In short
The episode “Suns out” is a chaotic chat about British summer culture, pop-culture media economics, and whether big-name controversies should stop people from booking/consuming art. It opens with a “sun comes out = go to the boozer” rant, then shifts to Thomas Selby discussing the Peaky Blinders weekend at Butlins (dressing in “three-peat suits,” going to Bodo’s Schloss in Manchester, and joking about sex/life logistics). They also mourn The Face closing, arguing it was blindsided and critiquing how it chased youth culture too early/too art-school and became financially unsustainable versus rivals like Dazed.
Key claims/examples
The Face’s closure is linked to its parent company owning other struggling music mags; cancel culture is debated as both “horrible” and sometimes necessary; Kanye West’s festival booking is defended as “separate art/artist,” with Festival Republic CEO Melvin Benn’s anti-fascist/pro-forgiveness statement quoted. They predict Ye will sell out anyway.
Guests
Thomas Selby is the named first guest. The episode also includes recurring co-hosts and a surprise caller, Joe, plus later a long segment featuring Kate King (discussed as a viral Buckinghamshire YouTuber returning after three years).

1:30So, welcome to our first guest of the year, Thomas Selby. Afternoon, Mr. Shelby. Have you seen it? Have you seen it? No. Oh my God, it's so good. Really? Yeah. Me and my friends, what we like to do is me and my friends and our girlfriends, we like to dress up and go to the Peaky Blinders weekend at Butlins and we like to dress up in our three-peat suits from Atalan. We like to go to Bodo's Schloss in Deansgate, Manchester. And everyone's in their flat peaks. My boyfriend gets an undercut. And then I fucking give him head in the toilet.
2:06And I'm back to the dental surgery on Monday.
2:15You alright? Yeah, you alright? You alright, chicken? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Rest in peace the face. Sorry we didn't say that last week. Yeah, rest in peace the face, but that's what you get for not hiring us. Rest in peace the face. Bye. Who's going to post about fake mink now? I just think that they didn't know it was coming. Because the covers, the covers, Audrey Hobart is one of your last covers. Like, love Audrey Hobart, but like, wouldn't you go out swinging like Kendall Kylie type teams? I really feel like they didn't know it was closing. Wow. T for T hate, huh? Yeah. Okay. I love Audrey Hobart.
2:45No, just come for Audrey Hobart. Turn your face closing into a thing about Audrey fucking Hobart. everyone's like we're gonna close everyone's like oh my god i can't believe it's closing i'm like it's closed before like i can yeah it's closed before yeah it's music journalism it's closed before girl i think i think you're right i think they were blindsided though i think they were blindsided i think also love the face and like i know a few people at the face and i love you very much but i think the face is really good at reporting youth culture but i think does it to the point of its like own detriment where it's like hear this soundcloud rapper with 300 followers and it's like okay like like is that youth culture like i feel like they try and get the culture before it's a culture because they're really cool and then now they don't make any money i think that's how i saw the face i'm sorry uh yeah i mean i think my problem with it is it's a bit too um it's a bit too similar to dazed i guess in a way i think dazed are really good to socials i think that's where dazed finds its light is like the reporting on dazed socials is like second to none i think not just because we love the girls at dazed but i think their social media of like reporting they don't just report the fashion show they report backstage at the fashion show and then they report certain person walking that show and then they report interview with someone at the show and you know i feel like dazed is really on the floor these days and actually think dazed socials are the best of any magazine i think the face is like they're good but i feel like they're slightly um i feel like good at what they're doing but i don't like watch them that much yeah well i think they've i think they've nailed like nine like eight second clip with gabriette and like she's saying something like exactly i think they're good at getting what people want i i whereas i feel like with the face it was a bit more serious but also incredibly unserious i feel that the best people worked at the face but it was the best people doing something different which i don't which is great but i think the face it's a shame is all i'm gonna say it's a shame i think the faces are on the face was like the faces for like the really different girls do you know what i mean insufferably different in this climate maybe i feel like there's not much of a like a subculture anymore i feel like everyone's so different and they'll be trying to report on yeah like i said like this random models the cover who has like 300 followers it's just like okay like okay okay i think my problem with it was that it was a bit too art school for me yeah and art school in in not yeah in the in the negative sense of the word that it's a bit it's a bit aesthetic and it's a bit posh and it feel it felt slightly monolithic monocultural at times and that it was just kind of yeah a slightly one-dimensional yeah i like love the face it's closing down again it's kind of not surprising because it's already closed down once so i don't get when everyone's like i can't believe this it's like it's literally already happened before that being said i do feel like sort of similarly to how maybe people are treating snl right now it's that like it's some people like are like some people think it's really good some people think it's kind of there are good bits and that it's like and then some people some people think it's terrible then some people think it's bad but like it's a good thing to have and like you got to give it a chance yeah i guess it was refreshing i remember when like it first came back and it was like doing all the cover and stuff i do think that there's been many amazing covers i think they're caught as a star cover i always remember um and so i think it has done amazing stuff i knew though basically there was a tiktok that came out the week before it closed saying news that one of the big um publications closing and i immediately knew it was the face do you know what i mean i can't i can't explain how i knew that and i didn't know before i found out when everyone else found out but i think i i knew it was the face before anything yeah do you know what i mean no for sure but apparently like apparently they were blindside because the the the company that owns the face is also the company that owns like kerrang and another kind of dead really old one sorry no shade to kerrang no yeah but like enemy or something um i mean even enemy like that's one of those magazines that can just because that had all that backlash when i'm gonna name them even though we follow each other in scramble picture parlor got the cover and pick no one knew who picture parlor was and everyone's like oh so you can just pay for covers now well yeah enemy i guess is like all most music journalism publications it's just like struggling a lot and finding ways to like make money make money and like with a lot of magazines that's like through brand work and I guess that's what the face did but who knows who knows what the fuck went wrong rest in peace to the face we joke around but it's sad to see you go great people though America Core Band Leia that's about it well done you two love you um did you see the festival republic uh apology for um sorry not apology statement about buck and kanye west for a while i saw that pepsi pulled out um pepsi have pulled out which pepsi wouldn't have pulled out unless there was backlash pepsi didn't immediately pull out they knew that i was coming for months like they've only pulled out because everyone's kicked off but i didn't see that they've replied right so can i just i really also i was this back to the pod last week and i really i think people thought we're going to make more of a statement about kenya playing but i actually it sounds really bad but i think when someone's done such like weird fucking insulting shit it's kind of like i don't even want to comment yeah i don't want to contribute to the algorithm because it's just like because it's just feeding obvious isn't it like you know how we feel about right right right go no i was i felt like we did it justice it was like short but sweet and yet here we are oh i know back into it i know that they've doubled down i heard that they doubled down back on it but they know they're gonna sell it out this is the thing it's like that thing of like evil it's like well when they know they're gonna they'll sell out immediately so for context festival republic is the promotions company that is doing or runs wireless.
9:24And this is a statement from their CEO? Melvin Benn, Managing Director of Festival Republic. I'm a deeply committed anti-fascist and have been all my adult life. I lived on a kibbutz for many months in the 1970s that was attacked on October 7th. I'm pro-Jew in the Jewish state while being equally committed to a Palestinian state. Having had a person in my life for the last 15 years who suffers from mental illness, blah, blah, blah. What Yeh said about the past and said in the past about Jews and Hitler is as abhorrent to me as it is to the Jewish community, the Prime Ministers and others that have commented, taking him at his word.
9:57Ye's music is played on commercial radio stations in this country. It is available via live streams and downloads without comment or vitriol. He is intended to come in and perform. We are not giving him a platform of whatever nature, only to perform the songs that are currently played on the radio station. Forgiveness and giving people a second chance of becoming a lost virtue in this ever increasing divisive world. and I would ask people to reflect on that instant comments I've discussed at the likelihood of him performing as was mine and offer some forgiveness and hope um he said that he wanted Jews to die he said he was a Nazi he said Heil Hitler like a year ago yeah um I'm all for you know free speech but you saying feels a bit crazy you saying you lived on a kibbutz for many months is giving like i have friends who are black um a kibbutz is like a is a jewish settlement okay i just think if i was yeah a unique israeli collective community i think if it was me i wouldn't book and but then also like but then his statement about forgiveness will always stand with for i do believe that we over the past years i think it's circling back but i do think like cancel culture is is crazy the devil i think it's horrible and i think ultimately you can have forgiveness but i think that was an amount immense thing of privilege that perhaps kanye had where like he's got shit loads of money so he felt like he could say that stuff and then actually now people have been like actually no you can't say that that's insulting and rude and i'm all for redemption i just feel like there's the i just feel like sometimes does that i don't think he's really had any time to properly but ultimately the gag is people are still going to see it do you know what i mean so like we can debate this all we want we're not gonna go but ultimately like it'll sell out in seconds and like he's doing shows he's touring right now lauren hill just came out with him and like and um north's come out as well and if they're sold out shows like it is that thing it's the thing with power just as much as it is with the world right now of like people just taking countries and be like we're having that and everyone just has to be like okay like it's this weird it's so wrong but like it is that thing it's like power ultimately has gone so big and money power corrupts absolutely well yeah it's but it is like the whole thing's corrupt like ultimately i don't think 10 years ago you would have got booked again but ultimately they know they're going to sell it out and they know that next year they'll come back with a different wireless lineup and everyone will forget like it's how the world works now people don't and like that's not me saying like that's correct i'm just saying that like that's it's like i i find it like the world's changed from when i feel like i was in my teens like whereas like someone would do something wrong and people would hold them to it now it's yeah now you can do something wrong and just like study and play come together on a windows 11 pc And for a limited time, college students get the best of both worlds.

16:54so I think how are you I'm good let's take let's take a break from the pop culture I feel really really it's not that I feel tired I've been very ADHD over the past couple days I also do think that it is drinking Bill's back in town which is lovely to have my wife wife back but ultimately like we've been going out we've seen people drinking a lot um he took me out for dinner last night um yeah so we got quite we only went to um elliott's in hackney don't know it's next to donny's oh it was lovely so we've had we've had like i've had such a lovely time but i am like a bit done out like just yeah really adhd like i would really like my meds now i'm still waiting for my referral well i got my referral i'm still waiting for my appointment how are you good yeah uh over the weekend i didn't thank god thank the lord thank the lord um needed to keep it humble still have a few pints yeah yeah um but didn't didn't go crazy as it were and um i was telling you off air because we do have somewhat of a relationship um and you're already yawning again um that i feel like i've turned a corner um you know when you just kind of you've been in a lull maybe motivation wise and then you have that sort of that one moment where you've where you rediscover your willpower yeah um and that for me was a run yes um which is embarrassing to say but no but it is true but you know it felt so good when you kind of um you just immediately know that you're like oh okay now i have the motivation to do all this thing it's like kind of from the jaws of despair yeah from the brink of defeat you know you you've you've uh you've gone against all odds it's like you know oh it's like bussing a nut like when you've like when you've like had you like three pumps or like you know and you've you took a pill swipes you there you took a pill the day before you're on antidepressants yeah and against all odds you've you still do it you've still ejaculated.
19:01Yeah. That's kind of how it felt. I feel similar. Like I'm like, I'm definitely coming. I feel like something good's coming. I'm getting loads of angel numbers at the minute. And I also feel we started doing now in the morning instead of a cup of tea in the morning, we do a smoothie to get, and what do you put in your smoothie? Today I put spinach, berries, mixed berries, blueberries, pineapple, ginger, a bit of lemon, spirulina, hemp. What actually is spirulina? fuck knows it's like an ancient thing that like is good for vitamins b and a okay um and then i do we do pea protein unflavored because that's gross um because then and then we do the final one is oh carotene creatine creatine that's what i meant uh her beautiful name for baby girl and um and yeah so then we do that but it's been fucking me up because i think i'm drinking the night before I wake up in the morning and have this thing babe movements just shit myself agree a green juice won't save your soul so no babe no no but like you have it and then you're like oh my god I feel healthy and then for like an hour later you're just like I'm gonna check myself every two minutes people will not sleep all weekend and then have a green juice on that's me and think like oh this will fix the void in my soul now that the sun's out I've noticed that like over the past couple of weeks it started to be like oh i remembered how much like i drink do you know what i mean and like how much like we all kind of like drink and i'm like oh my god like summer was last year like it teeters on alcoholism it's drunk every night i mean and at the minute it is like what drank sat friday night saturday night sunday night well as soon as the sun today it's just today i'm going to wine tasting oh i know like wine tasting yeah who the fuck do you think you are what's bill and our friends you're from derbyshire you're not allowed to every day i wake up that's how my brain sounds every day i wake up in this lovely home and then i'm like next to my boyfriend who's lovely and kind then i go out and then i wake up and realize that like all i do is music all day and do a podcast and all all throughout that whole experience i've got someone on my head going who the fuck do you think you are yeah sorry to kind of contribute to your imposter syndrome.
21:19No, that's okay. Probably have OCD, but... What else am I here to do? Yeah. Than contribute to your imposter syndrome. And I've got to get my ball checked later because I've got my scan later. I'm pregnant. I've got my ball scan later, which I'm just dreading and I wanted to cancel so bad, but I told Bill about it because I wasn't going to tell anyone and just cancel it. And then I actually do have to. You've got... You need to check your problem with your balls. So I've got a lump and then the doctor said, I don't think it's anything, but you should go for a scan and now I've got a scan today.
21:47what kind of scan are we doing uh uh ultraviolet yeah ultraviolet ultrasound um but i am i just hate it it's just like it's literally fine i know what it is they're called var voracule stuff like that um basically it's bad if you want to like get people pregnant but i don't thank god it can like basically make you less fertile okay but a lot of people have them when i first started talking about mobile getting a lot of dms i was getting a lot of dms yeah lovely lovely listeners i think it's that and then sometimes it goes it like increases when i'm having lots of sex which was basically me and sky which is why i think it like sexy sky sexy sky well you were there but when louis came i was in like the full like bull aching how much did you shag while i was there uh while she was there i don't think we actually did is that why you were starting to resent me by the end because i was like just leave i'm trying to get a knot yeah yeah no it does suck when you're on like a uh a friend's holiday with a boyfriend or girlfriend or partner not at all no no no because you're like when can we shag like having to host this very like separate rooms i feel like it was very much like yeah but it's quite often like if we don't shag first thing in the morning or last thing at night like this is tough to squeeze in yeah but that didn't cross my mind stop worrying about making me feel bad I know you were shagging enough yeah that's okay yeah I'm just asking when you fit to the situation now my ball is currently down so then they'll be like scanning it just look like I've enjoyed getting my ball scanned but I don't because it's so mortified I've asked Bill to come with me just so we can stand there and watch me get my ball scanned he's so nice I know he's got a cute little like Matty Healy haircut going on.
23:38And how are you darling? Good. I've got a white head on my pubes. But now the white head's popped so I'm worried it now kind of looks like it could be herpes. Have you Googled what herpes looks like? No. I don't think it's a white head. Should we do it now? Yeah. Genital herpes. Have you shagged someone with herpes? Ugh! Okay it really doesn't look like that. y 'all are nasty close tab i think herpes is okay a lot of people have herpes herpes really isn't okay is it it's like you can't get rid of it yeah you can't get rid of it but because of that a lot of people have it a lot of my friends have it yeah but your friends are rank they're not they just be fucking people have herpes it's fine and then it goes down for years and years and years do not think herpes is fine okay no but like if you get herpes i'm ending the stigma like it's okay to live with herpes you're gonna this is your issue that you're gonna like i'm not saying go out and you're gonna become a herpes activist yeah actually i fucking am because i don't want anyone listening at home having shame that they have herpes if you call herpes it's one not your fault and two fine because ultimately you can live with herpes a very nice and lush and successful life with a very variant and beautiful sex life yeah so some people pick like kind of liberation movements for sort of um countries or like testicular cancer or and you shouldn't be ashamed of checking your testicles either and you're choosing herpes you're going to become a herpes influencer yeah i think no but i think there's no shame so i think that herpes influencer yeah so i think that herpes is absolutely fine if you end up getting herpes it's not your fault and like you can move and shake with it it's a very normal thing to have and a lot of the time it's not even flared up it's only like discomforting when it's like flared up but it's very fine to live with there's multiple different types of perpies though really proud of you thanks i was thinking the other day stigma girl if i started taking uh manjaro yeah i could become a manjaro influence i want to take manjaro yeah i mean we're probably gonna get in trouble for this because um but i'm not gonna do it no i'm not gonna do it because i'm too scared of everyone saying it's like eating though the way everyone else yeah that's the thing i just like when people on monjaro come around my house and i cook them dinner and i just want a little bit leave go home yeah go home yeah i'm an eater yeah yeah real talk um no i'm i would 100 take it if i didn't have to tell anyone and it wasn't noticeable but yeah but the uh the social backlash i know so many people on it i know so many thin people on it as well it's like no more than people on it it's like i hear people talk about someone on a zempick or something and it's like yeah and they're on a zempick like as in a list of kind of really bad things about a person i'm like what what are we doing here i get that it's the people i hear on it i'm like oh god like they'll die because they're so thin and i get it's a sort of you know uh vain aesthetic thing i feel like for women often it's and it's a different thing because aesthetic changes can be like seen as anti-feminist that whole thing guys that being said guys it's not anti-masculine to fucking be snatched yeah just becoming a lux maxer just louis bluey the lux maxer i could babe have you been um have you been keeping up to date with woe vicular no but i saw the three trans women came up and said that they're like they beat him at lux maxing oh really did she that no but having oh with woe vicky woe vicky and clav yeah yeah it's like flirting they're they've done streams together there's sparks flying i love over key she's stupid she is brilliant and it's and it reminded i was like why is whoa vicky famous and like we're about for time but where has she been like i feel like i haven't seen her she's looking amazing she looks fab she's just a bit of legend i can't believe that she's still got a career like i didn't think that she would make money from it but america influences are completely different like how has she got money i don't think she does but which clearly she does.
27:44Well, apparently she stream alone. I don't know. Apparently she, I was looking up why she got, Hey, sorry, I didn't mean to kick you in for listeners. Sue's playing footsie with me. I didn't mean to do that. Um, apparently she's from a like well-off middle-class area in Atlanta. Okay. Um, she got famous for black fishing. I don't know why I'm putting that in first commas. Black fishing. Um, and another reason i realized she's made for clav is because she um very uh casually uses the n-word oh so they're really made for each other fuck her then yeah she um i just remember like people beating her up on twitter it's that awful um she's been around for time like girls fighting her and stuff it's just such a funny world and she'd hang around with lil tay right is Lil Tay dead?
28:36oh my god Lil Tay but Lil Tay was a publicity stunt Lil Tay was the like young Asian yeah and then she tried to come back like high fashion vibes but she is when you you know when you trying to check if someone's still alive and you just you just see on Wikipedia and you're just searching for the is or the was is yeah or was yeah no she's still alive they said Sue I think was a clapped washed up whore aww Joe's calling me but I'm gonna have to answer in a sec bye Joe Joe Joe will listen to this. 32:00Oh, a few ciggies You? Desire I Want to Turn Into by Caroline Polachek Oh, music wise? No Charlie XCX Yeah True Romance And Robin, Honey What else would I take into space? 35:35Okay. It's time. I don't know what it is that makes me love you so. Going to Costa Coffee. Medium and extra hot. with two sugars on the top have a lovely day she's back from outer space three years later i honestly we were at easter with the family we were at easter with the family and i saw it um looking for luis shared it and i thought no this can't be real went on so i started sharing it be like oh my god she's back she's back she's back i got up went up to joe who was just on the phone and i said joe kate king's back and she thought i was joking so she laughed she was like haha now i said no joe she has risen it was easter joe was like you're joking me and joe scream run upstairs to the upstairs tv and watch it we were laughing crying so proud to be back the fact that she called it a taste test and only tasted one and just spoke about the sweets of 13 minutes she is back i like how she said i won't leave it three years this time i like how eval walked in and said that she was rabbiting on like eva still play playing the panto like it was still rabbiting yeah it's so bad like it's so good like i thought oh my god maybe she's moved out it's been three years and one thing i want to say about kate king and like clip this if if we do a video on it the one thing is i know because the producer came forward a producer went to the kings to ask them for a a documentary they said no costa coffee reached out to the kings for like sponsorship or whatever and like a club they said no and the thing that makes her come back after three years is a bag of sweets there's a free bag of sweets and i just think that is the exact type of on the ground like exactly so exactly like on the ground love and i think the reason i've not been that excited for something since brad came out like i was genuinely shaking i couldn't believe it like so excited i think she's like a breath of fresh air in this world where it's like an unedited wonderful girl who's just like not clearly not there for the money and it's just that oh get off get her off to the table
37:50an unedited beautiful lovely girl who's just there because she enjoys doing things i just think it's absolutely phenomenal yeah she's a fucking costa coming chasing her and jimskins fucking begging yeah and like and she just says no because she can't i just think that like i think there's something so beautiful about that we're like we're we're in a world where like people are online to like make careers or like try and get things or get different brand collabs like do you know what i mean and she's just there because she genuinely enjoys it and she says no to things but a free bag of sweets and i just think that is amazing i just i love her so much and i really hope people are fucking nice to her this time because i was there three years ago i was there four or five years ago we used to sit in and watch her on youtube before she was like such a big viral sensation because she got bigger when she went away and everyone now loves her and i'm like you don't know it was retrospective I was there yeah for three years people she's blue it was like it was like Rodriguez I was but I was there when she was posting I was posthumous yeah I loved her so I've always loved her we were actually gonna go you were there when it was happening when she was live yeah but she became properly viral yeah in the past three years of like fan accounts but we were gonna go to a Christmas market that she was gonna do three years ago and I regret not going so much like I'm such a fan I'm such fun well she's Can I just say, it's so nice to see you so passionate about something.
39:08I love her so much. Because I was worried that passion was lost a long, long time ago. No, no, it's back. As soon as you moved to London Fields. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's really nice to see the light in you. It's just so nice. Random Swede. I hope we get shopping hauls again. I hope we just get day-to-day life. Before I give my thoughts on the video, could you just explain to anyone who doesn't know who Kate King is? Kate King is a girl from Buckinghamshire, Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire. The word cloud behind her. Yeah, the word cloud. It tells her where she is. But she's a now 24-year-old girl who is wonderful and kind.
39:44She lives with her mum and dad. She used to live with her granddad, but unfortunately he passed. And she lives, and she just does like day-to-day reviews. But like I said, originally she does it because she loves it and she does it because she wants to do it. And she's just like, it's just day-to-day stuff really. she just has a very fun life she's got a radio show on hospital radio at like 3pm or 1pm and she goes to Bowls Club and she just tries and she's just great she's a real go-getter and I think it's very she's an excellent orator she's up there with Timothee Chalamet she reminds me of Zoe Ball whenever she gets shady with people she's like be a love so good she's amazing she's got a beautiful way of language so obviously i have heard you talk about kate king before and i don't really know who she is but and i watched this uh 13 minute um sour comments are amazing yeah the comments very very very she has risen she has risen because she returned on easter sunday on easter sunday which who knows how intentional that was and also how long will it be till we get another video i reckon it could be like six months i think she could just dip out again oh no she wouldn't i don't trust that she might stay i don't think it'll be three years but i think she she's on her own time arcade which is really lovely yeah before she she was on a bit of a she was on like new videos every whatever she'd get annoyed when people would be like when are you uploading she was like i tell you yeah she's so good i was trying to think like stoke mandeville hospital radio that's what she's on thank you so much okay i was trying to think like what what would be the equivalent for me of kate king coming out of retirement and like i all i could come up with was like um Corsica Studios reopening yeah um or uh Jurgen Klopp coming back to Liverpool yeah or McGee releasing a second album yeah um and they're not quite as um fun or endearing as Kate as our Kate okay and my favorite go you sure yeah just gonna keep going on about our Lord and Savior all I was going to say is my favorite thing about the whole video was how in the Aylesbury word cloud behind her one of the associated words was Benjamin Disraeli who is one of the fathers of progressive conservatism oh really he's you know what as Tories go to not the worst he was all about paternalism which meant like looking after the poor the only problem with it was that it was sort of like while it was welfare it was on there someone else's terms it was it was let's give to the poor let's look after the poor but let's not give them a chance to elevate themselves oh okay let them stay poor yeah um but the ale for anyone if you're a kate king fan or not uh it's worth watching i mean it's worth watching because it's great but it's also worth watching because the Aylesbury word cloud behind it has got some real gems.
42:51What were you going to say? I can't really remember now but she is also, she came out that she might not be straight too and I think that's really lovely. Oh wow. She's really lovely. Okay. I just love her so much. I love her so much. She's been fucking the bean. Maybe. But yeah, she's just a really kind person. It was nice to hear that she's got a best friend and yeah, it's really great. She seemed very chipper as well. Yeah, really good. So she stopped because... People were being fucking mean. Like, they were being really mean. And I think people started like... And she was like, well, fuck this.
43:23Like, I deserve better than this. And she's right, she does. But I think now people actually just like... Do you know, almost like Jalal. It's kind of like the same with Jalal where people at the start were taking the piss and now everyone's like, oh no, I actually want them to win so bad, you know? It's a fine, fine line. It's such a strange place where you go through like being loved to immediately being like absolutely despised, being called a creature and then you surpass that if you just carry on through it it's almost like i think especially in britain i think it's such like a thing it's like i think if you can take if you can hack the like the public beating that everyone's going to give you in the end you like get through it kind of thing for sure crazy but i'm a convert i will be i subscribed and i'll be eagerly awaiting her next step it felt very calming as well it felt like something i could fall asleep to everybody a la um outdoor boys yeah yeah um did you end up going to vista village i did go to vista village louis tell me all about vista village because vista village is a place that i have long been very confused so i we go to vista village because we thought it'd be funny we originally were meant to go to the beach he invited you invited loran isle and then i was having easter lunch with my dad before anyone comes for me that's okay and then we were like fuck it we're not gonna go to the beach and then i was like lor wouldn't it be funny if you go to pista village and bill was like oh my god that would be so funny because um because why not spend some money fuck it you know i mean i don't have that much money but fuck it we went and i was like he was like what do you want i was like i'd like some sunglasses so we go and we're going through all of the things so there's everything there from stone island prada louverton mcqueen westwood whatever but i went to the sunglasses i got two pairs of ray-bans which were because i wanted like a wearable glasser um but i ended up getting like a big fat fuck off asap rocky club ray buns a new asap rocky okay which are massive which are just like rave glasses but fuck it i bought them and then i got another pair of like ones that you'd wear with jeans kind of thing so i'm very happy with my purchases and then we continued on and bill thought he was going to get some from stone island we ended up he ended up not the fit wasn't amazing but a lot of the stuff like we'd like you know a lot of the stuff with designers off is like you'll feel the quality like it's actually not that yeah amazing um but yeah love and then my beautiful boyfriend bill bought me a dyson air wrap because i've been going on about one for like maybe years it's got the hairdryer hairdryer yeah but it's got six different things like curl straightens whatever yeah diffusers and so i've been going on about one for ages and he was like i know dyson's here so he took me to dyson and bought me one which was very lovely babes took me to Bista Village got me a Dyson air dryer they're like 300 quid and you've been parading that hair around well this is natural this is just diffused but I've been straightening my hair which has been quite nice because it's quite cunty it looks fantastic thank you but Christina's come around and Angel's come around to teach me how to do a bouncy blowout you already know how to do a bouncy blowout yeah trust me but yeah so my beautiful boyfriend bought me this because he's very kind and lovely so to me i've always thought that bista village like you know when people describe like sort of an ai dystopia yeah i'm like we don't need to imagine it it's like it's right here you're not gonna get like there was like cues for like gucci and stuff and like you can kind of go by the bags i really don't believe that like designer bags you should buy designer bags unless they are like leather in my opinion because i think a plastic bag is a plastic bag you want you want a cow to die for it to be no no but like you want something to like last whereas like i think there's so much designer stuff at the minute where you look in it look at it and you're just like fuck like that's just i'm not saying that about gucci i think you just got some beautiful bags but like i don't know i think going to bistie you're like you want to go with a bit of money but ultimately going around i'm so unmoved by clothes i really do think i have a uniform and i want to like basically i think me and bill both in a place where it's like i want to get like my classic uniform stuff but like get like really good stuff like upgrade like a birkin yeah like a birkin no but like uh you know i like this caperni shirt i wear this to death so it's like well maybe get three more caperni shirts which are more expensive than three plain white t-shirts from like uniclo for example i like these and they do last longer because they're really thick so do you know what i mean just doing stuff like that get myself like a nice new bomber i feel myself doing the same thing i feel like i naturally do that quite a lot i wear the same thing yeah i'll find an outfit so much stuff and then wear it for three months and we're trying to throw it down exactly but we're trying to like throw stuff like how i i'm a low cut i'm a low rise jean with a boxer sticking out and a small t-shirt and a bomber that's literally my uniform it works but like ultimately like because of that i have so many clothes that i literally just don't wear like i don't like the these acne jeans i got a solo pack and car boot by our diva from diesel jeans like they're just like i don't wear them like i tried to wear them the other day and i was i literally don't wear these i can take them off and like shoes for example like those shoes didn't wear you have them like i just like i've got so much shit that like i actually don't need so i think vintage straight diva vintage i because i need to do this as well oh really straight diva vintage sale okay maybe i don't be for um i got vans that i've never worn for the genital herpes association yeah yeah for sure raising money for people with genital herpes don't get louis started on his verrucas bazooka that verruca bazooka that wart i know why wake up um um vista village to me is like like the truman the truman show almost like home counties truman show yeah like it's like it like looks like it doesn't look real it looks like a toy town yeah but it feels like that but like do people live in vista village or is it exclusively like a shopping village but like it's a shopping village yeah it's not and is there vista and them as Vista Village.
49:02Yes, yes, yes. Okay. It's fine. Like, it's fine. It's not like the best thing you'll ever go to. What's the clientele like? As you expect, like basic people that probably work like decent jobs and just like go and buy a Gucci bag for thrills. A lot of boys, a lot of awful boys in Montclair just looking like you all look dreadful. Like you're wearing people like Montclair like must be like know that like, you know, they're being kept alive by these boys that just don't know how to dress and they'll just find these massive coats looking dreadful. I don't know. I could get a Montclair. No, Montclair's amazing, but like the boys that dress in them just look dreadful.
49:35Like they just accessorise them wrong. They wear like these like ugly shoes. Like it's crazy. I don't know. Montclair's skinny jeans, white jeans. Is it working for you? No. Is it working for you? Kind of. A little bit. You're dirty. And some just cheeky house some Chris Stussie. No, no, no, no, no, no. Yeah. Bista Village reminds me of The City Planners by Margaret Atwood if you ever had to do that poem for English GCC. I do know exactly what you mean. Like dark suburbia. Yeah. It is that though. Everything kind of sanitized. And also as well, like it is the thing that are on discount. So it's also like not the best of the best.
50:09Like you might as well just, if you're going to spend money, you might as well just go to the actual store in London. Or just buy it secondhand. Well, I think that's also where I was, where I was like, especially with bags. I'm like, you can buy brand new bags that people just didn't wear. But then I guess if people want new collection. Want the new collection? Sophie just wants to show herself licking herself out. Um, so. Come here. So.
50:59Chronic migraine. 15 or more headache days a month, each lasting four hours or more, can make me feel like a spectator in my own life. Botox, onabotulinum toxin A, prevents headaches in adults with chronic migraine. It's not for those with 14 or fewer headache days a month. It's the number one prescribed branded chronic migraine preventive treatment. Prescription Botox is injected by your doctor. Effects of Botox may spread hours to weeks after injection causing serious symptoms. Allerge your doctor right away as difficulty swallowing, speaking, breathing, eye problems, or muscle weakness can be signs of a life-threatening condition.
51:29Patients with these conditions before injection are at highest risk. Side effects may include allergic reactions, neck and injection site pain, fatigue, and headache. Allergic reactions can include rash, welts, asthma symptoms, and dizziness. Don't receive Botox if there's a skin infection. Tell your doctor your medical history, muscle or nerve conditions, including ALS Lou Gehrig's disease, myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome, and medications, including botulinum toxins, as these may increase the risk of serious side effects. Why wait? Ask your doctor, visit BotoxChronicMigraine.com or call 1-800-44-BOTOX to learn more.
52:00Okay, we have a user submitted question. Ladies and gentlemen, if you want to submit a question to the podcast that isn't about your fucking stupid love life, but just something you want us to answer, you can DM us or you could email us. Our email's in our Instagram bio, isn't it? straight diva with two a's gmail.com um luke who is from our uh whatsapp community and shout out to the new people that joined the whatsapp community hello um hello we may have some exclusive uh episodes dropping on there in future weeks that may or may not involve um me and sue uh doing therapy with each other oh yeah um anyway luke asks something a friend and i discuss is how playlists have made music discovery different or a load of bollocks the last few years what do we think have they are they overhyped or is there still something to be said for them so i have two feelings on this the first one being that i think playlists are useful i think i'm really grateful for spotify and apple who continually put my music in playlists and i'm like super grateful i am so grateful to the overlord spotify and apple our lord and savior i am but what i will say also is i feel like since covid they haven't had the same back in the day i know people that would like get on like one of the indie playlists and get like 200 000 streams like immediately i don't or they get new music friday and they have like 100 000 streams it doesn't work like that anymore i feel like you can get playlisted and then the average you're about to get like 40 000 streams kind of thing whereas i think what actually earns people streams now is unfortunately like tiktok and instagram and like creating hype around your music or being out gigging every night like i think there's only two ways now to do it i think you either need to make it through instagram because you can get on every every playlist i hit me then for example got on a shit ton of playlists i felt um on both apple and spotify uh and it's like most stream on spotify is like 40 000 and i have like beautiful like regular listeners but i don't think i think the power isn't necessarily with playlists anymore unless unless you're already like an artist who's i think it really helps when you've already got like a bunch of people listening it really helps but i think getting yourself on the ladder is not saying it doesn't do much because it absolutely does and puts people on but i think i think you need to build the hype yourself yeah whereas i think back in the day you could have gotten like an indie playlist and got like a hundred thousand streams but even then it doesn't necessarily speaking from an artist's perspective doesn't necessarily translate to like fans or like ticket sales like when yeah like no 100 % like you want to you want to make sure there's people on the floor artists who have got maybe a playlist from like the the glory days as you put it and they were in a big indie playlist and it got them shit loads of streams and it doesn't necessarily mean people are going to come to their gig even the people are going to follow you on instagram well but then that was also the thing you're right and like i've seen many there's an artist i've been obsessed with called pinch p-y-n-c-h like an indie band they just do like they do like george and stuff still and they had a song called someone else i don't listen to that i only listened to that song but that was on a playlist a big playlist and has loads of streams but like them as a band like they're not doing no offense pinch but like they're not doing the best whereas like you'd see that song on all the playlists you're like oh my god like it's just a banger but yeah it is that thing and i know multiple people that have been on the playlist but wouldn't be able to sell out like a hundred cat venue do you know what i mean like no for sure and i i when i worked at a record label it was like and this is only three years ago or two years ago the um the amount of money and the amount of attention and the amount of like faith put in getting a song into spotify playlists was like this is the this is what make or doesn't make a track and then as we have both seen since getting our music in editorial playlists on spotify it's like unless it's new music friday it's like it's really not that many like there are many like spotify kind of like indie alternative british playlists that like my playlist has a bigger listenership on like yeah um on a week-to-week basis so it really doesn't necessarily and then the other thing with new music friday is is that like i don't know like for us for example if we get put in new music friday like we're probably going to be somewhere near the bottom right yeah um but we're really great from we love you and you still get a huge like i remember that's life got put in new music friday yeah and i think it got like 2 000 streams from it in week one yeah which is still it was like fifth bottom yeah but the other thing is is that like the the main route to success on spotify is if you get in like algorithmic playlists.
56:46Well, that's also the thing where it's like you want to be on the radios and you want to be in the algorithm where people are really listening to you. Which is all determined from your listenership. Popularity score of a song. Which then goes back to like the thousand true fans theory, I think. Where it's still, if you can get a thousand true fans by doing loads of gigs and getting people hyped up and listening to your stuff. I think an artist that's done that really well is Dove Ellis. I think he was really, really good at, well, he was on Bandcamp. He wasn't even on Spotify for ages. like i think he and just just gigged about is incredibly talented and like just got his name out there so much that there was so much hype around him that when he did go on spotify it was like a media algorithmically like in every yeah both name on everyone's lips both to sort of fans and people who go to gigs like those venues but also industry people like yeah immediately know there's like something worth investing in because for sure because there's all this ground swell as they would put it yeah but like yeah the thing about getting put in editorial playlists is that like new music friday for example um spotify success is like down to algorithmic playlists right which is determined by your popularity score not to get too techie right now music industry podcast but your popularity score is determined by like how how many times how many streams per listener so like how many times people actually come back to your song and re-listen to it yeah and i think that's mainly and the save rate yeah if you're exposed to an audience as large as new music friday as soon as your song comes out that's not going to do good for your like the performance of the song because it's not it's immediately being exposed to like the biggest audience possible the better thing as an artist is to like get the most micro amount of people first from social media who are like like fuck with your track fuck with you so much that they're going to rinse your song yeah yeah and then build from there and then you get and discover i think that's the place you want to be so i just think the the base note is you need to either make i remember speaking to like a and r's and like the things a and r's look for is either someone to have a massive following alone without music or like a known like cult following without music or they want you to have like an extremely big streaming thing like there's like that it's very rare that you get the people signing that have both of that that's me to one A &R that was like you either want to sign like an influencer that has so much reach that like you can easily turn this down to music or you want to sign a smaller musician who has like you said like the groundswell to then like take the actual people that are listening to them and like try and build that I feel like there's no they're completely different ends of the spectrum but I feel like they're both they can work out it's very rare that you have someone that does both for sure I don't also this is from Luke I don't know if Luke makes music and we've just answered it kind of from an artist perspective playlists from a listener perspective uh great like i love yeah they're great i think they're great i think you should listen to editorial playlists i think you should listen to like collab playlists people do like this so i think live playlist hey the big bean stock exchange but i think it is like ultimately is that thing it's like you want to listen to your radio yeah and see if you want similar artists to who you listen to they'll be on your radio correct i think yes yes so like that's a perfect place to go yeah and spotify for all its uh uh shortcomings yeah the the playlisting is unlike the algorithmic playlisting in my opinion is like mad like it does um it does make me discover loads of me even just that song radio function yeah not to fucking glaze spotify just like skip to the next song kind of thing yeah just like yeah serving me music that i will like true granted sometimes it can like lean on a more like well-known poppy side but also like if you go to an artist that like is really not well known it's very good at finding similar artists yeah yeah for sure um but like yeah music curation will never be music creation will always be a thing like even if it's like people tagging songs on their Instagram stories like love playlists and I don't think I think it's like a I don't know if this is what you're getting at I think it's like a seeing playlists and albums as like kind of mutually exclusive things that are at odds with each other is like I disagree with that I think like they're both great long live playlists and not just on Spotify or Apple wherever your mixtape so I think fucking there's a date on the next single it's coming Peugeot 306 mixtape it's sick i got it back it's done you got it back i need oh sorry yeah i got my talent no no you mean the master it's gonna be good i can't believe it's done i would like to talk more like in a few when it's out i'd like to do an episode talking about it okay like a big segment world building yeah basically world building world building motherfucker next week we'll talk about world building actually sorry also i'm starting a fucking sub stack because someone came up to me in a cafe and was like you do radio in it and i was like uh kind of and he was like i bet i'm a chef and i'm trying to i really want to work in the music industry like can you give me some advice and then and then i turned it into a viral moment basically and posted an instagram story and was like someone just came up to me and oh yeah i saw that and i was like did that blow up i got the most responses to a story that i've ever got in my life yeah i don't and i don't know if it was more artists wanting five replies that's so sickly well done i don't know if people want business advice or artist advice but i'm just i'm gonna start a sub you should do it instead of that ugly fucker that gets on tiktok it's like four tips for you and you're like who are you what stevie that sounded so mean stevie stevie the stevie the i don't know who it is stevie the music consultant no like the ones that's like i've been a and are listening to your music on live i just think it's so it is amazing how much of a um is it is it what the kids call a rug pull like just just a scam when someone says the whole thing is when someone says like i'm an anr it's like for who for who yeah and it's like just by saying an anr you're an anr you you pray on so many i want you to know that like the most successful i know are one on private and two like they'll find you yeah you will not find them they won't listen to your shit and they're seeing your shit they yeah they are seeing it it's literally they're on the for you page they will see you yeah like and they don't get on people like 100 likes like trust me they'll find you when needed so when someone says they're an anr and you should join they want and they're coming and you should come to them girl no and with that being said um i will be charging uh 10 pounds a month for my sub stock
1:03:35monetization not yet gotta gotta prove your concept a bit first before you charge the uh for the thing do you want to look at people's yeah i can how much juice have you got left yeah i can keep going boy is this everything that ever wanted why do you feel i think we're allowed to drop names because it will say the name in the thing this is willie p please help soon my dating life is disgustingly quiet and all i want is a queer buddy and some girl cock in my life which i rate so let's look okay from jackass and also instagram and i'm here doing the get will a match challenge uh so you should totally like go on a date with him because he's like fucking rad and i'm sober now so that's cool.
1:04:29That's good. Are you sober? Pause, pause, pause, pause, pause, pause. Was that a reference to Steve-O being sober now or was that a reference to you being sober now? Well, let's say now. I love a punsexual diva. Punsexual boys, where it's at. What's this prompt? If you say space ghetto in an American accent, it sounds like Spice Girls in a Scottish accent. It does. Sorry, space ghetto. Space ghetto. yeah spice spice girls yeah it does yeah you're very cute this is a diva from oh you went there no they drink what you went this is a diva from i met this person i believe in bristol when i supported lapsley they are oh very very lovely people who are not political okay i'd fool for you if you're covered in tattoos and have good taste in music and horror movies bonus points if you're vegan.
1:05:25Oh, and look. When you're plumbing.
1:05:30Wait, was that like, was that Deftones number or something? I don't know. Okay, so you're a rock chick. I just want to go back to the, like the, here we go. Okay, 30-year-old man, pansexual, marketing at music venue from Brighton. Okay, pick with Sonic the Hedgehog. strong okay so i think what are your immediate um immediate thoughts on uh our wp's hinge profile i like it i think you're very very clear which is nice bonus points if you're vegan you said what your political values are you've also like done an impressionist evo which kind of like makes you fun and it's it's it's top of the profile which i think is really brave no no well i believe the way it works on hinge now is that hinge orders it for you based on popularity oh really oh wow thank you sorry yeah this isn't an ad by the way we're just this isn't content um yeah yes which means people are liking that a lot yeah that's his top picture so yes yeah yeah yeah um but this person if you do come across this person they are very very very kind i met them in bristol and they were fab have we got any uh uh tips critiques for wp no i think i honestly think genuinely being on soapy come on soapy please move soapy so you're on the way so you're on the way so i think you're very clear about what you like what you do who you are it's lovely and you've got a picture of your cat which is great have you got any tips to a big crowd that's fun yeah it's a we got another one that is um similar to this it was a dj posting a picture of them djing i think um i just do uh one picture of you playing live because um you want to subtly reveal that you're really hot shit you don't want to make it seem like it's a big deal to you um bonus points if you're vegan who's vegan anymore i know but that's good because then you you at least find the vegans are at least you're a trailblazer yeah if you say space ghetto in an american accent it sounds like spice girls in a scottish accent don't agree personally um do love the sonic the hedgehog teddy um and do love your musical personality coming through is it deftones is it not the steve o voice note was quite impressive i think people love an impression um i think you should just lie about your age because nobody wants to date a 30 year old so yes they do um thank you 31 year old that's where we've met yeah we know wow he's in your dms maybe you should maybe you should put the pic with uh so i think on your you don't want to do that you want to put that on your field profile if you have one of those love you though love you willy so this is um a meme page which i'm actually really surprised how beautiful you are when people hide their faces on meme pages i just assume they're really like minging but they're not like everyone that i've met who has a meme page and hides their face is really beautiful so i'm like why are you all hiding your faces like because they're just not as fame hungry as as we are whoa okay wait wait we need to read out the prompts weirdest gift i've given or received a voice note from jedward i think it was john okay good you're you're you're you're alluding already that you're into uh pop british culture yeah and um avril i'm convinced that avril lavine was replaced by a clone fair dues and there's a topless selfie above that yeah and that's that's both of those are sparking debate i would say avril lavigne was replaced by clone is immediately going to capture um a kind of an urge to uh argue and like prove that you know about something i'd fall for you if you're mean to me okay and then there's a i think what's going on there your prompt to one of the photos is guess where this photo is taken that should be your first photo in my opinion yeah you look like that you look like that yeah i think in my opinion yeah for sure that should be a fair set i'd fall for you if you mean to me that's inviting a very toxic love in your life my love what what are we what are we getting at there yeah yeah are you are you dealing with some issues of self-worth and are you kind of wanting to be treated like shit because you know you're a piece of shit like you deserve all the love you deserve love okay and if you want to fucking get your rocks off by someone being mean to you maybe don't broadcast it on the fucking profile okay maybe just reveal that on the second date or something okay because we all have a little kinks yeah me and sue both like to be treated like shit but we don't we don't fucking broadcast it front and center all right all right we'll do one more for today one more this is we're not going to say the name okay dating me is like awesome and then they tag their own instagram which i actually think is the shout because that's something that i would i found hinge prompts extremely difficult to do when i was on hinge really because i can't get my personal hinge prompts are for toxic straight men who are really good at lying oh here we go no no no i really do let's go both my ex-boyfriends had the most entertaining fab fun yeah like hinge profiles i can't be funny over like dating me is like i don't fucking know what it's like i hope you enjoy it oh here we go so because you had to why your why yours you had two abusive ex-boyfriends who happens to be good at hinge profiles yeah that means that all fucking straight manner toxic who have who were funny who let's just let's have it right a fun I'm funny but I can't do hinge my hinge prompts are what like something about guilty pleasures you shouldn't feel guilty about taking pleasure in anything my most performative one is let's debate this topic rihanna versus gaga which we spoke about that's okay and then the other one is i can't remember guys if you're so manipulative i'm struggling for money at the minute so if you want hinge profile consultation all right yeah uh from a toxic male himself according to sue i think these are all beautiful pictures to this person who also said hi to me as well as louis so i'm saying hi back hello love you oh my god there's a 19 year old that listens to our podcast that's terrifying five foot ten okay wait sorry i haven't really dated me is like awesome instagram handle in the thing we didn't properly address that you think it's cool yeah i'm like you know where's good honey because because like you don't want to message and hinge or yeah just like let's get off this that's actually spewing each other's lives or are we just saying i'd like some more followers on instagram i do that by making a funny video yeah and that's like putting something into the world but like that's not why i'm on hinge i don't need more followers on instagram like no shade from people on hinge i think it's kind of cringe to put your instagram handle in your hinge but but get get also like shows them that you're like an internet person I come on the internet I think they should be separate And then that photo I like the one with like For listeners Sue just looked at me Like she wanted to kill me English, Italian and French Okay 510 Okay You bleached your eyebrows Once upon a time You look like you're in some Midwest emo album cover My favourite off-brand LGBTQIA icon is Emanuela Orlandi No idea who that is No idea who that is Is that bad?
1:13:11sure it's appealing to the heads which is exactly what it's designed to do um my love language is okay great i think you got a lovely profile you got a lovely side profile you got great hair um i'd give this a i think yeah your top photo is um i'd give this an eight out of ten i would say dating me as like could be improved but then it's your it's your top thing it's your top prompt which means it's getting good feedback um so all i would change is the dating me is like to be something a bit more specific than awesome okay personally and that's okay um and i would get your instagram handle like your hinge profile but sue says keep it in do you hear that sounds like breakfast is ready because quakers coming in hot with morning nutrition 100 whole grain oats and a good source of fiber to fuel the rhythm of your morning and kickstart your day.

I got DM'd it, so I thought we could do that one. Buff me. Buff me.
1:15:15Okay, you ready? It's quite a biggie. Agony Yelp Request. First of all, I love you both. The amount of times I listened to you guys yap has set straight. Honestly, set me straight. You're honestly such good eggs, and I love you both so much. Aw. Love you. Thank you. But basically, I run the Hot Mess Project, shout out, which is like a whatever-the-fuck-you creative space in Oxford. uni of i know whatever the fuck it's like a creative space in oxford okay um but one ask you guys how does one feel about making a solid community when people are so busy number two getting deep i've just come out of a breakup which has made me sign up to counseling after five years denial that i have issues struggling to get a grip on myself what like i portrayed myself as very outgoing confident drunkard druggie and they're not wanting to give those things up to be well in the sense that when i'm fine when i'm drinking on drugs but when i'm not well they are just a vessel for spiraling so i don't know how to navigate that and i want to host my own personal intervention of saying to uni mates and or family all the shit stuff that's going on with me okay so you're saying two things you're saying how do i create a say uh yeah i got that bit like a community space or like i didn't quite space and then two um how do i it sounds like you're having issues with alcoholism or drugs and how do you tell the truth to people uh was that the question where was the question it sounded really a question it was one how do we make it space then the other ones was like i'm really struggling with i feel like i'm really good when i'm drunk or high what was the what was the thing about person uh the intervention at the end oh they they said i want to host my own personal intervention and saying to uni mates and or family or the shit that's going wrong okay cool all righty well should we tackle um the easiest one first yeah um the the creative space in oxford uh uni of i know well congratulations on being at the university of oxford um once you've uh got through all this shit um you're gonna be uh set to be one of the most highly paid people in the world um and you're going to be really you already are really smart um how does one make a solid community when people are so busy uh i guess it's hard but surely you're busy too if you're doing a degree at the university of oxford um it's hard not to get mad at people but i feel like i i experience this a lot as someone without a real job um with loads of friends who have full-time work that often involves a lot of overtime I am slightly resentful and lots of friends who are in relationships I feel like I'm somewhat more in demand of attention than is available and the only the only thing that works for me is filling my plate with stuff that doesn't depend on them so I guess my answer is just just do what you can with the people the time you have with people and don't be resentful if they can't give you more than that because not everything is as important to everyone else as it is to you unfortunately and i think also if you're trying to create a creative space online i'd say content's your best friend and just like churning out content sometimes it won't do well but you have to keep on with um posting just to ensure that you'll get on the algorithm and then it'll like yeah and more widely that's like just proving your concept it's like you're demonstrating that it's the way to get people to come to your thing even in a community sense which is obviously like more holistic and nice is that you is it's it's you're more likely to get them to people to come if it's from a place of like this is a really cool and interesting thing rather than like this is a thing like you'd be really helping me out if you come to like this is unfortunately something i um saw on like one of those awful like self-help like leadership books when i was in wh smith once but it did ring true it's like people are more likely to come to something if it's like if they think it's good rather than like oh i should yeah yeah yeah um and if you build it they'll come but you need to build it and make sure it's good exactly lead the people and they will come yeah um okay so you just just can we just refresh because it was it's this is quite a big one getting deep i've just come out of a breakup which has made me sign up to counseling after five years of denial that i have issues for few struggling to get a grip on myself when i've portrayed myself as a very outgoing confident drunkard druggie and then not wanting to give those things up to be well in the sense that when i'm fine drinking and doing drugs are fine but when i'm not well they are the vessel for spiraling so i don't know how to navigate that i want to host my own personal intervention of saying stuff to my uni mates and or family all the shit stuff that's going on with me okay first things first the personal intervention thing sounds like a good idea it sounds like a good idea you will also get there when you need it yeah if that makes sense like you can't make that go any quicker i think a personal intervention starts at home and it starts with you and so i think you should worry less about how to tell people and more what you're going to do about your situation yeah and then that will lead to basically be like look i'm doing i'm perhaps going to na or aa which i would recommend if you are struggling with drugs and can't seem to get off them um i'm like looking into like support groups you are also going to counseling etc and maybe you could just like start being honest honesty is the only thing that's going to help in this situation i believe i think you really need to submit to yourself and surrender to the fact that perhaps you're struggling with substances yeah um i think the first thing is admitting that you um need help and you need to admit it and like submitting to the fact that like perhaps you do have issues with certain drugs or drink and also as well going to it i think i know obviously your heart may be broken that you've come out of this thing that sounded a bit toxic due to like you you're both being in like something that wasn't necessarily working and actually i do believe they say in na and aa that you shouldn't be in a relationship anyway unless you're already in one um because you need solely to focus on that time and being a person who has been with two addicts one of them which wasn't abusive which was just really sad he needed to be alone and still needs to be alone to in order to fix his shit when you're getting validation from somewhere else you'll put all yourself into that validation instead of putting it into yourself and usually the issue with drugs and alcohol is a worth thing i believe and and you know you need to submit to that and work on that to know that you're just as good if not better definitely better sober and in a better space i think beautiful um i would just add that it's it's great that you're going to counseling um if you're still at uni anyway i was just going to talk about how long this has been happening but it's great that you're going to counseling and um i don't want to sound like an enabler here but maybe just give the counseling a chance for a bit because uh i i can i can see myself in these words when you're like when i'm fine drinking and doing drugs are fine but when i'm not well they're the vessel for spiraling like that's kind of the same for everyone and and it's like don't it doesn't necessarily mean you're an addict or something like just just maybe bring it back on the drinking and drugs for a bit and then until you're fine again like this is the this is the balance of life and it's great that you're you're you know very aware of um your potential issues but like it i'm sensing maybe i don't know i don't have enough context but if i'm if i'm projecting and i'm just gonna project it sounds like you're potentially getting a bit um catastrophic which is something i do a lot and like yeah it's all all i'd say is like give give the counseling a chance but like don't kind of go like oh i'm an addict like fuck that's what's going on here like sometimes you just go through periods where you self-medicate and then you have to just go like oh wait this is this is not good yeah yeah just react to that just take your foot off the gas a bit oh sorry sophie um and you want to host your own intervention iconic yeah gaga i i i wish i could i think it's time that's something i do as well um but tell your friends honestly we'll get you through this and yeah yeah tell your friends you feel much better help you yeah um but yeah the only other thing is you've just come out of a breakup yeah i don't want to sound like an enabler because you should do all the things you're doing i just don't want you to like get too catastrophic with you know you're you've just come out of a breakup you're at university most of your friends are probably drinking and doing drugs like it's not to say that's what makes it okay but it's quite casual and it's it's your environment um that being said yeah you should you should react to how bad it's making you spiral and uh and get help which you're already doing and so uh you're on the you're on the right path
1:24:45bleep bleep we're gonna bleep that out all right love you peace and love to the rubber gloves who was that peace to love rubber gloves was that jack scout um peace love rubber gloves pierce my whole marigolds
