45Love it. Worst podcast in history. Five stars. Yeah. Claire. Yes. What's been going on in our lives this week? Oh, we're not well, are we? Still not well. We're in a... You've dragged me down, we. I know. And I was starting to get better and now I'm gone again. We're... It is the kids a little bit. Harrison Gorda. Harrison's gave it to me. I gave it to Harrison though. You gave it to Harrison. But we can stay away from each other. Yeah. I can't stay away from the kids. No. no and i find it annoying because i can stay away from all of you you can yeah but everyone you're always bothering me everyone all of you please no we're in that classic there'll be loads of families with kids that will understand what we're talking about it's like a sort of sickness feedback loop yeah where one of us starts to feel a bit better and then the other one starts going and then you then re-catch what yeah we're in that loop so i genuinely don't know what we're going to do i feel like we're just going to be ill for the rest of our lives no because you get that all the time we'll be fine but inevitably we went to hockey last night obviously we're never too sick to go to the chieftains game and i was i was and you were ill i was like i looked like i was on smack i was just like
07but we turned up and all the people that we hang out with at the hockey they're all sick as well They're all sick. They were like, yeah, thanks, guys. I was like, oh, it was him. You started it. Listen, it's London. It's having to come into London. You can't blame London for everything. You blame London for a lot of stuff in your life. It's just, I have to come into London. I do the podcast with you. I do this other thing I do with Joe Thomas now. It's getting on trains, getting on the tube. But it is that thing of like, me and Joe, we're old pals. we've got kids and family and stuff like that and you do separately yeah yeah right yeah sorry you do sort of need an excuse to meet up with your mate so you started a podcast yeah pretty much that's the worst and i do i do enjoy i do love it because he's such a fucking weirdo i love him to bits he's such he's the oddest guy i've ever known he's so odd but he's so sweet he's gonna pop up isn't he he's gonna come in on a live show he's gonna be a little special special guest at the Palladium we've managed to sort out some managed to sort out I said Joe are you free on that day you went yeah I went right you're not free anymore this goes out on the day that we do it by the time you hear this episode we'll be at the Palladium who?
26I don't know why we're doing it I don't know why we're doing it fucking your fault I'm sick of you with your ideas what we're doing yeah so we're ill still ill I'm still ill. I don't know if you could, can you... Can you hear it or can I just hear it or does my voice sound different? You know when you think, like every time when I wake up in the morning and I'm like, hello, hello, then I'm like, oh, I sound mental and then I'd say to you all the time, I'm like, do I sound weird? And you're like, no. And I'm like, oh man. Because when you can feel it, you want people to be able to hear it. there's nothing worse than having a really really sore throat yeah and you sound normal yeah i want everybody to know that i'm suffering yeah do you know what i mean oh i know exactly what you mean the worst one is the swallow when it hurts to swallow oh i hate that i don't have that thank god no such wood anyway we are ill the kids are ill anything to moan about from you first of all before I move on.
29No, you go for it, Matt. It's just a quick one. No, I actually don't have anything to moan about, actually. It is just, I just want to respond to a few of the recent comments that we've had recently. You do get recent comments recently, didn't you? But I've been keeping up with the comments. I do love the comments. We've got people, we've got funny people that listen to our podcast. But I'm assuming we've had a few new, a couple of people that have just discovered us and what and they don't quite get what we're about oh really oh no quite understands oh no um that's gonna be a tough one to explain i just want to sort of clear things up if you are new here's a comment that made me laugh actually i can't remember exactly i wrote it down from memory but it was basically the comment was something like Like, so they can't stand when people do use the button at a crossing, but they're also annoyed with people that don't use it properly, right?
28Like, yeah. Yes, there's no pleasing as... It depends on what point I'm trying to prove, all right? I can make completely opposite contradictory... Oh, and you do? I can have complete opposite opinions. All the time? I just like moaning. Yeah. That's all it is. Yeah. I don't really care about any... like I don't really have an opinion I just I just like whinging so much the amount of times you change the rules for yourself yeah you'll say something to me one day yeah this is how you should do this yeah I'm like fine and then a couple of days later you'll be like why are you doing it like that and it's only because you want to make a different point yes yeah I just like moaning I just really like it's my hobby I just love it like I get excited when I've got something to moan about.
20Fine. Fine. Like I don't, I know I'm trying to make some kind of point when I'm moaning. You don't even know what point you're making. But I can't remember them. No. And I don't think you care. No, I don't. No, I don't. I just really, I just get, I really love it. I love, I love whinging. I love moaning. So listen, don't take me seriously in anything I've got to say because I'm just an idiot that doesn't know what they're talking about at all whatsoever. And the word moron has got thrown around a couple of times in the comment section. They've ever been fucking talking about you. They're not talking about you.
55Right, good. They're not talking about you. So, yeah, I just wanted to clear things up, just to remind you how I operate, all right? I don't really know what I'm talking about. And I thought that was obvious. Like, I thought, but a couple of people have, like, latched on to something that we've said. Well, you could argue... And been like, oh, wait a minute. I don't want to go, no, you wait a minute. You could argue that they're the moron. They've missed the whole point of this thing. No. Now we're not slagging the listeners off? No, listen, I'll slag anything off. You know me, and our listeners do get slagging off every once in a while.
31It's got to be a two-way street. Yeah. You can't give it to us and not expect it back. No, I was saying the opposite. I can't give it to them and not expect it back. Yeah, sure, sure. Claire, I've got to say this. Do you like films? love them because I've got a new film out and it's called Mother's Pride and it's out the 6th of March which is the day after this podcast comes out oh you've got a new film tomorrow look at you so go and watch it doing a bit of acting yeah but it's a nice film it's got me in it it's got Martin Clunes in it love Martin Clunes well we'll all check it out for you it'll kill an hour and a half sure yeah and if it's shit we can all moan about it in the comments win win win win that and that's the beauty of moaning you just hit the nail on the head claire there you go you either enjoy something or you can enjoy moaning about something yes that way you're always happy yeah like that's why i do it if we go out for like dinner and we book click quite a nice restaurant we're either gonna have a really nice meal and we're gonna be happy yeah or we're gonna get to go in the car on the way home and be like can you believe this i literally think that's And they didn't even bring that.
45And then she forgot about that. I think that's from Frasier. They're both talking, him and Niall, and they go, what's better than a perfect meal? And it's like a really good meal with a slight flaw that we can talk about for the rest of the evening. There you go. Ah, yeah, we have nailed it. Right. Right, Claire, let's have a little swipe because I've got something I need to talk to you about. this episode is brought to you by the dvla now james it's fair to say that i look after the life admin right you don't really know what's going on there birth days i can't really argue with you no no you don't you know the kids will open a present from mom and dad on their birthday you're more excited than them because it's the first time you've it.
37I can't believe my luck. You don't know when your cousin's birthday's coming up, all that stuff's taken care of, right? Seems to be. It does. It all just sort of gets done. Well, I'm going to pay you a compliment. I don't know when stuff like the car tax needs to be renewed. You don't, do you? No, I don't. When is the car tax renewed? I have no idea, James. No idea. The point is you don't have to worry about it. No. Okay. I get it done. It's done. It's all sorted with a direct debit. I just set it up and it auto renews It's easy peasy, bosh Well Claire, over 98 % of people make sure they tax their vehicle on time I'm one of them, make sure you're one of them too, go and visit gov.uk slash dvla slash taxit or search vehicle tax to get yours sorted 5 % surcharge applies to monthly and six monthly direct debit payments Hey Claire Yeah What?
30What's wrong with you now? Who's upset you now? Fucking taxi driver was annoying, wasn't it? Same old, same old. It doesn't matter. Well, it's not, because that's never happened. Because you know they lock the taxi when you're in it? That car. Yeah. He was paying with a card, and I usually get out to get out the way, kept the door locked, and then I tried to open it a couple of times. But he went, right, go on, off you go then. Yeah, and I went, the door's not opening. And he went, yes. He went, yes, unlocked. And then I tried it again, and I went, I don't know what to tell you, mate. The door's locked.
05And then he went, oh, and then, because he was like, try it again. As if it was my fault. And then as you were trying it, he went, oh, hang on a minute. And he did that thing where if you go, you know when you try and unlock a door? It happens with the fucking kids all the time. Yeah. They can't wait two seconds. Yeah, they pull it at the same time. They pull it at the same time as you unlock it and then it's like, and they're going to pull the door off the fucking car. Yeah. Jude's getting on my nerves by the way he's got into this habit of fucking slamming the car door every time he gets out the car he's very heavy handed honestly I thought he burst my eardrum when I dropped him off the other day or something he hopped out the car I was like oh god
50anyway move on right Claire what have you noticed that I've been doing a bit less this week less than fucking nothing Yeah. Go on. Well, that's because it's National Procrastination Week. Right. Procrastination. Yeah. National Procrastination Week is, for many, an excuse to put off any important goal for whatever makes you feel good. It's sometimes moved to the second week of March. Even the organisers are procrastinating. Would you say I'm a procrastinator? Absolutely. No, surely not. Absolutely. What happened the other day? What? You were supposed to go to the storage unit. Yeah. Still not done.
33Still not done it. Doing it Wednesday. Doing it Wednesday. You were standing there. You had your shoes on. Mm-hmm. No, that wasn't my fault. Hold on a minute. I've got a tracksuit on. I've got my shoes on. I came back. You said, where are you going? Jude was at hockey. I took Jude to hockey. I came back. You were all dressed. What? I've been ill. What are you chucking that in for? Well, I'm just saying, because I was going, I've got to get that thing built in the storage unit because I need to move some stuff in the storage unit. And I've had these cardboard boxes by the front door for about three weeks.
06And you were going. No, I said, where are you going? Why are you all dressed? And I went, I've got to go to do this thing. And I said, oh, you're doing that today. And I went, yes. And I went, right. And then you went, well. No. Then you said, should I not do it today? No. And I went, do whatever you want. No, that's bullshit. Stop. That's bullshit, Claire. Stop. Because you were like, oh, you're doing that today. No, you don't have to do that. You said, and I was like, and that was what turned me. Once you started, though. No. Once you started. I went, oh, I've got to go and do this. I said, you don't have to do it today.
38And you said, you don't have to do it. So I was like, well, that's that then. But then you stood at the kitchen door for about 20 minutes. Yeah. Thinking, and I kept going, I really should do that. And then you literally went, do you want a beer? First of all, I was joking. But then I said to you, if you want to go and do it, go and do it. No, but you were laughing as you were saying it. You've said that now. You knew what you were doing because you were laughing and you were going, if you want to do it, go and do it. And it's still not been done. And I was going, I should really get it done. And you were going, you don't have to do it.
10You literally said that to me. I said that once. After you stood at the door for ages, I said you don't have to do it. Then you said you want a beer. And I was like, well, if it's the choice between building some stuff and having a beer, I mean, yeah, I'll have a beer then, won't I? it was Friday to be fair yeah it was a Friday it was a Friday and that's why I said oh I'm shocked you're doing it today but you could have done it I wasn't well also still wasn't well so you had a beer yeah alcohol kills the bacteria but you are a procrastinator 100 % I don't know do you think I am really yeah yeah what do I procrastinate about what listen see the fucking horn what go on there are so many occasions where we're going out in the evening I know what you're going to say and you spend this is so you cannot be saying this no you spend the whole afternoon going I really should have a shower before we go out she spends about four hours saying how she should have a shower and then and then she goes what time are we leaving again and I go oh you go well I don't have time for a shower now
25How's your armpits? They're fine, they're not smelly I'm not talking about the smell Listen, nobody shaves in the winter, alright? It's still cold out there, what do you want from me? Nothing How's your armpits? How's your ass? Not as hairy as yours This is because this morning he caught sight of my armpits They were insane Listen I was saying I don't give a fuck I was saying I wouldn't do it. If I was a girl, I wouldn't do it. I just wouldn't. I'd do it in the summer. Yeah, but even then, fucking... I don't even like shaving my face. No. All razor burn and bumps and red and dry. Yeah, it's not comfortable.
04So if I don't have... If nobody's going to see my armpits, then why would I do it? What's going on on your shins? Nobody can see my legs either. Look at you. What's the matter with your face? Look at your face. At least I can cover up my hair. Go straight for the face all the time. All the time. You can't cover that up, can you? We're talking about procrastination, things that you should be keeping on top of. I'm not procrastinating about shaving. I don't need to do it right now. You literally go, I should do that, I should do that, and then you don't do it. That is procrastination. First of all, that was the other day when we were going out.
37You're always doing it. I couldn't be bothered to go for a shower, and I was going, I should really shower, because you should shower before you're going out somewhere nice. You're always doing it. Anyway, we read a bit of perfume, gave myself a little squish, then I'm fine. Yeah. I would say we're both procrastinators and that's fine I can call him out look at him you called me out you sat there the whole time you're talking about building sign you're like oh how's your armpits yeah this whole podcast trying to get me should be called call out James and all the stuff that he's useless and rubbish at I just go to how's your hairy armpits these days hairy and very comfortable yeah fine keeping me warm yeah like a woolly mammoth it's not that bad oh there is a little thing here quickly actually um what did your school reports say about you talks too much right doesn't listen i literally had a report from my german teacher and i'm sure i've spoke about this before but it's absolutely hilarious like the the report that she'd written was like would probably do quite well in my class if you didn't keep falling asleep all the time it got to a point where she moved me because i used to sit at the back of the class and just put my head down just like i couldn't stay awake she moved me to her desk oh yeah so we shared one desk and sat across from each other yeah and i still just fucking fell asleep right in front of her face i could not keep my eyes just in that just in German yeah and I realized once I got a little bit older and I started doing sort of jobs and had to go to work and things like that like not acting and stuff but like proper jobs um that I'd just be like I'd feel so tired doing and I realized it was just boredom it was just being so bored that I couldn't stay awake.
31Because my German lesson was always before break time. Right. And I'd be like, fucking hell, I'm well tired. What is up with me today? What's going on? And then it'd be break time and I'd go and see my mates and stuff and I'd be like, back to normal. Yeah, I'd be absolutely fine. It was just, I just found it boring. Yeah, I found graphic design. Right. I found art really boring. Yeah. and it was just way it was like yeah couldn't do it sitting on the computer cad and yeah all these lines and i was just like i don't know what's going on and i was in front of a screen i was always just like if you're not interested in it yeah like sort of maths i struggle with i'm not good at maths maths is a boring subject unless you're really into maths yeah science there's usually always something weird or interesting going on with science history I liked history I liked history and I liked English Those sort of stuff you stay awake for I was on a we called it a conduct card it was like a behaviour card at school I had to get it signed after every class by the teacher to say that she behaved We called it report I'd be on report, it was a yellow card Yeah, mine was a little pink card it was a conduct card We used to have this thing, I was sent there a couple of times because they stopped excluding kids because that's not a punishment no like first of all you'd have to do something really really bad to get excluded yeah i was never excluded i was i don't even think i ever got suspended i never got suspended or anything like that um but you like you'd even have to do something really bad you'd have to do something really bad to get suspended yeah suspended yeah that's what it's called suspended is for like a week or a few days excluded means you're out the school Right, yeah, I mean suspension Yeah, yeah, yeah That's what I mean, suspension So you have to do something bad But the school eventually cottoned on Where it was like Oh, giving them the day off isn't a punishment So our school had Which I think is now banned Internal suspension Yeah, you told me a bit less And it was a special room in the school And you were in a the only way I could describe it is a giant urinal you get little separators at urinals in the toilet it's like when you go in to do like your theory test and stuff you're in like the little sort of side boxes and you can't really look around yeah you're in your own little box and it was painted grey and you just sat there.
07They didn't even make you do work they brought you work but you got like you're left you're left you're not allowed to talk you're not allowed to do anything you're not allowed to move do you still get to go on break and lunch? or do you have to have it there? I think, yeah, you have it there you have to bring a packed lunch and stuff it's quite cruel isn't it? yeah, well cruel really cruel but shape up yeah, don't fuck around don't be an idiot in class yeah, I spent a couple of days in that did you? in that little room I might get one of them for the huss just put you in solitary for a minute no video games ah what well that's not a punishment what am I being punished for I don't know you have to be eventually bring the whip back yeah just I like I don't mind physical punishment and verbal as well you know just hit me while you call me a little bitch okay right keep going good lord let's have a little swipe Claire because we've got some listener emails I'd like to read you thank god right it's time for Bang for Buck and this week is brought to you by Autotrader jingle bang for buck is it worth the spend or just dumb luck bang right this is a feature where we discuss a recent purchase and whether it was bang for buck or not plus the reason if any behind buying it Kirstie is here.
41Here we go. Her email is called absolutely fluming. Kirstie says, hiya, really enjoy the podcast. It's a recent discovery and I'm listening from the start. I've got a bang for buck. When a nearby theme park decommissioned its log flume, they sold all the boats online. My husband bought one for around 400 quid. Why? Amazing. What? That is absolutely incredible. You could stick that in the garden or something like that. For what? It's just funny. It's just funny. Like you've got yourself a log flume. However, this is where, because I'm always saying it's bang for buck. Yeah. I'm always saying it is.
19This is where it starts to fall apart. Go on. The proud new owners posted in the group to show off what they did with their boats. But unfortunately for us, my husband didn't think about how he was getting it home. As it's three metres long, one metre wide and weighs one tonne. He bought it about 10 years ago And it's still in the theme park Oh my god No reason for the purchase No Is this bang for your buck? Oh Kirsty let me have a think What are you saying? If it was in their garden Then I'd say yeah that's bang for buck But what would you dare with? It's huge Yeah so it's like a sort of People have statues and stuff in their gardens didn't they nobody did that I know you need to have a pretty big garden of course people do they have all kinds of garden ornaments and things yeah I guess a log flume it's a big old chunk of see this is the difference between men and women you think that's really cool I think it's well cool yeah I absolutely love it okay well no I'm afraid that's I'm saying not bang for your buck yeah are you saying it is he doesn't even have it yeah I'm saying it's not because he doesn't have it before he keeps buying stuff he needs to get himself a bigger motor.
37Talking of transporting stuff, you got a cool box which was what, maybe six feet long? No, it's probably about five feet. I was convinced if I put the seats down and stuff that it would all... And then when I got it next to the car, obviously it was way bigger than what I appreciated. Until sometimes you've got two things next to each other, you don't understand that's why when someone says to me something like and this dinosaur was a hundred feet tall i need to have a little picture of a man next to the dinosaur i can't understand what we're doing i had to get a mate with a van to come and help me out anyway if you fancy a change then auto traders free valuation tool can show you the value of your car in under 10 seconds so you can crack on with the buying or the selling or just having a little browse which is something I love doing on AutoTrader.
31And I love just having a little look. I go, oh, what? Is that how much they cost? That's interesting. Get a free valuation on AutoTrader today. When you want your spring break to feel like... This is from someone called James, who wants to write about cab etiquette. Oh, good.
19Is it me? We just mentioned that. Am I now just writing into the podcast now?
27This is all yours. you're lucky lucky lady this is from James hi James and Claire love the podcast was listening to an episode where you were talking about your taxi ride playing 80s music well this is what my passengers have to listen to on a Monday morning going to work for our audio listeners he plays the Buckley's podcast in his taxi that would be really good advertisement would it I don't think so that's the thing you want to trick listeners into listening to your podcast podcast and if they go if they want to hear a bit of it then that's going to put them off yeah so i don't know what we're going to do about that i'm going to sort that out in a second um james says keep up the good work good work not great can't wait to see you at your show in glasgow hey glasgow you don't like them what's the worst thing that a taxi driver could play in oh play in a taxi yeah honestly probably a podcast that's annoying isn't it like a podcast that he's listening to and i don't have a fucking clue who it is or what listening to some pair of pricks talk shit that they think they're interested and i've got to listen to it in the back seat especially if it's a long drive i'd be furious if i got into the taxi and they were playing our podcast that would be the worst thing actually be awful wouldn't it that would be really bad That's hell, I think.
49Or at least purgatory. Yeah. You know, when you order an Uber, they ask you, like, your preferences. Oh, talking and no talking? Yeah, talking, no talking, music, no music. Right. And I do want to say no talking. Yeah, but you can't. That makes you look so rude. You're so rude. Yeah. I think hairdressers do that as well. Now, I've not been to hairdressers in about 10 years, but I think there is a thing that some posh hairdressers do talking or no talking to you. You've got to be comfortable talking if you're a hairdresser or a barber or something like that. It's such an important part of the experience.
33Got holiday booked. Going everywhere nice this weekend. I would like to do the no talking. I'd like to have no awkward conversations when I'm paying to be in a car. Oh, I don't mind it. you got to just like smile and and keep the phones are good for that now like you just pretend you're busy on your phone yeah just playing tetris i've always got my headphones with me as well that's the problem with headphones though unless you're wearing big ear cover headphones people can't see you've got headphones this is what you do this is what you do you go because sometimes i just don't have anything playing and i just walk down the street and stuff yeah so that if you know You want to ignore something?
17But if there's a taxi driver talking to you and you've got your little air pods in or whatever, obviously you hear them. Yeah. And then I'll wait for a second time. And then I go, oh, sorry, what was that? Oh, yeah, yeah, no, yeah, we should, yeah, yeah, absolutely, yeah. Right. And then that's... Right. So you just make them aware that you're wearing headphones. Sorry, I'm just listening to something in the old headphones here. so if you're talking to me I can't hear you so now why don't you actually just play something in headphones why do you have nothing in it well sometimes I'm listening to something and it stops and then I've got to go into my phone like my phone will be like in the inside pocket or something like that and I can't be bothered and I can't be bothered to then because they come in a little case my headphones I can't be bothered to find them so just the headphones just stay there okay fine fine fuck me is it really there's nightmare drivers have you ever been a nightmare passenger I have yeah once go on threw up in a taxi I've never done that never done that I did why don't you say they'd rather you go I know mate you've got to pull over I'm so sorry I didn't know I was incredibly drunk yeah yeah I have thrown up in a taxi not a lot to be fair it was just a little bit and then I did say but yeah yeah I've done that before that's a nightmare that's terrible yeah it's awful I hate myself for that yeah I've never done that no it was a long time ago it's fine the only nightmare passenger-y sort of thing I do is if I'm being picked up from the pub and then I become a bit chatty yes because you do love to chat with taxi drivers when you've had a beer yeah I'm always sitting in the back and you sit in the front you just chat away but I do have like taxi drivers, a lot of taxi drivers do have an interesting story going on.
18Depends what mood you're in. Well, if I'm drunk, I just think me after a few beers is a better me. Oh, absolutely. I'm more chatty and more personable. A hundred percent. I think everybody after a couple of beers is a better person. I don't think that is true. And I'm not saying, I'm not bragging about that, by the way. Right, Claire, let's move on to a little feature. Okay. It's another new feature. A new one? Yeah, we've got a new feature today Today is going to be the day That we're going to throw it back to you It's wonderful, isn't it? This feature is called Bucking the Day Tell your family, tell your friends Things were so much better then I just really want to say How I miss Bucking the Day I thought when it said We're going to throw it back to you I was expecting a little Wonderwall style thing.
14No. That took me by complete surprise. It's a new feature. It's called Bucking the Day, where we have a little trip down memory lane. If you want to get involved in Bucking the Day, which is, this is going to run and run. Our email is at thebuckleysatplatformmedia.uk or you can message us at thebuckleyspod on Instagram and TikTok. We've got a message here from Mike. Mikey. Mikey boy, who says, Hi, James and Claire. I've just finished watching your latest episode and you mentioned how much you loved the tango advert in the 90s well randomly oh yeah we've got do you want to explain that I'll explain that, we've got a 90s gong you technically didn't mention it but every time you mention the 90s I'm going to bang that gong there's a little gong that Claire bangs randomly the tango man Paul Gregory came into our post match pub in Bristol last Saturday after we, Bristol City, played Sheffield Wednesday, who he supports.
14He was posing for pictures with his top off and he was a good laugh. Wow. Keep up the good work, Mike. 90s adverts, eh? 90s adverts. 90s adverts. I have done, I have spent an evening, like when I was working away or something like that and you're just in a hotel room, I've spent an evening just laying in bed watching my iPads. it was like this one video it was like two and a half hours long on YouTube can you take the piss? no, I went and see what this video is that you watch in your hotel room alone on the bed it was old adverts it was old adverts and I watched a couple and I was like I remember that and then I just kept going down and now like again this is sort of algorithm stuff on my Instagram I get like BBC Christmas 1992.
08I got that. And it's all like... And it shows you what's playing. At 6.30, Noel's house party. Yeah. And we've got the generation game and all that. Those were the days, man. Only Fools and Horses Christmas special. That literally... That's so weird that you say that. That came up... And I've never seen that before. And that came up for me the other day. I had this really weird thought where I was like, God, what was I doing when that was shown on TV? Like it was like Christmas Eve, I would probably have been like in my wee jammies all excited. It's shit being an adult, isn't it? It is rubbish.
46There's some other memorable advert faces here that I've got in front of me. Oh, I know that face. Barry Scott. Yeah. Sill it bang.
57Bang and the dirt is gone. Yeah, carry on. Can't talk about that, no? No, absolutely not. No, no, no, no. Listen, I'd do anything for a laugh. I'd do anything for a joke, even when the situation is the complete opposite to a funny situation. It might be a passionate situation. Okay. And back in the day, I haven't done it for a while. I'm an old man nowadays. Back in the day, I used to chuck in, when I was finishing our passionate situation, I'd like to chuck in a little funny catchphrase. And one of them was, bang, and the dirt is gone.

46Another one was Geronimo. Okay. Okay. You used to find them funny. Yes, I did, but it was not now. Right, okay. But it's good. It's good to have a little joke at the end of having it off, basically. Sometimes we had to stop because you made me laugh too much. We had to both stop. We had to both stop because we were laughing too much. Yeah. Okay. And we couldn't get back into it. No, we couldn't. Yeah, it was good. Good times. Got Barry Scott there, Bang in the Dirt is Gone. Do you remember the hedgehogs teaching how to cross the road? Yeah, I do. King of the road. That's right, yeah. Dean Martin's song, I believe.
28I hadn't thought about this one. Oh, God. Until you guys had put it in. Yeah. Belly's going to get you. The Reebok thing with the great big, gross, quite scary. Yeah, hairy belly. Hairy belly that looks, I'm not being funny, looks like an arse. It does for this point, yeah. I would never have thought that was Reebok. I remember it, but I would never have been able to tell you it was Reebok. Belly's going to get you. Yeah? Yeah. God, there's some weird idea. There were some great adverts. Yeah. In the 90s. We've got another little vintage. Oh, fuck. I've dropped my stick. You grab the stick. I'm going to read this.
11We've got another vintage memory from Phoebe who says, off the back of James and Claire discussing the pirate DVDs, I have a great story about our local hero, dodgy DVD, Dave. It's difficult to say. No idea if his name was actually Dave. Well I grew up in Kent There was a fella Who drove a little white van He came round on a Friday night I promise it wasn't weird And he rented games VHS And later DVDs From all the back of his little van Yeah we had We had one We had a guy that did that Go in the pub? No He had the little van He would come round the street And it would be once a week So it was different From the video shot In that it would be A once a week thing So when you rented a video Of him you got it for the week Right And I remember I went through a Jackie Chan phase with him.
58Oh, I loved Jackie Chan. Rush Hour, The Tuxedo. No, but they were all pre-those. I got all these subtitled Chinese films. I love Jackie Chan. Yeah, I just went through this bizarre. And for about six weeks, I was like, I'd get one Jackie Chan film off of him, borrow that for a week, and then I'd swap it for another Jackie Chan film. I'm bizarre about that. All of us kids would choose a game video or DVD and rented it from him for the weekend for 50p. Or if you wanted to pay the full£1, he let you keep it for a week. Fucking bargain. We would race home from school every day to play the PS1 games as much as we could before he came back the following week.
36We also hired the movie Good Burger. Keenan and Kel. I went to the cinema to see that. I've never seen that. Welcome to Good Burger, home of the Good Burger. Can I take your order? I liked Keenan and Kel, but I'd never seen the film. Yeah, I believe that was Nickelodeon, Good Burger. Maybe not. We also hired the movie Good Burger. so much that he ended up giving it to us. Oh, see. Because, and I quote, you're the only people who rent it and I can't be arsed to keep coming back just for that fucking film. Oh. Anyway, it was great fun and something we always looked forward to on a Friday. Yeah. The 90s were the fucking best and I really miss the original Turkey Twizzlers.
14Yeah, me too. Right, the gong's finished because it keeps rolling off and I'm not getting up again. I miss Turkey Twizzlers. You never had a Turkey Twizzler, did you? No, I didn't have them. They recently... Sorry, I'm always talking about this. Because it is... Like, I'm genuinely bitter about it. I do think about it a lot. Like, it is in my brain a lot. Because you bought me turkey twizzlers a couple of years ago. Because they came back. They came back. They brought back the turkey twizzlers. And you were like, I've got a surprise for you. Yeah. You're going to love this. Yeah. And occasionally you do do stuff like that.
48No, I'm just saying, because you've got this reputation, sometimes you're a bit like hey come here this will make you happy i'm always like that well i just look after you i think people will find that difficult to believe um but you do like and those was that was one of the big ones it was like look in the freezer like you even went like that i was like i was a fucking toddler well you are this is the whole point this is what i do for in the freezer I was like oh no way turkey twizzlers thanks mum and and you were like yeah they've brought them back and I know you're always banging on about how much you used to like them yeah and they were fucking rubbish yeah you didn't like them they weren't as slimy you said they weren't as slimy as they used to be which was not for me I mean fucking hell stick those just you get like a bit of bread chuck a load in there and just curl the bread around the slice of bread oh god I'm dribbling I'm dribbling thinking about it did you have any travelling sales people did you have like a video guy come round in the van no we never had a video guy ice cream man that's what was making me that's what I was thinking about that the ice cream van would come every night milkman especially during the summer during the summer do you remember Avon ladies Avon yeah I'm sure like my mum or my auntie or something did that my mum did Avon my mum was an Avon lady yeah and I was very much part of the business I bet you are I would travel around our estate and I would um either deliver the yeah the brochure yeah or I would collect the written order yeah yeah yeah I wasn't allowed to actually handle goods.
40No. But that was, I used to have to fucking about two times a week. I used to go, I didn't get paid for anything. No, obviously. Your mum was getting paid. But to my mum's credit, I'm pretty sure she invented this. She started buying Ziploc freezer bags. Right. To put the brochure in. Right. with the little ticket form thing and then you would then if you did want to fill it out and you put it back in leave it outside so I just had to post it and then just collect it I didn't have to knock on anyone's door and say where's your Avon I had a little fucking book with all these addresses because everybody did that and the problem was I remember they didn't do it yeah they do it now I think word got out I remember though it's one of the things the Avon lady was such a pain because it was always I feel like I remember my mum she never did it I don't think I think about it but I feel like her pal did it or her neighbour did it and she was like I've got to fucking order something all the time I don't even want anything but I've got to order something because she'll be like oh you don't not get an order this week yeah it's like fucking buying shit that you don't even want you've got to put a bit of pressure on you've got to lean on them Yeah, they do, yeah.
07That's a good film. Do you know... Avon. Do you remember, I think they're thrown away now, but I used to have a pair of purple boxer shorts with little men on them, little stick men. It looked a little bit like a knock-off purple Ronnie. Yeah, I know what you mean, yeah. I'm sure I could find these shorts in the wardrobe, these boxer shorts, and they have got like loads of holes and everything in them and stuff like that. Really soft ones. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But they were from Avon. Right. And I got them for Christmas when I was about 12 years old or something. Right. And I'm now, I'm about to turn 39 and I've still got a pair of boxer shorts that are, you know, 35 years old.
54Good stuff. Last. No, they're fucking knackered. You still got them for. You're a hoarder. You are a hoarder. I always worry I'm going to need someone later. I'll have to get you to throw stuff out constantly. You never know. You just never know. But you're also very sentimental. Yeah, I've got emotional tyres to everything. You do. Like the most ridiculous things. Like a bit of paper. Yeah. A receipt for something. Yeah. You're like, oh, but that's the day we do it. I'm like, fucking put it in the bin. Yeah. Making a mess everywhere. I'm like shit from the kids that I carry around with me. Yeah.
