yeah. Wait, that's crazy. What do you mean? Julianne Hough and Nina Dober have founded a wine together. Yeah, and it IPO'd. That is so fucking random. big question mark because the line is genuinely disgusting she dated this actor named owen excuse me austin stowell he's hot dude all of her exes are hot except glenn powell oh she dated him in 2017 okay glenn powell is hot i'm sorry i can't i just can't with i know he's objectively handsome i'm not like trying to hate on his appearance i just like i'm so eked out by him that i can't see it but i get why people think he's handsome for sure they had a very short-lived romance they dated in july of 2017 they broke up just a couple months later in the fall of november in November and they were later seen together at Julianne Hough's wedding actually but most notably in St.
32:48Bart's when they were on that same yacht he was dating Michelle Randolph so it seems like there's no bad blood there they're still hanging out even today yeah she was also dating this screenwriter named Grant Mellon hot like every guy she's dated is so up also why does he look like Steven DeMarco in this picture that I posted oh no Steven DeMarco wishes I was dying by So fucking gross. I was dying by the way at your tweet that you posted. Like this is going to be the last episode of a series of Tell Me Lies. Steven DeMarco better be dead in the next 10 minutes or the first 10 minutes. He better be fucking dead.
33:21I actually LOL'd. I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna, I mean, hopefully you guys already watched it. Spoiler alert, he doesn't die. Yeah, unfortunately. Unfortunately. In 2019, she started to date retired American professional snowboarder, skateboarder, and Olympic gold medalist, Sean White. And they had initially crossed paths in 2012, but they really got to know each other after they were both booked as speakers at a Tony Robbins event. Gross. Question mark. Yeah. That says everything. That says it all. Can we do it? To put Tony Robbins, Jay Shetty, and Dr. Amon, the one, that quack of a doctor. And Mel Robbins.
33:57Yeah, it's like the same type of like grifter energy that I just can't get behind. Yeah. They started dating in 2019 and they moved in together at the beginning of the pandemic. and they got engaged like about five years later in October of 2024. But as we mentioned up top, they ended their engagement in September of 2025. And a lot of people were confused. They were like, you guys just got engaged. What just happened? You guys have been happy. You're always traveling to the, you know, Park City. You guys just seem very happy. But there were some sources saying that they just wanted different things.
34:28Nina wanted to get married. She wanted to start a family. But Sean White didn't seem to be on the same page. But another insider who I believe to be on Sean's team insisted that both Sean and Nina wanted marriage and kids that it just was it wasn't one sided. They both wanted marriage. They both wanted children. They were making plans to have a life together. But of course, there was even more rumors that did they perhaps have an open relationship? Was he cheating on her? And we'll get into those rumors really soon. But before they officially confirmed the end of their engagement, there were rumors circulating in September of 2025 that they were broken up.
35:03although neither of them had confirmed it. And Nina added fuel to the rumors when she attended the Eternity premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival without her five-carat engagement ring. And following their breakup announcement, a TikTok posted by Nina a couple of days before, excuse me, a TikTok posted by Nina a couple of days before the breakup announcement came up, it was very cryptic. She mailed along to an audio that said, how do you sleep at night knowing people don't like you with no underwear in case they want to kiss my ass? What's your advice for women trying to fix their man?
35:32listen Bob the Builder he's got 10 other women trying to fix him too and you all look like a damn construction crew so she's clearly shading Sean White dude I totally remember when this happened right yeah and everyone's like oh she's like a scorned woman you know like fuck Sean White and per Dumois they had been on again off again going to couples counseling for a long time and there were there were also allegations that he was cheating on her with another Olympian fellow Olympian Eileen Gu. There's a lot of Eileen Gu lore that I feel like people, there's like a lot about her that I don't really I need to like dig into this, but she is competing for China even though she's American and people are thinking that she was paid off by the Chinese government and she's choosing it's a whole thing that we don't need to get into right now, but I feel like we've gotten a few DMs from people because we were talking about the Olympians, the evil French ice dancers just the other week.
36:26People were so happy you talked about that. And people are like, oh my god, you need to talk about Eileen Gu. There's something very nefarious about her. And I don't know exactly. Like, I need to, like, dig into her more. She confuses me. Yeah, well, it seems like her name is all around. Yeah. In random stories. But she's very talented. She's so pretty. Oh my god. She's so pretty, so talented. She's, like, broken records at the Olympics this year. Like, so. Yeah. And if you're familiar with the lore of Sean White, which I wasn't aware of before I started researching for this, are you aware, Sophie?
36:54No. Of Sean White's? Okay. So he's not the most savory of men, and he's actually had some sexual assault allegations against him from a fellow band member in his former band. So there's a woman named Lena Zawadi, Z-A-W-A-I-D-E-H. She's a drummer in Sean White's band Bad Things. The band no longer exists, but she filed a suit in May of 2016. And as detailed by USA Today, Lena claimed that Sean White, who was a guitarist in the band, he hadn't paid her for her work between late 2013 and mid-2014. team and she amended the suit in august 2016 so just a couple months later after she initially filed claiming that sean had sexually harassed and assaulted her among the allegations lena sent said that sean sent sexually explicit and graphic images which white did admit to via a spokesperson she also alleged that he forced her to wear revealing clothing cut her hair wear red lipstick gross and then to add insult to injury he later referred to the sexual misconduct lawsuit against him as quote unquote gossip during a news conference following him winning a gold medal in the men's half pipe.
37:57And he said later on when people were like, what do you mean? This woman filed a lawsuit against you for sexual assault and harassment. And now you're just referring to this allegation as law gossip, like way to diminish and water down what her her claim and her truth. And he later had to apologize. And he said, I'm truly sorry that I chose the word gossip. He said it on the Today Show. And he said it was a poor choice of words to describe such a sensitive subject in the world today. I'm just truly sorry. I mean, no, he's not sorry. You did it. You said it was gossip years later. Like, no. Right after her and Sean White broke up, she was immediately seen on a yacht with Kelly Teller, Miles Teller, Chase Crawford, Zac Efron.
38:33And there were a couple rumors about her and Zac. But I remember thinking they probably have hooked up maybe once or twice, but they've been friends for a really, really long time. Like you will see photos of them from like 2017. Yeah. I feel like if they wanted to give it a shot, they would have done it already. Yeah. But off the heels of this breaking of their engagement, there were rumors that Sean had been serially cheating on her and that it was just the last straw. There is a comment on Reddit by 4K Trap that read she didn't even care that he has sexual harassment allegations. Her fans who called her out for dating him got blocked.
39:06And people were also really shocked that someone like Sean White could pull someone as hot as Nina Dobrev, as hot and successful as Nina Dobrev. I guess Sean White is also successful, but like Nina Dobrev is like 20 out of 10. um people also point out that their relationship actually was like foundationally like predicated upon her cheating with him with his old girlfriend and people were saying we're not blaming her but once a cheater always a cheater and some people and i'm curious what you think about this some people think that the announcement of her pay disparity while on the set of the vampire diaries was calculated and announced in the press just in time for the breakup announcement to divert attention away from her and sean white's oh i mean that's an interesting theory it wouldn't surprise me.
39:46Yeah, I don't think it surprises me either. Like I think you do try and you know, water down bad press with some good press. So it's not nefarious. It just like makes sense. Yeah, there were even more allegations of him cheating while he and Nina worked together. So Nina had posted an Instagram photo and someone commented on Instagram. Just by the way, I saw your fiance in Austin, Texas last week at a bar. His friend came up and threatened me to put my phone away and not take pictures of him and these two girls he was with. I did not have my phone out or even realized who Sean was at this point.
40:18And people were saying like Sean was with the girls. It was not just friendly. And it kind of adds fuel to those rumors that they either one had an open relationship or two he was actively cheating on her and didn't give a shit. And I do think we've talked about this so many times but how many relationships in Hollywood really like are open? I'm sure a lot more than we even realize. It seems like a lot of them are and it's because their lifestyles are so different. I feel like obviously they're rich, famous, good looking. I mean, Shaun White, that's debatable. The last part. Yeah. But I always get him and Carrot Top mixed up.
40:51Sorry. Wait, that's so fucking funny. It's just the red hair. But like, oh, my God. No, actually. Right. Like, it's just so funny. Oh, my God. No, but like, I feel like because these celebrities often their careers involve traveling around and they're really good looking for the most part. and you know they're always they're never home yeah it i feel like it makes sense more for that kind of lifestyle than it does for obviously the average person maybe that's why it seems like so many celebrities there are allegations of open relationships like who knows but i feel like we always talk about how the one rules always don't embarrass me yep like we can be open but do not embarrass me i think that's what chloe kardashian was trying to do with tristan thompson for so long yeah and before i was like dude this is becoming egregious just like let him go stop please stop trying to like force someone to be with you chloe he doesn't want to be with you that was like a dark dark time yeah it was so in november 13th uh nina posted a tiktok video set to ariana grande's 2014 hit break free and she lip-synced if you want it take it i should have said it before and then try to hide it fake it i can't pretend anymore and as if the lyrics weren't already like pointed enough nina ended the video by scowling at the camera and flipping her middle finger and she was also kind of like showing her ring finger as well showing that there was no ring on it i'm i'm glad that she is she finds you know lip syncing on tiktok to be an outlet for her at the same time it says right here you know she is 36 years old it's like it's like a little embarrassing i think no i agree and i think that she's really made her brand recently you know she's fresh off the breakup so she's allowed to do this i'm not like judging it for judging her for it but she is really leaning into like the single girl i'm this woman who's now free i'm on a y 'all with kelly teller and i'm yeah yeah yeah yeah and the fact that she like we said it's not like she is acting a whole lot if at all um social media seems to be her main source of income probably yes so i guess it makes sense but it's like it just it reads as immature i i completely agree i think it does read immature um it's it's something that like a YouTuber would do or like a 23 year old TikToker would do.
43:08Like I imagine Hallie Kate doing this of her and Reed, God forbid, broke up. Hallie Kate is like 24, 25 years old. 100%. Yes. Hallie Kate would be all over this. So let's talk about that.
47:29It's been rumored for years that Nina is a yacht girl, aka a sex worker, and a lot of it started with a blind item that was published in 2021 by Crazy Days and Nights that reads, this foreign-born former television vampire is back to yachting and going at it full-time. I guess the athlete quote-unquote boyfriend stopped supporting her. What? Were you ever a reader of Crazy Days and Nights? Yes. And I just want to point out, when we say, in this context, sex worker, there is a world where someone can be a yachter and not sleep with anyone. Yes. Sometimes it's just their presence that they are being paid for.
48:02Because, you know, rich old man will just want to be surrounded by young beautiful women so that there is no indication or proof that she sleeps with anyone for money I feel like when we say yacht girl that often means that just their presence obviously some of them do but their presence is what they're being compensated for yeah and I think that it's crazy living in Orange County this actually happens a lot in Newport and I see I think I I see Nina Dobrev and I'm like, she's rich. She's famous. She's been on TV for like two decades at this point. Of course, she's on yachts in St. Barthes and St.
48:39Tropez. I have like former people I knew, acquaintances from high school that are on private jets. They're going to St. Tropez on these yachts. And I'm thinking you're like a nobody. Like you have like 20K on Instagram and you have an OnlyFans. You're hot. You have a good body. You're around like adjacently like famous influencers for like a million. But if you're doing this, people in Hollywood are fucking doing it. Do you know what I mean? And also, this isn't just been happening since Instagram started. This is something that has been happening for a very long time, well before social media.
49:08This is not a surprise. And to your point, I don't think the people I know from high school are sleeping with people for money. I think it really is. We need hot girls on our yacht. We're going to pay you. Maybe one of them is maybe hooking up with someone. But I don't think it's necessarily sex for pay all the time, 100 % of the time. But I think this is definitely happening. I have no doubt about Nina yachting and being around wealthy people. I mean, that's how Miranda Kerr allegedly famously met her husband, Evan Spiegel. She was yachting, being around these really wealthy people. She's interconnected in these circles where she's around billionaires, founders of big tech companies.
49:42And that's how she now got her husband. And that was Miranda Kerr's whole shtick, really. I mean, Emerata wrote about it in her book that she was trying to land a billionaire husband. She did. Yeah, good for her. Good for her. Good for her. And I think Evan Spiegel is hot, too. Evan Spiegel's not the most disgusting billionaire you could find. Like, he's, like, pretty cute. He's a pretty cute guy. I wouldn't call him, like, hot, but he's cute. And I also feel like, I mean, God, the bar is in hell. But compared to, like, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, like, he's kind of just, like, here to, like, make money and, like, build a cool product.
50:15He doesn't seem, like, overtly evil in ways that other billionaires are. Right. But, like, could be wrong, honestly. Don't yell at us, you guys. I don't know enough about Evan Spiegel. I'm sure people are going to be like, he has sweatshops in Bangladesh. I'm like, I don't know. I have no idea. Yeah, I don't know. But yeah, it seems like he just built a successful app. Yeah. Yeah. Relatively speaking with other billionaires. Relatively speaking? Again, could be wrong. Don't yell at us. Please.
50:46Yeah. So we should do an episode on like Patreon about just like tech billionaires. Yeah. That would be really like a Silicon Valley behind the curtain type thing. I think that would be really interesting. A hundred percent. It's really fascinating to think that so many of these successful tech billionaires were literally just college dropouts. Yes. And I'm not saying that in like a, oh my God, like so inspiring. I'm like, it's crazy how evil so many of them turn. Like Mark Zuckerberg. Evil. Elon Musk. Elon Musk never had like, I feel like an average upbringing, but like same thing. Yeah. Yeah.
51:18He's always been a little bit of an oddball, but Mark Zuckerberg's like, I'm like a family guy. I've been with the same girl since college. Well, Mark Zuckerberg was like just a normal college dropout. Like he was like a very average Joe. Elon Musk came from a really fucked up, wealthy, apartheid South African family. Wow. Yeah. I mean, added to the Patreon list, I think this would be a really, really good episode for us to do. But Nina's connection to yawning is that she's basically, or her reputation in the industry, is that she's basically the yacht girl, the highest paid. She's able to get other celebrities into yawning.
51:50and she's kind of become this blind item celebrity and I know a friend of the pod beyond the blinds they've done like many an episode on blind like yachting and Nina Dobrev particularly but if you google Nina Dobrev yacht you will find like all sorts of photos of her on yachts with friends um so I think that the term yachting again I think it's always been here it's just the way that people have referred to it but people were saying yachting has been a thing well before Nina well before the Hadid sisters were even alleged to be Yacht girls as well. Oh, wait. I didn't even know that the Hadid sisters were alleged to be Yacht girls.
52:25Yeah, them, Kendall and Kylie as well. I think all this could be very true. I, yeah, I could see it. It surprises me about like Kendall, Kylie, Hadid. It's because they're so independently wealthy and successful on their own. I mean, obviously, it's because of their family connections, etc. but they have enough money on their own that they don't need to be doing like is it just for the love of the game probably i would imagine it's less about the money and more about publicity and being in the right circles i think it really was kind of like a networking thing i would honestly that's that's probably that sounds true that sounds correct like um remember jeff bezos and lauren sanchez's wedding like all these like it's like why are you going to jeff bezos's wedding But it's like all these people were there in order to probably network.
53:11It's like Jeff Bezos' wedding was like a yachting convention. And not like, I'm not saying it was like an orgy fest. I'm saying that it's like a yachting convention of people to link and network and be friends. Like literally a billionaire fest. Yes. Yeah. Yes. And I think a lot of people, especially the Hadid sisters actually, because they come from like. Crazy wealth. Yeah. It's like not even funny. It's like, it's crazy wealth. Crazy wealth. Yes. Yes. And I think a lot of people get confused. Like, you know, why would someone like, I guess we're not going to use the Hadiths or the Jenners as this, but why would Nina Dobrev need to be a Yacht girl?
53:47She was on the Vampire Diaries that had a longstanding stint on the CW. She's an influencer. And I think that I always think of the Sydney Sweeney effect when she was like, you know, I have trouble paying my bills. Like, I can't pay my attorney fees, my PR fees, my manicurial fees. You know, I'm very frugal. And I think at the end of the day, these things do add up. like you have to consider taxes all these taxes their teams their PR their glam squads their lawyers it will add up quick and I think in order for you that's why Sydney Sweeney lover or hater that bitch is trying to get her bag while she's the hottest girl on the planet like you look at any at like any advertisement Lamcombe uh Kira Sauce Baskin Robbins her weird bath bath salt bath soap thing like I mean it's clear I feel like literally less than a year after she complained about not being able to like afford a mortgage she purchased like a 12 million dollar home in florida let me look up exactly how much her home sydney sweeney florida home i was like shut up 13 13.5 million dollar oceanfront florida mansion and that was like a year after she was like guys like you don't understand i don't make that much money shut up it's really tough she's so fucking annoying i also watched the housemaid finally i was just talking about this with christy and the team off mic uh yesterday whatever day it was and because i wanted to read the book first read the book watch the movie she is so bad at acting it's wild how bad at acting she is have i talked about how my a person i know grew up right next to her have i talked about this on the podcast yes and apparently she is she causes a ruckus with all of her like helicopter landings and stuff yeah she has one of those like hell but not helipads but like yeah those like planes that like skid the lake it's like she'll come in at like five yeah like a bowl in a china shop and everyone's like dude we're sleeping it's like she has she has multiple homes and she's like guys like you don't understand i don't make that much money and i think she she does have a point where it's like i think we overestimate how much celebrities make in general because of how many fees and like security and all of their teams that they have to pay but like sydney sweeney she has like 20 multi-million dollar homes shut up yeah i don't feel badly no we don't feel bad for you yeah but But I do think the point we're trying to make is yes, the fees add up.
55:58And I get why yachting is a lucrative opportunity for people. So if you're confused, like she's on Vampire Diary, she's famous. Well, she also hasn't worked in a really long time. I mean, she has. She has bills to pay. Yeah, she has a wine company. But yeah, like she needs a steady stream of income. And she doesn't. She doesn't seem to act anymore. From what I have gathered. The last I saw her in was my favorite movie. Love Hard with Jimmy O. Young in 2021. Yeah, your favorite movie. I'm telling you guys, it's a fabulous movie. Like I just kick my feet every time I watch it. it's just a feel-good movie yeah i'm looking at her filmography yep she has not really been she's had like a few small roles on random movies the outlaws sick girl the bricklayer random it feels like indie type films like i've never heard of money no money laundering schemes yeah it's like it's not even real production it's like made on like our content camera like content creator cameras like it's just random movies no they're like they don't even exist but no one it's pirated like all the movies are like you have to find it no it's like no one looks into it enough to discover that these movies don't actually exist it's like no yeah sure this was a movie with nina dobrev it's called the reunion and everyone's like okay sure like we don't question like you and i are wanting to find this movie to find it on the streaming service oh my god oh my god that's hilarious so in january of uh in january of 2026 she finally nance's make do you hear this nance is making she's doing an english nance nance is doing a full english breakfast again i'm sorry i'm like doing some things to my house so i'm like in the dining room and my mom as i've mentioned is temporarily living with me she's literally making a full english breakfast so if you guys hear we're almost done she's she is setting the table she's putting she's putting chargers down placemats um the the toasters digging she is frying up blood pudding vacuuming like also speaking of do you hear like also you guys this uh conjecture so last week was chinese new year lunar new year and i was telling sophie she's like oh what are your traditions like before we got on mic to talk about the nancy guthrie case she's like oh you know it's lunar new year happy lunar new year she's where your tradition oh you know i was like you know we didn't really have like crazy taboo things i know that they're giving you all these rules on tiktok but i was like really the only thing that my family abides by during the lunar new year is to not take out the trash because you're basically like sweeping your money away or getting rid of your money you need to like take the trash out the day after or before so if it goes oh god well the cleaner came today she's sweeping swept all of our basically it's like don't sweep because you're sweeping your good fortune out and i was like what so i was like well that goes out the window yeah came today i fucked up i fucked up big time she's like and i was like oh it's okay you're not chinese like it's okay you don't need to abide by like the suspicion she was i want good fortune though what do you mean i want good fortune this is kind of dumb like i should have been shown a note it was like don't take out the trash i was like i just took out the trash before we hit record like i was literally before i was just taking it out my god classic um but yeah so nina clapped back to these yaw girl allegations and she said jealousy is the worst thing ever please move on from these false statements.
59:09Get a hobby. Enjoy your life. So she's just trying to tell everyone, I'm not a yacht girl. Shut up. I, you know, she works hard, whether that be through yawning. So she's very aware of the allegations, but she's like, no, it's not true. Yeah. So we'll just have to take her word at face value. She's trying to dispel the rumors. So, okay. I'm going to end this by just kind of talking about her mean girl reputation. A user on Reddit said, Reddit user strange and off-putting wrote, I'm not surprised that she's labeled as a mean girl. I paid to get her autograph at a convention years ago, and she was the rudest celebrity I've ever met.
59:40She did the Miley, I'm going to keep talking to the person next to me and didn't even acknowledge me. I know you can only tell so much about someone from a two-minute interaction, but it said a lot to me. And another person with a username, Capable underscore Owl, 1266, wrote, she also crosses picket lines. She walked right past the people holding signs of abused horses and injured workers to see the show at medieval times in LA. and she also plays a mean girl i guess on the vampire diaries and someone similar to cassie on euphoria like are you acting or are you just playing yourself yeah and others speculate that the rumors of her being difficult may have also circulated around the time that she was talking about her fight for equal pay perhaps did these rumors come from the studio executives that denied her the equal pay to begin with which makes a lot of sense and would be really awful if these allegations were true or these were true yeah one last thing that i found a little bit funny and i didn't know this was paul wesley and nina butted heads a lot during the filming of the vampire diaries diaries in the first few months of filming but they clarified later that they eventually became very close but nina uh did say that when they were portraying one of the one of tv's most beloved new couples in the show's first season nina and paul did not get along at all during the first five months of filming and she said i respected paul i didn't like paul i remember where everyone would walk up to me after the show aired and they would be like, are you and Paul dating in real life?
1:01:02Because everyone thought that we had such good chemistry. I realize now that there's a fine line between love and hate and we despise each other so much that are read as love. But they worked out their differences and now they're very close. That's so funny. She's like, I basically, I hated him, but like, that's why we had good chemistry. Yeah, which actually it's just passion at the end of it, whether it's hatred or love, admiration. So that's that on Nina Dobrev. Sophie do you have any closing thoughts about our girl I think obviously I think the one last thing I will say is her relationship with Kelly Teller I recall at one episode I was like it just seems really random to me you know it seems like Kelly Teller is kind of always hanging on to the woman of the moment a la Taylor Swift I remember her famous Timothy at the Golden Globes in 2024 it seems like Kelly Teller is always latching herself off herself onto the it girl but people were saying no no no Kelly and her have been friends for a very long time but I just I don't know i i kelly teller just gives me really weird energy and we've talked about her a lot on the show we should do an episode on her but oh my god there's something so off about her it's really yeah i think with nina dobrev i i think she has resigned to the fact that she is social media socialite um part of the hollywood scene without having to really act which is fine like if that's how she makes her money and lives her life like that's she's not hurting anyone no no um but yeah I do think it's it's interesting like this industry I feel like there's so much so many questions that I have about it yeah and have you watched the in America's Next Thought Model documentary yes I'm like oh I think I have one episode left I watched it's really good it's good It's really good.
1:02:44But Ken Mock, who is the showrunner of A &T M, he describes, I can't remember if you've already gone to this part, but I think it's towards the end where he says, back when we were producing this show in 2005 or 2002, when it first aired, he's like, listen, reality TV was almost taboo. We just had the real world survivor, the mole. But he was saying, now everyone can be a celebrity. And I think the way in which we have altered movie stars and celebrity to now just influencers and just through our devices on our phones every single day like Nina seems to just be moving with the times maybe she's like more of an innovator like she's like I'm gonna move away from the traditional format that is movies and tv shows and I'm actually gonna move into digital which means influencing yeah and maybe yachting and maybe we're the stupid ones just judging her when in fact that's just how instead of getting to work and getting on the yacht yeah yeah yeah exactly no but like it's so true I haven't gotten to that part where Ken Mock says that but like it's so true that social and we've talked about this so many times I feel like that social media has totally changed the definition of celebrity it's democratized celebrity anyone can become famous now you don't have to get discovered you can just start posting and become famous and Nina Dobrev obviously was already famous because she was on this very successful hit show but um I think again she decided that maybe it is more lucrative to do this stuff rather than act and that is her prerogative and let's be real i mean we looked at her imdb and besides the vampire diaries neither of us have really heard of anything that she's been in except your favorite movie except love hard you know my favorite movie so i think that at some point maybe she just threw in the towel and was like listen i can't really be employed by traditional media let me move into this and it's working for her clearly so i think i'm kind of looking at it like that i think it's just a really interesting kind of like pivot that she's taken it's almost the shay mitchell kind of thing as well yeah where she was a big tv star on one of the biggest shows on the planet in like the 2010s now she doesn't film she doesn't start really in anything i mean she was in you she's been like a couple of movies but we don't know her as a movie star or a tv star we know her as an influencer a founder right right yeah so and that's that's fine yeah i mean if i could make money doing all this I was like, hell yeah, I would.
1:04:58Yeah. Get to work. Get to work. Get on the yacht. I don't know if I've ever been on a yacht in my life. I've never been on a PJ. I've never been on a yacht. I mean, I live to quote Lisa Barlow. I live a very different life from the rest of you.
