In short
The Buckleys: A Freaky Christmas Quiz is a Christmas-themed, chaotic couples podcast episode.
Guests
none. Hosts are Claire and James Buckley, a married couple who trade banter, moan, and listener confessions. Key claims/topics: they discuss Christmas prep for their 14- and 12-year-old kids (kids aren’t interested in toys like they used to), stress about gifts, and a planned family TV show featuring Claire (also mentions Lenny Rush, Stephen Fry, and Greg Davis). They swap stories about bad habits and disasters: struggling to find bins, people eating cereal while driving, and a listener-style confession about magic-mushroom butter causing a family trip. They also talk about sex-toy gift mishaps and “freaky” but mostly comedic boundaries.
Notable examples
the “Strike It Buckley” quiz includes claims like Catalonia’s “Cooganer” (a defecator), Iceland’s Yule Cat, Wales’ horse-skull tradition, and Greenland’s fermented seabirds (kivvyak).

No. My grandma had accidentally used magic mushroom butter that I had hid at the back of the freezer.
1:12Remember when you had to whip once?
1:13Clair Buckley:It wasn't a whip, it was a riding crop. Yeah. And we had to stop using that because I whipped myself on the balls with it.
1:22Clair Buckley:Ding dong's only the sky It's been done It's ringing Glory
1:34Clair Buckley:Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh
1:50I love Christmas. Hey, Claire. What?
1:58Clair Buckley:It's time to do a podcast. I can tell you're really up for this. What? What's wrong? What's wrong, baby? What's wrong? What's the matter? What's wrong? I can't start this podcast without knowing what's wrong with you, Claire. I'm not going to be able to do this podcast if I feel for a second that something's bugging you what is it? it's the same thing that's bugging everybody in this room hey listen welcome to the Buckleys the podcast where we sit down have a chat, moan a bit and invite you into our lives before we get into it we just want to remind you that you can get in touch with your stories and questions for us by emailing thebuckleys at platformmedia.uk or you can message us at thebuckleyspod on Instagram or TikTok and don't forget to follow and subscribe to the show on Spotify or whatever podcast app that you like to use and if you do enjoy the show why not go ahead and leave us a review after and also me and Claire are going on tour in the spring.
2:44Clair Buckley:So go and Google Out With The Buckleys and you can buy some tickets. I don't think they're that expensive, but they are overpriced. If we... For what you're going to get? If we get divorced before the tour starts, will people get their money back? No, you can't. We can't get divorced. Didn't we have to sign something saying that we're not going to get divorced? We don't have insurance. Yeah, we had to... There was like a whole insurance thing. We had to sign something saying... Because if we get divorced, that's it. That's the show all fucked, right? Yeah, but I'm just checking would people get their money back.
3:14Clair Buckley:I think we'll get in trouble, though. Like, we'll be in trouble. We'll never work again, will we? Like, if we did that, we'd be blacklisted. So we've got another sort of six months at least in happy land. Okay. Hey, Claire, how are you? Can I just say, can I just say you are looking fantastic. You're looking beautiful, looking stunning. Light of my life Ray of sunshine Hurry up You look beautiful is all I'm saying Okay thanks How are you? I'm alright I'm alright You're okay? I'm okay I'm fine You can't say hurry up by the way The podcast takes as long as it takes Right We can't hurry up a podcast Okay Hurry up We can maybe knock this one out in about seven minutes And I can get the train home Yeah No we're here we're doing it Okay I'm here?
4:06Yeah See but this is what he does though Because I'm fine and you're prodding me. I'm not prodding you. You want some sort of weird reaction. I don't want any reaction on you. I actually know you've been annoying. I have not been annoying. You're just screeching into everybody's ears a minute ago. I was not screeching.
4:21Clair Buckley:I was singing. It's Christmas. Oh, well, kill me for trying to spread a bit of Christmas joy to our listeners. Hurry up. Crucify me, why don't you? Which would be ironic. Right. What are you wearing? I'm wearing a little chieftain's jersey. Yeah, you are. I want it to be festive. How's that festive? Well, none of my Christmas jumpers fit me anymore. And this was the most patented sort of crazy thing that I've got. OK. So that's it. Weird about the Christmas jumpers. They fit me all last year. Must have shrunk or something. Not sure what's happened there. I will get to the bottom of it. Anyway, what's been going on?
4:57Clair Buckley:Something the nation wants to know, Claire. What's on everyone's lips, right? Everyone's asking, what have the Buckleys been up to this week? I need to fucking know what they've been up to. And if they don't tell me, there's going to be riots. What have we been up to this week? What have we been up to? What have we been up to? I had a kebab last night. Yeah. Was that any good? No, it was freezing. I was raging. Oh, it's because you get yours from the bad kebab place and I get mine from the good kebab place. No, I got it for the good one. I like the thin chips. I don't like fat chips. Listen, I don't mind chips in whatever shape or size they come.
5:30Clair Buckley:I'm just cool like that. What's been going on in our lives this week? Christmas prep. Obviously. Our kids are at a shit age. Really? Too old for toys But they're not interested in like A sovereign ring Or a piece of jewellery from the jewellery section of Argos No That's what I would have loved as a 13 year old Yeah Once I'd like stopped playing with my Power Ranger figurines I wanted a bit of What last week? I wanted you know I wanted like a nice yellow gold sovereign ring Yeah I had a big sovereign And I wore it on this finger Because I was hard They're not interested in that So I don't know I don't know what to get No I know Oh, I don't know what to get them either.
6:10Clair Buckley:I don't know what to get them. I mean, I bought nothing for you. You've said you don't want nothing. I don't. You've said, I don't want nothing. That always feels like a fucking trap. I didn't say I don't want nothing because that makes zero sense. It's a double negative shot. I said, I don't want anything. No, and that's not true. I didn't say that. You showed me a posh little handbag. And, well, first of all, you screwed yourself. Yeah. Because you showed me what... Because it was very expensive. and I would love to be a guy that could surprise his wife with an expensive handbag over Christmas.
6:42Here he goes.
6:42Clair Buckley:But I've done it before where I've bought you something expensive and you've gone, oh, I really don't like that. You showed me a little picture of a handbag. Yeah. And you were like, oh, I bet you don't like it. Here, do you like this? Yeah. And that was the attitude. Yeah. And I went, yeah, I do actually. And you were like, oh, obviously. Yeah. He was annoyed because he felt the need to show me it because he thought I wouldn't like it and then he showed me it and I said, oh, that is actually really nice and then he was annoyed that he showed me it. Yeah, because it's not a lovely little surprise.
7:13Clair Buckley:Well, you're getting that, by the way. That's what you're getting. But what did I say? I said I don't want posh stuff because you bought me some posh stuff last year and it was lovely. But I don't want... I said don't bother about posh stuff. I like buying stuff here. I like buying stuff here. It makes me happy. It makes me feel like a man. It makes me feel masculated. Is that the opposite of emasculated? It makes me feel like a man. treating my lady to a nice posh handbag I get enjoyment out of it right fine but I don't know how I'm the bad guy for saying don't worry about buying stuff like that I don't need anything like that yeah sometimes that's a trap though isn't it no it's not because I've woke up on Christmas being like where's all my posh stuff no listen I've learnt you know you know I don't trust that don't get me anything for Christmas because then when you don't get them anything for Christmas they go well you could have got right get me whatever you want Okay, fine.
8:03Clair Buckley:I genuinely don't want anything for Christmas, unless... I'm not getting£500 Power Rangers. Then I don't want anything. I don't want anything for Christmas. I was thinking of asking for the posh Apple Watch. You know the top version of the Apple Watch? It's a bit, like, thicker and it looks a bit ultra. Yeah, it looks a bit sort of cooler. Can I say there's nothing that looks cool about an Apple Watch? You don't like the Apple Watch, do you? No. I think the look of the Apple Watch is so uncool. Yeah. Do you know what it reminds me of? It's like a 50-year-old woman. Yeah. Well, to be fair... It's very Karen, I think.
8:38Clair Buckley:To be fair, that's how I... I'm just counting my sticks for the day. Yeah, that's how I use the Apple Watch as well. So I've got the entry-level Apple Watch, the SE. I think it was like a couple of hundred quid or something. And that does everything that I need it to do. Right, so you don't need the new one then? No, I don't. I don't. It would be a waste of money. Right, so that's stupid. I'll give you a kiss. alright then I'm just stressing out I'm stressing out I want to get everyone for Christmas I know the kids are stressing me out to be fair 14 and 12 very awkward ages very awkward like you say they don't care about at 14 we'd have been like oh like an Armani jumper or something to enter the disco and stuff that stuff doesn't really they don't do that anymore or like a pair of rock pots or or like a Stone Island Jake or something, or a Fred Perry even.
9:31Clair Buckley:Well, it's where I'd get my clothes for the year. Yeah. It's Christmas. It's just, it's not the same. I'd have two pairs of trainers at any one point. The wings are spoiled. They've got everything, that's the problem. I'd have my new trainers. They're ruined. I'd have my new trainers I've got for Christmas, they'd be for best. Yeah. And then I'd have last year's best trainers. You could wear them more often. They're the ones that I wear out. I know, I know. I don't know what to do. Anyway. Fucking minefield. I've got a little Christmas TV show coming out haven't I? You do? Yeah. When's that up?
10:01Clair Buckley:Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. Right. Maybe even both Right. Maybe you should find out so you can tell people. Couldn't even tell you what it's called Claire I don't know what it's called So I don't even know what it's called. It's pointless bringing it up really. Yeah. But go and watch it You might like it. It should all be great No it'd be really lovely. It's a real nice little family thing. I'm not going to talk about clunge or anything like that in it. You're putting them off. I know. No, it's going to be really nice. You can watch it with your kids and stuff and I'm in it, but don't watch it because of that or avoid it because of that because also Lenny Rush is in it.
10:36Clair Buckley:It's great and other people like Stephen Fry are in it and they're all brilliant. Greg Davis is in it. I wasn't sure whether that was a little sort of sexy surprise, but Greg Davis is in it and it is good. It is good. Are we watching it? No. I can't think of anything worse. Well, no, I'll go set down after dinner and watch your new... Nah. Drill Grubb. Nah. We don't, do we? No. I don't think I've ever sat down and watched something that you've been in. In fact, that's a lie. There's one thing that I watched all the way through. I was by myself. The Pyramid. That was the one. Now, of all the stuff that I've done, that's the one that you've picked.
11:15That's the one thing that I watched the whole thing. I think I watched all the Rockin' Chips as well.
11:18Clair Buckley:I think The Pyramid, oh, the best thing that could happen with The Pyramid is it becomes one of those films that get a cult following because of... Oh, shit it is. Yeah. Like The Room. Need to watch that film. I've only seen clips of it, and it's just everything that could be wrong with the film. It's just a real sort of lightning in a bottle moment of capturing every... I watched the James Franco film. Oh, I've not seen that. I've put that, but I've not actually seen the film. He, like... What was his name? I can't remember it, but he wrote it, directed it, and starred in it. Yeah. He's got absolutely no background in making films at all whatsoever.
11:57And he's the worst actor.
11:59Clair Buckley:Tony Wiseau. Tommy Wiseau. That's it, yeah. Because I watched a whole... Wiseau. Wiseau. I watched a thing, like a YouTube documentary thing about it, just someone talking about the making of it and things like that. And it was just like so obvious that he didn't understand about filmmaking because the budget for it's mental, by the way. The budget for that film is absolutely insane because he bought all the equipment. Like even Fox and Paramount and stuff know that you hire the cameras and you hire the equipment. Was he rich? Well, people know nothing about this guy either. People don't know where he got his money from.
12:38Clair Buckley:He was driving Ferraris and things like this. He seemed to have money, but no one knew. And there was like, is this a money laundering thing? or da da da. And any time that he's done an interview, he gives the weirdest, vague, vaguest answers to absolutely everything. Like they were giving quotes about him answering questions and it's all sort of broken English. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And it's like, well, he's not answered the question at all. Yeah. He's just said some words. That's why it's so interesting though. The whole thing's fascinating. The whole thing is so fascinating. I need to watch it.
13:08Clair Buckley:I've got to watch it. We should watch it. We should. But I'm hoping that the pyramid gets to the room levels at some point in its life. Shall I have a quick little moan, Claire? No. Well, I've got bad news for you, baby. Honestly, this is a quick one. Well, I've got two. I've got two quick ones. The first one I thought of today as I was walking in because I've got my jacket over there. I've got like a big piece of plastic. What do you call it? Wrapping, like plastic. Bag? It's not like hard plastic. Like cling film? No, it's not that soft either. Okay. What do you call it? Packaging. Plastic packaging.
13:46Clair Buckley:I've got some plastic packaging. And I've had it in my pocket for weeks because I've got this thing, even though we did walk past a couple on the way in today. Why didn't I throw it? Oh, no. Anyway, I've got this thing where I can't find... Am I losing my mind? I can't find a bin. I can't find a bin these days. There's one in the fucking house! No, no. But I only realise I've got this... You just said you've had it for weeks. Yeah, but once I take my coat off, my coat's off then and we're in the house and then I put my coat back on and I put my hand in my pocket and I go, oh, that rubbish is still in my hand, in my pocket.
14:20Clair Buckley:I've had this piece of plastic wrapping packaging in my pocket for weeks now, right? It's driving me mental. There's not enough bins. The bins have gone. I feel like there used to be you couldn't walk like 10 paces without a bin. Now the bins have gone. I don't know where they've gone. I don't feel like there's enough bins these days. I feel like when it got to sort of the 80s, 90s, that the world started going, oh, we can't. just keep sort of throwing our crap all over the place. We need to sort of, you know, put stuff in bins and keep things tidy. So in the 90s, there was the find a bin to put it in campaign that really stuck with me.
14:56Clair Buckley:And I've never thrown stuff on the floor and I won't do it. No, I'm not a litter. And I think everyone our age is. I think that's a collective thing. I think that's like the one good thing millennials have brought to the table is that we don't really like to throw rubbish on the floor. No, I hate. See when I'm in. Or out car windows and stuff. That's what I was going to say. I hate that. Do you know what? I love it. When you're in traffic. I love it when I see, like, someone in traffic or at traffic lights or something like that. They open their window. Someone throws a load of shit out their window onto the floor.
15:23Clair Buckley:Someone gets off a motorbike, picks it up and throws it back in the car. Yeah, and Nissan. It's great. Yeah. It's absolutely brilliant. But I just feel like there's not enough bins. I'm struggling with this bit of plastic in my pocket at the moment. It's driving me mental. But the other day, I was in the back of a car. I was in a taxi being driven in. Get carried with that. And, um. I was in the back of a car. And it was quite busy. It was on the motorway, so I was just looking out the window and stuff like that. There was a bloke driving his car right next to me, eating cereal. Eating cereal while he's driving a car.
15:56Was it early in the morning? Yeah. So he's having his breakfast? Yeah, yeah. Out of a bowl?
16:01Clair Buckley:Out of a Tupperware box. Tupperware. With milk. No one's that hungry. No one's that hungry. No. What, is he a fucking toddler? Yeah. Oh, no, it's half seven. I've got to have my feed. No, drive the car. Yeah, but also there's easier things to eat than soup. Absolutely. Okay. A chocolate bar or something, a little sort of nut bar, what do you call it, those little breakfast bars. Yeah. Have one of them. I've got to have my cereal right now. What are you fucking for? Honestly, I was furious. Remember that time we were driving and we saw somebody eating a corn in the cob as well? And I said to James, there's a guy next to us eating a corn in the cob while driving, and he went, yeah, all right, and I was like, just your weight.
16:44Yeah. We pulled up and he was eating a huge corn in the cob.
16:48Clair Buckley:Even if your journey, and there was traffic, and even if your journey, are you telling me you can't wait two hours? Yeah. Like, unless he was fucking, like, I'm going to die in the next ten minutes unless I eat this cereal. I know, but still, cereal? With a spoon? Who takes cereal? With milk? That's dangerous. I feel, yeah, but I feel like that's a normal thing that people with jobs that go to an office. I don't think you take cereal and milk in a Tupperware. Yeah, I think people do. No, I think they keep the milk separate. They take their little cereal, get into the office, just before they start work, have a little bowl of cereal.
17:23Clair Buckley:Right, fine. While you're in charge of a vehicle. When you're in charge of a vehicle, Claire, you're in charge of a dangerous weapon. That's what a teacher told me once when I was at school. Are teachers still dramatic, do you think? Oh, yeah, 100%. Yeah. They're so dramatic. Harrison tells me stuff sometimes and I'm like, don't fucking listen to her when you're in charge of a vehicle you're in charge of a dangerous weapon yeah I mean that is true I know but that's what a teacher told me once I was like I can't drive like I'm 14 mate don't know what you want from me yeah I'll tell you what else I've got a problem with when I see people and again I get it sometimes you have to do it you can be going from one place to the next and it's your only chance right but me personally I would rather be hungry and wait and eat later when I got home I've got a problem with people not a problem like do what you want obviously you're not getting any enjoyment out of it no I don't understand when I see people eating when they're walking in the street yeah just wait until you get to wherever you're going yeah but to be fair you know you don't know what they're doing they could be going straight into work from another job whatever right people are busy but I just wouldn't enjoy and I'm talking about hot food like I see people eating their McDonald's walking down the street I'm like oh I just couldn't enjoy it I'd rather not have it I'd rather not have it I need to eat off a table.
18:41The only thing I would eat walking down the street is a sausage roll.
18:44Clair Buckley:Right. I think that's hot food-wise. That's made for the walking down the street. Yeah, the Greggs packet, wrap it down, eat that, you're fine. But when I see people with sushi bowls and stuff on the train and stuff, I'm like, just wait. Although there was a woman on the train a couple of days ago and I was starving and I was on the way home and she had a McDonald's and, my God, I could have took a bite right out of her horn I was watching her you know when you're starving everything looks unreal and it was a McChicken sandwich and I was like and the chips looked great they were all soft and salty I could tell I'm hungry right now actually anyway need beans stop eating cereal while you're driving a car that's fair because you're in charge of a dangerous weapon dangerous weapon Did you know about one in three people with plaque psoriasis may also develop psoriatic arthritis, which causes joint pain, stiffness and swelling?

As it's Christmas, we asked our listeners to share their funniest Christmas confessions. that will be the judge of whether they're funny or not plus their best and worst festive stories of all time right fucking stop it man it's because I take what I need is I don't care it's the beer Clem it's the beer it is the beer I take a big swig of beer when we have a little sort of natural break to catch our breath for a second catch your breath you've not fucking took a breath we need to we need to start getting into a habit of giving me 30 seconds after I've had a load of beer.
21:50How many?
21:51Clair Buckley:30. After I've had a load of beer. I hate it when people don't pronounce TH. But my problem is if 30 seconds go by and we're still not starting again, I'll have another swig of beer and then we start. Well, stop talking when we're trying to be on a break. I've got to stop. Maybe stop drinking. No, don't do that. Anyway, Christmas dinner disasters. Juno is here. Juno? Juno! Juno says it took three days for Christmas dinner to be cooked Because my cousin spiked the family What? We were staying at my grandma's house She made cookies like she does every Christmas And we had them for breakfast Everything was going fine until I looked across at my mum And her face turned into an alien bug statue My grandma had accidentally used magic mushroom butter That I had hid and forgotten about at the back of the freezer when I house sat for her five months before with my friends.
22:48Clair Buckley:So what was that to do with, how has your cousin been dragged into this? I think Juno was trying to blame the cousin on the, I assume, weed-laced, or magic mushroom-laced butter. And then Juno, halfway through writing this, I think might have had some magic mushrooms. And was just like, yeah, no, I left it in there. Juno, even your, Are you still coming down from those magic mushrooms? Great, yeah. Get the whole family tripping on hallucinogens. Wow. Aren't mushrooms legal, though? Not some of them. Some aren't, no. The ones that make you all trippy and stuff, I assume. They're not. I think they were legal for a while.
23:30Clair Buckley:I feel like it was the type of thing when I was a teenager, you could go into Camden and just buy in a shop. Yeah, but if it grows, can't you just go into the forest and find them? Yeah, but there's... So then how can it be illegal to eat it? Because it becomes a point where it becomes illegal, doesn't it? It becomes a point where it's like, oh, they're legal to just grow there. I personally don't like any of that stuff. I'm not into trying that stuff. I don't like feeling not, like after, you know, four or five beers. I just get really, really drunk. Yeah. That's what I do over Christmas. But.
24:02And that's fine. Would it be easier to have a family Christmas if everybody was high? No, because I'd get through it by being drunk. I know but other people might be better.
24:11Clair Buckley:Nah, I think you sort of become exaggerated versions of yourself then. Really? It might be worse. Nah, that wouldn't be good for in my too. I did, I worked with someone that took drugs, didn't I? Went like as part of their process. Yeah. Because we were doing a scene where we were supposed to be high on drugs. Yeah. And I just pretended. Acted. Because that's what acting is. Yeah, yeah. And the other person turned up, just took a load of LSD. And it doesn't work. No. Like imagine just turning up to the office on LSD. Just turning up to where you work. Like you won't get any work done. No. And we didn't get any work done.
24:48Clair Buckley:It was an absolute disaster. Maya has a little message for us. Maya says, when I was small in the run up to Christmas, I wasn't allowed ice cream until my dinner was finished. Yeah. Fair. Yeah. So my solution was to throw it under the tree. Oh, so what? You would just sneak bits of dinner. So say if there was like a bit of potato, a bit of meat or whatever. I don't know whether all of these people were on. It said at the beginning, funniest Christmas confessions. Yeah. My sister found the cocktail sausages next to the presents a few days later. Hilarious. Grace is here, says one Christmas I got so pissed that I tried to wee in the Christmas tree bucket.
25:26That's funny.
25:27Clair Buckley:Good stuff. Louise is here. She says my mother-in-law's cooking is so bad that I flat out refused to spend Christmas at their house. Oh yeah, because of the cooking. Well, people like their food the way they like it. I always say this about you. Spaghetti bolognese is one. I make a great spaghetti bolognese. I love your spaghetti bolognese. Me and the boys, we love your spaghetti bolognese. We're accustomed to the way the spaghetti bolognese is done in our house. Yeah. I do it the right way, though. Yeah. I feel like you do the Italian way. I do. Fine. You go to other people's houses. Well, to be fair, what I'm about to say now, actually, is going to contradict myself.
26:01Clair Buckley:But when I go to someone else's house and they're like, oh, we're doing a spoked bowl. Yeah. I go, right. And it tastes a bit weird. Yeah. And there's carrots in it. Yeah. I'm like, what? No. But I think there is, I think traditionally there is carrots in the spaghetti bolognese. No, there's not. And I'll tell you something really weird. But I don't like it. I don't like carrots in my spag bol. I like it tangy. I like it tomatoey. Garlicy. Yeah, garlicky. I went for dinner once at somebody's house and they served spaghetti bolognese and it had fucking sweet corn in it. Sweet corn. Was it all watery as well?
26:34It was absolute shite. I couldn't believe it. When I saw Sweet Con in it, I was like, what the fuck? Where am I?
26:44Clair Buckley:Daryl says here, my wife bought me the new FIFA years back. Oh, I still remember when you got me that Batman Arkham game. I bought you loads of games back in the day. No, I know, but that Batman Arkham game, I just genuinely appreciated it. Because I know for a fact that you had no idea what you were getting and you managed to get it. It was the right thing and you also got me the 3D version of it. Yeah, yeah. So there was one Christmas where I was sat with, like, glasses on in front of the television. And that was when we lived in the flat. Yeah. And it wasn't like I could just go off to the guest room or something like that.
27:21Clair Buckley:No, it was the one telly. Yeah, it was the one telly in our house. Yeah. You had to just sit there watching me play Batman with 3D glasses on. But I just knew that all of that was horrible for you. I know, I should have. And I just... It's the loveliest thing you've ever done for me. It honestly is. Don't look offended. Look at you, you get upset now. You're upset because I described something you did with... That's the loveliest thing I've done for you. You bought a game. Yeah. I birthed you two humans. I prefer the game. Okay. I don't know what to tell you. My wife bought me the new FIFA years back.
27:56Clair Buckley:Unbeknownst to her, I secretly opened it and swapped it for an old version so I could play the new one. Oh, Dad, oh, that's not nice. I got an angry call at work. One of my two sons had found it and played the game and told her it was the new one, five-year-old grass. She has never let me forget, and every year she hides my gifts now. It was 25 years ago. That's not... I don't like that. I remember once I found me and my brother went looking. I used to go looking all the time Yeah you go looking and we found them and I actually saw like 90 % in my gifts and then I felt really bad No I just thought that was a part of Christmas I know but I never I just thought that's a part of that's just part of the game Yeah I don't know Don't hate the player I'm really good at hiding your stuff You don't even try and hide what you've bought me You just leave it in the hall in the box No I don't Why not take it up to the office?
28:53Clair Buckley:Yes, you do. And you never go in there because that's where all the video games are. You take it up to the office eventually. Yeah. They sit down the stairs in the hall for ages. Is that right? Yes. I don't know, mate. There's so much stuff that goes on in our house. Yeah. I can't keep on top of it. There's loads of things. Loads of people in there. Way too many people. Fucking four of them. All four of us. Well, there can be one less if you want. All four of us in that same house. Chucking a dog in the mix. you can't okay Jim's here Jim said I had the leftovers of two celebration tubs so I combined all the rubbish ones and taped it shut and then re-gifted it to a friend so I could see the disappointment on their face that's good so she just opened bounties just bounties just a tub full of bounties that would have been hilarious now that's controversial though I don't mind a bounty to be fair I don't mind a bounty but it's definitely one of the shitter celebrations for sure yeah do you remember we played the game What?
29:51The other year where we put this is how crazy our Christmas gets right?
29:56Clair Buckley:This is when we've done some mushrooms. We put we put in order your favourite celebrations your favourite heroes your favourite roses and they got points and stuff and we did it yeah so this is like top tier I mean the best celebration is Galaxy Caramel I like a Galaxy Caramel Galaxy Caramel is the best one Malteser oof yeah what about Quality Street what about Roses I'm not a huge fan of roses the only roses I like is the barrel the gold barrel the caramel barrel caramel see I'm very is that roses what's the big purple one is that quality street that's quality street yeah I'm not a huge fan of the big purple one because it's got a nut in the middle I love the purple one I like the big penny the chewy toffee the big flat penny one oh yeah they're the worst ones they're the ones that your granddads would have they're the best ones and they just sit there with their teeth out going they're the best ones they're the worst ones That's what they gave them like in the trenches or something Well that'd have been fine I don't like Quality Street and roses because they're all full of like strawberry and orange No there's only a couple Quality Street are great I love the little triangle those green triangle ones they're sort of hazelnutty No I don't like nuts Well clearly Apart from Coleman's Apart from Coleman's Listen I could talk to you all day long about Well hold on because Gareth said I wrapped up a few sex toys for the missies A few?
31:19Clair Buckley:How many are there? There's only like one. There's only the main one, isn't there? It's the dildo. What else? Is there more, is there? Well, there's the butt plug, famously. Oh, yeah, the butt plug. Anal beads. What's the Gaia do? Is there a Gaia sex toy? Is there a Gaia? Not you, Gaia. Gaia, have you brought out some sex toys? A little blow-up guy. I'd love a little blow-up guy. I'm going to clean out my rage just in time for Christmas. There's the fleshlight. I just don't think that's going to beat the hand You want to try it? Shall I get you a flashlight for Christmas? Get me a flashlight for Christmas I'll tell you how I get on with it Well hold on So listen to what Gareth said Yeah He wrapped up a few sex toys for his missus Her mum accidentally opened them Well you're asking for trouble there aren't you?
32:06Give them privately
32:07Clair Buckley:Yeah just after the Christmas day's all done and dusted And you're winding down for the evening Oh I got you something I got a lot of electricity Didn't you do that for me once? Go on I can't remember what it was but it was later on in We Did Have People Done maybe this can't go in because I can't actually remember what was it? this is very private because you said to me later oh I've got you something yeah what was it? I forget well I'll remind you later oh Jesus Claire that's very private so was it a dildo? I'll remind you later It was very, very weird and freaky. Remember when you had the whip once?
32:52Clair Buckley:Claire. It wasn't a whip, it was a riding crop. Yeah.
32:59And we had to stop using that because I whipped myself on the balls with it. No. Yeah, you did. But also my sister found it. Your sister found it when she was like 12 or something. She was like, are you doing horse ride thinking? and I was like, yeah, I'm thinking of getting back in here. It was a joke.
33:14Clair Buckley:It was sort of like a joke gift, by the way. It wasn't like we're not those kind of people, really. We didn't use it. Ironically. Like it was like. James, you loved it. Oh, well, I was enjoying it. I don't need the whip to enjoy it. No, yeah, sure. Have a whale of a time in that situation. Sure, sure, sure, sure. Gareth, thank you for your message. Lesson learned. Jared has a message here. I was on. Whoa. Jared says, I was on the 1 % Club Christmas special, told everyone to watch, and then got completely cut from the episode. I was gutted. How do you get cut from that? Because you have to see people.
33:53Yeah, but if like 30 people go on one question, they only talk to a couple.
33:58Clair Buckley:I'm going to be honest, right? Yeah, but he must have known that he had some kind of interaction. Well, he probably did and he got cut. That's what I'm saying. Well, Jared, I don't want to rub any salt in the wound. Yeah. I've seen some of those interactions from 1 % Club and I've sat there and I just assume that they must use, a bit like this podcast, they must squeeze every drop of juice out of that. Yeah. Because some of the conversations they have, I mean, it is like this podcast. It is just. No, come on. One always buy dessert. You'll have someone and go, I have a collection of shirts and stuff like that.
34:32Clair Buckley:Oh, tell us about your shirts then. Yeah. Do you know what I mean? Right. I'm going to have some more beer. Yeah, let's have a quick little break, Claire. Catch our breath. We're going to be back with a little Christmas-themed strike at Buckley. This episode is brought to you by eBay. Right, Claire, we've accumulated a fair amount of stuff in our life together. So seeing as it's free and pretty easy to sell on eBay, I thought we'd better have a chat about what we could sell. Oh, yeah, free, you say? I like this. Well, the first thing I can think of, James, I hate to say it, mate, How many barbecues have you got?
35:09Clair Buckley:I've got six. Well, you know, maybe we could... Maybe we could. Maybe we could. Maybe we could get rid of one of our barbecues. Maybe we could get rid of one of our children. Which one are you going to pick? No, but I reckon we could make a few quid off a barbecue. Of course we could. And somebody might actually use it. Of course we could. Well, James, when it's this easy to sell for free, you can't help but say when it's eBay. It does exclude vehicles and business sellers, though. For somebody who played one of the rudest little guys on TV you get very flustered when we talk about sex Listen, I've always been, and I don't think it's cool these days, but I've just been a very I'm a bog standard guy when it comes to that sort of thing.
35:51To be fair, neither of us are. I'd say we're both quite
35:54Clair Buckley:No, but I think people, and you know more power to them, they brag about how adventurous they can be Right. I just, you know, I like to keep things simple
36:06Clair Buckley:simple but effective don't get me wrong i'd probably be up for getting a bit more freaky and doing some weird shit with you or whatever listen but i worry that's not true no no that's one of the best clips that's one of people's favorite clips on one of your vlogs when we're talking about it and you go oh i think people think we're quite vanilla and i'm like i don't think people do think i'm vanilla right and then i don't even remember this you're like yeah well we do get freaky and I'm like yeah but the only time we get freaky is if I instigate the freakiness you're not a freaky I don't I'm up for freakiness but I don't I don't want to call those shots no because I worry if we were to ever split up then you've got some stuff on me and you can go you should see you should see some of the weird shit he's into why what do you want I was going to say what do you want to get but I'll let you discover those things and I'll just go yeah I've never thought about that but we can try it Sure, whatever.
37:02I'm like lying asleep and James is like whispering stuff into my ear. Use the nipple clamps.
37:08Clair Buckley:Slap him a bit more. I wouldn't mind if you slap me about a bit more. I know, you say that all the time. And you've still not done it. Not during sex. No. I'll slap you during sex. Do it. Okay. Not hard. Well then, see, no, you can't half-ass it then. Either do it or don't. Yeah. No, we'll leave it. Right, what are we doing here? It is time for a feature known as Strike It Buckley.
37:36Thank you, Paige.
37:39Clair Buckley:Merry Christmas, everyone. Okay, welcome to Strike It Buckley, the fast-paced trivia game show presented by yours truly, Claire Buckley. Thank you, Paige. Freaky Claire Buckley. Jimmy. Yes. As this week's theme has been all about Christmas slash freaky sex, today we are testing your festive knowledge because who doesn't love a Christmas freaky sex quiz? It's just a Christmas quiz. Oh, okay. Right, you ready? Yes. True or false. Anal beads... In the 90s... Yes. Look at them. Go on. In the 90s, Woolworths sold a turkey flavoured pot noodle called Christmas Dinner in a Cup. I reckon that is true.
38:33Clair Buckley:That sounds so 90s. And if that isn't true, I'm going to be very upset. True. That's classic 90s. The 90s were a time where anything could happen. Anything was possible. Yeah. And it even came with a little sachet of cranberry sauce. Gross. Posh. I'm surprised that is. Stick around. Question number two. In Catalonia. Yeah. Spain. People add a very unique figure to the nativity scene called the Cooganer. What is he doing? Singing carols, building a snowman, going to the toilet or wrapping gifts? I bet he's going to the toilet. Well, obviously. Otherwise, what's the point of the question? There we go, yeah.
39:17Clair Buckley:That's interesting. In the nativity scene, a Cooganer translates as the... Go on. A cooganah translates as the defecator There we go Is a traditional Catalan figurine Typically depicting a peasant farmer in a squatting position Which is a popular element in Christmas nativity scenes There we go That's what's missing The defecator I feel like Marvel were only a couple of months away from that Now that's the role you could audition for Yeah I'll do that, I'll do the defecator Question number three What was the must-have Christmas toy that caused full-on riots in UK shops in 1993? Do you want the options?
39:59Clair Buckley:Hang on, give me a second. Okay. Give me a second. 93. What was big in 93? Caused full-on riots in UK shops. Game Boy was 90. 93. The year before the PlayStation. What happened in 93? What were they doing in 93? Turtles. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Go on. Game Boy. Yeah. Furby. Yeah. Thunderbirds Tracy Island. Yeah. Or Buzz Lightyear. So after the Game Boy, before Toy Story, Toy Story was 1994. Now Christmas 99... I thought Toy Story was 96. No, Toy Story was Christmas 1994. Now there was genuinely a buzz... There was a massive thing about the Buzz Lightyear. and my dad used to work for Parcel Force and used to deliver the Buzz Light Years to the Disney store in Lakeside and my teacher, he would be like, you cannot get these for love nor money.
41:02Clair Buckley:Like even the ones that he was delivering were already bought. They were pre-ordered. Like it was insane how these Buzz Light Years were getting snapped up. My teacher at the time, I think I was in year four, my teacher at the time said, oh, I need to get a Buzz Light Year. Does anyone know how I can get one? And I said, I actually have some inside information about that. My dad delivers the Buzz Light years to Lakeside. You cannot get them. You cannot get them. And I said exactly what he said to me. Even the ones that he's delivering have already been bought. As soon as they go to the shop, he delivers them, they're already done.
41:37Clair Buckley:You cannot get them. She went, don't be so stupid. Of course I'll be able to get one, you stupid boy. I was about fucking nine. Imagine talking to a kid like that. And I was trying to help her out. I've never forgot that. Clearly. She said, don't be so stupid, you stupid boy. I'm sorry. I'm getting angry now. But anyway, what was the... So, it's not the Game Boy. It's not the Buzz Lightyear. What was the other ones? Furby or Thunderbirds, Tracy Island. Furby, I feel like, was 98. So, I'm going to go Tracy Island, even though that was the 60s. I know, yeah. But Thunderbirds was a huge thing when I was a kid in the 90s.
42:14Clair Buckley:and I'm going to go I'm going to go Tracy Island fucking brilliant man we've got to stop playing this game because you can't just fucking answer a question no I'm doing the thing we've got to drag it out I'm doing the deal or no deal thing I'm doing the I'm doing the sort of oh what makes you think that for millionaire where they do go well no it's not this no it's not that so I'm going to go for this right but you only do that once no but otherwise I used to say this all the time a deal or no deal I'd be like it'd take me three minutes I just go right that one that one and that one bop bop bop right that one bop right but they have to go why have you gone for that one I go I don't fucking know I'm just picking numbers at random what do you want from me Noel right question number four in Iceland they tell children about a festive creature called the Yule Cat sounds cute right does it mum does it shit what exactly does it shit on your doorstep or something what exactly or it steals something go on what exactly does this Christmas kitty do now I feel like I've read about this I think if you give me some answers, it's going to click in my brain.
43:15Clair Buckley:It's all going to come together. Okay, it delivers presents to good children. No. It sleeps by the fire. It gobbles up anyone who doesn't get new clothes for Christmas. Or it judges your tree decorations. I think it's the gobbling up anyone. Obviously. Why are you saying obviously? Because it's the only one that's... Weird. Yeah. No, but they were all weird answers. Yeah, but it's the only one that makes sense. I feel like I was reading about that. It gobbles up anyone who doesn't get new clothes for Christmas. Also, gobble means something else in Scotland, guys. Well, it means the same down here as well.
43:50Clair Buckley:Oh, does it? I have a little gobble on this baby. He's a gobble. Yeah, that's what you say to me. Anyway, the only reason why I feel like I read about that recently because I was trying to find an interesting fact for my friend Joe Thomas, who we do a podcast together called Joe and James Fact Up. Come check it out. Don't be fucking peddling your new podcast on mine. Honestly, no one from this podcast likes it. Comments are like, ooh, shit without Claire. Hey! Right, number five. Which country is home to the eerie Christmas custom where people parade a horse's skull on a stick singing outside pubs?
44:25Clair Buckley:Go on. Ireland, Scotland, Wales or Iceland? Whoa, Wales. It is Wales. Yeah. Again, I read about it. I was trying to find interesting facts from my other podcast. The Mary Lude. A creepy Welsh tradition where a horsey skull draped in ribbons and a sheet is carried from door to door demanding entry through song. Draped in ribbons and shit? What did you say? Ribbons and a sheet. Oh, I thought you were like draped in ribbons and shit and just... Next. Question number six. True or false? Go on. Santa Claus only started wearing red because of Coca-Cola adverts in the 1930s. False. It's a common misconception.
45:05Coca-Cola popularised the red suit, but Santa had been rocking red robes for centuries before that. I'm reading, by the way, that's not how I talk. Question number seven.
45:16Clair Buckley:Am I 100 % so far? Go on. Which Christmas TV ad was so emotional it made half the UK cry in 2011? Who took that poll? How do you know that? Made half the UK cry. I'm sure we're embellishing a little bit. Which Christmas TV ad was so emotional it made half the UK cry in 2011? I'm going to say John Lewis because that's what it always is. I couldn't tell you what the advert was. It was called The Long Wait. In John Lewis's 2011 ad, The Long Wait, a little boy impatient for Christmas morning turns out not to be eager to open his own presents but to give his presents instead. That doesn't exist. A little weirdo.
46:02That's a lie.
46:03Clair Buckley:He's going to grow up to be a fucking serial killer or something. Do you know, listen, I'm honestly not trying to be a Scrooge, but see the John Lewis Christmas advert stuff? It does my fucking boxing. Oh, my God, what are they going to do this year? Oh, they're always so meaningful and emotional. Shut up. I don't think they are. No, they're fucking shite. And they're too long. We tried to watch one the other day. Yeah, some bloke that... Cam was trying to... Grant was trying to show us it on his phone, and we all switched off. This is taking too long. Yeah, I was like, this is really boring. Anyway, number eight.
46:33Which country celebrates Christmas with a witch who delivers gifts instead of Santa?
46:38Clair Buckley:Again, I know this. What's the answer then? You're not going to give me the options? What, you said you knew it? I just need the options just to remind me. Hang on, I'm going to go maybe Denmark, but let me know. No. Italy, Sweden, France or Iceland? Oh, I don't know actually. I'm going to go Italy.
46:59Her name is La Befana.
47:02Clair Buckley:I bet she is. I don't get it. It sounds like the merging of the words labia and fanny all in one go. Okay. She flies on a broomstick on the night of January 5th, which is the eve of Epiphany, delivering sweets and gifts to good children and lumps of coal to the naughty ones. Right. I feel like she's encroaching on Santa. It's a bit familiar, that one, isn't it? Come on, Bufana. I wonder if there's a turf war. Right, question number nine. In Greenland, what's one of the traditional Christmas delicacies? Penguin pudding, whale blubber truffles, fermented seabirds, or an iceberg lettuce salad? Right, so a traditional Christmas delicacy in Greenland.
47:57Clair Buckley:The whale one, the whale truffles. It's Penguin then No you can't eat a penguin You can do in those types of places mate It's either eat or be eaten In Greenland Yeah It's fermented sea buds Which is known as kivvyak A type of fermented sea bud Yeah yeah Right Number 10 Go on Which of these 90s kids TV characters Did not release a Christmas single? Right Blobby Bob the Builder Chuckle Brothers or Zig and Zag who didn't release Chuckle Brothers Zig and Zag did Bob the Builder did Blobby did I had Blobby on cassette The Chuckle Brothers I used to love Zig and Zag They didn't release a Christmas single but they did release To Me To You Bruv with Tinshy Strider in 2014 but it wasn't a Christmas song Is that the last one?
48:59That's it, yeah.
49:01Clair Buckley:90%. Nine out of ten. What did you get wrong? Oh, the Seabirds. The Seabirds one. Nine out of ten. There you go. Do I get a round of applause? Okay, thanks. Is that how we'd end our game show? Yeah, nine out of ten.
49:22Clair Buckley:Anyway, that was a little bit of a... Well, thank you very much. Is this why we don't get asked to do stuff? Have you noticed that other couples who do these things, like the couple-y podcasts and stuff, they all end up doing other... You see them, they're popping up on telly and adverts and stuff. We don't get fucking asked anything like that. Why not? We're a threat, mate. We're a threat. It's because we act like this, isn't it? And I can see you. I'm watching you all. I say I'm watching you all. Not really, but I can see people have gone, we're being too happy and we're being too entertaining.
49:54Clair Buckley:Let's whinge and moan a bit more. Just saying. I see you out there just fucking took a whole shtick you think they're copying us? a little bit yeah well that was our whole thing we were like we should do a podcast we should do a couples podcast and everyone was like well there's loads of couples podcasts and we were like well ours will be different because ours will be us hating each other and people will like that and they'll go yeah that's our fucking married couple who have been together for so long talked to each other yeah they're starting to sort of are they? how are they still getting on the telly?
50:23in adverts in on fucking
50:25Clair Buckley:Also, to be fair on us, Claire, we don't mind telling people to fuck off and things like that. Not only are we not up everyone else's arse, we're just quite mean and miserable to people. This isn't an act. This isn't, yeah? And that's why we won't be successful. However, on that lovely note, we should leave it there. I don't want to be. I know, because there's a price to it and I'm not prepared to pay it. No, fucking suck. What, I've got to pretend to enjoy it. Do you know what I mean? Fuck off. Fuck off. That's it for this week's episode of The Buckleys. Thank you very much for listening.
