In short

Pop culture and internet life—Justin Bieber’s Coachella set (and why it divided opinion), AI/Mounjaro as “future” consumption shortcuts, plus debates about online commenting, queer fame, and “vox pop” laziness; also includes a Budapest political update and listener agony aunt questions.

Guest backgrounds

No named guests. The episode is hosted by Sue and Lou (and includes a “Bill Milner” live report from Budapest and a “culture correspondent” segment).

Key claims

Bieber’s Coachella was “half-ass karaoke” but also a genius, intimacy-focused, stream-first performance that catered to at-home viewers; nostalgia was only a small part of the set. Online fame invites hostile/pointless commenting. Vox pops are often invasive and lazy brand content. Kate King’s “free sweets” controversy is framed as internet nitpicking.

Notable examples

Kate King allegedly gifted vs purchased sweets; Coachella reactions (PinkPantheress praised, Slater “chapel moment”); Budapest: Fidesz ousted, Orban removed; listener questions on inviting a new situationship to a birthday and overcoming attraction to straight men.

0:28This episode is brought to you by Google Chrome. Storm has zero sugar and 200 milligrams of caffeine So you can turn that workout up a notch Good energy in, good energy out Energy for life So I was listening to One Less Lonely Girl by Justin Bieber today, this morning And even though it's greyed out, from there up From Complicated by Avril Lavigne up Was the song radio after And I'm pretty sure in every single one of these songs I noticed there was an excellent pre-chorus and I think that's the secret to real pop success I love a pre-chorus is a really great pre-chorus the best one in my opinion was complicated and unwritten complicated somebody else and everyone else standing yeah that's maybe the best pre-chorus yeah up the dirty window and another room and a skydiving reaching for something in the distance so close you can almost taste it release your inhibition

1:40listen up donald trump let's get one thing one thing straight you better let more huzz in this country or i'm gonna petrol bomb mns you fucking prick all right what's hers um the strait of whore muz the the canal in uh iran that's been blocked um let more huzz because he has got too many mingers in this country

2:28what i'm not doing what's going on okay how you doing hello how are you hello hello hello you're all potted out aren't you i'm all potted out was on a pod that wasn't ours this morning i've been flicking the bean too hard yeah flicking the bean too hard and i just want my life to get a little bit too much self-analysis yeah hey but that's that's the game we're in we've been doing loads of work but not publicly and it's really horrible you're talking about get recognition and be told well done you're talking about the thing yeah the thing isn't being seen i just feel like all this year i've just been like talking that something's coming but i'm like i'm actually so bored of waiting so yeah but we've got a new we've got a day it's all gonna be fine good things come your hair looks great thanks straight and dick we're both we're both wearing football shirts one nil on the chicks fucking hell um we've got time to go time to yeah should we call it there yeah yeah yeah the other day we posted the kate king video which blew up and then the fucking know-it-alls we thought it'd be really funny to read out the kate king comments of just all these bastard know-it-alls well yeah so for those of for those listeners who aren't on tiktok um sue delivered one of uh the better clips of recent times i would say all the maybe one of the best clips in straight eva history i would say the way it's set up is really great i didn't even really i was saying i didn't even realize how uh how great it was when it was coming out your fucking mouth although i did laugh my head off um but we'll we'll run it back oh i don't think we can okay um it's the bit where you say that the thing that brought Kate King back wasn't a Costa collab or a sponsorship.

4:13It was a bag of sweets. It was a bag of sweets that she loves. And in the video, you say that she got gifted. I thought she did. Right. Which one would assume with a successful internet personality. Yeah. And the top comments on this video, which has done really well, back in the big leagues, folks, floppy or over, 16.1k likes, was it wasn't a free bag of sweets. She bought them. Like okay Inspector Gadget Like suck my tears The sweets weren't an ad Which is why she was able To speak so honestly About the Apple rings Not being as sour As she expected 1700 likes 1700 likes Like okay Yeah Like fine Yeah yeah yeah Okay It just gets better All the partnerships Will be heading her way I fear She's going to be overwhelmed Seeing Aldi Daily Mail YouTube All post about K-King Hope she takes well I think I'm starting to see Why she left the internet In the first place guys This is what I mean Like you can't win Because you're all freaks And then when you go to the bottom, like everyone's commenting, like you tell him, tell him what?

5:11Like, okay, we made a mistake. Also, none of you bitches were there four years ago when she was posting live. I was, I can tell you many a Kate King fact. Yeah. And I'm also like, okay, master of Kate King's internet. Like, please explain how you can be knighted and we can't. Then people arguing about whether she gets ad revenue or not. And then the actual Randalls UK who sent her the sweets comments, she purchased him. We had no idea. Fine. It's bad when the brand are getting in the comments. It's bad. It's never a good look. Like fucking Walmart commenting on a Sabrina Carpenter Coachella video going, like, you ate the screen.

5:49DM us girl. Yeah, DM us girl. Like, I just, yeah. As soon as the brand gets in the comments, it's over. But I have from Primark commented, which is great. Oh, wow. Yeah. Okay. But I just, as the week was going on, and we just get more and more comments of people kind of, like debating who's right about kate king's life as if like we're not all facts of kate king like we all just love kate king that's it like let's go on it's all uh it's all another example of how people people feel like they can say anything on the internet i saw i saw a tiktok video that was really smart and it was basically saying about how gen z in particular are taught that like it's not that their voice matters because we are we should all be taught that but we're taught that like you should always oh i can't remember what she was saying basically saying like you should always i don't know that they always feel like the thing that gets people off about commenting is the fact of like having a point and it's like it doesn't even have to be a point just as much as when people tweet celebrities like hey and then when the person replies up like love you queen just wanted a response kind of thing like any response is a response and like I don't really actually think that I think we're a bit cooked there lads to be honest well yeah it's sort of it's the assumption that that person will never read that or that like that them entering into public life and doing so well means that like they kind of built for like people to be commenting on anything and everything that they post online I it reminds me of Chapel Row and I feel like a bit like some people just aren't some people aren't built for fame some people aren't built for the gilded cage as ivy woke i think also it's like i think it particularly happens within queer spaces because look at all the fucking outright no one's kicking off in their group chat everyone's like love that suck i want to suck all you off andrew tay let me let can you come on me and glaze all over me but you got queerdos here being like fuck me mom you're a fucking cunt messaging you like clocky brick bitch do you know what i mean just to get a reaction like we are eating ourselves up do you think uh i care too much but like it is it's like the right love each other loads like we're just like sat around and everyone's just like fighting in the comments over if kate king got sent free sweets or not so you think i thought she did you think uh kate king's fan base 1700 likes on that comment 1700 1700 people went yeah get her like you're dumb you're so dumb she actually didn't she actually did she paid for the suite okay she paid for the suite okay guys yeah like that's all chill chill it was it was a bit we were joking it was a joke um sorry just what was the coming bit about Andrew Tate.

8:48Well, like, they're all out on that. In the group chat. What are the alt-righters saying? Well, they're all coming in, like, it's the same when, like, on the live stream from when, like, because I've only ever seen, like, them on the through documentary, but on the live stream they were like, whenever, when he says, when he mentions that Israel and Palestine, everyone's like, yeah, you got him, you got him. And HS Tiki Tiki, you've got him. It's like, that wouldn't happen with the left. They'd all be like, leave him alone, leave everyone be, like, oh, You're all wrong. Bash your head against the floor.

9:18Fucking wanker. Just to get a fucking response. Like, oh my God. Sometimes. Yeah. Sometimes. Sometimes. I get a good feeling. Yeah. Sue, I think the elephant in the room. Can't call a selfie that. You fucking fat bastard. Is Coachella happened last week. Yeah, it did. What are your initial thoughts and feelings on what's happened but what's been coming across your feed slater yeah they're saying slater is gonna have a chapel moment which is really fun because slater's been about for years fantastic um and then she did crank it and it was like everyone was jumping and famously at hotel and no one jumps right so she actually got people jumping so i was like oh shit like and even when they are the new thing even when they are jumping it looks like they don't know what to do with themselves they don't know where to look or yeah exactly so they've all been kind of so sheltered their whole lives and then they don't know how to act in public i saw a bunch of i don't know coachella looks shit guys so shit also i'm on close friends of jack rem and wait come on he's just like he's got something by the house of magnum yeah and he's filming it and it just looks shit it looks shit it looks like he looks like he's having fun they look like they're in but like it's it literally looks like a big minimal space like a liminal space whatever they call it like i'm so confused yeah and then justin bieber's obviously divided opinions yeah well yeah yeah big time big time so i feel like I'm gonna ask you a question, Sue.

AI Tours Manjaro AI Tours Manjaro and is it someone that's in common? Justin Bieber's Coachella performance okay they're all the future oh is it because it's all the way that people it's all that people like how people consume these days kind of like they're pandering to people online that's true I was going somewhere else which is that it's when people take the easy way or the shortcut people really don't like it because you know Justin Bieber did a thing where he basically kind of in some ways he represented all of what I think is a lot of success on social media which is like

13:14nonchalance catering to a stream yeah um it's either genius or exact keeping it very diy yeah he took the very easy way and i think a lot of people have thought that's genius and a lot of people have gone like where's the where are you where's the performance where's the where's the choreo so not bringing up jack rem again but he did a video where he was like people were leaving yes because he's out there which is interesting because ultimately i had bill text me be like i can't fucking believe it this is the best thing i've ever fucking seen but like i do also think i've seen a lot of videos being like if it was a woman it wouldn't like she would have got absolutely destroyed imagine if lana del rey did that she's the only person i could think of that would probably do that and probably will now her performance i saw her at glastonbury one year and It was.

14:04But there's a whole shebang and she's walking about and she's on a swing. Yeah. And she has a band on stage. She has a band. I don't know. I don't think there was a band. And then he was singing to the track. Yeah. Which is one of my fucking musical acts. Yeah. Like I know they do it in rap a lot. But. I think it's a unique case because it's like only some certain artists could do it that actually have that many hits is the thing. Yeah. Exactly. So ultimately, like if someone has that many hits, they're going to be loved anyway. So it's like Beyonce could do that. And people would like, I don't know.

14:39But she wouldn't do it. But yeah, he's aren't the right to do that because he's Justin Bieber. Whereas you compare it to like Sabrina Carpenter's. Yeah, she couldn't do it. Because what she was doing. Hers has like a whole story. The set is incredible. The choreography is incredible. Yeah. It's like maximalism versus minimalism in two nights at Coachella. but i don't know i do think when he's typing baby and he sat at youtube at his laptop it is kind of great and i think it's fierce i think there was a there was a a column that came out that was like it was a lesson in intimacy which i thought it was like i think it was very intimate i think it was really interesting to see so i think for a one-time thing yes but i think he can't do ever do that again that's interesting because like do you know what i mean my friend ewan said that to me and he must have read the same yeah yeah it was everywhere it was trying to um and i said well it was intimate but it was intimate to people who were watching at home i bet if you were there yeah like obviously there were screens and stuff but like him sitting at a laptop talking to a twitch chat like yeah on youtube like it looks great at home um but like he didn't really engage with the crowd at all but then if there was one festival you could do that it's coachella because it's so dystopian if you did it ready in the leads i think they would boo him off yeah that's true you know i mean i think they were just like what is this like i think the only place he could do that is coachella yeah and so maybe it is genius because it is about online it's about the influencer is about i can't believe that people pay to go yeah that's crazy when so many people have been sent for free i don't right and you know we any fucking different in the way we run this podcast you know it's a clip economy yeah we're doing it for the clips yeah and another thing i found interesting is that the bbc reported it as uh justin bieber does like nostalgia fueled yeah i watched the set start to finish the bit where he's doing his old hits yeah it's only like 10 of the whole set oh no i know apparently most of it's all the new stuff but like but if you are just kind of oh yeah did you see justin bieber's thing on tiktok like you would have thought that that was way more of the set because that was obviously inevitably what like did yeah best on clips so it was sort of just like it was kind of a good marketing move i guess in that they knew that that bit would do well that i was kind of like this is really cool how he's just singing along to us yeah i think that until where are you now came on and then i was like this is bullshit really what do you mean i was like where are you now is like that was a missed moment like yeah because that's such a big song it's such a banger and you could have made the whole crowd go insane yeah yeah but you're sat at a laptop yeah i thought it was really cool until then then i was like yeah um but yeah justin bieber catering the biggest show of his career to people watching it via stream.

17:45Tana Mongeau filming her reaction to the whole concert. Me filming myself gooning to the YouTube stream at home on my Meta glasses. How much did my Coachella cost? Ticket,$750. Accommodation,$9K. Food and drink,$7K. Personal content captured to post reaction videos to Sabrina Carpenter's performance, $12K. Justin Bieber's fee,$10 million. legal fees used for out of court settlement to keep the airbnb cleaner i assaulted for leaving a hair on my head bed sheets quiet 300k the face i make when realized when i realized justin bieber does half-ass karaoke over deez nuts priceless justin b sorry this is just a stand-up bit now justin bieber did what i justin bieber's kachala performance was like what i do when i bring a girl back prance around casually occasionally say all right let's keep it moving or yeah but do you go back showing her youtube memes and old videos of my own that i recite word for word except he got paid 10 million dollars that was the point yeah that was your mental off then it's gonna open the window i'm really warm is it also incredibly dark yeah We're here now And you shake me till you break me with Them barrel I'm going down I'm in a bad mood That's okay Why are you in a bad mood?

19:17I don't know I just feel nasty I'm not nasty I just feel very like Is it the search? No I think I Too much self perception? Yeah Too much self perception i think it's a lot of self-perception like today the interview earlier was about me yeah but but not just me i think this whole thing i don't know if you feel the same but it's like when anyone asks you a question it's not just like about your music or about the podcast like this morning i was talking which i'm really grateful for but like i was so grateful so grateful but then i was like talking about my own experience then my uni experience then the podcast then music then like me personally and then everything i was like i genuinely i know that's literally like the internet at the minute but like i've genuinely got like fuck do you know i mean it's just like you're on earth it all and he's like right off you go home it's um it's an unnatural amount of talking about yourself yeah it's crazy and while it's nowhere near as tiring as working in a cafe it is tiring because it's using a different muscle which is like performance yeah and that's why i know you like doing the pods in the morning just a little little law drop for the listeners i tend to like go like can we do later and you're like can we do earlier yeah and we meet in the middle why do you like it later because if i do the pod in the morning yeah i then can't get anything done after the pod really because i'm like i'm on an adrenaline low oh see i'm the opposite where like i perceived myself so much like i did that podcast at like 10 in the morning yeah got home 11 in the morning got home sent loads of emails did actually quite a bit of work checking all these live videos signing off on things then after that i do a podcast i'm like i'm so like been online posting my videos online like i'm so sick of myself at this moment in time do you know what i mean yeah no i know exactly and then you'll read like a bad comment or whatever and you'll just be like yeah okay although i would i mean i would personally say that i don't mind if i was in your shoes i wouldn't mind it it's when it's like um watching yourself like when i have to listen back to the podcast um to edit it that's all all watch my videos back if i'm not sure if it's good or not yeah but then conversely sometimes i do this really weird sadistic thing where i like watch a video i've done that's done well like yeah five times in a row i know what you mean and i'm like trying to study what's good about it yeah or is it even that or am i just like dopamine i honestly don't know and then also like i'm just like i've got dopamine i've got um a thing tomorrow a session tomorrow in brighton with like my friend and i'm really excited but i'm just like oh and then i have to go like sell send myself off to brighton in hopes that i make a hit that i can sell hopefully do you know what mean just like oh hey but you hey it might sell it might not but you might you might forge a really strong creative i will have a good day i am being i've been negative is this a person you've had a session with before yeah i love them very much okay i'm excited to see them so you won't have to thumb it in no you're already lubed up lube the fuck up okay open the fuck up um well maybe in more rosy news yeah we've actually got a live political uh report yeah uh from budapest where where um the sound's not working oh the sound's not working okay well i'll forward the whatsapp to your phone and then we can do it from there um for my baby but obviously in budapest for those of you who have been living under a rock um a fidesz the far-right party has just been ousted by a new party, which I believe is the centre-right party, and I don't know the name of it, but there's been a big election and the far-right party got out, so I went to our political correspondent...

23:18Oh, I went to our political correspondent live in Budapest, and here's what he had to say. Hello, this is Bill Melner reporting live from Budapest, Hungary. Budapest. Obviously, I've woken up in a brand new uh hungary this morning we are now uh under the rule of uh tisa no longer fidesz no longer all ban um it looked like it was jolly in the town square thing near the parliament last night or like yesterday afternoon uh and then i was in bed by 8 p.m only to be awoken by sirens and a couple of fireworks celebrating the ousting of Viktor Orban. So that's great. They are quite quiet and chill about politics.

24:20I guess because they're going from somewhat far-right politics to now centre-right, so they're like, it's better than nothing. but it feels like it's not completely unhappy. Maybe. You can really feel the energy from Budapest. It's good news that we've got rid of Orban and we'll see what's next. But I went out for a coffee this morning and the coffee tasted the exact same as it tasted yesterday. Ooh, bars. Hi there, it's Bill Milner, culture correspondent for Straight Diva here and I just want to throw my two cents in about Justin Bieber's performance at Coachella. I thought it was fab. Yes, I was streaming it at home.

25:07I wasn't there. But to watch it from home was a great joy. I loved the way that he organized the whole set. He started off with some of his new stuff, a couple of slow songs, and then he did his whole YouTube bit, which, frankly, I loved. I thought it was a lovely nod to whence he came. and then finished off with some absolute bangers and got like Thames and Wizkid on stage. Loved it. Fabulous. Will always love Justin Bieber. Thank you. No love you there for me. That's a bit selfish. Only you forhold my body. Oh, bless Bill Mernon in Budapest. Yeah. Trying his best to sound excited.

25:55a lot of uhs for an actor oh bill come home you absolutely sorry not to be a dead horse but what i feel like i don't know what you thought about just to be his performance i didn't care you didn't care right okay i don't care you don't care it was texting me i was watching that mormon documentary on netflix and bill was like you have to watch it and i started i just flicked through and i was like okay he's doing karaoke on stage like congrats i guess well tell us about the mormon documentary well it's like number two on like netflix right now and it's this girl that goes into this like uh this i think it's mormon this like these um sorry if i misreligioned you sorry um but yeah sorry if you're evangelical they basically have like uh what not a pastor what are they called what is it called prophet and then like the prophet just say not past oh i thought you meant like you know spaghetti no no no no they have a prophet and then he disappears because he goes to jail so then this other man's like oh guess what he's just psychically told me i'm the new prophet and then everyone like starts to marry him and then he starts being a nonce and then they have to prove it but it's quite amazing because this woman just goes into a community and saves all the women basically okay it's wild and justin bieber's performance wasn't as interesting no it wasn't unfortunately not have you watched it oh in more positive news maybe yeah pink pantherist's performance looked really good really good she's so fun and british and i think that's one of the um the happier stories yeah of coachella is that pink pantherist is an artist that you know people would dogging maybe maybe choose a better word than that dragging let's go for her live set not being as good as i love her as i recorded songs and it just goes to show that artists develop at different paces and there's lots of different aspects to being an artist and not everyone's a live artist but she's really become a live artist and it's so nice to see it's so inspiring um and uh i just wanna i wanna i wanna give a big Shout out to Pink Pantheros Love you Pink Pantheros Also sometimes I filled Sophie's belly And pretend that she's pregnant Aww But she'll never be pregnant And that's okay Because neither will I What because she's spayed Yes Aww Aren't you Sophie Woppy Sophie Woppy Woppy Do you ever take a shit And it smells so bad That it genuinely makes you sad Not really no No Unless it's a hungover one And then they smell me Because it smells alcohol It's really weird With hungover shits That you sometimes they're super clean breaks and sometimes they're like diarrhea yeah and i don't know why they're happening when they're happening it would be good to get some sort of doctor on the pod yeah on the ground yeah that's a great idea yeah get a doctor on the pod we could ask you feel my ball all clear yeah yeah guys i got my ball scanned weirdest thing in the world you make you spoke about a sheet you put on a paper towel like on your day who's that desperate it's been that dry at home so he's getting a doctor to fill her up

29:04and and and you put like yeah

29:14and I you have to put a paper towel over your peen and then like they just go to the balls and then just like they put so much so you lie down you lie down ultrasound on my ball yeah so you lie down And they make you get naked, obviously. Oh, what's happening there? They make you get naked. Yeah. Then you're on the bed and they're like, cover up your sheenus, penis, whatever the fuck, with a paper towel. So then your balls are just hanging out from the bottom of the paper towel and then they go on to scanning them. What, to give you like privacy or something? I guess so. But like, I'm also like, my balls are there.

29:48Like, you're just scanning them. Anyway, he's not looking at them. He's just like going, goes under them. And then he asked me to cough. So they asked me to cough. that was embarrassing because then the cough I let out was like but he said it was nothing sinister yeah yeah and that was it really but the worst feeling was the gel like going in between your ass cheeks dripping down your balls into your ass cheeks but I don't have cancer lads which is nice and then the doctor licking it from your gooch that's so horrible but I was really proud of myself when I bought myself an uber home did you get the results there and then yeah Well, he was like, I can see that's not like cancer.

30:30And what is it? What I thought it was. Oh. Which is just like... Ligma. People just like... Not again. I'm just a dirty thob. I'm just pathetic little fuckboy.

30:44Guys, I'm so cooked today. No, it's been great. Cooked. I mean, should we just do some agony aunts? No, no, I can carry on. I don't really have anything else to talk about. Lo-ken-u-en-ly. 33:27Yeah, absolutely. Because otherwise I can't drink it. Anyway. Your coffee has given you the energy you needed. You speed off to Stoke Wonderful Radio for a beautiful night of tunes fun on the radio. What sort of music will you play in? Modern pop forward one side of 70s stuff forward. Modern pop, obviously. Oh no, the coffee isn't quite right. The music is all wrong. There's just no need for that, is there? If you listen to Tuesday Night... There's just no need for that, is there? If you listen to the Tuesday Night Request show, you'd know this Lady Di makes an appearance as a ghost and shows a disappointment even though she's so beautiful and lovely you lose Princess Di gives you a special time travelling device which they've got in heaven where she's from use it to time travel back to any previous slide I guess 70s stuff then on the radio yeah well done you arrive at radio station with plenty of time and enjoy the rest of your drink which you've cleverly ordered extra hot and evening of 70s classics as well as a bit of Ed Sheeran and some of Anne-Marie's recent stuff goes down a right treat with a book into your audience you win congratulations wow we're just amazing who made this emily no no i got non-telescopic shout out to non-telescopic yeah that's brilliant stuff okay let me throw a question at you sue why do you think kate king is um a sort of seemingly a queer hero or or is it not because she's just herself like i feel like that's the thing she's just herself and she does things like say like be a love it's the same reason as like Like, it's the same thing as like, what's her face?

34:56Who sings? Oh, what's her face? Jane. Jane McDonald. Don't know. How do you not know Jane McDonald, for fuck's sake? Because I'm a straight man. We've been out. This is the podcast, Sue. Jane McDonald. We're bridging algorithmic gaps. You know what I've seen? No, I've never seen her in my life. Have you seen her do J-Hop?

36:04This summer, serve up the cookout classics, Oscar Mayer hot dogs and Heinz mustard. Grill up a dog, add classic yellow mustard, or loaded Chicago style. We all know it's not a cookout without Oscar Mayer and Heinz.

36:32every time she releases an album she goes to number one she just went to number one again because the gays love her it's crazy she's just a she's an icon i think they're people that aren't meant to necessarily be famous and then the reason james everyone loves james abdonald is she's on documentary called the cruise and basically she was at this like she's a northern girl from a northern town and she's just a girl that like loves to sing and that's it and like they've just made her a national treasure and it's the same case just a girl from ailsbury who just loves to queen out with her parents just that's really funny well but there was something that you mentioned or alluding to there was that that's like this like outcast thing going on no i don't i actually don't think they're outcasts i think it's that they're just normal okay i think they They almost seem like outcasts They're not polished In like the influencer space Or like Jay McDonald in like You know being like an artist I don't know Like a charting artist But she gets number one What's she best known for Being a presenter Singing Jay McDonald the singer But then sorry I thought you said She was doing She is a presenter Okay She's got her documentaries and stuff How do you not know Jay McDonald I don't know Jay McDonald I mean I recognise her face I reckon your mum would know Jay McDonald Obviously Apparently she's quite rude In her life though No shade Okay But she's Jay McDonald So she can be Okay Like Charlie Marlowe interviewed her and she said she's never been more nervous in life as she was crying in the interview.

37:45Because she's a national treasure. She's like, especially a Northern treasure. Okay, so it's that they are normal and relatable and accessible. Yeah, like when the cruise came out, it was basically just, it was documentary on the cruise. Yeah. It was watched by millions of people and it basically just followed a few different people on the cruise. But it was Jane talking about like, wanting to be like one of the best singers on the cruise. And it wasn't like any particular like crazy cruise. it was just like she was just a british town singer who'd sing around the clubs and everything you know i mean like she wasn't like she wasn't like a cheering or whatever she was just a girl that sang in the club and people just liked her and that was it and she was like she's a an unlikely hero for example okay okay they just found her and she has just done well like every every album she does charts and she sells out the palladium every time so people want to feel like they found you yeah that's that's uh that's a universal thing yeah a and r's the gays the gays they want to feel like they found you i swear i talked about the other day that was like um washed up pop star who's 10 years past their prime we're coming yeah it's like like coming back to her uh gay audience like please please oh i did see that yeah

39:01please please still lovely yeah and everyone was saying it was casher in the in the comments i was i was seeing more marina i was seeing a couple robins and i was like i know robin's crazy yeah robin's crazy because robin's always on music like that but yeah it gives marina and it gives um uh it gives like cash a joyride okay casher's playing uh hyde park this summer Yeah she's fab I love her Why haven't we been invited Nobody connecting those dots I don't know Sue I think doing Vox Pop at Barclay Summertime I fucking hate doing Vox Pop I got asked up today Do you like doing Vox Pop And I was like Yeah for money Yeah Oh god It's just horrible Can you talk to No okay It's like It's horrible I'm being negative today I'm sorry No no no I think this is good I think it's good to see A sort of Unfiltered Sue I think Yeah it's horrible I've got personality disorder you don't want to elaborate on why you don't like vox pop no no I like doing vox pops especially when I'm getting paid but ultimately going around interviewing people who don't want to be spoken to and then you go and speak to them and then they're like don't know it's just like okay fine and it's even worse being told to go interview a celebrity and the celebrity's like don't know like oh my god it's just dreadful it's literally We want to get this part We want to get Random people's opinion In the street On this latest Zeitgeisty topic So we're going to Blindside them With a question So they can ramble out Yeah from a transsexual In the street Oh yeah just what they want Do you know what I mean Buzzing And then they ramble out Some kind of random answer That's probably Kind of what they've read Online so it feels like Exactly It's like how are we Going to get anywhere Ballet flats Yeah Um Ugg boots Like fuck off Oh skinny jeans I hate skinny jeans I hate skinny jeans they can't come back they just can't come back everything comes back yeah everything comes back obviously I'll do it and I'll do it time and time again I do love my job I know it's a very easy job but there does hit a point where it's just kind of like I think it will I don't think it'll last I think in truth box pops as a concept are dead and actually we need to think of like bigger things to get influencers or presenters to do an interview with people is different getting someone to like sit down in an installment or something like getting people to come into a space or something is so much better than running up to them and be like like i did i can't say who it's for but i did a video for a brand last year and like a lot of the questions are quite inappropriate but we were on like brick lane at like one o 'clock for example and they're making me run up to like quite young people and if i say the questions but some of the questions inappropriate to the point where i just simply wouldn't ask them and i'd walk off and they're like we need to get this question i was like i was like that would be inappropriate to ask that person or like and also as well like and it's an inappropriate question to ask anyone that's not your mate like there are some questions and also do you know those fake things where people are like run up to people and like go up to them with microphone if someone did that to me i genuinely will welcome like i genuinely like on site get the fuck out my face running up to me with a microphone are you joking my tie kick to the face and so it's like general people are like and then i've like done a couple jobs with like just running to the store and going to the barbershop me running to like a room full of men with a microphone no there's not an amount of money you could pay me it's the pits it's the pits it gets the worst out of everyone it's like it's forcing people to invade people's space quite often when you do the vox pop things they're like as we've both spoken off we like to ask someone's permission but sometimes and to be fair it can get good results but I hate doing it sometimes they're just like no no we're just going to go up and start filming people because that's more of an authentic reaction and that just feels horrible the only time it worked was at Robin because everyone was coming out of Robin and I wasn't asking them a question.

43:13Everyone was buzzing and I just went, I was literally, I didn't even go up to people. I just stood there with a mic and people were running up and coming to the mic. That works. Times that it doesn't work is running up to random people and they're just trying to shop. Like, it is crazy. No, I think you're right though. It just doesn't work. It's gonna, it's. But I think it is changing. I think, I saw, I did see a piece today about how like, Vox Pops are the laziest type of like brand work. For sure. And it's gonna, it's all, I think the smartest publications and brands have already realized that people are starting to care less and less about them although they're just yielding the same kind of vapid results which is like we're not really getting anywhere there's no real depth to the questions or the answers yeah like if you're if you're trying to do like and it like a presenter with a mic is not bad if the presenter's like you know showing something or telling a story or or doing something or like telling jokes or whatever like but getting someone to just run up somebody else is like one it's a huge invasion of privacy in my opinion and two like i just think it's so like yeah it's just shit i just think it's so lazy that being said i don't think that stands on like festivals i think festivals vox pop work thanks babe um yeah literally i'm saying it for myself trying to get to lie though days i can't wait to come back i can't yeah when it's like but like you know everyone's having a good time it's what i said about robin it works there like and you're asking people you're asking fans questions about an artist they love they know that they're going to get in a video on a big publication we're not doing anything political yeah exactly whereas it's like being working for a brand and running up to people in the streets does not fucking work it doesn't work not to say that i don't think we should talk about politics i just don't think like when i've seen like people at wide awake talking about politics i'm like is this the best way to address the political issues of the day like while people are kind of you know about to get fucked up or whatever yeah and just kind of don't want any questions on them but um but yeah i agree with you good discussion i think i'm all for doing interviews i'm all for doing interviews i'm all for talking to people on the streets i'm all like i'm all for going to festivals and doing things i just think when it's talking about something general like someone's music or like the event is someone's like something or it's like a party where it's like oh there's this going off we're gonna ask people who are fans of this it doesn't work when it's like you're working for i don't know the tulip factory and he just sending me to brick lane which's got enough to do with it and someone's buying a face mask and i'm like thoughts on tulips yeah it's like girl fuck you what are you talking to me about do you know i mean or like if there are like documentaries can use vox popper a lot but like it's considered and it's like okay if we're gonna ask people about politics we're gonna ask people questions about politics at a protest or something yeah that's fine but like when it's like i'm promoting my new single so i'm gonna go to brick lane yeah just ask random strangers who don't know who i am clueless tourist yeah yeah some like clickbaity bullshit probably like 18 yeah like that's the thing i was like the young one like the cool one it's like they're kids to me now do you know what i mean like come on it's content assault it's content assault i do think it is ca ca warning mean so if you start playing the tail game where she flicks tail around and i grab it i got offered my first Rover job the other day.

46:34Oh, what? Do you know what Rover is? Rover. Yeah, it's a chasing app. What? No, it's, um, Rover is an app. This isn't a brand read. I wonder if we should start doing fake brand reads considering we don't get any real ones. Well, that's what we did on Field. Yeah. We made it real, so. Rover is an app where you get paid pretty small amounts of money to dog sit. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And I got offered this hideous looking cute pug called Mini that I couldn't take because I had because I had Laura Thomas's 30th birthday I think I made the right decision yeah or another dog instead but kidding Laura I love you she's not listening no she's absolutely not listening yeah Agony Arts yes that is all to say you thinking about me for a box pop I'd love that do you think we come across negative today I have obviously well yeah sometimes and that's good that's part of the I think I say my opinions I don't like going out and stuff I do actually like going out And I do like doing Box pop stuff It's like Very situational But like I have said no To box pop stuff Where it's like I think you're gonna be Preaching to the choir With this one Yeah I know And also more importantly I think it's good You know sometimes To be negative I think that's part of the That's part of the Regularity The frequency of what we do Sometimes it's You know it's not always Rain sun or shine Yeah When it rains at Hallsdale Agony Aunt Request Hey Sue and Lou Do I invite my situationship to my birthday party i'm having a big house party about 40 people for my birthday at the end of the month new situationship is on the same unicourse as me and all way almost all the people who will be in attendance will not will be in the same year there is no way he wouldn't find out about the party occurring but also he's not particularly friends with anyone who will be there the whole situation is very new so i don't know if i'd be dtm by inviting him dtm dtm fuck down to mate i don't know but it would be maybe be fun if he was there would love your advice on this one love you both your music and the podcast thanks in advance love you love you um yeah i never understood those girls that would be like dating someone like no i've been dating six weeks can't come to my birthday i'll tell you who's at my birthday after two months of just lightly dating bill i could give a shit bill's coming bill's coming yeah like i like get him there it's fun and also you get to test them out with your friends yeah you're not gonna be like sat with them at the head of the table like king and queen like just got married you're fine babe just invite them it's funny you get a bit cocky at the end of a night lush lovely um yeah i think i agree i think only reason don't invite them is if you'd feel awkward about it yeah and you feel like you'd have a better time and you feel like you'd be looking after them yeah like if you feel like you'd like you feel like they're the sort of person that wouldn't be good at a party but But if you're thinking about anything else than that, if you're thinking about what others are going to think of him or them, if you're thinking about...

49:32And that's okay. That's okay. So consider it. Yeah. Just go with your instinct. What's going to be a good time? Because if it's a situation, maybe your little family can go out anyway. They're a bit of a loser. Maybe you don't want them at the party. But what did the love of your life... the love of your lady also if you're going out and you want to pull and you don't even rate the situation that much you're just kind of stringing them along yeah then maybe not but Sue's answer was pretty convincing I think so I think just it's a key go get your cocky Agony on how do I get over straight men I'm kidding not kidding how do I get over straight men I'm a 20 year old gay man okay let me be nice agony on how do i get over straight men oh i'm a 20 year old gay man nb aspirational woman but for all intents and purposes i show up as a boy me too to be fair kidding um i have also got crushes on straight friends since i was young but for some reason i never feel attracted to visibly queer guys like myself when i do like guys that are obviously gay i often find they a very outgoing type and i feel intimidated by them as i am a fairly shy person i crave the approval of straight guys and it's painful because i'm full of yearning but i have never been in a relationship it's difficult to feel confident with myself and openly expressing my feelings when i've experienced so much rejection in the past i've rarely felt attracted to guys who are interested in me okay okay here's a good one so not should i invite my fucking situation who cares no this is actually a good one this is a good um so i think my love you best oh god it sounds like there might be some internalized homophobia or transphobia in there darling because it the the issue of like femininity isn't a thing like i think when people are severely just attracted to straight acting guys there's like a deeper issue going on and perhaps it sounds as though the issue is yourself and like you said that you're feeling a bit insecure is it that you're insecure because you don't want to be seen with them?

Avalon Emerson song. because i also feel it's like as a girlie with a boyfriend who is probably bisexual my man but he's quite feminine do you know what i mean but like if i like he's the best man i've ever met in my life i've been with the straightest man you'll ever see but ultimately they're usually the worst my love do you just crave the approval of straight guys because you you crave what you can't have oh i ate with that one and the grass isn't necessarily greener on the grass is not greener over there babe especially for people like us also it sounds as though you need to not you need to but you're very it sounds as though you're interested in looking at gender and looking at how you can go across that way and if you are interested in straight guys transitioning will probably be good for you because you there's loads of trans guys no straight guys that are attracted to trans women.

53:33Did you at any point in your life feel like this? Did I? Not really. No, no, not really. I think, I think, yeah, but it's because it's somebody else's like, not as like an adult. I think when I was very young, but it's because I wanted to be the girl. Right. Do you know what I mean? So I'd get with guys. But then when I think about the first guy I tossed off in an alley, he was very femme. Okay. And then so was basically everyone. not like when you were kind of 2021 when i was with my bad ex he's quite manly right he's the he's a useless excuse of a man but but he was also he's like very attracted to you yeah and but he'd call me like brav and stuff like it was like all right brav like it was very like geezer um did that make me feel like a petite little girl yes it did but it was possibly the worst relationship of my life and it doesn't exist that like shit doesn't exist it doesn't if anything i think those type of men are like possibly the worst men you could ever meet in my opinion um yeah it's a tough one this is a tough one um i feel like you need to ask yourself why you're craving the approval of straight men of straight men um and start there

54:48yeah tough one there though yeah but you know maybe try exploring your gender identity it sounds like you're an aspirational woman maybe that's something that you want to focus on before you start dating anyway you know like maybe you want to know where you are first also you're 20 you're 20 there's loads of time to figure out 20 years old but thank you for your beautiful question it's now raining yeah so we're gonna stop I love you look oh
