In short
Sue discusses starting ADHD medication (Concerta) and how it affects her anxiety and focus; they also debate “influencers” vs real creative work, react to Simon Cowell’s The Next Act, and get into trans women’s discourse around desirability/passing and femininity. They finish with festive-season talk, TV/music banter, and a Mo Salah news riff.
Guest backgrounds
No guest is clearly identified; it’s a co-hosted conversation between Sue and another host (“Bill” is mentioned as a partner/housemate, not a podcast guest).
Key claims
ADHD meds quiet “noise” and remove intrusive thoughts; they’re not a constant “speed” feeling. “Influencing” is argued to be dead/vapid when it’s just brand/party content without IP or output. Trans women shouldn’t be assumed to want passing; desirability can become a value trap shaped by men/beauty standards and privilege.
Notable examples
Concerta clarity for taxes; LNCC DJ booking; Dazed party/free bar; Simon Cowell’s Next Act; “demure”/Jules LeBron; passing/clocking terms; Mo Salah “thrown under the bus” comparison to Lady Gaga.

0:52Right. This is a momentous day in history, Sue.
1:03Why? In silent night Oh, harmonise. Goon me right All is clear In my pants No, today... I found a street on a house on which you play. Stop buying the fucking... Yeah, so stop now. You're being a sausage cat. Bye-bye. Bye-bye. Okay, she's still there. Ladies and gentlemen. Hello. Ladies and gentlemen, I should say. Today is a momentous day. That feels light. Not very bright. Sorry. No, it's okay. Baby, make sure it's perfect. Okay, baby? Baby? I like warm. Do you have a cool bell, baby? Yeah, all the time. Baby. Really? Yeah. I feel like baby's quiet. Baby's quite millennial I was making fun of millennials I have a problem, I have bones to pick Sorry, why is today a mantis today?
2:09Because today is the first day That Sue I think has taken ADHD meds So guys, I skipped the queue And she's been And you've been playing all the hits You've been saying, I'm just like so clear Playing all the hits is so shady I'm so clear and I'm just so productive I've watched Game of Thrones without checking my phone Yeah, without like bothering. Like, guys, so I can't say where I got them, but I acquired ADHD mats. To the person that gave them me, love you. I got a 3.5 and some L-Vants. Yeah, they were like, I'm not using them, do you want them? And I said, yeah, I do. So I was nervous to take them, took them.
2:46It made me feel a bit, I was walking around the park like, this is weird. It just quiets your brain a little bit. It's not amazing. Like, I'm not like, oh my God, I can do like loads of different things. It's just more like there's a clarity and I don't feel anxious either. Are you willing to say which one it was that you had or not? Oh my God. They're concerta. Oh yeah. Classic. So I've been popping those. And okay. It's interesting to hear that you say, cause I feel like a big, I'm not an expert in ADHD meds disclaimer, but I feel like a symbol of when people do have ADHD is when they take the pills and they don't just feel like they're fucking on speed so yeah so that and i think that just shows how they do yeah so because the gag was with it was out it was like i was never a diva who like did hormones on the like i didn't get my own hormones basically like all of the girlies get this from my black market etc etc and i don't and i went to the doctors and everything i just thought oh fuck it like if i'm gonna get offered them and like this wonderful person offered them me i was like all right fuck it so i've just been taking them so i've just been so I took one this morning and I just feel I just feel good like now I feel like I could do my taxes and it makes will I do this every day probably not like because it's one of those things as well which is like you kind of don't need to take every day it's not like a medicine like it's like it's just it's just an upper yeah you don't want to take it on the weekends yeah no like it's when I'm out and about and fine I don't really want to take it but like I know that like when I do need to do my taxes and like so I will need to sit and do them you're obviously only one day in but do you feel like there's any uh side effects or like do you feel um apparently they come down at the end of the day it's hard oh really but we're busy tonight so it's fine we're busy we're busy busy i i feel fine like that's it like it's the weirdest thing i just feel fine yeah like i haven't had like an intrusive thought as in you feel everyone everyone hates me today really no intrusive thoughts no fuck i know it's just feel um like do you just feel more clear or do you feel more emotionally stable it's not like clear i don't think any any bigger than i thought right it's just like less distraction yeah less noise like i could distract myself like today i like went to exercise and then i sat on the bed for 10 minutes but i was like i'm happily on the bed for 10 minutes not like oh my god i should be doing this so i should be doing that it was like oh no i've got time then i exercise exercise without doing everything else usually i'll do half an exercise and like stop all my stuff up in my room and carry on um so yeah it's kind of just like Like, okay, things feel a bit quieter.
5:24That's how I can describe it. It's not fierce. It's not like I'm like, oh, God, I can do anything. It's just like, yeah, your brain's just a bit quieter. Okay, well, I'm really happy for you, darling. Thanks, babe. Dub's in the chat for Sue, I think. Do you want one? Yeah, I do want one. Yeah, okay. Not now, because you won't sleep tonight. Now! I'll give you one for like tomorrow. On the podcast. What you thought. Yeah. How are you otherwise? How's your week been? Yeah, good. I had like family Christmas yesterday. Bill's family Because we're doing it Because everyone's going separate Tell them what you got So we did two Santa And Bill's beautiful nephew Got me And he bought me A pride necklace Which was really fun Well it was a fierce Heart necklace Locket I don't know how many Details you can tell About a child Okay fair enough He's young He's a child Okay And he bought me A beautiful Heart locket And then Two t-shirts One says good vibes only and then the other one says, I drink more wine.
6:24So I just thought, oh my God, I'm the pissed auntie. I just thought fierce. And how do you feel about that role? Fierce drag jewels. Yeah. I'm happy to be that. Yeah. As long as you're cool, as long as it's not like. Yeah, I'm the cool pissed auntie. I'm the cool alcoholic, aren't I guys? Yeah, it's a fine line between cool auntie and alcoholic auntie. Yeah, well the gag is, the thing that I would have said to him is like, you should have said vodka, my babe. Because I'm a vodka girl. Because I went to drink wine yesterday and I had one glass of wine and I thought,
6:52And it's been that kind of week It's been that kind of month Yeah But guess what It also is My birth week On Friday I turn a number That I'm not happy to say On the podcast Really? Well no I turn I turn late 20s So you'll probably figure out What that one is I turn 27 You're not going to tell them No I need to survive For a year guys And if I die this year How iconic Sue's turning 38 Yeah I'm turning 42 I'm really excited But how are you girl? I'm really good I've been Sending it I've been sending it Actually Yeah no I have been sending it And that's okay We I've got something to tell you as well Uh oh No no you carry on It's nothing bad We had We had a pretty full on week We had And I'm not really good I'm not used to drinking Through the week Like at that We DJ'd at this shop LNCC Shout out to LNCC Shout out to Miss 60 Shout out to Knowles Yeah For some reason, they thought it would be a good idea to book us to DJ.
7:52But Lord knows, we shelled it. We actually sent it. It was actually quite fierce. We even had an agent come up to us and hand them our card. Hand them their card. She was a bit jarring. No shade, but it won't be you. You are not the saboteur. I literally played like two reggaeton songs. And she was like, whoa, who are you? What is your vibe? If you keep playing reggaeton all night. And she was like, write something on the card And I was like, okay, and then I just kept the card I wrote my handle down And then Did she follow it? I don't think so, no And it was a red pen, so it barely showed But nonetheless Sheld it we did Sheld it we did, sent it we have Sent it we must And then we had the dazed party on Wednesday Which was fun Which was fun It was an actual Christmas party But I was in no state to be there, to be honest.
8:48And it didn't have the kind of lubrication stage that I was hoping for. It was kind of straight into loud tunes. Loud tunes. And dancing. Dancing, drinking. And it was really fun. Free bar. Thanks, Days. Free bar. And also got Days 100. Yeah. Did we say that? Oi! No, we haven't said that. Got Days 100. So just want to say thank you to Days. And you are right. We are 100 most influential people in the UK. Yeah. No. In the world. In the world. In the world. That's quite fierce. To say you've only been doing this a year. Yeah. Or the other podcast found dead. Or the other podcast found dead faggot.
9:23Deceased. Scene of the crime. Straight diva perpetrator number one. Where will we be in three years? We'll be literal on Tendek. Hi, I'm straight and I'm diva. Yeah, what is the ceiling for this podcast? Lines are now open for fucking H who's back in the jungle with Whitney from EastEnders. Vote now. Do you think the We could do that I'm sorry I always walk past The Big Brother presenter All the time Who's the Big Brother presenter Not AJ Is it AJ that does Big Brother Diversity No No Who's the other guy Will Best He literally lives over there I see him all the time He walks his dogs in the morning Walk past 12 on a coffee walk Which reality TV show Would you like us to present most Oh like One with lots of money Yeah I don't care about being cool When it comes to TV I think at that point is like that is the thing like I'm a celeb like Antidech are gonna die soon when I was watching I'm a celeb this year though I was like wow they are really good at what they do yeah they are really good but I think we're better yeah for sure and I won't take ADHD meds so we'll be crazy but don't we want the music arc first or do you think we can coexist as music and TV presenters I think Gelson Britain's Got Talent but like not as talent as presenters oh my god and speaking of fucking oh this is a six year old singer and then we gotta pretend it just gets a golden buzzer whoa speaking of Britain's Got Talent to.
10:45Yeah. I have just watched the first episode of Simon Cowell's new show, The Next Act. Which is fierce because... Do you know who they signed to? No. Oh, okay. Who? We know the A &R. Oh, do we? Yeah. Who? Rob. Which Rob? I don't know if I'm spoiling it. Okay, right. Oh! Yeah, sign them. So they're in the TV show. Well, I'm only one episode in. It gets fierce. Okay. I can imagine it gets fierce because there, innit? Well, I'm just... It's so funny. It's so good seeing Simon Cowell back on our TV screens. I would just like to say, why is every band, girl band at the minute, eight to ten people long?
11:27I actually don't have time. Wait, isn't there... There's eight people in the girl group? No, the boy group. There's like seven in... I don't know what group you're talking about because I'm only one up in, so there's like... Oh, the winning group has been announced. Oh, why would they do that? I don't know, but the winning group's been announced and like there's like seven or eight boys in it. Yeah. Is that not a lot for everyone? Well, I guess - I can barely do five. I can barely remember five people, let alone eight. And I feel like the K-pop divas, there's like 12 people in a band. Like, I'm like, guys - It's as bad as the fucking windmill bands who are like, oh, we're going to have the bassoonist and the clarinet player.
12:03It's like - Like, bitch a new road. Fuck off. Guys, how are we going to make any money? What happened to the cheeky girls? Yeah. Yeah, how are they going to make money? Who got the money? Even if they got signed for like a mil, you each get like, what? like well i think thousand each the the the show starts and it's like simon cowell staring in a mirror and he's like i just love boy bands i love surgery and he's like the problem is now is that all the boy bands are from korea yeah i was like okay interesting premise like maybe a little bit of a far right yeah appeal um but what boy band is left what boy band is left us i know and it It makes me wonder, like, maybe is it not cool to have a boy band?
12:47Like, it's, you know, we're too focused on, you know. They will split up. They will split up. They are not making it past the first album. Simon Cowell. No offense. No shade. Well, he doesn't care about the. Yeah, the kids. The eight random lads from around the UK. You think they're going to be like. I do love Simon Cowell as like an entertainment thing. Yeah. And he is great on TV. but he does have a track record of yes like releasing and working artists that are like majorly successful but also he so clearly only likes you when you're young and hot and really doesn't seemingly doesn't give a shit about the welfare there's like 16 year olds coming on and he just cuts them off for like 30 seconds and he's like yeah thanks babe that we were institutionalized by a TV show where the category was over 25s.
13:41As if you're chopped when you're over 25 years old. I genuinely was... I think it's brainwashed a generation. It's so wrong. Well, but I'm thinking like... The youth ends at 25. Are you on crack? It just starts. Like, are you joking? I'm only one episode in, but I don't know if this sort of style of... It's also really nonce. Doesn't... I wonder if it works anymore. I don't think it does. I mean, ignoring the fact that like the music industry is quite different to when X Factor was around, so people can probably just feel like they can make TikToks. The thing that I rate with him is that he's managed to get this thing off the ground.
14:12Did everyone not see the last three seasons of The X Factor? No, because no one watched it. No one cares anymore. Just because you put it on Netflix don't make people going to care. But I was interested to see if his strategy would change, the style of like, okay, we're going to get 16-year-olds and we're going to be quite rude to them and it's going to be like cookie-cutter pop star And I'm just not sure if it like works His kind of like brash style I don't think it works like that anyway Because I think TikTok's open doors Where it's just kind of like You can't really fake something Like people like you They like you They don't They just don't now Like everyone I think in the world Where everyone's got an opinion I think you're getting all of these Like really unlikely pop stars Which I love I think It comes from people liking their personality I remember when Chapel Rome Used to make TikToks And that was why she won everyone over Like I remember that happening Yeah And it was like You would never have said Chapel Rome was a person that was going to do it.
15:04Like, no shade. I think she's amazingly talented before our music came up. But going with that, I know they're always like, young girls need someone to love, but I'm like, I don't know if they do. Young girls are all gay. I think the younger generation are pretty gay. They're like Stan. Do you know what I mean? They're also just like, I think, even though Simon Cowell, he looks like a bulldog now that has been waxed or something. I don't know if the vision, there's all these old men, that classic old dude from pop idol is there um i don't know if like uh kids want to work for that like who is simon cowell to this generation like he starts when they first do their first round of entrance they get like 90 signups well yeah and they're like and i don't know maybe of course some of it is just for the show but like and they were my favorite moment was when he he's like you know playing up to the cameras he eats half a crumpet for his breakfast and he's like oh i'll eat i'll the other half later.
16:03Who knows how true it is. The real joke was not the crumpet gag but was the fact that he literally can't open his mouth to get it in. Christ.
16:16But, chat, let us know what you thought of the Simon Cowell show. Has it captivated you? Is it making you nostalgic for the good old days of mainstream musical talent show television? Or do you think it's washed? I don't think you can unite a nation anymore. like you used to. Yeah. Other than Strictly. But even then, it's like old people. Yeah. Older people. Like the X Factor, I feel like, got everyone tied up. TV doesn't run like it used to run. Yeah, Diary of a CEO is uniting the nation now. Is it? Even then, everyone's like, who's your fucking hell bastard? But the thing I wanted to tell you was...
16:53Tell me about, babe. I ran into, I probably shouldn't name one of the big trans girls on the scene. Trans women, really. and she was saying I was outside this horrible event which will lead into my chat to you later on influencers because I've got things to say. Gorgeous. But she said that every trans girl she's spoken to fancies you. Really? Yeah, she's like I fancy Louis and everyone else does and they're all like all the girls fancy him. Do you think it's because I am an ally or because I'm a bear or? I'm a bear. I'm a little bear. I think it's that thing and I remember someone said this analogy to me back in the day and I was like that's not true but I actually do think it's true with the girl I mean not the same with the girls but basically back in the day I was hanging around with like this big group of people there was this one guy who was with a trans girl then he broke up with a trans girl and everyone fancied this guy and I think it is just because someone is like an ally and is like around and available and also successful available no but I mean to be with a trans woman you're there oh yeah like proudly yeah You don't exist You're there It's like you know it's 5am in the bar You're just there No I mean like you're available As a person And like I openly get along with trans people Do you know what I mean Well I love y 'all too Everything I do is for you Everything I do I've gone it for you I thought you were doing Still the one I love
18:33God, that was terrible I'm feeling hella flat today So, that's pissing me off now, love Sorry To the person who wants descriptions Sophie's playing with a bauble And it's pissing me off Oh my god
18:58Sorry girls
19:03Well I love you girls too Although In saying that I hope the girls don't mind me saying this Specifically the tea girls And it's actually something I wanted to talk to you And Sean about But we didn't get around to it And I get why it's a thing because we all get value from our desirability. Yeah. And I can't imagine when you're trans that it can only intensify. But, like, I sometimes... It makes me sad that I feel like trans women get so much of their value from how desirable they are. Yeah. I'm being sexual. Am I out of pocket for saying that? No. I think... And I, honestly, I revolt against it to the point where, like...
19:48Oh, how do I do it with that? I hate... Hmm. When... So me and Sean were saying... That's so Darwin! Me and Sean were originally saying that... I can't. So, literally... Sophie's running away. Stop that now. Go play with Bill. Bill's going to take you away now.
20:16He's like the most high bitch in the office. she's like a little child oh sorry she's having fun no um no i completely agree i think that i think that femininity as a concept is created by men right and beauty standards are upheld by men right so especially with the girls like obviously especially the girls that really want to pass etc etc which has never been me so like soz boss talking on your um on your experience like this however what i find when i found was when i originally started transitioning i got into this horrible relationship this awful guy kind of thing and i was just like how do i look more feminine how do i do this how do i do that and like kind of like halfway through being with him i like clocked i was like i'm not doing this for me i'm doing it for him the reason i transitioned is to look like a tranny i always want to look like a tranny which is like queer freedom making your own lane kind of thing whatever but i think sometimes especially i think at the minute it's almost getting worse especially like in the 80s all of the girlies it was about passing like t.s madison talks about a lot like who's like she's like the auntie of the trans community she basically talks about how like she struggled a lot with non-binary originally because when you were trans back in the day in the 80s it was like you got everything under the sun to make sure you looked pussy right you know what i mean like you look unclockable however obviously with like that changed with time however it's almost like reverting back to it because i feel like with these with this um political landscape turning like sounding very right at the minute i think a lot of the girls are now like being like okay we need to start passing again like uh and like being unclockable etc so everyone's like that's why i think words like brick and clocking are coming in back into the uh the next con of today because i think people do care about much more about it than when I start transitioning.
22:10People really, really care about it. About passing. Yeah. Whereas I get left alone. Like no one deals with my shit. But I feel incredibly uncomfortable. Okay. PR people who send me things, so lovely and I'm so grateful. But when you send me like really feminine things, it really irks me out. Not because I'm not grateful, I'm super grateful. However, it's like... Anyone who knows you knows that you don't. Yeah, I dress like a baggy, I dress like a lesbian, guys. Wake up. I dress like a street style lesbian. And I think that It's difficult because I think when you say you're a trans woman And I think, I mean we've had a conversation before But I remember having a conversation with my friend And I said I'm not trying to pass And he was like but you do pass And I was like but I'm not trying to so if I don't it's fine And he's like but you do pass, I've never not seen you as a woman You're a woman, you're this, you're that And you're like bitch, I never said I cared about that Like why But I think people are so like There's that saying which is like trans women are women Trans women are women which of course is true but like i think there's almost like i think there's also a belief that you know every trans woman wants to be like passing and it's not true right um there's an immense amount of privilege i know that a lot of like black and brown trans women say that it's like a privilege of like especially like white uh white trans celebrities who don't have to pass because of their privilege like of course do you know i mean there's a lot to do with privilege um in the community but i do think that there was a lot of sorry back to your original question i think there was a lot of um there's a lot of discourse at the minute about passing and there's a lot of discourse as well as being like recognized by men and recognized passing in like having this kind of like not straight boyfriend but like you know how i see it is have you ever heard uh this is what makes us girls by lana del rey no which album this is our first album it's like this what makes us girls we don't look for heaven because we put love first it's our curse don't worry about it i think that's like what the trans girls are to each other i know i know a lot of these girlies will sell you out for a man not saying that they'll go for your man i'm not saying that i'm just saying it's like once people find like they've got a man and they can settle down they do that makes sense yeah um and if i guess i'm in trouble then fuck it i think but i think it's like but even me like when i was with that awful guy he was extremely heterosexual and very like masculine like a geezer type shit like i was like look at me i'm a puny little girl like it's like you're almost you're almost more affected by uh heteronormative standards than normal people yeah not normal people but uh you know i mean by straight people yeah and also like because then you're trying to fit and you're trying to pass and you think about it all the time.
25:00I think it's an exhausting existence. And it's also like you're talking about like personal relationships there, which is very important. But there's also like, I mean, something which I can't really, I've never experienced, which is like day-to-day real life and day-to-day online life. If you're at all online, if you're, it's all very well me saying like, you know wider or I wish trans women wouldn't put so much onus on it but the reality is that I don't exist is that like yeah you're the comments and like your existence and your value is like every day you're you're facing the reality of like people looking at you and going like what is that what are you but I think this is the thing I never cared about that I think this is I know when you leave the house you don't think About being male or female at all Neither do I Like I thought about it for a bit I was like I'd quite like little tits I started taking hormones I don't wake up every day and think I'm a woman I'm a trans woman I don't think about it When I'm in a relationship Me and Bill Like I love when people call us gay Like Technically Technically We're not gay Like But we are gay Like I don't I really don't I don't think about it Like when I do my hair or get ready and put makeup on i'm like i don't care whether this makes it look male or female or whatever the fuck yeah because i don't know what i read as and i don't care like and i think that was where attitudes were going and i think still exist with most people but i find sometimes i move into spaces and move and see certain people that make me feel as though i like need to abide by rules in which it don't exist to me um and then that's where you get whereas i think the real bitches and i think most of the trans community lies everyone's just like well how i see is we're all going down together yeah do you know what i mean you can be like oh this like she looks like a man in her wig whatever but i'm like bitch you think you're safe because she looks a bit clockier than you bitch i'll get us both right in fact i'll probably get you worse yeah because you tricked them like it's bullshit it's all bullshit like we're all together in this yeah um and no one's safe like it's i think what i don't want i think my main sorry i'm going on tangent but i think my main thing about it is i'm like we are all the same no matter if you want to agree with it or not right like sean was saying like we were saying with sean like it's like if you want a guy to be attracted to you a guy will take you home whether you're like five literally five years on eastern like me or whether you've got a wig on you call yourself donna for the night and your real name's curtis like no like we're the same to him do you know what i mean so that's it yeah and i want to clarify that i'm not um i'm not blaming trans No, no, no.
27:45Yeah, the issue is like men and like masculinity and like it's like standards media. I remember there was a video by a cis woman. I just want to point out and she was saying she was like, use use a lot of so mad at other trans girlies for like abiding by femininity. But like we were. How did she frame it? She was like the people who are going to have the best understanding of femininity are men. And she was arguing. Yeah. God it's I sound outright That's not what I'm saying But she was arguing She was like well Who's gonna have the best Understanding of femininity And then she's like And then who can act Out the best Why is it men Because they made The issue Like they made What femininity is Right The people that uphold That is men Right right right Because the women I grew up with Like I feel like I've fucked up my words here But the women I grew up with My mum put a bit of lipstick On maybe like When she was going out I didn't grow up With like glamorous Look at me Miss Crickin but my mom was beautiful susie's mom uh my mom was gorgeous but like and still is but i think my what i got taught was a woman wasn't like women going out and like beating their face and putting on like like the most gorgeous family dress it was girls that got on with it and worked and like just did and like working women like it was like we didn't care and don't think about looks like You just look what you look like and get on with it.
29:11That's kind of the women that I grew up with. I hope I haven't said anything out of line. I don't think so. I don't think so either. But maybe I had. That point about the woman, I'm just saying, she was saying about masculinity and she's like, well, men are the people that hold up the standards, is basically what I'm saying. So anyway, that's that. But I want to talk about influences.
29:31Tell me. If you let me. Yeah, of course. So on the night I saw that diva. That diva is a very successful diva. the one that I said oh yeah she said that everyone fancies you I went to this event we went to pick up our friend I'm not saying what event it was and if I met you that night love you and I hope you're okay but me and Bill were talking about it where and I keep seeing videos about the London creative scene and like have you seen all those yeah I have fucking bones to pick with that yeah like people being like the London creative scenes are whack I'm like bitch what are you talking about I thought you were talking about different videos I'm thinking of videos where it's like people doing like a character or an impression.
30:08Have you seen, or like the girlies, they do videos where they're like, I live in London and the creative scene's whack, you old bastard. I'm like, babe, that doesn't exist. I think if you're about your business, doing your thing, you make up a scene, but it's not a scene. As if there's a scene, there's a big scene and she's not part of it. Like we all go to this pub where, yeah. Like an Illuminati. Yeah, like we all go to this pub and like everyone knows everyone. Like everyone does know everyone, but it's not like a scene per se. Like we do straight the other, we keep to ourselves when we do straight diva like this is a soul thing like and also we like we had no mutual friends really before yeah we were before we met and like but this is thing like they're like the London creative scene so then it moved on to like the conversation I think the conversation's kind of like hit on I don't know if people have seen it but people are saying like the death of the influencer bitch it's been dead this is my original point I want to talk about we went to this room Sorry where are you?
31:06You're at an influencer event We're at an influencer event Right I'm not going to say who it is What it was And I went in there And I said No one in this room Is changing anything Right About the way that we live About the way that we do No one in this room does anything And I think This is just a bunch of people In a room Who will go to the opening of a can and live this life kind of probably might have followers or whatever look nice whatever but don't do anything and that's okay but i think gone are the days where people think that you can like do anything and i think there's a new there was a vogue article that said the death of the influencers on us and what people are now looking for are like hosts etc whereas i think don't get people misconstrued i don't think we're influencers and i know people might laugh at that listen to it I don't think we do anything influence-y.
32:00We started a podcast. We're making videos. And if we stayed making videos, maybe we would just be influencers. We've got a podcast. We're both musicians. We're doing, we host. We're DJing. We're doing like 15 sets. Well, that's six. Six different things that make us not that. We're like on the scene. We're about. And I think this influencer archetype that I think people put on people like us and some people own doesn't exist because all that is is just somebody who goes to parties. Because to... And there's this argument that's going around right now with people like millions of followers like that Jules LeBron who did the...
32:40Oh, what did she do? LeBron James. No, Jules LeBron. She's that trans girl she did. It was last year. What was everyone saying? She did the fucking New York light switch on. Respectfully or whatever it was. I'm sitting here You know what she did Demure Do you remember when that Yeah So she did Demure And she was saying She was like Very demure And she was saying Like she's got millions of followers And like she doesn't earn any money From it anymore But I'm like Because you have You're not a host Right You're an influencer Right If that makes sense Like It's changing You don't do anything Jules Robbins No shade You're a legend You did you did some cool stuff but like just getting on and doing a makeup video isn't isn't gagging the girls you need to be out on the street i don't mean like doing street interviews but i mean i'm like you need to be people who are doing things you know whilst doing funny videos am i making sense i hope i make i thought you were and but then i was surprised to hear you say doing makeup isn't enough because i feel like doing makeup like makeup is enough but then you go the makeup people i know then go out and i make parties right and they're working and like you can do videos but you're not just of course you have to do videos we all do videos we do videos still like yeah but i think the death i think people have this notion about influences that everyone gets put in i get put in now and i know you probably will as well where people are like oh like i got called an influence the other day when i was at work and i was like when have i ever i know some people probably laugh but like when have i i don't know i think it's such an interesting thing because it's like i never intended for this to be this way like i got followers yeah by working and doing a podcast and doing music and like doing fucking acting from time to time and doing like being about hosting parties like this whole thing of like an influencer and the bigger consensus of people being like this creative thing and at this event i remember hearing these two people talking and just being like but you are you're just the greatest at what you do and i just remember sitting there and thinking like bitch what do you do did you know many people there yeah i knew quite a few people okay and the i'm not talking about them uh i knew a few people there yeah but and there was some talented people there like i met a guy who's not an influencer but he does he works like the girls that were there were there who work work but i think when people don't it's when people are just models and they're just models i think for people who are just influencers how are you genuine just more of a question to influencers that don't do anything like how are you like happy just sitting there doing nothing or other than brand deals think it's wrong like it's a talent what you have is a talent but like have you not thought that your timeline is slowly ending right because it's like you look at all the girlies at love island they became influencers they have millions of followers and they can barely pull three comments on instagram yeah like it you need to do something you need to move and i think maybe it bothers me because it's like a fire under my ass i'm like shit like i need to prove to everybody that i'm work um but i think there's so many conversations about at the minute and so many people almost defending influencing but i don't believe influencing exists you're giving opportunity to people who back in the day we would not have been called back in the day influencers we would have got called hosts or djs or a duo or whatever musician isn't like pre-social media yeah but now everyone's classed as an influencer I think it's fucked all right so your definition I mean I do know what you mean but I my starting point is different because I I don't I think your definition of an influencer is basically someone on social on social media who doesn't really have a skill or a but they got followers they've got followers they're at parties right so that's kind of it's kind of vapid there's nothing beneath the followers or the audience there's no You have followers you might model from time to time.
36:36Right. Whereas my starting point is different because I, well, I wouldn't call myself an influencer because that would be fucking stupid. But I wouldn't mind being called an influencer because to me an influencer is just anyone on social media. But I do hear you that it like has this connotation of like, what do you actually do? Yeah. And I get that. Because when you first started saying it, I was like, I don't feel like influencers are dead because I class anyone on social media really as an influencer. Like I would class us as influencers. But even though, as you say, we have these kind of things that we do, I think it would just be easier to call us that.
37:18I mean, some people call it creators now. I just think it's crazy. Like even, so we've got a guest coming on next week. This week? Next week? Oh, no, it's Paul Black. Yeah, Paul Black. The Paul Black episode has just come up Paul Black isn't an influencer Like he's big online So technically he is an influencer And he does brand He's a comedian But like there would be some people that argued That Paul Black would be an influencer But he's not Like even like Say like Opia for example They're girls in the club They're like club girlies that work And they're both like actors I think I know we're technically classed as influencers and everyone yeah because you got engagement you got followers yeah but like but when does that change it's like you almost like put everybody in like this jail that everyone needs to break out of that didn't exist anyway i understand that there was a real rife movement of it from the time i was like maybe like 14 to like the time i was 20 where i was like you zoellas and whatever but even like zoella it's like she's an author she's a this she's a that but people still calling people influencers and i'm like i think it's not i'm not saying this to like stand up for the people that people are saying it's about i'm just like i think we'd need to really give a heads a wobble into like and everything's online now that i'm like are the influences and i think it's such like i don't know it's no i get it's interesting to me i'm just kind of like guys people can have their jobs online yeah like you know i don't know why everyone gets lumped together but my friend i think that but i think influencing is dead like i do think it's dead i don't think it's something well you say that and i agree i feel like i agree with you generally that like people who are kind who just have a load of followers and like aren't almost aren't real like i feel like that bubble has burst but then like i one of my uh my housemate works at like a a music venue in london and they have kind of like um he does partnerships for them so they do a lot of like brand events and uh they did one for this i think it's it they did one for asahi recently yeah and they do this very extravagant the asahi campaign is all based around the puffer fish yeah because the puffer fish is the animal of japan or something anyway so they do this like eight course dinner for influencers and it's all like raw fish and shit and i'm i i I mean that housemate who works at Coco Isn't the most like influencer minded person He's not spending that much time on social media But like It is all still like that kind of World you're talking about where it's like models or like Just Instagram people They're not really like Known For anything apart from like Either being hot Or dressing well So you say it's dead and I think like The real ones know And like if I was like If I was a brand manager for Asahi I would go like why are we spending like Thousands and thousands On a raw fish jam for influencers that will probably Like post about it and then who cares What difference does that make But like they're still getting invited To these dinners And maybe it's a weird little bubble of like Weird I think more so it's like my like There's a couple of people that I've seen with like millions Of followers being like I don't make a living off this And I think because they've gone down The influencer route and they've not actually done work yeah yeah no no i got you to say like i feel like it's like why have you got a million followers and not started a podcast or like right written a tv where's the ip but like t though like it's like i think people in my opinion just need to be smart with it like like i think i just it's a real it's real discourse that's coming up on my algorithm maybe it's just mine because i'm not interested in it but like so many people talk about like this like scene that doesn't exist or like complaining that like they've got they've worked really hard for these followers but like they have no and i remember this woman did like this amazing like thing on it where she was like but these influencers can't actually influence anyone because they're following is too big like they've not attracted a group of people that's they're not like-minded or like three million followers yeah and they get like every video like it's like a hundred thousand likes but it's just like what are you changing you're just there i have to think of like actors social media yeah it would just be my biggest it would it would just make me sick like i couldn't imagine like having like it's like those not in a rude way but it's like those girls that sound like major record deals get a bare bunch of followers and then like they get dropped from the label and just never release music again because it's just like well what do you do you have these followers and everyone's waiting for something that you can't keep up with people just watching they really like you they just think of you this is one character it's really strange because everyone that i've met like who's classed as an influencer is either like a dj or is like uh is is a successful model like and even then like models never wanted to be influencers they just had to be because they'd post their photos and it'd blow up kind of thing but it's an intro it's an interesting thing like i just think it's such like interesting discourse that everyone has these like beliefs that there is a creative scene or there is a career that is influencing and i don't believe I don't believe that that's true anymore I don't believe it's true I don't believe in influencers I don't I don't no and I hope this doesn't come across pretentious I just think it's interesting looking at the timeline of like you know like we're hashtagging Zoella and talking about that and everyone's like ha ha ha I don't think that is available to creators of today or doers of today because you have to be much more practical with what you do and people don't shell out money or a career or a life to somebody who's actually going to do niche and just talk in front of a computer all day, in my opinion.
43:04Well, bad news for us then. I don't know though, because we've got a podcast and then we host and then we go do gigs and then we write music. I think we do. I think we've come on this. We've got IP coming out our ass. No, we've just come out working. Like we're not, you could sit and make Iris Law videos all day, but you don't. You notice that you actually want to do something and like change something or like release music that moves people or like write something or make like content, longer form content that people stick with or put on nights or DJ. Do you see what I'm saying? Thank you, darling.
43:38And when you said people talk London creative discourse, I thought you were going to talk about people doing impressions of London creative. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But even that. Which is like the first moment I've ever felt like an old head because I used to make all my videos about London creatives. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I'm like, these fucking kids are coming along and doing it worse and getting way more likes than me. Well, there was that one girl that did the one about podcasting and everyone was tagging us in it because it was like London podcasts. And you look at her page and just realise that she is that person.
44:12Do you know what I mean? It's like the people that do the posh impressions and they're just posh. Right. That girl that always in my back, you girl, I'm like, oh, yourself. Like, you're just doing your own. Do you know what I mean? I don't get it and it's yeah it's tricky to do impressions on social media and like not kind of get completely fucked by it like yeah like if I did a Rory Stewart or an Iris Lohr impression just like I know but your impressions are relieved though and speaking sorry just before you go just before you move on did you see the Alfie Days thing that is it Iris? yeah yeah yeah I'm tucked up in bed now oh guys I'm so cozy or tough and bad I was like Louie needs to speak do you reckon he do you reckon he just got comments about it once and then he just kept doing it did it but the mat the mat it just went on and on me Bill were in bed watching I young girls are just going like yeah coming back down guys just like top in bed I'm all tucked up in bed you guys after a big long day and I'm about to get my chopper out for For sale.
Read the full transcript
45:21For sale. Right, Karel, what were you going to? Speaking of Rory Stewart, we go live to Rory Stewart right now, actually. As I just said, I don't want to go down the route of impressions. Because, see, I think... He had Anna Wintour on, right? They did have Anna Wintour on. Yeah. But I wanted to know if you'd seen the recent news about Mo Salah and if I could do a little... Mo Salah? Mo Salah, the wide forward for Liverpool Football Club. No, I didn't see. Has been in a little bit of drama this week And I thought I wanted to present to you Some top line briefing From the straight news of the world So Mo Salah Esteemed kind of winger for Liverpool Played there for seven years Won three Premier League Player of the Years Fan favourite Signed a new contract last season Very big money Has come into a little bit of a A run of bad form and hot water He gets dropped from the team and he was just not playing up to his.
46:21Oh, right, okay, so he wasn't playing. And then he comes out to the media and he says, I'm being thrown under the bus and I'm really unhappy with how the club treat me, which is, you know, pretty divary, pretty unprecedented for someone to be coming out just after they've been dropped. Anyway, it creates widespread controversy. people are saying how could you do this after you know liverpool are going through a hard time that you throw your players under the bus like this um and i just wanted to kind of bring it into light for you with a kind of a queer adjacent comparison which is i think this reminds me of when Lady Gaga.
47:09Fuck off. Lady Gaga. Was it the Oscars when she's walking past Leonardo DiCaprio and she's and she gets laughed at. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And she's like, fuck you. I'm still on my way. I deserve this. Even though you tell me I don't belong here, I do, bitch. And just like that, Moe Sella comes back on the weekend and gets an assist for Hugo Eccitico. Oh, fierce. Because you can't deny talent. No. So I think. Anyway that was That was something

56:14That's Nathan That's Nathan But he's Nathan's producer. I don't think I know Lewis. He's a legend. Anyway, but shout out to Lewis. And we went to no, we went to where did we go? The old shillelagh. Old shillelagh. It was lovely. Was it fucking rammoed? Yeah, it was. And then everyone from outside came inside and it was jarring. But I had a seat so I thought... Which night of the week were you there? Friday. So it was crazy. But do you know how many listeners are in there? Yeah That is a hot spot I would say I got pretty lit Did you? Babe I've been lit Like today's like the first day that I'm not drinking this week Until my birthday On Friday Yeah Come find us We'll be at a pub in East London Don't say where it is Don't say where it is You're the one that brought it up I think even that's too much East London's a big place Yeah but real That wasn't a fart by the way That was a fart It wasn't a fart I'd tell you it was a fart You fucking stinky bitch No it wasn't Why did you flinch like I was going to hit you?
57:15I don't think violence She literally, she hits me all the time I don't know We're going to a play tonight We are going to a play tonight What else do you want to talk about? Rimming I think to be honest The only thing left on my list We could talk about subway takes in London But I can't really be asked No I don't really care Also they didn't ask us to be honest Yeah exactly Fuck him The young no, I think we should just discuss This DM we got from someone which I might have to ask you sorry, okay I'm just getting the thingies up and then agony aunts. We got a question which I guess we can classes our agony Are you applied?
58:06Okay, you can read it. Yeah Do you actually want to read them now? Let's try it. Okay. I quite like you reading them, to be honest. Okay, so I'm not going to say this. It's from... Hey, Divas. I hope you are well. I thought I might as well shoot my shot here. I'm looking to move into London in the next few months and start working in the music industry. Either A &R or general admin duties for a cool and or hip label. I'm wondering if either of you would know any way or means to get a foot in the door. Lots of love, Zara. Well first off Zara if you're asking us to get your You know an interview somewhere that's not gonna Fucking happen because that's not how it works darling Yeah I don't really know how it works But you We can give you tips For getting in the music industry Or I can Yeah do a podcast with your A &R That's what I did Yeah but inadvertently you didn't know That I was an A &R Otherwise you never would have done the podcast with me But if you're looking to start working in the music industry And you want to do A &R Great So does everybody fucking else Alright But no In all seriousness Zara You should start a TikTok account And you should go to gigs And you should start posting about the artists you like And being at the gigs And thinking of an interesting way To make it good on TikTok Because that would be far more valuable than any recommendation And that is ultimately what most labels like And it's a you ultimately just want to find a way to demonstrate Your taste and your interest in your passion and that is the most and also you can just build up an account and then Half these labels will start DMing you anyway saying like hey, would you like to come to the inhaler show?
59:52And you go no they suck But that's my number one tip. Do you have any tips for we Zara try your hardest
1:00:03No, I think go to parties, go to events, go to industry events. It's a socials game. But you'll figure it out. I would say you can just start applying places. But I would say, yeah, do what you do and just start being about in the music scene, filming things. And then as soon as you start getting any followers on your TikTok, you can start emailing the artist or whatever to try and get it for free. And also I would really place emphasis On not going to big artists But mainly prioritising small artists And I'd go to a management company and just message Have you got any internships or whatever Message Message ATC Don't Well no you can Love No shade And it depends What area you're going to go into but also the old tradition of finding people that work at said labels, not just emailing the info at ninjatune.net.
1:01:08Yeah. Trying to get on Instagram and trying to – this is a stalking industry, so you could either go on LinkedIn and then try and find people who work in – It's quite easy, honestly. There's, like, spreadsheets that are up there. Really? I just have spreadsheets with people. It's like A &Rs, yeah. Really? Yeah, I literally just sit in an email. You need to get on LinkedIn or you need to get on, like, labels, Instagram accounts see who they're following and then as soon as you get into like one yeah you kind of you've kind of broken into the you're in the mothership but yeah I would also say going to gigs and actually speaking to normal people because it's important and as great as label people are there's a whole world of important and interesting people that aren't working at labels and let us know how you get on because you might need you to sign us to a label at some point yeah please joking I'm already signed Have yourself a merry little Christmas Got another Agni-Arch finish it Let you go far and wide Ready?
1:02:07Hey Sue and Lou, love yous lots I'm a northern 20 year old girly Who has just broken up with her boy After feeling just meh for a while We had a normal discussion about it And then the messages just stopped Next thing I'm getting blocked By what I thought was a friend Because she didn't like how I was Because she didn't like how I broke up with him His flatmate bought me my stuff in a carrier bag I thought we were going to be sound We have all mutual friends And he's refusing to see me All my friends in couples All my friends are in couples And I'm a 9 to 5 girl so don't This is so small So don't get out meeting people who are my age Fucking hell that is small Etc So I'm either on my own or third wheeling constantly And I'm just feeling dead lost What?
1:02:49It was her penis by the way we were talking about Yeah yeah yeah it was my penis Feeling dead lost You cannot control how somebody else takes a breakup I have Sorry can I look at the message Well you can try I've been in like Breakups where I've been like Yeah we can be friends and then like within two weeks I block them
1:03:12It's interesting I think You can't control how other people get their breakup Honestly in truth And I'm going to be so honest with you now and I hope this doesn't sound like I'm dickhead because love you and I'm so grateful you wrote in. But you in this situation can only save yourself and if you want to, and I understand that you feel trapped or whatever, but babe, third wheel. Third wheel until you can't no more because ultimately at the end of the day, like you have friends just because they're in couples. I'm in a couple. I ninth wheel a lot of the time. All of my friends are in couples. Like you third wheel with Bill, well, you'll be third wheeling tonight.
1:03:46Third wheeling ain't a thing. Third wheeling is like a stupid thing. Like if you're friends. If you feel like you're third wheeling, it might be a sign that you need to try and get some new friends. Yeah, because also, I'm not being funny, maybe you just don't like your mate's partner and that's boring. Your mate's got a shit taste. I think I'm equally friends with my friends than Billy's with them. Do you know what I mean? I think it's quite a heteronormative thing as well to have nothing in common with your friend's partner. But ultimately, I'm sorry, it is really, really peak and your friend clearly wasn't a very good friend to you because I blocked you.
1:04:17But I do think ultimately... The friend blocked her? Yeah, yeah, because they didn't like how they broke up there. But I think that essentially you just need to look after yourself. And, like, you're the only person you can say for yourself. Is there anyone from work you go out with? You could even download, like, Hinge and be like, look, I'm looking for mates. Like, do you know what I mean? Yeah. There's a way through this. For sure. Also, like, yeah, I'd reiterate, like, well, you don't go into detail on how you did the breakup. and you may have done it in an insensitive way, but also like...
1:04:52Who's to say? There's no good way to do a breakup. There's no easy way to do a breakup. By the sounds of it, you just had a normal discussion with them. So I don't know what this friend expected you to do. Even regardless, as Sue says, wouldn't worry about it too much. In regards to you feeling lost after it, all things must pass. And you'll find some new friends. that doesn't mean sit at home and expect the world to change you have to go out and get it be the change you seek but um but yeah regarding the kind of uh the deep sadness you're feeling probably at being kind of rejected by two people um that will pass just with time and with with fun and you should go out and have some fun and don't feel bad about having a nine-to-five Having a night to five is cool Being a dickhead's cool Being a dickhead's cool Is that us?
1:05:47Can we do one more? Yeah I've started finding Benson Boone attractive Advice on unlearning his behaviour Rock with it, honestly babe Yeah, what's to die for? He can do a backflip Yeah, many men can't do backflips He writes amazing music He is fit Really? Yeah It's too So obvious So obvious
1:06:16He's too squeaky clean Nah I love it squeaky clean sometimes You know I like pretty boys I like the faggot You know I like pretty boys Yeah You know what This is for the last boys Shout out to my last boys And my therapist told me Did I mention I go to therapy? No Why try and unlearn something? Why do you burn? Which is why I'm going to keep being a nonce Yeah But no, I did kind of call him out on it in a jokey way But it is true Like, don't try and change the way that you are Honestly lads, wake that up Just be more aware of like the potential shortcomings of being the way you are genuinely feel that sometimes you just gotta rock with it I've learnt all the things that I've learnt from therapy I'm just gonna rock it's so much it's so much easier yeah yeah this pursuit this pursuit of being a better person in trying to like unlearn things bitch I learnt it bitch I learnt it like I didn't want to learn it I learnt it if I think people are talking about me I do so rock with it I'm not gonna do anything about it just do what's easy do what's natural and try not to be too much of a dick to other people when you're doing it yeah alright and with that
