In short

Topic The Bunt Jam weekend recap (basketball, skating, celebrity 3-point contest, and surprise pro/award moments) plus a preview of the next episode’s interview with skateboarder David Reyes. The episode also includes an NFL jersey trick contest announcement and promotes The Den skate video app and the Thrasher Bunt Jam recap.

Guests No co-host guests in this episode. The main featured guest is David Reyes, interviewed in the second half (S24 Episode 06).

Guest backgrounds (David Reyes) Born in Yonkers, New York; moved to Denver, Colorado at age 3 after an abusive father situation and grandparents helped relocate. Grew up in government housing/food stamps, started skating around age 9, and learned through skate videos and local skaters. Faced instability including a troubled period with car-radio theft before switching fully into skating. Later spent months in California living with/around Hell Rose (including Cory Shepherd, Paul Out Boss, Richie J-Roy, and Nuge) and recovering from a serious elbow/wrist injury after a failed back salad attempt on a 12-stair rail. Progressed through Foundation, then Mystery, and later dealt with sponsor/timing setbacks.

Key claims

  • Bunt Jam surprises and community support were “overwhelming,” including a Bunt Jam board surprise and Real Skateboards pro-for-the-weekend love.
  • David Reyes frames his “Thank You” part (2021) as his first major career breakthrough.
  • He describes Foundation/Mystery transitions as tied to stagnation and changing team dynamics.

Notable examples

  • Random skater trivia hosted by David Schubat (Mickey Wimbos) leading to Real Skateboards pro-for-the-weekend reveals (Mason and Chima).
  • Celebrity 3-point contest: Nicole wins; David misses 13 of 15 in the finals.
  • David Reyes: first front feeble on a rail after moving to California; later back salad injury; living under a “lizard lair” pool-table setup; getting taken in by Lanny Rhodes’ family.

6:00It was quick moving, you know. Enjoyed the Friday, Saturday of being pro. Glad to be retired now. But, man, the love that we received this weekend. Overwhelming.

6:12Davis Torgerson:Yeah, and it was awesome that Mason and Chima and Tim and Davis, like there was so many real homies there too. Yeah, Paddy's there. It was, they nailed it, dude. And it was crazy because I was outside and I saw Tim show up with a box of boards and I was like why did you bring that here dude he's like I just came right from the airport so I was like oh makes perfect sense you know didn't click at all and then I think someone may have said something because I was with Brian Reed at the bottom of the stairs just catching up because I haven't seen him in forever and he's like bro it's crazy we both got our names on boards no it's like oh yeah like the bump board is insane you still didn't I still like had no idea I was like having the bump board is like above and beyond man like that's a blessing and then he didn't go any further maybe he like caught himself and was like oh damn Brian how you gonna almost but uh it didn't it didn't it didn't hit me man until uh until those ones came out and then obviously Thursday night was the night we were supposed to go home early got home at three o 'clock and uh there goes the weekend man yeah um are we going through the whole thing we got to do just quickly okay um friday unreal scary like changing the venue just not knowing like what kind of people are going to come but the view was epic we had the vans boat taking people directly from the hotel to the event which i never got to go on still bummed on that but uh basketball was incredible you know the story continued and she went back to back but i think this is i'm not i am biased but i don't think this is a biased take i think our game against violet was the game of the night i think that's the game of the franchise dude i don't think there's ever been a game like that that was like a dog fight and all i could do is take my hat off to mr mike ward our whole game plan was to stop him and he's unstoppable the effort i put in to stopping that guy and like there was times where he was looking at gary and being like dude this guy's fucking all over me but it was like that was the most physical basketball game i've ever been a part of man and when you got guys as big and strong as chris brown and mike ward like you're in trouble dude and they were playing it so like smart they knew that i was gonna guard mike right but then they're like we're switching when we're on defense so then chris would come after me so i had there was zero break dude it was absolutely they threw everything at us um obviously came down to the last shot like it did in the previous one and ice in his veins mike ward does it again but dude you gotta shout out davis what a tournament he had man like we didn't get to see he hurt his knee like within one minute uh in 2024 so he was kind of playing on one leg and i was thoroughly impressed man he it was crazy ability to finish in traffic and through hella fouls because that's all everyone was fouling everyone very impressive i was also impressed cater and troy dude they got nice buckets because it can't all be uh mike so he had i felt like kate or troy and chris held him down and then it was kind of inevitable with the finals like everyone was so out of gas had we made the finals we probably would have got cooked too like we were dead yeah andrew had a lighter path to the finals um but all in all congrats to andrew of course man it was so either Either way, whether Violet or us had it been fresh, like Andrew, they looked unstoppable, dude.

10:03Like the four guys they had there in the lineup, the coaching of Nick Katz and then just their little cheering section. Like they were ready for war. They didn't really have to go through war. But if it got to it, they would have been ready. Congrats. We're coming back for that shit next year. and then first first ever three-point contest celebrity three-point contest don't remind me there were some low scores man bro that shit is hard as fuck man when the bright

10:32Davis Torgerson:lights are on and you feel like you're in a rush but before it started i was like if i don't win nicole if nicole wins that was like the next best outcome that was awesome it was her idea back in 2024 because she tore her acl like the week before the bunch in yeah and then i wanted her in the basketball tournament because she played in high school and shit so she's like i don't know with my knee but like she's like you should do a three-point contest and then we were immediately to do it that year yeah yeah yeah so it didn't happen and then it's only right that when we finally did it she was in town and she won that shit so hats off nicole you're the champ for one year and uh i'm coming for that redemption i i it you didn't see it in the recap or anything but in the finals it was me mark mcmorris and nicole and uh me and mark had three points each and i think i hit a two so i i missed 13 of 15 shots it was it was brutal yeah but uh it was so fun but it was fun again yeah and then obviously friday was awesome you moved to saturday and the stakes are just higher, man.

11:46People love the basketball, but they come for the skating. And the obstacles were epic. The Hail Mary worked better than I ever thought it would. I thought we'd get one or two tricks catching a football, but these guys are just the best skaters in the world for a reason. And, I mean, you can say what you want about the skating, But the importance of Zion Wright to the Bunt franchise cannot be overstated, man. He really is one of a kind. Shuts it down every year. Absolute entertainer. You know he had to have his moment on the mic. I was dying laughing. And he did it with no stress. Almost killed Ish Cepeda with a backflip off the stage.

12:29That was so good. That could have been bad. And then shout out to his co-MVP, Christian Jordan. but I don't think anybody landed near as many tricks as that guy did on Saturday. You know, my dog, my Wolverine, it was crazy. Did you guys chop it up? Oh, yeah. Chopped it up. Had to, you know, rep the Wolverines. I got to hit him with a little shovel pass on the front feeble kickflip. And he was, like, so serious about it. He's like, yo, you got to do it a little bit earlier. I need it a little bit higher. I'm like, I need the direction, man, because this is first of its kind. and then um so yeah the co-mvps went absolutely crazy hugo and nicole shut it down on the barn hugo's nose grind tail grab absolutely twisted and then uh one last shout out man john costs happy to see him get an award um buncham og t.legend shout out john yeah i mean we could

13:25Davis Torgerson:honestly talk all day about this i feel bad we got a david reyes interview coming oops i just gave that away you already knew that but anyways um last thing we got to go over thank you to all the skaters that was incredible we ended it with the bunt video oh that we've been working on for 18 000 years um bro we had i think carlos jp uh jake and jesse all flew in a little early and everyone was literally clipping up until the day before the film Thursday video yeah was it Thursday yeah yeah the boys got two clips on Thursday and they're in the video so all that to say Jason Burles our guy who put the video together the mastermind I can't wait for everyone to see it um he went above and beyond man just the timeline kept getting readjusted every single day until that Thursday and uh so fucking hyped that we did it together we love you uh the bunt video coming soon and then and then you know i'm saying here's one more special thing another board dude that happened at the end of the bunt video oh you got me one i gotta get you this to you yeah don't um our main man mitch barrett man jenny skateboards turned him pro it was it was insane bro costum i think was just happened to be right next to him like giving him his board and shit like it was it was just surreal for our guy man the infamous canadian legend dude i was uh standing there i had a board at one point and i was standing there chatting with tj tj rogers and i could see him just looking at the board and i'm like dude you guys have you're such close homies like you should have this board man i'll find my way to another but You should have this one.

15:25Hell yeah. But yeah, can't be understated. Jason Burroughs, the Jason Bourne of video editing. Shout out him, man. Thank you, everyone, for the weekend that was. Ghost, working with you is a pleasure. And obviously, Josh Clark and everyone behind the scenes with him.

15:42Davis Torgerson:Always. Yeah, JCTM, man. Fucking absolute legend. All right. Shit, what an intro here. All right, Ghost, tell them what we're doing this week. Quick, quick. All right. We got David Reyes, the latest. This will be the last episode you see before the video. He had a couple of clips in there. Just a crazy, crazy story, wild upbringing. The perseverance to be where he's at today is literally second to none. Awesome interview with him. Then we go on straight to the post office. Oh, wait, there's some random skater in there. and then some little NFL talk, man. Kickoff September 9th. Let's go. So speaking of the NFL, we want to do an NFL contest.

16:28We want it quick. We want it concise. We want to give away two tickets to an NFL game. Last year we did like NFL edit. This year we're doing it smaller, man. We want the one singular best trick in your NFL jersey, man. Tag at NFL Canada and at the bunt live and we'll give you some tickets it's that easy man show us what you got

16:52Davis Torgerson:what's the deadline september 16th the day the bunt video comes out easy to remember you got two weeks from when you hear this to go get your best clip in an nfl jersey and we'll send you to a game of your choice let's go man ghost shout out of the week you gotta click one for me. Lately, skate videos are treated as disposable content. Algorithms decide what gets seen and full lengths are reduced to a couple of clips in a feed. That's not how skate videos are meant to be experienced. That's why The Den was built. The Den is the skate video app. It has a deep catalog of videos preserved the way filmers intended them to be seen.

17:36Davis Torgerson:From the classics to the latest releases and even a couple of 24-hour live channels, The Den was made so when something special comes along, it stays front and center long after the feeds moved on. So if you care about skate videos like we do, get The Den for free on iPhone, Android, The Web, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire TV. Of course, I got something for you. You know, I might be biased, but the video you got to watch this week is the official Thrasher recap of the Bunt Jam. You and Bowman, Brendan Bill held us down, killed it. The quickest turnarounds in the game. I don't know how they do it every time, but thank you both so much.

18:17Davis Torgerson:Thrasher, thank you for your involvement. As always, go check out the official Bunt Jam recap at Thrasher. All right, man, we got to get some rest. Let's get into this interview. David Reyes, absolute burner, man. Let's check it out.

18:39All right. Let's get this thing popping. We've got David Reyes in the building. What's cracking, man? Getting situated at Sinclair's house. Dude, we recognize that background. It's been on the podcast once or twice.

18:52Davis Torgerson:Little random skater L. I think. Maybe he won. I actually can't remember. That's a good question. But yeah, I just got here from San Diego. I transported his pug to North Carolina. His pug has limo service. David, we start every show off the same. You got to hit us with your favorite skate moment and your favorite sports moment. Favorite sports moment would be when the Broncos played the Green Bay Packers in like 1999 or something. 98. Sweet. Super Bowl 32. Favorite skate moment would be, I mean, any moment where Leo is on. there's one in particular uh he skated this bump to bench like bus stop bench he did nose grind but the nose grind he like got in kind of weird and then like flew into the bush like it was it was fucking insane and the spot is so gnarly and he was just going the fuck off on it yeah and then we got ice cream and i was just like that was i was like that was the craziest session i've i've ever seen but that's like common with him because when he's on it's a spot he's into you're just like you kind of no one's really skating the spot that he's into you're kind of like all right we're gonna we're gonna watch this because he's gonna fuck it up was that on his instagram just put it straight to instagram fuck animal can't stop won't stop just drop some more hammers in the uh little america edit yeah shout out leo uh david take us back to the beginning man where'd you grow up and how'd you get into skating um i was born in yonkers new york and moved to denver colorado when I was three, my dad was abusive and my grandparents pretty much planned this getaway.

20:36And one day we just like packed our shit up and it was kind of like, we're either going to California or we're going to Colorado. And we got to Colorado and that's kind of how I got there.

20:45Davis Torgerson:But hold on. Was that like your dad came home and didn't know that you were going to be gone situation? I hear stories. I don't know, like the complete facts, you know, because I don't remember shit but it was pretty much like you know i came out white-skinned my sister looks more hispanic because my dad's puerto rican and my mom's uh just white sister came out looking more um you know bronzed and i came out very white-skinned so i heard stories of like getting thrown down like stairs i don't know how many stairs we're talking but you know there's like tales of like not sure if or like he didn't trust that he didn't trust my mom because i he wasn't sure if I was his and there was like a whole bunch of crazy shit so it was very very bad for her and unsafe for me and my older sister who have the same dad I have uh four siblings and I'm the second oldest all different dads except for me and my sister so grandparents pretty much made this thing happen where it was like we're packing up and we're going so he must have just been out or something.

21:48I really don't know. Wow. Yeah. And then we just moved in with my grandma until my mom got her feet under her. That was it. You know, just Aurora, Colorado was the first place we went to.

22:02Davis Torgerson:Did you have family there? That seems random. I feel like it was random. I don't I don't think we had any family there. Like maybe my aunt lived there, but I really don't know. I think it was just kind of like flip a coin. It's either Colorado or California. And they're just like, we're out no matter what and we have you know 20 hours to think about it once my mom got like her shit together you know like i was raised on you know government housing and food stamps and my mom getting like her ssi checks and you know living very like minimal because that's like what she was given was like all right here's 250 dollars in food stamps and then here's your 600 check and a portion of that goes to the rent and then bills, whatever, whatever.

22:47So it was definitely hard with like, you know, clothes and getting a skateboard especially. But then just, you know, it was just, I was the broke kid. I was poor, you know. And then we moved to this place called the Dorchester Apartments. At this time, I was about, I don't know, maybe like eight or nine. And I met the neighbor and he and I started breaking into cars. Oh, fuck. and stealing car radios. Yeah. Yeah. And then we would sell, we would sell those to this dude for like 20 bucks a pop. Holy shit, dude. Yeah. Cause it was like right before I started skating. So that's where this is all going because the kid that I was breaking into cars with, there was one moment where we were breaking into this car and the window shattered and it cut his arm and it was like all fucked up looking like muscle hanging out and shit and um the next day these like cops are knocking on our door because we are known as like the bad kids and he just tried to blame it all on me and then as soon as yeah as soon as he did that i was just kind of like yeah i'm not into this it's always like i got your back no matter what blah blah blah until like they actually until it comes down to like having your back you know and i get it you know he's probably fucking scared for his life but also like to just put all the blame on like a little kid which he probably was like they won't do shit to him but like i would get fucked on because i think yeah i think he might have been like 13 14 okay um i decided not to do that anymore and leading up to that day he showed me how to kickflip he just had a board did a kickflip and then i um i i got an x games board for my birthday like a pre-made complete yeah but the trucks and everything were solid like the bearings weren't plastic the the wheels are dope the fucking uh trucks are the same holes like same punched holes as like a normal deck yeah so yeah i was able to like mob those trucks for a bit so anyways i'm cruising around i'm skating like lines on the ground fucking parking block like trying to stall it like and the neighbors next to my hood friend that i would break into cars with they were skaters like fully like this dude john braun is from brooklyn this other dude sam was so i think he might have been like utah or something but they they lived together and um he saw me skating and they were just like you know hey try to do this put your foot here and kind of give me pointers but he started making me dub VHS tapes, two VCRs, like eight hours of just like the best skate videos.

25:31So it was like, you had like fulfilled the dream. You had misled youth, jump off a building, thrasher, skate, destroy, eight hour mixtapes of these things. And then I started to learn like, like the history of skating, but I started skate. I started skating when I was nine and it all stemmed from that, all those events. Dude, crazy lead up to that. Yeah. all that led you to a skateboard shout out your grandparents though man yeah fuck it we're out of here man and we're not yeah no trace left behind yeah just bounced and it gets even crazy what happened your dad like kept looking for you guys he kept looking yeah holy shit yeah like fast forward some time you know like i'm in fourth grade i get a phone call to go to the principal's office i go to the principal's office and they're like hey we have some bad news your dad's passed away and i they're like we can you can go home if you'd like or whatever whatever and i was just like never knew him so i went back went back to class and just like never thought about it again either like suppressed or just let it go i didn't i didn't really care and i didn't really know how to think about it you know fast forward some more time i'm getting coverage in magazines and shit like that and there's like this random new york number that's continuously calling my mom's house.

26:51And I just like never answered the phone at that time. And she she comes up to me and she says, Hey, there's this phone number calling from New York. I just want to let you know it's your dad. And I was like, what the fuck? And I'm like, 17 by this time, you know, either he faked his death, or like my mom to protect me from seeking him called the school and was like i don't know so but anyways i eventually talked to him and was just like hey like i already meet a lot of people and i forgive you for whatever you did but this just ain't it you know wow well and pretty pretty much just like we're like we're good i get dms all the time of like people being like oh i'm your cousin or like hey i'm your brother we had the same dad and like it's it's pretty fucking gnarly and at times you know yeah my mind fuck for sure of like what's the truth and what is it man 100 because there's a lot of reyes out there you know but i've had a few that i'm just like holy shit like that's for sure like i'm related to that person see the picture you're like yep it's just me i'm like what the fuck no dna test required there yeah shit man um that's a crazy story but dude shout out to you for getting past all that and look at you now man congratulations dude yo so what would you consider your first big break in the skate industry man the day that my thank you part came out is when i started to feel like i was taken a little more serious like i wasn't just like the homie on the session or you know so-and-so's friend it's weird to even like think like that but i did always feel like i was considered just like hook him up because he's angel's friend or hook him up because he's so he's windsor's friend it was always i always kind of felt like that and like i didn't mind it i mean i was getting to try i was getting to do the thing you know i was traveling but when the thank you part came out i felt like that like like rediscovered me as like my own like me david as an individual like this person got here by himself versus like which is never the case because someone's always helping you someone's either like bridging the gap to get you to meet this person or whatever it might take you know or hey i i got you i know you have no money like i'll bring you on this trip so that you can be like in the mix which like so grateful but that's friends you know those are like true ride or die friends and i would do the same for someone else that i saw in my position trying to get it going but i'm gonna go and say like the the thank you part definitely was the moment that i felt like i had like a breakthrough in my career it's so crazy because what year did that come out that came out in 2021 well we've been knowing you since

29:43Davis Torgerson:at least 10 years prior to that i would say at least mystery part yeah the knowers know but that's crazy that for you mentally, your first big break was five years ago, but you've been in the game for, you know, 15 plus better late than never player. Hey, fucking, I do it because I love it, you know, and it's always been for the soul. So I don't, I didn't ever see like a reason to just be like, you know what? I'm done skating like with sponsors or without, like, I just love it. I fucking love skating. There's no reason to stop chucking my body. if I'm able. Yeah, respect. That's epic. That's what's up.

30:27Davis Torgerson:So you got into the foundation camp at a super early age. Take us back to that connection. You mentioned Angel being a part of that. What's the story there? The foundation thing came up. So Angel was the first out of our squad. Like we had, at the time, it was like we all had crews. And our crew was called Chebby Crew, C-H-E-B-B-Y. our friend Bucky who actually made all the three or three videos at that time was a huge Chevy Chase fan so he called us the Chevy crew I don't know so anyways Angel was the first out of our squad to make it in skating like he was the the one that like got hijacked when people came into town and took him to California and uh the person that did that was Dave Huang on a on an Etnies barbecue tour it was like baby shecks angel hebdias rivera i think there might have been like like a tiny grant and a tiny colin like everyone was just we were all just kids you know and we're all around this same age i was youngest but obviously like me and sheckler are the same age so this was around the time like sheckler and i had met and it we were probably you know 10 11 maybe even like 12 You know, the first time I met Sheckler was on a world trip and they came to Denver and Angel and I were always point of contact for tour guides.

31:48So we already kind of knew Ryan a little bit. And then Dave Huang came back out on a Etni's barbecue tour. They after that trip ended, they pretty much invited Angel back to California. So Angel bounced and went to California and he was skating foundation boards. we were all hyped and he was just like yeah so this is what this is what it's like in california you know like he was like our messenger he would go out the tales he would go out there yeah and he'd come back just telling us all these six stories about like just california like the ground is so smooth it's crazy anyway so he would bounce back and forth and then one time foundation came to colorado it was like josh beagle and heath kirchart and then there was like steve fowzer was on pigwood slash was there matt allen tommy garola sammy baca leo there was like a few other tony silva they were raging at their fucking hotel and little me moseyed in because angel's like hey meet up at the hotel we're gonna we're gonna meet up with like the foundation dudes and pretty much was like i'm gonna introduce you to everybody he always took me under his wing you know like whether it was like hand-me-downs with like old trucks or whatever the fuck because uh he or i couldn't afford this shit like we both grew up like same scenario same situation so anyways i walk into this hotel room and you just got like kerchart fucking throwing bottle rockets out the window onto like the main street like in cold on colfax which is fucking insane and there's just bottle caps and like loogies on the ceiling and it was fucking gnarly but like that that me walking into that i like enjoyed chaos you know i was just like it's like kind of the thing that I knew and uh watching these dudes just shatter tvs and shit it was fucking crazy they got kicked out of their hotel obviously and um my sister at the time was in jail so my older sister was in jail for like burglary or some whatever the fuck she was doing it was and she's always had my back like she taught me how to drive to get my driver's license in a stolen neon you know you know what i mean so like yeah so like anyway so i was like she wouldn't mind that i invite everyone to stay in her room because she had a set of bunk beds in there and then my brother i don't know where he was at but he had a room a bunch of floor space and then i had my room so i was just like hey we can stay at my house i didn't even ask my mom or anything because she kind of let me do what I wanted just because all of the family's attention was trying to help my older sister.

34:24So their bandwidth, they had no bandwidth to like, you know, and they knew that I wasn't going to like try to fuck shit up because I pretty much learned my lesson after trying to steal those car radios. So they all stayed at my house. There's like 13 fools staying at my house and like, uh, Josh Beagle, Heath Kirchart and Greg Esquire went and roamed the city and probably just burned it to the fucking ground you know who knows what they were doing because what i walked into i was like holy shit like they didn't give a fuck and um the next day i lived down the street from this rail and we skated the rail and it was like my first front feeble and you're just all amped up i was like oh my god like super shitty front feeble too like where you lock in kind of and then it goes into like salad after that trip ended angel pretty much was like hey you guys remember david and just like hyped it up and you know josh beagle hit me up and was pretty much like hey i'm gonna start sending you boards crazy i started getting started getting foundation boards you know yeah that's awesome we heard you lived under a pool table at hell rose when you're 12 years old man tell us about that time in that era angels fully on volcom on circa foundation like they're filming for chichigov and i thought it was chicago a lot of people did i had i had intel I had what is Chichagoff?

35:43Davis Torgerson:What the fuck kind of name is that? I thought it was like Chicago with an F man. Yeah I think it just looked good together. I don't know. I feel like it looks cool, but it sounds crazy The fuck does that even mean? What the fuck is the Bones Brigade man? No idea No idea

36:07wow i can't believe david took the bait to she took the bait back to the back to the story he was filming for chichigov yeah so he uh invited me to come with him to california and we like drove out there i still don't even know what bait i took no donald said what the fuck's the

36:26Davis Torgerson:bones brigade and everyone's just lighting him up in the comments so the fact that you just agreed with that you might get what that's up to they're coming for you too now i know i know the bones brigade so we're yeah i know that for sure you know i'm like i can't believe you just said that you might get some crossfire i'm clipping that for my personal social media clip that yeah i go on this i go on this trip with angel and abdias we're staying at sheckler's house and it was the first time that we saw someone with like a their own skate park you know like he had a skate park on the side of his house and it was just like we're skating that and then we're skating like we go into the garage and he's got every size at knees that you could think of and like he's like find your size you put your shoe up you find your shoe size you go out to the pool there's a launch ramp into the pool there's water decks everywhere it was the funnest fucking day ever at the end of the day i can feel like something was going on like that they had been like trying to figure something out.

37:25I think it was if Diaz was just like, Hey, so we leave to Mexico tomorrow. Uh, what do we do with David? And I was just like, Oh shit. Like these guys are like doing it, you know? And then, uh, angels like, I got you, I got a place for him. And I guess he called Nuge and Richie or J Roy, someone over there. And they were just pretty much like, yeah, let them come on down. I was like 13. And, um, I went and hung out at hell rose for like maybe six months you know it might have been like five months wow and there's like five units so you had like cory shepherd in one paul out boss richie j roy and new gin one james atkin downstairs which was the most domesticated one like he was like in a real strong relationship who's now his wife he found true love and i was there to witness it very nice and he's always had my back it's it's crazy like being friends with all these people still but he let me stay at his place and i would just sleep under the lizard lair which was a table like little kid style fucking um like clubhouse like it was blankets over the table to cover the sides to keep the light out fire and then just like a fucking mattress like a stack of blankets and i you know at this time i probably had 50 bucks to my name and i had i had no desire of going back to colorado or ever even thought that i would have to ever go back home i was just kind of like cool this is it this is my life yeah i was like i'll figure something out you know bro you grew up quick man and um you know out of respects i would like i would keep my zones clean and i would you know clean the counters and dishes and then I'd go upstairs and clean Nuge and Richie and J-Roy's apartment and clean the bomb, put fresh water in it, fucking vacuum, wipe the counters down.

39:22And then it got to a point where they started being like, hey, I'll give you 20 bucks to clean my apartment. Hey, I'll give you 20 bucks to wash my truck. So I started, I had this system going where I was like, all right, if I do this every so often, I could keep the dream alive. They would hook me up with boards, And the only time we would go skate was we would go to Brea Park, which at that time was like the worst skate park ever. And I was just like, I want to like skate street. I want to like film. I want to like I want to do it. I want to be out there doing it because the skate parks had a spot that has a 12 stair at it, like 12 stair rail, like Reynolds, Fakie, Varial, Heel, Tony Tave, Nolly and Reel Flip in like the theatrics video.

40:04If you remember that one.

40:05Davis Torgerson:Of course, with the big crowd. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. So I remember like this was that was the spot that you would skate. Like Angel got back from Mexico, met me at fucking, you know, Hell Rose. And we're skating the rail, like skating a 12-ster rail. And at that time, it was like the spot. Like people would sash it. I remember trying to do back salad. And I was like, fuck yeah, I'm going to back salad grind this. And I sacked it so hard and like broke my elbow. Or I fractured my elbow and broke my wrist. And I look up and it's Mark Alpiard. and he's just looking at me and i was just like no i'm cool you know just got went back up thinking i was fine and then like back grinded it one more time and then i was just like i'm fucked i'm i'm not good so i went to the doctor and got like a splint and x-rays and all that shit healed up i would put i i cut the splint and i would put books on my arm and like let my arm like weigh down to like straighten my elbow out and then i i nursed myself back to health and then hit up my friend bucky and was like hey um you have a friend that you share edits with on myspace can you hit him up i'm trying to skate you know i want to like skate i can't be skating brea park all the time and trying to back salad this 12 i i didn't make it you know i fucking died this dude pulls up in an astro van and scoops me up and uh my friend trevor just takes his skating through la and i I think that first day I got like four tricks, you know, like kickflip backboarded.

41:35You know, the rail that you drop in on wood and then it's like an eight or whatever.

Read the full transcript

41:40Davis Torgerson:The perfect one. Yeah. Kickback with Austin Stevens. Yep. Stevens. I did kickflip board, kickflip nose slide, and back susky. Wow. And I was like, I'm on top. You know, like this feels great. Kick nose. What? Kick back nose. And some man techas. so yeah and um that dude ended up being lanny rhodes he took me under his wing and his dad let me into his house open arms and you know at this point it's probably like the beginning of like my sixth month window being in california and uh now i'm in oceanside and big john is like my fatherly figure he always lets people in this is lanny's dad so he he always like helps people get jobs or get sober.

42:28And like, he's just, you know, he takes people in to get them back on the right path. But he pretty much said, Hey, you can stay here the rest of the summer if you'd like, or I can fly you home whenever you want. And I was just like, well, yeah, I had$50 like six months ago and you know, I'm not washing anyone's cars or kitchens or anything anymore. So I should probably go home and i think i flew home like a couple weeks later but like growing up in that environment how i did and how many other people do it's like hard to ask for like help or ask for like anything you know and also at the time it's like hey you're a man take care of yourself don't be a little bitch you know so you're literally a kid though you're not a man yeah you've been taking care of yourself yeah and that was that was the beginning i was 14 at that time i had a birthday out there i did the whole bit and then i went back to colorado and that was kind of when i was like all right i want to do this you know i want to go all in on this and i want to like like fuck school like relationships like i kind of like disappeared from family even though i would talk to my mom mostly but like sister brother like i kind of just like put it all anything and everything that I had into skating to just kind of, that's the, all I knew.

43:52Davis Torgerson:Crazy. Yeah. So from there foundation doing your thing, you were there for quite a while actually, but you eventually make the switch to mystery. Tell us about your stint there. Maybe the timing of it wasn't perfect. And then that eventually, you know, falls apart, but yeah. Tell us about the next chapter there. I was on foundation flow for maybe five years, something like that. I was on foundation for maybe two years, like officially. And at that time it was like, Angel got kicked off. Abdias got let go. And all the people that kind of had like supported and guided me to this moment were now disappearing and like, or going like, you know, not skating anymore or we're older like people are starting to party more and so it just started to get down to like this like weird moment where I just felt like I was in you know felt like nothing was happening it felt like nothing was moving just felt stagnant and um at this point Sinclair's the team manager and I was just like Mike what's going on here like like are we filming a video are we doing the thing you know he just would he would just be like just keep going man fuck just keep going and I would I would keep going and then eventually I was just like fuck like what's happening and I think it just Windsor is on mystery I mean we grew up together he's from Colorado Springs and you know 303 connection there and Mike Gilbert um who made like all the color theory videos and the mystery video and another guy that took me under his wing when I was younger and he pretty much was just like get on mystery and Windsor was like yeah let's get you on mystery and I thought about it because at the time there was like I said I was I was stagnant and I was just like I don't know maybe I was desperate to like see what would happen like if I just went my own route instead of being like I don't know under not even in like angel's shadow but just kind of like wanted to go my own route and just try to like pave my own way to just kind of see where I can take it so anyways I get a phone call from Jamie and he's pretty much just like hey so like do you want to do this mystery thing and i was just like yeah i'm fucking down like they just came out with like i think a little bit prior to that was like maybe black and white was that the first mystery video well they had the one in the zero video the section in the zero video but i think black and white was the first full length from them yeah i mean in new in new blood that was the fucking craziest way to introduce a brand ryan smith like so fucking sick.

46:28And I was just like, I want to be a part of that. Like pretty much he was just like, all right, well out of the, for as a professional, I think the best way to do it is I will contact Mike and let him know that this is what you're doing. And, um, what I should have done was like made the phone call and pretty much been like, Hey, this is what's going on. I'm going to do this, but I didn't know how to do that so jamie made the phone call and pretty much i always felt like mike had like this grudge towards me so i i hit him with it one day like hey do you have a grudge towards me and he pretty much was like no dave what the hell i'm like you know was it weird telling that story in mike's house is he watching you no no he's out fixing the van yeah you know it was though

47:19Davis Torgerson:If he had a grudge, he's over it, clearly now. Yeah, obviously. He trusts me with his dog. You're still making up for it. He's like, yo, drive my dog across the country. Remember when Jamie quit for you? That will never be paid. I wonder if, but would Jamie have been mad if one of his riders quit that way? Probably. It's kind of weird that he suggested that. Yeah. I mean, he's been ruthless in business over the years, it seems like. And at that time, he was like a completely different fucking person. You know, like he was like the Jamie Thomas, that era, you know, like he was business. He was a he's a businessman.

47:58You know, that's you got to think like through his entire career, he's filmed, edited, ran the company like he's fucking done everything the entire time he's been skating. so it's like in life you're supposed to grow from mistakes and be like there's no fucking

48:15Davis Torgerson:perfect person out there so it's like no for sure he felt at that time it was right to do it that way and as i got older i realized that's not how i should have let it happen just real quick jamie thomas the editor underrated so fire like so real shit but i love that like reynolds and jamie Thomas are the first ones that come to mind, like mega legends on the board. But like some of the shit they do in the edit booth is incredible as well. Legendary. They know the trick pattern. You know, they have like this recipe, you know, even with like my last part, he told me some shit and I was just like, never would have looked at it that way.

48:55You know, I've been working on this part for like three years, three and a half years. It all looks the same to me. I'm staring at a puzzle and every fucking piece looks the exact same. I, you know, I've been putting music to this and like trying to like figure out like the feel and like is this something that's going to have shelf life or is this just going to be a pass by like what am I trying to do here when I showed him the stuff he was just like this is good and hearing that like made me feel good because I know like how high of a standard he has when it comes to like video parts and shit like that and obviously I have a high standard for what I watch and what I what I would like to see skateboarders doing as far as like shit that has like a standard not just getting away with fucking murder doing like the bare minimum you know what i mean like like what like who who's doing that he's trying to line some shit up i just feel like uh a lot of skating is definitely there's like a whole route like a whole generation that's just like does bullshit and then there's like a then there's like sprinkled people involved in the middle and like kind of out there that like have kept it real then there's like people that are vintage like myself that skate how i remember skating being so like you're i'm getting to see like the generations of things which is like where i was like holy shit i've been doing this for too long but he just the the advice was pretty much like hey if you see anything that you think I could do better please tell me and he gave me all the advice I needed where it was just like let's like show like diversity and let's show like more options and he was like the way that I edit it'll be like rail gap to rail hubba line of some sort and then rail hubba ledge line of some sort like something to break it up you know so it's like you get this like boom boom boom and then you get like something and then boom boom boom and then you get something so that you get these peaks and valleys that uh keep your attention there otherwise if it was just like just like rail rail rail rail which like is my parts usually but it's like the way that he was able to put it together was like i get it i never would have thought of doing like hubba gap to rail a gap ledge line of some sort or like something different you know so that's like his pattern where it's like boom boom boom line boom boom that part definitely felt different like it was

51:28Davis Torgerson:very i mean it was just high level so it stands out but like yeah i gotta re-watch it knowing that now yeah it's uh shouts to the chief okay i see the chief yeah bunt video coming soon still hit him up he'll edit that shit our main man jay's in the booth it's all here we go also also been known to make a classic you know i'm saying i love that for will marshall aspect ratio go rewatch david you had stints on dog and technique which didn't last too long uh you seem to have some pretty bad luck with sponsors and timing over the year what's what's the story there so i was on mystery i was on this trip in like virginia beach and uh i was judging a bikini contest it was random i don't know how i ended up in this situation but i was there and i'm getting fucked up i'm drinking i'm poolside you know i'm i'm like this is insane like what am i fucking doing here i get a phone call and it's jamie and i'm just all what's up jamie he's pretty much like hey i'm sure this is like probably like uncomfortable or you know knowing that you're the last dude on mystery and i was like the last dude on mystery like sasha was i just talked to him like a couple days ago he was still on but i guess everyone was quitting and the the brand wasn't doing that good and i was just oblivious because i was judging bikini contest drinking fucking umbrella drinks over by the pool yeah so mystery was done at that point you know and he was pretty much like hey you could either like try to revamp it or like stick around and see what happens or you know and i was like well fuck whatever like i guess that's it and then i i was just no board sponsor for fucking ever plan b was through the branch at this time and i was already friends and traveling with checkler and t pudds and like you know that and trevor mcclung like these guys were we're all on circa or just like fucking 20 plus year friends and uh they were pretty much like hey let's fucking um let's get you some boards like let's try to fucking make this happen and me and Sheckler had always want Sheckler have always wanted to be on the same board company and um he pretty much just like put it all out there to try to get me on and so did Tori and I was getting flowed plan b boards and really thought it was going to happen that kind of went on for a while it just it just kind of died down and then Tori reached out to me pretty much thinking of starting something but at the time wasn't really sure if it was going to happen but i told him like anything that you start like we're friends like i'll grow with you well i'll sync with you like it's like we're fucking friends so anyways i agreed or i talked to tory about this thing that he was going to start and this thing was a board company and he hadn't said anything to like danny or anyone about this thing that he was going to do so like the plan b thing's done i'm just like it's fucking done you know i'm just gonna like keep getting these boards i was like splatter painting them like it was like fun and then um i get a phone call from danny way and i was just like this is weird this is crazy you know like what the fuck like the whole plan b thing was done like this is crazy now and then pretty much was getting told like hey let's fucking do this we're gonna give you an ad we're gonna fucking do this let's fucking do that as i'm on my way to tory's house to talk about this thing this board company that he's trying to create and i was like fuck of course this is like what would happen is like the i haven't had a board sponsor in fucking eons and now like i have d-way calling me being like hey let's fucking do this and i was just like i'm committed to teaputs like i'm gonna go with tori i didn't tell him that because tori hadn't done the thing that he needed to do which was tell danny that he's gonna start you know that he was going to start this brand and it was like it was a mess so anyways i'm on my way to tory's i get to tory's house and i'm like hey you have to make some moves because i can't be like hey danny just so you know i'm gonna do this thing with tory which he has no fucking idea that tory's doing a thing so then that's christ yeah so then that that was weird and then eventually tory did his thing and went through with it and um ended up not starting the brand and i was like oh shit that didn't work out which i missed the opportunity and then he also quit plan b and then i get re i get hit up by this is like another year or two later um reno the dude that um ran dog hit me up this might be like five years later it's like i don't even time just kind of just mashes in together the dog thing came up and it was pretty much like let's film like an instagram like part type thing and we'll we'll introduce you to dog and i was able to like be on the creative side of like let's do this video with shrimp daddy where antoine is debo and me and tansoni are fucking ice cube and was it chris is it chris tucker chris rock one i don't even know and we did it and we executed it and it was funny And later that night after the shoot, we went to the bar and there was some sort of confrontation between Tan Soni and Reno.

57:00And literally, I had just got on, you know, I'm just like, all right, this is going to be awesome. Jamie's going to film a part. We'll make this video. We can do like this. I can set up this, like whatever. I fucking look over and Jamie punches the shit out of Reno in the face. And I was just like, oh my God, what the fuck? And there was some indifferences there and it was fucked. And I was like, damn. And Reno looked at him and he's like, you dug your own grave. He's like, you're off. Just kicked him off right there. Never hit him back, nothing. And I was like, well, shit. I was like, fuck. So that wasn't a good start.

57:44I think maybe a couple months later Reno was pretty much just like hey I'm pulling the plug So I was on like dog for like six months Damn Could have been with the big three man It would have been sick Just to like be in a video with Antoine And Tan Sonny would have been so fucking dope And I mean the brand had like A cool thing going I don't know So that happened

58:08Davis Torgerson:Bad luck man We're like not even halfway through It's gonna take all night if we go Just imagine when I used to do coke.

58:20I'll talk your fucking ear off. God damn. You're out of control, my G. When leaving Toronto after a great weekend, you might be traveling through New York. Here are a few good words to get you around that town. First up, OD. It means extremely or a lot. So if someone says your trick was OD, that's a good thing. Unless they're talking about the bail. Then you probably went OD. Next up, bet. It basically means, okay, sure, or I'm down. Someone says, meet at spot too. You say, bet. Easy. And finally, John. John is basically a word for anything. A person, a place, a thing. So if someone says, pass that, John.

59:07Just hand them whatever you like. these words of New York wisdom were brought to you by CHPO always doing it for the people and these glasses are the CHPO Bunt Jam Colab and they will be available on chpobrand.com very soon so make sure to get yourself a pair

59:31Davis Torgerson:I mean if you can actually stick the bullet points we could go through it but can I trust you to do that? no you can't be trusted let's do it pinky promise okay all right i'm talking like two minutes per brand here we go ready yeah let's hear it all right so after dog ended and the fucking building was burning down i uh i got hit up by eric lanto who runs classic skate shop and he hit me up pretty much being like, hey, my buddy owns this company called Techni, which I didn't find the name that appealing, but it's all like artist based and it was cool and you'd be able to like build it up and whatever.

1:00:13And at this point I was like, maybe I could build this thing. I was on there for eight months and my contract was coming up and Tori had already started. Thank you. And I was like, pretty much I said, wherever I'm at, I'll be there if you hit me up. And he ended up hitting me up and he was like, hey, you should be with us. And I was like, yes, I should be. And learning the mistake I did from Mike and getting on Mystery, I made it a point to hit up Colin myself because he's a fucking good dude and pretty much told him like, hey, this is what I'm going to do. And that was it. And he was down. He was just like, yeah, you should do that.

1:00:50That's like your fucking dog. Go build something with your friend. uh was able to film my thank you part which was the part that i felt was like the beginning of my career where i was able to get you know i got invited to uh like parties fucking street league you know i was like yeah you know this is sick like i went to some fucking mansion party i was like what the fuck walking through a bush and there's just a rolls royce next to the fucking pool i was like i have officially made it yeah and then obviously to run a board company in an economy that's fucked is like a hard thing and then tory running it one fucking man show wasn't gonna help any bit you know so after a i mean i think i was on thank you for maybe three years maybe two two and a half i don't even know and it went under it was just one of those things where it was like hey it ain't doing good and you know his mental health was getting to him because he was only in the warehouse printing boards, packing orders.

1:01:52He was starting to make graphics, and he wasn't skating as much as he wanted. He's married, and he wasn't hanging out with his wife as much. It was destroying him. Around this time, I get a phone call from Jamie, and Jamie was pretty much like, hey, I apologize about the mystery thing, how that all panned out and whatnot, but you should skate for zero.

1:02:17Davis Torgerson:Were you still on Thank You at the time? Yeah, but this is at the very tail end of it, where Tori's like, I'm fucking depleted. He and I were in Denver filming a 303 Thank You collab, and we were building this DIY ledge, and we were at Home Depot. And while I'm buying concrete, Jamie calls, and I was just like, whoa, look, the chief. And then we're just like, oh, that's fucking crazy. And I was just like, what's up, Jamie? And pretty much, yeah, he was just like, you should be on Zero. no time frame to like decide like this is something that like you should be on and feel like you should have been over here this whole time anyways and i was like yes same thank god dude yeah i was like i have felt like i'm supposed to be with zero since the beginning of time like i i was like upset that i would have to have this conversation with tori and i just like sat on the idea for like three weeks and pretty much was just like, how am I going to go about this?

1:03:21We're friends before anything. And that's always like business is something that's separate, separate from friendship, which sometimes business ends friendship. But I did, I knew that that wasn't the case here. Tori always was like hitting up like Dane and, you know, being like, why isn't he on zero? Just fucking put him on zero already. Like he was always like rooting for it, you know? and then I never saw it happening in my entire life so I called Tori and we talked for about fucking two and a half maybe three hours and I pretty much just told him like what Jamie said and then pretty much was like what do you want you know and he's like I just want to skate hang out with my wife like I don't want to fucking print boards I don't want to do this I don't want to do that his mental health is like more important than fucking running a brand and I was just like i think you know what you need to do the brand's not doing well like it's fucking killing you like you have a wife and like go hang out with her and you want to skate go fucking skate your t-puds like you should be skating especially since you're able so that's what happened and then you know i talked with jamie and then we the ball started rolling what a story dude I tried to keep I tried to keep that one quick I was like fucking squeeze some shit in at the end but that was a wicked one that's a roller coaster right there man yeah

1:04:49Davis Torgerson:where you always belonged great ending to that journey with all the boards and the no boards for years too so on the shoe side let's keep the pace quick I'm liking this new David right here. Trying to keep it going. On the shoe side, you wrote for Circa for a while. We'll skip that. You know what I'm saying? I know. Tail end of the glory days over at Circa, I feel like. Tail end, yep. Bro, you wrote for Etnies. You were part of Album. You shared a part with your man Shex. Shex, daddy. Long-awaited video. But what was going on at Etnies behind the scenes? It feels like they kicked off half the damn team as soon as that video came out.

1:05:28Davis Torgerson:Came out. I got kicked off like six months before the video came out. What? Oh, my God. I was like, what the hell is happening here? And they still put you in the damn video but cut your check six months prior? I was fucking – no, I was getting – I got a pay cut and then was getting paid the remainder of that with a pay cut. So I don't know. It's such a weird thing. It was like you guys have – like this is me talking to the dudes at Ed News. It's like you guys have always had the team. There's always like a window where you have a team and then you wipe it and then you start to rebuild and then you have the team again and then you wipe it out.

1:06:09You never like make a video or like do something like I've been saying this. Like what like what the fuck? So I'm like, you have the team again. And then I don't know what happened behind closed doors, but they started they like agreed to make the video. and at that time I was raging and Julian was raging, Tanstoni, all of us were just fucking going off, you know. But we always skated and we always delivered and like we were always on time. But there was like, there was like, there's some weirdness going on after they had agreed to like making the video, like Manzuri might've been going through some shit.

1:06:47I don't know. It was kind of a hard process filming that one and then seeing it and being like, it's cool. You know, I'm not like the most hyped on the overall video. It was kind of just, it was kind of harsh. And then especially like them kick, I got kicked off like six months before the video was out. And I was just like, hey, I started this video project. I'm going to end this video project. And then I'm out, you know, I'm already out. I can't even, you can't, you can't even be like a, you want to fire me? I quit. Like I had already been, I'm fucking done. like i already got fired i'm fucking done like i'm gonna finish this i'll take a pay cut crazy yeah i'll take a pay cut and you pay me out until the video is done and yeah so i mean i was on etnies for maybe three four years and they they just kicked off so many people the only other

1:07:42Davis Torgerson:time i remember that was like dc did a video one time back in the day and like they kicked off greg myers the second it came out he had his like last really good part in that and shit like what the weird how that works but man it's funny you you notice that too because i feel like that doesn't get talked about much i think we talked about it with arto but like all the eras of etnies had the most beast teams and they never did a full length they just paid for their riders to travel and film for their board brands or other brands like it just never made sense bro imagine a video when it was janowski arto and bastion like what the fuck man make the damn video or then when it was malto mikey taylor that crew like make a fucking video not like a little shit tour video i look at it and i'm like that's so sick that like we were the guys that were the video you know what i mean because i'm just like you guys have had like the elite team but we got the video you know i thought it was funny i was like this is fucking hilarious obviously like you know she's being there for as long as he had been yeah like sheckler never had at nice part before that and he was on for fucking 20 years or something that's insane but yeah then they said they just as the video was happening they were just like david you're done julian you're done jamie you're gone like you know we're giving pay cuts across the board and you're just like i don't fucking get it this is crazy like it doesn't surprise me because your track record but like in the middle of a video like and you guys keep telling us to like have fun and you know it's like like what's the blue like who printed out this blueprint like what the fuck yeah this is my yes so yo you have a seat in brayden holman's van these days man tell us about your seat and who the rest of the crew is so i sit in the the middle bench by the window okay and then uh tim aguilar is next to me on the right side and then uh in front of me is leo and then in front of tim is uh jeremy liabres and then dakota sits fucking passenger and then uh uh Brayden will drive and if we have a and then CJ Collins is usually in the back that's where it goes and there's no moving no if you if you've ever traveled in a tour van you like and you know that you're going to be there for a while because we do we do like month-long two-month three-month long trips you start to figure out like your rhythm so you're like my water bottles here I got my phone here I have my snacks here and then it's like you just know where to grab things you're like this is where that is and everyone's like that every single seat in that bench everyone has their things and that's that's how it goes so there's no moving around yeah that's awesome yeah and there's lots of shit talking and lots of just memories being made and and a crazy amount of skating which is like the whole goal yeah you guys got a productive ass crew man i like it we're like almost like the last the last of the mohicans like i don't know if anyone else fucking lives in a van that long anymore i feel like it was like such a thing that people did back in the day and now it's like nah i'm gonna go skate chevy chase park and like film an edit you know it's fucking crazy to me times have changed brother i know respect the ogs and the new the new generation living like the ogs keep doing your thing i mean you do both you hit a skate park edit or you'll hit an edit fucking warming up on a street rail like it's a skate park rail.

1:11:29Got to keep the blade sharp, especially at this age.

1:11:33Davis Torgerson:Who started that? Darrell? That's the first person I saw talking about a Gnar blade stuck in my brain forever. Keep the blade sharp. Yeah, I have some stories just from like Julian Davidson because he grew up in Long Beach. And he would watch like Scott Cain and fucking Curtis Calamonaco and all these dudes just like fucking up El Dorado Little Rail. And they would run through everything. That was what they did That crew was crazy That was a dope crew Jason Jones and shit Jeremiah Vance Nah nah nah He was prank calling My boy Galea Jeremiah Vance Galea was like You're out here prank calling me I'm Molly Hill backlipping tents I've always loved Galea Yeah That's a workhorse too man him and paul macknell did their thing all right but speaking of narblades we need uh some translations just tell us what some of your lingo because in case you're watching you haven't noticed david's got his whole own language of skate shit give us a translation warden uh someone's girlfriend that's giving them hell on tour oh we need to steal that one that's so fire sheriff uh i'm the sheriff of denver so it's like when i went to uh when i go to kansas city i hit up malto and i say hey do i have permission to cross your county line i'm entering i'm entering kansas city and it's just a fun little joke but oh that's fire that's cool out here we got mitch barrett is the sheriff of ottawa even though he lives in vancouver now yeah you gotta let him hit him up jurisdiction i guess we just went over that.

1:13:20Yeah, it's my jurisdiction, Denver.

1:13:22Davis Torgerson:Okay. Plot twist. There's always a plot twist at the end of the day. For instance, my entire career has been a plot twist.

1:13:35Davis Torgerson:Okay. Self-explanatory. Seal the ship. When I would get hung over, I would just black out the curtains and I would seal the ship. Nothing gets in. Nothing gets out.

1:13:49Davis Torgerson:kill bag the kill bag is the pretty much people would call it the no excuse bag but I'm super into true crime and serial killers would have a kill bag so I was like alright I'm going to make my own kill bag which is everything and anything to make spots skatable sick again Mitch Barrett I'd love to see you guys compare kill bags one day. And Justin Bull. That's a kill car. Yeah, he's the sheriff, and he's got one of the biggest kill bags in the game as well. Yeah, I hit him up about how to do concrete stuff. Sick. Yeah. Love that, man. Every scene needs one of y 'all. Warden is probably my favorite one, and I will be using that.

1:14:41Davis Torgerson:Everyone, yeah, there's wardens all over the damn place. it's like we're on tour didn't you tell him that this is what you do why is she giving you hell sometimes that doesn't even matter dude it doesn't it doesn't matter what you tell him no so yo you clearly take video parts very seriously what's the process when putting them together man so it always starts with the song like what song gives you the chills or like what song could possibly like make the hair on your the back of your neck stand up even if it's for a millisecond i feel like that's the song that i would use so i have a timeline and i have probably over a hundred songs through like the the entirety of filming the project and i'll put a song to it i'll get super fucking into it i can hear the song in my my head when i'm skating and i'm just like oh this would be like a sick section where it's like it's just like rapid fire and then i'll get into another song anyways i'm just like figuring out all the music trying to feel the feel.

1:15:46And then at the end of the day, those hundred songs turn into 10 songs and then five songs and then one song. And that's the most important part, I feel. And the whole idea is, if the song, the whole, I mean, the rule of thumb is if the song is shit, the part will most likely be shit.

1:16:07Davis Torgerson:Oh, I hate that so much. Like, I hate it. When you're looking forward to a part for a long time and then the song doesn't hit for you and sometimes like i'll just give the example and this is no disrespect to anyone involved but i remember in since day one i could not wait for chima's part like his ads over the years leading up to that i'm like yo he's about to shut it down and the clips were that gnarly but the song just didn't work for me and it was just like it kind of killed the rewatch ability for me you know but since then i feel like his vans parts and stuff some of the best ever put together so no disrespect but when the song misses it ruins it yeah yeah he's one of the fucking best that's for fucking damn putting a part together damn right putting a part together fucking tricks like in a pro yeah he's a he's a professional skateboarder hell yeah sure no um wild heart still fresh still fucking you're in the sody convo and shit but uh it's crazy which which uh what trick was the biggest battle in that part because it's not always the ender no the ender like that was my third time there but the day i did it was like fifth try you know wow and like i mean the the hardest part was making the rail skatable that was like harder than the trick there was obviously some sketchy fucking moments for damn sure but for the most part yeah i was surprised that that worked don't get sidetracked here david i know i fucking

1:17:44hardest trick i would say i don't know that i went to everything like most that stuff wasn't just like one day you know it It was just like, gotta go back or gotta find another table to try to fakey 503 flip. Like, I went to like six or fucking ten or... I don't even know how many fucking mini tables I tried to fakey 50 fakey track. I would say... I don't even know. A lot of it was hard.

1:18:11Davis Torgerson:It's the biggest battle. Most hours, maybe. I don't know. I think it would probably be the nose grind was the scariest. I like nose grinded that the Heath Kirchhoff. He did the front board and this is skateboarding. That was more scary because that thing was like, it's like up to my neck, had to cut a kink off and then like went there to, I was like lip slide. That's it. You know? And then I lip slid it and I was just like, it's not enough. And I just stood on the idea, like losing sleep for, you know, a couple of weeks until I was like, fuck it. I have to go nose grind it. i guess that would be the hardest mentally because that was like you know biggest nose grind i've done so you know what i love those stories i remember mike carroll detailing his back lip and modus and it's like it kind of goes by in the video and you just can't put yourself like thinking that you were scared of that i watch your part it's like oh you probably just fucking this is all white work to you nose grinds probably that's probably you know not that gnarly for your i don't know not it's obviously gnarly but knowing that that was the biggest mental battle is surprising but also very cool to hear because i never would have guessed that yeah that was me pushing my limit with like because there's there is no test the waters on that thing like i almost stacked it on nose grind i was just like this is the scariest as fucking rail ever.

1:19:42I love that.

1:19:43Davis Torgerson:Love to hear that. So one more specific, you know, you probably could have guessed that I would have asked about this one, but can you take us behind the scenes on your Switch tray lip? Back to Switch, baby. Yeah. The only way. The only buzz. See, I always hated how people would do that trick and not do it fully. Like, like even like a three foot lip to fakie, I was always just like, that's disgusting. Like it should just be like a three flip lip and land straight. Like the one rally did. So fucking sick. Yeah. But then like switch, I always saw everyone doing it and like pulling it back to regular.

1:20:22And when you, when you're learning how to do that trick, you could see why they go that route. Because like with the first lock in, you lock in like open shoulders in a board slide. And then all you have to do is just whip it out. I was on a trip with Sheckler actually at, um, Woodward East and they have this little baby rail. And I don't know why I decided to learn switch three foot lips, maybe because I had a week there and I was just like, gotta fucking do something, you know, it was like so much time and it's just Amish town. So it's like, you're, you're at the skate park until you leave the fucking until the week.

1:21:01And, um, I just started messing around with it. And I think I learned it in like three hours and I did one really, I did one really shitty. And then I did one that I was like, damn, I might be able to do this on something. Like I had already done all the things wrong. Uh, one of those long trips came up. We are going to be on the road for two months. And I was, I was on the trip the entire time searching for a rail to switch three foot lip. and i was like fuck no one goes back to switch like you might get like two or three maybe or just you know you don't see them ever everyone goes to regs frankie spears shout out yeah that new york rail yeah yeah i uh i tried it on three different rails west kramer shout out sorry yeah yeah yeah no the gov but then yeah it's like i tried on three different rails or two different rails leading to that the one that i did it on the one that i did it on i cut off eight knobs in the middle of the day tried it for four hours and didn't get it you know i locked into literally every fucking thing you could think of smith lip nose grind nose blunt fucking low c grind all the fucking things and then um on top of that it's on mulch so you have to bring like fucking 20 sheets of wood.

1:22:23So you're carrying wood and then you're, I'm cutting the knobs off the rail. I try it for four hours. Don't make it the next day. This is also towards the end of the trip. The next day, I'm like, all right, last trip, last day, let's go back and try it. We pull up there's soccer practice and like kids everywhere on the playground. So it's just like, we set the wood up and we just kind of hang out and like talk to the parents. And they're like, yeah, don't come on Thursday. It's soccer practice. Try it again and then four hour battle again and then I landed it. Wow. That might be the hardest one.

1:22:56Yeah, I don't know. That longest time consumed on one trick, that one was pretty fucking hectic.

1:23:04Davis Torgerson:I had to do a double take when I watched the part for the first time just to make sure it was you. Rewind it because I'd never even seen you do a switch tray on flat. I'm like, and you went back to switch? I'm like, where did that knowledge come from? Impressive. Yeah. That was G code i was surprised myself i was like god damn i don't even know who i was at that point i was like what that seriously might be like the the only fucking switch trick i've ever documented in a video part well that's a hell of a one yeah that's why it was so surprising i'm like what the fuck and then drove the next day back to long beach and then got invited to street league brazil bought a flight dropped stuff off at my house drove to lax flew to brazil skated the contest and then flew back home.

1:23:49Damn. It was a good day. I was like, this is crazy. Yeah. Your boy, Eric Sprague, said you lived in his trailer at one point and has a theory that maybe that was rock bottom for when you decided to get sober. Said a few other pro skaters have actually lived there and are now all sober. Yeah. Do you believe there's any truth to this theory? I think because I was not sober when I was partying in that thing. so I remember him saying you're looking for a place I'm going to Asia for fucking six months take over the the RV otherwise I'm just gonna have to pay someone or something to to park it and he uh he said it will suck but you will learn a lot of things about yourself and perhaps maybe even a new craft I don't know enjoy it and if things get tough you just turn it on and go and I was just like yeah fuck yeah let's do it so I did live in the RV for six months and eventually I figured out how to like run everything and was able to like feel comfortable but I was still partying but there were definitely moments where it's like fuck I never want to live in an RV ever again you know like how do I fucking keep my shit together so I never end up in this fucking thing ever again parking it getting kicked out of places tickets like it was just like fuck this thing i would say it could have potentially put the thought into my head like hey you got to get your shit together this is not good but i i was still in that like phase of partying where i was just like fuck it this is gonna be a good time you know we're getting an opportunity to just live in an rv and it's cool whatever but anyway so after he after he got back home and you know I gave him the RV back and stuff I would say within like a year or two is when I I went sober so could have been the catalyst yeah it was fun I had a good time in that RV

1:25:52Davis Torgerson:so it wasn't quite the the rock bottom but no it got worse for sure yeah well sober now and fucking killing it look at this these video parts man congrats thank you um You've done two bike fundraisers. What were the causes and how'd they go? When I first stopped partying, I just didn't know what the fuck I was going to do with my life. Because I had always like, even when I was like 14, I was at a party house. When I was 16, I was partying. But I was never like going super crazy. And until I got crazy and then I had to fucking, I hit rock bottom there. and then was like, all right, I'm going to be sober.

1:26:39Now, what the fuck do you do when you're sober? When all you've known is party, hang out, like interactions, like what the fuck? So I got a bike and I started doing like 10 mile bike rides. And then eventually that turned into like 40 mile, 50 mile, 60 mile, like, you know, and then it just became a thing. So it was like, I'd wake up, I'd do a morning yoga class. and then I would go on like a you know 20 plus mile bike ride go skate work on an art project fucking whatever you know you start to figure out how to fill these slots of time that were once consumed by partying and like meeting people and just meaningless conversations and pointless love affairs you know it was just like a whole bunch of fucking bunch of dumb shit so then it's like, how do I apply positive to it?

1:27:30And with that, um, Oliver Flores, who also is sober and biking saved his life because it, it gave him that sense of what I would imagine is stillness. And like, you really are present and appreciate everything around you. So I hit him up and was like, Hey, I would love to do this bike ride from San Francisco to, to Long Beach. And he, he had already done it. You know, it was like one of the first things that he had done when he found that he loved biking and it was the thing that saved him. So the idea for the first fundraiser was for this afterschool skate program in Compton. And the idea was ride seven days, you know, camp, you could buy shirts, you can do all these things and all the money goes to this foundation.

1:28:25And it sucks because I can't remember the name of the foundation right now. But it's in Compton. We decided to do San Francisco, mapped it out, whatever. And then San Francisco was on fire, completely burning down. Like there was places that like bike paths, like there was no way of doing it. The air quality was dog shit. So we decided to switch it to phoenix in the summertime so instead of it actually being the trees and everything on fire you're on fire so so we drove we we drove out to phoenix and then we rode our bikes back and there was a follow car and that follow car was uh driven by our friend phil pretty much was just like hey you need uh meet us at this spot you know we're driving we're riding 75 miles meet us at this location so he would wait or someone like oliver who's prone to injury and fucking plot twist he would be there to pick oliver up and oliver is the most plot twist dude ever that day that trip took seven out seven days and we raised about i think nine thousand dollars for this after school skate program and then also we're able to re uh skate light all their ramps and build a new obstacle for them.

1:29:40Amazing. And with that bike trip, I listened to Miley Cyrus every morning and I got a Miley Cyrus tattoo to remember the bike trip.

1:29:51That escalated quickly. My thigh, yeah. The second bike trip was the San Francisco one, and that was for the Ben Ramers Foundation for Mental Health Awareness. And that was an eight-day bike trip with Kirchart, Bragg, um fucking our friend adrian like we had like a solid squad this time the hiker biker law so any campsite you pull up to like if you hiked there or rode your bike there it's like five dollars or free so we stayed at these epic fucking campsites that people were had been on a list for you know two years like in the sequoias just beautiful and then riding like over like cliff side and big sir and it was fucking crazy and just getting to spend time with like heath and everybody on those trips.

1:30:38It's nice and it really brings you to the current moment. With that one, we were able to raise$10 ,000 to the Ben Ramirez Foundation. Congrats, man. That's an awesome achievement. Epic, man. Love to hear it.

1:30:53Davis Torgerson:Speaking of Miley Cyrus, Miley or Billie Eilish, man? Oh, Miley. What is this question? Why would it be Billie? I don't know I like Billie Eilish but like so you do like both I like both yeah but if I was to like if one if I had the opportunity and they were like hey you're fucking dope like let's bang I'd go with Miley wow I didn't I don't even know what the hell I was asking there and apologies I forget which one of your homies said to ask that but I didn't think that's where we're going with that. I thought we were talking about, you know, music, musical talent, but artistry. Okay. We'll take that.

1:31:42Davis Torgerson:Miley on both. Miley, Miley.

1:31:48Okay. So throughout this interview, a name that always just keeps popping up is obviously Ryan Sheckler, man. He's been your good homie for years now. You guys shared a part in Etni's album. He's been a legend in the skate game since forever. Give us your best Sheck story, man. All right. This would be my rock bottom. So we were doing a tour. I'll make this quick. We had a Stormtrooper RV, like tour bus. The tour bus driver was the original Selena's driver, already off to a crazy start the mini fridge was always filled with booze which i loved at that time and uh i unfortunately was told before that trip that my mom had been diagnosed with leukemia oh fucking hell didn't tell anybody the only time that i ever felt like i was drinking out of pure sadness was this moment so i would always be kind of buzzed and during this trip we were always doing such cool shit like the whole idea of the sheckler foundation is to give back you know be the change that's like their their whole thing we would go to uh new orleans donate 10 grand or 20 grand whatever the fuck it was to the diy like they put all their own money into it like they could do as they will with the money and then it's like we're going to chalk hospital and like skating and hanging out with kids that are literally on their deathbeds and this entire time I'm slightly buzzed the entire trip and we're doing all this cool fucking shit and like you know you're seeing these kids like not even had a moment in their life to live and they're already dying it's fucked on top of that knowing that my mom had been diagnosed with leukemia I was just like this is fucked so anyways the trip goes on I'm just like downward spiral but like keeping it together we get to nashville tennessee sheckler gets a noticed as he does and we get a bottle service fucking table like the whole fucking nine like there's like girls like just like bringing bottles and doing their thing you know and i'm just like have i just don't give a fuck i just want to get like drugs and just get fucked up and just like kind of like go numb and not feel anything.

1:34:13So that's what I do. I ask one of the chicks for drugs. She gets them for me. I don't remember any of this. At this point, I've completely blacked out. And the dudes I got the drugs from were like some Russian dudes. Don't remember any of this. I got pushed to the ground and I tried to fight this Russian dude who had a gun and other Russian bros with him. And I was with Sheckler and like all these other people that were definitely down for those moments. They live for those moments to fuck people up or like, fuck yeah, we get to fight. They know how to do it. I was just being reckless and obnoxious.

1:34:53Sheckler handled everything, pretty much talked to those dudes, saved my life. I don't remember what else happened throughout that night. And then he pretty much was just like, the next morning, I was just like, or I found drugs in my pocket because I never remembered having these things. And then did until the sun came up and further on and then went and met everyone for breakfast. It was just like, he was the one that I talked to about being like, hey, this is what's going on. And he had my back then. And he was just like, whatever you need, I'm here for you. And pretty much like said, you're not going home.

1:35:29You're flying straight to my house. And you're going you know, pretty much start fresh. So the best story, that would be my best story is having him be so supportive and having my back, obviously through our whole friendship. But like this moment in particular was like very sincere and it wasn't on some skate shit. It was like on some brother shit. And it sucks that it was obviously like a sobbing story. But do you want a happier one?

1:35:57Davis Torgerson:No, that's a beautiful story, man. That's a great story, man. Yeah. Yeah. He's just always had my back. he's always had my back and like he does so much fucking cool cool shit for like just the community and and not even just skating like there's so much stuff that he has his hands in and you're just like you're the fucking coolest dude ever he doesn't need to be doing the shit that he does skating because he does all this other stuff but he loves it he does it for his soul you know that's awesome that's great yeah i mean skateboarding like you were saying before about drinking there's a lot of surface level relationships out there but you gotta have some real ones to like you know not just lose yourself and the fakeness of it all it's good that you got shex he saw me in the moment you know where i was like i could have easily just been written off like that dude was fucking crazy you know yeah but it was just like no that's my fucking dog so hell yeah what an awesome story um all right well on that note what's next for david reyes man fucking we're more than halfway through the year like i said sody contention you got some more shit up your sleeve what's next there's a lot that goes into that stuff like you need a cover which i haven't had so the goal would be somehow there's four fucking mags left it's like by the grace of God, if I got a fucking cover, that would be awesome.

1:37:26And then obviously try to, I'm working on putting something out in November to come out with, whether it's with, you know, slappy or if it's thrasher or spitfire, like whatever it might be just trying to like, I've never been in this position where I have footage that I feel is like after a part, like that I put out and then having footage left over and stuff that I've been filming where I'm just It's like, damn, I actually have a chance to put a second part out, which is crazy because I've never done that in a year especially. So the next goal would be putting a video part out, another one.

1:38:03Davis Torgerson:And getting a cover. And getting a cover. Let's go, man. Rooting for you, G. Yes, sir. Yeah. Let's fucking do it. We'll see what happens. Crazier things have happened. Like I told you, there's always a plot twist. So we'll see what the fuck happens. There is. Plot twist me onto the cover. Yeah, thank you.

1:38:27Davis Torgerson:I feel the heat from here. Yo, yo, yo. It's Rapid Fire with the Ghost. And this week, we're honored to be brought to you by Real Skateboards. Real Slickboards have become a go-to across the team, with the Shod, K-Walks, Pat, and Jack Skate in them regularly. Why? Because Real has refined the Slickboards. These aren't the fiberglass slick boards your dad grew up with. Reel starts with its traditional Canadian Maple 7-ply R1 construction, then heat fuses a polymer slick layer to the bottom, reducing friction on slides. The fused slick layer also takes more views, helping the board keep its pop and feel fresh longer.

1:39:08Davis Torgerson:Reel is always putting out new slicks, and the latest is Ashad's Kitten Scratch 8.3 Twin Tail. Find them at your local skate shop, including boardroom, working class, nine times in Canada, and impact, select, and civil in the States. All right, David. I hope you're ready. I hope you're prepared. We're going to get a little rapid fire popping. You good? I think so. All right. Favorite skater? Heath Kershaw. Favorite video? Overall video, I would say from start to finish, that is just the best video ever would have to be Stay Gold. Favorite video part? Leo in Stay Gold, Kerchardt in Side Unseen.

1:39:58Lovely.

1:39:59Davis Torgerson:Favorite style? Leo Romero. Which skater had the biggest influence on the way you skate? Keith Kerchardt. Most talented skateboarder on planet Earth? Leo Romero. Favorite trick? a 50 50 just on a flat around flat bar oh hardest trick for you i mean switch hard flip it's like the hardest fucking trick ever fucking anything switch flip trick down stuff impossible you know so it's funny you said that about that being your first switch trick you filmed i remember i gave your boy brayden a hard time when he dropped the part because there was no switch or nollie in there really i was like i need a little more diversity yeah everything was regular but i never noticed that with you i would do like fakey fakey stuff to manuals and whatnot but and look like i was skating switch right most illegal trick i mean fucking cross locks cross lock 50 50s yo yeah that back 50 pop the sidewalk you did oh gee no cross baby yeah no cross yeah love it that's another thing of you just being like old school with it heels man that or heel flip backboard well i've never heard that one but it definitely adds up to fakie looks cool because it's like a front heel but yeah no one needs to see that trick agreed switch heel backboards not the greatest either but like i feel like keelan and you're looking like a switch front heel which is kind of dope yeah if you actually get like the fold part where it's like what at but yeah there there's just some things that shouldn't be done but it's it's cool to know how to do them and then be able to talk shit on them and then when they're like can you even do it and then you do it yeah real shit favorite clip you've ever gotten front side flip fakie 50 the mini table sick that was one of those nuts i was like holy shit how did I get up there?

1:42:04Davis Torgerson:Was that album? That was in my thank you part. Thank you part. Gnarliest trick you've ever witnessed. I can go with recently. It would just be this grind that Brayden did. It was fucked. I don't know. My squad is hectic. They do crazy shit all the time, you know, so I'm just like, it's hard to pinpoint one. I can pinpoint a session and I would say the gnarliest one was that Leo session where he just fucking went the fuck off on that batman bench it was crazy what's the one trick that got away for like a few years i tried backheel fakie 50 on a mini table and and almost got that one but that one definitely went away and then the one that hurts my soul most was i definitely got close to three flip nose blunting oh my god the big ass one the big one but it's not but was that after i don't know was that after clipper?

1:43:01Legitly did clipper and then that week started trying Oside Hub. I was like, it's hot.

1:43:07Davis Torgerson:That's like a sickness in your brain, bro. Yeah. Especially the battle that was clipper. Are you crazy? Yeah, and I went there like 10 times to Oside. So, yeah. Wow. That's actually insane. Those two definitely keep me up at night. I'm just like, fuck.

1:43:28Davis Torgerson:What's the... biggest bunt you've ever witnessed when i was younger i'll make this brief i lied about back salad grinding this tensor rail and i was like i did it you know and i i wanted to be like proven wrong so that i would have to try it i was like fucking 11 and i they took me there to prove it and I never jumped on it. So I'll just throw myself under the bus and be like, that's the biggest bus I've ever witnessed. Wow, that's great. That's great. What's the last new trick you learned? I probably should learn some new tricks. If anything, I'm trying to relearn tricks that I once knew how to do.

1:44:19So like Nolly 180 flips. At one point, I was able to do those down stuff and i was just like it would be really cool to know how to nollie 180 flip again so i'm just kind of relearning an old trick there's a dent on my sword and he's sharpening

1:44:33Davis Torgerson:and it's that okay choice trick janelski shout out it's the one i think of always so fucking good in soft years the one down the 10 in san francisco so fucking good just all yeah dream job after skating i wouldn't even consider it a dream a dream job seems so that's a hard question i would probably end up doing like construction or something and that's not even like a dream job that's just like what i've learned through skating is how to fix things i feel like i'd be a good agent you know i feel like i'd be a good agent with like sports agent or something i don't know okay let's get it dope jerry yeah i feel like i I'd be good at it.

1:45:20Davis Torgerson:Favorite local brand. Dakota Serval's brand, Sophie. It's a clothing brand. Like 303 would be like a cool one to appreciate, you know, or be my favorite. I'm just saying you just happen to be in the house that created slappy trucks, but that's okay. There's a set here. They're just everywhere, you know? Favorite local skater. In Colorado would be Keenan Hinton. he's really fucking sick and then uh ace furlong is another one those two are fucking jackson this this kid alex who we call flex like the squad in colorado is like evolving and those three are fucked oh yeah like so talented and just like just cool dudes so what's the one sponsor you regret writing for?

1:46:13Aside from like all the memories and stuff like it's it's hard to think of like pinpoint one so like there really isn't a regret of writing for anyone but perhaps like the circumstances of like how it ended or like you know I would probably be at least you know just like filming that video was fucking rough and then like the way like I got kicked off and all my friends got kicked off and then they still put the video out but like 80 percent of us weren't even on anymore it was crazy i would go with that yeah that sounds shit favorite teammate ever leo dakota braden jeremy like the the whole fucking brothers of hellfire squad worst teammate ever fucking forest edwards

1:47:04and it's not that he was actually terrible it was more that one time I was sleeping and he was standing above me and spitting evil into my dreams. Dane walked out and saw him staring at me and he was like, hey, what are you doing? He was just talking to me while I was sleeping, pretty much talking shit to me because I was telling him of all these spots we'll go to tomorrow. But that day we had a Go Skate Day event. So it was like, the day is a wash off. It's done. A write I think he just got drunk and just started getting all fucking crazy, but also like mental issues, you know? So, but I would say that was a scary moment because I was fucking sleeping.

1:47:53So like, you don't know what can happen in that, like that, that scenario. That's like, so fucking I'm good on that.

1:48:00Davis Torgerson:Is he on zero? He's not. No. Okay. Where's company? I don't want to hate on like underdogs, you know, because everyone's just trying to do it. But I don't know. I mean, like Edge Lord is weird. And then it's like, you know, like, but it's like the editing maybe is weird. Maybe I just don't vibe with it. I don't know. And then you have like, a lot of new age shit is kind of weird to me. But I just don't get it. Dude, Edge Lord is getting eviscerated this season. I mean the video it was fucking I didn't get it I was like this is terrible

1:48:41worst trend that style of editing in the editor video or like doubling down I mean the fucking oversized shorts is crazy half-ass skating being praised that's fucking whack you know i would probably i'd probably go more with that just like really low standard skating being praised because it's relatable i think that's fucking stupid

1:49:12oh yeah good for you man speak this fucking truth dog yeah honestly hey it's all good if

1:49:20Davis Torgerson:you're pushing yourself and it just happens to be a lower level if that's you're maxed out but it's He's like, not skating hard. I fully am against it. I think there's a separation of this is a professional skateboarder and this is why. Versus this is now a professional skateboarder and I don't see why. You know? You're right. That's weird to me. Some shit ain't adding up. It just ain't adding up. But this is the problem when you have so many companies that you can't even name them all. They all need a team. They all need pros. And it's bros. I get it. It's a mess. That's why it's hard to pinpoint like you're a shitty or like your least favorite company because everyone's just trying to do it.

1:50:08And we all have the same thing that we love. Any company can just pop up and sell on the fucking internet. They don't need to be sold in stores. They don't need distro. They don't need anything. And they all know how to get boards now and heat transfer it. And it's all out there. You can look this shit up. Yeah, they could just come around for six months and then they're gone, dude. I'm about to turn myself pro tomorrow, man.

1:50:29Davis Torgerson:It's been too long, dude. What are you waiting for? Just write my name. What are you waiting for? Go on down. Yeah. It's just an oversaturated market and I get it. Yeah. But back in the day, like it would be hard to go pro. You had to prove yourself forever to go pro. Nowadays, it's like, fuck you, bro, man. Everyone's pro. We'll just AI every graphic, dude. Yeah, who's doing that? What brand is doing that? Who? There are. There are. This is your interview. Who's doing it, man? Man, I don't know. Probably Edgelord. Oh! I thought you were going to drop another one. No, I've actually never seen an Edgelord board.

1:51:10In the wild? Just in general, yeah. I don't even know what their graphics look like.

1:51:14Davis Torgerson:All right, two more, man. Yeah. Worst style. Fuck. As I wear these headphones, I would probably go with Nikolai Pumbaa or whatever his last name is. Oh, my God. That's the homie. That's the homie. That's friendly fire for us. It hurts. Hey, he's a nice dude, but God damn. Hey, we don't censor motherfuckers, even if it's our homies. That's to each their own. Yeah, hey. I'm sure I'm on so many people's list that cannot wait to get on the butt. I never heard you once, to be honest with you, dude. Well-respected in the game. I've always kept my mouth shut. I've never wanted to deal with confrontation, but it's all fun and games.

1:52:04Davis Torgerson:It's not the biggest deal. Maybe you guys will be the next Mike Carroll, Daniel Wheatley back and forth because we still got to get Nikolai on for a random skater. You know, then he claps back. Then David comes on, claps back again. Circle of violence. Nikolai, let's run Random Skater back, man. Last time I was fucked up, man. I was pissed. But anyways, Nikolai's a beast. Last but not least, who's the last person you want on the sesh? Oh, man. I hate this. I would say TJ Rogers You gonna go Nikolai And then our brother This guy went three for three Just right at us Oh my god We waited a long time for this interview And to end it like this It's crazy You went for the hat trick Straight at us Anyway, TJ hasn't done random skater either So we'll get him and Nikolai on back-to-back David clapbacks.

1:53:14I mean, there's a thing that was pretty pity. And I don't think that I should be pity. But I'm going to just be pity there and just leave it at. Last person on a sesh would be TJ Rogers. Petty? That's it. Yeah, petty. Petty. Okay. He was petty. Okay. I'll have to call Teej tomorrow to the bottom of this one. This is crazy, bro. This guy hit the trifecta. I really wonder if he even knows what he did, but we'll see.

1:53:47Davis Torgerson:We shall. All right. We shall. On that crazy note, that was crazy. I was with TJ last weekend, man. Shouts to my bro. Love you, TJ. I literally just saw him in Denver. Oh, my God. Yeah. He was going to Denver a couple days after I left. Crazy. Yeah. Well, David, man, thank you. We're cordial. We're cordial. for coming on the show, telling your truth. Absolutely epic interview, man. The details, the stories, you killed it. Thank you again, man. Fuck yeah, thanks for having me. Good luck the rest of the year, man. Keep shredding. Love to see it. Love this later in life for a skateboarder fucking resurgence from thank you to now on a tear.

1:54:31Davis Torgerson:Keep it going, man. Dude. Keep the wardens away. Your squad is one of the best in skating, man. You guys do an exceptional job. Thank you. The last of the Mohicans. You got it.

1:54:51Welcome back to Random Skater of the Week, the fastest growing segment on YouTube, hosted by our good friend Davis Torgerson and brought to you by Mob Grip, the number one choice of professional skateboarders worldwide. And the reason is simple. It's just the goddamn grippiest, man. This week in the Terror Dome, as Davis likes to say, Big Cat's here, man. What's cracking, man? How's it going, guys? Chilling, chilling, chilling. You ready for this? I don't think I've ever asked. I don't know. I feel like this might go bad. What's up, Davis?

1:55:24Davis Torgerson:Do you say your last name, Faf? Paf. Paf. Yeah. Which I'm sure just got mispronounced somewhere along the way because it's super German. And so I'm sure it used to be Faf. But somewhere around Ellis Island, it changed the path. They just forgot there was that F in there. Yeah. There's just like, oh, it's a five letter name with three Fs. We can skip the first one. It's a five letter name. Let's just skip two of them and make it three letters that you actually pronounce. Exactly. Yeah. Yeah. Your last name is fucked up. Yeah. Big cat. No, we were talking about the rules. you've seen a couple um yeah but what how would you rank yourself i mean dude you are a judge and have been a judge for many years and a lot of contests what would you rank your skate nerd knowledge i don't know like it's not that i don't know skate nerd knowledge it's just like there i for sure have like gaps of information like shit that i should know that i don't like and then I can be real in the weeds on other shit, you know?

1:56:33It's like on a one to five, maybe like

1:56:37Davis Torgerson:three and a half. So seven out of ten? Seven out of ten. That's pretty good. And you know what? I've spent enough time with him. I would concur that that's probably accurate. I mean... What did you give Sefa before? Seven point something. So him and Stimmy are like equals. What's your guy's record? on records like what yeah what's your record on winning these do you count it as like the two of you versus me or no it's usually me and the guests versus seifa i like to call it got it okay me and everyone else versus seifa no street league clues today man she okay okay ooh the winner of the winner of the 2023 super crown no i'm just kidding uh records we should do that i have the graphic but yeah we can do that donald's won 13 times say has won 31 times and the guests have won 25 times damn so me and the guests are winning we out here so you and the guests are winning that's what i thought yeah say is fucking slacking damn um sky i know you've seen a couple but basically i'm just gonna be listing off clues to a random skater one skater you all get three guesses you can blurt them out at any time you can ask questions first one to guess it guesses the skater wins okay um That's it.

1:58:01Davis Torgerson:Shall we? Let's do this, Scott. Yeah, we got business. Yeah, let's go, Donna. Some bullshit. Let me wake up over here. All right. Scott and Donna, previous teammates of this random skater include Reese Forbes, Natas Kowpas, Fox 6, and Ricky Ayola. Ayola? Ayola? Were they all teammates on the same brand? I'm not going to specify, but the idea is it's board and shoe companies only, and it usually is very varied companies from different times, between boards and shoes. So it just could be, it's a board or shoe company for all of them. Got it, Doc. Okay. I'm not feeling good already about this. Who are they again?

1:58:57Ricky Nottis and Reese. Yeah.

1:59:03Davis Torgerson:This skater's very first sponsor was Z Roller Trucks. Some old head. It's an ancient skater. Damn. Poor guy. Just got called ancient. Just caught astray. Yeah.

1:59:29Davis Torgerson:this skater skated for a board brand based out of winona minnesota for me that's pretty cool it's not for anyone else i wonder if rothmeyer already has it um i bet you roth he probably does yeah probably does I mean everyone in Winona, Minnesota knows it

1:59:58Davis Torgerson:this skater shared a part with Matt Moffitt

2:00:05Davis Torgerson:I'm trying to be disrespectful this skater turned pro for Santa Cruz this is rapid fire clues right here I think you need them because none of them are helping yep it'll get somewhere Santa Cruz y 'all know this skater for sure uh I hope so he's never led us astray that far yeah this skater also shared a part with Pat Shinita remember him Trey flips switch front heels all day every day he just dropped a part man He like drops a video every week, doesn't he? I think he dropped like it might have been a 50 years old part or 49 or something. 50 for 50. Shout out, Pat Shinita. This skater shared a part with him.

2:01:07Davis Torgerson:This skater had a part in a video that also had a Steve-O section. And I say section because it's not like Steve-O had a part. But essentially Steve-O had a part. And this skater also had a part in the same video.

2:01:29Davis Torgerson:Nothing yet, huh? No early maybes. I mean, I feel like the one where that takes you is too obvious to be right. He didn't go pro for sandhangers. Yeah. True.

2:01:47You never know. The first clue made me think like Element D, East Coast something. But anyways, okay. Okay.

2:01:57Davis Torgerson:This skater has skated to Black Sabbath two times.

2:02:06Hmm. Damn. Nope.

2:02:13Davis Torgerson:Yeah. Just, I love the like. I love no no I love the just like hmm yeah fuck no no yeah I try to act like it then just like nope it's not that doesn't help the person I want to guess I think has already been the answer to one of these that's where I always fuck up you get three guesses do you guys ever repeat an answer? and I don't think we will we've guessed it again but he's never done the same skating twice got it i do need to start sharing the list with the people that we have on huh yeah see that's that's a home team advantage you guys got but when i say i everyone has the access to the uh google drive to six hours of watching all the old episodes yeah well you don't you don't remember you watched all 90 episodes like why did you have to ask our record i'm offended this skater had a guest board for the heated wheel what the heated wheel is that a brand for wheel yeah okay

2:03:24Davis Torgerson:yeah yeah okay let's move let's let's move past all the vague ones this skater had a profiles in 411 issue 33 not super it's like I had all those but I'm bad with like which one was in which episode

2:03:49Davis Torgerson:it would be really impressive to name the skater from 411 issue 33 profiles that would be that feels like some Kelly hard shit where he'd be like oh fucking that'd be pretty nerdy nerdy. Okay, moving along. We're starting to get somewhere. This skater shared another part with Darren Navarrete. The vertical vampire.

2:04:18Davis Torgerson:That was your teammate, right? Is it Mike V? Not Mike V. My teammate? That's a good guess, though. Darren Navarrete? On what? nevermind I don't want to lead you astray here but he is from Minnesota so yeah he's my teammate um we talked about and Darren Navarat and Black Sabbath a couple times feels like we're pointing somewhere yeah maybe maybe we talked about um Pat Janita 50 something putting out a part this skater put out a part after turning 50 years old

2:05:07Davis Torgerson:wait this is too random i don't think it's this one but i'm gonna throw it out anyways chad benson damn that's so sick that you guessed chad benson it's not chad benson but i almost want to give you half a point i don't know who chad benson is either Yeah, that was local pro from Minnesota. Don't disrespect the legend. Is this random pro skater or just some dude who's owned a skateboard? Don't disrespect this to pro pro. Davis, I hope you're offended too. I don't know skater we've ever done. I obviously remember him because I had the same last name, but he's got to switch trace too. He put out a bang in parts.

2:05:51Legend. Who is the most random skater you've ever done, Davis?

2:05:56Davis Torgerson:Big Cat with the disrespect. I feel bad now. Owned escape world? You know what? I bet you Chad's going to watch this too. Yeah. Shout out to you. I meant no disrespect. Hey, stay guested, Chad. I don't know if you know who he was. Those clues line up to Chad Benson. That was the most random guess. I knew it wasn't because I knew you wouldn't go. What clues led you to Chad Benson? He dropped a part at 50. He did drop a part at 50. Darren Everest from Minnesota. Board brand based in Winona, Minnesota. So he went with an OG Minnesota skater. I respect that. Wait, how many guesses do you have left?

2:06:38Davis Torgerson:Two. I burned one for the love of my boy Chad Benson. Yeah. Hey. That's awesome. It was worth it say. I think he had an ad back in the day, switch trading on a bank. Of course, you know I remembered that one. Oh, yeah. steep ass bang um okay grasso did an entire love letters to skateboarding episode on this skater oh shite that's like when you get a love letters episode just on you that's big you did something

2:07:17damn oh i hate this feeling i'm so i got something big cat

2:07:24Davis Torgerson:i got the opposite of i got the opposite of something um this skater has done the loop

2:07:37Davis Torgerson:i mean might not like scream the skater's name but Again, that's quite the accomplishment.

2:07:48Yeah. Dude.

2:07:51Davis Torgerson:Okay, this skater, some of the clothing sponsors that this skater has skated for are XYZ. I knew it. Dickies and Volcom.

2:08:13Dude, I don't want to go down to one guest. It's so early.

2:08:17Davis Torgerson:Oh, man. This is crazy.

2:08:27Is it Max Schaff?

2:08:32Davis Torgerson:No, it's not. I'm sorry. Okay. Dono's down to one guest left. Scott still has all three yeah cause I don't have a fucking clue yet we're gonna peer pressure you don't let them peer pressure you I mean this is going back but it's a pretty historic video this skater had a part in Santa Cruz's reason for living when did that come up 1990 fuck three years old yeah yeah I was seven like yeah yeah I know I know this skater shared a part with Frank Gerwer

2:09:40Davis Torgerson:And it's gonna be such an obvious legend when we get there. I feel bad. That part was also that was Very fair No, that's what I mean, but like The shared part was gonna be someone with like so much history that like there's so much random history to it They're like what the fuck like even though you fully know who it is you're like the hell like It's been cooking lately that uh that shared part with Frank was in 2014 Oh, shit.

2:10:17Davis Torgerson:This skater lost one of their sponsors when an interview surfaced. An interview surfacing. It was an interview in a skateboard magazine. And that corporate company received multiple complaint emails. And this skater lost their sponsor. The corporate company?

2:10:48Davis Torgerson:damn that just makes it's not a guess it just makes me think of ryan galant i don't know typical skate shit yeah um this skater won best transition skater at the 2009 trans world awards

2:11:07Davis Torgerson:fucking you gave me a transition skater Maybe Share it apart with Pat Junita dude come on Who did you really want to do this because you gave me like 20 minutes notice I gave you like 3 hours ago dude Yeah like Nah I knew I could get A long episode out of this one I gave you this Skater because you were worthy of The challenge Yeah you were worthy of the challenge Uh-huh. Okay, we're going to start getting into it here. The skater skates for antihero. Currently?

2:11:49Currently? Who's always that team? Nope. Fuck, we almost had it. We. Shit. That's incredible.

2:12:04Davis Torgerson:And almost as an instant nope. Yeah, that's alright. This is so out of my wheelhouse. Give me something that speaks to me. Is it? Okay, damn it, I don't want to go down to one already. I would say already. Okay, good, I was going to be wrong anyway. It's time to go down to one. No, I would have been wrong. I'm glad I had a second to double click. This skater had a Love Letters to Skateboarding episode based all about them. This skater had an episode of Matters Apps's Skate Tales based all about them. Probably. That's crazy. Now I feel hella disrespectful.

2:12:49Davis Torgerson:Are they like long-time anti-hero guy? Yeah, long-time anti-hero. Damn it.

2:13:00Davis Torgerson:Are they in fucktards? I mean, yeah. Fuck. Okay, there's no reason I shouldn't get this. Come on. You're gonna find the name and be like... Come on, one more clue before he finds it. I'm Tony Trujillo. I'm starting to create clues. It is not TNT. See if it's down to one. I got one. How many of you got left? I got two in the tank. Yeah. Tony T. We're gonna have to get you to guess one to get you down. Holy shit. Um.

2:13:36Work, man What?

2:13:39Davis Torgerson:My brain I know Sorry, I am

2:13:45Davis Torgerson:Digging up clues Oh, we ran through your research already? Yeah, yeah This skater is from San Diego, California

2:13:59Davis Torgerson:Wait, what was the clue about like Winona, Montana or something? Winona, Minnesota That was a board brand that the skater skated for Back in the day Okay Okay This skater's Instagram is at Goon Sack What?

2:14:24Davis Torgerson:yeah this is so bad now it's disrespectful do you guys remember Vine? the app Vine? yeah yeah yeah it's like the precursor to TikTok mmhmm uh a group out of Atlanta did a very in the skate world famous Vine based on this skater where this skater's name sounds like the lyrics to a song oh the skater's name sounds like the wait say that again it's not there was there was an i'm i'm sorry i'm digging here um there was a i mean i remember seeing it um so it's super famous there was a famous vine of a crew doing a full doing a vine based off of this skater a photo of their magazine reciting the lyrics to a song but replacing the lyrics with the skater's name which the 50 year old part that i mentioned was the title of that video was the name was sort of the title of that song name but with the skater's name in it

2:15:42Davis Torgerson:next clue yeah all right rhyme his name with something yeah what was the song the song that i'm talking about is this is how we do it oh is it peter hewitt yeah that's peter hewitt fuck i don't know if that's a win no asterisk on that you got another one davis we gotta do this again you just you just shafted me for like 30 clues there sorry peter that was like that was like two hours of work right there um yeah i mean i will say i went into this one knowing that it would be a challenge and there was a lot of clues in the beginning that like you had to see the xyz video things like that personally i hadn't seen it so this is new for me yeah and like i saw it maybe when i was 12 like yeah 100 but it was peter hewitt so i was like all right it's worth doing it um yeah do you remember the vine this guy busted out the vine clue that's how you know do you remember the vine i know it's pretty and that didn't even work he had to say like this is what it rhymes with fucking chad benson all day man that's who it should have been it's true do you remember the vine though this is peter hewitt this is not even a little bit oh no davis bro i'm gonna send it to you all he could have given me 40 more clues.

2:17:08Davis Torgerson:I wasn't getting that. That name's not in my head. I won by default. You did. That's a win, dude. That's a win. This is the first one we ever did. You were like, this skater's name rhymes with St. Nicholas or something. Nick Jensen. Schmick Schmensen, he said. Oh, it got that bad on one? We were almost there. I mean, we essentially were there. We both knew Nick Jensen well and just fried that day i mean you know who peter hewitt is right yeah yeah of course of course right i just want to make sure that i'm not choosing a skater i mean schmick benson could almost been chad benson yeah peter hewitt was a stretch though peter hewitt's a stretch for our knowledge man but yeah what did he say in the mag to get kicked off yeah what did he get kicked off of no it was like corporate sponsor it was like selling weed it was typical skate shit and there was like just a random not skater guy or a bunch of guys i think it was mainly one guy that emailed corporate at nike because he skated for nike i think all of nike skateboarding at that time was like no no it's fine this is whatever who the hell would do that man i know someone who would do that yeah we all do that what read an email some guy who doesn't skate that's just like what this is bullshit yeah so that's insane fuck some good samaritan um good samaritan shit samaritan yeah fucking fucking snitch samaritan well uh scott aren't you happy i invited you on dude you gotta you gotta win yeah i totally like lived up to my fucking seven and a half dude you won the hardest that's probably the hardest one we've ever done that probably didn't even feel good to win that no it didn't zero celebration he basically he basically smick shvensoned me yeah to be able to get it all right everyone let him know what clue you got him or something i don't know like and subscribe or something yeah big cat legend thanks for coming dude of course guys yeah thank you no disrespect to chad benson you know what i know chad he'll be okay you've got mail welcome back to the post office ghost this shit is absolutely overflowing and we're running on zero energy so this is uh worst case scenario right now in the post office but let's get through as many as we can man who we got up first all right first up we got an email from isaiah downing a voice note let's take a listen what up boys checking in again southwest colorado love the new season say puss I got love for you bro but I don't understand the Drake hate from an outside perspective like before I started listening to your guys' podcast Drake is the only reason like he put y 'all city on you know and he's at the end of the day whether you like it or not one of the best selling artists of all time and he has good music and you know he has good music and like it's fair to be like he's not for me but just some of the hate you throw on him I feel like it's kind of the LeBron thing Like if you just hate on greatness You can just say that and that's fair But it makes no sense to me How someone like him, an icon Putting on for your city The king of your city as a matter of fact You can hate on him, that's all Also if you got time More Kawhi thoughts I'm so curious how you guys feel as Raptors fans I'm sorry Rae de de mi de mi bro you need to chill with all that brother uh it's actually funny johnny purcell staying with me right now just uh asked him how it was last night he went to the dawn was it dawn over yeah concert and he said drake came out he said it's the loudest he's ever heard a crowd in his entire life he's damn right it was women shrieking to the point where it was actually hurting his ears so i know i know he's you know a mega fucking what's the word without praising him like he's he's a he's a big star all right um it was bigger than that dude you can find a better word than big star that's not enough it's not my guy and i don't hate on greatness i happen to not be a lebron fan or a drake fan what do you think about tom brady uh i came around on tom brady you know this when When I first started watching football, it was just fun to root against him.

2:21:43Davis Torgerson:But by the end of his career, I was just in awe watching him. And tremendous respect. Steph Curry, Kobe Bryant, Jordan. There's so many great athletes and entertainers out there that I love. So I'm sorry if it – Is there one singular rapper that you think is bigger than Drake? Because you cannot like him. But you just have to know that he is the biggest star. I don't even consider him a rapper, though. That's like, you know. But he raps. He does it all. He's just like a fucking, he's just a performer. Like, Ethel's a chameleon, too. He changes up so often. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't like that. Like, from record to record.

2:22:23Davis Torgerson:When I think about rappers, I think about dudes like fucking Jadakiss. You know what I mean? Okay, well, he, the art form. I'm not saying he's bigger. I'm just saying when I think rap, I think, like, more core. Yeah, this guy is like a Madonna, Taylor Swift. Yeah. Like that big. He's definitely not just a rapper. Exactly. He raps, but I don't consider him. I always thought he would start acting, like eventually. I'm actually shocked that he hasn't to this point. You mean start again? Bring wheelchair Jimmy back? Or like maybe a new role. He would have been sick on power, man. They should have slid him into power at some point.

2:23:06Davis Torgerson:yeah anyways i don't need more drake but uh what was the second question there kawaii leonard more thoughts on what are the thoughts man get him over here yeah i don't know where that's at actually yeah and kind of out of the loop but i think they came out and said that they're not going to do anything to him so i'm sure it will it'll happen at some point yeah i'm personally very excited i know there's mixed feelings on it but i think it just raises our ceiling and of course i'm not against that. So let's, let's try and get to the conference finals and see what can happen. All right. Next up, we've got an email from Ralph.

2:23:43Hi, Donovan and Sefa. Been a while stoked on the new season, gradually catching up after a long, hot summer. Listening to Snyder's episode jogged my memory to rewatch digital, get tricks or die trying and appreciate it more with time. Are there any old videos you have forgotten and reappreciated years later? Also, any advice to people working on current videos to make them classics finally here in europe the heat has been no joke but i know canada suffered too i hope you and your people were safe keep up the good work

2:24:23i mean there's hundreds this is like what is this list yeah it's any video man that we enjoyed as kids one that i need to go back and watch actually two the two that i grew up on fulfill the dream and Misled Youth, those deserve a rewatch for sure.

2:24:39Davis Torgerson:Front to back.

2:24:44Davis Torgerson:That's tough. There's too many. I can't even. I'd say the on videos, man. Whenever I want to sit down and watch some skating and re-appreciate that era, I love the on videos. So I'll search those up on YouTube. I feel like I watched Bagus suck front to back in the last couple months and that's always a great rewatch but I also don't feel like I just like forget about videos don't appreciate them anymore at least the classics like that but what was part 2 of that part 2 was how do you make a video a classic and I think it's just the soundtrack man nowadays a lot of skating is good obviously there's there's still levels but like re-watchability on a part is all based on the song for me yeah and let's not forget the filming too yeah um yeah editing filming music if you can nail those three um yeah i agree the skating the level of skating can vary but if you nail those three your likelihood of a classic goes up for sure appreciate the email man all right next up we got an email from joel wright filming yo bump boys have either of you ever been the filmer in your crew uh when we were young we would pass the camera on and take turns filming any highlights from those days what's the best thing you can remember filming and if tomorrow the usual filmer went down who out of you two uh would be trusted to film the homies three trick line with the fish eye cheers joel from melbourne yeah i'll let you take it away i mean i was the filmer forever man i mean it felt like forever and honestly it felt like it would never change that i was destined to be the filmer, but highlights from those times, like, dude, we made a video, huh, back in, I think it was, like, 2005, premiered it at Shred Central, thanks to Jimbo and Esner, always had our backs as kids, and actually had a pretty good turnout, which was an insane vibe.

2:27:05Highlights from those days, man, those were, like, the golden days of our lives as kids, like zero rules, zero curfew, just sleepovers at whoever's house, skating late, getting up early.

2:27:23Dude, yeah, it didn't get better than that. Like what a childhood to look back on and think that that's what we did with our days. Go on little trips to like Montreal and stuff like that. Back and forth to Ottawa. Those times were the best. and then I think skating like progressed to three chip territory with the VX's came in and I never did that so this is what it is, never moved on, stuck with the one chip but I think the best thing I ever filmed and I think you talked about it last episode was the back to back with Grant Patterson Nolly 180 flip Nolly 180 flip down need to tell and then morgan switch front heel and then when we were filming huh morgan was also working on switch i think it was or maybe something else probably switch and i was so worried like if he was gonna let me use any or some of it and he he just was like if you filmed it you can use it and i was like damn that is an epic cosign and his part is insane skated to biggie in that video so definitely worth a watch yeah um on my end i can't say that i uh

2:28:43Davis Torgerson:i've probably filmed like three tricks you know back in those days i was definitely didn't have the patience for it like we always say hats off to all the skate filmers out there it's one yeah most thankless hardest jobs breaking your back all day for the homies especially when you're kids and not getting paid like you know it's one thing to become a professional skate filmer but when we're all young and shit someone's got a sacrifice for the crew um yeah so to answer the last bit there donna would be the one trusted to film a three trick line i will say though in the iphone era you know i take some pride in my in my angles You were great.

2:29:27Davis Torgerson:I've come up a little bit in that game. We know who we don't trust with the iPhone. Who's that? Ben and Aiden. Oh, yeah. Keep it out of their hands, bro. I think they do that on purpose, too. So that no one ever hits them. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Next up, we've got an email from Nicholas Frink. Sup, Bump Boys. Had a fun discussion with the skate homies a while back, and I'm curious on the answers you come up with. Concept is this. We name a trick and you name the skater in video part that is either the first thing that comes to mind or is a clip that lives rent-free in your head. All right, let's see.

2:30:11First one is back three.

2:30:16Davis Torgerson:Jeff Raleigh. Which one? Triple set. Okay, damn. That's good. Your brain works way different than mine. Mine works on most recent. So I would say Dwayne Anderson, back three, the five flat five. That's a great one. All right. Nose grind. Let me go first. Okay. Chris Roberts, nose grind. Oh, hell yeah. At the courthouse. Wow, my brain goes to gnarliest, but that's a great one. So fucking crazy. One of the craziest clips, man. Love that. Mine went to Gabbers on the Jeff Rowley rail. I can't remember what that spot's called. Dude, honorable mention. Colty Bears. Balance down the rail. Yeah. When I saw this email the other day, that was actually the one that popped into my head.

2:31:09No overcook in sight. Just straight nose grind a handrail. Alright, next one. Trey Flip.

2:31:20Davis Torgerson:Damn. Appliard. Mel 12? Oh, is it just specific? Not just a tray flipper? They want a clip. Specific? Let's go. Because on the pod when we had him on, he said his favorite clip was all time. Was that one that's just out of a bump, I think, in Australia. I don't know if you remember that. Extremely sorry. I don't think so. It's over like a spine kind of thingy. I don't know. Okay. It was insane. Mine would be Furby over the pyramid.

2:31:54that one's good um next up is backsmith

2:32:02Davis Torgerson:i'm going extremely recent biased zion right up oh up the rail at the bun jam a couple days ago i think on the first try he got up it looked like he was trying to back 180 out maybe and the one he did he almost like had his shoulders that way and then he was like nope and went straight, but it was just... It reminded me of Darrell Stanton, so that's my honorable mention. He always had my favorite dips on the big rails. I would say Noah Naif, who did that one around the sharp corner that was almost like front feeble in the middle. That thing was insane. I love that one. Manual combo of choice. What the hell?

2:32:52Davis Torgerson:what does that what does that mean i just like a manual combo i guess i'm not too sure i mean this one is just fresh in my head because it popped up on the feed the other day but keelan dad switch heel manny popped the gap switch flip out somewhere in europe just doesn't get any better execution wise yeah i'll say stevie williams knows manny to fakie manny fakie hard iconic back nose blunt it's gotta be Darrell that was the one of our childhood we idolized Darrell to have the cover to meet Darrell all of that Darrell Stinn I was actually gonna say Nick Dompier but I don't even know if he landed that one is it the ocean side hub like the giant one oh yeah I think he had the photo So, okay, let me think.

2:33:52Davis Torgerson:Back nose blunt. I mean, you went with the gnarly one. I'll go with the fucking classic staple. Our guy, Josh Kalis. Fire. Yeah. We're going to do two more because he has like a long list, but front nose blunt.

2:34:15Davis Torgerson:James Hardy. when he breaks his board. I think last trick or second last trick. Jack O 'Grady at the Bunt Jam. Did you see that? Top speed, man. So sick having Jack at the Bunt Jam. So sick. And then last one is Switch Trey. Brian Wenning over the garbage can at Love. Yeah. I'll say Stevie at Love on flat in the line. Perfect. All right. It's a funny note. Yeah. And he says, thanks, boys. Keep up the great work and hoping to see the Bunt video by the time this is out. Well, you didn't, unless you were at the Bunt Jam. But it will be out soon, maybe a couple weeks. We will keep you guys updated on that.

2:35:04Yeah.

2:35:05Davis Torgerson:Aiming for September 16th. But, yeah. All right. Next up, we got an email from Seb. Safe. Long time listener. First time writing in from Manchester, UK. On the topic of Sefa's accent, where's the top boy London accent gone to? Also, you work in production, right? What's your role and do you enjoy it? OK, real question here. If you had to pair pro skaters with their celebrity counterparts, who would you choose? Let me start off. So I've always thought of Heath Kurchart as Edward Norton. Mike Carroll has some Robert Downey Jr. qualities just in terms of look and attitude etc have some fun with it skaters and their celebrity counterparts dude I don't know about this man this isn't really like they don't like add up are we just like based off looks alone or like skill versus celebrity or look and attitude dude.

2:36:23Davis Torgerson:Mason Silva. Poncho Muller.

2:36:30Oh. Dude, I love Mason, man. He's the most serious human. This is tough off the top, man. Eric Costin.

2:36:43Davis Torgerson:Tiger Woods. oh there we go how about we start on the celebrity side and then just match it who's the Brad Pitt of skateboarding damn

2:36:58Davis Torgerson:Elijah bro how about we go Blake Carpenter and Tom Cruise you're just going off looks now that does not add up This is too hard, man. Let's keep it moving. Thank you for that email, man. And the accent comes out when we watch a fresh UK show and there hasn't been a new Top Boys done. So it's like, remember we would watch it and we would be talking like them for a couple weeks. We need a new UK banging show. If you have any, send them. All right, next up, we've got a voice note from Justin Rice. Let's take a listen. Hi guys, my name is Justin Riz and I'm from Columbus, Ohio. And I had a question for you guys, although I think Donovan, you might be the guy that can really answer this.

2:37:58But say five, really watch your input as well. So I've been listening to you guys for about nine years now. And it started because my oldest son at that time, he was a brand new baby. He was super colicky. the best way to get him to nap was to take him on some really long walks so i'd walk around the neighborhood in the stroller and i'd be just be listening to some podcasts along the way and i listen to you guys i just want to know in your opinion who is the top or number one skateboarding dad and then if you guys want to get the machine guns out who is the worst skateboarding dad out there this goes out to stee's wax with the only wax uh immediately down worse dad

2:38:52Davis Torgerson:yeah that's crazy um the first one that immediately comes to mind is tony hawk like look at his look at his son and look at his but is there i don't know how what's what's tanner to him but tanner to him there's no like direct i know like him and riley are stepbrothers that's more their both their moms is the greatest skate mom ever maybe exactly exactly and i think she claims that too yeah hard hard to argue hard to argue um just on like uh just being close and around him quite a bit in the last year i'd say carlos roberto probably number one skate dad in the game man oh shit i don't think anyone takes the like skating as serious as he does when he's on the road and just cherishes the time not like because he's away from his family but just knows the importance um of always just handling business like an actual pro like he came out here for the bunt jam for like a couple days and like he could have just chilled you know he didn't have to skate street absolutely killed himself skating street two days before the bun jam.

2:40:07And then, you know, some guys we bring out here are like, you don't have to skate in the bun jam. It's your choice, whatever. There was never a choice for Carlos. He's like, if I leave here and I'm not in the recap video, then how do I go home and say that I went to work that weekend? So, gotta be Carlos. Carlos Ribeiro, man.

2:40:29Davis Torgerson:Proud of you. Not to mention, he just came off a 50-day Euro trip with his whole family. I think he went home for like three or four days and came straight here. And then he left. He left on Sunday. A lot of people left Monday to make sure he was home for his twins birthday, which was yesterday. Happy birthday. Yeah. Yeah. That's that's probably the best answer. He's incredible. Yeah. And he has three, three little boys. No one girl. That's crazy. Two, two boys. nah he's got the twins and JP that he's like taking care of on a regular basis so he's busy man he's busy holy shit real shit alright y 'all that's gonna wrap up this week's edition of the post office we got through a couple still lots to do next week when our voices and energy are back a little bit more we'll try and hit a bunch man but thank you but we're taking a break so not next week but the bunt video is coming real soon just know Okay.

2:41:36Well, we'll see you when we see you. Thebuntlive at gmail.com.

2:41:49This is The Rundown, the skateboard world source for sports. Brought to you by NFL Canada. Ghosts. The Bunt Jam is over. One of the most memorable moments. Deion Dawkins pulling up at the perfect time for the Hail Mary obstacle. Having Buffalo Bills royalty in the building, man. How'd that make you feel?

2:42:14Davis Torgerson:I mean, you know me and the Bills. Not my favorite team, but Deion, straight legend. Such a nice guy. He was feeling the love, feeling the energy. That was just a nice cherry on top for a perfect day, man. That was crazy. I remember, I think I was like, are there any NFL fans in the building? And I wasn't expecting much. And it felt like at least half the crowd was like, dude, I have Bill's Mafia in the house. There was a Josh Allen jersey in the house as well, just randomly. Because we didn't really leak that info that he was pulling up. We had hope, but you know those guys' busy schedules. Things can change at the drop of a hat.

2:42:55So just thankful that the NFL made it work. and shout out Jacqueline over at the NFL, man. She's going above and beyond for us, dog. Hell yeah. He also said we got to pull up to Highmark Stadium this year no matter what, and he going to get us right, which would be insane. Say no more, Dion. You know what I mean?

2:43:19So while we were prepping and partying at the Bunt Gym, you know the NFL, man. And that shit never sleeps for anyone, especially down there in San Francisco. They had a flurry of action this week, mostly off the field. Let's start with the owner. How do you get caught in the trailer park, dog? You got to be like close to a billionaire. If not, you know, like there's ways to go about this.

2:43:48Davis Torgerson:$140 at the trailer park, man. I think that's back where he is from. He needed some hometown cooking. the crazy thing is that these things just pop up and then they go away you know like this rumor was hot news for a couple days and now it's left in the dust with the way the news uh the news moves these days so on to the next highlight man more light one of the funniest headlines i've ever seen in my life though like it was so unbelievable at first when it was just prostitution it was one thing and then when the additional details came out it was why'd they put a dollar amount on it why did they have to do that did you see the video of the cops no and they're talking like you hear their conversation on the body cam and they're just so perplexed like yo he's like a real estate like he could there's so many other ways he could have gone about yeah that was uh he's crazy yeah sticking down there in san francisco um now they have uh fake player news man give me the backstory i was behind this uh he goes by the name of deshaun labrea love i believe and uh let me get you i'll read the uh the headline here man who posed as 49ers player faces wire fraud charges after scamming women so apparently at least 26 women in california uh washington etc idaho were scammed out of 1.3 million and federal authorities believe there are many more victims oh my god dude that's you see the pictures there's like pictures of him standing by a car with like a 49ers like gear on it's like which would never happen like no nflers doing this he he was on the beach doing drills with it in his bathing suit but with a helmet on like and then i'm like yo i'm sorry to the women that got scammed it sucks but holy you gotta be more vigilant than that like just watch looking at the stuff now it's just so painfully so easy man like how he's not a player but i i can't get enough of the content my algorithm every other thing if i swipe is him just like set the videos he sent to women and shit like oh my god absolute legend what else happened down there in san francisco this week uh i mean that we started with the craziness that so much craziness has happened recently that i mean we forgot about brandon ayuk like his craziness that was i mean that's been since last year but i don't think we ended up talking about that like remember how he was like if the 49ers cut me today i'll sign with washington tomorrow and he's just been like basically stalking washington and then uh i mean them getting digs pretty much put an end to that yeah and but the latest i read on that was that he's still they never cut him so he's still on the uh i forget unable to perform he's on some sort of list where he doesn't count against the cap and they haven't cut him so he's still getting paid no no i don't think he's getting paid either he just needs to sign his fill out his reinstatement paperwork which he has not done but it looks like i mean that one as much as the internet's like clowning and stuff like that one's just sad like i don't know dude that's just gotta be some cte or something like i've never seen a a fall off like that with someone who was so talented there did so much and you're like oh this guy it's a matter of time before he gets paid like this is worst case scenario for a guy like puka man you know like just to see how quickly it can unravel even with supreme talent thankfully got paid like he got his big deal but he's burning money did you see he bought a 10 meal 10 million dollar house i think in washington or in that area and then he sold it the next day for 8.5 dude that's how it's done right there oh it's actually just very sad and he's it's he seems like i mean we don't know him at all but like you hear stuff about players like when ab went through this the biggest thing that you heard was that he used to be quiet and humble and just mellow and then i think it is the brain stuff man so that shit will change your personality for sure and And it seems like Ayuk, didn't Ayuk just seem like a quiet, like, gets the job done?

2:48:39Davis Torgerson:You never heard anything about him, like, being any type of crazy. And then all of a sudden, it's just a different person. All right. Off the bad news, on to the good news. Two absolute legends in the game back on the field this year. OBJ and Aaron Donald, man. That's exciting for the NFL. Star power is incredible. um obj hopefully brings some stability which he's not always known for but a good veteran to have around malik neighbors show him the way a little bit hopefully you know he can still perform as well so it's a good little piece for jackson dart kind of like the cooper cup style in in seattle but aaron donald the rich just get richer man in los angeles you have like it's been rumored all year so we kind of saw it coming but when it's finally official it's worrisome for the rest of the league but they're old as hell down there they are but bro not only is he back hasn't played in two years it's funny both of them came back the last time both those guys played a game they won the super bowl together that was epic but i saw a funny meme about the rams trying to explain the salary cap to people because it's like how did they just have 20 million dollars for aaron donald oh yeah go up to 30 and they're already paying so many people out the ass like they got miles garrett huge contract um but anyways yeah scary hours for that division yeah and for the entire nfl but so happy both those guys are back and then back to the bad news kind of how the nfl rolls josh jacobs man he's on the exempt list which is crazy you know how some people avoid this list and some people end up on it uh there's seems like there's no rhyme or reason to it but josh jacobs how many games does he miss man i have no idea uh we've also already done a fantasy draft he's on our boy seb's 19s team perfect spot for him yeah um yeah you hate to see that shit man fucking it's actually too gnarly to even talk about all allegations and shit like that but uh i don't know So if we're keeping it football, that will go to – that will help my prediction that Jordan Love will be a top six fantasy quarterback this year.

2:51:18Davis Torgerson:Because he's got – they can't lean on the run game no more. No. Well, that just sucks for the Packers all in all, man. Terrible look. Terrible look. Yeah. that's all I got for sports that's all we got for sports let's do a little scroll

2:51:40Davis Torgerson:yeah bro it's quiet last week of preseason no one plays anymore it's just time to get excited and look forward to kickoff NFL kickoff this year September 9th we're so close September 9th man we might have to do a one week giveaway and try and get someone to opening day, a little Instagram giveaway. I think the NFL I think they want to get one of these bunt holes or bunt wipes into the stands of their local arena. Keep your eyes peeled on our Instagram. We got to figure that out quick. We cannot wait. We know y 'all can't wait. I'm trying to get to opening day as well, man. I don't know who's going to figure that out for us, but hopefully someone.
