In short

MUNA discuss their new album Dancing on the Wall, the writing process behind it, and how pop music can express “shadow” emotions like limerence, unrequited desire, and political frustration. They also riff on queer identity, astrology, touring/performing challenges, and modern culture’s anxiety (including “World War 3” talk), plus a fun word-association segment.

Guests/backgrounds

MUNA are a queer pop band (Katie Gavin, Naomi McPherson, and Josette Maskin). They’ve been out since 2013/2014 and write collaboratively, with Katie described as a prolific songwriter.

Key claims

“Dancing on the Wall” uses metaphors of shadows/unreal people to capture limerence and emotional distance. “So What” is framed as a song about needing external validation and the self-protective distance of fixating on unavailable people. “Big Stick” is a political song connecting consumerism/social media addiction to colonialism/genocide and hard power, aiming to be validating rather than preachy.

Notable examples

“So What,” “Big Stick,” “It Gets So Hot,” “Mary Jane,” “Plan B,” and “Back Straight.” They mention writing “fake songs” before the “real” one and finishing the album in October, with two years of studio time.

0:56is she referencing like the tongue that she entered the stage on no but i remember talking about how she lost money on that tour because well the production guess what the tongue you know it's really funny to be like so near you know what's really funny um well to lose money on a tour because you're so devoted to having just giant props yeah i mean could easily be me could easily no but i'm saying like she's like i have to come out on the top yeah yeah i have to do it yeah what if you had to have a prop what prop would you have um recliner no we have we we have a like a mini like inflatable horse that is involved she's so last cycle though she is but i don't know but this is i think our fans would be really disappointed if she didn't come back she'll come we'll paint her red yeah do like a beyonce and like whoa should we do it i'm like we could enter on like like a red bull i'm the kind of i'm the one that would come up with prop ideas that would send us out of business yeah i'm like we should we should get a giant red yeah trojan horse you know that we enter the stage on yeah yeah yeah we might have some red stuff tbd we'll do some stage design but nothing that will bankrupt us yeah we're so podcast ready you know oh yeah ready for it yeah oh yeah oh sorry are you gonna have your laptop on i do have my laptop on my lap because i've got notes and everything oh my god i mean i think i should be like prepared for this yeah we had people on our pod no whatever you want whatever makes you feel more comfortable we had people on our pod that were like coming on because they were supposed to be like promoing something we were like we don't know about that anyway what do you think about this yeah yeah just chatting shit yeah honestly yeah yeah we were bad interviewers i mean it's more about we're pretty bad i mean when we explain to people like what our podcast is because like we're both musicians we're just like it is just brainwrap like there's no other way to explain it i can't be fucked i mean it has to be because this your music is where you're putting like your art yeah you know like your life force is going into that and then the podcast is what's left over this is like an exorcism it's like you have to it's like a sponge like you have to squeeze out the sponge into the podcast so that you can make your art i think also as well it is that thing i feel like no one wants organized fun and i feel like a podcast can be very organized fun yeah totally um i don't want that no no no one wants that i mean this is the first time i've ever made the notes usually i leave it to the straight yeah he's not here because he's in mexico right wow yeah it must be nice um no he's just about he's like hoeing about pretty straight oh he's he's slagging around you're slagging around exactly so he's doing that so he's away so it's just a diva's here today wow hey you know it's okay you're like viva mexico but you know yeah it's okay you're it's fun to be here you know straight in a trans way no okay gay in a regular way.

4:02Yeah, I get that. I'm gay in a trans way. Do you see what I'm pointing to? Well, I like women. We can go there if you want. We're hosting now. You're actually the right place for it, to be honest. This is like constant. This is like constant that goes through my brain. Because when I transitioned, I was like, so I'm not gay anymore. And I also go out with a gay. So it's like, we're all just really gay. Did you ever have a lesbian moment at all? So I actually did. I really tried because I was like I do categorically despise men like it's like something yeah it would be great if I could avoid and then we went on like three dates it was lovely it was a friend of a friend and then they said they didn't want to be with me and I was like right fuck me I can't win anywhere so I'm just like fuck it and then I met my partner and then it was fine yeah that's sweet but he's like he's really gay to the point where he also hates men so it's quite fierce okay cool that's a cool link yeah it's quite good that's cute but you've got a new album coming out we do yeah dancing on the wall you already know yes dancing on the wall yeah i like that it's called that though boom it is well it's it's it's named after a song on the album it is which we've normally how we do it is we like we'll take a lyric in a song and concept or an idea yeah save the world isn't lyric yeah neither is the yeah it's about but i liked this metaphor it's from everything oh yeah about you to me yeah i'm tired going to going back to moon at school to learn about our own band but dancing on the wall is the is the lead single on the album and the i liked this metaphor of like um you know i i was thinking about kind of like being at this this image of like being at like a high school dance and like being on the wall like waiting for just waiting for somebody um and this realization of like being in a relationship with with this person or lack thereof or lack thereof situationship yeah i honestly it's so insane it's so lesbian like how many songs are about people that i've never even dated is that even i don't think that's lesbian that's just gay that's just like i think i think it's just quite a game yeah it's very gay but i do think it's human maybe but i think that the lesbians maybe have like a hold on that market the long the limerence market yeah yeah yeah there's another word as well oh infatuation yeah it all works being down bad simping down bad it's been really crazy to see limerence get like like to see people's knowledge of that word go up yeah yeah i was one of the first girls on the you were on the wikipedia page saying what is going on here yeah yeah limerence degree i was 2012 i was 2012 limerence for sure yeah yeah yeah but yeah i liked that metaphor and it felt like you know it was cool for us to like kind of add to this canon of like um dancing with myself dancing on my own kind of like the you know just like the the queer pop canon of dancing but being sad yeah yeah also the idea right yeah yeah it felt kind of i don't know it feels just like a it feels like the title of an album i don't know it feels like the title of an album feels like the title you know but i i i also liked the idea i was thinking about the title of the song and i was like oh if it's like i'm dancing on the wall when i'm with you like you know when like you're at a party or something and then you look at the wall it's just like a bunch of shadows dancing on the wall and they're not like real people it's like oh you're one of those like you're like this you know amorphous like shadow that's dancing on the wall in this crowd but you're not like a real person to this person to the unrequited love or something yeah i wonder how you you feel about that too with music because i think like with pop music you it's so intriguing to be like playing in the world of like shadows like like the stuff that we try to like deny about our emotions yeah often like has space to express itself in pop songs so I think like yeah the the the world of shadows is like very evocative um and I think like we're definitely in that realm with this record and can I can I ask when you go into into when you went into making the record or writing in general do you know that that's what you want to convey or you felt as though that's what came out.

8:40Cause I always feel like I never really go in with, I know what I kind of want to say, but then after it you're like, oh my God, I was trying to say this kind of thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think that's completely how it is. I think for the most part in general, we go in with like a vibe, a mood or yeah, like a vibe, a mood, maybe something we'd like to write about. I think Katie is a very prolific writer, songwriter, and has a lot of songs and we call some of them fake songs. We've talked about this before, but the idea that like maybe you've been trying to write a song that speaks to some topic or uses some metaphor for like years and years.

9:21And you finally, the real song is like when you finally you've written all the fake songs that are about this thing and then you get to the real one at the end. So the process of the album for us is a lot of like writing and working on things and seeing if they feel right and then we kind of like collage together what feels like it it works for this mood that we're going for some things don't fit which is funny even if they're good yeah yeah yeah yeah some things go to the shop but then yeah save for the deluxe do you know what i mean yeah yeah throw a few at the end that'll be an interesting conversation yeah i've like i like literally just remembered a song because of what you said about the dancing at the high school oh yeah yeah i forgot about that song yeah deluxe throw on the deluxe yeah it's not a bad song can we talk about specific songs on there because i have heard the album is well i would love to i would love to expand on so what let's go right because i find it so interesting i honestly haven't heard that take before of almost like so what you don't love me because i have these other relationships with perhaps fans or like well yeah your fan base i took it as um and looking at parasocial relationships and how that manifests today with like tiktok and instagram and such yeah um yeah if you could expand on that i would absolutely love to know interesting that that's what you you got from it i think that's part of it i think yeah but it is interesting to me it's like a song i don't know i'll like i'll let katie talk about it okay but i mean i think we all know it so well at this point yeah yeah If you want to.

10:56I love that song. And to me, when I first heard the top line that Katie wrote, I was like, this is devastating. Like, it's about, to me, it feels like a song that is about when you've been working towards something that maybe requires or comes with a certain degree of external validation. um and it doesn't matter like it or you want it to have healed the part of you that wants this other person's love or something or maybe it would like help you get past it and it just doesn't like uh yeah I think our whole time like as a band honestly like um I've struggled with like these kind of opposing forces of like being a really ambitious person but also like having self-awareness around the fact that like my i'm sorry i'm having adhd moment where i'm like what are they talking about yeah um like being aware of the fact that i am like trying to fill some kind of This episode is brought to you by Google Chrome.

12:38that's the sound of zero sugar 200 milligrams of caffeine and the power to burn body fat storm energy for life storm energy blend helps boost metabolism which in combination with exercise and a healthy diet helps burn fat this product alone does not produce weight loss individual results may vary god-sized hole

12:58um and there's a god-sized hole for sure yeah well just like it like trying to feel like good enough because other people like if a certain amount of other people are listening to your music or if you're selling a certain amount of tickets or you're fine what are a amount of people want to fuck you can i say yeah this i can say i'm sure um yeah so and i think that like you know metaphorically it's like i mean well no literally the way that that has shown up in a decent portion of my life is like it's like i will pick people to kind of like fixate on who like aren't gonna give me the satisfaction yeah and there's like some like it's there's some kind of crazy like jujitsu there because then you if you pick those people then you don't actually have to like ever be vulnerable well yeah you don't have to face like the the devastation of like actually if you get the thing yeah 100 it still doesn't like solve the feeling yeah and there's something like if you've had a traumatic childhood there's something for example like some of us I'm sure I think there's something that feels safer about like keeping those people at a distance even if it feels like you're pursuing them there's a part of you subconsciously that is like that's attracted to that distance the inherent distance yeah that yeah it that is exists in the in in the relationship or lack thereof but yeah so what to me very very very sad song something like a rite of passage song where like you know most of my like favorite bands who have had an album cycle that was like their most successful like you'll usually hear them contending with like that success in whatever comes after and I like as a rule I don't really know like how I feel about that generally because there's obviously a bit of it that's like must be hard yeah yeah but it's like it is uh something that like we experience we experience kind of like a groundswell of support for our project and like success in a way that we hadn't experience before like when we put out our third album and so i think like that that that so what is speaking to that a little bit definitely it's the it's the like ultimate the lady doth protest too much song where you're like uh i'm not i won't even notice i don't care yeah you care so much yeah um yeah sorry did i interrupt no no no but do you feel like with the third album for example do you think that that was easier to do when facing like what we're talking about because you were independent so you almost had like bigger well you went on like rca anymore and like an indie um do you think it was easier to express those emotions perhaps or maybe i'm reaching i think like with the self-titled record we felt like we had so much on the line yeah we we really needed to be successful we were like

16:18like if we didn't like there was a month but we were gonna run out of money and so we're like oh yeah okay that was our running out of money album we've been there yeah and it felt yeah it felt like okay so here's what we're gonna do we're gonna write as many bangers and as many different kinds of genres as possible and just see what catches and hopefully the like eclectic nature of the album is like a statement about our skill as a band yeah and i think that we were when silk chiffon happened we were like phew okay i just don't know if on this record i feel like we have as much to prove as we this was felt like we needed to this feels like a record that we've made more for ourselves yeah i would say in terms of like wanting or something to artistically like reflect who we believe like luna is as a project yeah you know what i mean the last record was like luna is so encompassing like you can't even handle luna and this is like what is the distillation of luna yeah i think there's also something about it that's like it was it was for us but it was because we felt like like not necessarily in a self-indulgent way i think like I felt at least I won't speak for you guys but I'm I would imagine you would agree it feels like I still felt like we hadn't made the album that is the album that will define our careers and like every time you make a record you kind of shoot to do that like I'm like well we actually feel that what's the what's the body of work that like that you feel is like the best like record album like all together as a piece of music and I think because of where we are with our our our skills i feel the strongest potential for that to be the case with this album totally but we're so like who knows if we'd ever feel like satisfied that's true honestly but in a way that i think like is actually not a negative i think it's actually a positive because we like making music and we like trying our best you know i think now maybe at a different point it could have been seen as a negative because it's like actually kind of the so what thing or it's like feeling like when am i ever going to be seen as enough as a musician but it feels kind of different right now at least to me like i'm just like i want to keep making more that you just like doing it it's like it's more curiosity rather than like dissatisfaction yeah but we'll see do you feel like you've got the skills like more skills now to like you have an undeniable sound and that's always running through this but especially with this album i feel like it's so concise and specific it's so good yeah so do you feel like now you just feel as though perhaps you have the skills and the i guess like freedom it's not even kind of yeah i think honest i mean it's skills but it's also money like let's be like let's be honest like a lot of time it's time time which is money like realistically like we got to take two years two years to do this and we have as much help as like we want in terms of not I mean like it's not like as much help as we want we're getting more help than we've ever gotten in terms of making our creative vision come to to life like in a real way like we were able to like we've made this record in a studio which like we were working in basements and bedrooms before and like we have creative partners now who can take our little idea and actually like bring it to fruition um and so i don't actually remember what i was well i think but i do think that everybody has more skill yeah it is both but i'm just saying it's it's both things yeah i think like at the end of the last record at least from a production standpoint i kind of felt like there were we were a little rushed at the end of the last album and i don't necessarily think it reflects in the music in a way that anyone would pick up on but for me on a kind of like on a personal level i was like i think that i if we had if i really hope next time we have more time because i want time to be able to like tinker tinker and tweak and and make the record of you know a through have a there be a through line that makes it like pleasant as a listening experience and you just need time with the songs to make that happen and just literal time in the studio definitely and of course it always feels like a little bit of a rush towards the end and we finished the album in like october so a long time elapses between when it finishes and when it's going to come out but yeah i feel like their time is a huge thing and then yeah developed skills we i think we we all were pretty like i don't know this seems like this sounds harsh but i think we were like hard we were hard on ourselves yeah during this process in terms of like songs sounds parts like i think we were pretty meticulous about it whereas in the past it might have been like okay that'll do like that yeah yeah that's great and then yeah on wait i think maybe you could have a higher level of care than i think we've ever been able to for whatever reason i don't know why yeah yeah yeah yeah so nice can can we talk about one more song on the album that i picked up big stick hell yeah yes as far thank you and also so necessary thank you right now especially in the world that we're living in god um why did you feel as though like you need to try the song and also like you ties in your voices as like queer people as well like I feel like sometimes it does fall to us and I don't know if you feel any sort of like pressure to say something because I feel like sometimes with myself um when I write music I'm like should I be more specific and make it like obviously trans or like obviously queer and so I don't know whether you feel that or felt that I mean we've run the gamut with like with that in terms of like our queer identities and our music we were out as a band like starting in 2014 but most of our first album 13 yeah but most of our first album is like um in second person like you wouldn't necessarily be able to tell like who we were singing about um yeah we so we've we've run the gamut on but it's like also like we are who we are and people and i think we've always been clockable to the people that you know needed to clock they be seeing things sometimes you just have a gay face yeah i think there is a thing yeah that's true but in terms of like writing big stick like i think that we you know as a songwriter like i am writing about the things that i'm experiencing like in my life and it kind of felt like the the all of these ideas were like kind of like pressing on like the front of my head sometimes i just get the feeling of like i have to work this out in a song and and the structure of that song i don't know if people i don't know if the song will be out when this episode is out yeah um yeah we can talk about it yeah not sure but yeah but like basically like the structure of the song is like one that's kind of like drawing connections between like um manufacturing desire like on a micro level in within capitalism like via consumerism consumerism and like social media addiction and then it kind of like like goes out and out into like you know manufacturing consent for um like colonialism genocide and and and then at the the end stage of it is like not um like really throws consent by the wayside and like looks at the systems of like hard power that are in place in this day and age and i think for me it was almost more of like a we've been trying to write like a good political song yeah for the entire time we've existed as a band i think it can it's like a hard thing to do um yeah i just it's a hard thing to do without not being preachy and i think this is like a credit to the writing i think it's a really difficult thing to do and not sound like i know condescending or like we are not a part of this stuff as well like right totally i yeah it's it it's a it's a song that draws connections between things that you've noticed in your own life and your own experience of being a person alive in this time and i think something that literally everyone who has eyes and the internet can relate to um but it is this weird thing of like it's not solution based that's what it's it's not that's why i wonder if it's less preachy yeah because it's not it's like i mean i love some songs that are like it's more just like a funnel for the energy like it's nice when a song speaks to something that you know is like a real thing that exists like i i will i get off on like certain just rage against the machine songs that just are talking about the problem yeah and there's no solution but that's what thank you for writing this because it allows me to like get my energy out about this feeling yeah or like fuck the police like yeah you know like those stuff like that it's important to just write about the things we're experiencing and seeing in a way that is like validating to the listeners hopefully and yeah it's it's a song it's a it's a frustrating song but i'd be curious like what you think about like we have talked about how it's interesting to like live in this time where like it feels like so many of us like contending with all of the horrors of like modern day society it's like a part of all of our daily lives but it's not really present in our popular music like explicitly yeah um and like we you know there's a there's a bunch of ideas about why that might be and i think like even with like the like entire like brat era like i don't think that it necessarily would have existed in this way like had there not been so much that we are trying to like escape from 100 you know what i mean yeah i mean yeah our friend described it as being like all the music that was coming out that summer of 2024 prior to the second election of donald trump um was like the summer before the end of the world like yeah totally that the final like good feeling like but knowing that something is on the the horizon i think there is that i don't i'm sure wasn't the intention of the people who were making the music that was coming out at that time but i think there is an interesting retrospective like think piece there or something i mean yeah obviously it's not intentional on the on the part of the artist but yeah there's just so many reasons maybe maybe an undercurrent in the culture of feeling thing i mean people were comparing it to the time before world war ii do you know in like berlin yeah yeah where everyone was just like kiki and partying yeah yeah totally comparing bratz summer to that and i was like fuck me i can't go to world war three yeah i can't do it it's gonna happen but i can't fucking do it i know i'm really exhausted it's like yeah it's like world war three constantly in small ways every day now yeah okay jesus yeah yeah i'm like what will make me not get um chosen to go to war yeah i'm like all right i've been on eastern five years i'm like hopefully that'll be yeah we would maybe to like keep me not from holding a gun i know i'm really hopeful that i don't have this stuff yeah we don't have the cardiovascular energy no i can barely walk up a flight of stairs Tell me about it I forgot and dizzy And also I'm not going on On behalf of fucking America No Are you crazy I haven't Really thought about What the What the structure Of World War 3 Would be I just also think It actually In reality Like wouldn't Really involve Like it's kind of like It'll be like But you know like In America Like I mean I feel like we probably Will have to cut This out But in America Like the queers Like we are learning How to use guns Oh babe that's like feels is that happening here yeah there's lots of tick tocks going around now like babes you're gonna have to learn how to fight like the divas are getting together and like well we're doing like just for like self-defense yeah yeah yeah even like the queers i mean like that's why there's such a big push and like um i guess the queer community specifically but for people to start lifting weights like yeah the straight straight whites are not going to be strong like we should all be strong we're not going to be tiny anorexic yeah like we're going to fight you yeah we can't be heroine chic out here no no i think we can do something else in the war like yeah i don't want to fight why can't we yeah we can see i'll play the drums yeah yeah i mean probably we'll figure it out i do have a game for you if you're right this is even on from war yeah yeah sorry about that no no never apologize I definitely did it.

29:28But America's Next Top Model is obviously trending at the moon. Wait, I have not seen it though. I haven't seen it. I'm so scared. Because they have a show. No. It's like a Netflix show. There's a new documentary. Yeah, documentary. Have you watched it? No. Have you? I haven't, but I've just seen it on TikTok. So I've never watched it. So basically, I saw her thing about hot ice cream. Well, the hot ice cream. Were you following that? We could do a whole. It's like hot chocolate, isn't it? Everyone's like, it's just hot chocolate. She was insisting that it was not. She was doing it. she was really clear suit that it's not hot chocolate I cannot believe the hot ice cream was sending me for about three days anyway genius oh my god no but I was then inspired by Tyra and so I'm gonna do a word association have you seen her doing this with like Beyonce oh my god yeah so I've done no dividing words for Muna oh my god this is amazing okay so we've got tuna what's your favorite fish tuna Tuna.

30:25Honestly, I'm like, I'm going to get into this next year. It's going to be a tuna salad year for me. Okay. Fierce. Yeah. I mean, is it? It's like a ton of mayonnaise. I'm not really a fish man. What depends on which you put in. I'm not a fish man. No. No, but I love the way beautiful tuna look. Yes. When it's when they're massive as well. They're massive. Yeah. Oh, alive. Alive. Not a dead. Yeah. An alive. Alive moving one. Yeah. Yeah. Maybe. Well, maybe tuna. God damn it. So is tuna. It might be tuna. I'm not a huge like canned tuna, but I love, I'm a sushi person. Katie is so canned tuna. I'm canned tuna.

30:59Okay. Totally. Work. So Laguna, where's your favorite place to go on holiday? Laguna? Wait, you just keep saying these things. I love it. Oh, no, because it rhymes with Muna. Okay, I mean. So I'm just like doing really richy rhymes. I'm doing really bad word association because you say that and I think Laguna Beach is amazing. I don't want to blow this up, but I will. Olbosh in Mexico. It's amazing. h-o-l-b-o-x this is for the gays only um it rules it's unbelievable it's it's on the caribbean side it's a pretty it's a very like queer friendly island uh the vibes are iconic it's inexpensive cheap and cheerful all the people who are working at the hotel i stayed at were all like cute young gay guys it it was amazing but it's not a party scene it's totally relaxed island vibes Olboj I like how Naomi says no And everyone learned to speak Spanish It'll get you far When you live in LA One of my favorite parts about living in LA Is leaving LA Just for the weekend And I go to Ojai a lot You guys are in Ojai all the time It's kind of like Do you know what it is You live such different lives It's kind of like It is extremely white I have to say so that's um in the in the cons list but it's like it's like mystical desert like weird uh like but it's not like joshua tree it's not like burning man burning man it's not like burning man it's more it's more expensive it's more like farmer horse it's like if you like are a successful visual artist in los angeles you might like retire to yeah totally definitely you're not doing as much like acid and there are fabulous restaurants there it's true my girlfriend is obsessed with it you guys so i i get taken there yeah and i like going to florida i don't care yeah who cares i mean i loved i just came from uh going to japan i love kyoto yeah so nice or I love I love I really love Italy I love Rome I like it so nice I love a city that's like Kyoto and Rome are both like this where there's like it's a modern city surrounded by uh like historical sites so it's a mix of something like where I feel like it's culture it there's like a really rich culture that you can be immersed in and also I can still do some modern stuff I loved I went to Rome for the first time last year.

33:37I love Rome. Fucking loved it. It's so great. God. I want to go on vacation again. Babe, wake it up. I need to go. I want to go to Spain. This place is too cold. It's horrendous. Let's go to someplace tropical. I know. Can we do the podcast? It's all there. It's fine. And then we've got Luna. What are your star signs? And if so, do you believe in them? Wait, go through the whole chart. What are yours? Yeah, what are yours? I'm Sagittarius, Capricorn, and Scorpio. Oh, fun. Capricorn, Capricorn Moon? we're rising the one which is the one that you act like that's rising that's right that's capricorn and a scorpio moon wow interesting cool that makes sense that's a fun little we're we're cap sun love both caps yeah and then joe is a pisces yes yes yeah so you fit it in yeah yes yeah yeah we work yeah we work the scorpio and the capricorn and in your mix will match with our with our vibes do you guys feel like you believe like do you take astrology seriously yes and no yes and no but it is kind of true like the people i get along with the most are the people i'm usually the most compatible with which are who like which i i get i get we have one earth and water earth and water and then sometimes like certain kinds of air but like earth and water where it's like i mean kelly's all water i'm all earth and water and like i get along with people who i feel like have the same kind of emotional uh relationship to the world you know kelly is joe's fiance yeah yeah oh fierce yeah fierce indeed i like uh not crazy i think generally i don't know if it's such a gay word no it's not i think it's cute yeah it's lovely i can't say i would say i would almost rather just be fiance for if you if you're non-binary like myself instead of like married well what the fuck it's gonna what my spouse this is my spouse ever when years i really i really gotta start saying my portrayal is really disgusting yeah there's a few i'm like can um yeah luckily i hate what does kate call you um yeah but she sometimes calls me her boyfriend yeah iconic i i think partner should just be a queer word i know this is i don't like if you're straight i'm sorry i don't like partner for that reason yeah i like that everyone's trying to like it's like partners more respectful than girlfriend you know but y 'all have everything yeah exactly give it back it was a way for people to signal to each other that they're gay yeah so give us they literally can't take their freaking hands off of it i know our culture is so attractive that i know and it really is though everyone's trying to get it um we've also got Auto-tuner.

36:24Because I was on a night of rides. Oh, nice. Yeah, see what I did there. What's your hardest song to perform? Oh, man. I mean, well. For me, one that got away is the hardest. But it's because the polyrhythms are hard for me to play. Yeah, Naomi's in a little station with like... Piano. It's hard for me. But I think the hardest song for me to perform on the next album will be It Gets So Hot. I just don't know it's going to be the hardest. If you're actually going to try to play the polyrhythms. I have to. What do you think? That's going to be crazy. Mary Jane is going to be hard Which one hurts your hands That we play now I can't remember Plan B is a backup birth control option That's there for you when things don't go according to plan It specifically works After unprotected sex And before pregnancy occurs By temporarily delaying ovulation Plan B is available nationwide At all major retailers And through delivery apps like DoorDash No ID, prescription, or age requirement It's the number one OBGYN recommended brand of emergency contraception and it won't impact your future fertility.

38:01Uh oh I feel like there's one that you're like I don't want to fucking do this anymore. It's usually just like when you're cold. Oh you don't want to play everything anymore because of the headbanging. Oh because of the headbanging. I guess physically certain songs require too much of me. Well Big Stick's gonna fucking kill us Yeah that's the thing that kind of sucks about not having any more hair because like you can kind of like pretend that you're really doing more than you are i'm gonna need to be like i actually need to be like strapped on a piece of wood and then someone just pushes you know what i'm saying right so so the back straight stay away is the hardest song for me yeah mentally but honestly like a lot of these songs have kind of like big last choruses so get ready i think naomi's gonna i'm gonna put a lot of it on naomi because naomi like is loki like has a crazy mix voice yeah we got a big range yeah it's falling on you now babe yeah yeah i'm not gonna take it yeah yeah which part are you thinking of i mean like all the ad-libs at the end of even dancing on the wall you guys i'll start to do them i'm yeah i'll take it started having to practice them around no i'm practicing i'm gonna be we're gonna be fucked i know you're gonna be don't know how to play music anymore

39:19that's our tour name right some hard like i'm actually thinking about it not good some of the stuff is gonna be actually i know i know and it always seems like a good idea horrible i wonder if this happens to you like it seems like a good idea when you're when you're writing it yeah and And then you're like, oh, the fact you have to call it. Yeah. Yeah. The next word is Guna. Who's your celebrity crush? I'm still like dead inside. You know what I mean? Not even a bad way. I'm like Kelly. Like my, my fiance. She has fiance. She has crushes like all the time. She really does. That's fun. Like, cause she's like, she, she, she, she loves beauty.

40:00I was talking about my crush yesterday, but I can't remember who. Well, we were both talking about, well, we were all talking about a crush that we share. Who? Oh, yeah. Yeah, should we just answer that? Sharon Horgan. Yeah, she's beautiful. She's from, she's in Bad Sisters and she has a catastrophe. Yeah, catastrophe. She's Irish. She's really funny. But also, I love her, but I don't have a crush on her. That's not you. I mean, I have a crush on her. Fierce, though. We all have a crush on you, then. I feel like I had, maybe there's another one. I just like, do you guys like feel like crushes?

40:34Like? I don't, like people don't move. Like we were having a conversation the other day and it was like, what music video when you were younger gave you like, what do they call it? The feelings. Yeah, yeah. I just think everyone's like a friend. Yeah, yeah, yeah, totally. At this point, I feel the same. When I was younger, I was getting crushed by people. Now I'm just, my hormones, you know what I'm saying? Yeah. leveled out i will say we did some um we did some promo yesterday at radio one love i think jack saunders is so cute so cute i'm so cute so sweet yeah and when he bleached his hair there was one time that i saw him that he had bleached his hair and i wasn't prepared for it and i said wow yeah you're just giving a good job yeah he's getting gay compliments yeah i mean sorry jack Yeah, it's like, it's like it because that also is something that works on me for lesbians every time.

41:33Like when a lesbian like bleaches their hair and it gets a buzz cut. Yeah, it works every time. Yeah, I mean the fucking time. Shave. Yeah, actually, I don't know if it does. What if you have a really funny fucking hair? Shave your hair, get one earring. You know, I just like I really can't think of a time it hasn't worked on me. And it worked on me with with actually a man as well. I'm trying to think. Oh, yeah. Back in the day. Oh, well, I wasn't. and get it right back throwing it way back so do a sad time it is three yeah so i think we are we're rapping yeah we just failed because we could talk all day because yeah i hope we got we did i just think it's a big thing but do we we should plug some stuff yeah well Plug everybody listening to this.

42:26I want to plug people to listen to this. Yeah. Plug your tunes. Yeah. My eBay that I'm selling some nice new clothes on. Are you really? That's awesome. No, I need to. It's time to do it. I'm on eBay. I love eBay. You know who does a bunch of stuff with eBay is Chapel. Yeah. What? The authentication thing that they all do at the Met as well. Which Chapel sells on eBay? Yeah. And we'll have eBay shops. like it's kind of somebody's like there was an ebay shop like brick and mortar yeah i think for her charity for midwest princess um yeah what would i have to sell on the ebay yeah good question looking right at us new album you could sell it true i think for us the main thing to plug would just be the album and yeah and we i think we we're recording this on the day that are like shows that are going to be here in may like they they all sold out so we're very grateful for that we're going to come back later in the year don't be upset we're going to come back yeah so we're plugging don't be mad at us and we're going to come to other places in the uk we're going to be all around you it's going to be at a venue and come back on here as well when you're back and then we'll do some like agony aunts next time and like fans sent in questions.

Louis is uploading this from a beach in Mexico like a very proud uncle. Not a pervy uncle. A one that is really good at giving hugs and wears cute rimless glasses right at the bottom of his nose so every time he looks at you he bears the uncanny resemblance of a playful sea lion. Enjoy folks
