In short

Lauren Lyle discusses surviving an intense 2025 (burnout, breakup, back-to-back press and filming), her acting process (not “method,” but emotionally immersive), and how she stays grounded (friends, fun, laughter). She also promotes her current play Most Favoured at the Soho Theatre and talks about theater pricing, revivals, and crying techniques for performance.

Guest backgrounds

Sue Perkins is a comedian/presenter and host of the podcast; she and Lauren discuss Sue’s influence on Lauren’s work-life balance.

Key claims

Lauren says she’s not a method actor; she doesn’t “carry” characters like she did on The Rig, where her character’s drug addiction made her physically jittery. She argues the best acting emotion can come from trying not to cry, and that actors can “trick” the body via breathing/panic techniques.

Notable examples

filming Karen Perry (3–4 months; lead in every episode), The Rig (drug-addict role that lingered), and a BBC funeral scene where the director demanded “real tears” and she read a written suicide note on camera. She also describes meeting actors Rory Kinnear and Bobby Carlisle (Trainspotting) and her TikTok persona and comments.

0:34storm zero sugar 200 milligrams of caffeine and immunity support storm energy for life hello hello hello um well you don't you're not really granted the same privileges as everyone else in terms of you haven't really had the same schedule you're you've just been working you talk to me yeah every night you're you're doing a play so you don't really have the january i am doing a play january reset that everyone has i haven't had five days i have um meditated oh wow i have written a list of things i'd be interested in doing for 2026 yeah much of that is um you got it girl and work relax and let it take it as it comes oh take it as it comes you know um do you feel like you're not taking it as it comes or you didn't take it as it comes in 2025?

1:25Nah, I had no choice but to take it as it was coming in 2025. I felt like I was being slapped in the face regularly with fucking fish. There was no thumb in it. There was no way I could control 2025. It was just coming at me like a comet. Like a comet. In a good way or? No. No, I hated 2025. Talk us through 2025 then. Hey, okay. Year begins. Do you know what? It was just, year began in New Zealand. The year began burnt out. I would last the years before I'd done like two years of fairly solid back back to my work yeah I booked yeah I'm busy yeah but in a way it was a bit much and very blessed very blessed genuinely amazing life change so blessed so grateful so grateful but um it was difficult to have any control over life and then um by the end of 2024 I was quite burnt out and I was like Jesus I need a break and then this job called the Ridge came up in New Zealand and it was this really weird cool amazing character and also like go to New Zealand and I used to live in New Zealand so it was like couldn't pass that up so I went out to New Zealand beginning of 25 did this insane job remained more than burnt out came home big breakup um and then Then the year spiraled out into press for my show, Karen Perry season two coming out.

2:52The Ridge came out. I had like constant back to back stuff with that. And just like letting the world smash you in the face, emotionally, physically, everything. But it was summer. So I got my clothes off. Do you know what I mean? Yeah. I wear a lot of short shorts. How do you, I did. How do you as an actor, even like if you're getting booked and busy, you're not in control of whether you can be slapped in the face or not no like how do you how do you keep your head above water when you're when you're so booked and busy um honestly honestly it was like your friends and like i made friends with sue period it's actually so nice hearing you talk about work stuff we became friends this year but it's so nice about hearing about work stuff because i'm like yes she did that good for you girl because we don't really talk about work stuff we just like we just take the picture we just be giggly all the time you're stupid i'm here to talk about work yeah you're very serious so nice i've only met you a few times and i'm like oh you're quite serious on the podcast um how do i keep my head of a project i honestly was like locked into my friends and locked into just i'm very emotional as a person i'm very sensitive i love the laughs i like chase the laughs around life generally i'm fairly like half closet cup half full person and i hadn't been for a while i'd been like looking at the world and i feel like cup half empty whatever it is and so going out with you like doing stuff like that um your partner working at um like the coolest cafe in east london i'd genuinely go there every morning and be like i need to tell you my soul and he'd be like here's a flat white you just sit you just i'm actually working but she's coming yeah um i would just like go out and have fun okay and be silly and like go to the pub i'd look because i'm away all the time for work i don't get to go to the pub all the time and like i miss that i miss like my mates and like being silly and like properly socializing because on things like karen it's like i don't get a minute of time off and on things like the ridge i had no time off you just like locked into scripts there's rewrites all the time you're learning lines you're knackered you're on set constantly it's like 14 hour days and then you're off and then on something like karen it's like my show so you're also trying to be a hit like across everything else that comes with being the lead in a show so i just like to have fun yeah those especially the karen episodes i like films it's like stranger things type shit like it's like one hour 20 per yeah they're literally called film one film two yeah yeah yeah they are because that's the format that they sort of decided then like sherlock did it and they said it worked so they did it on karen and they do yeah so they're all like an hour and they're all like basically two hour episodes yeah so you've and you shoot them like fairly in tandem with each other it is out of sync but fairly together um so yeah it's mad yeah and also she's like i'm literally the name of the show so she's just in every bit of it apart from the flashbacks like the past where she investigates that like case from the past I'm in all of it which I like I do love it but it is how do you find like when you're acting sorry to interrupt you no but um it's okay you're safe is everyone okay yeah is everyone safe are we definitely recording yeah good point yeah we're recording so oh that'd be bad are we all recording yay okay great well done the ADHD kicked in hello can I say wake that up wow I've learnt things from Sue not good things but how do you find so for example when you're filming Karen how long are the filming processes Karen's like 3-4 months and how do you find are you one of those actors that like embodies the character or are you like do you like feel do you feel it leave your body when you leave the 3-4 months or like are you just like girl i'm carrying when i'm on and when i'm because i saw like an interview with tony collett where she's like bitch that doesn't exist those people that are like method are weirdos kind of thing or that it's a very uh masculine thing there's no yes robert pattison said recently he was like you'll never like when have you ever seen someone be method and not be a dickhead like it's just yeah he said that yeah wow yeah timothy shalmay also said recently he was like no shade to the method like i guess he's kind of like he stays in character who does everything he can to stay character or not he was he says to avoid losing the character but he's not method i would say i'm not method at all i definitely don't take it like i don't carry like karen's like weird and funny and silly and she's a detective like i'm not going home yeah investigating my fucking flat but um the ridge weirdly actually the ridge was the first one i ever had where i did kind of didn't mean to take it home a bit but she was a drug addict and a bit of a psychopath and so it was like my notes all day every day would be like remember that like you've not had drugs in 12 hours and you've just done this really terrible thing I don't want to spoil it if anyone's going to watch it but you've just done this really terrible thing and so I'd have to be like physically jittery all day and physically like edgy all day and so taking that home like your body does kind of not forget that like it does kind of hold on to it for a bit so i'd be like in the summer in new zealand taking baths all the time trying to relax um but what about in zoolander um i think zoolander impossible to not take home he just is that though isn't he he is he is okay so you're not a method actor no no but i do like to like i don't know if i'm in an accent now coming in out of an accent yeah i like an accent things like that but no i don't i have to have a giggle on set like i have to have a laugh like even on toxic town the show toxic time for netflix and it was an amazing cast like amy lou wood rory cannear like begbie from train spotting bobby carlisle all these amazing people really cool and it was a really serious topic and we all still were like we have to have a laugh right and so we're all pissing around as well i'd like but like it was kind of amazing being with actors of that level as well because we'd all be good at what we were doing really on it with the work but be able to serve yeah like take the piss as well of each other and have fun is bobby a king is who bobby a king king yeah i thought because i was gonna meet um i was like a double act with rory cannear and rory cannear played um in black mirror he was the prime minister that fucked the pig yeah you know how i made it yeah yeah yeah so i was like well i'm meeting the prime minister like i haven't met rory before and as as an actor he's someone that i've like looked at as like the pinnacle of actors for a long time so i was like i'll meet the prime minister oh my god and then the first day i went in i went got put into the green room and it was him and bobby carlisle sat there and rory was like hello yes hi quite kind of posh english you think yeah and bobby carlisle bobby was like you're right darling how you doing away from Glasgow and I was like oh my god I'm home and he was amazing and then by about half an hour later Rory Kinnear was like so Lauren when was the last time you did a Rory Pooley and I was like oh we're gonna have fun and then we did and Bobby was like hey sweetheart take my number we'll all get a drink and all that that's so nice yeah he was great he tweeted my son once uh oh I thought he said he tweeted your son no I was like what What?

10:29It was a crazy few years. No, he tweeted my song back when I was releasing music at like uni. He don't know how the fuck he found my song, but he found it and he was like tweeting about it. Oh, he's so nice. He does like roundups of like music he's loving. I swear that was him from Trainspotting. Yeah. Yeah, Bobby. Yeah. Okay, but he's cool. He's like, he's got kids. He's got kids. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think it is him. Begbie. Yeah, he like tweeted my new one. Trainspotting tweeted your song. Yeah. Robert Carlyle. Yeah. Yeah. He tweets new music roundups every like week. Like Obama. Do you reckon it's his daughter's just doing it?

10:59He was fierce as fuck. I was like, what the fuck? I just woke up one day and I was like mentioned by him on Twitter. It was crazy. That's sick. You'll probably find it. Yeah. That's really cool. Yeah, that's fun. Lauren, how does it feel to be... Sorry. Go on. I had nothing to say. How does it feel to be friends with an influencer? Like, so I think. I've never... As someone that's been around some famous people before. Yeah. I've never... And got friends. I've got famous friends. Never been more disgusted. I've never walked around London and had someone be stopped more than you. Aw. You get...

11:25East London, specifically. yeah yeah let's go let's go half mile radius but walking around and it's very this it's very yeah hi oh my god hon hi and it's people genuinely that love and adore you i can see why i love and adore you oh i love and you are the you're so funny and quick and um talented and weird and i thing and a bit clap but it's fine but um it's really cool do you know what's crazy i when i first met you i so i met you through your through your partner bill yeah um and me and bill met a primavera and everyone told me that like his girlfriend and i was like oh yeah yeah and then i met you the first time and i was like oh my god it's you yeah it's the girl that does the field tiktoks and then you've also done them and now i've met you i'm like oh wow and whenever i would describe you to people i would say yes so she's like she does the tech talk where it's like hi i'm sue for i work at mns and i like i like booming or like being fisted or something but i could never do a proper impression yeah wait can you do one do one that used to do um uh there was definitely an mns one yeah there was definitely yeah my name's well i like to go like regional sue likes to just go vile sue goes vile yeah and like maybe slightly older i lean on my regional so like i'll go like jordy like but like fucking no i'm just like what's it all about like it's just love love is lovely women's rivenly it's not good just come out with i'm just like hi i'm rebecca i'm 42 and i love fisting i love to get fisted like a dirt pig yeah that's it sue changed my life with the field videos i mean yeah it kind of was crazy i just got served on tiktok i just got served on tiktok they did blow up it was crazy and i guess in ways comfy 4k 14k likes at one point i think i think they were like i remember yeah 114 no 14k oh there's more i think there's one with like nearly 100 000 likes say it all right yeah well there is i'm proud of it i think also as well like they made straight diva so hell yeah wake it up are you on tiktok lauren are you yeah i am i like loosely use tiktok though like i wish i was a bit more my favorite thing is when you do tiktoks the comments are amazing it's like wait i just saw this and i had to double take it's you i love it so much it's because like a heavy part of my fan base is an outlander fan base which is a big american show and that's like where i got my that's like where i began and they all they're like oh my god i thought there was just this normal girl that i knew from school it's marceli from outlander and i'm just talking about grapes like i have this one where it's just my thoughts on grapes and that did well that video yeah my ones where i'm trying harder and they never work it's always ones where i'm like that's it isn't it the case yeah the least effort possible yeah and so now i'm trying to because i'm doing this play that you mentioned i'm doing play most favorite at the soho theater yeah it's really good um but we're trying to like do fucking reels and shit for that yeah and it's like i'm putting effort in and the ones that are minimal effort do well yeah what's that about it always is the case though it's always the case so annoying It feels like it's the most, it's the least barriers up.

14:41It's like the most accessible. If you've got like no production value, it's like, it's just you. Well, I thought people would be into, because we're doing it in the theater, like on an iPhone, et cetera. But I thought because we'd be in a theater, people would be like, ooh, what's this weird? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Backdrop, but they don't seem to care. No, it's the bedroom or nothing. Yeah. Oh. Yeah. Hello. Hello. I mean, he's sat in the bedroom. Yeah. Well, exactly. you should get on the end of the bed and just go like oh yeah maybe what's my next TikTok? what should I do? oh my god just say something vile talk about the thing I'm not trying to ruin the play we're going to talk about the play now but be like hi my name is whatever your character's name and I like to get pumped by a man in hopes to get pregnant okay just say something vile always works for me camera high on the end of the bed yeah yeah a bit of booby pink panther says the sound yeah and then what would your caption be um come to my show come to bed with me yeah or something about like something about your type being and actually no I can't say that because that would yeah yeah yeah that would ruin it we can't ruin it so speaking on most favoured we have seen it we have seen it thank you for having us it was fine oh shut up no it was so good I loved it it was brilliant it was amazing Louis texted me after or messaged me actually you don't have my number

16:02messaged me afterwards and he said um you should do this professionally lol i was like good one good one did you like uh actually i think only my comment made it but we me and sue got asked to do oh yeah the video oh my god the classic press night thing yeah i've been the vox pop yeah i've been saying to them like my friends you interviewed some of my friends why have you not posted their things and they were like no we don't we don't have any more and i'm like did you say something so inappropriate that they had nothing we were like the best play oh no you did something about you you did make it on i said it was dynamic yeah that's right love how do you remember that i said it was dynamic and concise concise is what do you mean concise it's 45 minutes right right yeah but can you tell us a bit about the play for people that are now gonna get tickets and go yeah so it's oh it's really funny um it is you've got a man in his underwear most of the time you can look at him up and down i'm in a towel it's a bit dangerous it's all set in a one night stand in a travel lodge and you think that the two of them are there for one thing and then they start revealing actually why they're really there and it's all a bit fucking mental it's mental it's mental i love it's fun i love plays that are set in one room and have two people similarly to tiktok it's like there's no there's no frills yeah yeah i think people are like um is it similar to tiktok current you know current young youthful cool um it's yeah it's got no frills but i think the writings it's written by a guy called david ireland who wrote um a play called the fifth step with martin freeman and jack loudon that just did really well and that play opens with the line i think i'm an incel and then like plays out from there it's all about being it's all about doing the fifth step of aa and it's it's absolutely mad david writes really violent plays and he also wrote one called ulster american and everyone it's it's like they're amazing so the writing's really good and so you kind of don't need to like spice up with too much right else in terms of set and whatnot and you also don't really have time i think it's quite fun with the space of the theater as well that you're quite close to us so i just basically cry the entire time but like in a funny way and like a hysterical way so good like the way that i used to describe i think i told you it was after that it felt so delicious yeah yeah yeah but it feels so apt and you smile at the end just oh yeah so it's funny i think the moment people go to theater and like people are so burnt out from like shit plays revivals and the same stuff really serious things that are like two and a half hours long it's so refreshing to have like an hour long thing it's not not even an hour it's like 50 minutes now of like funny it's like funny and mad and really entertaining and it's like a night out it feels like a kickoff to a night out or something that's a good point it would be a good prize yeah it's a really good prize yeah yeah it actually is and you can go for dinner after yeah you go for dinner or a big night out so that is very true or to like a so i think gig i was thinking i don't know if i spoke to you about it but like what what in like in theatre more than any other world there's so many revivals as you say.

19:12What's that about? Like music that never happens like oh like Charlie XCX is going to do Beethoven's 5th but she's going to put her own spin on. We'd listen to that. We'd listen to that. We'd listen to that. We'd listen to that. We'd listen to that. We'd listen to that. We'd listen to that. That never happens either. Do you know what I mean? I reckon it's. I think it's bums on seats. I think it's like we're now I think everyone's tailoring theatre to like an ageing white audience of like regular theatre goers that can afford to go to theatre so we'll make stuff that suits them especially I think some plays should just die as well I think they'll just like especially like being around you and Bill and like hearing about what's like coming back for example and being like why why are we wasting our time and money and like oh my god I know like what the fuck is that about yeah like some of them are great I will say but some of them it's just like but a good thing about the Soho Theatre is that unlike maybe if you were going to see i don't know a revival of a shakespeare it's not ridiculously priced like some of the theater shows totally no so it's like i think top prices are like 35 quid which is amazing yeah yeah like some plays are like 150 108 quid it's absolutely mad i took my niece to see the lion king which has been on the fucking west end for how many years like yeah 150 years and it was 80 quid to take a five-year-old and you're like for a shit seat and I was like first shit seat yeah I know what she doesn't even care she wants to stay at the park yeah I can see you the circle of life and dress up if you want Faye's quiz do you know what I mean I would love that the circle of life hey sing it sing it Lauren how do you cry when you need to cry oh yeah sorry that's my phone I've just got constant messages constantly because me and Sue right we're getting a little bit of attention and we're naturally thinking that like maybe we should try acting we should probably just And like naively, very naively and wrongly, I'm like, maybe I could do it.

21:07But the one thing I like have no idea how I do is cry properly sob, though, like not like or maybe subtle crying is even harder. I don't know. But like I wouldn't know where to start. The two things that are like definitely I think the thing I learned was that the most interesting thing to watch is someone trying not to cry because you're never trying to cry. You're always trying not to cry. So you're always trying to do that. i honestly think for me it is being sensitive i do it's very wanky but i do tap into like shit things that have happened to me and like there's things that happen in the play and i'll tap into like insecurities of my own and like sad things that i like think about in my own life and we'll try and channel that through to what's happening i really really try and empathize with who this character is and like you do you do have to be kind of psychotic a little bit i think to an actor to like actually just believe that you are this person for a bit and i do sort of do that um i remember i remember my one of my first jobs it was on this bbc thing with sean being called broken and in the story my story was sean being played this priest and basically all these terrible things happened to his congregation and my storyline was that my mum threw herself off roof and killed herself and so we did the funeral one day and we were in a real graveyard with a real six foot pit and the two boys with john john bishop's son was my actual john bishop's son was my brother in the show john bishop the comedian yeah his son was one of my brothers in the show yeah and then this other guy as well these two boys are quite young at the time it was one of their first things they'd ever done i had not really worked professionally much and the director came over to us and was like right this is your mom's funeral i want real tears i want real stuff no tear sticks because you get tear sticks which is like vix vapor rub and you put it in your eye that can help no tears no tear sticks you have to do it and i was like young actor hungry as fuck 100 no problem at all i'm absolutely gonna believe that my mom's died yes the two boys were like uh john bishop's son was like i don't know what should be what do you mean i'm gonna have to i don't know i don't know and i was like they were like 16 what do i have to cry and um we did it and i'm like swapping away they gave me the the art department wrote a real suicide note from my mum and didn't let me read it until we rolled camera so i then on like first take reading the suicide note was basically reading my mum's suicide note absolutely went again i think you have to be psychotic to imagine that's actually your mom's suicide note that you're doing all that kind of thing but the boys freaked out but i was like yeah give it to me yeah yeah yeah And I don't know how to advise anyone.

23:47People ask that all the time. Like, how do you cry? And I think I tap into stuff and really imagine. You're already going through it. Yeah, I'm actually that person. Well, because it's like, because I asked Bill as well about it because there's a film like Apostle that he's in where he gets drilled in the head to death, which I'm not going to watch. But I was like, how does one successfully act like they're getting drilled in the head to death? I think you have to be like, you just have to rock with it, I guess. Yeah, you have to be so unafraid to be ugly. I think that's something that's helped me in my career is that I'm so unafraid to be ugly and I actually kind of love it I'm kind of like yeah this is what and like I've done the thing where you've got you're going through something awful and I've looked in the mirror and been like god you look terrible right remember what this is like remember just just just clock this for when you have to do a role for maybe this is something that this is what you look like when you're when you're upset and sad you can also trick your body into doing stuff like I have learned how to trick like like on stage you can do breathing stuff and you can do breathing exercises and trick your body and into panic almost yeah and then your body starts to believe what's happening and because like that's the thing what i was talking about in the ridge having been jittery all day your body doesn't know the difference between it being real and not yeah so it thinks what's happening to you is happening to you yeah so it's kind of like re-traumatizing yourself all the time fuck me but that's why i have to go and have fun with my friends yeah that's what i need to get and just have a nice time otherwise do you think you would be because my issue is i think of any like if i was to think back to any traumatic events i don't think i'd cry immediately like do you think you could if i'm not in i think maybe if it was all set up i was all done up we were at the place with this like thing maybe but i like i don't know if i'm like nda so i'm not gonna say what it is but the day after tour i came back and had an audition this year which she didn't get but like i had to cry in it and i was just like i was so fuzzled from tour i was like no i just didn't cry and like the whole script was like now you're crying i was like i literally said to them i was like you're not gonna get to his i would say but that's like the worst that's every actor's worst nightmare is when the script says no she sobs yeah so i'm like doing this with my face but the amount of auditions i've had to do where it's just like she's sobbing the entire time and i'm like oh is this fierce to see also i feel like everyone because no that's what I mean it's like people don't want to cry and I think you're on the money it's like trying to hold in tears is actually maybe the more powerful thing yeah that actually can work as well sometimes because then your body's like trying to get through with something right I don't know yeah there's definitely like you can also stare at a light you can just stare at a light of ages and your eyes will start to stream yeah like dry them out kind of thing there's lots of techniques you learn yeah so you did your gap year in New Zealand no I did high school in New Zealand um actually tell us a bit about that say my dad um my dad got a job out there after the 2008 financial crash i think we moved in 2008 i don't really know why he was offered a job out there i just turned 15 we moved two days after my 15th birthday and i just got my braces off i oh wow so you're ready to fuck i was i literally said to one of my friends before i left i went do you think i'm gonna get a boyfriend when i go to new zealand because i was like pining for a boyfriend because i'd had my 12 year old boyfriend at primary school and that was that i was the smallest girl in the school and he was the smallest boy so that's what we're putting together shout out matthew coyle yeah yeah um hey matthew um he went became a boxer for a while don't know where he is sexy he got tall i think he got tall um but then yeah i did have a cup in fact no actually i didn't really have that many boyfriends and then i went to new ceilin got a boyfriend thank you coolest boy in school he was like a mini justin bieber and everyone was like i got him i got him for like six months and then he dumped me did he do the he did the whole hair oh yeah he's sitting at the bottom of the stairs at school playing his guitar oh that's paddy leishman he's actually one of my best friends now he lives in london yeah wow i hated him for a bit yeah he hated me for a bit um actually one of the worst things he ever said and you'll hate that i'm saying this but um there was after we'd broken up i made this life hell by being really i was like i hated him for doing that to me and then one time in math class i'd learned what makeup was and i'd learned what bronzer was and so i was wearing quite a bit of bronzer at age 16 as i should the hula and in my math class my teacher was like lauren have you been on holiday and i went um no yeah it's no it's a yeah and paddy turned around to the whole class and went it's called makeup and i was like and shamed me for having far too much bronzer on um he's gonna hate this but um we're friends now and it's all fine and he was denied that that ever happened under the bridge yeah and then i got another boyfriend who was kind of like dj'd for a bit oh wow so you've had really every kind of major stereotype he was a year above me at school wow yeah yeah that was an addict oh no i can't remember jake did drugs he was like they've had an irish theme so he was a dj when you were at high school yeah he just would like sometimes dj he was way ahead of the curve he was into music yeah and and american football wow and like snapbacks everyone in new zealand was into a snapback right hat do you know what i mean yeah oh i'm just gonna ignore that yeah don't need that bill

29:09um okay so yeah i went to high school there learned how to paint at in new zealand learned that maybe I'd like to be an actor right being outside New Zealand's great New Zealand's a bit like Scotland but warmer everyone's way more chill no more shoes no more shoes that would really bother me deeply it doesn't really you'd like it dogs out dogs out in the supermarkets the whole thing nah nah nah nah nah nah it doesn't no actually honestly like week we arrived we were looking for a school for me and we were like going we were like visiting schools to decide where I was going to go and one of them they were doing cross-country running in bare feet and I was like what is this place okay what is this place and I literally lord of the rings type yeah well when I got asked if I wanted to move I was like no is like in Australia like where is it and is it what is and they gave me a VHS video that basically just had sheep in fields because there's 11 sheep per person in New Zealand I don't know if that's the current stat but that is it and lots of people maori people doing hackers sick and i was like why is this place like i've never scotland's super white so it's like you know i hadn't had that much uh exposure to the rest of the world and um got there and it's not like that at all my dad just kept being like it's a very cosmopolitan place um i love that it's a very cosmopolitan place and actually is and like super multicultural place all my friends from different parts of the world like all different so good so good so good new markdowns up to 70 off are at nordstrom rack stores now stock up and stay big on shoes tops dresses accessories and more must-haves for summer join the nordy club to unlock exclusive discounts shop new arrivals first and more plus buy online and pick up at your favorite rack store for free great brands great prices that's why you rack Study and play.

we stayed for about five because it was so good so yeah have you brought back any kind of kiwi bits of culture with you well they didn't think i was speaking english when i first got there so my accent's like not strong and they i remember my first week of school and a girl took me aside was like you need to slow down and Nancy out now and they're just speaking English and I was like English and I was like right and then they started a rumour that I was from Chicago and had four kids one of the girls and I was like 15 and those same people they all just they would all be like shot bro and I'd be like why are they all shooting each other shot bro and it's just like cool it's like another version of like yeah cool shot bro like an agreement like shot I mean bro different word to shot but and Suarez and Suarez it is sweet ass right okay and i don't know all that sort of stuff i picked all that up but my accent didn't go i i did have to get soft my accent got a lot softer right because of it um which probably benefited you long term in your career look it really allowed me to enter a lot of different spaces and and sort of assimilate with the rest of the world and it's all about assimilating yeah yeah i love to code switch and you've kind of you dated a justin bieber guy a DJ guy they've all been like a bit Irish and a bit music a bit Irish and a bit music yeah they've all had a music influence and then they've all had some sort of Irish take even the guys in New Zealand yeah yeah Paddy was one of them of course Jake O'Driscoll was the other one Matthew Coyle was a Celtic fan that was my my small 12 year old boyfriend who was after that how would oh yeah and then the one after that he actually was not he just kind of looked like he could be from Ireland okay and then the other one Irish musician thread carried into your adult life or was that kind of i think it's probably still a bit of a type but i think i now see those kind of i'm like like bums like like nothing but trouble yeah music people are yeah not music people not irish people i do fancy them i'm not gonna lie i find it cool i want to be in the music industry but i also don't then when you do it it's how yeah i feel like the older i get the more i'm like so we're like dating again i've just like having come out of a long-term relation i'm like dating again i'm like wow i have so much less patience for yeah for like idiots i think it does hit that point and i also think it hits that thing of it's like once you date one like whack musician you can't ever do it again i think it really does even when musicians are successful they can still be dickheads yeah and that's the thing that like blows my mind or like immature success in music doesn't necessarily make you an adult i think it doesn't work that way and like having worked with loads of like very successful people now being like you don't have to be a dickhead and also you should like you should be good like i think i'm quite good at what i do you are very good at what you do and i'm hell yeah like back yourself yo never said yo in my life actually i have started saying yo a little bit yo no what if i said brother hey brother yeah whoa nah bro no um no brother hey brother okay i've seen brother a lot i don't know why i don't know if that's okay um but i do think i'm like you can't be a dickhead and be rubbish like yeah at least be good at what you're doing and a lot of people aren't that good or different I'm like shut up do you know what I mean yeah so what do you think Lauren's like next partner should be like partner okay I thought you meant like next role I was like send her to America send her to America send her to Hollywood do we love the term partner do we not love the term partner because then you're working out if someone's gay yeah gay married doesn't want to be married like can we get partner out in 2016 yeah yeah yeah what we're saying instead like what would you rather my fuck friend my life partner is crazy my lover my life partner is crazy my life sounds fucking corporate yeah yeah what would you call bill what he's my boyfriend yeah true no i say my partner sometimes to confuse people um just to keep some people on it keep like a conservative person on it am i a lesbian am i um what would i like your uh next partner to be rich we were we're actually speaking about this where it's kind of like i think that is a real you're a successful woman and i think too what else yeah and you're laying and you've got a beautiful smile but like you're a successful diva and like it's i do think it's hard once gaining success especially in like east london for example there's a whole range of like people just starting out to people like completely where they're at and i think it is difficult gaining kind of like success in your field like you've been in big shows you are in multiple big shows I think it must be difficult we've had conversations about how it must be quite difficult kind of like dating whilst people may know who you are kind of thing yeah and I think that is difficult especially within East London with like clout chases etc etc it's funny because like I like never I've never been in a position where I'd be dating and some of my know who I was and like I'm not fucking famous in the way that like i'm not suggesting in any way that i'm like really i'm not i'm really not i do not get stopped around he's not whatsoever um but there is something about people once they know what you do and like you've got instagram followers and all that sort of thing that suddenly you become more interesting for that yeah and that you're not just you and it's like doesn't like what you what you do is what makes you so interesting and it really bothers me that i'd be like can i not just can that not what if that i wasn't doing that anymore would you they'll be interested and some people that are just clout chasers where it's like they might not know your shows or whatever but they want to be associated with you to help themselves so that's annoying but i just want you to be with someone who's just like so kind and loving and giving and yeah and i can bring to the table what you also bring to the table because you do bring a lot to the table yeah yeah and like i'm so grateful for all i can't no actually i'm sorry I was about to say I am so grateful for all the love I've had no that's nice but I am that's something that I've definitely said multiple times yeah like I am so grateful like I don't regret any of my relationships but the yeah it is weird now being in a different I've never dated like I've been in a relationship for quite a long time so I've never dated having all these shows come out like my previous relationship kind of started when before my like Karen season one came out yeah so now life actually has like in the least one can be possible life has actually changed quite a lot you're in the premier league now yeah but like kind of kind of haven't as well like not totally like there's so much further ahead as well so you're like where am i have you seen the itv thing no like the itv you actually sent me no no imagine itv did a dating app if everyone's been on any itv show can date on that app but it's like yo i would do it yo yo brother i would do it hey brother i would all of the Love Island cast I have to have access to all of the Love Island cast I'd say that I thought it'd be fun for a bit but I think it's Ian Sterling and Laura Whitmore opening up their marriage yeah love Ian Sterling Lauren Lyle and Ian Sterling but it's like your face is everywhere like Cara Perry like that poster the ITV thing it's on billboards and shit do you know what I mean yeah for a bit and then it all goes away and you're like Olivia Cooke on to the next thing do you know what I mean Olivia Cooke talks about this who's the lead in House of Dragon and she's like she still lives because she's dead normal and she lives a really normal life and she's like for a moment you have this like when you do a round of press like your face is all over the place and then it goes away and you're kind of like yeah she's normal again um yeah but it's funny it is funny i kind of at the moment i'm like having a lot of fun and i'm like let's just enjoy that for a bit yeah i haven't done that in a while so that's nice um okay great I'm gonna write that down well how are you gonna have fun once most favoured is wrapped up like what's next for you I don't know what I'm doing next yeah what's the dream also for this year any goals what's the team the goals are what's your biggest weakness what do you think you bring to this role my biggest weakness is being so sensitive my sensitivity is my biggest weakness my ability to laugh is my biggest weakness to let people in to trust to trust me too my friends and trusting people it's so you know you get it you understand i sound like cola scola have you seen cola scola yeah yeah um uncle gino's uncle gino's yeah on amy polo's good time um no what my 2026 is i don't know what i'm doing next i've got my podcast it's gonna come out yeah she's a wreck i've got my podcast which i haven't done in a few years but someone cool said they wanted to produce it so i was like okay let's go so we are doing that and that'll all come out um i have directed something that will end up out at some point um i don't know i'm quite i'm quite happy to be a wee bit picky and like consider what i want to do next go on holiday maybe yeah yeah what are you thinking i don't know where we go in vietnam yeah we were saying that yesterday to adam yeah i think we really want to go Vietnam or like maybe this year I really want to go to Japan yeah alright let's do it apparently Japan's like going into the future oh have you done it?

40:55no but I'd like to do it me and Bill we'll need to talk about this yesterday with Adam yeah 2026 I'd like to like not give a fuck do you know what I mean? big thing to say I mean big thing but how do we do that? so hard for anyone to do so hard for an actor to do it as well when so much of your worth is placed in other people other people yeah but you could argue that you've just already made it now so like no you haven't you can't you can't next mountain man but that is a thing no actually that is a thing though not doing it that like trying to not just be like what's next what's next what's like trying to enjoy your life where you are at the moment um and sort of like i'd like to get to a place where i'm really happy without having to like chase the next thing and just be where i am i think i'm kind of getting there actually i think i'm doing quite a good job of that at the moment um any tips could use them i mean it's always worked out so i'm like yeah it's like and like for a lot of people i think everyone like we literally said when we started to become friends both of us were like when winter hit so depressed and so like hates our lives yeah even though like good stuff was happening to us yeah and then as the months have sort of progressed into the winter it's all worked out and being actually like quite good yeah it's been okay it's been more than okay and you're like it's it will it will be all right i don't want to spend my life like worrying about the next thing and waiting yeah yeah i think you can get stuck in that as well how do you how do you try to not give a fuck see i mean it's always good when you do get work like yeah like not saying like you can't wait for the next thing but when you've got a regular stream of things i just try and remember like remind myself that um i'm hot yeah i'm fucking lit honestly taking my clothes off in the summer did help yeah but yeah but i think it is that thing you need to remind yourself that there was one point i mean we've spoken about it and like you know you don't come from like acting beginnings like no you've gone and chased it and got it i think that does hit a point where it's kind of like you have to remind yourself that like there was a time where like you didn't have any way in and now you're like in conversations about the next you've done it yeah we've done it like so you need to just like remind yourself that that's something that you've like hustled it a little bit yeah like there's still places to go of course and like much i'd love to go much further with everything but honestly in the conversation which is completely different from where i was a couple years ago yeah and you're also like people are chasing you as well yeah so it's like do we have like marty supreme energy i do yeah like i actually do yeah i want to be considered among the greats yeah yeah honestly wake up but that's why i'm around but actually when i'm like i think i'm good at what i do i'm like yeah what the fuck why should we not say that you're really like you're really good at what you do i don't really know what you do

43:36but you seem great at this you seem great at this bit and that's the bit i'm aware of okay i need some marty supreme energy after marty supreme i walked out being like fuck yeah be delusional yeah i'll listen to the soundtrack yeah like even the way timothy chalamet has got kylie jenner i think is like shit hot i think it's great i love it but i'm like why not get And then when he did the What's the rapper That everyone thought he was Bestie Bestie Yeah And he went And the lyrics and that Are like talking about The girl that he got Like look at the Upper echelon girl That I got And his dick being young And restless Yeah Do we like Timmy?

44:13Yeah we love I love Timmy I love Timmy I think everyone does I honestly don't I've not met one person That's like I hate him He's straight man of the year We should have given it to him Yeah we should have given it to him I think he's my tafer probably In some ways as well What is it about him? Is it the Is it the aesthetics? Is it the success? It's the confidence. It's the confidence. It's the res. It's the res. And if you can make, you can laugh me into bed. Yeah. Sounds quietly because my mum's listening. Do you want me to listen to this? Probably not. I hope not. But my mum and dad are actually in London at the moment.

44:43I've ran away from them to come do this. So they're in the back of my mind. Any fun plans while your parents are in London? Yesterday, actually, big recommendation. We went to the East London V &A East London storehouse. Have you been? Oh, no. But apparently it's amazing. It's amazing. They have a whole day of Bowie. Bowie or Bowie? What do we say? Bowie. I say Bowie. Is that wrong? No, no, no. I say Bowie. I say Bowie. But everyone says it their own way. See, Bowie, I think it sounds wanky. Like Bowie. Yeah, but I am a wanker. Yeah, okay. That's what I do. I'm a wanker. Okay, cool. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

45:17But they've got some of his archive there. And it's quite a small section, but the actual building is ridiculous. Huge, right? Huge. And it's just full of artifacts of cool, interesting things. and look i don't know if they've been stolen by victoria and albert i don't know i'm sure some of them probably have been or they've been bought yeah i don't look i don't know but it's an interesting thing and we went there yesterday and i they actually picked it mom and dad picked it and i was like um this is going to be very mom and dad and i got there and it was brilliant and my dad just kept walking around going see you learn culture me and culture as i walked around my buckfast beanie i have a beanie that's that's a bit of you that's a bit of you i was the only one that brought like any hard actually i don't know if you could call buckfast hard hard liquor no well but everyone's whose birthday is drinking white claws and buzz balls yeah it'll get you drunk and then i'm there with a bottle of buckfast you just made by monks yeah in benedictine or something yeah is it not no no it is yeah but fast makes you what everyone used do you know about that hello bug fast made you fuck first oh we should do that sd kid what could mine be lll cool j um did you say you needed to leave at 11 we can go we can is it 11 no no if you want to keep going for a bit because we don't start well we could do a agony on yeah we could do an agony on and i have one stupid quick fire thing yeah do the quick fire now okay Do it now.

46:47Do it quick. Yeah. Okay. So Lauren Lyle. Right. Tube or bus? Bus. Chapel or Charlie? Charlie. Piss or shit? Shit. Democracy or dictatorship? Democracy. Military coup or non-violent civilian resistance? Military coup, baby. Mum or dad? Oh. Mad. Love or money? money no love both oh difficult that's where my brain's at right now can love get you money or can money get you love Dua Lipa I would say I would say Dua Lipa's money has got her love does Dua Lipa someone said it does Dua Lipa ever have a bad day oh yeah absolutely do you think it doesn't look like it some people have had to unfollow her for their mental health because she's having such a good time all the time she's having a good time see when she is I'm not gonna a lie see when a friend you can check i still follow her i still follow her um but her and calum turner when that video came out of them under the eiffel tower did you see that video no for god's sake also they were under the eiffel tower yeah like it was like something out of a rom-com the canoodling kissing dancing together and paparazzi in inverted commas had caught it i i'm fairly convinced paparazzi did catch it and it wasn't someone filming them but they looked that like they were living the love of anyone's life that anyone's ever lived like nothing's better than what they've experienced i mean the thing is with doers is like she can just do a world tour and just stop for a bit which i really enjoy that she does it's like when she looks like she's not doing anything she really does how's she got the time to do everything she's doing actually how's charlie even the holidaying how's she holidaying how's she doing her podcast how's she reading as much as she's reading i will say i will say though i don't know how charlie how's charlie watching that many films how yeah how is charlie in that many films when the fuck Did you film all those Went to Charlie do her tour Remain with George Keep that functioning I know And also watch Plan two weddings Plan two weddings Do all the text watch she's doing And also watch the amount of film she's watching I'm actually a bit too lazy And write a sub stack Yeah Because I feel like I feel like I have to like Do a job Then find the boyfriend Yeah yeah yeah And it's like One thing at a time Do you know what I mean Let's focus Yeah But then filming is different from music Because music In a session You can just be on your phone While someone's mixing Can you Whereas it's like When you're on set You're on set 14 hours straight Yeah can't you have no control Whereas it's like with music, you can technically, like when I'm in a session, once I've written the song and they're just like mixing it, I can just sit there on my phone.

49:17Oh, can you? Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's a lot of being on your phone. Wait, do you, in a session, do you sit on the couch and like have, I've never been invited, but do you have people like come in to like sit and hang with you? How it goes is, yeah, well, if you want to, yeah. Yeah, obviously I want to do that. Like I find sessions really boring. You know I'm going to sit there and be like, Hannah, she'll need it. Be all right. And like loving it with you. but it's fun but like we just go in i usually go in my friend's arm we go and we bitch for like two hours like everyone and their mom off then we start doing music then i just then i just start drinking water then i'm just like running to and from the toilet because i have a really shit bladder and i'm just texting all day that's who gets her part of the job done in about like five five minutes and then and then like i just sit there all day i want to be music i want to be music yeah i do it ep coming soon yeah should we start what you do do you always do that do you do that as well could you make me a music very soon yeah of course so okay i can make you a star yeah it's happening okay okay let's go um right are we ready what have we got oh my god i said i love this shit um 23 year old bi guy never dated never fucked anyone but starting this year what's your advice okay you have to be delusionally confident and pretend that you have fucked before yeah just pretend that you've done it all before yeah like like be an actor delusionally walk in there being like i'm the hottest thing anyone's ever seen what could go wrong they because they don't know the other people don't know what's happening in your brain yeah they don't know that you're scared so you don't need to show them you're scared go in and and say to someone so when are you gonna fuck have i done that yes well i think also i do think there is all be the opposite and be like brutally honest and make a self-deprecating joke about it but you're totally chilled about it.

51:01I haven't fucked anyone. I never dated. I think this is funny. And then the other person, if they're a good person, I'm about to look. If I went on a date with someone and they were like, I've never fucked up before, I'd be like, well, I'll gladly take your virginity. That's hilarious. That's hilarious. And just keep doing that until you find the person that'll take it. Yeah. And also don't be embarrassed by that. That's fine. Yeah. I honestly wish I waited. I took my virginity too early. Not my own, obviously. And just like, if you're bi, go both ways. Just enjoy. Enjoy. It'll hurt so low key.

51:28find someone who will literally and figuratively thumb it in yeah fingers too i usually do two before i then put a dick in guys and also like go on would you say go on the app thank you would you say go on an app i think on an app i think on an app honestly just go experience honestly and also do it all i think gay bar yeah yeah it's dalston superstore yeah i know them yeah

51:52i have a queer friend i've experimented this is um you're really getting to i'm jealous of you you're getting to experience everything for the first time and sex is really fun also just don't think too much about it just do it yeah i actually think that's i think that's really good to best don't deep it too hard yeah if you can i as someone that's sensitive and does deep a lot just don't it's okay you can leave ride it as well and also quite literally and then i think also I do think there does hit that point where it's like you might actually just end up catching feelings for the first person like and just ride that as well like yeah go whichever way you go yeah but don't deep I think people who deep like virginity and stuff like that it doesn't really exist we've got to understand that this is like my virginity I had to Calvin Harris was playing and then I text my friends afterwards being like guess who's no longer a virgin I yeah that's fierce I rimmed somebody to uh Frozen 1 do you know when the eyes pick how old are you like 14 it was so bad how old are you it was bad it was peak That's nuts.

52:46Frozen fucking one came out yesterday. Came out the show and I was just rimming down. Sorry. Rewind. Why Frozen? Because we just put it on because it was like the only film he had in his room. And I just like, I was just like. How old is he? We were both 14. Oh my God. Yeah. Wow. We were both 14 and I was like. Yeah, ring that in Lou. Ring that in. And then I was rimming this guy at his house and yeah, Frozen one, like, do you know, it's like, it opens up and it's like, well not. No, but like Frozen and opens up and there's like the guy's like shoveling the ice or whatever and he's like yo yo yo you were doing it in time weren't you yeah yo an urge to get a carrot and just poke it up yeah no I did anal with that guy and I fainted how dare you ask such a question yeah a personal question to ask that's so funny it's bad it is bad okay another one I like this another one how do I deal with my mate being jealous a lot she's not happy for me when good stuff happens oh sack her off yeah she's not a mate mate just people do you know what i've actually had this uh quite a lot the last couple like couple years especially the last year and it comes out in really sinister ways where you see people try and make you feel small or they'll make a comment yeah or they'll put things on their close friends and you'll they'll think you won't see it whoa yeah and so then you saw that um and you just have to quietly rise no i can't say um you can quietly rise above those people and go and just do really fucking well and go bye bye yeah that's all you can do you don't get access to me it's like i think the best thing in that is not even explaining just like literally you don't even have to block them just ignore them just never reply ever again yeah jealousy's wild i'd like i think every time that i feel jealous i'm like i know that this is because i feel insecure that's it that's the base note of it you can't rock it yeah yeah oh god can i have it can i see what yeah yeah i want to say it's like a squirrel thing never had a friend who's jealous of me does that mean i have nothing to be okay okay okay wait oh i've got one there i asked you i need to make a million pounds how i'm still figuring it out um okay um this one she said um this isn't a fun one but how to stop basing your self-worth of male validation um done yeah it's nice like great we'll all just do that i think you've been i think as women and gay people you have been conditioned to do that so it's going to take a while to like recondition your brain yes it's basically be like you have to break it all down yeah you have that's when it's helpful to be like they're idiots yeah most of the time they're idiots and they're so insecure yeah and also it will always haunt your hallways i think it still haunts mine i think there are days where like i'll feel insecure because of something that someone says or i don't know male validation runs the world basically and you just need to really turn back from it and kind of accept that it's going to be part of how you feel but um they're they're idiots yeah they are idiots and that you're hot probably a lot hotter than them and that's yeah stressing them out we need some we need some validation from powerful female figures in our lives maybe michelle obama like yeah yeah who else yeah michelle obama that's it that's it affirmations of michelle obama yeah yeah i think yeah that's brilliant yeah i also like this one when did the gay thoughts start and when did you first feel liberated by them you're pretty gay can be sometimes yeah um i think where people when people would be like that's fine to think like that i'd be like oh okay maybe i'll just like lean into it a bit more sometimes yeah yeah high school with paddy or was never no it wasn't until probably my 20s no no it was like heavy boys boys boys boys boys boys and then i started probably when i moved to land i was like oh why do i like fancy that girl though yeah what's that about and then i'd ignore it and then people would be like yeah that's fine and i'd be like oh okay okay i think that's all it is i remember i never really felt like i had any thoughts until it started happening and i was like okay do you know what i mean then a boy started talking to me and i was like oh this is what it is yeah do you know butterflies yeah and like finding someone hot and it being like why do i find them hot yeah like i'm attracted it's attractive yeah i'm scared of you often it's for me it's i'm scared of you right okay yeah scary hot girls i'm like curiosity yeah fear um there's i cracked a 47 year old bear trade and stopped being attracted to benson boone how do i rekindle it god i don't even know what that means i thought i fucked 47 year old gay bear got you um and then i've stopped being attracted to benson boone that singer oh yeah i know who that is um how do you rekindle your love with benson boone don't move on yeah get over yourself move on you you leveled up if anything like you you went 47 yeah yeah you started with vanilla and you got to pistachio and now you want to go back to vanilla sister wake that up and finally is dry jam worth it considering it this year honestly from a serious point of view yeah it probably is like i desperately desperately need to do it and are you doing it no because i'm at the solo theatre and it's the most impossible bar to leave it's so fun to have a drink after and also you do a show and you get you're high afterwards and everyone's excited and i haven't been living my 90s like carrie bradshaw dream of like running about so doing it but when i don't drink i do feel better i do and every time i wake up hungover i hate myself i'm like what are you doing with your life and then it's fine by like a couple of hours later but yeah low-key would say it's actually worth it yeah for sure it is worth it but it is it's worth it to like learn maybe what you're when you can have a break and like what your limits might be yeah but also don't hold yourself to it if like yeah because it's also winter i think if you just promise yourself that maybe in april you'll do a dry yeah and it's fine i did the edinburgh fringe completely sober ones i feel like that's something that's like impossible yeah um i was doing a summer i don't know what i was doing but i was i'm just gonna not drink for a month and then i carried it on because i was enjoying it and i went to the fringe and it was it was quite i still really enjoyed it like i had a great time and i'd be out to like four or five in the morning and it just get weird and you'd be like this is weird yeah but i did start drinking again but that's true yeah i think that's why i'm so excited yeah diary of a ceo a ceo hello but i like i think with sobite perhaps maybe if you're going to a party sober go out of dinner first whilst the party started and go a tiny bit later when everyone's already drunk and you can kind of like go along with it i think the most awkward bit when you're sober is going to places sober and waiting for everyone else to go drunk it's like when you're in the smoking area and you're not smoking and you stand there like a melon fucking cold whilst everyone else smokes and it's like oh yeah i'm sexy and cool and you're like i'm happy here to have a conversation yeah and i want to be a laugh yeah and if you're gonna do dry jan afford yourself some other advice uh like maybe smoking or dog pornography or, you know, whatever floats your boat.

1:00:22Or fighting in the smoking area. Oh, yeah. That's nice. But also, the only thing about dry jam, it's mostly cool to prove to yourself that you can go without drink. But also, if you just want to moderate. Yeah, that's okay too. Let's moderate because, you know, you can fall into a kind of a binge thing. February 1st comes. You go crazy. You go mental.
