In short

The Buckleys episode is a mix of personal updates, comedy/entertainment talk, and listener interaction. James and Claire discuss seeing comedian Jack Skipper (they met him via Feastival; Claire notes his material is straightforwardly funny rather than overly political). They also recap being “special guests” at Sam and Pete’s Staying Relevant Live at the O2, contrasting it with their own planned “couch, beer, moaning” style. A major segment is a rant about losing modern TV remotes (Apple TV remotes are tiny and easy to bump), plus “served up hacks” and Co-op Served meal sponsorship (chicken and mushroom Alfredo with fusilli; green veg). They debate “you’re never too old” for hobbies like clubbing/shots, standing tickets, rollercoasters, e-scooters, and cruise ships.

Notable examples

Tom Hanks with vintage typewriters, Ed Sheeran into Lego, Elon Musk gaming, Ant and Dec pranking.

08Storm, zero sugar, 200 milligrams of caffeine and immunity support. Storm, energy for life. Welcome to a new era of baseball's great spectacle. The T-Mobile Home Run Derby, live on Netflix. The biggest sluggers in baseball put their talents to the test on All-Star Weekend. Raw power meets star power Big swagger meets bigger slams And you don't swing to make contact You swing to make history Watch the T-Mobile Home Run Derby live on Netflix This Monday, July 13th at 8pm Eastern, 5pm Pacific We were at Danny Dyer's wedding There was a huge fireworks display at the end of the evening And Danny just turned to me That's 50 quid, that's 100 quid I think it was like either the first or second night that we shared a bed.

59Right, we get it. I'm not saying we did anything because we waited until we got married. I mean, explain that to Harrison. Harrison was at the wedding. Baby, if we went swinging, I'd be losing out. Like, whoever we're swinging with, like one of my mates or something like that, yeah, he's winning. Why? What one of your mates wants to do me? I'm just asking. Why? No, I'm just asking. I'm just asking who? Get your hands off me.

24Hello and welcome to the Buckleys, the podcast where we sit down, have a chat, moan a bit and invite you into our lives. Are you right, Claire? She's run out of beer. She's run out of beer already. I've not even said the first sentence. I ran out of beer. Did you say that? I was trying to do it. She's pointing and saying, I need another beer. Yeah, no, I know you try. In your head, I think what you were doing was subtle. But when you're trying to read an intro. The camera would have been on you. Nobody would have saw that if you didn't point it out. I saw it. But carry on. What's your fucking professionalism?

54Before we get into it Claire hang on just a second if you could just wait if you could just hold off of not having to have a beer right this second um we just want to remind you that you can get in touch with your stories and questions for us by emailing thebuckleys at platformmedia.uk or you can message us at the Buckley's pod on Instagram and TikTok and make sure you do follow and subscribe to the show on Spotify or whatever podcast app that you like to use and if you do enjoy the show if you do enjoy the fucking show. Give us a review, a nice one, please. Because I don't like not nice ones.

28Just quickly. I've got one done there. They gave me one. Just quickly, this episode of The Buckleys is sponsored by Co-op's new meals range, Served. So thank you very much, Co-op. Anyway, Claire, have you got your beer? Yes, look at me. Fresh. How are you? I'm fine now. You're okay now. That was close. You were sort of shaking a bit and stuff. I'm fine now. Vomiting and stuff, didn't you? Yeah, I'm okay now. Now that you've got your beer. What have we been up to this week? Oh, did you hear that glug? It's been a bit of an action-packed week, especially for me. I'm fucking knackered. Oh, especially for you?

02Go on, what are you doing? Well, no, only because, like, I mean, you're always, you're action-packed. You're always sort of quite busy, isn't you? But this week, I've left the house quite a lot. Yeah, yeah. Been out of the house quite a lot. Well, we both have together. and then you as well. You've been extra busy. First of all, during the week there, I went to see a comedian. You did, yeah. Called Jack Skipper. Yeah, shout out. Can't recommend him enough. Genuinely, really, really funny. Yeah, because you met him at Feastival, right? Yeah, yeah. And I was supposed to come with you. You did book a ticket for me and you and then we couldn't get babysitter and dog sitter and stuff like that.

43Someone had to go. Someone had to go, obviously. Do you know what I mean? Yeah. You replaced me with C Bartlett again. C Bartlett, yeah. But did you have fun? Was that good? Really good. It was well funny. Like genuinely really, really funny. However, right, it started off, it was a bit of a disaster. That's right. Because he was playing in this town and I know that there is a theatre in this town and any time that we've been to see someone, it's always at this theatre. We've been there a couple of times, yeah. And I thought, oh, I'll just go straight there. So I did. I went straight there and I'm walking into the building and it's like a mob, like a crowd of old people.

25And like, not just like middle-aged people. I mean, like... Old. There was middle-aged people helping the old people get into the building. They're really old. Like, not to be rude, it was like The Walking Dead. No, no, no, no. James, that is rude. Is it rude? Yeah. But just, you know how they walk and stuff where they can't quite walk and everything? Like they were ancient. They were really, really old. And I was thinking, ancient. Fucking hell, he brings in an old crowd. And also I was like, he's sort of off the back of TikTok. Yeah, Instagram. He did a load of TikTok sort of sketches and stuff like that.

00And that's how he sort of managed to build a platform. And now he's on tour as a live stand-up. And I was like, fucking hell, old people. Good for them. Fucking. Enter the doc. Proper into TikTok and like going to see their favourite TikTok comedian and stuff. like great then i got into the building and then it was just a sea of white hair like in the in the lobby and in the in the bar and stuff and i was like they must they must have something else going on in a different room or something like that i went to the box office to get my tickets and i was like yeah have you got comedy on tonight and you knew and they went oh no you want the other theatre it was literally exactly a mile and they even gave me a map to get to a mile up the road and they were like we've got Riverdance on tonight and I was like that makes sense and they went do you not fancy a bit of Riverdance do you not fancy a bit of Riverdance now we know that you do I love a bit of Riverdance I love a bit of Riverdance unfortunately I had to go and see Jack Skipper do comedy no but it was well good he was brilliant You came home and I did say to you, how was it?

11And you did say he was genuinely just funny. He was just funny. Like there was nothing too political or too clever or too this or too... He was just funny. I've got a big problem with the current generation. I don't want to slag anyone off, especially if you're making comedy. I want to encourage you and I want you to be as funny as you possibly can be. And God bless and I wish you the best of luck in the world. I do think though That this current generation Of stand-up comedians especially I just feel like they're making material For other comedians They're not making it for me or you Or the people in the street They're more obsessed with being the most intelligent person In the room rather than being the most funny Yeah and it's always got to be Off of And if you don't get that Then you're stupid Thanks for making me feel shit I get what you mean Not only did you not make me laugh, but you made me feel like an idiot.

07Thank you. Thank you. Yeah, I know. I'm not educated. I didn't pick my Jesus E's up. Thanks for reminding me. Yeah. But he was just like. He was just fucking funny. So funny. He was absolutely hilarious. Yeah. Love it. My favourite comedian about right now. Wow. There you go. Jack Skipper. Yeah, he's really, really good. Go and check him out. And that wasn't all the live, you know, that wasn't my fill of live entertainment over the course of the week, was it? No. Because me and you were special guests for the Staying Relevant Live at the O2, by the way. Yeah, how the fuck did they do that? Live at the O2.

43We had such a laugh, didn't we? It was a great night. Really good night. Sam and Pete did the O2, their podcast. They did one night and they got some special guests in. Yeah, might have to apologise to them slightly. I feel like we were all right and we did what we were supposed to do. Yeah, we were fine. Yeah, but we were more interested in the fact that there was beers and we were just hanging out on a couch, just drinking beers and having fun with Patterson and her fella. It was just a night out for us. They invite the Buckleys. They don't want us to sit on the couch and drink beers and fucking read the room then.

18That was good, wasn't it? No, that was fun. That was really fun. And what was interesting for us, of course, is that we were about to go on tour. We were about to do Out with the Buckleys. So we were a bit like... Not at the auteur. No, of course not. But we were a bit like, let's have a little look, see how this sort of fucking works, see what they do. Is there anything we can nick or anything like that? Right, they were running around on stage, full of energy, screaming and shouting. There was pyrotechnics. There was, fuck it, like they had Sam. They did a Guinness World Record. They had a Guinness World Record at one point.

53They had Sam. Pete did a dance. Pete was dancing. Sam was on a broom, a Harry Potter wizard broom at one point. and we were just like, well, there's nothing we can take from this. So just so you know, there'll be none of that fucking going on. No, it'll be us on the couch. Drinking beer. Drinking Stella. Complaining. But it'll be live. It'll be in front of you. It'll be in front of you, but that's about it. Yeah. Yeah, none of that. Because we did say that. We were like, let's see what they do. There was quite a good joke, actually, because they did have pyrotechnics just for the fun of having pyrotechnics.

26There wasn't like a big moment where there was an explosion. there was just a bit where Sam went and now we've got pyrotechnics and these pyrotechnics went off Yeah, it reminded me of when we were at Danny Dyer's wedding and he said that to you because Pete was gone, well that costs money Yeah, we were at Danny Dyer's wedding and it was a big old lavish dude Yeah, it was a great wedding and there was a huge fireworks display at the end of the evening and Danny just turned to me that's 50 quid, that's 100 quid It was just counting how much each firework cost. And it went on for about 10 minutes or something.

05Yeah, you're all laughing. Yeah. No, there'll be none of that. None of that shit. No, absolutely not. I think if we came out on brooms and things like that, people would go, what the fuck is this? Sit down, talk some bollocks, relax. Like our crowds, our listeners. People might freak out if we smile. Yeah, they'd be like, hang on. I mean, we get it. This isn't what we're putting on. You're putting on a show. Yeah, this isn't what we paid them for. Yeah. No, ours won't have any of that. Don't worry. And also, it does cost money. And we don't have any. Claire. Yes, James. I need to have a moan at you.

39Okay. Not about you. Just at you. Obviously. It's a really simple one. Real quick one. Quick one this week. And I'm going to say two words? No. An abbreviation and a word. Okay. and what do you want from me here you're gonna go and everyone listening is gonna go TV remotes no you're not with me this is why we can't do a fucking live show like Sam and Pete because one of them would have gone oh yeah yeah yeah like they would have helped them out so you want me to fake it you want me to fake it maybe fake it we are trying to entertain people a little bit what's the problem right when I was a kid yeah You were a kid too Yeah Our TV remote Is about the size of a shoebox Right okay Well I was going to say You're talking about The Apple TV remote Well I'll get onto that In a second Okay right okay Hold your fucking horses there Right see this is what happens When I join in You fucking tell me Shut up I know that's right I've got to stop Getting you to join in You can't You couldn't lose Our remote down the couch No not those big sky ones It was really thick at the top Yeah you could use it As a couch You could like sit on it If you wanted to Also if the batteries ran out on the remote or something like that.

54Also, they didn't because it was always solar panelled. They had little solar panels in the remote of your television. Right. That you could just like, and it would just charge itself all the time. Okay. But say you did lose your remote when you were a kid, what would you do? What would you do, Claire? Checked on the couch cushions? No, you can't find it. Can't find it. But I just need to change the channel quickly. Go up to the telly. Yeah, go up to the TV. Go up to the TV. flip a panel down press the button channel up okay I'm with you you got me I'm in so nowadays first of all it's so easy to lose TV remotes these days I don't know what's the matter they're all aerodynamic they can squeeze in things they must stop being solid at one point and turn liquid so you lose a TV remote these days yeah you can't find the thing at the back where's the buttons on the television now where's that option you can't find them we've got a television that has like a little joystick Yeah, it's a little, I was going to say, it's a little round thing.

50It's a little sort of fucking analogue joystick. It's like a little sort of... Oh, all right, careful. Do you know what I mean, right? But that's it. You're turning me on. But that's it. So we need to work out all the different moves and to be able to control just putting the channel up one or the volume down a bit, we need to work out. You need to get it to volume mode and then... It's bollocks, Claire. It's driving me fucking nuts. Who are you texting? Jude. Dad's having a breakdown, Jude. Yeah, I said we might be a bit late today, bud. We might be a bit late. But anyway, and this is a bit niche, but we have an Apple TV box in our house.

30Yes. Those remotes. Those remotes are crazy. Are so easy to lose. They're tiny, tiny little things. They're a bit that long, that thin. They are crazy. Also. No, I'm thinking of the silver one. The new one, the black one's a bit that thin. No, the silver ones are a bit thicker. Yeah, that's what I'm saying, yeah. Yeah, that's the newer one. Oh, okay. So they've opted. Yeah, they've obviously gone. It's like a credit card. Yeah. How can you keep hold of a credit card around your couch? It's fucking insane. Yeah. Anyway, with these Apple TV remotes, Claire, not only am I pissed off about losing the fucking thing all the time, but if you just brush it or just look at it, suddenly the whole, like you're in the middle of a film or something, you just move your arm and it's like, oh, you've tapped the remote.

14The whole TV just fucking shuts down. Yeah, because it's a sweeper. Yeah. It gets on my tits. But listen, the whole reason why I'm talking about the TV remote and what made me think about it, because it's an ongoing problem. It's something that us as people are going to have to battle for the rest of our lives. We just need to accept it. Sometimes the remote will be there. A lot of the time you're going to have to find it. Yeah. Right? But the reason what made me think about it is because, and we only just know this, our kids TV the kids have got their own TV in their own room right yeah they can't find the remote no they've lost it for weeks yeah they didn't longer than that they didn't even tell us that they'd lost the remote because of the way remotes are these days now we remember the era where you where it's difficult to lose the remote yeah we appreciate being able to have the remote they've accepted that the remote goes for weeks we've been saying right go to go and chill out in your room for a bit, like after the homework and stuff.

15Right, you've earned a bit of chill out time. Go and relax. You know, go and watch a bit of TV or whatever. And they go off to the room and they've just accepted. They've just accepted. They've just gone. They've got a great big fucking television there staring at them. They've just gone, well, that's the end of that then. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I genuinely can see them both talking to each other going, well, this was always going to happen, wasn't it? Because, and they did tell us, because eventually they told us, that they couldn't find the remote. And I was like, well, did you check down the bed?

45And they were like, yeah, no, we've looked everywhere. It's gone. Yeah, no, it's gone. And we were like, okay. And I was going, what do you mean? It's got, like, it is somewhere. But they were so zen about it. They were so just sort of like, easy come, easy go. But do you know why? Do you know why, though? Why? This is the big difference. Harrison connected his phone, which has also got Disney Plus on it, to the TV. How does that work? He put on Disney Plus on his phone, So they were watching whatever they were watching And he pressed Apple Play onto the TV They found a way around it Yeah, they can do it So they just turned the TV on How do they do that now?

22Well, there is a button There is a button And then they just stream whatever on their phones On the television Yeah, yeah Fucking brilliant, genius But I love it They both were just like Oh yeah, no, that's gone Yeah, no, I know No, that went, that went I was going, what do you mean? Like, you've lost a remote They were going, yeah, ages ago. Ages ago, mate. We haven't seen that for fucking years. Yeah, no, that's true. But I do think we've gone too far. It's another case of technology going too far. With a small remote. Make the remote a size again. Fiendable. Yeah. And just quickly, Claire, right, and feel free if you're listening to comment wherever you're listening, because I feel like this is quite a good discussion.

07What did you call the remote when you were growing up? Yeah, see, because people have got different names. It's like different families had different names for it. See, mine's just really boring. Go on, what did you call it? The remote control. Called it the remote control. But we didn't just call it the remote. It was always remote control. Was the remote control. That seems like a bit long-winded, but I feel like that... You said it was the doofa. No, so that was a... I knew Scottish people who called it the doofa. Right. But we always said remote control. What about you guys? What did you call yours?

41The dinker The splodger That's mental That doesn't make any sense I was actually quite self conscious About what I called Remote control in our family When I was a kid Because all my friends were like It's not called that But if it's between splodger And what I called it And dinker I feel like mine was quite normal. We just called it The Buttons and I still call it that, don't we? You do say that. You're like, oh, pass me The Buttons. Can you pass me The Buttons? Yeah, you do say that, yeah. We just called it that. I think there are so many names, nicknames for the TV remote. I think there is, yeah.

21I think everybody's got a different one for that and yours always makes sense. And then when you tell somebody else and they go, what? You go, all right, you get quite like... A bit defensive. Yeah, you get defensive about it. You're like, well, it is a fucking splodger. I don't know what you're talking about. Splodge, of course it is. Splodge, splodge. Let us know. Let us know in the comments what you liked to call your remote when you were growing up. This episode of The Buckleys is sponsored by Co-op's new meals range, Served. Today, we have got chicken and mushroom Alfredo, your favourite.

56Oh, don't get me started. On what kind of pasta? Fusilli. We've also got green vegetable selection, which I will make you eat with it. Yum, yum, yum. regular listeners will be familiar with our instagram algorithm updates where we share the weird and wonderful mostly weird content that we get served up on our individual feeds served up hacks is a spin-off of that where we share the internet's most questionable life hacks that we and our producers have discovered online so first up is need a new knife block for your kitchen Claire? Yeah, I don't actually have one. Yeah, we don't have any block.

34No, we don't. I made a knife block once. At school? No. Oh. At work. I had loads of cut-offs of bits of oak that I wasn't using. This is when I used to fit kitchens and stuff like that. So I had all these blocks and it was like a sort of checkerboard. It looked like a chessboard. Okay. It was about an inch and a half thick. You thick, yeah. Beautiful. Oiled it all and everything. It was all smooth. Like glued all these blocks together. Nice. I should have That was when I was supposed to be working. Right, yeah. You made a little knife block. My mate was fabricating some stuff and I was just taking the bits that he wasn't using.

11And playing? Yeah, basically. I was playing with all the tools and things. That sounds about right. So what's the knife block hack? Well... If we're not all as handy as you, obviously. It wasn't a knife block that I made, it was a chopping board, I should say. Right, yeah. I got knife block and chopping board mixed up. I was trying to make a knife block. But you forgot to put holes? It turned into a chopping board. Anyway, just tie some old books together and then you can store your knives in between the tightly bound pages of your favourite book. I'm not having that one. I'm not having that one.

45No. Just get a big sponge, a big piece of sponge. Yeah. And just stab the knife through a big piece of sponge. Just get anything then. That one was rubbish. Yeah, that was. Well, let me ask you a question, James. Go on. Are you worried about packing dirty shoes in your rucksack or suitcase and getting muck all over your clothes? I absolutely am. I genuinely am. I was away. Festival. Yeah. And it got quite dusty. And I had a white, plain, crisp white T-shirt that I needed to put in a suitcase with some dusty trainers. Wow. And I was thinking, shall I wrap up the trainers in tissue? Well, here you go.

24Why don't you think about wrapping them up in shower caps? Oh that got a good That got a good little reaction there Yeah Is that genius Or would a plastic bag work just as well Plastic bag would work just as well obviously Plastic bag would probably work better Because you could tie it tight Yeah The shower cap I mean the ultimate You want to take the little blue booty things The shoe covers Yeah Yeah Because they're in the shape of the shoe already Don't take up extra space Don't take up extra space Yeah I might buy some of those Okay I don't think that's a hack though Well we've turned it into not a hack Because there is something that exists for that If you don't have the little shoe covers A shower cap would probably be Third best So are you more likely to have a shower cap than shoe covers?

14Yeah I don't have either So it would be a plastic bag Hey Claire Sticking with trainers Have you scuffed your brand new white trainers? Well don't fear Because you can use toothpaste to cover those scuffs and revitalise your sneakers? I have seen that, actually. I've seen that on Instagram, people using toothpaste. Do they use it like filler or something? No, I don't. No, because toothpaste can actually... I've seen people using toothpaste to clean sinks and stuff. Right. It has got stuff in it. I've heard you can even use it to clean your teeth. Is that versatile? There's an idea. I do actually genuinely watch lots of videos of people refurbing trainers.

59Yeah. And it is genuinely amazing what they can do. They can take trainers at like decades old, white trainers. They look like shit. And then they bleach them. They put them under like a UV light and all this. And they look absolutely incredible. I'm not sure toothpaste is going to do the same thing. No, I have seen that. I have seen that. And also it might make them smell a bit nicer. Minty fresh trainers. Yeah. Just saying. I might start cleaning my feet with toothpaste. Okay. Just go straight to the root cause. Well, you don't have smiley feet. No, I don't really... Use your feet. Yeah, we established that.

39I don't really ever work up a sweat, do I? No, that's because you don't do anything. But anyway, get on with us before we end up arguing. Some of those hacks were questionable at best. Yeah, unlike co-ops, new meals range served. Now that is a hack that actually works. What have we got this time? This is chicken and mushroom Alfredo. That's right up your street. Can I ask you a question, Claire? How are you pronouncing this pasta? Fusilli. Okay, good. Why? I say fusilli. Yeah. I've heard some people call it fusilli. No, fusilli, fusilli. Anyway, we have chicken and mushroom Alfredo with fusilli and green veg.

20These are ready to cook meals made with fresh ingredients and you can have them on the table in 30 minutes without having to battle through some 12 step recipe. Perfect for a dinner for two. Italian inspired with six mains and 11 sides all ready to mix, match and make your own. I love chicken, Claire. You do. I love mushrooms. You do love mushrooms. I love cheese. Who doesn't love cheese? I love a sort of creamy cheesy sauce. Yeah. You know I do. Do you know what? I'd even go to say that this is probably my favourite out of the served range. Is it? Absolutely. Are you going to eat the veg? If I have to.

55You have to say yes. Yes. And the deal is great as well. If you're a co-op member, you can pick up a main and two sides for just£7. And you can grab it in store or even get it delivered in as little as 20 minutes through co-op delivery, Uber Eats, Deliveroo and Just Eat. That's your lot for this week's served up hacks. But remember, if you want a hack that delivers, Co-op's new meal range, Served, is the way to go. No faff, no fuss, just proper food. Dinner is served. £8 for non-members, Co-op group membership required. Subject to availability, see coop.co.uk slash served for details. Delivery partners, T's and C's apply.

37Hey, Claire. Yeah? We've had some listeners get in touch. Thank God. I've got a message here from Mike. Mike, hey! His message is called a podcast first question mark. He says, hi, James and Claire. Just wanted to send a quick and slightly sleep deprived message to say thanks. My girlfriend and I just had our first baby. Congratulations. And weirdly, you were kind of there for it. Wait, what part? Hang on, Mike. James. She had your podcast playing through most of the labour. Oh, my God. No pressure, but your voices are now forever associated with contractions, screaming and gas and air. Claire shouting at James, let me fucking speak, man, was a particular highlight of my...

31That was the first thing your little baby heard coming into this beautiful world. Well, no, it was during the labour. I don't know if they... Hopefully you turned us off for when your baby's ears came out. During the epidural, she was trying to breathe through the pain and when the doctor asked where it hurt, she blurted out, in my back, epidural wanker. Nice. Anyway, we had a little boy, Parker. He's loud, hungry, and already looks a bit judgy. So basically perfect. Now, the big question, are we your first podcast baby? Because if so, we're expecting a certificate or at the very least, a shout out.

04Thanks again for the laughs. You made a weird, painful, magical day even better. All the best, Mike, Erin, and baby Parker. P.S. I got him home and immediately showed him the Inbetweeners. And there's a little picture of baby Parker in a little cot watching what I believe is the bunk off episode of the Inbetweeners. Oh, that's going to be a cool baby. Hey, listen, I think it is a podcast. Well, you're the... I think it is a podcast first. Let us know if you listen to this podcast during your labour. We'd like to hear from you. or baby making yeah imagine imagine somebody put us on to do it we do don't we we do it's the only way you can it's the only way I can perform yeah you've got to hear yourself I hear all the funny stuff that I've said anyway the next email is from Luke and he says you're never too old question mark there are always question marks hi James and Claire actually he does say hi Claire and James thank you very much you went in the huff the other day why because we did I don't know if you caught it but we were on this morning oh yeah and we were driving in I didn't go into a huff come on I didn't go into a huff I couldn't give a fuck we were driving in and you have to like say who you're bringing into the building like the driver brought us in and the security stopped us and the driver was like Claire Buckley and James was like come on well he's complicated And I said, hey, listen, it's...

43No, it's fine. It just depends on how quickly you want to get through security and stuff. Do you know what I mean? Oh, why? If they'd say James Buckley? Oh, sorry. Yeah, go on, go through. Go, go, go, go, go. All right. There'd have been a swarm of women there. Absolutely. Holding up posters. That is the problem. That's probably why they gave your name. Why? Because of all my adoring fans. All right. Anyway, what's Luke's problem? Question for you. Should there be an age limit on hobbies? Yeah, there should. If I see you fucking skateboarding hour 25, you're a fucking idiot. Let me just strap yourself in.

18Yeah, take a swig of beer because this is going to get you angry. I'm 38 and I've recently purchased an e-scooter, mate. Mate. Part of me feels like I'm maybe too old to be riding it. Part of you? But if it's something... What part? Your fucking back? The body, the body, the old 38-year-old body is the part. But if it's something I enjoy, then why shouldn't I? Luke, if you're asking my opinion, mate, yes, you are too old. But what do I know? Not a lot. What do I know? Not a lot. And Claire, tell Luke, have I ever been wrong about stuff? All the time, all the time. Listen, here's the thing. If you're not harming anybody and you've got a nice little hobby, it makes you happy, then go for it.

02but maybe just take into consideration if you look like a wanker or not right yeah is that fair? you've got to offset it you've got to think about it you've got to he does say it's something I really enjoy well good so if the enjoyment is more than the wankerage then good then you're all good perfect don't listen to me I fucking believe in ghost dogs that's what gets me through I believe in ghost dogs and I'm just a miserable bastard just unhappy inside you're asking the wrong people do you know what maybe I need a fucking e-scooter maybe do you know what imagine if I bought an e-scooter and then like the next week we come in to do this podcast you go got anything to moan about and I just go no tell you something Claire I've just I've been going about on this e-scooter and I know I slagged them off before but they just make me so fucking happy I wouldn't like that you don't want me happy I would not like that at all.

04I know that you say. No, you are annoying. You're not annoying because you're miserable. Right. Oh, there's other things. Yeah, that's. So imagine if I was happy as well. Yeah, happy and annoying. Yeah, no, I couldn't handle that. But that brings us nicely onto today's theme, Claire, actually. The theme is you're never too old or are you? I think you are. I think you are. The first thing here, clubbing and shots. I remember being 18 years old going, this is a fucking pain in the ass and it's shit and the music's shit and I can't hear anyone talking. Drinks cost a fucking fortune. I've got to somehow get home tonight as well.

37This is fucking rubbish. Why are we all doing this? Everyone's a knob. I feel like I'm going to get beaten up in a second. I'm genuinely scared for my life. This is awful. You were the guy who never pulled in the club then, obviously. What are you talking about? Don't you worry about that, mate. Well, you wouldn't have felt like that if you were pulling buds. No, but I just didn't like it. I didn't like the... So you did? Yeah, of course I fucking did. Did you? Yeah Who? What's her name? Dunno Where does she live? Local Listen I'm not saying that the standard was fucking I'm not like bragging I'm not saying call so fucking Paul I'll tell you what I'm not bragging about it Trust me I um A lot of those times I should have just not bothered I've never been one for shots I've never been one for shots I can't do it They make the night go all wonky what enjoyment do you get?

32It's like drinking petrol. Yeah, the only shot I could ever stomach was an apple sauce. And that's not really a shot. And it's not, it's like, it's a bit wimpy, that one, isn't it? Like, oh, we're having a shot of vodka. Yeah. Let's all have a shot of tequila. Well, I got offered a shot of tequila when we did Sam and Pete's thing at the auto. And I, like, pretended to take it. And then everybody called me out on pretending to take it. So then I, like, did a little bit of it. and I was like I just I was like I'm going home to kids I know in a one year old puppy I've got to get up to let out at 7am and then do like I'm good I don't want to start vomiting on the way home and all that sort of stuff no so I would definitely say that me and you are too old for clubbing and shots yes we're nearly 40 well you are going on a bouncy castle hmm well we know you're too old for that yeah you've injured yourself doing that yeah roller coasters again same thing I do love a roller coaster you do love a roller coaster I go on them all we went on that I go on them all I can't say no to a roller coaster especially if it looks really scary and James is like oh no I don't know about that I'm like we're doing it we're doing it roller coasters don't scare me they've never scared me they've never like roller coasters I can put your hand in I can take or leave a roller coaster this is why I feel like I'm too old for a roller coaster because it's just like Who gives a fuck?

01However, right? You always feel sick afterwards. Oh, they do make me... So this is the problem. They don't scare me. Okay. We went Knott's Berry Farm years ago in California and they've got the first or the oldest roller coaster. Yeah. Right? Wooden one, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's wooden. It's all made out of wood. It looks fucking like you want to take this down. How is this still going, right? It was so rattly that it hurt my back. So I didn't find it scared. You do loop the loop and all that stuff. And I don't find that stuff scary. I'm quite good with roller coasters. It just physically hurt me.

38It shuddered along so much that I, I don't know, compressed my spine or something. Okay. Buying standing tickets to concerts? Do like a seat. You do? Well, I went to Oasis recently. Yeah. And I went twice. And they look like they're having the time of their lives. Don't get me wrong. Mm-hmm. Down in the crowds. Yeah. You didn't envy them? No. You were happy up in your little box? I was happy up there. Well, the last gig I went to, I think, was Paul McCartney. We were in a little posh box. We were in a little posh box. And what happened? You went down and got amongst it in the crowd. Why? I don't know.

16I can't remember. Because some old fucking bint came up behind me and was like, can you sit down, please? Oh, yeah. You got asked to sit down in the box? I was like, are you joking? We're at a concert. He's playing Baby You Can Drive My Car. Yeah. And you want me to just like... I don't remember that. Yeah, you do. I was furious. Me and Harrison were like... And by the way, you're in a box, so the stage is way over there. And she was like a little bit behind me. Me and Harrison were up and we were kind of like doing a little bit of... Who would just tell the fuck off? Well, I was a bit like...

49Who tells anyone to sit down during a football match? And by the way, this wasn't our... During a gig? This wasn't our box. It was the box beside us. Right. and she came up and said something and I was like oh alright okay and also you're about three foot tall then some other guy then did this from the same box some other guy came up and said it and I just went I'm done me and Harrison went down the two old men both born 16 yeah no you can enjoy yourselves me and Harrison went down at the front I can't stand that people who tell people to sit down at a gig winds me up if you want to sit down and watch a gig Like, watch it on the telly in your house.

30Yeah. Fucking tell me to sit down during the hard day's night. Are you crazy? Yeah, so I fucked off. But, yeah, no, so you're never too old for, well, obviously you are. If you're a miserable old ****, then you are too old to buy standing tickets. I bleep that. I love this one. Friends. That's for you. Because I do think you can be too old for friends. I do think there does, and I'm getting to it. I mean, I got to it years ago. But there is a time where you go, it's enough. It's enough with the friends. With the wanting to meet up. We've done it like, we've done everything, haven't we? We know each other.

05Yeah. We're good. I know everything about you. Yeah. I know absolutely everything about you. Yeah. What are we going to talk about? It's enough. Let's do it. Let's call it a night. No, I love my friends. What are we now the right age for? Well, I was going to ask you when you were talking earlier about getting an e-scooter, I was going to say, have you taken up golf yet? I've not. I'd like to are you going to do it maybe or is it just something you've talked about it's just something I've talked about why did you lean forward for that because I needed to get the air out good lord that's an old thing what would you have done that when you were younger would you have done that when you were courting me probably no I don't think you would have no like that's a very sort of not caring that's like an old man farts in a lift and doesn't care yeah yeah I'm looking forward to that I'm really looking forward to just be able to fart with him.

55Yeah, it was me. Just go, it was me. What do you want? Tell you one thing. One of the first nights that we spent the whole night together in the same bed, right? I was up all night. I needed to fart so fucking badly. You don't want to do that. Why didn't you go to the toilet? Because you, it was back when you, it was in the early days where you liked me, right? And you had your arm around me. And I was like, I'm stuck man I was up for hours and hours and hours Why didn't you just move me? Why didn't you just go for a pee? I don't know I don't know why You knew it was limited time Well I don't know You knew I better enjoy this while I was here Yeah I suppose But I do remember I think it was like I think it was like Either the first or second night That we shared a bed Okay Right we get it I'm not saying we did anything Because we waited until we got married I mean explain that to Harrison Harrison was at the wedding Explain that to Harrison What things are we the right age for?

58Barbecuing Yeah, moaning Yeah, barbecuing Yeah, rambling Rambling Less strain on the new knees Is that like going through fields and stuff like that? Oh no, we're not old enough for that yet I sort of am No That's what I do with the dog every day Yeah, you do a bit I go rambling every day You do, yeah Because we go through fields We go through forests Yeah Yeah Yeah. Cruise ships. You've never wanted to do the old cruise ship. I don't want to do a cruise. A cruise is not for me. Have these people not seen Titanic? Listen, you're very unlucky. You're very unlucky. However, I feel like the cruise ship is perfect for me because it's just everything on your doorstep.

37Yeah, but it's the same people. Loads of people. One Inbetweeners fan finds you on that cruise ship. You're stuck waiting for fucking two weeks. My favourite kind of person. Oh, wow. You can talk to him. You know I love talking about the Inbetweeners. But the only thing I worry about is the last time I was on a boat, it was at my mate John's stag do. We went fishing off the coast of Wales. Yeah, you got really sick. Got so sick. I never had seasickness before. And I wonder if the, is it because these ships are so big that you don't feel it? Obviously, we were on like a little fishing boat and it was just sort of like swaying constantly.

10Yeah, I think so. Have you seen the Netflix documentary, Poop Cruise? I started watching it. That's the, right. I'm going to make myself look like an idiot now. I started watching it and then I thought, and the people that I were interviewing got on my nerves. And I had to stop. I was like, these people are fucking annoying. It's cruise people, baby. Well, yeah. There's like this one woman that's like, that is a part of the staff. And they're like, yeah, things get so wild. All the stories that you've heard about cruise ship. we were having sex and I was like right that's enough you're at that age yeah I was like no thanks swinging swinging well because that's an old person thing that's an old person thing give me your hand this is a compliment to you baby if we went swinging I'd be losing out whoever like whoever we're swinging with sure like one of my mates or something like that yeah he's winning but um you know why what one of your mates wants to do me I'm just asking why no I'm just asking I'm just asking who get your hands off me that is an old person thing though there's not a lot of young swingers yeah old people do swinging I'm not into it man I don't get it believe me mate I don't want to do I listen I tolerate you I don't I'm not having anybody else up there Absolutely not Not up there No Gardening Oh that is too boring I go through phases I go through phases of like Watering the plants And looking after my bushes and stuff I don't keep it up all the time It's only It's more like summer When it's like on show and stuff You've got to really keep on top of it Let's go Carry on We've still got old age to look forward to Haven't we?

07Yeah We're not elderly No we're not But we were just talking about, you know, being able to fart. Yeah. With, you know. That's an old man thing though, yeah. Sleeping. I mean, a lot of this stuff. Long ears. You're looking forward to your ears getting really long. I don't think that'll happen to me. That happens to old men. I don't think it'll happen to me. But listen to this, right? Mm. What are we looking forward to doing when we were older? Yeah. Fuck all, sleeping, wearing tracksuits every day, pipe and slippers. I mean, I don't have a pipe yet. No, but that's pretty much how we live. Yeah.

50When she's not dragging us onto this morning and stuff. Jesus Christ. If she'd let us live, we'd be doing fuck all all the time. Here's some examples of celebs who are childish in the best way. Tom Hanks collects vintage typewriters and plays with them like toys Who told you Who'd say they plays with them like toys Where are you getting that information The internet Right Is there a video of him saying that It's in an article Right From where I'd have to go back Yeah See You're peddling shite here Ed Sheeran He's well into his Lego Yeah He looks it What does that mean he just looks like a bit a nerd doesn't he yeah I mean he was because let me tell you something you don't have to be a nerd to be into Lego Claire no you're into Lego yeah yeah yeah you and Ed Sheeran yeah point proven Elon Musk plays video games for hours and once live streamed himself playing Overwatch nothing wrong with that Overwatch yeah what's that a game it's a video game yeah right and Ant and Dec are known for pranking each other constantly like school kids who never grew up they do that for social media yeah they do that because they're fucking paid to do it if we were on Ant and Dec's money I'd be well happier you want me to play a prank on James for a fucking hundred grand every Saturday night I'll do it let me tell you something about Ant and Dec I like Ant and Dec actually and I know this I do like them they hate each other they absolutely hate each other is that true?

18yeah it's true is that right? yeah is that insider info? I know for a fact that Ant has a little Dec voodoo doll I heard that as well that he sticks pins in and all sorts yeah yeah who would you no who would you do Ant or Dick why not ask me hang on that's a bit sexist Dick by the way wouldn't it be Dick yeah I think well that's what I like I mean Ant's no giant by the way no I don't their eyes probably by the way are at the same height it's just Ant's got that head that that tips him over the edge another foot or so. Oh, God. They're brilliant though, aren't they, Ant and Dick? I do like Ant and Dick.

04I really like them. Here you go. There's five centimetres difference between Ant and Dick and that is all forehead. It's only five centimetres? Yeah. Wow. They should release a sex tape. That would go mental. Can you imagine if they were fucking each other this whole time? They should just release a sex tape. Can you imagine? What do you mean, can I? I do. What do you think I'm thinking of when we're in bed together, Claire? Could you imagine if that came out? That they were doing that? What's the matter? What, it's not where you thought it was going to go? Right, let's move on. Let's move on.

39Hey, Claire. Yes, James. It's time for a regular feature. It's Petty Revenge Stories. Petty Revenge. Petty Revenge. Petty Revenge. Petty Revenge. Oh, what a lovely little feeling. Let's hear what the listeners are scheming That is so boosh That is so mighty boosh We've had some petty revenge stories coming Good Just a quick reminder You can get in touch with us By emailing thebuckleys at platformmedia.uk Or you can message us At thebuckleyspod on Instagram and TikTok We want to hear your petty revenge stories please Annabelle is here Her message is called Careful Lumpy gravy Hi James and Claire I've got a petty revenge to share To set the scene I'm a poet and I didn't even realise To set the scene my mum's ex-partner was My mum's ex-partner was a real nasty piece of work Who none of our family liked And one Christmas he upset my brothers and I We told our grandma about how upset we were And she was livid So when she was plating his Christmas dinner up She made him some separate gravy The gravy in question contained shavings of her foot file.

57Fuck off! Oh no! Oh! Oh! I can't even read this out Claire. This is not me. No man. I can't even do this. Just read that last sentence. I can't get that last sentence out. Oh! Oh! He was blissfully unaware that he was eating cheesy foot flaky gravy. Love the pod. Annabelle. Wow. I told you to be careful with her. That's it. Wow. Oh, you've got to really hate somebody to do that. Wow. Listen, don't fuck with your kids. Don't fuck with the grandkids, not the grandkids. Not your baby's babies. Yeah. That's a whole different level. Gav is here and their message is called Fartbox. Gav says, hi, guys.

45I wanted to share my petty revenge method for when I was a young apprentice working on a building site in Glasgow. The tradesman I worked with was a nasty bastard. If I made any mistakes, I'd obviously get a bollocking. However, if it was his fuck up, he'd always pin it on me. The first few times I took it on the chin, but after that, it started to become more frequent, as I probably came off as an easy target. So, whenever one of these incidents happened, maybe once or twice a week, I'd rip a big old fart into his lunchbox and quickly seal the lid back on. This was made easy to pull off as he was a lazy fucker and would never go to the van to grab his own tools.

25He'd just send me and I'd happily oblige. I loved watching his reaction as he opened his lunchbox and bit into his shit particle sandwich. You could tell he knew something wasn't right and would start blaming his missus for being a crap chef. I realise that this is absolutely rank behaviour, but I think it falls into your category of petty revenge nice. Love the pod. All the best, Gav. Yeah, it does, yeah. Classic. Fart on something. Yeah. Here's another from Jodie. Her message is called crisp sheets. We all love crisp sheets, don't we? Crisp sheets or crispy sheets because there's a difference.

03Here we go. Hi, both. A quick revenge story. My partner hates crumbs in the bed. Who likes crumbs in the bed? Oh, nobody likes them. No. And although I don't like it, my partner will literally freak out over any small crumb. Yeah, I'm the same. I feel like I can feel it. Yeah, you just give it a little, yeah. One night we had had a few drinks and come home and had a disagreement. Anyway, long story short, we had a full tub of Pringles in the cupboard and I decided to crush them all up and sprinkle them all under the covers of his side of the bed. They were sour cream and chive. To say he was fuming was an understatement, but it was worth every crumb.

42Jodie, that's a nice relationship. I like that. She didn't go too far Didn't go too far Right You're having a disagreement You have an argument You have a bit of a barney A bit of a fallout Well I fucking tell you what You're getting crisps in your bed tonight Right yeah That is a bit rubbish actually Now that I think about it Rubbish? Yeah Why what do you want to do? Smash the car up or something What did I always say to you? What? If you ever did anything bad to me What would I do? The laptop The game and stuff Yeah all my video games and things Yeah All your little What you got My little Game Boy Pocket.

17Yeah, your Game Boy. Yeah, you've got the... What's the one? It begins with an A. My Atari. Yeah, Atari. The old PlayStations you've got. They are proper... What's that? The slow motion with the... Yeah. With the bat. Yeah. Just think of a family guy. Yeah, and the Mini. And this is why... I'd put a knife in the stupid purple seats of the Mini. Right. That's it for this week's episode of The Buckleys. I love it right I love it how I've not done anything I've not done anything but in your head I'm just thinking in your head you're angry with me now I'm a bit pissed off yeah I'm a bit yeah anyway that's it for this week's episode of the Buckleys thank you very much for listening you can get in touch with your stories and questions by emailing thebuckleys at platformmedia.uk or you can message us at thebuckleyspod on Instagram and TikTok and don't forget to follow and subscribe to the show on Spotify or whatever podcast app that you like to use and if you are feeling extra generous why not go ahead and leave us a review all that is left is for Claire to say see you next Thursday go to change change it
