Together, we'll ignite possibilities, inspire change, and build sovereignty, creating a roadmap towards a super life for you and for all. Get ready to start living your super life.

0:32Darin Olien:I'd like to take a quick break from this episode to thank our sponsor, Fatty15. That's right. I want to talk about something that isn't talked about enough, keeping our cells healthy. Here's what I'm doing now to prioritize cellular health, supplementing with this new exciting research, and it's called Fatty15. Fatty 15 has three times more cellular benefit than omega-3s or fish oil. This is dietary odd chain saturated fatty acids, OCFAs. There are present trace levels in dietary fat, some fish, and plants. Higher circulating concentrations of this OCFS. we realize through the research that higher circulating concentrations of this is extremely good for us.

1:28Darin Olien:It is called pentadonic chaotic acid or C15. Omega-3 fish oils and algae oils often go bad before they're even in the bottle. That's right. They're susceptible to oxygen and sunlight and the supplements can't even help to improve our health usually. But fatty 15 or C15 naturally protects against damaging oxidation both in the bottle and in your body. If you want to get a little more science-y about it, studies show that C15 works by strengthening our cells, improving our mitochondria function, and protecting us against damage from free radicals on a very deep level. The result? Better long-term metabolic liver and heart health functioning.

2:19Darin Olien:It ends up many of us are massively deficient in C15, which results in weaker and weaker cells that makes us have less energy and we quit working earlier. We're seeking to find that energy. Where is it? All of this makes us age faster and faster, and the science around this is so fascinating. We sleep poorly, we feel sluggish, and we're all looking to feel better and have more energy. Does it sound familiar? Fatty 15 is science-backed, award-winning, vegan-friendly, and pure C15 supplement. That's it. By replenishing ourselves with this newly discovered C15, the nutrient of fatty 15 effectively repairs our cells and restores our long-term health.

3:16Darin Olien:That's when you have to celebrate science. When science discovered something sitting there all along. After 90 years of discovering essential fatty acids like omega-3, 6, and 9, we now have discovered this incredible odd chain saturated fat C15. Fatty15 is on a mission to replenish your C15 levels and restore your long-term health. And I'm with them in that. You can get an additional 15 % off your 90-day subscription starter kit by going to Fatty15, F-A-T-T-Y-1-5.com slash Darren, D-A-R-I-N, or use the code Darren, D-A-R-I-N, at checkout. 4:13Darin Olien:the myth, the man, the legend. Let's see.

4:22Darin Olien:You got... Oh.

4:42Darin Olien:So, there he is.

4:43Hagen Thiers:Now it should be good.

4:45Darin Olien:Yeah, I'm good. Can you hear me? I don't hear you, but I think... Check, check, check. Right? Check. Can you hear me? So. It says we're recording.

5:08Hagen Thiers:Can you hear me well? I cannot hear you. Are you saying something? yeah i'm talking blah blah blah i don't hear anything yet i don't hear anything yet

5:33Darin Olien:check check check one two three

5:39Darin Olien:unplug your headset and see if it's check check your headset

5:45Hagen Thiers:thank you all right can you hear me now no i hear you okay that's weird okay yeah you know

5:55Darin Olien:because if you put an external you got to go to um um i don't know on your end there's an audio

6:06Hagen Thiers:just wanted to give you the best audio quality here let me try one more time yeah my

6:13Darin Olien:headphones quit anyway so there's an audio session put this here output is here go under so go under speaker go under speaker can you hear me I mean, uh, no, no. So on the bottom of the screen, if you go over the volume control, the speaker, it's called speaker. Yeah. You should be able, there's a default. So if you're using that, you probably need to switch. Okay.

6:51Hagen Thiers:Try that. Let's try it one more time. That is helping. Okay. Okay. Is there something coming? no you have to go over it well but i don't hear you that's weird and in my settings everything is good it's saying that it should be on you but it's not that's weird nah that's weird i don't know

7:19Darin Olien:so if you if you go with your browser if you go over toggle over the speaker on the bottom of the screen. It says speaker. Do you see that? Yeah, it was switching.

7:32Hagen Thiers:It was switching to the headphones, but I still didn't hear you. That was the problem.

7:38Darin Olien:Well, we're good because my headphones, they'll be able to clean it up. It'll be fine. Yeah? Yeah. All right. I've got echo cancellation on the other side, so... We should be good to go. Okay.

7:57Hagen Thiers:so I can give this one to try if this is any better just once should be better I have backups here as a as a good German I have backup or so let's see here external okay I don't know

8:25Hagen Thiers:all you're coming through at least that's good one two i still can't hear you that's weird so it's not a problem with the headphones it's a problem with uh something else okay that's weird

8:39Darin Olien:you aren't speaker how about the microphone go go over the go over the microphone can you hear me

8:52Hagen Thiers:okay that is weird now as soon as i plug something in there is no sound coming through that's weird as crazy so we have to stick to the old microphone here oh yeah it's all right we'll make it happen good okay ready ready to go just see yes everything switched that's good all good the recording is recording is on it is yes sir well it's good to be back and it's good to see you yeah welcome to yeah welcome to super life again uh hagen round two uh with a transformed hagen we have in front of us so we got

9:43Darin Olien:right so yeah man so like the last we talked just so the audience we talked a lot about emfs with your with your other company um with uh emf remediations waveguard and stuff which i'm still using obviously i still travel with i still love um but you sold most of that you're working in other spaces hyperbaric oxygen but the big elephant in the room is you transformed yourself man you lost a ton of weight you started exercising like your life has completely changed how did that how like tell us that tell and this is a perfect timing dude because this is new year's Everyone wants to look better, right?

10:38Darin Olien:That's right. Yeah. What was that like for you? How did you do that?

10:42Hagen Thiers:Where to start? So, you know, like I was in WaveGuard, like you said, and I had the company there. And then we got this award, you know, like for the best invention of Europe 2022. And that kind of set a whole pathway in motion. You know, I was always speaking on the health summits and, you know, on the biohacking congresses, on health summits and on all of those things and you know then all of this recognition came in like 2023 and it started that you know my colleagues they were really my speaker colleagues and you know the experts they were like really then paying attention to me more and saying like okay Agen you have an amazing product you know we love your product we we promote your product we use your product and you know so much about health but one question like why do you still have over 65 kilos of overweight you know like that was like what is that in pounds i think like 160 70 80 pounds something like that overweight right and they were like you know they started to give me some you know uh serious questions and i was like i don't know i'm trying you know i exercise i eat healthy i know all the right stuff you know from ivs from exercise from eating healthy and i thought i had it figured out but i was still stuck i was still stuck and i didn't know what so the first thing what happened is they were like this has got to stop we are the experts here like you do your things on the biophysics but now you know let us take us under your wing you know let's you know come here and we'll figure this out and so there were a couple of experts you know which were taking me under their wing which i was so you know grateful for and i am still really grateful to them and they said like okay it started by you know we gotta do like a three month assessment basically so I shared every food which I eat every movement which I make over the health trackers which I shared with them you know I literally sent the pictures in the whatsapp groups of what do I drink what I eat and I had a personal trainer which was coaching me four times a week so he had every pound measured of what I exercise that I exercise right that I go to failure and still they thought okay we're gonna figure this out and after three months of doing that like rigorously following everything I lost eight pounds what the heck is going on so a few of them game up obviously and said like oh you're too hard to crack for us and some of the other ones they got really intrigued and said okay something is going on under the radar which we have no clue yet what it is because we even did the lab works right so um they were now following a few steps which then finally hit to to the point of well getting actually to this result um one of the first ones was metabolism that we found out and the second but more important one was actually inflammation gut inflammation and the chronic stressed gut so those two points were literally the and then in the end making the big differences i would say to to address so where to start was obviously um maybe we start with a metabolism there so this one is something where my uh delta was off the charts so it was you can measure your metabolism and you can get this crazy google calculations and estimations on what you think you consume so you know you're giving your data of how old are you how tall are you how you know what is your activity level and it tells you okay this is what you you know supposed to be consuming as energy and if you do less than that then you you know, you should lose weight, right?

14:38Hagen Thiers:Basic biophysics and basic burning energy. Well, but the reality was for me very different because when you actually measure it and don't just estimate it, it was found out that I had like a 1500 kilocalorie difference in that. The delta was crazy. And this is something I think, especially for many people which have been going through long diets and through, you know, trying to lose weight and doing excessive cardio and then supplying the body in a diet too little energy the body is slowing down its metabolism and so for me since especially i had this you know time of starvation in my in my earlier teenagehood when i was you know doing extreme cardio like 2 000 kilometers snowshoe hiking in the wilderness with really little access to food like no food access for six weeks just like something which i carried with me this literally like burned my my all my muscles and you know taught my basically my mitochondria to be very efficient and have a very slow metabolism which is great for anti-aging you know i'm gonna still look uh hopefully uh young and beautiful in 10 years but um but it's definitely not helpful in regarding to weight loss so because basically for me it was the case that i just had to look at the cookie and would already

16:00Darin Olien:gain weight right so and then so so so just to set that up that i mean if people don't know that like you you lived in a very um in finland in the forest by yourself forging you were completely off the grid forging your own food you were in extreme situations so your body your whole metabolism adapted to that. And then when you came into the modern world, your set point of where your body was, the efficiency of it, what it from a survival standpoint was kind of at a certain level. And so therefore, when you add up, when you were exposed to an abundance of calories, your body was still in this preservation mode.

16:51Darin Olien:Is that kind of correct?

16:53Hagen Thiers:That's correct, but that doesn't mean that you need such a crazy path like me to ruin your metabolism and to burn it, to get it so low. It's just a general form. If you are over a long period of time supplying your body less calories than what you're burning and you're actually having more cardio workouts, then your body is just going to slow your metabolism. So if you want to age slower, this is what you want to do. And if you're, you know, then are wondering why are you in this yo-yo effect, and you know, you might want to ramp up your metabolism. So for me, it was really underestimated how big that delta could have gotten because for me, it was such a, you know, extreme experience, obviously, and I was very young.

17:40Darin Olien:One of the biggest questions I get constantly is, Darren, where can I find the best non-toxic cookware. Listen, I don't mess around with things that go ultimately in my body and that includes what I cook with. That's why I swear by Our Place because from day one, they've been committed to making clean, healthy, non-toxic cookware and kitchenware. No sketchy coatings, no forever chemicals, just pure conscious design that are beautiful as well as highly functional. I've been using their titanium always pan for months now. It's the only pan I cook with and here's why. Pure titanium, non-toxic, PFAS free, extremely durable, metal utensils, high heat, dishwasher safe.

18:39Darin Olien:This thing can handle it all. All in one performance. The best stainless steel cast iron nonstick in a single pan. And here's the real kicker. Most nonstick pans, they're still loaded with PFAS, these forever chemicals that break down in your body and stay in your body and they accumulate over time. We just don't need that. They disrupt the gut microbiome, testosterone, dysregulation, metabolic issues, hormone imbalances, immune dysfunction, and chronic inflammation they contribute to. Think about it. Every time you cook, you could be introducing toxins into your body. And the simple act of switching to safe cookware eliminates that.

19:25Darin Olien:This is why it's the easiest, most powerful change you can make, certainly in your kitchen, for long-term health and the elimination of toxic exposure. So Our Place is having their biggest sale of the year. 35 % all site-wide products through January 12th. So head over to fromourplace.com forward slash Darren and see why over a million people have made the switch to Our Place Kitchenware. And with their 100-day risk-free trial, free returns, and free shipping, you can shop with confidence. So Our Place Holiday Sale is going on right now with no discount code necessary. So that had a bigger impact.

20:18Hagen Thiers:And so literally the delta of the difference between estimation of metabolism and the actual measured in the gas breath analysis was the biggest one ever recorded in Dubai. So it was pretty severe and I was having way less calorie consumption than my 10-year-old daughter was supposed to have. So it was very surprising in the first place. and that that was bitch basically for the metabolism point the first big aspect the second one which was for me taking more challenges and what was the harder one was the gut inflammation and chronically inflamed body system when you are inflamed and you're having an inflammation state in your body then And your body does not want to let you lose weight.

21:15Hagen Thiers:It doesn't want to let you let go of fat. Fat is not just something which we want to get rid of. It is something for the body as a protection layer. As something which the body sees as a necessity for multiple things. Not just as an energy reserve. Also as a storage place for toxins. And your fat cells. They are communicating with your brain. over the lab team hormone and signaling are we having enough fat are we having too little fat do we want to have more fat or are we okay to let go of some this is a this is not like a crazy you know story this is just what it is the body is literally communicating inside of the brain and it's just really smart and it's a perfect system and it's trying to protect itself so when you're having a big amount of overweight and you're hitting these barriers that you cannot anymore lose weight which was for me even through I did everything perfect so many times just a few kilos a few pounds like I mentioned after three months of doing everything perfectly with the best coaches it was still just what like four kilos eight pounds so and so therefore you know this is something which we got to understand you sometimes have to first heal your body and give it the right environment and heal it in order to lose weight right so then a lot of the focus was shifting to the gut so obviously the first ones was nothing anymore which is bad for gut health and which is anything like industrial food so i haven't really eaten any industrial food now in

22:58Darin Olien:one and a half years. So no ultra processed anything, just whole foods. Yeah.

23:05Hagen Thiers:So I was taking another step into that of a seriousness level. I did always already eat very healthy, but it was then I was really making it more rigorously that I said, like, okay, this is like a completely clean, self-made stuff, and if you want to have a craving, then you also make it yourself, you know. So that was was one of the first steps then going for, you know, eating more fibers, just not in terms of quantity, but more focusing on the varieties. So making like some super smoothies, you know, with different varieties of vegetables, of fibers, of salads, of all those to kind of have like a just a small shot glass of a smoothie a day where you really give your body like a microbiome to go again.

23:57Hagen Thiers:and then it was a crazy amount of probiotic food, you know, on kombucha, which I was like on half a gallon on a day for a long period of time, which I homemade myself, you know, eating more of those probiotic foods. And then also hyperbaric was a big part, which was addressing the next levels. because still even when all of that came together, it still didn't like ramp all the way down and start to finally hit together. So I moved in Dubai and I literally found a place where they had a hyperbaric chamber in the basement and along another good amount of longevity equipment and get all some bio planches like folk planches and things like that.

Read the full transcript

24:50Hagen Thiers:And so I started to go on a very long period of time for hyperbaric sessions. And I think I took it a bit further than anybody else because I did in the end like 17 ,000 minutes of hyperbaric.

25:06Darin Olien:So, hold on one second. I'm getting, I'm hearing a lot of something here. I also get it. We have a noise inside. Now it just went away.

25:22Hagen Thiers:No, it's still there.

25:25Darin Olien:It's still there. Now it's gone on my end.

25:29Hagen Thiers:Yeah, now it's gone. Wow, that was weird. That was strong. Shall I turn off the echo cancellation? Oh, no, it can't be changed while recording.

25:41Darin Olien:Okay, so... if it comes up again then i can maybe maybe do it but um yeah let's reverse back a minute i guess huh yeah so well yeah and this is very i want to touch base on a couple very important things that you you mentioned just so that we can make sure the audience completely understands so like on the one hand calories in calories out make sense on on one level right so if you eat too much, then there's storage that can happen. So everyone can make sense of that. But if you're starting from a place of a metabolic shift, and just again, you were in an extreme situation, there's nothing wrong with fasting, there's nothing wrong with some, you know, 10 to 20 % calorie deprivation that shows up in so much longevity support.

26:35Darin Olien:But you were in a severe calorie deprivation for a long period of time. So that's the major shift. And so it makes sense from an evolutionary standpoint that your body was like, hey, this is what it's going to be like for years. I'm shutting down in order to survive because the body only perceives that stress and then it adapts to it. And then the other important thing that you were saying is, yeah, that wasn't going to work if I had this underlying inflammatory stress response that was going on. And metabolically and digestively in the microbiome, everything was in this inflamed kind of fire state.

27:28Darin Olien:So in order for you to actually get your body to a receptive point of going back to eating good food and receiving it, your body couldn't receive it very well. So you had to put out the fire first of your metabolism and then kind of start from ground zero and then build from there.

27:54Hagen Thiers:Is that? Yeah, that's about right. And one thing which I just think is also really important to point out what you were saying about energy in, energy out, point of view. Obviously, this is the basic understanding and worldwide accepted. But one thing we shouldn't forget, yes, if you're eating more energy, you're taking in more energy than you consume, you're definitely going to lose weight. The problem is it doesn't 100 % translate the other way around. Because we all feel this if we are going on a fast or what is happening, we are tired and our body doesn't want us to move and our body is shutting us down.

28:34Hagen Thiers:You know, and our body is starting to say, hey, I need to limit the amount of energy which I'm spending. That's why you feel so sloppy and so energy less because you're not giving your body anything. And this is what happens, right? The body is trying to preserve the energy and not just spend it the same way. So that's something which is also always very important to remember. Yes, gaining weight is very easy. In that sense, you just give it more than you need. But when you're starting to deprive the body of calories, then also the body can say, I reduced the amount of energy I produced. So you feel more cold.

29:07Hagen Thiers:It gives you less energy to spend in order to just have less fat loss.

29:12Darin Olien:Exactly. And then there's hormonal situations, the leptin response and everything else that's communicating to keep that preservation happening. Exactly. That's what people think that, you know, fat is just this thing that is the effect of too many calories and everything else. But it's also it is that preservation. And it is a great place in our modern world to keep toxins away from our vital function and to push that into the fat tissue. And then on top of it, releasing that into the body is not something the body wants to do if the environment for it is not set up for it to restart to release those toxins that are embedded into the fat.

30:04Darin Olien:So there's a lot of layers to this thing that are important for people to understand. And then the other thing that you said, which I want to emphasize, is stress, right? So this inflammation plus stress is this double whammy that adds to the body just going, whoa, I'm going to shut down. I'm going to preserve myself because stress is stress is stress, right? So, but then going back to your restoration cycle, you started off with understanding the gut and, and just slowly building and giving your body diversity of fiber, giving the body less inflammatory things and things that can start to feed the good microbiome.

31:01Darin Olien:But you started, it was interesting, you started off because, you know, you're German, I'm also like all in on everything. If you go too fast too much, it can actually have the opposite effect. So you said you started with these small kind of smoothies, but you didn't gulp down, you know, a liter of a smoothie right away.

31:25Hagen Thiers:This is also because of the metabolism was measured in my case. And I noticed like I have way less calories which I'm allowed to eat than I thought. And so I also understood that like the first moment when I'm losing weight is I'm losing muscle. So I read the studies on what do I need to do? And because I was like, OK, I don't want to consume more than 2000 calories a day. and that's including that I'm doing one hour of high resistance training a day. This was my target on diet. And so I noticed, okay, I need around, you know, for one pound of body weight per day, I need one gram of protein. This is what the studies show.

32:15Hagen Thiers:You need a much higher amount of protein if you want to preserve your muscles while you're losing weight. This is very clearly studied, this subject. And this was a surprise. If you're starting to look into that, how much food that is, just on literally protein, I was like, that's a lot to eat. Like you're speaking here of what, like 20, 30 ounces of chicken breast or something like this in my body size of 6.3, 6.4, something like this.

32:43Darin Olien:And before we continue the pod, I want to share something. I've tried so many supplements. I've been in the space for 25 years. And every so often, something really pops out. Mana Vitality is that difference. It's not just about adding minerals. It's about tuning your body to the higher frequency, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Because this is the mana from the earth. The Shilajit, the Ormus minerals, and so on. There's so much going on with this brand. I'm so excited beyond the SheLegit, they're expanding into other elementals. The brand is built on ancient alchemy with ingredients like gold nanoparticles, beta-glucans, SheLegit, Ormus, all geared to elevate you, especially in today's world.

33:37Darin Olien:You need bioavailable, a bio-delivery system that upgrades your body from the inside out. Every formula is frequency charged to promote balanced energy immune system and cellular renewal. And the wild part, the more consistently you take it, the more you feel everything in your body. It's the same with me. The more I use it, the better I feel. My sleep improved. My skin glows. My stress goes down. my testosterone goes off it's like my whole system is humming again so if you're tired of low energy brain fog and or just not feeling the same and like something's missing check out mana go to mana vitality.com that's m-a-n-n-a vitality.com use the code darren20 and you get 20 off your order this isn't about health it's about living in harmony with your greatest and highest potential.

34:39Darin Olien:That is a lot of food to consume.

34:41Hagen Thiers:That is making you not hungry anymore. Your ghrelin production is obviously, you know, highly affected by this. So your appetite is regulated down and this allows you to actually lose weight while maintaining or even building muscles, which was for me the very important, crucial point that I'm not going, you know, to basically not anymore being able to eat anything because I wanted to preserve that muscle as much as possible while losing their weight. And so that was the target. And that's why I also went for those shots of fiber because I didn't have the allowance to drink like, you know, like if, you know, 20 ounces of smoothie a day with, you know, some salad inside and some vegetables and then, you know, a nice apple and mango.

35:27Hagen Thiers:No, they were not, you know, so plentiful in the size, but at least you can give the variety, which is showing that it's very good for the gut health. And that was one big part. So I focused very much on my protein first basis. And I didn't have much cravings anymore when I did that. And if I wanted something else and I had my target of my protein per day reached, I would allow myself anything, honestly. Because I was like, okay, you know, I reached my target. I had my gym, I had my exercise, I ate my protein, which I needed. I did the right things. And now if my body is still asking for some carbs in the end of the day, you know, some, then I would be like, that's fine with me.

36:13Hagen Thiers:You know, then I would be having at least the baseline clear because I understood this is not a sprint. This is a marathon. I have to keep this my life. And I didn't miss gym sessions in now one year and three months. So that's, you know, we went also just together in the gym in Austria. And that was, you know, even when traveling, I implement it now always. And that is a very important point that you build such a lifestyle, not as a diet, but as a general new lifestyle that you find it for yourselves. So that was my golden rule, you know, one gram of protein per body weight per day while going in a calorie deficit and having a good microbiome.

36:55Hagen Thiers:That was important.

36:57Darin Olien:But you also, from what I'm gathering, you also realized that you actually needed to eat more than you originally thought, right? So you didn't want to put yourself into more of that survival sense, right? So your body, again, it was taught to preserve. But if you were calorie depriving too much, then your body would start shifting into that and you realize, oh, shit, I got to eat more than I thought. I get to eat, you know, in this phase, I got to eat more protein than I thought. And then you, so you're able to switch that trigger in your body and get that leptin and grenolin back, you know, in a healthy, responsive place.

37:47and then you stayed consistent because we know that discipline is the key to almost everything.

37:56Darin Olien:You can have an awareness and even learn something, but if you're not actually taking the steps consistently, then there's nothing that's going to happen either.

38:05Hagen Thiers:That's so true. That is so true. You need to keep it in your life. It is really important. Otherwise, you cannot go on those crash diets. If you did, then actually building up this routine again and eating enough, especially of the right things, is really important. In my case, I went basically on three full meals and like two snacks meals. There's actually some interesting papers from Sweden and some Swedish researchers on this, that if you're in a very low metabolism state and you have been on those yo-yo effects and plateaus, which you were hitting constantly, then your body is for a very long time not gonna want to let go of weight because it's always thinking there's gonna be probably a phase where there's too little calories.

38:54Hagen Thiers:So eating like five small meals is giving your body always something to burn because again, the body is smart and we sometimes have to trick it a little bit. If you're like eating every three, four hours something, your body is like thinking, okay, I have too little energy. But it's noticing already over the tongue, over the saliva production and so on. It's getting the signal to the brain, hey, we are eating something. So when you're eating something, your body thinking, okay, more energy is coming. Okay, so far I'm having too little energy in my body to maintain myself. But there's more coming.

39:30Hagen Thiers:It doesn't know if you gave it 1 ,000 calorie or 200 calories. So giving your body over a period of time in the days, many times some small amount of foods in my time, like sweetly meals and like a protein shake in the morning and some, you know, protein bar in the evening or in the afternoon when I had like this, that would be also something which gives the body, even when you're in this energy deprived state, the signal, you're getting more energy and you're allowed to burn. And this is a very important part as well.

40:02Darin Olien:Yeah, I mean, and again, I just want to emphasize, you were in a very specific situation for you. So you're signaling to your body, you had to train your body to realize that there was calories available. And I think that's a very important thing. Not all people will respond based on their metabolism, based on where they're starting from, will respond to many meals throughout the day. So again, this is an individuality, a biochemical individuality that you had to uncover for yourself. And then you can kind of push back and go and look back and go, wow, this was because of this early part of my life that I wasn't in the modern day world.

40:52Darin Olien:I was in extreme situations and you had to retrain your body to go, Hey, you know, because the, the amygdala and the, and the primal side of the body you had, it was doing it's like, and I love that you said it, the body is never wrong. It's just us decoding what it's expressing or not expressing. And, and you decoded that. And, and, and also you jumped in and you, the German jumped in to study. And I think that's, I think about this all the time. We can't just listen to influencers or people. We have to be the CEO of our own life, of our own health. We have to take that on. We can't throw it off to someone else to tell us 100%.

41:45Darin Olien:Of course, you get information from people and from studies and things like that. But we have to be the CEO of our own health. And that is then creating the strategy of discipline and taking action and all of that stuff. And I love that you completely took that on. And I think that's a very, very important part of this whole thing. And some of the yo-yo things is, oh, I'm listening to this, I'm going to do this, and I'm going to get all the results I want when they're kind of offloading it to some other program or some other thing and people miss out that whole part of it. Like, listen, there's no get out of jail free in this world.

42:34Darin Olien:You have to show up and listen to your body and get the research or the studies or the feedback to understand where, where any person is kind of starting from and then create that plan that's going to work for them. Yeah, that's true.

42:55Hagen Thiers:Well,

42:56Darin Olien:and yeah, so then on the, on the inflammatory side, you, you know, you mentioned something that you know hyperbaric is such a powerful tool um we've been studying oxygen for gosh hundreds of years even in the early reports in the 17th century yeah and then it really started picking up in the 18th century 19 and then now it's kind of there's kind of a mainstream understanding but But people still, I don't think it's used or utilized enough because oxygen is such an important delivery system. And if people get access to hyperbaric, that pressurization also creates this higher degree of dissolvability in the plasma and in the tissues.

43:53Darin Olien:And that's where that inflammatory response can really be. is just one aspect of what oxygen can do. But for you, it's such a powerful tool to get after some of the inflammatory responses and allow more oxygen in the body. So yeah, how are some of those, you said at record levels, you jumped into that. Like what was your experience when you first started doing it? Did you feel something right away or did you trust the science and just kind of keep leaning into it? Like what was that like for you?

44:32Hagen Thiers:Well, so I had this, I saw on the hyperbarics that they obviously help. And I saw also that, you know, you need quite a lot of sessions in order to get some benefits from that. And what was for me really interesting, especially when we're speaking about, you know, like fat tissues and um, Inflammated states, hyperbaric is, um, always reaching areas which our normal, um, well, blood circulation is not reaching so well. So it's basically working the opposite from our normal body in that sense, right? So, if you're in a, just maybe to start this off or you take even a step back, right? Like for the people who don't know hyperbaric, you go inside the chamber, you get some pressure built up and you breathe in a higher concentrated oxygen and then it's, This is being pushed inside of tissues and joints, right?

45:25Hagen Thiers:To give it a really small summary what hyperbaric is. So, and so when you're normally, you have to transport all vitamins, all, you know, all anti-inflammatory things. We are the blood and the oxygen. You have to transport it everywhere. And especially the fat tissue is not very well saturated and connected to the blood circulation. So, and there you have also toxins. there you could also have inflammation, there you could also have a variety of things. Same with the joints, same with the spine, same with the bones, and same with the brain or hair. And, you know, like this is where hyperbaric is really reaching areas which you normally don't reach.

46:07Hagen Thiers:So you can always push in oxygen, which has anti-inflammatory properties, and especially for the gut as well. it's very well studied and more and more under investigation that there can be the biggest effects and so this is something which i i started to become very interested in it and in the first 30 40 sessions i lost around um during i started the hyperbaric i lost um like um what is that in pounds I was at 20 kilos down and so that's like 40-50 pounds yeah so and that was at around uh the levels of um of 40 to 60 hyperbaric sessions so it would almost uh translate like um a pound per session you could say and then it still hit a barrier and I was getting more and more um addicted to it and I was like my body was craving for it and I was like really starting to feel good and I was like I need this I need this and so that was something which was really interesting that I went on and then I really went all in because I noticed like the effects they come late but then they're feelable and this is the same thing what we saw on the science and what I then saw like okay like the real benefits they are happening apparently after 60 sessions to give a small you know summarizing summarizing also it's like okay there's some effects after 10 sessions after 20 sessions you know you see bigger effects after 30 you see great ones and after 60 you're speaking about telomere length increasement of like 26 percent and you know like literally reversing your age And this is the longest study which has been done on agent.

48:05Hagen Thiers:60 sessions within three months, five times a week. And that was the study which had the biggest effects. And it is just a clear line. The more sessions you make, the bigger the results. So I was like, well, but there is not one study on more than 60 sessions. So nobody also knew what is beyond that horizon, right? But the line was very interesting and intriguing for me and I felt it. So I went to 17 ,000 minutes of hyperbaric therapy within around 18 months. And so this is obviously just my own personal case or pilot study, I think you could call it. But for me then, the big effects happened when I was in around 140 sessions, each over 60 minutes.

48:57Hagen Thiers:that's when actually all barriers fell and the weight loss from then on was just clearly down and that was something which was just my personal reference and story to that and so that was something which was very intriguing and then also after I completed 250 sessions since then my body is not anymore craving for it so much. That is something which I found very fascinating. So now I'm like at two sessions a week, maybe, something like this. And I feel absolutely okay with that. And I do it because, you know, I feel more refreshed. I don't have any more fatigues in the afternoon or something like this.

49:42Hagen Thiers:But this craving, like I want this each day because I feel more and more, you know, like almost, it was like thirsty, you know, for this oxygen under pressure. And it was fascinating from that aspect. So it's, again, also something about listening to the body, I would say. And, well, this is how that story went. So, yeah, 160 sessions, something like that was the real breakthrough area when then everything, you know, really was gate open and you could lose all the weight. And that was really where the magic happened. Before that, it was just around a pound per session, you could say. And then I had a stalling area, increased the sessions, and then it went all the way.

50:31Hagen Thiers:Wow. What is it? 170 pounds total weight loss in 13 months. 13 months? Yeah, 13 months was 65.

50:41Darin Olien:170 pounds. Wow. You know, so I want to address a couple of things because you had access to some of the greatest, you know, hyperbaric oxygen chambers on the planet. Yeah. That was a blessing. Obviously, not everyone has access to that, although, you know, small tubes sessions are in functional medical facilities around the world. So I just want to say that not everybody has access to hyperbaric oxygen chambers. However, I think there's more access than what people realize because they are around.

51:27Hagen Thiers:Yeah. So I was working with OxyHealth chambers and here cheers out to them. so and they there's a they are probably the most established manufacturer for hyperbaric chambers and in the world and they have over 2 ,800 multi chambers in action worldwide so like if you're like going to to London and you're looking at hyperbaric chambers you know or something like this there's probably like 10 different studios and clinics which are giving you access to them and that's for the most cities that is like that and most of them are from from oxy help so and there is there is a variety of differences in the in the quality of chambers this is something which has to be said as well so you you know you want to make sure nowadays I don't know why there is this really cheap knockout versions from China come on where you're just breathing in ambient and air under pressure, which is actually like, I don't, I'm still, it's making me mad, you know, because this is literally making you narcotic and making you more inflamed.

52:39Hagen Thiers:So this is something which is bad for you. And then I'm reading on their study on their website, like, oh yeah, you're gonna actually take pressurized CO2, enriched with CO2. And I was like, this is the most narcotic gas you can breathe and you're like energizing it's like okay everybody are you ready

54:32Hagen Thiers:So please go into a chamber where you have a higher amount of oxygen. And that is the most crucial part, I guess, to spotlight in this. And then there is a very big second area which you should look on. There is chambers where you're taking like this mask, which is supposed to separate your CO2 from the oxygen. So your breathe out gas and your breathe in gas. But most of the chamber manufacturers, they're basically using scan masks. They are not using this real bib mask, how they are called, which are supposed to be used for hyperbaric chambers. but they are using like some knocker of painter producer versions and they are actually not separating that and in the end you're also getting a co2 treatment so if you're getting those nasal tubes you know where you are really getting pure oxygen supplied and you can still talk normally and so on that's when you also know you have a flush chamber not a dead chamber but a continuously flush chamber from the air perspective and then you're good so this is like the two three customer recommendations I can give there if you're looking for that.

55:43Hagen Thiers:And so that's for instance.

55:46Darin Olien:Yeah, I mean, knockoff versions are all over the place, but you want to definitely do your own research to make sure that the oxygen saturation is legit and real. And again, there's all kinds of, you know, it's funny. I was, this was, gosh, this was in 1997, where I had a retired medical doctor. I was living in Boulder, Colorado, and he would drop off these, this is kind of the internet wasn't really a thing yet. And there was a retired doctor who would do all this research at Colorado University. and he would give me stacks of paper on herbal medicaid like herbal support and everything it was my first kind of like real data that he was supplying me and he was talking about hyperbaric back then i was gonna start a hyperbaric oxygen clinic with him in 1998 and i'm bummed we were looking at a you know buying a thing and just having a room and i knew a bunch of gyms and you know and i'm i'm bummed that i didn't because getting exposed to what it was what the atmospheric dissolvability of increased oxygen it's the spark of every cell it's needed to turn on the krebs cycle and increase ATP, like the mitochondria and all this stuff, it is so vital to so many antimicrobial, like we said, anti-inflammatory, angiogenesis, which creates more proliferation of neuroplasticity.

57:39Darin Olien:So it creates more opportunity for the creation of circulation and things like that so this this is this is really really an important tool that i still think is not utilized enough um and hopefully it can go mainstream a little more as we yeah it's coming and the the other thing i want to talk about if people don't have access to a hyperbaric like they're listening today they're inspired they're like shit maybe i I mean, you can almost guarantee we're all craving more oxygen. What are your thoughts on, because I love, you know, Wim Hof and breathing stuff and retention holds and increasing your body's ability to receive more oxygen.

58:33Darin Olien:And we can do that on a daily level. It's not going to be at the high levels, obviously, of sitting in a hyperbaric. But these are things that we can, you know, long breath holds, doing some breathing routines. This is something we can certainly enact and turn on our body's ability to receive more oxygen. Have you implemented any of the breathing routines as a part of your daily process as well?

59:05Hagen Thiers:Yeah, well, I've met already Wim Hof like 2010. and 10 we were already on stage together back then so it's been a while and i'm a huge fan of the cold plunges and you know like um so and of cold exposure it was naturally available too since i was in finland so there was uh you know certain certain synergies and um you know like overlaying areas obviously and i'm a big fan of that definitely and i also tried obviously the breath work and of Wim Hof and I'm a fan of it especially when it comes to the regards of cold exposure extending cold exposure I'm my record is like 18 minutes in the cold plunge so at three degrees so I'm pretty I'm pretty strict on those as well and this is only also possible with that breathing exercise and which helps with weight loss definitely however we have to understand in some ways we cannot just beat physics you know like we are always gonna breathe in 21 percent oxygen in our ambient air you know our air is just you know a mixture of 21 oxygen 78 nitrogen and you know one percent of rare gases and so when we are breathing that in your body still has to circulate oxygen themselves over the blood plasma and you're just able to literally breathe in 21 % of oxygen so and the thing is that in the hyperbaric sessions you can breathe in 150 200 300 or 400 percent of oxygen in theory and this is how far we're going maximum in the medical chambers they're going to up to 600 percent and i had those sessions uh for my biggest one was um 580a with 90 percent oxygen 95 oxygen or something like this in a medical chamber and um that was really that was really um the craziest hyperbaric session i'd done and so you know this is something which you just cannot do by breath work and the body is getting this pushed inside of areas which you normally can't even supply it and i think that breath work is a very much you know underestimated tool and it definitely has its areas where you can benefit from it very much and still i wouldn't put it into the same category as a hyperbaric session yeah no i mean well clearly not i mean

1:01:53Darin Olien:But I'm just saying in terms of like you can optimize your ability to receive more oxygen and it can help. I mean, obviously, Wim has done a bunch of stuff on which there's many mechanisms. It's not just it's not just oxygen. Right. So there's many mechanisms going on, breathing sessions, downregulating, anti-inflammatory and stuff like that. But I'm just saying in terms of people listening to this and they're like, shit. I don't have access?

1:02:26Hagen Thiers:Yeah. Well, I think breathwork is one. And second one I found for myself was diving when traveling. You know, that was a big one, which is still cheaper than for many places, a hyperbaric. So that's another option which you can do if you have a pool. You know, just get yourself a bottle of oxygen. Certified and jump with oxygen tank for five euros in your pool.

1:02:49Darin Olien:Just don't do it by yourself.

1:02:53Hagen Thiers:I did that too. So that's another way to save a buck. And then otherwise, you know, there's possibilities. You can rent those chambers and then it's not so crazy. And you have those facilities. It's still not out of the reach for most of the people.

1:03:14Darin Olien:But I also want to say that the body's overall mechanisms of – you didn't just rely on the hyperbaric oxygen. You created your own environment in your body first where you create an ideal situation of diversity of food, clean eating, minimizing stress. And so then on top of that, you had that momentum going and you were getting results. Just the German and you had access to the stuff. So you jumped in and then you had accelerated, obviously, benefits. But again, you didn't rely on one thing. It was a multidisciplinary approach. And I mean, that's unbelievable. I mean, you like seeing you after meeting you being, you know, a lot heavier, like you're, you're a completely different person.

1:04:19Darin Olien:And it's, and it's beautiful to see. Yeah.

1:04:23Hagen Thiers:Well, thank you very much for that. And I think, you know, we should post here in the video, the picture of before and after of us. That's a good one to see. You can send that.

1:04:34Darin Olien:We'll, we'll, we'll throw it up on screen for sure. And yeah, so now moving forward, like now having a lens of just this new life, I'm curious how has life shifted for you? And because you're living into your dream, you're living into a new vantage point of your life. and your body's functioning better, you have more energy, you're taking care, you're stronger. What's life like now for you?

1:05:13Hagen Thiers:It's good to be back in this physical state. I didn't remember this anymore for 20 years. You can run, you have no limitations of anything. You don't have any restrictions. you know and that is that is really amazing you know spending time with the with the kids and with you know the family and being able to not anymore have any limitations is I it's just amazing you know that is that is for me you know the biggest blessing of being able you know to go on a run on the bike with them and my my kids they started to go to the gym with me you know because I'm like yeah I have my gym routine and they're like well we're all the one I spent time I said let's go together you know now everybody is going and you know you have this positive impact and this is you know moments which is uh which is stunning which i'm which i'm really happy and grateful for and um you know you have not anymore this fatigue you have this energy this more presence is more confidence which is which is that and it's nothing anymore which i want to miss you know the the gym has been rigorous in my life you know since now what i said 15 months is it now that i haven't gym sessions and you know it's just a beautiful place as well you know like this place never lies to you you know there's so much fake in this world and the gym the iron always gives you back that that information of um you know how are you doing today it doesn't matter what you as your excuse and so on it's gonna give you a direct feedback you know now coming back after christmas you will get your feedback and new year what you have been doing the last two weeks if you visited the gym or not and how you ate it doesn't lie to you i love that and uh so that is something which i definitely will keep with my life and which is a big part of that and now i'm definitely continue down this path you know and uh get more stronger get more fit i'm trying to build you know like five six kilos of more muscles now which is easier with a lower metabolism for me to do and then you know come to a to a spot where it's also more accessible to have normal foods from time to time while i'm not anymore you know having to be in such a big big energy deficiency deficiency so that is kind of like the next step you know like getting to this area that you look good you are fit and you can you know have a have a diet which is supporting that which is not letting you gain weight anymore but you're fit and strong and healthy and this is obviously in order to go for 26.

1:07:54Right. Well, and I think that's a big part of this whole thing.

1:07:59Darin Olien:And that, you know, it may have started you in this extreme place where you had to do some extreme, quote unquote, some extreme things in order to shift. But then as your body has responded and is now kind of out of this deprivation state, now it's got a little more latitude, not that you're going to lose focus, but it's less inflammatory, less reactive, and it's just overall stronger and more resilient. And I think that's the key. And it's beautiful. And that's the thing that we lose focus sometimes because we think that, oh my God, this is the way it's going to be forever. and it's too restrictive and the, you know, all of this stuff, but everything changes, but discipline is what's going to take us there.

1:08:57Darin Olien:And, and you're such a great, uh, example of that. Uh, and, and, and to, to have the experience, cause what is happiness and contentment if it isn't the freedom of being able to live, being able to run with your kids and You're traveling all over the world. You're happier. You're joyful. You're connected. You're free from restrictions that you had before. And that's the prescription of a happy life, man.

1:09:30Hagen Thiers:Yeah, and it's literally, we underestimate it. I did that just the other week before Christmas. I did a farmer's work with two dumbbells in my hands with the weight which I lost. it were the biggest dumbbells in the gym and I did this walk and I was like damn I was carrying this each step and they tell me 10 000 steps a day and I was like I remember how tired I was when I was in the end of my day and And I did like 8 ,000, 7 ,000 steps most of my days, you know. And I was then walking this farmer's walk as this 160 pounds or what is it. And I was like, what? I was so tired after, you know, doing this for a couple of minutes.

1:10:25Hagen Thiers:And I thought like, now I know what was that, where that energy went. You were carrying it. it is so we are underestimating uh how much energy this is consuming and how you know how much life quality it steals from us and you know i just also want to give some of this hope you know to give the people back you know like especially you said it so many times now like yes i have an extreme story that is true but you know how many people i know which have been on real strict crazy diets like i know a guy who has been like on a popcorn diet a doctor which is like on a 400 calorie popcorn diet for six weeks and going to the gym i know those people i've met all kind of stories because everybody is speaking you know when you're having this you're sharing your stories and you know like there we underestimate how many people have damaged their systems their metabolism and that they still are missing some of the basic ideas so you know i think inflammatory regulation is one of the most important things to address and this is a message definitely worth sharing so if you you know do everything right you are sure that you are having enough protein which is i think the number one thing which i would recommend to the listener like calculate your protein and look if you are close to that one pound per day ratio so I can look at the calories if they are excessive and then when that is done and you're still doing you know more consumption of energy what you burned and what you give it and you don't lose weight I would always look into inflammation and to how to see where is the information coming from is it your environment is it your stress level is it your you know radiation sensitivity what is it and then take that away in my sense it was still food which was a big problem and that chronic stress which i had from from running five companies and so many employees and then you know giving the body something to heal which wasn't i can in my case oxygen under pressure

1:12:43Darin Olien:dude i love it man i i'm just so i'm so happy for you i'm so happy for your kids um and and you're such a great example of of taking this on and making that shift and uh and yeah so if people have access to oxygen then clearly uh that's a huge tool but also So food's a tool, and I think what you said was perfect because look at the environment, the fatal conveniences, the EMFs, the fragrances, the crappy products, the horrible food. All of this stuff either is helping you or it adds to your inflammatory response. And we have a lot of control, but we have to know what we're doing or not doing, and that's the key.

1:13:38Darin Olien:definitely well thanks brother and uh and thanks for sharing your story it's huge and uh yeah and and here's to you just kicking ass and having a super life man thank you it was a pleasure being on thank you so much darren thanks brother okay hold on for a second i'm gonna turn it off and then

In this powerful and deeply personal conversation, Darin sits down with Hagen Thiers to unpack one of the most misunderstood journeys in health: why doing "everything right" still doesn't always work — and how true transformation requires decoding the body's survival signals, not fighting them.

Hagen shares his remarkable physical transformation after decades of extreme metabolic adaptation, chronic gut inflammation, and stress-driven physiology. Together, they explore metabolism, inflammation, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, protein intake, discipline, and why sustainable health is built through patience, self-leadership, and listening to the body's intelligence.

True health isn't about forcing the body to change — it's about creating the conditions where the body finally feels safe enough to let go.
