In short
Investigation of “broken” systems around health, water, power, food, shelter, environment, and healthcare, arguing they actively fail people and profit from sickness; listeners should “opt out” by taking personal sovereignty actions and pushing for policy changes.
Guest backgrounds
No guests mentioned; episode is presented by host Darin Olien.
Key claims
U.S. health spending mostly treats chronic disease (cited: 90% of $4.1T). Tap water contains many contaminants including PFAS, chlorine/fluoride, heavy metals, microplastics. Power is “dirty electricity” and contributes to disasters (California fires blamed on derelict power lines). Ultra-processed food drives obesity/cancer/premature death. Indoor air is 2–5x more polluted than outdoors; homes expose people to VOCs, formaldehyde, flame retardants, and EMFs.
Notable examples
PFAS “forever chemicals”; reverse osmosis; solar panels/pool pumps; California power poles; EMF steps like turning off Wi‑Fi at night; functional/integrative medicine; deforestation/soil degradation; shark overfishing and shark finning; “one million species” at risk.

0:32Darin Olien:Before we dive into today's episode, I want to thank my sponsor, Therasage. Pulsed electromagnetic frequencies done in the right way with the right frequencies are incredibly beneficial for your mitochondria. Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy. That's what PEMF is. I've been using it at alternative doctors' offices for a very long time. Well, now you can own a mat that has one of these technologies on it among six other technologies. It's got PEMF, which I use every day. It's got red light, photon technology, gemstone technology, full spectrum, infrared, heat, a TENS unit, EMF remediation, earthing, grounding technology, and negative ions.
1:21Darin Olien:That's right. It's in one pad. You've got it at your fingertips. You can turn this on. You can lay on it. You can meditate on it like I do every day, and this technology is a natural way for healing process to be created, to help reduce pain, reduce inflammation, to improve your overall immune function. TheraPro is safe, low EMF, and no weird flicker of the lights. It's in many sizes, small size as well as a big size, and I lay on this thing, my full body. It's fantastic. It's got a great travel case with a long power cord, super convenient. You can go to therisage.com and get 15 % off your order.
2:03Darin Olien:Just type in Darren, D-A-R-I-N, and magically, you get 15 % off. I'm super stoked for Therisage. I love their company. I love what they're doing, and you will too. Welcome back to the Super Life Podcast, where we dive into these systems today that shape our lives and for better or worse. Today's episode is different. This is a bit of an investigation into multiple systems. It's a special report as to what surrounds us and we're pulling back the curtain on systems we all depend on. Health systems, water, power, food, shelter, environment, and health care. All of these are systems that surround us.
2:52Darin Olien:What's going on? How are they failing us? And what can we do about them? Many of the systems are not just broken. They're actively failing us. But here's the good news. This is an exploration into what they are and what we can do about it. Laying the path forward. And it starts with you and me, actually. We don't have to be a victim of the systems. We can actually do something together. And the more of us that are aware of these systems, we can do something about collectively. So buckle up. We're going to dive in. Because this is one episode that could change how you see the world, the matrix.
3:38Darin Olien:It doesn't just have to be this way. We can do so much. First system we're going to dive into is health. Well, is it health or more accurately, is it a disease care system? You may have heard this term before. We live in a world where chronic illness is skyrocketing. Clearly, something is not working. Obesity, diabetes, autoimmune conditions, depression, all of these are on the rise. They're not stopping. They're not slowing down. And yet, the healthcare system focuses on managing symptoms, not restoring health. Why? Because this system profits more from sickness than from wellness. Fact. 90 % of the$4.1 trillion in annual U.S.
4:35Darin Olien:health costs go towards treating chronic disease. It's right out of the CDC. And again, just so you're aware, I'm not making any of this up. This is all in the data. And I have it in the show notes. But what's the solution? Start with the micro. Certainly, if you don't want to take responsibility for your life, then you will be in the system of disease care managing your symptoms. But I suspect that you listening today, you're not one of those people. But we certainly, all of us, can make more and more improvement. How you move and what kind of toxins you remove from your world largely will help you thwart the disease-ridden system.
5:28Darin Olien:But also from the macro perspective, we demand policies to change. How about we subsidize real food? Not poor, poor quality food. Subsidized corn, soy, these GMO crops, and then we feed that to the animals. And well over 90 % of the meat that is around in our world today, in the Western world, is full of toxins. full of antibiotics, full of resistant bacterias, and the list goes on. So what if we fund different subsidies of real food? What if we stop with food waste? What if we develop more cash available for preventative care and functional medicine to look at the whole picture of our body? There are some doors opening in today's world where people are starting to push back, and the doors are opening for more possibilities.
6:34Darin Olien:Water crisis. Poison or pure? So, clean water should be a foundational principle to life, because it is. We need water just like we need clean air. But guess what? Most tap water contains trace amounts of pharmaceutical drugs, PFAS, which are, you've heard me talk about before, pre - or profluoralkalized substances, a forever chemical getting lodged into the body. Also in the tap water, chlorine, fluoride, heavy metals, microplastics, and the list goes on. So over 250 contaminants detected in the U.S. tap water system, many above safe health guidelines, especially by independent studies of the Environmental Working Group.
7:29This is no good.
7:32Darin Olien:This needs to be better. But believe me, hold on. This is not just a bummer episode. I've got solutions for all of this that you can take action on today. So with water, we can invest in high-quality water filtration systems, reverse osmosis, and get rid of almost everything. I understand. If you have a clean water system of a river, of an aquifer, and all those things, certainly that's the gold standard but we're not living in that gold standard every square inch of this planet is affected by our modern day world we need to push for on a macro scale push for local water infrastructure upgrades funding for clean water is necessary and especially the underserved communities who don't have a couple hundred bucks to get an RO system.
8:41Darin Olien:These things should be a human right. Power systems. We are surrounded by dirty electricity versus what? We have clean sovereignty power today. Our energy system is built on fossil fuels which have a polluting effect in the environment. That is not rocket science. We know that. And this is subsidized and this continues to pollute. Can we just turn off the switch of that now and have enough power for everyone? No, but we need stronger and stronger regulations as we move to better and better systems. Clean energy tech is massively underfunded. I believe in capitalism done in the right way. I personally know of people today, friends of mine, that are working in the clean energy space that goes way beyond thermal, goes way beyond solar, goes way beyond wind turbines.
9:46Darin Olien:We do have the answers today. and that just needs to be supported and not thrust away or bought up and and shelved that's happened way too much in the last hundred years but what can we do listen a couple solar panels are pretty cheap and if you can get your pool pump if you have a pool if you can get your AC or your heating system on solar, at least part of your system, then investing in solar panels before these other energy technologies come online, that's a good investment. We can do those things to be more independent, more sovereign in our power systems. But we need investment into these areas and we need to demand these big conglomerates from PENG, from all of these systems that are built on the old systems of monopoly.
10:52Darin Olien:We need to break these things down into microgrids, infinitely better, infinitely more resilient. We are at victim right now to our power. Where is that power coming? Here in California, it's running through the oak trees, spread out all throughout California. Some wind systems hit that. Next thing you know, we have fires. It's not from normal situations. It's not from a lightning strike. Most of the fires in California start by way of a derelict power pole or power line. We need to keep that in mind. It's not always the environment that's causing some of these issues. It's what we are doing, the systems that we have in place.
11:42Darin Olien:The other segment, food. Nutrition or poison? What is the food that we are being exposed to? Super ultra processed food. Food that is no longer food. Listen, processing food is always happening. That's not necessarily bad. We process food all the time. We cook food. That's a process. We extrude legumes and nuts and seeds. And even the people who eat dairy, you extrude the casein. You extrude the milk proteins. You extrude the whey protein. Those are processes. Those aren't necessarily always bad. The problem is we're reconstructing food like a cookie or a Dorito that is just made up. These things are heavily commercialized, marketed, manipulated, obviously the dyes, all of these hyper palatable foods.
12:46Darin Olien:We need to stop subsidizing the food that's killing us. Ultra-processed food intake is linked to higher risks of obesity, cancer, premature death, and that is understood by BMJ and the Global Health Network. We know that. It's all over the studies. And yet, this system is harming us. Because we've subsidized cheap, horrible, nutrient-starved food, and our bodies recognize one thing. Nutrients. Are we getting it? No. But what can you do about it? Eat the best you can. Real, whole, local food. Organic if possible. Less and less ultra-processed food. And cook at home. Cooking at home makes one of the biggest difference in your dietary guidelines.
13:43Darin Olien:Know what you're putting in your food. Control the condiments. Control the salts, sugars, and fats so that you have a healthier outcome. It's good for you. It's good for your family. And it's good for the planet. Another poor system that I see is shelter, our homes. They are a place where they're supposed to be nurturing. They're supposed to protect us. But often, we're exposed to molds because of trapped airspaces, because of plumbing and heat and moisture, trapping that into what? Wood, soaked in formaldehyde. And we keep doing this stuff. We keep building the same way. It's 100 years old. We have materials and the advancements of material science where we do not need that exposure anymore.
14:39Darin Olien:No more volatile organic compounds in your environment. Flame retardants in your furniture, your couches, your mattresses. These are forever chemicals. They show up again and again. Indoor air quality is two to five times more polluting than outdoor air quality by the EPA. Personal improvement of air quality is something that you can do today. Natural materials. Get rid of the fragrances of candles and these plug-in devices that emit fragrances that you feel you think are fresh, but they're an assault on your olfactory, your central nervous system, and potentially your brain. This is no good. Reduce electromagnetic fields in your home.
15:28Darin Olien:Turn off your Wi-Fi routers at night. Don't put laptops on your laps or on your children. Download whatever you need to. Turn the signal off. And you can minimize the stress response of electromagnetic fields. This is in your home. And you can sleep without the Wi-Fi routers on. Turn your phones off. Put them on airplane mode. Shut those signals off. We have survived before the phone and we can survive and thrive not at the whim of this stress response that shows up all over in the research around EMFs and the advancements of 4G, 5G and who knows what else is happening. Healthcare, what is it for?
16:17Darin Olien:Trillions have spent but outcomes continue to occur. The WHO data, healthcare inefficiencies and inequality persist despite massive spend from the WHO itself. You can personally embrace functional and integrative medicine. I understand. It's more expensive. Save up your money. Get tests for you, your children. What are you deficient in? What are your allergies? These are the things that hopefully insurance will start to pay. But until then, we can start aligning ourselves with functional medical doctors, acupuncture, naturopaths that get a holistic view of our health and not just this siloed view of treating the symptoms.
17:13Darin Olien:Embrace these functional components of medicine. We need to push and push for policy changes, prioritize prevention and holistic care. We have given so much power and money to these systems that give us drugs and shots and pills. There's a place for all of that, but not for the lifestyle and support of our overall system. The environment is an absolute reflection of us. What's going on in the environment? Well, deforesting, certainly what we're doing inside of our microbiome, when we blast it with foods contained with antibiotics and other resistant strains of chemicals and PFAS, We're polluting the environment based on systems from creating plastics to creating clothing and dyeing processes.
18:12Darin Olien:And so much more is polluting to our environment. And the way we're growing food creates soil degradation. And once the soil goes, we go. Species extinction as a result of what we are doing. This is not open for discussion. We are at the lead cause of species extinction on our planet. I just watched the Ocean Ramsey shark documentary. Hundreds of millions of apex predator sharks are being killed because of overfishing, because of nets, and because of shark finning, because they think shark soup is good. This is insane. We are killing our ocean. We are killing these incredible predators. We know that apex predators balance the ecosystem.
19:08Darin Olien:We are deadening our seas. And that is leading to a destruction of us. One million species face extinction due to human activity. one million species that will no longer even exist on our watch what can you do always something personal consumption of conscious products conscious materials conscious clothing don't buy things that are don't don't buy things that are harming the environment to the best of your ability the reason i talk about this stuff up the reason i talk about this stuff is so that when you're out in the world your consciousness raises with more acuity your understanding of the world at large rather than living in a myopic closed down siloed life this is a lie this is an ego that we have we are so hell-bent on just wanting to live that we are destroying ourselves and the planet as a result how do we change the systems i believe this at my core we first take personal responsibility.
20:35Darin Olien:We take back our power. We create personal sovereignty. Taking back our health, taking back our strength, your food you can take back, your home you can take back, your water you can take back. You can become today the CEO of your health, end of your life. Community the action. Have this discussion. If you find something that's better for you, if you find a dental floss that's not full of plastics and PFAS, tell your friends, hey man, don't put PFAS in your mouth. You can use something else. Hey man, I found a great water filter. Hey man, I found a great glass bottle that I can use rather than plastic and take that around with you.
21:30Darin Olien:Take back your power. Integrate your life. You will feel better, not only from a health perspective, but from a soul perspective. I guarantee it. We need to push, of course, policy and advocacy. Your voice matters. Your dollars matter. Vote with both. Your voice and your dollars. New paradigms. Stop Stop waning for old systems to fix itself. Take back that now. Build from here.
22:13You are not powerless, no matter who you are.
22:17Darin Olien:We are the creators. But first, we must see the system. If we don't see it, we don't change anything. Then we must opt out of these systems that are harming us and the environment. And we opt in to the new one and start building one step at a time. Don't be overwhelmed. You can take one thing today and move it forward. It can become a habit. And that habit is better integrated in your health and the world. This is an invitation to live a super life. Not inside the broken machine, but outside of it, above it, and beyond it. I really appreciate your time today. Please share this episode. Please share this movement.
23:08Darin Olien:This is at the core of my heart, that I don't want to sit and have a system and just accept this world as it is. I don't need a politician. I don't need to scroll on social media. I know what's right and I know that you know what's right. Be aware. Be sovereign. Be in your power. All of the research is in the show notes. Before I sign off here today, I want to share something that's coming. That's right. I am sick of certain things on social media. I'm still going to be on social media, but I'm going to jump to something where I can really dive into and share in a way that I haven't been able or even willing to share because it hasn't been a great space to share it.
23:55Darin Olien:I'm building a super life community on Patreon for people like you that don't want to be a victim or bitter complainers stuck in the cycle of blame. But instead, you want to build something. You want to create something. You want to create your world. your solutions this is a space for solution focused humans like i know you are not a bunch of karens complaining seriously if you find yourself complaining switch to solutions it's going to be better for you in that moment because that doesn't help you complaining does not help So for you, the warriors of truth, of health, of freedom, and sovereignty, if you are ready to step forward into action, into transformation, into a collective uplift, then join us.
24:58Darin Olien:Join me. Together, let's co-create this new paradigm. This Patreon is not ready yet, but I want you to sign up now for my newsletter. just put your email in so we have it. And so when we are ready and it's coming soon, you'll be the first to get access to what we are building at Super Life. I'm stoked for you. I hold the beacon of light and power and sovereignty. And that is why I'm here. I love you and keep shining your light, please. because life is better as a result of you in it peace
