2:22So good, so good, so good. I'm Christy. I'm Sophie. And it's another day. We are back at it again. The Knicks parade was yesterday. It's Friday, June 19th. And Sophie and I are really excited to record this. It's kind of like our first, well, second official recording after we returned from tour about two weeks ago. And we're kind of back into a routine now, back into our regularly scheduled programming. And we thought it would be quite fitting to do the topic at hand, which is Timothy Chalamet. being a New York Knicks fan, seeing as the parade was just yesterday on June 18th. But before we get into that, Sophie, how are you doing?

3:00I am good. I am planning on having the laziest weekend of my life after the chaos that was last weekend. And yeah, we had such an amazing show, two shows in a row. And it was so great meeting so many of you. And now I'm ready to sleep. So I'm going to have the laziest weekend, which I'm very excited about. What about you? No, exactly. The same yesterday, I went into my boss's office and I'm like, I'm at my brink. I'm like, I'm burnt out. Just with normal work and then this. But I didn't tell him, obviously, like, it's because of this too. And well, he knows it's because of the travel and stuff.

3:35And he's like, okay, you can just take tomorrow off. Like, just, I know you're really stressed. Just take it off. And I'm like, we all as a society need to prioritize more rest days where you're not like working out or having all these plans or grabbing drinks or doing it. Like, we just need to be at home, resting. and recuperating. And that's what I'm going to prioritize as well. Yeah. Because we I mean, I I speaking for myself, I haven't had a day off. I jumped right back into my job on Monday. So I am just very excited to just take a day off of working. So I'm excited to rest this weekend. And yeah, I think like, let's get into it.

4:15I'm very excited about our topic today. He is one of my favorite actors and my favorite celebrities. I'm a diehard Timmy stan. I'm not going to be maybe as hard on him as some of you Timmy haters out there would hope I am. I know, Christy, you love him too. I do. He's kind of like, I don't know, him and Kylie. We've talked about this. Not the biggest fan of them. And I feel like she and him, they're just so public nowadays that it's kind of just waning a little bit for me, like the him as an actor. And I feel like he's become Kardashian. But you know, it's fine. He's still talented as ever. And Call Me By Your Name is still one of my favorite movies, as well as Little Women.

4:54I think that is a popular sentiment. I personally love Timmy and Kylie. I think that they are a little bit overexposed, a little oversaturated. And I think that part of that is the Knicks going to the playoffs and then winning. And he was at the parade yesterday on a float. And he just is kind of like everywhere wear right now, it feels like. And that is always something that, you know, you want to avoid as a celebrity, just being too overexposed because people will fatigue of you. And before it was the Knicks, it was the Marty Supreme press tour. And it was his relationship with Kylie Kardashian.

5:28And it just felt like public sentiment regarding Timmy was shifting a little bit. And I think that his relationship with Kylie was a big catalyst for that. I personally, I'm a fan of them. I don't know if they're endgame, but we will get into it during this episode. So let's start out with who is Timmy? In case you don't know who Timmy is, can you imagine someone not knowing who Timothee Chalamet is? He's become such a ubiquitous name, and I feel like with Leonardo DiCaprio, I feel like Timothee often wants to kind of emulate his career, but he is kind of the Leo of our generation. Yeah, and we'll talk about that.

6:07I think that he will ultimately have a more prolific career than Leo DiCaprio when all is said and done. But yeah, he is the Leo. And he has said that Leo is one of his heroes. So Timmy, Timothee Chalamet, 30-year-old It Boy, A-lister, four-time Oscar-nominated actor slash producer, youngest actor ever to be nominated for three lead actor Oscars at just 30 years old. Also the youngest actor to receive both producing and acting nominations for the same movie, Marty Supreme. Youngest actor to have starred in eight Best Picture nominated films. So that is Call Me By Your Name, Lady Bird, Little Women, Dune, Don't Look Up, Dune, colon, part two, A Complete Unknown, Marty Supreme.

6:50Proud to say I've seen all of these movies. Also a huge box office draw. He broke the record for starring in the two highest grossing films within an eight month span, Wonka and Dune 2. This is a record previously held 45 years prior by John Travolta for Saturday Night Fever in Greece. And an honorable mention to one of my favorite movies that's not listed in the Best Picture-nominated films, A Beautiful Boy with Steve Carell. Yeah, yeah, that was a great movie. And he was critically acclaimed. I think he was nominated for some awards for that, just not an Oscar. That is a great movie. But yeah, he is one of one.

7:26So not only is he, you know, just completely decorated, critically acclaimed, extremely talented, objectively just probably the biggest movie star of his generation, but he's also a box office draw. People go out in droves to see what he is in. And I'll even say that Henry, my husband, who is not a cinephile, who doesn't really care about Hollywood or pop culture or movie stars, he loves Timmy. He brings people together. The girlies, the gays, the straight men. We all love Timmy. So let's talk about his background a bit. Timothy Howell Chalamet was born December 27th, 1995. He's 30 and Capricorn.

8:06We love a Capricorn. His parents are Nicole Flender. She is a third. By the way, I follow her on Instagram. She's so cute. She's just like a cute mom. Like she just posts like a normal person. It's really adorable. Oh, how cute. And she's like proud, obviously like proud of him. Like she's just so cute. So she's a third generation Jewish New Yorker of Russian and Austrian Jewish descent. She is a real estate agent and former Broadway dancer. And Marc Chalamet, a French-Canadian, he was like born in Canada and then moved to France. So I'm categorizing him as French-Canadian journalist originally from Nîmes, France.

8:42I don't know if I'm pronouncing that right. Timmy is obviously bilingual in English and French and holds dual citizenships. He spent summers in Le Chambon a small French. Oh, damn. That was good, Sophie. Oh, thank you. I'm actually very proud of my, I took French for seven years. Really, I'm very impressed by the pronunciation. Not at all fluent. Sorry, Sophie. I can't understand. What? I'm listening. What? I'm listening to you, but I'm also looking at Nicole Flanders' Instagram. Isn't she so cute? No joke. It's so cute, first of all. So wholesome. At Nicole, F-L-E-N-D-E-R. Every picture I opened, liked by so frost brooks like literally every so cute i love her and she has like 10 000 how many followers does she have she has 46k okay 46k everyone go follow nicole flunder let's make her an influencer she's so cute no so no it's genuinely so wholesome and she's taking like solo shots like on like the stairwell and her and chris jenner the concept of them being um the fuck.

9:45Like in-laws, makatonim is what we call them in Yiddish. I love me some Kris Jenner, though. Like genuinely love her. She's dark. It depends on the day for me. Yeah. I think that Kris, her and Kris are mutuals on Instagram. So it's like they're embracing the role of being in-laws already. But yeah, so he grew up summering in France at the home of his paternal grandparents. He has an older sister who's 34, Pauline Chalamet. She's also an actress. Did you ever watch Sex lives of college girls my cousin was in it oh that's right that's right yeah shout out to your cousin i love that show r.i.p yeah gone too soon gone too soon that was an amazing show uh pauline was also she had a small role in devil wears prada too so she was she was actually my favorite character of the four girls i thought she was she was so funny funny like yeah i my favorite line was hi it's kimberly your roommate from gilbert arizona yeah she was like the awkward she was like very awkward and hilarious.

10:44Like, she was great. So yeah, both talented in their own right. And they grew up in Hell's Kitchen, and he and his family lived in a federally subsidized building reserved for artists under the Mitchell-Lama program. By all accounts, his family was not super wealthy or privileged. I think that he has described them as very middle class. I think it's kind of like a misconception about him that he grew up wealthy because he grew up in Manhattan and dated Madonna's daughter in high school. So understandably, people associate him with kind of being this like she-she privileged guy, but by all accounts, they were not.

11:15They were very regular middle class. He even went to public school, PS87, William T. Sherman School for elementary school, MS245, the computer school for middle school, later transferred to MS54, Booker T. Washington Middle School, which he described as miserable due to the lack of a creative outlet. The school was very academically rigorous, so he didn't get very good grades. And it seems like he was always, he never really like cared about school that much he cared about being creative and acting and Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker in the Dark Knight in 2008 inspired him to pursue a career in acting and we did an episode on Heath Ledger over on Patreon and low-key Heath Ledger inspired so many of our actors today that we know and love Jacob Elordi I know is one of them There are definitely more besides Jacob and Timmy that were inspired to go into acting because of Heath Ledger.

12:09And Heath Ledger, I always forget, and I was recalled by it when you walked us through the episode on Patreon, patreon.com slash snarkbaitpod, how young he was when he passed and how much of a footprint that he left on his craft. It's really incredible if you think about it. Just a quick conjecture. Yeah, no. I mean, the fact that he— 28. Yeah, he was 28. The fact that he posthumously won the Oscar for playing the Joker and then also was in one of the most iconic rom-coms of all time, 10 Things I Hate About You, one of the best movies of all time, Brokeback Mountain. He had such a prolific career in his 28 short years and left such an imprint on the industry.

12:52And just his performance as the Joker is so iconic and was so just important to so many of these actors. Something about it just really resonated with young kids at the time to inspire them to go into acting, you know? I know there are more that were inspired. I know that for sure Jacob Elordi, who was also Australian, obviously, and then Timmy, obviously. He applied to LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and Performing Arts, and his sophomore year drama teacher was so impressed by his audition that he insisted on Timmy's acceptance into the school, even though he had been rejected due to his middle school academic record.

13:30The teacher said, I gave him the highest score I've ever given a kid auditioning. So always, always brimming with talent, clearly. Like I said, he dated Madonna's daughter and fellow student Lourdes Leon during his time there. After high school, then 17-year-old Timmy attended Columbia for a year, majoring in, why can't I talk, majoring in cultural anthropology and later transferred to the NYU Gallatin School of Individualized Study to pursue his acting career more freely. He said it was difficult to assimilate to Columbia after filming Interstellar. So he knew he needed kind of like a more flexible schedule while he was acting.

14:08He eventually did drop out of NYU, though, to focus on his acting career and avoid student debt. And his time at NYU is repeatedly brought up in reference to him being a prolific spreader of chlamydia during this time, allegedly. Obviously, these are just rumors, but they are very prolific rumors. Everyone has heard about this rumor. Like, this is kind of like the best kept secret in Manhattan, I feel like. Yeah, it's pretty well known that he was, you know, popular with the ladies. I mean, look at him. I mean, look at him. My mom and I were talking about this, and I was saying, you know, when we think about a young Leonardo DiCaprio, a la Titanic, like, he is the blueprint of the best looking man, like, universally.

14:49Everyone was obsessed with him. I actually would go so far as to say people are going to like hate me for saying this. I actually think Timothee Chalamet is better looking than even Leo at his prime. I think I would agree with that. I think also like something that they both kind of have going for them is this androgynous, or at least Leo when he was younger was kind of androgynous. And I think that that is what makes them stand out. They're not your typical like uber masculine. Like Jacob Lordy. Like he is so masculine. And like tall and big. And Leo, young Leo and Timmy are both kind of androgynous and just beautiful.

15:24Like you look at them and you're like, that's a beautiful man. Right. So let's talk about his career. So he acted in a few commercials and short films before making his television debut on an episode of Law & Order in 2009. He had a minor role in a Hallmark movie called Loving Leah in 2009. He made a stage debut in an off-Broadway play called The Talles in 2011 and had recurring roles in the drama series Royal Pains and Homeland in 2012. Did you watch Homeland? I didn't. Did you? I watched like the first season. He played like I think the vice president's like son or something. He was like some he was a kid.

16:02And for Homeland, he was nominated for a SAG award for Best Ensemble along with the rest of the cast. He made his feature film debut in 2014 in the movie Men, Women, and Children. And I watched this years ago and it was weird. I like really don't remember anything about it, but it was weird as fuck. And then in 2014, also in 2014, he played Matthew McConaughey's son in Interstellar. Did you ever see Interstellar? I started it literally recently and was like, and I was like, wait a minute, is that Timothee Chalamet? Like it took me a second. And it's interesting because you have here, he had this assumption that his career would take off because he was a side of Matthew McConaughey.

16:38And then it just like didn't. And I remember being like, wait, I didn't even know he was in this. Wait, did you, you watched it though? You finished it? I think I like fell asleep. Yeah. Christy famously falls asleep during good movies and loves bad movies. But Interstellar is a Christopher Nolan movie that is, you know, iconic. People, I mean, I'm personally not a huge fan. I don't love like the whole sci-fi time bending genre. I get really confused by it. Like I found it kind of confusing. I'm not going to lie. Okay. Yeah. No. But Timmy said that Interstellar, this was just a few years ago, I think in 2024, he said that Interstellar was his favorite film that he had ever been in.

17:16Like he loves that movie. But he shared that again, like you said at the time, he was disappointed because it didn't boost his career as he had assumed it would. and when Interstellar premiered, he actually posted a picture of Heath Ledger as the Joker in 2014. So people are like, was this his Joker origin story where he is like, I'm going to show, I'm going to prove everyone wrong. I'm going to become the biggest movie star. I know you guys don't give a fuck that I was in this movie. No one cares about my career yet, but I'm going to prove you all wrong. Like, was that his Joker origin story?

17:48I don't know. Also in 2014, he had a supporting role in Worst Friends, a comedy. In 2015, he was in a few movies that I honestly hadn't heard of. One and Two, a fantasy thriller. He played a teenage version of James Franco's character in The Adderall Diaries. He played Charlie Cooper, the grandson of Diane Keaton and John Goodman in Love the Coopers. This got really negative reviews. I always pride myself on having seen so many Timothee Chalamet movies. I haven't seen any of these, so I'm a bad fan, I guess. In 2016, he starred as Jim Quinn in the autobiographical play Prodigal Son at the Manhattan Theater Club, and his performance was praised.

18:29It won him the Lucille Lordle Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Play, plus the Drama League Award for Distinguished Performance. uh he starred oh i actually did watch this movie miss stevens i don't remember anything about it but he starred opposite lily rob and he played a troubled student and his performance was praise he was compared to james dean and james dean is actually a comparison that he gets a lot i don't i'm not familiar enough with james dean's body of work all i know is all i know about is his gruesome death if i'm being honest i don't know what what happened i don't wait you don't know about James Dean's death?

19:07No. And you call yourself a pop culture true crime fan. Wait, enlighten me. It was a really, really, really bad car accident. And he was really young. And he was like the hottest young boy at the time. He was very young. But yeah, I haven't watched enough old movies with James Dean to be familiar with his style of acting. But I guess it's the brooding, charming good-looking thing i don't know if i had to guess speaking of celebrities and true crime yesterday on patreon we did an episode on three stories about celebrities involved in murder and mysterious disappearances true crime true crime adjacent celebrities stories yeah pretty graphic so tld yeah yeah trigger warning trigger warning yeah uh so 2017 was his breakthrough as we know now.

20:02He started in Luca Guadagninos. Am I pronouncing that right? Guadagninos, call me by your name as Elio Perlman. Like you said, love this movie. It is just such a fucking good movie. So Elio Perlman falls in love with Oliver, played by Armie Hammer, a university student who comes to stay with his family. To prep for the role, he learned Italian and learned to play piano and guitar. And something The thing that I have picked up on since doing this research on Timmy is that he is like extremely committed to learning instruments, learning languages, learning to sing. Just he when he has a character that he is going to embody, he really goes all out.

20:45But he does not call himself a method actor, which I appreciate about him. He doesn't want to be associated with the Jared Letos of the world. Yeah. He's not a method actor. He just he's committed. I feel like dangerous men who claim to be method actors are just their excuses to be like violent. To be abusive and scary. Yeah. Like Jared Leto. Yeah. Right. I absolutely agree. So he obviously received critical acclaim for Call Me By Your Name. So well-deserved, obviously. His performance was seen as an absolute standout. ARMY got praised too, but not the same levels to me. Well, and also that was kind of ARMY's, I mean, he'd been in The Zeitgeist for years at that point, but that was also kind of Armie Hammer's big movie as well.

21:25And it's funny because that movie blew up. Timmy blew up. Armie kind of like rested in the shadows a bit. Yeah, because Armie had been in a bunch of box office flops for years and years and years. And he, everyone kept wondering, when is Armie Hammer going to actually like break out and turn into a movie star? Why does he keep being in all of these flops? Like, you know, like what's going to happen with Armie? His career was really on the cusp. And then Call Me By Your Name happened. An incredible movie that catapulted them both to a different level. but then obviously Armie Hammer's time was short-lived because that was right before his cannibalism scandal, which we also covered on our Patreon at one point.

21:59Ollie Richards of Empire wrote that, in a film in which every performance is terrific, Chalamet makes the rest look like they're acting. He alone would make the film worth watching. Yes, 100%. Yes, yes. The Hollywood Reporter stated that no performance during the year felt as emotionally, physically, and intellectually alive. he was so decorated. He got a lot of accolades for this role, including the Gotham Independent Film Award for Breakthrough Performer, Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead, nominated for Critics' Choice Award, Golden Globe Award, SAG Award, BAFTA Award, Academy Award for Best Actor.

22:35This was his first Oscar nomination. Third youngest person to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor, as well as the youngest since Mickey Rooney in Babes in Arms in 1939. And I attached a screenshot here of the last shot of him, the lingering shot of him staring at the fireplace crying. This was so, as the credits rolled, it was so powerful. And like Serfton Stevens in the background. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, to see without my eyes. Yeah. What was the monologue that his dad in the movie? Oh my gosh. His dad was like, I know everything and I want you to feel comfortable in your own.

23:13I, that was so, I loved that monologue so much yeah um uh my core as you're looking i'm trying yeah i'm trying to find it my core memory of this movie is living in sf there's like the san francisco symphony and you could watch movies um and the soundtrack will be played live by the san francisco symphony in like the pit and so me and like five of my best girlfriends ramona singer we went and saw it and it was just I remember just like hysterically sobbing in that symphony hall. Like, and then to have like real violinists and everything, like producing the music in real time in accordance with the film was like so beautiful.

23:56It was a core memory for me, honestly. Yeah, I remember I saw that movie in theaters right after I got my heart broken. It was like my first real heartbreak. And I was sobbing, sobbing. I don't know why I'm having. Oh, okay. Okay. Something I found, I found a part of it. You had a beautiful friend, and this is Elio Perlin's dad talking to him after Armie Hammer leaves, and he's putting the pieces together that obviously Armie Hammer, Oliver, and Elio had a romantic fling. You had a beautiful friendship, maybe more than a friendship, and I envy you. In my place, most parents would hope the whole thing goes away or pray that their sons land on their feet soon enough.

24:35But I'm not such a parent. In your place, if there is pain, nurse it. And if there is a flame, don't snuff it out. Don't be brutal with it. Withdrawal can be a terrible thing when it keeps us awake at night. And watching others forget us sooner than we'd want to be forgotten is no better. We rip out so much of ourselves. We cure things faster than we should that we go bankrupt by the age of 30 and have less to offer each time we start with someone new. But to feel nothing so as not to feel anything, what a waste. No, I know. It's so beautiful. And I was so heartbroken at the time, but I was like, you know what?

25:05It's so good to feel, you know, because if you don't feel anything, then what's the point? Don't numb yourself. You have to go through those emotions. I don't know. It's my favorite monologue in every movie ever. Yeah. Also, fun fact, the Jewish star that he wears as Elio Perlman is his own Jewish star, and he wore it for Marty Supreme, too. Love that. Fun fact. So also in 2017, he starred in the movie Hot Summer Nights. I low-key love this movie, you guys. And if you haven't seen it, it's on Netflix now. Have you seen it? No, but I like Micah Monroe. Oh, my God. You'll love it. You'll love this movie.

25:40It didn't get, like, rave reviews. I think it got, like, very middling mixed reviews. But I loved it. I thought it was really fun. He plays a gawky teenager who gets swept up in a drug dealing business during a summer in like Cape Cod or Martha's Vineyard or something. I forget. So good. Starring opposite Micah Monroe. Like I said, it's on Netflix. Also in 2017, played a supporting role in Lady Bird opposite of Saoirse Ronan. And he plays her love interest. And I think I saw Lady Bird before I saw Call Me By Your Name, if I'm remembering correctly. and for me actually and i was like who is that guy he's so fucking hot yeah no he was uh her love interest and i love that they also started in little women together like two years later and they just have a really cute friendship it kind of reminds me of um well i was gonna say him and zendaya kind of shared that as well they i think she like helped him move into his apartment in new york city for the first time and like i like how he has like these really serious like real friendships with his co-stars seemingly yeah it seems like it um he also in 2017 played a young Soldier and Hostiles alongside Christian Bale.

26:47Never seen this one. Don't think I've ever heard of it. So there are some flops in his catalog. Like he's been in so many hits, but then also lots of flops too that we forgot about. In 2018, he officially joined the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Also in 2018, starred in the aforementioned Beautiful Boy as a teenager addicted to meth and has a strained relationship with his father, played by Steve Carell. And for this, he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Golden Globes, the Actor Awards, formerly known as the SAG Awards, and the BAFTA. So he got recognized for this incredible role as he should have been.

27:25Honestly, like if you guys have seen, I think of like the Basketball Diaries with Leonardo DiCaprio or Requiem for a Dream, I feel like a beautiful boy. Well, first of all, it's set in like such a beautiful setting. It's like in Moring County, which is north of San Francisco across the Golden Gate Bridge, Steve Carell and Timmy Chalamet, like they love each other so much. But every day, Timothy is breaking Steve Carell's heart. And like his performance is sensational in that movie. Like I was bawling my eyes out too. Because it's like, it's a familial ties and the disappointment and like, oh my god, it's it's such a fucking good one of my favorites, actually, like not even his, just in general, one of my favorite movies.

28:03Did I tell you that when I got arrested in high school for drinking. We talked about this in the Patreon. I had to, like, as part of my punishment, I had to go to, like, a class, and we had to watch The Basketball Diaries. So every time I think about The Basketball Diaries, that's what I think of. But I would have never watched it otherwise, and it is a great movie also. In 2019, he starred in Woody Allen's romantic comedy A Rainy Day in New York opposite Selena Gomez, and this is when rumors abounded that he and Selena hooked up at this point. And this was very controversial for everyone involved because this was 2019.

28:42And 2017 was the Me Too movement, which prompted a resurgence of the 1992 sexual abuse allegations against Woody Allen. So what's interesting here, which I didn't realize until I was doing research for this episode, Timmy claimed during the press tour that he was unable to answer questions about working with Woody Allen due to his contractual obligations, but the Huffington Post obtained a copy of his contract, which disputed this. Awkward. He ended up donating his salary to the charity's Time's Up LGBT Center of New York and RAINN and ultimately did not promote the film. Woody Allen, this is also interesting, Woody Allen claimed in his 2020 memoir, Appropriest of Nothing, that Timmy told Allen's sister, Letty Aronson, that he only denounced Woody Allen in an attempt to improve his chances of winning an Oscar for Call Me By Your Name.

29:38I 100 % believe that. Woody Allen's name is so tarnished. And you know what's so disappointing about that? One of my favorite movies with Owen Wilson, Midnight in Paris. It is a great movie, unfortunately. With Rachel McAdams, but she's like briefly in it. Oh my I thought I fucking love that movie. And it's directed by Woody Allen, which is a huge legend. I saw this movie, A Rainy Day in New York. It's not good. But what's, I did not. But what's interesting about that claim and Woody Allen's book is that Timothy wasn't denouncing him because he was like, you sexually assaulted people. He denounced him solely because he wanted his Oscar campaign to be squeaky clean, you know?

30:18So that's a really bad look for Timothy, if that is true. obviously i you know take it with a grain of salt it's woody allen he's not a good guy but uh very very very interesting claim there also in 2019 he portrayed henry the fifth wait is the v this is so stupid oh my god yes yes yes i'm so oh my god everyone's gonna be like what a fucking idiot okay add it to the list we already add it to the list i know i am you guys i know i've never once claimed to be smart find you are time that i claim to be smart i don't claim to be i ever One time on the Patreon, I was like, no, you're a bright girl.

30:54Bright? No one's ever described me as bright, let's be honest. No, you are. Did I tell you also, this is like so not related and stupid, but I found my like diary from when I was in second grade when I was home at my parents' house a couple of months ago. And I had written about like all of my friends at the time. And one of them is still like one of my best friends. And she's really short. She's small. She actually is the artist that designed our Snarkbait logo, by the way. Oh, that's Sarah. Yeah. And I wrote in my diary, she's short but bright. Like, what was I saying? At second grade, dude, that just shows your intelligence.

31:32I'm sorry. She's short but bright. Like, despite her height constraints. She's a smart girl. She's bright. She's bright. Okay, so anyway, Henry V, aka Henry V, Timmy played in The King on Netflix. Did you ever see this? No. Great movie. Great movie. And also, like, I'm not a huge, like, war in, like, yeah, Middle Ages, Renaissance. Like, I don't care about that stuff. Loved this movie. It was so good. Robert Pattinson, I believe, was in it, too, and had, like, a really weird accent. but great movie. This is kind of when I remember Henry, my Henry, started to stan him. No pun intended. Yeah, my Henry punched in his stan card after watching The King.

32:21And also in 2019, obviously, Little Women, a classic. He plays Laurie. This is a second collab with Tricia Ronan and Greta Gerwig after Lady Bird. And performance was acclaimed by critics. He obviously had a very famous monologue in that. Yeah, where he's professing his love. I've loved you for so long. Is it Saoirse Ronan? I'm not sure. I thought it was Saoirse. Saoirse. Saoirse. How do you pronounce it, Irish? Irish baby Starks? Let us know. I've tried my best here, okay? I'm not bright, as we know, okay? No, I would never even correct you, but because we're on mic, I'm going to hear it. So I just want to get ahead of it.

33:03You know what I mean? Oh, yeah. Everyone's going to yell at us either way. So I thought that so Danielle's boyfriend on In the City. I thought it was Ian, but it's Owen. That's how the Irish spell it. I've worked with many an O and E-O-I-N. Yeah, I thought it was Ian. OK, well, let us know about Saoirse. I thought it was Saoirse. OK, just I know you guys will let us know. Yeah, you will let us know. But yeah, that was an incredible, incredible performance on Timmy's part as Laurie professing his love for Joe. In 2020, he hosted SNL for the first time. In 2021, he starred in Wes Anderson's The French Dispatch.

33:43Anderson said he wrote the role with Timmy in mind. And this is kind of like a theme that so many directors and writers are like, this role was only written for Timothee Chalamet. He is like everyone's muse. Like, this comes up again and again and again. Including for Dune even, A Complete Unknown, Wonka. All of those directors mentioned that they only wanted Timmy. So I need to talk about something that changed my life. And it's my Tushy Bidet. And trust me, it'll change your life too. Switching from dry toilet paper to a bidet is a tiny, tiny habit that will make a huge difference in your daily routine.

34:23Instead of wiping endlessly with dry toilet paper, Tushy pristinely removes 99 % of bacteria while protecting your natural skin barrier thanks to one natural ingredient, fresh water. I once heard someone liken it to washing your hands without water after using the bathroom, and that's the best way I can really describe it. And the proof is really in the numbers. 99 % of people who wash with tushy warm water bidets feel cleaner and fresher after going to the bathroom. Over 50 % of people soothe their hemorrhoids and 90 % reduce itching and discomfort. All you have to do is sit, cleanse, and dry using the built-in air dryer.

34:55Cleaning yourself after the bathroom is now hands-free. And what's not to love about a heated seat, adjustable water temperature, and a powerful yet gentle dryer? Installation is simple and takes about 10 minutes. Seriously, if I can do it, you definitely can. And here's the best and most accessible part. Every Tushy bidet easily attaches to your existing toilet without the need for additional plumbing. E-bidets only require an outlet. Stop guessing you're clean. Start feeling it. For a limited time, our listeners get 10 % off their first bidet order when you use code SNARK at checkout. That's 10 % off your first bidet order at hellotushy.com with promo code SNARK.

37:14My absolute favorite is their 100 % organic cotton percale sheets duvet cover. The material is so crisp and comfy and even has a cooling effect, which is obviously perfect for those hot summer nights. I also love the look of it. It's matte, smooth, and just has this classic look that instantly elevates our bedroom. And I love knowing that we're sleeping on 100 % cotton and not some cheap polyester blend. Ugh. You can literally feel the difference. I also love their Mulberry Silk pillowcases and eye masks. They help keep your hair smooth and skin hydrated overnight because they don't absorb your natural oils like other materials do.

Villeneuve, like I said, stated that Chalamet was his only choice to play the role. I needed that for the audience to believe this young man will be able to lead a whole planet. And let's be real. Timothee Chalamet, like, yes, he could tell me whatever he wants. I would listen to whatever he says. I watched this clip somewhere on the internet of Timothee Chalamet speaking in tongues or, like, in that language that wasn't really a language.

39:06And how he said, like, how, like, amped and, like, juiced up he was after he filmed that scene. because he's like to speak so like with such fervor and conviction in front of a bunch of people for this movie and basically speak a language that is not a real language it's like so difficult and he's like i fucking nailed it and i watch it and i'm like yeah he's speaking nothing but like you whatever you're saying you're like you believe that tranced in it yeah did you ever see dune of course i didn't chris chrisy doesn't see good movies yeah um i actually like I like Dune. I am not. I feel like it's kind of like, speaking of Henry, it's kind of like a straight guy type of movie.

39:47Is that bad? Oh my God, everyone's going to yell at me. No, my best friend, ML, was like, oh, I watched it. It's really good. She's like, don't even bother. You're not going to like it. No, I think it's because I'm not super into sci-fi, like I said. It kind of is like a Star Wars type of universe. It's based on this really, really, really classic book. And it's just, it's not my type. Like, I felt like I didn't really fully understand what was happening, but I did enjoy the sandworms. I wouldn't know anything that's going on. The sandworms, the spice. I don't know. I just, I felt kind of confused watching it, just like I did with Interstellar.

40:23As soon as you bring in like, you know, other dimensions, I'm like, I don't know what's going on anymore. I, my brain can't process that. All I can handle is the dimension that we're in right now on planet Earth. That's all I can handle. The second you start bringing in other dimensions. No, I tune out. I lose focus. I know. I'm out. I'm out. But the sandworms. Anytime there's like a CGI like creature, I'm back in. I'm like a five-year-old. No, me too. I totally get that. It's like my brain can't compute non-real things. Yeah. Like I'm just like, no, I don't. I don't. I don't get it. I don't get it.

40:58But obviously, these movies were huge hits. Dune earned over$400 million worldwide, emerged as one of the year's highest grossest films. Louis Knight of The Daily Mirror wrote that Timothee Chalamet completes his ascension to Hollywood leading man status. And Timmy later expressed slight criticism of his performance in the film, stating, I felt kind of thrown by the futurism. I was coming off of Beautiful Boy and Call Me By Your Name in movies that were a lot more naturalistic. And this was a huge movie, so I felt intimidated. Yeah, like I said, not exactly my type of movie. I did enjoy it. But again, I was kind of confused.

41:37Okay, so 2021, small role in the ensemble comedy Don't Look Up. I didn't like this movie. Oh my God. It was like one of those like Valentine's Day where like every single person was in it. Yeah. Jennifer Lawrence. It didn't have good reviews. J. Law was in it. Yeah, Leo. It just, it wasn't good. And his role was like very small anyway. In 2022, he reunited with Luca Guadagnino for Bones and All opposite Taylor Russell as a cannibal drifter. Did you see this? No. Scary. It's like a horror movie, honestly. But fun fact, this was filmed in Cincinnati. I love that. My hometown. So love that. In 2023, he hosted SNL for a second time.

42:21Also in 2023, he starred as Willy Wonka. in Wonka. And he was director Paul King's only choice for the role after seeing his high school performances on YouTube of him singing and dancing. And yes, these YouTube videos exist. And he, yeah, he always had some dance moves. He always was a triple threat, in my opinion. People love to say online, they're like, Timmy's digital footprint, like he hates to see it coming. I know. It's so funny. I loved this movie. I didn't see it until like really recently, honestly. and I thought it was really good. Like, I thought he was really, like, I know that when the trailer came out, people were like, oh, come on.

43:01Like, he seems like too, you know, it just didn't seem like a good fit for him in the trailer, at least. But then once I saw the movie, I was like, oh, yeah, he perfectly embodies this role. I don't, I've never saw this movie, but I did see that Johnny Depp one, like, back in, like, 2012 or whenever that was made. Ew, that one was so bad. I think it was, like, 2005. Yeah, really bad. It was so bad. Yeah. So I think I'm like scarred by that experience. Yeah. I'm not seeing this. No, that's understandable. I think I felt the same way and that's why it took me so long to see it. But the original, nothing appears to the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

43:33Such a classic. I watched that recently. Violet Beaubau-Gard. Violet, you're turning violet. Daddy. Me and my sister always are like, daddy. I want it now. Daddy. I want it now. Veruca Salt. Veruca Salt, yeah. Yeah. He got a Golden Globe nomination. for this one for lead actor. And this movie grossed over$634 million. And he has said about the movie, I would say the riskiest thing I ever made was Wonka. I felt it was an untraditional career step where I had done serious movies already. I feel like that movie didn't get its fair shake, even though it was financially successful. It felt like there were codes of coolness.

44:12I honestly thought it was kind of punk rock to do something that wasn't so cool, but I don't think people really took it that way. So he is basically saying it was embarrassing that I did this movie, but like, but he's apparently they're doing another one. So he's, he signed up for another one and he got, you know, Golden Globe nom for it. And it was a box office success, obviously. Um, it was kind of like, I feel like it was like a kid's movie, obviously. Like it just, it may be like he hadn't done the kind of like a silly kids movie where he's like dancing and singing around. He was more so doing the serious stuff like Dune and Beautiful Boy and, you know, So Dune Part 2 came out in 2024.

44:49This obviously was also a box office smash,$714 million. And two box office smashes in a row officially cemented him as an actual major movie star, according to Variety. I could have told you that. I could have said he was a movie star back in 2017, as far as I'm concerned. I completely agree. And I was going to say that a lot of the times, the art of even the term movie star feels a bit antiquated. Like we don't, we've talked about this before. We don't have the Brad Pitt or the Angelina Jolie's or those types of figures anymore. We have so many digital creators and streaming services and these like TV actors.

45:26But when it comes to a full-fledged movie star, we are lacking that. But I feel like Timothy's kind of like embodies that still for us. And I think that's why everything that he does, people are so drawn to because it's like you are a true movie star. So whatever you do, we trust it to be pretty good. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. Like, I feel like we have such a more limited selection of true movie stars in our day and age as opposed to in the 90s, early 2000s even. Because there weren't so many options back then. Like, everyone, if there were, you know, a couple movies out, you only had so many to choose from.

46:01Now it's like we have thousands of millions of things to choose from on all of our streaming services at all times. So it's like we're just, and it's the same thing, I think, with pop stars. It feels like we've really, plus with social media, like we have democratized the idea of a celebrity. Yes. And Timothy is like our truest movie star in today's age, I think. Yeah, and I think he spans so many different demographics. Like everyone knows who he is. And I think that's also what distinguishes a movie star versus just like a celebrity. Yeah, exactly. Like I said, like girls, gays, straight guys, all love him.

46:39Yes. And after Dune Part 2, he signed a first look deal with Warner Brothers. And what this means is that Warner Brothers gets a right of first refusal for any projects he produces slash stars in, I believe. So he has to pitch it to Warner Brothers first. And 2024, a complete unknown. Have you, did you see this? I didn't. You call yourself a Timmy stan. I know. I've only seen like, honestly, Call Me By Your Name. Beautiful Boy. Beautiful Boy. Yeah, I remember. Beautiful boy! But is he a model? But does he have his hates? Also, some of my friends kept saying, why do you and Sophie keep, like, at our shows, why do you guys keep saying that?

47:18I'm like, clearly you're not a baby snark. You're not a baby snark if you don't know the beautiful, beautiful girl lore. I was like, please, okay? Just enough. What was I talking about? That you've only seen two of his movies. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. My sister and her best friend, Emily, they love Bob Dylan. They love, like, they like the old music, like. Oh, Audrey would. like simon and garfunkel they like like yeah like jamming out their banjos and i came home and they were like they were locked the fuck in so i watched maybe the last like 30 minutes of it but i that's it i saw it with my in-laws when it came out and you know what's funny is that uh my mom was like i remember i was at the movie theater with my in-laws seeing this and then my mom was like were you seeing a complete unknown and i was like how do you know she was like i saw you're at a movie theater and I knew you'd be seeing Timmy.

48:05She knows me. She knows me. So a complete unknown, he portrays Bob Dylan. And he was approached for the role shortly after Call Me By Your Name because of his physical resemblance to Bob Dylan. Like I said, he was, directors and writers were like, yes. He was always everyone's muse. And by the way, I feel like we didn't really touch on this as much when we talked about Call Me By Your Name, how kind of groundbreaking it was. Like we've talked about Brokeback Mountain obviously being groundbreaking in terms of, you know, portraying a gay relationship in a major motion picture between two straight actors.

48:44And the fact that Timmy did this so early in his career, I think was really, it was a big risk and he was rewarded for it. But I think that it was really, it was groundbreaking. Even for 2017, it was. And I feel like we didn't really touch on that enough. So just want to call that out. Well, I also remember because I wasn't as familiar with who he was when in 2017, when that movie came out, kind of being confused on his sexuality, too. I remember Googling on my phone, like, is Timothee Chalamet gay? Is he not? Like, I just remember thinking he was. Because he played it so believably. Yeah. And like, I don't want to make, you know, just because you're a good actor means and you play it well means you're gay, obviously.

49:25But I just remember being like, he's so, I don't know, he's so believable. Yeah. And also, in hindsight, people think that Call Me By Your Name is controversial now because I think Elia was supposed to be 17. So he was underage, which I did not realize when I saw that movie. But I think in hindsight, some people think that it's an inappropriate movie, which I like to pretend is not the case. Like, let's just pretend he was 18. I remember thinking that the entire time because Armie Hammer does look so much older than Timothy in that movie. And thinking, this seems almost creepy. I don't remember really thinking that when watching it.

49:59Yeah. But Timmy kind of struggles with that. He looks so young. I mean, he was very much in his 20s when he filmed this. I think he was 21, I want to say. He's 30 now, so it's 2017. So that was nine years ago. So yeah, he was 21. He was 20, 21. Well, in any case, he's always looked really young. Okay, so back to A Complete Unknown. To stay immersed in the role, Timmy was aloof on set. but he's not a method actor but he was kind of aloof and was referred to as bob dylan on the call sheet it's funny trigger warning ryan bailey does a really funny impression of timmy playing bob dylan where he's like hey i can't do it there could be nine ninety people in the room they all want me to be someone else and it's weird because he has this and apparently this is how bob dylan spoke or speaks but he's like supposed to be from minnesota i'm like why does he have a southern accent it's like austin butler being from anaheim california yeah i was gonna say like bob dylan What are you trying to prove here?

50:55What are you trying to prove? Like, what is it with these, like, Bob Dylan, Austin Butler, like, picking up Southern accents? I don't really know. You guys, when Sophie was, like, channeling that accent, you kind of, like, looked up, like, through your shoulder. You came in, like, through your jaw kind of like this. I had to, like, Danny Booko. Four under four. Four under four. Four under four. They all want me to be someone else. That's what he says. But, no, trigger warning, Ryan Bailey does it so much better, obviously. Yeah. He sang 40 Bob Dylan songs for the soundtrack and also played guitar and harmonica.

51:28And like I said, I'm struck by how committed he is to learning languages, learning instruments for roles. Like, he is so, he is just a master at his craft. I'm sorry. I'm sorry if this whole episode is me just being obsessed with Timmy. Like, he is so talented. BBC Culture's Karen James wrote that Timmy is brilliant here and completely believable, better than the film itself. He sings and plays guitar in a harmonica with apparent ease and creates a thoroughly convincing avatar of Dylan. And I agree here that like I didn't like maybe I didn't like love the movie because I'm not like I was never like a Bob Dylan.

52:00Like he was before my time. So my in-laws, on the other hand, loved it. Trigger warning Ryan Bailey loved it. That's me calling trigger warning Ryan Bailey old. No, I'm just kidding. But I wasn't super familiar with Bob Dylan's body of work. But I just, he's so captivating to watch that he just, I enjoyed it just to watch him. And that, again, is what makes him such a movie star because he can save any movie and bring it to the next level. He received Oscar nomination, BAFTA nomination, Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor. He became the youngest person to win the Actor Award, formerly SAG Award.

52:39I hate that they changed the SAG to Actor. The Actor Award. Like, shut up. you know it's like why why the rebrand why now why the rebrand why now why this her best actor at age 29 and this is when he gave his famous speech do you remember the speech when he acknowledged that the classiest thing would be to downplay the effort the truth is i'm really in the pursuit of greatness he cited you know famous athletes like michael jordan michael phelps and then also legends like Daniel Day-Lewis, Marlon Brando, Viola Davis, I think. So he was like, you know, I'm not going to be humble. Like you guys all pretend to be humble, but I want to be the greatest to ever do it.

53:20And I think that this is what gets him in trouble sometimes. And there's technically nothing wrong with it. He's competent. He's good at what he does. He's a little bit cocky. But if you look at any athlete on the planet, like he has like an athlete's mindset. they have to be cocky in order to be the greatest. You know, like they're not going to be humble or chill about what they do. They're cocky. Well, and do you know what it takes to, for you to execute, you also need to believe. The power of your brain and your mindset is so fucking powerful. So if you not only say it to yourself, but you are like, you make a proclamation on a very public stage that you will not be humble and you are committed to your craft and you are committed to being the greatest, you almost have to keep yourself accountable.

54:03So it's all, I don't know, like I kind of respect that mentality. I respect it too. But he, I think it rubs some people the wrong way. Some people find him arrogant. But I agree with you. I think that he is speaking it into existence. And I think that when you really think about how he sees himself as kind of an athlete, he's like, I need to channel that arrogance, that cockiness that athletes operate with. And that's how they win. You can't be chill and humble and be the greatest, you know? Yeah. And I think there was a lot of conversation, too, when he made this proclamation that what if a woman had made that?

54:39And it's true. Like, a woman would not be able to get away with that. That's the other. It's like women are not allowed to be arrogant and copy the way that men are. And that's the reality of our society, unfortunately. Yeah. I was going to say, like, imagine if Jennifer Lawrence had made that. No. People were pissed when she would stumble on the red carpets. Imagine if she said, I'm determined to be the greatest of whoever was. I mean, that's basically what Anne Hathaway did during her Oscar speech for Les Mis, where she said, it came true. Like, my dream came true. Like, she was, she wasn't even cocky.

55:10She was just saying, you know, I have dreamed of this. I've worked hard for this. It came true. And people were like, how dare you? Yeah. And then she and then she disappeared for a couple of years because everyone hated her just for that speech. Yeah. To deny that if a woman were to say that she wouldn't be ostracized from the community. Like you're not it's you're not based in reality. Like, yeah, for sure. It would be different. It's absolutely true. Unfortunately, he also received a Grammy Award for A Complete Unknown, which I don't think I realized. So he is, you know, he has the G for EGOT down.

55:46He just needs to get the other three. Sorry, I'm just, I'm like looking down. I was like, are you going to acknowledge what I said? Sorry, sorry, sorry. I was just looking at all these like really graphic photos on Twitter and stuff. I love it. Okay, so 2025, he hosted SNL for the third time. And this time he performed as its musical guest as Bob Dylan, basically. He became the first non-professional singer to fill the role in 30 years. He is really a jack of all trades. In 2025, he starred in and produced Marty Supreme, directed by Josh Zapti. I'm going to assume you didn't see Marty Supreme.

56:21No. Okay. So I actually did not love this movie. A lot of people didn't. Like it got, like I loved Uncut Gems. So it was kind of like the same like fast paced, fast cuts as Uncut Gems where it's like your blood pressure. is really you're like oh my god what's gonna happen like you're constantly like on the edge of your seat a little bit but i i don't know something about a complete unknown or marty supreme i mean i did not connect with as much as uncut gems and i don't know why i think maybe because it was like super super super overhyped like it was hyped up a lot and i just felt like it didn't live up to the hype for whatever reason i mean he was great in it i think that he absolutely you know deserved all of the acclaim that he got but i just i don't know it didn't live up to the hype for me so josh safty once again wrote this role specifically for him you guessed it like imagine like like who else can say that who else can say oh yeah this role was actually written specifically for me i was gonna say the only one i can think of at the top of my head is stupid fucking sam levinson bro bro for zendaya oh really i didn't even know that um no like that's He can demand any amount of money he wants at this point in his career, like any amount of money he wants.

57:38So he actually took ping pong lessons for the role. Again, he's committed. He got a ton of critical acclaim, like I said, compared to Al Pacino. He was nominated for Best Actor and Best Picture. He was a producer. So like I said at the top, he was the youngest male actor to be nominated in the lead category thrice since Marlon Brando in 1954 and the youngest person ever to be nominated twice for acting and producing in the same year. He earned his ninth Actor Award nom, formerly SAG Award, and sixth BAFTA nomination while also becoming the youngest person ever to win Critics' Choice Award for Best Actor and Golden Globe Award for Best Actor, Musical, or Comedy.

58:17And what was really interesting about his Marty Supreme run is that he was everywhere. Like, his press tour was, like, so fun, so funny. Like, I remember he did that fake Zoom call where he was meeting with, you know, the marketing team at A24 or whatever. And I thought it was serious at first. And then as I kept watching it, I was like, wait, this is obviously a joke. And he was just everywhere and everyone loved it. And he was supposed to be a lock for the Oscar. But there were a couple things that I think kind of destroyed his campaign. And one of them was accusations against Josh Safdie. And these accusations involved Josh Safdie allegedly allowing a minor to be sexually assaulted on the set of one of his movies.

59:03And this was apparently in 2017 on set of the film Good Time. And reports detailed that a 17-year-old actress was cast in a scene that involved nudity and an unscripted sexual proposition by a co-star happened with criticism aimed at Safdie for allegedly letting the cameras roll instead of cutting the scene. And it's rumored that this incident also was what led him to have a falling out with his brother, who used to be his collaborator, the other Safdie brother, whatever his name is. I forgot his name. Ben Safdie, maybe. So even though Timmy obviously wasn't directly involved in this incident and kind of deflated the Oscar buzz for the movie as a whole.

59:45And it seemed like the fact that this came out when it did, and I'm not trying to be conspiratorial, but it seems like it kind of was a, not like a hit against Marty Supreme, but I think the timing was intentional. I think that someone from one of the other movies, I don't know. I'm not trying to, you guys know I'm like the least conspiratorial person, but it seems like the timing was very convenient for Marty Supreme to be completely, you know, taken out of the running for any of the Oscars. Even though they were nominated for nine, They ended up taking home zero. And also during the press tour, he made those very controversial comments about ballet that sparked a lot of backlash.

1:00:27Oh, yeah. God. Even though I think this was kind of overblown, his public image was kind of on the downswing during this time. Again, I think that his being a little overexposed, his relationship with Kylie Jenner, his cockiness, his arrogance, people were like, OK, like, please. He basically said to refresh it for you guys. I don't want to be working in ballet or opera or things where it's like, hey, keep this thing alive, even though like no one cares about this anymore. All respect to all the ballet and opera people out there. Basically saying no one cares about ballet and opera anymore, which obviously isn't true.

1:01:02But I think it's objectively true that those two industries are on the downswing. Yeah, I mean, like, I don't know why people made this such a big deal. I'm like, I hate when people make it more than it is. It's like, I think we all understood what he was saying, but you were latching yourselves on to something to, like, cancel him or be upset with him. Again, I'm not trying to disrespect anyone in the ballet and opera community. I'm just saying I completely understood what he was saying. And this was like, you were trying to get people were trying to get their pitchforks and pitchforks and knives out for literally no reason.

1:01:32Like, he's not being racist. He's not being he's just. It was. Yeah. And I he thought he was being funny. And I get why people. Yeah, and like the New York City Ballet and all of these, you know, ballet and opera companies kind of jumped on it to have like a viral moment, which was funny. Like it was, I just didn't think it was that serious. But I understand why people were like, oh my God, he's so fucking annoying and cocky. Like, I think he got a little too comfortable and became a little too unfiltered when he really should be a little more buttoned up, honestly. Yeah. I mean, he's the A-list, A-list, A-list.

1:02:07Yeah. Yeah. I think it's more just like think before you speak, but also it's serious. Everyone relax. Yeah. So that was another reason why I think his Oscar campaign for Marty Supreme was doomed. And Michael B. Jordan ended up winning for Sinners, which also was a great movie. Michael B. Jordan was amazing in it. But people still hotly debate that to this day, that Timothy should have won over Michael B. Jordan. I don't know. I thought both were amazing performances. I think that Timmy has to, you know, this is his destiny. He has to have the Leonardo DiCaprio trajectory of losing the Oscar so many times that he does an insane fucking role like Leo did for The Revenant.

1:02:48And that's just, you know, the price he has to pay. I also think that he did make a deal with the devil for the next win, the NBA championship. No, honestly, I do not doubt that whatsoever. I'm being so for real. Like, he made a deal with the devil. He's like, no, I won't win the Oscar for Marty's agreement if the Knicks win the NBA championship. Yeah. He got his it came true, as Anne Hathaway would say. It came true. So 2026 Dune Part 3 is coming out. He's also set to star in a motocross heist film called High Side. He's reportedly earning$25 million for it. So every time I think of motocross, I think of that Disney Channel original movie.

1:03:29What was that called again? I know. It was called Motocross. Oh, yeah. And it was like that girl that pretended to be a boy so she could like race or something like that. Classic. Yeah, like really interesting stuff. Classic. Love it. It's finally summer, which means all of us, hopefully most of us, are going to be spending a lot more time outside touching grass. It's the number one OBGYN-recommended brand of emergency contraception, and it won't impact your future fertility. That's Freedom the B. Use as directed. So let's talk about his, like, public image. So like we said, he's kind of seen as the greatest movie star of his generation, a modern Leo DiCaprio, who, in my opinion, might even end up having a more prolific career than Leo. And this is interesting, actually. So he once said that a hero of his told him in order to have a successful career, he needs to stay away from A, superhero movies, and B, hard drugs.

1:07:45This is widely believed to be about Leo. And while he has stayed away from superhero movies, I highly, highly doubt that he's stayed away from hard drugs. That's just my opinion. Oh, yeah, completely. He's definitely doing a little bit of blow here and there. Maybe some MVMA. The fact that Leonardo DiCaprio allegedly gave that advice makes me wonder if Leo, like, is Leo staying away from hard drugs? Because I also find that hard to believe, especially we did our episode on his little pussy posse. No, wait, that's such a good point. Sophie, he was rolling around in the 90s and early 2000s in New York City, LA, Miami, wreaking fucking havoc, getting into literal physical fights.

1:08:22Yeah. And no one talks about it. Yeah. And people aren't, men aren't getting into physical fights unless they're juiced up by alcohol and, like, cocaine. Okay? Honestly, yeah. Like, I would be shocked. What do you guys think? Do you think Leo and Timmy have stayed away from hard drugs or is this just lip service? Wait, yeah, that's a good point. I don't feel right. Let us know. Let us know. But it is good advice, I would say. Yeah. Like, stay away from superhero movies at the very least. Those are the deaths now. Whenever I think of superhero movies, I think of Chris Pratt. Ugh. Ew, yeah. And like Henry Cavill.

1:08:51Like, what happened to Henry Cavill? Like, no one cares about him anymore. He's gross. He's gross. I saw a picture of him circulating on Twitter the other day, and everyone's like, ew, he aged like milk. And I'm sorry, we're allowed to say that. We're allowed to say that. I'm not body shaming. I'm just saying that, like, men usually have it so easy. 100%. And the fact that Henry Cavill has aged like milk, I'm sorry, we're allowed to say that. Right. Okay, so he obviously is widely seen as a sex symbol, Timmy, not Henry Cavill, for his androgynous looks and also a fashion icon for his risky fashion looks.

1:09:26He has been named by GQ as best dressed man in the world multiple times. He also, in 2024, he attended a Timothee Chalamet look-like contest in Washington Square Park, which was hilarious. And he also was the face of Chanel's men's fragrance, Bleu de Chanel. From 2023 to 2026. And now Jacob Elordi is. Okay, so he has lots of very parasocial fans and fan accounts online. Club Chalamet is definitely the most parasocial slash well-known. Yeah. So Club Chalamet, she actually has her own Wikipedia page, by the way. Which is crazy. And the fact that she's like a middle-aged woman. Like, it's just, it's so hilarious.

1:10:04She is a 59-year-old woman named Simone Cromer. And she has gained micro-celeb status in her own right for her dedication to Timmy. and obsessive posts about him. And he has never publicly acknowledged her, but she has so many photos of them together. It's like Stalker Sarah. Wait, who's Stalker Sarah? No, who's that? She's this girl who would literally have a picture with every single celebrity on the planet. Oh, was she the one that stalked like the One Direction guys? Probably. She has a photograph of every single person. Yeah. So Simone is dedicated. She is dedicated to Timmy. And I think that, like, yes, it's weird.

1:10:45Like, the fact that she is so much older than him, she's like, how old is she? She's like almost 60 years old. He's 30. So, like, she's like 30 years his senior. I think that people think that the age difference thing is creepy and weird. At the same time, it's like, yeah, like, there are a lot of weird parasocial fans, you know? It's just the fact that she is an older woman that I think people are a little, I don't know, not to defend her because she is very parasocial and strange, but I think people are a little ageist against her. Well, also, if you think about it, imagine that the role were reversed and it was a 60-year-old man having club Addison Rae.

1:11:22Oh, my God. Do you know what I mean? Club Addison Rae. I don't even know why I thought. That would be kind of scary. You're right. You're right. You know, it's weird. Like, it's definitely weird. But she was very unhappy when Timmy started dating Kylie. She was very much in denial as much as I was, honestly. No, everyone was. And she, this is when she kind of went viral in 2023. At the time, she had 5 ,000 followers on Twitter. In a 52-minute Twitter Spaces session, she suggested that Chalamet was blackmailed into a relationship with Jenner. The session became prominent for a comment by Cromer about the couple not being seen visiting Olive Garden, despite Chalamet liking Italian cuisine.

1:12:02So she was like, why would they not be at Olive Garden together? He likes Italian food. And also, I don't know if you remember this one photo. I distinctly remember where I was when my friend Emily sent this picture to me. She goes, oh, did you see that like Jumar, like people or someone posted Timothee Chalamet's like huge car leaving her property. And she's like, why is this looking like a siding from Bigfoot? Like this is so not real. I remember thinking it was so not real. I was like, this is so Kris Jenner, like, just trading it. I thought it was such a Kris Jenner production because they were rumored to be together for so long until there was officially a sighting of them.

1:12:39But despite the negative attention, Cromer, Club Shalomite, denies having an unhealthy infatuation with him, viewing him as a nephew and an artist. That's so scary, honestly. But she has more or less seemed to have dropped Timmy in recent months. And now she is a Connor Story stan account now. She's kind of rebranded. You know what it's kind of giving? Like a little bit unknown number, unknown caller. Oh, my God. Not that she's like assaulting anyone, but it's just like, why are you a 60-year-old woman so obsessed with these little kids? Well, she sees him as a nephew, okay? but now she loves connor's story um and yeah speaking of kylie let's talk about his relationships so he like i said dated lordis leon in high school he then dated lily rose depp from 2018 to 2020 they met on the set of the king and everyone thought this was the type of girl he should end up with she is like artsy thin opposite of kylie jenner basically not that kylie jenner isn't thin but kylie jenner has a bbl you know it's like everyone thought he was going to be like an artsy girl like lily rose depp yeah um he apparently had dinner with eve jobs before his breakup with lily was public that's steve jobs daughter um he was famously photographed appearing to have sex in a cabo hot tub in june 2020 with aiza gonzalez the actress um very graphic photos and famously inspired this tweet from gracie grace or gracie that says okay so basically timothy i trusted you to at least keep control of yourself but like really fucking a girl in cabo during a pandemic and a blm movement and a crisis in yemen girl bye so famous tweet um relax no i know but these but these pictures of him like literally they were fucking in a hot tub oh a hundred percent um isaac gonzalez also dated who else did she date um I don't know.

1:14:39Beautiful girl. Is it Gonzales' boyfriend? Yeah, I have no idea. Oh, she's older than him, too. She's 36? Yeah, she is older. Jason Momoa. Oh, did she? Ben Simmons. Interesting. That's random. Anyway, he was also referred to— Liam Hemsworth, sorry. Oh, so she has dated quite a few. Calvin Harris, yeah. Leading men. Just you, Hamill. Wow, that's a lot. Timmy was also rumored to have dated Taylor Russell in 2022. That was his Bones and All co-star. I loved her and Harry together. Yeah, I was going to say Taylor Russell also dated Harry Styles. Yeah. And since 2023, his most publicized relationship, obviously, he's been with Kylie Jenner.

1:15:21And like I said, I refused to believe this at first. I was like, no way. Like, this is Kris Jenner's wet dream. Like, there is no chance. This is too good to be true for Kris Jenner. You know, like, you know that she was so fucking happy when this happened. I think a lot of his fans had trouble coping, including myself a little bit, that he would date a Kardashian with a BBL instead of like a French girl with a bob and a tote bag. Everyone's like, oh, my God, no one forced you to get a bob and a tote bag. OK, like, no, not the bob and the tote bag. That's like so that's so. Yes. Even though girls with BBLs, historically his type, according to sex workers on TikTok, who have claimed that he slid into their DMs or vice versa, they slid into his DMs and they, you know, went back and forth and met up.

1:16:13And there were several sex workers that have come out and said that and they have, you know, big boobs, BBL. So I think that we all have this idea of what Timmy's type should be, which is French girl with a bob in a tote bag. clean girl aesthetic clean girl but like he actually really likes the the bbl body no no no no i know i remember shannon's lonely forward friend of the pod she did a whole episode on this and she's like everyone's like why is timothy with kylie she's like i'm sorry she's exactly his type to his yeah she is unfortunately she is for not unfortunately unfortunately for those of us that want him with some yeah no timmy is like everyone thinks just because he's like skinny in French and, you know, a serious actor that he should be with some serious person.

1:17:01And Kylie Jenner is not, you know, the most serious person, but he seems to be in love. So we should be happy for him. And I think that like being the biggest movie star, and I've said this before, the fact that he's the biggest movie star on the planet, it's like, who else could he be with? You know, it's like Kylie understands what it's like to be the most famous person in any room. Like they can relate. I feel like it like as much as we love to see a celebrity with a normie like Matt Damon and his wife and that works so often oftentimes it doesn't because it's like how could they understand what it's like to be so famous that you can't even like walk outside.

1:17:37I mean we talked about this and I can't remember it was one of the episodes you recently walked us through but or Dark Energy Tuesday where when you are so famous and so wealthy and so recognizable how can you have normal relationships with people who don't understand and how the spotlight is constantly on you. That's got to be exhausting for the other person. So it actually does make a lot of sense. But I was completely in denial as well for like the first whatever, however many months. And then I remember the first time they were, I remember ever publicly seeing them together was at the Beyonce concert.

1:18:07Oh, yeah. And they were like kissing. Yeah. Everyone was like, wait, this is, wait, this is real. This is real. Yeah. Yeah. It's very much real. And I feel like he's kind of introduced Kylie to this A-list world, like the Oscars, et cetera, that she really wasn't in before. And yeah, she was like at the Met Gala and she was always extremely famous and at these events, but like she wasn't sitting at the Golden Globes with like Martin Scorsese before. And now it's so funny seeing Kylie Jenner in these spaces with like Elle Fanning and, you know. With her BBL and like. Yeah, with her BBL. And he, remember when he was like getting up to accept his award and he had to use her butt as like to help him get up.

1:18:43Of course. He famously thanked her in his acceptance speech for the Critics' Choice Award for Marty Supreme, calling her his partner of three years. That's when Club Chalamet threw in the towel, by the way. They were like, all right, we're done. Yeah, we're done. We're done. Famously brought her to many Knicks games. He's been a Knicks fan for a long time. That's his other relationship is with the Knicks. And if you see here, Exhibit A, he is getting a jersey signed by Amari Sotomayor. I don't know if I'm pronouncing Amari Stoudemire right. Amari Stoudemire, ex-Nix player. And he closed the loop recently by taking a photo with him as an adult.

1:19:23But here he is at 14 getting his jersey signed. And then there's another one with Landry Fields. And Landry Fields, I guess he tweeted, we'll be in the city tonight. The first person to find us and answer our trivia questions wins two tickets. This is in 2010. Ha ha, the contest is over. Tim Chalamet is the winner. He found us at Grand Central. congrats Tim see you Friday at the game and there's hilarious there's Timmy going like this with Landry Fields another Knicks player oh also did you do we can we share our story about who we sat next to on our flight oh Carmelo Anthony yeah he was literally one seat behind um like two seats behind us and also like we wouldn't have he was really tall obviously but it's like I don't I don't follow sports let alone like basketball or NBA sure so I would not have recognized him it was only because husband of the pod and boyfriend of the pod, Olivia's boyfriend, Dan, were there to be like, wow, that's Carmelo Anthony.

1:20:20And we were like, oh my God, celeb sighting, even though we would not have recognized it. No, absolutely not. But then we waited because, you know, we were like first off the plane and he was behind us. And I was like, oh my God. We splurged. You guys, we splurged on first class. Sorry. Yeah. And I was like, oh, I definitely would have just like been like that guy is someone because he's someone like like like obviously he's super so tall and he just like had a swag about him i don't know he looked expensive and this was the saturday of the knicks game five and we were flying to chicago for our chicago show and dan olivia's boyfriend spoke to him and i guess like 20 minutes literally he was flying to chicago for a meeting and was flying right back for the next game so that's what you do when you're famous no like he had like a backpack Yeah.

1:21:09Also, I was like Carmelo Anthony, Lala Anthony's ex-husband. Yeah. That's my reference. I'm like, Lala Anthony. Because Henry texts me because he was, you know, wasn't in our seats. And he goes, Christy, a celebrity's two seats behind you. Do you know who that is? I was like, Lala Anthony's ex-wife. Lala Anthony's ex-husband. Yep. Yep. Anyway, you guys, that is the lore on timothy chaffa may i feel like just overall he has a pretty straightforward life born and raised new yorker chlamydia allegations oscar nominations the end i'm honestly like obsessed with these photos of him with the knicks when he was so cute and now he's like with the team he flew back with the team yes after the game the final game in san antonio he flew on their private plane he was on the Knicks float or whatever during the parade, he is like living his dream.

1:22:05And that's what happens when you work hard and you're good at your craft. Because I really think that not only is he like we we always think of acting as like this glamorous. Obviously, it is glamorous in a lot of ways to be a movie star on red carpets. Right. But like he actually, like I said, there is so much hard work that goes into perfecting his craft in between like learning Italian, and learning the tongues from the Dune movies, learning harmonica to play Bob Dylan, learning guitar for Call Me By Your Name. Like, he really, like, commits. And I think that's what makes him one of the greatest to ever do it.

1:22:39Yeah, I was going to say, if I could think of, like, one adjective to describe him, he's focused. Yeah. And I think another thing is, as I'm just, like, kind of replaying A Beautiful Boy, just the way that he embodied that character, like, a young man that was addicted that was going through it with his family, It's just like how we just see actors and it looks so easy. But like when you think about it, to be able to like feel those feelings and then bring them out in front of so many people behind cameras and crew like that is so fucking hard. Absolutely. I could never like just put tears in your eyes at a drop of a hat.

1:23:12It's crazy. It is crazy. And even like I get so embarrassed just like when we were like filming a TikTok. We did like a transition TikTok before our live show. I'm like I get so embarrassed just doing that. Like, I can't imagine, like, acting in front of people. Like, that is, like, hard. Like, I would just be so embarrassed. Yeah, no. Every time we try it, I'm like, wait a minute, I'm giving myself the ick. I literally gave it. And I was like, I'm done. I'm done. So I was like, cut. Everyone, this is the last one we were doing. This is the last one. Yeah, and Christy's friend Sarah, God bless her soul, was like, no, like, we need to get the shot.

1:23:47And I'm like, no, I'm done. Sophie's like, we're done. Let's go. Like, diva. No, I'm just kidding. She totally did. I know. No, because I, like, I hate it. So like moral of the story is being able to get in front of people and play pretend. It's not easy to do. But yeah, so that is the episode. We hope you guys enjoyed. Thank you for being here. We love you so much. As usual, we have bonus episodes on Wednesday over on Patreon. And like Christy said, our episode yesterday was the intersection of celebrities with true crime stories. and then our newsletter goes out every Friday with links to things we're loving, things that are making us laugh, things that are annoying us.

1:24:30And what else? It feels weird not promoting our live shows now that we're done with our live shows. But I think that's it. Instagram's all in our show notes and we post funny carousels on just funny shit. So follow us there. And we'll see you guys on Tuesday for another episode of DET. Talk to you next week. Bye.

1:25:00With the weather lately, I feel like I'm always out and about doing things. Errands, workouts, beach days, you name it. And when summer hits, I am always reminded that I need clothes that can actually keep up with all of that. And that's why I joined Fabletics as a VIP. It completely changed how I shop for a new season. New VIPs unlock major savings on their first purchase, so stocking up on cute, comfortable pieces doesn't feel like some major splurge. When I signed up as a new VIP with Fabletics, I got 70-80 % off of everything. It made it so easy to grab multiple matching sets, shorts, tanks, and lounge pieces for the summer without overthinking it.

1:25:35And the quality is genuinely so good. Fabletics pieces feel like ultra-luxe activewear you'd expect from some of those higher-end brands, you know the ones, but without the hefty price tag. These pieces are built to actually last, and I love that for me. My genuine absolute favorite piece I've gotten is the Anywhere Cropped Bra Tank. It's a perfect workout top that I can throw on for a workout, just to record, run errands, go out to lunch. And genuinely, my boobs look really good. They suck in and perk up just the way I like it. And I just genuinely love how easy it is to get dressed with Fabletics and how put together I look without having to actually think about it.

1:26:11Shop now at fabletics.com slash snark to get 70 to 80 % off everything when you sign up as a new VIP. Take a really quick style quiz and be sure to select snark when prompted to unlock this offer. This is a limited time offer, so don't wait. Again, that's fabletics.com slash snark for 70 to 80 % off everything as a new VIP. If there's one refresh worth making this summer, it's your bedding. Trust me. Summer nights always leave me wanting bedding that feels lighter, more breathable, etc., etc. And Quince has been my go-to for so long now. They focus on high-quality materials like European linen and bamboo without the luxury markup.

1:26:45My absolute favorite is their 100 % organic cotton percale sheets duvet cover. You can literally feel the difference. I also love their Mulberry Silk Pillowcases and Eye Masks. They help keep your hair smooth and skin hydrated overnight because they don't absorb your natural oils like other materials do.

1:27:20This bedding is made for literal beauty sleep, you guys. Quince has everything you need to upgrade your bedding for summer. Lightweight sheets, airy linen shams, seasonal colors and timeless patterns like stripes and soft neutrals. And in case you need a reminder, everything at Quince is 50 to 80 % less than similar brands because they work directly with ethical factories and cut out the middleman. So you're paying for quality, not a name brand markup. Elevate your summer bedding. Go to Quince.com slash snarkbait for free shipping on your order and 365 day returns. Now available in Canada too.

1:27:51That's Q-U-I-N-C-E dot com slash snarkbait for free shipping and 365 day returns. Quince.com slash snarkbait. It's finally summer, which means all of us, hopefully most of us, are going to be spending a lot more time outside touching grass. And when was the last time you upgraded your outdoor furniture situation? Wayfair is your one-stop shop for outdoor seating, grills, appliances, patio lighting, storage, rugs, decor, you name it. Everything you need to make your outdoor area the best seat in the house. We only have an itty-bitty balcony in New York City, but thanks to Wayfair, we made the most of our tiny space with a perfect little bistro set and twinkle lights.

1:28:29I'm so excited it's finally warm enough to use it again. My favorite thing to do during the warm weather months is have coffee and breakfast out there with Baxter on sunny mornings. It's my favorite start to the day and it wouldn't be possible without my Wayfair furniture. I also really appreciate that Wayfair has installation and assembly services because outdoor furniture can be heavy and intimidating to assemble. It makes the experience truly seamless and stress-free. But my favorite part about Wayfair, you don't have to take out a freaking loan or remortgage your house just to make your space as gorgeous as possible.

1:28:58Especially if you, like me, are not in your forever home yet and you don't want to splurge on major investment pieces. I love how affordable everything at Wayfair is. Patio season is here and these deals won't last. Head to Wayfair.com right now to get your outdoor space ready for way less. That's W-A-Y-F-A-I-R dot com. Wayfair, every style, every home. I've been a diehard TaskRabbit stan long before they were a sponsor. I cannot remember the last time I moved without enlisting a tasker, whether it was for assembling furniture, mounting a TV, hanging artwork or shelves. The list goes on. And it's not just during a move where your to-do list can feel like it's 10 pages long.

1:29:37Sometimes I really just need an extra hand for those little things I feel like I never end up getting around to myself, like hanging the collage wall I promised myself I'd do for months. Wherever you are, TaskRabbit is here to help. TaskRabbit connects you with skilled taskers in your area for moving, furniture assembly, home repairs, yard work, mounting, you name it. You can search for a tasker based on cost, skill set, availability, and past client reviews, so you know exactly who's showing up and can have confidence so they know what they're doing. Taskers have assembled over 3.4 million pieces of furniture, completed 700 ,000 home repairs, handled 1.5 million moves, and counting.
