In short

George Riley (Straight Diva) talks about making music while managing social media/TikTok pressure, dealing with self-doubt and burnout, and balancing “fun” with the job of chasing virality and money. They also trade takes on celebrity culture, nepo babies, music references, and reality TV, then shift to lighter chat about cooking/roast chicken.

Guest backgrounds

George Riley is a musician/artist who makes slightly left-of-center pop and uses humor in lyrics. He’s known for impersonation/comedy bits (including a viral “Iris” law-style moment). The other hosts are musicians who run the Straight Diva podcast and discuss their own TikTok/music approach.

Key claims

Comparison can be the thief of joy; he avoids over-listening while writing. Going viral is desirable but not the goal—slow builds feel healthier. Social media can feel insatiable and disconnected from perspective. Creativity is an emotional outlet even when the work isn’t “good.” He wants cash but mainly to earn enough to live without constant stress.

Notable examples

“Iris” video/impersonation; TikTok “POV/song of the summer” culture; references to PinkPantheress, Adele, Oasis/Beatles takes, Travis Scott fan culture, Kanye West clout, and reality shows like Maths UK, House of Salt Lake City, and Terrace House.

1:16George Riley:Okay so basically I used to have I used to feel like that a bit more But I don't think I feel like that anymore I think I've tried to Expel that kind of thinking But what I will say is I just don't want to listen To those music sometimes when I'm making music, it's just like, it's just like, I have too much in my head. I have, and I, I just put a podcast. Right. I put on Straight Diva.

1:35Straight Diva:Uh oh. Thank you. Thank you. Wake it up. Yeah. Oh God. We're clipping. We're clipping. We're clipping folks. Folks. I'm not trans. Do you know when people call you folks? Not you, but do you know when you, yeah. What about, what about, what about, what about. It's just like, okay. What about, hey guys. Hey guys. See, I like guys. I'd rather be called lads. I'd literally be called lads. Folks, I'm like, is there an X in there? Do you know what I mean? Or like women with an X in it. Come on. Come on now. Please. George Riley, thank you for joining us on the podcast. Oh, thanks for being on. Thank you for having me, guys.

2:18Straight Diva:I'm a son of you guys. I'm a son of you guys.

2:21George Riley:Love the mango video. Wake it up. it really was a good moment shout out Iris

2:30Straight Diva:shout out Iris where is she? she's always away she's always in Paris she's always stomping down a runway no shade that was one of the bits I wanted to include from the Iris video is that I didn't want to give off the impression that she doesn't work hard she does obviously she is travelling

2:54Straight Diva:I did an interview with days for my music project. And that like the way they described me, it was like the guy who made the Iris law. I was like, fuck it. Well, how do you feel about that? You know what? If that's what people know me for, that's what people know me for. Yes.

3:10George Riley:For being funny.

3:11Straight Diva:Yeah, exactly. Literally. And you know, you could argue like your biggest claim to fame is impersonating someone else, but I'm just not going to think about it. No, no.

3:22George Riley:I think impersonations is lost. comedic art form. And let's bring it back. I think they're hard to do. And the reason it went so far was because it was like a very excellent impersonation.

3:34Straight Diva:I didn't realize how big it got. And then I was talking to you the other day because I like to do that with all my friends just go on their Instagram and have a skull. That's nice. But it had like 100 ,000 likes. But I didn't realize that she was so big either. I'm a celebrity girl. I know she's big, but like... I didn't realize she was huge. Of the Nepo babies. Yeah, she's quite a good one to be honest. Yeah, exactly.

3:53George Riley:Exactly. Which nepa baby do you hate?

3:56Straight Diva:Oh, not hate. I know who I don't like.

4:00George Riley:Which ones are there?

4:01Straight Diva:I like the Beckhams. I quite like Romeo. I quite like the Beckhams.

4:04George Riley:Wait, is Romeo the one that's like in his light skin era? Yeah.

4:09Straight Diva:He's so sexy. Yeah, I don't know how old he is. I don't know how to say that. The new replica. I think he's 19. Yeah. How old? 19. Yeah. That's fine. I love him. I love the Beckhams.

4:22George Riley:Yeah. obviously the whole thing with Brooklyn is quite sad obviously wait what's happened? well he's been excommunicated from the family

4:31Straight Diva:has he not? this is a straight diva exclusive is it not?

4:36George Riley:I swear like because he's with the wife what's she called?

4:39Straight Diva:Nicole Ampelt

4:42George Riley:and then she's like with her Trump family and then they had like a big argument with the family so he's been like off in America and he wasn't even there for when thing did his knighthood. Oh my God, you're kidding.

4:55Straight Diva:Excuse me. Well, didn't that happen with Gordon Ramsay's kid recently? Have you seen that? No. Gordon Ramsay's kid is marrying - Polly, Tilly or Pitty. One of them. He's marrying someone else and they've, the whole thing is like, they've stopped inviting the girl's mum, who's a famous person. And I can't remember who he is. Did you see that? Oh, I vaguely have seen this. And like, it's like, everyone's like, and then Lorraine Kelly was like, you should call your mum. It's like, fuck off Lorraine, you never go to work. Lorraine? Like come on Like Lorraine Literally Yeah she's dick spirit Least favourite Number one Coming into my mind Is I don't even know his name But Bono's son Who is the lead singer Oh I've got one I don't know who he is Seems like a really nice guy Right But he did Did you see his view From a bridge No Oh yeah I don't even know who he is He He's just like an indie He's very handsome He's fit though Okay fine If he's 18 Lead singer of a band Call Inhaler They're fine Okay But his view from a bridge, which is like, you know, come on a view from a bridge, you can either talk about your trauma or like some kind of unique perspective you have on the world that's kind of cool.

5:59Straight Diva:This guy came on and was like, I think Instagram reels are bad for us. It's like, whoa. He's taking it. I know. This is a kid who has been maybe, had his opinion reinforced a few too many times. Wow.

6:14George Riley:And did it do well? Was it well received? It actually did. Wow. Yeah.

6:18Straight Diva:And that's the thing. maybe I'm the wrong audience.

6:21George Riley:But I think being related to Bono

6:22Straight Diva:would fry your brain anyway. Yeah, 100%. 100%. Yeah.

6:26George Riley:I've got to say then, I think mine is going to be the Gallagher sons. Wait, are they? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, look, I'm not. Oasis, look. What are your thoughts? No, don't get me wrong. I like the songs. But when the whole Oasis thing was going on, I was just like, oh, for God's sake. It's like this again, again, again, again. Oasis, Oasis. I just don't give a fuck. I'm sorry, guys. Look, if someone gave me a ticket to the show, I would have gone. Yeah, you would've gone. Yeah, I would've gone. I would've had a pint. I would've been a little bit scared, but I would've gone, and I'm sure it would've been a fab time.

6:54George Riley:Yeah. Those sons, I don't care for them. Okay. I do not care for them. Look, one of them mildly sexy, but it's, do you know what the thing is? It's the face where he's like, I'm just like, do you know what? Fuck you. Yeah. I just really -

7:09Straight Diva:Do you reckon you can smile with that face?

7:11George Riley:He's just annoying. And also I feel like there, I don't know whether I'm making this up, but there was like a racism thing, or there was something where he got done for something and it was, I don't know. I'm just like, sorry, boys. Drop them out. Sorry, boys. I just don't, I'm not approving.

7:26Straight Diva:Is it that Oasis are like, or sorry, it's just the kids that you are like, Oasis you're kind of indifferent to?

7:36George Riley:I -

7:36Straight Diva:Or you think they're like overrated and like you don't know what you're doing.

Read the full transcript

7:39George Riley:It's not that I think they're overrated. It's like everyone's reaction. Yeah, I guess it is though. Yeah. It's like the way everyone speaks about them annoys me. I don't think they're annoying. It's like the way that everyone is about them is annoying.

7:49Straight Diva:Oasis and the Beatles.

7:50George Riley:I hate the Beatles. No. Sorry. I listened to you guys last week. Thank God. Sorry, but the Beatles, I'm sorry, I'm not getting it. I know you said about the tin hat, whatever they are. I was like, no, sorry, girl. I just, it's not happening. Tell you what, sorry. No, no, no, you go. The Christmas song. Boom, boom, boom, boom.

8:12Straight Diva:Wonderful Christmas time.

8:13George Riley:That is an amazing song. That song is my favorite Christmas song. It's on the beat in Paul McCartney. That song, I do believe, is amazing. Apart from that, everything else is a write-off. But I'm on that.

8:27Straight Diva:Dead it, dead it. No, I could... The thing I took issue with was not that you... Like, they're overrated. They are, like, pseudo-intellectualised, maybe. The thing that I couldn't take was when you firstly said that Uni and J were better. That's fine. And secondly... And secondly, when you said... They're like McDonald's. They're like the blandest thing. Yeah. Yeah. Agreed. Because they did get weird with it. Right. They had a go. Yeah. But then when it was like the only thing to watch, like, is that gaggy? I don't know. What you're saying, it's like the BBC of their generation. Yeah. They're just like everywhere.

9:04Straight Diva:They're the only thing on channel. Yeah. I don't know. My least favorite Napa baby is Lila Moss, and I'm really sorry to her.

9:10George Riley:Oh, sorry, Lila. But it's just like, what are you giving her? Yeah, you're not giving anything.

9:15Straight Diva:She walked a show yesterday with Lily Allen. Did you see that? Like the show that everyone's at.

9:18George Riley:Oh, I saw Lily doing it. Yeah, Lily did it. Kai did it for us.

9:22Straight Diva:What about - But Lila's just like, she's just there. What about Lofty Moss? Quite like her. She's quite funny. She's quite fun. She likes some of my videos sometimes. She's on Hinge, I'm here for it.

9:32George Riley:Who was her man? She had a public break. Oh, it was a DJ. Again, who is he?

9:39Straight Diva:Ketema is like two young kind of straight dance music fans. like what the Beatles is to middle-aged arts. And she was with them. He's the god. Okay.

9:51George Riley:And he's in that wife beater.

9:53Straight Diva:Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.

9:55George Riley:And he's got - Do you have any other clothes? You shout? I was thinking that.

10:01Straight Diva:Is that wax? Really? What's going on? It's the private wife beater. To like, you know, speed garage, uni kids. Okay. Pingers, cream fields. And she was with him? Very much the straight arts music crowd. I thought she was with someone else as well. She was with him and she kind of filmed him at times. Like, you know, oh, he got me cakes. Right. Cake. Fuck off, man.

10:25George Riley:Got her cakes as a present.

10:27Straight Diva:Yeah. Hummingbird. Okay.

10:29George Riley:Okay.

10:30Straight Diva:The bar's on the floor. Hummingbird. Fuck off.

10:33George Riley:Sorry, but it's not for me. To film it and post it. It's not a choice. I wouldn't. No, like, I'd be happy. It's not for cake. It's too sweet for me that I think.

10:42Straight Diva:But you'd be happy, but like not to post. No. Like the things that you post from your man, it's got to be like... Never post. Yeah. Okay, so let's get on this. Wow, here we go. Do we post our boyfriend? Chanté, Chanté. Our boyfriend's embarrassing.

10:57George Riley:Yeah. I mean... I mean... It's not that. I just feel for me personally, it's like my social media is my work and my brand. So I'm just like, he's got nothing to do with it. Yeah. Exactly.

11:09Straight Diva:And I think like even someone who's not using Instagram as a... like a business maybe or like an artistic thing would still treat it that way yeah it's not like it's not like we're on facebook and in 2011. yeah this is completely private i think i just have it

11:28George Riley:i before i was doing music i didn't have social media at all really and i was so happy out of choice yeah out of choice out of choice i was like very like didn't know what bebo was whatever that time was going on didn't have a blackberry when people were doing like the things with the ratings and stuff. It wasn't like out of like coolness. I just did not know what was going on. I was very like old brain at a young age and just was like, I just don't really get it. I just don't, I never understood it as a child, but I feel really behind now because I'm just like, you guys, you've been in TikTok because I have no idea what the fuck's going on.

12:04Straight Diva:I honestly, to be honest, I was never on the ball until TikTok. Like I feel like I fell off. So I was on Twitter trying to fit in with the Twitter gays. They're all mean to me. Now they follow me on TikTok. here we go wake it up thank you yeah like you can watch you can watch but it's like I was on TikTok I was on oh I love your nails oh thanks babe so nice Biab oh really

12:24George Riley:I just it's a scam I can't it's a scam it's a scam and it hurts it batters and it burns yeah it's like Biab's getting

12:31Straight Diva:dogged down

12:32George Riley:they put a layer on they're like

12:34Straight Diva:an extra 15

12:35George Riley:I can't get to the nail salon quick enough before I bite them off yeah so that's the issue

12:40Straight Diva:so you don't do Biab

12:41George Riley:I've tried yeah but I know I actually usually get a square, but I've gone for oval this time because of this flesh color. So I thought that it was like, kind of felt like it was like coming out of the skin. And yeah. An extension of yourself. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. It was a bit better like that. Yeah. What was you saying?

13:03Straight Diva:Wait, it intrigues me to hear that you didn't have social media. Oh yeah. Because I, one thing I wanted to talk to you about was how like you are part of a relatively small group of artists, I would say, that's making like slightly left to center pop music, doesn't mind, well, off the, from the outside, doesn't mind making TikToks, but also you're not like, you're doing it in a slightly artistic way. You're like not going like, POV, I made the sound of the summer. Yes. Or like, being like, you know, an idiot like we are. I love your guys' TikTok. I wish. No one knows who I am. There is an element in a few.

13:41Straight Diva:But they're like really good at like being like casual, but elevated, I think. Oh, thanks. That's nice of you to say. How to use social media.

13:51George Riley:I don't, I don't think I've learned. I think I'm just learning. I haven't got a clue what I'm doing. I just feel that this year, this year was the first year that I said, right, I'm going to post. Before that, I never really posted or I post, but it was like, not really. And this year I was like, fine, this year I will post but it's been hard it's been hard because it's just insatiable so I'm just like I just feel like it's never enough but in terms of I would never post like POV's song of the summer I just would never but but like I'm happy to do like uh I don't even know what just I don't even know just chat shit or whatever um but yeah it's difficult because I don't know how you guys feel but like I think that whatever it actually is I'm I'm too in it to see I know you're too close to it yeah like i don't actually know how it comes across at all i think i'm the most cringe person like in the world so i can't i'm like too there to like have any kind of

14:45Straight Diva:perspective do you have that with judging your music as well or is that different yeah sorry it's an emotional day i feel like yeah also that i think this year i've just been running all

15:04George Riley:yeah and i just have not i've i feel really disconnected actually do you think it's like

15:10Straight Diva:a bigger picture thing like i always like especially when i talk to type management or like whoever i'm just so not focused on a bigger picture but it's totally about the bigger picture yeah do you know what i mean so every day you'll post like a tiktok or like quote unquote won't go viral or whatever and i'm like fucking hell i need to go viral i need to go viral or something yeah and then actually when you look back at the bigger picture and you're like you see oh hang on and stuff yeah oh it's actually quite fierce and eight absolutely i think it's like yeah we are so like either hyper focused on what's going on straight away yeah and kind of yeah definitely it's difficult yeah but you've been smashing it babes thank you me and sue often debate like about

15:44George Riley:because i would be terrified to have a song go viral yeah agree because like you and like someone

15:53Straight Diva:like um pink panther us like handled it so well but it did take her time because you know for a time people were like dogging her tiktok especially liveset and it's so nice to see that she's come on oh my god yeah like when you go viral i feel like you miss out like all this time to develop definitely would you like to go viral god or would you rather like have like a slow i mean

16:18George Riley:slow build slow build yeah definitely yeah obviously i'll be lying if i wasn't like why can't i fucking fame so rich right now like that would be obviously so nice but i'm but yeah i'm I'm definitely like the whole, my whole career has been, I'm not really perfectionist. I'm just kind of like, I'm working with us. Let's just try and get it out now. Let's just put it out. But then because of that, I always feel like I'm never like, I haven't reached any kind of like Nevada, but like everything is just trying and seeing and trying and seeing. And that's kind of like what it is kind of all about anyway.

16:51So I'm just like, let's just keep going.

16:54George Riley:But I will say this year I was a bit like, I need to quit. Like this is too. Really? Yeah. I think I just, I mean, it's not seriously, but I think it's just like, I'm just exhausted. And also I've had quite a lot of like family stuff this year. Like my grand died. And my mom got cancer. Yeah, she's right. She's fine. But you know, it's one of those things where you're just like, and then like I'm in the hospital and I'm just like, let me post my TikTok. My song's coming out today. And I'm like there like posting myself. I'm like, can I have forever memory of my throat today? Like I'm so happy.

17:26George Riley:I'm just, it's just ridiculous. but in a way it kind of did put it all in perspective a little bit as well because i'm just like right like do you know what i mean like it's just it is a job but i think i've this year i've been too much in it's a job and not enough in this is what i love to do and i'm enjoying it and so i need to get back to that yeah well can i say that the it's a mixtape not an album thank you so much yes thank you it sounds like you're enjoying doing it yeah okay good it's

17:54Straight Diva:So good. Thank you guys. Babe. But honestly though, we've been speaking a lot about this this year where it's kind of felt like we've been saying to each other and also I've been saying to my partner, the reason you started doing this is for fun. Whereas it's like this year, when it becomes a job as well, when you say it's a job as well, I think it sounds like, I feel like I sound like a dickhead. Yeah, I'm just digging what I love.

18:16George Riley:Yeah, yeah, yeah. And everyone's like, right, okay, yeah. Shut the fuck up. Yeah.

18:20Straight Diva:But it is also at the same time, it does become a job. Like you're constantly chasing like, well, virality maybe, or like fucking gigs or whatever. What are we chasing? What are we chasing? We don't know. Do you know what your definition of success is? Like we always talk about this and we have like -

18:35George Riley:I do want cash.

18:36Straight Diva:Yeah. I would be lying if I said I did not want cash.

18:40George Riley:And everyone gets slightly different answers

18:41Straight Diva:and then it all just comes back to, I just like to earn enough money.

18:45George Riley:Cause that's the thing. It's like, even if you get, like I signed my publishing this year, which I'm so happy about. And thank you. and like i've been able to like be a bit more just living not feel like everything is so stressed but it's like even that it's like okay great i'm making minimum wage yeah yeah how long am i going to live off this now for like five years or whatever yeah babe honestly it was

19:10Straight Diva:the same this year like i feel like we i quit my job to this full time which is great thanks babes but it is that thing isn't it which is just kind of like you quit your jobs then just kind of like like, skate by. Like I haven't earned any money in like two months. And I'm like, okay, what's gonna happen next?

19:26George Riley:Or like a few years ago, I was getting so many great fashion gigs, like really good money. I was like, this is amazing. I'll be rich forever. But it's like when they stop

19:38Straight Diva:and you don't realize that they stop and then it's like a month goes by and you're like, oh, it's been a long month. And then it like slowly starts going. I feel like we have, well, I don't know about you, but I haven't earned money in like two months. it's coming up to three literally yeah speak for yourself honestly i'm panicking i'm panicking

19:55George Riley:christmas on the way oh no yeah honestly i'm like what and everyone's like let's take take

19:59Straight Diva:a break in january i'm like i've been taking a drink break since september i know wait so when are you like have you got past this hump now of like um having doubts about whether you want to be a music at all or yeah yeah i mean i think it's ongoing like i think i just yeah

20:16George Riley:It's just one of those things. It's always in the back going, why the fuck am I putting myself through this? Why am I doing this? I just think it's like social media age. I just like, I think some people take to it. Like both of you guys take to it so well. I just feel like I'm just not, I'm just not meant to be online.

20:36Straight Diva:Like honestly, it's like shocking to hear this. You're absolutely smashing it. And the aesthetic is crazy. It all looks so cohesive, so beautiful. So amazing. You shot a video with your friend. Iris. Yeah, she's fab.

20:49George Riley:She's really fab. She's so fierce. You know, yeah. Let me take a step back. Yeah. Let me tell you. Thank you, guys. Honestly, it's amazing.

20:58Straight Diva:You're absolutely killing it.

20:59George Riley:What about you guys and, like, the virality thing and, like, how that feels? Gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme. Yeah, really, yeah. You guys have been viral, like, quite a few times. Yeah, but I don't find it hard to go, like,

21:10Straight Diva:it sounds horrible, and I hope it doesn't sound like Dickhead. I don't find it hard to go viral by being funny. I think there is a way to make it work for you. And I don't think it's hard to go viral for being funny. Viral for music is still like, it's still like a mountain I'm looking up. I have no idea. I have no fucking idea. I really, even now, I'll speak to my team for music stuff and I'm like, I have no fucking clue how we're going to do this. And it feels like after every meet and I'm like, right, I'll just post a video then and hope for the best. Do you know what I mean? It's like, you can do something, like you can do a show and the show's fine and like you lead up and then you finish the show and you're like, still haven't gone viral though.

21:44Straight Diva:Yeah. But it is the bigger picture. It's almost like you have to ignore it. Definitely. But it's fucked.

21:50George Riley:It's always changing so quickly as well. Yeah, exactly. One month something works, one month it doesn't.

21:54Straight Diva:And I feel like artists are in and out at the minute. Yeah. Like everyone, like there's a bunch of new artists this year. I'm like, where the fuck have these artists come from?

22:01George Riley:Who's Somba?

22:03Straight Diva:Who the fuck is Somba? Yeah, who's Somba? Who's Too Hollis? Sorry. Who's Too Hollis? Who's that? Wait, what was...

22:09George Riley:Is that the song? I just took a piece. Yes. What the fuck? Yeah, that was really great.

22:17Straight Diva:That video of him when he's crying. I'm not seeing it. He's a little sissy boy. And then, well, his mom's head of A &R, I think it is. Yeah, like waking up. Happy birthday video from Skrillex. Right. Happy birthday, Hollis. Oh, wow. No way. Is his name Hollis? Yeah. Hollis. Hollis.

22:36George Riley:Have you guys been to LA? I actually haven't. I haven't even been to New York. What do you think?

22:43Straight Diva:I didn't like it that much. Do you drive? No.

22:48George Riley:Do you drive? No. So I've been learning, obviously. I can drive illegally. I love it.

22:56George Riley:We hate it when you say that. No, no, no, no. I love New York.

23:01Straight Diva:Okay, yeah. LA was cool to see. It was cool to, you know.

23:04George Riley:Do you love New York as well?

23:06Straight Diva:Yeah. I can't stand it. It's a lot.

23:07George Riley:I do love it though, but it is like, whoa, it's the money. it's just like step out coffee 60s wallets everything

23:13Straight Diva:I love it I just think it's just like London like I know I've said it before but I'll say it again like it's London on crack but like actually on crack no actually completely cracked out and like what's gonna happen when we're on the tubes pull a gun on me and there was like a man just like sat there just throwing shit down his leg and I was like right and like you're just like talk to your mate like I was like there's a man with shit on his leg yeah I'm like guys are we okay no they're not we're not well no I think

23:36George Riley:I think it's very so did you like LA um mixed feelings about la i've been quite a few times and like i think it's just so spread out because i don't drive it's just like you can't really do it i'm like i'm very late i'm very spontaneous i don't make plans you can't really live like that if you're there it just doesn't really work so i'm just like okay well i'm late and everything's expensive but like the more recently i did have like a much better time and i think you just need to like have friends obviously but then it's just like i don't know everyone is i've had some weird experiences like music wise as well um in la yeah good and good and bad um like there's yeah everyone's everyone's mental everywhere i guess but but also what i do love about it is that everyone like we were saying earlier it's like so transactional that everyone is just down to work like it doesn't matter they're like oh my god you're british what the fuck like and anything could happen there is that vibe of like anything is possible.

24:34George Riley:Yeah. Which I think here, like we've got such like, you know, British, like we don't like working with anyone. And we like, if we don't know them, then even if you're like, you do similar stuff, like you wouldn't necessarily be like, be friends with them. Or like, this is like a weird, like underdog thing here, which obviously doesn't exist there. It's like much more ambitious, which I like. Yeah.

24:52Straight Diva:Okay. So you're okay with transactional as long as we're honest about it.

24:57George Riley:As long as we're honest. Yeah. As long as we've all said, look, this is why we're here. Fine. We can. Yeah.

25:01Straight Diva:I think that's the thing. I assume you went for work. Yeah. As well. Yeah. So that's thing. It's like, I went to work though. That's sick. You're going to work. Yeah, that is fierce. Let's go. Yeah. Wake up. Go to Erwan.

25:12George Riley:Erwan. I went to Erwan. I had a weird day. Yes. Not Jamba Juice. No. No. What is Jamba Juice? Do I know what Jamba Juice is?

25:19Straight Diva:I only know from a Travis Scott song. Okay, fine.

25:21George Riley:I don't know any Travis Scott. He scares me so much. I've never listened to Travis Scott either. He's terrifying.

25:26Straight Diva:His fans are terrifying. Yeah. Yeah. The whole thing. Did you watch that documentary? The one about the kids that died. I know. So sad. Rage. Well, then you wouldn't like Travis Scott, would you? No, yeah. Maybe I've been putting it off like a kind of a Chris Brown avoidant thing.

25:41George Riley:Chris Brown.

25:42Straight Diva:I'm not a fan of Chris Brown. Thank you. We all have... Great. I like the... Remember that? I was like, oh. We don't, you know, we don't have to dox you out, but we all have an artist. Of course, Michael Jackson. I know who mine is. Yeah, exactly. Mine's Kanye West. This is one of the best albums of all time. It is. No, it's great. And it's fine to separate art from artists. I think you can only have like one art. Unless it's Dr. Luke.

26:05George Riley:The thing is, if they're dead, it's better.

26:08Straight Diva:And Kanye is like he's dead because he's just killed any opportunity ever for himself again. Exactly. Yeah. Did you see the Hell Hitler video? Did you see that one? I saw him apologizing to a rabbi the other day. Oh, I saw that. I saw that. He looked very medicated. Damn. Okay.

26:27George Riley:What's ridiculous I find is the people that are still around him. You know when it's like someone's insane, everyone knows they are, but there's still such clout chasers, they'd just rather be there than be somewhere else. I'm just like, wow, that's crazy.

26:38Straight Diva:But do you know when you think of your mates, if like me and you blew up, blew up, right, and then you started turning left, like right, going major right wing, I'd be like, Louis, babe, like what's happening here? What's happening here? Like, babe, like, like, do you expect, like, or has he lost his actual mates? Is that the thing? Like he's just got yes men around him now.

26:57George Riley:100 % Do you know what I mean? He couldn't have anyone else, surely

26:59Straight Diva:Because he would just be like, fuck you and goodbye Do you think there's a way of doing good art forever? Oh Like with like success Because also, not going to gag it But like Adele's album 30 Wow Of all the names you picked Well it gave like no one said no

27:15George Riley:What was the song that I liked? The one about the wine I drink wine, banger That was good That was good to be fair But the album I felt was quite hard to get through

27:23Straight Diva:And I think everyone was just like, yeah, just do it and I think there's like there's an issue with that I was about to say someone

27:30George Riley:but I can't redacted yeah pull it back pull it back yeah can you make great art forever I think I think it's always going to be up and down yeah I do think that creativity is just like it's I don't know I like be dormant yeah it'll come back

27:48Straight Diva:there is actually some artists that have just come to mind that have released projects and someone should have said no recently

27:52George Riley:oh damn

27:53Straight Diva:someone should have said no not should have said no but be like

27:56George Riley:babe just give yourself a minute with the pop girlies like the really big ones i think i guess all of them since the charlie record they're trying to be like let's do the club thing it's like yeah you can't really do it top down like if you don't know the people and you're not in this scene then it just doesn't as much as like i'm happy for you yeah and like i think it looks cute

28:12Straight Diva:like it doesn't really translate like translate and like copying the perils you love that the perils of being a celebrity thing and the perils of fame yeah taylor i think if yeah but I think also if you're going to reference something, you need to be like, not involved, but like you could, I'm going to leave that there. Because I'll have to start naming names. I'm going to leave that there.

28:35George Riley:Is the podcast getting a bit too big now? Where you're like, wait, hang on a sec. If I do, someone's going to hear me.

28:40Straight Diva:Do you think we will naturally lose our edge as we get bigger? Nobody can make great art forever. There we go. How long do you want to do this for? Like what's the vibe with the pod? Well, we did it right. The reason we did it is we actually are both musicians and only actually want to do that. so then we started doing this but nobody cares so we just beg everyone on the podcast um but like it's people do care about so people go out you sold out the fucking old blue last no

29:10Straight Diva:she just sold out the haggistone i know not the haggistone Shadwell, what is it? Shackwell. Shadwell.

29:23Straight Diva:Can you perform at the Hagerston? I love the Hagerston. The Hagerston's on the corner in Dolphin. Not the Hagerston, the Shackwell. Shackwell, which is where? It's on another corner in Dolphin. And which one's got the weed smoking area, which is inside? Shackwell. That's what I meant. But it's not there, no, it's at the lower third. The lower third. in Tottenham Court Road. Yeah, Tottenham Court Road, yeah.

29:44George Riley:Yes, where Altonet is. Basement of Altonet. Same building. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's there.

29:48Straight Diva:Sorry, we digressed from Wuthering what? Wuthering Heights. We're both trying to meet Cliff. We're both musicians. We're both musicians. We did this for music. Oh yeah, exactly. And then it's just kind of like moved into like, it's so weird that like, now we have these weird kind of like internet comedy. Which I love. But it's just kind of like, what what do you do with that it's like I don't know do our TV show I would love to do that I'm so want to write a TV show let's do it yeah I mean the thing is I

30:28George Riley:do think that you have to have a profile in order to show your stuff yeah like it's all part of the same I think you can do I think it all helps yeah exactly I think he can do everything. There's no like rule. There's no rule books. Break the rules.

30:46Straight Diva:But Dochi was a YouTuber. Can you remember Dochi's YouTube days? Yes, exactly.

30:50George Riley:Her doing the artist's way.

30:53Straight Diva:Yes.

30:54George Riley:Did she film that? I think she did. Fuck.

30:56Straight Diva:I really don't want to do the artist's way because I just know it'll be like when Brooke Candy went and did Ayahuasca and quit music. Like I just couldn't, like I just know I do the artist's way and be like, why the fuck am I here? I wanted to be a dental nurse. Do you know what I mean? I think if I was born a cis girl, I would have.

31:10George Riley:Fine, fine. Dental nurse,

31:12Straight Diva:V500 and like boys that hates me. Have you heard Morning Pages? I don't, I really don't I don't like the name.

31:18George Riley:I don't really, I don't get me wrong, I'll journal, but when I'm calling it Morning Page it just feels like very like and they're like fill out. Yeah, thank you. Okay. Let's go to Octane.

31:32Straight Diva:Let's go to Joe Lennon and do my Fierce Pages. Jolene or Jolene? Oh, Jolene. It's good that we don't know how to pronounce. Where's that one? It's that pink one in Shoreditch. And there's a couple. Where's the other one? Yeah. There's one in Finsbury Park. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. That one. People love that. Yeah. People love that. God, I've been thrown off. But music. Yeah. So we both did it for music. It's basically like. Yeah. Yeah. It's two sides of the coin. One side is like, it's good. Like anything to build your audience is good. Exactly. The other side is like, do people just think I'm a silly fuck who takes the piss out of people?

32:06George Riley:What's wrong with being a silly fuck? Like I think people need to be silly. I love silly people. And this is the thing like music is so dry and everyone's so cool. It's just like so boring. I personally find it boring. And like for ages I was like, I'm not, well, I just felt too shy to post honestly. But like now I'm just like, my personality is not sitting here and like being new and just being like, it's not the type of music I make. Obviously I wish I could be a Terza or whoever it is. And just like, I don't have to do anything, but it's not, it's just not the reality for me.

32:36Straight Diva:I've got to come to terms. Do you reckon Terz, right, waking it up, do you reckon Terz is like working in a cafe? No. I don't think so. She's got two kids. She's so big. But does the money stay? I think she's legend level. In my head. But I'm like, how music works now, there's no money in the fucker.

32:56George Riley:Gosh. Do you know what I mean? I think it's hard for everyone, honestly.

32:59Straight Diva:I think so too. I think it doesn't stop. I think to do music now, you actually can't. I think there's so many artists that just need to go away for a bit, but you just can't. do you know what I mean people get asked to do like other albums

33:09George Riley:would you do a Christmas album

33:12Straight Diva:if it was fierce yeah or really sad

33:14George Riley:I mean yeah why not oh god

33:17Straight Diva:well I was gonna say when you said and it's coming here in December imagine this is a world premiere simply

33:25George Riley:it's gonna be that like five ways love that song I was gonna say

33:30Straight Diva:it's interesting that you say like silliness because I feel like something you do well is like incorporate a sense of humor into your lyrics. Yeah. Without it being like, because one thing me and Sue are always scared of is like the most embarrassing thing either of us could do is like make comedy music. Okay. Bo Burnham. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. But like, I do think there's like a real art to having a sense of humor in your lyrics. Something useful as well. But like, it's still being like serious and meaningful. I feel like it adds so much more. It makes it so much more. Yeah. Is that something you consciously do or it just?

34:08George Riley:I wouldn't say it's conscious. Yeah, I think it just flows out of me naturally. But I feel like I just, I don't really sit and think about writing music. I just go there and then I write it and I go, oh yeah.

34:25Straight Diva:Yeah, exactly. I know exactly what I mean. Sue's the same. You're not gonna like revise and like, ooh. Not really. Sit with a guitar. Not really.

34:32George Riley:I'm not really sitting there going all like thinking about it all over and over again. So you're a producer's dream.

34:38Straight Diva:You just get in there and go like, okay, done.

34:39George Riley:Thank you. It's finished. Well, no, I will go and re-record a vocal. I never really like to use my initial vocal. I'm very like, I will want to go and re-record the vocal, much to everyone else's dismay. But like in terms of like writing, I just feel like if it hasn't emerged or it hasn't come out there and then, or I'm not inspired there and then, then it's not going to. So I just don't force That's fierce.

35:01Straight Diva:And do you, because something that stands out about your music to me is how good your hooks are, your top lines. Oh, thanks. Do you come with your melodies first before your lyrics? Or is it fair? Could be either.

35:14George Riley:Could be either. I definitely don't have like a system. I definitely am not like, I'm not, music for me is the easiest part. Writing music I love. I just get there and I'm just like, yeah. I just like, yeah, I just love being here. and make the song, it just comes out, or it doesn't, or you write something shit, whatever, go home. Like everything else I find difficult, but the music part of it is just like, just get there, do it, bosh, bosh, bosh.

35:42Straight Diva:That's sick. And I just enjoy it. What are your top tips for writing a good top line? Or is it so just kind of out of body that you don't even know?

35:49George Riley:Well, some top tips for writing a top line.

35:54Straight Diva:For all the young divas who want to be able to.

35:56George Riley:Let's think, let's think, let's think. Okay, so I have had a few things where recently, because people ask me to do a lot more like dance music top lines and things at the moment. People have been sending me some very shit songs. I haven't asked recently, I thought, really? Sure. This? Okay. I will say, look, I think the standard is not that high, you know? So just do whatever you want. I don't know. I don't know. Great. Just have a go. Just have a go. Just have a go. Everyone's shit, so it doesn't matter. No, that's for you. That's kind of like my motivation of doing anything. I'm just like, well, so many people are successful.

36:37George Riley:Everyone else is shit. So like, I'm doing like something. I like it. And I'm a very harsh critic of myself. So I think, yeah, you know. Yeah. But like tips though. I don't have any tips. I'm sorry.

36:54Straight Diva:That's okay. That's fierce. It sounds effortless, so it doesn't... If it feels effortless, oh, that's what I would say.

36:59George Riley:If it's effortless, it's good. Yeah. Period. If it's hard, leave it there. Yeah. I would say.

37:04Straight Diva:That's great. How do you balance having such a cool, blase attitude about what we did in the studio, what I wrote then, that's it, and being self-critical?

37:19George Riley:Well... Sorry, that's a really hard question. I don't... Well, the thing is, it's like, when I get home, I have a lot of dread. And I think about my life. I think about who I am as an artist, why I'm here, why I'm doing any of this. Is it any good? Does anyone give a fuck about this at all? Anyone know who I am at all? Why does this teenager do my...

38:46George Riley:Who's the teenager? I don't even want to say. I don't want to say I am jealous. Sombra? No. So I don't know, like the music part of it, the thing is anyone can get a lot of joy from being creative though. That's the thing, like even if you're not good at it, like you can get a lot of good feelings, for lack of a better saying, a lot of good, like it's an amazing emotional outlet. So like regardless of whether it's good or not, I'm going to feel great doing it because it's like really what I love. I love singing, guys. Like, it's just so fab. Like, I'm hearing you talk about on the pod, like, you know, it's like getting really into like the thinking about singing and the voice as an instrument.

39:30George Riley:It's so fun. That part of it is just really like pure and like genuine and nice. Everything else is just like, oh God. I think it's the fact that everything has to feel, in my head, I'm like, it's contrived because I'm thinking about it so much. But then to everyone else, they're not really thinking about that. But in my head, I'm going, this is ridiculous. Yeah.

39:49Straight Diva:You know, are you one of those like, cause I'm a similar kind of thing where I was like, I won't, I won't mention something about like a mixer, for example, and then like in the second verse, like they would like a sound and forever. I will just think every time that song comes on, I'll be like, that sounds going to go off in three, two, one that happens. And I'm like, fuck that.

40:05George Riley:Well, as in like a mix that you've, yeah, oh yeah. Oh no, I do think about that. Yeah, the mix is fine. Oh, I do think about that.

40:10Straight Diva:And then it'll be like, yeah, I must say, I'm the same. It takes so much time. It's so much effort. And I've got all these notes, blah, blah, blah.

40:16George Riley:Oh my God.

40:17Straight Diva:And I'm just like, there was some song, I had this song called Close to God once and like it's taken down now, but every time I took it down, babe, I took every, honestly, when I signed the management day, I took like everything down. Really? Wait,

40:27George Riley:how much music did you have out before?

40:28Straight Diva:I wrote four repeats. Really? Yeah. Wow.

40:31George Riley:How did you decide to take it down?

40:34Straight Diva:Because it's all flopped Tina. But who cares? Because I want to talk about it. Well, this is also the thing is, it's so fake. I have thought about that as well. It's like a fresh new kind of bullshit. Yeah. I mean, I'm a new artist. Yeah. And then it's also fake, because then it's like, who's nominated for new artist this year? And they've got like three albums. Lizzo got new artist, and she had like four albums. Would you guys like a Grammy? Yeah.

40:54George Riley:Sure, why not? I love it all.

40:55Straight Diva:I want EGOT. How am I getting that one? Do you know what I mean? That'd be fierce. I want EGOT, and I want a private jet.

41:00George Riley:Yeah. Private jet. I want to go on other people's jets. Yeah.

41:05Straight Diva:I'd like my own. I just would. Jenny would be nice. I just would. Honestly, I'd love to be rich. I can't lie. It would be so nice. To have like struggled with money so much as a young person just working at cafes. I'm like, I can't. Yeah. I can't have this feather. It's just, it can't, it's not for me. It's just not fun. Yeah. Yeah, it's not fun. George, do you believe in the idea of guilty pleasures in music?

41:28George Riley:Oh, well, okay. Jojo Siwa, for instance. Okay. So I used, I feel like I used to be more of like someone that would say guilty pleasure, but now I'm just like, just enjoy it, whatever. Jojo Siwa, what's the song? I've done a little bit I should have known the thing is the more it comes on the more I'm just like hang on guys did we miss something here it is a hit it is a hit it is a hit wake it up yeah wake it up

She did another one. There was that weird cover. Has she written a song about Chris Hughes yet?

42:18George Riley:Probs. I just don't want to hear it.

42:19Straight Diva:I do think, honestly, there is something unfun about if you are gay and then go straight for it, it isn't for you. Yeah, 100%. Do you know what I mean? It's just so sad. Speaking of Chris Hughes, are you a reality TV fan? I do. What's your garbage, George?

42:34George Riley:I'm watching Maths UK. It's kind of the lowest of the low. Do you feel like this season,

42:39Straight Diva:have you watched the other seasons?

43:14Straight Diva:was the wrath for the other guy big yagum did you watch the season with that thomas the liver puddley and gay where he's like and he talked like that and he was like and he was like you're a bitch you're a bitch yeah yeah that was the best season ever that got me into it but maths uk's

43:30George Riley:maths uh yeah i didn't watch big brother again either not really and then i've i'm not really watching i'll tell you what i watch sometimes i'll watch um housewives love um what location um salt lake city love i've heard i'm surprised someone say salt lake yeah because they're all so interesting it's like the mormons right it's like the mormon whole thing and then you're like i'm like it's very invested in you're a born again christian no no i'm just like i'm just like it's so interesting yeah like how their their religion and then they all moved to utah and what's going on that woman who ended up killing or no trying to kill her child because she thought the devil was in him

44:15Straight Diva:there's all this crazy and then the money laundering there's all the fraud on housewives

44:23George Riley:yes and then one of them goes to prison on camera it's crazy that's sick okay salt lake i need to

44:30Straight Diva:because I've never watched The Housewives other than the best bits in the new league have you seen Atlanta yeah yeah but I've never watched an episode of it

45:13Straight Diva:uh oh yeah what is it

45:14George Riley:what's that dirty Adam

45:37George Riley:The songs are so so so bad They really are

45:41Straight Diva:I used to watch the show called Terraced House On Netflix

45:45George Riley:Oh is it a dating show but it's Korean Yes Is it Korean

45:50Straight Diva:I was about to say I couldn't remember if it was Korean or Japanese Yeah I've heard of it Terraced House I love like Four in a Bed Four in a Bed And like I've come down with me Yeah I've come down With these special events So good Four in a Bed I like Fat Family Sorry But like Throwback to Fat Family It's fierce Terrace House is Japanese Apologies to Terrace House It's basically like Gogglebox But instead of Watching TV They're watching people All go into a house And like form friendships Or relationships But they did that with The Oh There was a gay dating show As well where that happened And that was on Netflix And they probably did it first Oh Oh, Queer Ultimatum.

46:27George Riley:Is that Queer Ultimatum? That was good.

46:30Straight Diva:I also like...

46:30George Riley:The best being some Queer Ultimatum. That was... Oh, what was the one?

46:33Straight Diva:Open. Is it Open House? Did you watch that one on 24? Oh, I've seen that. Where they're all fucking and sucking on TV. Really? Yeah, they're couples that want to open up so they go on TV for it.

46:42George Riley:Oh, I've seen that. It was crazy. I've seen it. I've seen it. I've seen like two episodes.

46:45Straight Diva:Getting like turned out on TV. Wow. And I like Embarrassing Bodies.

46:50George Riley:Yes.

46:52Straight Diva:Favourite is...

46:53George Riley:Oh, my gran used to love that. at the show.

46:56Straight Diva:What's it called? Oh, oh, oh. Make an attraction. That's the best. That's how me and Laura became friends. My best friend, Laura. You met on the show? Yeah, we met on the show. We got on a date. No. We used to watch that every Thursday. That was it.

47:09George Riley:RIP to my nan. She was really into that show. RIP diva. She used to love. She used to love Norma.

47:15Straight Diva:Gorgeous.

47:15George Riley:She used to love like something, you know, outrageous on telly. She would love. And what was the one where Gillian McKeith fainted? Oh, I'm a slug. I'm a slug. Back in the day Back in the day Those eras of I'm a Celeb Back in the day Obviously not anymore But like Love that When there was that The poo thing With Julian McKeith Oh, I don't know

47:32Straight Diva:What are you doing On I'm a Celeb Julian McKeith Is like one of my Favourite niche celebrities She's not even a doctor, right?

47:38George Riley:Is she not? No, apparently It's like a whole lot She's just a psychopath

47:41Straight Diva:Yeah, she's just a crazy woman She's just there

47:44George Riley:I just can't imagine Watching it now though Like H, give a fuck

47:46Straight Diva:H, I know Or that big, big jinx

47:48George Riley:Sorry, girl

47:48Straight Diva:Angry jinx Who's that? Exactly He's a streamer Okay streaming you have me him and h are like already mates so they're just like oh fine tearing it up they're just they're in their own little group speaking in mancunian accents people just like these guys have got chemistry oh wow okay um okay and if that's your kind of like garbage to unwind yeah you're kind of maybe getting a little stressed with all the kind of day-to-day drama that comes with being an artist and on social media indeed yada yada um what do What would you do that's like kind of maybe more wholesome or distracting to kind of -

48:26George Riley:I love to make a roast chicken. Oh. I love roast chicken.

48:30Straight Diva:Talk us through George Riley's roast chicken.

48:31George Riley:Okay, so I'm a great cook guys. I actually used to be a chef. Fuck off. Talk about it. Yes, yes. So I was a chef at a Senegalese restaurant when I was at uni for three years. Then I worked in - Where'd you go uni? Leeds. Nice. Then I was an agency chef and then I was a CDP at a fancy gastropub.

48:50Straight Diva:Chef de.

48:51George Riley:That's sick. Come to party.

48:53Straight Diva:Oh. Oh my God. Yeah, guys.

48:56George Riley:So yeah, basically, I'm a great cook. And one of my favorite things to make is very basic, but it's just a roast chicken. But I just love, I just love roast chicken. What do you shove in it? It's a lot of butter. I'm not gonna lie, it's like 80 % butter on the chicken. I'm putting a lot of butter on the, like massage on the chicken. That under the skin. Under the skin or on top of the skin? I'll put it on top. But sometimes I'll... I have done that. I have done that. Get all up inside, et cetera, et cetera. So in the past, I have whizzed up a bit of thyme, garlic, some spices and stuff with the butter, and I will rub that on top as well.

49:32George Riley:But if I can't be asked, I'll just rub the butter on top and I'll put all the stuff inside, like garlic, lemon, thyme, different herbs. Unreal. All purpose, cumin. No, not cumin. What's the one? that's Jamaican.

49:50Straight Diva:Jamaican sweet.

49:51George Riley:It begins with a P, pimento. Ooh. I will sometimes put fennel, sliced fennel underneath. Underneath. Which is really nice. A bit of sliced fennel underneath, or sometimes like leeks and fennel underneath. Yeah, yeah, I love. Garlic, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And the key is to getting a really moist, delicious chicken is to put it on really hot for 15. Yeah. Like 220 plus. And then we're turning it down to 190 for half an hour. and you think it's not going to be cooked but honestly if you follow the packets

50:20Straight Diva:it's really really good it's dry town

50:23George Riley:and who wants that

50:24Straight Diva:and are you psychopathic enough to cut the spine out of the chicken I believe they call it spatchcocking

50:32George Riley:I've spatchcocked you don't believe the hype I could fuck around and do a spatchcock I wouldn't really it's like

50:42Straight Diva:basically you chop out the spine before

50:45George Riley:so you lay her so she's flatter

50:49Straight Diva:and then she cooks more evenly

50:51George Riley:the thing is if you're doing a barbecue then obviously it's good because you're getting it down there

50:58Straight Diva:Bill's definitely spatchcocked he doesn't when he does like roast chicken I'd actually like roast chicken when he comes back

51:05George Riley:and obviously roasties really nice so yeah goose fat Also, tandoori seasoning. It makes it taste like they're cheesy. There's something crazy. So when you're doing the fluffing, before that, sorry, when you get your tray down with the goose fat oil, butter and stuff like that, put the spices into that oil. So like tandoori seasoning, cumin, garlic. A bit.

51:36George Riley:What do you mean?

51:37Straight Diva:Well, yes. I hope it's not burning.

51:40George Riley:can you put it too early or does it not burn oh you know you don't want to burn it yeah true true you need to keep an eye keep an eye you put it in you mix it you're right you are right and then you get the fluffy potatoes in there you give it a good mix and that's going in there for like an hour crispy and delicious yeah this needs to be a new table for our guests a bit is so good that's really kicking me out so good so yeah i love to cook yeah love the fuck wake it up wake it up babe when it's if it's available yeah yeah yeah if it's available

52:23George Riley:so good um i did my first exercise session of 2025 two weeks ago oh my god good What a word, like a class. I did, no, I actually just walked on incline at the gym. I've never been to a gym. And it's so great because you can scroll through TikTok when you're on the treadmill. Exactly, or watch a little YouTube.

52:42Straight Diva:Yeah, you feel like a hamster or not. Yeah, I hate the gym. But my gym's got no one in it.

52:47George Riley:It's like, it's a boxing gym. Oh. So they've got like the bit that's the gym that no one ever uses because they're all boxing. Okay, because they're all fighting.

52:53Straight Diva:Yeah. It's kind of fierce. I don't like that. We have a, do you know, Samsung TVs, they come with Samsung Health and it's like a free like a wee thing yeah yeah basically and it's just like free workout videos so you need to pay for like the whole thing but you can just do the same three over and over so me and the wife just go down there and just do workouts and that yeah I start doing push ups that's my thing yeah I watch on

53:17George Riley:YouTube yeah same a little

53:20Straight Diva:talk us through that do 30 push ups and then an ab workout yeah but why do you want to get hench because you want to knock man out

53:27George Riley:It's nice to feel strong

53:28Straight Diva:Yeah I think it is nice to feel strong Like I really I mean I don't Like I can give a fuck what it looks like You don't want to be a tiny little butt Yeah I'd like to know That if I needed to fight I could fight

53:38George Riley:Yes Do you know what I mean I've gotten a bit scared Same I was on the tube And this man was walking around Going I'm going to strangle someone Yeah

53:45Straight Diva:Oh I was like oh I was like well it won't be me Do you forget how crazy Some of the stuff you hear on the tube is Babe People are smoking crack on the tube There was a man Yeah I've seen him recently smoking crack on the bus i used to get that a lot i used to have an old camp road and i'd get on the bus and like and like it's weird to now know what crack smells like like i know like i know i've accidentally smoked crack oh good for you was it good was it fierce yeah that's really no it was an accident that's fierce wow that's really what did you think it was i was like 17

54:17George Riley:oh my god that's um i don't know i thought i was just like yeah let's have it yeah but But it was crack.

54:25Straight Diva:What did you think it was? I don't know.

54:27George Riley:I don't know. I think I was just like. You are amazing.

54:29Straight Diva:You're in my mind to kind of be asking questions. It's just like, let us get into it. Yeah. Yeah. Wake it up. Wake it up. And you managed to be the kind of severe, addictive nature of it.

54:39George Riley:Because it only happened once. I think at that age. Yeah, exactly. I think at that age. I mean, yeah. Everything goes at that age, doesn't it? I don't know. Yeah. Yeah. It was all mixed in the pie. Yeah. all things going on and it was every you know it was a tough time it was a fun time it was a tough

54:56Straight Diva:time yeah i feel like until 22 it was like everything was just go and then at 22 i think it's like you're like wait hang on a sec yeah yeah am i addicted to that yeah exactly do i need to quit smoking blah blah oh god i need to quit smoking is sexual liberation fun yeah yeah exactly No, 100%. Give me the argument against sexual liberation.

55:18George Riley:Well, it's the climate. It's like a nice idea. But then when you get out there, you're like, actually, what's going on? And who are you? But also, yeah.

55:29Straight Diva:Where are you? It's also that thing. It's like, sexual liberation is fun until you have to fuck men. And then the issue then just stands alone. The issue is always men.

55:39George Riley:Yes, exactly. And that's the thing. It's terrifying. Yeah. too many terrifying things have happened yeah basically unfortunately but alas so yeah

55:50Straight Diva:live to tell the tale yeah thank god you smashed it and now you're releasing amazing music there we go there we go i should put it more in the music can't be us she's gonna sing about flicking the bean instead flick the bean so nice

You should be a manager. There we go. Exactly. Have you guys got mailing lists? No, I have a WhatsApp group instead. Okay, okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

57:47Straight Diva:So that's where we went. Which is exhausting. Really? Yeah. It is. I love them. Sue has one of the most active WhatsApp chats in the country. Really? Yeah, we have like, it's people are chatting.

57:57George Riley:How many people have been on your WhatsApp? 500, 600. That's unreal. That's so good.

58:01Straight Diva:The girlies are on there and it's really, really sweet because it's like it's a community of people that aren't necessarily from London and they all just come together and they all just chat in there. Love. And then like one thing I do is I feel like I do let them down a little bit like I don't talk in it as much as I'd like to. How much are you talking?

58:15George Riley:You could not talk in it. It's like

58:18Straight Diva:it's active every day all day. This is today.

58:20George Riley:Oh my gosh. Oh and then they're just like

58:22Straight Diva:spam bots that come in and I just have to come in and mother and delete them.

58:25George Riley:Wow.

58:26Straight Diva:So yeah.

58:27George Riley:That's amazing. Fab.

58:29Straight Diva:Yeah. Any highlights to pick out? Oh, they're watching the, I love Louis's moments of silence for non-straight divas. What? For non-straight divas? For non-straight divas. Oh, what, because I'm letting the gays talk? Oh, right, yeah, probably means Louis is screaming. Okay, yes. Yeah. Oh, they talk about Lord, because everyone went to Lord last night.

58:50George Riley:Okay, yeah, skip.

58:51Straight Diva:Shut up. Are we doing Agony Ants? Yeah, would you like some Agony Ants? Yes. So obviously we do Agony Ants at the end of the show, we've got people to write in. And the less serious, well, actually, no. Whatever, whatever anyone. Yeah. Yeah. Full disclaimer I like to disclaim to guests that you know We aren't, obviously none of us are qualified You started doing that recently I'm like are you panicking? Oh my god, Charlene from maths

59:15George Riley:I went to a talk that she did about ADHD And intimacy And I was like oh do you need to If I just want to take meds Just on a day where I feel stressed Can I do that? She's like I don't know You should go to your doctor I was like oh

59:31Straight Diva:Why did I come to this talk?

59:33George Riley:yeah but what you could sorry i know i like what are you gonna tell me something useful

59:37Straight Diva:yeah i just think pop a beta blocker fine probably a blocker yeah that's what i'd do but i'm also not a therapist this episode was about you by better help yeah oh my god imagine

59:49George Riley:where's the sponsorship guys better i'll wake it up please hello better help get involved

59:55Straight Diva:on they're sponsoring every other exactly i did try using better help once and the only therapists I got linked up with were like pastors from Florida. Oh. And I don't know, is this really the right therapist?

1:00:09George Riley:Was this picked by AI? Yeah.

1:00:13Straight Diva:Right, are you ready? I'm ready. 28, female. This is what they are. Hi, angels. Hi, angels. I have no one to turn to with this information and I feel like I'm going a little loco. So I've been in love with my best friend for years and don't know if I've ever felt the same feelings and return. We've enjoyed very intimate moments together, i.e. cuddles and hand-holding in bed, and there have been other sights and signs. But I don't know if it's stupid of me to say something and perhaps create a rift or to follow the feelings and take the risk. I've never felt safer and closer to another person than I do with him.

1:00:44Straight Diva:My heart is torn. For extra context, I'm a trans girlie and he is gay, in quotation marks, but been with women in the past. Okay.

1:00:54George Riley:Yes.

1:00:55Straight Diva:Did we? Yes. into the mic which is kind of rule number one of a podcast yeah it was um someone was like i've been in love with my friends for 10 years and so he was like well you've been in love with them for 10 years and i haven't done anything about it so i don't know and i was like depends how many

1:01:08George Riley:friends you got depends how hot this person but if they're like in bed together is that not i mean how can that i mean i've definitely had a situation where you're like what the fuck's going on girl but then i didn't say what the fuck's going on girl yeah but then it also as

1:01:20Straight Diva:It is fun to like, I think that like toying about bit is like just push it.

1:01:26George Riley:I think so.

1:01:27Straight Diva:Do you know what I mean? Just like it's fun. I'm very like, all right.

1:01:30George Riley:I couldn't live the rest of my life

1:01:31Straight Diva:not knowing. Exactly.

1:01:33George Riley:It's like if you end up not being friends, it will be sad, but you will get over it. Yeah.

1:01:37Straight Diva:And also with the part about being like trans and him being gay and whatever the fuck. Girl, none of that matters.

1:01:41George Riley:Exactly. Like all people, if you're in love, you're in love. If you're not.

1:01:45Straight Diva:Then you're not. God, we woke that up. Yeah. Yeah. Just do it. Act upon it. who needs friends anyway exactly oh this one's a weird one um 31 and trying to thrive how do i ask a guy why does he have lump on his balls hell oh why well i would just be like what

1:02:05George Riley:is that lump yeah exactly no but that's seriously what's that what's that then so why is that there

1:02:13Straight Diva:then god um what do you i would rephrase the question i would just be like so what's that then yeah just go like darling do you know you about the lump on your butt like i

1:02:26George Riley:don't want to alarm you let's have a look at it let's get the torch yeah let's take a couple pics

1:02:30Straight Diva:like i'm here to help let's send it to the gpu yeah yeah i think that's embarrassing bodies um i guess that's the only way in it like it's more like yeah like you could ignore it but then you might be getting it and also if they're like really

1:02:43George Riley:defensive about the lump and it's just like, well, I don't know what, you know, it's your body and there might be something wrong with it. So, yeah, exactly. What do you want me to do? Not look at the lump on your balls? Yeah, exactly.

1:02:53Straight Diva:Yeah, I mean, it's not looking good. Yeah. They should get that checked.

1:02:56George Riley:Yeah. What if it turns people? Yeah, I think you need.

1:02:58Straight Diva:Well, yeah, what if it falls off?

1:03:00George Riley:Exactly. I was watching a TikTok about that the other day. Ah. The ball, like it got twisted.

1:03:06Straight Diva:That's what happens with the girlies who tuck, like apparently you can tuck weird and then it cuts off circulation and then they fall out.

1:03:11George Riley:Yeah.

1:03:12Straight Diva:I know, it makes me feel horrible. That's why I never talk. Reframe this, you're helping him. And you can do it in a nice way. Like, babe, I'm actually worried about you. Exactly. And if he takes it the wrong way,

1:03:21George Riley:it's just like, oh.

1:03:22Straight Diva:We don't need it, do you know what I mean? Yeah, exactly. Find someone with some meatballs. Fucking lumpy, babe. Are we ready for another one? 30-something pansexual Ellen Degenerate. Okay. Dear all, I'm in a happy relationship of five plus years. I'm a serial long-term daddy seeker who seeks emotional connection over everything else. I developed a crush on my partner's close friend. We often hang out together and have even been on holidays of three. I let the crush go. But to my surprise, I recently told me they had feelings for me. I can't stop thinking about them. The additional plot twist is that my partner and them have sexual history and a threesome could be on the cards.

1:03:59Straight Diva:I hear there's too many emotions at play and it could all be crumbling down. Or would it be fun? help love you all very much also this is a friend of the pod oh love you um and we'll yeah we'll talk about this later gosh it definitely does sound fun yeah no it does your outlook is so beautiful i'm obsessed that's so good from our ivory towers of like none of the consequences of it going exactly it sounds really fun it does yeah

1:04:29George Riley:but if i'd be stressed that if they've already done bits then does that mean that the threesome would occur and then it's like are we meant to be in a throuple now okay so this is the thing

1:04:42Straight Diva:like could there just be a way that you could just like fuck like because this is the thing i think especially with gay people like i don't know because i'm still in my own tea everyone's fucked everyone yeah is what i'm saying especially like it could be fine yeah so i think it's just kind of like i'm friends with people who i've had sex with 100 you know what i mean it's like as is everyone else and i think perhaps there could just be an open and honest conversation it's like look i think he's like that's it like we're forgot sorry so i don't know if i missed it but are we talking like purely sexual here oh yeah because their friends said they were in love yeah and they said the the person professed feelings they've put yeah the person professed feelings but the person's been with their partner previously.

1:05:27Straight Diva:We need more information. I don't know if we're talking like break up with your partner and get with this person or like let's have a threesome.

1:05:32George Riley:Because it's like, are they in love with the partner and still want to be with them forever and they just want to like step out for a bit of fun.

1:05:37Straight Diva:So the additional plot twist is that my partner and them have a sexual history and a threesome could be on the cards. But I fear there's too many emotions at play and it could all come crumbling down. Well, it could all come crumbling down but the fact that you're writing into a podcast about whether you should do it or not tells me you kind of want to do it.

1:05:54George Riley:I think you should talk to the partner first and just work it out. I mean, you two. How would you bring it to the partner? Oh, they're so sexy. Oh, God, because then you've got to tell them that the friend's in love with them.

1:06:05Straight Diva:Yeah. Yeah. It's tricky.

1:06:08George Riley:Well, you can have an initial chat about, like...

1:06:12Straight Diva:Yes, yes. About monogamy. Not naming any names. Not naming any names.

1:06:16George Riley:Just seeing, just checking, just testing the water. Yeah. And then beyond that, then you're like, oh like what was it like when you fucked a friend yeah because i can't stop thinking about it

1:06:26Straight Diva:yeah by the way yeah a very good lover um or you could just be like yeah if they're like open to monogamy be like look basically this i honestly think honesty is genuinely the best i agree and i think yeah i've been with your partner and i know you and your partner love each other very

1:06:42George Riley:much like i really don't they really honesty them yeah yeah you know them honesty out yeah okay

1:06:48Straight Diva:heavy on it the thing is

1:06:50George Riley:if anything ever comes out further down the line that wasn't honest yeah it would just fuck everything exactly like you're

1:06:57Straight Diva:the only way to get it would just fuck everything it will or you could just fuck everything it would just fuck everything get open I'm fucking I'm really enjoying these let's keep going let's keep going yeah let's keep going um Pandora jewellery brings the sparkle to your summer now with even better prices enjoy up to 50 % off select styles from personalized pieces to must-have favorites made for the summer. 1:08:10Sorry

1:08:11Straight Diva:Freaky dilemma do we have next They're all just like Sexual open relationship Basically We've got such a horny audience It seems How do I tell my sexist lab supervisor to piss off

1:08:26George Riley:Oh sexist lab supervisor Okay so you're at uni Yeah

1:08:31Straight Diva:Or are you working in a lab

1:08:34George Riley:No, or you work in a lab.

1:08:35Straight Diva:Yeah.

1:08:39George Riley:That's tough. I kind of need to know more about the lab supervisor.

1:08:43Straight Diva:Rage bait them into sending you inappropriate texts and then get them sacked.

1:08:48George Riley:I like that.

1:08:49Straight Diva:Okay, yeah.

1:08:49George Riley:Or what I've done before is also just like be really weird. Like to like quite a crazy degree. And then they're just like, you're a freak. Yeah. One time. Here we go.

1:09:00Straight Diva:Let's go.

1:09:00George Riley:Someone was like, I was trying to just like, Like they were in a situation, but this is a different situation, obviously. I said, I don't want to be friends. We're not friends. Let's just leave it there. And they would not leave it there. Like we're friends, we're friends. I sent them a voice note where I was just like.

1:09:17George Riley:They didn't call me again. It worked. I just sent them like kind of crazy. Yeah. It was like, I was talking and then I just went full. Yeah.

1:09:29Straight Diva:I left tongue.

1:09:31George Riley:Yeah.

1:09:31Straight Diva:leave them for dead

1:09:32George Riley:and they were just like wow

1:09:35Straight Diva:wow they say that though in it like with like men like with men like tried to come up to you and talk to you just say like you act really weird yeah

1:09:43George Riley:yeah or you could be like I've got leprosy

1:09:45Straight Diva:yeah no no

1:09:47George Riley:I was reading about that recently because before people were really it was very very stigmatised yeah during some war I can't remember which war it was someone had leprosy so they were like able to go between enemy lines because no one would touch them so they had kept all of their like

1:10:00Straight Diva:important maps and stuff so yeah the gag is have you heard the alan car so this is awful and i'm sorry and like end of stigma but i just need to tell this story because it's quite funny but alan carl was saying i was just to play my face podcast and he was like the worst thing that he's ever done is like he was out when he was younger and it's with this girl and they were kiki and her boyfriend came got jealous of alan and he bit his ear and alan turned around this is so bad Alan Carr bit his ear. No, no. He bit Alan's ear because he thought Alan was like flirting with his thing. Oh, wow. So then Alan was bleeding so Alan turned around and went, well, that's sad for you because I've got AIDS.

1:10:39Straight Diva:It's obviously, I was at... Is that common knowledge? Yeah, he said it on a podcast. Wow. Crazy. But he said it's the worst thing he's ever done.

1:10:46George Riley:Can you get AIDS from the mouth?

1:10:49Straight Diva:No, I think you can... No, but from the blood from his ear.

1:10:52George Riley:but ingesting in the mouth. No, ingesting in the mouth. No, because you can I think so.

1:10:56Straight Diva:No, you can't. Let's talk about AIDS transmission. Yeah, I think it is just like... Alan, sorry, that doesn't even... Chat, somebody drop off. No, I think it is just set. I thought it was blood. No, I think you could do... You can give someone head, though, innit? Yeah, I think so. Let's find out. Yeah, chat, let us know. Please comment. Ooh, someone said, why wouldn't X sell your items on Vinted?

1:11:19George Riley:Why would they?

1:11:20Straight Diva:Yeah.

1:11:22George Riley:Why would they? They didn't want them?

1:11:24Straight Diva:Yeah.

1:11:28George Riley:you didn't pick them up in time because they didn't want them and they didn't want to speak to you unfortunately yeah that would be sad though especially if it was like it would be

1:11:35Straight Diva:air pods more importantly how do you know this you stalking them on vented i do think that so

1:11:40George Riley:if things are left there long enough it gets contaminated by the bad vibes yeah i've left

1:11:44Straight Diva:so much like my first ex who was awful he had i had like merch from back in the day that i'm just It's like, that was my only piece of that because I sold the rest. What's your policy on clothes? Giving back? No, no, no. Like, um... I like to wear them. If your ex never asked them back, and it was like a nice item, a nice jumper, are you still wearing it? Or is it like, I can't wear this? What, so they bought it then? Oh, I see what you mean. No, no, no. It was just theirs, and then you borrowed it. I think it's fine.

1:12:14George Riley:That bomb is from my ex-boyfriend. I just took it. It depends. I think it's mostly fine.

1:12:19Straight Diva:if the item i'm a bit superstitious though okay so sometimes i do think things have like an item was gifted to them that they never wore so i feel like it's got no vibes because it's like it wasn't even theirs so that was the thing with this jacket i have a car heart jacket my ex-boyfriend's flatmate was a rapper who got gifted a bunch from car heart gave him the jacket he didn't want it my ex-boyfriend was trying to make me pay for this ridiculous fuck off yeah tried to make me you pay for it i sent him 20 quid i was meant to send him 100 quid then we broke up and i was like fuck it so i got a new car jacket for 20 quid there we go but like that was never that's fine exactly yeah i agree we got a final one which is how can i make the winter pain go away winter pain oh it's tough especially january yeah go to mexico yeah i don't have any flights booked i know People are like zoos going.

1:13:17George Riley:Oh, tell you what, I know. I do think like I hate the all new year, new me bullshit. I think this year I'm just going to sit and get comfortable with me.

1:13:27Straight Diva:Yeah.

1:13:54Straight Diva:Exactly. And then hibernate. When does the tour finish?

1:13:57George Riley:The third, fourth or something. Yeah. After that. After that. Yeah. You can hibernate. Then reflecting, sitting down, eating roast chicken. Yeah.
