In short
Arsenal transfer talk amid “Vinicius Jr” rumors, plus a detailed review of Arsenal’s preseason friendly vs Girona and discussion of young players’ roles.
Guest backgrounds
Tim is described as having close ties and extensive career experience in Brazilian football (and provides a 2017 tweet prediction about Vinicius Jr). Paul (Paz) is a regular co-host/commentator. Elitza Fintiqa Blackman and Jerry Engenner are also present, with Bruno Guimaraes/Vinicius and Max Dowman/academy focus.
Key claims
Vinicius Jr stereotypes as a “delicate prima donna” are rejected; his work-rate depends on tactical role and opponents. Arsenal’s transfer pace feels slow due to social-media “non-updates.” Roc Nation is suggested to steer the Vinicius negotiation. If Vinicius moves, the hosts expect it to be Arsenal (Bruno Guimaraes could help).
Notable examples
Tim cites a 2017 tweet comparing Vinicius to a “Norwegian kid” Real Madrid bought. In the Girona game, Max Dowman (16) is called the standout, with an assist to Kai Havertz. Havertz and Ethan are discussed as tactical “8s” (Ethan doing Odegaard-like pressing/positioning).

0:46It's Rice What a goal! Declan Rice With an absolute rocket With a free kick Arsenal League 1-0 He's cut inside Saka! Sublime finish He's back with a bang I know everybody's excited about it. I know everybody's starting to get carried away. But it's okay. When something this exciting is happening to your club, you should get carried away. Max Daumann is here. This is the Arsenal Vision Podcast. My name is Elitza Fintiqa Blackman. I'm Jerry Engenner. Hello, everybody. That's right. Vinny? Vinicius? Bah. Bah, humbug. Bruno Giemreich. Bah, humbug. We only need one player. What is it? the realm recognizes one king and he is the king from the academy and his name is downman it look i watched game of thrones but i didn't commit it to memory point is we've got max downman we've got super maxi downman he knows exactly what we need uh he's special we're going to talk about an actual game of football that arsenal played and then i'm going to hop on a plane i'm going to go to dublin and watch arsenal play football and also do an event i'm looking forward to that very very much because i'm going to see a man who is here with me now and his name is tim hello tim hello Hello there.
1:57I'm looking forward to seeing you. Yeah, me too. Me too. I haven't been to Dublin for 14 years, so looking forward to going back. Very, very good. Well, you are going to get to see one of the finest players in all of world football. And his name is Max Dowman. And here, a man originally from the land I'm headed to, but not heading there and filled with raging jealousy, is Paul. Hello, Paz. Woo-hoo. Yeah. Thanks, lads. Keep rubbing it in. It doesn't hurt. Will do. Yeah, will do. As much as possible. So we had our first instant reaction. of the quote-unquote new season yesterday. Really enjoyed that.
2:29I got all the rust out, said a lot of silly stuff. So start as you mean to go on. We will have an instant reaction for the game on Wednesday, which is exciting and maybe more to bring you as a Bruno Guimaraes or Vinny Jr. saga continues. We did our first ever instant reaction, but also it meant first ever time for people to be able to go on the app and actually give their stocks rising and stocks falling, and you'll be able to follow that all season long. We'll reset it after preseason, though, of course, so that we have the actual raw season stuff. As soon as the new app update goes out, by the way, you will be able to pull in not only your Patreon audio stuff, but the video content too.
3:05That update is ready. It's just waiting for Apple to approve it. Google is, of course, still asleep at the wheel doing apparently nothing, certainly not approving our app, but those will come. Apple Watch support, Android Wear OS watch support, whatever it's called, part of this update. So tons and tons of cool stuff. Thanks for using that. And if you want to go in and see what people voted for stock rising and stock falling, you can do that. the apps in the ios store and hopefully maybe even by the time you listen to this into the android store okay uh enough of the nonsense let's get right into it tim i do want to do one thing though even though i want to talk primarily about the game today because how much stuff can you say about transfers i don't think by sort of quirk of the schedule that we've talked really on mic since the vinny stuff started to come out so i think given your close ties with brazil football your extensive career in Brazilian football.
3:55We should get your take on this. What's your reaction to the link? Anything that you want to add that you think might be sort of an interesting wrinkle or an interesting commentary about the pursuit of Vinny Jr. and the quality of the player? Yeah, there's two things. First of all, I'm going to read you out a tweet from 2017 when I was writing about Brazilian football. and this is roughly the time that uh vinicius jr was breaking through at flamengo or no sorry i'd seen him break through at flamengo and um he he was linked with real madrid and i tweeted to lewis ambrose on the 25th of october 2017 vinicius jr is going to be exactly like that norwegian kid they bought so um i think you can say great long-range commentary vinicius junior will hook up with that norwegian kid they bought um so fantastic prediction um yeah this was a player i didn't i i saw and didn't see that's incredible by the way like that i gotta stop you for a second like you got if we sign vinnie jr you've got to get that tweet back out in front of everybody and say he he did indeed link up with that norwegian kid yeah yeah um so when he came through at flamengo i couldn't see the fuss to be honest and uh real madrid were a point where they were a bit butthurt on missing out on neymar and a little bit on gabriel jesus as well they wanted him everyone wanted him when he went to man city and they were kind of going through this we have to have the next brazilian wonder kid because we've missed the last two and they were just signing any Brazilian young player and I got a bit caught up and thought that that's what they're doing here um fair to say I quickly revised that opinion um there's a couple of things I think stuff I'm not going to add that's insightful about him like he is exactly what we need like he is the name we keep mentioning but we keep saying kind of like someone like Vinicius Jr.
5:57yeah exactly whereas like um with zollis for example it's like we put stuff into the spreadsheet about trossard and we were like give us 24 year old trossard who sleeps eight hours a night and it came out with zollis and we've probably tried to do something like that with venetius jr and um and it's like can we get someone like venetius jr and you put it all in the spreadsheet and it just says venetius jr that's the only player it's a bit like um uh that simpsons episode where smithers goes on holiday and he wants someone really incompetent to take his job and he's like right i'm gonna look through the employee database for the most incompetent oh screw it i'll just get homer simpson it's kind of like the opposite of that yeah um so i think first of all the the i guess the inside i'll add i've read a lot of stuff i just really don't agree with about first of all who and what vinicius chunier is in terms of i think there's a lot of like stereotyping that because he's a star player he's a massive prima donna who doesn't lift a finger i don't think that's true at all i'm not i'm not going to tell you he's like the most industrious at chasing back but like i don't think he's bad at that at all if you look at his kind of data you watch how he what he plays against like barcelona big champions league games with brazil he does that stuff he doesn't do it against like the team that finishes 18th in spain and i think it's because he's not asked to because what most managers do when they've got a player like that in the final third they don't want them chasing back at left back they want them high up the pitch right when they've got a proper killer and arsenal haven't really ever had that under arteta so first of all I think there's a lot of stereotypes about Vinicius being this like delicate flower and I don't think he really is also I think there's a lot of it's where like the memification of football analysis really annoys me there's a lot of stuff about will Arteta like uh tolerate this Arteta played a Bamiang on the left wing and then gave him a new contract like I think Arteta is no different to any other elite coach when you have elite attacking talent you you let it play in attacking areas like you know how Liverpool played under Klopp was Mo Salah pressing like Firmino no he was not was he like really chasing back with Trent Alexander-Arnold no he was not and that's not because Jurgen Klopp wouldn't usually demand that it's just I want this guy like that's the pragmatic choice keep this guy high up the pitch so I've got no doubts that Arteta will have absolutely no misgivings if we were to get this player about that and I don't think this player is would be the the delicate little prima donna flower that everyone seems to has cast him as I think there's a lot of misapprehensions around this that's that's the insight I'd try to add I think I like that I appreciate that and I think that is helpful so I think we can mostly leave it there because I do want to get to the football but I will simply do the audio version of what our transfer rumor section yeah does which is give you the latest as I understand it, which is essentially that Roc Nation is really steering a lot of what happens here.
9:15And like any major star player, he's got major star representation. They are stars, not just in terms of the sports and football world, but obviously the music world as well. These are big personalities on the Real Madrid side, on the Vinny side, and it will be a complex negotiation. And Arsenal are doing the right thing being in for this player. Pulling off a deal like this is complicated so we have to do the hardest thing in the world which is be a bit patient I think we all agree that if we don't get Vinny it doesn't obviate the need to go get somebody and so I'm sure the club will have those plans in place but I think most of us would also agree that we're entirely behind the club trying to see if they can make this happen I'd much rather have Vinny than the compromise left winger that we went for because this is hard to be the biggest club you do the hard things yeah go ahead madrid do themselves elliot how long did they go after mbappe before they got him that was like three summers i'm not suggesting we necessarily do that but you know like these deals are hard and they're hard for everyone yeah that's exactly right um and on the bruno thing by the way there's a lot of mixed reporting it feels like the newcastle reporters are reporting what they prefer to believe is true um on what bids have been made and what bids have been rejected my expectation is that this will happen and actually my expectation is that if this happens, it helps the Vinny thing happen.
10:33Look, I believe if Vinny moves, it'll be to Arsenal. I don't believe Real Madrid will flinch on what they've offered Vinny. But I still think if you're Vinny Jr. and you're at Real Madrid, it's the dream club, it's the biggest club in the world, it's safe, it's comfortable, you play four important league games a season, you play in the Champions League, and then you're all fit and ready to go for Brazil. Or you go to London and you play a grueling calendar of really difficult games all season long, trying to win the biggest league in the world, trying to do that while trying to win the Champions League in a new city with a new team.
11:07It's hard. So if there's any reason we don't get him, I ultimately think it might just be that he opts to do the thing that's familiar and stay at Madrid. But if he moves, I think it'll be to Arsenal. And I actually think Bruno coming to Arsenal will help make that a little bit easier for him. So we'll see how it all plays out. I would like to talk about the preseason game because fundamentally there's just a lot of talk about these rumors. And Tim, I actually think you put the tweet out that is the most astute observation about our emotions around transfers. So I'm going to co-opt that expert explanation of yours and make it my own, which is simply the reason it feels like Arsenal are slow at transfers is because with these transfers, we get so many non-updates that make us feel like something's happening and it should be done by now that we forget three days went by.
12:00And this is a hundred and some odd million pound transaction. Three days. How many hundred and some odd million pound transactions get done in three days? They don't. Zubamendi deal, we did it a year in advance essentially, right? So the simple fact that there were 480 tweets about it since I started this podcast doesn't mean Arsenal are doing nothing. It is crazy if you find yourself at 8 a.m. in the morning thinking, oh, we're doing the work. And by 4 p.m. in the afternoon, you're like, why aren't we doing anything that's because that's what social media is making you feel so tim i thought that was a really good observation it's also worth saying i've been doing like gearing up for the season looking into uh across the premier league this is not uncommon at all there's so there's so much stuff where it's like for the last few weeks like leads have been in negotiations with james trafford or whatever right that story is like a week old now but we saw it the first time and the next time we'll see it he'll be holding up the shirt but there'll be like two weeks between those two things where there's like a hundred updates but we're not looking at them yeah yeah exactly right okay um paul do you have do you have any quick comments you want to make about those two transfer sagas before we talk about some football and and some actual arteta comments and things like that i mean mckel there there's video of mckel smirking when he was asked about vinnie jr and there's all the you know and you could read that smirk as he's laughing it off as silly you could read that smirk as he knows it's happening he certainly talked about our need to be ambitious and aggressive in the market but do you have any comments before we move on to the to the actual football itself only that and i think it relates to the actual football itself um we've done a lot of stuff in the in the last few years and by comparison you're looking at other teams who need to fix a lot of stuff so they look super busy in the window and if you look at the reporting this is where it pivots to the game we just watched if you look at the reporting on the various other teams in their games it's all about oh xabi alonso's he's playing with the four but would it be a three and you know where is this player going to play where's that going to play and the same with liverpool right uh areola and how he's adjusting and he looks like he'll go with the same system but who's he going to use and you look at ours and it's like yep, Arsenal playing the way they play with positions for the most part of players where they play.
14:21We were like a well-oiled machine. It was like the first game, back to the pancake theory, right? Oh, great, a new season. The first pancake, even in preseason, you don't even put it on a plate. You just take it straight from the frying pan and put it in the bin. You don't even check it, right? And this was an actual pretty good game to watch with pretty good football, like asterisks all over it in terms of who we played and it being the first preseason and who we had available in the first half versus the second half and making changes every 33 minutes. but this was good football we were after about seven or eight minutes of ring rust it was good football that was fun to watch that allowed players to highlight themselves and feel good about themselves and you see that is not what you see when you so when people are getting upset about transfers I think there's a different context with Arsenal we need the right pieces and we don't need a lot of them.
15:24Yeah, you get tired of saying it, but when you won the Premier League and made it to the Champions League final and been at that level roughly for four years, the caliber of player and the number of players that can actually improve you is small. And some of those players are already in your group. And I'll stay with you, Paul. I mean, just from a 30 ,000 foot view, if you had to say my biggest takeaway from seeing Arsenal play again, apart from, oh yeah, we're pretty good. We look pretty good. Is it Max Dowman? I mean, like, he is still 16. It feels like he's been 16 for three years, but he's still only 16.
16:02And you could make that argument. He was the best player on the pitch. And I'm not going to sit here and pretend he's a nailed on starter and he's ready to lead this team to glory. But like, you can't ignore what your eyes are showing you. And it's showing you a player who effortlessly slots into the level and with the group, the assist he has for Kai. You'd think they're just two first-team players who have been playing together for five years. He takes the ball on the half turn in a crowd, uses his power to get away, turns out, makes the smart early pass into Kai to set him away. The kind of thing that looks easy when it's executed as well as he did.
16:36For me, he's a clear takeaway from that game. Yeah, yeah, all that. He got a nice solid 60 minutes. he made his mistakes in the first five or six minutes and then everything after that was like max down and stuff and drifting into midfield into that right eight channel so yeah he was the takeaway you know the stuff to say about solace kai havertz miles lewis skelly they all popped for me in this game which is very early in pre-season for you to say yeah that you often see like players who like shine but it feels super pre-season these guys were doing what you know they can do and max damon just kind of lit it up i mean he was he was the most exciting uh most dangerous player on the pitch they knew it we knew it and he's absolutely fecking great and i don't think you know i saw a lot of discussion about what his season this season might be like and stuff i don't think he has the patience to sit out another season as arsenal you know look at it last season he watches us uh win the league go to the the final the champions league like hopefully we have that season and better this this season i don't think he's gonna want to be sitting on the sidelines watching it playing one or two important games for us.
18:02I think this is a season he begins to come to the fore, and we ain't going to send him anywhere else. So I think we're going to get to see quite a bit more Max Daman this season. Again, carefully managed, because we're like the champs. Well, we're not like the champs. We are the champs. And Tim's going to let every team in the league know it as he travels the country. Politely. Politely. And so we got players on the pitch already that Max has to compete with, but he will start to get his luck-ins. This is why it's really hard to have everything you want as a supporter and you have to start to make reasonable demands of your club.
18:45because on the one hand, having Nani Madweke at the club, bringing Bruno Guimaraish into the club, keeping Ethan Winery at the club, all things that people seem to feel as good, smart things we had to do, makes it harder for Max to have time to get on the pitch and play. It's also part of the reason we won the title and we will go on to defend the title and go on and win the Champions League if we get Bruno Guimaraish and keep Ethan and Adveney, right? But every time you do that, you just make it more complicated that a player like Max finds his time on the pitch. You could convince me that had we not signed Nani Meduake and just let Max Daumann and Ethan Wernary play right wing and play more last season, we still win the title and we have a more developed Max Daumann and Ethan Wernary.
19:28But you know what? You take that gamble and you fail, you don't have a title. You don't have a title. And so these are the hard things you have to balance. How important is it to you that Arsenal win? And how important is it to you that Arsenal win with Max Daumann playing? And can you square that circle? And Tim, I think this season that comes into high relief because for me, I am comfortable. I know if Clive were here, he'd be telling me to settle down. I am comfortable getting over my ski tips. I am comfortable saying I think this is a generational talent of a player. And if we can integrate this player, even at just 16 and soon to be 17 years old in December, not even soon, I think that he makes us better in a way that very few players can because of his extraordinary talent with the last action, the ball that creates a goal or the ability to score a goal, both of which he did in this game, plus a penalty he could have won.
20:16So is there an interesting thing here that will develop, especially with Max getting a lot of preseason time that some other more established players won't get coming back from the World Cup to say, boss, I know we got a lot of senior experienced players here. I'm as good as them. You got to play me. Yeah, definitely. Like he's in line to start the Coventry game, isn't he? Because Sakura Madueke aren't going to be there. and so and would you begrudge that would you have a problem with it I mean that's the risk you take yeah not at all and you know you start to think about what are the other options like Martinelli moving over to the right Gabriel Jesus I I wouldn't start those over Max at the moment so there's definitely that part to it and we'd said this before it's the same for Miles it's the same for Ethan they've got a big opportunity this pre-season because they're going to play most of it and that has counted for a lot in the past, let me tell you.
21:112004, we had Euro 2004, Vieira was away, Edu and Gilberto were at Copa America, Fabregas comes through and he never comes out the team again. 2008 as well, something very similar. Sorry, no, World Cup 2010, something very similar. Fabregas is away, Jack Wilshere gets the whole pre-season, he doesn't come out the team until he's injured. and then you had what 2022 um tommy asu gets injured saliba comes in ben white goes to right back that's meant to be a temporary arrangement it it's still the arrangement now pretty much when everyone's fit so these these things really really do matter um that sense of momentum really does matter and i i don't want to overstate it because i'm not i'm not saying i necessarily expect this to happen but you could convince me that Max Dalman starts the first couple of games because he's the best choice available and it takes quite a lot to dislodge him um quite frankly and and that could be indefinite it could like he's I do think he's that good not saying I necessarily think it will be or expect it to be but if you came back from like the future 12 months time and told me that happened i'd believe you quite frankly so that that's that's a massive massive part of it um for me i think also with with max like there are potentially other positions he can play as well um that that assist for the havert's goal that's that's urdegaard's position right that's where urdegaard receives the ball interesting though he started off the right and still wound up in that position in that phase of play so yeah absolutely and you know yeah so so i think i think there are kind of there are several angles to this um to be honest and and this this is you know pre-season has tears right and like this is the first game so it's really just fitness and then as you get closer to the season more people get reintroduced and all of that then yeah it gets more and more serious but for young players the serious stuff starts straight away basically those those like ethan miles the the three academy kids the serious stuff is now right that starts straight away for them because they're they're things are up in the air for them as to their their kind of um their role next season and uh and like the kind of um the size of that role i think in an absolute and you can see it tim and how fit and firing they are at solace too right they're they're ready to go because the point you just made they can get in the team and to some degree stay in the team if they're smart yeah exactly whereas some of the bigger more established players they know roughly what's going to happen and they're just playing for fitness i think the ideal thing that will happen out of this situation is that in 12 months time and this is no disrespect to the guy at all in 12 months time we sell non-imaru eke maybe for even more than we bought him for we say thank you very much great two years you've helped us with with bakaya osaka but max is here now we got to make some room and that's potentially a good sale you do that's that's that's almost like a chelsea style thing to do actually to buy someone for two years and say actually we've got the younger model now see you later and sell them a bit of a profit I think that that would be a really healthy outcome, actually.
24:42It's such a tough one for me because there's a part of me that totally agrees with you. There's a part of me that says it's not going to be right wing where he makes someone obsolete. It's going to be midfield. But then that raises the specter of what Ethan's future is. Mikel had some interesting comments on both of them. On Max, he said, quote, that's what we want when you play for Arsenal. Expectations should be high and should be expecting really good things. We know what he's capable of doing. We want to be more consistent in terms of performance and the actions that he can deliver. I think today he had a really good game.
25:13Before I get to the Ethan part of that, Paz, what strikes me is, gone is the language of we have to be patient, we have to acknowledge how young he is. You know, normally when you talk about a 16-year-old, you're going to hear a lot of caveats about the importance of patience and being careful and not getting ahead of ourselves. Those quotes are the quotes of a player that's just part of the group. You know what I mean, Paul? I don't think that there's any sense from Mikel here that he's going to talk about this guy like he talks about other academy players. He's talking about him like he's an Arsenal player.
25:48Yeah, there isn't this emotional couching around him and around us about our expectations of him. And there's a bit of video of Mikel putting his arm around him after he takes him off, but not a kind of a let me make him feel good. It was like, let me tell you the things that you need to work on, the tactical things that were out on the pitch, because you go again, and then you go again. And I think from here, you can't take him back from it now and say, okay, well, you had an exciting preseason feeling part of it. Now go chill on the bench. He's going to find ways to have him involved. We play something like 60 games in a season, all things going well.
26:37And I don't think he can keep him too far from the team in the early part of the season, waiting for kind of gaps or injuries to give him his chance. He's got to get him involved. He's got to make him feel involved. And I think the emotional line that he's spinning out there in terms of his involvement and his expectations, say uh he's not saying chill at everybody you know he's only a kid growing into his body remember all that stuff a year or two ago that's not the messaging yeah yeah look we will be talking about max more this preseason i imagine i'm very excited to see him in dublin so that that will carry on fundamentally though you watch him play and it doesn't look like a 16 year old trying to fit in He just looks like the player that the other players want to give the ball to because they know he's going to do something great with it.
27:31Yeah, Tim? Yeah, that's one of the – so I should say – I don't have to, but I will. The whole streaming situation on Arsenal.com, come on, guys. Don't charge for a stream and don't provide it. And we're 48 hours later and there's still no word on a refund for people who paid for it. That's piss poor. Would you give up that refund for Vinny if it's in the video? Sort that out, okay? yeah yeah it goes out saying um anyway and i will just say kudos to them for pivoting and making it free at halftime but still the first half is when all the the players you know when you wanted to see played it's our first look at those players yeah you gotta you gotta sort something out there obviously and refunds should be coming or some port because the the payment was for the bundle of all the pre-season games well you could pay for them individually i paid for it individually because i'm gonna get at the other pre-season yeah i didn't know that so they got extra money from me but you cannot they could refund the single game buyers or a percentage of the bundle buyers yes yeah anyway but i did watch the first half um this morning and you know to paul's point about oh this looks like arsenal again after watching a bit of world cup and and all of that it's like oh this just looks like arsenal again even though it's not the exact same cast and the other thing that looked really familiar was just passing the ball to the right wing all the time it's it's just it's usually Saka standing there but this time it's Max Dalman and whether that's I I assume it's probably both things whether that's just a muscle memory because we build on the right so much or whether that's because it's Max Dalman I'm going to say it's both things but that was a thing that looked really familiar it just we were playing like it was Bakayo Saka out there can I ask you just quickly Tim because this is our first look at the team obviously of a very young preseason they haven't had a lot of time together but some of these guys that were out there have have been trained together for a while did you spot anything that you thought was a tweak system wise or that we were trying i mean it's really hard to say because it's such an unusual lineup and the the interesting thing is jorona were on their fourth preseason game so they should have been well ahead of us physically they were massively outmatched they got relegated from la liga last season so that gives you their level but still uh we blew them off the park and i'm just wondering if you saw any kind of tweaks or any adjustments that that looked new or different to you.
29:45Yeah, and a lot of recognizable names, actually, in the Drona team. Donny van der Beek, for example. Gazzaniga, the goalkeeper, he was at Spurs. Kiel was Kiel? Yeah, I mean, they were both at Spurs, so they're obviously rubbish. I think system-wise, no, they wouldn't have had a chance to do that. But one thing, I mean, first of all, another thing that just struck me, and this isn't different, it's just how many left-footers we have. like we played an entirely left-footed midfield three um you know left-footed center back left footed left back we have more left footers out there than right footers but um the the feature I really liked was Lewis Skelly just having that cross field passing I really liked that I don't feel like I've seen that much from hit from him either I've seen him as a very lateral passer but he was really getting his head up and switching play and I think that's maybe something Arsenal don't quite do well enough and something that they're looking maybe for someone like Bruno Guimaraes to do as well to really hit those flanks particularly that right flank a little bit more quickly perhaps rather than taking three passes to get to Saka getting to it or Delman getting to him in one England did it a fair bit in the World Cup actually and actually so did Spain if you look at the way Spain played with Yamal they were hitting him constantly from that kind of left centre midfield spot.
31:10So that was a little feature. Systemically, there wasn't much different, though, I don't think. Paul? So, like, in terms of, I don't know if I'd call it a tweak, but it's not something we've seen a lot of. And it's what we did with, if you like, our two eights, with Havertz and with Ethan. And Ethan basically played like Odegaard, and I know a lot of people wanted more from Ethan, but I thought it was solid enough. It was certainly a passing imitation of what the right eight should do. And then Havertz was the left eight. And when it was out of possession, we had the 4-4-2 kind of shape in place.
31:49It was Havertz who sat in beside Maslow Eskely and Ethan, who was doing the Odegaard thing. But when we were kind of attacking in possession, Havertz was like a second striker alongside Gjokeres, which is the thing you could see going forward. Like, how do you get Jaak? I don't think Jaak Ores is going to spend most of the season on the bench. I think there's a strong chance Arteta starts him a lot. So then how do you get Havertz in the team? And maybe this is one of the ways. I mean, you then got to count back. Like, you then get into, okay, well, if Havertz is one of the midfields and you got Declan Rice on the pitch, you've only got one more midfielder to get in, like, 107 players.
32:30It's like, who'd be a manager? Well, that's a great problem to have. but it will be a problem to have but that that was the interesting tweak for me we had ethan doing all the running in terms of the pressing like odegaard would in the front two when it was jacoresh and somebody it was jacoresh and ethan doing all the pressing and havertz but then that allowed havertz to run from a little deeper to be the kind of the run for towards the box and we saw that multiple times it worked really nicely okay against girona in the first preseason but But you saw a very dynamic Havertz popping up right next to Jokeres and those two finding patterns that work for them, even though it was generally Havertz who was shining with it.
33:11Yeah, it's an interesting one. I mean, you can do some interesting things if you play Havertz with Jokeres in terms of pushing almost like two together. And then a Saka, or in this case a Max, can be more of an inside-wide player. They can come more into the midfield. You overlap the right back to hold the width there. Then you let Solas hold the width on the left-hand side and Calafiore is more of an interior. It sort of shifts everything a little bit, but I think it creates a really interesting way to get more players into the attacking zone, but also get more players close together in the middle part, right?
33:46So that Kai and Yolkres are closer together. Saka or Max is closer to an Odegaard or an Ethan or a, you know, an Eneza who's closer to a Rice or a Bruno, whatever, right? And Calafiore. We need to improve our combination play. We need to improve our central occupation. And that's one way you could get there, I think. And if you look at the Havertz goal in particular, right, with Max pulling into a central spot, wriggling free, the very clever pass. He's got Jankeres to his right as Havertz is streaming through. And he got Zalas to the left. I mean, it's almost picture perfect of the kind of situation you're looking to create from a runner from midfield, kind of from mid-midfield running through to the box and past their defensive line.
34:33It was a thing of beauty. And it creates really nice... See, I like when the distances are small and the attacking areas and you get combinations. So there was a move, and actually we'll get to Solis in a minute because I think he's important to discuss. It's a beautiful move where Solis, I think his worst moment of the game is when he didn't shoot and instead tried to cut it back. He should have shot. He was in. But if you look at how that happens, Ethan plays a really nice dagger ball in the Calafiore who almost like... It's almost like a dummy or a back kill, but there's two guys very close together, and Solis just running past, and the defenders have no idea who to track.
35:04And I don't think we've done that enough in attack, where there's a good trio of players in a similar area creating confusion about the defenders to track a run, and Solis runs really intelligently. She cuts it back, and I get it, right? You're new to the team. You're in. Let's set up Yoko Ress and make a friend. Just take the shot. All right, I want to talk about Solis. I would love to talk a little bit too about Ethan, about Marley Salmon maybe, who I think popped. Aoife Ibrahim, who I know Clive's excited about. But let's talk brands. Let's talk brands really quickly. I'm going to do this quickly because we've got a lot to cover about this game.

38:43That was annoying. I don't want to take my phone apart. I don't want to lose that piece. I don't have to buy a new phone. Well, with Sale, you just put an app on your phone. 39:41But I look at my notes and I see Ethan, great ball out of midfield to Calafiore. Solis' goal comes from Ethan with a great ball out of midfield. The Solis move where he doesn't shoot and should shoot comes from Ethan with a beautiful ball into Calafiore. The interesting thing is Ethan didn't necessarily catch the eye as much as usual with his shots and dribbles, but I thought it was a more accomplished midfield performance. And quickly from Mikel Arteta on Ethan, he said, on the pitch on his coming season, he said, on the pitch he didn't because a lot happened in Marseille. But when you just stand in front of him, you sense the maturity and he looks like a different man.
40:21The experience on paper, it wasn't ideal, but I think he went through something that is going to help him a lot in his career. I saw a more mature Ethan performance in my mind. And Ethan that did more midfield stuff instead of just trying to be a winger playing in midfield. But your mileage may vary. You have any thoughts on that, on Mikel's comments? And a player who I worry, despite his elite talent, could be in that departure zone if we're not careful. Yeah, yeah. I think that is interesting. I think, too, that, look, in an ideal world, he'd have played and he'd have played really well at Marseille.
40:56That would have been the ideal loan. But it doesn't have to be. Like, do you remember Serge Gnabry's loan to West Brom? Oh. Was very, very difficult. didn't play very much and it's weird that we thought tony pulis uh would be a good fit for him but you know do you know what i remember at the time because he wasn't playing and it got to the january window and arson wenger was asked about calling him back and he said no i think this is a good challenge for him to go through and he's probably been born out in that now it probably cost him the player at arsenal but the career has has pretty much matched up so So a bad loan spell can be a good loan spell.
41:37Hector Bellerin went on loan to Watford and he came back early because they were playing him on the left. And so these experiences can be okay. I must admit, I thought he was good. I'm with you. I thought he was relatively mature. He actually had a little bit of that. I guess because we're constantly mapping onto what we know. I was thinking more Eza than Erdegaard in that role, which is fine by the way he doesn't have to play exactly like Erdegaard just because he happens to be left-footed I just I just can't help but think when I see the the the goal which perfectly exemplifies first of all something Clive said a couple of weeks ago where we build from the right finish on the left and I can see Mikel Marino making that run by the way that Havertz makes and Paul to your point by the time Havertz receives the ball if you just looked at that screen grab it would look like they were playing as a front two they're completely parallel I just can't help but think that should have been Ethan's moment if that makes sense you know Miles punches the ball like through the lines and then um you know like it should be Ethan that's turning and playing that through ball I I know it's like I'm not criticizing him for that not not being him but you know what I mean like it feels like I guess I've still got in my mind I thought he was good but I don't think he caught the eye quite as much as Miles or as Max and with Saka to come back I thought his performance was absolutely fine I thought it was good I imagine that Arsenal are holding on until they decide what to do with him not least because there are still players to come back and we probably need him in pre-season we probably even need him certainly for the match day squad for the first game I wouldn't mind betting that they'll send him out on loan again I just can't help but look at it through the long-term lens of is there space for Saka, Dalman and Ethan on top of everyone else I'm not sure there is I'm just not sure that there is room for all three of those players to come through and if I'm looking at this game I'm kind of I'm yeah I guess I've been Dalman pilled to be honest and like Ethan feels like he's passed it you know that's it old uninteresting wave of the future is here um but he was decent i'm with you he was like he was he was pretty mature but like he didn't he didn't really grab my eye are you on mute elliot
44:13i am indeed this must be oh hang on hang on let's let's let's savor the moment let's saute it Baskin it, Baskin it, Paul. This must be what it was like for my dog, Waffles, who we had for three months before we got my dog, Moose. Waffles is the cute little puppy. And then we get the golden retriever puppy, the cream golden retriever puppy. And it was like, Waffles, go away. You're not cute anymore. It's like, that's what it must be like. Look. The older they get, the cuter they ain't. Yeah, well, and that's more true for some of us than others. You have to be intellectually honest. You can't want Max to have a path and want Arsenal to sign Bruno Guimaraes and want us to bring in Vinny Jr.
44:54and want us to maybe go for a Julian Alvarez and all these things you want us to do. And also want us to have playing time for Ethan Winery and keep him and not sell him. Somewhere along the lines, you've got to decide what you're willing to sacrifice to make other things happen. Opportunity cost is one of the most poorly applied concepts for football fans because we want it all. When you buy a Nani Medueke, there's an opportunity cost for someone who can't get minutes. When you buy a Bruno Gamer Rice, there's an opportunity cost for someone who gets fewer minutes. And I know the response people will scream at me is, did you not just see the last few seasons when injuries meant that we had to play?
45:27I get it. I get it. But the idea that you're going to be five deep at every position and that every player is going to be satisfied with that doesn't work. And, you know, that's why we wound up sending Ethan to the worst possible place imaginable by accident last season. We don't want that again. I would love Ethan to go on loan and stay at Arsenal because I think his talent is such that it would be really a shame to lose him. I believe that this player is being overlooked because of Max's stardom, but was considered not far off that level not very long ago. So, Paul, he's still so young for a midfield role.
46:03He still has such prodigious talent. I would like him to be an Arsenal player. I just think the absolute logjam of talent that we're going to have in midfield going into this season means that we have to find a way to make sure he doesn't stall out, get overlooked, or worse yet, I think get sold somewhere we don't want him to go, if that makes sense. No doorbell music for you, Tim. Just go answer your doorbell if you need to. What do you think, Paul? Yeah, I agree with everything said. As you'll know from the instant reaction, I was not consensus in my view on Ethan at the time, because I think we had been Max Damon pilled in that first game.
46:43Yeah, and let me just, for people who don't understand what you're saying, let me just say that Wernary, our number one stock falling from the users of the app was the Arsenal IT department at 58%, understandably. Come on, Arsenal, do the right thing. But number two at 13 % was Wernary. Now, that's just 13%, but that was number two of 900 votes was Wernary coming in as second stock falling. I didn't see it that way either, but I just figured I'd give that context since you referenced it. And my stock falling was everybody who picked Ethan as their stock falling. Fair enough, yeah. Because that's very me.
47:14Because that's what you do. Because that's what I do. Not because I thought he was a mild stock rising. I'd love a performance in which he lit it up and he banged in two from 35 yards. But I was actually in the mood to see Ethan just do the job solidly with a bit of presence, a bit of physicality in midfield. and that's what I thought I got from him. He had a couple of really smart, clever passes, but mostly it was him doing the job without lighting it up, and I'm okay with that because that's most games. Most games you don't get to max down in it unless you're max down. So I thought this was kind of solid, and he was doing a very Odegaard pattern.
47:58He was at right eighth, and he was dropping in alongside Miles, and I know some people don't like that, but that's kind of a job in the team, and he reliably did it. He was physical. He was zipping into challenges. Nice slight tackle here and there. He was doing the pressing, not as aggressively as Odegaard would, but still aggressive enough. And yeah, I agree. There isn't room for all of these guys. But if you were to say that Ethan kicks on over the next couple of years and Max kicks on and they're both want to play kind of right-eight-ish, two guys for one position in two or three years time after we've found a way to keep Ethan on board get him a good loan in the Premier League now he can be more based on what I saw yesterday small snapshot he could play in a physical Premier League team and grow this season and we do that for another season or so and then he's part of like I'm I want to keep all these guys I love Odegaard.
49:01I love Miles Lewis-Skelly. Everybody loves Max. I love Ethan. I want to see them all kick on. And maybe there's a path for most of them. And we'll let other people make the tough decisions. But you could have two players for one position, guys, in a couple of years' time, who are prodigious talents from our academy. There's a way. It's a long shot, but there's a way. Yeah. And I mean, it's worth just taking a beat, by the way, and saying, People think we could win the Champions League this season. We just won the Premier League. We're one of the best teams in the world. And oh, by the way, our best player is probably an academy player, Bakayo Saka.
49:38And we started this preseason game with three sensational academy players on the pitch. I mean, I know we're going through a lot of changes at the academy. We have a new academy director in place now. But what a golden era of supporting Arsenal. Not only do you get the benefit of watching a team that can win it all with one of the best managers in world football, if not the best, but you also get to see academy players pulling on the shirt and making contributions and the pipeline of academy talent very exciting um i thought miles was excellent by the way as well and i'm not even going to deign to to cover the the rumors of a move to manchester united for him because it doesn't even bear discussion i will say by the way the nice thing about having football to talk about is it eliminates some of the bed wetting that happens during the summer obviously when your first signing is a third choice keeper that upsets people.
50:22Melies signing was met with the expected amount of pissing and moaning. And then he comes into this game and he makes some sensational saves and he looks good. And you're like, oh, yeah, maybe he's not too bad to have in tow. And like, I realize the level of the game is nothing special, but like it just gives you something to analyze besides your own neuroses, which I, anytime you point at someone else, you've got four fingers pointing back at you, Elliot. Just remember that. Okay, let's talk Solis. There was a quantum of it on the pitch in this game. And Mikel Arteta said to the player, I'm very pleased with him.
50:53First of all, the way he has adapted to the club, to the team, the connection he's already generated with the boys. I think you're going to love the player. He's a very direct player. Then Mikel, as usual, had an interesting turn of phrase. He's got the ball between his eyes, whatever that means. I think really good at linking up. He has a lot of similarities with Leo. Thanks. I've been trying not to just compare him to Leo because it feels lazy. But now that Mikel's done it, I can say it. That he can do in the spaces he can occupy. And then the work ethic he has. He's a boy that comes with so much hunger as well and wants to prove it.
51:19It's a dream for him. And we are here to help him. Tim, he looked good. He looked good. I mean, the biggest negative was that he did not shoot in that one moment. But the spaces he occupied, he did the things. I like it when the scouting videos seem right as opposed to seem wrong. They seem wrong plenty, but they seem right some. One cut, quick decision, good off both feet, very direct. And that's what we saw, and that's what we need, and I love it. Yeah, absolutely. At the risk of harking back to the past too much, we should say, what an amazing compliment for Trossard as well and what he brought to Arsenal.
51:52That basically we've gone, okay, you're 31, time to go, but we just want the exact same player, thank you. We just want the younger one. And probably we should stop the Trossard kind of comparisons there. I wanted to, but Mikel said it, so what can I do? Would you say he showed a little more burst, maybe just a little more burst than you were expecting? Yeah, yeah, yeah, I think so. I think so. He's got a really interesting gait when he shoots as well. It's actually kind of Perez-like. Like he gets his body over the ball, which you're told to do when you shoot. But he really, like it's almost like…
52:29Clive says he tops it. That's what Clive said in the chat of the IRA. He has a weird striking style. He kind of tops it instead of… He gets his head over the ball. And it almost looks like, you know, when Ozil used to do the bounce shot. Yeah, yeah. Almost like that. Like he pushes it into the ground. and it arrows it's yeah yeah i really really like it because he had another shot that was very similar which i think might have got blocked but it's he's got that kind of low shot there's almost like a lawn bowls thing where he's like trying to weave it through legs and all of that and and i i reckon this was a deflected goal right i reckon he'll get quite a few of those or we'll get goals as a result of it like yeah yeah yeah absolutely or it will ricochet somewhere useful for us so yeah I really liked what I saw like I said before I really like the signing to be honest you know with the with the prices for everything not just us a lot of clubs are going to have to do this sort of stuff quite a lot in the market and yeah he he's he's yeah he's like Trossard kind of had that wide playmaker thing going as well, which I'm not so sure like Solis will have, but I think you're right.
53:43He's got a bit more of a burst. He's got, he looks more like, like Trossard looked like just an all round footballer who could do most things. And we just chose to put him on the left. Whereas Solis looks like a gold, a goal scoring left winger. That's what he looks like to me. He just looks like, yep, he'll, he can beat you on the outside as he did for that chance when like you say he probably deferred a little and should have had a shot but it looks like he can go outside and inside and that's very very useful as well again like if you're looking at criticisms we've had of Madueke does he threaten enough when he comes inside to make a fullback really think oh no I don't want him going inside like when Saka squares you up and he can go either way you're scared when Madueke does it you're kind of like yeah i'm all right with you going inside actually because i don't think you're gonna you know you're gonna produce you know a shot or anything so yeah really really is like oh oh crap i'm in front of goal yeah yeah exactly it's like actually should we rewind this situation can i just go on the outside and get across it i'm gonna go outside and cross it oh crap i'm in front of go whereas solis is like we're at the fucking goal yeah i i have to say to like maybe watching your own team is a reminder of what you should make of transfer news and things like that because you'll sometimes see a player linked with return linking up for training with the team he's with and you're like why is he training with them if he's coming to us but as a reminder gabriel jesus fabio vieira and reese nelson all played in this game i think it's fair to say those are players we would all like to move if possible and this is a time of year when there's a lot in flux as exciting as it was to see certain players and And as much as I enjoyed seeing Solis and watching Max, obviously, we got players to move.
55:28And seeing Fabio Vieira in an Arsenal shirt is just a reminder that we haven't always been great at clearing the decks. We've got to clear the decks a little bit. I will say I thought Kai looked brilliant. And Mikel has been speaking about the shape the players are coming back in, how they're coming back with so much hunger and desire and how they're asking to come back sooner than they need to. and I didn't expect Kai Havertz or even Victor Yocres to be starting this game. They did. And I loved Kai's comment after the match when he was asked about what they wanted to do, saying what were the goals for this season.
56:01He said, quote, I think we want all the trophies. That's what we're here for. Amen. And he looks like it. I'll tell you, look, I rate Kai very, very highly. I think he is a player that we probably don't realize how much we missed in not having him last season. On a big scoring run. at the moment as well. Yeah, yeah. I just think he's really matured. I think he loves Arsenal. I think he loves where he's at. And I think he's a big, versatile player for us, literally and figuratively. So I'm excited for him. Paul, before we shift gears a little, because there's a couple of other things about this game that I wanted to touch on and ask you about.
56:35But we did see some other Academy players. I am not a keen watcher of the Academy. We do a monthly Academy pod on Patreon. We've paused that for the summer, but that'll be back during the season. but one that I think some people speak of in tones similar to Max Downman is Marley Salmon and it makes me think about Barcelona ironically because they've got Lamin-Yemol and I don't know if you've heard of him but Lamin-Yemol is a pretty good player but they also have Pau Kuparsi and Kuparsi is a 19 year old teenager you know playing central defense he's one of the best defenders and he starts for Spain he starts for Barcelona Marley Salmon 16 Max Dowman 16 Marley Salmon's in a position that takes a little more time to develop but you watch him and he's he's real good you can see he's real good if you're not a keen watcher of academy players I think it actually can help you sometimes because you can spot the ones who just fit in and the ones who look out of place and to me he just looks like he fits in so any thought on any of the other academy players and is Marley Salmon the one that stood out to you like he did for me well what's stood out about him was that he didn't stand out, which is what you're looking for at a centre-back.
57:48Now, he's been around the team a lot at this point, played with them. He's played for the team a few times. Like, for a 16-year-old as a centre-back, I think he's doing great. He's very comfortable on the ball. He's very happy to pop it around. It's not just get my defending right. Positionally, he looked very sound. Maybe they didn't stretch our back line too much. So it It wasn't the biggest test he's ever going to have. They weren't the most physical team. And, you know, we did concede on that set piece on the corners that started the second half. And actually, it was probably the funniest moment of the game because we're two goals up and they score off the header.
58:32And, like, the captain who scores, he's like, oh, spins around, wrestles our keeper for the ball. I'm like, dude, it's preseason. He gives the crowd the one finger as he sprints back to the halfway line. I'm like, God. And then we score two more to make it. And then we score two more. I have a theory he's a time traveler, and he knew that in 90 seconds, Max Damon was due to score a fantastic goal, and he didn't want to miss it or mess with the fabric of time. but you know you do it will be those circumstances where you start to see the gap between a Marley but he's got plenty of time you know he's going to grow he's going to fill out he'll reach a point where nobody shoves and not that it was necessarily his fault but you'd expect a Gabriel in that spot in that game so he's going to need several years to come through and have the physicality and I'm surprised we don't produce more centre-backs in our academy.
59:34I think you would think you just look for a guy with the physical properties, good on the ball, and then you can coach everything else. But I don't think it's that easy. I think that it's an actual mental skill set that you're kind of born with that they then develop on top. I'll give you another reason. I think it is so rare to develop into being an elite top flight center back at a young age. and center back is the position where if you play a player who's not ready, it can cost you the most clearly. Like think of what happened when we played Mustafi or Squalachi or Pablo Marie, like it costs you.
1:00:09And so you see young center backs come through where the stakes are lower. I can't think of too many clubs that trot out teenage center backs in games that matter. I mean, Koubar C again comes to mind, but so what do you do with the Marley Salmon? I don't think any of us think, well, while Saliba's out, just play Marley Salmon. But over on the other end of the pitch, we're like, well, Saka's out, just play Max Dowman. That's the difference. right not because of the talent gap but because of the risk gap and so it's harder for them to get the opportunity to develop so he's just gonna have to find playing time somewhere um tim one negative if if we're allowed is urian timber not in the squad and i think the way it had been reported is he was going back to london for a routine check back up with his specialist and then was gonna it said join up with the team in gerona he wasn't in the team look he may be fine.
1:01:00But until I see Urien Timber on the pitch playing football, right back looks an even more concerning area than it did before. I mean, I think Ben White looked good. Ben White obviously had the ball recovery that led to the Gabriel Jesus goal. Fine. But with Saliba out for a long time and Ben White always a bit of an injury risk and Urien Timber not showing that he is able to put any consistent football out there right now, that right side of the defense is is certainly an area of focus. So did the absence of Timber kind of strike you as a thing? Oh yeah, we've got a right side of the defense issue that even though the Vinny Jr.
1:01:37and Bruno stuff is exciting, we kind of have to go into the market to solve that in the near term. Yeah, yeah. So I don't think Timber was ever expected to play in this game. I think the kind of initial reporting was they hope he can take some part in preseason, which probably means maybe Community Shield, could he make the squad or does that just mean he'll be back in full training by then? So I certainly wasn't expecting him to be part of this game. So it didn't make me think about it more. I was already thinking about it, to be honest. However, I do think, I know that there was some reassurance about him going back and it being a routine appointment, but I don't know about that.
1:02:19Surely, like, if that was planned in advance, it would be easier to bring the guy out. You're speaking my language, Tim. like i don't know how likely it is that you go back and then come back like for what's a routine appointment like surely you know someone at arsenal's level it's just like whoever that guy is um it's like hey do you want to come to spain in august that guy says yeah yeah i do um you know or that or like they're able to access a specialist in another way do you know what i mean it's not like it's not like us plebs in the uk on the nhs you know and you get an appointment and man if you get an appointment that is a reason to celebrate and you do fly back from your holiday if you get an appointment on the NHS but yeah that that strikes me as slightly unlikely that they'd have brought him out and said yeah yeah but then you fly back Thursday then you come back like that doesn't tend to be how it happens but maybe at this stage of his recovery it's there's unanticipated and then there's yeah we thought that this might happen And this is all just part of the recovery process.
1:03:26I don't know which of those it is, but I very much doubt that they flew out to Girona knowing that he was going to fly back again. So I do think that's potentially a cause for concern. And listen, I think Arteta and Arsenal, by being interested in someone like Esri Konza, Esri Konza, I think he started every game for England at the World Cup, if not something quite close to it. Certainly played in every game. He's 28. he plays for Aston Villa who qualified for the Champions League like that is an incredibly high level player to be interested in so I think Arsenal and Arteta recognize the urgency plenty if that's that's the kind of player that they're they're going after so I imagine what's happening is they have to see how much money they've got to spend to get Bruno out of Newcastle and potentially if the Vinny thing, like I suspect the reason there hasn't been movement on it is because they don't know exactly how much money they've got to play with on it.
1:04:25I reckon if Vinny doesn't happen, for example, I'd bet Konza does. Interesting. Yeah. I mean, whether you think that's the right way to spend money or not, I'd just come down to the fact that I like mascara. Of course, I love Ben White. You know, Marley Salmon looks a talent. There's just no way to look at our situation the right side of defense with saliva out potentially till december timber having not played in ages ben white routinely you know being hit miss with fitness and mascara being a young guy like there there's just no way you don't add there we have to um i'll be very curious to see how we address that uh paul you want to give a quick comment on ifa ibrahim yeah so when i watched it live i wasn't i noticed him but i didn't really notice him and then clive chipped in in the instant reaction to like that he'd had a game so went back and had a look at him and then there's there's a few highlights videos as well there's one of Ibrahim very very good uh very confident um do you know what age he is Tim Elliot 18 I think yeah um kind of a lot of poise nuts yeah and he's kind of got the mildest yaya toure kind of vibes in terms of he's not super quick feet he's just got nice pacing and movement and nice choice of passes and progressive uh yeah he turns away from trouble elegantly yeah looks very controlled very comfortable very in very in control um so he was he was an eye proper i hope we get to see him in a couple more pre-season games i don't have a huge analysis to add on to him except would love to see a little bit more of him and one for us all i think to watch a little bit on to see how he develops but uh he was a surprise for me i wasn't expecting to be thinking if ibrahim after the first pre-season game very very nice and layered on top of miles lewis skelly uh you know we're not probably not going to have a section on miles but like his progressive passing he's excellent oh wow oh wow and you know made a couple of errors in terms of choices but you know started working on a scanning looking over his shoulder the paranoid thing you need in that position of course he's got a lot of competition ahead of him if he wants to be the deep-lying playmaker but he showed a a volume of progressive passes you know as an assist and a pre-assist that made two goals basically and um okay not every game will be like this but you know there's two young academy players playing in our midfield who can pop balls around the place it was very very nice yeah really really fun to see us playing those passes between defenders inside the block breaking lines to the next attacker up and um all of our best moves ethan or miles was involved playing a pass like that it was really fun to see i i enjoyed this game immensely i enjoyed seeing some academy players we likely won't see much of or hear from again seeing some they'll be able to say i remember when they played against uh gerona and kind of announced themselves a little bit like and Ifa Ibrahim or Marley Salmon, who we've already seen, obviously, play for Arsenal before.
1:07:55But Max Downing is certainly here. Look, I just want to say this, because of the volume of transfer speculation and the intensity of interest in that, because Arsenal just played, we haven't gotten to the FIFA stuff. I think I want to set it aside for now because we're a little limited on time because I got to fly out to Dublin. It is fair to say it is an absolute clusterfuck, is what I would say. Obviously, it is scandalous what's been going on with FIFA and Johnny Infantino. And I think there's an Arsenal angle too, because there are people that would probably like to hear some thoughts on Arsene Wenger being there and associated with this and how he is probably reacting to what's going on.
1:08:33And it's a very naughty conversation because there's probably a lot of detail that we don't have and don't know. And some of it is obviously just very obvious. And the outrage has been expressed elegantly by many people. And Andrew's done it on his pod as well. So something we could talk about as it develops a little more, but due to time constraints today I won't get to so I apologize for that I think we're gonna have to leave it there it's great to watch Arsenal play I'm looking forward like I said to seeing them play in person on Wednesday and seeing Tim we will have an instant reaction with Clive and Paul so if you do want the instant reaction Clive and Paul will be on instant reaction duty on Wednesday there will be a main pod on Thursday the nature of that to be determined maybe even a Friday night Clive on Friday so lots still to come but in the interest of actually catching my flight today We'll leave it there Tim thank you My pleasure as always Paul thanks man Woohoo We will raise a glass to you My friend When we're in Dublin Hope to see a lot of good people there We love you Who do we play in Dublin?
