42Darin Olien:Remember, 10 tablets cost you just a dollar a day and you and your health are absolutely worth it. Hey everybody, welcome to the show. This is Darren O 'Lean and this is the Super Life Podcast. Thanks for tuning in. We're going to talk about thriving through the holidays. Not every aspect of it, but I first want to start off just maybe invoking a little something. Something to break out of the normalcy that the holidays can sometimes bring. The holidays are here. And I want to ask you something honestly. How are you supporting your health, all of your health right now? Are you telling yourself, it's the holidays, I want to just live a little, eat anything?
27And I think there's opportunity for that and I'm not judging it. And are you also staying disciplined in a good way too? because that can also inform the mental, emotional, spiritual, integrative aspects of what you want in your life. How about your happiness? Are you actually enjoying this season, this upcoming season? Or are you just kind of looking to get through it? Are you stressed? Are you financially stretched? Are you already excited and emotionally activated in a good or negative way? Because for a lot of people, the holidays don't just bring cheer, of course. They bring up family dynamics, old patterns, unspoken expectations, judgment, obligation.
18So today, I want to talk about something a little deeper. I want to talk about, yeah, I'm going to get into food and fitness and supplements because I just want to give you that because you ask all the time. But I want to also talk a little deeper than that. I want to talk about how to thrive during the holidays, not just get through them, white knuckle, survive them. So I'm going to launch off in a series of questions that you can re-listen to again. And questions are one of the greatest things that you can live into. Because when you ask a question and you're not necessarily seeking a direct answer, Then you invoke that energy of the universe, of God, of listening to your soul and listening from a deeper part of yourself to then potentially get access to these greater parts of ourselves, to have greater connection to ourselves, to what really matters.
19Because that's what it's all about. So the first question is, and if you want, you know, jot these things down. Or tomorrow morning, grab a journal. What do the holidays really mean to you? No matter what your affiliations are or religion, but what do they matter to you? And how do they matter to you? Do the holidays represent love, community, generosity, and connection? Or do they represent other things? Do they represent pressure, expectation? I should do this. I should be somewhere with someone or doing something or even doing things that don't really align with you anymore. What about traditions?
07The traditions that you have in around the holidays, are they consciously chosen or are they inherited? Are those what align with you now? Do these traditions support your current values? Or are these older versions of yourself that sometimes, and of course getting around family, we kind of energetically get put into a box? And that doesn't feel comfortable. When you are living your life and you're so much more than maybe even what your family believes you to be because they're used to you as they've only been used to you. and yet you're living this whole other life in some instances. Are you spending time with people you genuinely want to be with?
56Are you showing up out of obligation? Because obligation, just hearing that word, drains our energy. And energy is really everything. The real gift of the holidays, there's a lot. What would it take for you to thrive this season? Not just physically, but emotionally, spiritually, mentally. What if the holidays became a time for you to focus on your heart, out of your mind and into your heart, into your body? What if there was an opportunity for you to heal old wounds? Not just white knuckle and get through, but to heal. When emotion comes up, when old traumas come up, with old emotions that come up or with old traumas that come up when sometimes we get around family, big or small, what if you use that as an opportunity to heal?
53What if you actually started journaling now, today, about releasing and letting go, loving and forgiving? Practice forgiveness of others and yourself, and it instantly heals you and them. Give yourself permission to go after your dreams. What if this holiday season you gave yourself permission to take a step into and for your dreams? What you really want. What if you use this holiday season as a release of judgment? Let go of the pain and trauma. It does not have to define you. Learn from it. Give it attention. Acknowledge it. And then ask yourself, who do I want to be? Where do I want to go? Forgiveness is not weakness.
43It's resilience. And self-love, real self-love, really loving yourself builds your nervous system. And when you build your nervous system and your endocannabinoid system that is also receiving information and feeding the nervous system, you start to be able to have the ability to handle more of life, receive more of life. letting go of old patterns and of the past so that you can receive the future that you secretively want. Bring it out. Let it out. That's the gift, not just a ball of stuff. And you don't have to be perfect. This isn't perfection. It's the opportunity to be present. So here's some of the things that I am doing this holiday season because these matter to me.
34And I offer them to you. Eat good. Whole foods. Double down. Don't wait for January 1st. Don't wait until you feel guilty after eating copious amounts of food. And listen, enjoy yourself. I'm not saying don't. But not every day, not every meal. Get back on track with what matters to you. Prepare your own stuff. If you're finding yourself going to parties, bring your own stuff. So you always have this aspect. Like share it with everyone, of course. But then you have things that you can, you know, a meal or a side plate or a veggie dish or whatever that is that you put love into and that you can consume so you don't have to consume a bunch of other stuff.
16And don't just rely on willpower. Willpower does not work all the time. Create the avenue. Create the runway of mindset and truth and prepare your life around that. Your perspective literally shapes your reality. Visualize yourself positive and powerful going into every holiday event. Who do you want to be around your friends and family this year? Feel what that feels like today. Like literally today. Practice reshaping who you are, what you are, and step into that energy today. Get used to what that feels like. Use visualization. Here's what I'm personally doing this holiday. I want to share my approach, not as a prescription, but just as an example.
06Take what resonates and then leave the rest. The first thing I'm doing is I'm not going home for the holidays. I'm not going back to Minnesota. Number one, it's very cold. I did tell my mom 20 some years ago, I probably won't be coming home much at all for the holidays. It's very intense. I've flown in before with winter storms and everything. And also, my family, since my childhood until now, they don't celebrate all that much. They get together. They have meals. But it's not a major thing. So I kind of set that up a while back. So I'm not going home for that. But I do, of course, love my family.
51I reach out to them. I talk to them. I plan the next trip when it's springtime or summer. And so what I'm doing with all of this is I'm protecting my own energy. Not that it's fragile, but it's moreover I'm being the energy I want to be, but also I'm building energy, right? I'm building towards my next future, my next goal. I'm bringing the invitation in for other things. This means choosing consciously, not selfishly, not restrictively, not reactively. And I no longer feel guilty for that. I let go of that a long time ago. My friends, my men's group, friends that know me, know that I am unapologetically clear in what I do.
41The boundaries I keep, the people I hang out with, this is self-honoring to me so that I can build my future. This year, however, I'm traveling with someone I deeply care about. I'm stoked to do that. I'm going to celebrate the holidays in my own way, but I'm going to build new experiences. And I've never been more excited about the holidays than I am this year. And that really matters, especially after one of the hardest years of my life. I've been through, like we all have, a lot of experiences, kind of finishing a seven-year cycle of losing my property, rebuilding it. My guest house will be up in January, so I will be moving from the yurt into my guest house, which will feel like a castle.
35And then after that, of course, I'll turn my attention on the main house, but I'm not under pressure to do that. I'm so excited about the next steps. My year has been riddled with a lot of challenges. I've talked to you about the stem cells, the physical things I've been approaching and using to deal with a tremendous amount of back pain, knee pain, and trauma. Old, old trauma. And with that old trauma, one of the biggest questions I get constantly is,
08Darin Olien:Darren, where can I find the best non-toxic cookware? Listen, I don't mess around with things that go ultimately in my body. And that includes what I cook with. That's why I swear by Our Place. Because from day one, they've been committed to making clean, healthy, non-toxic cookware and kitchenware. No sketchy coatings, no forever chemicals, just pure conscious design that are beautiful as well as highly functional. I've been using their titanium always pan for months now. It's the only pan I cook with and here's why. Pure titanium, non-toxic, PFAS free. Extremely durable, metal utensils, high heat, dishwasher safe.
04Darin Olien:This thing can handle it all. All in one performance. The best stainless steel cast iron nonstick in a single pan. And here's the real kicker. Most nonstick pans, they're still loaded with PFAS. These forever chemicals that break down in your body and stay in your body. And they accumulate over time. We just don't need that. They disrupt the gut microbiome, testosterone, dysregulation, metabolic issues, hormone imbalances, immune dysfunction, and chronic inflammation they contribute to. Think about it. Every time you cook, you could be introducing toxins into your body. And the simple act of switching to safe cookware eliminates that.
49Darin Olien:This is why it's the easiest, most powerful change you can make, certainly in your kitchen, for long-term health and the elimination of toxic exposure. So Our Place is having their biggest sale of the year. 35 % all site-wide products through January 12th. So head over to fromourplace.com forward slash Darren and see why over a million people have made the switch to Our Place Kitchenware. And with their 100-day risk-free trial, free returns, and free shipping, you can shop with confidence. So Our Place holiday sale is going on right now with no discount code necessary. I spent a lot of time releasing birth trauma.
43I may have said this many times in other podcasts, but I'll say it here. I was born premature, three and a half, four pounds. I had a 50-50 chance of living. There was a point where I almost didn't, but I chose. And my father saw the moment, and he told me later in his life, I saw the moment when you chose to live. I was stuck in a little incubator for three weeks, first three weeks of my life, no contact with my mom, all in whatever horrible formula they were giving me to try to gain weight. When in truth, I just wanted my mom and I wanted breast milk. And, you know, it's that kind of thing. But in 1970, they were doing the best they can.
28But that created trauma. And so I sat with all the pain I was physically experiencing and used that opportunity to travel back into that trauma. And also had some amazing conversations with my mother. What it was like for her at this time and what it was like in our family dynamic. My dad was a raging alcoholic at the time. He was losing jobs. He was kind of a child. So my mom had my older brother, two years older, Troy, a newborn that came home at five pounds that luckily survived, and a husband that was out of control. Yes, my dad did get sober when I was four, and there was some trauma around that too, but he got sober.
17He wasn't the most pleasant person to be around for the first, you know, decade and a half of my life, but I became great friends with him later in life. Unfortunately, many of you know he passed away from alcohol again after 30 years of sobriety, but this episode is not about that. The opportunity this year and why I'm sharing this with you is shedding and releasing what no longer serves, but also giving it attention. The little Darren that had a lot of stuff protecting his heart. And only upon excavating that did other love show up in my life, other opportunities show up in my life, and most importantly, the release of things that I was holding on that I wasn't aware of until the physical pain showed up.
08So this season for me, and maybe for you too, could be about building your energy, creating a safe space for you, and love for the best year ahead. That is what I want for you, so that you can build your own super life, whatever that is, the courageousness of stepping in, no longer listening to the mind and the trauma and the perspective that comes when you have gone through something. The other side of it is the greatest gift ever. This year, I had a lot of great guests on the show talking about trauma, releasing trauma, and it kind of reflected what was going on for me. So if you want to look back at some of those episodes, I'll put them here in the show notes.
57So some of the things that I'm doing in the holidays, and that's always happening, but I double down. I double down on my superfoods. I eat in a 12 to 16 hour window, depending on the day. I mostly eat fruit in the morning, salads during the day, nuts and seeds and legumes. Simple, clean, and supportive. This supports my new outlooks, what I want to create. It reflects my inner state so that I can build the life that I want. The other thing that I'm doing is I'm training harder and harder every day again, and I'm so excited about that. I'm not just managing pain. I'm still in the healing process, and I feel like I've been rehabbing for a year, but now I'm starting to rebuild.
49Strength, muscle, functional movements, strength equals resilience, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Some of the supplements I'm using to also reflect my world, and you've asked all the time. So on the daily, I use, of course, Fatty15, supporting mitochondria, the energy flows of every cell. I use TruNiogen, the other nicotinamide riboside to help promote the NAD in the cells. I use EnergyBits, Monovitality, the mana of the earth, incredible company, the SheLegit, the Ormus minerals. And of course, my baby that I formulated in 2006 to 2008, Shakeology, I still use on a daily basis. I usually add that to my fruit bowls and everything else.
43And then in the holiday season and in the winter season, a good quality D3K2. I'm currently using pine pollen. It's great for helping to modulate the endocrine systems, support the testosterone naturally. I'm not a fan of peptides at this moment. I'm not a fan of synthetic TRTs or hormone replacements. For me, I want to always build my foundation of what's going on rather than look to an exogenous hormone or something like this. I want to build from within. Chaga mushroom on the daily. Of course, I use chaga. My dog's name is chaga. And I'm really on a daily basis and I'm excited to build something with a foundation of cacao that I'm working on, new supplement, a new foundational principle that I've done for 30 years on a bring to the market.
47So I'm building that, a new project, many other supplements, many other adaptogens. Again, this is not advice. This is just my transparency. And in terms of the nervous system and mindset practices, especially during the holidays, I still use New Calm. It's a great app I use every day. I use the rescue. I use the brain focus. The other superpowers is I'm getting more and more stoked about truly doing visualization. So I do my meditation. I do my guided meditations. I do my New Calm. But then I step into a lucid visualization where I step into, I can go a lot deeper. I'm going to go deeper on this on my Patreon and talk in length about this.
36But I go into this lucid frame of my life. So I'm stepping into the future and I'm meeting that future self, pulling in that energy now into the present. And then from there, it informs me to build the steps that I need to build and create and generate for the things to meeting that future self in this moment. I also use red light therapy, red pads, red cap that I use for the head. These are great for calming my nervous system during my meditations. All of this comes from Therisage. I've used their product well before I even had them as sponsors on the podcast. Some of the journaling questions that I ask and then let it kind of stream of consciousness is I do ask myself, who am I?
33What am I? What do I perceive? And I hear that information deep inside. The kingdom is always inside. What do I desire? What do I want to be? What do I want to generate? What do I want to create in the world? And then after I'm sitting with that, I'm writing things out, I'm letting that flow, I'm listening to myself. Then I ask, what's one step or many steps that I can take to move forward on these awarenesses? Clarity creates momentum. And then during the night, I've been loving these late night sauna sessions. The sun's already down. I turn on my Therisage personal sauna and I actually go all the way in it.
20It's got red light panels surrounding me and I go in. I actually use this as a second meditation going into the womb. It's fantastic. Heat, stillness, more release. And of course, sauna is just great to release toxins from our modern day world. And I love that thing. It's on my deck outside and I sit and just dive into all of that stuff. So this isn't a promotion. I'm just telling you what I do. And then the thing that's made a huge difference for me at night is I used to, for sure, you know, after I've eaten and it's night and I'm getting tired, I turn on the TV and I find some sort of program.
05And that's fine. It's all good. But now, instead of watching TV, I talk. I connect. I deepen relationships. I have one, two, three-hour conversations with my girlfriend. I read. I have shifted this habit of just kind of zoning out and watching something. And I've now turned the corner and doing things that nurture my soul. And it also down-regulates me. Gets me into that parasympathetic. I'm no longer staring at screens and I get to go to sleep and be present over distracted. These things have been so exciting to me. I'm actually excited for the evening rather than just kind of tuning out to tune into some program.
57I still love TV for sure. I love a good movie. I love a good documentary. I still will do that. But honestly, connecting with people I care about, connecting with people I love is so powerful. Some of the things that I'm doing this year, I'm working on a new project. It's kind of top secret. I've been filming some stuff throughout the year. And I'm excited to talk to you about that when I can. But I am so excited about it, man. Like I said, I'm developing a new supplement, which I haven't done in a very long time. and I love developing supplements. I love the alchemy. I love the research. I realize I'm good at it.
40I've been doing it for really a long, long time. And I nerd out. I get to nerd out and I love that part of my life. And I'm excited to do it, to bring my own product to the market. And of course, I'm still working on this podcast and getting greater guests and bringing good content to you. The other things that I'm doing is also exploring new technologies, new healing technologies, working with groups. There's some voice recognition stuff that is emerging that is so powerful, so cool. And so I'm always on the pulse of some researchers and doctors and talk to them on a regular basis. And then, of course, with my good friend Chris Patton, who's doing a lot of clean energy stuff.
26I've known him for 20 years. and he's developing more and more stuff that can help all of humanity. And I don't even say that lightly. So understand that creation is fuel. The holidays do not have to drain you. They can restore you. But only if you choose intentionally. My thought and prayer with you today in this holiday season is don't just do things. Even if you have obligations, that's fine. but you can choose to be the best version of yourself. Protect your energy. Honor your body. Heal your heart. Remember, you're not alone ever and you are allowed to build the life that actually feels good to you.
11You don't need my permission but from God's voice to my voice, I'm telling you, you have permission. You have it right now. So go do it. That is what super life is all about. That's what I care about. I want to unleash people in the world living powerfully in their heart, releasing trauma, and building a life together, all of us as a community. And the last thing I'll leave you with, maybe not the last thing, but minimize your exposure to algorithms. Minimize your exposure to narratives. Minimize it. Be aware of what's going on in the world. That's fine. But protect your energy and build your energy.
58Create the energy and create the intention of what you want to build in the world. How you want to be. Lead from your heart, not from your mind. And you could have the opportunity from a year from now to not even recognize your life because you've now built it in a way that was intentional, clear, and from the heart. Until next time, be well, thrive, and remember, don't be afraid to kick some ass for your health, for your life, and for the love that you want to bring in the world.
