In short

The Buckleys episode “Clair’s Awkward Blunder” is mostly a chat about embarrassing moments, plus a few side rants (politics-by-moan, scarcity/supply-and-demand, and conspiracy-ish horror stories).

Key claims

Claire and James argue they’re not “political” despite getting attention for complaining about council tax/garden waste fees; scarcity (e.g., Adidas Sambas) is driven by supply-and-demand and possibly marketing; and Annabelle (from The Conjuring) can be deadly, though James dismisses it.

Notable examples

listener Luke gets hit in the face by a window blind on a tram, then realizes the manager he apologizes to has a partially blind daughter; Claire falls in a posh restaurant after a “slope” and runs to the toilet; Claire also orders A5 Wagyu marked “MP” and it turns out to be about £300, later everyone chips in.

I was like, what's going on? So supply and demand. Yeah. You don't want to have more supply than demand. That's why I only have sex with you like once a week. Yeah. 4:58And what are they? Raisins. Nobody wants. No. Fruit in their chocolate. Not at all. Have you ever had fruit and nut? No, that's not for me. I don't like nuts. I don't like to swallow nuts as we've established. I just like to suck them for a little bit. I love a whole nut. I do like whole nut. A little bit of hazelnut in my chocolate. No. As soon as you start putting fruit in there, you can fuck off. Right. This is the podcast where we sit down, have a chat, moan a bit, and invite you into our lives. Come on in. Welcome. 6:23Stop making it out as if you are either me or Claire. It's fucking weird. It's getting on my tits. You tell them, babe. What's been going on in our lives this week, Claire? You've been up too much? um not really no you've got nothing going on i've um i've gone all political oh god i've uh yeah you have i've hit the zeitgeist i'm uh you know fucking power to the people yeah i've had a lot of uh i'd this was weeks ago i said something about my bins yeah i was annoyed about the bins yeah um how even though my council tax has gone up i'm having to pay an extra special fee for my garden waste. Rah, rah, rah.

04Rah, rah, rah. Right? Yeah. A lot of people were doing that. I was going, why? Why am I paying more and you're doing less? Rah, rah, rah, rah, rah. There was a lot of that going on. Yeah. Got invited onto LBC. Got an email. Twice. Yeah. They've emailed twice. They've sent a follow-up. Would James like to be a guest on LBC? We'd love to talk to him about his views on the council. I've had people coming up to me. I was at the pub a week or so ago. the barman shook my hand he was like just gotta say what you said about the council tax that was that was smart I just went oh I just like moaning oh god I just enjoy moaning and that's my point as well and a lot of people have like been putting me in some sort of political side right like yeah he's yeah yeah absolutely right on good for him these fucking lefty liberals right whatever right I'm not on any side and also for the record I'm not political at all I don't really give a fuck there's enough idiots off the television telling people what they think yeah I've never wanted to be that guy but I've slipped into it you did I'm going to be honest Claire it felt good it felt really gratifying oh no it did no it did it did feel good like I didn't think that whinging about the garden waste bin was a sort of hot political topic Anything can be But People were behind me I struck a cold You are right You are right It is annoying I struck a cold Do you know what I was like I get it now I get why all these people Are so outspoken And they just go Fucking mental with it Because what if you land On the wrong side of it Then you'll be sorry No but you've just Got to be clever about it You've just got to go Like someone like me I'd be able to understand What everyone's thinking Right Okay And I could say some shit let's not please but it was nice I liked it I liked it but that's me done for the moment for political stuff and I'm not going to go on LBC imagine that and joining us today is James Buckley James I hear you've got a problem with the blah blah blah so yeah that was interesting I went to see Oasis again obviously not this week again it would have been a couple of weeks ago by the time this comes out And I still didn't get to go away yet No They're so good They're the greatest band ever They're just the greatest band They're not the greatest band They are They're not the greatest band ever They're so good Better than the Beatles I don't know I've not seen the Beatles live And I never will I'm just telling you Right now 2025 The year of the 90s This second This moment They're the greatest band on the planet Nothing against women Go on A fucking group of them in front of me and my mate Chris nattering away at the Oasis gig at the Oasis gig they'd cosplayed as Oasis fans at one point one of them went off and then came back and bought some t-shirts and some bucket hats and was like passing them around and they like put them over their clothes and I'm like look at us look we look like fucking Oasis fans it was fucking driving me mental Right.

24Then one of them went off and came back with meals. It was like chicken and chips and stuff like that and like burgers and things. I'm like, oh, here you go. I was going. Is that a problem that people want to eat? You're at an Oasis gig. Go to a pub garden. If you want to, if you're going out for a meal, go somewhere else. And also because the music's loud, it's a gig in a stadium. Yeah. They had to talk really loud so they could hear each other. and I'm trying to fucking sing along to Little By Little or something and I'm hearing this like yeah I know yeah and I was going to Chris this is driving me mental my mate Chris was going I'm going to boot him in a minute I get that because we went to go and see The Who a couple of years ago and there was nothing against women I love women they're great they're really good sometimes they just get it wrong there was two women in frontiers and they had partners at either side but they talked all the way through it and that sounds crazy unless you've had it happen but all I could hear was them talking and it was like because they were talking and they wanted to hear each other they had to talk above the music I was like will you shut the fuck up yeah no I get that yeah that's annoying fucking Oasis are playing right in front of you like you should be anywhere else go away outside no but went to see them again the greatest band in the world and after about a dozen or so songs when I realised I'd been singing along and everyone else's as well it's all the hits I think little by little I think it's the only post 2000s song that they sing oh they don't do any don't believe the truth no no dig out your soul thank god but everyone knows every word of every song so after about a dozen songs and I've not missed a word at all, like I've sang along to every single word, you could be annoying the people behind you, maybe, maybe they're saying I wish he would stop fucking singing, I'm trying to hear everyone's singing, everyone's singing, well you day is fine it's everybody else's annoying, I think so yeah I think so, no I know you think so I suddenly realised and I'd be like another song would come out and I'd go oh my god, oh this song means so much to me, oh I remember this happened when I was listening to that song and this is such an integral part of my life this music like emotional genuinely emotional yeah even my mate Chris who was with me was like mate I could start crying yeah I could literally start crying yeah I sort of caught myself and I was like mate you are the Oasis equivalent of a Swifty it was that much i remember i remember a thing came up on my instagram it's three girls sat on the pavement i've seen that yeah outside of a taylor swift gig and one song comes on they're like this song saved my life like and i was like when i watched that i had your reaction i was like fucking what yeah that is awful yeah go away yeah and then i was a bit like no no that's me that's me that's me with oasis no because you don't react like that i've seen that video she's not screaming and shaking i was there or thereabouts no i was just like i am an oasis swifty when we went to see paul mccartney i cried basically all the way through that oh it's great like because because all the a lot of the songs meant so much to me and and to see him doing it in person i was like oh my god it's really special yeah it's genuinely spiritual there's something there's something no but there is there's something literally a mass of people all being into the same thing all having the same energy and all being happy and there's something yeah it's cool yeah yeah i don't see outside the gig screaming and crying no no um i'm not quite there yet but you lost yourself a little bit i am an oasis version of the swifty fair enough fair enough as long as you don't become a swifty version of a swifty we'll be all right very quickly just very quickly why is everything and i mean everything so scarce now what do you mean that's not the reaction i thought i was gonna get i thought you were gonna jump i thought you were gonna jump right on board this is literally a conversation we had like two days ago.

02Everything's sold out. Sambas. Everything's sold out. I can't get a pair of fucking, listen, I'm wearing Sambas right now but good lord, can you get a pair of Sambas for love nor money these days? What's going on? Is that Sambas? Yeah. Everybody suddenly wants them. They've always been around. They're like a staple trainer. Yeah, I know. I've tried to buy a pair of Sambas or the equivalent or something like that. It's like, we're sold out. Join the waiting list and we'll let you know when they're available. Do you think that's some sort of advertising ploy though to make it seem like they're in demand so then they can bring them back hike the price up a little bit and everybody will jump on let me just put my little lbc hat on back on again but that is a thing so scarcity equals profit yeah if something is scarce and not that many people can so supply and demand yeah you don't want to have too much supply you don't want to have more supply than demand that's why i only have sex with you like once a week yeah i got to keep you keep you wanting it in demand i'm gonna be honest claire i'd still demand i'd still be very demanding do you know what i mean yes and i feel like now this is trickled down to your trainer your adidas trainer where they're like we've got about 100 ,000 pairs in the factory but we'll say they're sold out for now.

27So do you think that's what's happening? You think they're lying? I think everyone's doing it. I think the whole world's gone mental. The whole world's gone mad. Right, let me take my LBC cap off. Claire, you've got something to talk about. Yeah, go on. So you know the Annabelle doll from The Conjuring films, right? That's a real doll and it's kept in this glass glass box i saw this on the news by the way when i say news i mean instagram

58it's kept in this glass box and it has been for years and years and years and years and ed and lorraine warren's house yeah right and they've got all these different artifacts and things no they're both dead for people who don't know ed and lorraine warren were they were ghostbusters yeah they were basically ghostbusters they were very famous they did a lot of stuff on the in the media circuit in the sort of 60s and 70s they did amityville if you know the conjuring film series yeah uh the conjuring franchise yeah ed and lorraine warren they were a married couple based on them yes and they would often take things so they would go to families and houses who were bothered by demons or ghosts or possession or whatever and they would quite often take what they thought was attached or what the the spirit had attached to they would take it and keep it and they've got this huge room in their house or just off their house where it's got all these things in it and annabelle's probably the most famous because of the film it's a children's doll so the the movie doll looks really scary it doesn't look like that it's like a little patchwork like string hair doll and the first time it was taken a and god knows how long and you have to have a priest there when the box is opened why you like this is serious so there's this guy who does um i think it's a podcast he does um and it's like horror stuff and all that kind of thing and he went on tour he went on the road and he wanted to take the annabelle doll on tour with him and there's a picture of him in the warren's house with a priest taking the annabelle doll at the case and putting it into another little case so that he can take it on tour right he did one night of the tour the team went to go get him the next morning dead coincidence in his hotel room coincidence he was young and then also the police the like people came out and were like oh no it's not it's not suspicious circumstances and I was like yeah we know of course it's not going to be suspicious circumstances he just he died yeah why what did it Claire you know why it was a heart attack wasn't it no no it wasn't they don't have a reason yet oh they do have a reason and Claire.

33They don't. They just stop living. There'll be something. They would have gone, oh, he's had a heart attack or something. Annabelle killed him. I'm telling you. It's a coincidence. What a coincidence, though. Oh, yeah, it's mental. The first guy to take her out in a book. See, I don't know if that's true. It is. Because they use all that language, you know, when you watch the news on Instagram, they say things like, it's the first time it's ever happened. No, she's been moved around and stuff, but she's always in a glass box. Yeah, and they put her in another a glass box there was a priest there so it shouldn't have happened yeah but the priest didn't go on tour he did one night well the priest should have gone on tour i'm telling you you shouldn't mess with stuff like that i don't think you should mess stuff with that i don't believe in it and i've told you this before i don't believe in it you're just fucking calling an oasis gig spiritual and you don't believe in you know i mean come on you really don't believe in ghosts oh i do never seen one i have you are you talking about that dog claire saw a ghost I wasn't going to say it was a dog, but I did.

32I saw the ghost of a dog. No, you were a child and it was in the middle of the night and you were asleep. I wasn't asleep. I was awake because I was going to the toilet. Yeah, but you were still... And there was a big black dog and its eyes were glowing because it was dark, you know, when dogs' eyes go green. And it was sitting at the top of the stairs and then it walked down the stairs and disappeared. And it was at my granny's house and they didn't have a dog. Yeah, it's more likely... I was awake. I was getting up to go to the toilet. Now, I do think your mind was playing tricks on you. That's obviously what happened there.

05It's even more likely that it was just a dog. It wasn't a dog because it disappeared. It went down the stairs and it just... Like smoke? No, there was no smoke, but... It dispersed. It did, yeah. I saw it with my own eyes and I'll never forget it. It's not true. It is true. It is true. It's 100 % true. And there's so many times that things fly off the counter. And in our house, it happens all the time. What's flying off the counter? You know, the other day, you know, you ordered some new tubes of toothpaste for everybody. And we put one in the guest bathroom. And I had one in the kitchen. I was waiting to take it upstairs.

47And I sat it on the side. And I made a cup of tea. And I was doing breakfast for Jude. And it just flew off the counter. I didn't even tell you about it because I know you don't believe it. Such bullshit. it. It did. Well ghosts they need to brush their teeth as well don't they? Well I'm telling you. Anyway Annabelle killed a guy. Definitely didn't. Speaking of the place where we get our news source Instagram. I've got a little algorithm it's the married in the year in the suburbs guy. It's still going strong. It's still going strong on my Instagram. The what? The bloke with the guitar. Married in the year in the suburbs.

25With a kid on her way in three. Live in the American dream. I've never actually seen it. You must have seen it. I have not. Oh, it's taken the world by storm. What? It's a global sensation. Right, but here's the thing about algorithm. It's different for everybody. I don't get that stuff coming up. No, it's the same. It's the same for everyone. Got it. It's the same for everyone. I get priests taking dolls out of glass cases. But yeah, that Meridian in the suburbs guy, there's so much stuff coming out about it. I love it. Absolutely great because I hate him. He thinks he's something, this guy. He really thinks he's fucking doing something.

00I want to go, what's wrong with getting married? What's wrong with getting married and owning a house in the suburbs and bringing up a family? That, that's the goal. It's the American dream. That's the goal. Living the American dream. That is the goal, mate. Grow the fuck up. Just spending your days in your mum and dad's house singing on an acoustic guitar in your socks. You do that. Cool. While you're being a square and owning your own house and stuff, I'm going to be here being an artist. alright fucking dickhead anyway good luck with that I might buy you some shoes one day does he do it in his socks yeah he does it in his socks oh okay he keeps standing up on his tiptoes while he's singing the whole thing there's so many layers okay what is he called for people who don't know what you're talking about so they can look him up Claire you're the only person on the planet that doesn't know what I'm talking about oh okay you are the only person and Katie okay right watch the video because if you watch it Listen I already hate him I'm sure I will I know you'll be so angry Right You'll be married in a year in the suburbs With a kid on the way In three Convincing yourself You're living the American dream And I'll be dancing I'm a cow The kid who got it all on convincing myself one day I'll ride last week I'll tell you who the problem is there it's the people running about him I think they're paid the people running about him?

38I think they're paid, but look, he's in his little socks for some reason the guy's a knob standing up on his tiptoes, he's got a bandana on just everything about it I mean, well, you know what they say, there's always some cunt with a guitar, isn't there? thinks they can do something. Yeah, I mean, and that was what I wanted to say. This episode is brought to you by Diet Coke. Claire, do you know what I don't get? Trends. No. Tried following them once, bought a pair of super skinny jeans, nearly passed out. And I did not appreciate having to help you out of them either. Never again. Completely fair.

14Which is why I make my own trends now, like building another barbecue I don't need or collecting obscure handheld consoles. and soldering random things in the kitchen. It's much safer. And I like to unwind by watching a little horror film where everyone obviously dies horribly at the end. Relaxes me. You do you, babe. The point is, it's always better to just be yourself and own your tastes, whatever you're doing, even when you're having a little Diet Coke break, like we are now. And Diet Coke want to celebrate your individuality with some lovely Diet Coke goodies. Head to Sierra or Sierra.com for the brands you want at the prices that let you do it all. From athletic to athletic-ish, Sierra's got it. Hey Claire. Yes? I've got a little email for you. I say a little email. This better be good. Jesus Christ. I got an email from Luke. Okay. Subject is Blind Fury. I'll read it and we'll find out why we're reading this together, shall we?

47Okay. Just a little story for you. I feel like this is when I say I've just got a little moan for you. Hey, whoa, I can see how long this is. I was on a tram in Sheffield heading to work. The tram was pretty busy and opposite, across the aisle, there was a man holding a long, thin box. And because it was busy, people kept walking past, bumping into it. I noticed it was a blind for a window. It was a window blind. He was taking his blinds out for the day. As we took a corner, it slipped from his grip and twatted me right in the face. Oh, I'd be furious. I passed it back to him, blurting out, oh no, I'm blind.

28And laughed. Just a little tongue-in-cheek comment. Nothing crazy. Just to show him that I wasn't pissed off. Yeah. You know. Well, fuck me. I immediately heard two gasps from the people opposite me who were staring in disgust. I sat there, bright red, embarrassed. I'd even tried to make a joke. I didn't understand why everyone was looking at me, though. Two or three stops later... Oh, no. The man jumped up to get off, holding the hand of a young kid. The guy with the box had completely blocked my view of them. the kid was rocking a pair of sunglasses and a white cone oh no and the dad was saying things like watch the step it's busy and can you feel the button as they got off the tram I was absolutely fucking mortified I got off five stops early and walked 45 minutes to work turned up late and explained my lateness to my manager who it turns out has a partially blind daughter, Jesus Christ.

36Oh, God. Is this an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm? I wanted... Isn't it? I wanted the ground to swallow me up. Have you ever been in a situation like this? I hope. Which brings us on, actually, to the theme of this week's podcast. It's called... Embarrassing. It's called Embarrassing Moments. Moments, yeah. Which is quite good. Oh, look. Oh, mate. I mean, great joke, though. You got hit with... What are the chances you get hit with a blind and there's a blind person there? And just to sort of diffuse... And it was a child. Oh, good Lord. Just to diffuse any tension. Yeah, he was trying to be...

16He was trying to be... He was trying to be... Affable. Yeah, because I wouldn't have taken that well. If you're going to get on a train with a blind, hold on to it. Yeah. By the way, the thing, not the person. Oh, good Lord. it's a minefield if you're going to get onto a tram what did you just say then Claire? if you're going to get onto a tram with a blind hold onto it yeah he was he was asking if he could feel the button and everything watch the step he said he was holding onto it we might need to start this whole podcast again no we're good oh poor Luke I feel for you there because obviously that's horrendous and you didn't mean it like that and again oh no I don't know but that is an embarrassing moment it's very embarrassing that is one of those embarrassing moments you've said it and then you god you just wish you could go back 10 minutes and just but it's one of those things that Luke will for the rest of his life even when he's got dementia or something even when he can't remember it'll just hit you even when he can't remember his own kids names he'll remember the time he made a joke about being blind in front of a little blind boy yeah yeah those are the ones that hit you right before you're trying to go to sleep well that was it that's one of the questions here what's the is there is there something that keeps you awake at two o 'clock in the morning now this could not be better timed because we went out for uh we went out for dinner for a friend's birthday on saturday i had a really embarrassing moment um there was a there was quite a few not just in between us fans quite a few fans of the podcast that were pleased to see me and claire in the same place at the same time they couldn't believe their luck i'm so i'm chatting to someone and their kid about how much they love the podcast and claire's behind me next thing i know something it sort of brushes me.

19I look down, Claire's just on the floor. I just fell. Just fell over. You know where to just go. Just fell over. Now you were wearing those really big boots. Yeah, right. And here's the problem. Really high, chunky boots. Which I'm fine in. I'm fine in heels. The problem was we were in front of the bar, right, and there wasn't a step, but there was just like a little like incline. And I don't know what happened. One minute I was standing, the next minute I was on my arse. I fell on my bum in the middle of a very posh, very busy restaurant surrounded by people who were talking to us about the podcast.

04And honestly, I just ran to the toilet and just didn't come out until I knew everybody was leaving. Yeah, and you left me there. And also you didn't help because you just went. Instincts took over you. because all I remember from that because obviously it goes like bloody because I think your brain just wants to forget it but all I remember is looking up at you and you went as if like the fuck are you doing? that was it, I was like the fuck, what's going on? I don't know I don't know what happened from standing to not standing I don't know what happened in between that I don't know what happened it was one of those really and it wasn't like a trip or it's not like my ankle went.

48It's still confusing me. You were standing and then you stopped. You just stopped standing. Your body was just like, I don't want to stand anymore. Oh, it was so bad. Oh, I was so embarrassed. And then obviously... Oh, is she all right? Well, yeah, she'll be fine. I just carried on talking to these people. Oh, it was so embarrassing. There was one time I was at school, I was at secondary school and we were standing at the bus stop and the same thing just happened. I just went done. I don't know. What do I keep telling you? And I think after this weekend, now you are just accepting it. You are clumsy.

27I know, you tell me that all the time. Like, you are a clumsy person. Yeah. You are just quite gung-ho and just sort of, but grace. You need some grace. You need to be more graceful. Yeah. But it was a nice restaurant, wasn't it? Oh, it was so embarrassing. And I went home that night and I was just lying in bed and I was just like, my God. I'll tell you something you should be embarrassed about. What? So we all got food and you decided to get yourself... Don't you dare. I did say to you, you should get that. That'll be nice. I didn't have a clue what that cost. Claire got herself some A5 Wagyu steak, right?

08And it doesn't say a price. You told me to get used. Yes, it was nice. Fine. I'm only winding you up. I couldn't give a fuck. It didn't say a price on the menu. It was mortifying. It was well embarrassing. It said MP, market price, right? First of all, I've got a problem with that. Yeah. You know that saying where it's like, if you have to ask for the price, you can't afford it. Yeah. I couldn't give a fuck if I was a billionaire. How much does this cost? Yeah, you could say anything. I'm not just going to get so far down a line where I'm committed to buying something without knowing how much.

43Yeah. I could be the world's richest man and I'd still be like, I'm not just going to give you a lot. How much does it cost? Yeah. Everything's got a price. What's the price? Anyway, turned out, Claire. Don't say it. No? I'm going to say it. It was about 300 quid's worth of steak that Claire. Everyone else's meal. It was expensive. It was an expensive place. everyone else's meal was maybe about 100 quid something like that it came in claire got 300 quid's worth of steak i don't but i was going but he said he said how much it was it was like oh it's about 150 pounds for 100 grams and you still weren't paying attention or listening obviously or you you don't know measurements do you i don't know measurements no i don't know measurements no and i was like to be fair you ordered for me yeah i was like i was like get a 200 then 200 100 grams because 100 grams isn't enough and i said to you i'm gonna want to try a bit yeah and to be fair i gave everybody everyone had a bit of this we all we all ate it so i'm still i had to pack up hula hoops when i got home yeah because i was hungry i'd made expensive meal when i was starving by the time i got in but i'd barbecue beef hula hoops i've got news for you man everyone that we were eating with has gone away going oh don't say that because i didn't know right that the bills come in and they're going oh we're splitting this are we no we didn't we didn't we did split it everyone everyone chipped in for your 300 pound steak saturday night was the worst night i've had in a long time you had some shockers that i had an absolute shocker that night i'd rather forget about it thank you for bringing it up no I know I wouldn't have brought it up and do you know what you said this to me on the train today I know and that's the thing right I wouldn't have brought it up because I don't because it was genuinely embarrassing it wasn't it wasn't embarrassing where you can be in on the joke and sort of turn it into an anecdote for the podcast I was like no I fell I fell I was like I'm not going to bring that up on the podcast but checked out the theme checked out the theme and I was just like embarrassing I've got to bring it We've got to bring it up.

56Now I had a shocker at the weekend. You did, mate. So I'm not leaving the house for a while. I'm going to fall. And I'll tell you what, because I was going to say I'm going to fall in the comfort of my own home. And I did. I fell coming out the garage the other day. Claire, when we first started going out, like I went to work one morning. Oh, that was bad. I fell in the shower. Yeah. I'm miles away. I hurt myself. I'm like three hours away. I leave you in the flat. Yeah. I get a text. I'm like, oh, I fell in the shower. I've fallen in the shower. What do you mean you've fallen in the shower? How do you fall in the shower?

35I've slept. But it's not like a big... It was in the flat. It was like the little flat that we used to live in. Yeah, I know. You can't move. You can't fall. There's nowhere to go. I used to hate that shower because I'd lift my arm up and bang my elbow and stuff off the tap. My feet went. My feet keep going for me. I trip a lot. I do trip. I don't fall over a lot No you don't Your body just stops You don't trip over anything There's nothing there There's nothing there to fall over I'm sure there was a little thing there In that restaurant There was There was a little There was a weird little incline Yeah there was a slope Yeah I'm blaming the slope It was the Ramsey slope Oh that was so far isn't it But really great restaurant Oh the food was great And by the way that steak I mean it should be But that steak was very tasty God, it was well good.

24And that's another thing as well that I thought about. Because you know how I don't trust waiters. I've lost trust in them. Right. Because I can put some food away. So it's a restaurant where you order stuff, you order dishes, and everyone can try a bit. I want a meal. I want to know what I've ordered. And I made it very clear. I was going to say, you said that right at the beginning, in front of a table full of our friends. Yeah, I made it very clear. I was like, you order whatever you want. I'm not going to nick yours and they were going oh do you want to try a bit of that James I was going no you're not going to I was going no because when mine turns up you're going to want to go can I have a bit of yours and I'm not it's all just we've all made our choices we've all made our beds we're sleeping them now right I wanted a rice to myself yes an egg fried rice to myself and we could have shared that no we couldn't have did you finish yours I finished mine oh okay because I know I can put food away when I turn up to eat when I'm at a restaurant it's business time for me yeah I couldn't give a fuck if it was someone's 30th birthday or whatever was going on I'm there to eat I'm there to get a job done yeah so when I've had it too many times where a waiter has said oh that was that that'll do three people you only want one of those that will do three people and you go oh okay then and it turns up and I'm like oh that's I mean that's that's a snack That's for you, yeah That's not even enough for me That has happened to us a couple of times So that's why you feel like that I don't mind spending a bit of money 300 quid on a steak Fucking 8 portions of fried rice To make sure everyone's fed If we're all going home and I need to have a nap Then it's worth it for me Yeah I'd rather spend 300 pound and be full Than spend 50 quid and be hungry I'd be furious I will say that steak was unbelievable it was incredible as it should be but it was the most expensive thing I've ever eaten in my life and it was unbelievable however I would rather forget about Saturday because like you say I had an absolute shocker yeah just everything it was really funny for me as well because in your defence I could tell that you didn't understand that that was such a special steak and you said you were going you said to me in the car on the way there you were going you should just get the steak I think that's the only thing you'll like because I'm not an adventurous eater and I was like yeah fine and you knew no but there were other steaks as well there were other steaks but this was the one like the A5 so you tried to embarrass me I didn't try to embarrass you no because I was interested I wanted to taste a bit myself and I said that to you oh so you put it on me oh Claire's getting the 300 steak I could tell that you were just like you were just nodding and going along with like yeah i did a bottle of champagne by then i was like and then when he walked away that was when i said to you because i could tell you weren't listening when he said the price of stuff either because because you had to do some working out yeah no not because he didn't just say oh this is oh it's 35.99 yeah it was oh it's 150 pounds which is expensive by the way per 200 grams yeah i was lost i was and then i explained to you what the price was you went oh no your eyes went all big and looked at me like that you grabbed me you know no this is funny it was very good though and everybody got a bit i shared do you know what's really great claire what is i don't know if you know this um but believe it or not we have a really great production team that work on this uh where where are they they the right stuff to sort of like jog right yeah conversation wrong i think we've hit every single oh no bullet point of things you know what's your go-to move when something embarrassments happens in public yours is just run to the toilet i just run away run away i run away and you know the the the worst thing about that the guy that you were talking to at the time i had just came up i wasn't even there i was there for about three seconds and i went done right i didn't even get a chance to say hello and also people were going it's oh is Claire here also?

38Is Claire also here? I had my one moment. One moment I had. Nobody ever asked to meet me. Nobody cares about me. They all want to talk to me about the end between us. I had one moment and I fell on my fucking ass. It's unbelievable. It's unbelievable. Here's one. But do you know what he said? Go on. He said, oh, my wife really likes Claire but she terrifies me. So I wanted to go in and be like all cool and mysterious and scary. She's not really, she's not that scary. No. She can't even fucking stand up. Fucking idiot. Unbelievable. Here's one. If you've waved back at someone who wasn't waving at you.

16Yeah, I did that all the time. At you. Yeah. So I've got a big problem with the wave, because I'm such a big shot, which I've established. You just think everybody's waving at you? Usually people are. I have a lot of people that do wave at me, that do go, oh, fucking hell, it's that idiot off the television. Yeah. So I do have that a lot, and I do wave back. There has been a couple of times where they're not waving at me. And I go... It's like someone behind me. There's also a thing that I've got with one of our neighbours. What? He always waves at me. I don't like the wave and I don't like to get into the sort of are we doing this or not?

00Do we wave each other or not? Are we on waving terms? Is that what's going on? Right. He does wave at me. So I either do it or I don't. Right. I'm either all in or all out. Yeah. And I make it clear what one I am. Right. So I'll not make, I'll see him and I'll be like, don't make eye contact just in case there's a wave. Look like I'm concentrating, I'm driving the car, I'm concentrating on the roads. Oh, how's the petrol doing? Okay, we're fine. Right? Yeah. And I have seen, like out of the corner of mine, and then you feel fucking awful. Yeah, and then you feel bad, yeah. And it's not because I don't want to wave at him.

37It's because I don't... Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. So, a couple of weeks ago, I'm like, see him on the horizon. I'm like, I'm going to wave your fucking brains out. And the problem was, was it was actually a little bit far away from our house. Right. But I could tell it was him. But maybe he wasn't looking for someone near our road or whatever. Right. Yeah. so I'm starting I'm getting closer I'm getting closer I'm looking right at him like I'm gonna crash not paying attention to anything that's going on there's blind boys trying to walk over and everything right and I'm like this like really waiting for the eye contact waiting for the eye contact and he just flickered his eyes up and I'm like hand up straight away but he just flickered at me.

31He just went back down. Yeah, went back down instantly. But no, he feels bad. Because you do do that. You look up, but you don't pay attention and then you don't realise it until you're already gone. It's a fucking minefield the wave. Yeah, the wave. It's just a big old social fucking bomb about to go off in your face. Yeah, it is. Yeah. Gotta get rid of it. Yeah. It's not as bad as the fall, though. The public fall. No, it's not as bad as the public fall in a dress for no reason like we weren't walking we were stood still no i was standing still after i ran away and went to the toilet i was thinking i should have turned that into a sympathy fall i should have like just protected i'd passed it or something i should and it would have been i don't know is that what would you have gone home in an ambulance yeah if i if i had to go the whole road i would i would have went they would have been you'd got in the ambulance yeah they'd have taken to the hospital yeah on the way to the hospital would you have gone by the way guys so we don't need to do this.

32I think there was a slope. No, I don't know. I don't know. We do have another listener email. Yeah, go on. Which ties into our embarrassing moments thing. It's from Teddy. His subject is just overall mess. He says, so I was just listening. It's my Saturday night, babe. So I was just listening back to the episode of the podcast where the lad said he had to be bollock naked to take a dump as he was scared of getting any shit on his clothing. Yeah. This brought back a memory. I used to work in the paint shop of a luxury car maker. The paint sprayers wore disposable white overalls. One day, one of the sprayers had obviously gone to dump his barrow down the pan.

17Is that a way of taking a shit? Rolling down his overalls and then his clothes underneath. Unknown to him, a brown nugget of shit had somehow found its way into the hood of the paint overall. and he was wandering around like normal carrying it in his fucking hood

37finally someone broke the news thinking he'd die of embarrassment but no he pulled the hood to the front of the neck picked it out said brown nugget and chucked it in the bin with his bare hands washed his hands with paint thinner and carried on with his day there were a few sick noises thrown at him and plenty of abuse. He replied, what's the fucking issue? It's my shit. Now you got to give it to people like that. I like that. I mean, that's absolutely diabolical behaviour. You become invincible. You do. You just become invincible. Okay, well, let me ask you a question, Jimmy. Right? On reflection of my big faux pas, my embarrassing moment I just had, what should I have done?

25You should have gone... In a perfect world, if you take a second to think, Obviously, you don't think of it anything. You die of embarrassment and you run away. What should I have done? What would Larry David have done? You should have gone, how have I fallen on the floor? I was just standing still. And then you go, I knew I shouldn't have worn these boots tonight. I told you, James, that there'd be a problem. You play it off. You talk through it. And you say things like, that's embarrassing. If you say something's embarrassing, it helps diffuse the embarrassment. Okay. That's embarrassing. I'm well embarrassed.

59I'll get me practising for the next time I fall, which inevitably will happen, because apparently I just fall all the time. I don't know what's going on, and I drop stuff all the time. You? Restaurants, I'm constantly dropping cutlery or knocking glasses over. Well, I mean, I've never shat in my own hood. No. So, you know, give me some respect. Not yet. Yeah. Oh, Lord. You must have plopped out the... sometimes if you hold sometimes if you hold I think what's happened is he's held it in too long sometimes you can lose a nugget when you hold it in too long so what was it coming out as he was I think it was yeah I think it was coming up right we'll call it oh please please call it we'll call it there this has been the worst episode of my life that's it for this week's episode of the Buckleys thank you very much for listening remember you can get in touch with your stories and questions by emailing thebuckleys at platformmedia.uk or you can message us at thebuckleyspod on Instagram and TikTok.
