In short
Podcast Summary: SuperLife with Darin Olien - Episode with Dani Fontaine
Episode Overview In this episode of *SuperLife*, host Darin Olien interviews Dani Fontaine, a pioneer in cannabis research and plant medicine. The discussion revolves around the endocannabinoid system (ECS), a crucial yet often overlooked aspect of human biology that regulates various bodily functions, including mood, sleep, pain, and consciousness. Dani explains the significance of the ECS and its interactions with cannabinoids, nature, and our environment.
Key Concepts
- Endocannabinoid System (ECS)
- Definition: The ECS is a homeostatic regulatory system present in all mammals, essential for maintaining balance in bodily functions.
- Functions: It influences mood, sleep, pain perception, and overall health through a network of receptors distributed throughout the body.
- Retrograde Signaling: Unlike other biological systems, the ECS communicates in reverse, integrating sensory information from the environment and regulating bodily responses accordingly.
- Cannabinoids and Their Role
- Endogenous Cannabinoids: The body produces natural cannabinoids, like anandamide (the "bliss molecule"), which help maintain balance.
- Phyto-cannabinoids: Plant-derived cannabinoids, such as those found in cannabis, can support and enhance the ECS, promoting healing and overall well-being.
- Influences on ECS Function
- Environment: Natural settings and exposure to light, sound, and other sensory inputs can positively influence ECS function.
- Diet: Nutrient-rich foods, particularly those high in omega fatty acids and terpenes, are essential for supporting ECS health.
Key Discussions
- Impact of Modern Living: The episode addresses how artificial light and processed foods can disrupt the ECS, leading to various health issues.
- Healing Properties of Nature: Exposure to nature not only soothes the mind but also activates the ECS, promoting healing and balance.
- Medical Suppression of ECS Knowledge: Dani highlights the deliberate omission of ECS research from mainstream medical education, leading to widespread ignorance about its significance.
Practical Takeaways Dani Fontaine and Darin Olien offer several actionable recommendations for listeners to enhance their ECS function and overall health:
- Get Natural Light: Spend time outdoors, especially during sunrise and sunset, to benefit from natural light exposure.
- Engage in Movement: Incorporate physical activities that stimulate the lower spine, such as dancing or yoga, to enhance ECS modulation.
- Utilize Sound Therapy: Listen to calming instrumental music to positively influence the ECS and reduce stress.
- Practice Breathwork: Implement diaphragmatic breathing techniques to enhance oxygen flow and ECS function.
Final Thoughts The conversation concludes with a reminder of the ECS’s role as a bridge between our bodies and the universe. By understanding and nurturing this system, individuals can reconnect with their health, nature, and spiritual essence.
Key Quote "Your endocannabinoid system isn't just a biology lesson — it's a bridge between your body and the universe. When you feed it light, breath, and truth, you remember what balance actually feels like."

Today's guest is a woman who's quietly becoming one of the most important plant medicine healers of our time. Dani Fontaine isn't just an entrepreneur or a cannabis pioneer. She's a practitioner who's worked hands-on with over 7 ,000 patients and people to help them rebalance their bodies by activating the most overlooked biological system in modern medicine, the endocannabinoid system.
2:24Darin Olien:In this conversation, Dani takes us on a deep dive into the real science, the spiritual intelligence of this incredible regulatory system informing the entirety of our body. We talk about the power of cannabinoids, not just external, but endogenous, way beyond THC and CBD. The role of the body's receptor network in balancing immunity, inflammation, trauma, and how this plant is much more than just a trend. It's a sacred ally for the systemic healing, both externally and endogenously. You'll hear how she built her healing protocols over a decade of grassroots work with real patients, the incredible story of how she opened the world's first hemp-based spa and product line, and how hemp can heal not just individuals, but our planet.
3:28Darin Olien:Whether you're new to plant medicine or not, you're going to discover a lot about what the body's receptors actually are inside our body. And you're going to deeply be immersed in the healing arts. This is a masterclass in the functional cannabis medicine. feminine intelligence and the forgotten wisdom of nature's most misunderstood plant hook in and hold on you are going to learn something today with my good friend danny fontaine danny fontaine thanks for coming on the super life podcast stoked to have you thanks for coming from boulder yes colorado um we've been your other favorite city obvious yeah yeah i mean it's uh It's a place where I spent a lot of time.
4:19Darin Olien:And it was such a great time from college through my 30s. Yeah.
4:27Dani Fontaine:It's a little bit different these days, but it's still absolutely beautiful. Yeah. That's the best part.
4:32Darin Olien:I try to come back every year, but I haven't seemed to make it this year.
4:36Dani Fontaine:Well, next time you come through, you'll have to come and experience the center when you come.
4:41Darin Olien:Yes. So we're stoked to have you. Thank you. Represent the Boulder. And so kind of where I think we should start is this straight up endocannabinoid system that no one really knows much about.
5:05Dani Fontaine:And they don't know the whole part.
5:08Darin Olien:They don't know the whole part. Or at all. You're right. And we won't get into why it was scrubbed from the Flexner report, and that's too much of... The truth is, you don't need to know what happened. No one knows much about it. And yet it is a very, very powerful system that you have unique insight to.
5:32Dani Fontaine:Yes.
5:33Darin Olien:Two. So maybe from a general perspective, so that once you start geeking out and getting into a lot of the other regulatory aspects that the endocannabinoid system affects and produces and supports, let's just lay out what is it, what is it doing, both endogenously and kind of unpack the system of how it works first and then how we can influence it.
6:15Dani Fontaine:Okay.
6:18Darin Olien:But let's just create the framework of like what is the endocannabinoid system.
6:22Dani Fontaine:Okay, so the endocannabinoid system is our homeostasic system. Okay, so like we have all these systems in the body that manage and do certain things. This system is the homeostasic one. It's the one that balances all the other systems.
6:37Darin Olien:So that statement already is like, what?
6:42Dani Fontaine:Yes, I know.
6:43Darin Olien:Right, because...
6:44Dani Fontaine:You would think that we should be taught this thing.
6:45Darin Olien:Right, because even, you know, having some physiology background, you're going, okay, communication system, central nervous system, everything weirdly is already reduced down to like systems communication system was i i was taught it's the hormones central nervous system parasympathetic sympathetic blah blah blah but now with that statement it's it's essentially touching all of those things and potentially informing all of those things yes so how the hell How is it doing that?
7:22Dani Fontaine:So it does it through a signaling, a retrograde signaling receptor system. Retrograde, what does that mean? So it's going backwards.
7:31Darin Olien:Okay.
7:32Dani Fontaine:So everything in our body is fluid in a forward-flowing motion. Everything. You know, I mean, like the torrent. Everything is forward. It has to move. It has to move.
7:42Darin Olien:That's life. Yes. Nothing's a circle. It's toroidal. It's flowing. Yeah.
7:46Dani Fontaine:This is a retrograde system, meaning that it goes in reverse, and it actually signals in reverse. And the way that it's signaling is it's signaling through its receptor system, because the receptors are embedded throughout our total makeup of our body and the auric field also. It's not just the inside system, it's the outside system as well. So it's managing both all the sensory input and then taking it and putting it into a biological process and making us be able to mirror ourselves in the best way to keep us in balance. But when this system gets either overexpressed or under modulated, that's what happens to the person.
8:34Dani Fontaine:And that's the result of it. And based on their DNA, depends on how it actually presents. But that's ultimately what happens is it's coming in. It's taking all of the information, all of the information from around us, sensory input, everything we feed ourselves, including the food. It takes all this information based on its receptors.
8:55Darin Olien:So it's taking that energy system, the layers of our energy system. It's taking in all of that from the Schumann resonance to the light waves to the field of feeling and sensing from another person. So what you're saying is there's a receptive organism, call it, that is very sensitive, that is on so many of the subtle bodies.
9:29Dani Fontaine:Every single one of them.
9:30Darin Olien:Every single one of them. And that is then forming the instruction for the chemical, for the biologic, for the hormones.
9:42Dani Fontaine:All the neurotransmitters. It's such a vast system. It's taken me 17 years to fully get it. And I was actually introduced to it through working with it with people and plants. So I learned from it from a human standpoint. and understanding how it works from a human dynamic and then took it to the lab and then understood how it worked like in the very chemical processes of when we work with plants and humans and how this interacts, you know, and understanding that, oh, my gosh, it's not just this one plant that balances our total system.
10:22Darin Olien:Meaning cannabis. Yes.
10:24Dani Fontaine:It is all things that we can attune into tone the ECS. It's called an ECS tone, okay, endocannabinoid system toning. That means that we want to attune the things around us, attune the environment, and then also, yes, the things inside of us, but the main thing is our environment. That's why when people go into nature and they have cancer, they get healed. It's your input. It's your sensory input. That's where we can modulate these receptors with sensory input, not with just food.
10:57Darin Olien:Right, and instantly.
10:58Dani Fontaine:And it's really all receptor-driven. Like we were talking.
11:02Darin Olien:So it's almost like, you know, they say go to nature, right? And we instantly calm down. We look at a river. One of my favorite things in Boulder was to drive my Harley to a river, hang out, read, write, sit by a river, right?
11:18Dani Fontaine:It's literally the best.
11:19Darin Olien:And so in this context, it potentially is that system that is the modulator between the unseen but physical side of nature and the frequency electromagnetic communication that we always are having. and that that then is feeding feeding so when we say about you know people say it all the time we talk about in the car sympathetic versus versus sympathetic people yes people are in this modern

11:59Dani Fontaine:world dominant and sympathetic and stressed totally so when you go into nature that system
12:06Darin Olien:then is taking in that information through the ECS and then informing everything else. So it's an answer. It's a potential answer to how is nature doing that to us? We say to do it. It's like electricity. We know that electrons flow. We don't know actually how it works. This is
12:31Dani Fontaine:actually how it's working in nature. This is actually how it's working in real time when we eat something, when we interact with someone. Our CB1 receptors are receiving this information in the plasmic makeup of everything. And then it breaks it down in such an intelligent way for based on the human and based on their dynamics, it's keeping them in as best balance as possible to keep them alive, you know? And when the system gets worn, the body gets worn and then they go. And that's just how it goes because the system, the energetic force cannot keep up. When the physical body depletes, it's because the energy has depleted.
13:14Dani Fontaine:It's not vice versa.
13:15Darin Olien:As the last kind of...
13:17Dani Fontaine:As the last boom. It's the last thing that even feels anything. All of our receptors are sensing. We're sensing the geometric shape imprints, the wave forms, everything that's coming to us. And then the body hits it and puts it into this dense process of feeling, of force, of like this, oh, okay, I'm here. Like, I feel, I love, I know, I, you know, all of the I am's, it's what you are, you know, versus when we aren't in this physical form we're just there we're we are sensory you know basically projectors at that point versus receivers right here we're receivers you know we're receiving all inputs that's what's so cool yeah we are the receptor we are the receiver and then we can take it take that signal inside of us and if we have the willpower and we have to have all of the right stuff inside of us we put it back out and that's how we come back into a balanced state otherwise people don't know how to put out information.
14:19Dani Fontaine:It's either too chaotic or too not, you know, or they're too this or too that versus this balanced state of what homeostasis actually is, which is really balance. I mean, like, tell me another system that is the homeostasis system, please, like doctors. I mean, I'm pretty interested because I've been doing this for 17 years, and I don't understand how more people don't understand that we will never get into balance till we tend to this system. And that's why sound and light and breath and all these things are helping people because it's our input. That's why this stuff works so well. It's the input of what we are densely made of.
15:02Dani Fontaine:You know?
15:02Darin Olien:Yeah, because that's the, again, I'm going to reiterate, but it's not only nature, but it's that, I guess it's that receiver. Yeah. that's receiving the sound receiving why it feels good to listen to music to hang out with people that you feel good around it is that that layer that we just i guess bypass because we don't know
15:30Dani Fontaine:about it we just know it's happening we just know it's happening and the more that we can attune it the more people can take and be their own healers right when we give this stuff out to people when we put our sound outside of ourselves when we're like oh we go to a concert and all this stuff we don't understand that the the frequencies and also the bubbles of everybody around us actually heavily affect our field i mean our field just goes into this state of like oh my god you know like i can't believe i'm doing this right now and it has to intake all this extra heavy heavy extra sensory input that's why people are overstimulated is because they're doing things to their field, to themselves that they don't really know that they're doing or how it's doing.
16:11Dani Fontaine:But when we realize what this system is, we can actually attune it. We can attune it.
16:16Darin Olien:Right. Like CB1, CB2, all the receptor-based families within this whole system, which there's seven
16:24Dani Fontaine:of them, all of those receptor systems are the things that are modulating our total reality through every cell, neural, and blast makeup, fascia fibroblast. I mean, you know, it's part of every cell. How, how, you tell me another system that has a receptor on every cell and neural makeup and every part of every aspect.
16:46Darin Olien:Yeah, so let's, let's make that super clear for people. So we have potentially 7 trillion cells.
16:52Dani Fontaine:Oh yes, this is my favorite. Right? But then. I love numbers, yeah.
16:55Darin Olien:Yeah, so, so, but then as you're saying, every cell has. It has.
17:03Dani Fontaine:So we're talking about a fascia fibroblast specifically when we were talking about it. So fascia fibroblast, that's the main cellular makeup of fascia. And fascia, again, covers everything. Covers everything. Every aspect of who we are.
17:17Darin Olien:It connects every physical aspect of every organ, every joint, it's wrapping all of us.
17:25Dani Fontaine:And they say that it's in the crystalline makeup too, outside of ourselves. But with it being there, and yes, it is there, it has to have the things that are receiving the information because fascia has a role. When you think about us and the makeup of who we are and who designed the process, first of all, genius, eh? But then the fact that everything has its role. It's like every person coming here with its purpose. There's a purpose to every system. So the fact that the whole homeostasis system has been left out, we can't tend to the whole. There's no ability to. So when we tend to fascia, in fascia fibroblasts specifically, every gram of fascia has about 10 to 20 million cells, fascia fibroblast cells.
18:26Dani Fontaine:This is this big, you know, of fascia has 10 to 20. Within every cell, there's 100 to 1 ,000 receptors that are taking in the input, that are receiving. That's why they're called receptors. They're receiving the information to then be signaled and properly communicated through. It's the same thing with humans, you know, how we communicate. We receive the information, and we want to share it with our friends. We receive all this great, you know, talents. We want to share it. If we don't share it properly, we start getting sick. We start getting down. You know, it's the same thing, the way that it works with the system, the way that it works with humans on a micro and macro level.
19:08Dani Fontaine:And that's just the beauty of it because that makes it make more sense for everybody because everybody has the system, all things with the spine, not just us. So the fact that the receptors are the main receivers, that's what we need to focus on, the inputs.
19:26Darin Olien:And how does it start to break down? Like how do, especially in our modern world, like where does it go south in terms of like how do you know that the receptor or the communication system has broken down?
19:44Dani Fontaine:Great question. So we'll use light. Okay. Light is one of our main inputs. our main input. And light is natural from God. When we're outside in the sunshine, we evolved in natural light. We didn't really start getting this fake light until 100 years ago when it started being developed and then really pushed in the 60s or something like that. So I call it false light versus true light. When we receive true light, our receptors in our retina, which receive the information, the light codes, okay, they're receiving into our eyes. They communicate with this little space in our brain called the super chiasmatic nucleus.
20:27Dani Fontaine:This little space is the part that actually manages our circadian rhythms. It manages the ability for us to sleep and wake on the proper time. This first thing that actually is being disrupted is our light receptors. Not only do we have it in our retinas, we also have it in our keratinocytes, which we have CB1 receptors in those as well, that are receiving the light outside in our skin. So when we put things on our skin and disrupt the ability to receive that proper light, that's also a disruptor. So it's the first main inputs that are coming to us that are actually being disrupted. So the blue light is a false code.
21:10Dani Fontaine:Normally, I like to tell people, let's just say, because it's basic for normal people, we have a geometric imprint of a triangle coming from us. This is the sun, and it hits us, okay? Blue light is like this inverted triangle. It's coming down. It's there, but it's false. So that disruption to our receptors, it only receives a partial fragment of that. So it's not a full spectrum. It's not a full spectrum. So it deteriorates slowly and slowly by not receiving the full input. This is same with sound, same with breath. It's all of what we are, the sensory inputs, our six senses. If we don't receive the right input, this comes down to sound wave, everything, the receptors start getting worn by the trillions.
21:56Dani Fontaine:Then the cells get affected. Then the organs and tissues get affected. Then we start feeling it.
22:02Darin Olien:So one could make the argument that because we've, in this modern world, we've reduced things down to so many things. So, hey, you know, industrial revolution, we created a bunch of weird food along with different lights, right? Oh, baby. It's a hell of a situation. You know, we provide food, but at the same time, it's not fresh food. It's not whole food. it's not photon rich food that came fake imprints right so so that seems to me then would would also start to break down this 100 especially the physical receptors right the ones that are
22:47Dani Fontaine:based in the gut i mean in the spleen in the liver and in every aspect of who we are by bulk so every single cell has one receptor to I mean sorry a hundred to a thousand receptors now in bulk when we have like let's say in our hippocampus because this is our main memory storage in order for CB for in order for our endocannabinoid system to manage memory we have to have it bulked in certain places so like when it triggers our memory our hippocampus we have to like so let me back up fascia we'll go back to fascia as to how because people say that oh you know emotions and fascia and memory and fascia really what's happening is we're triggering receptors through that modulation process and we can modulate our body through six senses so touch yes we can we have physical receptors that we are upon force and twist we are able to trigger and or modulate, I should say, not necessarily trigger because they're active at all times, more so modulate in a different direction in a healthier state.
23:57Dani Fontaine:So we can twist and touch when we breathe in our CB1 receptors and our mucosal receptors are the things that help us breathe. It takes in the breath. It takes in air in order for us to be able to process it from our respiratory to our gut and back and forth. And that's just how, and then to all of our cells, that's just how it works. The mitochondrial, we have MTCB1 receptors that work together. They're literally the same cell. There's not another cell that has a twin like mitochondrial and endocannabinoids that work together to bring in the energy to be able to modulate it properly and then send it out.
24:38Dani Fontaine:That is the endocannabinoid system working with your mitochondrial cells in order to give you proper energy. Because it's the input to give to the cell. It's connected to every cell. So immune cells, it's an immunomodulator. Every cell, it's going in and bringing a homeostasic process to that cell and system.
25:02Darin Olien:And since it's called endocannabinoid, we think of it as, I mean, people are probably thinking like, oh, yes, cannabis or CBD or THC or something like that. But so let's break apart. That's the best part, too. Yeah, let's break apart the endogenous supporting structure that we already have inside of us to support this system. And then let's talk about those inputs of how we can better modulate that system.
25:36Dani Fontaine:So the endogenous system, everybody with a spine has it. Everything with a spine. So it's not just us. Ultimately, it's a protein receptor system. So when I say receptors, these receptors are built out of protein. So physically. Out here, it's plasmic. Physically, it is definitely a protein-based system. So we need the proper types of consumed physical stuff to support the protein aspect of that. This means proper enzymes. This means proper proteins. It doesn't mean too much. It does mean proper DHAs because that's really the main basis of it is like this, you know, omega-rich, you know, the proper omegas.
26:24Dani Fontaine:So that's the system, endogenous system. It's a signaling communication system. In medical school, we were taught communication system. That's the endocannabinoid system. It's the main communication modulating system. It's the system they just decided to actually not mention, but give it a name. So that we kind of go on confused in life. So we don't realize that this system is much more than just a physical communication system. So that's where they tricked us with the endogenous factor. The plant factor is the fact that cannabis is our phytotwin, is what I like to call. It is our makeup outside of us.
27:10Dani Fontaine:Not just the cannabinoid aspect, but the terpene aspect and the protein and omega aspect, the enzyme aspect. That whole part of the plant, I mean, the whole makeup of the plant is why it reflects so well inside of us, because it's a plant of balance. Why did they, I mean, it's called the endocannabinoid system for a reason.
27:33Darin Olien:How did that happen?
27:35Dani Fontaine:Yeah.
27:35Darin Olien:To your point, that someone named it because they saw some sort of relationship that was obviously quite beneficial.
27:42Dani Fontaine:So the labs, you know, taking it to a lab setting. doctors the doctor that founded it in the 1960s he's the gentleman that termed it really endocannabinoid because he was working with THC to see what it does in the cells and realized that it was triggering a whole system of CB1 receptors and he was like oh cannabinoid endocannabinoid because it's an endogenous thing that actually when you take so this is let me tell you how he found that out so when you take CBD versus THC it's a different type of process inside the human body when we take CBD it is a mirror it comes in as a signal like we were talking it's like hey friend like I'm here to help you remember who you are and it comes out and it's like oh I remember who I am on a cellular level on a cellular level yeah and energetically it does that to us as well but ultimately when we consume THC it comes in and it stops us from producing our own anandamide so anandamide is one of our two endogenous endocannabinoids so it's the two main ones we make it we have it we make it but we make them on demand yeah they're not just sitting around it's not just from cacao it's not no no no it's not amazing right yeah cacao black truffles
29:08Darin Olien:in cannabis actually have and produce anandamide so but the way that thc specifically that one
29:15Dani Fontaine:compound works within us and why it doesn't work the same in cacao or black truffles is because it comes in is like this agonist where it makes us stop producing our own anandamide so when people smoke and and consume cannabis oftentimes you get this sense of joy people are happier, they sense better, they say sound is better, everything's better, sex is better, everything's heightened. This is how we, you know, this is what people feel. This is because THC comes in as a strong hit of bliss versus our own natural production of bliss.
29:55Darin Olien:When we're born,
29:57Dani Fontaine:we come in not remembering our greatness, ultimately, which that is a huge sense of bliss, is remembering who we actually are. When you realize we're layers and not just this physical person, you just get lit up. You know what I'm saying? That's why I'm so happy every day. I'm like, oh, I'm not just this thing down here.
30:20Dani Fontaine:But it helps you remember that. I'm sorry, I forgot where I was going. The endogenous.
30:26Darin Olien:Yeah, the endogenous and the doctor. I'm going to finalize that point of how he discovered it too.
30:31Dani Fontaine:Yeah, so the doctor, so he took it, THC. so I'm talking about how he did it so THC stops the production of anandamide he saw when you take THC that it triggered a whole system to stop producing and he was like what the hell is this whole what is this whole system right oh my god what it's not just a cell where it makes it's not just the 5-HT where serotonin is blocks that whole system no it is the whole system and so then it It took him more and more, and then endocannabinoid came out. You know, the whole thing is it still is so not researched properly that people don't know. And this is why it's taken me 17 years to collect all the data from every aspect of everything in human beings as well.
31:21Dani Fontaine:It's like you can't trace it as to what it is. They've done a really good job at just dividing it up to never figuring it out. Yeah, it shows up.
31:31Darin Olien:Shows up in a lot of different ways.
31:32Dani Fontaine:In different ways with different names. And you're like, oh no, but it has to be the communication system. Actually, it's not. You know, ECS is our main signaling communication system. Let's prove it with science. You know, like it's there.
31:44Darin Olien:I'd like to take a quick break from this episode to thank our sponsor, Fatty15. That's right. I want to talk about something that isn't talked about enough. Keeping ourselves healthy. Here's what I'm doing now to prioritize cellular health. supplementing with this new exciting research and it's called fatty 15 fatty 15 has three times more cellular benefit than omega-3s or fish oil this is dietary odd chain saturated fatty acids ocfas they are present trace levels in dietary fat some fish and plants higher circulating concentrations of this OCFS, we realize through the research that higher circulating concentrations of this is extremely good for us.
32:40Darin Olien:It is called pentadonic chaotic acid or C15. Omega-3 fish oils and algae oils often go bad before they're even in the bottle. That's right. They're susceptible to oxygen and sunlight, and the supplements can't even help to improve our health usually. But fatty 15 or C15 naturally protects against damaging oxidation, both in the bottle and in your body. If you want to get a little more science-y about it, studies show that C15 works by strengthening our cells, improving our mitochondria function, and protecting us against damage from free radicals on a very deep level. The result, better long-term metabolic liver and heart health functioning.
33:30Darin Olien:It ends up many of us are massively deficient in C15, which results in weaker and weaker cells that makes us have less energy. And we quit working earlier. We're seeking to find that energy. Where is it? All of this makes us age faster and faster. and the science around this is so fascinating. We sleep poorly, we feel sluggish, and we're all looking to feel better and have more energy. Does it sound familiar? Fatty 15 is science-backed, award-winning, vegan-friendly, and pure C15 supplement. That's it. By replenishing ourselves with this newly discovered C15, the nutrient of fatty 15 effectively repairs our cells and restores our long-term health.
34:27Darin Olien:That's when you have to celebrate science. When science discovered something sitting there all along, after 90 years of discovering essential fatty acids like omega-3, 6, and 9, we now have discovered this incredible odd chain saturated fat c15 fatty 15 is on a mission to replenish your c15 levels and restore your long-term health and i'm with them in that you can get an additional 15 off your 90-day subscription starter kit by going to fatty 15 f-a-t-t-y one five dot com slash Darren, D-A-R-I-N, or use the code Darren, D-A-R-I-N, at checkout. You will not want to miss this incredible deal and this incredible uptick to your healthy cells.
35:25Dani Fontaine:There's more studies on the endocannabinoid system than any system.
35:28Darin Olien:Is there? Yes.
35:31Dani Fontaine:And it's not put out there. This is what's so frustrating. It's like, you could study anything you want with the ECS. You're a doctor, let's say, in oncology, go. Go for it. Every type of everything you could ever research, go for it. Literally, it's there. Anything. Anything for dental, anything for reproduction, anything for recovery, for mental, for emotional, every type of everything, there is more studies about this system than any system out there.
36:07Darin Olien:It's wild.
36:09Dani Fontaine:I mean the heart you'd think like oh my god we have so many studies on the heart no we don't
36:14Darin Olien:not compared to the ECS right it's like nothing so and that's one aspect of it that's the alarming thing that again we don't have enough space to break down why that was kind of scrubbed from matter medical literature but but if it's shown up in all of these ways and have all these studies you go to any doctor and maybe any doctor, any doctor, even naturopaths, even Ayurveda, they know a little bit about it. They're like, you know, to the extent at which they can even say endocannabinoid, but they say CBD. But there's no relation even with traditional Chinese medicine or Ayurveda. It's almost like they're using the system, them but they're not aware that everybody uses it yeah and that's what that's how it's so
37:12Dani Fontaine:it's pretty frustrating because people are so stuck in their ways they're so stuck in their own teachings and or their own experiences it's hard to put this information into in front of people that have studied a certain thing their whole life and they're like no this is definitely I'm like, here's a study, you know, like here's 100 studies and here's a human. Here's maybe 50 humans, you know, that I've physically seen this happen with. You know, it's not like I've worked with over 7 ,000 people. You know, that's not a little bit of our people. I've worked with all different issues. Every issue you could think of in the world, I've worked with.
37:51Dani Fontaine:Every single one of them. How does cannabinoid therapies work on every person? you tell me this. Like, you know, it's because it mirrors us. It mirrors ourselves to literally produce our own endogenous production to go and manage what's going on on the inside.
38:12Darin Olien:Yeah.
38:13Dani Fontaine:Who wouldn't want to know that? You know, and when people take CBD, they're like, oh, it doesn't help me. Well, it's working on such a refined cellular level, you would never really know unless you're so out of whack that you have to feel it yeah so let's talk about pain in
38:29Darin Olien:particular because that's kind of the the place where cbd got its name and that and you know so and even you know like i was telling you my back injury was on my back for two months and i couldn't even i couldn't even sit like this and i had some people coming over and they were i had some suppositories like a huge amount of CBD and THC up my ass just trying to do something totally along with some other stuff but um not it's a snake venom which is a lot of studies around that but it didn't really touch my level of pain but but I feel now with the details that you're talking about that i maybe wasn't using the right in the right way or i wasn't looking at or wasn't being assessed properly it's almost like here's some cbd it's all the same take it and it and so many people say it doesn't work for me so so how does it work and maybe it's an individual obviously an individual situation.
39:44Darin Olien:It really does come down to that anyway. And even though if we talk supplements, supplements don't work. I don't want to be so general because they do work for some people, but we're all individuals. And specifically as you're talking about this very complex system, both from the subtle energy all the way to the chemical and biologic, if I'm just taking a type of CBD receptor, that may not be what I need. So how does that work with pain and why is it not working as well for some people?
40:29Dani Fontaine:So let's go back to when we were talking about nature and being out there because there's a lot of people that have said they go out into nature and their pain levels go down. So I want to just use more nature as kind of an example right here because cannabinoids, we'll talk about it in just a second, but most people have access to nature versus cannabinoids.
40:52Darin Olien:So that's a good way to turn on the communication for your own endogenous system.
40:59Dani Fontaine:And the way that is is because our receptors, what they're receiving, let's say we're out in the forest. Most forests produce this compound called pinene. okay most trees have this pine pinene essence in it and it's makeup and it's dna pinene is actually well it's one of the best compounds that we could consume but it's the main compound in pine it's in a whole bunch of other makeups too yes it's amazing tincture tincture yeah mostly you can do it in tincture you can do it in aromatics you can you know the nasal inhalers that i have You can do it on all different forms. But pining is produced on a large scale within cannabis too.
41:40Dani Fontaine:So when we're out in nature and we're out there just sensing and absorbing all of our inputs, on a very, very microscopic level, we are consuming this terpene out in nature and or terpenes of sorts. There could be linole, there could be myrcene, terpenolene, limonene. there's a total bunch of different types of terpenes that we are smelling because they're hydrocarbon molecules that are just floating around us at all times our basically our pheromones are our own terpene profile you know is it kind of makes you it's your own smell you know but everything terpenes are like everything we smell tastes neat it's in all things plants grasses every aspect of everything just depends on what terpene it's a family has different types of chains okay so one chain to 12 chains each chain makes it a different type of terpene so we have a monoterpene a sesquiterpene all these different types of terpenes out there okay when we're out there in nature most the ones out in nature are able to penetrate us whether it be through our skin or through our olfactory system in a way where it gets to the blood brain barriers you know
42:50Darin Olien:where it can affect us and olfactory is potentially one of the most sophisticated ways to receive it
42:56Dani Fontaine:It is, in my opinion, it's the most. I don't know if there's a more sophisticated system. I just talk about smell all day long.
43:04Darin Olien:Even going down to food selection. Oh, 100%. So all mammals, FYI, all mammals select their food upon ripening, upon what their body needs at that particular time through their olfactory. We're the only stupid mammals that are manipulated by marketing and smells and sugars and salts and all of that stuff. but in fact I've actually done this I had a group come in 25 years ago blindfolded a whole thing of whole food on the table and then we did selection and ultimately it got down to this whole thing of food into at that point a specific food my body wanted and I didn't know what it was and then it revealed and when I ate it It was the most blissful, incredible, exact profile that I needed at that moment.
43:59Dani Fontaine:Anandamide, yeah, because it's bliss. You produced so much inside of you in your force field that you were able to produce it inside of your body, anandamide, the molecule of bliss, and actually digest it too.
44:12Darin Olien:And wanted whatever those compounds in that food.
44:15Dani Fontaine:Yes, because you're receiving it properly versus receiving things that we don't really need.
44:21Darin Olien:Well, I was also picking up of what I needed to receive. Right? So I'm smelling it and I know, like, you feel your body go lean in.
44:32Dani Fontaine:100%.
44:32Darin Olien:As opposed to, you know, just grabbing, I want a banana because it looks good.
44:38Dani Fontaine:Because it looks good, yeah. Oh, no, 100 % or anything like that cake or whatever. It looks like so good, you know? So, yeah, the receiving, though, where were we going with it?
44:47Darin Olien:So we were talking about nature.
44:49Dani Fontaine:Oh, the nature, okay.
44:50Darin Olien:And the terpenes and getting all of that receptivity through the endocannabinoid system, which is already alone.
44:57Dani Fontaine:Yeah.
44:58Darin Olien:So powerful. If people just walk away, because this is obviously deep for people. Oh, it's a lot.
45:03Dani Fontaine:Because it's a matrix moment.
45:05Darin Olien:It is. People right now are scratching their head going, how is this possible? if if one percent of what she's saying is true then we have a system that i haven't heard about they barely have heard about uh when i'm saying they people listening yeah that you're going what it starts to make sense from i'm i'm glad you use nature because it starts to make sense from that because it's that it's that it's that very subtle thing that we've not been able to really go well why is it doing it what what something something is taking in that information something man so when someone says go to nature and you will feel better yeah in some form or fashion you will de-stress something is modulating that period and and and that to me i don't pretend to know all certainly in this area but it's starting and the more i've communicated with you something's starting to make sense and is enlivened a level of curiosity because it's bridging something that it's, like we said.
46:31Darin Olien:It's communicating.
46:32Dani Fontaine:It's signaling.
46:33Darin Olien:But it's also revealing something. And so for us as humans, like we were saying on the way over, the microscope. Yeah. Right? When we reveal something that shows us another world, now we adapt our now knowledge based on that world to go, So there's germs I cannot see, I can't feel, but they're dangerous to an open wound. So therefore, or my mouth. So now it's informed society.
47:08Dani Fontaine:Yeah.
47:09Darin Olien:Wash your hands.
47:10Dani Fontaine:Wash your hands. Yeah.
47:10Darin Olien:So that's what this feels like to me. In 2025, and having dedicated my life to health in a certain sense, I'm feeling like I'm learning more since I started talking to you, like a quantum leap more. because it's starting to make I can't prove it myself but I I start to intuit and I start to I start to feel something or acknowledge something and so it feels like that microscope moment you're like there's something going on I'm seeing something I'm feeling something and to your point your your your your current world is is treating vis-a-vis through this system oh yeah and having a lot of results i mean i keep people alive i've kept a couple people alive for 15 years
48:12Dani Fontaine:you know there's this system it's our again it's our homeostasis system i don't want to lose the fact that we were talking about nature and pain just real fast yeah yeah so the nature and pain and the pinene just real fast. So pinene is an anti-inflammatory. So, of course, it's going to help with pain, you know. On a very microscopic level, when you're out in nature, it's helping you in that way. When you take it down to a concentrated level and you use it in a product like, let's say, one of the products that I have, like any one of them, you're hitting it in a way where it's affecting your receptor like a heavy hit.
48:46Dani Fontaine:So it's a nice dose of IV in your brain, nice dose of iv straight to their blood brain barrier you know versus going out in nature and having to spend let's say three four five ten days 16 days however long maybe a month however long going out into nature to heal yourself this is like a fast hit so being able to understand what receptors like for pain cb1 we have trpv channels and so our trpv1 is one of the channels that is the main modulator of pain so when people talk about pain they're like oh this and this and this We have to tend to the fact that these CB1 and TRPV receptors are overexpressed, calling for first responder help all the time because nothing's modulating it to get back into balance.
49:31Dani Fontaine:How do we bring those two receptors back into balance so the pain actually goes away?
49:37Darin Olien:What's happening? We have so many examples of chronic pain. Yeah. What's happening with fibromyalgia?
49:46Dani Fontaine:Overexpression of receptors.
49:48Darin Olien:Because people are like full body pain.
49:50Dani Fontaine:Oh, yeah. Because when it's on your nerves, when you have receptors that are on your nerves that are triggering this nerve pain, this bone pain, receptors, I want you guys, everybody, please, take a moment, wrap your head around as part of every aspect of who we are. Every aspect of who we are. There's not one part that it's not. It's just that's what it is. So when I say that it's going to be a part of your bones or a part of this system, it is a part of that in mass. Like, that's what's controlling it. That's what helps rebuild collagen, your ECS. People are like, oh, you know, hyaluronic acid.
50:32Dani Fontaine:Well, your CB1 controls your hyaluronic acid fluctuation. So let's talk about that. You tell me what manages your hyaluronic acid. Well, it's your CB1s, period. And if those are not in balance, you do not have the right ability to be able to be fluid. Because you have stagnations along the way. You have disruptions along the way. And when you were talking about trillions, shit. I mean, we were like, whoa, mass, you know?
50:59Darin Olien:It's almost like the way we're approaching both health care and even the natural health world, it's almost archaic in a sense. We're dumping this. I mean, I think of, you know, like I like pine pollen as well, but this is a little different. I take in pine pollen, but also you're talking terpenes. So there's all these subtle things that we're not acknowledging, and so we're just looking at it as a car mechanics, like pull the bolt off and all of this stuff, And that's where this stuff is. But in you working with people, when you acknowledge this system, you do get almost fast results as well. Oh, way, way faster?
51:56Darin Olien:Yeah.
51:57Dani Fontaine:Like cancer people that I work with that come to me stage fours. So the thing with me in my practice is all 17 years, I've gotten people that are coming to me after this system. after the medical system like I'm their last hope you know because it's such a huge thing out there that you know if you if you are aware cannabis can save lives this is a true fact this is this is factual and and I have I have hundreds to thousands of cases to prove this you know it's not just an assumption for me it's like oh no let's bring one of my patients on let's let's talk to them you know let's see how long they've been using this plant I work with this gentleman that we've helped keep alive he has a disease a genetic mutation called dysphosis okay he has a split in the middle of his face is two faces brain is all you know modulated all differently and non-verbal doesn't walk doesn't talk nothing okay but his mother takes care of him he used to have 500 seizures a day 500 seizures a day constantly constantly throughout the day.
53:10Dani Fontaine:Some would be tonic-clonics, some would be just light flutters, but constantly. I met him when he was five years old. He just turned 21, and we've kept him alive this whole time because of cannabis, and it's mainly because of how it interacts with his DNA. So like he's a case that needs a higher dose of THC. Why? Because his genetics call for it. I would not normally say a high dose THC is good for anybody, honestly. I mean, it's the one thing that can throw off our neuro processing better than any compound out there, in my opinion. I mean, way better than any other psychedelic. This one will affect you in such a way that we have to be careful with it because it's so subtle.
53:59Dani Fontaine:Like, it's not like taking ayahuasca. It's not like taking a heavy dose of mushrooms. It's not like taking any of these things. It's like the way that THC works with us is it's a part of who we are. And based on the DNA, it depends on if you need more of it in you or not. And if you don't, or if you take it and you don't need it, it's going to throw you into this excitatory processing of basically turning you into a psychosis or manic state. you know, THC versus someone that needs to stay alive, it's going to work on the receptor system that is going to modulate his heart better. It's going to modulate his respiratory system better.
54:43Dani Fontaine:You know, it's how it works on a DNA level is fascinating, actually. So, you know, from cancer to crazy genetic mutations, it helps stabilize, you know, autoimmune issues, everything that you could imagine. Epilepsy, it helps bring the person back into balance, but we have to measure it based on their DNA.
55:06Darin Olien:Okay, everybody, are you ready to upgrade your operating system? I know I am. I'm always game to do that. Not just physically, but mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. 56:39Dani Fontaine:Like we have to measure based on their field. That's why I can measure a field, an endocannabinoid system from a biofield brainwave and DNA because I can understand it from all levels of like what is happening to the receptors.
56:54Darin Olien:Yeah, because you have some crazy technology that can show many of these subtle things. And so, again, you're looking at a field with accuracy to understand.
57:09Dani Fontaine:And each person is different. Yeah.
57:11Darin Olien:So like someone who wakes up and smokes cannabis all day. Oh. That could be. We could talk about that. Yeah. That's not good. Yeah, so clearly, unless there's a very specific person, that seems to be an overexpression of something.
57:28Dani Fontaine:Oh, you're over, yeah, well, so you're consuming too much THC, which is suppressing your own anandamide. And then when you stack THC on a fat cell, okay, because we have to digest it. The thing is with molecules, when we consume it, we have to be able to digest it. Otherwise, we don't properly uptake it or pass it through. They just stack. So when we consume THC and it just starts stacking on the fat cells, it's not good because one day it's going to hit that person in a way where it immunomodulates or immunosuppresses their system, their body system, into a way of they cannot recover when they are sick.
58:08Right.
58:09Dani Fontaine:So I'll take someone that I work with. Very ill with mold. Is a heavy smoker. does not want to give up smoking she will never get better with mold because yeah because thc is immunosuppressing her whole body system because it's not able to produce anandamide on the right endogenous levels for us to be able to affect from the inside so we're ultimately even though it feels good in the moment and it may take pain away in the moment long-term, cellularly, we're just stacking. And we're just like one day waiting for the catastrophic event to hit us. And then one day we just get hit with an illness, and then we don't have that endogenous anandamide power in order for us to start being like, okay, we've got to snap back into balance, body.
59:00Dani Fontaine:Let's go.
59:01Darin Olien:Yeah, supporting the body in a way that it can come back online. Totally. Rather than being dependent in that acute situation, which is so many things that people can do to override a healing system because they want to be out of whatever. And then you can talk about why are they doing that trauma or whatever thing they're trying to avoid, actually.
59:31Dani Fontaine:Yeah. And if you think like the gut has a, you know, the mitochondria is doing work, Like, listen, the ECS gets overwhelmed because of all of the sensory input. So this is the first system that goes down, and then all the other systems go down because it's being such heavily modulated with all this fake inputs, ultimately. We don't know how to balance it. Our cells get overwhelmed. They're like, what are you doing to me, human? Right. I have to stack this in places I don't even know where it's going.
1:00:01Darin Olien:It's like the example of soil. You keep throwing seeds into poor soil. It looks genetically okay, but it's not.
1:00:11Dani Fontaine:Where's the root base? Where's the taps? We need to, yes, the soil is such an important thing. The thing with cannabis and the reason why this plant works so well with us and the planet is because, again, it's a homeostasis plant. It's the homeostasis plant for the planet and for the people because it balances us on an energetic and physical level the way that it does on the planet on its energetic and physical level, but also within the soils and within the skies because it's balancing not only the phyter remediation of the soils, but it's helping carbons to crush the air. So it's absorbing carbons.
1:00:48Dani Fontaine:It's phyter remediating. It's taking the two and balancing what needs to be and storing it for us humans to go and work with, like the right way. And if we did it the right way, we'd all be in a little bit better shape, you know, especially on a large monocrop scale for the soil specifically. If we just did rotation cropping and just put it in once every year, once every two years even, we would be able to see soils come back to life. I did a study with NYU on soil with fiber remediation and carbon sequestration. Three years we took a sick, sick soil from being extremely, you know, conventional to an organic state.
1:01:27Dani Fontaine:Three years.
1:01:28Darin Olien:Using?
1:01:29Dani Fontaine:Hemp.
1:01:30Darin Olien:Yeah.
1:01:30Dani Fontaine:Three years. Yeah. Like, wait, I'm just, like, people are out here talking about, we'll never, we're on a time frame. If we use the right plants. Yes. In the right way, and we start looking at the alternatives that they've actually suppressed and made us all afraid of, let's go after those ones. Yeah. Mushrooms, cannabis, let's go.
1:01:49Darin Olien:Yeah.
1:01:49Dani Fontaine:Like, mushrooms and cannabis together are the reason why our soils are the best thing ever. Mm-hmm. We put those two together. That's why, again, it helps mama. It helps the humans too and all the beings with the spine. We were talking about the olfactory system. Animals have such a strong olfactory system. This is one of the reasons why the ECS is stronger in them than it is in us. They have more receptors than we actually do due to certain sensory factors. They live off smell and sound. Us, we got our eyes much stronger than they do. So it's like certain things, we have to have a bulk or amount of receptors in our processing, in our neural processing, versus theirs.
1:02:31Dani Fontaine:So we all digest the information and we take it in properly and we'd be the best type of makeup that we are.
1:02:38Darin Olien:Right.
1:02:38Dani Fontaine:You know?
1:02:39Darin Olien:Yeah, you know, there's so many different aspects of this thing that's fascinating, right?
1:02:45Dani Fontaine:It's so fascinating.
1:02:46Darin Olien:Because I think, you know, because I remember I mentioned this to you in the car, but I was always fascinated with what were some of the first plants that showed up with healing, like written down in the ethnobotanil books. And I think it was like 60 ,000 years. And it was hemp and ginkgo biloba. And there's another third. I don't remember which one that was. But without a doubt, hemp was there. And they used it in all of these ways, right? Because they already knew. And it's so regenerative and so many different, and we can talk about it because it fascinates me there, and the sustainable, regenerative, but also building materials.
1:03:35Darin Olien:Totally. So cool. Yeah, so that to me is like, if you're trying to grok why the hell this hasn't or been stuffed, we have historical data to show how much we used it and for many different reasons from paper to building materials to regenerative soil practices. Right?
1:04:06Dani Fontaine:To balancing the whole human body.
1:04:08Darin Olien:Yeah, and then this whole other health side. of it when done correctly that you go well let's just touch on a little bit like from your perspective just as much grounded information pun intended as you can as to why that was kind of completely pushed aside because it was demonized it was because for so long even just a few years ago ultimately. Hemp was also in the same category so you couldn't grow that and then Canada started growing so much of it okay legally. So funny. And so it's just like right over here it was all demonized into one category but yet it's one of the longest standing use models of a plant.
1:04:59Dani Fontaine:Yeah. It's power moves.
1:05:01Darin Olien:Yeah. So is it because it had so many positive benefits, the lack of control around it, is it falls into that damn category again where?
1:05:14Dani Fontaine:It does.
1:05:14Darin Olien:Certainly, again.
1:05:15Dani Fontaine:But stronger than any other tool that we've had, in my opinion, because it's the one that no one really knows about. I mean, there's other things that we know. Okay, yeah, they've taken it from us. No one knows about this. The ECS is something that, and the information about the plethora of byproducts that we can create off of this crop is 50 ,000 uses. It's mind-boggling that we, at one time, this is what our societies thrived off of. This was our community builders. This is what they took from Europe to the Americas in barrels to restart fields over here to ship back fibers over there. This is the reason why, you know, all the things are, this is why we don't have hemp diesel fuel.
1:06:10Dani Fontaine:Oh, it's because they took them out. You know, they did all the things that they needed to do. Why do we have racism? Oh, it's because they put it against black and white people. Oh, it's because, what? What? Wait, how did that happen? You know, and people just believed it. Like, you really think this is, and this is how they did it so good is because they knew THC is going to definitely neurologically make certain people crazy. They knew it because they had the science to back it already. They knew that THC is the one thing that they needed to push out there. If they did it with CBD, nobody's going to care.
1:06:44Dani Fontaine:THC, people are going to feel loved. They're going to feel excited and or they're going to feel fucking crazy. Excuse me for my friend.
1:06:49Darin Olien:Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
1:06:51Dani Fontaine:But that's just how it's going to happen because that's how it stacks in the body. And they just knew it. So how do we cause division? Oh, well, we mess with their brains. Easy, like the easiest thing ever, but from a very subtle point where they actually have no clue. So let's do it. You know, and that's basically how they got us was suppressing not only the plant, but the system at the same time. Yeah. At the same time. It's not the most medicine in pharma before they changed the script was cannabis medicines.
1:07:23Darin Olien:Right.
1:07:24Dani Fontaine:Go look on the shelves. I mean, it's proof. It's common. Like there's actually photos out there that like you go into a pharmacy, 90 % of that was cannabis.
1:07:32Darin Olien:Yeah.
1:07:33Dani Fontaine:Then you have all these other little type of extracts, black cumin, all these other really great ones, turmeric, ginger, but the main one, cannabis. Why? Because cannabis holds and harnesses every terpene on the planet with DNA and all cannabinoids. That for us is huge. It's like working with all plants in one. All plants in one. It's like pining. You could go work with pine or you could just work with cannabis and the whole strain that has it in a way more potent amount than pine does. So we have to understand the dynamics of this plant of like how it actually has. yeah it's just so much more than what they've ever told us well it's been it's been minimized into
1:08:16Darin Olien:this problem yeah and then that problem lumped it all together and then conveniently totally narrative well they fueled it yeah yeah they fueled it i mean the you know for me when i was like in the early 2000s when i was looking into formulation and i was looking at into to amino acid profiles hemp was incredible but there was no there was no way at that time to scale yeah right and then and then the other fascinating thing was the perfect uh omega profile omega three six and nine for the human body and and i was like hope like it's perfect again yeah it is it literally was created for that and the only other one that was equal to that was this this like i mentioned before uh it's called sasha inchi and from the amazon yeah but it also was completely different in terms of what else you could do with it but these are my tiny little indicators of of seeing it from over here and i too like listen i was never drug person yeah um and other than doing ayahuasca 25 years ago and then i had some issues with that and so i kind of took you know all cannabis and i i shot that you for one uh did it throw you for one i'm trying i'm wondering what it did to your brain the the the ayahuasca was it was a very challenging situation what about post i it took me i mean it's a long story but when i i'm just so interested in my brain it's like what happened to it no so so ayahuasca fine the trip was fine yeah uh and then i did it again different intention different scenario didn't go well did it another time still didn't go well but what happened after the ayahuasca a molecule was out of my body.
1:10:25Darin Olien:Something cracked, broke. And the best I can say is I wasn't being, I wasn't able to function. I was almost felt like catatonic. Like you could look at me and not be aware of anything and go, what's wrong with that guy? So I was walking around in Boulder for a month. So something, and some people, others said energetically, my aura something yeah like but at the same time i was seeing a lot of stuff so there was a very incredible wow like things i was seeing and occurring in real time and so can i say just
1:11:05Dani Fontaine:what that was happening just so people that take ayahuasca know what's happening yeah yeah so your 5-HT receptors stay expressed. So there's a chain of them. And basically, certain plant medicines are potencies, but they all play with this one receptor system. And certain makeup, other molecules play with other receptors too. But that one receptor system was so expressed that it was, yeah, it was tapping you into another field because you had so many of them active.
1:11:37Darin Olien:I couldn't.
1:11:38Dani Fontaine:It was like by the trillions, it was like by the full prefrontal lobe. That's where they were all active, right in the 5-HT receptor system, just like woed out. So when people go through these crazy psychedelic experiences, they need to know that what's happening is they have receptor systems that are overexpressed. There is a way to tune that back in in the moment so that you're not going through a crazy trip for eight hours. It's how you work with it. But that's, I just was so interesting that that's what happened to your brain. And the thing is that the trip was the trip.
1:12:15Darin Olien:Yeah, but it was after. It was the after that just kept these things.
1:12:20Dani Fontaine:And the only way, I can't explain it chemically,
1:12:24Darin Olien:but I was just, it was a wild, I could see, like it was, dimension was open.
1:12:32Dani Fontaine:Yeah, well, when you're chemically processing in a loop and that expression has stayed open, you're looping that process. You have no ability to tune it back in.
1:12:40Darin Olien:You can't turn it off.
1:12:41Dani Fontaine:Yeah. So when you were expressed. I'd have to go to sleep. I just wanted to go to sleep. It was too much. Yeah. So like when you were overexpressed post, it was because it was a chemical process that was looping and staying in an expressed state.
1:12:52Darin Olien:So back to THC. So I never even smoked. Before I did ayahuasca, never smoked marijuana in my life. Okay. Right? So then I was like, what is up with this shit? That's probably not a good combination. No, well, I had, quote unquote, gotten back to myself at that point.
1:13:09Dani Fontaine:Good, good, good.
1:13:11Darin Olien:But also when I started doing it, it started opening what I would perceive as opening up a door that I didn't want to open. Yep. And I would start to feel it. And I'm like, I'm not doing that shit.
1:13:22Dani Fontaine:Yep.
1:13:22Darin Olien:So I shut it down. Yes. I completely shut it down. I like in my mind, I was like, I want nothing to do with anything that's going to potentially put me back to that. So my education, my curiosity was stopped, which is why this for me is kind of fun and fascinating because it's like it's a whole nother look at a system that I wasn't really aware of.
1:13:50Dani Fontaine:Yeah. But let's talk about so people have some kind of takeaways because there's so much here that, you know, maybe we'll do a whole master class and how do people, you know, dial in totally and walk away with some
1:14:07Darin Olien:really good opportunities to not only learn, but apply. Yes.
1:14:13Dani Fontaine:Because everything is applicable. That's the best thing about this is, yes, you can come see me, but, like, really, all I do is make a protocol for you. You know, like, I just tell you what to go do to you.
1:14:23Darin Olien:I guess what are some, like, top three things that people can – because exercise turns on your endocannabinoid system, right?
1:14:31Dani Fontaine:Well, high states of it. So you have to hit your highest peak. You've got to push it. Yeah, you have to push a peak in order to produce the molecule. But what we're doing is we're producing the molecule and the enzyme at the same time for us to be able to feel it. If we don't produce the molecule and enzyme at the same time, like the enantamide and its direct enzyme, which is FAAH, then we don't, it doesn't digest properly. So in those states of like pure excitement, of ecstasy, of bliss, of working out, of sex, of awakening, whatever it is, you are turning both of them on and you're processing both of them so like you're feeling it you know so you've hit a level hit a level of like yes i can do this physically right and that's what you want to focus on is hitting those states and ultimately with the ecs is you build you basically have to build on it it's it's so out of tune you need to slowly attune it it's not like hopping in a cold plunge that's going to actually throw you into an excess state most people especially women that go in cold plunge, they're shocking their ECS and their hormones in a place where it's like, oh, my gosh.
1:15:40Dani Fontaine:So the ECS, it receives it, and it tells the hormones, go chaos. That's literally what it does. You know, versus we need to be warm. I mean, in traditional Chinese medicine, our Vedic, like, we've got to be warm.
1:15:51Darin Olien:Thank you. I did a solo podcast on this going the two ancient healing systems that we know of ever, never, ever, ever subscribe to or prescribe any cold application of any kind. No, no. Right? So I'm like, what? So there's something there, and you're saying through the ECS system, it's just too expressed.
1:16:18Dani Fontaine:So it's too expressed. So now it depends on the person because there could be people that are in need. they are too red okay so we want to do blue colors we're gonna play with colors later so they're too inflamed the red is inflammatory it's heated so you can feel it you can see it it's owie it's ooh ouch you know it builds blue we want to bring in that blue tone we want to introduce blue gentle like modulation even breath breath is like a blue color you know so oxygen that's what we want to think versus hydrogen you know that's that's kind of like that blue red aspect you know and um sorry
1:16:58Darin Olien:what what are some what are some yeah so i get so turned on certain things i'm sorry but again it's not a i want to be clear too that it's not in all applications that maybe cold plunge is good for some people it is yes and men run probably more hot yeah so let's just give some takeaways ways for people so like they're curious what are some breathing techniques movement patterns maybe some meditation like foods yes I think we touched on some of them but let's just lay out like maybe three or four things people can do to help the balance of wherever they're at cool so we'll do three of the senses
1:17:42Dani Fontaine:we'll go light so light you want to go out in the right time of the day get outside yes get literally get outside and morning evening yes morning so for women it's like 6 30 to 8 30 you know for men basically same time i'm a woman so i just tune in more to that um but it's it's morning sunrise so you need to see the right type of uv in the morning in order for us and our our receptors to be able to receive the right light otherwise if it's receiving a strong strong potent amount of natural light without being introduced to the other spectrums it's going to shock the system that's how we start causing inflammation ultimately with light you know is not receiving the right types of light at the right time so get the early morning light yes and then the evening the sunset so those are the two that's how our brain and the suprachiasmatic nucleus is able to digest that proper information is going the right light the other one would be proper movement so you really want to be able to move your lower spine yes movement up here is great but lower spine is really key because it's where a lot of our receptors are sitting without um ever being expressed or ever being modulated properly because we these days we sit so much you know so like moving lower waist moving shaking dancing yoga twisting you know qigong all the things that are like movement i mean i love all the you know traditional chinese ones that do all of this waist bending and movement of that because it's so good for just receptor
1:19:15Darin Olien:modulation something i i do like a five minute routine every morning yes i mean five minutes
1:19:21Dani Fontaine:super super simple um another one is sound so sound is like very unique if people can get in tune with what makes it and like really listen not just listen to what's popular but like listen to certain frequency notes, certain type of really mellow type, you know, instrumental music. Yeah. Just something that like can attune your tones, not with words, just tones. That's what, and then what feels good to you, because it could feel different to someone else. Do that and do that in the morning and do that in the evening and start attuning yourself to the day so that when you're out there, you've already received good information.
1:20:03Dani Fontaine:That means that you're not going out in chaos.
1:20:05Darin Olien:You're building your resiliency, your balance.
1:20:09Dani Fontaine:Yeah. So like the basic structures, breath, do the right breath work. I mean, most people, four, seven, eight is a wonderful diaphragmatic breath work. You know, four in, hold deeply for seven, out for eight. If you can do seven, seven, seven.
1:20:23Darin Olien:You hold on the bottom too? Yeah. Yeah.
1:20:25Dani Fontaine:Yeah. So you want to hold because receptors. So this whole gut brain access communication system is embedded with receptors. Yeah. Because we have to communicate the information from here to here and here to here, even though here is the most important. But we have some.
1:20:42Darin Olien:Yeah, so a nice little technique. Just put your hands on your lower stomach and just push, or not push, but feel the up and down. Feel the, yeah. Activate deeper.
1:20:51Dani Fontaine:And you can also pump your diaphragm right here to get extra, you know? Yeah. So those are three really basic things. Foods, really high, rich in DHA. You know, stuff that's really rich, omega-based, that has high terpene expression. So anything colorful and really smelly.
1:21:09Darin Olien:Yeah, going back to the colorful rainbow, you know. Yeah. Yeah. And whole, fresh foods.
1:21:15Dani Fontaine:So we've been talking about this system for, like, ever. Right. Like, everybody talks about it. And this is what's wild is, like, the geniuses, and I know that there are geniuses out there, they're talking about it. they're not putting the keys. They're not locking it in our system for people to be able to be... We're not talking about the system,
1:21:38Darin Olien:but we know the benefits of it. We know the nature. We talk about it in terms of the colors, the polyphenols and all of this stuff, but we're not talking about it around the system that's holding that or expressing that or coming through and to us.
1:21:58Dani Fontaine:And signaling us.
1:22:00Darin Olien:That's the wild.
1:22:01Dani Fontaine:It's keeping us in communication back to source. It keeps us in communication to ourselves and into other people. It's the same thing that it does with everything that it's in. It's our main signaling, modulating communication system.
1:22:16Darin Olien:Yeah. There's nothing more to it. With the light, with the earth, with each other.
1:22:21Dani Fontaine:With each other. With every aspect of who we are. And it's so, yeah, go do your research. you know is what I would say I would say just go do your research and if you have questions like ask you know maybe I'm totally yeah I love answering good questions that people are like well especially when it comes to yeah just wanting to find a balance and and being told a certain thing that's really not for them I could be I get patients all the time they come to me and they're like oh my doctor told me I'm gonna die in four months I'm like you're not dying like there's no way you're not gonna die you know like it they on rare cases like sit literally six people out of the 7 ,000 that I've worked with sit and it's just their time six out of 7 ,000 like there's no way you know you tell me what how does this work you know I feel like it's like the missing link to us to our evolution to us being able to actually come together because it's our communication to each other once we're good with ourselves we're actually good with others yeah so imagine
1:23:30Darin Olien:that imagine that imagine that if people are working on these because it's like it's it's high time we work on these subtle and and i'm and i don't mean subtle from the impact i mean subtle from the sense that you're not visual yeah you're not visually seeing you're not It's like, but we discovered a new arm. It's that obvious now that you're starting to talk about this thing and like, how is it that we are not in 2025? We're just now, and that's the humility and the unbelievable nature. It's just like, wow, we're still discovering and the arrogance. And that's the thing, like you said. And maybe we'll highlight some of your favorite studies and we'll put links and stuff and links to you.
1:24:21Darin Olien:But the arrogance we take is just astonishing to me. Right. And as society, as we think we know. And as soon as you come across someone who thinks they know and are not at least have the vocabulary of this, this is what seems to be happening. that's the that's the vocabulary that's showing that that person is still open and learning and that's where we need to kind of come from yeah because that that's going to give us the
1:24:55Dani Fontaine:solutions that are already here yeah that we need totally and and as within so without yeah instead of fix my world and all of you and my relationships if you all operate right totally correct i'm
1:25:15Darin Olien:gonna be fine that's totally that's the algorithmic problem of the world oh that's the truth right yeah yeah it's wild and you're going the wrong way you know please don't go like Like it literally, I mean, not to use Christ as an example, but it's literal the kingdoms inside.
1:25:41Dani Fontaine:Period.
1:25:42Darin Olien:And that's it. And the more we understand the subtle, because it's exciting. I'm excited.
1:25:48Dani Fontaine:Yeah, me too.
1:25:49Darin Olien:Because these subtle things.
1:25:51Dani Fontaine:They're so fun.
1:25:51Darin Olien:You're basically talking about this endocannabinoid system, the ECS, as this conduit between us and spirit. And all things. And nature. And it's communicating. It's amazing.
1:26:09Dani Fontaine:I mean, it really is phenomenal when we can understand that there's so much left to really dig into. and it's so unique upon each person. So that's where it comes really fun. It's like you'll really never know until you know. Right, exactly. Like I've practiced on thousands of people, but I really discovered it deeper when I worked with myself on it, you know, and understanding what things work well for me, my sensory inputs, what plants. Then I was like, oh, because I consider myself a pretty healthy person. I work with only really sick people. So like, why would I ever tend to myself over them type thing, you know?
1:26:53Dani Fontaine:And then I realized, I was like, well, I am receiving all of them. So I'm receiving their energy. I'm receiving it and I'm transmuting it back, you know? So I have to be a good receiver. I have to be a good enzyme in order to digest all the things in front of me, in order to put it back out into the world in a balanced manner so people can actually do something with it, you know?
1:27:15Darin Olien:And what's happening is people anger and then they spit anger and the pendulum just goes back and forth. And it's just a it's a cartoon. It is.
1:27:24Dani Fontaine:It is.
1:27:25Darin Olien:You just look around going. It's a cartoon.
1:27:27Dani Fontaine:It's a cartoon.
1:27:28Darin Olien:And it's it's it's it's.
1:27:29Dani Fontaine:But it's a fun cartoon. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it's like interesting. It's it's.
1:27:33Darin Olien:Well, when you understand the you understand the game, then you're going, I don't need to be the pendulum swing of my emotional.
1:27:41Dani Fontaine:No.
1:27:42Darin Olien:victimization that will come by way of just getting bounced around
1:27:48Dani Fontaine:by someone else's
1:27:50Darin Olien:thoughts, feelings, or emotions, or I need them to improve before I will. It doesn't work that way. You were always the one
1:28:00Dani Fontaine:is what I tell my clients. You were always the one. It was no one else other than you, and so go be you. Go do you.
1:28:08Darin Olien:That's it. Thanks for blasting the crowd with something completely necessary and old.
1:28:20Dani Fontaine:Yeah, old, new, necessary. Yeah. Thank you. No, thank you so much. I appreciate it. Yeah. Yeah, I hope that we all learn more ECS goodness, guys.
1:28:32Darin Olien:ECS action. We good? I was trying to keep up. I think we could have gone for four hours. Where are we?
1:28:41Dani Fontaine:What were we at?
1:28:43Darin Olien:You guys were at an hour and 15 minutes. We have literally less than five minutes before our session's over. Yeah. Cool. Perfect.

In this mind-expanding episode, Darin sits down with Dani Fontaine — researcher, practitioner, and expert on the human body's forgotten communication system: the endocannabinoid system. They unravel how this network regulates everything from mood and sleep to pain and consciousness — and why it was deliberately scrubbed from mainstream medical education.
Dani reveals how cannabinoids, light, sound, and nature all communicate with our body's receptor fields — shaping the way we feel, heal, and perceive the world. Together they explore the profound spiritual and scientific implications of this hidden system, and how it connects us back to balance, nature, and truth.

Key Takeaway
"Your endocannabinoid system isn't just a biology lesson — it's a bridge between your body and the universe. When you feed it light, breath, and truth, you remember what balance actually feels like."
