In short

Season 22 kickoff of The Bunt, focused on UK skateboarding via guest Blondie McCoy, plus skate-media shoutouts, NFL fantasy plug, and a “Nightmare Blunt Rotation” story about Thames/Thrasher-era connections.

Guest backgrounds

Blondie McCoy is a London-raised skateboarder who got noticed through skate demos and early Palace involvement. He describes heavy early injury history and a Jackass/CKY/Viva La Bam influence. He later co-ran/owned Thames (with his art project background) and emphasizes skate filmmaking and clothing design involvement.

Key claims

  1. Blondie’s first major industry break came from skating an Adidas demo at South Bank after trading Reeboks for Adidas Superstars; Adidas assumed he was part of the demo, leading to rapid sponsorship momentum.
  2. He says his split from Palace/Thames-era partners wasn’t about a single incident but about control, transparency, and principle: he wanted more input on how his tricks were filmed/edited and more visibility into business accounts.
  3. He frames his Thames “new era” as skating-first momentum, accelerated by acquiring Gabbers (Gabriel Summers) as a pro.

Notable examples

  • South Bank daily skating in school uniform; Chewy/Rory/Lev noticing him and giving boards and Palace Chanel/Versace-style shirts.
  • His “buzz” break-in story: climbing through windows/terrace after a buzzer failure, then later learning the building needed glass replaced.
  • Long taxi ride: Rome to Milan (~6.5–7 hours) for a skate mission, with Bluetooth audio of Dylan Thomas “Under Milk Wood.”
  • Rapid-fire highlights: favorite video Minefield (Alien Workshop); favorite trick nose blunt slide on a bank; biggest influence Natas (Wally).

Guests

Blondie McCoy (main). Other named figures: Gabbers/Gabriel Summers (pro acquisition), plus hosts Safer and Donovan, and recurring crew mentions (DJ Jones, The Ghost, Ants One, Richie Valdez, Gabbers, Chewy, Rory, Lev, Lucien, Brady, Jerry Sue, Andrew Reynolds, Jamie Thomas, Wiz Khalifa).

8:15But massive surprise. The star of the show, aside from the guy who made it, is coming on next week, so I can't blow it. We'll save it till next week. You dig what I'm saying? All right, it's time. People ask for more UK guys this, more UK guys that. Well, UK is in the building today. Let's get it cracking. Blondie McCoy, here we go.

8:42All right. Very special guest in the building today. We've got Blondie McCoy. Man, what a pleasure having you here. Likewise. Thank you for having me. So, Blondie, I know you've listened to an episode or two, picked through a couple. I listened to Daniel Wheatley's Rapid Fire. I listened to the first 10 minutes as well of Curran Capel's one. But Gabba's just told me I never listened to the beginning of one because, you know, I wanted to. It's not personal. I just don't. I planned it so many times between the kids and this and that and the other. I just haven't had the time. That's my disclaimer to start this show off.

9:19Don't just lower the expectations. Lower the bar. No, it's all right. They're just little little warm up questions, you know, get used to each other here. The first one is favorite skateboard and favorite sports moment. The first thing that came to mind was the Nata spin for me, because I think it's a criminally underrated single trick. Personally, in my skateboarding life, it's not so much a pinpointable moment, but a time when I first started skateboarding in London with my good friend Jack. and it was really just the two of us. We both found it difficult to find anyone else who wanted to spend any time with us.

10:04So we had each other and we skated and it was just that spirit of before anything really, before anything at all, certainly before taking skating seriously, skating as a youthful spirit and fun. The good old days. yeah i think all skaters have been there yeah it was fun it was a that was a good time what was the other question sports moment you much of a sports guy not really not really i like doing it i don't really watch it i have a personal sports moment which was one of the best moments of my life actually and it's not it doesn't pertain to skateboarding oh shit i never really went to school much and I was suspended from my primary school for some violence that we need not get into and ever since then every parent and every teacher I felt blamed everything on me anytime any other kid got into trouble it was somehow my influence I felt that people looked a sconce at me and particularly other kids' parents.

11:24So anyway, I turned up one day for sports day, which was kind of an anomaly in itself because I didn't really turn up very much. Absence was the main issue more than anything. I wasn't particularly badly behaved. I was just never there. But I did turn up this day for sports day. And we did the high jump because, you know, it's classic athletics. and I everyone went out and I kept going it kept going up an inch at a time and then half an inch at a time and so on and I kept them waiting there I went past the school record and I kept going and going and going and I realized in myself that I was looking at the other kids parents while I was doing it and getting some kind of perverse kick out of proving them wrong, I suppose, showing them that whatever they thought of me, I could do something even if that something was as primal, as simple as jumping high off the ground.

12:29That was a really great day for me. It was a really great moment. I think if I still spoke to my therapist, which is a different story so you might read into that realizing that you get a kick out of annoying people out of upsetting people or at least it's never the goal but i've always considered it a bonus i like to rub i like to rub the wrong people up the right way as well and maybe that was okay maybe that was a maybe that day marked the beginning of that of that spirit love that

13:04Davis Torgerson:it's monumental epic um so blondie take us back to the beginning man where'd you grow up and how'd you get into skating i grew up around here i've always been around here really my dad's always been around here my mom when i lived with her she was in southwest london technically it's known as greater london i think technically it's only known as greater london i would argue that it's not even really London actually it's in the suburbs I would argue it's a very nice place to retire not an especially nice place to grow up just a bit boring and remote and I got into skating I think I was 10 or 11 I'm not really sure and I think the earliest thing that I can remember in skateboarding which really interested me I'm not sure if it's what introduced me to skateboarding but I found it fascinating was actually Jackass and CKY and Viva La Bam.

14:07Classic. That's awesome. I was so young and it kind of, it just showed me that skateboarding existed. And then I, and then I discovered Element and then I discovered other American skateboarding and then eventually British skateboarding. But I think it was Bam Margera, probably on TV, that brought skateboarding to my attention. And I don't believe I was very interested in anything prior to that. My mom told me I really liked Lego before that. But I think skateboarding was what kind of put color in the world for me. As a young kid watching Jackass and CKY, you ever get into any of those stunts yourself?

14:54Absolutely. And also, I wouldn't call myself a naturally talented skateboarder. Everything is quite difficult for me. I think skateboarding fundamentally is falling over and hurting yourself. And it is for the person to whom that one in a hundred times you don't fall over is gratifying enough to continue. you know but i fell over more than most people i broke my right wrist five times my left wrist six times my ankle my teeth and never doing anything especially dangerous to answer your question i think all of that jackass energy did influence my skateboarding yes that's awesome so what would you consider your first big break in the skate industry like where did the career all get started to me if i were to pinpoint one moment it would actually be skating an adidas demo at south bank i was getting shoes from reebok through palace nothing significant really just happened to be happening and i heard that adidas were doing a demo at south bank and i traded the Reeboks at Slam for some Adidas superstars.

16:13And I went to the demo and I skated the demo and everyone, including the Adidas team assumed that I was part of the demo. Basically I turned up at this Adidas demo and acted like I was on Adidas. And within a few weeks that became true. A few weeks later, I was on a trip. And a few months later, I shared a part technically with Chewy and Benny in away days there. That's a huge break. And that happens quick.

16:41Davis Torgerson:So you went from zero to a hundred. I mean, that was a epic story that it worked out for you, but I hate when the hometown heroes get encouraged to barge demos. And now you probably just, anyone listening to this, who's hometown heroes about to try and get on the team and ruin some demos. Why do you hate that? Well, especially as someone who lives in Toronto and a team comes through, I don't want to see the people that go to that skate park every day skate. I want to see the people coming through skate. Can I tell you something? From the perspective of a sponsored skateboarder whose responsibility it is to perform at that demo, it's very different.

17:21We were just in Manchester, a mini ramp demo, and most of the people on the bill are not known for their mini ramp skills, should we put it that way? I think Gustav actually told someone there, please don't stop the locals from skating the mini ramp. And I would argue they put on more of a show for us. Maybe it's just coming from a different perspective, but I wouldn't discourage that personally. There's ways, but just sometimes when it's too much,

17:54Davis Torgerson:you know what I mean? But there's definitely, like your story is incredible. I did not know that. That's so sick how that worked out for you. and you know the odd like if the person there's some relation to the brand or something but like if all of a sudden there's like 10 hometown heroes and eric ellington gets snaked on his big spin front board by a local kid it's just you know what i mean oh you wouldn't have boundaries yeah no no you wouldn't have that and i wouldn't have done that no no i'm not saying you most respect yeah if eric ellington was big spin front boarding in front of me i'd sit down whatever the circumstance yeah no i feel like we're on the same page there's a gray area there where it can work out um and happy it worked out for you uh you mentioned pals briefly what's the origin story of you getting on that brand that's less interesting but uh i'll tell you at the time so i went to school secondary school after that school that i got after that school with the high jump.

18:55I went to secondary school just over the river from South Bank. And so I was always at South Bank. I would take the train up from where my mom lived to the train to Waterloo, but I was supposed to get off at Vauxhall and take the 87 bus. But I would let the doors, I would just let the time tick on and watch the doors close and carry on to Waterloo and go skating at Southbank in my school uniform instead at 8.30 in the morning until, well, you know, for an indefinite period of time. So I was skating Southbank every day. And at that time, Rory was also skating Southbank every day. Karim, Chewie saw my skating.

19:48and Chewy and Rory, I think, really were the kind of instigators. And they said, you should give this kids some boards and see what happens. And so I received a message from Lev saying he'd given me some boards and some T-shirts. He'd left them behind the counter. It slammed for me. And I went and got them immediately. It was a double extra large Palace Chanel. the Chanel t-shirt that's how long ago this was it was that first or second run of palace t-shirts it was the Chanel and Versace it was kind of the beginning of that big fashion house logo knockoff thing and I would argue that they did it best and I loved that t-shirt but it was like a nightie on me do you know what that is in English that's like a gown a dress that an old lady sleeps in a gown it was a gown and uh the boards were eight five it was definitely just whatever happened to be by the door that he was running out of at the time uh but i was over the moon about it because you know i didn't see it coming at all and that it meant the world to me and that yeah perhaps not as not as anecdotal a story as the south bank demo with adidas but certainly meant a lot.

21:11That's wicked, man. Take what you can get in the early days. And it was a huge privilege for me to grow up in tandem with that company. I was maturing and that company was maturing. And ultimately, we matured in different directions. I was honored to be there for that ride to be so present in that in that time where it was just going from strength to strength there was a boom in skateboarding and palace capitalized on that like no one else despite not being the best skater despite not having my personal life in any order whatsoever However, I was at the forefront of the videos and certainly, well, I was certainly in almost all of the pictures for a long time.

22:04It was really, it was me and Lucien. After I left, I noticed that they made more of an effort to diversify and depend upon 10 different people. And now they shoot all the skaters and a number of other people as well. But for a very long time, and I suppose this is not unrelated to the Adidas connection, it was just me in everything. And I would argue that that was the most interesting time to be in.

22:32Davis Torgerson:So fast forward a bit, you're on Palace with Chewy and all that, and then eventually decide to part ways. What was the reason behind that move?

22:45I did my company Thames I've done it since I was a about 15 as well it was actually my art project in school and then I had palace became my business partners in that again when I was very young, still a teenager. And I just didn't really, at first, I was expected just to supply the designs and let them handle everything, everything. And when I was 16 or 17, that was exactly the arrangement that I wanted. As I got a little bit older, that very involvement or lack thereof became a problem for me. I wasn't especially proud to put my name to the products or much of it on the whole. And that was certainly a catalyst, a factor.

23:49But the real reason why we split up was because we have very different ideas on how much input a skateboarder should have on their own skateboarding. I know this matters to varying degrees to different people. Some people, like Chewy, for instance, is very happy to completely put himself in the hands of Lev, in this case, and choose a song for them and choose the version of the chick and so on. With me, not so much. I remember really doing my very best to get multiple versions and multiple angles of chicks. And I thought that I would at least be able to see those tricks. But I didn't want to really direct it to anywhere near the degree that I'm kind of fastidiously controlling now of my own company now.

24:50It was not – I don't believe that I was overbearing or wishing to be overbearingly involved. But there was a clear contrast there. You know, I remember one conversation with Brady, who was the team manager at the time. He was just baffled that I would want to. And he said, but it's Lev's video. And I just realized I just felt very differently about that. Of course, Lev is a mastermind video editor. Brilliant. A great artist as far as filmmaking is concerned. And there was never really actually any incidents. There's no particular incident where I'm gutted that he used that and not that. But it was more the principle of it.

25:38Seemingly, it was just not to be questioned, that you would just do the sweating and get it done. And then you'd just see if it were used at all, if it were used to this song. You know, just something fundamentally seemed very wrong to me about that. So that's, in a nutshell, it's that. We had different ideas of how essentially my physical labor should be presented. that combined with not really being totally sure that the Thames company was being run the right way. I mean, they weren't very transparent with me about that either. It was not just that they wouldn't show me tricks. They wouldn't really show me the accounts for the company, which I technically owned 50 % of.

26:39Now, I know you could argue that the accounts, there wouldn't have been anything particularly significant. It wouldn't be a case of anyone's cheating me out of any significant amount of money. But I just wanted to be able to see them. I felt like I continued to be treated as a child when all I really was trying to do was, you know, get an understanding of what business, the business which I started was doing. But, you know, they sort of acted like I was hassling them to, you know, ringing them up asking them to read me a bedtime story or something you know i don't think that i maintain that nothing i ever asked for was was it was uh objectively too much and also and also when you're 15 or 16 and you start skating for someone and you're not close with your dad and you don't have very many you don't have otherwise at home a role model or a father figure and suddenly you're around all of these 30 something year old men you totally believe that they have your best interests at heart because you want to believe that even if they didn't necessarily say that you want to believe that there's a trust there that there's a mutual looking out for each other there and you're a little bit heartbroken you're a little bit heartbroken when you find that that's not exactly the case when you find that they're kind of writing something, you know, sneak dissing, I think is the technical term, slipping into product descriptions or, or captions in magazines, something which is quite clearly aimed at you.

28:18It's, it's distressing. It was emotionally distressing. And I think just as we're talking about it, and I've never really talked about this, but as we're here now, I think that they knew that my entire social life was palace skateboards the pwbc skate gang was my gang and i was and they were my friends they were all of my friends i didn't have friends outside of that and i do believe that they thought that there was some margin for disrespect because I wouldn't leave, because I wouldn't cut myself off from what at the time admittedly felt like London. And I think that they exploited that to some degree.

29:11I think that they didn't take my unhappiness seriously or feel any sense of urgency to reassure me because I think they thought, well, you're not going to stop going on trips all the time with your best friends. And ultimately, I did choose to do that. And it was a little bit rough for a while, you know, but I have stayed friends with those people. I see a lot less of them. But that's life anyway. You grow up, you go in different directions. And to be honest, even at the time, even though Lucian and I lived together, Rory and I lived together, we only saw each other on trips anyway you know it's life you stop being in these constructed situations where you're together and you realize that you just don't really arrange to meet up quite so much but it doesn't mean anything i'm still friends with them when i do see any of them we slip straight back into it despite how much has changed in our lives sobriety was another big reason why i stopped being so close with a lot of those people uh again not a pinpointable falling out but you just realize that you're in the same room a lot less if the room is a warehouse in clapton at five in the morning you're not going to be there it's over you know it's just you drift for sure i've said a lot i don't know if any of that answers all the questions honestly amazing amazing from the outside looking in and seeing palace at like almost the height of its powers and it's grown into this huge thing to see such a young kid leave you know it was shocking to like the skate world it was like everybody had questions of why why now like palace what more could you want from a brand to be on you know like popularity it seemed like they were only putting on your friends like it seemed so london And it was a drastic change.

31:16I don't think anyone had left before that. I'm not sure if anyone has left since. It is, you know, it's a good, there were worse places to be, believe me. But I just, it wasn't, my grandfather also died. Will I keep it light, mate? Sorry. My grandfather also died around the time. of them opening up the shop in Japan very soon after the death. They said, you're still coming on the trip though, right? As in missing my grandfather's funeral to go and sort of stand around in a shop in Japan where my presence was not really required. We wouldn't have been doing much. And that upset me so much, that suggestion.

32:06I asked myself what he would do or what he would tell me to do. And it was leave. was take a bit of a chance and just see what else there was. And there was certainly no plan. I didn't have another board sponsor I wanted to go to. I'd shut down Thames because I didn't like it with them. I didn't enjoy Thames as a business. And I didn't plan on relaunching it. It wasn't very long before I realized that I really missed it and did relaunch it. But I had no plan. I just wanted to get out of that. I'm glad that I fell out with them then or left the company then for what to me were very real solid reasons.

32:52Because if I had hung around, it wouldn't have been very long before I had left because I simply didn't resonate with the output anymore. It looks to me almost as though someone has bought it and is following some kind of brand Bible how to run it. keep using these slang euphemism and phrases keep using this music that's my that's my honest opinion on that company and its output we're not even in the rapid fire round yet the night is young

33:35When you became a fire hydrant, you were proud. Most of your iron siblings ended up as scatholic. No shame in that. They're holding up buildings. But you were chosen to be part of something greater. You were placed across the great city of Los Angeles to protect and serve. Your purpose was to save lives. Or so you thought. Ten years in and not once had you been used. Not even on hot summer days when kids crack hydrants open to play in the water. No, your only role seemed to be as a backrest for people sleeping on the streets or a restroom for passing dogs. Again, no shame in that, but it wasn't what you had envisioned.

34:16Needless to say, you were not the happiest fire hydrant in the city. So when you saw that car lose control and come flying toward you, you didn't flinch. At least I'll go out with some dignity, you thought. The impact came fast. You were watched into the air. Water exploded in every direction. Thank you, Los Angeles, and good night. But what you didn't know in that moment was this. Skate legend Jerry Sue just happened to be nearby, camera in hand. No one knows why he was there or how he caught it all so perfectly, but he always is. A few days later, you're still lying, broken on the ground. But Jerry's photo is developed.

34:55It's posted on his Instagram. It blows up over 500 ,000 likes in a single day. You're an overnight social media sensation. Suddenly, you're everywhere. On the cover of Jerry's next photo book, printed on Ryan Lay's next pro model, on a t-shirt, a sweater, and even a kitchen towel. Yes, even skateboarders can cook. But that's not the end of it. Your story reaches the mayor of Los Angeles, who understands the value of skateboarding and social media and what it does for LA. She declares you a city treasure. You're reborn as a permanent statue and skate obstacle. You may not have saved lives, but now you've got Andrew Reynolds frontside flipping over you.

35:42And what's the next best thing? Who was driving the car that hit you? You know who it was. chp obran the worldwide leader in sunglasses and watches always doing it for the people

36:00so thames is back up and running at this point you know you guys are doing well and now you're making boards you have a small team but recently you've made a mega splash into adding up your first pro great friend of the show he made this interview happen huge shout out one of the worst guests we've ever had on random skater of the week gabriel summers man how did that connection come about my uh best mate jack he went to australia uh just before i met him he was there for six months or three months. And he came back. He had met, there was some thrasher thing going on at the time. He'd met Reynolds, Dolan, Chima, all of his favorite skaters.

36:56He was there hanging out with his Mount Rushmore of skating. And yet the person that he raved about the most was Gabbers because Gabbers had seen him in a park in Melbourne, realized that he was some English guy who didn't really know anyone and really taken him under his wing and introduced him to the Australian skateboarding community and all of those visiting pros. And it meant the world to him. And when he came back to London, he, in a way, did the same for me. He introduced me or tried to introduce me to London and London pros, but he himself was still something of an outcast, as I mentioned earlier, in London.

37:43So really what that actually looked like was just me having a mate. So he'd been bigging Gabbers up to me for 15 years or more before I met Gabbers. Gabbers has been skating for Adidas for a long time, but I went to Manchester almost this exact time. Last week, last year, they did the same thing. A big week in Manchester. And I went just for one demo and I met him there. And he was just a pleasure to be around. And of course, skating is a pleasure to watch sometimes. Sometimes it's very hard to watch as well. I mean, that is a compliment. But anyway, then we didn't speak again for a long time.

38:31But I was glad to know him. and I texted, I did a new line of t-shirts optimistically called the bread and butter range. In English, I don't know if that is a saying in America, but it means what you make your money on. Now, historically with Thames, we've actually, we've barely made any printed jersey. We were so determined in the beginning to not be thought of as another t-shirt company. We did almost everything other than t-shirts. We made jewelry, sunglasses, everything. Anyway, five years in, I get the itch to do some T-shirts. I feel in part like we've proved our point and in part like I should just stop taking that so seriously and just enjoy making T-shirts.

39:12So I made a series of T-shirts which are based on – they were basically the T-shirt versions of these shields which we make, which have ridiculous professions on them. these are the prefect shields in England but they normally say prefect or milk monitor or head girl or something and I'll say hash dealer and slag tits and studs and so on anyway so we made some t-shirt versions of that optimistically called the bread and butter range we made one that said gladiator on it and I texted Jared I said do you have gabbers as number because they've known each other forever and he said uh yeah I do but I think he's going to skate for limousine I said I wasn't even thinking about that I didn't know that he was planning on leaving but if he is planning on leaving I'll call him right now and I'll discard the idea of taking a picture of him in a t-shirt completely because that was only ever a small idea which I thought would be a fun thing to do I do that often with skaters you skate for other companies you know Thames is like that we can kind of do that people don't read into it too much but I said if you're leaving anyway I really would like for you to know how glad we would be to have you on Thames.

40:24It would come out of nowhere, and yet it would make total sense. A Gabba's Pro Board, a Thames Pro Board, because of course it couldn't be anyone, a Gabba's Pro Board seemingly falling out of the sky, and very quickly, I said it has to happen immediately, will mark the start of that new skate-focused era of Thames. And that's exactly what it's done. And it just, you know, it just, it came together in a matter of days. We printed them in London because I wanted him skating them immediately. And I think he was only not pro for about five days. I know that he's a big deal, but I was, personally, I was surprised by how many people were enjoying playing the guessing game when he announced that he was quitting zero.

41:18hundreds of comments online guessing where he was going not one of them guessing Thames and I really wanted to keep it that way wicked

41:28Davis Torgerson:we were pleasantly surprised hyped for the big homie did Jamie Thomas hit you up? coincidentally I met him the next week in Paris and he was very nice about it he congratulated me he's probably happy for Gabbersman we went to Dil's art show and someone took a picture of me, Dil and Jamie Thomas together and captioned it nightmare blunt rotation. You know something? I understand that. I get that. I don't mind. That's wicked. That's amazing. Okay, we're going to take a bit of a left turn here. What's the longest taxi ride you've ever taken? I think you're probably asking this because of Jared. If you reached out to Jared, when I was filming for my Freedom 19 Adidas video part, Jared had just moved to the UK.

42:20He'd just gotten on Adidas, and he came with me on these trips. And at this time, this was perhaps a different time for Adidas, perhaps a different time for me. You could charge a lot to the game, so to speak. We were skating in Rome, and I decided I wanted to skate something in Milan. instead and we we just missed the last train so we we uh asked the taxi driver there can you take us to milan i don't know how long it is it was through the night you know it's a significant journey he said you want to go now to milan okay i need to call my wife and then he got in the car and drove us all the way from rome to milan to go from one five-star hotel to another and skate.

43:09Wow. I didn't even know what it was. I probably didn't even get the trick. It was me and Mike O'Mealy. Do you know him? Australian, Irish, legendary skate photographer. Good, good old friend of mine. And Jared, who I barely knew, who had tonsillitis, bad. And a filmer called Hadrian Bucanic, who's a lovely guy, but I didn't know him at all. I'd met him on that trip. He was who Adidas had assigned to this project over the first trip or two of this project. And we were in this taxi and I connected to the Bluetooth and I started playing because, you know, Mike's got a similar sense of humor to me.

43:53And he knew that I didn't really know Jared. And more crucially, Jared didn't really know me. I started playing this old, long poem called Under Milk Wood by a Welsh poet called Dylan Thomas, read by Richard Burton. And it's just nonsense. I mean, it's not nonsense, but there's no narrative. It's just rambling, rambling, rambling. It's Bible Black in the Starless Town. It just goes off and on and on. and me and Jared's trying to read his book and he's feeling, you know, his death warmed up. And Hadrian's looking at him like, is this guy serious? And me and Mike are just side-eyeing each other, just absolutely cracking ourselves up at the discomfort that we were putting those two in.

44:46But, you know, we didn't do that for the whole journey. That's probably the longest. Holy shit. the longest taxi journey I've ever taken. How long is that drive? Yeah, I just looked it up. It's between six and a half to seven hours. Oh my God. Do you remember what the bill was? No, I don't remember. We just passed it on in those days. When I first met Price, he did all-time. I remember he was talking about the cliche gypsy tour and how he wanted to do the opposite of that and just fly everyone in to Qatar or spend as much as you could possibly spend. And that was inadvertently what we were doing in those first few trips.

45:31Oh, different times. Wow. Good times. That's epic. When was the last time you smoked weed? I know you've been speaking to Jared because I know that he would say this too. It's not interesting when it was. It's who it was with. the last time I smoked weed was with Wiz Khalifa.

45:53That's the end of the story. That's awesome. And Jared finds that funny for some reason. That's amazing. That's a dream blunt rotation, Blondie and Wiz Khalifa. I've never liked weed. It doesn't agree with me. You know, but it would have been rude not to. I must have somehow known that it would have been rude not to in that circumstance.

46:16Davis Torgerson:Yeah, that's awesome. What's the story where you had to potentially break into the homie's house? There was a buzz situation.

46:29Why did you ask me to do this? Why did I agree? What's the buzz situation? I just think the buzzer wasn't working or something. He couldn't buzz you in because he passed out or something. So this is real criminal activity. I was out with my friend. We took it for granted that this guy would always consider us welcome in his house. You're right, he didn't answer the buzzer. So he climbed over the fence into the forecourt. And then he didn't answer the buzzer inside either. And I noticed that one window of the building was open. It was the ground floor, but there were basement flats. So there was a drop underneath it.

47:16Here's the stairs, here's the window, and it's a sheer drop. And I climbed over the banister and tiptoed along the windowsill. And I'm on the windowsill now, and one leg is in the room now. And one leg, I'm straddling the window now, the windowsill. And I turn around, I see Jack. He's in the bushes saying, don't go any further. We'll figure something out. And I'm absolutely pissing myself laughing because I can see about three feet away from me is a huge man sleeping, really ripped bodybuilding type. And I'm just looking at this man and I'm looking at Jack and I'm having the laugh of my life on the inside, keeping quiet.

48:06And I tiptoe past him through his flat to the front door. his front door from the inside. I open it up. And I'm so excited that all the stealth goes out the window and I slam it behind me. And I open the front door to this building. And I let my friend in. And we go up the stairs because our friend's flat is on the top floor. And then we had to get past some fire escape window, which needed to be replaced, I later learned. and we're on his terrace and he has some windows to his bedroom from the terrace they're low and they open up what's like that like a cat flap or something and we somehow climb through them and we're we're uh crawling across the floor of his bedroom and his lights are on because he's a big donor unlike me uh when he wakes up and he looks at us both on the floor in commando position he says what on earth are you doing down there i said well we just you know he didn't answer the door so he said oh all right he lets us sleep there but i saw his uh flatmate sam hughes about two months on from this he used to work at slam and i think maybe he even wouldn't shake my hand because i said what have i done he says you know what you did i said i don't know and i'd completely forgotten it not that this wasn't a singular experience even in that that busy even in that mischievous time it was a memorable experience but i just it i uh you know i needed my memory jolted he said our building has been in complete distress since that the residence association whatever we've had to replace that glass they know that it's one of our mates the guy down there he's a really nice guy the bodybuilder he was petrified you know and uh the whole building had just been in a complete panic for such a long time and they knew that somehow the blame uh lay with them you know before their association with us but uh that was the last time i broke into a building if that was the question well the most significant time the most anecdotal time again good times um so you're a style icon in the skate world and beyond now you know even the most average joe has kit crises almost every day you know whether it's their pants their t-shirts whatever it is um you ever feel a little bit of pressure even just going skating to you know get the kit right i just i don't put any pressure on really in a way i probably make more effort than anyone because i run a clothing company but when you're this close to clothes all the time so fastidiously involved from the conception to the execution and you're on this cycle they keep coming they're almost old to you by the time they're new to anyone else it's one less decision to make every day i don't have those crises because i i make it easy for

51:33Davis Torgerson:myself i like that i feel like i'm the same way if i have a pair of pants i like i'm over rocking them until they're done because I hate switching pants. And what about you, Donna? Is it a crisis over there? All the time, dude. It's absolutely awful. Like I hate it. Pants are the craziest thing, man. Too tall. They're too baggy or too long or something. You know, I definitely, unlike you two, I think about it too much. Obviously. With skates, it is about trousers. It really is. Jacob Harris, once said, whatever you do, a wise man once said, whatever you do, don't ask Caspar Brooker about his trousers because you'll never, you will never leave that conversation.

52:23You'll be living in a podcast about trousers forever.

52:29Davis Torgerson:Whoever's listening, send some boxes my way. I need, I need more pant options. Maybe we'll get some Thames pants, man. I'll send you some, but by the sounds of it, I'll expect to receive them back shortly thereafter. Maybe from Donald. I'll send you some. I'm down. I'll send you some. Gladly. Hell yeah. Send me some screenshots. Got you, man. Appreciate that. So what's next for Blondie McCoy? I really am very into skateboarding again. for the first time in a long time and in a different way than ever before. I think there's great momentum behind Thames, great skate-related momentum there. So more trips, more footage.

53:18But I want to make more short films, maybe sillier things, arguably more fun things. I'm continuing my lifelong attempt to balance all of the enthusiasms. My life is a full one. It's filled predominantly with things which I filled it with. To answer your question, I'm just carrying on living it, trying every day to make a bit more of an effort to carefully distribute my time, my energy, to delegate where possible, to ditch where necessary and recognize that you can only, You will always get to the end of your day and have much more on your to-do list than could ever be done. But that's okay. Sometimes you need to enjoy the evenings and the weekend and holidays as well, especially when you have kids.

54:18There's not really any point otherwise.

54:20Davis Torgerson:That's a new life lesson for me. Love that. Absolutely love that. And thank you for taking the time with us. It's my pleasure. Busy, busy man over there. It's my pleasure. I got one follow-up with Thames. I'm sure you probably wouldn't want to spoil any names, but do you plan on adding more pros down the line? Down the line, sure. Agaba's acquisition is doing what it was supposed to do. It's not just telling people that Thames is taking skating seriously. I feel that that's reciprocated. I feel that skating is taking Thames seriously.

54:56and certainly there have been a number of people have messaged me either bluntly or cryptically you know now that they kind of know that i'm open to or it seems that i'm open to putting more people on that there can be such a thing as a thames pro well you know gabbers isn't just anyone. It was a specific fit and it has to be a specific fit. I'm more open to it than ever before. There's certainly a handful of skaters who I could see working but there's no real no real plan. There's no real there's nothing to spoil right now.

55:42Davis Torgerson:With that in mind, when I get the box just know I'm also working on my sponsor me tapes. Good to know. There will be a tape coming back. Do you know what's a sad thing? I never receive sponsor me tapes. I never receive. I never. Would you like that? Of course. I really would. You might now. Well. After this goes on YouTube, they might be, you might be flooded. Well, send them to will at thamesmmxx.com. We would love to see them. We really would. I get a lot of people who are already in good positions in the skate industry. I don't really know how much I could better that. I'm more interested in younger people who are taking it upon themselves to try to get in there.

56:26So please do send sponsor me tapes. Very retro, I know, but... We just got axed with that younger thing, Saifa. We're out. We had a chance for about 30 seconds there.

56:44Davis Torgerson:Yo, yo, yo. It's rapid fire with the ghost. And this week we are honored to be brought to you by my favorite board brand. You know, that's real skateboards. And Ashad's Metamorphosis Twin Tail Series made it to skate shops around the globe. You can get it in an 8, 825, 833, and even up to 8.5. You dig? With all types of wheelbases. Yo, Ashad, just saw you in Montreal Still running and still gunning Can't stop, won't stop A goat of this generation Go grab yourself an Ashad Twin Tail and see if you Can switch frontside flip and frontside flip Off roofs

57:32Davis Torgerson:Alright Blondie, you ready for a little rapid fire? Sure, probably won't be that rapid I'm a rambler, as you've noticed But why not? Alright, let's get it, favorite skater Mark Gonzalez. That's an easy one. Has anyone said that before? I wonder how... Once or twice. I wonder how many people have wanted to say that, but didn't want to appear unoriginal. I could give you a more interesting answer, but I'd be lying. Mark Gonzalez is my favorite skateboarder of all time. Love it. Favorite video. Favorite full-length video. Skateboarding to me, and I'm sure also as to many other people who started young and isolated, was an education in culture.

58:21So Baker 3, for instance, using The Cramps, Black Sabbath, Morrissey, Bowie, Biggie, Lou Reed, and so on. not that any of those artists are necessarily the most important artists in the world to me but uh to discover them all in one go and in such a way was more than impactful was more than skateboarding it was like suddenly there are things in the world suddenly there is energy uh so that meant a lot to me everything coming out of that camp baker america death wish that all meant a lot to me but if i have to pick one single video which i know that if i was put on now would resonate with me just as it did then if not more so it has to be minefield alien workshop minefield because that video again is beyond tricks uh this is more than skateboarding america this is skateboarding alien workshop minefield this is beyond skateboarding as far as i'm concerned greg hunt is a superb filmmaker and he and the whole team some of whom were just breaking out at that time others it was their last push they did skateboarders all of us as a people as a species they did us proud with that video in my opinion if i didn't skate if my son skated and I didn't skate.

1:00:00My son does skate now. I mean, he's four, but he's skating. He asked me, he says, can we go skating? And I say yes. And I tried to contain my excitement, because I don't want to put pressure on him. But anyway, let's not get sidetracked. If I didn't skate, and my son skated, or daughter, and I walked past them, and they were watching that, I would think they'll be all right. Because it's a great, great piece of art that video it's impressive for sure 100 yeah um favorite style

1:00:37Davis Torgerson:Nartus. Nice. Which skater had the biggest influence on the way you skate? Skaters have influenced me in different ways, to skate in different ways. I learned frontside flips because of Andrew Reynolds. Admittedly, I've somewhat fallen out of touch with that particular trick. But, you know, I learned back threes because of Dill, traveling 360, street 540s, whatever you want to call them. because of Matt Hensley, even though the one that he did, which I always watched, was on a mini ramp. Impossibles and Noseblunts, Ed Templeton, Big Spins, Eric Ellington. I wanted to ollie high because of Reece Forbes.

1:01:19So it's a combination. But technically, the skater who has influenced my skating, the way that I skate the most, is Natas, again, because he invented the Wally. And that's what I do.

1:01:32Davis Torgerson:Love it. um who's the most talented skateboarder on planet earth i'll answer the question as best i can and keep it on the minefield theme and say grant taylor but i don't know him i've never been skating with him in person maybe he really struggles maybe every clip you see of his took hours i don't know but he's uh he's an all-rounder no i don't think so he's trust me he's even better in person. We'd always been fans and then he came to our Buncham a couple years ago and it was insane to watch in person. That doesn't surprise me. That doesn't surprise me. It was something else. So that's a valid answer.

1:02:15Davis Torgerson:Yeah, if you're already a fan watching him skate in person, you'll be even more of a fan somehow. Favorite trick? Nose blunt slide on a bank. Blunt slide on a bank? They don't look so good. Really macking it, digging in, to a nose blunt slide on a bank coming back in when it suits you.

1:02:38Davis Torgerson:It's quite a feeling. Damn. Never done one. Now you're making me. I got to figure one out this summer. We got to find a nice little mellow one somewhere. You done one of those before? Nose side pop in? No. Or nose blunt? No. That's my... I've done a nose blunt stall on a mini ramp but never slide. I would say that's harder. Yeah, maybe just... Yeah. No, maybe like bank stairs bank, but no straight bank. What's the hardest trick for you? The hardest trick for me is switch. Everything switch. I never saw the point of it. I still don't. Some people in my youth tried to make me see the point of it, and I think that made it worse.

1:03:26One person in particular, I remember when I did a Wally backside nose blunt slide up the bank and down the cheese at South Bank. This person that I knew, he thought it was wrong because I couldn't ollie into that. And because I wasn't ollieing into back nose blunt slides on ledges on flat at that time. And he was obsessed with switch. And he thought you should learn a trick, then learn it switch, then learn a trick, then learn it switch. And I just, maybe that put me off. I don't know. Switch turnaround, switch 180, switch nose blunt to forward. You know, I get that. But the rest, I don't know.

1:04:07I've always had a good enough time going forward. Fair enough.

1:04:12Davis Torgerson:What's the most illegal trick? What is the most illegal trick? The most illegal trick is the opposite. It's the most legalized trick, back tails. Backtails are seemingly mandatory. It's all anyone ever does, every second of every day. You're never more than a meter away from a backtail. The backtail is officially being good at skating. And as I think we've established, that isn't something that I'm necessarily interested in. Yalta, of course, can do what he likes. Yalta lives above the law. I just feel like I've seen enough like tells in my life I need to see you do one now yeah we need one for this interview please we'll slide it in there this is regret number 64 of coming on your podcast

1:05:14what's the favorite clip you've ever gotten my favorite clip I've ever gotten has to be the bean plant at Royal Oak. It was my last trick and my last part. But was it my last part? I don't know. I'm not sure. But it was... What I do know is this. When you film a part, or when you're young and you skate all the time and you don't do anything else and people are around with cameras, I'm not saying I didn't try, because I did, but parts just occur. They just happen. but when you're a bit older and you're laden with responsibilities it's very very different and and for me filming that part was so important to me it was uh you know it was so important to me that I showed myself that I could still film a part that I could actually film a better part than I'd ever filmed.

1:06:17And I had the highest standards and I was at my least practiced. And logistically, it was very difficult because the filmer, Cyrus Gahan, has a similarly chronic disposition to my own in that he habitually bites off more than he can chew. That we were even able to meet up and film that many times is nothing short of a miracle, really. uh you know he to put things in perspective he was editing it on the plane on the way to the japanese premiere of his polar video because i insisted i wanted to put it out on my 27th birthday so you know it was a it was a lot of pressure uh we actually did very well i have to say almost every time we went out we got something done but there would be months in between sometimes many months but not only did we not go out skating together i just didn't skate at all because i wasn't skating i was just thinking of the hardest trick that i could think of and going and doing that and skating became synonymous in my head with cyrus's schedule became a production uh so that part meant a great deal to me and and closing it that way uh was a huge pressure for me that trick started as a joke.

1:07:41And like all jokes, it became very serious. And like many jokes. And so I tried it kind of just mucking about. And then we went back. And I only had about 20 minutes. So I could only really warm up and then it was time to go. And then we went back a third time. And the batteries just, just suddenly stopped working. And then we went back a fourth time and it was raining or it was really slippery you know it we went back several times and it became uh not only was i was it it was a hard trick for me to do but it became a personal everest in my head and if you have ever been there there's all the train tracks just to the left of you it's it's definitely loud it's it's not a very pleasant place to be on top of that You're thinking, this is a skate park.

1:08:34This is a bean plant in a skate park. Why is this even hard for me? You're beating yourself up over it. Of course, it's not really a skate park. If it were really that easy to skate that, many more people would have done tricks on it. And I was just up there, and it was a couple of days before my 27th birthday when I really wanted the park to come out. It was a matter of hours before Cyrus had to leave for several weeks. and it was my seventh time standing up there or something. I'd landed on it maybe 30 or 40 times, and it had gotten away from me. And I was at that point, that place where skateboarding can take you, and I was just telling myself, if you don't land this, you are a disappointment to yourself.

1:09:28Your children won't be able to look at you. So, you know, it gets like that, you know, at the apex, at the culmination of putting that kind of pressure on yourself. And so to do that, to roll away, that was a euphoric. It was more than a relief. In my head, it was closing a chapter of my life on my terms because I always had this thing with the number three. I've been in countless shared parts or web videos, but I'd had two full parts, and I wanted to have a third full part for me to be content myself with my so -called career and allow myself to have fun or even to quit.

1:10:18And ultimately what's happened is I've decided to go with the former. That's where I'm at now. I'm having fun skating. And that's because I had the opposite for some time. I feel everyone has their own standards and expectations. For me, I needed to film three parts. That part needed to be on the other side of adulthood, for want of a better term, for me to feel comfortable and say, you know, I've done this. the best of my ability as a skateboarder. And now I can enjoy myself. But, you know, as I said, once you start enjoying yourself, you realize that you're learning tricks again. I feel it creeping up on me, the desire to film another part or, you know, I'm skating so much more now I'm retired.

1:11:11Davis Torgerson:You know, that's how it goes. All right. Worst trend you've been a part of?

1:11:20Selling t-shirts with drugs on them. To children. That's a great answer. It wasn't me directly selling them. It was in the pictures. I was probably too busy making art out of porn. But I think that is, I'm really not for that.

1:11:44Davis Torgerson:Yeah, no explanation needed. What's the gnarliest trick you've ever witnessed? the gnarliest trick I've ever witnessed is undoubtedly the Gabbers reach out and touch Thames gap to crook on the handrail in Peckham. Uh, we were all out that day, the whole Thames crew and our photographer, Ollie was out with us as well. Ollie, Ludwig and Kai all came up to me and said to me, independently of each other, within the space of about 30 minutes, that they'd never actually seen someone skate a handrail before in real life. Because they're not as much of a thing here. They're just not. We have blind bumps at the top of the stairs.

1:12:33They're high. They're just not really part of our landscape in the same way. It wasn't surprising to me that they'd never been on a handrail session. and they all thought it would be fun to watch Gabbers do this. And I thought it would be fun as well, but it was actually terrible because my heart was in my throat for him. He landed on several and they slipped away from him. And it's not like a bean plant over that gap. You can't do that again and again and again. And I really genuinely believed him at one point when he said he didn't want to do it anymore. And I'm there, his new sponsor, kind of forcing him to do it, kind of telling him you have to do it, telling someone to do something that I would never do myself.

1:13:26It isn't the way I escape. And when he did it, when he landed it and rolled away, I was just so glad to be there. I was so glad that we were all there with him for that. It felt like I had landed it. It felt like I was rolling away in that moment. Again, euphoria. I was so proud of him. I was so pleased to be his new reason to do such a thing. And I said earlier that Gabba's marked the start of this new skate-focused era of Thames. But to be more specific, it was that trick. That trick was the clapperboard of this new scene.

1:14:17Davis Torgerson:That was awesome. Awesome photo, awesome everything. It's always fun to be in those celebratory moments. Alex Perez was very happy that we printed it upside down. I wondered how we'd feel about it because I just, you know, like the board is England here, Australia here. I just wanted people to turn it around. Also, it just kind of worked better for the layout, the text I wanted to put on it. And it was one of those moments where I wondered if either Gabbers or Alex would go, oh, you know, in that way that I was saying earlier, I might have been with Lev. Oh, I did. I just jumped down. I just gapped to, not that I ever did a gap to croak on a 18-stair rail or however many stairs it may be.

1:14:59But I wondered if he might think, oh, and you've just gone and printed that upside down. Of course, all you really need to do is turn it around or turn your phone. But they were thrilled. They knew that they were capturing a significant moment. Again, more than just a trick.

1:15:14Davis Torgerson:Epic. Absolutely epic. And yeah, that'll be a funny thing to balance going forward, how you felt with Palace back in the day versus trying to give some leeway to your riders going forward with their own creativity. Oh, definitely. As a parent and as a business owner, you are constantly informed by your own youth. even if it's negative even if you're remembering what you didn't like and doing it differently i'm constantly drawing upon my experience when i was uh playing a different part in in any scenario when i was a son and not a dad when i was a team mate and not a team manager i'm always thinking of that it's very important that's good for sure um what's the one trick that got away You know, I'm very determined when I decide that I want to do something.

1:16:10It's one of my blessings slash curses. Another one of those is my ability to completely erase from my memory anything negative. So I don't know the answer to that question. I'm sure there is one. I'm sure there are several. if he was asked Cyrus, I'm sure he'd tell you there are several or Brooks or Austin or there must be, there must be many.

1:16:44Davis Torgerson:Okay. Um, what's the biggest bunt you've ever witnessed? And let me know if you need a explanation on the term. Well, I'll tell you what I think it means and you correct me. It's when someone says, if necessary, it's when someone says they, it's when someone claims a trick that is not going to happen. Right. basically yeah yeah but and sometimes they even have to like try the trick they know that they're not gonna do like when we were young we would yeah be like he's claiming it is one thing but bunting it is actually trying it knowing you're not gonna do it just to say you tried it like at one time i tried to tre flip down a big four knowing i wasn't gonna do that well you're definitely not going to do it with that energy.

1:17:36I have a good friend. He's a Guildford skateboarding legend, Mark Jackson. His lifelong motto is, there's nothing I can't mayday. Do you call it mayday? A pivot fakie. And I'm not sure if this technically constitutes a bunt. But the fact is, that's not entirely true. There was a steep brick quarter pipe. I think it was a brick quarter pipe in Portsmouth or Southampton. The details don't matter. He couldn't mayday it. He tried it and he couldn't do it. But Colin Kennedy had a photo doing it. Now, actually, there's layers to this story because there is some confusion as to whether or not Colin Kennedy himself did it.

1:18:34And Mayday is an easy trick to pose. But there was a great picture and it was printed in Skateboarder magazine. And Mark Jackson used to work in the Slam shop on Neil's Yard. And another guy worked there called Rob Matheson, who was a prankster, probably still is. And Jackson, I don't know why he worked in that shop, really, because he's a very easily irritable person. And he would become irritated with the constant flow of tourists coming in, Italians coming in asking for genoscis, red genoscis in size six. and he would habitually sit on the bench behind the counter, look up to the sky and huff.

1:19:25And what Rob did was he tore the picture of the Mayday out of Skateboarder magazine and taped it to the ceiling directly underneath Jackson's spot. So one day, sure enough, someone came in asking for some weed socks at the time, I suppose. and Jackson did his sitting down, huffing, puffing at the ceiling thing, and of course saw that picture. Funnily enough, Rob is – I'm going to give you a double-barreled answer here because Rob has possibly himself the biggest bunt of all time. Backside nose blunt slide up the cheese into the bank. Up the cheese into the bank, not Wally backside nose blunt slide down it like I did.

1:20:14like I mentioned earlier, but going up the cheese into the bank. Excellent picture, should never, in my opinion, have even been developed, let alone printed until he was four wheels down rolling away. And that picture was printed in Sidewalk magazine. And it was a Sam Ashley picture. And it's just baffling to me. Sam is someone who's has a very old school mentality. he insists that pictures must precede footage. And yet on this occasion, he was happy to run a picture of such an epic bunt. And it ultimately was a bunt because he didn't do it. He never did it. Without, as I say, without him ever doing it, without there being any footage.

1:21:06So there's your double-barreled answer. So there's a double bowed slam city skates edition answer.

1:21:13Davis Torgerson:Our boy KGZ, Karan Gale, Nollie back, Nosemont, Fakie, back tail kickflip in. Did he also do the regular back Nosemont? I don't know, but I'm glad you brought that up. I feel like he's done the best tricks I've seen. I was just about to acknowledge that, that Karan did do it or some variant of it. It has been done. But for a very, very long time, a million people claimed it. And for Rob to have had that picture, run that picture, maybe it wasn't his fault. Maybe the fault lies with Sam. Maybe it was always a stitch up on Rob. As I said, he is a prankster. You know, it was perhaps a bit of his own medicine.

1:21:51But no, Koran, you have to take your hat off to Koran. You have to. Incredible. So sick.

1:22:00Davis Torgerson:Dude, and Nolly heel back nose blunt up it, not into the bank, but that just seems like not possible. Nolly heel back nose blunt up it? Who did that? He did as well. Not into the bank because you could move it, right? Oh, no, there's two cheeses. There are two cheeses. But if he did the one that's on flat, then that's quite high to certainly to nollie back heel into. I haven't seen that. Yeah, he did. Yeah, it's in. Yeah, he did that. Can I change my answer from when you asked me what's the best feeling trick? It's actually back nose blunts on ledges, not front nose blunts on banks. I've changed my mind.

1:22:37Okay, we'll take them both. We'll take them both.

1:22:40Davis Torgerson:Yeah, for sure. Absolutely. What's the last new trick you learned? Nollie front foot impossible on a beamer. Oh, well. Yeah. I took a beamer out the other day because I was skating in Paris. I was trying blunt slides on this bank. I was going far. My wheels were so flat spotted. And I just, I didn't have a tool. I'm not that back into skating that I have a tool. if having a tool is here I'm here, not a filmer we'll get you a tool maybe we'll send you a tool who has a tool but my wheels were totally flat spotted and the only board I had I wanted to skate, I'd arranged to skate and then I realised that the only other board I had was in fact it's right here I'm literally looking at it this is Mark's board and it's a big boy it's so big that he couldn't bring it back with him uh on a visit a few years ago and he left it with me i said do you want me to post it to you he said no don't worry just hang on to it so it's just been there gathering dust in my hall for a long time but i took it out the other day and i found that i was doing tricks that i wouldn't normally do on it smiths you can't not Smith on this board.

1:24:03You cannot not Smith on this board. And Nolly Frontfoot Impossibles, that's what was happening. I don't know why. I don't know what precipitated that. Jared and, if I remember correctly, Jared and Gabbers were playing skate, and I was just thinking of lethal blows.

1:24:23Davis Torgerson:That's a guaranteed letter. What's your dream job after skating? I like things as they are now. I like

1:24:34being a filmmaker being a designer i was being a podcaster i enjoyed that when i did that briefly is that your full is this your full job jobs no working on it i guess is it fun not this one obviously i know the answer to that one but in general in general is it fun yeah it's the best working with safer yeah it is it's a blast Love it. We've got a lot of great people along the way who we're friends with now. So it's been great. Gabbers is one of them. It seems like you're going about it the right way. No one has had anything but good things to say. They said, well, they had some specific things to say.

1:25:18A few people who I told I was doing this, they said they're very nice people who get people to be very nasty. And that is a talent.

1:25:28Davis Torgerson:as you can tell we're almost at that as you can tell i don't need much prompting i don't need much encouragement um favorite local brand local i have nothing sadly i wish i did dancer yalta's brand i don't know very much about that beyond the name and the squiggly man but i like that i like them speaking of yalta hard body i'm very glad that that's happening now again i really like the name and the graphics i've seen heroin skateboards was the local brand when i grew up and it's funny because now that's american really it's super american and i saw some of their boards recently i saw someone skating a board saw a heroin board in real life the other day in Manchester, which Foz would have been very, especially pleased about, I'm sure.

1:26:31And I was on a call with Justin at BBS, the board manufacturer in Mexico. And he told me that heroin boards are selling like no other boards right now, those big egg shapes they make. Wow. And I'm very happy for them about that.

1:26:52Davis Torgerson:Showing some love. Favorite local skater. There was a guy, still is a guy, though I'm not sure if he skates at all anymore, Robin Lambert. And he was so good. So, so good. He would skate south. He would blunt back three on the bank to block, to fakie. That same bank to block, the nose blunt. Bank to Blunt, that's the third time this is coming up in this conversation. I'm obsessed. He'll mack it around the corner, pocket, do blunt slides, blunt slide nose blunt, front board up the cheese, Nolly 270, launch out of it. He would Nolly laser flip the seven on a fishtail board, on a 10-inch board. In fact, he wouldn't Nolly laser flip the seven.

1:27:46He would land on a nonly laser flip down seven stairs in one try and then not try again. That was his spirit. Ludwig, in a way, Ludwig's the only other person I've seen skate in that way. When Ludwig first came to London for our first Thames trip, he did a slappy grind on this curb in Grosvenor Square. And then he backside 360 kickflip down the stairs. And then he started trying to front foot impossible the stairs. And again, he tried one, very nearly did it, and then just didn't try again. Such a unique selection of tricks, such a natural ability. And also, this is more the case for Robin than Ludwig.

1:28:26I know he has his kind of qualms, if that's the right word about it. Two, he'll never be filmed. I mean, he wasn't against it, but he was just skating. if you saw him he was doing what he did in his own time and his own time incidentally was about 8 in the morning same as me so I'd be there in my school uniform and he'd be there doing huge you know sliding 7 or 8 feet in blunt slide bean planting back in fast planting and if he caught it he was just lucky to catch it he was getting bored from death for a while but He was certainly never plucked from obscurity, nor did he seem to want to be, but he was a local hero.

1:29:18He would have been welcome in my demo any day. Hell yeah.

1:29:25Davis Torgerson:Love that. What's the one sponsor you regret writing for? I have no regrets because I believe, I'm very thankful for the present moment, And I believe that if you're thankful for the moment that you're in, you must also be thankful for all the wonderful, horrible moments that preceded it. So negative to that question. Who's your favorite teammate ever? It has to be Lucian. It has to be Lucian. He's an enigma. He's an absolute enigma. I mentioned earlier that I'm able to completely erase negativity from my memory. I don't think of it. More than that, I genuinely forget that it's happened. Lucian goes one step further and refuses to register it in the first place.

1:30:19Someone says something that he doesn't like. If anything bad happens to him, if he's ever done anything bad, he just does not register it. And I'm very envious of that, in a way. He's a fascinating person to watch. an incredibly loyal person, a great skateboarder, of course, but just hilarious to be around. Every night is a different story, every single night. Damn. Even recently, someone told me a couple of days ago, this is someone else's story, it's not mine. I wasn't there for this, but I'll tell it anyway. It was at Benny's house, Benny Fairfax, and he lived with a girl called Shelly, really nice girl, and she had made some soup.

1:31:07And this is the day after the night before. So, of course, Lucian's still going. This is in the afternoon, though. And he spilt the soup or Shelly spilt the soup. Someone spilt the soup and there's soup all over the floor. And Shelly says, oh, don't worry about that, Lucian. I'll get that. I'll clean that up. And he says, no, no, it's fine. Don't worry. and she says no really it's absolutely fine he says no i insist and then he's like looking around looking around the room walks over to a bookshelf big bookcase and he takes two books off the shelf one of them's cape moss by mario justino one of them is i don't know some expensive risoli book and he goes and puts them on the floor and starts shimmying them into each other to create some kind of channel for no apparent reason whatsoever, some kind of tributary of chicken soup.

1:32:07And it was very well-intentioned, but of course completely pointless, almost performance art in its pointlessness. A modern Moses.

1:32:20Davis Torgerson:That's something else. we had the pleasure of kicking it with him in London a few years back have you had him on here? no we've tried you've reached out and he declined? no we've spoke he's a hard guy to lock down I guess I think it was like last year he called me at like 1 in the morning and he was in Japan or something he missed his flights very regularly sometimes several flights a day. And I don't mean connections. Sometimes three flights in a day. He's the epitome of this Peter Pan, endless youth skateboarder. He's making the absolute most of what skateboarding can do for you. And he's, of course, an excellent skateboarder.

1:33:08And he deserves everything. He's who I thought of when you asked earlier, he's the most talented skateboarder. Him and Rory, both, they seem to be able to just, if they can think of it, they can do it. It's incredible.

1:33:21Davis Torgerson:All right, that's favorite teammate. Now, who's your worst teammate ever? Brady. Has to be Brady. Oh, shit. That's the boss, dude. Well, see, and therein lies the qualm. He was not only my teammate, but he was my team manager. And it's understood that when you become a team manager, you're kind of bringing your own career to a close and making way for other people. and that was not so with Brady. Brady is like me. In fact, I'm not sure if I was influenced by him or if we just happened to be alike. When we go on a trip, we need to get a clip every day. If we don't, we need to get two clips the next day.

1:34:01Maybe three is a punishment. That's his quota. That's where he has to hit. And when we went on those many, many trips and he was TM-ing, we would often go so out of our way, out of the way of, there may be, if you was to look on a map, there would be a high concentration of spots that everyone else on the team wanted to skate, and there'd be something 50 minutes away, which Brady wanted to skate. And he wanted to do – it was a quota thing. He wanted to find something to tail slide flip, the blunt slide flip, the backside 180 nose grind. You know, he's an excellent skateboarder, and I respect him.

1:34:41But the things that he was casting aside, what he was casting aside for was just his own personal neuroses. And so in that respect, he was a selfish team manager at that time. I've heard he's much better now. I've heard he's much, much better now. But there are clips. There's a clip in the merchandise where there's a huge iron girder and he's nose sliding it into a huge steep bank under a bridge. It's a hammer. it's technically inarguably a hammer and he rides away from that and I'm there in the background and so is Charlie Young and Olly Todd and we're just accepting it, we're clapping politely, we're registering it because because we're 50 minutes away under a bridge, we're 50 minutes away from everything that everyone else wanted to skate in Miami or Hawaii or somewhere.

1:35:46And that was not an isolated incident. So for that reason, Brady's my worst teammate of all time. But having said that, I love him, and I genuinely hope that he doesn't mind me saying that. And there's some respect in that for the same reason, the same thing which was fucking annoying to me, someone trying to skate, is the same thing which I have to respect.

1:36:12Davis Torgerson:I have to take my hat off to him. Damn, I've never heard it put so bluntly when you're a skater and a TM. You're closing that one door. There's a few people that try and wear both hats. That's me now. That's me now. I should have said to Gabbers and Jared and everyone, the good news is we're taking skating seriously. The bad news is it starts with me. I'm taking skating seriously too because now that's me. Now we're going to some Victorian red brick bank for months. Four hours in a taxi away from the actual hammer that Gabbers is actually going to do. Worst company. That's too easy. Edgelord. It has to be Edgelord.

1:37:06Edgelord is... What is Edgelord? I mean, really. It's a prank. But I'm not sure the skaters are even in on. I'm not sure anyone is in on it besides Harmony Karine himself. I don't know the guy. But what is it? Who's there for the right reasons? And, you know, I thought that I had it bad not being able to pick the version of the trick or even see it going into a video. At least I didn't get turned into a fucking alien in the middle of the trick. I mean, it's absolutely ridiculous. It's absolutely ridiculous. And, you know, I think a lot of people, I think some people see me as a figurehead of a generation that discarded the rules and traditions of skateboarding.

1:37:58And I don't think that's right. I can see why people think that, but I don't think that's right. And I'll tell you one thing that I know. I would never let someone who doesn't skate direct my skateboarding. it's just bizarre to me.

1:38:16Davis Torgerson:Fair. Fucking, we just reacted that way because we're friends with basically the whole team. I don't care. I don't expect you to. I do not expect you to. I think it's a joke. I'm not up tossing and turning at night. It doesn't keep me up at night. But you've asked me the question and it was a very, easy answer for me. Blondie pulled up with a grenade launcher first try. Well said, man. Well said. Well, this is the point though, isn't it? Fair enough. Fucking chef them up. Sorry they're all your friends. Worst trend.

1:39:01I don't like it when people skate in headphones. I don't really like wearing headphones. I bought these for today. Thank you. Do you agree with me on that front? I hate it. It's my biggest pet peeve. It's really antisocial. Drives me insane. For me, skateboarding is like sitting down to a meal. It's just incredibly bad manners to have your headphones on. And filming in headphones. Although saying that, I'm sure some filmers wish that I'd been wearing headphones when filming with me. but it's the it's the opposite of what skating is to me well Ellington again Ellington like Yalta is allowed to do whatever he wants you know there's always an exception but at least no what about a Kyle Wilson clip with headphones on though he can maybe get a pass he's he's not not for me not for me not my not my cup of tea fair enough

1:40:01Davis Torgerson:another banger alright which skater has the worst style I'm not going to answer that question because honestly if you can't piece together from my other answers who the skaters are that don't do it for me then just don't just carry on living your life there is a limit that's fair okay alright Blondie last but not least who's the last person you want on the sesh

1:40:43again it's an easy one Bill Strowman

1:40:51I find him incredibly disconcerting personally I don't want to see him I don't want to be seen by him I don't want to be seen through his lens. Certainly don't want to be seen through his lens. I suppose I don't really have to worry about that anyway. I think I'm too old for him now. Oh, oh.

1:41:16Why do you... Jesus. Woo! You know? Can we end on a positive? Yeah, absolutely. Do you have a question for us? You didn't... well you didn't ask me who my who my uh what my favorite video part is did i not and i want to end on a did i skip that no my bad i want i want to end on a positive okay that's perfect if he listens to this i want him to know this i want this on the public record even though he'll probably have stopped listening after that because i know he's close with bill but my favorite video part of all time is dill in dvs skate more because the kind of skateboarding which interests me is athletic ability, yes, but it is also creative individual expression.

1:42:07And who is a greater advocate of that alchemy than Jason Dill? He's like a ballerina in that. The fakie pop shove it switch manual, half cab double flip, manual the back three, where he almost comes off but he doesn't. much of this on a curb, much of this under a bridge. Again, you know, it's more than tricks. Skateboarders had shown me that you could skate. He showed me that you could do so in yellow socks with the white cut-off highwaters and the mullet, come what may. And I will be forever grateful to him for that. I think he's probably one, I think maybe people don't want to say that he's one of their favorite skateboarders because he's so outspoken and there is so much more than skateboarding to him.

1:43:04And there are skateboarders who don't care about anything beyond skateboarding. But he is super, super influential on me. And I can see his influence now, not just in FA and hockey and his brands, but individuality is really championed now. But he was, him and Mark Gonzalez pioneered individual expression in skating to that extent. So that's me attempting to end on a positive after this disastrous podcast. Well said, not the disastrous part, well said about Dil.

1:43:39Davis Torgerson:To conclude this one, huge regret of all of us. I'm glad I forgot to ask that one because that's a much nicer way to close this out. And thank you so much.

1:43:55Well, I'm flattered to have been asked on here. I'm honored to have been asked on here. Thank you for having me. Apologies to everyone who I... Eviscerated? His character I assassinated. Apologies to anyone who is just listening. Apologies. thank you this was amazing thank you so much for coming on we we really appreciate it and took up way more of your time than i told you we would so thanks for sticking around and it's been a pleasure thank you thank you

1:44:36all right welcome back to random skater of the week brought to you by mob grip the number one choice of grip tape worldwide. You need grip, head down to your local skate shop and they'll tell you why to pick up Mob because it's the grippiest baby. Random Skater of the Week hosted by our good friend Davis Torgerson and this week in the hot seat. Looks like he's getting a take to everybody's favorite Random Skater of the Week guest, Mitch Barrett, the legend. What's cracking, man? Tom Batch, how you doing? Bro, I'm still surviving from Detroit, man. You guys did me dirty last time. Let's go. You did yourself dirty, dude.

1:45:20Come on, you tried your best, dude. Shiloh. It wasn't fair. It wasn't fair. We're back now. I think an even playing field we got. Mitch, you remember the rules? Yeah, do we have to explain? I guess we should probably say it for people that are watching. Yeah, just a little refresher. Okay. I'm going to be listing off clues for a random skater. One random skater. You get three guesses to identify the skater. You can blurt them out at any time. You can ask questions. Sound good? Yep.

1:45:57Davis Torgerson:Sounds great. We'll take a first and last name, Mitch. We need the name given at birth. Let's do this. First, middle, and last. you never set on the rules you know so last time you didn't get the rules that was the problem shiloh was wrong anyways so yeah if it was right though we might have had to just give it to him yeah yeah okay are we ready let's fucking do it previous teammates of this random skater include ed templeton pat duffy and andrew reynolds oh we talking old dogs kind of legendary Mitch just watched a 4-1-1 before this and he was looking at trans world lineups What 4-1-1 did you watch?

1:46:47I don't even know It was like 13 or something Okay So this skater in a 4-1-1 Oh shit Issue 44 had a check out Damn I think that's the one I watched

1:47:08All right, you say the first name.

1:47:13Keep up. Okay, this next clue should give it away. You guys ready? Let's go. Come on. Does anyone want to guess the clue? No.

1:47:24Davis Torgerson:Reynolds Templeton. Oh, they had a guess board on fucking crooked. That is the clue. This guy had a guess board on crooked. 20-yard. Let's go. It is not Tony Hawk That was a good guess Mitch It's a good guess It's a very fair guess Yes the skater had a crooked guess board Tony Hawk was the guy in the 421 we just watched Alright It wasn't the issue that you watched then Alright This skater had a pro shoe called the Avers

1:48:07what company not quite yet not quite yet too soon too soon avers just wasn't sure if any of you had that shoe or something as a kid you know damn um this next clue isn't really so much of a clue but just like a fun fact that you know i figured you guys might all want to hear about but uh element actually recorded an audio tape of all of the riders asking this skater to join the team, but skater never received the tape, never rode for Element. That's kind of wicked. It's pretty sick. Yeah. Damn, it's tampering. I think this skater was a free agent at the time, though. Okay. So I think it was legal.

1:48:56Yeah. Fuck, Safa's fucking brain is percolating. he's like a robot random skater of the week villain era he used to be like the good guy that won all the time and now he's the bad guy and everyone has to be

1:49:14Davis Torgerson:mean mugging I actually zoned out so hard right there I was thinking about something completely different I missed that clue I just heard something about element tapes for sure quarterback stress kicked in what's next let me This skater earned the top Pro performance at the 2007 Vans downtown showdown Bro what the fuck man Yo Mitch look Fucking left over from Detroit Bullshit that you left in my cooler You bastard Out of all that stuff he took How much did he drink He came back the whole cooler was full I wanted to slap him But I didn't notice till he left and then I opened it. I do a nice thing for him and this is how he pays me back.

1:50:01Davis Torgerson:Dude, like, I don't need 10 NAs and a bunch of fucking bottled water. God damn it. Boo hoo. Alright, so what, 2007? Yeah. Top pro performance. 2007, top performer. Moving on. This skater had a thrasher cover doing a doubles with Lance Mountain. What the fuck That was Tony Hawk dude They had to be a free agent What were the three skaters Reynolds Templeton and who? Duffy Duffy Damn I knew it was on the cover Over who? He was doing a doubles with Lance Mountain Like an under over?

1:51:00Shit, I'm trying to remember the cover. I think he might have been going over. I might be botching this though. We wanted him on element? Alright, we need another one. Yeah, he was going over. He was going over. We need a good one. Okay. This skater had the same exact clip. A line at San Marcos High. As an ender in two different... That's the Cost and Trey Flip noseblunt rail. Oh, okay. There's like two in a row, you know? Yeah, yeah, yeah. He had the exact same clip as an ender in two different company videos that came out around the same time. What the fuck? Danny Way.

1:51:47It's not Danny Way. That would have been nice if it was. Damn, Danny Way's got to run. I'm rooting for you, Dono. He did something on that in the Plan B promo or something, didn't he?

1:52:01Yeah, I think he did skate it. Okay, ready for more? Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah, everyone sounds so excited. All right. This is hard, man.

1:52:16this skater has finished in the top five at Tampa Pro five different times fuck I have some guesses I can't remember the damn

1:52:27Davis Torgerson:names of these fools man street top five Grant Taylor he had him last season I think it is not Grant Taylor I still want to do a skater over though All right, Mitch, you got one guess left. You got one guess left. That's all I need, baby. Yep. It's true. They don't ask. They don't ask anyone. I have a guess that I think actually maybe it is. No, it could fucking be. This is when it's going to get interesting. All right. This skater first technically turned pro for a local brand called Cherry Bombs.

1:53:18local to where great question where the skater where the skater lived local to the skater

1:53:27Davis Torgerson:where is he from let me throw an out for shits and giggles or should I wait for one more clue nah throw it out there man we're all one we got guesses on the board Aaron Suski Susky I already said

1:53:46Not Aaron Susky I hate the suspense It's getting worse season by season How long you wait to answer I'm trying to make sure the video gets More than 10 minutes so we hit that Algorithm you know what I'm saying Yeah yeah yeah Susky Who's had the closest guess so far Me who's had the closest guess Who's in the lead Has anyone said Shiloh yet? Fuck. No, come on. Who's the closest? Who's the closest? I don't know. Who did you guess, Donald? There's a couple that are pretty close. I guess Danny Way. Maybe Danny Way? Maybe? They're all kind of like around the same. Speaking of that turning pro for cherry bombs, that first pro graphic included a drawing of someone puking into a toilet.

1:54:34Sounds awful. Frank Gerwer. Ooh, you think it's local to New England, huh? I don't fucking know, dude. It's not Frank Irwin. I gotta guess more this season. All right, you and Mitch have one guess left. We're working together here. Let's go, baby. Say he's got two guesses left. Okay. Oh, okay. I'm okay if Donald wins. It's all right. Okay. Some conspiring. If Donald wins, I win. Yeah, exactly. These guys are in cahoots. In a 2000 video part, the skater went golfing.

1:55:17I can picture it now.

1:55:20Davis Torgerson:You can picture it now.

1:55:25Davis Torgerson:Damn, I didn't care about golfing at the time, so it probably wouldn't have stood out to me at all.

1:55:32Davis Torgerson:Damn, that's probably a lot of people are guessing it right there. And he's only got one more guess. Fuck it. Should I just spend it and go for the glory? Well, it doesn't look like anyone else is guessing right now. You want another clue? Yeah, yeah, yeah. What? No, no. Yeah, burn your guess. It's all good. I'm of no threat to you anyways, dude. We'll figure out a way to give him another extra guess somehow. Yeah, yeah. This skater co-owned a wheel company. What was it called? I can't give that away. Cherry bombs, dude Cherry bombs, baby What the fuck? It's the golf clue for me God damn Okay This is a safe Inspired clue No This skater appears Oh, do you want me to start over?

1:56:36Fuck Okay That's the clue that's gonna do it This is the clue that's gonna do it for you This skater Is on IMDB And has four listings that are not For a skate video What the fuck is that? Oh shit Don't fucking help It's like a movie database website And Saifa gave a clue about someone whose skate video was on IMDB. Shit, dude. That does nothing. Okay, no, next clue for sure. Yeah, the next one for sure, dude. Oh, yeah, sure. Damn it. Fuck, I wish I didn't fucking guess those other ones. This skater co-owns a skate shop.

1:57:22Co-owns a skate shop?

1:57:29This skater famously had five days to film a part in the end. In the end? Oh, fuck. Rick, Rick, Rick! Yo, I think he won because he has the golf clips. Give it to him. Give it to him. Mitch won. Mitch won. It's a miracle. It's a fucking miracle. Come on, Mitch! It's a Canadian miracle.

1:58:00Dude, I thought it was going to be Stacey Lowry. Didn't he have golf clips one time? Maybe. Yeah, I don't know. Whatever. Mitch B. Damn, it feels good to be safer. Dude, we might have to have you back again. It doesn't happen often. Who's your teammates with Pat Duffy on? Plan B. Momentum Wheels. Momentum was the wheel company. Antisocial is the skate shop. Yeah. The Avers was an S shoe. Andrew Reynolds Birdhouse Ed Templeton was Sheep Shoes whoa Yeah, that was a deep cut. Those are great clues. If I was doing a Canadian, it had to be a little random. I wasn't sure if any of you had heard of Cherry Bombs before.

1:58:42I was like, ooh, this could be a dead giveaway. Dude, it rang a bell. I've heard that before. Is that like Whistler or something? What is that? Yeah, I think it was Whistler-based. I wasn't going to say where it was based. I should have not been with Darren Navarrete at one point.

1:58:56Davis Torgerson:Ooh, Navs. My guess was Stacy Love. That was an awful guess. Because I won, I got to come back, right? no you're banned for life now well fuck there's plenty of room in the cooler dude come on for guests those drinks are for guests come on I don't want my fridge full of drinks for guests just taking up fridge space think about the people yeah always doing it for the people dude Mitch I'm so happy for you man good morning fuck alright well I figured we have three Canadians. It had to be a Canadian. That was great. That was a great set of clues. That was an easy one. Now Davis says you're banned too.

1:59:42This guy says Tony Hawk to spark it. And then doubled down and said, this is Tony Hawk later on. I wanted to pull a music in there, man. It was because you watched those videos before, huh? Oh, yeah. All of them, yeah. Yeah. That starting helps a lot. Great job, Mitch. Thank you. Safe was action time. Okay. All right. Well, Mitch, thanks for coming back on. Davis, thanks for being the Clue Master one again. And we'll see you guys next week on Random Skater. Peace, Mitch. Bye, Mitch. Bye, boo-boo. Bye. You've got mail. Welcome back to the post office. Brought to you by our good friends over at Dickie's Skateboarding.

2:00:29Quality work wear since 1922. From the work site to the streets. Ain't nobody keep you fitted like Dickie's, man. All right, Ghost. We are back. Brand new season of the post office. Let's get it cracking. Who we got up first? All right.

2:00:46Davis Torgerson:Sparking off season 22. We got Sokimi Balls. good one all right hollywood has run out of ideas so they are remaking grind who from skating do you pick for the cast we need the leader the smart dude the ladies man and the batshit wild card p.s i would do mitch leader donald smart guy ants one ladies man and ghost wild card I don't know about that selection but we'll take it where do you think you prefer sliding that works I'm not the smart guy

2:01:40Davis Torgerson:Mitch let's see let's see what you got then man well I don't think I ever watched the movie Grind which one is that one again I have no idea what that is but this is like a basic Yeah, yeah. You know. Pick a team. Pick some... Exactly. Fucking dudes. All right, I'll just do it based off our Detroit trip that we just did. Jesus Christ. Wild card, obviously. Jake. But that could also be Jesse or JP. So just give it to Jake. Smart guy. Was there anyone smart on that trip? Not really. We'll give it to Malto.

2:02:22Davis Torgerson:leader give that to Mitch I would take that back Mitch is a good he was our DD he was our sober leader after like 3pm I handed him the keys every day and what's the other one ladies man who was the ladies man actually I might have to change because I think Jake is seeing someone is there anyone even single on the trip

2:02:55Davis Torgerson:no ladies man no he's no ladies man no ladies man we give it to uh any local homies that pulled up

2:03:09Davis Torgerson:anyways that's that's my answer we had no ladies man fortunately or unfortunately All right. Leader. I'm going Jeff Rally. Very knowledgeable human. Smart dude. Theodore Barrow. You know what I'm saying? Ladies man. This is a tough one. Who's the ladies man? In skating. Roderick Reese. God, no. in his time. Oh, I'll give it to Curran. We'll take Curran. And then batshit wildcard. I'll give it to... Who's that crazy one out there in Skating Man? I'll give it to Big Sexy. The four of them can go on and make a movie. I wish I knew what Grind was, though. This might help a little more. All right. Next up, we've got an email from Dylan.

2:04:19Yo, Bunt Boys, big listener, first time writer. Thank y 'all for getting me through my work days. I've gone through every ep starting season 10 to wrapping up season 21, baby. Big shout out to my boy Nick, aka Big Switch Heels, for putting me on the pod. I've listened to the pod so much that my inner monologue voice is Donovan's voice. quick game of would you rather would you rather be cursed with every set of wheels you get being flat spotted out of the box but the bearings are permanently 10 out of 10 or wheels that are dumb smooth forever but the bearings are always dog shit no matter what you do much love boys thanks again for doing what y 'all do no barn is safe next season on giggity p.s another mike sinclair episode will be tight.

2:05:10I've listened to it twice. It's one of my favorite episodes, even though he still owes me $6 ,000. Peace and prosperity. Dylan.

2:05:23I mean, why do I gotta choose between these two things? Neither of these things are ever going to happen. It's so fucking silly. I can't have shit bearings. So I'll just take the flat spotted wheels, I guess. Damn.

2:05:39Davis Torgerson:Stay in the streets. I thought that was a no-brainer the other way. I can't handle flat spots, man. The noise and just you're going so slow, I feel like. He says the bearings are dog shit. I know. I don't know. Just got to push harder. And then at least you're moving. But the wheels are good. That'd be an interesting pull, I feel like. They're both shit. That's the dumbest question. Fucking hell. Hey, that's the newest list. No disrespect to Dylan. Yeah, no disrespect. No disrespect. All right, thanks, Dylan. Next up, we got an email from John Williams. What's up, Dono and Big Say? With another barn burner season in the books, and after two years of listening, I figured I'd give my first post office entry ever.

2:06:32Davis Torgerson:I've always been a huge NBA fan, but I'm from Memphis and I feel like we are a little underrepresented you know I've noticed y 'all pay no mind to the most beautiful land in the world that is unless jaw pointing finger guns or guns at somebody sorry a couple typos here plus we got two Canadians on our team fool I'm just here to tell y 'all to put some respect on the M baby we coming for your bitch ass thunder next season jihad jihad y 'all figured out b uh nah in all seriousness love the pod love the post office and been a generation uh oh and been a generational rundown this season with those nba and uh what is that chiefs finals so they call people call the nhl chel oh chel finals fuck the Panthers go Oilers baby I don't have a question just wanted to dump some truth on y 'all before next season PS go watch Jaws 24-25 season highlights on the NBA YouTube and you love him I know y 'all not watching that shit but whatever he got one thing right yeah let me ask you a question because he obviously didn't have one

2:08:01is this version of the John Morant Memphis Grizzlies the closest version to winning a championship? The upcoming one? Yeah. I know the answer, but just for my friend here writing in, asking for some respect after they just traded Desmond Bain.

2:08:21Davis Torgerson:Yeah, I don't know. Homies tripping, hometown bias. um ja morant and the grizzlies were one of the most beloved team like what was that four years ago and then i've never seen so much love turn to hate so quick and that's mostly ja's fault but the whole team just got way too cocky way too soon didn't do shit um and now looks like they're going backwards so even draymond tried to be remember uh our canadian homie was on there the fuck's his name Dylan Brooks was on there talking shit to LeBron and then they got they got dusted and then or was it LeBron whatever he was just doing his usual bullshit they got eliminated and then Draymond started yelling like the dynasty starts after you like once you're off the team and then Dylan Brooks got traded now Desmond Bain so So maybe that dynasty talk was a little premature.

2:09:26Jaron Jackson.

2:09:27Davis Torgerson:Well, they re-signed him. Mega deal. Yeah, I know. But he isn't what he was when they were going, when they were blowing up. Yeah, I think it's a long road back for Memphis, man. They got some growing to do. But hey, they got KCP. They got something this summer, I guess. Two-time champions. I don't know what else to tell you. And as for the Oilers versus the Panthers, man, it's crazy. Seeing our boy from Florida, Nick Katz, this weekend, the love of hockey is finally growing in Florida. He mentioned Florida being the NHL back-to-back Stanley Cup champions twice in the span of four days of seeing him.

2:10:11So that's how I know it's on the up and up because I've never heard him muster the word hockey in his life before that. So the Oilers got their work cut out for them too, man. All right. On to our last email of the week. Coming in from Zombie40Cal. What up, Ghosts, Dono, Ants, and even Davis? This is Lee and Xander Brown, a father-son duo holding it down in Mississippi. We're big fans of the bunt. Tune in every week. Y 'all have been a huge part of our skate routine. Love the way you mix skate talk with jokes, basketball, and football. Always look forward to each episode. Lately, we've been talking about the constant debate around shoe brands and skating.

2:10:58Corporate names like Nike SB, New Balance Numeric, and Vans get hate for not being core. But they're also out here building parks, funding events, paying skaters, and putting out solid videos. Meanwhile, core brands like Ours is Yours and Warsaw get a lot of respect for staying true, even if they can't always give back at the same level. So where's the line really drawn? Is it the discontent about the money and size, or is it more about how a brand supports the culture? Can a big brand still be considered corporate if they're putting on for the scene? We'd love to hear your take on it. Shout out to Ride and Dirty Skate Shop, our new local shop, helping keep the scene alive.

2:11:42P.S. While re-listening to past episodes, we caught that breezy one where y 'all first talked out the idea of random skater of the week when talking about ghost skate knowledge. Wild to hear that moment come to life. P.P.S. What's your wildest SOTY prediction for the upcoming year? Woo! Dude, I'm surprised my brain was able to read that many words coming off of Gory Challenge. That was very impressive. Where do you draw the line between corporate and core? I personally don't give a flying fuck. about like the difference you know they're all great we need them all it's like any ecosystem you need the big and the small to survive they each um play a very different role in the skateboard world you know like you want to see your favorite skaters be successful concentrate completely on skating and they need money to be able to survive and travel and these big corporate brands are the ones paying your favorite skaters to do that and the small core brands keeping it raw need support from the skaters they're still doing their thing supporting the smaller level skaters you just need them both to survive is is my thoughts man and uh that's i don't know that's all i gotta say about that i don't think there's a right or wrong in either of them yeah we've been saying this for

2:13:11Davis Torgerson:years um and right now we're fresh off glory challenge like dewalt was a sponsor you know is that you do people not have a problem with that because it's not a it's not a skate brand but it's still a big brand with money to help a core event happen um yeah i actually yeah it's pretty annoying i hate when people just be shitting on companies that are big just because they're big like everyone's always support local support local and we do and we love that but it's funny when there's like a line that a small brand crosses once they're too big for people to like i don't know i've just i'm not gonna name names but i've just seen brands go from big to small and then once they're big people just start hating just because then you start counting people's pockets and shit um yeah we need them all like donald said and uh anyone in the industry like knows it's it's hard times these days so fucking if you can make a living off skating um more power to you however however you're doing that and he's right those big brands are the ones putting on those events massive shout out to vans putting on yet another enormous event for core skateboarding nothing is more core than dime and where they came from the the company started making skate videos for the like just the core skaters in montreal and look at them now so shout out vans as always um wildest sody prediction for this upcoming year it doesn't even have to be wild i feel like you know this is a good time nothing has really been set in stone on what's gonna happen you could be the nostradamus of sody right now who's gonna go on that run i had my pick my dark horse all all year was zion but he he's hurt right now so the sody race has so much to do with health too so um hopefully you can get back and and stack some more clips before the end of the year and honestly i've heard no other rumblings of who's like going oh i think i know it's quiet i think kyle walker is trying to go ham low-key so okay that could be another two-timer right there um my hope is zion but uh yeah i don't know i need to i need to do some more research you know send some texts out see who's fucking stacking i don't have a good answer for you sorry is adam schefter minute he needs to you know hit his sources i'm gonna say louis lopez man i hope he's due i think he's you know the level of a skater of the year so i have hope for louis lopez yeah whatever you're doing if you're trying to win sody just find out when jamie foy is trying to like release his shit and just do the year after that opposite yeah although he already released one of the best parts of the year early in the year yeah which video was that he had a red bull part but it came out like in the new year oh man and his fucking sody video was absolutely insane as well i don't even know if you can count the sody trip video to your next sody push but like that's a good base for him to start that was one of the best ones yet that one and mason's probably my two favorites to date yeah well all right y 'all that's gonna wrap up this week's edition of the post office get your emails voice notes videos skate clips you name it over to the button live at gmail.com and we'll check Come next week.

2:17:12This is the Rundown, the skateboard world source for sports, brought to you by NFL Canada. Make sure to draft your NFL fantasy team before it's 2-8. And this is your final warning. It's Wednesday and the season starts tomorrow. Do not miss your chance to get yourself a Jameer Gibbs. ain't nobody you're drafting on the stealer so don't worry about them bro

2:17:35Davis Torgerson:oh how dare you and by the way that was absolute music to my ears i think we ended last season saying we need a damn sponsor for the rundown and you know i'm saying we just had to pull up correct you dig dreams come true in studio we potentially the most prestigious shield of all time right here oh baby isn't that beautiful it's the nfl and we are back and we're talking fantasy obviously you know every year we go through and give you the same vanilla top five this top five that you know but you know heading into potentially uh year 10 which we're approaching next year we're a little more sophisticated when it comes to fantasy talk now the knowledge has grown right safer so this year we are ranking one player outside the consensus ranking top 10 in each playing position that could potentially be a top five and change your fantasy season we're starting with the quarterbacks who outside the fantasy pros top 10 draft rankings could find themselves in the top five and change your season you know where i'm going with it bro i know where you're going you know where I'm going with it.

2:18:54Davis Torgerson:Twin cities. It's someone that you've been predicting was going to be great for all these years and they've continued to suck. Oh, wait a minute. I thought it was someone else. Every year. Him too. But this particular player has let down the fantasy community time and time again. But what I kept saying at our draft this year was I'm drafting coaches. We're talking Liam Cohen. You get me? Did you see Baker have a career year last season? You know where I'm going with this. It's the prince that was promised, Trevor Lawrence. Let's go, man. We talking top five fantasy. That's crazy. Honestly, I don't even know if that's possible.

2:19:37I don't know what T-Law's ceiling is because all we've seen is the basement. So I hope good for you. But, oh, man, he needs to get it sorted out. So just for record, the top five quarterbacks are Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Jaden Daniels, Jalen Hurts, and Joe Burrow. That's a hard top five to crack. Extremely hard. You know, if you're drafting coaches, I could go with Caleb Williams. That'd be a nice pick. He's got a great coach now. Forget his name. But he did great things in Detroit. Could go J.J. McCarthy. Ben Johnson. You know, he's got Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison. But there's only one answer for this, man.

2:20:28And it's right here in Motown. It's Jared Goff, baby. Finished as the fifth best quarterback last year. And why can't he do it again? Everyone expects Amon Ross St. Brown to be a wide receiver one. Laporta's going to be a tight end one. Jameer Gibbs, they're hoping for a big jump out of him. And who's running the show? And who's got the ball in his hands?

2:20:48Davis Torgerson:jared goff that's a lock wow i don't know why you're so stubborn with mr goff uh what is there to be stubborn dude hey we're not talking last year you said super bowl last year you picked him for mvp and now he was close yeah yeah he was close was that even was he actually top five last year i don't even finish the fifth best quarterback in fantasy really in six point per passing touchdowns i don't know what it was i just searched it up on on yahoo and he was fifth i got the answer i wanted so i stopped looking all right here we go last year's total and six point passing touchdowns lamar jackson at one with 512 points joe burrow at two with 458 yo lamar was a stud baker mayfield aka this year's Trevor Lawrence at three with 447.

2:21:42Davis Torgerson:Josh Allen, no surprise, 435. And the fifth best quarterback last year, Mr. Jaden Daniels. Now that's 6.3. With 405. We'll find this. I'll find this. I'll find the staff for you later. But Mr. Goff was number six, which is my man Darnold, number seven, baby. Okay. So you got Trevor Warrens. I got Jared Goff. That's a poll. You don't know what time it is. That's a poll. All right. Next up, running back. Top five running backs. B. John Robinson, Saquon Barkley, Jameer Gibbs, Derrick Henry, and Ashton Jonti. Is that how you say his name? Jente. Yeah, Ashton Jente. All right. Who's it going to be outside the top 10?

2:22:32cracking that top five um dude the biggest question mark of all time cmc i'm not touching

2:22:42Davis Torgerson:them this year uh but you know who i'm saying and we're going strictly off of workload you know the cincinnati bangles love to overload that running back one bell cow you know i'm saying They send Zach Moss packing Chase Brown, Canada, doing it for Canada. He might not be the most efficient, the quickest, or any of that shit, but the workload we know means everything in fantasy, and he's going to have his plate full every week, and we're going to check him in week eight, I think, or seven. We're going to be down there. I might have this jersey on and get beat up in the stands. You ain't getting in the building with that thing.

2:23:26Chase Brown, man.

2:23:27Davis Torgerson:Chase Brown, top five RB this season. I have a question for you. What's up with the Brees Hall rankings? It's all the coach talk, man. You go from a guaranteed top three, showed flashes of greatness, and now you're coming in ranked 18th. Yeah. I'm scared of him, too. It's just the coaches. I think one of the coaches or their head coach came from the Lions as well. And, you know, they love the two back system over there. So I don't think they're doing the bell cow approach anymore. And Braylon Allen was pretty good last year. He's bigger. And I feel like they would use him as the goal line back.

2:24:10Davis Torgerson:So if I mean, other than Jameer Gibbs, how often do you see someone be like a top five running back when they don't even have the goal line job? It's tough. It's like, of course, Kamara has done it and Gibbs has done it. easy answer here omari and hampton you know young flashy rookie stepping into a great spot but i ain't looking for the easy answer we're going with james cook baby certified whoa you know what i mean it's a buffalo bill they win in games they're gonna be up early probably the super bowl favorites and they're gonna look to james cook to close out lots of games because We need to get some goal line touches if Josh Allen doesn't steal them all.

2:24:54It's James Cook.

2:24:56Davis Torgerson:The 13th ranked. I got two words for you. No, I got three words for you. One, regression. And that's TD regression. He had 18 last year. I don't think he's duplicating that. And two, Ray Davis. He's coming, baby. James Cook, your time was last year. I'm happy you got your contract. But top five RB, no chance. They don't pay an RB that type of money to leave him on the bench, kid. This is the year they push him over the edge. This is the Todd Gurley year. He might never come back from this year. He's going to get so much workload. All right. Moving over to wide receivers. The top five, and it's obvious, Jamar Chase, Justin Jefferson, CeeDee Lamb, Nico Collins, and Brian Thomas Jr.

2:25:48Who's cracking that?

2:25:50Davis Torgerson:who's cracking that um before we get to that i would just like to uh let the people know there that in our main league uh the money league yeah d jones may have jamar chase number one on that list as of now you know i'm saying we'll see at the end of the year what that list looks like but my three receivers in a three receiver league we're talking justin jefferson we're talking nico Collins and we're talking my keeper my little lamb yeah it's cd lamb potentially the greatest trio ever seen in that league uh well i got nico i got brian thomas jr too i got one and five yeah that's heavy that's heavy but who's your quarterbacks you're desperate trevor warrens play you're trying to convince yourself here on the pod now that you know he's gonna take you to the promised land that ain't gonna cut it buddy who's your third receiver christian kirk she keenan smith about to take over aj brown's job yeah yeah all right let's hear who's your wide receiver all right i'm gonna go with something a little unconventional you know i'm saying as I try and pick this right now off the top of my head.

2:27:09Davis Torgerson:We're going with Ants makes fun of me because he says I draft too many rookies and sometimes it pays off, but it often bites you in the ass. All the rookie hype in the offseason. But this guy's going somewhere where their team was known to be dog shit for the last few years, but they actually had a surprisingly good closeout to the year. he's coming in as probably wide receiver one probably the best wide receiver in this draft class you know i'm saying i'm going with the man who's getting all the targets now that adam thielen's gone it's ted aroa mcmillan aka tmack baby what a joke bro get this guy off the screen we're talking about one of the deepest positions in fantasy football man you could go down to the 20 he's he'd have a hard time cracking the top 10 let alone the top five we need an elite talent with an match with an elite quarterback man yeah outside quarterback then who's the quarterback there bryce young man yeah bro let's wait for these targets blood but we're gonna have to replay this when the season's over that oh i hope i'm i hope i'm right about this but like dude Dude, we're going to see.

2:28:27Okay, it's insane. This like, how are you even like, dude, the fall off is crazy after 10. No, it's not, bro. You got Tyreek Hill who can launch back up there easily. We're talking McLaurin, who he's on reasons match with the top four quarterback. And now he's the wide receiver one. Like, how do you not go with him? How do you not go with the way Courtland Sutton finished the season last year with Bo Nix? you're throwing portland sudden at me oh that's that might be my pick but i'm not straying far

2:29:04Davis Torgerson:from the top 10 it's lad mcconn soft number so soft this guy goes like 11 like it's gotta be literally 11 on this list you're so soft he's gotta jump six spots but i think he can do it him and justin herbert match made in heaven y 'all know what it is uh the chargers i'm gonna be cheering for them. I got two more drafts. I'm hoping to get Ladd in one of them. Which brother is that coach again? Which Harbaugh? But which one? Jim or John? Whichever one he is, he's a run first type of dude, man. So good luck getting in the top five when they're just looking to hand the ball off. Bryce Young, that team might get sent to the CFL by the end of this year.

2:29:52Tight ends. Wrap it up.

2:29:54Davis Torgerson:Tedder O'Meillin will finish higher than Ladd McConkie in the wide receiver rankings this season. Okay, let's make a bet right now. How much you want to bet? That's not even good. We have to think about something. We have to have plenty of bets. We got to... An on-screen punishment for the people. Okay, let's come up with it at the end. I'm about to blow everyone's mind with my tight end I know exactly what you're doing What the hell

2:30:31Davis Torgerson:That's twisted dude

2:30:37Davis Torgerson:I hate Jesse Alba He's corrupted my brain for life Okay Dude First question Talking about these tight ends interesting name for a position in football um travis kelsey currently ranked seven he finished higher or lower than seven coming off the engagement news obviously not concentrating going into the season um you're saying he finishes higher than seven i think he's going to be a top three tight end this season i say that maybe four maybe four maybe four i bet the hill has arrived and kelsey is not climbing that thing ever again man his his brain is gone he's the private jet type of man he ain't grinding it he's uh it's over for him man last year was sad to watch and it's only going to get worse.

2:31:39Davis Torgerson:It was, but insider information from our dear friend Sean Malto who bumped into him this offseason said he moved back to Florida to get back into his intense training regiment. He's lost a ton of weight. You know what I'm saying? Father time's undefeated, but I think he actually was ashamed of last year and the year before. I don't think he's going to have one of his best seasons, but he's going to finish way like his stats will be way better than last season i promise you that and i think he's going that's not saying much no dude he still had like just under a thousand yards he was one of my tight ends i don't know the exact numbers but it was fucking pitiful waste of a draft pick in fantasy and uh i don't like beating up on real athletes due to fantasy but it's over for him and uh the whole debate about the greatest tight end of all time is uh it's not close still no i'm still kelsey all day every day you didn't witness but i hate when someone has a bad year at the end of their career and then you just remember that like that's not that's not a front line that's how it goes and he's gonna remind everyone this year they might win the whole damn thing and he's sailing off into the sunset you dig all right blow everyone's mind all right once again i'm drafting coaches here all right you might start a little slow we'll see but i'm going with mr ben johnson from the detroit lions sam laporta came into the league not much hype you know i'm saying i don't even think i knew his name i might have heard him on a pod once or twice and uh our friend simon disher drafted him in like the 15th round the next thing you know he was like tight end he was i think he was tight end two or three or four i'd have to check that but he was incredible and that was coming in as i forget what round he was drafted let's just say four or five three four five whatever um wasn't a crazy amount of fanfare.

2:33:49Davis Torgerson:But this year, we're talking Ben Johnson, who was the OC at the time, now the head coach in the draft room. His first pick as head coach with the front office, Colston Loveland, at pick number 10, I believe. So if you think the guy who turned Sam Laporta into a star overnight is going to take someone in round one, put his name on that draft pick, and just let him be a scrub you got another thing coming lovely let's do it baby that's a great pick i like that pick i'm with you there but this guy was supposed to take that step last year it didn't happen you tried to trade him to literally every person in the world but dalton kincaid's time is now he will be Josh Allen's favorite receiver and he will make a difference.

2:34:47Right now, ranked 13th. I think it's going to be hard to crack the top three, but the four or five spots where they currently have Laporta and Mark Andrews are wide open and it doesn't hurt to take a flyer on Dalton Kincaid. Supposed to be a great talent last year. Hopefully, he gets it done this year.

2:35:11Davis Torgerson:not bad i mean you know when you have someone and they just blow it for you and you're so over them that's like that's what happened with me so i didn't even i see that name on a draft board and i just skip right next to the next one man that's how it takes for me you scrub yeah but now for some reason they added senior to his name so congratulations if you had a son kyle i hope that pushes you to the next level because you got the skill and hopefully penix jr can get the job done or daughter uh panics uh who's the other fucking they have that other tight end who's just like a pain in the ass sometimes like i thought kinkade had a touchdown and his dawson knocks dusty ass like and josh allen spreads the ball around like crazy man but i don't even know what Caleb Williams does because he was so loose in his rookie season, but I'm hoping he has laser eyes for my guy.

2:36:09Davis Torgerson:But trusting him for a lot of fantasy points is definitely scary going into the season. That's a risky, risky maneuver. Here we are. One day before the season kicks off. We got the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys opening things up. How do you think the game's going to go?

2:36:35Davis Torgerson:I'm guessing straight smackdown Eagles by, uh, at least a touchdown, maybe two well-oiled machine over there. And of course, of course, all the drama with the Cowboys just traded away, arguably their best player to the Packers who just whooped their ass in the playoffs. Uh, was that last year or the year before? No, the year before, because dallas didn't make the playoffs this past year i don't think um yeah i'd say beat down but exciting nonetheless cd couple tds you know dak has no choice but to throw the ball all over the damn place this year should be entertaining

2:37:24okay last year we talked about d jones lock of the week we talked about putting 100 bucks on a betting app hitting a parlay every week or maybe i'll do 120 a 10 dollar parlay every week and i think if we do it on the thursday night game this is the best way to you know immediately see how we get the job done. So we're starting on Thursday nights. That's what we're going to do, man. It's risky, but we're going to do it. We're going to pick, obviously, the Eagles to win the game. I got to start easy. I'm going to go Saquon Barkley as the first touchdown. And then that's a lock. That's the guaranteed lock.

2:38:13As long as it doesn't fall at the one, I think we're good to go. And then the Dallas Cowboys first drive of the season ending in a punt.

2:38:22Davis Torgerson:Lock it. I like that. Saquon first TD is insane, but I respect it. You got to take one risk. I respect it. You got to take one risk. There you have it. All right, y 'all. That's going to wrap up week one of the Bunt season 22. Massive shout out to NFL Canada sponsoring the rundown. Dreams really do come true. Y 'all know where to find us next week.
